An 8 hour layover in Dulles Airport is not fun, but thankfully we were able to head out to a museum to kill some time. Upon returning to the airport and gettign past security and all that lark, we needed food. The options in Departure area C are limited, so to the Firken we went. They seemed to have plenty of staff, our server, while pleasant and attentive, had the most far-away/bored look on her face that I've ever seen. It amused me to some extent. So, as is so often the case in any airport, the prices were a bit high for the fare on offer. I had a "Firken Sunrise" cocktail which was pretty firken lame for the price they charged me. Why did I have a second one?! For a starter we shared "Irish Nachos" and wings. Potato waffles topped with sour cream, cheese and spring onion. The theory sounds ok, and if executed in a higher quality establishment might actaully be really food, but in this case they were just executed. Seriously greasy. The wings weren't actually too bad. I'd order them again. The "Firken Burger" was edible, I've had better, I've had worse. All and all with tip the bill came to 100 bucks for 4 drinks, 2 starters and 2 burgers. Wow. Hopefully I'll won't have to eat here again.

We ate here after an 11-hour, overnight bus ride from Boston. We were pretty hungry and just went for the first place we could find that was serving breakfast... The service was eh. The waitress was not very attentive - she was definitely paying more attention to the conversation with her friend than to us. They don't have Coke, only Pepsi. Boo. The Santa Fe salad though, was great. It was just what I wanted for brunch. The Breakfast Wrap was exactly what you'd expect - tasty, but not spectacular. The home fries were pretty good. We paid $30.17 for 2 meals and 1 OJ. That seems like a lot...

Mediocre breakfast with outstanding prices. $3.50 for a cruddy cup of coffee and $10 for a meh omelette. Would have been * but the bartender was nice.

You're going to pay airport prices of course, so value isn't great but my food was hot, fresh and tasty. Got sliders, fries, and a delicious pint. better than most airport food I encounter. Staff was working their butts off keeping everybody happy without acting like it.

Kind waitress, the food was about what you'd expect for a pub. It's a step above normal airport food and a step below a decent British pub. The buffalo chicken strips were a nice comfort meal. More than anything, this is a good place to kill time and enjoy the atmosphere. It beats having to sit in the airport chairs. Definitely ask for a booth.

Too expensive. Split fish n chips & two ice teas for $22. Would not let us buy slices of tomato & avocado on the side. No coleslaw available. Fish is ok. Would not recommend.

Had the BLT with Avocado plus iced tea for lunch. I thought they couldn't mess it up. My iced tea tasted fishy and my sandwich was bland. 20min. after eating it, I feel queasy. Now I'm about to hop on a plane. Oh great. I wonder where Pepto is sold around the terminal.

Waiting for my flight out to Vegas, I was excited to see that my gate was close to the Firkin and Fox. I have been to pubs in the Firkin chain and gotten generally good results. And I needed a good beer. So off I went to muscle my way to the typically crowded airport bar. Beer selection was a bit disappointing - mostly NASCAR beer and brand name national "microbrews" and imports. But they did offer a glimmer of hope with Dominion's Hop Mountain Pale Ale, which turned out to be the best beer I could find at any airport on this vacation. So far, so good. Unfortunately, my hunger began to betray me and against my better judgement, I ordered some food. I wanted to keep it light and I was suffering from a cold, so I asked what the soup selections were. Again, I should have exercised better judgement and not ordered the New England Clam Chowder. I know better to expect a fresh made chowder, but I've been around restaurants and food service long enough to know that there are some pre-made chowders that are pretty good. (I used to LOVE the clam chowder at Friendly's when I was a kid.) What I got instead was the most flavorless clam chowder ever. It wasn't even clam chowder ... it tasted like bland cream of potato soup with some clams tossed in at the end haphazardly. It was nearly inedible. Still, I will throw them 2 stars because other food items (liked the burgers) looked to be a bit better, and the beer was cold and tasty. I'd come here again ... but probably just for a beer.

Not sure what I can say about a restaurant at an airport, aside from the fact that I was fed and therefore wasn't AS angry as I would've been as the brat child sitting behind me kicked my seat. I had a crab cake sandwich here during a layover, and it was decent, but the service was a little lacking. Not that I expect great service at a place that's as busy as the airport itself, but still...

I had read many of the reviews posted here. The food is a bit pricy but ok. Like everyone has said it is not a high end place but one often doesn't find that in most airports anyway. The staff are very attentive. Thank goodness I was only drinking ice tea. :) Came here 2 days in a row due to an stay over from an overbooked flight. This is one of the better options for food at the airport. If you come during the slower hrs. it doesn't feel so cramped but rather a quant little pub.

  • Christina S.

I had some time at the airport, so I stopped in here to grab a bite. I sat at the bar by myself and ordered a coke and a bunless burger, which was supposed to come with a patty, avocado, and a salad. My waitress kept my drink filled the whole time, which was pretty awesome. My food came out quickly. The patty was a little smaller and drier than I would have liked, but the avocado was fresh and the salad was good. Overall, not a bad place to stop in for a bite.

Looks upscale for airport food on the exterior but food is poor. Shepherds pie was a bowl full of greasy ground beef. Steak was tough as shoe leather.

Just awful. Hubby and I had an unexpected four hour layover in DC and didn't know where to eat. This place had somewhat decent reviews so we decided to give it a shot. We really wished we hadn't. To begin with, it's tiny and cramped and laid out in such a way that one can barely get their carry-ons in, and you are forced the put them against the wall behind you if you sit at the bar because there is no space between the stools. Right off the bat, that made us uncomfortable. I ordered the Firkin burger; it was greasy, but at least edible. If you do go here, spring the extra two bucks for waffle fries: they were the only thing worth a crap that we were served. Hubby decided to try the fish and chips--it's an English pub, after all. But oh wow, they were nasty. Flat, thin pieces that were dry and just plain gross. Tasted so fishy we questioned whether it had not gone over. We sent that back and he decided to brave the crab cakes. $11 for two silver-dollar-sized cakes with a couple leaves and a smear of remoulade. They were burnt and so spicy as to be almost inedible. The center was gray and just...gross. I wasn't brave enough to try a bite, but hubby said they had a really weird aftertaste. If you're looking for a beer, maybe stop here, but I absolutely would not eat there. Just...gross.

OK ordering Calamari in an airport is a bad play, but this was Frikin' terrible. Having to ask for a check 3 times and a $8 Guinness ensures that his place is the worst. Beware...

After 4 cancelled flights from yesterday at my home airport and today my early morning flight was delayed for 4 hours , we finally made it on our flight heading to sunny San Diego. I was losing hope to some time off. Our connection was at Dulles international airport and we wanted to sit down for lunch. We decided on the Firkin and Fox. My partner and I ordered Cobb salad and it was delicious. Great big salad with fresh ingredients for $12.00 . Great salad for airport prices. There were chunks of grilled chicken, avocado, fresh greens , tomatoes etc ( see my picture of it). I would definitely come here again. We also ordered hot buffalo chicken wings for appetizer and they were great. Sorry I was hungry and didn't take a picture! My stomach was not thinking about taking a picture at this point in the day when meal time is here. Six pieces of wings deep fried then coated in buffalo sauce. After being lightly coated in sauce, the wings were still crispy. It was served with ranch dressing with 2 celery sticks and 2 carrot sticks. You bet I count them due to what my career entails and being a business owner. All in all I would come here again if future connection flights falls at Dulles. Until we meet again F& F. Ta! Ta!

This is quite possibly the worst execution I've seen in an airport bar. The space inside is quite small, as most like it are, but the movement of most of the servers was inconsiderate, blind, and erratic. The staff didn't seem to look where they were going, and were constantly bumping into the patrons, with no sorry's or excuse me's. The bar service took far too long, the drinks were way weak, and the bartender was not inviting to say the least. Unfortunately, this was the only bar I could find a stool at, so my options were nil. Next time I'm in Dulles Airport, I pray I'm in a different terminal, so I'm not forced into the Firkin and Fox patronage once again.

i'm going to make this very simple: skip it! yes, it is definitely convenient, probably not far from your gate. yes it does look cute from the outside. however, it's cramped (it's an airport, it would be nice to have my carry-on in close proximity), the service is all about getting you in and out, the prices are inflated airport-style and the food is mediocre at best. it basically sucks. if that wasn't enough... seriously, unless you hit this place when it's empty and order something safe, you won't have a very good experience. i'll spare you what we ordered, but will share what a neighbor had: the Cobb salad. that was a lot of food and looked decent. also if i was somehow forced to eat there again, i might try the soup. those are pretty hard to screw up! you're already on Yelp trying to find food, right? move along and find something to eat you won't regret. i saw there's a Chipotle somewhere in this airport and it doesn't inflate its prices. though i don't know where it is, it's probably worth investigating. just do yourself a favor and skip this Firkin place. it sucks.

I saved my receipt to write this review and I will never forget my waitress she was named Mastwal and she was very funny and amazingly good with people. She makes you laugh and have a great time, even when your stuck at the airport for 3 hours because your pilot is not able to be found. The service was very quick! We ordered Nachos with chicken and since there were so many toppings on it we asked the server if we could have every topping separate, in a small cup. She said no problem, and did what we asked. The nachos aren't the best but there were lots of toppings to make it taste good. Also we had some chicken tenders with fries and the fries were very tasty. Also the chicken was cooked well and it wasn't undercooked like what I was worried about. I mean you don't really expect that you will have good food at an airport. But this place does seem like it beat the odds. I enjoyed myself very well and had an awesome experience and I wish more servers were that entertaining!

The clam chowder was fairly tasteless. No accessible outlets for a long layover. Seems ok as a bar, but skip the meal.

  • Dan W.

Really deserve 3.5 stars but Yelp does not permit that. This is a notch above what i am used to at airports. My food was really good and it was brought to the table quickly. I really liked this place and will go again on some future travel date.

  • Stanley L.

You're better off eating before you get to the airport if you know you'll be in Terminal C. Nachos weren't that great, burger was average, and each beer I had had a really strange/off flavor.

I tried Firkin and Fox with some of my friends. They have a nice, classy and stylish decors. The service was also great. They waiter was very polite, friendly and helpful. The food was great! It's very flavorful. I was not expecting it to be that great. I also love that they have a full bar. Thanks Firkin and Fox for such a nice experience.

First time I was going there was of course when security lines were outrageous and I had to find something quick to eat for breakfast. I saw the Firkin and Fox and asked the guy if it was possible to get me breakfast in 15 minutes. He told me to go ahead and sit down and he'd be right back. 1 minute later I was ready and he took the order. I wanted something simple - just to hold me til I got to my destination because it was a long trip. I ordered the omelette and didn't care what was on the side. 10 minutes later I received my omelette and gave him a nice tip. The food was fine and it was 6AM. I had 20 minutes to get to my flight and actually made it right when they called my seating area which was perfect because I had a carryon and wasn't trying to check a bag. I'll keep this place in mind for future trips and hopefully I can enjoy the place instead of being rushed on a Monday morning.

Reviews were not as great, but not much choice for vegetarian in concourse C. Small sit in restaurant and bar, good wooden furniture, 3 tv'a on mute, 3 waiters at the bar were pleasant, attentive, helpful. I ordered their brunch omelettes, only 3 Choices that I can recall, they had no other veggies besides dice onions and cheese, but, the omelet and diced fried potatoes were excellent and satisfying. I had ordered their Dulles Bloody Mary which as good and as expected. They do have a black bean burger, would try nxt time. Overall good food, experience, cost me 25 w/ tips, which would not be unusual for DC and sit down restaurant.

Had a LONG layover, decided to hide out at the Firkin & Fox. Bad idea. The view out the window was cool, watching airport personel ride bikes throughout the run way areas, but the food was terrible. I had the fish & chips, and could barely finish it. Ugh. Do NOT order fish & chips. Stick with a burger. The beer and fries were the only thing satisfactory.

  • Mattie C.

Firkin and Fox is one of my go-to airport bars. Sometimes it is a little crowded for my taste, but during slower hours it is always pleasant sitting by the window and looking at planes. Food: standard pub fare, but always served fast. Drinks: insanely overpriced, what you would expect from an airport bar. This is a fun place to watch a sports game - I caught part of a critical world cup match here last year before a flight. People were cheering and excited and you almost forget you are in an airport. They pointed one of the TVs facing into the terminal so a huge crowd formed to watch. Fun! Good pub fare, TVs and fast service, for an airport bar this place is great.

A decent bloody mary in a terrible atmosphere in the world's scummiest airport. I noticed that breakfast service at the bar was very very fast.

Airport food... There were big signs recommending the hot wings so I got them... ehh. $10 and $2 extra for fries. Really nothing much to say about this place. And this place definitely should not be charging 18% gratuity for six or more. Minus one star.

We stumbled off blurry eyed off the plane and right into Firkin & Fox. I wasn't terribly hungry but my friend had a hankering for breakfast. FIrkin & Fox kind of got me at the beautiful velvet red seating booths and the English pub flair. Until 11AM, Firkin & Fox only serves items off their brunch menu. There are about 7 things to choose from, 2 of which are drinks. We split a breakfast platter ($10) and an denver omelet ($8?). Both comes with a huge serving of crispy potato hash...very good. I love potato hash! The omelet had too much onion but wasn't bad. The breakfast platter is pretty standard - toast, eggs, sausage. We splurged on getting Irish coffee (coffee with Irish whiskey and cream). Didn't even finish 20% of it since the coffee was rather weak The rest of the menu contains standard fare - fish & chips, burgers, salads etc.

I had a 1 hour layover, and I had to get grub in my stomach. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and before I knew it, my order was in my face. Super fast service. The steak and gravy were tasty and satisfying, but the whipped potatoes were obviously made from a box of powdered potatoes, and since there was only enough gravy for the steak, the potatoes were left untouched by me.

Came here during a layover from LAX to SJU. It is a pub and one of their specialties is Fish and Chips...very typical. Since I don't eat meat fish and chips it was. Unfortunately, it was suck a slim cut of fish and mostly batter and the outer edges were a bit hard. There were two fairly large pieces but I would have preferred one piece with double the thickness of fish. The service was good though. I would give it a 3 star but being that they messed up on a basic item on a pub menu...that's just bad.

We had several hours to kill at Dulles International Airport, concourse C, and wanted a place to get away from the crowds and loudness of the airport for a meal. We decided on Firkin and Fox almost solely because it had booths, and this option looked more comfortable than the stool and table option that pretty much every place else was offering. After about a 5 minute wait for a booth, we were seated. The restaurant itself is fun, comfortable, and the staff is friendly and fairly helpful. You can expect to find your average sub par English / American type pub fair. We ordered the calamari with dipping sauce which was alright. I would give it about 4 out of 10 as far as calamari goes. I decided on the bun-less burger with avocado. This turned out to be a beef patty with half an avocado slide on top of it. My girlfriend ordered a chicken sandwich I believe, and it was also sub par with about half an avocado on it as well. We left full but not satisfied. We enjoyed their beer selection, and had a good time overall and might return in the future for a beer and an appetizer. I can't say much for the meals except that our meals were free (courtesy of United Airlines) which made it a little better. I've been to Dulles many times, and I believe that the options in Concourse A and B are MUCH, MUCH better than C. If you have the time to catch the train to another concourse, do it.

I had a late breakfast in the F&F - I've been in here before a couple of times - for food and ale. This morning I had the Breakfast Wrap - scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, cheese, guacamole, and salsa, in a wrap, with a side of hash browns. It was pretty good - I wish they had put more bacon and guacamole in it - and maybe a little less egg. It was more food than I could eat - I left some of the wrap and some of the potatoes (I'm trying to become more self aware about eating when I detect certain signs - it's time to stop eating - something I am learning from Weight Watchers). The place was empty when I first arrived. I was buried in my MacBook Pro - when I looked up when it was time to leave - the place was packed! My server was attentive and very efficient!

File this one under "MV" (moron vendors) for thinking that a contract with a Budweiser distributor is qualification enough to be a "taproom". What a joke. Also, the whole "UK in US" facade is a tired theme.

This restaurant blares a horrid, ear-splitting hip hop soundtrack that absolutely ruins the atmosphere. And the clam chowder and french fries are insanely salty. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else!

  • Don G.

Airport food, 'nuff said. I won't disappoint my following... the decor was tasteful, menu had plenty of options, but I can't bring myself to eat bangers and mash at an airport pub. It gets three stars for the good service and making sure my beer never got too low. Tip of the cap for that!

    (3)

One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The wait staff is great, funny and attentive. It is an airport eatery, but it is one of the better ones.

If your flight is running late and you are just looking for some pub grub and a brew before hopping your plane, this place isn't half bad. It can get pretty packed, so if there is a waiting line, you should prob head down the terminal to Gordon Biersch. The eating areas are pretty small, so expect to bump elbows with your neighbors. And, as with any airport restaurant/bar, there will always be that incredibly annoying, incredibly loud a-hole on the phone. The sports bar tvs will never be able to drown out "that guy". And, rather than packing all those people in, it would be nice to have a little space for your luggage. Food-wise, I've had the bangers and mash (surprisingly missing from the menu when I went in recently) and it was pretty good. The potatoes are extremely bland, so ask for extra butter. Recently I had the wings. Eh, nothing special, but their dill dipping sauce is fantastic. Their beer is overpriced (just like every other airport restaurant/bar). But, you can upgrade to a large beer for just a buck. I will probably find myself back here when flying out of this terminal. I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid it. Not my fav, but not bad.

What? An Irish pub with no Rugby on TV! So I called the restaurant to ask if they would screen the rugby game. "Sorry señor, de manager, he comes in at 12:30". Based on this I won't bother walking from concourse D to C, besides the food and service reviews on Yelp confirm there is no reason to eat here. You guys just lost out on 4 meals!!!!

I was here on a layover from MSY to PVD. I wish I had the time to try the food, but let's be honest, I needed to spend the time getting as many drinks down before I boarded my connecting flight. The weather was nasty and I'm not a great flier, don't judge. The setup of this bar is definitely strange and unlike the dozens of airport bars that I have been to. There were few seats at the bar, and I was stuck in a corner of the bar in an awkward spot. This did not bother me as my dear friend the bartender kept my Yuenglings coming. As a Bloody Mary lover and nationwide expert on the beverage, the Firkin has one of the best airport bloodies I have ever tasted. Absolutely worth the $9.95. Also, this place seemed cheaper than most airport establishments I have ever been to. I'm going to have to start making sure my layovers have a stop in IAD...what's better than a good bloody and Yuengling? nothing!

Airport bars aren't exactly my favorite dives to hang out in, but when you're going to be flying for hours on end, it doesn't hurt to to primed for the occasion. The Firkin and Fox os probably one o the better bars to go to seating wise, etc compared to the Tidewater. I think the prices are a little bit better, but that still doesn't say much. Never the less....if you must partake.... This is a good place. *Think of it as a really shrunken down "Fox N Hound" type place

$12 for burger, fries and small soda. Have stopped twice and in each case felt pressured to order, eat and get the ^%$ out the door. Nothing special. Would have done better at Burger King.

looked like a place that had real potential but the food was disappointing. I had the Black Bean Burger and the patty was rock hard around the edges. it came with a modest portion of fries and was $12. should have walked a little further to a better dinner option.

Apparently, I'm the only person who liked this place. After a very long day trying to get from LAX to London, we finally got to Dulles and found ourselves in for a long wait until our flight to LHR. We popped in, wanting to get out of the crowded gate areas and have a nice, normal dinner. Fully expecting mediocre airport pub food, we were pretty pleased when we bit into our food. I had the avocado bacon burger. Being from California, I was expecting avocado slices. Remembering that avocados were like $5 a pop in Virginia, I could understand why there was a small dollop of avocado mush on my burger. That said, the burger was delish. Absolutely charbroiled. You could taste the grill marks on the beef. Yummers. The fries were thick and crunchy. Portions were ginormous. My friend had the buffalo wings and said they were really good. Neither of us could finish the fries and we're not the type to not finish our fries. Was nice to feel like we weren't in an airport for a couple of hours. Even better to actually enjoy our meal.

I have been going to this place for 5 years - they are super fast, extremely attentive (always stop by to stay Hi) and cheerful. Bunless burger is great with 1/2 avocado is awesome. Calamari gets good reviews. It's a real safe haven in the airport.

  • Rene B.

Overpriced drinks. Food was OK. But you're at an airport. Still, the staff were pushy about getting me served drinks or getting me out of their restaurant. Music had sexually explicit lyrics, which I mentioned to the waiter, who was dumbfounded I would even mention this.

    (2)
  • Mike L.

A little better service than expected at an airport restaurant. They had the World Cup on when we were there and had a great time. I didn't have any problems with the food and is pretty much what you would expect. Better than the other restaurants.

Wow, how can a place make a good burger but is so incredibly BAD for all the other dishes. How cheap do you have to be to use PROCESSED beef slices in a beef dip sandwich!?! Not going there anymore...

  • Stephan C.

Friendly, helpful wait-staff, but the burger -- my first since leaving the United States three months previous -- was not enough to make me miss all the borsch, sour cream, and fried meat I'd been eating in Russia since leaving. Tasteless, fat fries did little to elevate the meal above the point of gastric distress.

This was, after getting motion sick, missing my flight, and spending about 10 hours in the Dulles airport, where I finally decided maybe I could hold some food down. I ordered the vegetable spring rolls. Most everyone around me was drinking, and their drinks seemed fancy and good pickin's for airport booze. The spring rolls were really good, and I could keep them down, so thanks for that. I could only eat half, and a couple hours later, I was sad and wished I could go back and ask for the other half. In an interesting note, this is marketed and styled as a British pub, with Firkin being a British word for volume measurement, typically a quarter barrel of beer. Ironically, this airport "pub" was entirely staffed by Asian women. They were great servers though, and kept the water coming, which I so desperately needed.

And here I thought I'd nab a first. . . . Firkin and Fox appears to be the English equivalent of TGIFriday's. I should know ( yelp.com/biz/vfQoytdUOc7… ). Thank you F&F for saving me from having to walk all the way to Concourse C while I waited for my delayed flight ($#%^!). I had a greek salad with chicken and was very pleasantly surprised! Bummer it comes in a tiny little plastic bowl with no room for digging. I was flinging feta and lettuce all over my little 8 inch wide bar. Obviously they come premade and then they cook the chicken on site and dump it on top. But I was preparing myself for dry, overcooked chicken and wilty greens. What I got was deliciously seasoned, moist and tender (and hot!) chicken, and a very yummy salad with an obscene amount of feta and onions. Finding a piece of lettuce was a huge triumph - I had to stop myself from crying out "Eureka!" each time it happened. Tastewise it was much better than I expected, and for that I was grateful. However - you may want to ask for your dressing on the side unless you're in the mood for greek salad soup. Or rather, feta and onion and vinaigrette soup. I'm guessing the staff pool their tips since I had at least four people come by and check on me and bring me things. Service was fast and friendly, and the food decent. What else can you ask for in airport cuisine?

Made the trek from B gates all the way to this place. I like the concept and the service, but food quality needs some work. Fish and chips had off-taste from oil, which tasted like it was old. Mac n cheese was good though, plenty of creamy cheese sauce, kids enjoyed it

Waiting for plane in A Terminal...."it is what it is" for an Airport bar I guess... Nothing extremely bad and nothing extremely good... Staff was in a hurry... But they were nice... Ordered a beer and Chicken Tenders to be safe... Got the job done... OK... Forgot... Bar Flies.... -minus a STAR...

Ordered the Irish nachos, described on the menu as "seasoned waffle fries with melted cheese, bacon, green onions, and sour cream". What we got were waffle fries with melted cheese slathered in Ba-cos. Yes, Ba-cos, i.e. the Betty Crocker bacon-flavored bits of defatted soy flour and partially hydrogenated soybean oil; NOT actual bacon. I don't believe the ' melted cheese' ever existed in anything but liquid form either. Horrible processed stuff. To top it off, they had run out of green onions and sour cream, which made for a pretty miserable and salty dish. The drinks were not as bad, but if my margarita had any alcohol in it, you certainly couldn't taste any hint of it. Would not come back unless desperate.

When traveling it is hard to find good food at airports, but there are places like this that kill time and have better food then McDonalds. While the wings were not the best I have had, there were the best I have had at and airport. If you have time to kill, not a bad place to do it.

Not often I feel inspired to write a review while still in the restaurant. Do not eat here. This is a pub and fish & chip is the worst. They fooled me with a good size piece of fish. One bite and I knew it wasn't going to be good. Underneath the greasy exterior is this goo that coats the fish. It's like fluff to make the fish look more substantive. Peeling/scraping away the goo, the thin piece of whatever tasted like it has been dead for years. All kind of weird taste that you do not want in fish. Yuck. And, the entire time not once did they offer to refill my empty diet Pepsi. The only reason I didn't ask for a refill was because that tasted awful too. Firkin Fox, my sentiments exactly!

My fiancé and I had our first airport meal together ever at Firkin and Fox. It was our first time at an airport together (and flying together) and we decided to celebrate with some drinks and quick dinner. There aren't many choices at Dulles airport, so we didn't let the 2.5 star rating of this restaurant affect our desire to eat here too much. I did, however, order something fried and completely cooked. Drinks - my fiancé got a beer, while I got a Pomegranatini (vodka and pomegranate liqueur shaken with lemonade). Food - my fiancé got the guacamole bacon burger and I got the fried chicken tenders and fries. Overall decent experience, but nothing spectacular. A good choice for airport food.

I can't say as that I ever expect too much from airport food, and The Firkin & Fox is pretty much par for the course. I had an omelet ($10), a Strong Bow ($8), and additional sausage at $ 1 per link. Everything was fairly basic and the service was friendly, but I was struck by the fact that all the drafts, including Millet Lite, $8 flat. In fact, every price on the menu seemed to be either $8 or $12 with the $10 omelet the exception to the rule.

Nice staff, or this would have been one star. Nasty food. Nasty! Cheeze whiz on French fries are not Irish nachos. Beer choices are weak. Won't be back!!

The Firkin & Fox is in gate A 1-6 are of Dulles International Airport. I've eaten MUCH worse food in an airport. The beer is cold and 20 oz. It is pricey, but supply and demand at an airport. My father and I both had fish and chips. They were great! No lie, GREAT. I've had much worse at restaurants that are not in airports and are much nicer. Nice staff. Quick and easy! I fly out of this terminal a couple times a year, and I will definitely return.

Beside being a minuscule restaurant they sorely offer much more than they can give. Ordered the special steak with fries ($14.99) Steak was shoe leather and even the waitress apologized and got me another one. Unfortunately, while the new steak was not over cooked it was so fatty it was inedible. Fries were mediocre too...how can you mess up fries? The waitress said salad did not come with the steak so I ordered one ($8). Well it came out with the shoe leather and it was tastless. Ironically, the steak came with lettuce and tomato with salad dressing yet the waitress said it was not a salad? Weird, hey. Better choice would be COSI across the way. In a positive nite waitress was trying to be helpful and they did send a second steak.

I will stick to my Apple. Listed as an American Pub .. I suppose the original poster just chose to ignore the British theme of the establishment. The seating was not abundant and during the heavier travel you'll have to wait for some time. Management would do well to start addressing the ruder patrons. If so, they could get more people accommodated in the tiny bar and grill especially for those who think their luggage is a dining partner and promptly hog extra seats for briefcases an roller boards. Food was so-so, beer was good, waitresses were abrupt, over worked, and not terribly friendly.

Big servings. My roast beef dip came with a large pile of room temp limp fries ( yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… ) The beef was dry. Not much horseradish. The "baguette" was a generic untoasted roll was like those Safeway deli rolls that I find to be sponge-y. The breakfast platter ( yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… ) was better with fries that were actually hot! The sunnyside up eggs were a little underdone even for the g/f's standards with the whites not fully set yet.

Incredibly unimpressive. It's an airport bar, which already puts the bar quite low. The place is very tight and passengers often have their bags occupying adjacent seats and the narrow alleyways. I told the hostess that my flight was boarding in twenty minutes and that I would have to be pretty quick to order and to get my food. She told me that it should be ample time. I sat down at a counter, reviewed the menu and after 5-10 minutes of no waitress coming to see me had to leave without ordering. Several times the waitress walked by without really acknowledging that I was there and clearly not taken care of. I wound up just being hungry on my flight.

I attempted to dine at this restaurant only because it was the sole restaurant in the United terminal. I approached the sign that said "please wait to be seated" and I waited to be seated and waited and waited and waited. Finally I asked one of the waiters if I can have a table. The waiter looks at me with a blank stare and I yelled something like "HEY CAN I HAVE A TABLE OR NOT?" The not-friendly waiter begrudgingly seated me and them said something along the lines of "just to let you know, the goo is down". I said what? He said "the gill is down." I asked what the gill is and why it's down. He responded "the gill is down, the gill is not working, you can't have any chicken, hamburger, any cooked food." Without saying anything, I walked out and left. I came back 15 minutes later and saw people who were eating chicken and hamburgers. Fuck

This is THE WORST airport bar/restaurant...and somehow I've managed to eat here twice. It is not geometrically possible to fit additional seats in this space and they would use a crowbar to squeeze you if they could. The service relentlessly pushes additional drinks and food. I was asked by four different people if I wanted another beer in rapid succession. One of them twice. Each time I declined, they were visibly disgusted. I half expected one of them to throw their hands up in frustration and shout, "You're killin' me Smalls!" I wasn't even sitting there eating up space, I was finishing my meal. Save yourself. By some pretzels at the newsstand.

Really good food, especially for an airport. Drinks are reasonable and kept me happy while I waited for my flight. The wraps and sandwiches are recommended. Even the fries were surprisingly good. I could blame this misstep on the effects of a 10-hour layover, but no, it was my own bad call. Should have checked Yelp first, doh! My husband and I had two priorities in mind: sustenance and rest (or a place to sit, a least). The Firkin and Fox had these items covered -- and little else. The pub concept was an interesting change of pace (given the venue), but the food didn't really pass muster. We both ordered the chicken fried steak, and well, basically when Denny's can outclass you in anything, you know you've failed. Service was beyond lackluster. No hellos, no water refills, just a bill. We paid with cash and our waitress seriously attempted to make off with a 40% tip (I asked for change twice and it wasn't as if the joint was really hopping at 6 a.m.)! The next time I'm desperate for a glorified grease-fest on my next layover, I'll just stick to Dunkin' Donuts.

There aren't very many options at Dulles Airport... The Firkin and Fox was near our gate so we figured that we would give it a try. We got a the bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato sandwich that came with fries. It was pretty good and very simple... anyone could make this at home but it was fresh so we were pretty happy. We also got the chicken caesar salad. It was fine but the chicken wasn't good and tasted kinda rubbery. I usually just ask them to not include the chicken so I don't waste it but my mom really wanted it... she regretted that choice after the first bite... We ended the meal with some bread pudding with was pretty good. It was warm, soft, and gooey, just how I like it! Obviously, in an airport it's not going to be that great but the waitress was kind and it was a good place to sit and wait for boarding.

  • Shari S.

For an airport location, they aren't half bad. We had a Firkin restaurant near where we lived (which has since closed), and the food is similar to what we had experienced there. Very small & crowded, but that's to be expected in an airport. The bar seemed to be where the (drunk) action was. I'm glad I didn't end up on a plane with any of those people afterwards!

The restaurant was one of the few in Terminal C that offered sit-down dining and after a 9 hour flight and then a 5 hour layover we were ready for a nice meal. Unfortunately, this isn't the place for a nice meal. I have no idea how it's possible to slice bacon as thin as the single slice included in the Breakfast Platter. The "home fries" were tasteless and the tomato slice was a lovely shade of white. At least our server was attentive and pleasant. All in all, avoid this place.

OMG bad!! Eat the cold sandwich on the plane and have better tasting food. Mystery meat returns, when I got out of the Marines I though I would never suffer through it again. Now I know where they send what the Marines won't eat. The staff is not pleasant, from the greater that says nothing but points the the servers bickering between themselves. Do yourself a favor and walk a little further and try something else. AVOID, AVIOD, AVOID as bad as it gets!

Loved this place. I don't know why so many people have a rated this low. While everyone was closed this restaurant wAs open and supper kind . Customer service is amazing. Good fast and yummy. Loved the atmosphere the red and black. Old Hollywood theme to it. I would definitely recommended we had a burger and clam chowder soup. The only thing I would say is the fries were a bit cold didn't taste so good.

Really deserves 3.5 stars, as Firkin and Fox is a titch better than most airport restaurants. Just a titch. Since two other reviewers also said they wanted to give an extra half star but Yelp wouldn't allow it, I can bump my rating up to four stars to help even it out. There, the planets are realigned. I almost ordered the bangers and mash, but something told me I'd need the iron to fortify me for a long flight ahead to SFO, so I got the bunless burger plate. It was actually pretty good! I mean, it tasted like a good-quality beef patty that hadn't been frozen, and was grilled to order. The salad and fixiings were also decent, especially the half avo that topped it. Shocked, titillated, and giddy from that success, I proceeded to order the bread pudding, on the principle that I must be on a winning streak: it was gooey, just rich enough without being gratuitous, and tasty; a nice finish to an otherwise healthy, gluten-free meal. I know, I'm a howling hypocrite -- he whole point of the bunless burger was to avoid gluten after all -- but unexpected flavorsomeness made me reckless. The atmosphere was nicely dark and pub-like, but I'm not a beer drinker, so I can't comment on the real reason for The Firkin and Fox's existence. If it helps, though, the place was pleasantly busy for a late Tuesday afternoon, and the many beer-swillers seemed content. A good sign. I forgot to ask if they served their beer authentically room temp or Americanized-chilled. My servers were nonetheless attentive and pleasant, and it was a half hour well spent before being plied with "snack boxes" and United's excuse for burgers while being held captive for six hours aboard their craft. Never found out what a Firkin is, though....

Pretty bad. I could have made the Avocado BLT myself using real, thick cut bacon instead of the paper-thin Oscar Meyer MICROWAVE BACON that was on my craptastic sandwich. Thin fake wheat bread, tons of mayo and shredded iceberg bagged lettuce. Lucky for them I am tired and hungry and have to rush to eat before my connecting flight. So disappointing for $12 and such a simplistic sandwich. The fries were no doubt reheated. Just awful. At least the waitress was really nice. That's why they get ONE STAR.

I cannot believe this place. It is horrible. They rip u off. DO NOT GO THERE. barman gave lovely service and then after providing our bill we realized that we were charged for items we DID NOR SHOULD NOT be charged for. They would not discuss their mistakes and we ended up paying nearly $100 for crap that wasn't ours???? We asked to speak to manager and he refused to come out of his hiding spot. ??? Weird as??? So Be warned - the place is unethical I also felt that the chicken curry was off. & I've been vomiting since Waitress service was nonexistent. Everyone working there had soooo much trouble understanding English Forget this place. GO TO COSI across the road. They are decent honest ethical people. Unlike all the dodgy workers in flickers Now I know why all that work at the gates say. DONT GO TO FRICKENS

Why 3 stars? Because this is standard airport fare. --- --- --- Ok, I lied. This is slightly above standard, but without a .5 star capability, I'm handcuffed to a 3-star rating. I enjoyed my burger. It was quick, and had a good flavor to it. Nothing else stood out, but whatareyagonnado? It's the airport. Yes, that's all one word. Look it up. IN A BOOK!

As the guy at the table next to us said to his companion, "For airport food, this is about as good as it gets." My wife & I dined around 8PM on a Thursday. Place was nearly full, but service was prompt. My wife enjoyed her BLT. I REALLY liked my Shepherd's Pie--comfort food, so hot I could hardly eat it at first (I like that!); included salad was fresh & tasty, with crisp croutons. They have SWEET ice tea, too. British pub theme is a nice break from chrome & gray modern airport decor.

Staff was great; super friendly. Food was okay for an airport. I was lucky to go during a non-busy time (during flight delay) and had sausages, mash, and beans. I can't really say there was anything authentically "english" about this "english-style" pub other than selling Magners and Guiness, but it will definitely tide you over til your flight. Better than McDonalds if you have the chance, so stop by for a pint when you're holed up in Dulles.

Wish I could give no star. I ordered a cosmo and asked them to hold lime and they made me look stupid saying they don't add lime to drink even though it's in menu as so. I asked if alcohol was premium in the drink as I have allergies and don't like rail. The asian/Hispanic bartender didn't understand proper English and shook head yes to the question if the alcohol was premium. He used burnedetts vodka and rail triple to make the drink. Not premium and he lied! I promptly asked for the liquors he used and he had no idea the makers names of the liquors he placed in the drink! Terrible bartender! I didn't drink it yet was still told to paid. So i paid and left un touched drink on table. Worst experience in dulles.

Ok if you are in Terminal C and want to actually sit down for a while and relax while you wait for your flight. They open early (I was there at 6:30am), serve breakfast until 11am (the omelette with home fries was good), and I overheard a customer say "this is the best Bloody Mary I've ever had", so you might as well try it. My server, Hana G, was great.

Don't even get me started on the prolonged and frustrating voyage I've had (and it's only half way through) but getting food in my belly was definitely necessary and helpful. I sat down at the Firkin because it was lush black and red and in the world of airports, anything that isn't beige and neutral blue and sterile is a welcome respite. Plus there wasn't a television blaring or tons of businessmen colonizing the space. It gets cramped, like every airport restaurant does, but you can sit and look out the window which is nice. The service was too darn attentive - every second they checked in on me, even interrupting me on several occasions while I was obviously deep in work. Thank you but seriously I'M GOOD. I was satisfied with the Santa Fe salad and its tender spiced chicken and fresh vegetables. They were too liberal with the dressing (which was more like a straight ranch than anything 'southwest') so if you like your salads a little less drenched in cream, get the dressing on the side. Oh, and besides the attempt at decor and menu items, there is not a thing Brit inspired about this - I guess that's a breath of fresh air from overly-themed restaurants but could also lead one to ask, why do it at all?

We ate there while waiting for a flight. I had the Cobb salad and my boyfriend had fish tacos. The food was just okay. Also don't be fooled by the word bacon on the menu. It must have been a typo. Bright red bacos!

Stopped here for breakfast while waiting for my flight. I like the look and feel of the place. It's a British style pub, with comfortable booths and pictures of 19th century places, style of dress and sales adds. It was early and I had the all day breakfast. 2 eggs(over medium), link sausage, bacon, toast, cubed potatoes and slice of tomato. If it had a scoop of beans it would be authentically British. It's hard to mess up that kind of breakfast, so I can say it was pretty good. Generous helpings that I couldn't finish. Cost was around $11. An Irish coffee with (probably more than the required amount of alcohol) with endless whipped cream was another $11. The service wasn't bad, our server would drop by to check if we needed anything at frequent intervals. It's a great place to stop by if you want to sit, relax and watch TV while you wait for your flight.

Waitstaff: Standing around making small talk. The waiter disappeared mid-meal. After a long interval a new one showed up. The order was incorrect. Food: Nothing special. Stick with fries and a burger if you must. Drinks: There was a gnat in my wine. Cleanliness: The floors were filthy.

You wouldn't know it, but this is a remote outpost of a small chain of British pubs. There are about 4 or 5 other locations in the US. Anyway, it's usually refreshing to find an (almost) independent offering in an airport. And sometimes it's better to find a Chili's. The F&F does their best to make it not seem that you're in such a busy place, but there's only so much they can do. While offerings like shepherds pie, bangers and mashed, and fish and chips are a welcome alternative to another burger or plate of chicken fingers (but they have that, too), this isn't a place I'd seek out outside the airport. My chips were soggy fries and the fish were two identically shaped breaded, not battered hunks that didn't have a good time in the freezer. The dude eating the shepherds pie next to me didn't seem like he was digging into that hearty, feel-good calorie bomb that it should be. It looked pretty bad. Bullocks! Service at the bar was quick and friendly, and they do have that power strip at the bar that's there for the taking. For that, they've got a leg up on most airport Chilis. Cheers!

The food was great but the service needs to be trained. The hostess Doris does not speak to you on a form. Places the menu on the table and walks away. Our server Salina basically just brought us our food served us our check before even asking if I wanted dessert, then I said I wanted the cheesecake. The cheesecake came with raspberry syrup all of over. I said I didn't like raspberry and the menu did not say the cheesecake was with the syrup. She did not off to replace it or anything.

Giving this a 4 because it IS an airport pub/restaurant. Staff are fast and responsive. I had the Cobb salad snd was tasty with fresh greens and spicy chicken. Beer was cold. My husband's French dip in a baguette actually came on a hamburger bun so was much smaller and different than expected. Overall pleased. Would eat her again on a layover.

It's about what you'd expect from mediocre pub fare in an airport. A bit cramped if you've got lots of bags, but the food is it's about as good as it gets in terminal C.

After eating jamon Iberico and tapas for 3 weeks, I just wanted beef but sadly, there aren't any steak restaurants in IAD. So, I ordered a roast beef sammie from The Firkin and Fox. The sammie came with au jus and fries. Honestly, the sammie itself was juicy enough so, I dind't need the au jus. The place was packed. I sat on a bar stool and shared a small counter space with others. The food was good but nothing special. However, the service was terrific! The servers and managers were very attentive.

Very small & crowded, but that's to be expected in an airport. The bar seemed to be where the (drunk) action was. I'm glad I didn't end up on a plane with any of those people afterwards!

General pub fare. Not bad while waiting for flight at IAD. Nice bar. Good selection of beers and drinks. Enjoyed the sweetened iced tea and fish and chips.

Look it up. IN A BOOK!

Food is terrible. Fish and chips are like cardboard.... No wait it was cardboard. The waitress was disengaged, never asked if everything was okay or how was my experience. She never said "thank you" Avoid this place like Ebola.

Airport bar complete with bar flies. The food that I had was an over cooked burger. You will most likely not be impressed here unless you were in prison for ten years. Stop in for a drink or two before your flight, pay and leave. It's about all I can recommend here

The burger was hot, juicy and served fast. It was also expensive and unusually sweet. A burger with chipotle dressing is not supposed to be sweet. Move on. 2013 #155 / 365

It's an English pub! They call sticky toffee bread pudding here. Its airport food. Can't expect much. Guess most people come here to drink the beer. I had the bunless burger with caesar salad. Its fairly crowded.

You're going to pay airport prices of course, so value isn't great but my food was hot, fresh and tasty. Got sliders, fries, and a delicious pint. better than most airport food I encounter. Staff was working their butts off keeping everybody happy without acting like it.

  • Diana B.

    (4)

Ta! Ta!

i'm going to make this very simple: skip it! yes, it is definitely convenient, probably not far from your gate. yes it does look cute from the outside. however, it's cramped (it's an airport, it would be nice to have my carry-on in close proximity), the service is all about getting you in and out, the prices are inflated airport-style and the food is mediocre at best. it basically sucks. if that wasn't enough... seriously, unless you hit this place when it's empty and order something safe, you won't have a very good experience. i'll spare you what we ordered, but will share what a neighbor had: the Cobb salad. that was a lot of food and looked decent. also if i was somehow forced to eat there again, i might try the soup. those are pretty hard to screw up! you're already on Yelp trying to find food, right? move along and find something to eat you won't regret. i saw there's a Chipotle somewhere in this airport and it doesn't inflate its prices. though i don't know where it is, it's probably worth investigating. just do yourself a favor and skip this Firkin place.

Really deserve 3.5 stars but Yelp does not permit that. This is a notch above what i am used to at airports. My food was really good and it was brought to the table quickly. I really liked this place and will go again on some future travel date.

Airport food, 'nuff said. I won't disappoint my following... the decor was tasteful, menu had plenty of options, but I can't bring myself to eat bangers and mash at an airport pub. It gets three stars for the good service and making sure my beer never got too low. Tip of the cap for that!

One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The wait staff is great, funny and attentive. It is an airport eatery, but it is one of the better ones.

Even better to actually enjoy our meal.

looked like a place that had real potential but the food was disappointing. I had the Black Bean Burger and the patty was rock hard around the edges. it came with a modest portion of fries and was $12. should have walked a little further to a better dinner option.

I have been going to this place for 5 years - they are super fast, extremely attentive (always stop by to stay Hi) and cheerful. Bunless burger is great with 1/2 avocado is awesome. Calamari gets good reviews. It's a real safe haven in the airport.

Overpriced drinks. Food was OK. But you're at an airport. Still, the staff were pushy about getting me served drinks or getting me out of their restaurant. Music had sexually explicit lyrics, which I mentioned to the waiter, who was dumbfounded I would even mention this.
