Some friends and I wanted to try this newly opened restaurant in Ghent. The exterior and interior are well executed, but we all thought the food must be some kind of joke. Crab hush puppies came out first and they were noticeably burnt. There was a hint of a seafood flavor, but I wouldn't say crab, and of course the burnt flavor was what stood out. A friend ordered the lettuce wraps, which were inedible, unless you like cold steak-umm meat with mint in it. Another ordered the chicken satay and couldn't stomach that plate either. The mini sliders were good, which I ordered to be on the safe side. The hot dog with kimchi was not bad either, but the dog itself was low quality. Our waitress was nice and although she served our beers in nice glasses when we first arrived any following were brought to the table in bottle form. The theme is street food here but in my opinion this street food vendor better make some changes quickly in order to survive. It is really the worst tapas I've ever come across :/

If you live in Ghent please go here on week nights so when I make the trek out from VB on the weekends I will still be able to get a table! I read a review that said Streats was a gem and they were completely right. Small but modernly appointed with 9 tables and decent sized bar considering. But its true achievement is the food & service. We had the lettuce wraps, pimiento cheese, crab hush puppies and the plantain chips all were very good and left us wanting to try the bigger plates. We all ordered several "noshes" and shared each. OK, yest it is street food, but the hotdog with spicy Kimchi lifted it to a much higher level. The fish tacos were spot on for PCH west coast and the duck confit was amazing. It was hearty and very flavorful. But the soy rockfish special stole the show last night! Perfectly cooked with a seared caramelized crust. Everything from wine choice to the dessert was served skillfully with the food service quite efficient. Neil took care of us but all the staff worked to bring drinks, dishes and clear the table. We will be back soon!

I've been in Ghent for a few years now and usually am on top of the new places around, but somehow Streats got away from me! I would've never known had I not been brought here by a large party that invited me. Overall the restaurant is pretty cool looking with an urban/farm-to-table restaurant vibe (I'm not sure that it is though?). It's not huge, but big enough for our party of 10 comfortably. The servers were very friendly throughout the meal and always refilled our waters. Our waiter was also enthusiastic about all the dishes we asked about, which is always a nice quality! The good: The prices weren't outrages, but probably a little high for me considering the portions. I got a lamb burger, which was cooked well but overall wasn't very exciting. It was slightly larger than a slider and was $11. I could have sworn the menu listed cheese on the fries, but my fries definitely had no cheese involved to any degree. We also got the 'Australian fries' as an appetizer, which the server was super enthusiastic about-- they were...meh. Just basic steak fries with some odd sweet/sour dipping sauce. Nice presentation. The bad: So, why the 2 stars off?! Most importantly-- just as I finished my meal, I happened to see a mouse scampering under the barstools across from me, which then continued into the kitchen. Sometimes critters can't be helped, but seeing something like that is one of those things I will never forget and will always associate with a restaurant. The second star was for the food-- it was just okay for me. For a small place with a small menu and slightly high prices to be a winner for me, it'd better be REALLY good (see 'field guide'). Overall: The restaurant is pretty decent with terrific service and a good setup, but my experience explains why I've never heard about it before. I wanted it to be great, but it didn't quite do it for me. The 'little chef' tipped me over the edge to probably somewhere I wouldn't be likely to visit again.

My review has changed drastically due to the extreme change this place has gone through. The first 6 months they were open was okay, never anything spectacular from the kitchen. Then when that bartender took over in the kitchen, flavors improved, as well as the consistency. This last month, back to just okay. And I've noticed, no bartender in the kitchen anymore. And this guy behind the bar on Sunday seems more interested in his computer than getting drinks. Overall, one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in Ghent. My suggestion, go up the block to that other place.

Absolutely love this place. The menu is pretty diverse geographically, which usually annoys me, but this place gets it right. You can get Asian and Eastern European cuisine at the same place. I've been here a few times and everything is fresh and tastes great. The staff are really friendly and attentive. The prices are great, too. I look forward to returning and see what else they have to offer.

I really wanted to love this place because my friends come here all the time and rave about it. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things? For dinner we all just split about 6-7 items. None of them made me want to come back which was a huge bummer. Service was great though.

Great ambiance, fun drinks, and I like that the menu seems to have a fun new dish each time I come. The tres leches cake is amazing!

Awesome find for dinner tonight. Enjoyed the atmosphere and they have an awesome beer selection. 6 taps and a large variety of canned beers. Beer special was 1$ off bottled and canned beers tonight on Tuesday. Wednesday they have 1/2 priced wine bottle special!

Service was excellent! Food was just okay. Again, still have not found a Norfolk "tapas" place that lives up to its name. The concept of Streats is very similar to Compass Rose Bar and Kitchen in DC where you have common street foods from various countries. The concept is great, the food is a hit or miss. It just isn't that great. They have great ideas for the menu items but the execution both aesthetically and flavor-wise just is not there. Decor wise, this place was on point! I have a theory that there is a strong correlation between cool restaurants/bars and the presence of Edison bulbs. I am pretty sure that they had Edison bulbs (or dim lighting) which always adds to the overall intimate vibe and sexy atmosphere of a place. So well done on decor! My boyfriend had the burger that is popular here and he was not impressed. I had the mahi tacos which were so bad and looked just so sad on my plate, like staring into a palate of various shades of beige-- whatever country this was supposed to be from I'm sure would be very appalled with how their dish was represented. Like do they even try these before serving them? Come to my house and the mahi tacos I make are like 1000 times better. Basically it was a small hand tortillas (typical size of tapas) with some unflavored, dry, small nibbles of fish and some mayo-y slaw that was quite bland and a dollop of pico. That's it. Imagine how bland that would taste! These could have been improved by marinating the fish before hand and adding some lime and spice to it. Using purple cabbage slaw instead and throwing in some avocado to give it color and more flavor. Also even throwing in some pickled onions (super popular now) into it would have really made the world of a difference and a dish suitable for a restaurant of this style. There was one item we had that was very good and that was the curried chicken. The chicken was very tender and and the just overall very tasty. Three stars are mainly for the super friendly waiter we had and that curry chicken. I don't remember his name but if it wasn't for his charming self, I would have given this place 2 stars. I think this place does have potential and needs definite tweaking and perfecting of their menu items but until that changes I do not see myself returning.

Ended up here around 8.30pm Sunday night because it was one of the few places serving food that wasn't a total bar scene. Glad we did! We ended up ordering several "nibbles" and enjoying a tapas style dinner. We did not order drinks. Rosemary fries: Great! Fried just right, seasoned wonderfully, good dipping sauce. Veg potstickers: Very good. Loved the artistic use of sauce on the plate, and this was delicious. The potstickers themselves were good but nothing super memorable. Tostones: Very good. Not really a fan of the dipping sauce, but ended up using the sweet chili dipping from other dishes. A nice alternative to french fries. Fried artichokes (special that night): A little disappointing. The aioli was amazing. The batter was great. It was just so much artichoke. Having the whole heart come out like that looked great, and it certainly confirmed that they weren't just out of a cheap can, but it was too much artichoke to not enough batter/fry. If they had been quartered, then fried it would have been better: crispier, more batter-y goodness. The service was good. At the end of the night she offered us free bread pudding as a promotion. The bread pudding was great! Crispy/carmelized edges, soft custardy inside. Personally, I thought the custard/frosting was a little too sweet, but I don't eat too many sweets. My husband was a big fan, so thank you!

Great addition to Ghent! Fun menu (and not nearly as "food truck-ish" as I feared), perfect portion sizes, and interesting cocktail list. We tried the Dukkah, Tostones, Thai Beef Lettuce Wraps, Caesar Salad, Fish & Chips, Lechon Asado, Buffalo Sliders, and the Confit Duck & Soba Noodles. Everything we tried was very good, although I found the confit soba noodle soup the least interesting - the duck was not particularly flavorful, and I wish the menu was more explicit that this is a soup, as it could be interpreted as duck over noodles. I'm ready to go back and try the tea eggs, vindaloo, and shrimp green curry, and looking forward to the upcoming new items.

What do you get if you take all of your favorite food trucks and street food and squish them all into one place??? BAM You get Streats! The concept of this restaurant is brilliant... rather than chasing your favorite food through the cold, hard streets, you can instead come here... where all the dishes your heart desires are at your beck and whim. With so many fan favorites on the menu, there was no way I could narrow down the choices to just a few. The menu is Tapas style, so ordering 2-3 items per person should do it. Happily, the waitress recommended a few items as well and we settled with just the following: Dukkah - grilled flatbread with olive oil and spices for dipping. This dish reminded me of Hummus and Pita a bit... This one was ok, the first several bites were delicious but then I was left wanting more. I would probably pass on this next time and go with something else to nibble on (such as lettuce wraps... darn it!) Egg Drop Wakame Soup - came out piping hot... delicious! Bits of seaweed mixed with a cooked/shredded egg. Especially on such a cold night this soup was on point. Chicken Vindaloo Curry - this indian style dish is an exquisite mix of curry chicken over rice. The chicken is super tender and moist and the curry definitely had some kick. If you like spicy food, this one is for you. Buffalo Sliders - ah... who doesn't like sliders? You get 2 decent sized sliders per order... they are pretty thick and juicy for sliders and the waffle fries are a great addition as well. Dipped everything in a ketchup-siracha concoction and my taste buds were dancing. The slaw was unmemorable... will ask for extra fries instead next time. Irish Stout Beer - yummy... thick and creamy... if you like Guiness type beers, give this a shot too. Nothing like cooling down your spice filled mouth with a cool glass of beer. All in all, while I wasn't overly impressed with the food, I'd happily come back and give it another try. The restaurant is hip and modern, and the full bar looks like it would be an awesome place to come and hang out. They have serval beers on tap as well to keep you going. Based on other yelpers, I'll likely be trying the lettuce wraps, kimchi hotdog, and fish tacos next time around. Pro-tip - come with friends so you can try more!

This place is terrible. We were really excited to try it place based on the high ranking reviews, but after eating dinner there on a recent Friday night, we realized that it fell short in so many ways. We ordered the veggie potstickers for an appetizer, which our waitress assured us was delicous. Too bad they tasted more like old frozen potstickers that were immediately thrown into a deep fried. We also ordered the general tsos chicken and chicken vindaloo curry, both of which tasted frozen and reheated in the microwave, especially since the middle of chicken curry bowl was way hotter than the rest of the dish. This is honestly one of the first meals that I haven't been able to finish because it was so bad. We definitely won't be coming back. I recommend going elsewhere and not wasting your money here.

Bike racks, bike racks, bike racks! Please and thank you! Such a clever name, Streats, oozes "hipster" and "trendy." With that aside, I felt like I wasn't in Norfolk any more. This place reminded me of a spot you would see in Brooklyn. From the Rothko-esque paintings to the awesome garage door, you could tell this was definitely well put together. Let's get down to the business! The food! Affordable. Tapas style, with a select "dinner" size entrées. But with that in mind, it is still tapas style, so it can add up pretty quickly if you end up ordering pretty much the whole menu like we did. Started with the Dukkah, a grilled flatbread with oil and spices. Take a peek from my photos to see what it looks like. It's not much presentation wise but boy was it delicious! Pretty simple but definitely great :) a fellow elite, Julia, ordered the Chinese Marbled Tea Eggs, which both looked and tasted interesting. Our table had ordered the Meatloaf, the Chicken Satay, the Fish taco, the Kombu Dashi Udon, and the hot dog. All were good. But the fan fave was the chicken satay. The hot dog was apparently a little on the salty side and the meatloaf could use a little more salt and pepper. The udon was alright, it too could have used a little more spices to give it a bolder flavor. To cap our night, we had the tres leches, the hockey pokey ice cream and the special dessert of the evening, some variation of a cream puff. The toffee on the ice cream made it such a hit! If you must fulfill your sweet tooth, get the ice cream! Service was okay. He mumbled quite a bit and I could hardly hear him. Not awful by any means, but not overly impressive either. However, the gentleman who sat us was great! He was excited to seat us. Pretty good first time experience but nothing spectacular. We may come back real soon for another round of tastings. It also doesn't hurt that it's located within our bike route.

Pretty great place. Service was good. Appetizer flat bread with olive oil and spices was great. I ordered the egg drop soup, it saw ok. The broth was bland! I also ordered the Confit Duck and Udon Noodle bowl this was good however I could have used more noodle and duck. My boyfriend ordered the Lechon Asada bowl, it was big on flavor! They have a pretty good amount of craft brews both on tap and bottled. Get their early if you want the specials, they run out quick. Also they do not do substitution or additions to their dishes. Overall though, a pretty tasty restaurant and not too expensive.

I have managed to eat here three times during its opening week. This tells me they must be doing something right. And they are. This little gem of a restaurant glows with an atmosphere that is warm, cozy, and chic at the same time. Maybe it's my imagination, but I think I've detected some sort of a retro beatnik vibe happening here. Just about all the staff members seem to wear traditional beatnik black. And I've seen more than one diner who appeared to be fully decked out in beatnik attire. Whatever is going on with this, I like it. On to the food and my comments: EGG DROP WAKAME SOUP: I've had this twice and enjoyed it both times. Full of flavor, it came piping hot and hit the spot. One suggestion: Fill the bowl a little closer to the rim. This is my way of saying that I liked it so much that I wanted more. VIETNAMESE RICE NOODLE SALAD: Excellent. The ingredients exploded with freshness and flavor. One comment: Whenever I see the word "chili" listed as one of the ingredients, I have an expectation of feeling a tingle of heat. None was forthcoming. Maybe it was me. I can be a total freak when it comes to hot and spicy tastes. THAI BEEF LETTUCE WRAPS: Wow! So far this is my favorite item on the menu. The beef was prepared and seasoned exquisitely. Bursting with flavor, these were the best lettuce wraps I've ever had anywhere. Next time I might order this twice. SHRIMP GREEN CURRY: Excellent! BAJA FISH TACOS: Another wow! I did not expect the tacos to be stuffed as full as they were. This dish alone could fill me up. CONFIT DUCK & WAKAME SOBA NOODLES: Excellent! BUFFALO SLIDERS: A very pleasant surprise. I am normally not a big fan of sliders, but I loved these. BAHN MEATLOAF: I had this on their opening night, and this is the only item on the menu which scored a "B" with me instead of an "A." Although tasty, my meatloaf was not quite as moist as I like it. In addition, the "hot chili mayo" did not deliver the level of heat that I wanted. Again, maybe it was me and my passion for hot and spicy tastes. On a side note: During my visit last night, they brought out the Sriracha sauce and one other hot sauce after I placed my order, which I put to good use. Good move. Maybe they read my mind. This summarizes what I have sampled so far. I may very well exhaust the entire menu before too long. I am also looking forward to sampling some of their chalkboard specials. The portion sizes of their offerings are a little larger than those I've had at other tapas style restaurants. It usually takes three such menu items to fill me up at similar restaurants. Two items at Streats can easily fill me up. They provide an excellent value for your money, and there is certainly no reason for leaving hungry. The back of the menu lists their specialty martinis and cocktails. My favorite so far is their Golden Nail, which is made with Makers Mark. The staff members, including the owners and the chef, are very friendly and conscientious. They project a rare passion for their work that is refreshing and infectious. A lot of imagination and planning was involved in conceiving this place. They deserve to be proud. The vibe alone is strangely addictive to me. I feel drawn to this place, as if it were a hot and toasty space heater providing comfort to a cold room. The allure is only going to grow stronger during the colder weeks and months ahead. Overall, my first three visits to Streats have given me a composite five star impression and a rating to match. A BOFFO performance! Clue me in as a regular from now on.

My friend and I stopped in Streats when they first opened. We liked it enough to return. Each visit gets better and better. I have to give a big shout out to Larry the bartender. He is AWESOME! He is friendly, polite, engages in conversation and always remembers us when we come in. Larry, you are the best!

I love the feel of this place. The server we had was awesome and attentive, but not overly so. He was knowledgable about the menu and answered our questions. I appreciated the clear vegan symbols next to the vegan items and the fact that the kitchen would sub tempeh in a lot of theme at dishes to make them vegan. On our visit, I tried the tostones with garlic mojo, the vegetable potstickers, gazpacho, and chili lime seared green beans (a special). Everything was flavorful and brought to our table hot. Your dishes arrive at different times so you can share. It's a casual place with a small kitchen, so don't expect some orchestrated roll out of courses. The tostones were great. Nothing too exciting, but the garlic mojo made it different and interesting. The vegetable potstickers were simple, but perfectly cooked. The gazpacho was spicy with a good textural balance of chunky veggies and juice. The green beans were spicy! But really good. I couldn't finish them all since they came last and the rest of my party wasn't down for the spice factor, but they were my favorite. I drank the English snake bite, which was a mix of a cider and Smartmouth amber (I think). It was tasty and not too sweet. I didn't get dessert because there weren't any vegan dessert options (maybe a bowl of fruit, but I can't remember). I was too full anyway. I'm just visiting, but if I lived here I would be stopping by Streats a lot! The small plates remind me of when Crackers used to be on 21st street, except Streats has a louder vibe and is a bit bigger. Check this place out!

We went there tonight for the first time. The decor is modern and fun. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious! We only planned on getting a couple of drinks, but we couldn't resist ordering a few things after seeing how good the food looked at neighboring tables. We had the brussel sprouts, homemade pimento cheese, and tres leches cake for dessert. The pimento cheese was a little bit spicy and so good! The brussel sprouts had an asian-style glaze that had so much flavor. The tres leches cake was the best I've ever had!! We will definitely be back! Thanks for such an enjoyable first visit!

Stopped in here Saturday evening. Some tables were open but we opted to sit at the bar. Service was great, food was perfect. We ordered the pork and chorizo tacos, beef fajitas, and a meat & cheese plate that was on the specials.

My girlfriend and I went to streams last night and had a great time. The bartender, Larry, was attentive and confident. All of the food was good; the hummus had artichokes in it (I typically despise anything with artichokes) and it was still good. The best part of the hummus dish, for me, was what it symbolized. I had more hummus than I needed for my bread, which never happens.

Food was good, made to order. Small, trendy spot. Nice choice of beers. Menu selection is random and doesn't have much of a selection. Happy that I went, not in a rush to return, but it isnt crossed off my list.

This used to be a place where I'd eat nearly every weekend. The service was great, the food was delicious, and everyone was so friendly. The board would be so full of specials I had to ask what desserts they have. The last time I was in, the board was dominated by the "du jours" and desserts. The specials included the chili-seared green beans that just won't go away (if they're on the board that often, they should just be on the menu!). Every time my boyfriend and I wanted more food or drinks, we had to catch our server before she dashed away after making a brief stop at our table. She'd ask if everything was okay and then start to walk away after we said yes without giving us a chance to ask for a beer refill or order more food. She did not ask at anytime if we wanted more, either. It was like she didn't want to be anywhere near us until the bill got there and all of a sudden she was very chatty and was hoping to see us at brunch that weekend. The food wasn't nearly as well-prepared or fresh tasting as it had been in the past. The lettuce on my mixed greens salad was thick and a bit tough and chewy. The specials we tried, like the watermelon soup, were okay...just not as well-executed nor tasty as we are accustomed to experiencing here. The new menu is far from being as innovative as it used to be and the worst part is that the vegan/vegetarian options have nearly disappeared. There used to be options for veggie substitutions for the majority of their dishes but now there is only one dish with that option and one other that comes vegetarian/vegan (going by memory, sorry!). There are still a couple veggie appetizers, but it's the usual hummus, pimento cheese and others that have been menu staples through the past few changes. This used to be a go-to place when I wanted to eat something healthier...now it's not. Whenever someone smokes in front of their garage door, the smell quickly wafts into the restaurant. We've even smelled it while sitting at the end of the bar as far away from the door as possible. On nights when both staff and customers smoke out there it can make dining rather unpleasant. If I hadn't been so consistently wowed by this restaurant before, I wouldn't really feel like this was a bad experience. The last time was subpar - service was slow and we waited forever for our check while the staff chatted in the back of the restaurant. We had brunch here once as well and the food was a bit overcooked and not that tasty. We felt rushed and it was overcrowded and just overall unpleasant. This last trip was a one last try before we cross Streats off our list for awhile...and I'm sorry to say it's going to be another few months at least before we go in again.

I think its a great concept that each dish is a different type of cuisine. Your friend wants chinese and you want greek...no problem, you can both eat here. Staff was really friendly, they have a large drink menu and the food was yummy. Overall a great place

It was a fun night last evening. Three new places in Ghent that I have wanted to check out for a while. So it was a perfect opportunity with some Yelp friends to hit up Streats after our UYE concluded. If you happen to accidentally drive by this business at night you wouldn't be the first. It is a tiny store front and signage is good, not great. Streats is directly across from the Fresh Market which will help greatly in finding them. Parking is off the street, or the huge grocery across the street seems obvious. However I am unsure of restrictions. The front is attractive with a red half sized garage door. Prior to stepping in I was pleased to see the sidewalk clear in front of the business. I had no idea what to expect as I had yet to read a review, or view a pic. I was pleasantly surprised to see a quaint, dimly lit eatery. I felt immediately felt a warm vibe and was excited to be checking such an attractive spot out with friends. The small bar catches your attention first and seats 10 and is partially open to the kitchen. With it being just after 8:30 PM I was surprised that there were so few customers. Our group sat at the bar and met James R. friend Larry who is a musician in a local band. It didn't take long to survey the entire dining room. Concrete floors run through out. A low divider separates the bar and dining room. Ten two seat tables are in the dining room. Over sized paintings adorn the wall. Two of the tables were occupied by couples that were enjoying what appeared to be a romantic night out. Yep, it's that type of place. They have a full bar that can handle most needs, bottles of beer and six taps. After just coming back from O'Connor Brewery I choose a OB Irish Stout that was delish. Larry remained friendly and gave us his full attention. Our party also met the owner who appears to be high profile and very involved in the restaurants operation. The menu is not large, but had some unique offerings. I asked for a main entree recommendation from Larry. He quickly said a newer addition to their line up, a Lamb Burger with side of fries would satisfy me. Our Yelp group enjoyed some conversation and it took little time for my dish to be cranked out. The burger came out hot open faced with chucks of blue cheese. The fries were crinkle type and also toasty. The burger was juicy and quite yum! The fries were crispy and for some may need additional seasoning, but perfect for me. A trip to the restroom was one of the more interesting aspects of the night. I say this in gist because I usually include a review of the facilities in most reviews. Streats earns the award for not only the cleanest, but the freshest I possibly have ever used. Spacious with darn green walls and the sweet smell of winter green was a nice touch. Plenty of soap and towels too! I would like to come back and explore the menu. Bringing a significant other for a romantic night out would be a nice return trip for me.

The atmosphere drew us in! The open faced front brings the international street food theme home in a very complete way. The music selection is perfect with a variety of alternative/indie/folk playlists. Our waiter Jamie was spectacular. He was appropriately attentive and very well-spoken. We would prefer him to serve us each time we come back (and we will!) The food I partook in was the Ploughman's plate, the green bean fries, and the chicken vindaloo curry. Try Ploughman's plate was a collection of meats, cheeses, and fruits. The selection was among the best specimens for each item I've had in the area and it was perfect for sharing. The green bean fries were simple and tasty. The chicken vindaloo curry rivaled other local Indian restaurants for curry. It really hit the spot! We look forward to coming back many more times!

Another amazing night here. When we walked in and started talking about drinks, the bartender asked what kind of beers I liked and recommended the Ace Pineapple Cider and HOLY MOLY it's pretty much my new favorite adult beverage now. H ordered the roasted pork and chorizo tacos, and I ordered the shrimp Mac n cheese. I got a taste of the tacos and they were really good. They had just the right amount of lime flavor and crunch to them. The Mac n cheese had this amazing cheesy flavor I just can't get over. With just enough shrimp, it was the perfect comfort food. My only complaint is that I was too full for my dulce de leche.

Great concept for a restaurant. It is modeled after the food truck motif, the food is the major draw. The cool thing about food truck fare in a restaurant is that you can order a smorgasbord of dishes without worrying about how you're going to hold or carry everything. I liked everything but didn't love it.... The fried artichoke breading tasted like panko that I could have created at home. My Korean lettuce wraps, could of been amazing, but the meat tasted like it really was from a food truck - made a day or two ahead and dried out from sitting around too long. On a Saturday night the chef should bring his A game. I was excited to try the recommended charcuterie board. What's that you ask? A charcuterie board is the cured meat version of the cheese plate that can be an impressive appetizer. All there is to an EPIC charcuterie board is a variety of cured meats, something pickled, maybe a little pate, and a few dabs of bold flavors. The Streats version was reminiscent of my Aunt Madge's Hickory Farms platter. Some meat, some cheese, some grapes, and a hunk of bread. I did like the spicy ginger spread. A paté or terrine would have added a little textural intrigue to the typical assortment of cured sausages and meat. Most importantly, tell us what the meats and cheeses are!! The Tres Leche cake was delish! The combination of whipped cream and milk-soaked, "caramelly" (new word), spongey, creme brulesque (another new word), comforting velvety mouthful that was a perfect ending. We enjoyed the ambiance and the vibe and sat at the bar afterwards to try some of the fabulous craft cocktails! I would return to give Streats another opportunity to impress. Just not right away.

I expected more creative menu after seeing all the photos from Yelp reviews but actually they had just decent menu for everyone.. Hmm.. Anyway I chose "fish taco." It says market price so maybe the fish inside taco changes occasionally? It was really delicious! The grilled fish and tortillia and avocado were perfect! At that time the price was not bad, too. (2 tacos for 9 dollars at 10 p.m. is not a bad deal,I think) I think I will visit again and try other menu!

Excellent food, and great service. I sat at the bar with my older brother and the bartender was awesome and personable. Small menu but I like that because it's easier to choose. While the menu was small, they still had great vegan choices as well as others. The food came out within 5 minutes and was delicious. Definitely worth another visit. I'd recommend to anyone!

Met with some friends here for some drinks and apps at this locals only spot across from the new fresh market jn ghent. I can't wait to go back. I had the beef Bolgogi lettuce wraps. Fish and chips. And the cranberry bread pudding. Way way nice. The beer was great with many offerings both on tap and in the bottle. The price point was fine. The menu left you wanting to try it all. Good job. Buy local.

overpriced 'street' food, unless you are into paying $10 for mediocre tasting small portions. SAT analogy time: they are to good as the general tso's chicken on their menu is to authentic chinese food. waiter was sweet, they also have el guapo; that's why the extra star.

Know that Shania Twain song that talks about how after all the years, "we're still in love and you're still the one?" That's this place. I dropped by yesterday to say hello to a friend and have a few drinks, and the servers are still attentive, then price is still fair and the food is still good. I had the Irish pork and vegetable beer soup. The best thing I ever tasted. They also have a good selection of fancy drinks, which makes it a lot more appealing than guzzling down PBRs at other places. The place is small, so if you're with a group, make reservations. Other than that, just enjoy it. Best server - Courtney. I am biased, though, because she is a friend. There are also other servers who are just as wonderful. Chris, though, is a wonderful bartender. Make sure to stop by on the weekends when he works. Extra perks of this place: ample on-street parking. Go there now!

I liked this place a lot! The people who worked there seemed very nice. I forgot our server's name but she was very nice. The place is very small so be mindful about going during busy times--you may have to wait a few minutes for a table. Also, don't go expecting to pig out because the portions are a bit small.

In a word, dinner was awesome! The plates are small, fun, and interesting. Try this place if you want something different from the usual.

Love the concept, love the location, love the vibe. What I wish I loved was the food. Two visits now with friends who all shared their plates, means I've tried around 15 of their options. The dining experience was like a pendulum, swinging from hit to miss as the courses where presented. This was the case for our dinner both times. 3 1/2 stars.

Really charming place!! Full bar. I had Fried Artichoke Hearts with pesto dip which were very good. The Australian fries were basically fries with sour cream and sweet Chilli sauce so if you don't like the sauce it's just fries. Last I ordered the Mahi fish tacos which were mediocre and a little bland. Had to add sriracha to it. All of the food was decently priced! The bartender was very nice and talkative. I would definitely come back here to try more dishes!

This menu is all over the place! Literally spans every country on the globe (okay, not literally) and falls short almost every time. I say almost because I didn't have everything on the menu. The shrimp curry left me wanting more. Lamb burger wasn't up to par for my friends, and overall the portions were a little on the smaller side. This place is cool because it tries to blend a lot of different cuisines and bring it all under one roof -- I appreciate that, but I say stick to one thing and do it really well. Sacrifices a lot of flavor and quality in favor of having an eclectic menu, and this time it wasn't worth it.

We (my wife and I) have wanted to come here since they opened.\ and finally went on Friday. I'd give the food and drink 3 stars and the service only 2. We had the chiccarones, bulgogi wraps, fish tacos, vindaloo, lamb kebabs and rice pudding. For drinks, we started with a Maker's Mark drink and wine. The food wasn't bad, but leaned towards the bland side instead of the flavorful side. Not saying it was really bland but there could have been more to it. The service wasn't bad, but we were really rushed. I don't know if it's always like that, they wanted to turn the tables as fast as possible or because Daytona started today, but it was speedy. The food was out faster than a quick Mexican restaurant (which I like them for), but this wasn't what we had in mind on Friday. The food all arrived at once and barely fit on the table. If we hadn't felt rushed, we probably would have ordered more food and my wife would have gotten a cocktail instead of wine. They didn't have the ice cream we'd read about so I can't comment on that. I may try it again when I really am in a hurry, but for now it does not go into the pic-a-nic basket.

I like the concept. I like what is listed on the menu. I liked the service, too. However, the only food that turned out well was anything that was fried. Went with my husband and had soup, fish 'n chips, chicharonnes, and the pork bowl. The fish, chips, and chicharonnes were fried to perfection. The fish was good, the chips were run of the mill, and those were my first chicharonnes so I can say I enjoyed them but can't compare them to anything. The soup was bland and flavorless. The pork bowl was similarly lacking in flavor. The prices weren't bad but for the price, it really wasn't worth it. There are so many really good places in the area and Streats' game is not yet up to luring me away from the good eats elsewhere. My husband thinks they're OK because who ever is working the fryer knows what she or he is doing, but I have to go with the flavor of the food and on that mark, I was disappointed. I am certain I will give them another try down the road and will update my review if there is reason to do so but right now, "meh" sums it up.

Small space but doesn't feel too close. Like the space menu is small but everything sounds good. We had crab hush puppies which were good but not enough crab. I ordered fish tacos and hubby sliders. Sizes are greater than tapas but not as big as large dinner plates - I thought size was perfect. By the way they bring a very small salad prior to meal which had a great, light dressing. This is NOT heavy food, but appropriate sizes. If you are a big eater order two plates. Price more than reasonable, three drinks, three plates under 60 with tax.

Husband and I went for the first time. Service was wonderful: prompt, polite and welcoming. The atmosphere and music were also fantastic. The food was delicious. I see some reviews below that did not have a good experience, but give it another try before you write negative comments. Our food was cooked perfectly! It's a new restaurant and so far they are winning my vote and I will be spreading the word!

Streats is an almost-hidden gem on 21st St. -- in fact, if you aren't looking for it, you might drive on by. My boyfriend and I went for dinner and were not disappointed. The interior is just spacious enough to allow the coziness to not make one feel cramped, and it's quiet enough to where a conversation can be held at one table without the next table overhearing it. On a chilly fall evening, Streats was warm and inviting. And the same can be said for the food. We started with the crab hush puppies, which were the perfect blend of fresh crab and batter, served with a flavorful roumalade. We each then had one of the specials: butternut squash bisque. Both of us would probably go to Streats each and every day if it meant that we could have this soup, which was beyond amazing. It should be added as a permanent offering on their fall/winter menu. Delectable! For the main courses, I chose the chicken peanut satay, which I opted to have cooked a little on the well side in order to have the sauce caramelize a bit. My boyfriend had the meatloaf, and we were both impressed by the quality of our meals. We knew that, as a tapas restaurant, the serving sizes would be more on the "nosh" side of quantity, but it was still more than we expected and neither of us went hungry! For dessert, we shared the Guinness chocolate toffee cheesecake, which was one of the richest cheesecakes I've had in a while. There is a good selection of draft beers -- some of which are from local craft breweries -- as well as an impressive list of bottled libations. I didn't look at the wine list that was available, but the list of specialty martinis and mixed drinks was enticing enough for us to return soon for a nightcap. I definitely see us returning for another date night.

So glad I was finally able to check this place out before I moved! Streats definitley has that cool factor; exposed ductwork, industrial pendant lights, artsy feel. It looks like it was an old garage and they can open it up, which would be nice in the summer. From reading some yelp reviews, a couple reviews insinuated it was kid-friendly, despite not having a kids menu. We showed up on Sunday evening with a 9 month old and 3 year old and definitley felt out of place. The server said they had 2 highchairs so fortunately there were no other families in the place so we could take 1 of 2. The menu is a bunch of eclectic small plates, from varying cultures. I asked right away if the chef could cook something up kid-friendly (mac & cheese, grilled cheese, scrambled eggs, something) and the waitress was awkward about it and had to keep coming back and forth and finally settled on saying the chef can NOT cook up something kid friendly. Really, don't have any bread, cheese, or butter in the back? Thanks. So I ordered an $11 platter of fish and chips for my 3 year old, which she eventually did pick at and eat but I'm pretty turned off that the chef wouldn't even attempt to accommodate. I've been to a couple nice restaurants that have totally cooked something up simple, easy, and cheap for my daughter when we take her out (specifically, Vintage Tavern and One Fish Two Fish) and there has been absolutely no problem. So I'm changing it to a NON kid-friendly status. Other things we ordered: -Vietnamese rice noodle bowl: underwhelming and it certainly does not "rock", as previous user posted. I think we could have passed on this item, as it really did not justify the $6 pricetag. -Tostones: cooked well but lacked flavor; however, the sauce it was served in was amazing. -Chicaronnes: just pork rinds, as previous poster said. That is all. -Beef bugolgi lettuce wraps: these were tasty, kimchi fresh. -Meatloaf sliders: Oddly, these are served cold but the server gave me the option to have them heated up so I did that and they were pretty great. Nice smoky flavor. Apparently the chef used to be a bartender? The cocktail list was large but for some reason just did not appeal to me. There was one that piqued my interest that had watermelon in it but when I asked specifically (like watermelon JUICE?) she said it was puckers. BLEH! I hate puckers. Are legit bartenders still using puckers? No thanks. So I stuck to their wine list, which was small but decent. I actually wanted to try something on draft but the waitress, again, lacked knowledge about a couple of the beers (on draft!) and had to keep going back and asking about it. She should probably know the difference between a pale ale and a Belgian wheat. I guess my overall feeling is that while we certainly enjoyed the food here, I think the service has a little of that smug, sniffy vibe...like they can't really be bothered. Kind of like Public House. I might not have cared 10 years ago, but today I'm a little more cognizant of stuff like that, especially when I'm dropping $80 on a Sunday night. I teetered on whether to put this place in my Top Restaurants list but really can't get past the indifferent service. Perhaps a cool spot to revisit sans kids.

This place was AMAZING. The food is flavorful and delicious. They have different types of dishes that would satisfy any food craving. The plates are "small plates" which are a little big bigger than tapas but not as much as your normal entree. My roommate and I each had a beer, split an appetizer and three of their "noshes" (small plates) and spent only $42! To us that is a STEAL. Our server Neil was very accommodating and was very knowledgable and helping when it came to the menu. For an appetizer we had the pimento cheese spread which I HIGHLY recommend. It comes with a generous serving of cheese spread and slices of this delicious grilled herb crusted bread. Our small plates were the bulgogi lettuce wraps with HOMEMADE KIMCHI, fish tacos and a special for the night which was creamy Mac and cheese with pork crispies (or pork rinds). The service was fast so you won't be there for long. Small welcoming environment. Definitely not my last time visiting !!

About 10 years ago, when it was located on 21st street, I was a regular at Crackers. Sadly, Crackers moved away further than I'm willing to drive. This is why I was so excited to see a new restaurant coming to life on 21st street about a block from the former Crackers' location. Last night, my wife and I finally got to try Streats. The menu is heavily focused on "streat food" (hence the name). Prices range from $4 - $11 for the food and most items are meant to be shared. In addition to a great selection of beers, the back of the menu also features about 25-30 hand crafted cocktails. A small but efficient wine list is also available. We tried the Thai Beef Lettuce Wraps, Egg Drop Soup, Duck Confit Soba Noodles, Kim Chi Hot Dog, and Dukkah. All of which were enjoyed and served efficiently by our server Christine. Service was great, the atomosphere was trendy and welcoming. Highly recommended by me to anyone looking for something new and unique. We will be back!

Another great meal at Streats. I had the stuffed mushrooms, clam chowder (perhaps more of a soup but so yummy) and apple pie with ice cream. All fresh tasting and well seasoned. Prompt friendly service. Nice atmosphere. I'm picky about wine and the riesling was delicious. We love this place and will be back again soon.

I have been going to Streats since the opening week and I have to say that it is a great addition to Norfolk. The food is amazing, especially the Brussels sprouts. I highly recommend them and have them almost every time I go. The wait staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, not only about the delicious food but also about the wine selection and craft beers they have to offer. A full liquor bar is also a plus! Another thing I really like about the place is the garage door. When the weather is nice, having it up, really opens the place up! Thank you Neil for making Ghent that much better!!

Just left and had a general feeling of underwhelm. Clearly people like this restaurant as I based my decision to eat here on the 4 and 5 star ratings. Loved the feel and service was prompt. 5 stars for that! I ordered a mojito. As a former bartender, the proportions were all off- similar to cough syrup. Tostones were next up. Garlic sauce was awesome. I think the chips were cut a little too thick. The amount of sauce needed to counter the starch was more than was provided. Next, vegetable potstickers. Again, flavorless dumpling with an almost chalky wrap. Too dependent on the sauce. Upon arrival, I had lofty ideas about the wonderful and dynamic meal we'd have. I wanted to have the bulgogi wraps and kimchi (homeland comfort food) and the BBQ chicken sliders. I couldn't bring myself to spend money on something else given the fact that the tostones and potstickers I seriously could've made better myself. I think the concept is awesome and fills a niche in this area. Please take this as gentle constructive criticism. I read your responses to lower ratings saying that "well, plenty like it and we know we can't please everyone." On one hand yes, that's true and a healthy mindset. I think that to discount people's opinion is dangerous. No one is above criticism. These are people that can help your business thrive and surpass your expectations. Don't limit yourself by being unwilling to take an objective look at what's going on. Upon reading the owner's comment, I agree that I should've spoken up.

I've personally been waiting for a place like Streats. I find it hard to eat at certain restaurants; some places are just for drinking. At other places, I find it hard to drink - they are primarily for eating. Last, it's hard to find a place that has an atmosphere that's conducive to just having a good time with a group of friends. I personally think Streats is a great place to grab a bite to eat, have a cocktail or draft, and have a good time with a group of your favorite friends. It's small, so don't get to rowdy! Streats is the closest thing to a Japanese izakaya that I've seen in HR. Granted the food is not izakaya-esque, the combination of food, drink, layout, and atmosphere are very reminiscence of what I love about the Japanese izakaya scene. That's the main reason I love Streats; I miss izakaya eating. On the night I was there, a group of friends and myself had already had dinner and was looking for a place to have a drink and wind down. We were not particularly hungry, so a drink or two and a bite to eat fit the bill. We somehow ended up at Streats. First impressions are everything and my first impressions was, "I love this place already." We started with a few of the house cocktails and some of the beers on draft. I'm a beer drinker primarily and although Streats doesn't have a huge selection, it's fine. They serve a few from O'Connor's; can't go wrong there. They didn't have Great Dismal, though, so I went for the Legend Brown Ale. We went for two dishes - the pimento cheese with the toast rounds and the chicharonnes. Both were excellent. The pimento cheese was smooth without all the bad grated cheese that comes from using pre-shredded cheese coated in flour or cornstarch. A good dish deserves hand grated cheese without the anti-caking dust. The pork rind were fresh; they came to the table still warm with a lemon/hot-sauce concoction. The sauce was shot worthy. Good eats! One member of the group went for the 'Hokey Pokey' - flavored ice cream topped with honeycomb toffee. Apparently, it's an Aussie thing. We all had a bite and it was delicious! Imagine an aerated toffee crackled over ice cream. Streats is a great place, in my opinion, to have a nightcap. I can't wait to return.

Have been here a few times since it opened and have never been disappointed. So far have only tried most of the small plates. The pimento cheese was definitely a standout. The speciality drinks are all creative and delicious. Our bartender Matty definitely gives the place personality :) To top it off, I love the hokey pokey ice cream. My mom is from New Zealand, and it's as true to real hokey pokey as I've ever had in the States (you rarely see it here!). Definitely worth stopping by for drinks and snacks if you're in Ghent!

Despite being on a 10-day cleanse I managed to have another fantastic meal! I'm always pleased with the special options and tonights was a winner. The Indian chicken satay had an amazing peanut sauce I wanted to smoother everything in but alas my cleanse only permitted a dash and a sigh and I had to pass the sauce on to my spouse. I will so be back for that! The bon Vietnamese rice noodle salad rocked as it always does. My favorite go to item everytime. I had to pass today but if you all want a stout you can both locals here. O'Connors kickin' Dry Irish and Smartmouths Cowcatcher Milk.

Grand opening was just this Tuesday, so they have room to grow! Luckily, they've got a good start. Streats has a great environment. It's small and dark (seats about 40 people or so), but it was comfortable. They had a great cocktail list and some decent beers (I wish there were more). Streats had primarily asian fusion foods. Everybody I was with enjoyed their food and the only complaint that came up was that there wasn't enough. The meals were tapas portioned, so getting a couple entrees might be smart. We got dessert too. The tres leches cake was super soft and perfectly moist. There were toffee bites with the very soft and creamy vanilla ice cream. I'll be coming back on Friday, and I'll give an update then, but for now it's a solid restaurant and it's open until 2AM!

I like the concept of Streats and the fusion of Asian and American cuisines, but I don't see myself coming back for the food. I wasn't really impressed by the lechon carne asado bowl and kimchi hot dog. The hot dog was a little too salty and the asado bowl needs a bit more flavor. I definitely would come back for the drinks especially since they close at 2am. I see this place being successful as a bar/hang out spot, but the menu just needs a little more improvement. There are better tapas restaurants in the area. The best part about Streats was their service. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive.

I absolutely loved this place! The scenery was quite pleasant and we were seated right by a screen window to enjoy the breeze. This place is great for the people who search for vegetarian and vegan options. We had pork belly and chorizo tacos and omg it was tasty!!!! This is the perfect place for a late night-after a movie-date. Or for any culinarian looking for food late at night. Fresh food, ice cold drinks, and awesome music! Love it here!

I've been waiting for an opportunity to give Streats a try since they opened. My first experience there was this past Friday and I am really glad I came. Aesthetically, this place is pretty cool. There is some great local artwork hanging on the walls and just enough ambient light to clearly see your food but not enough to ruin my night vision. The service was quick and friendly. The beer selection was better than I expected. The food selection was diverse and eclectic. I was thoroughly impressed. We started with Chicharonnes and while I was fine with them, my girlfriend was surprised when pork rinds came out. Central American Hispanics expect a meaty/fatty pig skin vs the Americanized version, which is more like a pig skin crisp. I was fine with them. The sauce that they gave with them was perfect. For an entree, I ordered fish tacos. They were really good and the portion size was perfect for a night involving drinking. My girlfriend ordered something with duck in it. I had a bite and it was really good, too. Overall a really nice experience. I'm looking forward to trying it a couple more times so I can give it the full 5 star review.

Streats is my new favorite place. Located in a beautiful corridor of Ghent. Streats is nestled on 21st and Colley Ave. This area of Norfolk will soon explode. Neil & Rich and their wait staff always remember my name, and pay special attention to my wife's vegetarian needs. I have taken my parents and brother to dinner here. They loved the "nosh" ; and we often get 2-4 meals! The prices are excellent. The service is quick. The wait staff is approachable. The eatery is clean, trendy, and will be my spot this spring and summer. Love, Love Love the smaller portions, and creative spices. Pork Belly Tacos, and Australian French Fries are fun. Lots of micro brews, and a fun chalk board with all the specials!

My wife and I have been going to Crackers ever since we moved to Norfolk a year ago. We learned that the Chef and one of the waiters/managers left to start Streats. So we gave it a try last night, and it was amazing!!!! Ever since he left Crackers we could tell the food started lacking in quality, so it was nice to have his food again. Also his new creations are on-point. Being from SoCal I love fish tacos, and it's been hard finding anything comparable in Norfolk. However, the fish tacos I had last night tasted great and just like they were from SoCal. Staff was nice and food came out really fast. Atmosphere and music was great as well. We will definitely be coming here from now on. If you've eaten at Crackers in the past and loved the food, come here because the Chef is at Streats now.

We pass Streats by car often and last night decided to give it a try with our son and daughter in law. We arrived a little after six PM on a Saturday and were immediately seated. Soon after, the restaurant was nearly full of customers. The theme is Asian-American small plates. The menu is divided into soups, salads, appetizers, and noshes (entrees). Since the plates are small, a starter and entrée is recommended. Our starters were veggie pot stickers, the pimento cheese, arugula and beet salad and the. pork rinds. All were tasty and freshly prepared. The entrees were the fish tacos, General Tso Chicken and chorizo tacos. All were excellent, although our son declared the General Tso chicken not too much different from a good Chinese take out. If you like the taste kicked up a notch, try some Siracha sauce, especially on the fish taco. When my wife complimented our waiter on the fish tacos, he noted they were made with Mahi Mahi and not the usual Tilapia. He also noted that the fish and chips was made with fresh Cod as is traditionally used in England. Desert was a shared lava chocolate cupcake with blue cheese frosting (yummy and innovative but not for everyone's taste so ask for the cheese topping on the side )and Indian style rice pudding, something like ras malai with rice and fruit. Also very tasty. The wine and beer list offers lots of choices, with many specialty mixed drinks, which we did not sample. Our sever was knowledgeable, pleasant and quick. The place is small with a "bistroish" décor. It fills up on weekends and can be a bit noisy, but the atmosphere is convivial. People were clearly enjoying themselves at this newish Ghent eatery. If they keep up the quality and service, I predict success. We'll be back.

Enjoyed the decor, service, and the vibe. Prices are reasonable but the food just did not pop. Nice addition to the neighnorhood. All the elements are there but if that want to rise above food mediocrity in Ghent they must step up their game.

The drinks were good but the food was a miss. The appetizers were ok. I had the lamb kebab and it was burned. My girlfriends food was unimpressive as well it advertised vegetables but lacked them. The concept was a new take on street food but it just wasn't that good. Would love to see this executed better because it's a great idea. Service was really good.

At my father's request, I'm reviewing this place and giving it 5 stars. Probably deserves 4.5 stars but the service was great so I rounded up this time. I really hope that this place makes it in Norfolk - and wish we had places like this in Annapolis. We ordered the lettuce wraps, noodle salad, pork belly mac-n-cheese (a special), duck confit, green salad and the hokey pokey ice cream for dessert. I'm not a huge duck person, but Dad loved it. The lettuce wraps were delicious and not overdone on the spices which a lot of places tend to do. My only suggestion on the noodle salad would be to lighten up on the peanuts, but that's minor and seems rather critical. The mac-n-cheese was delicious and not too heavy. We all agreed that the ice cream didn't wow us. Mom was excited about the idea of honeycomb so we ordered it. I'll be really excited when (not if...) they grow the sweets menu. Like all good Norfolk places, they had O'Connor beers on draft and Dad had the stout. The bartender was also kind enough to entertain his questions about the bar set-up and different drink options - so a plus there. Everything about this place was great. And usually you can't say that in week 3 of a new place. These guys know what's up and they get it. The decor, the service, the food, the location - all excellent. It's great to see new places in the part of town on 21st street. We are already planning our next visit!

Nice cozy place with a good atmosphere. I like the energy of the servers; they were happy to make me a drink I ordered off the menu and it tasted delicious. Also ordered a streats fizz and that was amazing as well. Now for the food my wife ordered the sliders and I ordered the duck. My wife's food came out burnt, even the fries and the bun of the sliders were burnt and the coleslaw that came with the meal was atrocious, I couldnt even eat it. The duck was alright, nothing wrong with it but nothing too great about it either to be spending so much. I won't come back for the food if I do come back it may be for the drinks since it is walking distance to my place and open till 2 am. I just wish the food was better to justify going here as a regular spot.

Looking from the outside, Streats seems like a breath of fresh air to Ghent's dining scene. However, after dining in, I was using that same breath to relieve a sigh of disappointment. My beau and I walked in and were greeted by a nice host who promptly sat us in their very intimate 8 table dining room. Mind you, this was at 7 o'clock on a Saturday night, luckily no reservation was needed. After a few minutes, our waiter arrived to our table and explained their menu concept, which served more as a disclaimer regarding their portions. "Our portions aren't quite as small as tapas, but they're not full sized either." I'm not sure how I was supposed to gauge his statement because he didn't explain much beyond that. I'm familiar with tapas dining, but his explanation was vague. He immediately proceeded to point out their beer and cocktail list, which was decently priced. I got a Legend Brown draft for $3 and my S/O had a Brooklyn Summer Ale for $4.50 so that deserves at least half a star. The other half is attributed to the Dukkah appetizer which consisted of tandoori naan with a sesame seed/coriander like spread and side of olive oil. Onto the meals, we both ordered two entrees considering the waiter's statement about their portions. I'll speak for myself and just mention my meals. I had the fish & chips and a bowl of their pepper-jack mac n cheese. The fish & chips were very bland. I understand you can't expect much out of a fried meal, but the quality compared to Captain D's. What hit home was when the plate hit the table, and what followed was malt vinegar PACKETS. I asked for a few lemon wedges because they were missing from the plate. Our waiter returned with a shot glass of cocktail sliced lemons. Onto the next, the pepper-jack mac n cheese was also bland. The pasta was over-cooked and the cheese held no thickness, which led to a soupy consistency. That is not something I look forward to when ordering mac n cheese. Blending with my entrees, our server was pretty bland himself. The service was nothing exceptional. Before we even entered the restaurant,we had already committed to getting something for someone who couldn't join us at the restaurant. We determined that the lamb kebab couldn't be a bad choice. It was. It was just as plain as the aforementioned entrees. What filled that small to-go box was pathetic. Three cubes of lamb with a dusting of lettuce and a white sauce. I didn't eat it so I can only speculate that it was a tzatziki sauce or a yogurt sauce, maybe even sour cream. Either way, I felt pretty ashamed giving it to them to be completely honest. Even after vicariously giving Streats a second chance through a third party, I've determined that I won't be back. Simply not worth it.

Went to streats last night. Food was good. The hatteras chowder was the best thing we had. Tasty. I guess the ultimate question is, "would I go back?" Sure. If I was making my way around town drinking and wanted a bite at the bar I'd order. Meaning.....Their bigger than tapas but not a huge meal portion is great for a night out. Comfortable environment, appropriately priced and tasty food. and again, the soup was DELICIOUS!

I have been back numerous times since my review, and I am pleased to say that it has gotten even better. The daily specials are always a pleasant surprise, and the service is as pleasant as can be. The bar serves up an array of tantalizing cocktails, mixed by expert bartenders, as well as a great selection of craft and local beer at more than reasonable prices. I really love this place. The cool selection of music is always excellent as well. Get thee to Streats!

My family enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Streats. While there is no kids menu, Streats is certainly family friendly, and my 1 year old ate right off the menu with us, and enjoyed every bite. We started with the lettuce wraps and crab hushpuppies, and ordered the plantains for our son. The hushpuppies were delightful - my favorite part of the meal. Perfectly cooked in a tasty remoulade sauce. The lettuce wraps had the most tender beef that were gently seasoned. It was really good, and after my son went to town on the plantains, he enjoyed some of the beef too! We then decided to nosh on the fish tacos and the chicken vindaloo. Both were excellent. Unfortunately we had no room left to sample the dessert menu since we were full from dinner. The staff were very friendly and offered great suggestions from the menu. There are several other menu items I would love to try. The three of us will definitely be back.

From the moment you walk through the door, you are in for a treat. Everything I have eaten at Streats has been nothing short of delicious. My table of four ordered the chicharones, tea eggs, Thai beef lettuce wraps, hush puppies and Dukka. It was tough to choose a favorite. A small and select wine list tempted us to order two bottles. We also ordered, as main courses, the ceasar which has a surprising smokey blue cheese, the Bahn metloaf, confit duck, CID the chicken vindaloo. And to be further gluttons, we ordered desserts! The tres leches is wonderful. The food at Streats encourages you to fill your tummy beyond capacity. The service is friendly and the people working are as eager to share their menu favorites as they are to find out yours. Also, they seem genuinely happy to be there. A rarity in the industry these days. Happy servers is a credit to the owners. Streats brings to mind what Crackers used to be when they were in Ghent. I can see this place becoming a very fast favorite!
