It's a divey takeout restaurant atmosphere that's basically takeout with booths and tables. I order the lamb and beef kubideh. I learned I am not a fan of kubideh which is a ground beef kabob. The lamb was tender and tasty. I liked the red pepper hummus and bread and the rice was delicious. I would've been happier if the beef and lamb were seasoned a bit better and if the red pepper hummus had a little more flavor to it. Overall certainly a good restaurant and one that I would go to again if I was staying at the nearby lodging again.

Nope, nope, nope! Even though the food was so-so, it was tough ordering it because the workers' English is so bad. Took forever to get the order right. The food was very slow to come out, and its was really dirty inside. I was literally swatting flies away the entire time I was trying to eat. The drink selection is also limited, and everything is served on/in Styrofoam. Nah thanks.

I try very hard to be fair when judging small family owned type restaurants/businesses because I am one of them. However, this place lacked the personal touch of a family owned business unless I'm just wrong and they're not family owned. Whatever the case, it started off on the wrong foot and I can't seem to look pass it. I walked up to the counter to try and place my order. I told the guy that it was my first time there and wanted to know what was their specialty. He didn't really seem to care much nor was he enthusiastic about helping a newbie out. He just muttered if I wanted salad or rice plate so I said a rice plate please. He pointed to a chicken and rice plate and said that would be their biggest seller. Really? Chicken & rice at a Mediterranean restaurant...I would assume people come for the beef or the lamb. Any way, I notice that there was a special, the lamb stew with basmati rice, on the wall and asked if that was still available and he said "yeah"...ok, I'll have that then and a bottle of water. I'm not sure if it's normal to expect tip before you give service, but I didn't leave a tip on the credit card on purpose. I prefer to leave tips in cash when you have to pay for your food in advance because I can't actually base the tip amount off of anything at this point other than him taking my order. So, of course, he makes a comment in Tagalog about the fact that I didn't leave a tip to the lady behind the counter. Go figure! The order took about 2 minutes to make. I had barely paid, walked to my table and he calls out "your special is ready!" I walk back to grab my tray and notice there weren't any utensils on my tray so I asked him where I can get them and he points to the area where they leave them out for you to help yourself. So, if a person gives me the bare minimal in service, yet expects a tip and still expects me to get my own utensils and bus my own tray...what am I tipping him for? Just to be nice...I'm sorry. I do not train my servers to be rude to customers just because they didn't leave a tip. If I tip the guy who drives the shuttle for loading & unloading my luggage, I will tip a server, but he was not a server to say the least. The service was so bothersome that the food didn't even compensate for the 4-star Yelp rating. It was just ok, at the very best. Nothing to write home about, that's for sure...definitely not coming here again!

Needed a kebab fix and this is one of the places near the house we like. Cooked to order so take that into account. Love the options for low carb that they have. Hidden is pickled veggies on the side menu. Tasty to add to your order. For us a combo of two kebabs is perfect to share!

We stopped in here for a quick lunch. I ordered a Chicken Kabob/Salad combination - low carb (no rice or bread). So they give you extra vegetables. Food was cooked to order - so it was not as "quick" as we were hoping for. But it was tasty!

I like Sorrento Grill a lot, but they don't have very good options for people that can't eat white rice/white flour. I wish they offered brown rice! I would eat here a lot more if they did. Their salmon kabobs and grilled vegetables are great, so a couple times a year I'll order it to go and then bring it home and make my own brown rice. My husband really likes the lamb and kubideh. All in all, a pretty good place for a nice casual Mediterranean meal.

Solid four stars, the place is a but unassuming, but worth a chance. The chicken and steak wraps I have tried were were a great value for the price and the bread was great and freshly made. The red pepper hummus was good, but seemed a bit dry though.

BLAND! That is the title of my review...BLAND I say. I read some good reviews here and I'm here to say the good ones are nuts. Unless I'm missing something this place is not worth the return trip. It wasn't bad, it was just bland. The was a black hole of flavor, no amount of sumac could bring it to life. The chicken was mediocre at best, no seasoning. The onion and tomato were undercooked, should have been grilled better, especially the onion. Who eats raw onion? I will not go back again. Moby Dick, who people compare it with is far superior. The rice at Moby is awesome, so flavorful and delicious. Moby's chicken is marinated and grilled to perfection. Tomatoes are always perfectly grilled. Sorrento's bread was good, the tzaziki sauce was way too thick. I've lived in the middle east and know my kabab. Sorrento is not good.

I ordered the Chicken and Kubideh Kabob platter with rice and really enjoyed it. Chicken was very tender and well seasoned. Beef Kubideh was also very good. I love Saffron rice and theirs was good. The quality of the food is far above its presentation on styrofoam plates with plastic utensils. I think they'd be well served by moving to real plates and utensils.

Massive portions on the kebab entrees. Tasty. Red meat is cooked well if you don't specify. Definitely worth a taste if you're in the neighborhood. The pita bread is cooked to order and served hot. Don't let it sit as it will get chewy. The entrees are fairly priced, but I found the tabouleh appetizers to be a bit overpriced at $4.95. It's just cracked wheat, parsley, herbs, tomato, etc. I'd like the option of substitiuting the mound of rice on the entree for a side such as tabouleh, hummus, etc.

Always a great place for lunch. Healthy and delicious. I always feel good after lunch from here...not sure why.. lunch time is busy so order ahead if you can. You can eat in as well. Place seats about 30. Owners work behind the counter and are good peeps. Love it and cant recommend them enough

1The best kabob place around!!! Amazing rice and grilled fresh veggies. My fave is the steak and chicken kabob yum

I really wish I liked this place better. I've been a few times now and would love to go back more since it's so close to work, but the food isn't consistent. I love greek food and I only kind of liked the food here. Greek salads are my favorite but there are so many things missing from the greek salad here! One day I had a nice hearty salad full of a bunch of toppings and the next day I had a plate of lettuce with barely any dressing and one olive. I was a little confused but was so hungry and did really enjoy the kubideh. The food is fresh and cooked right away so it does take a little longer to get once you order (and that's okay) but for the price and inconsistency, the food is okay.

I love Sorrento Grill, but it confuses me. At lunchtime, they are SO BUSY, I can hardly stand to wait. However, come 6 PM or later, the place is deserted except for people picking up carry-out, the Frank Sinatra satellite radio station is playing, and it's as though they're staying open just for us. That's cool. It doesn't scare me away, and it shouldn't scare you away, either. Trust me. I appreciate the fact that, with your order, you are always promptly served (at no charge) a plate of fresh, piping-hot flat bread with two small cups of a tzatziki-style sauce, and it's so tasty. We also normally order a side of hummus, which is served in two huge olive-topped scoops, with even more fresh bread! They have a great variety of salad plates, kabobs, platters, etc. My personal favorites are the Grilled Chicken with Saffron Pearl Couscous and the Mediterranean Salad with Grilled Chicken or Grilled Shrimp. I don't know what it is about their chicken, but it is always so juicy, tender, and well-seasoned. Spice Fiend also likes the Trappey's Hot Sauce on every table, which plays very nicely with the grilled meats.

Came here on a Friday evening for the first part of date night with my husband. It's located in a large strip mall with an outdoor patio section, although we ate inside due to the heat. You order up front like a fast good place, then sit and wait to be called back up front to pick up your food and your plastic utensils and napkins from the side. We were given a plate of warm, tasty bread and yogurt sauce/ dip while we were waiting which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the grilled shrimp appetizer, salmon kebab and a chicken / sirloin kebab combo. Both dinners came with half a grilled tomato, half a red onion, and a piece of yellow and green zucchini- all grilled. The veggies were tasty, especially the onion. The meat was served on a bed of rice or bread and we got one of each. Although if we had know the bread was essentially a larger version of the free bread, we would've ordered the bed of lettuce option instead. All of the kebabs were good, well seasoned and not dry. There was plenty of food, and we did not need o order the shrimp appetizer; lesson learned. The shrimp was really flavorful and some of the best grilled shrimp I've had, but it was overpriced . You don't come here for the atmosphere, and I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I would try it again if I found myself in the area.

A sweet family-owned neighborhood eatery serving vast meat, seafood, veggie options at bang-for-your buck prices. It's a popular lunch spot for all the nearby businesses. The portions are generous and the prices a steal. I ordered a falafel sandwich for about $8 and you get one (1) huge pita wrap stuffed w/ falafel and accompaniments sliced in two. Their platters are huge too. Service is both super friendly and accommodating. The owners are sweet and personable. Tip: Look out for the daily specials advertised up front by the register.

    (4)
  • Mike R.

Although there are other places nearby I would rather get a chicken or kabob wrap. I really do like their daily specials here. At least the ones for Tuesday and Thursday. I also like that they are fairly priced at $7.99. The Tuesday special is lamb stew. It has a kind of bitter/sour taste from limes and its a refreshing change of pace from all the sweet food out there. Along those same lines, the Thursday special is a Green Lamb stew. This is my favorite thing I've had here. Lots of fresh herbs and greens. My only two criticisms is that it takes a long time for takeout, and they charge ($.79) for their spicy green sauce -- which I feel is a little steep for the little "wine tasting at Wegmans sized shot glass of sauce you get.... as for the time issue, I can understand and appreciate that making real food takes time, however, based on my experiences I feel like it was taking abnormally long for my orders to be ready. For example: The other day I came in for take out and waited over 20 minutes after placing my order (Meanwhile, literally 10 people who ordered after me got their food...ie. I was number 43 and number 53 had already picked up their food before mine was ready... so I'm not sure if they just forgot about my order or what -- the guy noticed me standing there and had to take a look at my receipt again... apparently he thought I was standing around for too long as well) A lot of people seemed to be coming in and ordering after me, and getting their food before me. Pretty frustrating when you have to get back to work. I figured the special of the day would come out a little faster since its a stew. It's not like they are making stew from scratch the minute I place the order. The next time I came in, I decided to call ahead for pickup hoping that would cut down on my standing by the register time. Well, they said 5-10 minutes on the phone, but it was still over 20 minutes. Not to mention that once they handed me my order, they forgot part of my order. I then had to wait an additional 5 minutes or so while they prepared the forgotten part.... all the while my takeout order is sitting in a bag getting cold; and the potato stick topping getting soggy. The goofy thing about this time, was even though I called in my order and had been waiting by the register for awhile, I witnessed another person come in, order the same special, and get their food before my takeout was ready..... so if I do the math, I placed my order at least 10 minutes before this other person, yet they still got their food first. Hmmmm... So... , I really like the specials, because I feel they are pretty unique or hard to find elsewhere in the area. But, it's hard to plan lunch around this place because you don't know how long its going to take. Maybe they secretly hate me for some unknown reason..... or rather, like me so much they want me to hang out and keep them company on my lunch break. All that being said, both times they were apologetic about the long wait (even though I didn't complain or anything). So, I will continue to come here... I will probably just call 20 minutes ahead of time in the future and see how that pans out. If you haven't had it before, I recommend you try the Thursday special... its delish! :)

Open late 7 days a week, the food and shisha are to DIE for... Some of the best of both I've experienced in any country yet. The DJ there on Friday nights plays a LOT of good music, and the old school really got my attention. The servers and owners are all extremely friendly and courteous and attentive. The food is absolute top-notch. I HIGHLY recommend!!!

I've been to this place a dozen times and it's time to review. I'll make this one brief. Here's what is GOOD about this place - It's a kabob place that has really good vegetarian options. I come here because I can get a lush variety of veggies, salads and vegetarian dishes (such as humus, tabbouleh, etc). And their salads are WAY better than other kabob places - they have lush spring mixes instead if just iceberg. The prices are generally pretty good and the food is too. Here's what's BAD about this place - I always substitute my rice and bread for salad or veggies. Sometimes it's free, sometimes they haggle me about it. I always end up paying different prices for the same thing. - this is a pain in the ass. The chicken kabob is really bland. Also, the environment is rather depressing- but hey, what do you expect for a pop-up shopping center in Herndon?... I'll keep coming here because there is a significant lack of options in the area. And it's not too bad.

Looking on the outside you may think this is a nice restaurant, once you get in you can see it's more of a really casual place for lunch. The cashier wasn't to friendly with us and didn't really inform us of the specials or what was good, while we glanced over the menu (which was for quite some time). My husband just wanted kabob and I chose the lamb wrap. My husband thought the kabob lamb platter was really skimpy on the lamb but my wrap was stuffed full. The lamb wasn't that great-it wasn't as tender as it could be and not the best tasting lamb we have had. The wrap had some weird tasting lettuce and sauce, it didn't really help the wrap--but it didn't impress me either. The pita bread tasted more so like fresh baked crackers than pita bread. I also ordered a side of rice which was well worth the 3 dollars price for a small(well not really but it was really good). Overall I felt the food was over priced for the quality. I probably will not be going back.

Overall star rating is more like a 3.5 star rating. I feel that Sorrento Grill is a pretty reasonable place to visit if you're ever in the mood for Mediterranean. The restaurant has a very simple setup with very limited seating during lunch (which is the only time that I've attended Sorrento. So I'm not sure how seating is during the evening hours.). And because of the limited seating I typically place by order by phone so that I can just walk up to the register and pickup my order. I haven't tried all of there items because I typically get the Grilled Ground Chicken Wrap which comes accompanied by a little bit of salad covered with a small amount of balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing and some bread. Which comes to be a little over $7 bucks. The Grilled Ground Chicken Wrap is not only tasty but is pretty big as well, for being a wrap. So most of the time I end up only eating half of the wrap and saving the other half for either dinner or the next day's lunch. I haven't really tried any of their other menu items but I've good things about them from other people I know and colleagues. So one of these days I will try and make it my mission to try something other than the wrap. With all that being said I think that Sorrento Grill is a place that should be given a shot by anyone is ever in the mood for Mediterranean.

Second time I have eaten here. First time I ordered a wrap which is basically 2 chicken breasts with fresh vegetables and incredible flat bread. Second time I ordered the chicken platter which is pretty much the same thing minus the bread. If you like spicy food definitely order a side of their spicy spread very tasty and hot hot hot. Will definitely return and try new things on the menu.

Very much enjoyed a shrimp and chicken kabob from here. Thank you for having high chairs! After visiting stone's cove kitbar and finding they don't accommodate families we were very happy to find your place for our hungry 1 year old on a sunday afternoon. Thanks for being family friendly!

I eat here at least twice a week. And finally i decided to write a review. This is a great place food is very good. I normally get kubideh kabob and whatever soup they will have that day. I do not eat there, i order over the phone and then pick it up. As another person mentioned the place could benefit from a small fix up. But they have good food, and above average customer service. Will be back as always

The food was excellent and a good portion size. The only reason I gave it 4-stars instead of 5-stars in because the cashier guy was rude taking the order. It was my first time there and he seemed annoyed with my asking a single question about a menu item I wasn't familiar with. I can't comment on the dine in service since I just took my food to go.

Not the best Mediterranean food I've had, but it's still very good. I ordered the lamb wrap and the meat was very soft and 100% delicious. They all give you a HUGE portion of whatever you order

We decided to give this place a try and ordered some take out, I can't say anything was bad, but nothing too memorable, the pita was slightly dry, and all the food had a slightly off taste, it seemed to come from the water they used. The condensation in the box, made all the food taste like the water. We ordered two platters, chicken and kubideh. As other reviewers mentioned the kubideh was tasty. I enjoyed the grilled veggies, and they have a decent tzatziki (with mint).

I am from Europe and was very curious to find out about this restaurant, since the Mediterranean area has always been my second home before I moved to the US. As some people may know, Sorrento is a town in Italy, right above Napoli. I've been there before an was wondering if the menu was going to be italian since the Restaurant's name is "Sorrento". But it's not Italian except the Mozarella-Tomato salad. It's not a whole lot of mediterranean to be honest, except the Yoghurt Sauce which they also serve in Turkey as well as the Hummus, the Kebab and Pita - but it was lacking all the spices they use in turkey. So here's the deal - Their Hummus is OUTSTANDING!! I want to go back for just the Hummus and the Pita bread which they both make fresh in the Restaurant. We had ordered all kinds of things like Wraps, Kebabs, Hummus etc. As I said - the Kebab was lacking all the spices that are typical for the mediterranean (in my opinion), and they marinated the meat with Safran (I think) or some other spices that were completely un-familiar to me and which I did not like. I didn't like the flavor of those spices at all - BUT - all meats and all used ingredients were very fresh... and that alone deserves a positive feedback. Flavor and taste preferences - well, that's just me. But the food was truly fresh and freshly prepared - and the owner lady, who took our orders, was VERY VERY nice and helpful - she explained the different items to us and how they make the Pita right there. As I understood the owners are from Iraq, and I think that's why the kitchen is not really mediterranean and more arabic... so if you are looking for authentic Greek or Italian Food, or say the turkish Doener - they don't have that. But if you like Hummus (did I tell you HOW good their Hummus is?! LOL), Kebab and Pita, then this might really be your place!! I will come back for the Hummus soon!!

My boyfriend and I came here at around 6pm on a Sunday. The restaurant is unassuming--it looks like an old school pizzeria. The sound system was even playing a version of Mob Hits. The food is definitely Middle Eastern-- hummus, kabobs, etc. The bread is homemade and delicious. Our good came out piping hot and everything was tasty. One note-- the silverware is plastic and the dishes are all styrofoam. I would eat here for lunch if I was in the area, but would get takeout for dinner. I highly recommend the good here!

This review refers to the hookah portion of sorrento grill. (Corner cafe, I had to post it under sorrento because they don't have a listing for corner cafe) their hookah is terrible. Poorly packed, small heads, and whatever foil they use, the coal will burn through. Also they use the cheap plastic hookahs. Their food however is pretty good. The chicken wings I really enjoyed, they weren't like any other chicken wings I've had. If you plan on coming here on a chilly night, dress warm! The hookah patio gets chilly. They should turn up the heaters some, or add more. They played spanish music all night, which was kind if annoying too. I'll probably come back to give it another shot though.

Food is ok. Not terrible but nothing exceptional either. However I cannot give more then 2 stars for delivery. I have been here for lunch about 7 times. I love the pearl couscous salad, tabbouleh, warm bread, and the grilled salmon. It's a little overpriced considering the fast food set up. However, the nice portions and fresh ingredients make up for it. I also recently had the falafel sandwich and it was so delicious and huge that I asked them to wrap the other half to take on my flight back to Atlanta since I could not finish it all at the restaurant. The counter guy laughed and must have thought I was crazy. I crave this food when I am in Atlanta.

The place looks very fancy on the outside. Not so much on the inside. I was there for lunch on a Saturday and we were the only people in there. We were confused as to whether it was an eat-in restaurant at all. We wanted to start off by getting something to drink. So we went up the counter and asked us for 2 drinks. The day at the counter did not even bother to ask if we were getting something to eat. She charged us for the two sodas and sent us away. When we tried to order food, they had no falafel. But they did grill some vegetables for us. The food was okay, nothing great. If only the service was better...

Came here with a Specialicious deal for the Sorrento Tapas Lounge. It's right behind the Sorrento Grill, same owner i'm guessing? ***Make sure you check the restaurant hours before you come. As of today (5/14/2012) their hours are Monday - Saturday 5PM-9PM. They are CLOSED on Sunday and for lunch.*** My fiance and I got in there right at 5PM. The host/waiter/cleaning person was still setting up for dinner. Anyway, he was very friendly and we were seated immediately. We ordered the Red Pepper Hummus to start. I'm a bread person, so the warm pita bread was great. We ordered a grilled shrimp tapas, and the portion was very very very small... be sure to order other dishes too, or you'll go home hungry. :[ We also ordered the 1/2 chicken tapas platter, and a stake wrap. Everything tasted fine, nothing too special. We were the only customers at the restaurant while we were there. Maybe because it's new and not many people have heard about it? The restaurant is a little pricey considering the food, decor, setting, and presentation of the food.

Lots of fresh, tasty, healthy choices here and all are reasonably priced. The Kubideh is really tasty as are all their grilled meats. The portions are so generous that we inevitably bring enough home for a second meal. The homemade soups are a real treat. The Aush (bean and noodle) soup is a particular favorite although my description doesn't do it justice. We love going there Thursdays when the special is an Herb and Lamb Stew served over rice. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! If you have room after your meal, try the Baklava which has a hint of rosewater for a uniquely delicious flavor. If you're in the mood for a more leisurely meal, try their Tapas Lounge directly behind the Sorrento Grill. The Lamb and Feta Bruchetta Bites are tasty enough to be addictive. The Tapas menu lets you sample lots of wonderful tastes without getting overly full. It's a nice way to enjoy a relaxing and satisfying dinner.

Three and 1/2 stars Come for the daily specials and order carryout for maximum enjoyment! Simple set-up, no frills restaurant offering salads, hearty "specials", and $15.00 decent kabab plate lunch on styrofoam plates with plastic forks with a "clean up after yourself" philosophy. I have never experienced particularly friendly or warm service, but you order at the counter and pick up food there with a self-serve soda/tea/water station and plastic dinnerware you pick up yourself-- so there is minimum interaction with the staff. I appreciate the quality ingredients (fillet and lamb quality looks fresh, zucchini and yellow summer squash are crisp tender) but am less impressed with the quantity and quality of oil on the meat kabob and vegetable plates. Cheaper oil can leave a disconcerting aftertaste and the grilled meat/veggie items would be better off without so much of it, IMO. My favorite menu offering is the daily special--usually something home-style Persian like ghormeh sabzi or Beef tagine (which is Moroccan, technically, but awesome all the same:-). I do not come for the chicken kabob, as I find it a bit dry in comparison to other similar establishments, but the chicken zareshk Palau is pretty good. (yes, I'm a bit of a kabob snob) I recommend take out rather than dine in (I prefer eating with silverware and don't like plastic ware; I've even convinced myself that it affects the taste.) also eating in means you often have to bus the table yourself. When I do take-out, I love to pair the largest size of fresh, coarsely- chopped Shirazi salad with whatever hot meal I order, as it is consistently great.

I moved away from Herndon over 7 years ago, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this place was still open. The hummus and salads (tabouleh, dolmas, etc) are excellent. The kabobs are usually very good but sometimes the seasoning is not consistent. Overall would definitely recommend this place.

I've been a fan of Sorrento ever since it opened. I used to live within walking distance of Sorrento and would routinely order their great Kebab platters to go. Always, without exception, the food was ready for pickup when they said, hot, fresh, and delicious. To my taste it beats Moby Dick any day of the week and twice on Sunday. My favorite is the lamb and kubideh on bread. The roasted red pepper hummous is also a fantastic staple. Whenever the lamb shank would be on special (which seems to be pretty regularly) I'd also go for that. Nothing I've ever had from Sorrento has been anything other than tasty. Service is always great and friendly. Quite frankly, whenever I'm thinking of having kebab for a meal this is the yardstick against which I measure all other places. You can't go wrong eating here.

Sorrento is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. It is a nice, clean little restaurant. You order at the counter and they call out your order when it is ready. The food is served on styrofoam plates and bowls on plastic cafeteria style serving trays. Their prices are very reasonable with decent size portions. Their staff are fast, friendly and efficient. I ordered the daily special, lamb stew, which includes a side of rice and pita bread for $7.99. The rice and pita bread were both good but I wasn't crazy about the yogurt-cucumber dipping sauce for the pita bread. I also ordered a falafel patty ($1.59) which was just okay. The lamb stew was pretty tasty with very tender chunks of lamb. One of my friends bought baklava ($3.50) for all seven in our party. I am not normally a big fan of baklava but I didn't think that the baklava was that great. My mother bakes baklava a couple times a year and her baklava is much better. Sorrento Grill offers a good meal at reasonable prices.

I love Persian food, so a friend brought me here for lunch on a weekday. My friend's kubideh was tender and tasty, but my grilled chicken was really overcooked. I thought the rice and 'salsa salad' was decent but didn't like their bread. I've tried Friends Kabob and Alborz - if I wanted to rank them, I don't think I could really as they're all pretty much the same. Nothing special.

Hello Yelp. Yes, I know it's been a while, but life gets busy, y'know? But never mind that- here I am to share a little piece of awesome with you! I braved the 22 minute walk from my hotel twice for this place, so impressed was I. I had the spicy ground-chicken wrap with side of tabouleh for lunch then went back for a chicken breast wrap for dinner 7 hours later. I eat a lot of Lebanese food, but mostly in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. There's also been Sabra Mix in Redondo Beach and some place I've forgotten in Manhattan, but rest assured I've sampled a fair number of establishments. I'm here to tell you that it's not often (okay, never) that you see this quality at these low prices. Maybe this place hasn't caught on in this industrial-park wasteland around the IAD airport. I dunno, but I'd expect to normally pay pretty much double for this level of food. My only complaints? Ambience. Music by Sirius Watercolours? Drab, MOR decor? Oh well, small price to pay for such great food! (And both times the service was friendly and the staff comped me some free bread and dip!)

I really don't get the reviews saying it's not as good as Moby Dick's. IMO, Moby's food is far more franchise-ish. It's never bad, in fact it's always the same basic level of decent, but it doesn't seem to have a soul. Sorrento, on the other hand, tastes like you're eating some Iranian grandmother's secret recipe for kabab koobideh. Probably the worst part about eating lunch at Sorrento Grill is trying to concentrate on something other than being a big lump of food coma'd crap afterwards. Their portions are huge and their food is delicious; a dangerous combination if you plan to do anything but sit and stare at the wall for the rest of the day. I'm not a huge beef eater, but when I go to Sorrento it's pretty much impossible for me not to get the koobideh - it's just that good.

The best kabobs in the DMV hands down, top service, affordable, and everything is made fresh. I have been a customer now for ten years now and the food has always been excellent. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants amazing food and on the other side you can smoke hookah out side on the patio. Im addicted.

Despite its name, this place is neither Italian nor a grill. It is actually Persian and delicious. There's no waiter service; you just seat yourself and order at the counter. I actually like this because it means the food comes out fast and you can have awkward uninterrupted conversations with your childhood friends about their lack of décolletage. Speaking of which, their soft pillowy bread is amazing-- had it in the form of a (spicy) kubideh wrap which was unexpectedly delicious. The kabob was tender and juicy, the greens were fresh, and the minty yogurt sauce was refreshing. I would highly recommend checking this place out for some speedy, tasty Persian fare in a low-key setting where you can relive the awkwardness of your past/present in peace.

I was there for dinner last night. The food was served on styrofoam and cafeteria trays like others have mentioned. Very friendly staff. I had a difficult time in finding what to order so I asked them what's popular there. The gentleman wasn't sure how to respond, but pointed me to the Kubideh. I ordered a Caesar salad to go with it just in case I wasn't satisfied with my meal. The bread and dip they provide was very good. The dip was like a cucumber mint sauce and was very flavorful. The caesar sale was also very good albeit on styrofoam. I ordered. The filet mignonette and Kubideh kabobs and I found them to be pretty flavorless and quite over cooked. It came with roasted vegetables that had no seasoning on them whatsoever. The rice was a blend of white and saffron rice. There was lots of it, and it was adequate. Dry meat and rice leaves me wanting sauce. The only sauce on the table was Louisiana hot sauce. Doesn't seem to slather kabobs with hot sauce like that, but I did it anyway. All in all, 2 stars.. It was just ok. Nothing special and I would go somewhere else and try new place before going back,

Amazing food and amazing service. As good as it gets. The owners are very personable. We walked in there at closing but still got greeted and seated. Our dinner came out fresh and on time. The owner actually apologized for running out of rice but returned 25mins later will some freshly made and a free side. Love that personal touch! The lamb shank was tender and juicy. Try the Ginger Chai it is served cold like a smoothie and is delicious. A perfect end to a hearty meal.

I, and a gal friend decided to eat here last night and the food was super delicious. I had the Mediterranean Grilled Chicken Salad and my friend had the Grilled Shrimp Wrap. The cashier was professional, tables and floors clean, nice music, and great value. They give you a $15 dollar portion of this salad and I paid $9.25. I live near and so I'll come back.

Would MUCH rather go anywhere else like the Grill Express for greek food simply because their pita's here are so small and hard! I wasn't a big fan of the pita dip, and unfortunately I probably ordered the worst thing on the menu - couscous salad which was ALL cousocus. The portabello entree was good, but if you're craving Mediterranean why not go the extra distance and try Charcoal Kabob or Reston Kabob. If anything Grill Express is just 5 minutes away and their food is much better.

Their falafel and couscous platters are okay. The bread with the tahini sauce is also pretty good when its warm. Absolutely love the hummus !! Would go back any day just to have the hummus !

Best food in Herndon, I have had Kabob in many Countries and all over the US. Sorrento Grill is truely like going home, the staff has called me by name for years and has never been a disappointment. The mark of a great resturant is two fold......The consistency in the quality of the food, and in the service. Sorrento Grill has excelled at both. The dining room is simple and clean, no fuss and plenty of room. The outer court is a great place to enjoy your meal on those cool spring afternoons, all in all I am at a loss to find a thing wrong with Sorrento Grill, great food at a great price served by great folks

When I moved to California, I left my heart at Sorrento Grill. I swear, I've been having dreams about this place. The food here is hands-down the BEST Mediterranean food I have ever had. The wraps are absolutely to die for--especially the Salmon Wrap. *sigh* Sorrento, I miss you. If I pay you enough money, will you send me some food in the mail?

  • Jane R.

This place is better than Moby Dick's, which is about a mile down the road. Comparing the two, Sorrento's prices are a bit better, the quality is a bit better, and the service is definitely faster. I usually get the chicken kabobs for lunch, and they have always been flavorful and moist. The counter guy is always cheerful and there are usually enough tables to accomodate everyone. The decor's not fancy, but it isn't the kind of place that you go to impress someone - just a place to get good food.

My boyfriend and I stopped here on a whim (and with the help of Yelp, of course ;] ). We weren't disappointed. The menu is extensive, usually at kabob joints you have less than 10 choices but this place seems to have all sorts of Mediterranean foods. I got the Chicken Kabob and my boyfriend got the Kubideh (spiced ground beef) Kabob. It came with rice and grilled veggies (including tomatoes) which was a nice change of pace vs the normal salad you'll usually get at other places. The portions were HUGE, which was awesome - we had to save the rest for dinner so it's definitely a lot of bang for your buck (it was like $8.50 for chicken and $9 for Kubideh I believe). The only downside to the food I can think of is that it's SUPER DUPER buttery. Meaning, all of the rice is drenched in butter. It was delicious but it definitely got to me after a while. They even give you a bread appetizer while you wait, which included the traditional pita and cucumber yogurt dipping sauce. Yum! There's a nice little outdoor patio-type area with plants, which is nice, but it's in the middle of the clock tower strip mall so it's a bit strange. But we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. :]

Holy ish! Sooooooo much better than Dicks! The rice was so soft but I think there was way too much butter. I loved the portobella pita wrap thingy. The owner guy said I looked like Jaime Lee Curtis in her younger days...? idk. I like Jaime I guess... Anyhoo, it's really awesome that they cater to your desired spice level. When I eat here, my mouth is on fire.

Pretty damn good chicken kabob.. the meat was juicy, tender and flavorful. My biggest complaint are with the prices; the chicken kabob was 5 one-inch chunks of chicken breast meat and came with 2 grilled zucchini sticks and a plethora of rice and ran over 9 bucks.. ouch for me, oppressed and penniless little federal government worker. BUT, I suppose they're about in line with places like Moby Dick. It was clean and welcoming on the inside and the bathroom looked like it had been attended to in the last decade, which is always a plus in my book. The yogurt/cuke dip was tasty and fresh. The pita it came with was just OKAY- rather chewy and a bit rough for my tastes. I planned to take pictures of my lunch but I wuz hungy and I's eated it all before the camera came out. If $10-12 is your price point for lunch, you should definitely consider a place like Charcoal Kabob on Elden St... really really good food for the same price, plus they have samosas and other yummy stuff and use halal meat.

The first time I went to the Sorrento Grill was for the kabob. I was not disappointed. The food was great! Love the chicken, the kubideh, the hummus, the bread, the tabouli, the rice, everything. The service was good, the place was clean, and the prices were about the same as any other kabob place. About $10 per person. The portions are big so I usually get a combo platter to share and a side of hummus. I've been back twice and will definitely go again.

I first had Sorrento Grill when I was working at AOL . They catered lunches so I decided to try it. And I'm glad I did. Ever since then I have been going back. The food is delicious. I love the kubideh kabobs! The chicken is tasty too. I love the veggies that are grilled, all on a mound of rice. Definitely enough to eat and get full and save half for later. The price is decent about $10 a meal.

My new favorite lunch place!!! I normally head over to Moby Dick for my kabob cravings... until I discovered Sorrento Grill~ Thanks goodness I did, because it's delicious! They have a pretty extensive menu, so when I first walked in with my lunch group, I stared up at the menu for a good 10 minutes or so. The gentlemen taking our orders were extremely patient and provided great customer service. They answered all my 100 questions all with a smile~! Although, they may have been saying something else under their breath... jk! We scarfed down our naan while we waited... We picked up our food at the front counter when our number was called and I couldn't believe my eyes! I had ordered the grilled filet mignon and it was overflowing off the plate. It was a huge mound or rice, meat and grilled veggies. The meat was so tender and flavorful and they gave me more rice than I needed for 3 meals. The best part? The grilled veggies were sooooo melt-in-you-mouth good! Prices were a bit higher than Moby Dick's, but for the amount of food, wide variety of selection, service and taste, I have no complaints!

I give it a 3.5. I went for lunch with a friend the other day and was pleasantly surprised. I was so super hungry and decided that one kabob wouldn't be enough (I was wrong btw), so I ordered some sort of platter that came with one chicken kabob and one beef kabob.... What did I get? I got a HEAPING MOUNTAIN of rice, grilled veggies, beef, chicken, and holy cow it was pretty good. I love how they give free flatbread and yogurt sauce while you wait! Why only 3.5 stars? The place is either under construction or totally run-down and not cared about... borderline gross. The prices are also quite steep for what they're offering... I would have valued my lunch at $9-10 at best, but it cost me $14... I'd maybe pay $14 if they place was great and had waiter service, but I thought it was a bit much. I really wanted to try the homemade baklava but I was so full that I couldn't stomach it - it looked amazing, though, and I'll definitely be back to at least grab it as a snack. I'd go back, but would only get one kabob - and I definitely wouldn't recommend it as a frequent lunch-spot.

I go to Sorrentos pretty often when I'm home from school and it never fails to make me happy! I've tried their variety plates where it comes with kabobs, roasted vegetables and rice. My favorite item on the menu however, is the spicy salmon wrap! You can make it not spicy if you want. The salmon is deliciously, the sauce is awesome and it comes with some greens and a really good dressing (although I usually sub in rice instead.) Another thing I love is how they always give some nan with the yogurt sauce while you wait. :)

very disappointed. I often go to Moby Dicks, but i needed a change, so i drove the extra mile or so to Sorrento. I use to love this place and i haven't been in a couple of years. I'm not sure if it's under new ownership, but the staff was very rude, chicken was extremely over cooked, the rice had no flavor, and it was at least 90' inside the place,(turn the ac on). I would not recommend this place, drive the extra mile to MOBY DICKS.

I've come to associate Kabob with middle eastern food but this is a Mediterranean-style (maybe fusion) Kabob place. The food was very tasty and clean. They also grill vegetables and seafood. The food is well seasoned and they also had great salads. Seems like the business is family run so the people that work there seem earnest and friendly. I liked it and would go again if in the area.

Friendly service. Love the rice, pitas were okay with or without the yogurty dipping sauce. I feel like the meat could be better; the lamb and beef kebabs were seasoned so specifically that my mouth couldn't really discern the difference other than in texture. I'll be back for more, the outdoor seating is a nice touch.

Located in the Bavarian themed plaza in Herndon, Sorrento Mediterranean Grill is somewhat of a hybrid restaurant that's not entirely "Mediterranean" in nature. Aside from the name and the Mediterranean style interior, the store is actually an Iranian-owned joint where about 60% of the dishes are Iranian and about 40% of the dishes hail from the Leveant, North Africa and the European side of the sea. Of course this wasn't anything new to me, as I've grown up in an area where Iranian owned restaurants used the "Mediterranean" distinction to avoid possible conflict. This naming phenomenon is something that I understand and am relatively okay with but it does create some confusion on what to exactly expect food-wise. For this review I'll be using the nearby Moby Dick's as a frame of reference due to the similarities these two establishments have with each other. The setup of this restaurant is very much like Moby's, down to the microphone used to yell out one's order. However, that's where the similarities end. The menu at Sorrento is very extensive and covers a very large region. Although the Iranian foods slightly dominate the menu, this is one of the few places in the area where you can order a Caesar salad, Moroccan smoked chicken, salad nicoise, falafel, and kabab koobideh under the same roof. I found that alone to be pretty neat and remarkable. And so it begins, as always I order my usual: kabab koobideh with rice and a drink. This ran me to about $10.80 which around the same price as Moby's. Also, naan and cucumber sauce was served to me to snack on before my food came out. Here they give considerably less naan then they do at Moby's but honestly, I found it to be enough. The sauce was relatively thicker in comparison to other kababis in the area and was a little more tasty. My food ended up coming out lightning fast and I was relatively impressed with what was presented. A big mound of rice, assorted grilled vegetables and two greasy, thick koobidehs made for a good first impression. The koobideh was great. It was tender, greasy, thick and cooked to perfection. Unlike Moby's, there was no hard casing on the kabab so I could actually eat it traditionally (fork left hand, spoon right hand) without breaking my plastic spoon while cutting the kabab, which I've done many times at Moby's. For a fast casual restaurant, it was delicious and almost ranks as high as the koobideh I've had at Rose and Shamshiry. The rice was a little too soggy for my tastes but was decent overall. Not the best, but decent. They strategically place the greasy koobideh on top of the rice mound and the grease compensates for that loss. Next time I'd ought to ask for tah-dig to enhance the meal, I would recommend doing the same. The grilled vegetables are a nice touch, though I only had the red onion, which went well with the koobideh. Another nice thing about this place is that they give you the option to turn your rice into zereshk polo by adding barberries for $1.99 more or turning your rice into shireen polo for the same price. I really only recommend doing this with chicken kabab though. Overall this place is solid. The only slight gripe I had about this place was the fact that the soda fountain was 1) Coca Cola (I generally think that kabab goes better with Pepsi products) and 2) located right next to the restroom in a dark hallway. But due to the design of the dining room, that was probably the only feasible place to stick the fountain. So I feel comfortable aying that this is the best fast-casual kababi in the area. If I could, I'd definitely give this place a 3.5 for having an edge over Moby's.

It also appeared to me that they've maybe changed management lately, new faces and all. I've always loved their food and the servings are huge. Now, I went there a couple weeks ago and ordered a kabob platter. I was looking at the lunch menu when I ordered it and it was the lunch hour. When they rang it up, it came to like $15 and I was a little taken aback, but I didn't say anything, paid for it and loved every bit of the lunch. Just to note that, though I didn't ask for the dinner portion, they didn't ask either, just charged me for the more expensive option. I'll pay closer attention tomorrow when we go.

I have been to Sorrento Grill many times and each time I find new things that I like. I gotta say that their lamb is AWESOME! whether you get the lamb kabob or the lamb sandwich, it is very succulent, flavorful, and makes my mouth water as I write about it. It gets very busy at lunch time and you should order and get a seat quick while you wait for your order. I think the one thing that could be improved is the amount of time it takes to get your food which is typically longer than normal and the service, in the many times I have been there, a few of the times the people taking my order have been rude.

Lamb, sirloin, chicken - all good. This is my go to lunch spot after working out across the street at Gold's. The place gets packed during peak lunch hours - so if you want to avoid the wait, come 15 minutes before 12 or after 1. They've got a crap load of different combinations here. On bread, on rice, on salad. Still haven't figured out why salad costs more then rice - but whatever. They pile on the meat and grilled vegetables. Also note - there is a $10 minimum for credit cards. If you're nice to lady behind the counter, she'll let you slide ...

I just love this place. Go for anything grilled here. I am a vegetarian and boy does this place make me wanna try something otherwise. The food looks amazing and the juicy portobello mushrooms grilled with the platter is my favorite. Love their couscous and balsamic vinegarette. Ask for their homemade yoghurt and you wont regret it. The first place I tried when I moved to Herndon and within 5 weeks, have gone here around 10 times already.

My daughter had soccer practice this past season at McNair Elementary, and I drove the carpool on Friday nights. Which was fine with me because it allowed me to grab dinner nearby, while I waited. I tried Sorrento Grill, and I kept going back week after week. The food is good, the ambiance similar to what you'd expect for an office-lunch sort of place, and the prices are reasonable. I tried some of the kabobs, and the meats were good; however not as good as Reston Kabob. So I ended up sticking with the shrimp kabob and (shrimp) sandwich wrap (which is very tasty!). I also tried a few of the appetizers, but eventually just stuck with the humus. Next soccer season, I think I'll have to try some of their specials.

THe kubda kabob and filet are to die for, they are that good. The hummus they serve here is a little different then other kabob restaurants. It has a unique flavor to it....a juicy spicy flavor. The chicken kabob is very tender as well, and you really cant go wrong with whatever you order here as I have....

A good place to get a kabob for lunch. The chicken, sirloin, and lamb are all delicious! You can get them on pita bread, rice, or lettuce, with grilled veggies. The pita bread is pretty good, but I don't like their vegetables much, they're either charred or not grilled enough. They'll also give you a plate of smaller slices of pita bread with a sauce with your order. The sauce is OK, but I've had better at other kabob places. I've never tried anything else here, the kabob meats are so good that I wouldn't want to get anything else. It is a little crowded at peak time during lunch but I've always been able to get a table for 4. Like a bunch of other people have said, I don't like the fact that they use all styrofoam plates and utensils. But overall it's a good experience here.

Kabob places can be of different oriigins-Iranian, Afghan, Arabic etc. This one is definitely more Iranian. I was delighted that they offer traditional Iranian dishes such as Celery beef stew or Parsley beef and kidney bean stew. The food is good but not like Moby Dick's!

Sorrento is one of those places where, upon entering, you think to yourself, "I'll have one of those, one of those, one of those..." as you peruse the patrons' plates. The lines are long and the atmosphere is lunch counter-y, but the fare is excellent. One look at the kebabs (chicken in particular) and you have new-found appreciation for the word "succulent". And most grilled dishes are accompanied by a colorful array of grilled veggies: tomatoes, onions, zucchini, and yellow squash. But since I was in a veg mood, I chose the falafel wrap ($6). All the pita here is made fresh, and fresh proved to be the order of the day. The falafel balls were fresh and perfectly cooked -- still moist inside, not over-fried the way they so often are at other Mediterranean places. The wrap included fresh lettuce and a sauce that I didn't recognize, but the combination had great taste and texture. All meals are served with a complimentary side of pita and an unusual tzatziki. There are several tables outside -- great in the summer -- but sit inside on windy days. A gust picked up my half-full tzatziki container and turned my shirt into something an expressionist painter would envy. One gripe -- and this seems to be endemic of this strip mall -- is that they only use disposable plates and silverware. Not only does this cheapen the experience, it's wantonly wasteful.

Its tough for me to give a bad rating to this place, since there's so few things that bother me about it. The food is fresh, interesting, and if you're up for something more exciting than the usual boring chicken/beef kabob, they have some really interesting options. Its not the cheapest food, but you do get a hearty helping of food. I'm not sure all that food is necessary, but, being the US, we must gorge!! Anyway, other than that, I'm pretty satisfied when I go there. Its very convenient for those in the Clocktower area. The owner is a very nice guy. Some of the people who work there look cranky but if you're friendly they're usually friendly back. As for the credit card issue, I'd find it difficult to spend less than $7 there. Dishes run 8-15 for most things. Try the red pepper hummus. Its a big plate though, so split dinner if you go with someone and get it.

I love this place as the food (to me) is so flavorful and the portions are large (so I can bring it for lunch the next day). The one thing I wished they did is serve more grilled veggies and less of the grilled onions. I love grilled onions but I love grilled zuchinni more so a little less grilled onion and more grilled zuch. Really go check this place out as the owner is a super nice guy and very attentive and he keeps the place very clean too. I hope this place will survive the economic downturn since their Ashburn location had to close due to their location at the mall that had to close due to its foreclosure.

The warm salmon wrap is incredible! The owners provide the best heartfelt customer service, which really adds to the experience. I have never tried anything else because I can't imagine a better combination of flavors in my mouth: Warm grilled salmon, fresh hot pita, lettuce, tomato, onion & some amazing dressing. It just doesn't get any better than this. in 5 years I have NEVER been disappointed.

I would have rated this 4-5 stars in years past. Food is still great, BUT they raised their price and started giving less pieces of chicken and fish on the salads. Ticks me off, I know we are all struggling in this economy, but if I pay $11.95 for a salmon salmon at counter service, I expect more than 4-5 bite size pieces on top of my salad of almost just greens. The local restaurant, Sweet Water (in Centreville and Cascades) gives a large Salmon fillet on a salad for $15.95, and theirs includes warm red potatoes, green beans, goat cheese, nuts. Crazzzzy......this place cuts back on feta, veggies, olives, and red roasted peppers. There used to be tons of that and more fish/meat for $9.95 a few years ago. I am really disappointed on the pricing/proportion. BUT, the food still tastes great and the fresh pita bread is INCREDIBLE and I LOVE the RED PEPPER HUMMUS and PEARL COUSCOUS! They are amazing to me!

One of my favorite lunch spots. The salmon salad is the best that I have had. The chicken wrap is good as well. Service could be better. Also, check your order before you leave. I ordered for pick-up and didn't realize that I had been given the wrong order on two occassions.

Been a regular here for the last 5-6 years. I think in all that time I have had only 2 bad experiences with the food or service. Sometimes the bread is a little overcooked, but other than that, it's amazing. The food tastes fresh and is light on your wallet and stomach. You really can't go wrong here. The lamb, kubideh (sp?), and shrimp are always tasty. The chicken wrap is one of the best items, and the rice is filling and very flavorful. A great lunch option or dinner for the family. I got the Wednsday Special Braised Chicken. It was soooooo good. The chicked is so well cooked and tendor. The meat is literally falling off the bone. And you can taste it has been slow cook thoroughly that the flavor of the sauce get into the meat, so the meat is so tasty. Totally recommendate this place for everyone. Sorrento Kabob is pretty Mediterranean when it comes to food. Not sure if this is arab style or it's greek style but they do have very tender kabobs. The chicken and kubidah are really really tasty. The rice too,you can taste the butter in it. Health fanatics should probably stay away but taste wise it's good. It's a bit out of the way for me, but I was happy with my order. If i had to complain about anything it is the prices of their sides and sauces. It's an extra $1.68 if you want an extra sauce (small little container of some type of yogurt based sauce) and falafel's, it's $1.25 for one, so if you order a normal order of falafel's which is like...4 it starts costing more. The place itself is nothing special, just chairs and tables. It's kinda hot inside too, half due to the weather and half due to the fact I don't think the air conditioner is blasting all the time. Even the cashier was sweatiing a storm when I came in for my order. Made me wonder if extra salt would be in my food. It's a nice place to stop by if you are in the area, however nothing to go out of your way for.

The food was excellent and a good portion size. The only reason I gave it 4-stars instead of 5-stars in because the cashier guy was rude taking the order.

So so food. Expensive price. Not friendly staff.... Not worthy to try. I don't recommend it.

Made the mistake and estimated time AFTER I PAID of course said TWO HOURS for ONE SALAD! Had I known this I would have had the time to go to the gym. Drive to the grocery store and go home and make dinner!

  • Caitlin C.

  • Veronica J.

I love this place -- one of the best Kabob places in a very crowded field. Entrees filled with fresh and grilled veggies, too. You can eat very well here.
