This place is delicious. It's a cute little hole in the wall that packs a punch. They are great for dessert, a snack or a meal at any time downtown. I have to fight myself to not always just stop by when I'm in the area.

Gluten-free and vegan friendly! I opted for the veggie + cheese (feta) savory crepe instead of the tofu crepe based on popularity. My veggie crepe was very good. It could have used a bit of Mediterranean seasoning or maybe just some salt and pepper (some bites without the feta made it taste a little bland), to give it 5 stars--but all in all this place seems like a quick, yummy, healthy option for lunch and I'll be going back.

Quirky, YES! charming YES! Yet maybe because I choose savory over sweet, that I was disappointed. Per the menu, written on a chalk boards hanging outside the order windows, all the food is locally sourced. I ordered a sausage, cheese, spinach and onion crepe. Made at order after a 12 minute wait, the crepe was hot and wrapped in paper with a napkin. The filling fell to the bottom, it became fluid-like, there was so much crepe to get through. The crepe was just a thin grilled pancake, the filling was a glop of cheese, uncooked (becoming cooked by virtue of being in the crepe) spinach and the unremarkable sausage bits. It was a soggy, gloppy, unremarkable handheld mess, that tasted like a pile of cheese & meat that I could have microwaved at home.

What a cute little place! It's all outdoor seating, and you order through a small window on a little brick building. I ordered the Return of the King (chicken, avocado, and feta) and Chocolate Delights (Nutella and strawberries). The Return of the King is DELICIOUS. Every bite was exploding with flavor even though it was a simple crepe. The Chocolate Delight got quite messy, but you can't go wrong with chocolate and strawberries! Quite a hip place to get a quick bite.

Zero stars but I couldn't post until I clicked at least one. I ordered a ham egg and cheese. The egg is raw. Not undercooked. Raw. Like she cracked it open and folded up the crepe and put it in the box. Of course they are now closed. $2.75 for 10 min parking. Almost $10 for a raw egg. Super pregnant super hungry and seriously irritated.

Food - We ordered the Nutella crepe with bananas and strawberries and the Return of the King. I was quite surprised at how much of each ingredient was put into each crepe - the owner was definitely generous with the portions and made it well worth the money. The Return of the King was somewhat dry but there's nothing a sip of water can't fix. Overall the crepe was very savory and the mix of chicken, feta and avocado were very compatible. The Nutella crepe was the star of the show though - it stole my heart! The best crepe I've had on the East Coast by far. The pictures I posted does not do the crepes justice - don't judge a book by its cover! Price - Like I said the prices were really affordable for portion given to us. I couldn't complain! Service - The lady that made the crepe and took our order was very nice and approachable. Once the crepe was done we just had to go get it. Overall, this is probably my favorite crepe spot by far on the East Coast, I would definitely come back again if I am in the area.

It's an adorable setting with its vine-covered walls, chalk menu and cozy seating. The menu looked promising with its savory and sweet options, along with the rave reviews on Yelp. Ultimately, I found the food tasty but this was not my fav crepe experience. What worked: *Cute ambiance (see above) *Quick service - The whole experience of ordering, waiting AND eating didn't take more than 20 minutes with two other people ahead of me and my husband. *Affordable pricing - For the portion size and quality of ingredients, it's amazing nothing cost more than about $5-8. *Fresh, local, quality ingredients like the sausage from Rock Barn. (I ordered the Southside of Heaven with creamy/buttery Brie instead of the Cheddar, and it was divine combo with the wilted spinach and slightly caramelized onions.) What didn't work: *I understand that they wrap the crepe in a cone of wax paper for convenience so that it's walkable, but - as other reviewers have pointed out - all the liquid pools into the bottom, making it soggy. I also don't like crepe on its own, so I ended up discarding the first few bites/top portion of the wrapped crepe cone because it's void of the precious filling. I really would have preferred to eat this with knife and fork. *I also agree with another reviewer about the Banana and Nutella not having enough banana. I also missed the whipped cream as a topping. And this was not only difficult, but messy to eat, for me and my husband, as the wrapped cone constantly oozed of chocolate.

Part of the prize with The Flat is finding it, and making it like your own special discovery, a la the Secret Garden. It's a totally unexpected and quirky (and cash-only) crêpe operation that is quite literally a hole-in-the-wall that you find behind a vine-covered wall. Whether you're craving a sweet or a more savory crêpe, The Flat has got you covered with their varieties of the famous French pancake. There's also some limited bench- and bar-style seating within the small, semi-covered footprint that The Flat occupies, but you can also opt to take your folded pancake to go (it's packaged to allow that). I think I had the notion that with such a charming discovery of this cool spot that the lady working behind the window would have been a bit more loquacious and friendly herself, alas she had taken the French thing quite literally with her crêpe business and was quite serious, but she got the job done quickly and efficiently. The menu is written out on a chalkboard, which adds to the charm, and remember that it's cash only. They also sell a limited selection of beverages. My husband and I shared his all-time favorite type of crêpe, a la banana and Nutella, but we were a bit disappointed in the lack of banana and the OD on Nutella (it's possible, trust me). The crêpe pancake itself was also a little too thick, especially at the folded bottom where it turned into a gloppy mess with the Nutella, so we didn't finish it. However, it's definitely a cool little spot that's worth a try for either a portable small lunch or a special dessert/snack. Grab some cashola and try it out!

Little dive in a small brick building that looks like it was built for one of the Three Little Pigs, I can't wait for my next visit to C-Ville. My absolute must stop here fave.

This place is amazing. We try to go every time we are in town. Unfortunately, just about every single time we're in town, The Flat is closed. It's kind of impressive how often it's closed when we try to come. Definitely worth going, but definitely call before you show up.

  • Diana X.

The crepes are well-done and fillings are pretty good. It would be nice if they offered more variety on the menu for both entree and dessert crepes though. I also like the small hole-in-the-wall setting and reasonable prices.

  • Hanna H.

Though you could simply pass by this little eatery with one single glance, do not be fooled by this one-windowed creperie tucked behind the leaves and trees. The Flat's has some of the most mouth-watering crepes - both savory and sweet. A personal favorite - the Temptation of Adam (think cheesy, meaty sweetness wrapped up in a single bite). With its reasonable prices and fairly versatile menu, The Flat is a steal!

  • Wayne B.

My crepe was not nearly cooked enough. Contents were just heated past cold. Cheese wasn't melted. Very disappointing. Also wouldn't give me a cup of water because of some policy. That alone would be enough to give them a 1 star rating.

Fantastic! Drove by this hole-in-the-wall while looking for parking in C'ville. Perfect crepes!!

  • Rosemary L.

Almost missed it as it is hidden under bricks... but definitely a rewarding trip! Love their lemon crepe as dessert, so refreshing. Reasonable price, but be aware - cash only!! (what a tragedy for people like me who seldom brings cash around) Also a bit chilly in winter since there's no indoor/outdoor seating. But this place is divine. Can't wait to try more options on their menu!!

  • Zoe Z.

It's not high tea kinda crepe, but more of a Southern, bluegrass and homey version. We tried the Southside and Less ordinary. It feels great holding a handful of comfort food! sausages, chicken, eggs, spinach, feta... mostly healthy organic ingredients and at a price so affordable. The cute chalkboards, little house setting also add to the character of this place.

  • Jennifer M.

Ok, I admit. I miss this place and should have come more before graduating. Went back to visit recently and the really nice girl made us 5 crepes 5 minutes before closing. So messy to eat since all the chocolate drips and pools down at the bottom.

  • Joann B.

Sometimes the wait here can be pretty substantial, but their crepes are so tasty. I've not been skimped on fillings and it's always fresh. The savory crepes are soft and cheesy - always a plus! I ordered their crepe with gran marnier once and I'm convinced they poured a whole travel sized bottle of it into my crepe. It was really good and creamy, but I couldn't eat this fast enough before the liqueur was leaking out the bottom. Sadly, the sidewalk enjoyed half of my gran marnier. There's not a whole lot of seating here, so you can either walk and eat or enjoy your crepe sitting on the curb. They really do deserve 4 stars, but the wait makes me downgrade them to a 3. This place is a must try!

  • Anzie L.

Great place to grab a quick bite. It's located behind the Jefferson on the downtown mall. I ordered the Temptation of Adam, a savory crepe with apple and Brie. I opted to add ham for a few extra bucks. It was delicious - the cheese was melted and creamy, lots of ham with crisp green apple. The crepe was more than enough for lunch. I would highly recommend, especially if you want to grab something to go. I can't wait to go back and try their dessert crepes.

  • Tiffany N.

Yummy crepes. Cute tiny brick building. Wide overhang that protected me in a driving rainstorm while I ate my yummy crepe, and chatted with strangers. Loved it!

  • Amanda N.

NOTE: THEY DO NOT TAKE CARD. So make sure you have cash on you! I always make this a must-go to when I go Downtown - in fact, I'll go Downtown just for this place. Seriously. Best crepes ever. The menu changes once in a while depending on what's in season, but they keep most of their items. Prices range from ~$3 - $8 depending on what you get. Sweet crepes tend to be cheaper than the savory ones. Service can be a bit slow sometimes if it's just one person working with a long (more than five people) line. Great to eat on a cold day.

  • Taylor M.

This is a neat little shop, although only accepting checks and cash is a negative. The crepe I had, though, was very good. I tried the nutella and strawberry and really enjoyed it. The portion size is generous for the price. I recommend stopping by! It's off the main strip, on a side street.

Found on Saturday when we had to stop into the City Farmer's market for a quick errand before going to run a wedding at a vineyard and were in desperate need of brunch. Managed to scrounge up enough cash so we could try this place out. Got the Prince of Denmark, wife got the Greene Eggs, both were fresh made and insanely delicious. Short wait, cash only, totally worth it. I'm only sad that they aren't open Sundays so we could get one on our way out of town.

The review right below was written on my first try, and I unfortunately gave only two stars at that time. However, the following review on my second try bumped it up to 4 stars. _______________________________________________________________ Darn!, I don't understand why I have such a high expectation for everything. I think I got so spoiled for the past 4-5 years living in NYC and traveling all over the Europe. The crepe was ok, but I had much better ones in Dubai, Montreal, and in France of course! My crepe had no creamy gooey decadence. Then, what's the point of eating crepes? Rosemary lemonade was good though, a bit sweet- which made up the lack of the sweet part in crepe. Crepe was very fresh too. I hope they open earlier though. I hoped to have it as a breakfast, but couldn't because it opens at 11AM. Oh, I had an apple cinnamon crepe. _________________________________________________________________ Ok! After the first visit, I felt this place need a second chance! It sure is unfair of me to compare this store with other international stores, and I knew the second try will be much better. This time, I ordered two crepes (to really make sure!): one was called, "The Awesome," and the other one was a regular sweet crepe with dark Chocolate and strawberry. "The Awesome" was beyond my expectation! Now, I wonder if it is all about expectation. It had ham, garlic, spinach, onion, cheddar, and swiss cheese. I am usually not so crazy about ham, but this ham was sooo good (I hear VA is famous for ham). Texture was great, and all other vegetables were well mixed with the right amount of cheese. Yes, my dessert crepe also satisfied me this time. I asked the cook to make it "sweet enough" this time, and yummm... with freshly baked thin layer of crepe skin I was able to taste what I was looking for. They were so warm and melting in my mouth. What a productive day! My pregnant taste buds are all very happy now! check out the photos! ;)

Just love! The place is precious. The crepes are perfect and the combinations they offer are wonderful. This is exactly the type of business location I dream of owning. This is now a must stop when I'm in Charlottesville.

  • Kelsi G.

Their crepes are deeeeeeeeliciousss! I've only had their savory kinds, because I always get too full afterwards to try a dessert one :( But my favorite they've had was the chicken avocado and...some kind of cheese. But it was ssooooo good! The warm cheese with the creamy avocado all together which chicken in a crepe, I almost didn't need the chicken. I've tried a bite of my friends' dessert ones and they were also really good, they put so much chocolate in, it gets pretty messy but delicious :) Downside is it takes awhile, especially if you go during the farmer's market. I usually get it to-go since there's not really alot of seating options either.

This little hole in the wall offers made to order crepes. I love to ask for a mix of white and dark chocolate with strawberries-- this is basically the only crepe I ever get because it's so good! It's just a great combo of bitterness and sweetness. It's not on the menu so just ask =] Unfortunately, besides the nutella and chocolate crepes, I haven't really liked any of their dessert or savory crepes. Their savory crepes just aren't memorable. I'm not particularly fond of savory crepes in general, however so it's definitely a factor in my judgement. The crepe itself is made very well--thin, delicate, and soft. My French friend told me that they are comparable to what you can find in France--- so definitely props to them for making them correctly! Crepes range from about $4-8 so they are cheaper than restaurants that offer crepes but a little pricey for a grab and go snack. The crepes are a good size though and worth their size. Though it may take some time to get your order, you literally see them working through the little window so I really appreciate that. I wouldn't go out of the way just to get crepes, especially since it is in a really inconvenient location downtown, but If I'm in the area I will definitely stop by! Food: 3 Value: 3 Service: 3 Overall: 3

  • Emari H.

I've had better. Wait was long, crepe was tasty but they put a whole bar of chocolate it tasted like just a warm bar of chocolate. Maybe fruits & Nutella would be better? But they said the only "fruit" they have is strawberries... Meh.

  • Sophia A.

The prices can seem a bit high and the service can be a bit slow-two hard negatives to street food, but a crepe from The Flat is not only delicious, it is an experience. The location is adorable and the crepe creations can satisfy any urge-sweet or hearty. I definitely recommend it!

  • LanChi N.

Not a bad place for a quick snack the Temptation of Adam was actually more filling then I thought it would be. The apples were sweet and tangy and the brie was slightly melty and creamy.Although the Brie could've been a bit more melty and the apples could've been distributed a little better so that you get a bit of both in one bite.Crepe has great texture and flavor however it could've a bit crispier on the edges. For about $6.00 you can't get a better deal for a mini lunch on the go.Plus the quality of the ingredients and so fresh you can taste it. I think I'll have to come back to try a sweet one next.

  • Mirela T.

Itching for a quick dessert? I'd recommend this place. You'll have your crape in less than 3 minutes. Stopped here on our way through Charlottesville and we thought it served it's purpose. It is a very small place, ordering is done outside. Essentially it's like a little shack. I had the Nutella and Banana crepe which was very taste, i would've like it to be a bit more crispy, but don't you worry i ate it all!

    (4)
  • Jennifer V.

Nutella and strawberry crepe was perfect, and it was a very good value. Good service, too. Will definitely come again!

    (5)
  • Beatrice P.

Cute little shack with outdoor seating. Since there are only max of 2 workers at a time and everything is made fresh, the wait for your food can be long. Although always good, the quantity of filling can vary a lot. Also they sometimes run out of ingredients.

You will NOT find a better creperie without a ticket to Paris or Montreal or Quebec. Prices are unbelievably reasonable and the savory crepes are creative, cheesy, meaty, creamy, inspiring enough to drive 3 hours to get to on a rainy day. The sweet crepes, basic nutella and nutella and banana, simply wonderful. You will pay 3x as much for a food truck crepe in DC so get in a rent-a-car, take in Thomas Jefferson's house, feast and then take away some crepes!! Even though a dedicated fan from far away, I visited in a downpour with many, many children, and wished there was more overhang and seating that was not soaked. Oh to crave a sunny day! Atmosphere was perfect, anyhow; reminded me of years in Paris. Crepe Maitresse was talkative and fun to banter with; do remember to engage with her as she is well-traveled, well-educated, and fun! Crepes were phenomenal. Anything with spinache, chicken, ham, oh my god, just order a savory crepe and you will NEVER order fast food again!!!!! Sweet crepes are fantastic of course. But consider the "AWESOME"

Nutella and banana crepe, CMON, when would you ever make it yourself and you know just the sound of it is already delicious. Strawberries and chocolate also a plus.

Great for a late night sweet/snack fix. I love crepes and this place does them right. I hope the Flat is here forever.

So good. Haven't been in a few years since I graduated UVA. Stopped in today and was reminded how amazing it is. The Brie, apple and chicken crepe is definitely my favourite. Must try this little tiny place!

Stopped by this small little crepe shop on the way back from visiting Monticello. Definitely lives up to the hype as the ingredients are fresh, the serving size generous, and the price just right. Would definitely recommend Chicken, Avocado, Mushroom, & Swiss for savory and Strawberry & Nutella for sweet. If only it weren't so far...

I was really looking forward to visiting this place. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience and was very disappointed. I stopped by on a Saturday morning and they were of course busy with the City Market across the street. Their website has a large menu that I glanced at because I made the mistake of assuming the entire menu would be posted there or at minimum they would have a laminated print out or something. That is not the case. There's several options posted on the outside of the shack, barely a fraction of what's online. I asked the cashier what kind of fruits they had available at the time and with an eye roll, I got "bananas, apples, and strawberries". I asked if they had coffee, like their website states. Even though I saw the coffee maker behind her, she replied no they did not have coffee. I still really wanted to like this place, so my boyfriend and I both ordered banana and nutella crepes. Fifteen minutes or so later they were ready. The crepes smelled good, but were mediocre at best. I would have definitely enjoyed the crepe more if the bananas were actually sliced and not just chunks. I hate to say this, but there was way too much nutella. I actually only had a few bites and handed my crepe over to my boyfriend who will eat anything sweet. Maybe I was bitter because of the poor service, but this place does not live up to any crepes I have had in my travels. The next morning, I made better crepes at home and enjoyed a cup of coffee with it as well. Not worth the price, the wait, or the know-it-all cashier.

Pure delicious delight on a cold winter night in Cville!! This place is sooooo goood!! Too bad they close so early. Yes, they are totally overpriced, but what crepe place isn't? Every now and then, it's nice to treat yourself and spend some time with friends enjoying some great crepes at this place. I love the sweet crepes so much that I have, unfortunately, yet to try the savory ones. My personal fav is banana and nutella and brown sugar and butter is pretty tasty too! Beware with that last one, the butter is bound to drip and it WILL stain your clothes, so be super duper careful to spare your favorite jeans lol. I've seen it happen to friends too many times. And for those who don't know, this is just a little hole-in-the-wall (literally) on the outside of the downtown mall with a few bench-style seats, but half of the people end up standing. Service is very fast, so that's a definite plus!

    (5)
  • Mary M.

This place is worth driving down from DC on a Friday night rather than Saturday if you are going for the weekend. Why? The portions are generous enough to get a full meal if you order a savory crepe, or to split if you are getting a sweet crepe. The prices are more than fair for what you get. The ingredients are always fresh, and you can tell because you can see them make your crepe. It's open til 11pm on Friday and Saturday, but closed Sunday and Monday (like many food places in C-ville).

    (5)
  • Maria A.

Get a dessert crepe or a dinner crepe or a lunch crepe. Excellent. Love it with nutella. This is almost literally a hole in the wall (a cute one) -- there is about one outdoor table so expect to walk around downtown with your crepe or take it home.

    (4)
  • Chris T.

Stopped there today after driving down from DC to meet family this afternoon. Got the Temptation of Adam (Brie and Apples) and a Crêpes Sucrè. They were absolutely delicious. If I lived in the area, I would be there a few times a week. They were made quickly with all fresh ingredients. VERY reasonably priced. What more could you ask for?

    (4)
  • Lin C.

A fantastic place with fresh crepes and fast service. The only downside are that there isn't enough seating for a party of any size, although that's what you get with a takeaway restaurant. Delicious, enticing crepes, good for any time of day!

    (4)
  • Glen C.

    Again, over-rated.

    (3)
  • Jessica L.

I have tried their apple pie crepe, their Nutella and Strawberries crepe, and their dark and white chocolate crepe. All three were pretty good, except I think the apples in the apple pie crepe could have been cooked down more. The crunchiness of the apple was not a good texture combination with the airiness of the crepe. The line is always long, and for $6/7 per crepe I'd rather save my time and money and grab a sweet bite at Splendora down the block. I've only gone several times for the groups I was with, but I could personally go without!

    (3)
  • Shari S.

Their crepes are seriously the best. Sweet or savory, infinite numbers of combinations. They're just that good. I only wish they had more seating area (seating is limited to the outside patio, which is very small). No trip to Charlottesville is complete without a stop at The Flat.

    (4)
  • Mary L.

Once upon a time when my bf and I first started dating, a good friend of mine at UVA had to give her stamp of approval. We decided to make a day of it by eating our way through Charlottesville and then meeting up with her to see if the approval stamp would be dished out. We made a stop at the dumpling place, and the gelato place and though we were stuffed, we couldn't leave without getting some crepes from The Flat. I love crepes and these are so fresh and made in front of you. They were also huge. They come stuffed with everything under the sun. We got some dessert crepes (nutella and banana and lemon and sugar) and we got some savory crepes. I think we got a spinach, chicken, feta stuffed crepe. Who knows, it was absolutely delicious! We left Charlottesville that day completely satisfied and, the bf got the stamp of approval. :)

    (5)
  • Maria P.

Crepe was definitely not worth the 15 minute wait. Doughy. No browning at all. Wrap not substantial enough to keep it from leaking onto hands and clothes. Had to eat half of it to get to any sugar/lemon flavor and the first bite of that had a seed. Did not meet expectations.

  • Anna B.

My favorite little hole in the wall of a restaurant! I usually visit this creperie after a nice little stroll along the Downtown Mall in the springtime and I must confess that I usually only get the dessert crepes. My favorite by far is the nutella and banana combination, but really, is it ever possible for paired nutella with anything to be bad?

    (5)
  • Roc G.

Located right off the downtown mall near the parking structures lies this little brick gem. Generally I would gravitate towards the savory options but here I go for the sweet. The nutella and banana is always a winner. I've also added cayenne pepper to that combo as well and its not only sweet but also hot. The other is the brown sugar and butter. Seriously... WTF... it's like a food woobie. So comforting its like being in the womb. Grubs ~

  • Laura H.

Two words: VERY GOOD I got the chicken, mushroom, avocado, and cheese crepe and it was such a good combination of flavors! Not only was the portion big but there was a lot of filling! I definitely will be back to try their other flavors especially the sweet ones! The only down side is that they only accept cash or checks.

  • A G.

I have mixed feelings about The Flat. On one hand, the crepes are amazing. I love them. On the other hand, it's always closed when I seem to have a crepe craving. Can't count the number of times (days, nights, weekday, weekend...) when I've walked over there only to find it closed.

    (3)
  • Leslie K.

'Creperies' is a category on Yelp? Hot dog! No, I mean, hot crepe! The average crepe is about $5-$8 and it's a whole meal. They stuff these things with food. They have things like chicken, turkey, ham, vegetables and cheese. Then they have dessert crepes which can include nutella, fruit, butter, cinnamon, all kinds of things. You pick your ingredients and they take your name and call you when your order is ready. If you have a strange name, I recommend giving initials. The place is basically a hole in the wall. There are a couple of benches and some tables but it's all outdoor seating and it can get crowded on nights and weekends. They have good extended hours on weekends. I think this is the only place in Charlottesville that does crepes exclusively. Check it out, it's really tasty.

    (5)
  • Amy H.

What a great place! Their crepes are tender and their filling always generous. It's hard to beat their nutella and fresh strawberry crepe. The building is really neat, but they have limited seating. The wait is a bit, but that's only because they make the crepes to order and huge. They also make savory crepes (i.e. cheese and veggie style), which seem like they would be pretty good. A must try in Charlottesville!

    (5)
  • Chuck F.

Delicious! And Vegan-friendly! (though you spend an extra buck for vegan crepes). Plenty of options for all - perfect for desert - they offer lunch-type crepes, but I think they make their mark on desert.

I parked at the garage across the street and the friendly people here sent me to CVS to get my parking validated. When I left the garage, the attendant didn't look customer-service-polite-happy, but -remarkably-genuinely-happy! It was so pleasant and surprising! I just had to get that off my chest. Anywho... crepes! They were good! I got the chocolate and toasted almond. The crepe wasn't overly chewy like some that I've had and the filling was quite enjoyable. I could imagine myself upgrading this to 4 stars if I were to try a few more of their crepes.

Ordered the Southwest to Heaven (Savory) Crepe. Was able to custimize my order - replaced the feta cheese with guryere. Person behind the counter was friendly and service was quick. Large portion - bigger portion than the Sweet crepes. Tried the Nutella with Banana and it was tasty but I don't really have a sweet tooth so I preferred the SW 2 Heaven. Cute space; take out only. Small seating area and self service complementary water available.

I went there before a show at Live Arts and had the Babes in the Wood (local) sausage crepe. Delicious! Also, there was a LOT of sausage in the crepe, so I definitely got my money's worth. The only bummer was that the sausage grease came out of the bottom of the paper wrapper unexpectedly and fell on my dress. The crepes are hard to eat by hand, maybe it would be better served on a plate? But they have a very 'to-go, handheld' food vibe. They also have different drinks each time I go there...I had the mint limeade last time, very tasty! I would go to The Flat more often, but parking/hours make it less convenient. Great place to go before a show/concert, on a day with good weather, when you are already downtown.

This place is adorable! Often involves long lines, and waiting in the cold or the heat, but definitely worth it. Savory and sweet crepes are very tasty. I wish it had more seating and better hours, but otherwise it is my favorite post-run snack.

The dessert crepes here are delicious. My favorite is the dark chocolate one with strawberries and bananas (yummm). However, I've heard mixed things about their savory crepes, and at $6/crepe (albeit a huge crepe), it can be pricey. There is very limited seating, service is slow because only one crepe is being made at a time, and parking can be a hassle.

(Cue music from 2001: Space Odyssey) Behold, between giant structures of steel and sprawling city streets, there lies a brick hut, small in stature but titanic in taste. It is The Flat, and peering through the lone window framed in a smokey din, one can taste fresh confections with the nostrils and feel the clamour of the kitchen upon the eardrums. The sultry menu slyly beckons, leading unkeen stomachs down the many paths of breakfast, dinner and dessert. Do not be distracted by this clever ruse! There is one item, buried deep within the menu, on the lower right-hand corner to be exact, that should be the only thing you want, the only thing you NEED! What is it? It is.. Banana and nutella crepes!! (Cue Beethoven's 9th Symphony - Adagio) As the teeth meet a sheet of spread and the lips embrace the layers, time and flavor are suspended as a crescendo of crepe and fused perfection melt in harmonious chorus. With each bite the sensation's stronger, and your elation won't wait any longer. The senses ease and the heart is pleased, the crepe now rests, devoured. (Cue Brahms's Lullaby)

Amazing crepes, and the location is charming. It is literally a hole in a brick wall where you walk up and place your order. Another one of my Charlottesville must-go places. I tend to get the sweeter crepes, with dark chocolate + strawberries being my favorite.

Home of the most delicious crepes around! Great for after a dinner on the mall. Wish they were open Sunday & Monday!

Giving 5 stars is a big deal to me, but I think I've finally found somewhere that deserves it. Or maybe it's just that I have a soft spot for a really good crepe restaurant outside of France. Either way, The Flat has the best crepes I've had that aren't from a French cart. I have yet to try the savory ones (aside from a bite of a friend's egg and cheese that was pretty good), but the dessert...mmm, i'm going to be dreaming about them all day now. The crepe itself is just the right thickness and texture, and the "toppings" are just right---warm chocolate, juicy strawberries, a melted blend of lemon and sugar--whatever you order, it's great. A few important notes: as others have mentioned, they only take cash. It's a walk-up location, so there's outdoor seating, but that's it, and it is closed (to the best of my recollection) on sunday and monday. Regardless, it's definitely a must-visit in town.

Got 1 sweet and 1 savory crepe. Both were filled to the top with fresh ingredients, warm, and very good! Note that this is more of a take-out place -- small outside seating only.

This is a great place to stop for a quick bite. The food is always fresh, though it can be a little messy what with melting cheese and sauces. Their hours could be extended a bit more; I have seen them closed at times when they could have been making good money. I'm glad they accept credit cards, but I wish they would bring back the Italian sodas. Service can be on the slow side when they are busy. They need another crepe maker, I think.

I never would have found this gem without Yelp! This is my new favorite place to eat in Charlottesville. I had a delicious savory crepe for 7 bucks. It was seriously the most delicious thing I have eaten in a month. It was so good, I immediately ordered a cinnamon and sugar crepe to take home for later. It's a good thing I don't live nearby or I would eat here every day.

Excellent, particularly for a desert crepe. Walk up, order, get your crepe, and either sit at the few tables they have there or go elsewhere on the Downtown Mall to eat. They have really odd hours, though; make sure it's open before you go.

This little shack makes AWESOME crepes! I got the toasted almond and chocolate, and just by the smell I knew it was going to be amazing. And it was. They did not skimp on fillings. I would love to return and get a savoury crepe.

The Flat's crepes were delicious. The chicken spinach and cheddar was fantastic as a lunch crepe, and a dark chocolate, strawberry, and banana was perfect for dessert. The only thing holding The Flat back was the service with a frown. I am not sure if the girl serving was recently dumped, but she couldn't have been more miserable. Hopefully, the next time the small rain cloud looming over the establishment will have dissipated.

Yes it's that good! I just recently returned from Paris and was craving for crepes when I stumbled upon The Flat. I ordered a sausage spinach and cheese crepe along with a strawberry Nutella crepe and they were both generously portioned and scrumptious! I was surprised to see the extensive selection of crepes on the menu, and some I didn't even recall seeing in France. I will be back for sure!

The crepes are delicious! My husband got the chicken avocado and I got the tofull - we were both very pleased. I made the mistake of boxing them and taking them home. To get the full steaming-hot crepe experience, I suggest going when it's comfortable to sit and eat it outside immediately. I went around 10pm and I overheard the guys say they were running out of some ingredients (i.e. nutella). Perhaps it's better to go earlier in the evening to have a better selection. I will go back sometime and get the choco-delight!

Farm fresh strawberries and creamy nutella make the best crepe at The Flat. Prices are more expensive than Paris, but the crepes are as close as you can get without your passport. The tiny two story window front building looks like it was transported brick by brick from Montmarte. Four stars for perfectly executed oozingly fresh crepes from a thoroughly authentic shop front. Five stars if they fire the annoying kid who takes your money. I will definitely go back!

Fantastic crepes and YOU MUST try their homemade teas and lemonades. Best lemonade on the mall and last week when it was scorching their rosemary lemonade was the most satisfying thing I could ever imagine. However I do agree with some other reviews that is expensive but on comparison to everything else on the mall its about the same.

A delightful find! They have great locally fresh ingredients and the classic crepes with nutella and fruit are awesome. I can't decide if I like the savory or the fruity sweet crepes are better! A bit pricey but expected for crepes!

hooray for vegan crepes! made fresh, while we watched. what an art form! the only thing that sullied our trip was some band's loud as crap tour bus idling and loading in at the jefferson theatre next door.

This is literally one of those "Hole in the wall" places. But if you throw money in the hole, out pops a delicious crepe stuffed with yummy goodness. I would have given them 4 stars instead of 5 because of the horrible lack of seating but hey, that's not what this place is about. This is definitely on the go food, which is why they serve their crepes wrapped up to-go style in paper vs. the traditional way. Make sure you check the website or call ahead to see if they are open because sometimes they will surprise you and no one will be there if there is something going on, holiday week, etc.

Great crepes - it could use a better-maintained little out front seating patio, but they don't have much room to work with. If you like nutella crepes, you cannot go wrong. (I have not tried any of their savory crepes.)

The Flat is exceptional. The crepes are delicious. Infinite variety. And they are made with love. It makes me mad that so many people are saying it is expensive! Obviously people have no idea how much fresh ingredients cost. It is SO cheap for the quality - nothing is over $7, most are closer to $6. If you want to spend a dollar for a meal - rock on - McDonald's is ready for you. If you want good food about as fast as a human can cook fresh ingredients, then it's more than worth it! Yum

Absolutely amazing!!! Love the combinations of flavors and always cooked to perfection. The savory crepes are definitely a meal in themselves and the dessert crepes are positively sinful. One of my favorite places in C-ville. Just remember to bring cash!!!

Only been for dessert, but have been about 4 times. The crepes are delicious. I have had the nutella, butter & sugar (w/cinnamon) and the nutella and strawberry. All are great, bring a friend to share or get 2 kinds. It is a unique place but is great after an evening walking on the downtown mall. The crepes are as good as the first I ever had in Paris.
