This is my favorite pizza in Richmond but its nicer than your typical pizza joint. The Church Hill is delicious. I am equally impressed with the staff who are friendly and knowledgeable - able to make wine recommendations, etc. a lot of the seating is for 2-4 so you see a lot of people on dates.

I really expected the pizza to taste better based on the rating and the reviews but it was not that good. I got the meat pizza and it was mushy in the middle and the sausage had a funny taste to it. The sauce was pretty bland. They were skimpy on the cheese too. Just not the brick oven pizza experience I was expecting. There seems to be other options for brick oven / wood fired pizza in Richmond and I will definitely try one of them next time I am in town.

I miss the old lunch menu before the new Taphouse concept. The muffaletta sandwhich was just OK. The olive tapanade really took over and I didn't taste any basil aoli. The shoestring fries were cold. My work wife had a nice salad with salmon. She said the salmon was fishy and under seasoned. Yawn!!! The only thing I really enjoyed was the french press coffee! Need a better lunch menu. A little over priced for lunch. Sandwhich and fries $11.00, coffee $3.25. Sald with Salmon $13.50. It was more like a dinner menu. Miss the greek salad too! May go back in the evening to try the pork belly app. Probably will "not" return for lunch!!!!

Sette has a friendly and casual atmosphere. It has superior service. The pizza is awesome. As the brand says - fire roasted pizza. The crust is thin and cooked to perfection. The toppings are tasty and fresh with the amount used to highlight taste - not too much but not skimpy either. And it's reasonably priced. Definitely worth a try.

Came here a few nights ago. We had the pork belly pizza and a burger. Good beer selection but the food was right about 3 stars. Ok but not great overall. The price was higher than the food deserved and ended up at close to 50.

Delicious pizza and salads! I love the herbivore and the balsamic dressing. Thin crust that is perfectly seasoned.

Good pizza and salads. Seems like they are always open and have a table available. The service is always pleasant and the food is great and reliable. I have never had a bad meal here. The church hill pizza is great and so is the vineyard salad. I think they make all the salad dressings in house.

My favorite pizza place in town! Their Church Hill and Greek pizzas are my favorites. They also make a great spinach salad if you are looking for something lighter. And their service is always speedy, even when they have a full house.

What the heck happened to this place? When this place opened 3 years ago, it was great with premium and fanciful ingredients. When I went last week, the pizza was just bleh. I ordered the Wild Mushroom without thinking. Previously, this pizza had been a delicate pesto sauce with a mix of cheeses (including goat) with sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms. Now it is a greasy pie loaded with gummy cheese and a few mushrooms. Richmond isn't exactly the home of amazeballs pizza, but I was seriously disappointed.

My wife and I were disappointed as well. We walked into the new entrance and found the atmosphere nice, comfortable, spacious and clean but people would walk through the front door, through the dining area frequently and head through a door towards the outside area, that and the headlights from the intersection at Broad St shining in your face as you dined was annoying. Greeted by two larger flat screens than in the previous resturant, I was a little sad the best they had to watch was Duck Dynasty and Soccer. The service was pleasant but slow. We ordered burgers and when asked about how they should be cooked, she offered, with pink or no pink? We both ordered no pink. My wife's burger came back medium rare, pink throughout. Our fries came five minutes after the burger. My burger was tasty as well as the fries, though I missed the tiny shoestring fries they had before. Our favorite menu items were no longer there as well. While change can be good, it's not always necessary. The apology cheesecake for the improper order was delicious though. Also the wife ordered a drink, the Stella, which she said was the best thing going for the Resturant. It was an okay experience there but not enough for me to go out of my way to return. It'll do.

I have been here a few times and find Sette... average at best. The salads are eidible and well sized, and the hummus platter is a surprise even if the "pita" included is merely some of the same baked flour they use as pizza crust Wine and beer specials on certain nights make the otherwise jacked prices on booze worthwhile. The atmosphere is pretending to be upscale, lighting is low, and the cramped parking lot is lined on a seemingly obtuse angle. I am utterly confused why the lot tends to be full due to the tasteless-ness of the pies. Service is polite and not pretentious... that is a plus at least. The pizza is of the "wood-fired" variety that is in vogue. you get a snazzy looking menu with designer toppings to boot. it takes more than cute names & semi-vivid descriptions to make a menu work in the real world. if there were only a half dozen simple toppings done right Sette would deserve more than 2 stars. If the taste was not borderline average, Sette would deserve more than 2 stars. it ends up being a one location "theme restaurant" on par with Chipotle or Olive Garden. Sette fails because the sauce is bland & crust is blander. remember when Henry Hill mentions at the end of Goodfellas that he ordered spaghetti marinara & all he got was "egg noodles & ketchup"? this spot would be out of business in a few months in Jersey, and not because of a mob hit but due to lack of attention to detail.

I would only stick to ordering pizza on the menu. apps aren't very good. but Love the BBQ and margharita pizza. also the ceasar salad is great - it's a whole romaine roasted over the fire with butter crutons.

Half off beer on thurs is a great deal and the herbivore pizza is really good.

Worst Pizza in town... tied with Bottom's Up. The Crab Dip was just ok but the Old Bay made it taste cheap and the dried parsley garnish didn't help. Service is friendly, drinks are good, but food is awful. Prices on the pizzas are too high considering how small and poor quality they are.

Husband and I took my brother-in-law here for his birthday. We're vegan so we just order our pizza without cheese. I got a custom order of mushrooms and pineapple and my husband got the wild mushroom pizza. I guess cheese is their main ingredient when it comes to pizza because the toppings on our pizzas amounted to about a tablespoon! Seriously. The crust was so-so, cracker-like with not a lot of sauce. They also brought my husband a beer that was total foam and acted like it was his problem to deal with. Really disappointed. My brother-in-law, who's omnivore, got the pepperoni pizza (it had a name like Church Hill) and it looked to be covered in cheese with some incredibly thinly sliced pepperoni, like transparent. I know these are tough times, but skimping on ingredients isn't going to bring anyone back. Other than serving the beer of foam, the service was fine. I guess my brother- in-law liked his pizza, he took some of it home.

Holy. Hell. So, I'm sort of a pizza snob. Specifically, thin crust pizza. I can't really recommend Sette enough. Our waitress was courteous, swift, and tolerant of two loud strange geeks discussing machine metaphysics in the middle of what was intended as a classy restaurant. We actually got a pizza each, which worked out rather nicely with each pizza massing at 10". In a word, awesome. It was probably some of the best thin crust cheese I've found in town, and you could even taste the pedigree of the fresh mozarella that they had used. Just an all-around excellent experience.

Hands down, my 2nd favorite pizza spot (#1 goes to 8 1/2 on Strawberry). I love Sette, I love the restaurant atmosphere. I love the back patio. I have never had bad service, bad food or been asked to wait- ever. That being said, this place is amazing and I would definitely recommend this anyone. Oh- and don't be bothered by the comparisons to Bottoms Up because there isn't any. You can't compare two totally different styles of pizza. My typical order goes a little something like this: Some type of mixed drink from their extensive menu 1 half grilled caesar salad (yummy with all that good grill taste!!) 1 pepperoni pizza I order the salad to prevent me to gorging on the entire pizza (which I know better than to do unless I want to spend an infinite amount of time at Gold's the following day). Eat here because it's good. Just give it a try if you don't believe me.

Good pizza -- not as good as Aziza's a couple of blocks west, but more selection, more seating, other atmospheric elements to recommend it. Nice patio if the weather is good.

Love this place. LOVE their crab dip appetizer. It's definitely enough to share with your date, probably with some leftovers if you are ordering pizza too. It comes with hot pita for dipping. Delish.

A big group of us went and we all got pizzas (figured they were the safe bet). They were ok, not great, not bad. Just ok. For a place the specializes in pizza I expect something better and different. I will keep looking. It was kind of in a random location too, I ended up parking at the shopping center next door because I didn't want to deal with their tiny parking lot.

    Great pizza for lunch.

  • Hanel C.

Have been here two times now and I have to say, the pizza's pretty good. It's not perfect, but better than Bottoms Up. The decor is well done although I don't like the two lanes of booths that run along the middle of the restaurant, because the booths are right next to each other with just a screen in the middle. You can practically hear everything the people in the booth next to you are saying. I recommend the fried mozzarella appetizer, and as for the pizza, the carnivore is my favorite so far, but the Greek is also delicious.

Went here for lunch the other day and thought it was good. Business was slow, which surprised me a bit since it was 12:30 on a Saturday. But the food was good and the service was good as well. I plan to go back for their Sunday Dinner Date. Overall, it's not the absolute best pizza I've had but it was certainly a lot better than some (I'm looking at you, Blowtoad)!

Great location in Shockoe Bottom with a wide selection quick and affordable gourmet pizzas and salads. In addition, their main entrees do not disappoint, especially their salmon. They have an outdoor terrace area as well making for a nice refreshing environment to eat, and they have a small delivery radius as well. They have numerous specials throughout the week, including half priced wines and beers and discounted pizzas. Really a great place to eat for quality casual dining.

This was the dinner spot the other nite for the conference and I must say they were pretty tasty. The pizzas, salads, and sandwiches looked awesome! I had pizza the nite before so I opt for the sandwich (salami, proscuitto, and chicken panni)...D-E-L-I-C-I-O-US!!! IT came with a HUGE pickle (I'm not a fan though) and yummy potato salad. Oh and a WARNING: make sure to specify if you want a small or regular salad! The small size is NOT a side salad size. The only difference between the small and regular size is the amount of lettuce in the salad! LoL. Besides that, I heard the salads were "wonderfully filling and tasteful"

  • Whitney A.

Definitely a solid 3.5 place. Pizza is pretty good, a little on the thin side for my liking. I had a pizza with two meats on it (the Church Hill special?). Service was fast, beer list was alright and the pizza was good. Not a bad option for the Bottom/Hill area.

Stumbled upon this restaurant with my girlfriend after stopping by for lunch at another place down the street and finding out it was closed. It was mostly vacant at 2:30 in the afternoon - granted, it was the day before July 4th - so service was prompt. Not in a mood for any specific cuisine, we were more than satisfied with the Chesapeake. The thin crust was sublime, the cheese melted to perfection, and the tiger shrimp scrumptious. My only complaint was that the amount of herbs and crab meat was lacking, but even this couldn't detract from our meal. A pizza here is individually sized, but by no means small. I haven't had anything else here so I won't comment or speculate on other menu items, but the Chesapeake is what earns this rating. The decor here is very sleek and modern; there's a certain elegance and simplicity that I particularly liked. Definitely worth checking out.

The bartender on Friday is great. Spinach salad with pulled chicken is a favorite. You must get it with the honey mustard dressing.

  • Holly F.

came here friday night and it was busy, but we were sat right away. there is no draft beer, which is odd for a pizza place, but i wasn't drinking that night anyway, so who cares. we were starving so we ordered the hummus plate for an app. it was a ton of food and absolutely delicious! warm soft pita bread, cucumbers, red onions, kalamata olives, feta chunks, tomatoes, peppers, yum yum yum! i also ordered a salad and that was good, too, but i wouldn't have ordered it if i had known the hummus plate would be so big! the server mentioned the rustica pizza was the special of the night so we ordered it. i didn't care for the prociutto chunks on the pizza, but other than that it was great. really thin crust, good & cheesy. not the best pizza i've ever had or anything, but good, reasonably priced and big. i can't wait to go back for the hummus!

The pizza is really good here and I am super pizza snob. The crust is great and the toppings are fantastic. When you go here you differently need to get the grilled caesar salad as well.

As far as a thin crust pizza goes it's good. Nothing can touch Bottoms Up, but this is completely different. Not the best pizza ever but definitely good and not too expensive...good for sharing.

Looked all over Richmond for a place fot brunch that didn't Jane an hour wait for brunch and stumbled into this hidden gem. Outdoor seating and ambience was nice. Started off with the honey truffle parmesan fries which were crispy and delicious, the sweetness of the honey made a perfect balance. The french press coffee was stong and fresh and the bloody mary's were spicy and delicious. I had the Scottish Eggs with the Prosciutto hash which was unique and tasty and my wife had the breakfast pizza, which was larger than life and very flavorful. Would definitely go there again next time I'm down in Richmond

What a great place, especially their patio area with this amazing VA weather today of no more than 68. Phenomenal brew selection. Great apps and entrees. Service by James was exceptional. 4 of us had their truffle/parmesan fries as an app. They were to die for. I had the Scottish eggs brunch special with a hash that had prosciutto in them...EXCEPTIONAL!

I take them back to 5 stars after my previous four star review. I went back to the now 23rd and Main Taproom (previously Sette) and loved it again. My first return after they went through the reconstruction I wasn't pleased with the service and the loss of my favorite appetizers. This time it completely redeemed itself. Great service, a really good cocktail (cant remember the name, but kind of like a mimosa with strawberry and mint added...yumm). And the big winner of the fifth star: HOLY CHEESECAKE! I had never had dessert on a previous visit but this time I decided to give the cheesecake a go, and it was the BEST cheesecake I've ever had IN MY LIFE. Somehow they make it seem more whipped and light and airy. Instead of a graham cracker crust it's a nutty delicious manna from heaven crust. Please try it....just promise me you'll try it.

Sette is a great little restaurant and bar with solid food options, memorable bartenders, friendly waitstaff, and a great ambiance. Enjoy coming in here for a drink or food. The consistency in food quality has impressed me. It is a place you can take people from out of town and know that you'll have a good meal everytime. Even when I place a take out order, the food is still spot on and warm. The beer and wine selection is also good and they have some specialty cocktails worth trying.

The truffle fries are the best in the city burgers and pizza are always great. Great happy hour.

  • Jonah P.

A broad, well-executed menu that perfectly partner with a thoughtful beer program. The appetizers range from traditional bar food to the more exotic, salads are flavorful and creative, and the pizzas are thin-crispy and use incredibly fresh ingredients. With both indoor and outdoor space, and prices that are very reasonable, 23rd and Main is equally appropriate for both happy hour and family dinner.

A good happy hour, great location and beautifully done space. Tried a variety of appetizers and they were all delicious. Friendly and prompt service. Highly recommend!

For a city that has such great food, 23rd & Main Taproom was a disappointing experience. The restaurant was very nice inside, and parking is pretty easy to find in the neighborhood. We went for lunch on a weekday, so we were the only customers. I ordered the portobello mushroom burger and fries. The food was pretty bland. I wouldn't completely write this restaurant off, as perhaps I just ordered poorly, but my friend was not that impressed by his pizza either. There are much better places to eat in Churchhill.

Some friends and I were originally planning to go to another Restaurant Week place before heading to tango class/dancing at Rigby's Jig on Friday night, but the plans fell through for some reason (the planner canceled the reservation). However, a subset of us still wanted to grab dinner before dancing, so we headed to Sette at 6:15PM (it was within walking distance of where we all live). As my friend who took a semester of college Italian informed me, sette = seven in Italian. =) It was still happy hour when we had dinner, so I was able to order the fried zucchini appetizer for $2 off! Yay, I love zucchini! It was super yummy too, with lots of parmesan and a warn marinara sauce. For my meal, I ordered the wild mushroom pizza and a cup of soup. The soup was an interesting mix of chicken, tomato, olive, and capers. I wouldn't say that I loved it, but it wasn't horrible either. The grilled flatbread that came with the soup was one of my favorite parts of the meal though! I'm usually not a pizza person, but the personal pizzas were thin crust, so I gave them a chance. Plus, most of the menu is pizza, and I didn't feel like pasta. Although the pizza came with five different kinds of mushroom, I didn't really notice a full panel of flavors. The bread and tomato sauce were good, but the cheese was rather plain mozzarella (I was hoping for something a little more artisan). I got to sample some of my friend's gnocchi dish, which came with huge tiger shrimp , grape tomatoes, and garlic bread. I thought that dish was extremely tasty, with nice and chewy potato gnocchi in a lovely herb cream sauce. Our waitress, Emily, was super friendly and attentive. We opted to sit outdoors because the weather was so nice that day! I had a little issue with the $2 discount not being applied when I paid my bill, but Emily got that taken care of right away (it's a good thing I noticed though!). I definitely wouldn't mind coming again in the future; besides, it's so close to home! =)

We frequent 23rd and main as often as we can. The owner and manager are quite friendly and always there to greet you. We like sitting at the bar the pizza there has always been great but they have a chef that is so original, I never hesitate to order the special of the evening. Always changing the beer on draft makes my husband a really great fan of this place. Try them out you'll never regret it

This restaurant is great to meet up with friends. The bar is nice with plenty of beers, wine, and drinks to choose from. I have ordered the pizza and fries, and thought they were delicious. And I love that the have an outdoor patio!

OK...I've been passing this place for months. I'm so delighted that I had an early dinner here. Today is $5 burger day...and I enjoyed it immensely. Great beer. I had a pumpkin beer. Totally recommend this place. Wonderful ambiance!! Our waiter was Doug...he's fab. Drop by for a visit.

This place was one of my favorites for pizza. It was our staple. We looked forward to eating here about came about twice a month. It seems now that they have lost focus of what made them so popular...the PIZZAS! The selection of pizzas has decreased. They taste different now even when ordering the same thing. It seems they are purchasing cheaper ingredients for the toppings. The dough is different...more perfectly round and tastes store bought. The crab gratin appetizer was dripping in oil with very little crab in it and for some strange reason they feel the need to skewer the toast points together on the plate. WTH? This is definitely not the crab dip we used to enjoy. (sad face) They have changed the menu and are now offering burgers and other items, which to be fair, I have not tried and therefore cannot comment on. I also noticed that this place was about 1/2 full at 7:30pm on a Friday night. I remember when they would always be on a wait during peak dinner time on the weekends. So apparently I'm not the only one who has noticed the changes. The service was slow and unattentive. We waited about 10 mins after we were seated before anyone came to our table. I actually flagged another server down to ask who was responsible for our table, then finally our server came over and apologized. This should never happen when a place is not busy. (another sad face) Positives: I enjoy the extensive draught beer selection and you can enjoy a growler fill at home. Negatives: It seems they are too focused on the "Taproom" and less focused on the food. Sadly, it was a disappointment.

I recently moved out of Richmond, and I really miss Sette. I used to live nearby and would walk over there every couple of weeks for dinner. While I thoroughly enjoy their pizza (the margherita is great), I usually always order one of the specials -- they're amazing. I also recommend the lamb au jus sandwich and the fish and chips. The drink specials are nice too. Happy hour until 7pm on weekdays and they have several other weeknight promotions. Visually, I really like the redesign; though I feel it's a bit disconnected in both concept and execution. I don't think the burgers are the star of the menu, but I'm happy they influenced a wider beer selection. Lastly, I've always had excellent service here. The staff is competent and friendly without being overbearing.

Just went to this place tonight. I didn't try any of the cocktails, but they looked creative and original. I opted, instead, for a flight of their beers. They had a pretty good selection, but I wish they would include a description of the beers like some of the other local places do. I had the California burger to eat and my girlfriend got a pizza. Both selections were good, but there are other places nearby with both better burgers and better pizzas. My burger WAS cooked to my desired temperature though, which was great-- it seems to be increasingly difficult to find places that will actually serve you a medium-rare burger when you order one. Our server was friendly and she knew the menu well. My only complaint is that she left us hanging several times, and would just drop food off and run away before we could order another drink or ask for something else ( ranch, etc.). I can't fault them for being busy, but I can fault them for being understaffed-- she was definitely too busy. Overall, not a bad place, but there are definitely better options near by, to include honey whytes, Aliza's on main, and station 2.

boyfriend and i went here last weekend for our anniversary dinner. i wanted to like this place so much more but it was hard to. i think we both would of liked it more if we had been able to sit outside on the patio, which looked awesome. there was nothing special about the interior or about the service. the service wasn't bad by any means but it was also nothing to write home about. the pizza was good but i had the issue of comparing it to the neapolitan pizza i had in italy. boyfriend hasn't been to italy and he also thought the pizza was average. for the price you pay, the pizza should be better. the pizza isn't bad but it wasn't great either. i stuck with the margherita pizza. the ingredients were all very fresh but the pizza wasnt thin or crispy enough, like neapolitan pizza should be. boyfriend had half chicken and half bacon/pepperoni. he actually ended up liking mine more. this place is worth trying but i wouldnt go back, only because it was too expensive for what you get.

I went here last night they had $5.00 burger night the burger was good and I had my fav bold rock! They have a nice bar atmosphere and the crab dip is awesome. It's quaint and clean with a historical flair. I have been here several times and I usually get the pizza which is delicious also. They have a wide selection of beers and wine, I like the fact that they have draft beer.

I wanted to like this place based on location and layout but....I left feeling differently. I went with a group of people for my birthday lunch during the workday based on a colleagues suggestion. The server was friendly and answered our questions about the menu so no complaints about his actual service. After eating my meal here, I learned a valuable lesson: If someone raves about a particular menu item or section of the menu, just roll with it. My colleague kept commenting on the pizzas and how she always came for the pizzas, she didn't really reference anything else. So, of course, she raves about the pizza and I choose to have a burger. Our server seemed pretty happy (based on his facial expression) that so many of us--4 of 6 chose burger selections--it was lunch and the entrees would have been too heavy and most of us didn't want pizza at the time (although there were some great looking options on that section of the menu). His standard line was "pink or no pink" of which 3 of us said "pink". Additionally, my colleague ordered the Shallot Dip and Homemade Chips "for the table". The appetizer arrived and smelled delicious although I couldn't enjoy it since I have an onion allergy (I know it's weird) and can't directly ingest them. Everyone said it was amazing and some even put a little aside for their fries (at the experienced colleagues suggestion). Note for later: I DIDN'T HAVE ANY OF THIS. I ordered the Redeye, which is a burger w/ a sunny side up egg and sugar cured bacon (minus the onion), my other colleague had the same, another the 23rd and Main (a standard burger) and the final, a Lucky Strike which had a red wine demi glace that she said tasted like standard au jus and didn't really have the hint of red wine she thought it would. I've never had a harder time ingesting a burger in my life, as a matter of fact, I cut it in half because the sunny side up egg runs out and this was about the only moisture the burger had. My burger and everyone else who ordered "pink" was black on the outside and gray on the inside. Pretty disappointing for a place that has Blackened Red Snapper on the menu to fail utterly on a burger, but they did! It's almost annoying to read so many great reviews and have to post a 2 star and in most cases I would give a place like this another try for dinner but I'm just not sure anything on the menu compelled me enough to feel like I need to have it enough to risk a bad meal on a date night. Last note, the server didn't understand that when person orders an app for the table, you either ask if it's on their bill or assume it is but I was charged 1/6 (who knew they could do that) of the price for the Shallot Herb Dip that I couldn't eat! So while it was only a little more than a dollar it added to the a la carte pricing ($2 for fries with your burger) that was already not worth it to me after the burger. If you love a good burger and are looking for a fun place for lunch just hit Burger Bach in Carytown, and you won't feel turned off by the pricing, otherwise this place may just be a dinner joint for some. I will come back and edit if I ever try it again.

I ate here recently with some friends and was really impressed. Everything on the menu looked really tasty. When the food came to the table, each plate was attractively presented and everything tasted very fresh. The patio atmosphere was great for socializing and relaxing. The service was attentive without being overly so. It was a great time at a great place. I look forward to returning.

Great casual local taproom. The ambiance is really nice and it's a fun place to go for just a drink or for food. The staff is very friend. My favorites are their pizza, vineyard salad, and tuna tacos, although the menu is a bit limited. They've got pizzas, burgers, and a bunch of entrees, although some of their sandwiches are limited.

Great beer selection, tasty pizza and burgers, good atmosphere, but the entrees were too salty. Stay away from the steak frites, the sauce was unbearable. Otherwise, fine.

Finally got around to trying this place out. We went on the day we knew they were offering their date night special. Interestingly enough, the date night really only saved us about $5-8 which means the prices here are a lot more reasonable than I thought they would be. Win-win. Previous Yelp reviews had me bracing myself for a tiny cramped space which I did not encounter. This place is way bigger than many places in the Fan, and the booth I sat in was super roomy. The food was delicious, and each course was perfectly timed. The calamari was served with tapenade sprinkled over it and I thought that was unique and tasty. I ordered the grilled caesar salad even though I much prefer my salad raw, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Love the tangy dressing, the good amount of parm cheese, and the slight char on the beautifully presented romaine. Next up: the Church Hill pizza, which I loved. The crust on that pizza was to die for. It is fluffy and chewy, but not too thick, and has a wonderful wood-burned flavor. So good. The tomato sauce was great too, tasted homemade, but I'm already dying to try a white sauce pizza which I'm sure is going to highlight the crust even more. We finished with tiramisu. I've never cared too much for tiramisu, and I thought it was alright. The boy loved it, though. So much food for $26 plus tax and tip. The servers were pretty busy on this particular night, but they seemed to handle it quite well.

After a crowded and sweaty excursion through the chaos that was the Bacon Festival and being ditched by my friends for the cool respite of the James, I found myself with 3 agonizing hours to spare until my boyfriend's shift was over at the festival (poor guy) and I could get a ride home. Just when I thought I'd have to pay a visit to the dregs of Parachute Factory to wait out my hours with a hungover friend, I ran into a couple of equally ragged friends who had walked about 20 blocks and also suffered the let down of the pig fest. We were in need of an actual meal and an ice cold alcoholic beverage. BAD. Sette was the choice, being that it was a block away. I went in, expectations high from all of the word of mouth reviews I'd been privy to. "They have the best pizza!" I was not let down in the least. It was packed. Prime lunch hour and overflow from the failed festival. The bar was just as inviting as it was empty so we beelined. I promptly ordered a water, gulped it down in a matter of seconds and ordered a vodka tonic to slow things down a bit and check out the atmosphere. The look is very modern - black and metal with a sleek vibe. I heard talk of a patio but never got that far. In conclusion - I have no idea. The menu had my indecisive tendencies in overdrive; everything sounded delicious! Hefty salads, generous sandwiches, creative but classic pizza choices and a few pasta and fish entree options. Barely any red meat meals. And when I say barely, I mean none (lame). Normal apps (crab dip, calamari, mozz sticks, blah blah). Cocktails looked interesting, and I heard they are known for their martinis which I will discover on the next trip. Prices are awesome, nothing over $14 (special cocktails however are another thing). I wanted to go "light" so I ordered a grilled cesar salad with anchovies and pulled chicken. Friend 1 ordered the crab dip and the tomato and mozzarella grilled cheese, and Friend 2 ordered a side cesar and the white pizza. My grilled cesar was superb. Two normal sized romaine hearts drizzled in the house cesar, dressed in white anchovies and sprinkled with parm and marinated chicken (croutons on the side). The anchovies were split long ways and the most fresh, fragrant taste I've ever had in Richmond. The chicken was tender and seasoned to perfection, a really good sized portion too! I also liked that the salad wasn't doused in dressing which btw, had a great taste - a little chunky and a smidgen sweet. The white pizza was outstanding as well. Great consistency, not an overwhelming white sauce and a thin, soft, buttery crust. I felt bad because I couldn't stop eating it and it wasn't mine. What I taste dof the crab dip was good. not legendary. I'm kind of a crab dip snob though. I need the ratio to lean more to the crab and cheese side and less on, well, everything else. Overall I had a lovely impromptu Sette experience with some fun friends. I will definitely be back to try out that patio, those martinis and more of the pizza, hopefully before leaving this great town next month.

I went to this place on a whim. AND I WAS BLOWN AWAY. I had the Greek Burger with the most epic combo of toppings; Feta, tatziki sauce etc etc...On Point. The beer menu has 12 beers on draft which are pretty crafty. I always find something good to sip on. I am more of a high IBU kind of guy but I can always settle for a heavy stout. I highly recommend this establishment. Give it a whirl.

The food was fine but not great - I expected a bit more paying $10-12 for a burger. Plus who makes you pay +$2 for fries?! That should come with the meal. Sat at the bar, service wasn't that great. Good stout recommendation though.

We had a great time. We're Richmond locals and are familiar with the food scene. This place offers a great bang for your buck. There's a nice selection of drinks and food. We ordered "Date Night" on a Sunday. This was a meal for two: any (one) appetizer, salad, pizza (10in) and desert for less than $30 a couple. You share each course. It was a great deal and great quality food. We ordered the featured Calamari, Vineyard Salad (with balsamic vinaigrette on the side, substituted the blue cheese crumbles with feta cheese), church hill pizza and upside down pineapple cake with ice cream... It was a super tasty meal for the $. The environment was nice. It's a chill and relaxed place with a good mood lighting. Not very busy. Barrett was our server and he did a great job. We enjoyed our experience and recommend it to a friend. A simple quality Richmond restaurant.

One of my good friends lives within walking distance and loves the patio, so it was an obvious choice for a late-spring Friday night. I was glad to see some great Italian wines on the list, even if most were IGT instead of DOC. I started with the Gavi - a great white that more places should carry. My pregnant friend asked for a virgin pear martini and was greeted by an odd look, but they did bring her something pink and fruity, so she didn't seem to mind too much. We split the hummus to start - garlic coated pizza dough, feta chunks, pepperoncini, tomatoes, and red onion all accompanying the creamy bean sauce. It was a nice change from the usual flat bread and celery. I got the margherita pizza. I've been spoiled by the Neapolitan pizzerias in Atlanta. This was good pizza, but not at all what I've come to expect for a margherita. There was lots of sweet sauce, good chunks of melted mozzarella, and shredded basil. The mozzarella was the best part. The crust didn't have enough chew or enough char. Despite these differences, I still ate the whole thing.

My wife and I were walking around Richmond and found this place by accident. I am glad we did. Service was excellent and the food was very good. We were there for lunch and sat in the outdoor courtyard. That was great. We started with some Honey Truffle Parmesan French Fries with one of the best aiolis I have ever had. My wife had the soup of the day which was a Crab and Shrimp Bisque. It was killer. I had the Home Corned Beef sandwich with Swiss Cheese. Add to that a hot German Potato Salad. It was all really good I would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Richmond.

Great location in the downtown area. The service was wonderful and the servers were extremely friendly. The food is incredible! Not a bad thing on the menu. The pizza is a must try as well as the deserts. Will make this a must place to eat when visiting Richmond.

I really liked everything except the pizza, which wasn't bad but doesn't deserve to me mentioned as one of the best in Richmond. I got the wild mushroom pizza, and two other people at the table got margherita pizza. The salads, however, WERE among the best in Richmond. The half vineyard salad was cheap, excellent, and nearly a meal in itself. One person at my table got salmon, which he raved about. The crab dip appetizer was good. What bumps this up to a 4 for me is the price - very, very reasonable. We went for dinner, but this could also be a great lunch place (and I'm sure it is for lots of folks who work down there).

Unique appeal: outdoor seating, same reasonable menu at lunch or dinner Sette is one of my go to lunch spots. They have excellent pizza that is big enough to have a few slices leftover and generously sized salads - you can add chicken, salmon, shrimp or steak to any salad. My personal favorite is the full size spinach salad with pulled chicken ($11.95) and honey dijon dressing. The salad is topped with roasted red peppers, mushrooms, pecans, gorgonzola and chopped egg. The restaurant is narrow, which means that the wait staff frequently passes by your table and they are very attentive to drink refills, checks, etc. The outdoor seating is a large, recently renovated courtyard area with about 10 tables.

Sunday Date Night! Call this establishment for the details, I don't want to misquote -- but definitely hard to go wrong with that deal. I think it was something like: 1 App, 1 Pizza, 1 Dessert: $24.99. A nice way to end a Sunday in the Bottom...

I went to 23rd & Main last night for the first time. The atmosphere was nice, the food was delicious (good options for vegetarians), the prices were reasonable and the service was great. The only problem was a very drunk (i.e. loud and obnoxious) customer that should have been asked to leave but wasn't, which was distracting and frustrating at times. I still definitely recommend this restaurant!

I decided to walk to Sette for an early dinner.Sette was on my pizza bucket list. From 4-7pm, Sette has drink specials. I order the house margarita (Mondays $3). The house margarita was tasty. I had a hard time deciding what pizza I wanted to try. I chose the carnivore (Fire-roasted tomato sauce, sausage, cappicola, salami, pepperoni and prosciutto with mozzarella). The carnivore pizza was delicious. I enjoyed every bite. The crust had good texture (thin). The fire-roasted tomato sauce was flavorful. I appreciate the fact that my pizza did not lack toppings. I like how the sausage was sliced and not ground. The waiter will shred cheese on your pizza if you desire. I added a Cesar salad to my meal for $1.99.The Caesar salad was good. The salad wasn't overwhelmed with dressing. I made sure to leave room for dessert. The tiramisu was good. The cream filling made the dessert. The tiramisu portion size was small. The restaurant isn't very big. Seating is a bit cramped. The service was slow, the restaurant wasn't very busy. The employees were friendly. The restaurant has cool decor. I liked the ambience. There's street parking in front of the restaurant and parking in a small lot. If you're looking for quality pizza in the Shokoe Bottom area, Sette is a good choice.I give Sette an 4.5 rating.

The main problem I had with this place was the waitstaff. They brought us our drinks and then never returned. I kept looking around to try and find our waitress, but she was no where to be found (maybe she had tables on the other side?). I'm pretty understanding of busy nights, but it wasn't very busy. Another waitress brought us our food, but only brought half the food. We sat there for a few minutes and then told the table to go ahead and eat. That was a little frustrating. Again, if the place was slammed I would understand. Also, when I got my burger (ordered rare) it was fully cooked. The food was good, but I feel like if they had their ducks in a row I would have given it 4 stars. I live in church hill and I was excited to see that Sette updated their menu. I'll go back to give it another chance. Fingers crossed it was just a fluke.

Amazing food and dog friendly! We were passing through Richmond with our two dogs and called ahead to see if they had outdoor seating. They set us up on their patio right next to the fire pit and were very accommodating and friendly. I got the lamb au jus sandwich (incredible) with fries and my wife got the greens salad and soup of the day which she really liked. Chocolate pecan pie was their temporary dessert special and it was delicious. Great beer and drinks selection, too. Wish we could have stayed longer for drinks and that there was a place like this near us in MD!

Heard numerous good things about the restaurant so I thought Yappy Hour would be a perfect time to come check out the scene. Sette has yappy hour during the warmer months on Saturdays from 4:00 -7:00 where you can bring your puppy and grab a drink. Although we were the only people there the outside setting is great! I ordered a beer and was a little disappointed there were no draft selections. My boyfriend ordered a drink which was a little on the pricey side. Food: we both had pizza's I had the herbivore and he had the church hill. Delicious! Pizza is my favorite food and I rank this in my top five list. I will be back again.

I wanted to love this place because the location and mood are awesome! The potato and cheddar soup was good, but very salty. The corned beef sand which was pretty good! The service was very slow and nothing spectacular.

Had dinner here with my family and everyone was very happy with the food. The burger although ordered well done was suprisngly juicy all the way through.the meat tasted really fresh as well. The pizza was done just right. And the hummus was incredible. We will definitely be back.

Come for the pizza.. stay for the martini... Sit outside on the patio and soak in the shade of the big trees surrounding the brick walls. The vegetarian pizza was excellent- even though I eat meat, it quite tasty and I love the thin crust. Service was decent, but if you have plenty of time, there's no complaints.

If you like pizza glopped with super-thick cheese, thick crust, and swimming in grease from the pepperoni, then Sette is not your place. But if you like a fresh, thin crust with seasoned toppings, perfectly cooked in the wood-fired oven, then you'll like Sette! Salads are some of the best in town. Service is good and prices are reasonable.

Gotta say that after a year of living in the area, whenever I want to eat a tried and true delicious pizza or change it up with a satisfying salad, I go to Sette. I've taken pretty much my entire family there when they come from out of town. Church Hill pizza is crunchy and flavorful. The Vineyard Salad is my personal favorite. I could eat it anytime. They are going to expand the business soon and I see myself continuing to come back.

I was excited to try this place. Based on the name of it "Taproom and Kitchen" I assumed it would be a fun, casual place. First off, my boyfriend asked the waiter if there were any happy hour specials and was told no, only that on Tuesday night's bottles of wine are half off. Strike one. Actually strikes one AND two because later when they brought out the dessert "menu" (can't call it a menu when it's that little stand thing that normally sits on the table and only had 3 desserts listed). This "menu" on the opposite side from desserts says "HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS". Come on dude, you should at least know the answer to that yes or no and get it right. I was also very surprised by the prices. Nothing seemed too fantastic as a dish but all of the burgers and sandwiches were $8-11 and if you want fries you have to add an additional $2. For this kind of establishment I wouldn't expect to pay $13 for a burger and fries. Maybe I'm just cheap. Overall, we were both very happy with the dishes we got. Salmon stuffed with crabmeat = AMAZING. So they win a lot of points for the dishes we tried and for the overall atmosphere, but lose out on the waitstaff knowledge and prices of food/drinks.

I don't know why I continue ordering a $12 lunch salad from Sette-- the past three times I've gone, retrieved my lunch and trek back to the office, they have included the wrong dressing. Today I even said "Please make sure it's ceasar dressing, not the balsamic that comes with it" and they replied "Oh definitely! Got it." Nope. Misled again. I know this is a small complaint, and the food is truly good, but seriously? Three times? Attention to detail would go a long way, Sette. Especially with your prices.

Went to Sette w/ my girlfriend on a Friday night. It was a little too chilly to go out on the Patio, but indoors was a very comfortable laid back atmosphere. I had the Margherita pizza and she had the Church Hill. We both got our own individual pizzas and it was definitely more than enough for both of us. I preferred her pizza to mine, but mine was great as well. The service was great, and the food was even better. Crust = 8.5/10 Cheese(s)= 9/10 Sauce = 6/10 Toppings= 9/10 (very fresh!) Definitely will go back...Great pizza for a relaxed/sophisticated eat.

One of the classier pizza offerings in Richmond, with reasonable prices and outdoor seating. If you want something lighter, try a salad!

  • Kathleen S.

It's ok. I was disappointed, I have to admit. The beer list is ok - would have liked to see some COTU and Midnight on the draft list. No Blue Mountain or Wild Wolf either. The menu is ok. We had the beer pretzel appetizer which was fresh and hot. My husband and I both had burgers - they were ok. The side is a salad. Salad. Fries - or anything else - are extra. I mean, a burger and salad?? Of course we want fries!! Duh. The space is also awkward - you go inside and then outside and then inside again. No one asked if we wanted to sit outside and the outside space was nice looking. I would probably give it another try - not sure my husband will go along!!

Went here for the first time today for lunch but it won't be the last. The crab dip was delicious with just the right amount of Old Bay zing and the pizza crust slices for dipping were tasty and plentiful. I got the white pizza; the flavor of the sauce and cheeses were great as was the crust, but it was a bit oily. My dining partner got the BBQ pizza and loved it. I had a couple of bites and enjoyed it as well. We had enough food to eat our fill and take home leftovers. Our only real complaint was that our table and both of our chairs were wobbly, although our friendly and attentive server did her best to fix the table. That's the drawback of using cheap industrial furniture. Other than that, we both agreed we'd go back and we're looking forward to trying out the patio when the weather warms up.

I love sette! The fire roasted pizzas are pretty damn awesome and I love the crab dip. A great place to chill with friends and enjoy good pizza at fairly affordable prices. I think they have half price beers on Thursday nights. (but double check that before you go) Nice patio too....although it's like sitting in an outdoor box. Hey Sette.....I'm a big fan!

Really delicious mezza plate, pesto/mozzarella/(ricotta?) app. Add grilled salmon to the yummy arugula salad for less than $5. Bread on fish and chips was a little too breaded. Great bistro feel; will def go back with date and/or with friends.

This is conveniently located close to many apartments in the Bottom, my boyfriend's apartment included. We went with some friends of ours for dinner one night and it was good and I enjoyed it immensely. They have some creative pizzas and everyone loved their pizzas. This is the type of place you go for "fancy" pizza, which I like. I didn't care for the lack of draft beers, but you can't win them all I suppose. However, our service was really good so that made up for the lack of beer.

I've been here several different times over the past 5 years. Crab dip and Grilled Caesar salads are always good starters, as well as the calamari. The food has always been rather good. Margarita and Churchill pizzas are my faves. Over the years I have realized that their service has gone downhill. Today my friend and I went here to grab some food and catch up. However, our server was by far the worst server I have had. They were extremely rude. Yes, it was rather busy tonight and they seemed a little short staffed, but rather than apologizing or excusing her being busy, they acted as if we were annoying her or an inconvenience for being there. She came by once to ask if we wanted a refill, which also took a long time to get, and seemed bothered that we said yes. Of course, I will go back because I love the food, but I will make sure I go when they are not busy. If it were just for the food I would give 5 stars, but because of the service I gave it a 3.

23rd and Main is probably the only restaurant in Richmond that consistently has great food on the menu no matter what new item it is. Also, the waiters are always prompt. My friend and I use to come here a lot when it was just Sette. We have moved away, but whenever we come back to RVA, it is the first restaurant we go to. The only complaint I have is aesthetic: I like sitting in the back room (the original Sette) more than the bar area expansion which feels sterile and less inviting.

I came here a couple of weeks ago to catch up with a friend who stated this was a solid spot for some good modern/American food. It is located right in the middle of Shockoe Bottom, on the same block as Farm Fresh. The vibe here is pretty chill and typical for the downtown area. We were promptly seated by the hostess and there are both indoor/outdoor seating. Heard from a couple of people about the burgers so I decided to give one of them a try. I got the red eye burger (naked AKA no bun) which had a Sunnyside up egg, colby cheese and bacon. I asked for my burger to be cooked medium rare but it came out to be cooked a little more than I had wanted. The patty was juicy and fresh but had a lack of seasoning. The fries came out in this little fryer basked that looked really cool and actually tasted better than the burger. My friend got one of their pizzas but when it came out it didn't look like what he ordered but he still ate it anyways.. he said it was okay and there was no meat on it which he thought there was but didn't mention it to our waitress. The scene here is bustling with young professionals but the next time I am craving a good burger/American food, I think I will look somewhere else. Only street parking here folks but there are plenty within a couple of blocks.

I lived quite close to 23rd and Main (previously called Sette) and so I frequented--and still continue to do so--quite a bit. Whether you would want to pop in for a drink at their classic bar, grab a pizza to go, or sit out on their patio under the stars, every which way is nice. I honestly love their bar--it has all the staples and sits on a nice clean and simple display. Their beer selection is wonderful--crafty but not too crafty that everything tastes like chocolate or peach or espresso. Their pizza is truly great--Sette White is to die for. The waiters and waitresses are also always nice and personable. Out of all the times I've been there, I've never had a bad experience. If the weather is nice, pop on over and sit outside on their deck area. Half priced wine nights are on Tuesday and Date Night specials are on Sunday. Can't go wrong there!

Such a surprise! Went there for brunch this morning. This place has the best coffee, made just for you in the pot. Also, has a pretty decent menu selection. Way more than we have expected! Food is amazing. Filling and healthy at the same time. Definitely will go back to try more stuff.

My second visit, wife had the mussels...she loved them. We also shared the Italian meats and olive appetizers. Everything was very tastey and the beer selection is pretty good. Sat at the bar this time and the service was on point. Will definitely come back.

Confused. Is Sette and 23rd & Main the same place? My previous review is for Sette. This review is for 23rd & Main, which I liked much more. Great menu with a good number of options, but not overwhelming. Ingredients that match a contemporary palate with gluten free options. Good beer selections (instead of PBR). Intimate space that feels neighborhood-y even though it's new and modern... hard to pull off in contemporary space. I'll be back!

Brought my father here for dinner and left with quite a bit of food. The pizzas are a lot larger than I expected. My father ordered the Porky Fig and it was incredible. I definitely think that this was my favorite of the three pies that we got. Highly recommend the PEI mussels for a starter.

At first glance, 23rd & Main looks like Hipster D-Bag Hell, where scraggy-bearded young men and badly tattooed young women talk earnestly over craft IPAs about sustainable housing and the latest iPhone app. But take a closer look and you'll see families and older couples among the d-bags. The TVs always have sports on. And the food? Awesome. Its formal name is 23rd & Main Taproom at Sette. Sette, a pizza place, came first, but the owners decided to expand into the space in front so here came the Taproom. We ate here a couple of years ago when it was just Sette. The pizza was okay but being from the Northeast I'm kind of snobby about my pizza, plus I live across the street from Anthony's on the Hill, which handles all my pizza needs. The Taproom, on the other hand, serves up non-pizza items along with the pizza, along with that quintessentially Richmond meal, weekend brunch. That's what gets my 23rd & Main love. I wish I can tell you more about the menu, but so far it's been hard for me to get away from the braised lamb sandwich. I adore lamb so if a restaurant has it on its menu it's a safe bet that I'll order it. The sandwich is absolutely delicious, the lamb shredded and piled high on a baguette, accompanied by red wine au jus and fantastic fries. If I do manage to tear myself away from the lamb, the burger is exceptional. There are some tasty-sounding brunch dishes, such as the tempura-fried breakfast burrito known as the Don Johnson for some inexplicable reason. The service has always been good for us, but then again we usually hit the place up on early Saturday afternoons when it's not crowded--like a lot of places in Shockoe Bottom 23rd & Main has a pretty lively happy hour during the week. For a nice casual meal with some adult beverages and a quiet atmosphere (if you don't go at happy hour) 23rd & Main is a solid choice in the Bottom.

Wonderful atmosphere and patio! Stopped in late at night while traveling and they had fast and friendly service. I had the tuna tacos-a little fishy but if you're ok with that, they are wonderful and tasty! My Boyfriend had the jerk chicken with fries. His first bite contained something inedible :/ That being said, he continued eating and said it was good! Overall, very good for patio seating and late dining. I would recommend!

23rd and Main is such a steal for couples. My fiance and I have had several excellent meals there for under $30. We usually start with the parmesan and honey truffle fries. They are delicious! The portion size is huge. How can you not love piping hot shoestring fries covered in honey and parmesan cheese? For our main course, we usually split a pizza. The margarita is our favorite because my fiance is not very adventurous. We've tried the white pizza before and found it to be very dry. The pizzas there are usually small, only about six slices but that is definitely enough for us after the fries. Most recently, we had the lemon bar dessert at 23rd and Main. Again, the serving was huge. We received two lemon bars sprinkled with sugar and adorned with berries. Very yummy dessert. The service is also usually good here, so no complaints there either.

I'll go 3.5 based on what I got. Chopped salad with steak. Pretty basic stuff here, but the steak was overcooked/oversalted, and a tiny portion compared to coworkers who got salmon. The vinaigrette it came with was forgettable but I don't put dressing on my salad usually anyway (comes on the side). Pizzas didn't look great Would come back to try a burger, if I'm close

So... I just wrote a review about a tasty burger and here is a review about another burger. I had a burger two days in a row! That's just cray. Ok, so no more burgers for me the rest of the week. I am burgered out for a few days. So the restaurant... Sette.... a great spot, with tasty burgers and fries. So now that we got that covered...let's talk about the pork rinds and pimento cheese. Those babies together are a delicious pair. Now that I have coupled the two... I dare not see them apart. Their relationship will last forever!!! A must try if you have not done so.

The honey truffle parmesan fries are the reason taste buds exist! I have also had the white pizza a few times which never disappoints. If the weather is nice opt for the patio and if you sign up for the emails you get a free dessert during your birthday month!

3.5 Stars. There's a part of me that really wants to give it 4 because I enjoyed my visit but the food just didn't stand out enough for me yet. I went with a few friends for a casual dinner. The evening was great out so we sat on their patio which was really quite a nice atmosphere. The inside seating is nice as well, a casual classy environment with an upscale gastropub feel and plenty of seating! Tuesdays are wine night where bottles are half off which is a great deal, I definitely recommend it! I didn't order any beer but they had a nice looking draft menu so I will absolutely be swinging by for a beer. All of us got pizzas and we split the Buratta Plate (Buratta mozzarella over slice tomato with basil pesto & crostini). The Buratta was easily my favorite, very flavorful pesto and mozzarella and the crostini was deliciously toasted to retain some tenderness. The pizza was alright, we all got white pizzas and they were a little on the dry side but not bad, I've had worse but had better as well. In general I was much more impressed by their appetizers than entrees on the menu and next time I will definitely order a few to snack on as my meal. Overall a pleasant experience, I would recommend as a spot for a casual date or meeting up with some friends to enjoy a beer and maybe some snacks!

Their service, food, drinks and dessert has always been on point! They have very delicious drinks, a great variety of food. I recently had a hiccup with a Gluten Free burger and Brian was most helpful and understanding. This is definitely our to go to and recommend it to everyone we know.

Tuna tacos are my favorite! I've only been in Richmond for 2 months and have gone over 4 times!

Everyone I was with enjoyed their meal! Mint julep was a GREAT cocktail! For being a tap house I wish they had more of a selection but overall the food was really good!

I had the blackened salmon with green beans and grit cakes, it was bomb. As an appetizer we had the fried green tomatoes and those were awesome as well. Honestly everything on the menu looked good. There is $5 burger on Mondays that I am looking forward to. The beer selection could be better, the only local beer was the hardywood pils. This place is also located close to my apartment so being able to walk there is nice.

This has been my local watering hole for the past year and also my go to option for when I want to eat by myself. They have a great draft selection. They also have wine and cocktails. There is something for everyone. Don't leave here without getting the honey truffle fries. The wings are fall off the bone tender. Good brunch option as well.

I was in town for the weekend and looking for a dog-friendly restaurant, 23rd & Main Taproom came up on my google search and I couldn't have been more pleased. The patio is more of a courtyard and very cozy. We started with beer and truffle fries. The beer list is small, but I was impressed by the options. The fries were fries, nothing special. For dinner I ordered the Lamb French Dip, it was well cooked and had great flavor, will probably try something different next time. Our server went missing a couple times which I was very perplexed because it was not busy at all, besides that it was a pleasurable experience and I will definitely be back for a visit next time I am in Richmond.

We go here pretty often because it's so close to our place. The food isn't amazing, but it always hits the spot. We almost always split the Vineyard Salad and a margherita pizza. It's a good amount of food for a light dinner or lunch and you never feel stuffed. During the women's world cup they also played the games which was a plus. Bar is chill to sit at and watch sports.

I had a great time here for the first time. My boyfriend and I both chose some delicious beers on tap and started with the assorted olive plate. We then shared the tuna tacos- which were absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend them, full of flavor, really fresh- and then the Chesapeake pizza. I liked the style of pizza but I probably would have chosen one of their other specialty pizzas, I thought the flavors on this one was just okay. I'm also from the Bay Area so seafood pizzas really have to be done right. We also shared the lemon bars for dessert which was decent. I thought everything was priced well and overall really delicious.

While I've been to 23rd & Main a few times and have absolutely loved their food, my complaints are based on their poor service and spotty accounting. My fiance and I visited 23rd & Main for their Date Night special - an appetizer, salad, pizza, and dessert for $28.95, which is a great deal. I had a beer, valued at 8.50. This brings our total bill to $37.45. We were then taxed $5.53 (14.8% of our bill). When questioned, the waitress remarked that it's just Richmond luxury tax and brushed off our question rudely. Richmond city meal tax is 11.3% which would've brought our tax total to 4.23. While we were only overcharged $1.30, I suspect that they're doing this to other customers. When you consider the number of people they're overtaxing, it will easily add up. We paid our bill and left quietly, and only thought about the issue later that night. I truly wish we would have spoken up more after questioning our waitress, but didn't want to start a fight over a few cents. Buyer beware - 23rd & Main could be easily scamming you! ** There is potential that tax was charged on the actual value of the food, rather than the charged value. However, this would not have been apparent from our receipt and our waitress stated that this was not the case. While I can't find Virginia-specific tax law, most states adhere to the taxation guideline of taxing ONLY what the consumer has paid for discounted items, rather than the true value of the meal.

We love this place for the friendly atmosphere and quality food and reasonable prices...the owner is very down to earth. We enjoy our neighborhood (the bottom)even more because of it!!!!

I live very close to this spot and whenever I have friends or family come visit this to my go to place to eat! The restaurant is so beautiful on the inside, I especially like the atmosphere at night. I've sat at tables and the bar and all the employees are super nice and attentive! I love their pizzas, the lamb dip sandwich, the fries in the basket, and the crab dip appetizer. I've been for brunch too and the yogurt parfait was amazing. The prices were are very reasonable and although the food may take a while you can tell time was put into your plate and it definitely reflects on the flavors in the food

Nice place for a refreshing cocktail - 4 stars I stopped in for a quick cocktail and was very glad I did! The atmosphere is contemporary classy but comfortable enough that I didn't feel out of place in casual clothing. The bar seated about 10-15 people comfortably, and they had two large screen TVs playing the football game. I ordered the Blanch Devereaux (Bulleit bourbon, sliced peach, rosemary, sweet tea & Aperol - $8) which was light, refreshing and surprisingly large served in a pint mason jar. It had a nice bourbon and peach flavor balanced with a slightly sweet tea to knock out the alcohol bite. Very easy drinking, and the rosemary added a nice complementing aroma without being overwhelming. Overall, the 23 & Main Taproom and Kitchen has a very welcoming, hip vibe that would be great for a romantic date or grabbing drinks with friends. I would definitely come back with my wife. :)

Good happy hour specials and great pizza. A little pricey but definitely a good place to go to every now and again. Bruschetta - best around this RVA area.

Small place. Seating was tight. Good atmosphere. Food was nothing to write home about. Pretty average. Chesapeake pizza was ok, but one piece of shrimp per piece is kind of skimpy. Hubby's fish and chips was overdone. They did quickly replaced it with better fish, but why did it come out of the kitchen in the first place? You could tell by the color of the tempura batter that it was overdone. Good service and clean bathrooms. Probably try somewhere else when we come back to Richmond.

This is a great little casual place. A bar/restaurant you can actually sit and talk in a relaxing atmosphere while enjoying local beers, unique drinks, or a nice glass of wine. you also can custom order a flight of beers with a tasting of any 4, 5, or 6 drafts! There menu is great, featuring a little something for everyone. We order prokrinds and pimento cheese to share! It was delicious. I had never had fresh porkrinds and never was a porkrind fan before, but these were excellent tasty crunch morsels. For dinner we had fish tacos, fish and chips, and the Chesapeake pizza. A pizza with a white sauce roasted red peppers, crab and shrimp! The favorite of the three was the pizza and the fries served with this fish and chips. The fish on the fish and chips was a little greasy and soggy in spots, but the tuna on the tacos was cooked and seasoned perfectly! If you are a coffee drinker the french press coffee is a must, it is very tasty and unexpected for this little restaurant in Shocko Bottom. The food was not AMAZING, but it was good. The service was good and staff was friendly. the atmosphere is nice and there always seems to be parking near by. If you looking for a nice night out this is a must to try.

Just moved into the neighborhood and need a bite in between unpacking boxes, and 23rd hit the spot. We had a burger and pulled chicken sandwich. Both tasty and nothing out out of this world, but exactly what we wanted. We sat in the kitchen area which was vacant on a Tuesday evening, but the bar section was packed. They had several great looking items on the menu, and we will be back to check them out, which I suspect will bump up the stars once we have tried some of the entrees and pizzas (including GF!).

23rd & Main will always and forever be Sette in my heart. I've been going here for years and love the food. The White Pizza is possibly my favorite pizza in Richmond, and they usually have some really great appetizers and specials as well. They serve brunch on Saturdays(!) and Sundays, and have a great breakfast burrito - go ahead, dip it in the cup of syrup - you'll be glad you did. It could use a little bit more egg but the combination of flavors with the syrup will make you forget all about it. That being said, the service at the restaurant formerly known as Sette can be extremely hit or miss - and it has been for the past 6 or 7 years. If I could, I'd have given them 3.5 stars just because of service issues. They would be a full fledged 4 star experience if they could step up their service. It's better than it has been but it could definitely use some work.

This place was amazing! The atmosphere is like a friends downtown kitchen with lots of natural light. The bartender Nikki was a delight, great personality, very welcoming and she made amazing drinks. The food was also top notch we had the crab bennedict and Scottish egg which were amazing. Hollandaise sauce was homemade and the best I've had in Richmond. A must try in the city!

We had a birthday party for a group of 25 people during the day on a Sunday. Our servers were Doug and Kenna (sp?) and we worked with Joe. The service was amazing for a group this size and they were very accomodating to our demands. The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect for our event. Thank you all for helping make this a great event for us!

My fiancé and I came here after we heard about the Sunday night date night special they have. Very glad we did!!! The special was well worth it! Food was awesome and a great beer selection. Service was great and everyone was friendly. Sat outside and it was a nice little outdoor place to eat. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying something else on the menu.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Shockoe, partially due to proximity. The food, atmosphere, and beer selection all keep me coming back. I've had the pizza, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and various appetizers; all of which were very good. This is often one of the places I bring out of town visitors for a good Richmond meal.

Experienced this place for the first and last time last night. The "special" burger was bland and the basket of fries... well, you know how you will always get a few fries at the bottom of your order that are short and oily? The entire basket was filled with those fries. It was actually kind of amazing; I had never seen that many "remainder"/bottom of the bag fries at once. They also arrived after our burgers, so it took extra time to select the worst fries for us. Furthermore, the bland burger was ridiculously overpriced--$10.95 for JUST THE BURGER. The tiny fries cost extra. The service was also strange (our server lingered for 30 seconds just looking at us before she spoke, for example). I just got weird vibes off of the place in general, so the price and bad food just made it worse. I am only giving it two stars because the alcohol prices were on par with better restaurants.

I cannot rave enough about this place!! Since they expanded there is definitely a great gastro pub vibe going on. The bar tenders are fantastic and will offer advice on the selection of craft beers available. Now to the food - get the salads. They are all amazing. If you are not feeling healthy I love the specialty pizzas and there is wide variety from vegetarian to seafood to meat. If you are in the neighborhood and in a hurry they will take orders for pickup.

Dinner, lunch, brunch all excellent! Portions are the perfect size, ingredients are fresh and creative. Service is generally pretty awesome as well. Great selection of beers on tap, rotating frequently. Faves about this place so far: Brunch- delicious offering that makes it difficult to choose. Perfectly made Scottish Eggs and the Don Johnson, a deep fried burrito that perfectly combines sweet and savory. Need to come back for the French Toast and Brie... Sunday Date Night- share any app, salad, pizza and dessert for under $30. Word to the wise, the salad is huge, plenty for the next day and the pizza easily leaves a couple slices for the next day's lunch as well. The desserts are really yummy, but better eaten at the restaurant, so pace yourself. Best date night on a budget ever. Happy hour 4-7! Great selection of snacks and starters. $5 burger night on Mondays...'nough said. Planning to frequent here many, many times.
