I come here on Thursdays with a local moms group. The staff is always welcoming, the bathrooms are clean and the service is efficient. I really like their house iced tea (black currant) and their baked good selection is always unique and delicious. I've never tried anything else off of their menu, but I keep meaning to come by for breakfast or lunch with my husband. The menus are really fun and use creative ingredients.

Quaint little coffeehouse/cafe in downtown Norfolk. I met up with a few friends for lunch on Tuesday to catch up. As you walk in you notice all the local art and chalk art they have all over. I sat down, then realized I had to walk up to the bar to order. After looking over the menu, which has everything from cheese plates, to salads to sandwiches, I went with the pig and pear. It's a sandwich with ham, pear, cheese, arugala and mustard. I do have to say, we waited a bit for our food, but I'm sure it was because 5 of us walked in and the kitchen doesn't seem to be too big. Needless to say, it was a great sandwich, very filling and I ended up going with their homemade peach tea. Overall, a cute spot to come to if you're in the area, wanna grab a bite to eat, or sit and study. I think next time I go, I"ll try their coffee. They had quite and extensive coffee menu.

Another very "Hipster" spot in Norfolk! Cure Coffee House & Brasserie - not the worst, but not the best coffee I've ever had. I've been twice so far, once I tried a hot latte, and second time recently - an iced version of their many latte flavors, Crazelnut to be specific. They do have many flavors to choose from such as: JOY - dark chocolate & almond MINT CONDITION - vanilla & peppermint SUGAR COOKIE - vanilla & almond CRAZELNUT - caramel & hazelnut There are about ten or eleven more types. I really love my coffee and lattes light, these were a bit too light, even for me. The decor here is very modern; very industrial, but also mixed. There's metal, there's wood, there are some lifesavers on the wall if you look up, while ordering your coffee. I'm not opposed to coming here again, though. I will try something else, and maybe even their food. Cure is ok!

I see the appeal of Cure. Its hip and cool and there is a pretty legit menu. Its in a cute part of town and the people watching is fantastic, although, they are lacking in the product department. I was generally unimpressed with both of the coffees I tried, Churro & Lavender Mocha and to be honest, there wasn't much of a difference. It just tasted like, coffee. They also take an unreasonably long time to get food on your table which is irritating since its a small place. This isn't to say I wont go back, I never said the coffee was bad, it just needs more of whatever they are trying to say it tastes like.

Wow. Didn't know all that happened on this little strip on Botetourt St. I drive by it quite frequently but finally ventured nearby on foot while attending a networking event at the Freemason Inn this morning. After the event, a colleague and I walked over on our way to our cars and decided to stop in for a quick drink. I went with something new today, the Mexi Mocha. It's dark chocolate with a hint of cayenne pepper. While I found this to be a novel idea, I didn't quite get a delicious feeling out of this drink. Perhaps it was the almond milk (although I drink it often). Perhaps it was because I didn't get four shots of espresso. I'm going to need more fat kid in my life again. The heat though was a nice touch. I actually dig this neighborhood and I like what this location has to offer. Of course, I'll be back. The atmosphere of this coffee shop is great and I hope to be stuck there with many hours to spare with a laptop and headphones people watching.

Great place for coffee, drinks and small plates. Lots of local products here from craft beer to artwork to coffee. Excellent small business in Norfolk!

I loved you, Cure. But, you did once give me a sandwich that was sub-par. It was, in fact, quite bland. And that's a shame because you really made me wait quite awhile to get it. If you were just a coffeehouse that happened to offer food, it wouldn't matter. But, your name tells me that you hold yourself to a higher standard. I believe in you. So I'm holding you to you own standard, as well. That being said, your latte was delicious and I dig your vibe. You're clean and bright, but also lounge-like. And, your staff was really friendly. Plus, you have some items that I'd still like to try (mimosa & pastrami immediately come to mind). So, although I haven't been in a huge rush, I'll be back. Hey, there's a special place in my heart & mouth for you. I want to upgrade your star rating, desperately. I, honestly, do recommend you to others for lounging and lattes. So, you know, please don't disappoint the next time I sample your other wares.

My quest continues to try local coffee shops. Cure is one of the shops I had yet to try and had wanted to for a while. So, why not invite a Yelper friend who is a regular at the joint to provide a little lay of the land too! Rosalind and I enjoyed a mocha and conversation about yelp business, boring to most I know. For those that have never been, this area it's in a high rent district. I do not think it's Ghent, but could be corrected. The turn on Botetourt St. is at a light and you cross the light rail tracks and will see the old warehouse building that houses Viola on the corner. There is obvious wealth all around as evidenced by gorgeous turn of the century mansions. The roads are a quaint cobblestone and parking is off the street and limited to one hour. I am pretty sure parking is not legal at the small lot on the corner, it's for the corner shop. The great news is you do not have to drive far on the road, cobblestone require you creep at about 10 mph, or risk taking your car for an alignment. The brick building is a real beauty, possibly constructed in the 40's. Barrel tile over hang in the front, huge clear windows at the bottom provide excellent light and visibility. Large frosted windows at the top that opened at one time and assume they are sealed off now. The building was broken up for different tenants at some time. Cure does not occupy a lot of space, but it works perfect for a coffee shop. I walked in and looked around and felt a little disappointed due to the building being historic. Cure has done something modern with a recent renovation which doesn't work for me. The wall are close to bare, what's up with that. I really loved that they have concrete in keeping with a warehouse theme. Painted walls were a pleasing color. But the seating motif was under whelming and boring. There was nothing about the dining area that was interesting other than the table in front of the window. Worse is the stained white popcorn ceiling. A real opportunity with a recent remodel could have blown this out and exposed the ceiling. I moved over to the counter to check out what food and drink items they had. I surveyed the Mocha board and quickly settled on a Cream Brulee. I discussed options with breakfast sandwiches and my Barista Michelle. She recommended a steak & egg sandwich which sounded great and I said go for it. Her service was above expectations the entire time and made the visit. I learned that they do get items from Bliss Bakery and Chelsea Bakery. Rosalind and I moved to the best seat in the house one of two in front of the window and sipped on our delicious mocha's. Michelle had created a stunningly beautiful mocha. Only thing I will be critical about is temperature which was too cool for my taste. Our food came out very quickly and was brought to the table by Michelle with extra napkins and silverware. She was terrific and got us water too.\ My sandwich was visually awesome looking, but tasted just good, not great. Served on a bagel that was tough did not help. The egg was so, so and the coffee infused steak was pretty good. The side of tiny potatoes did nothing for me other than looking interesting. There were close to flavorless. According to Michelle you can ask for the sandwich on croissant which taste better. There are two restrooms in the back that are unisex. Before leaving I utilized the restroom and although clean they were out of soap at 10 AM, this means it was not checked at open. Paper towels were not an issue. Elite Yelper Nikko wrote in his review that he "loves all the coffee shops in Norfolk, but I love them for different reasons!" I get it and this one has it's positives and with so many shops in the area to get a caffeine fix in my opinion this is a weaker choice. Location awesome, there is almost nothing else around. Coffee choices great and tasty, my food choice weak, atmosphere needs more in my opinion. They also call themselves a Beer Garden. Beer and wine are served which sets them apart from other coffee shops. I may return, but probably in no hurry.

Great atmosphere and drinks. Not as comfy as a typical coffee shop but still very relaxing and chill! Love coming here with friends!

Three years ago, on vacation, I stopped in for a latte during a walk - an excellent brew. I couldn't remember the name of the place yesterday, but I am happy to say I found it again today. Today I did the house - made iced tea. Excellent - fruity but complex, no need for sweetener. Lunch: roasted red pepper, avacado, chevre, lettuce baguette. So refreshing. Boyfriend had the house specialty - Rueben sandwich, and a side of potato salad. The Rueben was spectacular, based on my one bite. Next time, I'll try the scone with a side of lemon curd. Free wifi. Nice people. I didn't care for the piped in 90's pop. Eve's Vertical Matchbox bands.

Small coffee shop very hipster vibe, but still a nice place to come sit. Its located in downtown norfolk off botetourt street in the ghent area. The house coffee they use is from coffee culture, it is not overwhelming or super strong. I came in and ordered two drinks the creme brulee latte hot ( had standard leaf artwork) & an iced crazelnut latte. Both were delicious!!! Next time im gonna have to get the mountain of whip and walk to the chrysler art museum which is not even a 5 minute walk from each-other. Overall the experience was pleasant, the baristas were accommodating and not coffee snobbish yay!!!! From time to time they have people perform, today we had the pleasure of hearing @fionacorrinemusic. Keep checking back for their calendar events.

I was in the area and this place caught my eye. We ordered some iced coffees from their rather large assortment. The coffee was spot on and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this little coffee shop. They also had a food menu that I didn't try but I know I will in the very near future! The place was pretty busy but it really reminded me of being back in San Diego.

Went for lunch today with 5 friends, and the food was delicious! Cool little spot to chill, have a coffee, and enjoy a tasty sandwich. Parking is easy, and the wait staff are nice. Check it out!

This part of Norfolk is a desert with not a Starbucks in sight, at least according to Yelp. So with a need for a cuppa, I headed over here. Parking is a pain to find, but you can park on the street for either one hour or two depending on the space. And until 6PM, you can park in the Viola lot at the corner of Botetourt and York. Driving on cobblestones SUCKS! Great coffee. I had a Vanilla Haze latte to start with - vanilla and hazelnut was nicely done. And when I opted to stick around for a bit longer, my second cup was a pour over that was very rich and very dark. Neat vibe going on here with lots of young folks reading, surfing (I never did figure out their wifi code), drinking Counter Culture (!!!) coffee and eating breakfast sandwiches that looked awesome. The have all sorts of other stuff too, including a handful of bottles of wine, some beer taps (BEER??) and a cooler of bottled beer too. I can see why this is such a popular hangout. Oh, and they have a Yelp check-in 10% off.

Great coffee, yummy sandwich. I'm from San Diego and not a Norfolk native by any means but I drove by this place (stalked it on Yelp a bit) and decided to pop in. I had the Creme Brulee latte and the Grilled Plum and Goat Cheese sandwich (Goat cheese, red onion jam, and Virginia plum chutney on Pain de Campagne). The coffee: The gentleman behind the counter recommended the Creme Brulee latte ($4) and he was quite correct to do so. It was not overly sweet like so many coffees are today and it had a fair kick of caffeine. I'm pretty picky with my caffeine but I would order this again in a heartbeat. The sandwich: I pretty much eat a shoe if it had enough goat cheese on it, but combine that with toasty bread and the slightly tart/spicy/sweet combination of plum chutney and red onion jam.. and magic. To quote GLADOS: "I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS" I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Norfolk.

This is my favorite coffee shop in the Hampton roads. I've tried most of their latte list and I have yet to be disappointed. I love to also come here and study! Amazing place! Thanks for the great coffee!

Color me far from impressed. While service was friendly behind the counter I had a few issues during our visit. Who takes 25 minutes to make a breakfast sandwich? They have MAYBE 10 tables in the entire place, each filled by guys and gals on laptops who didn't even look like they were paying customers. Is there a rule on how long someone can sit when it's busy if they aren't buying anything? It took a bit to wait for a table, I get irked by people just hanging out because they can when there are people who actually want to eat here as well. While I was miffed at a $3 cup of joe at first, at least it it did include refills. About 20 minutes had already passed and I was about done with my first cup which I tried nursing the whole time waiting for the grub to come out. That was when we asked why the food was taking so long and I asked about a refill on coffee. I did receive service at the table and a refill was promptly made. It was a robust blend and the cream/sugar is self service. They have somewhat of an identity crisis, are you a wine/cheese bar with beer taps or a coffee house? I'm not saying a place can't be both but the branding is confusing for an out of towner. The decor was urban chic but because of the size, the tables felt very cramped and crowded. Finally, someone utilizing a high top that had four chairs who was sitting alone just playing on her laptop finally got up and we moved to a less incommodious area to spread out a bit. The breakfast sandwich was standard, the toast a tad burnt on the outside. They also had gotten a shipment of unripened avocados that day and we weren't able to order it as one of the breakfast options. A good manager would run out and buy ripened fruit and return with it so customers wouldn't be upset about this but alas, nobody here thought of an actual solution. Nothing will ruin a visit when you're out to eat by waiting longer than the standard amount of time for an order or not have an ingredient in stock, both simply need to be fixed. We could visit again in the area as I have a friend who lives down the street and would entertain possibly going back but right now, I was left far from blown away and have experienced much better all around.

I love their atmosphere but I am not a big fan of their coffee.. most of the time it tastes sour to me! and the portion of coffee is too small compared to the price..

  • Sean P.

Came in here today for the first time and loved it! Cure has a great atmosphere that is suitable for work meetings, a casual date, or studying. The prices are pretty typical of most coffee shops in the area. Our barista misinformed us about our order and made it right by giving us an extra item at no extra cost! Moreover, they have a great coupon when you check-in!

It has really nice lattes, very friendly and good looking servers and sometimes live music. You don't want more than this from a coffee house.

Great place to have a "coffee break". Great service and very enjoyable environment. Ordered a "cortadito" and it was great. Their Toast avocado snack, with a little "picante", was a pleasant surprise. Definitely a place to come back to check what else the do great.

Love this coffee shop. The staff are super hospitable and chill. The coffee is delicious as well as a nice selection of beer. Food is good but I am definitely a fan of their dessert. Def recommend.

I've always had great experiences here. I've never ordered food, but I like to come here and just sit back and sip. My husband likes the coffee, I like the chill vibe and mimosas. Seriously, these are my favorite mimosas and at $4 it's a steal... made from fresh squeezed orange juice and champagne (no skimping) it may be small, but it's divine. I love that they sell alcohol and coffee here (among the food) It's a one stop shop for me . The only downside is that it is kind of small, going with big groups is a no-no and there's always people spending hours on laptops here (also known as seat hoggers). But doesn't it say something that these people want to spend that time here? I will continue making this my chill spot.

Super cute cafe at the edge of the Freemason district in downtown. We came in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and there was a good crowd of people there. We were able to find a table, but it wasn't empty, which is usually a good indicator of whether a cafe is a good place to hang out. My husband ordered the pastrami reuben, and I had the smoked chicken salad sandwich. We were both extremely satisfied with our choices. While I did not try the reuben, the chicken salad was more diced chicken than "salad" sauce, which is the case many times with chicken salad from a deli. The balance of chicken salad to the lettuce was perfect with the bread (which was delicious by itself, by the way). Great option for a cute lunch place in Freemason! Worth the walk from Ghent :)

  • Jessi R.

Cute is walking distance from my little apartment in downtown Norfolk, which means it's also walking distance from the Freemason stop on the metro. As a recent transplant from California, and I've been very much missing my hipster coffee shops. Ironically, Cure was exactly what I needed. I've been a handful of times for the coffee but have yet to try the food. The coffee is definitely above par (I'd recommend the Scout - dark chocolate, coconut, caramel!) and I never have to wait long for my drink. I've tried about halfp of their featured drinks and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere at Cure is very modern - chalkboard menus, cool light fixtures, etc. It's a decent place to grab a latte and hang out and I believe they even have board games for the playing. Overall, you should give it a shot. I can't vouch for the food, but the coffee is worth the trip.

ORGANIC COFFEE IN VA? Oh hells to the yeah! This place is a little gem.. perfect for a divine cup of joe, homemade desserts, and savory sandwiches. I love supporting local business owners and LOVE even more when they sell healthy foods. go. now.

I love this little coffee shop in downtown Norfolk! They have amazing coffee -- great charcuterie -- and awesome drink selection. I especially love their cowboy stew during the fall season and their moscow mules (any season). I suggest that you like them on Facebook -- you can see their specials and stay on top of their events. I was happy to see that they opened up during last winter's snow storm -- since I live relatively close, I walked a mile in snow to get a coffee and something to eat -- its that good! :) if you are visiting or living in downtown norfolk -- I suggest that you visit this store whenever! Get a yummy coffee in the AM or a late night drink! :)

Great food & coffee. The smoked chicken salad is on point. Only problem for me is they open a bit late for my morning coffee on weekdays.

  • Monica O.

The prices are high. I had the pastrami sandwich. It was good but I could have used more meat for the price. A bag of small chips is. $2.50..crazy. The atmosphere is nice though. ------------------------------------------------- I am updating my review in response to a message I received from the owner. He was professional and conveyed excellent customer service. Due to his message, I will try Cure again. His message has moved my rating from two to three stars :-)

Best BLT I have ever had! The aoli added something all BLTs are missing! My husband and I have been in several times now and have loved everything we have ordered. They have the nicest staff and are very welcoming. I also enjoy the avocado toast they have.

  • Tiffany R.

Love the ambiance and vibe of cure. Cute little coffee shop tucked away in a cute neighborhood. The lattes are amazing and the fig and Brie sandwich is delicious! Took away 1 star because seating is always scarce here and sometimes the servers/cashiers are on the unfriendly side.

  • Karen G.

Tried this for lunch. The sandwich I had, pear and pig, was good, though I wished the pear slices were thicker for more of a pear flavor. For $8, the size was pretty good, though it didn't come with anything on the side like housemade chips or something. The latte was AWESOME! They have 15 different types of lattes. Yum! The service wasn't super speedy, so it was a push to get here during a 30 min lunch.

Drug my friend out to grab lunch at this new stop. The first thing you notice about Cure when you walk in is that it has what I would classify as the 'Hipster Vibe' mostly due to the other clientele. I could sense their general disdain about me wearing an Oxford shirt and tie... perhaps I was imagining it though. :) The food was delicious, I went with their Pig and Pear sandwich along with their soup of the day which was a splendid Pumpkin and...sweet potato. The restaurant certainly feels like a Brasserie, and the staff were splendid. I would like to come back at night and try out their cheese board, it looks amazing. As a coffee house, there's no table side service, and no one really seemed interested in whether or not we enjoyed our meal (we did, but seems odd that a newer place doesn't ask). Overall though, this is an excellent option if you're looking to try somewhere new for lunch downtown.

  • Linnea W.

Cure has a cozy, friendly atmosphere and delicious treats. I had my morning coffee already, but needed a quiet place to work and a warm drink this cold, windy day, so I grabbed a chai instead of a coffee. The fact that they offer almond milk earns huge points (HUGE!); the chai with almond milk was perfectly warm, creamy and delicious. I also munched on a bacon cheddar scone while I worked, which was delish. Quality, friendly service and great (Counter Culture Coffee!) beverages is a winning combination!

Stopped in to get a couple lattes to take out. Price was about what I expected--four bucks for a 12 oz. specialty latte. I got something with coconut and dark chocolate that was really good. My daughter got one with mint and chocolate. She didn't like hers so much, noting it wasn't very "minty". I tasted it and it had kind of a mint aftertaste rather than a stronger mint flavor. This is a tiny coffeehouse. I was glad we weren't staying because you are really on top of people in there. A handful of folks were sitting around either chatting or working on laptops. There were empty seats, but I would have felt like I was joining somebody else's conversation--even sitting at a different table. Maybe I'm a little claustrophobic and never knew it. Customer service was fine. I'm not in a hurry to go back but I would be willing to stop by and get something to go in the future.

Neat looking hippie joint where you can walk in and sit at a bar for breakfast on a Sunday morning and be totally ignored by two people behind the bar, one lady who was simply too lazy to get out of a chair she sat in. We are hospitality people and left without tipping a dime, that NEVER happens but we did it today because this service was beyond bad. If I ever walk in this place again, please put an ice pick through my retina.

This is a nice little café nestled into a nice little area. Great atmosphere, great coffee, and great sandwiches. Their BLT is one of the best I've ever had, and their mochas taste amazing! There is a wide selection of drinks (both alcoholic and non alcoholic), and the baristas are well trained in their craft. It is definitely worth taking time out of your day to visit Cure!

Stopped by for lunch and this visit kind of made my day. Iced coffee and a yummy sandwich? Yes, please! I barely sat down before they brought me my meal and it was so pleasant to get away from the office for a bit. I'll definitely be back!

This place is amazing. Reminds me of the cafés I used to frequent in San Francisco. The employees are very friendly, the food is original and delicious, and I was impressed by their selection of teas beers wines and cocktails. Try the peach tea!!

I love this coffee/bar/sandwich spot right in the thick of Freemason. My favorite is their Turkey Romesco sandwich. I had never had romesco before trying this sandwich. Its a little red pepper spice and a lot of flavor, add to that, avocado and a generous portion of turkey and field greens. Its awesome. Really. I also enjoy going there for breakfast for their avocado toast. Its simple. Buts its oh so good. They have a very respectable beer offering. The drafts aren't always the coldest, but I love their selection. I have yet to come at dinner time to catch their dinner specials or cheese plate- but i'm sure they won't disappoint!

I really love the feel & location of this place. I came here once on a Sunday for mimosas with friends & enjoyed myself. Found them to have great prices & a yummy looking menu. On a recent Friday, my boyfriend suggested we try their sandwiches when he picked me up for lunch (rare occasion, but he left his wallet in my car). I only get a 1/2 hour lunch & work is a 2 minute walk away. I was happy when I walked in to only see one guy finishing his lunch at the counter & another man on his laptop sitting on the couch. I thought perfect! We will be in and out of here. WRONG. We both ordered cold sandwiches with potato salad, and it took over an hour to get our lunch. No one else came in and there were two employees working. I seriously thought that the girl who took our order simply forgot to send it to the back. The sandwiches were ok, but the stress of waiting that long & $28 dollars later on sandwiches I could make at home will make Cure a lazy day stop from now on.

Super friendly staff. Cute little place in an odd location. I really liked the breakfast sandwich I had (Pic poster) it was a Greek: Egg, Spinach, Tomato and feta on a bagel. Delicious. I shall return

There is no curing sense about this place, whatsoever! Coffee drinkers, beware. This is just another hipster joint that charges some ridiculous amount for exotic beans to make you think, "you get what you pay for". Well, that's an absolute lie. At the counter, you will notice a tip jar for "time travel". Ohhh, if I could only travel back in time to warn myself to not go here... Foolish me. 25 minutes for coffee, bagel and lox and an egg and cheese bagel sandwich is far from what I expected! Fiancé, friend and I sat down on a casual Sunday morning. The place was hardly busy. There were only a few coffee sippers concentrated on their work. I didn't see any breakfast foods. After 15 minutes, my fiancé and I looked at each other and wondered, how long for a breakfast sandwich? I checked the time from checking in, and asked curiously for an update on our order. Apparently, the just got a big order of sandwiches, which was why it was taking so long. Boo f'ing hoo. ...Nor, did she even give an estimate on when it should be coming out. Anxiously waiting, another 5 minutes passed. Finally, I saw someone come out with something, but it wasn't ours. Another 5 minutes, and here it was. 25 minutes! I should not have waited nearly a half an hour to have already-made salmon with cream cheese on a bagel. Unless, they were actually "curing" it or milking the cow for milk to turn into cheese, I see nothing of value when it comes to this coffee house. You better find something else. Major thumbs down. Time fail. The bagel was nothing more than mediocre.

I've been twice for lunch and it's good but not great. A tad overpriced, even for freshly made sandwiches. I hear the pastrami is great. I've tried the BBQ and a spinach and cheese melt. Both were good but I've had better. The staff is friendly, and it is very sunny and mellow inside. I'll continue to support them because I want to see local businesses thrive in the Freemason neighborhood. FYI--small tables, not ideal for a group.

Honestly, the only reason I'm taking a star away is because of the price. I really do love this place. Good food, good service, good atmosphere, awesome coffee--and I'm a sucker for latte art. Maybe take a buck off for the coffee, and we'll be golden. :-)

Horrible service and burned sub. Thank you for that and puls they took 20 min to make a sandwich. I really liked the breakfast sandwiches but I'd never go back there again.

I somehow managed to order a coffee that I would never normally order. I guess my brain spaced and when I realized this AFTER they made my coffee, the barista offered to make me the coffee I had intended to order in the first place. They are awesome people with delicious coffee! Even when they have silly customers like myself!

Cute local coffeehouse that serves more than just coffee. I went on a Friday evening to support a friend's art show. Definitely a plus that this place supports local talent! The vibe is chill and the prices are very reasonable. Their beer flight is only $10 for 5 beer tastings! I also had the pastrami reuben sandwich, which was good. I'll definitely be back to try their coffees and teas.

I love this place. I don't think this is fair, because I love all the coffee shops in Norfolk, but I love them for different reasons! I love Cure particularly because their food is AWESOME! Like the other local cafes, they have beer, but not just one or two. They have a pretty solid selection (proabbly 20+) bottled beers, and just a few on draft. So, if you like to do work with a drink (that's healthy right?), this is definitely your place. When I went previously, they had a rib special that had been cooking for 12 hours or something. They were so tender, and I was so giddy about how surprisingly good it was! I also typically get the hummus here, which is a solid size for a study-snack. They support local art by allowing artists to display their work on their walls, and use their space as a shop to sell goods too. They've supported my friends a few times, and I definitely don't mind giving back (by getting beer)!

Had breakfast here last week while catching up with a good friend. The service was awesome and we both loved our drinks and food. It was during the week in the morning, so not too busy with lots of places to sit - bar seating, tables, and couches! Parking was pretty easy too. I've always loved this neighborhood, and am glad to see more businesses move in - a neighborhood market, a yoga studio, and a coffee house. I hope they do well!

Good beer, coffee's good. The execution of my pour-over was decent. The food was a bit sparse. I ordered a baguette with avocado, and the slices were paper thin, grudgingly spread over my baguette. I'm vegan so I omit the cheese in the order and so I ended up with a baguette with three slices of avocado. The bread was good though, and I asked for olive oil, which the provided, so it wasn't awful. Price-wise it was good as well. I'd recommend less dull selections in their menu, and vegan options are a must (I don't think you guys have any!). Or even something as simple as shredded tomato on a baguette drizzled with olive oil would be a nice addition. Place is really cool otherwise. Music isn't too loud. The staff is friendly and helpful. Decor is great.

Somewhere between 2 and 3 stars on the Yelp scale actually. I'm definitely glad that there is a local coffeehouse in the Freemason neighborhood and want to give it my support. The atmosphere is right, selections are right and the coffee tasted fine. Biggest complaint was the service. On a not very busy morning, the clerk managed to mess up a very simple order (American with steamed milk). She didn't pull the coffee and the gent who actually served me didn't get the message about the milk. He fixed it readily enough and all was well. I would like to go back and try something off of their menu to see how their kitchen service is. One thumb up for: vibe, location, atmosphere, speed & coffee taste.

I really enjoy the sandwiches here and the atmosphere. Friendly staff and laid back atmosphere. I'd recommend their New Yorker pastrami sandwich for breakfast.

The girls and I went to eat here before attending a bridal show at the Sheraton. It's fairly small but we sat at the bar. The coffee was AMAZING and the food was absolutely delicious. They only had orange juice for one mimosa but went next door and bought another jug so the three of us could have one each. Great food and service!!!!

I love this place! Minimalistic decor, but fantastic breakfast sandwich. I'm dying to try the banana bread, but they always have different pastries, so I always miss the opportunity. The pumpkin latte is my favorite! Cute and local.

Really nice atmosphere and the whole menu looks great. However I had the western salad and was disappointed. All the ingredients were there but the portion was small and it just lacked flavor. Vinaigrette just tasted like balsamic. Next time I will try a sandwich.

I stopped here tonight while in town for business after searching Yelp to find someplace local. The menu had a few good sandwiches so I thought I would give it a try. The place was moderately busy when I stopped in with both sit down and to-go orders. I took a seat at the bar after ordering and waited for my coffee and sandwich. Chris (pretty sure that was his name) was very attentive and genuinely nice. He recommended some local restaurants and answered a few questions I had about the area. Service was fairly casual, but everyone was really nice and helpful. My pour over coffee and chicken salad sandwich were both good. My red skin potato salad side was VERY good. I should have asked for the recipe. I'm a big fan of Counter Culture coffee and that's what they serve at Cure. With the good food, good coffee, and friendly service, this would be my local coffee house if I lived in the area. I really wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood. Chris knew a handful of the people who stopped in tonight so it seems like they have a good local clientele. If you're in the area, definitely give it a try. It was about a 15-20 minute walk from my hotel but well worth the hike. I just might have to stop in again before leaving!

The people working here are very nice, and I really wish I could give them the full five stars. What they do right: I am not a coffee connoisseur, but it certainly tastes good to me. The beer selection is fantastic. The service is great. Where I am left wanting: The food. I am a vegetarian, so that is probably my issue. The single veg sandwich(grilled cheese) was nothing special. I prefer the grilled cheese I make myself. Also, just really wish that the beer was available for growler fills/take out.

I've been here a number of times now and I'm a big fan. I'm very glad there's something in that location, and who doesn't like coffee shops? I thought their coffee was pretty good and I especially liked a couple of the espresso drinks that I tried, the Saigong Mocha being a particular highlight. I've liked all the food I've tried there. The pastrami is good and is smoked in-house which is cool. I've also tried the Monday night barbecue which is tasty. My very favorite, however, is the Romesco Turkey. I'd never heard of Romesco sauce until I tried that sandwich and I freaking love it. I will probably get that sandwich every time I go into the Cure. Seriously, it's great. Atmosphere is relaxed (it is a coffee shop after all) and the staff is always friendly. Seating is somewhat limited and isn't really tailored to bigger groups at all but there is some nice furniture in the corner with the bookshelf which is good to relax on. They also have local art for display/sale which I like because I think it's great to support local business/art/anything. Some people think it's weird to serve beer and wine together with coffee. The thing is, you don't have to get them in the same trip. Sometimes I go in and want some food and a tasty local beer to go with it, and sometimes I want coffee. You can get whatever you want. I think it's great.

This place is really nice. Staff is really friendly. Its basically a coffee shop with a beer licence. Prices are good, the only problem is that they close too early. 9p on weekdays 10 on weekends. They have coffee, tea, beer, wine, sandwiches and muffing and stuff. I recommend them and will definitely be back.

Great local coffee shop. I've eaten here at least a dozen times and never had anything that wasn't great! The only reason I wouldn't give them 5 stars is because it is not quick if you are eating there. The staff is friendly but certainly not attentive if you need anything else after they bring your food you better speak up! The coffee drinks are great and they always have a fantastic selection of beers. There is also artwork from local artist all over the walls. If you're in the downtown area, stop by. You'll be glad you did!

David F. summed it up. Quite simply, there is a lack of soul here. It's as if a business plan was slapped together the night before. If that's not enough for you, read on... I tried a pour-over coffee - it was the worst coffee I have ever tasted. They actually didn't know how to execute it and coffee went all over the counter. First day jitters perhaps. I gave it some time. Came back a couple weeks later and ordered a sandwich and a drip coffee. Sandwich was forgettable. The drip coffee was, well, drip coffee - sort of hard to mess it up, but doesn't inspire you to come back. I really want to like this place, but in its current state it makes it impossible for me to do so. I don't foresee this lasting without drastic changes.

My experience here could be a skit on SNL. Like other reviewers, I really want to like Cure. For several reasons: the location, the atmosphere, the menu (coffee and wine and beer and sandwiches), their schedule (from live music to art shows), and the fact that they embrace local young artists by hosting their first solo shows. I was at Cure last night (a Friday) for my friend's art show reception. I was really excited to be there from the get-go, but my excitement started to turn into mild irritation after I tried to order a drink. I think 3 females were working, but at the time, only one was behind the counter obviously "waiting" on customers. I say "waiting" because we were actually the ones waiting on her. She was seriously aloof. I would even go so far as to say she was experiencing an altered state of consciousness (drunk, maybe?). Series of events: The night is winding down and everyone at the bar has been served. I go to the counter to wait behind a couple (who has ordered and are waiting on their drinks) to place my order. The couple in front of me waits about 7 minutes for their coffee drinks (7 minutes?!). In the meantime, she refills another patrons red wine. When I have my opportunity to place my order, the barista walks away for an extremely long embrace/make-out session with one of the male patrons at the bar. I'm still standing at the register, waiting for 3 minutes, and she finally realizes I am waiting and walks over seeming annoyed that I have interrupted her lovefest. I order a limeade, mimosa, and coconut cakepop. When I ask what the cake on the inside of the pop is (yellow, coconut, etc.), she has no idea and responds in a way that makes it seem like I am an idiot for even wondering. I pay and she walks away. I assume someone else must be making the drinks because she goes back to the male patron to make-out some more. She escapes his embrace and begins to make the drinks. I wanted to yell out "Seriously?!", but I kept my composure. I waited another 10 minutes for her to make my drinks. Granted, the limeades are made from fresh limes, but she had no sense of urgency in her task. **A side note/hypothesis: the barista who was serving everyone was wearing a shirt from the short-lived Peppermill Diner on Colley Ave. If that was a throwback from her previous employment, it must have been her awesome service that made that restaurant so successful. "Well, how were the drinks?" you ask. The limeade tasted like flat, lime water. The mimosa was a mimosa - made with Tropicana OJ. The cakepop was awesome. Best part of the order. My final thought: Maybe it was a bad night. I'm not giving up on this place just yet. I'll try it again in the near future and be sure to post an update.

I would like to rate Cure higher...not just because it is the name of one of my fav all time bands but also because of the potential it has. My coffee snobbery finds me more critical at times than i should be but Cure has some of the ingredients of a superb coffee shop but just dont seem to be getting it totally right. With CounterCulture coffee you are starting with fine ingredients but you cant expect to have great coffee if you dont clean enough. The steam wand had old milk caked on it (wipe and purge after every use, it takes 2 seconds). I dont like the practice of not cleaning the portafilter or the head after each coffee. I noticed they expel the grinds after each shot but dont wipe the portafilter or purge the head. This just cakes it with old grinds and that will ruin coffee flavor. On a Saturday morning, and to be fair i am not a local so dont know how busy it gets, but having one person take orders then make coffee is not enough. Standing behind one person for 10 mins not good enough. Walking in on a Sunday and finding the place filled with smoke was a turn off too. I didnt eat their but my father in law had an egg & cheese bagel and enjoyed it. Not writing Cure off yet, but they can do a lot better.

Cure was recommended by a local in the area. I've been all over the world and visited hundreds of coffeehouses. This one is a keeper. I wish I lived in the area. I'm not sure what is wrong with my fellow yelper here that needs to feel some soul with his coffee and sandwich. I don't agree with another comment from the patron who was left uninspired. Who thinks like that? It's coffee. It's not a Monet. Sorry. I was just put off because it reads like a vendetta and not fact. That's not fair. So anyway, I was told this place was off the street which I like and the cobblestone street was cool. I was told Cure offered a great pastrami sandwich and good coffee. I saw lots of pastrami sandwiches going out. I was stoked to see that I could enjoy a nice cold beer as well. I was greated by two pretty girls behind the bar and treated well. I ordered a double shot of espresso and found it of good quality. Had a nice sweetness and was not bitter. I too was uninspired because it's just coffee but it was tasty all the same. I was checking out the beer selection and the man next to me noticed I was trying to figure out the spelling of one of the beers. He told me the name and offered a sample. That does not happen much these days. He explained to me the history of this particular beer and offered some suggestions of other places to enjoy good beer. Turned out to be the part owner Mike. Good guy. Treated me very well. Lots of hospitality at this place. Even the other patrons were well mannered and friendly. Had some good conversation. I'm an out of towner but when I'm back in the area I'll stop in for a coffee and maybe get some inspiration and check if they got their soul license yet.

ONLY FOR COFFEE. It took over 15 minutes for my sister to get her food after I got mine, which was the exact same order. The avocado toast wasn't even toast and the eggs were clearly microwaved. We had a party of three and we were served individually... Which is not the idea of going out to eat with a group.

In the coffee desert that is downtown Norfolk, Cure is an oasis that actually has decent hours. The coffee is good and strong, the vibe and decor is industrial modern, and the staff are pretty friendly. The pastrami sandwich is pretty amazing. Edit: The one thing that is slightly annoying (for which I'm deducting one star) is that they can sometimes take a while to take your order even if you're standing right in front of the register and no one else is around. Sometimes I feel like I'm at a club trying to get the bartender's attention, when there's really no reason for pretension. Hopefully management can address that in the future.

The sandwiches at The Cure are awesome. I've been several times for lunch. The staff is friendly and the food and drinks are always consistently good. They'll occasionally have live music. The tea lattes are worth a try too. I prefer the Oolong or Jasmine.

My wife and I came for lunch. Nice little eating area but a little tight when a lot of customers are there. Pastrami is cured on site and is really tastey. Sandwiches are about $9 and a little skimpy on the meat. My overall take is that this is a nice cafe but a little overpriced for the amount of food. If the fact is that in house curing makes the meat more costly, they could do better by importing the meat and making the sandwiches a little thicker for the price.

Eight months since my last review of Cure and it keeps getting even better ...selection of food, specials, music and the events that bring the neighbors and tourists together. And of course the great coffee and drinks ...with new beers showing up all the time. Check it out...lots going on there and a great ambiance. Its become an important part of Norfolk's harborfront neighborhoods, for a lot of good reasons.

This place is truly special. While most coffee shops try to be fair trade and eco-friendly this shop takes it to a whole new level. Most coffee shops focus on being fair to our foreign partners in trade but neglect our local growers. The owners here really have taken time to find local suppliers of each aspect of their shop. From the coffee, the meats, and the beer and wine you can see their care in selecting a great display of what hampton roads has to offer. Additionally, I have never been to a coffeehouse with such a unique combination of unique coffee and unique meals. the coffee blends are amazing including what I think is one of the first drip coffees in the area. the iced coffee shooters are fun and I recommend anything with pistachio. Last but not least the meats. Oh my god. You have to try the pastrami. Unbelievable. just amazing. Also, the smoked chicken is to die for it. it melts with a dark rich campfire smoke taste at the end. I do not usually write this in depth but I was floored by the owners mission and also their friendliness to the customers including myself. As I write this I can hear the tables near me expressing the astonishment at the taste. The Cure has been found and the locals are finding it.

Great coffee, especially the lattes and cafe au lait. The beer is alright, I haven't had the food, but I have had a little of the baked goods they get from a local bakery. I like the atmosphere too and the happy hour and live music.

Cure serves high quality food and coffee. It is a fantastic spot for lunch, brunch, or a casual dinner, provided there is an open table. There are only few tables, kind of a stark interior. They serve Counter Culture coffee, which is hard to compete with in quality. They also have a pretty good beer and wine selection. The house made pastrami, smoked chicken, and barbecue are all excellent. The food fare is simple but high in quality, flavor, and freshness.

I love the location of this little place. It's in Freemason which appears to be a newly found (maybe reborn) business district for Norfolk. It's really been more a residential area as long as I've been around the area but with Cure, Shady Grove, and now a yoga studio opening Botetourt is a destination in itself. They serve Counter Culture Coffee which I had first in the Raleigh Durham area and absolutely fell in love with. It's pretty much standard in Asheville and the Triangle yet no one seems to know about it around here. The Espresso here is my favorite in town! I also love the fact that you can get a real meal here, while it's just sandwiches all of them have something special about them that sets it apart from most anywhere else. The "Romesco Turkey" and the home made pastrami are my favorites. The pastrami is like what you get at Katz Deli in New York expect it doesn't cost $27 a sandwich. My only complaint is the seating. I'd spend more time here if they had an outdoor seat or just more tables. I feel bad for sitting up in here because I feel like I'm taking away a table for other customers that come in. I feel like they could fit 4-5 more tables in no problem. I also wish they had a few more baked goods but I understand supporting all the other food probably limits the ability to bake more stuff. The fresh muffins and scones are really good though and sometimes I just grab a Lenora Bell cookie. Oh and it's neat they have beer too. My friends that don't drink coffee like coming here because they can get an O'Connors while I sip my latte.

My boyfriend and I were in the area looking at Eastern Virginia Medical School and checking out Ghent. We rolled into Cure kind of accidentally and were pleasantly surprised! The neighborhood, Freemason's, is reminiscent of a tiny Georgetown with cobblestones and a great mermaid statue a few blocks away. We ordered iced coffees at Cure and I asked Mike, who turned out to be the owner, how we could get to Ghent. He was very helpful and also gave us some great suggestions for grabbing a pint in the neighborhood! I would definitely go back! Friendly vibes, good coffee, a selection of great local beers and hospitality;)

Sure this place is a little expensive, but it is bar none the best coffee in downtown Norfolk, possibly in all of Hampton Roads. The sandwiches are fantastic and monday night's BBQ and Mac & cheese..... Well I can't say enough good things about that...

Huge house-smoked chicken salad croissant and house-smoked pastrami sandwich - both delicious. A friend swears by the grilled cheese. The potato salad and coleslaw are fine, not exceptional. Real sodas, sweetened with cane sugar. A small complaint on one visit was immediately satisfied.
