Visited Paradox on a trip to visit our daughter. The three of us ended up here by accident, and was it a lucky accident! Aside from the wonderfully delicious smells (it IS a bakery, after all), we had the lentil soup (outstanding), a turkey/apple/brie sandwich on croissant (wonderful, and a fresh but crisp-crusted croissant -- say that 10 times fast), and the quiche "du jour" (which was excellent). Then we had the chocolate-chocolate-chocolate cookie (forget what it's called, but it was perfect) and great coffee. The service people were very nice, and we also had a nice chat with Jenny, who is the/a owner and very nice. If I lived near Paradox I'd visit more often!

This place is just great! Darling venue with warm decor. The owner is just lovely and very knowledgeable. I had the individual pie of the day, which was lemon meringue and it was to die for! The crust was nice and flaky and a little sweet, the way I like it. The filling was smooth and lemony and the meringue was just right---not rubbery like sometimes when you get it. This is one of those places like I remember in Europe where you can just go and have a pastry and some coffee. The owner did tell me that she will be carrying wine and beer soon and will also have more savory offerings as well. Everything looked amazing!!! I hope this place stays around a long long time!

The hazelnut raspberry tart + local beverage is divine, especially sitting near there open window feeling a light breeze.

My new favorite hangout and place to get pastry after working out at the gym (I'm living the Paradox concept, which has to do with working out so you can eat pastry). I have high standards when it comes to pastry and all desserts-- most of the time it's not worth the calories. But I dream of this place throughout the week. Plus, Oprah magazine recently featured this article about how dieters should eat a dessert at breakfast in order to keep their resolve during the day. That's my kind of diet. In short, this place is the real deal. The pastry chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The desserts aren't achingly sweet and they are well-crafted-- pass on the birthday cake and croissants from the stores (including Whole Foods) and come here instead. I've had the Guinness layer cake, an Earl Grey tea and chocolate tart, and the peanut butter mousse layered concoction on different visits. I want to go back for the almond pave tart and basically work my way through the rest of the selections. It's good to have goals.

I don't get how this place garners the reviews it does. The first time we went we had a brownie which was severely undercooked and grainy, a coconut lime sugar cookie - nice texture and coconut flavor, though lime was not discernible, and a coffee cake which was extremely dry. We figured, based on others reviews, that we had visited on an off day. Fast forward 6 months and we were just as disappointed! The coconut cake with rum-marscapone frosting was dry as the Sahara desert! The peanut butter mousse torte was not mousse-like at all, but much more like a cheese cake. I so like the idea of this place, but the execution leaves too much to be desired for a return visit,

Coffee was terrible, cake was dry and cookie was ok.
