Burgers were okay but way over the top expensive. I opted for the Kobe beef based on our server's glowing recommendation and it was smaller than a regular, and sort of tasted a little bit better than average, but was $5 more, making my burger total around $17. I could get 3 much more satisfying burgers from Five Guys a couple of buildings away. Also, we waited at the bar to be seated for 30 min and never got a drink or appetizer because the bar staff completely ignored us. However, our waiter was at least decent. Bottom line: Just okay. I'd recommend Boylan Heights or Citizen Burger Bar over this place any day.

Tried it. Eh. So many better choices for burgers. Very noisy inside (no sound deadening). Burgers start at $9-10 without fries. Fries are $5. So burger with fries starts at $14-15 for the cheaper choices. Small selection of beers on tap. We went with 6 people. All the buns were wet on the bottom bun...soggy. Without adding sauces the burgers were bland. Consensus was not nearly as good as Citizen Burger for a high end burger. In fact the burgers at Red Robin are better for half the price. We ordered all styles if fries (regular, sweet potato and truffle) plus onion rings to try them... Again soggy, greasy, not crisp, blah. Zucchini fries the same. Not likely they'll get a second try from us.

Is it the worst burger I've ever had? Well, no, I guess not. But it's definitely not the best. Even in Charlottesville. And that's saying a lot. There are so many things wrong it's hard to know where to start, but the patty itself is as good (or, rather, bad) a place as any to start. Two times I've come and two times the burger has not been cooked to the proper temperature (always overdone). Next, as for what comes on top of the burger, it wasn't any better. Twice, I ordered "The Ringer," which is a burger topped with bacon, Frank's Red Hot, onion rings, pepper jack cheese, and mayo. The first time, I thought the onion rings got too soggy in the burger so the second time I got them on the side. Imagine my surprise when I got cold onion rings soaked in Frank's Red Hot. Well, I had apparently assumed there was a typo when they left out a comma between "Frank's Red Hot" and "onion rings" in the list of ingredients. Nope. Some great chef somewhere decided that a food that is meant to be hot and crispy should instead be chilled and soaked in sauce. That poor culinary judgment should be more than enough for anyone with even a modicum of taste to run far, far away. Finally, the bun holding everything together. I would not be surprised if it came from a food service company or they let it sit for a few days. The bun is dry, flavorless, and falls apart after a few bites. By the end, I would have rather gotten a simple burger at Five Guys than Zinburger's poor attempt at a gourmet/upscale burger.

There is potential here but they didn't exactly nail it on this first visit. We sat outside where there was a very cool atmosphere with the flamed heaters/fire put thing, and a nice view into the bar. We did however notice the mural of cows in the back of the restaurant which we found slightly awkward knowing we were about to eat some--a little off putting. Service initially was very prompt and our wine, truffle fries and onion rings were very good. This is when things got a little rocky--their food runner proceeded to take our burgers to the table behind us(side note:who ate them?--weird). It took our server a little while to realize this, but when she did had another made quickly which was nice. So in all it took about 25-30 minutes to get our burger despite it not being that busy somewhat later in the evening, and not sure if she specified the Kobe beef patty in the expedited order as it seemed like a pretty average burger--because my well-done burger ordered medium was most definitely lost in that second order. I had also heard that the milkshakes were fantastic, and we were in a bit of a hurry to be somewhere else, and when we were finishing eating our server was nowhere to be found. When we finally got our check we had to leave before ordering the shake that I really wanted to try. All in all it was an average dining experience with some some upside potential. I would go back to give it another shot.

We're in the area from out of town and this place was conveniently close and the burger/wine thing is an interesting combo. The menu is pretty simple, burgers, salads, sides and wine. My wife being a wine lover notes the selection was pretty small for a wine bar. What she had was good but pricey at 10 bucks a glass. The burgers were very good as we're the fries and their prices were more in line with this type of place. The one negative other than some nitpicking on the wine is the noise level is very loud. For an uncrowded Tuesday it was much closer to a nightclub feel than I would've thought. If that's your thing, great, but I could do with a little less noise.

One word: Loud. So loud it was like my server was lip synching. The place wasn't even half full but it was really loud. My husband and I had to shout to hear one another. Another word: Trendy. If that's your thing, more power to ya, but it's not mine. The place has been getting rave reviews from my co-workers so I wanted to give it a try. One more word? Greasy. As in, the burger. I had a plain and simple with added cheddar. The bun was saturated at the bottom and hard to eat. My husband got a breakfast burger and it kept falling apart. He was about to start knife and forking it by the time he got to the second half. It was very messy, which I thought was an odd contrast to the crisp clean atmosphere. Hmm. There's employees everywhere but many of them just look confused. I guess that's because the place is so new, they have to get used to things. We won't return. The burgers are better at Chili's and we can hear one another there. Thanks to happy hour special, we paid $37 for two burgers, overpriced onion rings, a milk shake, and a strawberry lemonade. By the time tip is considered, we're in the $40s. Might as well go to a place where we don't feel so out of place. I guess I'm just not the upscale type. I'm sure plenty of other people will keep the place going.

Had two burgers and two drinks and the bill came to 42.00. Didn't even come with a side ! Rip off!!

I am a fan. I passed Zinburger on my way into the City of Charlottesville and was attracted by the modern decor and the fire pit outside, so I returned that evening for dinner. We sat at the bar and had great burgers and great service. Yes, the bill did come to $90.00, with tip, for 3 people who just had burgers, beer/wine, a side of sweet potato fries, and two side salads. The burger - the Zinburger - was perfectly cooked - medium and juicy. It was made with Manchego Cheese, onions, lettuce, and what seemed like a fancier-than-normal mayo. The bartender was knowledgeable about the local wines and beers and what would go well with what. The food came out fast, as well. Would love to return.

I had to try this place after reading rave reviews on Yelp. I went there on a busy Friday evening. Though, the host had fancy gadget to seat people, I'm not sure how efficient it was. I saw several empty spots in the place, and it still took them 15 mins to find me a table. The server was friendly, and explained us the menu. I went for the "Almost Veggie" burger, and shared zucchini fries with my buddy. The burger tasted average. It was pretty bland. Only edge it has on a Boylan Height burger was that it didn't crumble :) Other than that, Boylan's vegetarian burgers trump this place. Even the zucchini fries weren't too delectable. You don't get fries with the burger. You have to order them as a side! Definitely, not the best "vegetarian" burger place in town. The ambiance is pretty interesting. It has a nice bar area. The mirrors and the open windows make the space look bigger. And yes, it's pretty darn loud inside.

Struggling to sum up what was so off about my experience here, my friend Phil suggested that walking into Zinburger is like walking "into a joke." I'll take it. Any given faux-gourmet burger establishment in any given expressway-bound shopping center is destined for the farcical quality of a PF Chang's or Cheesecake Factory, but this place takes that kitsch and fuckin soars with it: the main dining area is encircled by a mural-sized screen saver of cows grazing in a pasture. Clearly borrowing from the clean-cut, orgo-friendly aesthetics of well-established mall restaurants like Matchbox and Elevation Burger, some attempts at cutesie-ness emerge from the oppressively sterile decor: for example, a sliver of chalkboard paint in the corner, displaying the specials. However, these efforts are swallowed by the five identical plasma screens all blaring ESPN and the underpopulated patio lounge, adorned with low-lying sofas, a couple of housewives in backless dresses and a rectangular tub of small shiny rocks. The men's room is nothing but baffling: watching you pee is a life-sized hazmat dude standing between two rows of perfect, industrially-grown lettuce. I'm sure Walter White would make awesome produce, but why did my burger come with a plop of translucent, grease-slicked shredded lettuce?? Boiyoiyoiyoiyoiyoinnnggggg!!!! Zinburger is cavernous, cold, layered with hardwood and lined with chrome, none of which aid the acoustics -- it is, Phil and I agreed, gymnasium-esque. But unlike a gym, it is desperately over-staffed and no one will leave you alone. For example, there is not only a hostess, but a pre-hostess who opens the door for you. Fine, but in a restaurant where it's impossible to take a call without stepping outside, meeting the same forced half-smile more than once is a little irritating. Not on account of any one individual, the wait staff is poignantly awkward. After our second waiter insisted on pouring my friend's beer for him, he assured us, "Cmon! This is supposedly to be relaxing!" Really? Oh and the food. It's not that good. Our waiter made a point of asking if we were comfortable with the patty being pink all over, and mine came out not only well-done but honestly, a little gray. The meal was okay altogether, but I'm more opposed to the devious pricing scheme that allows these soulless burger joints to proliferate. All the sandwiches hover at $10, and none come with fries -- those must be ordered separately, as a side, for $5. "It's alright, it serves two!" Bullshit. Well, fine, you could share them, but that's still $15 for a burger and a couple handfuls of fries without tax and of course, a drink. And OF COURSE, why would you come to a place like this over fast food but for an alcoholic beverage? The beer list is pathetic and even a Coors Light is $4.50, and the wine thing is an obvious gimmick. Although I may sound downright cheap, it's because in a plaza with a Five Guys, a Burger King, and a McDonald's I ended up spending $25 for a burger. And sure, I am a bit cheap. Fuck this place.

One of my favorite places to eat in Charlottesville!! The zucchini fries were a surprise favorite. I am a beef eater and find the burgers to be delicious, but don't miss out on the juicy and flavorful turkey burgers. Milkshakes are also delicious and the servers will happily split for you!

Ordered ZINBURGER to go $10.23. Burger delivered. quickly & perfectly prepared. Waitress was kind and in free time made me aware of their specials which are tempting. The experience made me remember days long gone. The burger was served in in a McDonalds burger box (unprinted white). It was tasty 1st bite to last. Definately a $7-10 burger. As I bit down on my 1st bite, I made notice of the Burger King next door. I contemplated their $4 whopper and how much I enjoyed them younger and poorer. Two whoppers for lunch pacified my appetite and they were not short of flavor. Had I changed so much? Was this burger really worth 2 1/2 times the cost of the whopper or 2 times the cost of a Five Guys burger? Perhaps, if I were staying to enjoy the atmosphere (TV's). They certainly didn't make the answer obvious.

Where do I start. The decor looks like something from a high school cafeteria, meets Ikea, very bland. Everything is brown, white or a ill looking pink. The waiters outfit looks like an all day chocolate sucker. Looks of TV's, but it just doesn't work. Our perky waitress took our order pretty quickly. Warning number one - brought out catsup in a little dinky white cup. If they only squirt an oz or two of catsup, and don't bring out the Heinz, then I pretty much write the place off. This wouldn't even cover one of their lousy fries, and it had that plastic sheen that lets you know it has been out for a while. The burger arrived and about 10 minutes later the fries arrived. The burger was good actually. The bun was delicious, cheese good. My wife can't eat red meat so she got the turkey burger and raved about it. Don't bother with the fries - they suck. Little tiny twigs. Taste like something that Mcdonald's would throw away. Definitely not worth the $5 extra dollars. Awful. When the menu states hand cut fries you expect something with a little size to them, not something that looks like string. Yuck. Tea was good, although I had to beg to get a glass of ice, since the tea was just brewed. Just like the catsup, they bought me about 7 cubes. Over all, not impressed. Bad environment, loud, just not comfy at all. Bad fries, little cups of catsup that has been left out for days. I give the place about 6 months and it will be closed. Don't go.

I had a turkey El Diablo burger, and my wife had a large Farm salad with turkey patty on top. We were both satisfied with our choices, quality- and taste-wise, as well as quantity-wise (I need to shovel it in). The turkey patties are moist and flavorful. We shared a side of sweet potato fries. They were simple and good-tasting, but not really enough for two people to share, despite the waitress's statement to that effect. I had a creme brulee shake for dessert, which was really delicious and wholesome-tasting. About the prices: Coming from the Washington DC area, we thought the food was good value for the money. We were there at a slack time, just before the dinner rush, and service was good.

The time of the year to get a burger... My bf and I are on paleo/primal diet but want to have the First and Last Burger of the Year celebration, then we fast for 24 hours. Zinburger advertise their meat from grassfed cows, so that +1. Bf ordered the Kobe Burger, which was kind of sinister because I am not sure if there is an American style Kobe beef (Beef that comes from Kobe, Japan. Beef from the happiest cows in the world. Cows fed with delicious unadulterated grass and Japanese Sake. Cows that are massaged while listening to classical music.) Anyway, Kobe beef has a superiorly distinct flavor. I had some of the beef and it's definitely not Kobe (-1)...but it's good. And besides, real Kobe beef is grain-fed. I had the Santa Fe burger (w/ goat cheese and roasted peppers), +1. Zucchini fries are my favorite! +1. These burgers don't come with sides so you have to order it separately, -1. I didn't like the creme brûlée shake...and it's sugary anyway. I noticed our server was checking on us every minute and the place is over staffed with supervisors...haha...glad I don't work here! Overall, we enjoyed the experience and our burgers.

Burgers were awesome. I got the breakfast burger and substituted the American cheese and avocado for Havarti cheese and onion ring. It was really good. Fries just ok. Tuna salad was amazing and shakes were great. We sat outside so can't comment on the noise level inside. Would definitely come back. Oh forgot - beer was good too!

I had a terrible experience with the staff here which is unfortunate because the food was good. The waiter forgot our salad and appetizer. He brought them with prompting ten minutes after we finished our burgers. The management also disappointing. When they stopped by to ask about our meal I shared the problem and he actually asked if I specified that I wanted the appetizers before my meal. I again explained it was FORGOTTEN! He then agreed to take take it off our bill but never did. I suppose that was also forgotten.

Great burgers! Loved the fries. And don't forget dessert, the banana pie was awesome! Definitely recommend this place, and will for sure be back. (Our fries were given to another table accidentally, when the manager found out he brought us fresh fries right away and took the fries off our bill. Great customer service!)

Fast service and fabulous burgers. My only complaint is the dairy cattle pictures on the wall instead of an appropriate beef breed, but that's just my degree in Animal Science complaining! :)

One word: Amazing. Beginning to end this was a great experience. Everyone in my group loved their food. My Breakfast Burger was voted the best by the table and I will definitely be back to get it again. We had a 10 minute conversation about how perfect the burger buns were and all burgers were cooked exactly to order. My wine was great, the glasses of water were filled 4-5 times during the meal, the sides we ordered for appetizers were good, and the mint chocolate chip milkshake was terrific. The service was excellent, something that is not typical of a newly opened restaurant. Everyone was cheerful, energetic, and helpful. Overall, it was a terrific experience and we will definitely be coming back. The only complaint anyone had was with the volume of the music. It was quite loud and you pretty much had to yell all conversation.

Being from out of town, this was recommended to us a place for a great burger. Wasn't sure when we first walked in, seemed a little "froo froo". Decor is modern but fun. Outdoor seating looks great but we opted for indoor as it was very breezy Waiter was very nice, explained everything. I could taste a wine selection before choosing. He walked us through ordering burger temp/doneness and all arrived perfect. Everyone at table except me enjoyed the zucchini fries. I just know many places I can get them done better All enjoyed burgers. Both teenagers raved. You can really taste the difference with the Kobe beef compared to angus My husband and I shared the Sam and Kobe burgers. Regular fries were terrific! I love a skinny fry and they do them perfectly Hoping they have worked out kinks from opening as others wrote about. We would come back when in town!!

3.5. Bartenders are hit or miss. Mostly miss, but the food is awesome. It's expensive, especially sense you do not get any fries with the burger. I had fried zucchini sticks, wow. Tasty. The atmosphere is interesting. It's a little like an open air cafeteria. That said, it's nice that they have garage doors. It's worth the visit.

Yum and yum is what I have to say! Thank goodness! Finally a burger joint with good milkshakes too! The atmosphere here is very lively and the food is great! Perfect place to hit before a concert or game! Don't pass up trying the fries. One is enough for four and all are very tasty! I love the parmesan and zucchini fries!

I've been to Zinburger twice now and each time I've regretted it. Since everyone seems to have voiced their opinions on the regular burgers, I'll pipe in on the veggie burger - it was the only thing that would have bumped my score up to a 3. Except, FRIES SHOULD COME WITH A BURGER OR SANDWICH. The fact that you have to pay $5 for a side of fries is awful. What restaurant does that? Zinburger does. To make matters worse, the fries are only mediocre. They're curly, which is fun, except that they were limp. I like my fries crispy, not limp, and especially not when you are paying $5 for them. There were plenty, except they were served with a bowl of catchup on top of them, which weighed down the already limp fries. The sweet tea is very good, but you can get good sweet tea at Riverside, too and your meal is 1/2 the price and 10 times better. Zinburger is loud. Both times the place was only about 1/4 full (at lunchtime - very telling), but the noise level would make you think it was packed. The TVs on every wall is overkill. The first time I went with two friends our waitress informed us that she had strep throat and was having her tonsils out in a few days, but not to worry - she wasn't contagious. Is this really who we want handling our food??? The second time, the waiter was attentive enough, but made us feel like it was a lot to ask for by serving us. His heart just wasn't in his job. I downloaded the app for the preferred customer deal and found out they have to take your iPhone with them to the register to scan the code to give you credit. So, potentially, someone with strep is carrying your phone around the restaurant...neither made sense to me. I gave it two chances. Will not go back. Charlottesville is inundated with great restaurants, and this isn't one of them.

My fiance and I went there yesterday, sat at the bar for about 8-10mins and no one ever came to get our order or greet us so we left. The place wasn't busy and there were many employees just standing around chitchatting. We decided to give it another chance today, and it was the last time we will go there. First, we were seated near the bar to watch a football game. We asked our server to put on a specific game (it was showing at a TV not in the bar area) but the TV's at the bar didn't get "some channels" other tvs had. Not a deal breaker, so we moved. We ordered water with no ice, the waitress got us both water with ice. Not that big of a deal... so we order our food, and my fiance asked for the salad dressing on the side. Our order came, and got the order wrong. She took it back, and it took 15 mins to get his "fresh" salad with the dressing on the side. Ridiculous. What ticked us off the most, is the sever did NOT ever check on us, my fiance got up and refilled our waters himself, and he had to chase her down to get the check so we can leave. WORST SERVICE EVER. Will not ever be going back there. Food is not that great, way too over priced for a burger w/o fries.

I went there yesterday on a whim. It was early so no one was there. It was quite cold inside (this is August). The waitress Glenda was amazingly knowledgeable about the food. She was great. My husband and I got Kobe burger, a soda, a water and Zucchini fries. The burgers are big, but all that comes on the plate is the burger and 3 disks of pickle. Everything was very good, a bit rich for me, but good. The zucchini fries are exceptional. The problem was this cost $50. I mean, for real? $50 for 2 burgers, 1 order of fries and a pop? I am not sure I can justify this.

no GRIN for ZIN. we visited for lunch on a weekday. my wife got the 1/2 Farm Salad w/ Chix ($10), i got the Chinese Chix Salad ($12), and we got our kids a burger each ($7 each). we also tried the Zucchini Fries which were pretty good. salads were delivered and my full salad was pretty much the same size as my wife's 1/2 salad...when i asked the waitress her response was "i've never really had anyone say anything about the size...and that "corporate" dictates the sizes of everything they serve." not her fault, but seems like a weak explanation for the customer. just seems like if you are going to charge more for a salad then the portion size should substantiate the price. the salads were average, chicken was overcooked and lacked seasoning. i tasted my kids burger which was ok, the bun was the best part (probably because it is from Albemarle Bakery), but the beef was average. the manager (Matt) came to the table after we were done to offer a milkshake, which we respectfully declined, and offered the same "corporate" explanation. really nice guy and was very professional, but it kinda seemed like his hands were tied. manager said he would mention it to the "chef"...but i'm sure corporate probably ties his hands too. EASY FIX: put a bit more lettuce on that salad and put it on a bigger plate, if for nothing else more than the appearance of value. AND: give the customer (within reason) what they want if you want them to come back. there is no way this place can compete with a place like Citizen Burger because they lack the LOCAL mentality. their beef is sourced out of state and they don't offer grass-fed as an option, no highlighted gluten-free options on their menu as well. hopefully CORPORATE is reading their online reviews because they are not all that good. if they are reading these reviews, THEN GIVE YOUR MANAGEMENT MORE POWER TO ACCOMODATE CUSTOMERS. there is nothing worse than telling a customer "that is what corporate tells us we have to do". i guess that is what we get for ordering a salad at a burger/wine bar. we might give it another try, but for our money Citizen is a much, much better quality and value!

$50 bucks for two REALLY greasy burgers, fries for her onion rings for me, and iced tea for us both ($3 bucks a pop) Should have stayed local. BTW I'm a fat dude...and if I say it's greasy you know it's bad. Onion rings were 6 bucks and average at best. the best thing about the fries was the truffle aioli. I'll never call Five Guys overpriced again! The Riverside High Street is a bargain, too! The service was awful as well...the hostesses were beyond polite and you could tell they were not happy with the waitstaff. No local wine or beer on the menu...just some chalkboard a mile away. Never going back.

I was once told that a sign of a great chef was not having to season your food at the table. Well consider this chef bad. The burger and fries were both bland and in desperate need of salt and pepper. The truffle fries were void of truffle anything, though the truffle aioli was delicious and quite possibly the only thing with flavor on my plate. I sat a the bar and had to ask to be served (who has to ask to order at a restaurant?) and was thirsty the whole meal because they were too busy to get me a drink. I would say save your calories and your $25 and seek elsewhere for a good burger.

Overpriced and overrated.. Went for lunch today. The salad situation is a problem. They don't mind charging $12-$15 for a "large" salad that looks like the smallest side salad you've ever encountered. Burgers are okay but not the best. Worst part about this place Fries don't come with the burgers but are $5 extra... That in itself should be a red flag. Wouldn't recommend this place. Citizen Burger downtown is MUCH better hands down.

Greasy. That's the main impression that I have of zin burger. For a $35 lunch for two people we had burgers shared fries and one beer each. For this type of money you might expect grass fed organic or local beef. Nope. The atmosphere is excellent however noisy. This place needs some work in terms of food quality and pricing.

  • Stacey P.

I had a very mediocre experience. There wasn't anything special about the burgers and I felt like the items were overpriced for a very average burger and average fries. I chose to use Kobe beef in my burger and I couldn't tell a difference (wasn't worth the up-charge). If I wanted a good burger experience, I would go to Citizens. I have no interest in going back here. Service also wasn't great. We waited awhile for our food and then the burgers came out way before the fries.

We went to Zinburger in Charlottesville, Virginia and it was awesome. We loved the gourmet burgers, farm salad and zucchini fries. To top it off, the banana cream pie was out of this world. The service was great. We will recommend Zinburger to everyone.

  • M. H.

I'm kinda iffy about this place because for the price, my friends and I expected more. The burgers were nothing special. The fries that you can order separately ranged from $5-8-ish (approximately). That's kinda expensive, considering that they don't give you many fries and they're really nothing special other than the fact that the plain fries are super skinny. The zucchini fries looked interesting but I don't think it's worth the price. The creme brûlée milkshake was delicious though. The service was very nice - I think it's because they just opened recently. The servers opened the front door for us coming in and leaving. The waiter was very bubbly. So that's a plus. But overall my friends and I think Boylan Heights has good/comparable burgers for less, so we'll be going there next time we want burgers. So good place to go if you are into the fancier atmosphere with normal burgers.

Nice clean restaraunt with awesome space. Milkshakes were rich and filling. Burgers were big and flavorful. Waiters and waitresses were very kind and caring. I left with a good experience and hope to return someday.

This place is great!! I'm not a huge "burger" fan but they have salads and chicken, and they will fix it exactly the way you like. They also have those greasy fries that everyone seems to adore. Service is very good most of the time. It is loud, but most of these places are. Lots of fancy drinks and big fancy milkshakes are the only "desert" but I did have one for my birthday (I shared with everyone, no way could I drink it all!!) and it was very very yummy!! But, I have no doubt it was one of those 1000 calorie things.... Definitely for the young!! DH and I go at least once a week.

Why are there so many waiters and so few attending to people's needs? And why do we receive our food at such different times? If I order a burger and fries, I'd like the fries to get there before my burger is gone, and vice versa. The burgers are ok, a bit greasy (it helps to ask them to leave the butter off of the bun) and nothing to write home about. We've tried this place 4 or 5 times now; the shakes are good, when you finally, finally get them, and my children love it. But it's expensive and the service (though the servers are plentiful and friendly) is slow. Dear Charlottesville, please get a good burger restaurant some day. It doesn't seem like it should be so hard. Oh, and as noted by other reviewers, it's TOO LOUD OMG. If they want to be a hip, loud, late-night bar, turn the music up later. When the families are gone.

    (2)
  • Terry H.

You may think it is hip to pay $9 for a tasteless burger that it took the kitchen 45 minutes to deliver. I think it is a waste of my money. The fries were dry and overcooked and the only reason I had fries they could not deliver on the onion rings. It seems they must refrigerate the onion rings for 2 hours before they can fry them. As a cook at Howard Johnson we delivered Onion Rings any time of day prepared by order. We were never out of onion rings and we did not need to refrigerate. We had that procedure locked down in 1965! The banana cream pie was frozen, rendering the bananas brown and the whole desert very disappointing. So now I must ask my wife if she will make one of her delicious banana cream pies. The one I had missed the mark completely.

These burgers were very delicious but also very pricey! They get you with the "Kobe" upgrade, bringing your burger up to $15. The waiter was slow to get to our table and very slow to bring drinks, but once the food was ordered it came out very quickly and he picked up the pace of his service. If you are looking for a finger lickin' greasy splurge meal, this is the place to go. Personally I prefer my burgers a little greasy so I really enjoyed it. Also, I really liked the bun. I would suggest this as an easy going date-night kind of place, and anticipate wearing strechy pants.

We had a party of at least 24. Their service for our group was amazing. We all got our food at the same time and they divided up the orders so we didn't have to split but could pay separately. If you added something to your order they brought that out quickly too. I have been to places where it takes forever to get the check for a group.

Nobody wants to come in to lunch and listen to the waitstaff complain about their jobs to each other at the bar while working. Food was good.

Another gourmet burger joint in C-Ville. Decent selection. Probably will have difficulties in the shadows of Citizen Burger Bar and Boylan Heights. Was unable to get credit for our bill towards their rewards system due to "computer issues". Outdoor seating includes couches around a glass fire pit. Mist sprayers keep it cool I the summer heat.

Next time we'll go back to Citizen Burger. Burger was tasty and cooked to order, but for the price we can get an equally good burger at Citizen and it comes with a side. No, the shoestring fries will not serve two. Restaurant was only 10% full at 1:15 but yet kitchen still put tomato on burger when we requested no tomato. Had high hopes, but sadly won't be coming back.

I've eaten at Zinburger twice now and I enjoyed myself both times. The burgers are good and made from good quality ingredients. The second visit, I got a chicken sandwich with avocado. I think I enjoyed the chicken sandwich even more than the burger. The milkshakes are delicious - generously portioned and ridiculously rich. Service was great both visits. Still, it is pricey and I don't like that $15 only gets you a burger - all sides are extra. I am sure we will come back because the food is great, I just wish it was a little less expensive!

My family (six of us) came into Zinburger and we were seated almost immediately. Unfortunately, it took 20 minutes to finally get waited on, even for drinks, and that only happened when we complained. However, once they were aware of the problem they really made it right! The comped the WHOLE meal... For all six of us. That was WAY more than we expected. We would have been happy with a simple discount! The food was awesome! Definitely recommend!!!

I'm not a burger fan but tried out this restaurant since it just opened. I ordered Napa salad and a Kobe burger. The beef comes from cattle that listen to classical music so I was told! Juicy cheesy even a little greasy, but it actually tastes good. The salad is very good btw.

I'm writing as a Non-Burger eater! It was great! The atmosphere was excellent - light and airy, great change for a sports bar-type place. I got a buffalo chicken sandwich and it was HUGE!! Really great and food seemed great quality. A little pricey because everything is separate, no sides included... But I find this area if town to be on the pricey side anyhow. I would definitely visit again and try a shake and sides.

Best burgers in Charlottesville. My boyfriend and I go here weekly (or twice a week!) because there is usually no wait, service is fast, the food is not outrageously priced, and the burgers seem top quality. We have had a few misses with the level of 'doneness' (we like pink throughout) but nothing so bad as to ever make us stop returning :) The only bad thing is that their portions are so large that we never have room for a shake / zucchini fries!

  • Sarah Y.

I had the zinburger. A perfectly cooked burger with onions braised in Zinfandel on the BEST burger bun I've ever had! I didn't try a side as they come extra and say that they serve 2 and was by myself. I had a delicious, not too sweet strawberry drink. I will definitely come back again and again!

  • Courtney V.

Overpriced... and the sweet potato fries do NOT serve two people. If you are paying almost 8 dollars for fries, at least serve a decent portion. Burger was ok, but not good enough for what we paid. Service was great, though!

I would like to start off that I am in the restaurant business and certain things bother me more than the average dining patron. The first time I went, the zucchini fries were delicious, crisp, and plentiful. My burger was just blah and the service was annoying as I feel like I was being rushed out. The second chance I gave Zinburger, we received a raw-undercooked chicken sandwich that the manager handled with grace and an impressive complimentary shot. The most recent time visiting tonight, I sat at the bar for 12 minutes without any service (yes, I timed it) with 2 bartenders behind the bar walking by me without acknowledging my presence, might I add, I was the only person sitting there. I tried several times to get their attention but was met with silence. Finally I was greeted with "oh,bey why can I get u?", well lets see, service for one and a glass of wine. A friend ended up joining and I told her of my waiting and she proceeded to call out, "Excuse me, may I have a glass of wine?" his response was, I'm sorry I'm off the clock, but I guess I can get you a glass." SHOCKED. Just because you are "cut"(in the business this means you no longer take tables but are doing side work and other tasks, but still help your teammates). The only reason I go back to this unorganized, poorly trained, identity crisis of a restaurant is for the Tilia-malbec/syrah wine they have by the glass. Don't waste your time spending $15 on just the burger with poor service. You can get better service and better food at Burton's Grill or Citizen Burger.

Wow - this is such an amazing restaurant - definitely not what I was expecting at all! The breakfast burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had - the temperature was prepared perfectly and came out with a very simple and nice presentation. The truffle fries and strawberry milkshake were ridiculously on point, although I would love a different music selection if possible. Additionally, the service was incredible: professional, fun, informed, and personable!! I would definitely recommend that you ask for Malcolm during your experience at ZinBurger, he made it all the better!!

This place is off the charts! Can't sing enough praise for any part of the restaurant. Great open atmosphere, friendly and helpful waiters and waitresses, very clean, quick service, and unreal burgers. No joke, the burger was one of the best I have ever had. (Strongly recommend the Breakfast Burger) All I can say is that I will be returning here...frequently. As a side note, thought it was pretty cool that they provided rubix cubes & etch-a-sketches for kids. Who doesn't love those!?

Best burger place in Charlottesville. Hands down better than Boylan and Citizen. Not to mention that 1/2 bottles of wine on Wednesdays and the shakes are to die for. Only criticism is that they shouldn't have the cows in the pasture on the wall. It looks childish.

We went to Zin Burger the night it opened and were welcomed by A LOT of hostesses, all very friendly. We offered to sit at the bar because it was too busy to get a normal table. The bartender was very nice and the drinks were amazing. We ordered the truffle fries and they were definitely the highlight of the meal. Once we receive our burgers, the meal went downhill. The burgers were incredibly undercooked- it tasted like eating raw ground beef. They were also way too messy to eat with your hands. We were both forced to use a fork and knife because the whole thing was falling apart. After finishing, it took at least twenty minutes to actually get out of the restaurant. A few weeks later we went again because we received a free side coupon. This trip was terrible. It took at least fifteen minutes just to get our drinks and we did not have a single server. It was very obvious that we were an unexpected table and no one knew which waiter was supposed to serve us. The food however, was much better prepared, probably due to more experience.

One of the best burgers you can get your hands on great atmosphere great service and food is served quickly none of the burgers or sandwiches are served with sides but sides are big and can be split between two or three people and it's all made from scratch you have to try this place welcome to the UVA community Zinburger! !!

This is hands down the best burger in Charlottesville. The ambiance, food and service at Zinburger are other worldly. The burgers was perfectly cooked to order and just melted in my mouth. I got the Zinburger and my fiance got the SamBurger, both were incredible. The sides are ala carte which is a bit of a downside but we split one order of fries for $5 and there were plenty. After enjoying the burger and fries we split a mint choc. chip milkshake! We were stuffed but the shake was so good not a drop went to waste. The server was on his game as well! He explained the history of Zinburger, the current specials, the drink list etc. and really made dining there a pleasure. I could go on and on about this place but if you are in the mood for a burger in Cville this is the best place by far!!!!

OMG try those Kobe burgers! Everything is so good it puts this as the best place to eat in C-ville!! To die for- the banana cream pie and I mean to die for,,.. You also can get great salads, but don't miss trying the ground in house Nebraska beef burgers. Yum.

Sometimes service is great sometimes it's pretty awful. Buns taste like donuts to me and I love it. The burgers remain juicy even when I've received them a little overdone from what I ordered. Buffalo chicken sandwich is amazing. Milkshakes are awesome! The passion fruit iced tea is refreshing. Staff is pretty green. I only see a few original staff members from when they first opened

My boyfriend and I came here, and we left severely disappointed. Our burgers were tasteless and wet, and our milkshakes tasted really plain when they were supposed to be creme burlee shakes. The burgers did not come with fries, we had to get them separately. $5 fries for only a small amount. In the end we spent about $50 total and were neither that full nor satisfied. We will never come here again, it's not worth it at all.

This place adds some interest to the otherwise blah options at Barracks Road Shopping Center. The beef and veggie burgers are both delicious. My boyfriend swears by the "El Diablo," but I tend to try whatever their special is or get the veggie burger. The milkshakes are great, too and they're happy to make you whatever you like with the ingredients they have. Last time we were there, my friend got them to make a cookie dough shake with chocolate ice cream. Nom. The sangria is some of the best I've had in Charlottesville--love the raspberry puree. The food and drinks aren't earth-shattering but definitely good for the price. Like the patio with fire pit as well.

Def worth a try! We sought refuge here after the line at Chipotle frightened us a little bit. It was an unexpected surprise! Organic this-and-that and an original variety of menu items. We went splitsville on the zucchini fries. They were pretty decent tho I would love to have tried them baked instead of fried. Became a big soggy but the fine taste was still there. I opted for the farm salad (+mahi) and it was refreshing and just filling enough. The beau dug into a self designed turkey burger which he liked. The boy is usually hungry 20 minutes after eating but this stayed with him through the afternoon. Score! The sweet tea had to be cut in half with unsweet but was perfect! The man drank a locally brewed beer and chatted with the knowledgeable Lauren at the bar. She was super sweet and a great bartender!

Burger: OK, bottom bun saturated, soggy Service: absolutely horrible, worst in a long time; after being seated, waited and waited....after more than 10 minutes, a man who appeared to be the manager actually came to the table, made an excuse about how our server was busy with a large table and then walked away without asking if we would like to get a drink. Unacceptable and representative of poor insight on the part of someone that hoodwinked his way into a manager position. Seriously? Take care of the customer, ask what we would like, and go get it. Feeble excuses pointing to feeble restaurant skills and poor insight into customer service. Then the burgers arrive without the fries that were ordered, the server never comes to check in the early stage of our meal such that as we're finishing our burgers he stops by to have us inform re the forgotten fries. He seemed dumbfounded that we had not gotten them. Curious given that it would be hard to believe someone else was helping him with our table. At that point we advised him to just forget it. We did order a second round of drinks that we watched sit at the bar pickup area for over 10 minutes. Fail. And fail again. And yet again.

Just picked up a to go farm salad with seared tuna. One of the freshest, best salads I have ever had. Can't wait to go back and eat in the restaurant. Great atmosphere and bar. Looks like barracks shopping center got themselves a real winner this time.

I stopped for a quick dinner by myself before class and it was great! I wasn't hungry enough for a huge burger and an order of fries they say serves two so the waitress suggested I get the kids meal. I had an awesome burger customized perfectly and sweet potato fries. Topped off with a good draft beer at happy hour for under 14 dollars was awesome!

Breakfast burger was a gooey, sloppy, delicious mess. Fries were 5 Guys-esque. Wait staff was attentive and quick, I did go kind of later on a Thursday, not a busy time generally so that may have helped. Only down side- and it's a big down side-was it cost $15 for a burger and fries. Military discount was a nice touch and much appreciated with the cost of the meal.

more like 3.5 stars, but , as many of you may know, i round DOWN, b'c everyone else rounds UP and that inflates the restaurant ratings we got the spicy fries. they were good and spicy which i liked. what i really wish they didn't do was load the fries with the melted cheese. it tasted like cheese whiz. but the heat in the fries was just what i was looking for bf got the burger of the week, the greek burger, and he LOVED it. i got the el diablo, the meat was good but the bun became zoggy which for me is a REAL BIG BUMMER. also there was way too much cheese and braised onions. it felt disproportionate to the size of the burger service was fine, no issues ambiance is nice. i got to watch the us open on a big screen and i like the seating arrangements , almost like a pseudosports bar. the music is set for a trendy crowd but there are plenty of kids here(like teens and tweens) so that part was a bit interesting parking is a plenty in the lot i'd be willing to try some of the other fries and burgers at another point in time however its certainly not the best burger ive ever had in my life

Long story short, I love the taste and decadence of their food, but my wallet doesn't as it is a bit pricier for what you get. In my opinion, Zinburger has an awesome selection of burgers to choose from with every day having a daily specialty burger as well as specialty milkshake. The appetizers are spectacular with the zucchini fries being a personal favorite of mine. The milkshakes as well taste very good and one is large enough to share with another person (in my opinion). That said, it's a bit expensive for what you get. A burger alone will range somewhere around $10 and $12 with the Kobe burgers being on the higher end, but you just get the burger alone and the fries have to be ordered separately. Even with that, you don't get THAT many fries if you order them as a side. The burger itself though is spectacular, and I'm giving four stars just for that. Beware that it's gonna be EXTREMELY juicy and will be dripping all its meat juices all over, so the bottom bun is eventually gonna get soaked. But it tastes awesome, so I'll get over that. The décor of the restaurant also looks very nice, almost high-end but not really, and the servers we've gotten here are always very pleasant and entertaining (we seem to get a lot of entertainers and jokers which is always welcome). They're very helpful for first-timers there.

I am hooked on the kale Caesar and half-price bottles of wine Wednesday. The bites of burger I snag from my friends are awesome too. It can get a little loud if full but that kale salad is so good that I don't care!

Zinburger is a place that I have a love-hate relationship with. We've been here multiple times since moving to Cville, but the service is so hit or miss. Normally if we are in a small group, the service is decent, but any more than four people, it becomes very spotty. I also think it is pretty overpriced for what it is. If you're charging over $10 for a burger, you need to include fries with them. I really like the zucchini fries and the truffle fries. Both are awesome, but like I said, fries should be included with the burger, not an extra add-on. I've tried the veggie burger, which was good. But on most visits, I've ordered the ahi tuna burger, which has always been really, really good. I've also tried the ahi tuna salad, which is on the small size for an entree salad. It is really tasty though, but I just can't rationalize spending $15 on a small salad. They have some very good wines priced at only $6 a glass, which is redeeming though. We continue to go back to Zinburger because of the location, but to be honest, I think Citizen Burger is much better.

I've heard of a lot of burger joints in Cville and the two that always come up are Zin Burger and Citizen Burger. Zin Burger is more expensive but I will pay the cost every time. The food and atmosphere are much nicer. Their burgers are bomb! You'll pay close to $30/person here with tip, but won't walk away saying the food or experience was bad. Their weekly burgers are consistently a hit but you can always get the plain and simple one and it's also satisfying. Great appetizers and their shakes are good, too. I love paying the higher premium for better food, a cleaner restaurant, a nicer atmosphere, equal or better service and an overall better experience.

Zinburger is a nice restaurant with a fun atmosphere but I was a little disappointed with the burgers. I got the waitress recommended Zinburger which came with manchego cheese and Zinfandel onions but the bun was completely soggy and there wasn't much flavor in the beef. I also got the truffle fries which were really good. Overall, I think it's a nice place with okay food that is overpriced. Citizens Burger is much better in my opinion.

Stayed in Charlottesville 10 weeks. Went to Zinburger probably over a dozen times. For starters, they offer a military discount. Nice. Thanks, Zinburger! After trying probably a quarter of their menu, I've gotta say my absolute favorite is the Kobe Burger. It's worth the extra money. Yes, it's expensive, but it is DARN GOOD. None of the regular beef burgers could compare. The buffalo chicken burger is also crazy good. It was huge, but I finished it. Boy, did I. The Napa salad. YUM. So fresh it feels good. Those fancy almonds in there give it a really nice crunch. The MILKSHAKES. Oh my gosh. They're all amazing. Bars of Zin is a winner. Pricey but so so good. I also love their blackboard advertising changing specials each month. I would always take a look, and if it sounded good, it WAS good. Always. Zinburger keeps it real. Keeps evolving. And their service is always friendly. I never had an unhappy experience here and look forward to going back.

Burger was fine but nothing really special (especially for the price), service was alright, and the burgers don't come with sides--a side of fries is another $5 or something, which I think is kind of ridiculous. Much better use of $13-15 would be at Citizen Burger or even Boylan Heights. Their burgers are delicious, come with lots of extras for the prices, and sides. I wouldn't waste my time or money here again.

Food was very good. Had turkey bun less burger. Tea was great. The atmosphere equally as good Service was on the slow side which why I gave it 3 stars. Did not seem like any management was around which may be why service was slow

Super slow to get seated. I understand they were packed, but I counted 7 tables that were empty and no one was bussing them. Finally two girls came and did them all, I think one was a manager because she was in dressy clothes. From the time I put my name on the list until the time I got food in front of me it was over an hour and half. Wait time was suppose to be 20 minutes. I love the concept of ever thing made in house, but it was pricy and not all that great. Your meal only come the burger anything and everything else will cost extra (yup even your fires). So overall your burger meal will be about $25 plus. I got the regular burger added fries and coleslaw to share with my husband. I ordered my medium-well and it was pretty red inside, but I was so hungry by this time I just scraped it out and tried to eat around the red. The bun was soggy and the fries were greasy, but the coleslaw was great. My husband got a turkey burger with no cheese. It came with cheese (no problem he just pulled it off) but the meat was overly garlicky. I like garlic, but whoa that was a lot. They were nice enough to take that off our bill and he ordered something else. He ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich which is said the chicken was great, but the sauce had so much butter in it that it made took away from the sandwich. I would have given them a two star, but about 10-15 minutes after we ate there, my husband and I had sharp stomach pains and were severely ill for the rest of the night. Again, I liked the concept, the atmosphere, but thank goodness I didn't bring my kids; I would hate to have them as sick as I was from eating here. Ate here 1/17/15

It's tough to give a place one star, but this place was quite possibly the worst dining experience I ever had. After talking with the bartender for some time about the concept I was excited after learning about the food quality and I (initially) liked the atmosphere. My system for restaurant rating is based on 3 things: food, service & atmosphere. I can honestly say that Zin Burger failed on all three fronts. Fiance and I wanted to try the "Plain & Simple" I wanted to taste the quality of the meat that was bragged about, and I can EASILY justify a $10 burger, if the quality is right. The restaurant began to fill up as I finished my margarita and our food arrived five minutes after that... Our bartender didn't come back to ask if we wanted another drink or to check on our food at all. Our plates were completely empty for 20 minutes (drinks empty for at least 25) before being "checked on." Now onto the food portion, zucchini fries were good and worth the money, but that was the only thing. Our burger tasted like every burger I've ever had from a backyard pool party or bbq. Didn't come close to satisfying the hype we were led to believe we were about to receive. Lastly, the atmosphere was cool, BUT and this is a major BUT, the ambiance and "feel" of a place needs to adapt as the restaurant fills up i.e. dim the lights/turn up the music. I couldn't hear any music and the lights were uncomfortably bright. They were busy, so I was willing to take all these things with a grain of salt, but the manager wasn't doing ANYTHING to assist the servers, hosts & bartenders who were obviously struggling on a busy Sunday night. I wouldn't return if it was free.... I wouldn't return if I was paid. I hate writing a one star review, but man this place deserves it.

First time here. It was showering outside, and nothing beats a juicy burger on a cold day. Service - surprisingly good, sometimes the waiter even got too energetic. He literally gave us a 3-min passionate speech on the menu haha. Food - 4 star. A little too salty to me. My boyfriend got the weekly special, it was great. I don't recommend Ringers unless you are a huge fan of overflowing buffalo sauce in a burger. Price - I will have to say it is over-priced. We ordered two burgers, 1 green chili fries, and 1 beer. Altogether it cost us $50... Environment - open floor, kinda noisy.

Went there for the first time today. The food tasted amazing! I got the Sam burger and sweet potato fries and it was really good. But the server was awful and it's very OVER priced. $12 just for a burger and if you want fries its $5 extra.

They really sped up their service! the place was packed and in the past our food has taken ages, but tonight it took only 10 minutes. Definitely an improvement. I got the Farm salad and it was delicious! The salad is one of the most crisp and refreshing ones I've ever had and the avocado topped it off perfectly. I also tried their new menu item - spicy green chilli fries. Unlike their other basket of fries, this one comes in a much larger portion that easily feeds 4 people. The chipotle sauce and cheese was packed on slightly too thickly but they were still pretty good. Overall, great burger place! Definitely prefer Zin Burger to the local favorite, Citizen. They just have far more options at Zin and everything I've tried this far has been great!

I have been to Zinburger a few times and I must say the first time we went was the best. The first time we went was when they first opened and it was a great experience. Since then it hasn't been quite as good as the first time. I like the decor is has a very open space concept with a contemporary design. Everything is pretty much stainless steel with a new age look. However they are bordering on being a sports bar as in my opinion they have way too many televisions. I would guess about 10 to 15 TV's throughout. I have had their burger made with Kobe beef which is really delicious! The meat melts in your mouth. They charge five dollars extra for the extravagant meat, which I think is fair, but they ought to give you something with it. Nothing comes with the burgers no fries, no chips, no veggie ... Nothing! A little bit pricey for just the burger alone! I have also had their turkey burger which is definitely one of the best I've ever had! I also liked their Ahi Tuna Salad. I feel like they could have jazzed it up little bit for the price (a little bit boring & small) Their fries are really delicious with the truffle sauce! They are cut very thin and have just the right amount of crispiness! ZinBurger has a nice trendy atmosphere, with alot of hustle and bustle on Fridays and Saturdays. You can choose to sit at a booth, a table, at the bar, or outside where they have a fire pit in the winter or blast AC in the summer. I am guessing they do not pay their wait staff very much as they have a rather young crowd (which it's a hit or miss thing as to whether you get a good experienced wait person... or one right out of the gates!) I believe this place is trying to be an upscale burger café, i'm still not convinced they have hit the mark. Time will tell.

We ventured out to try something a little more upscale this Memorial day. The decor was stunning, very earthy and wood friendly. The ambiance was very loud bit it is a restaurant. We ordered loaded fries as appetizers as it is not included with burgers. They were very thin fries covered with cream cheese and bacon bits, taste was good, portion size and thin fries tended to be a bit mushy. I ordered bacon cheddar burger well done. My wife ordered fried chicken sandwich as she can't eat beef. Burger was medium cooked at best but since it was quality grass fed I continued and finished. Taste was good. Chicken was also good. Overall nice place. It will do well in Charlottesville but not my style I prefer Red Robin next time. Waiter was pleasant. Total bill was about $38 plus tip again little pricey for burger & fries.

Went on Mothers Day and loved everything about our experience! The hostess and waitresses are SO friendly and cheerful and gave my 3 year old an etch a sketch immediately upon walking in to keep him entertained. The restaurant is open and spacious inside and you never feel crammed. There is a ton of natural light and TV screens on every wall. The service was excellent. All our needs were met before we even had to ask, glasses were never empty, the food was fast and tasted amazing and the cookie dough shake was to die for. The chef/GM even came out and talked to us for a few minutes. I highly recommend for anyone seeking amazing customer service, atmosphere and food that is also very kid friendly.

Ok...so I was looking for a regular joint to have a burger and beer at, nothing crazy. But i have to say this place blew away my expectations. AMAZING burgers, awesome service and the breakfast burger was the best burger i EVAH had. Great place, ill be back again soon.

Always good! The service is great! The seating can be an issue at times ! I always get the zo burger medium rare ! We alway order slaw to go own burger. The zucchini fries are good for two. It's easy to over order! Portions are good! We had two zen burgers and a tuna burger ., with zucchini fries and slaw with a blue moon 20 oz for about $60ish

We were in the mood for a burger and did not feel like driving to citizen burger, so we decided to give zin burger a try. Initially we liked the open atmosphere but the food and service were subpar. The burgers were over cooked and the buns soggy. We ordered truffle fries and sweet potato fires. The sweet potato fries were bland. The truffle fires had hair in it...though they brought us another order we still ended up paying for it. I've never had a restaurant actually charge me for the item that had hair in it after I returned it. I don't think we will be going back.

Big space with a high ceiling; there's a bar with TVs and plenty of seats, and an outdoor seating area with a fire-pit. Things I loved: Half-off on all bottles of wine! And my breakfast burger - came with a fried egg, tons of avocado, and bacon on top - delicious. Other info: Good service; he was attentive and full of information about wines, his favorite burger, and the daily specials. I agree with other reviewers- it can get quite loud. It's not necessarily a bad thing - e.g. if you're sitting at the bar watching a game, there's nothing wrong with some background noise; but if you want a quite dinner with your mate, Zinburger might not be the right space, especially if it's a busy night. All in all, the dining experience was positive - seems like Zinburger will be a great dining option for those looking for a casual meal with friends or family.

Went for happy hour before a concert. Happy hour consisted of $5 basic burgers, half off fries and $1 off beer, wine and liquor. Had a very delicious drink called 'the girl next door' which was perfect on a hot summer day. Built my own burger which was perfectly cooked, juicy and left me wanting more. Great atmosphere and will definitely be visiting again when I'm in town.

So I went to this location again. I ordered the veggie burger which is not your run of the mill veggie burger. I asked the bartender if it were a black bean burger and she stated it had 21 ingredients and was almost like a french fry (odd). So I decided to give it a try. When it first came off the grill it was amazing but when it started to cool off the consistency was that of mashed vegetables (baby food). I also ordered the sweet potato fries. Pretty standard except they're served with a tatziki type sauce which would've been better with the burger than the fries. For desert I ordered the salted caramel shake which is exquisite! A must try if you have room :)

Zinburger has a lot of people working. There was one girl whose job was to open the door for me. Alright, Zinburger, how can I get that job? I sat at the bar and ordered the Kobe Burger (Kobe beef, cheddar cheese, wild mushrooms, mayo) medium rare and a sprite. My soda was woefully under carbonated; it tasted like I was drinking water with syrup. My burger came crazily fast. I swear it was only five minutes from me ordering to getting my burger. The burger was delicious, but it was so greasy that I started to feel slightly ill halfway through. The bottom bun was falling apart because it was so wet. I had to finish my burger with my fork and knife. By the end of my burger, I still thought it was delicious, but I felt like I needed to drink a lot of water and eat salads for the rest of my life. The same girl opened the door for me again as I was leaving. I wonder if she gets cold. Anyways, I would say that Zinburger is worth a try, but be prepared to be on an all-greens diet afterwards. It's just way too much grease.

When to go and what to order: 3-6 p.m. Happy Hour for the $5 plain burger special/fries and the drink discounts - I'm all about the Zucchini Fries because of the kick of garlic, salty parm and crunch from panko. When I went here recently with around 8-10 co-workers, we each got our own Zucchini Fries because they were that good. The burgers are decent but just a bit expensive at other times.

Ikea, burgers and wine - not a bad combination, just not over the top great. This place seems to strike a happy balance between appealing to university students and locals, so consequently isn't super inexpensive, but not pricey either. I would most certainly want to return to make the most of drink specials and with everything else going on at Barrack's Shopping Center, this is a nice addition to the bunch. While it seemed as if our server disappeared at one point, we did seem to luck out in being seated by the window near the bar, so there were plenty of employees walking around. They still have a few things to smooth out with staffing and service, but not a bad start. I am sure in a few months everything will run like clockwork, but if not, then they'll have a hard time. I was impressed that the kitchen went ahead and cut our two burgers in half and arranged them to share, per a request to share. A previous reviewer mentioned that there is competition on burger options around town and I will say that I prefer Citizen Burger, but the convenience factor will help this place succeed. The milkshakes were quite good, so I left happy, although the burger itself wasn't overly filling. Not a go out of your way destination, but certainly a place I wouldn't mind returning to if in the area.

I have to start by saying I loved Jack B. from Portland Oregon's review. He was especially harsh and a bit vulgar, but he summed up this place pretty darned well. I will be a little kinder because I don't care much about the décor unless the décor gets in the way of a practical meal. I didn't even notice or care much about many of the nuances Jack B. described, he is very observant. Three stars. Why? Burger was good, but too expensive on its own, fries and onion rings are way overpriced and portions small, and for that you pay like you are in a Michelin Star Restaurant. So here's the basics: Our service was attentive, we can only fault our server for forgetting lemon for the water initially. My wife asked for a tomato slice on her burger but that didn't happen out of the kitchen, the server had to bring it on a plate. The folks next to us were not so lucky on speed, they said they had been there 10-15 minutes and were still waiting for their food. It was not crowded so I don't know what the deal was. Our food came out right after theirs so something was off in the kitchen. So, imagine this...we ordered burgers! I won't go in to the specific burgers just the quality and such. Wife ordered medium well and she got well done, not overdone but more done than she ordered, but she really did like the burger. I ordered medium. This place boasts that they grind the burger daily so I wasn't scared. It was almost perfect, maybe a little under done but it was OK with me. Grinding your own meat...once through a ¼" die and handling the meat as little as possible is the way to a good burger and I think they achieve this here. A proper burger should be salted and peppered on both sides before hitting the griddle. Because people are unnecessarily freaked out about salt these days restaurants are omitting salt and pepper so much. I had to salt and pepper my burger...a shame. I also had to re-assemble the jalapenos on my diablo burger because I think it is taught in culinary school as well as every fast food restaurant that ingredients must be haphazardly clumped and thrown together on sandwiches. They teach the same thing to pizza chefs I think. We ordered onion rings. The server recommended their house made ranch dressing and she was right, that was a great dipper. They normally serve the onion rings with barbeque sauce...a bizarre and just plain wrong thing to do. The rings were tasty but separated from the coating so they could work on that recipe and fry method a bit. Not many onion rings for $6 bucks though. So, a good burger, very juicy and tender but nothing to blow you away. You can get a great burger at many other restaurants in the area and they come with something on the side included like chips at least, usually fries. This place is for people that simply like to spend more than they have too. Decent food, just too expensive.

Went yesterday 1/15/2015 I got the simple burger it only came with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, I asked if they could add avocado, bacon, and cheese all of that cost extra. When I got my foods all it was the burger with what I wanted on it. it did not even come with french fries. It was a waste of money. this place gets too much hype. It is not worth it save you money. I can't believe I blew $20 just for a burger. I rather go to Outback and get a full meal for $10 rather than blowing $20 at this place

With all of the buzz surrounding its opening, Zinburger made its way to the top of my to-try list really quickly. I was intrigued by the hype for two reasons. First, it's not like Charlottesville is in need of either a burger bar (Citizen Burger, Boylan Heights, Riverside Lunch, White Spot, etc.) or a wine bar (Mas, Orzo, Travinia, etc.). I could understand excitement surrounding a new salad bar, which C'ville surprisingly doesn't have, but not this. Also, Zinburger is located in the oh-so-unsexy Barrack's Shopping Center--sandwiched between McDonald's, Burger King, and Harris Teeter. I can't think of a worse spot to spend an evening than on the side of Rt 29. So--my naive self figured--the food must be really really good. Right? Wrong! Well, mostly wrong. You can get a better burger at Five Guys. You can get a better veggie burger at Boylan. And, if truffle fries are your thing (they're mine), go to Citizen Burger. It's not that Zinburger is bad, it's just that it's not as good as other places in a 5 mile radius. And, with chains like Shake Shack and Umami Burger in existence, it's hard to feel anything but disappointment here. That being said, I was happy with my glass of Malbec and the space was pretty cool. The heated outdoor patio is also pretty neat if you ignore the views of the highway. Our waiter/bartender (we sat at the bar) was also extremely nice and did not bat an eye when I ordered the El Diablo, but instead of the beef patty, a veggie patty, and hold the jalapeños, but add avocado. Yea, I'm that girl...

the price was way too much for a burger! but the flavor made up for it! it's a try it once kind of place b/c of the price, so we made sure we tried as much as we can since it'll be several months or a year 'til we ear here again. husband made his burger, and the ingredients were all fresh! i had the ahi tuna burger, which was AMAZING! the truffle fries were sprinkled with cheese which tasted great, and the husband had the sweet potato fries which tasted even better. their shakes were normal, nothing special, but they had a lot of flavors. the service was great when we arrived, but once we received our food, the manger came by once to check up on us, and then we were ignored the rest of the time. our drinks were empty and we couldn't see our server for a good 20min (apparently she was eating her lunch while she had a table). we had to wave down a bus girl to ask for someone to fill our drinks.

Not usually the best service, but they'll make up for it. There was one day we waited twenty minutes for a waiter to come by to take take our orders, but then the manager comped our meal without us even saying anything! The food is delicious. The green chile fries are my favorite, and the milk shakes are out of this world!

Terrible service...... Very understaffed. Our drink order took 35 mins to arrive. The descriptions of the burgers were better than they actually came out. Burger was served room temp after we waited 45 mins for it.... So it was obviously sitting there for a long time before our overworked & unapologetic waitress delivered it. At the very least we should have been apologized to & drinks should have be comped. First time in my life I have not left a tip. Note: to management - schedule extra staff - a lot - when you know there is a huge event at john Paul jones arena .

I came here for the first time for a friend's birthday party and we had a first-class experience. Our sever was on point the entire time and although there were a lot of us, he got all of our orders (some of them complex) completely correct. Drinks were always filled, and he even took the liberty of grabbing some candles for our girl's cake (we didn't ask him to)! He had the check already split for us (perfectly despite our large number) in a very timely manner and before we asked for it, but he didn't rush us at all. I got my leftover food wrapped and it came with all of the side condiments I had asked for during my meal! The burgers themselves are as good as they get and their fries are pretty awesome as well! I got a double chocolate milkshake and it was the best chocolate milkshake I've had.... ever! The only thing I hate is how expensive they were. A little pricy for a college student as you have to buy the burger and fries separately (fries start at $6 as do burgers and shakes) but it is well worth the extra money, especially if you split things! Portions are very shareable, in my opinion.

The food was great, the waitress was great, the management was terrible! I was very disappointed, I previously ate at Zinburger with a friend and was very impressed. So much so, that I decided to bring my parents there for an early dinner. Since they were traveling, they had our dog with them, and the management was extremely rude about the dog situation. Instead of politely telling us that the dog could stay as long as he sat on the outside of the deck fences, the manager grumbled "Oh no no no, we cannot have this" and snarkily asked if he was a service dog and stated the rules of the establishment. We respected the rules and put the dog on the other side of the fence, but felt very uncomfortable. Furthermore, the management failed to notify a waiter that we were in fact seated. We had to wait about 15 minutes just to get drinks, when the waitress apologized profusely and explained that the manager did not tell her we were out here.

Go for the breakfast burger! It is my go to burger. It has bacon, avocado, a fried egg...it's like heaven on a plate. If you are thinking about fries, I would recommend the loaded fries. They are large enough for 2-3 people to share. You also have to try a milkshake during one of your visits. They are delicious!

After hearing all the hype regarding Zinburger, I decided to check it out for myself during restaurant week. I expected extravagence and all I got was a decent burger and fries. Not saying their food taste bad, but for what it's priced at, there are definitely better options out there. I do appreciate Zinburger's use of organic and fresh ingredients, but the "Local" burger at the Lightwell Tavern in Orange does even better in terms of price and a side is included. I might be back to Zinburger because of the excellent customer service I received when I visited and their milkshakes, but not necessarily for their burgers or fries.

Ok, let me preface this review by saying, don't come here if your not comfortable spending at least $25 dollars for a meal. That said, the burger was cooked to order and tasted better then most area restaurants. -Skip the fries- not worth the time and money!! Salad was above par!! In fact it was delicious. The milkshake I'm told was also a hit out of the ballpark. Down sides, Way To Loud!! The wait staff does not communicate very well with the kitchen or actively listen. So be prepared to repeat yourself!! They really are intrusive to a fault when trying to provide great service!! This place is a 3 but could quickly turn into a 4 or higher with some serious changes to the beer menu. I get it you sell wine but give me a better choice then Coors Light!! Maybe ownership could jog down the parking lot to Brixx just to get a better idea. I'll be back for a salad & burger.

Was really in the mood for a burger and came here to fill my cravings. This place seemed a little pricey, but a good burger is always worth the mkney. Ordered the breakfast burger, and split the mac n cheese and truffle fries with my husband. Now, I ordered this burger medium rare, and it came out with a thin line of pink in the middle. The bread was drenched in grrase, and it wasn't from the burger juice goodness. It was nasty oil. And the egg on top, was well done, and culinary enthusiasts know that the point of having an egg on a burger is for the yolk to sauce it. The truffle fries had a great flavor but we're not drained and therefore soggy. The mac n cheese tasted like stouffers. This place doesn't even come close to citizen burger bar, and is more expensive. If you have a craving to fill, this place will disappoint.

Amazing service from our waitress Sarah. The burgers were cooked to order and delicious. I also got the double truffle fries and they had a good flavor but they were a little greasy or else it would by 5 stars.

Nice open restaurant, and good menu options. There isn't much else to offer besides their menu. No live music, hardly any tvs (they have some but it doesn't seem like they get any channels or that the tvs work). Great for a quick lunch and friendly service.

The definition of 2 stars on yelp is "Meh. I've experienced better". Zinburger is the type of place that really frustrates me. Everything was alright or whatever but I was surprised when we got our check. $60 for two burgers, an order of fries and two draft beers? I don't mind dropping money on a good meal but this is the type of just ok food that the next day when your coworkers ask about it you shrug, say it was ok and sort of pricey and you probably won't be back.

I went despite the reviews that were posted and I was extremely pleased. It happened to be half price wine night and the waiter was full of useful information with recommendations and popular choices. The wine arrived at the proper temp and was delicious. I liked the variety of prices on wine, though half price helps. I shared the Zinburger and fries with my son. The fries are shoestring, but I thought the burger was delicious. I had it as is, so with the onions, manchego, etc. You couldnt necessarily tell it was Manchego, but it was cheesy, well cooked, delivered promptly and delicious. I am only visiting Charlottesville, but with the right vibe, good beer and wine selection and good food, I would definitely return again.

This place was great. It was much bigger than I assumed, with plenty of booths and a nice bar area. They have the special burger of the month and the milkshake of the month written on a board to the right of the entrance, so when you're walking in be sure to look at it in case your server forgets to mention it. The wine choices are pretty great and decently priced, and they have a wine special on Wednesdays (half price bottles I believe) so definitely make a point of trying a few. I also highly recommend the milkshakes-they are absolutely divine, and go great with the burgers, which are also amazing. The fries were pretty good and are worth the $5, though I feel like if you're paying $10 for a burger the fries should already come with it. The service was good but the servers are little overly attentive--I felt like I barely had time to tell the first server that the food was great before another one came by to ask how we were doing. It was nice at first but by the end of the meal I was a little annoyed and just wanted to enjoy my burger interruption free. Overall, I had a good experience and will definitely be back.

I really enjoy Zinburger, but it's definitely overpriced if you don't go during happy hour. The happy hour deals are great, though. That said, the burgers, fries, and shakes are all delicious. The ambiance is great, and the outdoor seating area is lovely. Join the rewards club - you get a $10 gift certificate after you spend $100 (minus alcohol purchases) plus a free shake on your birthday.

Although there is a lot of staff, the service was very slow. Indoors there are TVs everywhere, which to me is a deal breaker and not congruent with the high prices and wine bar name. The outdoor seating area is very nice. The music is very loud both inside and outside. The veggie burger was mushy and I do not recommend it. The fries are sold separately and the waiter said they would be enough for 3 or 4 people, but it was a small serving equivalent to what you would get on your plate for free elsewhere. The fries themselves were microscopic, too small to dip in ketchup. The ladies room handicapped stall is creepy and I'll leave it at that. Generally this place is overpriced, the food is not very good, and the service was sub-par. I would recommend Pasture instead.
