Have your cake and.... I know cake. Not because I was a fat kid that lived off it... wait... well... ya know. Actually I was in the business back in the day baking, decorating and selling to the most difficult, demanding, impossible, unreasonable, spoiled, customers on the face of the planet: your typical bride. Now I'm the snob. I go to weddings and poke my pinkie finger in the sliver of cake the wait staff brings me and.... blecch. No thanks. So, I have this party with some old friends worth impressing (not the usual redneck mouth breathers I typically hang out with) and decided to order a cake from Graham...'cause ...nothing goes with BBQ than cake dessert. Ok...we could have had a whole Bronzini and cake would cover dessert just fine too. Besides...I don't make cakes anymore, just like the guys from "Deadliest Catch" probably don't eat at Long John Silvers. Rules in the cake catering world: 1. Made from scratch - NOT Betty Crocker out of a box.... childs play 2. Butter Cream icing - NOT Duncan Hines out of a tub... rub that stuff on your girl friend 3. Edible flavors - bubble gum gummi bear sour patch cake... don't even... 4. Bridezillas - can take a cake and shove it up their exhaust pipe(sorry added that one) Karey (nice lady BTW) assured me on the phone my order was in good hands. My cake was done on time and a solid home run (almond chocolate chip cake with vanilla icing). Definitely made from scratch (no bait and switch). Killed the leftover slice with coffee the next morning... Booyah! Bottom Line: Save the Costco sheet cake (That probably says "Furaha siku kuzaliwa"- that would instead be Swahili for Happy Birthday) for the kiddie party.

Went here for a cake tasting with the bride to be. There were 6 of us in total. He greeted each of us individually with a warming handshake and was very welcoming. He was very helpful and helped my friend, the bride to be, design a simple but yet elegant wedding cake. I'm not sure why such the bad review of how he acts during the cake tasting etc because I didn't sense rudeness, agitation etc. And to mention, there were 6 females total, with all different personalities, and at times talkative discussing and voicing our ideas. He never once interrupted rudely but instead helped to gather the ideas. I think he handled us well! When we left we even saw some of his product as he was heading out to deliver cakes. I'm excited to see the cake on the wedding day next year! Look out for an updated review in May!

Did my wedding cake and they lost the picture of the cake I asked them for and when it showed up, the caterer came and told me that it had melted but it hadn't, that was they way they did it. It was supposed to be a mad hatter cake (extreme tilts in opposite directions but I guess they didn't think I wanted it that exaggerated for a wedding so they did it the way they wanted )and it looked horrible. Also Graham was completely rude in the initial sit down with my Mom and I. My mom who is the nicest meekest person in the world asked a question and he raised his voice and said I'll get to that in a minute in his militant voice. He never did answer her question. He was forceful and agitated in character and we weren't comfortable. We were taken a back and tried to use another cake person but they had our picture and cloth swatch already and I was only in for 2 days from CA so we let it go. They charged me $600 for a medium size cake that should have been discounted heavily for the melted look of it. What a waste. Do not recommend at all. When I called to complain, he said there is nothing he can do. He truly wasn't concerned at all. I said I should cancel it on my credit card and he said that's exactly why he doesn't allow credit cards and gets money up front. Wow. Great character.

My wedding was this past weekend, and I can assure you that it does not get any better then 'Cakes by Graham'. His staff Michaela and Ian are so friendly and helpful that it was a pleasure from the very beginning. Our consultation with Graham was wonderful, and his creativity and enthusiasm contagious. Most importantly, the cake. Graham is an artist, and he not only takes great pride in making a cake that is beautiful to look at, they taste absolutely amazing. The presentation was impressive and lovely. Incidentally, his website is amazing, full of wedding cake inspiration. I couldn't be happier.

Our wedding cake was just perfect and delicious. Meeting with Graham, he truly walked us through the whole process STEP by step and made sure we were getting exactly what we wanted for the best value. He provided as many samples as we'd like so that we could pick the flavors we loved the most to make our cake exactly what we hoped it would be. He was a joy to talk to and work with and his cakes are not only beautiful but also mouthwatering.

Working with Graham and his assistants to plan and design our wedding cake was a breeze. They are very professional and have mastered the process to make everything easy for all parties involved through each stage. You have to pay for a cake tasting with them, but that is the case with most companies, and they apply it to your account if you choose to book them. Our wedding cake was delivered exactly as discussed, colors were matched perfectly. The cake tasted amazing and looked beautiful too. I wished that I could have had a more intricate design for the price paid, but we weren't willing to spend more than what our budget allowed. They are a bit pricey, but you are paying for quality and to be assured that you will love the product you get on your wedding day. I will definitely refer them to anyone looking for a specialty cake.

Of all of the crazy decisions that went into planning our wedding, choosing our cake was the simplest. We were planning our wedding from out of town and did a marathon of local, highly reviewed cake bakeries in Richmond. While the others would have sufficed, Graham blew the competition out of the water with his professional consultation, impressive gallery, and, absolutely literally, the best cake I have EVER had in my life. He knew just what we were looking for, helped us with all of the steps, and it turned our fantastic. The taste of the cake was one of the most important factors to us, but here is the kicker: aside from paying a small fee for the initial cake consultation itself, his price quote MATCHED ALL THE OTHERS IN THE AREA. He charged us no more for his delicious and beautiful cake then the other, more lack-luster bakeries in the area. He was one of the best finds for our wedding and we had the privilege to work with many fantastic vendors. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I wanted a Virginia Tech Football helmet for my husband's groom's cake at our wedding- Cakes by Graham definitely delivered! I got to handle all interactions over email or phone; this was an added perk as I was planning my Richmond wedding from 3 hours away. The cake was well-made and I'm assuming delicious since there wasn't a piece of it left after dessert was served. I also think the price was very reasonable for what I was asking for- a spherical cake with fondant, lettering, etc. Thanks, Cakes by Graham!
