Phenomenal steak restaurant - I'm not a steak eater but I had a very tender steak salad which I ate every bite of, and my kids loved their little steak entrees too. Great service and atmosphere.

Despite the fact that it's located in the Short Pump Town Center it's actually a very good casual steakhouse! Yes it's a chain but let's not hold that against it. The interior theme is Aspen Ski Lodge and, well, it actually works! Lots of natural wood and a big fire place. The basics - very good prime rib, steaks, grilled salmon - are the best bets. The BLT salad (nothing healthy about it) is nothing but yummy. Also, the wine list is surprisingly good and well priced for a chain steakhouse located in a mall. The house red- Firebirds House Belnd - is actually very good, concentrated and complex. The desserts are pretty good as well. Highly recommended!

I went to firebirds for the first time, the food was really good and the prices were reasonable. Service was the real outstanding feature. I tried coconut shrimp, and must say it was worth it.

Typical chain restaurant. The food had zero flavor profile until you consider "fried" a profile. The coconut shrimp had the texture of coconut but none of the flavor. They put cilantro on my onion rings which is just wrong on so many levels. I asked for the steak on my steak salad to be medium rare and really it was so rare I couldn't even cut it. Normally, I would prefer a chef undercook meat than overcook it but this was really a bit sickening. This place is kind of like an Applebee's with an inflated ego. I mean who puts bacon on a mixed green pre-entree salad? Gross.

One of my wife and I favorite place to eat. We drive a long way to eat their. I would recommend it.

This place has terrible service. I called at 5 asking for a reservation and was told they were not taking them but would put my name on a list for 7. I arrived at 7 and wad told they had forgotten to put my name on "the list " but they would now and the wait would be about 45 minutes. I went back in at 7:45 and was told 15 more minutes. Between then and my seating at 8:30 I talked to several others who had called also and been told the same thing about "the list " that I was and guess what, they were left off "the list" also. I think "the list " is a ruse told you to get you off the phone and to come to the restaurant anyway. It is very unlikely that I will again. If you are told you will be on"the list" GO ELSEWHERE. The ladies running the front are many but but poorly organized and either don't know the turnover rate or don't care. The waiter was ok, but poorly trained. When told about the list, he smiled and promised a manager, who never showed up. I ordered the chef's special swordfish with crab for $27. The crab was there but hard to find. The waiter was not organized and wasted trips to the table because of it. The Ceasar's salad was ok but nothing special at all especially when they charged $4.50 extra for any salad. My date's steak was ok but small. The place is noisy with poor acoustics. Just not a good place when my meal was $66 with one drink and no desert nor appetizer. Bad value. Overall the worst place I been in in 5 years. I go out almost several times a week and would not come here again. There are too many places with good service.

Good little restaurant, with the uncontested winner on the menu being the Chicken Quesadilla. I don't know if it's the roasted corn in it, or what, but it's stellar. As for the atmosphere: NOISY. I perfer to take-out.

  • Rob M.

Good food, good drinks. Get the seared Ahi appetizer! It's enough for an entree.

  • Susan F.

Not a bad little restaurant. They have a variety of steaks, salads, chicken, chops, and seafood. I really enjoyed my meal here. I had the filet mignon. It was excellent. The atmosphere isn't the best. It was a little noisy and hard to have a conversation. The desert wasn't the best. WE had a brownie sundae. The brownie was a bit on the dry side. It was a little on the expensive side. I would return here again!

  • George J.

I really liked this place. I was searved the best chicken sandwich I've ever tasted and the burgers my sons got with their kids meals was better than most burgers that other resturants searve in their adult meals! The searvice was fast and friendly as the saying goes. The interior was a little on the dark side but pleasently different and slightly upscale. I can't wait to come back.

We went to Firebirds tonight. My daughter met us there, she got there first, had never been there before, and the 3 ladies at the hostess podium were rude to her and did not want to help her find our table or the restroom. My husband and I got the same thing just cooked differently and with different sides. He got my steak and I got his. When it came to dessert, the waitress brought cake to my son and daughter to split.....when they were finished and we were still waiting for our cake to split a waiter at another table went, without us asking, and prepared our cake. So we had watched them eat their dessert and now they were watching us eat. We gave the waitress a good tip but we will not go back. The food was okay....nothing to make us want to return.

I think this was the 3rd time we've been there and it keeps getting better. The filet was perfect, but I should have gotten the Southwest Au Gratin Potatoes for a side (wife did and they were excellent). I've had the Buffalo meatloaf which wasn't bad although not sure i would order it again (unless I've cycled through all of the entrees)!

This was the first time we ate here we wanted to try something new. The meal was superb, great service long wait if you don't call ahead, the only thing we did not enjoy was the low lighting setting it was deemed low enough to enjoy a romantic dinner. Overall it was great.

Buffalo meatloaf! Spiced pecan green beans! LUCKY!

Monday wine down days are awesome - half price glasses and bottles of wine. The bread is amazingly delicious - hot and doughy.. a great way to start the meal. We ordered a bottle of the Monterey pinot noir, which was a bit sweet but we all enjoyed it, especially at half price. We all really liked our dinners: Prime rib, mahi mahi special with avocado crab atop it with a chilled asparagus salad, and the sea bass with mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes were awesome and I tried the mahi mahi, which was really good! We got the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, which was really really rich. I would definitely visit Firebirds again.

Nothing spectacular. Place fills up and have great happy hour drink options. Slightly above average customer service compared to the other Richmond restaurants I have frequented. The tSeared Ahi Tuna appetizer is pretty yummy.

This is a regular stop for my family and I. Honesty my favorite Steak House. You can have your Morton's or Ruths Chris. I'll keep my Firebirds. Food is always right and hot. I typically order the prime rib with a loaded baked potato. Delicious. For lunch I love love love their blt salad. Kids meals are large, our 3 & 4 year olds can split the meal. Alcohol is great, small but diverse on tap selections with a nice speciality cocktail menu. My dad has an allergy to Gluten and this is a favorite stop for him. Their gluten free menu is about a page with many different options, not just your salads!

This was my first time I have ever been to Firebirds. The staff was really friendly and attentive. Food came fast, server was polite, checked on us multiple times. The food was very good! The portions were very large and filling. I usually get a steak when I go out but was nervous to try it at a new restaurant especially for the price. Overall the atmosphere was sophisticated, warm, and inviting.

We love coming to Firebirds. I have found that we very consistently have great experiences. The staff is friendly and courteous and the food is excellent. You can't go wrong with their prime rib and a loaded baked potato. Their tuna appetizer is excellent. If you are looking for something a little less heavy the BLT salad is another excellent choice. Fresh bread is served with all meals as well.

Firebirds is A-Ok for a chain restaurant. Can't really go wrong with it, but it won't exactly blow your mind either. I've been here countless times over the years. I've tried the pasta, salmon, and BLT salad. I must say I am a huge fan of the BLT salad. It's light, flavorful, and, bacon. That's right. No need to say much more once you've said bacon. :) The salmon is good, but when I had it last night I couldn't help but think that my boyfriend makes much better salmon. Something about it just wasn't as juicy as I normally like. The mashed potatoes, however, were very good. It was hard to hold myself back from eating them all! I wanted to save half of my meal for lunch today so that required a lot of restraint. The chicken pasta is also pretty darn good. It has a little kick to it so keep your water close by! The interior is really nice and spacious and I've always had great service there. Last night we were with a group of almost 20 and although a bit slow, the waiters did a fine job of handling us. The manager made sure to come by and greet us while we were finishing up which is always a nice touch. Like I said, not bad for a chain restaurant meal. If you're at the mall and starving, this is a nice place to fuel up!

OMG. The food was amazing. Rachel waited on us and was so polite and well mannered. The menu on the table fell over and knock my wife's wine all over her and the floor and the staff ran to her aid! The manager Kim was soooooo helpful that she even offered to go to H&M to buy her a new shirt since the wine messed up her shirt. We were pleased at the kindness and the food was worth it. We will definitely be back!!!!!!!

Great, really great burgers. I went there for the first time on 9/12/15. It won't be the last. I had a burger; I can't remember the name but it had bacon (need I say more?), barbecue sauce and cheddar. I like my burgers well done and this one was perfect!! It was done all the way through w/o being dry. The bun was toasted on the inside and nice and soft on the outside. The burgers come with a choice of steak fries, tater tots, cole slaw and something else. I can't remember. I had the tater tots. They were crispy and plentiful. You definitely get your money's worth. In fact, I chuckled when I saw that you can add bacon to a burger for .50. It's 2015! That is fabulous.

Amazing food and great service!!! Will be back the next time we are in the area! We got the prime rib and it was cooked perfectly, the horseradish sauce was amazing! Plus the port mushrooms were to die for!!

This was my second time eating at this Firebird's location. My husband ordered fish tacos and I ordered spinach salad with a crab cake on top. Our kids loved their meals - grilled chicken and grilled cheese. When the last of the restaurant's sourdough bread was dropped accidentally, the manager came out to ask if my son wanted his grilled cheese on a hamburger bun or a different meal selection. He chose the hamburger bun and he loved it. The food and service here is fantastic... I would definitely go back.

Firebirds is a decent sit-in restaurant if you're browsing the mall and want a bite to eat. I've been here many times and it seems as if I go for the same meal, the Caesar salad with salmon add on! I think it's because I usually always crave a salad and the salmon has always been very good with the wood fired flavor...so put those two things together and WHALLAA we have the perfect combo! I will say that last night it seemed as if the salmon portion was MUCH smaller than I remember the past few times I've ordered it and when I asked the waiter he ensured me that they didn't change the size of salmon add on portions (idk if I believe that) but it was still satisfying. My fiance had the Durango burger and either he was really hungry (which is always the case!) or he was very satisfied, but he finished it pretty quickly. I also helped him get rid of his fries, which were a nice greasy compliment to my salad and salmon :) The service was pretty attentive considering I was with a party of about 20 people. I wish the bread had come out quicker, but I'm sure with a smaller party that wouldn't be an issue. Overall I was pleased with the service, but wish the portion of the salad was a little larger for $15!

As far as mall chains go, A-OK is a good rating. Went to Firebirds with co-workers and everyone including kids had options. It is more on the pricey side for a chain. They were accommodating to our group. Everyone thought their food was ok to good. Choices were surf and turf, prime rib, burgers, and chicken pasta. One friend complained that the burger wasn't cooked evenly (one side too pink and the other well done). The steak fries were not that great. Onion rings were tasty and not overly greasy. The creme brulee cheesecake was devoured. The place was clean and had a good crowd pleasing atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to go again in a group.

Great place to grab a bite to eat when at Short Pump. It is time for them to change the menu, though.

Visited today and ordered Spinach Lobster Dip. Well the chips were cold and they brought back more only this time they were greasy. The Salmon was overlooked and the bread was cold, the butter just set there. In the past what we have noticed coming early produces a better service and food. On the positive side, the Filet Migon was well season and grilled.

Just missed the weekday happy hour special when we arrived, so we were off on the wrong foot. But the service was attentive and the food was tasty and on Monday nights the wine bottles and 8 oz glasses are half off, which I appreciated. Two TVs at the bar made it nice to watch the hockey playoffs. The bar bites were good and priced nicely during happy hour, so get in there before 6:30pm. Overall a nice spot and good atmosphere with attentive service.

Went to eat here with a large group. Everything looked good. Great service. I had the prime rib. It was delicious. Everyone really seemed very happy about the food. You must do the big daddy chocolate cake. To die for. Pretty good selection of wines as well. Bon Appétit

Pretty place, but the food simply put, was "ok" at best. When we moved to the Short Pump area, this was one of the places that was on my list of "restaurants I must try," especially because it is in short pump town center. Always busy, especially on the weekends. One day my bf and I finally decided to try it. We both had burgers for lunch. His had some kind of onion strings on them, so I didn't try his bec I hate onions. I had the burger with blue cheese on it, my favorite! The meat didn't have flavor, the bread was ok, fries ok. Not sure if I would come back, and if I did, I wouldn't get a burger. The waitress was very friendly though!

I've been here on two occasions- 2 years apart, ordered the same dish- and it was equally excellent on both meals- how's THAT for consistency? This 'franchise restaurant' is no Applebee's- each location may be part of a chain, but feels like an individual local dining spot- maybe this is due to the freshly prepared dishes, and perfect grilling of meats and fish entrees. Maybe it's the well seasoned and varied side items. Maybe it's the 'ski lodge' style decor, or open kitchen with flames rising to the ceiling and the rich smokey scent of your meal wafts over to the table. Whatever it is, Firebirds doesn't have to change a thing. Ordered: Steak au Poivre- replaced standard sides (mashed potatoes), with Southwest Au Gratin Potatoes (SUPERB!), also ordered side of Sautéed Spinach (richly garlicky, not over cooked, and light on the oil- perfect!)

We had a party of 10 for a business meal. We were seated as we arrived, which is a plus, as we did not have to wait until the entire party arrived. Our waiter, Philip, did an EXCELLENT job taking orders, keeping the table clean, delivering our meals, etc. We immediately ordered appetizers and drinks. We were very well taken care of and everyone commented that their meals were very good. I had the prime rib with green beans and caramelized walnuts. It was cooked exactly as I requested and the beans were terrific. I recommend and will return if i am in the area.

This place is great. The service for the most part is fantastic. The food is even better. The steaks are great and so is the seafood. The appetizers are cool and tasty. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Went for a work lunch gathering and was not all that impressed. I have heard great things about this place, but I had a long time deciding on something to eat, because nothing really stood out to me on the menu. We tried the quesadillas, and those were okay. The lobster spinach dip was alright too, but nothing to rave about. For my meal I had the salmon caesar, and that too was just alright. I did really enjoy the cocktail that I had: a cherry limeade concoction. For the prices, you can definitely get a much better quality meal that satisfies.

Outstanding. The play steak was the best I've had in a long time. I would recommend this to everyone.

The lobster dip was awesome! Some co workers and Iwent for a birthday lunch.. And the lobster dip had us scraping the sides of the bowl... The server was pretty good too. No complaints. The manager brought out complimentary desserts that were awesome...carrot cake, chocolate cake, lemon meringue, and cheesecake. The carrot cake was my fave... Moist and yummy! My entree was a bacon chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I have cut back on bread so I pulled it off the bread and it was still good without it. I would definitely go back for lunch. The lobster dip was the star of this meal for sure!

Located in a beautiful mall this resturaunt truly impressed me. I had the coconut shrimp and it was amazing. But beyond that I had the opportunity to sit where I was near enough to the kitchen to see what was being cooked. I know that sounds like a downside, but it wasn't. I was truly impressed at the efficiency of the staff. From the chef to the waitstaff everyone knew exactly what to do and operated in a smooth and impressive manner. Every plate that left the kitchen looked amazing. The environment of the restaurant was upscale and enjoyable. The service was phenomenal and even the manager checked on every table around me to make sure they were satisfied with their meal. I highly recommend this experience for anyone dining in the area.

  • Andy E.

My family has eaten here about 15 times and have never been disappointed. The steaks are great (try the blue cheese crusted filet!!), and the salmon is always a good choice. The wine list pairs nicely with the food, and they make a pretty solid martini. The best part is the affordability. Not cheap, but nowhere close to Morton's or Ruth Chris.

Tuesday evening with a family group of 9. Service was excellent from start to finish and small children were accommodated very well. The food was very good ranging from Mac and cheese to grilled chicken pasta. My French dip was better on fresh bread and with tater tots in place of the steak fries. The salads were fresh and good and both orders of chicken pasta were tasty. All in all a very pleasant experience for a large group of every age.

The most surprising part of this place was how much it sucked. I stay in Richmond pretty frequently on business, and I wanted to try someone new in the 4-star crowd. Way to fuck me with grade-inflation, yelp. Seriously though, it might have just been an off-night (e.g. understaffed, B-team, I got the sucky waiter), so have a couple grains of salt: The waiter, I don't remember his name, Todd... Chad... something dude-like. Maybe I'm stereotyping here, but totally chill dudes named Dave should not be waiters, because yeah, I totally need utensils dude, and an entree, like maybe eventually, but thanks for the water while I wait 10 minutes for a beer. The food itself... I've had better at a shitty truck stop in Wisconsin. Like I said, maybe an off night, but will I be returning?

Cold food. Not prepared to order. Food arrived within minutes of ordering. I ordered the chicken pasta specialty and sweet potato waffle fries. Fries were so so. Chicken was cold. Reminds me of macaroni grill and I was not a fan of their food either. Poor choice. Especially for my birthday dinner. The server told me all food was prepared in the morning. They still consider it cooked to order. I expect it to actually be cooked when I order it. Not recommended.

My Husband and I went to Firebirds to celebrate our 29 year anniversary. Everything was delicious, he had a chicken pasta dish and I had the chili rubbed delmonico steak. Everything came as ordered and very good. I almost forgot the coconut shrimp for an app.!! Yum. The staff was friendly, but I saw a review on here where someone went for their anniversary and they got a card etc. Maybe they stopped doing that?!? Oh well. Overall we enjoyed our meal.

Even though i dont eat a lot of redmeat i still come here in case the mood strikes me because the steaks are perfect. We usually sit in the bar to avoid the babies in back. Over all its a great place good service and the quality of the food is great

Business meals have brought me back to Firebirds many times over the past years. I really like this place. My recent visit confirmed very attentive customer service and great food. I can be very specific when I order and they get it right every time. The meal can get a bit pricy if you order wine or bar drinks so be careful. Usually it's a bit crowded. Have confidence this Firebirds will deliver on a great dining experience. I do.

I always make a point of dining here when I'm in the area because it's that good. It may be a chain, but the food quality and level of service doesn't reflect that at all. The interior of the restaurant is warm and a bit intimate, though they do have larger booths available if you're dining with a group. There's also a decent sized bar area as well as an outdoor patio for when the weather cooperates. The food is consistently delicious with their wood-fired offerings being the standout. I've particularly enjoyed their salmon dishes as well as some of their vegetarian entrees. Clearly steaks are a standout here for most people, but I enjoy their seafood offerings so much that I haven't branched out (yes, I'm one of those people). Their lobster queso is absolutely divine and a must if you're dining with a group (or have perhaps recently run a a marathon and aren't sure with that delicious goodness settling in your thighs....). I've also done take-out before and it was easily of the same quality that I would have received if dining in the restaurant. Service is professional without being fussy and special requests are easily accommodated without any issue. Pricing is on par with other establishments of this level and really is rather reasonable considering what you get. Definitely a star here in the Short Pump area. I often wish there was one back home so I could visit more often, but instead I'll have to settle for my monthly visits.

So far off to a bad start! Almost a two hour wait from the proposed 60 minute wait. Other people of the same size who came later were seated ahead of us. Then when we were seated they gave us a four top with the chair in the aisle. When our party addressed it the head manager was rude. The GM had to give us another table. The GM has been assisting, but it shouldn't have gotten this far. Nothing else to say Overall my Durango meal was terrible with Mac and cheese zide. I did get a new side, but the damage is done. I eat here again. Our new waitress was good

We were visiting the Richmond area and some local friends tipped us off about Firebirds. We didn't have a long time to decide and after a quick search to make sure they had a kid's menu, we were on our way. We were pleasantly surprised. I had the French Dip, highlighted on their menu as a specialty, with asparagus. The roast beef was perfectly tender and the parmesan asparagus was almost as good as ordering french fries. As others have pointed out, the ambiance was not that of a chain at all. The staff was crazy friendly, to the point I thought the waiter might even follow us home. We would definitely return if we ran into one again.

Last Friday night, for our anniversary date we decided to go to Firebirds, for the first time. We had been wanting to go for a while and since it was a special occasion, we decided to give it a try. When we got there, we decided to join the waiting list. The hostess took my phone nbr on some sort of tablet, my name and then she confirmed and read back the info. She said they would text me as soon as ready. I asked how long and they said 30 to 35 mins. Since we weren't on a rush we accepted.... after 40 mins I go back and they said 7 more mins... my husband was already doubting our choice. And up to this date, I am still waiting for the text message and the table!!!!! Thankfully we had a nice dinner at Texas de Brasil, I guess we will not think of switching TDB anymore!

My wife and I met our family members from Roanoke on a Saturday at noon. Our reservation was perfect and the table was ready immediately. I ordered a Caesar salad with my main course, the Steak Au Poivre. I ordered the meat medium rare and it came out absolutely perfect. The garlic mashed potatoes were incredible, VERY thick and seasoned perfectly. Our waiter was also extremely attentive and prompt. Everyone else enjoyed their food and the service as well. It was a great experience.

We enjoyed our meal tonight! PROS: They take reservations and honored ours right on time (we even were able to sit outside on the patio). The staff was all very friendly and accommodating. I forgot to order my salad with dressing on the side the way I like (my fault!) and they offered to bring me a totally new salad without me even asking. So nice! The grilled shrimp and strawberry salad (with dressing on the side) was delicious!! CONS: The steak that my friend got was over cooked. He ordered medium-rare and what he got was at least medium-well. We did not have utensils at first and had to wait a little while after we got our meals to eat, since we needed forks. Not a big problem, though. I would go back here again.

SO SO GOOD!!! I ate there over the weekend with a large group (10people) and was pleasantly surprised by the place. There was a little mishap with the table settings, but the over-all experience made up for it. Apparently, another group (who added more people at the last minute) was give our table, even though my group had made previous reservations. We were then given a round and a square table, which had been pushed together, to accommodate us. It was a little uncomfortable at first, but then we all got situated just fine. The manager apologized and treated us to free appetizers because of the restaurant's mistake. They were delicious. We had the Lobster Spinach Queso, Ranch Rings, Coconut Shrimp and the smoked wings. If that didn't make up for the table setting mishap, the service and the entrees did. I ordered the Firebird BLT Salad with tenderloin. HEAVEN!!! SO GOOD!!! The dressing was already mixed in with the salad and the meat was perfectly cooked. My friend also would not stop raving about the peppercorn steak. I'm dying to go back and try some of their sides!!! :D

Well, even though my two year old had an epic meltdown, forcing me to leave early, I still found this restaurant to be quite good. My husband and I both had burgers that were excellent and the kids chicken fingers were tasty. There could have been one or two more though, because they were on the small side. We would go here again if the opportunity arises. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Edit: Not 24 hours after this review was posted, Kim, the general manager called me and personally apologized. She offered to compensate another dinner and to make up the birthday dinner for my fiance. THIS is the service Firebirds is known for! Not the horrible experience from last night. Thank you, Kim and the Firebirds team for making it right! Uh oh! Where do I begin? I made a reservation for Saturday evening for my fiance's birthday. All seemed well over the phone and I was very impressed that "Kim" even asked if it was a special occasion. I told her yes! It is a special occasion and she asked if I would like to pre-order a dessert. Yes, absolutely! She gave me a few options and I picked the Crem-broule (sp?). At this point, I was really excited about this service and looking forward to dinner. Fast forward to Saturday when we arrive. The hostess politely lets us know that they would be able to seat us early - starting off great! Then....our waiter/server arrived. His name was Jay. Jay obviously did not appear to be enjoying his evening. No worries - everyone has their days and I figured if we are polite, I'm sure we can lighten his mood a bit! WRONG. We barely got seated and Jay is rattling off appetizer options. To which we were all a little taken a back. The awkward silence gave him the hint that he should go get the drinks first and maybe let us check out the menu... As we peruse the menu, we decide on the lobster queso. Jay is prompt in bringing back the drinks and we let him know what appetizer we would like and he makes a note and says he'll go ahead and put it in for us. A substantial amount of time goes by and as I'm looking around, I see all the other tables around us are being served bread. We did not receive any bread when we were seated. Between walking in and placing our appetizer orders, it was about 20 minutes. As we all sat there awkwardly awaiting bread and holding our menus, Jay continues to walk by and give attention to every other table he has, but ours. Eventually he finds his way back to our table and takes the order. My fiance's younger brother had to physically ask him for bread and then he brought it out. His attitude during the entire dinner so far is FAR from friendly or even polite at the least. How about a sorry for the delay or just some general customer service that you'd expect to get when walking into a Firebirds. I was extremely envious of the party behind us - their server was exceptionally friendly and their entire group was having a blast...and we were stuck with Jay. So the food eventually comes through and it is as expected - bright and flavourful, unlike Jay's personality that evening. Jay disappears and comes back periodically to fill up drinks not once asking how everything is or if there is anything else he could help with. At this point, I'm pretty annoyed and very close to bringing it to the attention of management, but my fiance is non-confrontational and it was her birthday. As we are wrapping up the meal, the plates get collected and Jay comes back and DROPS THE CHECK ON THE TABLE AND WALKS AWAY w/o a single word. I don't even think he stopped walking - he more-so tossed it as he was walking by. I mean, seriously...how freaking RUDE can you be?? Remember the pre-ordered dessert from the reservation? Yeah...I was totally expecting that with a candle since it was promised to me, but all we got was a bill slapped down on the table. I was too embarrassed to ask Jay if he could check on that for me. Regardless, we paid our $100+ tab and got a half-assed "thanks for coming in" from Jay. What a disgusting experience as far as service from Firebirds. Food was great, but service leaves MUCH to be desired. Maybe next time, we'll be fortunate enough to get a server that actually gives a shit.

If I could rate 0, that's what it would be. It is the Saturday before Easter, family is in town, and this place at 4:00 pm would not accommodate us. 2 different table with 2 different servers. Manger and staff chatting when one of the children started fussing. Didn't even have the dinner. Would never go there again, or recommend anyone to go there. So disappointing.

Went for the first time yesterday, after walking by several times to go to the brewery located over them. So sorry we waited so long! We had the Lobster Spinach Queso, the French Dip and the Pecan Crusted Trout. The queso was out of this world, great balance of lobster flavor to cheese, without either being overwhelming. We were enjoying it so much we were surprised when the manager came over and asked us how we were doing, and apologized for the slight delay of our entrees. Delay? We didn't even notice, it was the perfect amount of time for us to enjoy our dip and digest it a bit before the entrees came out. The French Dip was delicious, the meat was moist and plentiful, the bread chewy but not hard and the au jus was not overly salty. Overall a great, filling sandwich. The coleslaw had a nice crisp bite to it, with slightly sweet, slightly tangy flavor. The fries, were underwhelming, I liked that they were a thicker cut, but they were pretty bland. The Pecan Crusted Trout was cooked perfectly, fresh tasting and flavorful, no "fishy" taste at all. Thepeach salsa on top, was a nic,e lightly acidic balance to the nutty exterior of the fish, and the tortilla slaw was a great crunchy balance. Service was great, she was attentive without being intrusive. Why only 4 stars? She told us she'd bring the check, but came by the table twice, once to bring my "doggie" bag and once to clear dishes without the check even though I clearly had my card in my hand and when we initially sat down the napkin at my father's setting had some white schmear of food residue on it. We'll go back for sure, we were near the kitchen and watched quite a few dishes go out that we want to try!

Enjoyed dining here with a party of four adults and five kids. The kids menu is awesome and our kids enjoyed all of their food. The chicken tortilla soup was good, and the BLT salad was enjoyed by members of our party. The service was prompt and courteous, although our server seemed to have gone MIA towards the end of our meal, but not a huge deal. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known it was a chain....and I would like to return during our next visit.

After going by this restaurant so many times, I can't believe I've never stopped in until now. Anyway, I went around 9PM on a Friday night, they close at 11 so I figured it was enough time. We walked in an the hostesses did not look too happy. (Maybe it was because we arrived so late, but at the same time, a lot of people came after us so I didn't feel so bad) Our waitress was great, very quick and she was very nice. The food was just okay, next time I'll order the steak to see how it is. I thought it was very expensive, even though they give you a lot of food, but like I said previously, the food was just okay--nothing spectacular. I'll go again, but I'd rather eat at the Cheesecake Factory or Tara Thai.

I've eaten at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill countless times over the years. Firebirds Wood Fired Grill is one my favorite restaurants in Richmond. I usually don't go for chain restaurants but Firebirds is the exception. I have eaten everything from steak to burgers. Firebirds have some tasty side as well. The lobster queso is amazing. I highly recommend getting the lobster queso for an appetitzer. I went to Firebirds recently for dinner. I decided to try something other than lobster queso for an appetizer. I chose the ranch rings (onion rings) for my appetizer. The ranch rings was tasty. The garlic ranch dressing complimented the onion rings very well. I ordered the Delmonico steak with au gratin potatoes for my entree. I added two more side, green beans and cider slaw. My steak was cook well and delicious. The au gratin potatoes are made to cheesy perfection. I love the au gratin potatoes. The green beans with the pecan always hit the spot. The sweetness of the green beans makes your taste buds jump. The cider slaw is average. I was full after eating my meal but I made room for dessert. I had a hard time deciding on a dessert .I flipped a coin and cheesecake won. The cheesecake was served with fresh strawberries. I enjoyed every bite. I even got an extra slice to go. My server was very attentive. The manager came over to see how I did like my meal. I appreciated the great customer service .The staff is very professional. On weekends, Firebirds is usually very busy especially in the summer. Firebirds Wood Fired Grill has a nice atmosphere. Firebirds Wood Fired Grill is a good choice for a quality meal.

Dined here for the first time on Christmas Eve and it was a spectacular dinner. Our server Megan G. was great! Wine suggestion went great with my Chile Rub Mahi and Brussels sprouts and everyone liked their selection as well as I liked mine. We shared the Mousse cake for dessert and it was a yummy as it was beautiful. I don't usually like chain restaurants but this is an exception. Look forward to going there again next time I am in Richmond.

We were contacted by Lisa from the company after our post. After giving her further details she offered apologies and is mailing us certificates so we can give their restaurant another try. This was unexpected and impressive customer service. Stand by for further updates.

We love the sophisticated ambience of Firebird's Wood Fired Grill, and that only comes in second to their tasty and well prepared beef dishes overall. Chef Steve Sturm puts out some incredible servings of Filet Mignons to Cheeseburgers with great sides to match anyone's appetite and taste. For our most recent visit we indulged in trying their 7oz Filet Mignon with Baked Potato - the steak was cooked to perfection, seasoned lightly and just right, tender and juicy, and the potato was fantastic; I had their unbelievable 12oz Prime Rib with French Fries - one of the most perfectly aged, mouthwateringly juicy with the perfect medium rare presentation I have only encountered in high-end steak houses; and we accompanied dinner with a glass each of their wines J Lohr Seven Oaks & Belleruche Rouge. As a conneuser of meats, the eating experience at Firebird's is always consistent in an extraordinary presentation, services, value and ambience. The laid back sophistication of the restaurant's décor and atmosphere lends itself to the complete steak experience. I sincerely don't think the combination of experiences here can be replicated at any local steakhouse in the area. Firebird's Wood-Fired Grill at Short Pump is highly recommended, as we plan on continuing our patronage whenever we're in the area. Can't wait to go back!

Stopped in in between shopping for a quick bite. I was pleasantly surprised to hear they had green tea, which was great! I ordered the spinach salad with seared ahi tuna. The ahi was some of the best I have ever had! Server was great and made for a great dining experience!

Way over priced for poor quality food! I love steak. When I'm out on vacation I like to find the best steakhouse in town. This was supposedly it. It was not all. Of course I always go with the filet cooked medium. This was wrapped in bacon. Filet was dry and bacon had no flavor. The service was fast but the portions were small. My girlfriend had chicken with some kind of sauce to give it flavor. The chicken was way too dry. Their speciality alcoholic drinks were also over priced and below alcohol content. Went through the glass without feeling anything. Also, I couldn't find the exact place. When I called to find the place the young woman was quite rude saying how easy it was to find its tucked away behind a couple other stores. I've had way better steak for half the price. Everything tasted like it was not fresh.

Good food, slightly over priced for the service. It's potluck whether you get our food order correct the first time. CAUTION TO THOSE WITH NUT ALLERGIES! They use pine nuts in salad and in the table bread!

I went to the bar for dinner and had the peppercorn sirloin. It was delicious: the seasoning, temperature, flavor. It was da bomb! The staff was real cool and the food came out quickly. The only suggestion: stop being a chain restaurant. Ha! The place could use an injection of charisma, but that's about it. Now I'm calling them and making reservations for tomorrow night!

This is the best steak in town! My husband and I have had the ribeye, NY strip and bacon wrapped filet (of course, not at the same time =P), and they were delicious! We like our steaks medium and the chefs hit that temperature perfectly the first time, everytime! There is no need for steak sauce or any sauce for that matter because the steaks are flavorful and moist! The service here is wonderful as well. Friendly faces and service each and every time!

There's so many reviews already for Firebirds that I'll keep mine short! Nice dark wood combined with soft lighting makes Firebirds a really nice experience. It comes across as classy but not too high-class. I personally had no idea this place was a chain restaurant because every time I ordered food, it was all good and fresh. Not to mention, the bar has two TVs and the bartenders were friendly for the most part. Beer was always ice cold to where the glass would start to frost on the outside in less than a minute. I've even had my fair share of nice conversations at the bar with some more mature folks, which really adds to the ambience and feel of the restaurant. Firebirds is a personal favorite of mine and one of the few restaurants in Short Pump that caters more to adults, especially the professional crowd, even though it's a family restaurant. It's the perfect place for lunch away for work or meeting up with friends.

My wife and I like the food. She likes the Tortillinie (sp?) Soup. Whatever meat I order is usually prepared well. Service varies. We never know if it's going to be a good night or bad. We frequent the one in Southside because it's near our home. I stop at the one in Short Pump Town Center for the Coconut Shrimp every time I'm in the Mall. Good Food, I like it. Work on the Service.

Unfortunately at Short Pump, it's pretty much all chains. It was either this or CPK and we had literally eaten there the night prior so we decided to give Firebirds a shot. Decent wine list, most of the food on the menu is carnivore based. Not a lot of fresh/veggie options. I ordered the french dip and was underwhelmed and my friend got the chicken and sweet potato fries. We both kind of "whatevered" through our meal. This is probably the best you're going to do in Short Pump mall, you're better off venturing off property and going to the plethora of restaurants surrounding. Oh well.

Im surprised there were so many high reviews. Went in for steak, we ordered the rib eyes. Ordered medium rare, and it was delivered as reqested, pretty crisscross grill lines on the meat, But, the meat was sinewy, and had no taste aside except smoke/woodsy. If thats what youre looking for in your steaks, then this is the place for you. I like my steaks to have a meaty and beefy taste, a real steak taste, so i did not enjoy here. On the plus side, the decor was very nice, cabin feel, like a big den.

Been here twice while on business, and will be back. One time, had the Colorado Chicken Salad - and that was quite awesome. The second - time had the NY Strip and a side of the Firebird BLT Salad - the steak was perfectly cooked and tasty, and the side salad hit the spot. The waitstaff was great, especially since the 2nd time they were waiting on just me by myself, and often times that is when you get poor wait staff serive - but not this time. The atmosphere is very cozy. Great place! Oh, back to the service - the steak was brought out about 2 minutes after they brought out the salad, and I did not get a chance to even say anything as the Manager saw what had happened, approached me, and apologized and told me that the salad was comped. I really do love places that do the right thing, especially proactively Mgr comped salad when steak came a couple of minutes early I'll be back the next time I make it to Richmond!

On a recent visit to see family, I had a specific food itinerary of places I wanted to try, (one of the best aspects of visiting out of town, imo.) At the end of my stay, I had a sandwich place in mind for lunch before flying home, but ended up finding them closed. Without the chance to look up reviews on other places, my family recommended we come here for lunch; without knowing more about it, I agreed. I'm not crazy about chains, especially when eating out in a different area. Part of the fun is finding new places to go and creating that memory there together, you know? So when we pulled up to the mall, I'll admit that I probably made a stinkface in preparation for what would probably be a predictable mall-meal. Happily, Firebirds was a pleasant surprise. The place has a modern feel, tables far enough apart that you don't find yourself sitting in your neighbor's lap or participating in their conversation, (hello New York City, pay attention.) Attentive service. I ordered the french dip - something I wouldn't normally choose unless I knew the place - and was rewarded with a tender, chunky little sandwich with an accompanying bowel of dipping gravy. The gravy / jus was just a little thin, but it was good just the same. On to the best part: dessert. I ordered the strawberry shortcake and hoped for the best. I secretly look forward to dessert throughout the meal, you see. It arrived and was quite tasty, though it seemed like much more shortcake than strawberry. Freshly whipped cream on the side - very nice touch. Didn't feel defrosted or out of a bag like desserts tend to seem at chain restaurants - pleasant surprise. I would've liked to try a drink here but alas, had a plane to catch. Lunch looks to be a much better deal to try this place without paying $$$ dinner prices. Reasonable for three people for what I'm used to up north and nicely done considering.

We went the other night while we were in town for a show. Since there are about to open one next to out house we thought we would check it out. The service was excellent and the food was very good. I had the coconut shrimp which was great, got 10 large shrimp, wasn't a big fan of there coleslaw though. My wife had seafood fettuccine pasta which she loved. Can't wait for the one to open up in Woodbridge.

Always a fan of Firebirds. Never have gotten bad food and service is usually top notch. I got the Parmesan Encrusted Flounder and it was awesome! They had a special this evening where you could add a Crab cake for only $4, which I did, it was just as good. Service was great. We got there around 8pm and it was almost completely dead. I have been on other Fridays and had at least a 45 min wait, so not sure what was up with that. We met some friends for dinner, before heading over to the Funny Bone to see Tommy Davidson.

Stopped in for a quick bite before attending the Richmond Funny Bone. Happy hour bar specials kept the price down, but in general the food was a but disappointing. The smoked chicken wings were OK, but if you're expecting hot wings- this isn't it. The BLT salad was light and a bit lacking in flavor, but passable.

I really like this place and am a little heartbroken that I have to give it a three star rating. The majority of the times that I have been here have been great, however, I cannot overlook what happened recently. I took a friend to dinner with high expectations, had a reservation, and was looking forward to a nice night. Literally, I had to make an excuse to my friend and tell her I was going wash my hands in order to discreetly go talk to the hostesses and mention the tiny little fact that we had been waiting for 20 minutes for someone to come to the table. To give credit the waitress and manager did try to make up for the inconvenience by being more than available for the remainder of the evening. The food is a good quality steak house and is a real hit on Friday nights, so arm yourselves with call ahead and reservations.

My parent's favorite place. My mom and dad love this place. I have never had a problem here. My order always come right the way I request it. Bartenders make some pretty solid drinks as well. Great for getting off work and grabbing an appetizer and a drink on the outside patio and watching people on the mall.

I just came in to chill before going to the Russell Peters show. After browsing through the drink menu, the chocolate toasted marshmallow seemed like a good choice. After the first seep, I congratulated myself to make a good choice. The alcohol is there and it tasted absolutely delicious. The drink is sweet, creamy, and brings you to a happy place. Just like what the menu dictates, it is just like toasting marshmallow in front of a camp fire.

The ribeye was perfect! No sauces needed! Wife had the strawberry shrimp salad and fell in love with it. Well worth the money for quality over quantity! We will definately be going back again and again!

Been here a few times with co-workers and friends. Great service. Great ambiance (the lights can actually be a lil brighter tho...don't wanna eat in the dark, but nice nonetheless). Try the lobster queso dip as an appetizer (awesome!) I've had their steak, salmon, hot wings, salads and haven't been bummed yet. This location is at the mall so you can shop with your friends, then dine. Also makes a nice date venu for the lady fellas ;)

If you read my reviews, you know I'm not big on chains, but I LOVE Firebirds. Everything I've had here has been delicious... most recently the shrimp and strawberry salad for lunch. Huge portion and oh so delicious. I've also had the bacon-wrapped bleu cheese filet for dinner. Mouthwatering! Service is excellent... friendly and perfectly timed. There's also dining al fresco, which is great on a nice day.

Went in for dinner on a Sunday night. Great staff, food cooked perfect. We split a green salad, she had the Filet Mignon and crab cake, I had the Delmonico. It was the best I've had in Richmond. Pricing is up there, but it is worth the quality.

  • Lisa N.

I've been here twice and the first time I loved it and the second time I didn't. Firebirds reminds me of a TGIF type steakhouse, offering chicken, fish, and meat. I ordered the filet mignon medium rare and the first time, it was cooked perfectly. The second time, it was overcooked and lacked the flavor like first time. My boyfriend felt the same way. Therefore, I believe that Firebirds can be inconsistent, but service is friendly and it's located right next to Dick's in the mall.

Went here last night on our way back to Northern VA from Watercountry USA. Decided to finish up our mini vacay with a jaunt to a steakhouse that hubby's sis in law and best friend rave about. We're glad this was a casual steakhouse because we really were not prepared to sit in a fancy expensive steakhouse. Hubby works in the food industry and was very impressed by the food pricing - very reasonable for what we got (could also be that we are from Northern VA and everything is inflated there pricewise). Drinks - he got a Cab Sauv that was AMAZING (dunno the name, sorry!), and I got the Desert Pear Margarita -yummy! Starter - Lobster Queso. It was the only "unique" item on the starter menu - everything else was your standard american fare starters. The queso was good and I'm glad we tried it but it really wasn't THAT special with the lobster in it. Entree - I got the 7oz filet (I asked for it without the bacon), and subbed au gratin potatoes. Everything was delicious. I ate half of the steak and potatoes and took leftovers home. Hubby got the chile rubbed delmonico and it was really nice and flavorful and spicy. Pretty simple basic casual steakhouse. Next time I'd like to try the shrimp and strawberry salad for something "slightly" healthier :-)

My friend suggested we go to this place after working out at AmFam on Wed night. After a hard work out what could be better than something cooked on a wood fired grill? Never been here so I thought it would be good to try it. This place is hidden somewhere in Short Pump Town Center, not in any way, shape, or form, visible from the parking lot. After circling for what seemed like hours we called the place to get directions. It is behind Dick's and next to the Funny Bone. A good twenty feet away wonderful smell of meat cooked on a grill hits you. There is a patio area with a bunch of people eating good looking food. By time I got to the door, my mouth was watering and stomach growling. Then we find out there is a twenty minute wait. On a Wednesday night? !? Apparently a very popular place. We get on the list and sit at the bar. While waiting for our drinks I happen to see the menu. OMG this is an expensive place. From my seat at the bar, I really didn't get a good look at the place. The bar area was your typical bar in the West End. We get seated sooner than the 20min wait. The main restaurant has a nice upscale ambiance to it. Unfortunately the experience started going down hill at this point. It took forever for the bread to arrive. It was not worth the wait. It was eatable, but I only ate as much as I did b/c I was starving at this point. If I hadn't been starving I probably would have sent it back. Eventually the food arrived. I had the Smokehouse Chicken and my friend had some other kind of chicken (basically the same thing I had only with a salad and no BBQ sauce). Again it was eatable, but nothing to write home about. Service was ok, but I did have to wait for a refill on my water near the end of the meal. Overall, my friend got it right -- you're paying for the atmosphere. There's no way this place can survive on the food it serves. Maybe it is popular b/c it serves wine? I don't know, but I just can't see myself coming back here more than once a year. Frankly if you're going to be in Short Pump and are looking for an expensive place with an upscale feel, go next door to Maggiano's. Their food is much better and everything else is at least the same or better.

If it's nice outside, EAT OUTSIDE... ESP. if there is a concert going on at Short Pump! It creates an excellent atmosphere instead of going inside to the dark interior of how they try to make a lot of restaurants these days. Anyway, Firebirds isn't that far off from any of the other restaurants in the "American (New)" category, but they have quite a selection.. which is always good. I'm sure anyone can find something to their liking if they are a steak type of person or a seafood type of person. The appetizers seem pretty tasty. In addition to the regular calamari you see served just about anywhere, they have more seafood choices like lobster spinach con quesdo dip and even crabcakes! However, I ended up opting for the smoked buffalo chicken wings. Not too shabby. That night I was really craving a burger and I saw that they served a "Smokehouse Burger" which is my FAVORITE burger at Capital Ale, but Firebirds's Smokehouse Burger didn't cut it. The patty and bacon were burnt too much and I wanted it to be juicy. I was a little disappointed; however, I know they have so much more on the menu that I'll have to come back to check out.

Mike and Haley were great at the bar. Very attentive and thorough in explaining the menu to 1st timers. The food was very good. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the delay in our sandwich being served after very quick delivery of our salad

  • Chris W.

Tasty food in larger portions for prices that are just a little higher than you would expect for what you get. Good selection of beers on tap and wines. Would recommend for a quick bite, but I'd label this 'standard American fare' rather than 'haute cuisine'. The starter salad was good (in particular the cilantro vinaigrette, and the candied nuts added a nice touch), the french fries were pretty good. The steak was completely overcooked, but had good flavor. The server didn't have a thorough knowledge of their menu and had a bit of a hard time providing knowledgeable answers/recommendations on the food and drinks.

Phenomenal! I have tried their Filet Mignon and the Pecan Crusted Trout and both have been delicious. By the way, their fresh bread is awesome too!
