AWFUL got it tonight it was completely flavorless and expensive! Never going back. Thai diner is way better.

I like Chadar Thai over Thai flavor. Chadar is very authentic. Curry fried rice was like spanish pilaf! I am not thai but I used to eat in thai town in Hollywood for 3 years. Will visit again soon.

I'm visiting family for the holiday and it is a tradition to get Thai takeout before we leave. Our normal Thai place is closed on Sunday, so we tried Chader. Overall, it was very good. The potstickers were excellent! Pad Thai was great! The drunken noodles had amazing favor until I got several chunks of garlic at one time. I don't mind garlic, but not chunks of it in my noodles.

Tried this little place on 9/25/14. Got the Rama with chicken for take out. Liked it. Wish the portion was larger. Check was $11.97 Would go back and try other things for sure!

We've been to EVERY Thai place in Richmond and this place is the best. And it's not close.

I just moved to the area and am trying to find a new favorite Thai place, and this was my first try. I will probably return, but it wasn't as good as my old favorite, so I will keep my taste buds open. I always get red curry, and Chadar Thai's was tasty. Good portion size and spicy level. It didn't taste quite as fresh as I was used to, but close. Also, my old fav red curry had zucchini in it and, well, zucchini in curry makes my heart race... I was kind of missing that. My husband got the pad thai and was not a fan, but that's because he tends to prefer it to be a little less dry. If that's your thing though, the pad thai is probably just fine.

The delivery fee was $17 on top of my order, not including a "convenience fee" or a tip. The food arrived in 40 minutes which wasn't bad. I ordered basil fried rice, red curry, and pad see ew. Not the best... I will never order delivery from here again. But I may try dining in, just because I believe in second chances.

This is one of the best Thai restaurants in Richmond - Their summer rolls are always fresh and the Phat si-io (pad see ew) is my all time favorite dish here. Great mix of garlic, broad or wide noodles, broccoli, egg, green beans, onions and some form of thinly sliced meat. I substitute with tofu and extra veggies... They also have 33 beer in bottles - which is a huge plus. The owner is very personable and kind You leave feeling satisfied and happy Prices - moderately priced and very reasonable Generous portions Excellent and attentive service They offer a variety of beers and wine Easy to find location right of Broad Street next to Big Lots with parking in a well lit parking lot

My husband and I have been to Chadar Thai quite a few times. While the food is good, the prices are certainly not for a restaurant that has below average service and ambience. The decor is extremely dark, dingy and depressing. The service staff doesn't wear uniforms and the chairs and tables are really old and could certainly be replaced. All these factors should be taken into consideration and the management should either lower their prices for the food or do a major reno for the restaurant!

I rarely give out 5 stars to any restaurant but hands down Chadar Thai is my favorite and go to Thai restaurant. Not only for myself but also my family. Service - I've gone to this Thai restaurant for about 4 years now and they have never disappointed me. The owners are always usually there to greet me and my family who have now become a regular. They are really welcoming and whenever we ask for suggestions on new dishes we can try, they are always able to point out something we have yet to try. Overall, really friendly and is more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Price - The price is reasonably priced. I think for the portion of food that is being served, the price is totally justifiable. Food - The list goes on and on when it comes to what I order here, so I am not going to even try. But every dish I have had here have always been a hit. Their fish dishes that is catered to more of a family style never has a fishy stench, which in a lot of restaurants that serves whole fish - that's what you'll probably experience. All the typical Thai dishes that you see in any Thai restaurant, that is ordered here is very flavorful and the spiciness level can be adjusted according to your taste. One of my favorite though, would be the Papaya salad - definitely a must try. Overall, I go to the restaurant more than often and the experience is pleasant every time.

I haven't written a review for this place? Well better late than never! My first time here was several years ago and the only thing I remember getting was the mango sticky rice dessert which was very good. Came her for a late dinner around 8 and the restaurant was about half full. It's a little dark in this restaurant and I think towards the back they have a party room? There was a lot of noise coming from back there but not enough to ruin our meal. I was in the mood for some curry so I got the vegetable Yellow Curry (medium spicy) which had with coconut milk, potato, pineapple and carrots. It came with broccoli but that was only vegetable that came with it besides the base curry of vegetables. I love coconut based curry dishes and this was pretty decent. It wasn't as thick as I would have liked it but it was still flavored well. Vegetables could have been cooked a little longer though. I think next time I will try to get the shrimp curry or one with protein. This probably won't be my go to Thai place, but it's definitely better than some other spots in Carytown..

Hidden gem located in a strip mall serving delicious Thai cuisine. I've been coming here for years. The food is authentic and the family who runs it are extremely friendly. I've tried everything from the curry to the noodle dishes and I must say I haven't been disappointed yet. The prices are reasonable and they offer takeout as well. You can also chose your spice levels. Also, don't forget to order a Thai ice tea to wash down all that spicy goodness!

I went to Chadar Thai Restaurant for a quick dinner during the week. We were greeted and seated immediately. I ordered chicken pad Thai and Thai iced tea. The chicken pad Thai was good. The noodles and chicken was cooked just right. All of the ingredients blended well together. Chadar Thai iced tea was flavorful (tasty). The food came out hot and fast. Our server was attentive and polite. Chadar has a nice ambience. The restaurant is easy to miss. It's located in a small strip mall near Big Lots on Broad St. There's plenty of parking for customers. Overall, I enjoyed my dining experience. I will be back to try other items off the menu. I give Chadar Thai Restaurant a 3.5 rating on my first visit.

Thai food done right! My favorites are drunken noodles, red or green curry, and the eggplant dish. I enjoy that they offer a good variety of vegetables in their dishes (like baby corn)! Staff is always friendly and portions are huge for both lunch and dinner.

Huge portion, full flavor and excellent service! Both times I've eaten here I have been impressed with the portion size and how great the food is. A little hard to find unless your looking for it but it is worth it! Pad Thai was fantastic and my husband was vet satisfied with his Drunken Noodles. Spring rolls were delicious! The service was very friendly, inviting and helpful. Would definitely come back!!

Chadar just doesn't have enough staff. That's the only explanation I have for how often I'm wandering around, looking for someone to tell me if my take out is ready. Last week, I roamed around the restaurant for a solid 11 minutes before I saw anyone out in the main dining area to bother. Keep in mind that the to-go containers that they use have a gap in the sides, so sauce will definitely leak out and get all over your car. The food isn't bad. It's not great, but I might also be in a terrible mood from having to clean out pepper beef sauce from my car.

I recently went to Chadar Thai for take out. The atmosphere of the restaurant seemed nice and the service was friendly though since I didn't eat in I can't really comment too much on an in person dining experience. I got the green curry with chicken. There's four levels of spice (mild, medium, American hot and Thai hot), and I went with American Hot. I'm pretty good at taking heat so it could just be my perception but it wasn't all that spicy. I can however appreciate them holding back a bit and take some blame for not going all the way with Thai hot! The curry was OK, definitely not the most flavorful I've had but not the worst either, pretty standard. It didn't seem to have all that much chicken and the pieces in included were pretty small but the veggies (peppers, eggplant, and bamboo shoots) were tasty. Basil was a bit stemy for my liking and hard to chew some pieces (I'm a basil fan so I like to eat it). Overall not a bad experience and I'd be curious to try some of their other offerings though I've definitely had better green curry in Richmond.

I always love the food here. Unfortunately I am not currently eating Thai food and I accidentally hit the post a review button and can't figure out how to un-do it. I can't post any specifics until my next visit, but trust me, it's fantastic!

Not a 'review' as such but an fyi - The location shown on the map is inaccurate. Displayed location is corner of Homeview drive and Parham rd. Actual location is inside a strip mall alongside Broad street, about quarter of a mile off intersection of Broad st and Parham rd, towards east.

Not as expected. Cozy with quite some customers on a Friday night. Service was a little slow. We ordered Tum Yum soup, on the sweet side, not bad compared to other ones I had in NYC. Seafood salad with too many red onion, but tasted fresh with amazing hot sauce. As for the Thai dumplings, it was sweet and not anything I'd expected. They looked like Chinese steamed 'SuiMai'(if you are thinking homemade Chinese dumplings, this isnt) The Beef salad we ordered as 'grilled charcoal beef...' on the menu, it came our nothing 'charcoal grilled'. I miss Korean food a lot more after the visit! I didn't try any other famous thai dishes there, but I am afraid none of them are going to be 'as expected'.

After writing a review for a less-than-great Thai place tonight, I was inspired to finally write about my favorite Thai restaurant that we discovered over a year ago. Perhaps I have been holding onto it as my little secret but I am trying to be less selfish ;) Chadar Thai is in a funky strip mall between Big Lots and a nail place. Do not be fooled by it's outward appearance, there is magic inside! The atmosphere is cozy and relatively quiet, even when it's busy. It is pretty casual but I've seen people wearing nicer date night clothes that fit right in.The staff is friendly and attentive but service can be slow so don't go here if you're in a rush. I have only tried 2 things here- the yellow curry and "Garlic" with tofu. Both were tasty but "Garlic" is my absolute favorite and I hesitate to order anything else when I visit. It is a simple dish with carrots, broccoli and a mound of tofu drenched in a delicious garlic sauce. The prices are comparable and portions are decent, I usually have leftovers (although they may not make it until the next day). Everyone who has gone with us has also enjoyed whatever they ordered. As with most Thai places, I've found that ordering a spice level can be a total crapshoot. The "medium" here has made my nose run but other times it is not spicy enough. You may want to stick with mild and add your own spice if you're a baby like me. I did find that their new "Tropical Safari Smoothie" is a fantastic way to cool the burn though. I got the Coconut Paradise one with rum (you can also get them without alcohol) and it was amazing! Even my husband who is not a fan of sweet stuff kept stealing sips. Chadar Thai is wonderful place to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal with friends and family. Just be warned that it is addictive and you'll want to return regularly!

My boyfriend and I have a bad habit of going to chain restaurants just because we assume it's quick and easy. I may or may not complain OCCASIONALLY that we don't get to try enough locally owned places. Only occasionally. Anyway, one day him and I went to the Big Lots by Chadar and decided to go in and try it. We both got one of the stir fry style meals (I THINK that they were numbered specialty meals). After you choose your meal you get to choose your spice level. I LOVE spicy but only chose the second or third most spicy and my boyfriend got the one above mine. I got chicken and he got beef. The meals came in the normal amount of time and were both very good. Unfortunately, like always, his meal was better than mine. It turned out okay though because I made the suggestion that we both share our meals :). We both ended up eating a large portion of our meals and then some and still had a lot to take home. The wait staff was very friendly and quick to fill our drinks. My only complaint was that my sweet tea was a premixed drink. The mixture of that tea and lemon turned it into some sort of prune tasting drink. Blegh. I can't wait to go back to Chadar!

Pad Woon Sen is my all time favorite Thai dish and I use it to rate first visits. I was dropping stuff off at the goodwill nearby and decided to grab lunch on the way to the office. When I got to the office and opened up the container steam rolled out...love it when your food is still too hot to eat after a 10min drive. :) Good portion of veggies and chicken and a great spicy flavor...I set my heat to medium since this was a first visit and it was still a sinus opener. If you love heat then this is your place. Glad I grabbed a menu. They use take out taxi and we get lunch brought in fairly frequently. I will be hitting this place again.

Over the weekend, I had a craving for Thai and wanted to try out a new restaurant. I came across a place called Chadar Thai which was discretely located within a shopping center. How did my experience turn out? Read below to find out. The Good: Taste- I ordered the Thai Combo Fried Rice, which came with chicken, beef and pork. The fried rice was not overly greasy and the flavors were there. The meats also tasted like real meats and no imitation stuff. The Bad: Service- Upon walking inside the restaurant, it took a few moments for an employee to meet my friend and I to have us seated. Once seated, about 10 minutes passed before the server came to our tables to introduce herself and take our drink order. We went to Chadar Thai during the evening and the restaurant was roughly 20% filled to capacity. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Price/Portion- The price for my Combo fried rice was about $12. Keep in mind that I could have gone to P.F. Changs or Pekings and gotten a combo fried rice dish nearly twice the portion size for under $12. Overall- I was able to taste my friends dish which had some sort of peanut sauce and it was tasty. But the service and prices to this place are a little iffy in my opinion. THREE STARS.

We have decided to try Pad Thai at every Thai place within 10 miles of Henrico. We picked 2 tofu Pad Thai orders for lunch. The servings were huge and we had leftovers. The tofu was cooked perfectly and were in good balance with the sprouts and noodles. The price was very good- around 17 for two people which also included a decent crispy roll. I have had dine in service before and the place is clean. It's located in a strip mall next to Big Lots so the location is nothing that is noteworthy. I can't say it's my favorite Pad Thai sauce, not bad, just not "special". If you are craving big portions for the price you won't be disappointed. I would go with 3.5 for the Pad Thai and 4.5 for value.

3.5 stars for food. 3 stars for service. You do not get a warm and fuzzy feeling when you walk in the door. Frankly, I don't need a super friendly staff if the food they're serving is amazing. But when the food is mediocre, trying to make people feel welcome goes a long way. The spring roll was not even a tiny bit greasy, so big points for that. The papaya salad was a huge portion and delicious with the exception of the tomatoes which were about two days past their prime. The drunken noodles and tom yum rice were decent, but not good enough for me to drive out of my way to make a trip here. Once the food was delivered, not one person came around to ask how everything was. The mango sticky rice was just okay and lacking the crunchy bits sprinkled on top that add an awesome dimension to that dessert. I'm almost embarrassed to write that they have a kids' menu serving hot dogs, grilled cheese and French fries: embarrassed that my kid ate from this menu instead of trying the Thai food. He thought the grilled cheese and Ore Ida fries were great. He also loved the fresh squeezed lemonade. I am only commenting on this in case you, too, have a picky eater. This restaurant is right next door to Big Lots. Since I have never had the Big Lots experience, we walked through after lunch...but I will save that experience for another review.

Sooooooooo goooood. So good. So. So. So. Good. Can you guess how I feel about Chadar? It's small, sure. And not high end, big deal. The food is impeccable and the service is fantastic. I've never had a bad meal there or as take out.

Man, am I glad I took other Yelpers' recommendation on this one! Chadar was de-lish! Located in a strip mall next to Big Lots, it's unassuming exterior could be easily missed. But just follow your nose (and look past Friendly's), and it will be worth it. I went last night for dinner and had a delightful meal of fresh spring rolls and red curry with veggies and tofu. Much as you'd expect, the spring rolls are served two to an order, but they are pretty skinny compared to spring rolls at other thai spots. Not a bad thing, necessarily, just not as filling as other rolls I've had. I might ask for tofu in them next time, just to give them a little oomph. As for my curry? It was superb. I ordered mild, but learning towards the medium side of the spice level, and I'm glad I chose that route. Had I gone full medium, I don't think I could have stomached it. This spiciness, on the other hand, was perfection. Not devoid of heat, but certainly not too much of a bite to enjoy the full flavors. The tofu was also much better than most Thai restaurants, with a perfectly balanced texture and a slightly buttery feel: ideal for soaking up the curry. I always love when Thai food sends me home with a second meal, and Chadar was no exception. My leftovers were just as delicious for lunch today as the freshly made dish was last night. I would recommend against ordering wine, as the pinot grigio was much sweeter than expected. The Thai beer, however, is top-notch. I go through phases with beer, and after a sip of the bf's, my second drink was a no-brainer. I absolutely plan on returning for another mouthwatering meal... and I'm definitely getting curry again.

We usually go to Thai Diner but they were closed today, which I never knew they were closed on Sundays. I've seen good Yelp reviews for Chadar Thai so here we go. The place is much cleaner and brighter than Thai Diner. The waiter got my to go order wrong but I was able to fix it when the bill came and while I was waiting. Their food definitely made up for this.

  • Ryan L.

My girlfriend and I have eaten here a few times now, and it's been an awesome experience every time. We're always greeted and seated immediately, and the food is amazing. We always get the Pad Thai with wide noodles, and the fresh spring rolls with shrimp as an appetizer. My only complaint is that it's a little too quiet for my liking, where I feel if I don't whisper, the whole restaurant will hear me talking. Also, the appetizers are a little pricey compared to other Thai places I've been to, but definitely not bad at all. It's a little deceptive from the outside, and is hidden away next to a Big Lots, but after finding this place we are now regulars. I definitely recommend it!

Fabulous taste and flavor is the word !!! We went here for lunch on a weekend. Great place to dine, very friendly staff who can make you comfortable. The best part about this place is that it is amenable to your spice level. Thai hot is only for people who can take care of high spice levels. I ordered drunken noodles and added some tofu, the quantify and flavor is out of the world. It still makes my mouth watery. My spouse took red curry soup which she loved till eternity. Highly recommended Thai, you just can't miss this when you are in Richmond the next time.

  • Jonah P.

Consistent, well-prepared Thai food, served by an enthusiastic staff. Ignore the strip-mall location and outdated decor. This is some of the best Thai food in the Richmond area (it's all relative). No, it's not life-changing, but they get the staples right (pad thai, panang, etc.). Dishes are flavorful, not greasy and served in HUGE portions at decent prices. I can't wait to return.

  • Gordon Y.

Wow! Spring rolls and Jasmine rice with lemon grass, galangal and tofu. Rice was light and fragrant. Lemon grass was subtle and the galangal was distinctive but not over-powering. They used a light touch on the oil which was nice, making the entree have a good mouth-feel but not a slick, oily feel which often happens in restaurants. The spring rolls were made to order and a great start to the meal. Finished the meal with an avocado / coconut smoothie. A bit too sweet, but well worth the calories. A very good meal for $22.

Chadar Thai was recommended from a local. I ordered red curry to-go and fresh spring rolls (the ones that are not fried). Everything was very tasty and large portions. I like spicy so I choose "American hot" and it wasn't lacking any kick! If you need your sinuses cleared American hot will do it. If you would no longer like to taste anything for at least one week go with Thai hot.

I was in richmond for a few days and had a craving for Thai. Coming from Boston, I didn't really expect it to stack up to the Thai where I'm from. The pad thai was so so. There was decent flavor but the noodles seemed old or something. It wasn't greasy at all, which was good. I ordered pot stickers on a whim and I'm very glad I did. They were delicious pot stickers packed full of flavorful filling. The best part, though, was the curry sauce they were served in. It was delicious. If I was in Richmond again, I'd probably try another place. They do a decent job, but it's worth seeing what else is out there.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate a graduation. We made reservations in advance, and the seating was arranged and ready when we arrived. Service was prompt and friendly (although there was a bit of a language barrier) and the food was prepared promptly and arrived hot. It came with a choice of soup or salad (which I didn't realize). I had the Pad Thai (always my first dish at a Thai place to establish a comparison) Thai Hot and it was pretty good. The servings are enough for two or three people, though, so I'd recommend sharing (if allowed). IMHO, I'd go by if I were in the area, but I wouldn't drive out of my way if there were a closer Thai restaurant.

The salad was very good. Lots of thinly sliced beef with lettuce, tomato, onion, and bell peppers. I would omit the bell pepper and use cucumber and shredded carrot to offset the heat.

Definitely one of the better Thai restaurants in the Richmond area. The location is a bit odd, but it's not a big deal. The service is great and so is the food. One thing that is different about this Thai restaurant is that most of the entrees are vegetarian friendly. Almost all of the options can have meat substituted for tofu. I like this because it doesn't limit you and you can have many different options when ordering. Most other Thai restaurants do not give you much of an option. Also, the prices were very reasonable, especially for the portions they give you. The food was full of flavor and was absolutely delicious. The service was on point and I was impressed. I took off a star because some of the servers were on skype and the laptop was facing out towards the dining area. I didn't want to be the creeper in someone's skype session--that to me was a bit awkward. Other than that--I will definitely be back.

Review is based solely on the green curry - it was good, more coconut flavor than most, american hot was not spicy though. And for once I had enough rice at a Thai spot.

Very underrated; When people think Thai in RVA, the usuals come to mind: Thai Diner Too, Ginger Thai, etc etc. I say venture out of that and try Chadar Thai. Now let me start off by saying, I am absolutely in love with tofu. I would eat it every day if I could. Cover tofu in gasoline and I'd probably still eat it. That being said, Chadar Thai caters to this because you can add tofu to pretty much ANYTHING on the menu (same goes for your other protein sources, aka your chicken, beef, pork etc). You get to pick your level of spiciness/hotness with each dish as well. Besides all that, the food is delish. The first time I went, I ordered the garlic noodle dish. I don't remember the exact name but that's pretty much what it was. The flavor was very rich and I could barely finish off my plate. I also tried out the bf's basil fried rice which was bangin too. On my second visit, I ordered the Pad Thai. It wasn't as saucy as I usually like but it was very good. Of course I ordered it with tofu... Portion sizes are pretty big. I may be small, but I can eat my weight, times ten, in food, and I couldn't finish any of the dishes here. No complaints, though, makes for good left overs. The Thai iced tea isn't too shabby either. Overall, great food, good price, and the service was friendly and fast.

This is my hubby's and my favorite Thai restaurant in the Richmond area. The food is always excellent. Nice quiet atmosphere where we can actually hear each other talk. I love to take some of their Thai Iced Tea Ice Cream home for a treat to enjoy later. My favorite appetizer: Golden Bags (ask for them if not on the menu). I mix the pepper paste that is already at the table with the sauce they bring with the golden bags. The flavor is out of this world!

I'm still loving this place. I went last night and had the basil fried rice with chicken. IT WAS DELICIOUS! Even though I ordered "thai spicey" there was still a lot of flavor. And as always, the staff is very friendly and pleasant. To be honest, I was telling my wife that this place probably doesn't get much traffic because of the crappy shopping center it's in. They have improved their interior a bit but I never went there for the look just the food. The people who rate this place less than 4 stars are probably the type of people who would eat at Taco bell in Mexico rather than an authentic street cart. Get pass the bad reviewers and the crappy shopping center and check this place out and you'll thank yourself that you did.

Went to go to Thai Diner but they were closed so we decided to try here. Asked for American hot Pad Thai and it was barely even mild. Wife's food was seasoned right and they actually made a nice dish for our 20 month old. Decor needs updating. So-so to me.

Went for the first time and ordered the spicy noodle soup with seafood combo. The broth was so savory--and not too overpowered with lime. Sooo good that I finished the whole bowl practically (and it's a generous bowl). Also the seafood was cooked just right--tasted fresh and not over cooked. Husband ordered the pad Thai woonten (sp??) which was a nice variation with the clear cellophane noodle rather than the typical rice noodle. Also, love their curries--among the better ones I've ever had elsewhere. Additionally, a friendly and attentive staff provides great service.

The food here is actually very good. Compared to Thai diner and thai taste, this place is way ahead of the game. The food comes out hot and the flavor is amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves Pad Thai and Pad See Ew. Those are my favorite dishes and man were they good here. The portions are a good size as well. So you do get what you pay for. The staff was nice, somewhat attentive. It didn't seem like they had many people working there but they did okay. The waiter was very polite. I'm definitely going to go back to this place.

My wife and I discovered this WONDERFUL restaurant about 4 years ago. It is hands-down our favorite Thai restaurant in Richmond. Sook-salem (Tony), the owner is a delightful young man who clearly takes pride in his restaurant. His sister is the head chef, and WOW, can she cook! I have had the most flavorful, non-greasy, delightful dishes from her hand: Crispy Tilapia with Ginger Sauce (my wife's favorite), Basil Leaves with Chicken (my favorite), Pad Thai to die for, red and yellow Thai curry, pumpkin with chicken curry (kind of a yellow Thai curry). We have never had a meal there that was not excellent. The staff is exceedingly friendly and professional (and prompt). We have eaten there at least 20-30 times. Always glad we went there. We live in Chesterfield, so it take us about 40 minutes to drive there. Now, there are a lot of good restaurants in Chesterfield, but we probably dine at Chadar more than any other restaurant. DEFINITELY worth the drive!

Thanks to the "Best Thai In Richmond" thread, I found some really good food here at Chadar. They were definitely in the Halloween spirit with decorations from the entrance to the kitchen. Plenty of booths and tables throughout. The waitress was very helpful explaining their menu, although I had made my decision on what to eat before I came. I went with the seafood pad Thai with American heat level. Phew... I'm still sweating thinking about that heat. But the meal was enjoyable. Hot, but not intolerable. I didn't order the Thai heat, so I have no reason to complain...lol. Once I looked past the heat, all of the other ingredients and seasoning started to become more apparent. A very good dish with plenty of seafood. I also had a very tender chicken satay. I will be back during their lunch hours to try their red curry dishes which looked pretty good. A great tip on where to eat from everyone within that discussion thread.

I'd like to consider myself somewhat of a Thai fanatic and the journey to seek out the perfect Thai restaurant in Richmond has always been a challenge. It's been almost 2 years since I started that journey and it finally ended when I visit Chadar Thai! First off, no this is not the best Thai food I've ever had. However, it is pretty darn excellent. Would I say it is the best Thai food in Richmond? For me the flavors and spiciness of the Thai food here pleases my taste buds the most. However, I will say that I have brought other Thai fanatic friends here and they thought either Pad Thai Restaurant or Ginger Thai Taste was marginally better. I find that at the end of the day, each person has a different palate especially in the Thai food realm. Ambiance: The decor inside is simple. I would come here with friends mostly. However, a casual date is also acceptable. There are booths along both sides of the walls and for larger parties there are tables in the center. The restaurant is located in the middle of small shopping center next to Big Lots so it is kind of a random location, but parking is excellent. Service: The service on normal days is generally pretty good. It is a little bit slower pace than I would personally like, but I am one of those people who is all about getting in and getting out no matter where I go. I will give one piece of advice. Do not go on a super busy holiday when you know it will be packed. They just don't have enough servers to keep up during those days. Food: I absolutely love that you can get any of the entrees with tofu. This makes this place very vegetarian and vegan friendly!! My personal favorites are their red curry, pad thai, and drunken noodle. I personally get American Hot for spiciness and I find it is the perfect amount of spiciness where I am sweating but not having a bad day the next day =P My friends who I've brought here have ordered various things and they all seemed to have liked it. As a result, I am confident in saying that if you've ordered a certain Thai dish at other restaurants, you should not be afraid to order that same entree here. Some things to know: When you are finished eating, you can pay up front. Furthermore, they do takeout and I am always pleased that it tastes the same like when I order it in the restaurant. Always remember to ask for the salad before you order food. I believe it says on the menu that you get one with your entree, but I don't think they give it to you if you don't ask for it.

Great food and generous portions. Four levels of 'heat/spiciness' that caters to all tastes. Casual atmosphere.

I'm addicted to noodles and Spicy and this place good selection of both the pad woon sen and red curry are the perfect combination. The pad see ew with flat noodles are great too. The decor is a little outdated and staffing is short but this is a family owned restaurant and it is passable. This is my go to place for Thai now.

Would definitely say this is as good as it gets for Thai food in Richmond. I usually get the drunken noodles and it's always delicious. They also have a great wonton soup that is super filling on a cold day. Service is always great as well.

Great service and food. portions are great and cost just as much as any other thai restaurant. I ordered the basil fried rice and thai fried rice. everything was seasoned well and tasted great. I like what "american spicy/hot" is. Just as spicy enough to still enjoy your meal and not too much to were you'll be pooping fire the next day. I love how there is a option of meats and you can substitute them with tofu. I don't know any other place in Richmond that has good tofu. Bathrooms are clean as well as everything else i experienced here. They have a large tv screen too. With your check comes with some hard candy.

Visited Chadar Thai for a Friday lunch with a friend. We were promptly seated as there were not that many people in the dining room. It was nicely decorated and pretty spacious compared to some other local Thai joints. I'm not crazy about the location or the shopping center. I imagine the location is more a detriment than anything. Service was solid. The staff was friendly and we received our food quickly. I went with a spring roll and the pad-see-ew. The spring roll was just ok and the pad-see-ew was good. I wish I had more to say about it but that's why I'm giving it 3 stars. Nothing really stuck out to me as a differentiator. The food was good but that's about it. There was no wow factor or anything special that would make me pick this place over the other Thai restaurants in the area. Especially since it's not the most convenient location for me. If you're in the area and craving some Thai, it's worth the stop, but i would not recommend going out of your way.

My wife and I go to Chadar Thai at least once a month, we love it. She gets the drunken noodles, and I get the Massamun Curry. Absolutely delicious. The service here is great as well...highly recommended!

Love this Thai resturant. As of now I won't eat at any other Thai place. Food is delicious and not greasy and service is good as well.. Leaves you nice and full with leftovers.. I had the pad Thai chicken rice and I love it. This place is a must try.

A friend and I decided to check out Chadar Thai a few weeks back to take a break from the usual Carytown Thai circuit. I found that the food here is solid and the prices are actually marginally lower than the better known Thai restaurants in the area. In addition Chadar Thai's spacious (but dimly lit) dining room feels more intimate and less bustling than its peers. The service was attentive and Chadar Thai sticks with the familiar pay-at-the-counter routine once you've cleaned your plate. At the end of the day, it will take a bit more than Chadar Thai has to offer to lure me away from my current favorite Thai places, but if you are looking for a change of pace, Chadar Thai is a great option.

Went here on another outing with classmates/friends. Service was a little bit slow (and they forgot my water), but we had a pretty large group. I ordered the roasted duck w/basil (medium hot) and a papaya salad (American hot). I regret getting American hot for the papaya salad because it was SO spicy! I was sweating but I finished it off with the help of plenty of water. The duck dish was sweet in comparison. Both dishes were excellent and delicious though! We asked to have our check split at the beginning, which they were willing to accommodate. FYI: we had to pay individually at the cashier at the end, and they only accepted credit cards, not debit/check cards. Overall, a great Thai restaurant, just a little far from campus! =)

Having read the reviews we decides to try this restaurant over 4 other 4 star rated Thai restaurants nearby. It was very disappointing and most certainly not worthy of a 4 star rating. I ordered the drunken noodle with chicken. The chicken tasted borderline off and I didn't trust that I would be ok if I ate it. The noodles were just edible. We won't be going here again!

Favorite Thai restaurant in Richmond. It is never busy in here which worries me but the food is always good and on the spicier side. The waiters are very friendly and don't disturb you much except to refill the much needed water. It is next to the Big Lots Had the Drunken Noodles and Pad See Ew. Other friends have had everything from pad thai to different curries and they usually are very happy. Good for vegetarians too.

Taking off a star because the last TWO (separate) times I have called to place an order for carryout (called twice each time) no one has answered the phone. Sure, I could have gone in, placed the order, and waited... But I'm usually passing through between work appointments or on my way home for the day and I don't feel like sitting around for 15-20 extra minutes when a call could have made it a simple.

First of all, everything has to be taken in context. We were visiting richmond from southern california, where thai food abounds. Thai town in hollywood, is probably as close as you will get to authentic thai food in that part of the country. Furthermore, we've travelled to thailand on a number of occasions as well so do know authentic thai food. For this area, the thai food is pretty good. Look, i'd be lying to say that it's the most amazing thai food experience i have had. We only ordered two dishes. a stir-fry tofu/veggie dish and a yellow curry with chicken. Both were done tastefully well. The problem with most thai-places is they americanize the food - add too much palm sugar and make the curries too sweet. this one had the right balance of sweet/spice. We would have asked for higher spice level but our daughter is little and can not take spice. Service was quick. Water refilled whenever needed. Waitress was respectful but service oriented. Veggies were crisp and the garlic sauce was lightly favored. The choice of vegetables they used was different from what you'd get on the west coast or in thailand but can understand the produce limitations in this part of the country. It was also not too salty and had a nice balance of the fish sauce, garlic, and soy. Dishes came out quickly. We were in and out of the restaurant in 1/2 hour but we eat quickly since it was so good. Rice came with the meals (something nice out here, on the west coast they charge obscene amounts of $$ for rice/person). The restaurant was light when we went around 6pm on a wed night. We did not get a chance to try the other dishes, but if we are ever back in this area, we're likely to come. They accept Credit Cards, reservations probably not needed on weeknights. Unsure of weekends. Parking is easy - in the strip mall near big lots.

Although I did not try their entire menu, its soley based on the 2 noodle dishes and the accompanying salad & spring roll. Salad was good but dressing was too sweet, spring roll wasnt flavorful at all and remained on the table. The Chicken Pad See Ew and Shrimp Drunken Noodles had good flavor in the sauce but as many Asians know, pan searing includes a smoky searing flavoring that comes from cooking on high heat & not from sauce. This place did not have it which makes the noodles mush together. Although the restaurant was clean, you can tell the restaurant was old, booth benches torn, cheesy 70s decor. This place has been a failed Chinese restaurant & Vietnamese restaurant, now Thai restaurant....

I'm certainly no thai food expert, I just love a good pad thai every once in a while and this place does a great job. It's not greasy like other places and I'm always pleased with it. The service it very good and the heat is good (I like the reviewer who stated "pooping fire" isn't a problem that pretty much sums it up). Luckily, this place is close to my work so we go here pretty often.

The food is very good and well portioned. The only down side to this place is that that do not have delivery. The owner recommended I call a cab and get them to pick it up for me :p

Although Chadar Thai will never win a contemporary design award, the service, food, and portions make it well worth a visit. You go here for a quiet Thai dinner and leave with food for lunch the next day. My personal favorite for Thai in Richmond.

I am a huge fan of Thai food! I live in Chicago and just recently started traveling to the Richmond area 50% of the time. As you can imagine, Chicago has some amazing Thai food. This place blew any of my favorite Thai food places out of the water! I went on a weeknight and it wasn't busy at all, so I can't really comment on the service. Both servers working were both very nice and attentive. This place is highly recommended; delicious food! And when asked for a certain level of spiciness, they completely fulfilled the request perfectly - this is key for Thai food!

Chadar Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant here in town. Everything is delicious and so well seasoned. The service is fast and friendly and very attentive to your needs. Each time I leave, I feel satisfied and very full. Its a quaint little place that has a nice feeling to it. Their portions are fair and their prices are just as fair, a great place to eat!

Great service! Delicous food! Never too greasy! I have enjoyed the various dishes that I've tried because they have all been tasty and well-seasoned. Nothing is bland in my opinion.

duck basil is worth it. my favorite here, and hard to find anywhere else. served with a generous portion of warm rice with a large dish of duck, basil, onion and peppers. always order thai food. clean restaurant with friendly service.

Delicious. Highly recommend if you are in Richmond or West End as this is the best Thai in the area. Spicy Basil Chicken and Curry dishes are all great. I find it tends to be on the hotter side compared to some of the other restaurants in town. Usually less crowded though.

If you're looking for great tasting authentic Thai dishes, Chadar Thai is the best place to eat. This is the only Thai restaurant I like in Richmond. I actually didn't like Thai food because of bad experiences at other place, then my friend took me here. I've tried plenty and none compare to Chadar. Pad Thai is a dish most people are familiar with when it comes to Thai food, so I would try this first if you're skeptical. I promise you it will be the best one you've tasted. If you know a little more about your Southeast Asian foods then I would go ahead and order any of their coconut milk (Ped) curry dishes. My favorite is the Red Curry with coconut milk and seafood. IT'S A MUST TRY!! Everything I've ordered came out quick and hot. It is quiet there sometimes, which I'm scared about. It could be the location. There are big chain restaurants in front of it. Please don't let this place die!! Great food, service and beautiful atmosphere.

I had red curry with beef onto day and had also tried pineapple fried rice with garlic and pork added on previous occasion Only 2 other customer in restaurant at 7pm on a work night. It's located in the strip mall where biglots is. They have a tv with the volume on tuned to CNN it has 15 tables and the offer wine beer and mixed drinks. I had Thai ice tea for the first time and it was refreshing. Tea with condense milk floating on top. Only 2 waiters. Place was clean but dated. Prices for dinner was about $3 bucks more than dinner. Spring rolls are about $4 and $5 for them to add shrimp. I'm use to paying no more than $3 so I felt that was high. This is a casual place nothing fancy at all. American hot is the Perfect amount of heat. U will drink water but u will also taste the other flavors in the dish.

Best Thai in Richmond. Chadar is the best Thai I've found in RVA - great food plus very friendly and helpful staff. Been eating here for about a year and havent had a dish I didnt enjoy yet. If you love thai food, check out Chadar.

So I gave Chadar a second try, and liked it much better. I ordered the steamed spring rolls (they are huge), which come with a delicious peanut sauce. Next I tried the chicken coconut soup. It was a little sweet with a tad of bitterness, and pretty flavorful with the mushrooms, cilantro and onions. Finally I sampled the chicken cashew: a mix of broccoli, carrots, scallions, onions in a slightly sweet sauce with 2 (instead of the usual 1) scoops of white rice. It's quite mild so just throw some dry crushed cayenne peppers on it. All in all, Chadar has good reasonably priced thai food.

Chadar Thai is one of the better Thai restaurants in Richmond...I'm a hothead and LOVE spicy foods and Chadar has a "Thai Spicy" level that's absolutely perfect for me. The Drunken Noodle and Basil Chicken are my absolute favorites! The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wasn't too fond of their curries, I thought there was too much coconut milk in it.

I wish the location was better. Kinda hard to see from the street. Good to see that they've hired more help. So far this is the only Thai restaurant I've found that aren't afraid to make their food SPICY! Between my sister and I we had the pad woon seen, crying tiger, basil duck, curry duck and pineapple fried rice. Alot of food for two people, but when you find a decent restaurant you want to eat alot. I wished they delivered.

Decent Thai, Crappy building. Pad Thai and Red Curry were as expected. Springrolls were.....ummmm...phallic. Slice (ouch) the things next time. WOW what a shithole. Kinda clean, but rundown. The food makes up for it somewhat. There is another Thai place in the stripmall across the road.

In a strip mall on Broad Street but it is the freshest Thai food around!! Not your run of the mill. They have dishes like Pumpkin Curry, Crab Fried Rice (out of this world) and they will tailor what you want to make your own creation. Invetive and authentic. Love it!!!

This place definitely beats all the other Thai places in Richmond. Their food is delicious and authentic. We ordered the Drunken Noodles (I ordered them Thai-HOT!) and Panang Curry, which were both really yummy. Thai-Hot really is actually really spicy, just the way I like it. A lot of Americanized Thai restaurants will make their food bland and not spicy even when you order it as spicy as possible. Even their Chadar Salad was awesome -- light and healthy, but savory and full of flavor.

Chicken Pad Thai is fab. Stronger telephone customer service would have landed them 5 stars. Great overall. Cheaper and tastier than Thai Diner across the street.

Had an excellent meal here - shared some drunken noodles and the curry fried rice (with yellow curry and veggies). Everything was GREAT - spicy and delicious. I read elsewhere that the owners are Laotian, which doesn't surprise me given that the food reminds me of my favorite Laotian restaurant in Madison, WI (Lao Laan Xang). Service was friendly, and the prices were excellent - our dinner for two came to just over $20, and we were both very full and happy at the end of it. Not sure why this place isn't as well known as Thai Diner - particularly since it's better!

My favorite Thai restaurant in Richmond. Excellent food at reasonable prices. Large portions and bold flavors. Everyone is very friendly and the owners are so nice. My favorite dishes are the drunken noodles and the curry dishes. Love their pad thai as well.

Great food at great prices! Lunch comes with salad, wonton soup, or spring roll with your entree. Squid salad is bangin along with pad see ew, drunken noodle, red curry, and just EVERYTHING! Best Thai food and good service!

  • Tom T.

Have eaten here twice in the last week, think it's fine Thai relative to others in town, though not outstanding. Flat noodles in Drunken Noodles were a little sticky/overdone, but Pad Prik Kingh was excellent and "American Hot" spice level was just right. One complaint: choice of soup/spring roll or salad with entree is limited to wonton soup or fried spring roll, despite there being other soup and fresh spring roll options on the menu.

Why did I give Chadar Thai 5 stars? There's never a wait. It's always quiet and chill. The couple the runs it is so freaking nice. Their red curry with chicken is my favorite in Richmond. It's not in Short Pump. Everything is inexpensive.

What can I say about Chadar? About as good as it gets for Richmond Thai food! I frequent the restaurant often and never leave unhappy. Amazing food, great employees that are always so happy to see you, and more importantly, really seem to love what they do. Those are key ingredients to a great restaurant. The pot stickers w red curry sauce are incredible. It's the best red curry that I've ever had! I usually order the pad see ew with Chinese broccoli. The portions are very generous and prices reasonable. If you haven't been, go today!!
