Sunday Bloody Mary's for $1!!! Great food (brunch and dinner)! Tons of beer on draught - local and remote beer + rotating draught list! Always something new. The only thing I would suggest to the owner would be to keep the bathroom cleaner - the floor is always sticky and smells like piss!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! My husband and I and 2 friends went there on a Saturday night. My husband and I went to the bar to order drinks while the other 2 people in our party grabbed a table. It took over 5 mins to even be acknowledged by the bartender (the one with long dreadlocks) and even when she did acknowledge us she was incredibly rude and off putting especially for being so slow. When I went back to order another drink, again it took quite a long time. I noticed she was only attentive to the guys at the bar and not only did she again ignore me but she actually stood in the corner and flirted with a customer before even getting my drink. There was maybe a total of 10 or 12 people in the bar. The service should not have been that horrible. Now, not only was the bar tender rude but the wait staff was even worse. The tables and booths at this establishment are big wooded checker boards; a clever idea for a bar. We asked one of the waiters if they had any checker pieces we could use. And he said "do you carry around checker peices in your pocket? If not then no we don't." And walked away. This was not our first time there but it will certainly be our last. My husband and I live nearby and we had 2 friends visiting and honestly it was embarrassing how rude the staff was. Especially since their drinks are not that cheap AND we had to pay a $5 cover to get in. I have worked in food and bev for a while and I know first hand what it is like to be a server and this is not how you treat customers.

Taphouse in Hampton is a great place to meet for lunch or drinks. The cider mussels are phenomenal and happen to be my fave dish on the menu. Try the turkey club sandwich is a great way to spend lunch with some good conversation. The microbrew is great. They have an impressive selection of local brews, and other international brews as well. The atmosphere is casual and the service is friendly.

I ordered the Salmon and asked for a medium rare fillet. To my delight the meal was fantastic. The salmon was cooked to perfection the vegetables were crispy and delicious. I'm hoping the rest of the menu is just as good as what I ordered. If it is, this place is a definite "must go to" if you're ever in Hampton.

The Taphouse is one of the oldest buildings in Hampton, and the bar is loaded with so much old world charm that it harkens back to days of Sailors and Schooners. Within moments, I could see that we were in a locals' favorite hot spot, which was just what I was looking for on a rainy afternoon Our bartender Crystal, a cool dreadlock sporting drinkslinger, was extremely friendly. She immediately suggested the perfect sandwich, a massive club, for my foodie desires. This delicious gut buster was loaded with ham, turkey, bacon, and cheese; it was club sandwich of Dagwood Bumpsted's (If you're not familiar with Dagwood, let's just say he liked a big sandwich). Crystal also helped me find the perfect drink for my meal, a snakebite made with Guinness and pineapple cider. Yes, Yelpers, pineapple cider rules the day!! With drinks, sandwiches, and service like this, I could easily find myself in the Taproom on my next Hampton visit.

I'd say the experience was closer to a 3.5, but because of the service I'm rounding down. My friend and I met here for Sunday brunch at around 1. The hostess was friendly and said that we could grab a seat wherever we wanted. There were no open tables, so we sat at a couple of the last remaining stools at the bar. I noticed a few other groups came in and wanted a table and it didn't appear that there was any wait list system. I also noticed the upstairs was closed. Odd considering Sunday brunch seems like it would be one of its busiest meals. The bartender was also friendly, but a bit slow. It seemed to take forever to get her attention to take our orders. She did tell us that there were $1 bloody marys, which we both got. I wasn't planning on having a boozy brunch given my wine splurge the day prior, but I couldn't pass up on that deal and the drink was strong and zesty with a spicy kick. Onto the food. We were both satisfied with what we ordered. I had the Taphouse Frittata. It was a nice portion, the egg was fluffy and cheesy. They used the same home fries that were served as the side in the frittata itself, which I felt was overkill. I opted for an english muffin instead of grits, and it was smothered with butter. My friend had the bread pudding french toast with bacon and a side of home fries. She said it was excellent (and it looked it). The food did take quite a while to prepare, but I take it that's because they don't have a big kitchen and were filled to capacity with diners. I took note of variety of beers available both on tap and by the bottle and plan to come back. It really is a cozy spot to hangout and watch some sports.

I have gone to the Taphouse several times. I am a big fan of the wide selection of beers they have on their menu. Usually, I stop in for a beer or two with friends, but yesterday we decided to stop for a late lunch. They have a much larger food menu than what I initially expected. I ordered the fish tacos, which happened to be fresh Tuna. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was so good for a place that looks so dive-y. The rest of the group had burgers and a Reuben which they were very happy with as well. As for beer, I had the Southern Tier Choklat Oranj, one of my new favorites. Good times with good people.

Stopped in for lunch and a beer before a 30-mile bike ride through Hampton and Fort Monroe. Got the Texas Burger, which was juicy and delicious. The fries were pretty doggone good too. Great beer selection! I've I bike Hampton again, I'm coming back.

Webt in and they werent busy and sat at the end of the bar for 7 minutes and not even an acknowledgement so I walked next door and got served immediately. You have to be attentive to your customers. If they were busy I would understand.

The food was good but overpriced - $10-$15 for a hamburger which included nothing. Sides are another $3-6, beer standard $5-$8 and plenty on tap. There was one waitress working the entire restaurant and one at the bar.. service was slow and seemed rushed like she had no time for questions. Hope you don't need to use a restroom as they are on the second floor not even in the restaurant and no h/c access. . Pretty bad. Overall I would have rated 2.5 if possibly but rounded up. Will not be back unless changes are made.

I can only assume that Taphouse staff was made aware of service issues referenced in the prior reviews. I can say without a doubt that our waitress was the best! Although we would have preferred a non achololic beverage she searched for those brews with low content and brought over samples to try. Now for the food Beet feta salad Chicken livers (I'm an old soul) & Fish tacos (I skipped lunch) excellent. I can't wait to go back. And to think I never would have found this place if I hadn't been stranded by Winter Storm Remus. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

When we first sat down at Taphouse and surveyed our surroundings, my husband almost made us get up & find someplace else to eat. It is DIRTY. The tables, floors, silverware, glasses, and, perhaps most importantly, the bathroom were all totally filthy. Apparently the door to the men's restroom didn't even have a doorknob! On to the service -- it was completely dismal. I don't even know where to begin. Our server was one of the worst I have ever had at a restaurant. We had to ask three times for another menu and set of silverware. Our drinks didn't get refilled until we tracked down another server. Our server told us the soup of the day was potato bacon, and one person in our party ordered it; when the soup arrived at the table, it was a hideous orange color and tasted like pumpkin or sweet potato. Definitely NOT potato bacon. When we asked the server about her mistake, she said she would check in to it, but she never did. She also charged us for the gross soup no one ordered! The only bright spot at Taphouse is the menu and food. There were lots of dishes on the menu that sounded great; we all had a hard time choosing. I had the garlic chicken pasta bowl -- truly delicious! My husband had the shrimp po' boy sandwich, also quite tasty. Our friends had the BBQ sandwich and blackened tuna. We all shared red velvet cheesecake and blueberry cobbler for dessert. No one had any complaints about the food. The good food was NOT enough to compensate for the squalid surroundings and the atrocious service. I will not be back to Taphouse.

Taphouse is a great little joint but their menu and service needs work. They have let the quality of prep slip and some of the items that are regular menu items are not as good as they used to be. PLEASE do a revisit as I love the extensive beer menu!

Wow I have so many great memories here and also nights that I don't remember. ;) this is such a great place to hang out with friends, on a date, or even alone. Great beer selection and wonderful hearty comfort food. Don't know if they still do it but they once had an amazing brunch. Oh Taphouse how I love you. If you've never been here you must go now.

We stumbled on this place on our way back to town from Busch Gardens. I was pleasantly surprised by their beer selection and their food was wonderful. I think this was some of the best chicken noodle soup I've ever had in my life. The ambiance of the place is really cool, a very neat old building. When you go upstairs there is almost a feeling of being slightly off kilter (I'd imagine product of being an older building) and it's much colder (again older building and we went in December). The upstairs has a cool small music joint vibe with a stage and while there was not a band playing that night I imagine it to be a fun place to go.

Went here for brunch and I was really amazed. Did one of the specials with shark over poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, spinach and potatoes. Really really satisfying and the portion was perfect. Also ended with blackberry cobbler, and it was also so good! Definitely recommend and would come back. Also beer selection is awesome!

The Taphouse's kitchen stays open the latest for dinner of any restaurants in downtown Hampton and will do in a pinch, though the food is just ok... I got a crab cake and a couple other things that were not memorable. What is memorable, is the service by the bartender, who texted me pictures of the menu so that I could get an order to the kitchen in time before it closed (the bar stays open much later than the kitchen). She was really nice and there are a ton of beers on tap. She seemed to know them pretty well and offered good recommendations. I would come here for a beer or two, but grab food somewhere else.

SUNDAY BRUNCH: Wow!! ** One dollar bloody Mary's and $2.00 mimosas to go along with unique and inspired breakfast/brunch. One visit I had a duck and poached egg dish for brunch and on another, seared tuna with blue cheese grits and garlic green beans with a poached egg.

Don't go here on a Friday night and expect to get served. Walked in and there was one person that looked like she may have been working the floor but she was laughing and talking with only one table so I'm not too sure. Seated ourselves at a table that had clearly not been wiped down and waited for at least 10 mins. No one came and we tried to wave down the one girl but didn't get a reaction. Left after that for somewhere that'll actually serve their patrons.

The Taphouse has a wonderful beer selection. I come here periodically to sample something new. They have bands on the weekends, and the service is excellent. Try the Crab Dip burger, it's amazing. Heck, try anything and you won't be disappointed!.

This is my first time back in the Hampton Taphouse in quite a while. Just over a year I guess. We stopped in here after attending the Mariners' Craft Beer Festival today. I had a hankering for a Purple Haze, unfortunately they no longer carry my cherished beverage. I settled for a Snake Bite and took a look at the menu. I ended up ordering a the Smokehouse Burger for lunch, which is a bacon cheeseburger with house BBQ Mayo. The burger was ok, it hit the spot, however it was a bit overcooked and dry. The BBQ mayo was there, but I couldn't taste the BBQ. The fries were just generic fries, nothing to write home about. They definitely weren't as warm as by burger. All in all, minor complaints, great beer selection and definitely worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.

I liked the Taphouse. We came in the early evening before an IMAX movie at the VA Air and Space Museum, so it wasn't busy at all, but it seems like it would be a very popular place around 9 pm onward. We sat upstairs, which is a little less well kept, but has a stage for live music. As the name implies, they have a huge selection of beers on tap. We ordered the hummus as an appetizer and it was excellent. It has lemon juice in it, which added a nice twist. The cheeseburger was made from fresh meat and very tasty. The service was prompt. I would definitely go again to absorb the atmosphere when it's a little later in the evening.

This bar was awesome! I loved the decor, the selection, and the food. As someone not from the area it was great to have a large selection of local beers. As a beer nerd it was really cool also to see their large chart of different beer types. We went on a night with a good special: any beer under $5 was $2.50 until 9pm. We also had the crab burger which melted in your mouth with chewey delicious goodness that left me fighting over the second half with my boyfriend.

Whenever my bf comes into town we ALWAYS come here for Sunday brunch. I always get the bread pudding french toast (with a side of home fries) and it's cooked to perfection every time. Seriously, the consistency amazes me. My bf always gets one of the fish specials on the board which are somehow always tailored to his taste. The waitresses are always friendly and usually timely (for the most part). Even if you do have a bit of a wait for your food, it will be well worth it once your plate is set in front of you and you take that first bite. It is usually pretty crowded, and I'm sure they would get even more business if they opened up the top section for brunch. Don't understand why they keep it closed. But overall, great brunch spot. Try it out!

  • Joshua B.

Great selections of all different kinds and they are always adding new stuff. I like how the drink menu is broken down by different types of brews so it makes it easier for me to select one. The wait staff is knowledgable and usually has some great recommendations.

Brunch was really good. Everything I've had has been good. However I watched our waitress go make some hot coco with whip cream and dipped her spoon in it and try some, which is fine I just had a problem with seeing her continue to eat the cream with the same spoon in a tub of cream for customers. Completely unsanitary.

Another hidden, rustic joint with great food and extensive beer selection. They usually have some pretty interesting stuff on the specials board, and my husband has ordered quite a few different things and always been happy. I always order the crab cake sandwich because it is, hands down, the best crab cake sandwich on the east coast. And I've eaten a LOT of crab cake sandwiches, from Florida to Maine. It's huge, with lots of crab and only a little filler, and topped with fresh tomato, lettuce, red onion and a side of remoulade. For me, there's no point in eating anything else when I'm at Taphouse. I usually order mine with a salad vs fries, and get a heaping portion of crisp fresh greens (not iceberg or romaine either) and house made dressing. Yum! (I'm picky about salad greens. Don't give me a bowl of browning iceberg and shaved carrots if you want me to be happy.) The awesomeness of the crab cake sandwich aside, there are some caveats to dining here. The seating downstairs is very limited, and not that comfy if you don't get one of the two booths. There is also seating upstairs, but it is in serious need of a remodel. Your pretty much eating on chintzy tables and chairs set up in front of a stage. As in, where you'd be dancing if it was 12 a.m. and there was a band. So I would avoid that whole part. My husband and I usually sit at the bar, where we get amazing service, and happily eat our crazy-good sandwiches with a cold pint.

  • Jennifer S.

Great food, awesome beer selection, casual bar ambiance. Not the best service, friendly but a bit too laid-back for my taste. Also forgot our appetizer, which was disappointing. Limited seating as well. All in all the food was very good, which made up for other areas that were lacking.

  • David H.

A great place to drink! I swear up and down that the fries here are the best you'll ever eat. The beer is constantly rotating, the staff is amazing, and the place is the perfect kind of dive bar. Our favorite part: we came here to watch a football game one night and there was a handicapped man eating at the bar. The bartender took great care of him and even helped him to his car at the end of the night - seriously, the best service we've seen in Hampton roads.

This place is a nice place to hang out, and has a great selection of beer. I have been here more than a few times and the service is usually pretty good. Last time I went, a group of us (7 people) sat upstairs on Friday night. Apparently, when the upstairs closes, you can no longer order beer even though the bar is still open downstairs. That was a little frustrating. Other than that, it is a great hangout spot in downtown Hampton. The food is ok as well

The menu at the Taphouse was revised/improved and after I got a look at it I decided to make a visit for lunch. The place is very small, unless they have seating elsewhere, maybe upstairs. They have a really cool chalkboard art/menu. The waitress was very friendly although service was slow. My friend and I ordered the Taphouse cheeseburger with grilled onions. It says, "The basic model with your choice of 3 different cheeses. You can get, according to the menu, a house salad for an extra dollar, but the waitress told us it would be $2, so I said chips, which are included. After about 20 minutes the waitress came back and said, "In the future, we don't do grilled onions, but we will do it this time." I was pretty surprised about kind of being told not to ask in the future for a basic burger item, but at 30 minutes I asked when we would get the food because we were on lunch break. She said it was on the grill. There was only one other table dining at the time. The cheeseburger came out with NO grilled onions. The waitress apologized and said she had been arguing with the chef for 20 minutes about giving us some grilled onions. Can you imagine a place in these days that won't throw some onions on the grill to please customers? Anyway, we were not asked how we wanted our burger, and it was cooked almost medium- ok for me but my companion was choking literally on the raw center. I thought I was going to have to do a heimlich. So I basically paid about $13 total for a plain cheeseburger with some potato chips, and it took us more than 30 minutes to get our food in a near empty restuarant. I asked the waitress to please let the owner or manager know anbout the chef's refusal to throw a few grilled onions on our burger. Seems like she would have had the manager come over to our table, but I don't even know if a manager was onsite. I doubt we will be back. There are too many similar places to go in the same area.

Awesome service and I'm a big fan of good service. The bartenders are on point. The food specials are great with big portions. The beers on tap are always changing. Someone asked bout drink specials in another review below. It's against the ABC rules to advertise drinks. The place is a great venue for live music on the weekends killer bands from all over the east coast definitely worth checking out if your in the area.

Try coming here for brunch! The food is ALWAYS great and not what you would expect for a bar. Not your typical bar food. Great place on the weekends for a beer and a quaint place just to sit and hang out.

Awesome craft beer selection, friendly bar staff, great food! My wife and I tried Tap House last Friday and have discovered a new favorite watering hole. The beer selection was more than I was expecting and our bartender Crystal was friendly and helpful when asking for recommendations. Before leaving we learned of their Sunday brunch and returned again for brunch 2 days later. Food was great as well as the atmosphere and staff. A new favorite for my wife and I.

Oh my gosh! Such a good restaurant! The food, service, and beer were all great. A new favorite and I will definitely be going back. When you walk in the door you're greeted by a great atmosphere and a friendly server. Can't ask for a better beer haus.

When traffic absolutely blows and getting across the tunnel back to VB is an hour waste of time get off immediately and find the first bar for a drink! That's my advice and I took it tonight. The original plan was to hit up Marker 20 but after writing about Taphouse in The Weekly Yelp and seeing it just a few doors down I immediately had to stop in for a drink. Happy hour drinks are $1 off the listed price and in the interest of trying something new at a taphouse bar I decided to go local with an O'Connor Red Nun. Maybe it was the two beers I had at two previous bars (yeah so taking my own advice started in Newport News!) but two O'Connor drinks put me over for a solid buzz. This beer is a bit darker than what I prefer but I absolutely loved it. I like this place. You have your downstairs bar area with a few tables and upstairs is where all the music happenings take places (along with a few extra tables). I'll save dinner there for another night... Our bartender, BK, was an absolute doll and I walked away with two drinks and a buzz all for $10. And when we headed back to VB all the backed up traffic was gone. Damn, I'm good.

Want a cozy spot? Come here then. Taphouse is located near HU in the cutesy area of Downtown Hampton. Getting here may look a little scary with abandoned looking buildings but once you hit the telltale downtown look, you'll be alright. From the outside it doesn't look like much but you can tell its a chill spot from the rustic look. The chalkboard menu, damp lighting and crowded walls gives it an inviting atmosphere. For once, I cannot comment on parking because I really didn't see any except directly outside the establishment on the side...I hate side parking! And since I'm not familiar with the area I parked out pack a couple stones away. So enlighten me! I'm a sucker for beer, and the Taphouse has a pretty good list, even though they were out of a couple when I went. When we came in it was fairly empty, it was 6pmish and we were greeted warmly. We sat in a huge comfy booth while examing the dated ( in a good way) decor. I can honestly say customer service was great, the lady knew her job and recommend good beers...at least what they had in stock. The Long Island was good too, potent-just how I like it. I ordered fish tacos, which were very yummy. The pplace filled up once we settled in about 15 minutes llatter and it was a diverse crowd of young and old. Overall, I will go back if I'm in the area and want to go for a homely environment that The Pub at the coliseum just does not offer.

This bar's draft beer list is sweet - large and ever changing. One of the best selections in the area, with lots of local brewers and interesting beers from everywhere else. The atmosphere is comfy/casual, and pretty loud when there's a full house. Look for the "chandeliers"; it's a photo op waiting to happen. I haven't been there during a live show, but from all the flyers in the windows it looks like they keep it well-booked. The neighborhood is odd, in that there's new construction one block in any direction, but this part of Queen's Way looks like an old small town with limited parking. There are several restaurants and bars with live music in a very small two-block area. And Taphouse has quality food you don't really expect in a venue like this. I've enjoyed the "Spicy Beer-Braised Sausages with Dijon Pan Gravy on Red Roast Rosemary Potatoes", and they were so very flavorful (but maybe a little too spicy), and a large enough portion that I had to take some home. This time it was the "Ten-Dollar Meatloaf", which is encrusted with black pepper and served with a wonderful brown gravy and well-prepared "daily" veggies. (Not being much of a zucchini fan, you might expect me to be lukewarm in my praise there; but they really were very good.) The salads are large and tasty, and the burgers are big and juicy. (Tip: don't eat the rosemary sprig that appears on several dishes. Ack.) A glance at the menu leads you to thinking that everything's a little overpriced ($8-$17), but then you get the food - and you realize how great a value it is, for quantity and quality both. I swear, next time I'm getting the fried chicken livers appetizer. I keep seeing that there, and I keep talking myself out of spending the cash on apps (so I can try as many new beers as is reasonable). Maybe there's an ATM nearby...

Oh where to start. The location is wonderful and the interior bar area looks a lot like pubs in Europe. Warm and friendly. Good selection of food and beer. I just wish the server was a little bit more friendly. Either she was new or she is still learning the menu. We were the only folks sitting at a table for most of our time there. She made certain we knew she was the only server there and I wondered if we should go somewhere else. Overall not bad. Probably best not to go in the early afternoon though.

Great beer selection? Check. One dollar Bloody Mary's on Sunday? Check. Unique daily specials? Check. One of our favorite places to go in Hampton. We have yet to have a bad meal here. Everything comes out hot, fresh, and flavorful. My wife, daughter, and I make a weekly trip here on Sunday mornings for brunch. Make sure to get there early if you want to take part. While they don't open until 10:30am the line starts to form up around 10. Seems after the initial rush you best bet is to come in around 11:45/12 to hit the more lunch time crowd. Seating is only availble downstairs on Sundays. I think the best part about Taphouse though is, they are open everyday, rain or shine. Thats how we actually found them. During the hurricane in October of 2012 we lost power and needed some food. We ventured out to see what we could find and found that they were open. Have been regulars ever since. If you are in the area be sure to check them out.

Two years ago, this was a 5 star rating for me. Today it's a 2. I'll go into that below. Hoegarden in a 12 ounce pour...why? It's a weissbier with no exceptional alcohol content. I guess it's the "it's from Belgium so pour it small" mentality we're operating from. Noticed the higher ABV beers are higher priced for a smaller pour as well, marketing genius at work there, since in the past it's simply been based on cost and the pour has been, for the majority of the time in pint glasses historically. On to the food. It's in a word, ok. When we first started going to the Taphouse the food was always interesting, as we had the menu to explore, and it seemed like the daily specials always had something worth trying. The food has been in a continuous decline since then. I don't know if it's the owner's thinning talent pool with expansion to other restaurants or just a general decline in overall quality. Whatever it is, the food is no longer worth going there for, and with other restaurants in the area expanding their beer selections, that's not a driving reason either. An experience with the food that happened a few months ago for us: We'd ordered the cider mussels as a starter, something that we've been doing for years now. When they came out, they were good, but at least 8 of them hadn't opened in cooking. When we got our waitress over again (I know they're understaffed for the tables, especially at night, so service is rarely stellar) and asked if we could get some knocked off the cost since about 1/3 of the mussels hadn't opened, she offered to have them taken back to the kitchen and cooked some more to get them to open, something which is a big no-no with mussels. Commenting on that to her, she said it was ok, as they were flash frozen so didn't have that issue... Which was a surprise since I'd always thought the owner prided himself on using fresh ingredients. We haven't ordered mussels there since. So to summarize. The food is ok, but nothing exceptional, or even really good. The beer selection is nice, but the pours are weak at times, and the pricing is meh. There are better places in the area for both beer and food now.

Great beer selection. Food-well, its greasy bar food that will sit in your stomach all day long, allowing you not to be hungry for the rest of the day. Cheap prices is a plus. Only one bathroom. I would just come here to drink beer then walk around the VA Air and Space museum.

Very impressive tap beer list, a good menu, and fast friendly service (even when dining upstairs!) make this a great hangout

This place is 4 stars for Hampton. In other cities, it might be 3 stars. The Taphouse does have an excellent selection of beer. They had 3 varieties of Dogfish Head when I went which is awesome because I love Dogfish Head. The ambiance leaves a bit to be desired. It's kinda dark, a little dirtier than I'd like and is fairly small. They could make better use of the space. There is an upstairs seating area but it's even worse. I ordered a crabcake sandwich for my dinner on the recommendation of my waitress. It was okay. I probably should have gotten a burger. It was pretty busy that night so it was difficult to get the waitress' attention.

Food's not that great, but not too bad. Great selection of beer and other drinks, good service. It's nice that the stage for bands is upstairs so people that actually want to have a conversation can sit downstairs and enjoy themselves without having to scream at the person right next to them.

I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about. The place is small and loud, and the service is slow. It took me almost an hour and a half from the time I walked in the door until the time that I left. I was by myself and only ordered the Cuban with Fries. The waitress was slow, the kitchen was much slower, but the food was awesome. One of the best Cubans I'd had in a long time - and fresh. The fries were really good too. If the food quality were worse, I'd be rating it 1 - 2 stars for the lack of service and the lack of space. The decor was pretty cool, but it doesn't do any good to have good decorations with no service.

Went here for dinner and sat upstairs where the stage was. No band was playing, so it was pretty quiet. The beer selection was extensive and we ordered pub grub, which was very good. This place has a nice vibe and I only regret not making it out this way when I was living in Norfolk.

Rude wait staff and rather expensive beers. Not my place at all. Waitress threatened to throw my friend and I out for "excessive noise" when I couldn't hear her over the yelling from downstairs.

My favorite bar to visit when I'm in the Hampton/Newport News area. Amazing beer selection and good food...had the Woodchuck cider mussels last time I was here. Awesome. My buddy that was with me even enjoyed them and hes one of the pickiest eaters I know. The bar really has a great vibe to it...located along the cobblestone streets in old section of Hampton and the decor of the place is really cool (yes, I said decor...gay I know). I took my parents here after telling them about the extensive beer selection when they came down to visit me and my sister while we were at CNU. Now, everytime they are back in the area they stop by. This place has everything from cans of PBR to Belgian ales and all sorts of different people drinking here which makes it good to visit. In short - this place is definitely my ideal kind of bar. Wish I still lived down in the area so I could experience the beer specials they have during the week (Monday - Pint Night?).

Incredible beer selection and friendly staff. My wife and I have made a tradition of going to the Taphouse. 37 beers on tap with around a hundred bottles and new beers on tap almost every week mean you always have something new to taste. The outside may not look like much but the inside has a great atmosphere. Lots of old 1900's photos on the walls and an impressive antiqued bar. There is a bit of seating shortage sometimes if you come with a group, but it is definitely worth the wait. The food is also well beyond what you would expect. A solid menu during the week with a special Sunday brunch menu. They also have a lunch special menu just for the chefs to play around with. I've seen fun stuff like green eggs and lamb, or a east coast gumbo skillet that were amazing. They also have shows for local artists and an "Old Time Radio Show" at least once a month with a few artists and an in-studio audience listening in, sometimes with local crafters selling their wares. Absolutely one of the most special places in Hampton that I've had the pleasure to enjoy.

I went here for dinner on a weeknight. My burger (something with Jack cheese and jalapenos) was big and juicy, although slightly more pink that I had expected when ordering it well-done. The fries were crisp and not too salty. I asked for a side of barbeque sauce and it was a perfect dipping sauce for my fries. I don't drink, so I can't comment on their beers and such. Our server was friendly and not overly attentive. Cute decor, would come back again.

Always a great meal there - I've never been disappointed there. Wish there were a larger dining area. You can eat upstairs but sometimes the service is poor up there. Hands down the best beer list in the Peninsula. The best Hummus appetizer ever!

Went in for lunch on a Friday and they only had one waitress on staff. They also turned away several customers because they were full. I ordered clam chowder and was not clam chowder at all. It was like vegetable stock with onion, bacon, potatoes, and some clams. I got the fish and chips and the waitress never brought the vinegar she asked me if i wanted. The reason the restaurant was so full, i suspect, is because it took us an hour to get in and out. Otherwise, the food was pretty good and beer selection was great. I saw an advertisement for live music that night and thought I'd come back for some bluegrass. Apparently I misread the sign, but I called the restaurant that evening to inquire about the cover charge and whoever answered the phone hung up on me. Decent food overall, terrible service.

Their Biscuits and Sausage Gravy is to die for. That had to be said first. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu, really. Especially their brunch menu. The Bread Pudding French Toast is also pretty good and they aren't stingy on their Mimosas. We've gone for lunch and were pleasantly surprised but we keep going back for Sunday Brunch. Seating is first-come-first-serve and you may have to yell at your waitress for a refill, but the food is *top notch* for what looks to be a hipster hang-out dive bar.

Discovered this place last weekend for brunch. I am a huge fan of the tap house in Ghent, and I had no idea that this one was here! The first noticeable thing is they allow smoking at this establishment, and with the wife being pregnant, she was concerned. There was not ample seating, however, you can get a table if you are persistent. This also carries into my next point. They were obviously understaffed, and the place was crowded. If you don't mind the wait, the food was worth it. I had ordered the crab cakes Eggs Benedict, but ended up served the regular Eggs Benedict. My wife's order was correct. She ordered the biscuits and gravy special. It was A LOT of sausage and very little cream that you are accustomed too, but it was delicious! the Eggs Benedict was good, but one thing I will say ids that you are going to pay more here than at IHOP or Denny's. My breakfast (if ordered correctly) was $15 for the Crab Cakes Benedict. My wife's and what I was served was $10. The caveat is the Bloody Mary's were only a dollar! Again, I think if the place was staffed well that this would be a really great place. I will definitely go back for a second attempt at the crab cakes Benedict!

I should start by telling you about the beer...but that might take too long. There are so many choices that your head might spin...or was that the Aventinus. Can't say much about the meals because I prefer my meals served in pint glasses. Bring your curiosity and don't be afraid of the SamiChlaus...bring back the Sami

I have had better service before. One time the waitstaff lost a credit card and did not seem to concerned in finding it. Other than that the food is great. the secret to this place is the concerts hosted by yourmusicshow.net . and the portabello sandwich

Went here with three others during the Blackbeard Festival. There is a downstairs and an upstairs. The downstairs seemed to be mostly a bar area with some seating. It was very loud. We ate upstairs. Upstairs had a small stage and was all seating. Not as loud; we were able to have conversations very easily. Pretty large beer menu. Nice food menu as well. Options for vegetarians and vegans. The waitress was attentive; took our orders in a timely manner, re-filled waters, checked back several times to make sure we were ok. She brought the bill and took payment promptly. It did take a while for us to get our food, though. Since we were out with no time crunches and were enjoying ourselves, this wasn't a problem. If I needed to be somewhere afterwards at a particular time, I would probably go somewhere else, or show up very early. I had the portobello mushroom sandwich with french fries. The sandwich was so good! Seriously one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time! Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. I will definitely go back if I find myself back in Hampton!

Granted I've only been here once, but I really like this place. It has energy, it's spacious and it's got a classic bar feel. Walking in, it just has that vibe like the next hot band is about to move from obscurity to fame right before your eyes. I came for an amateur comedy show and had a great time. The bartenders were quick and friendly and the crowd was lively and almost as amusing as the talent on stage. It's one of the few places locally I've seen that advertises, even on special occasions, amateur comedy, so I was really excited and hope to see more.

If you are looking for breakfast for post-recovery from a night out if drinking, this is your place. They serve brunch with morning alcohol specials and greasy breakfast food. I ordered the popular breakfast burrito and feel I would've been better off had I just ordered the home fries only. They were much tastier. The staff wasn't friendly, maybe because I'm not from the area or maybe because I wasn't drinking. Either way, I was expecting more from this place than what I actually got.

The Taphouse Grill in downtown Hampton, VA is a great little spot that offers a huge selection of beers and a good variety of food. It's a popular location, and they could certainly benefit from more seating, but it still has a nice cozy feel to it. There's an upstairs area where larger groups go for dining, and the downstairs area is a mixture of the bar and dining. It's a little dim inside and the décor consists of dark tones, mahoganies, and the general feeling of hanging out in some cool basement converted into a bar. The staff is friendly and well educated on their food and beers. They offer somewhere around 200 beers and they mostly rotate through different brands throughout the year. Fortunately the staff is very good at making recommendations, and you can tell they care about their beers. For many, this is the main draw to the place. However, they also have a surprisingly good menu that offers common fare like burgers and sandwiches, and also a nice selection of seafood. I recommend the linguine and clam sauce. The sauce they prepare is white, a bit like alfredo but not as thick, and is very rich. Taphouse is definitely a very popular spot in the downtown area, and as a result it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. For barhopping purposes there's no real worry, but if you want to sit down to dine you want to try this place on a weeknight or an early weekend evening. Otherwise the place gets crowded, loud, and busy.

Taphouse in Hampton is a cool little spot that might be just a bit too cool and a bit too little for its own good. The place is certainly cool, what with an ever-changing array of beers on tap and an awesome staff who's passionate about beers and good at explaining them to you. Not to mention the stellar Sunday brunches and the overall quality of the menu. But it's a location that could definitely benefit from some more size. And therein lies the problem. Too often the place is overcrowded. The wait staff has problems getting to you, and the bar can be almost impossible to navigate. Still, catch Taphouse on the right night and it can be amazing. Come early if you want to really sit down and enjoy dinner. Come later if you're looking for a bit of downtown Hampton nightlife. Really a good time and an awesome crowd.

Pretty Legit. Pros: Great Vibe Wide Beer Selection Awesome drink specials Great Morning drinker friendly. Two dollar mamosas can't go wrong. Food is outstanding I've not run across anything that is not good on the menu. Negatives: If you go there a lot you will probably start to know everyone after awhile. Which is not that bad.

My friends recommended that I try Taphouse's brunch. My friend and I went. From the seating to the food. This place is not good at all. Taphouse is completely overpriced for what you getting. I ordered three eggs, grits, and bacon for $14.63, which is kind of ridiculous for simple food. The restaurant is dirty. I could see the inside of the kitchen from where I was seated. The first bar stool I sat on was quite wobbly. So, of course I tried to tolerate it until I thought I was about to fall off the edge of the Earth. Three bar stools later, I found one that was more sufficient. There was only two waiters for the entire restaurant. There was a lot of space that the restaurant is just not using. The food came and it was gross, submerged in cheese. I hope this review brings to light just some of the problems at this business.

I've only been to Taphouse once with a friend of mine last week and I have have to just mention that if you like different types of beer, you will love this place. The Colts and Jets were playing that night and I was surprised that it wasn't as packed as it should have been. I'm pretty new to the area and weekends are not that strong when it comes to people coming out of their caves and socializing. Service was good, very pro military meaning lots of guys boo! and did I mention downstairs you can watch on an ancient tube tv? Awesome! Well hope that helps. I ll be checking this place out again for the drinks and see if it earns another star.

This place is your standard bar and grill. Its location allows for a decent selection of seafood. I highly recommend the swordfish. The drink selection is also pretty impressive. Great place to get dinner if your visiting Hampton and probably loved by locals.

I did not like Beer before visiting Tap House. I started out with the Belgian Ales they offered on Tap and have steadily moved on to the dark and heavy beers. They have such a wide variety any pallet can be quenched. From Beer and Wine to Liquor, Ale, and Meads this bar has it all. Along with their enormous selection of drink Tap house offers quite an exquisite menu as well. Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, Entrees, Brunch options available on Sundays, and desserts all handmade by culinary experts. They even offer a few daily specials that are the chef's special creations and interpretations of popular dishes. If you are looking for a cozy atmosphere with staff that love to get to know you and go out of their way to make you comfortable and happy, Tap House is the place to visit.

Came here for a friend's going away. Normally this place would be too legit to quit but the lack of band deducts a star. Although there was not a band present, it is an excellent place to sit and have drinks with friends and/or date. It is quiet enough to have a conversation but loud enough where if you get a little loud, no one will notice. Drinks are a great price as well.

Every beer I tried started off with the aroma of vinegar. Not good, the appetizers were the only saving grace. Clean your beer lines!
