Wife and I went to the Newport News place yesterday and had the soft shell crab po boy and it was awesome. No dinky little crab. But one that overflowed the roll. The only issue I have was that a bit too much sauce and it overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the crab. Next time I go, I'll ask for the sauce on the side. Too many flavors going on with the coleslaw crab and the sauce. . Wife had the calamari and it I was excellent.

The place has great parking. Just not my type of fish place. The fish i ordered, and i hate to say this, tasted rubbery. Maybe it was the way prepared. This place is OK possibly for lunch if you order small items. How could they run fish that is small. I will go back, but not too soon

Awesome food. ! Awesome atmosphere. Got the gumbo, had some oysters. All delicious, only downside was no blue-moon. For a bar/restaurant that surprised me. I'm from the west coast so maybe it's a little different out here in that regard, but oh well. Great experience, friendly staff, clean. Tvs at the bar for sports and such. Would recommend and go again.

A true VA legend, like RG3. Promises of greatness and hope, delivers nothing but regret and disappointment. $20 for fish, side was supposed to be apple slaw, apple slaw was just raw cabbage and grainy rotten brown apple chips. Fish was soaked in water. Walked out hoping I don't get food poisoning...

Had a wonderful experience here with my cousin this past Saturday night. The place was packed but we were able to be seated right away as there was not a wait for the bar area. I ordered the fish tacos and apple slaw for dinner-both were delicious! I loved the fried jalapeños that the tacos were topped with. As for drinks, we ordered the Rum Runners, and you will not be disappointed!!! The bartender definitely mixed it well and apparently they add rum through the straw so your first sip certainly has a PUNCH! Now, to add insult to injury I wanted to be daring, so I ordered the Oyster Shooter - BUYER BEWARE- it is very STRONG and not for the faint of heart lol It is a vodka shooter with a cocktail/hot sauce mixer lined with Old Bay seasoning with an oyster at the bottom. This was DRASTICALLY different from what I thought I was going to get. However, braved it and took it down. Very strong. Needless to say, we had a fun night! To top it off, service was outstanding and when I visit Virginia again, I will he sure to visit Harpoon Larry's once again! (Especially, this location!)

The Special was massive and well worth the price of $22. 2 blue crabs, Alaskan Crab Legs, shrimp, corn on the Cobb and red potatoes. The crab dip appetizer was tasty with lots of crab meat. The server was fantastic. I only gave three stars as the peeps with me said their meals were just so-so.

Last night I decided to grab some food, yet I wanted something good and something that I could get as take out also. The hostess name Rachel was great. She was also very helpful due to it was my first time visiting, so she went over the menu items with me and helped me to choose some great choices. I had the Oyster Rockefeller, Stuffed Flounder, and some sweet potato fries. Everything I had was great and I loved the flounder. The prices weren't too crazy, they were typical prices for good seafood. I would most definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try great seafood in a energetic atmosphere. Even though I didn't stay and eat there, I did sit in the building for a while to observe the restaurant. They have a lot of TVs to watch sports and other shows on along with music that everyone can enjoy.....

It's a Monday and wanted to wait for traffic to die down. Remembering how I enjoyed this establishments oysters Mariner's Museum food event a couple of weeks ago, I stopped by. I hit the jackpot! Mondays are oyster Mondays!!! .50 til 5PM, .60 til 6PM, & .70 til 7 PM, BOGO free oyster shooters with your choice of vodka or choice of an oyster stout made especially for Harpoon Larry's, AND $10 for 10 Oysters Rock!!! I easily had 1.5 dozen raw oysters with their house made dive sauce! If one likes spicy, THIS is it!! The select oysters that were harvested last night were "Capt. Jax" which are farm raised James River oysters. From what Ryan (oyster shucker debonair) explained, James River oysters are wild while Capt. Jax are farm raised. The consistency & flavors were mild, juicy, & fresh!!! I spent maybe an hour at the oyster bar and it was the best hour I have ever spent waiting for traffic to die down! Thank you HL's for the service and delicious experience & food!!

Beautiful new location!! Resturant is nicely decorated as well. I had a large party with me. My waitress was not the friendliest and had a lot of attitude when an order came out wrong in which she TOLD a member of my party that she ordered something else. I ordered the watermans combo which consisted of a cluster of crab legs and stemmed shrimp. It was delicious however the portion size was not enough for my liking. It was quite expensive as well. Now I don't mind paying a lot for something I want. I just would have liked to receive more. The bathrooms were clean and I enjoyed myself. I may return and try something else or maybe just a double portion of crab legs so that I'll be happy :)

Unfortunately I have to give this place three stars because of the climate and the service. The food was very good and very fresh, but our server couldn't seem to get it together. Poor attention to detail and he lacked in follow up service even down to trying to get the bill. And it was extremely cold in the place soo much so you couldn't enjoy your meal because we were all soo cold. We requested the air be adjusted when we were seated but most likely the request fell on deaf ears as we remain cold and uncomfortable. If I were to come back it would be for take out only.

I just had their Oyster Rockefeller yesterday and this was a total night and day difference than what I had at Pirates Cove. Although I only received 5 Oysters and not the usual half dozen, it was tasteful and the oysters were fresh with no shell chips or sand. The place was extremely packed but still gave decent service for they type of place that it is. Actual star rating.......4.5.

This could be a great place, but it has a long way to go, especially for the (very high) price. The best thing about it is the red potatoes (nicely smothered in butter). The hush puppies have a nice crisp breading, but they're otherwise tasteless. The snapper we ordered was dry and fishy-tasting (probably not very fresh, possibly very spent lots of time in the freezer). Ambiance is not bad, but probably too sports-bar-ish for the high prices they charge. I almost took the second star away for our waitress' NY Yankees cap (must not know what state she's in), but she did a decent enough job. But if they reduced all prices by 10 percent, it would still seem way overpriced for what you get, especially in a coastal town.

I enjoyed my food here. I had the steamed shrimp and red potato. My friend had the stuffed flounder and said it was good. The only downside is the noise level and wait in the restaurant.

Awesome place to eat when you find yourself in Newport News VA. Great place for oysters, salmon and she crab! Don't be fooled by photos and don't be surprised if you find a line. Go on a weekday, during the off hours. Ask for Dennis!

Have been here a handful of times already mainly because of its convenient location on the way back to Richmond from a nice afternoon at Buckroe Beach. It's definitely very popular with a touristy vibe so it's usually hopping with people. Despite this, I do enjoy the festive atmosphere. The large selection of craft beers on tap is a big plus! Seafood has usually been pretty good here... good portions considering the "seafood price" affixed to them... But come to think of it, the "seafood prices" are not too bad compared to other places. Broiled flounder in the Harpoon combo was overcooked and dry but it was at least not too salty and very tasty. Oh, and they have maybe the best sweet potato fries I've ever had! Hand-cut and not greasy nor too salty!!!!

This used to be a most stop for me when I visited VA Beach. I was so excited when they opened one near my parents house in Newport News. It did not disappoint. This Saturday was my second time to this location and it was deliciuos as always. The orange crushes there are amazingly good and they have a great craft beer selection. The bartender even gave my mom extra margarita for no upcharge since he mixed up too much (how awesome is that!?). Our waitress was a bit of a ditz but that did not ruin our experience. The seafood is super delicious, always cooked right, and fresh. We started with the hushpuppies which were sweet and crispy, and crab dip which also super good, a lot of crab meat, and melty cheese with home made pita and potato chips. I got the crab legs and 1/2lb shrimp combo which was cooked perfectly. My mom ordered 1/2 lb shrimp and she crab soup (which is to die for! very creamy and plenty of crab!). My husband ordered a combo with fried oysters, scallops, and shrimp with sweet potato fries. Everything was crispy and cooked to perfection. It was a great birthday celebration for my mom and I. Highly recommend this place!

Harpoon Larrys was ok. The inside of the restaurant is nice and spacious but the food wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. I went last week with a friend for dinner and we both got the daily special which was rockfish with a little crab on top asparagus and mashed potatoes with a seafood sauce. We got this dish because the waiter encouraged it and talked highly of it but when we got it we were a little disappointed. The fish was bland and the mashed potatoes seemed as if they needed more whipping. They were not creamy. The asparagus could have had a little more crunch. I also decided to try the banana foster cheesecake and that was not that great. The foster sauce was good but the cheesecake was stiff. It was light and creamy. Aside from the food the water also had an attitude or like he was annoyed and this was from time that he introduced himself.

I went there for lunch the other day and let me tell you. The place is clean and big inside. I love the interior decor. Reminds me of as if I was eating at one of those fancy restaurant on the beach front without the expensiveness. *winks* The food was great. I had the crab cake sandwich with fries and they were delicious. For dessert, I had their specialty house "Blueberry Cobbler Cheesecake". ... OMG they are to DROOL for... At first, I was skeptical about their dessert but it turned out to be the best dessert I've ever had. The wait staff could use a little advice. The service was a bit slow in terms of the waitress not being attentive enough. The food service was on time and great, so kudos to the cooks/chefs etc. I will be returning soon! "Blueberry Cobbler Cheesecake" Here I come!!!

Best Seafood in town! They have a steam bar where you can order a pound of shrimp and they will even peel and de-vein it. It is a great place for seafood. Whenever i have visitors in from out of town, i always bring them here. Its a great atmosphere! Even the rum runners are amazing and i believe the recipe has been around for-ever. Awesome hushpuppies and amazing blackened scallop appetizer (i sometimes order for my entrée). So good!

If I could give it more stars I would. Fresh oysters, great fish, great scallops, and great shrimp. Strongly recommend that you get the crab dip with pita and homemade potato chips. Best service in VA, guaranteed! Seated quickly, served drinks quickly, got apps quickly, and received food quickly. Server was Dennis, and was friendly, attentive, and made personal connections. Talked about our watches, tattoos etc. Very good service, food, everything. One very very very small downside. The atmosphere is a bit loud with music and people. Very good beer selection btw.

Calamari. And fried crab cake sandwich. My favorites at this place Calamari is lightly battered which makes it really crispy!!! Crab cake sandwich is great. Not oily at all :) Def recommend this place. Cool interior. I prefer to sit outside during the summer

Great food, but not good for a place to have a date. Atmosphere is loud like a sports bar but you will live it. Service is also great.

A fun stop to enjoy an appetizer of steamed shrimp which was cooked perfectly matched with a local beer suggested by an extremely helpful waiter. The decor was fun and the bar area was a great place to relax after a long day.

So I've been driving past this place for about a year now. People parking by the entrance, on the grass - till they roped it off. On a Wednesday even! Made me want to try it out. I got that opportunity this evening. The place is cool. Good vibe, loud music. Lots of beer. Got the tuna dinner. Presentation was rather underwhelming. Pretty small portions and sides for the money. Fish was pretty dry and flavorless. My wife's scallops were quite a bit better and the she crab soup was very good. Glad I could do my part to stuff the parking lot today, but now I know! Edit: no towels in the bathroom. No backup hand dryer. Minus a star.

Great place for seafood! Awesome daily menu of fresh catch fish that you can get grilled, blackened or fried. Super yummy! They cook their scallops perfectly, and I highly recommend the crab dip. Great service, too. Oh, and get the Bloody Mary with shrimp! Yum.

Bermuda Triangle (broiled shrimp, scallops and lump crabmeat) was delicious. Hush puppies were good, too, maybe a bit sweet for my taste. Good selection of craft beers. I'd definitely go back if I lived in the area.

Went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch after catching a movie at the Paragon 12. Parking was ample. Inside was clean and well kept. Seating options consist of booths, Bar Tables, and of course the Bar itself. We were promptly seated at a booth as we requested. Wait staff was very friendly and courteous. I ordered the Captains Combo which consists of Fried Shrimp, Fried Scallops, Fried Oysters, and a Fried lump crab cake; Hush Puppies and a side of your choice. All of my food was cooked perfectly. Taste was delicious. I'm not a real fan of fried oysters - I prefer mine raw on the half-shell. But over all the meal was great as well as the atmosphere and service. The bar contains a number of big screen T.V.s for those looking to catch some sporting entertainment. It's a good seafood option on the Peninsula. I recommend and I'll be going back.

Food was ok but the service was real slow and no crayons for the kiddos. The fried calamari came out before the shrimp cocktail. Waitress was slow but busy so much more understandable than the restaurant being slow and still no service. Calamari was good but I really didn't like the fried oysters. The boyfriend had the gumbo an he said it was ok.

Another trip to Harpoon Larry's @ the new location. I can't find my previous review online, but, I wanted to confirm my previous takes and rating. As previously stated, the location and setup works well, as a local bar...for enjoying friends and drink specials. I believe the specials and the weight of the name will always attract and maintain the local patrons. As a "Fish House/Oyster Bar", the restaurant still leaves much to be desired. Below average food quality, preparation, and taste, continues to affect my rating of this establishment. Things like small dinner servings, freezer-cold condiments, and food service quality dishes, really hold this place back. I know that HL is loved by many...I just happen to have a little pride, when it comes to spending my hard earned cash. 1.5 stars (2 star bar)

We have been here a couple of times, but each time it was just OK. The food portions are lacking for the money, but taste OK. There is nothing that sets this seafood apart from any other seafood joint around the area. The environment is nice, and the waitresses good but again nothing over the top.

New to the area and this place has definitely become a favorite! We've been here for lunch and dinner and both times the service and food was excellent! This last time we sat at the oyster bar with Ryan who is awesome!! Amazing service, strong drinks, delicious food...highly recommend!!!

Shrimp and grits. Excellent. Ample portions, delicious grits and hush puppies. The grits were a larger size then typical and really held the dish together. Hush puppies were superbly sweet and perfectly fresh. Shrimp were the large butterfly-type, six included. Tried the crab cakes as well, plenty of crab with little filler. Would certainly return for the shrimp and grits if back in the region. Everyone in my party of five was pleased.

Great place! Great decor, great atmosphere, great food and great drinks! She crab soup was creamy and had lots of big crab pieces. Shrimp Po'Boy had a good amount of big, juicy shrimp. It came on fresh bread and with sweet potato fries (they're more like wedges). The She Crab Salmon was also great. Blackened salmon on top of a piece of toast and covered in She Crab Soup. Salmon was done perfectly (juicy and flaky). Hope to find someplace like this in Michigan...

Nice atmosphere. Great fresh local VA oysters. Good beer selection. A little pricy. The Waterman's combo comes with plenty of nice sized shrimp but only 1/2 a king crab WTH? Should be 2/2 = 1 crab! Or at least a few hushpuppies Lisa served us well at the bar for lunch.

This place was very busy when it first opened up so I waited a while to try to so the buzz could quiet down and went here for lunch this week with my mother. We got there fairly early and it got busy in a matter of 30 minutes. A good sign! Now, the place is off J Clyde...not the most fanciest place but you'll be alright in the daylight hours. The restaurant used to be a Yukon's Steakhouse, which was meh from what I remembered. I think it was a pretty good switch over though. Lots of parking here but then again I have been when the lots were full so just get here early around peak hours because it does get jammed packed. The inside of the restaurant is okay. They have a lot of cool accents like the swordfish, old pics of marinas and that shelled lamp but something about it just seems off. Like too much decor for the size of the place. Anyway, it does smell like seafood in here which is a good thing but at the same time there's a mildewy smell which is a bit disturbing. The service was good. Our waiter was very sweet, even though he didn't really embody the look of a professional...lol. He was definitely going for the casual look, but then again IT IS a bar so who cares, right? Our booth was clean and our orders were taken promptly. The menu is a decent size with a variety of seafood things but mostly oysters and shrimp. There was fish dishes and they had catch of the days as well. I ordered the blackened tuna tacos ( it was on special, and the tuna variety was an extra $2) with a side of apple slaw. My mother ordered the Larry Burger ( yep...no seafood :P) with a side of fries. We drank water and iced tea. The tuna tacos were pretty good. The fish was cooked perfectly medium-rare, and the salsa and slaw inside was delicious. The apple slaw tasted similar to the filling inside the taco and I thought by itself it was pretty uninspiring. Not a good stand alone dish. My mother enjoyed her burger, she thought the fried were too slaty but I disagree. The fries tasted like they were seasoned with old bay and sea salt which is a great compliment to a fish dish, perhaps not zoo much for a burger. Overall? I would go again because I love seafood. The service was cool and its convienant. I wasn't wow'd the first time but it was a pleasant experience.

I went here for lunch with some co workers when i was in town for work. Everyone I went with is from the area and says they enjoy going there a lot. I was excited because I always love going to local place sthat are not everywhere and also offer seafood. The things I ate there were great as well! I ate: Hushpuppies- Those were great! anything deep friend is delicous in general but I had never had a huspuppy before and this one was the best! they weren't greasy and I could eat them all day long! Definitely a good place to try a hushpuppy if youve never had them before. Everyone always talks abuot how good these are as well! Fish tacos- I usually dont like Mexican food, but fish tacos to me are always a winner. I got them for lunch and they were amaxing! they came with breaded jalepenos as well and that made it much better! it was the right amount of spicy and a great price as well! Sweet potato Fries- They were a decent size and delicous. i think they make any meal better and really compliment the seafood. A nice change from the usual potato fries. The restaurant had many drink selections and a nice bar as well! Would be a great place for happy hour and I want to definitely make another trip here and try more foods!

In town for business, Harpoon Larry's was recommended by a peer who is a local resident. My co worker and I decided to check it out one Saturday. Because it was a weekend and we figured it would be crazy busy, we arrived around 3:30. Our server was a fabulous personable young lady; I think we called her Jo. One of my favorite things is when the servers sit on their knees taking your order- well here she not only did that, but later, came and sat in the booth next to me while we ate. We talked about the food, and about life in general in Newport News. My co worker is a bit of a foodie, and he was on a mission to find some oysters, so that's really the reason we went, and we were in no way disappointed. I have lots of pics, but I don't know how they get loaded here with my review, so I'll upload them to the business profile I guess... I had the She Crab- was hesitant about ordering it but am so glad I did. It was the BEST she crab soup I have ever had. Also for round one, we had the crab dip which comes with pita chips, and chips and spiced shrimp. The spiced shrimp was not the best I have had but, comes in a close second or third. The crab dip was delicious; I liked it better with the pita bread, but it was nice and creamy and had a little kick to it. Round two consisted of oysters rocker feller and mussels with jalapeños and white sauce. The mussels in the jalapeños white sauce was really good; great kick- I would order them again. the oysters rocker feller weren't the best; not sure I would order them again, but they weren't gross; just not as favorable as I have had elsewhere. Round three, the main meal, I had the Mediterranean Fish and Pasta with rock fish and my foodie had The Killer Combo which had crab legs, clams, oysters, shrimp, sausage, and corn. It sounds like a lot, but, it didn't really look like a lot of food; just a little bit of everything. Would have been enough for me, but for someone with a big appetite, probably not so much. My rock fish pasta however was very good and more importantly substantial!! Excellent serving size and very flavorful. Before dessert, my foodie friend got some raw oysters; I wasn't brave enough to try them, but he said they were pretty good. Then came dessert; he ordered two slices of cheesecake, a guiness cheesecake and a bananas foster cheesecake. They were okay; I am glad I didn't order them, but they were decent, the guiness was better than the bananas foster and both slices were HUGE! I wanted a reeses peanut butter one but they were out. I also had a couple of drinks; one of the new punches with sprite and grape vodka - not a big fan- would not order again, but then I got a Waiting List... WOW! HUGE drink and quite good. Although it was quite big it wasn't enough to really give you a buzz- but tasted good. Looking forward to going back next time we have to be down there for work.

Excellent choice for lunch with my ladies! Decor is great, love the Halloween displays :) Started with crab dip - yum homemade chips & pitas were great dippers! Had fresh market red snapper sandwich that was tasty, flaky, & thick! At least 2 inches thick!!! Also had the fish tacos with sweet potato fries. Probably the best fries ice had in a long time. The sweet BBQ dipping sauce to go with them was a perfect pairing! Tacos were everything I hoped & dreamed they would be. our group ordered the crab soup - oh my yum! Gobbled right down! Lastly we had the crab pizza - holy yummy ness! Great buttery old bay sauce flavor! We were stuffed when we headed out the door but EXTREMELY HAPPY!

Joined our fellow work crew for dinner here on Good Friday night: they don't take reservations, but the hostess takes your cellphone number and they text you when your table's ready. Very cool. The food is good, if a bit pricey, but the quality of the meal is well worth it. I'm not a seafood fan and some seafood places have mediocre non-fishy fare; not here. Their BBQ chicken soup is a great appetizer, and the grilled chicken sandwich with bacon and Swiss cheese is on point. In Newport News, this is the place. Did I mention the dozens of beers on tap? :)

Read the reviews for this establishment, although mixed, went anyways-SO GLAD WE DID-def NOT a dive rest+bar, aesthetically pleasing with beachy cool decor, as I have a background in the tattoo mag/shop/expo industry, I'm often conflicted w mixed experiences within "organized chic" hotspots, BUT-they were playing punk rock & rockabilly for music, and the 75% of the staff was down-to-earth, tattooed & extremely polite/ready to get you whatever you need to accommodate your liking. Not one of those "Ermehgerd you are asking for so many little things you're a pain in my ass" (we are a teeny bit particular so we were "those people", used to bartend also, so I know that apologizing for being finicky goes a long way in the service industry!) Dave was our main bartender/server, totally nice and you would think he had telepathy bc every time we needed something he came right up without having to make a sound. For our 1st experience, I give it a 20 out of a 10, we even bought shirts as the designs were rad as well as the atmosphere, no clue about table service, but I did have a waitress compliment me on my tattoos, really friendly. Also had 3 different customers walking by that asked what we were eating and said they were ordering that next (oyster tower-12 raw 12 steamed 12 casinos, which we swapped out the 12 steamed for raw, big oysters, but the casino, should've substituted the raw for more casinos! Again completely accommodating and switched whatever we wanted-AWESOME!) very very LARGE and open place-imagine Margaritaville, meets a high class seafood joint (with gymnasium ceilings), meets CBGB's with awesome service. We bought T-shirts....we never buy t-shirts, jus sayin!:) IGNORE ALL THE BAD REVIEWS, this place was AWESOME! Ps-Dave let us in on the deals tomorrow, Monday, which is our last day here, DEF going back, even tho we love enjoy exploring others places, we are going back!!!!!:)

Being from the inland suburbs up north the only thing we wanted while we were in town was seafood. So glad we found this place - through Yelp no less. Our server told us all their seafood is fresh and delivered each day and all dishes are made in-house. Man, what a difference fresh makes. The fish was super flaky, the breading was perfectly light and the portions were just right. We had just enough room for dessert. The tap selection was awesome and complimented the menu. Even with all that, the best part of the night was our server Alexis. She was knowledgeable, attentive and genuinely friendly. We don't get down this way often but when we do we're definitely eating here!

The food was great! My only complaints would be that parking was a challenge and it was a bit noisy. I had the shrimp and grits ... cooked and seasoned very, very well. Ate more of it than I probably should've :D Will definitely return when I'm in the area again.

If I could give no stars I would. Had a party of 8 show up for a reservation. Reservation was given away to someone else. Showed up on time. GM told us that they gave away our table to a larger party because they were friends with the owner. So you are telling me that our money is not good enough? You can guarantee you will not be getting any money from us ever again!

My boyfriend and I wandered into this place after googling seafood spots. I am so happy that we decided to wait on our table, as I am often impatient. Our order was fresh and we were greeted kindly by the host and our wait staff. The drinks are pretty good and surprisingly economic. I enjoyed the fried oysters which were rather large and cooked to perfection. I wish there were a Harpoon Larry's in the DMV area.

Went here on a Thursday for lunch with co-workers. It was packed. We ordered the steamed shrimp, de-veined, about 21 of them. Very tasty. I ordered the She crab salmon and it was VERY bland. The salmon had NO seasoning so I used the sauce but it tasted like it came straight from the freezer. The waitress said it was made fresh and i asked if maybe it was made fresh and then put in a freezer? She said she would ask the kitchen. She never came back with an answer. i can guarantee, it was not made fresh as it tasted like freezer burn. The salmon and crab was put ON TOP of the garlic bread which was on top of the unpleasant freezer sauce so that was just ruined. I was surprised they did not have a lunch menu or at least offer lunch portions for the dinner entrees as they are the only fish selections on the menu. The sweet potato fries were fresh and delish. Not worth the trip though...I will not return or recommend.

Went on Friday night with a large group (6)...we were seated immediately due to 'call-ahead seating'. Once in the full parking lot, someone who worked at the restaurant let us know that there was additional parking next door. Our server was nice. Our party had crab cakes, fish tacos, fried and broiled seafood (shrimp, scallops and fish) and shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were good...except that the shrimp were a bit under seasoned. In addition, my husband's broiled fish was too salty and my brother's crab cakes were just standard. Although there were a few minuses, the big pluses of the night were the sweet potato fries (delicious!!!!) and the service. Give them a try.

It was really good! There are a few things I would have liked different but overall quite good! Caesar salad croutons were quite exceptional! They tasted like a buttery biscuit was toasted down to croutons. Salad would have been better if the lettuce had been drier the dressing would have clinged better Fish taco very delicious with the tangy aioli and blackened Mahi Mahi. They should have used a little smaller flour tortilla to make it look more filled, and toast those tortillas!! It brings out the flavor better.

The 1 cent shrimp sign got some friends of mine and in turn got me to join them. Buy 1/2 pound and get the another 1/2 pound for a penny. Still not a bad deal... I didn't go for it though. I just wasn't in the mood to getting my hands dirty but I do recall being offered to have all your shrimp peeled for a few extra bucks. I like shrimp but I'm not that big of a fan to order it when I dine out. Instead I had the salmon sandwich with bacon. The piece of salmon was a good sized portion and with it cooked rare tasted pretty good. I prefer to have ordered the meal without the bread as the meal itself was a little messy to eat. I should have had a vegetable instead of the fries. I'm far from being a fan of the fries. Service was okay. Our waitress was attentive in stopping by but seemed very rushed. The place was busy so I suppose that was better than not having any service at all. Overall, it's a decent spot. I wouldn't mind going back when I'm in NN again.

Lots of seafood restaurants in our area. This one was a dive (but great food)in Hampton but since moving to Newport News is a fantastic place to experience. Will always bring our friends here. Can't miss. The food is perfect and service is exceptional.

Delicious! We had the mahi tacos, flounder, and one of the specialty salads and nothing failed to amaze our palate. Too bad we don't live in the area because we'd have become regulars mighty fast.

I love seafood and this is one of my favorite seafood spots locally. Their fresh raw oysters are wonderful! So are the famous rum runners! They also do a Sunday brunch which is pretty good as well. The only downside is that it gets REALLY busy on weekends. So much so you might not be able to get a parking spot! But overall I really love Harpoon Larry's and would recommend to anyone!

Fantastic seafood and great ambiance! Whenever I am in town, I have to eat at Harpoon Larrys. Highly recommend their "Killer Combo" steamed platter. I remember eating at HL's at their former location. The new location is MUCH nicer and the food is outstanding.

When harpoon Larry's was in Hampton it was so much better. The portions were larger and even cheaper. The quality of the food has definitely dropped as well.

Great variety of choices on the menu. If you like oysters, this is the spot. Relaxed atmosphere with a large bar. Perfect place to watch a big game or met with a group of friends.

I love this place ! It is a true 757 joint . The atmosphere is fun, drinks are great and plentiful, and food is great. It is pretty busy on a regular basis so parking can be a booger. They do offer valet parking on weekends if interested .

My sister and her boyfriend frequented the old Harpoon Larry's and suggested we take my parents out here over the holidays. It was Friday night and it was BUSY! We waited about 45 minutes for a table and then endured very long waits between every interaction with our server. I don't normally order an appetizer but we were starving so ordered the crab dip. Meh. Not enough crab and not enough things to dip, but the flavor was good. I had the spiced steamed shrimp like I always do when I am in the Tidewater area, but it didn't come out until about 5 minutes after all of the other other entrees. When it did arrive, though, it was a mound of about 12 shrimp, perfectly cooked and perfectly spiced. YUM. My sister ordered some sort of salmon salad, which didn't advertise it had grapes, so she was a little dismayed because she has some sort of aversion to them. No worries, she picked them out and was on her way. My father had what looked like a HUGE juicy burger, and since he thinks everything he eats is good, I will take his word for it. My Mom thought her salmon was just fine, but mentioned it "wasn't as good as at such-and-such place". My sister's boyfriend was in fried seafood nirvana with his wharf platter, and if my jeans hadn't already been tight from the holiday reveling I may have ordered that, too. We opted out of dessert because between the time we sat down and the time we finished about 1.5 hours had elapsed (after the 45 minute wait). I do like this place, but I wish they took reservations, or hired more waitstaff. It's ridiculous to wait even 5 minutes to get a glass of water.

so many great options to choose from my last time i had the shrimp and grits w hush puppies and they were sooo good.. the best food seafood ive had in a long time! It's always a bit full but totally worth the wait.. plus the customer service was great! will be going back very soon!

I ordered the Mahi Tacos and they were great! I ordered the Mahi blackened and it was spicy which I liked but if you would prefer non spicy then order grilled! My husband ordered the stuffed flounder and thought it was delicious. This place has a very clean and has outdoor seating too! Our waitress was very sweet and helpful! Great find today for lunch when we visited the Virginia Living Museum!

Really really great food and very energetic atmosphere. The sweet potato fries are the best I've ever had. The crab cake (mine was broiled) sandwich was wonderful, lots of lumps of crab meat and very favorable. They have an apple slaw that I liked and I usually don't like slaw. My husband had oysters that the waitress carefully explained the types when ordering and after getting a sampler explained again. She was very knowledgeable. He had oysters both raw and steamed and he said they were excellent! He also had fish tacos that were great and said to be sure to get the fried jalelpenoes on top, it really takes it to the next level. This is a must go to place, highly recommended.

I went here for lunch with my friend. We ordered "spiced steamed shrimp" for start and it was good. Just when we finished the shrimp, the waitress brought wet napkins to wipe our fingers. That was very nice. Two of us ordered "Tuna Sandwich" and one ordered "Crabcake Sandwich". Tuna was very tasty, big and thick. I wish it was more hot. Even the french fries were kind of soggy...not hot...feels like it's been sitting on the table for a while. But we're too hungry to ask to change or make new one for us, so we just ate them. Overall the sandwich was good. If the food was hot hot like it's just came out from fryers or grill, and the buns wasn't plane, I'd give thme 5 stars. I might try the same restaurant in VB next time.

Our first visit and definitely not our last! The she crab salmon was AMAZING!!! We also had a crab dip which was awesome! The place is spacious & clean, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait until our next trip out there!

What started off not so great- waiting over ten minutes to even be greeted after being seated- was actually ok. Calamari was pretty good, but I have had better. Crab dip was yummy, but could have used more crab. We will go back, but will order different entrées. And the rum runner with 99 bananas was yummy ;)

Harpoon Larry's parking lot is always packed with cars. This should be an indicator of how good this place is, but out here on the Peninsula just about every chain restaurant can somehow pull that off, so I went in with a bit of apprehension. Went for dinner this past week. There was a tiny wait for a table, and they sent us a text when our table was ready for us, a really neat feature that I had not yet seen at any restaurants out here. We were seated quite promptly for how busy they were on a Friday night. Our server was very timely and friendly as well. They have a fantastic beer selection and we got a couple of pints of the special to go with dinner. I enjoyed a cup of she crab soup for a starter. Not the absolute best I've had, but it was pretty good and something that I would not hesitate to get again. For dinner I had the broiled flounder, shrimp, and crab cake, which was good. Flavorful, properly seasoned, and very well cooked. With a thin fish like flounder it's very easy to overdo it, but this was great. I would prefer a pan fried crab cake in the future to the broiled one, just because I like my crab cakes crisp. I had the shells and cheese as a side. This one I would avoid until they shift the recipe a bit. It is something that I am finding to be quite common at restaurants out here, but their recipe lacks salt in the sauce. I know that "low sodium" is healthy, but lack of salt in a cheese sauce pretty much makes makes it flour paste with a hint of cheese. Honestly, it was a tiny bowl of disappointment on the side of some great seafood. The hush puppies on the other hand, were brilliant. Some of the best that I have had in Virginia. I will be back, which is a great indicator that I enjoyed the place. With all of the options there are out here for seafood, this one may be a place worth being a regular at.

I've always heard great things but waited until the new restaurant was opened in Newport News. The old one in Hampton was an eyesore and just didn't meet the aesthetic for a great meal despite the great things I've heard... My only problem is that I waited so long as a lifetime Peninsula resident to eat here... the food was incredible. I had scallops for appetizer- seared and prepared perfectly- never overcooked and presented fashionably. I usually judge a seafood restaurant by their crab cake and its not often that I am satisfied. My go to of Crab Shack (by the JRB) has its first competitor with Harpoon Larry's crab cake. The crust is perfect- hardly any filler but full of crab! The plate was served with sweet potato fries and so delicious!!! I can't wait to try more items here... and will very soon! PS- for you crush fans... they have a ton of crush recipes---- gotta love that!

The new Harpoon Larry's is bigger and better with it's ample parking lot and spacious dining area. Still serving an awesome seafood menu and stellar beer selection. Sat at the bar and Danielle, my bartender and server, was super friendly and knowledgeable with both the Sunday menu and the multitude of liquid libations on tap. The Harpoon Larry's Combo is my favorite, with shrimp, clams and oysters. It's always perfect and at $10 not a bad price. Harpoon Larry's is a mandatory stop for me!

Went there last evening w/ three others. We had a drink, 2 appetizers, four meals to the tune of $166. It was a fun place, but I can think of many other places I could go and have just as much fun for half the cost. On Thursday's they have a shrimp special, 1 lb for the price of 1/2 pound. Service was nice, no other complaint

This place is still as good as I remember and I like the new digs! I got the soft shell crab of course and it was good to go. Our server was spot on and no complaints here. It's sad to see that the overall rating has gone down a bit. I'll be back whenever I'm in town.

We just moved to VA and went here on someone's recommendation. When we got here, they gave us a 30 min wait time..which actually turned out to be only 10 min, even though the large parking lot was packed to the max. Our waitress was friendly but misquoted all the prices... The most important part...the food...was DYNOMITE...I got the 'kingdom'- something or other that included jumbo shrimp, jumbo scallops and lump crab...all cooked to perfection. The 'She Crab' soup was great...as well as the special -- BBQ shrimp (however there were suppose to be 5 jumbo shrimp but only 4 were served). The Gumbo wasn't that great...that was my our only disappointment. That being said, we are ready to go back :P

We went for an early dinner and were seated quickly on a Saturday afternoon. My husband and son enjoyed their raw oysters as an appetizer. The fried oysters had a nice crispy coating on them, and we loved the sweet potato fries. My husband thought his stuffed flounder was ok, and my son enjoyed his hamburger with crab slider. Hush puppies were just ok. The desserts we tried (key lime pie and cookies and cream cheesecake) were really great! Service was pretty good for how busy they were.

Stopped to enjoy Restaurant week in Newport News that was expected to end 2/2... But when we arrived my waitress told me it was over. Although that was a bummer since I just read it before entering, I decided not to dwell on it. After ordering our drinks, I must say the frozen rum runner was outstanding. It even had a shot of rum in the straw. Our food arrived within a reasonable time and was very appealing to the eye. I ordered the steam pot and it was delicious. The atmosphere was great. We sat at the bar to watch the Syracuse and Duke game. Since it was a good game... We made a few friends sitting next to us that was going for the opposite team. Great experience overall. Satisfied with pricing although I expected the Restaurant week special.

Food is good, beer selection is decent, parking is a not so great. If you come on a weekend, be prepared to wait for about a half hour to be seated... Which is fine because you can use that time trying to get a parking spot.

Food just ok. Most dominant feature was the loud atmosphere; as in lots of hard surfaces reflecting everything: diners, kids, tvs, kitchen clatter, not as on good good music or crowd energy.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner on a busy Monday evening. Our server Megan promptly greeted us and was very pleasant and professional throughout the evening. We started off with calamari (always excellent here) and the BBQ shrimp. She-crab soup was delicious and the oysters Rockefeller were both perfect. I also had the buffalo shrimp and my better half had a delicious flounder entree. Everyone enjoyed the meal, atmosphere and service. This is a reliably good place to get great seafood. They made my birthday celebration very memorable. Thank you!

If it wasn't for the prices, I'd give this place four stars. Stopped in with a group of 6 on a Sunday afternoon. There was a lunch crowd in, but no lunch menu, so you are stuck paying the dinner prices. I don't usually pay $17.99 for lunch, so I was a little disappointed. I ordered the fried flounder sammy since it was more reasonably priced. It was very good. The portion size was huge, in fact I couldn't finish it. Our server was great. Very quick to answer questions and our drinks were never empty. I'd come back here for dinner, but probably would go somewhere else for a more reasonably priced lunch.

Disappointed. Did not meet my expectations. The soup (she crab) was excellent. Should have stopped with the soup. The entre was OK, not great but OK. I had the Bermuda Triangle, broiled shrimp and scallops, with sauteed lump crab. The shrimp was good, the crab and scallops were cold. Kinda wierd since they were in the same dish, go figure. Complained and they re-heated the meal, still just so-so. The manager gave me a $10 off coupon, good for my next visit, 2 weeks later. Showed him my TX drivers license, they took $10 off the bill instead. Guess that's okay, but I can't eat 10 dollars. Too bad, seems like a nice place, good atmosphere, cold beer, and the soup was terrific. The waitstaff was excellent, my comments in no way should reflect poorly on the staff. However, the wait for the food seemed long, and when it finally got there, it was not piping hot. Probably won't be going back.

Good food and ok service most of the time. I liked it better in Hampton. The she-crab soup isn't as good here as it was before. Seems a lot more expensive too... but the raw bar is always good but how can you go wrong there? I like it better for take out!

We loved Harpoon Larry's down in Hampton, so after they moved up to Newport News, we figured we'd go back - they've been extremely busy since the relocation. To start with, they took our drink order while we were waiting - nice touch, EXCEPT, that's rung up separately, as she's the "To-Go" person - anywhere else just has the waitress put it on your bill. No big deal there. The problem came when my wife's Crab Quesadillas came, and she found the additional hair that had been cooked into it. We summoned the poor waitress, and she took it away. Moments before the Manager came out, my youngest daughter found a similar hair entwined in her breaded shrimp that both daughters were sharing. Needless to say, I was the only one that ate my dinner, as my blackened tuna happened to be hairless. Their appetites were ruined. We never did see the manager again - he totally avoided us, and they removed those items from the bill. We then went to Schooner's and shared our experience with our waitress, who shared it with the cook and other waitresses. Bad word travels fast. So, if you throw caution to the wind and eat there, beware the hair!! You've been warned!!

Went on a saturday for lunch service with my wife and 2 kids and ended up leaving. We waited for 20 minutes after being seated and no one even came up to take a drink order. And this place was not busy so that's not a good excuse. There were at least twice as many employees as customers walking around.

This place was good. The parking is really bad and always full. I thought the prices were pretty high for the choices. The seafood was okay, but I was expecting more with the big crowds all the time. I need to try it again. It is very loud on friday nights.

I went here last year while it was still located in Hampton. We went for a revisit this weekend and there was no sign of Harpoon Larry's so I googled it and found out that they had moved to Newport News. The new restaurant is very nice but just doesn't have the old hole in the wall aspect as the old building did. The menu said it had all of the old items as well as some new additions but that was not the case. There was more fried clam or crawfish. Which we were expecting to get both. My boyfriend and I had talked about eating dinner here for the 3 nights we would be in Hampton but after the Let down we tried something else. Just not as good as it used to be!

Visited this family- owned restaurant with a group of seven, and everyone loved their fresh food! This place cooks with herbs, etc. from their local garden and has a friendly staff. Our waitress, Kim, was very sweet and provided great service. The only downfall is the loud music that made it very difficult for people to talk and hear each other over dinner. I would recommend this restaurant to others!

Downhill sliding at a more rapid pace than before. Went on a Thursday for the 1 lb shrimp special. She-crab was cold and real thick w/ a small handful of canned crab dumped in the middle of the bowl. Don't get it. Shrimp were OK, and getting more expensive. Waitress was attentive and good. Am guessing that the day manager (he) fancied himself as some kind of DJ/music connoisseur. The real loud music was certainly unrecognizable, but he didn't care what the customers thought. The bar customers and barmaid even adversely commented, but to no avail. Next time we'll pass in favor of others.

Used to go to the old dumpy one & liked it except for noise & wait. So we were looking forward to the "new" one...got there on Sunday about 5, seated right away. Server seemed very nice although didn't know much about the oysters & beer. Wanted oysters & beer first....seemed like they had a large selection of both...price per oyster was way over the top, my husband got the special 1/2 doz Rappahanock @ $2/ea, and I got a doz mixed at $19. Hubby's 1/2 doz were the smallest I think I've ever seen, avg taste. My doz was better but for the price these should be big plump and only 4 were, rest small little sad things. Hubby ordered the gumbo which appeared to be about 5-6 shrimp cooked separately and sat up on top of a little mound of crab (also cooked separately) with a very floury tasting gumbo base of sausage & seasoning. Zatarain's boxed off the grocery shelf is better than this was. I had the fried oyster dinner for $19 with what I was expecting a side ceasar salad (it was 5-6 leaves of mixed greens NOT Romaine with a drizzle of oil/vinegar-horrible). The 2 pints of Legends Brown ale we washed it down with were very good. Our bill was $85 for 2 and hardly worth it. The raw oysters arrived AFTER our entrees did because the shucker was behind. At least our server warned us this might happen. You would think in an oyster bar where they expect to serve a lot of oysters, they would have more than 1 person doing it. Overall it was a sad experience, it was better when it was a crummy dump than this overpriced, mediocre food experience.

While traveling on business, I had the opportunity to stop in at Harpoon Larry's on a Wednesday night. I knew that we had made a good choice when I saw that the parking lot was still full at 8 p.m. I ordered the Salmon BLT with a side of amazing Hushpuppies and then had a piece of the best key lime pie that I've ever had for dessert. I highly recommend this place!

Ended up here for dinner tonight with my husband and some of his work colleagues. I'm not a seafood lover although I would've enjoyed some grilled shrimp, which I couldn't find on the menu. The other non-seafood options were a few meatless salads, a chicken sandwich, and the soup of the day which I was told was a bacon and potato soup. I decided on that with a Greek salad. The soup came out and looked enough like potato soup, tasted a little clammy, then I ate a chewy piece of clam that actually had a bit of sand in it so no doubt in my mind what it was. There wasn't any bacon in it but it had corn so I asked the waitress if maybe I had gotten clam chowder instead of potato soup. She got very defensive and insisted I had potato soup, not clam chowder. She acted like I was accusing her of messing up and didn't offer to take it back, so I was stuck with the clam chowder. The Greek salad tasted fine, but for the price and the fact that it didn't have any chicken in it, it was quite small. I left dissatisfied as well as with a stomachache. My husband had fish tacos and also came home with a stomachache. We don't plan on ever returning to Harpoon Larry's.

This review is based on oysters and beer only. So first of all I want to express my excitement in Newport News getting an oyster bar that does it right. They have local oysters, as well as really great west coast ones (try the raw Rappahannock's and the raw Hog Island oysters) and they serve them properly - on ice, just shucked, and with house-made sauces that my bartender paired for me. This place also had possibly the best beer selection that I have personally seen in Newport News-though they were out of some of my favorites, but it was ok because I still found something that I liked. I hope to come back and try their hot food soon.

Was in the area last night with a large group and we decided to check out Harpoon Larry's. The parking lot was full but after a 20 minute wait (it was a Saturday night) they seated our whole group together vs scattering us over a bunch of smaller tables. Props for that! Food was excellent. The she crab soup is a don't miss as are the crab cakes, but be aware that the crab cakes are pretty large so only order two if you're really hungry. The raw bar offerings are seasonal and everything we tried was top notch. Overall it's a bit of a wait but worth it.

Went here early on a Friday night on the off season, two adults and a toddler. We were in the mood for raw oysters. So, here's my problem. My friend had a peculiar looking object in one of her oysters, which she scooted to the side of the plate and then she politely continued eating. A few minutes later she realized the object was moving. It turns out it was a "pea crab." When we told our waitress that there was something alive crawling across one of our plates, she told us it's a regular thing and that we should Google it. She did not offer to discount our meal nor even to remove the little critter. So we just... hung out... with an itty bitty crab. We named it Sevastopol and then tried to ignore it while continuing to enjoy our meal. Besides this adventure, the oysters were really not that flavorful. Fresh enough I guess, but bland and pretty shelly. The battered waffle fries were quite good. The fried pickles were also good - for a few minutes, before they just got soggy, and there were WAY too many of them to be consumed within that optimal window. The toddler totally rejected the mac & cheese, but that is probably not the restaurant's fault. On the plus side, they did let us leave our car in the parking lot without towing it for 30 minutes to go look at the ocean after the meal.

This is the place that everyone told me I had to try while I was in the area and it did not disappoint! There was a great selection of seafood and a very respectable, rotating list of beers on tap. I had the broiled seafood sampler and everything was very fresh and tender. Now I'll be joining those telling peo ple to hit this place up when in the area!

Couldn't make a reservation because we had less than ten people, so came in and was told they would phone me when our table was ready, however the wait wasn't long. I told them I was going to the bar, but while I was at the bar they sent me a text to say the table was ready. I didn't hear it, so they gave my table away (even though I was at the bar and it had only been 5 minutes). So had to wait another ten minutes, which wasn't so bad. JT was our server and was great, but my meal came out last and was luke warm :-( I had the mahi tacos and they were delicious, but cold.

Went to check out the new location for lunch. Parking lot was slammed so we were afraid there would be a wait. They have so much space inside that we were still able to be seated immediately. I ended up getting the fried oysters with fries and a side salad. It was a great! Colleague fort he same but with the sweet potato fries. The sauce that can go with that was wonderful! Definitely worth another trip. Welcome to the area!!

Let me start off by saying, going to a seafood restaurant in my household is sort of an impossibility. My boyfriend fishes so he's super picky about where he's willing to eat a seafood dinner (Red Lobster is absolutely out of the question). As a person that worked in food service for 5 years, my expectations when it comes to wait staff are also high. So between the two of us, going out for seafood is difficult. Nonetheless, for his birthday I took him to Harpoon Larry's and held my breath. The parking lot was packed, we had to park next door, but we only waited 30 minutes for a table, which was nice. We started with a crab dip appetizer which was wonderful, and I tried there off the keys martini, which is their version of a key lime martini. It wasn't the best one I ever had, but it was good. For dinner I had a seafood platter with scallops, oysters, shrimp, and a crab cake. BF had the steak and crab cake. The crab cakes definitely stole the show they were incredible with very little filler. I also tried some of the steak and was surprised, it was good and cooked to the perfect temp. Our server was attentive, without being overbearing, and we never wanted for anything. My only complaint was one of the managers was having a rather heated discussion with one of the staff members..definitely not something you expect to go on right in front of your table. Other than that, it was phenomenal and we will absolutely be coming back.

We're visiting the area thanksgiving week and wanted some fresh seafood close by to Hampton. Saw the "mixed" reviews of Harpoon Larry's and decided to go for it- good decision! I had the combo which was great... Scallops cooked to perfection (a personal favorite) , crab cake full of crab oysters and shrimp wonderful no heavy breading on anything fresh seafood, started with a dozen local oysters and our wait person gave us an extra 6 ! Of another local variety. Both were really tasty and a little different flavor. The side salad was huge as one of the sides I was able to get with my combo- spring mix tomato cukes tea fresh! Hubby got Mac cheese with his broiled (delish !) crab cakes that had wonderful cheesy creamy goodness I could obsess over Mac cheese this good. We were too full for dessert so again our wait person sent us home with a piece of key lime pie on the house! We just had that the next day and it is awesomely delish! So we are meeting with family tomorrow and going back - will report on that meal too. All I can say is the food was great the service was great and fast and I heartily recommend!

Dinner starters were fried calamari with two sauces that were not at all spicy but flavorful and oysters Rockefeller which my husband raved were delicious. My main entree was The Wharf Combo with FIVE shrimp, FIVE fried oysters, and FIVE fried scallops plus two hush puppies all for $20.99!!! So good I forced myself to eat it all! Husband had three large crabmeat stuffed shrimp for $8.99 and he said he would have paid more it was so good! I tried a beer our waiter suggested called Curious Traveler with a citrusy lemon flair, very good and not too hoppy. Husband had the Rum Runner which he liked too. Oh and our side was a homemade apple slaw you must try. Harpoon Larry's is very busy, casual, and loud, but we both loved our experience there. If I'm ever in this town again I hope Harpoon Larry's is still here because I WILL be back. Don't get it mixed up with the Harpoon Larry's in Virginia Beach though. They only share a name not the same quality.

Stopped in here with my wife and had a pleasant dining experience. Service was fast and friendly, food was out quick, ambiance was nice and the food was tasty for the most part. I got the oyster po-boy. The oysters were really fresh but for $10 I expected more then 5 on the sandwich. Also the bread was a tad stale and dry. We both had the she-crab soup at $5 a cup. It had a really good base but it had very little crab in it. They really need to check out the amount surf rider gives you at the same price. They have set the bar for me. The apple slaw side was the highlight for me. They have a really good selection of craft draft brews at decent prices. Ours were $6 a pint. If your a craft brew fan, you'll be happy with the selection. All in all not a bad place to eat but pretty expensive for what you get. Our bill was just shy of $50 and for that price we had 3 beers, 2 cups of soup, an oyster sandwich and a side salad. If your gonna charge prices like that you really need to stand out and For the money there are better places in the area to go.

This place was recommended by our hotel but was disappointed. Can you imagine that they ran out of ketchup? Condiments all around must have been in short supply. We ordered calamari and they brought one very small amount of sauce for four people. A couple of us ordered she crab soup and they were going to bring it out after the entree....we canceled the soup! What food we had was good and our waitress did a good job. Very loud and noisy. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

I loved the old Harpoon Larry's, i can not say the same for the new location. The prices are high and the menu is very different, the calamari was a favorite not anymore it has changed and not for the best, wait for a seat is awful, Shrimp And Grits okay but i have had better. Hope they can work out the kinks...i was hoping for better in the new location i was disappointed all around.

Great dinner tonight! Swordfish over mushroom risotto with pineapple habonero salsa drizzled with cilantro infused oil. And the fresh Rita's are delish!

Although on busy nights it takes awhile to get seated, it's definitely worth the wait and I can see why there is a wait. The food is very excellent. Everything was cooked at the perfect temperature. The service was also great. She never forgot about us and always kept checking to see if everything was okay. Last but not least, the decor was gorgeous. It makes you feel so comfortable and makes you want to stay for awhile. Very friendly place. I highly recommend.

I recommended to some friends that we go to Harpoon Larry's for Girls Night Out, after hearing several good reviews from co-workers and friends. However I was very disappointed. I ordered the fried oyster, shrimp and scallop platter. The oysters were small and gritty, the shrimp were greasy and when I bit into the scallops they were bad and I had to spit them out in fear I would get food poisoning :-(. When our waitress came to the table I told her that the oyster were spoiled. The waitress apologized and offered to get me something else. I told her "no thank you" but to please let the kitchen know so no one gets food poisoning. The waitress again offered to bring me something else to eat,but I again declined. The rest of my friends continue to eat and enjoy what they ordered (crab cake platter and shrimp & grits). I was sure at any time the waitress would send the Manager over to talk to me about my dinner, but I never did see the manager and when the check arrived it was for the full amount. My friends said I should have asked for the Manager and asked to have my meal discounted or taken off the check and maybe I should have, but instead I will not be going back to Harpoon Larry's and I will not be recommending it to any one else to try for seafood. However if you want excellent seafood try "Reel In" located in Carrollton ....excellent service and food......and the Manager stops by your table with out being asked.
