I am giving this place 5 stars, not because of the quality of the food (although it was very good), because it is a CAFETERIA, not a fine dining establishment. However, we were looking for a place near the Norfolk Airport and this place was about 3 mi NE of the airport. + Cafeteria, so no wait to order or be served, good for convenience and to relax for one last meal before going to airport + Then we wanted someplace with a good variety of food + The servers and waiters were very friendly + The food was inexpensive. A kids meal of popcorn shrimp, mashed potatoes and gravy, dinner roll, and cookie for $3.99. + The crab cakes were surprisingly very tasty. After going crabbing on the Outer banks and eating some soft shell crab out there, wow, I really liked these crab cakes. And they were good size and only $2.25 each??!! (see my picture) ++ I ate the 8 oz chop steak for $4 + SO many +s and no negatives = 5 stars

I absolutely love this place! Sometimes, though I am a little ashamed to admit it, I have been here for lunch 5 days straight! I've also come here with my entire family on Easter, thanksday and Christmas. The variety and food quality and cafeteria style is what keeps me coming back. I have tried and loved their Toni salad, fried fish, fried shrimp, fried chicken [omg it's soooooo yummy] BBQ chicken, baked chicken, chicken and dumpling, chicken Francisco, chopped steak, baked spaghetti, new potatoes, potatoes O'Brian, cabbage, greens, sweet potato casserole and on and on! I will say this. 9/10 times your bread will be cold. ... so skip it. Also, though the macaroni and cheese looks very, very tempting - SKIP IT IT IS NOT GOOD!!! I have had the fried mac and cheese and it was pretty good. The only problem I have if ever is with some of the staff behind the counter that plates and serves the food. ... it's no secret that a few have a consistent attitude, no matter what day it is, but it's not enough to make me stop coming back again and again! Miss Teri who waits tables in the dining room is THE BEST!

Simple nothing fancy. . Food is a little on the bland side since they seem to cater to seniors. . Walk down the line , pick from a verity of food's. .salads- entrees-desserts. . Prices are great! Portions are good! You get table service for drink re-fills only anything else u get yourself. s Good cleaning wouldn't hurt. . They do offer take out

Been here a few times for work functions since I work on NOB. They have ample parking out front, the location is new and clean. They always have tons of options and the employees are very friendly. I like how you go down the line and select whatever items you'd like. They have a menu at the front of the line so you can see what is offered that day and have a general idea of what you'd like before you start passing all the food, otherwise you might get something at the beginning and see something else you want later on down the line so it's a good idea to browse the menu posted first I think. When you get the food you choose your table and they have staff who refill your drinks or bring you items you might want or need like hot sauce or steak knives. You pay just before you leave which I always manage to forget and try to pay the ladies at the food line. I've never had a bad experience here. Last time I got a green been casserole type dish and it was absolutely delicious. Mmmmm! I'm sure I'll continue to come for large work gatherings.

Great cafeteria food! I used to come here a lot in the late 90's, early 2000's, but haven't been in years. The quality has not declined at all! Clean, friendly staff and decent variety at a great price. Being a cafeteria, it's super fast, another bonus. This area has so few restaurant choices, it's good to see K&W is still a good option. The only complaint? With all those choices, sometimes your eyes are bigger than your stomach!!

I've had many a trips to the establishment over the years, and I can say that it's a nice cheap place to get lunch, everything here is priced individually, so of you plan your meal out you can have an entire meal consisting of an entrée, side dish, drink, and dessert for under $10. A good thing to note about this place is that the food is always fresh; never have I ever gotten anything from here that's tasted like its been sitting out all day. This restaurant advertises that all it's food is made from scratch, which isn't a big deal to me, but I know there are people out there that really appreciate that. Admittedly this won't be the very best food you've ever had in your life, but I promise you that you won't be disappointed. The options on what they serve here changes daily, but some things are available every day. My suggestions for entrees are the baked spaghetti, the fried fish with tarter sauce, or the grilled chicken with onions. The cheese broccoli is a good side dish, the Mexican cornbread and garlic bread is also good as well. For dessert, I would say get a piece of either the coconut cream pie or the chocolate chess pie. The service here is always pretty good, after you grab your food and take a seat there's always a friendly waiter or waitress who will refill your drink and/or bring you anything that you need like extra napkins, condiments, or even something else from the cafeteria line of you decide you want more (just be prepared to pay for it lol). Another thing I like about this place is that it is never too crowded or too loud. I'd say give this place a try if want to enjoy a nice home cooked meal prepared quickly.

Ok well sooooo... This is the kind of place that the Klumps would come to. The whole time I was here I had the urge to clap my hands and chant "Hercules! Hercules!". But I held it together. Of course its not 5 star but it veers to the 3.5 side think hospital cafeteria. Its inexpensive , hot, the whiting was good and crispy, and the staff at the tables were courteous. There is really not much needed. My banana cream pie wasn't cold but eh whatayagonnado. Also I'm being generous with the 4 stars cause the macaroni and cheese was like it was made by your and not that doesn't really know her way around the kitchen. It was just aight .

For a cafeteria, it's not a bad place at all. A fair amount of variety, in a very 50's All-American kind of way. The food is served at the right temperature, meat is juicy and sliced when you order it, etc. Where this place really shines (and the reason I give them four stars) is the efficiency of service...exactly what you want in a cafeteria. The place runs like clockwork. Don't be discouraged by the long line...you'll get through quickly. It's unlikely that any of the food will be inspiring, but I doubt any of it sucks, either. They have a huge customer base of senior citizens who start filling the place up well before noon.

K&W's are few and far between folks! Get to one now and become a fan like me! My friend and I were on the hunt for Peebles and found one on Our Side Of The Tunnel, something very important to us. But Peebles became 2nd when we saw K&W! We have now been to K&W twice and Peebles only once. The first time we went, I got to the table and looked at my tray. I had a yellow dinner! Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, spoon bread and custard pie. It may not have been balanced but it sure was good! The second time we went, I got large chop steak, two servings of mashed potatoes and gravy, and spoon bread. Still not balanced but still very good! On our last visit, there were a group of ladies ahead of us who were apparently confused over how K&W operates. How hard is this? Get a tray and silverware, choose a meat, two sides, a drink and maybe bread, a salad and dessert. It's several steps up from a school cafeteria but really not that different ladies! And then they got argumentative with the cashier and the manager, slowing us down. Sigh! If you have never had spoon bread, that is reason enough to go. And they do let you say spoon bread is bread when you do the combo meal thing. BRING BACK K&W! Who doesn't love choosing exactly what they want? I took my grandson when he was about to go to kindergarten to get him used to the idea of his future cafeteria. He and his little sister LOVED IT!

I don't believe I'd ever been to a cafeteria style restaurant before & K&W did not disappoint. Their food always seems so well prepared & healthy. Service & waitstaff is always friendly & helpful... no matter what time of the day everyone always has a smile on their face. You go down the line & pick & choose which salads, entrees, sides, desserts you may want. The boyfriend's eyes usually get very hungry & end up with an overflowing tray but everything is very good & incredibly reasonably priced. The only thing I don't enjoy is the Mac & Cheez because it seems to have a sour cream base or something... but either dine in or take out I've never been disappointed with K&W.

My parents eat at K&W 5 days a week. ( M--F) They would eat there 7 days but they normally eat at my sisters house on the weekend. They love the food and the convenience of a cafe. I suggest if you are looking to buy someone a gift do what I did for my parents buy the a gift certificate. To the folks who run this business thank you for being so nice to my senior parents. God Bless you.

This cafeteria is almost like Piccadilly's or Luby's, but with the better quality food. It is usually filled with the old folks including my grandma. I used to go there all the time with my grandma and my great uncle, because they were too old to cook anymore. The foods and the desserts were really good. I always ordered (and always will) the fish, the yams (with the marshmallows), the rolls, the green beans, and the cherry pie, because I always became a happy woman after eating the delicious foods. lol. Any con? The foods are priced INDIVIDUALLY, not a whole meal, and it is kinda stupid, but oh well. The prices are usually expensive, so expect to shell out about $10 - $15 for a delicious meal at this place.

Back in the day, cafeterias were big. I can remember going there almost every Sunday after church when I was young. My parents loved it and it was a chance for us kiddies to show off our table manners - napkins on the lap, proper knife/fork skills, and no elbows on the table. Fast forward a number of years and I was back; not at Morrison's or Piccadilly, but at K&W. I had almost forgotten how good the food was. In the past many months, I've been to K&W more than 4 times. The last time I was there, this establishment was in the location of the Teriyaki Grill; so, I hadn't been in a long while. Southern Shopping Center has been completely remodeled. My recent favorite meal was the Hoki fillet - a nicely brown fish fillet with a side of tartar sauce and cole slaw; it was just as I remember it - crispy and moist. My recent favorite side is a tie - steamed cabbage and mac and cheese. I remember K&W having great mac and cheese. The cabbage, however, reminding me of good ol' mom's. My favorite nostalgic dish had to be the spoonbread. It's best described as a cornbread souffle. I like mine with a pat or two of butter and a grind of fresh pepper. Good eatin'. I have to report on the bad as well. I recent had the Manhattan Meatloaf. It looked appetizing - smothered in loose tomato sauce with onions and peppers. When I got it back to the table and took a few bites, I wasn't happy. First, it was burned. Imagine a baguette hollowed out and stuffed with grandma's meatloaf, cooked, then sliced into rings. The baguette was burned and the meatloaf couldn't be saved - it had to go back! Overall the food is good ol' home cooking, it's a meat and veg sort of place, and it's Sunday dinner everyday. Not surprisingly, most of the patrons are older. Younger people still haven't discovered the cafeteria concept yet; they may prefer Mickey D's and Subway for lunch. You'd be surprised to get an entree with two vegetable and a roll for about the same price as a Big Mac combo. It's healthier to boot. I'm writing this review to introduce to some and re-introduce to others a delicious and economical alternative to the fast food lunch. Visit K&W instead. To borrow a tune from James Morrison, K&W might say, "I'm not lost, just undiscovered".

I love, love, love this place. The food is quality country style southern food and I make sure to visit at least once every time I visit Norfolk. K&W features a large number of items, but you will move through the cafeteria line quite quickly. I am a particular fan of their fried chicken. I also enjoy the unintentional retro feel of the place. Eating at K&W feels like going back in time, but without any kitschy appeal to cheezy nostalgia. For some reason, eating here reminds me of visiting my grandmother. Of course, they serve real sweet tea and offer table service for frequent refills. Bottom line: K&W offers quality food at decent prices. Cafeteria dining is an experience that everyone should enjoy at least once.

Eaten lunch here every Sunday since it opened in the former Miller and Rhodes building. LOVED thier chocolate pie! When my employer, NADEP closed in 1996, I moved to Seattle. There are no cafeteria style restaurants here save for Old Country Buffet. Funny thing, I still dream about K & W and Norfolk from time to time. It's the best place in Norfolk!.
