Mudhouse is the sole reason a group of five friends and I didn't go ham on each other on a recent trip. We had just suffered 24 hours together in the cold an drain and all of the restaurants we wanted to go to were on a wait. We were hangry and tensions were starting to run high. With the trusty help of Yelp, Mudhouse swooped in to save the day. This lovely hipster coffee shop is full of reclaimed wood, hay bales, tin tea pots and other decor that is reminiscent of a Portlandia episode. From pour overs, to siphons, to frozen lattes, to an eclectic assortment of organic teas and delicious homemade looking cakes ('m looking at you carrot and zucchini) and healthy power balls. And their alternative milk options don't just end at soy either. Hemp milk is also on the menu here. I opted for a pot of barley rice tea and it was a delicious earthy combination to settle my stomach and just reset for the entire day. We took up the little sunshiney bench by the window and by the tiem we reached the bottom of our cup we were ready for biz-nass! I'd definitely come back here again.

How wonderful it was to find this coffeeshop in the Charlottesville area after a long day of exploring. I especially like the seating area by the front window, perfect for playing chess or people watching. I ordered the mocha, which I thought was subpar to ones I've had from other places. It was very milky and not as strong as I would've preferred. It's a pretty cool place to hang out though.

Really good coffee! The service was good and I also tried dessert and that was good - considering they were about to close. For sure recommend

This place is pretty great! I loved their frozen mocha. Their mocha mud pie was also really good. It had a very smooth chocolatey taste and the bottom of the pie was crusted with crushed oreo-like crumbs. And their cookies were also delicious they were not too hard but they were not chewy either and the chocolate chip cookie had a generous but not excessive amount of chocolate chips. (Yes, I have a sweet tooth). The service was really great too! I would recommend trying it out!

I just needed a place to chill out and get my energy back before I met a friend for dinner and then drove home to DC. Thank you, Mudhouse, for providing me with the sanctuary and the sustenance I needed. The Mudball was tasty, the service was friendly, and my iced coffee was a welcome beverage. I will be back my next time through.

Tried two different kinds of beverages, not bad but nothing special. The coffee came in a relatively small cup compared to what you may get in other places (from the same type and size) and was kinda warm; I think a cup of coffee should be served hot not warm. Workers are nice and attentive. The atmosphere of the place is cool, but may get crowded sometimes where you cannot find a place to set. Not sure if I am willing to give it another chance.

Stopped by on our way to Fredericksburg and grabbed a latte and a frozen caramel latte and they were spot on.

The very best way to enjoy Mudhouse is by getting a big pot of tea (and honestly, these folks have some of the very best tea I've tasted- the masala chai is all kinds of brilliance), one of their big, soft, sweet chocolate chip cookies, and by sitting outside on a spring afternoon.

Great coffee, friendly service, very good quiche and a very casual working vibe. On the "town square" with a pleasant ambiance .

I love coffee and make it a point to try local spots during my travels. The Mudhouse in the downtown pedestrian mall area in Charlottesville looked like a great place to try... so we did. I am very particular about my coffee and like to have options. Unfortunately, they only have one option if you're looking for drip coffee - it was tasty, just not the rich & dark roast I would have preferred. My wife had a decaf latte. She wanted almond milk but the only options were soy or dairy. It was good but, again, having more than 2 options (neither of which were stomach-friendly for her!) would have been nice. Give the place a try. The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is fun.

Mudhouse has good coffee and a pretty good vibe. There's a lot of diversity among clientele depending on when you come. They do tend to serve the fruity variety. So if your a french roast fan ask for a pour over. Everyone behind the counter has always been friendly and helpful to me, but honestly I've never asked them to foam skim milk or anything. TL;DR: good coffee. Nice place and people. If you like dark roast try somewhere else or ask for a pour over.

My friends had been talking about pumpkin lattes for a day of hiking, so we went in search of a coffee shop - and were oh so pleasantly surprised to find something way better than a psl!! Just walking in you could tell this was going to be an amazing cup of coffee. In fact, I felt bad asking for a latte, thinking I'd ruin the delicious brew. It was delicious! The type of coffee you dream about...

I always try to check out the local coffeeshops whenever I'm out of town. I found this local spot on yelp, and the website showed an inviting space. I went with the hubs when he came up to visit me while I was out of town for work, and unfortunately it was a bit of a let down. The staff didn't want to be bothered explaining anything, they weren't too friendly, and overall the coffeeshop just seemed like a shell for plugging in. Not saying a coffeeshop has to be a coffeehouse with community, but then again it is a college town. Wait, maybe I'm thinking of UGA and Athens coffeeshouses :) The latte was nothing memorable either. I won't make a point to come back here the next time I'm in town.

Love, love, love Mudhouse! The coffee is great and the customer service is excellent. The guy at the register even took the time to converse with my son about his stuffed animal-even though there was a line out the door! Love this gem and my husband and I plan on becoming regulars!

This is an awesome place to hang out during the day for various reasons. The coffee is great, and they switch up the roasts frequently which is welcoming for a hardcore coffee lover that appreciates variety. This is probably a function of it's location on the Downtown Mall but there is always a diverse mixture of people here, from business persons taking a break from work, to UVa students, to couples on blind first dates, and locals who have probably been coming here for ages. It's always an interesting mix and it comfortably evades the pretentious hipster hangout vibe that a lot of independent coffee shops fall prey to. There's usually a lot of "easy on the eyes" coffee aficionados hanging out, both baristas and clientele. So... That's another plus. Baristas are friendly and informative too. Mainly I come here for the coffee and relaxed vibe. There's an ice rink and movie theater right across the "street" for entertainment and tons of great restaurants and bars just steps away. The only downside from my perspective is that it's pretty small and in the winter it stays pretty chilly in there from everyone coming and going. But that's a small price to pay for great coffee at the best local shop in town!

    (4)
  • Troy I.

Relaxed. Quiet. Calming. Summer or winter people are here. A mix of residents, mall walkers and a few University students. Those sugary treats to the right of the register are all very good also. Important: caffeine based persons can get coffee morning to late evening (10pm).

My go-to coffee place in Charlottesville for 17 years. I don't live in Charlottesville, but on every visit, Mudhouse is my first stop. It's changed since I first discovered it on the downtown pedestrian mall, as it got sleeker and easier to navigate. The coffee is delicious. I bought a pound of their dark roast to take home, which isn't as dark as you might think, but extremely tasty, with hints of chocolate. I will have to order online. The place is cozy, comfortable, easy to find, and has great coffee (as well as healthy treats). Love it.

  • Danielle S.

Coffee is good. Two of us had Americanos and 2 had lattes. The quantity of water and milk in each drink could have been a bit less to allow the espresso shot to push through. However the shots when poured into the water had a nice crema and the lattes were elegantly prepared.

I went to the Farmers Market downtown this past Saturday to pick up some cheese. It was the most crowded I had ever seen it--I guess people are excited about the good weather. But it was overwhelming to walk through all the crowds of people, so I just wanted somewhere to sit, relax, and write for a while. My go-to coffee place in Charlottesville so far is Para Coffee, but I had heard great things about Mudhouse, so I decided to stop by. I walked in, and it was packed too. Every nook and cranny and chair was occupied. I love being able to order drinks at nice coffee shops "for here" to be able to drink out of real cups and mugs, but looking around, I knew I wasn't going to find a place to sit. I went for simple today and ordered an iced coffee to go and sat down at one of their tables outside. The coffee was good and had a lot of flavor. It had a lot of depth but a brightness as well. I'll definitely stop by Mudhouse again when I get the chance. They had a bunch of neat options that Para Coffee doesn't have, especially in their tea selections. It's just frustrating that there wasn't any room to sit, but that does tend to happen at great places.

My current go to coffe spot in Cville. Always something great brewing and they make a strong cold brew. Good slection of baked goods as well that pair nicely with your tea or coffee beverage.

  • Jeanette N.

The best espresso, hands down. I dropped in with my husband one Sunday morning after a marathon. I ordered a tea which came in a pot with loose leaf tea- yes! Husband ordered a double espresso, the man is forever on the quest for a decent espresso. We stop in every coffee shop, in every town we go to - from MA to CA. That's a lot of shops and a lot of espresso. May I just say, that he finally found it at the Mudhouse in Cville. He was so satisfied with their espresso that we made a trip to Cville last weekend JUST to get a cup (or two). We also enjoyed sitting out front in the crisp weather with a tasty treat. It's a lovely spot - busy and charming.

Located on the Downtown Mall, Mudhouse has solid coffee, friendly baristas, and a great ambience. Our group popped in briefly on a Sunday morning. It was quiet, maybe everyone else was at brunch. If you need a caffeine boost, try the Mudcup -- 2 shots of their espresso mixed with regular drip coffee, and it's got the option of being iced or hot.

This place is legit. Nick was awesome. Our pour overs, smoothies and 'manly' quiche were all amazing. Great vibe and atmosphere. A must visit.

Best coffee around! Seriously some of the best I've ever had. No vegan food options when I've been there.

Perfectly crafted soy cappuccino and amazing scones. I went here for my morning caffeine fix and breakfast both days I was in Charlottesville on a recent trip.

I've gone to the Mudhouse for years and enjoyed the mudcup. However, I fear my relationship with them is coming to an end. Firstly, the coffee has been rather bitter lately, secondly a friend bought me a bag of coffee for Christmas and when I ground the beans they absolutely pulverized. They were so powdered they flew everywhere. My husband & I tried to make a pot of coffee with it and the flavor was horrendous. I walked to the mall one beautiful day afterward and told the staff my problem. Instead of being accommodating, they offered to sell me replacement coffee at a reduced price. When I told them no thank you and expressed that I thought they would want to honor someone's purchase they gave me a new bag for exchange. I would have thought that would have been a no brainer. The replacement coffee has not been tried yet but it looks very pale and dehydrated. I'm not holding out high hopes that it will be any good. Not sure what's going on but the Mudhouse has gone downhill, I would not recommend.

  • Maggie M.

I've been to the Mudhouse on the downtown mall many times but never to any of the other locations. Every Mudhouse coffee drink I've ever had there has been top notch. Their hot cocoa is terrific too. I like the vibe of Mudhouse and have only felt it was crowded when I was there on New Year's Eve. With First Night Virginia, though, every place on the mall looks and feels crowded on New Year's Eve. I think the service must depend on the staff which, of course, changes. Personally, my experience has been that the folks who work at Mudhouse are helpful and courteous. I would definitely recommend Mudhouse for a great local coffeehouse experience.

Mudhouse has the expected coffee house atmosphere without being dark and dingy. The coffee's good, and the baristas are friendly. Would recommend!

I came here three times in the same day, ( it's snowing, I have nothing else to do!) and I was extremely impressed by their bran muffin. It was delicious, and followed a perfectly simple recipe, not including raisins and all that nonsense. I also liked their non-fat latte ( I've had 3 today), but my only complaint would be how I couldn't find a place to sit, each time I came, because it was super crowded!!

    (3)
  • Paul S.

I didn't actually have the coffee here, but my wife did and she did not like it at all. She loves coffee and everything about it -- walked away very disappointed.

  • Mimi N.

A great please. This was my first time being there and everything looked so good to try. For a small cafe, they where packed. I've never seen that many people in a Starbucks compaired to this!

  • Sean H.

Fantastic coffee. Adorable venue. Great prices. What's not to love? Seriously, this place was amazing. I could see myself easily spending hours there working or just hanging out. The people there were amazing. I found myself having interesting conversations with total strangers, which I just love.

I love this Mudhouse, which may serve up the best Mocha I've had. This is a quintessential college town coffeehouse in some respects, and I always make it a point to stop by when I'm in town.

Hubby and I had a mind blowing iced Dirty Chai here....with a dash of "extra dirty" because that's the way we roll.

Stopped by this place for the first time before the Jeff Mangum show last Monday. My friend and I wanted to get a french press and the barista suggested one of the darker roasted blends and it was FANTASTIC. Seriously delicious. I wish I lived in Charlottesville because I'd be there everyday. Service was friendly and the barista who made our drink asked us as we were leaving if we liked the coffee. After I told him it was amazing, he seemed genuinely happy we enjoyed it. Food and beverage service is a hard job (I work in a restaurant) so it's great to come across people who actually care about their job. I don't know why people complain about their drinks taking a long time. Maybe it's their first time in a real coffee shop? It is NOT STARBUCKS. Baristas at Starbucks press a button to make a drink, not that hard and it's fast. Real espressos machines take more time...learn to be patient for once in your life, you aren't that important.

  • Liv R.

On my Jan. 22 visit I only tried their latte, which was delicious and so much better than Starbucks. It is a little pricey, a large latte and a small soy latte added up to a little more than $9. But the staff was friendly and the store was cozy and eclectic. It does get crowded with college students and other patrons, so seating may be a problem. I'll definitely be back to try more of their drinks/snacks.

  • Thomas K.

The atmosphere is fantastic and the employees are pleasant enough. As with many coffee shops, though, seem to get either great atmosphere or great coffee, but rarely do you get both. I gave their French Presses a couple of tries. While the presentation, with the individual press and ceramic mug was great, the coffee was acidy and bitter. An attempt at a cafe Au lait yielded similar results. Far from the best but not the worst either.

In college, I took a wine tasting class. Actually it was more like I just went to one. It was the toughest class to get into for some reason. I guess people thought they'd get free booze under the guise of credit hours. I might or might not have been one of those idiots. (Maybe a bigger idiot because I didn't receive credit, just free booze.) One of the goals of this course was to teach the intricacies of wine tasting and the only thing I took away from this course was that the terms used to describe wine are not what they sound like they are...."nutty" does not mean it tastes like a nut. Because let's be honest, you'd be a f--kin fool to think that s--t! Why on earth would you dare anticipate that "cherry and plum undertones" should taste like the f--kin fruits they are named after!!!! But all of this ultimately why I must commend Mudhouse. In a proper cafe layout in a charming colonial village, they deliver. I ordered a house specialty coffee that stated it had natural apricot qualities, and indeed it did. Not overwhelming like it fakely flavored, just an interesting cup of apricotty brewed coffee. I'm not saying that I even like the coffee, the jury is still out, but in the grand scheme of things, honesty from a merchant is something to be admired. I guess coffee tasters are just better, honest people.

Mudhouse could serve as a model coffee shop for every college town. The staff is friendly, the coffee good, and the snacks cheap. With free wifi (and many outlets!) it's definitely set up to accommodate the graduate student crowd but outdoor seating, comfy chairs, and a few chess sets mean you can still enjoy it without a laptop.

I had heard about the Mudhouse from some friends who go to UVa and decided to give it a try on my recent trip to Charlottesville. The coffee was great, the prices were decent and the atmosphere was really chill. I felt 20 times hipper just being here. Mudhouse puts Starbucks to shame.

Visited Charlottesville over the weekend and stopped in Mudhouse to get some work done on the "snow day". I had a hazelnut mocha and it. was. amazing. !!!!!

Stopped in here a few days ago to get a coffee to warm me up. Was pretty crowded, but seemed like a nice atmosphere to sit and chat. All three of us got lattes and they took FOREVER. I was beginning to wonder if they were worth the wait, but it ended up being a fantastic cup of coffee so definitely worth it! This is my new top choice for coffee when I'm in Charlottesville!

They have the important basics down: strong coffee, adeptly made espresso drinks and quick service, but that's about all I like about the downtown Mudhouse location. The new renovations make the already small place feel downright cramped. Ordering a drink for takeout painful, there's always awkward shuffling around as people try to figure out where to stand while they wait so they don't block the cream and sugar while new customers mill about try to figure out where to order and where to pick up their drinks. This wouldn't be such a big deal, but because it's on the downtown mall you get all kinds of people coming in and new faces on a regular basis and the set up takes a second to figure out. Mudhouse can also get pricey: two espresso drinks can easily run you upwards of $10, especially if you want any kind of substitution, like soy milk. No complaints about the drinks themselves or the selection. The baristas always make a delicious dirty chai without questions. If a coffee shop has to focus on the coffee or the building, it should be the coffee anyway. Every drink I've had has been pleasantly strong, which is how I like it, but you should be warned if you're used to Starbucks-style, over-sugared mochas, you won't get the same thing here. Despite the awkward shuffling, Mudhouse is generally one of the faster options downtown.

What a surprise to wander off the cheesy Charlottesville pedestrian pathway down into the moody Mudhouse. The atmosphere here is truly an experience. This is something tangible; hear it in the Rochmaninoff piano concerto softly wafting through the air, see it warmly illuminated in local artwork adorning the walls, smell it as the custom brews mix in the nostrils, feel the smooth leather and deeply aged wood settle around you. Of course taste matters most in a place like this. The chai tea latte was the most rich, foamy, slurpy, sippy, yummy latte I've ever had. The thick top never melted away as I enjoyed my drink. I dunked my giant snickerdoodle into the creamy froth and as the crumbs mixed with the cinnamon, I couldn't think of a better way to end my afternoon.

  • Cecile L.

Meh. The music was too loud to converse normally, it is crazy crowded every time I walk by. Many hard chairs to sit in but not many soft ones. I just found out how great Java Java is - nice peaceful music and lots of cozy couches. Go there if a relaxing sip of a hot beverage is what you're looking for!

    (2)
  • Becca C.

Coffee is pretty good here, but....it is just a bit too crowded for my taste. I got my studying done in Stacks and Alderman library....I would never even think of coming to the scene in Downtown to get my study on!

cozy and friendly environment. Nice place to meet friends/study or read.

  • Annie R.

The coffee and lattes were just "ok", but the people working there were a little too angsty/slow. I went here last Saturday twice (it was the coffee shop next to the hotel where I was staying) and just blah all around. The coffee is probably more 3 star but the people working there were 1. I mean look I get it, the "alternative coffee shop worker" I live in NYC but this was overkill, way too much attitude and it took WAY too long to get the latte, like 12 minutes long. Up your game Mudhouse love to support local where I can, but had to find a Starbucks on Sunday.

    (2)
  • Shellie A.

The coffee is okay, nothing special. The new remodel is pretty awesome but very tight/cramped. The staff is hit or miss, and the prices are a bit high. There are definitely better places for coffee in C-ville.

  • Patrick B.

Mudhouse is now my standard for coffee in Virginia. My wife and I swung by for two pour-over coffees on a busy Saturday afternoon. The two guys behind the counter were slammed, but took the time to do the pour-overs right. Bonus: They spent time talking to me about coffee. In fact, I picked up two great tips for improving how I make coffee at home. Both coffees used their beans from Lexington coffee and were delicious. We'll definitely make this coffee shop a part of every trip to Charlottesville in the future.

    (5)
  • Trey W.

I really love their iced mochas. They have a modest amount of tables and seating available for studying or hanging out. There's also seating outdoors. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff and really great coffee. I highly recommend coming here.

  • Paul B.

I love the Mudhouse! All the locations rock! The downtown location is wonderful, always thriving. I enjoy the peacefulness and acoustic music of the Crozet location and they have some of the best coffee and espresso around. Try the Mudcup, you can't go wrong!

Got the "Monkey", a chocolate frozen drink with bananas. It was pretty tasty. Service was slowish, but that comes with well-made coffee I suppose. Place was packed and the walls were lined with people infront of their laptops.

Visited while they were going major renovation. Entire inside was gutted. Enjoyed the way they did coffee in the morning outside the front door by improvising with a super small bar. Really nice group who work here. Very very good coffee.

Mudhouse is my go-to haunt. It is rarely quiet there, so don't expect to get any work done. Bring headphones or if you prefer the daily rants and raves of Cvilles finest by all means go to Mudhouse. You surely will receive an ear-full. I must be a stickler for personal space- because at Mudhouse you have none. It reads more like a pub, a piazza, the city square- for all those to converge. But why the four stars? Mudhouse is consistent. The coffee to be frank is good, not exceptionally great nor exceptionally bad. A lot of Mudhouse downtown is the environment, this central meeting place of 'lost' cavs who trickled in from across the bridge (har-har), the locals, those traveling through. A cornucopia of souls- to see and be seen. And if you're lucky spot and mark your territory on the couch or one of the high-back chairs facing the window- that's the ultimate people watchers vantage point.

I guess it's your typical cafe where hippies can congregate together and play their bongos. Littered with people with their Macbooks, knit caps, and skinny jeans, its your quintessential coffee house. How was their coffee? I think it's very strong. Too strong for my taste. Asked for a iced coffee with cream and sugar, but they said I can put in the cream and sugar myself. Come on...Dunkin Donuts will put sugar and cream in my coffee....I guess I wasn't hip enough.

A little over a year later, I decided to give Mudhouse another chance. New decor, a pleasant place to sit, but the espresso was undrinkably bad. Come here for other things, maybe, but skip the coffee.

    Great atmosphere. Fierce coffee.

    (4)
  • Kate S.

The Mudhouse is as Charlottesville as it gets. Great atmosphere, always interesting people, and a great place to meet friends for a coffee or tea. I love their minty iced green tea in the summer, and it's always fun to get one of the chess tables when you have some time to relax there for a while. And the long-haired Russian guy is always there, without fail!

    (5)
  • Jonny C.

The Mudhouse offers everything you would expect from a first-rate coffeehouse. It's in a great location, right on the downtown mall. The décor is splendid: vibrantly colored walls adorned with striking artwork, and eclectic furniture including tables with checkerboard patterns on which you can play chess (yes, they have chess pieces if you're interested). The staff is really friendly and often jokes around with you as they prepare your order. The music could best be described as anything goes: It sounds like someone with wildly diverse tastes has his or her iPod on shuffle. If you don't like what's currently playing, just wait: They're bound to play something you dig soon. Also, there's a computer terminal with Internet access available for patrons free of charge. The crowd is generally pretty young and seems cool. The place is jumping, but without ever becoming too crowded, and I've never had a problem finding a table. In every respect, this is a great place to chill. Oh, and the beverages are good too.

    (5)
  • Caitlin L.

Super expensive! And when I was there, the decor was this freaky horror-movie collection of paintings. Yuck.

Great little (well, actually it was rather large) coffee shop in Charlottesville. The mocha, bing cherry concoction was tasty and not too sweet.

    (3)
  • Krissy M.

Latte was good - liked the fancy leaf pattern on the top. The wi-fi from the downtown mall was fast and the 'homey' feeling of the cafe was nice, though the music was a little distracting for what I was doing (studying for GRE) - nonetheless, good afternoon stop on my tour de coffeeshop11

An iced chai latte and double mocha -- is that too much to ask for? When I walked into Mudhouse, on the charming pedestrian walkway of downtown Charlottesville, I was the only customer in the joint, yet somehow it took nearly ten minutes to get the two measly drinks I'd ordered. I watched as they slung joe for customers who had appeared after I'd ordered and paid, and wondered why I still had just one cup before me. When I asked, I was told the machine was being cranky. Why had I not been told this before, while I stood waiting patiently? When I asked that they just bring my drink out when it was ready, I received a stare from the bohemian wannabe, her eyebrow raising as if this were the most ludicrous request one could make. Whatevs. Our drinks were finished in a third the time it took to make them, but we enjoyed our time out on the patio, watching the world of Charlottesville pass by on a perfectly pleasant August day. There's too many other interesting establishments on the street for me to waste my time and money here.

    (2)
  • Sander M.

A great convenient coffee shop on the downtown mall. The coffee/espresso is tasty, and the option of outdoor seating during summer/spring/fall is a nice option. The brownies are certainly the best pastry option, while the others are rather bland - there are some gluten free/sugar free options though which is nice. I gave it only four stars just because comparatively to Shenandoah Joe's, their coffee isn't quite as good, and they have fewer pastry options that I like. That's not to say Mudhouse isn't well above par for the average coffee shop (Charlottesville is enough to spoil anyone who loves coffee).

Don't love this place, despite having given it numerous chances due to its proximity to my house. The coffee just isn't that good. I've never tried any food, but it doesn't seem like they have much. The couches are nice up at the front, and I appreciate the free wifi and the outlets for plugging in computers. Gets a little noisier with music and people. Staff are nice, but often times slow in making my relatively uncomplicated drinks.

This place is voted best coffee for a reason! It is my only option, they've taught me more about farmers and coffee and how to understand the difference between a cup of excellence and a bad roast. Amazing! And the renovations downtown are nothing less than pure genius. No comparison in Charlottesville, this is the place.

Forget "Best coffee in Charlottesville", this place is in the running for best for "Best coffee on the East Coast." It is only when you taste their coffee do you realise what you have been missing out on... These guys go about their business in a laid back casual way, happy to accomodate particular individual orders and pretty modest for the killer brew they churn out. Visting Charlottesville? Visit Mudhouse!

The barista who rang me up on Saturday night was great. The petite, head-scarfed alternagirl who made my drink, not so much. I knew it tasted too good to be true, and it was only after I had already left with my drink that I began to suspect what would only be confirmed an hour later - in miserable fashion: alternagirl had ignored my request for soy and given me whole milk. If intentional, that's pretty unforgivable. If unintentional, it's just sloppy.

Coffee is solid but not outstanding.... I'm not a fan of "poor your own from the press dispenser on the counter in the corner"-style service. This is what I get, I suppose, for not ordering more expensive drinks. The baked goods are nice - but often look better than they taste; maybe their not decadent enough. The main reason to come is the pace and atmosphere of the place; especially during the day.

The Mudhouse is great - very busy, a wonderful place to meet friends (and occasionally clients), good coffee and atmosphere. It's usually quite busy, so finding a place to sit can be a challenge, but the outside space typically has spaces.

Coffee is pretty good but not quite the best in Charlottesville. Very nice place downtown though and a great place to grab a coffee and relax (when you can find a seat). Still much better than Starbucks and a big local hit among coffee-aficionados.

WOW, best cup of REAL coffee I've had... ever... they did charge me 50 cents on a credit card for a refill, no change, come one guys!- but it's all good cause again, it was so worth it! yum!

No other coffeeshop in Charlottesville will live up to the standards of THE MUD!

The coffee is really good, and that's the reason I come here. It's usually really crowded, and nobody is in a hurry to make space for you, so I get my drink and leave to walk around the mall. The staff is fun though, and they have CUPCAKE FRIDAYS, which is fairly exciting. The only complaint I have about the beverages is the flavored syrups. If you like flavored lattes or anything like that, I'd pass on them. They taste very sweet and artificial and are particularly painful in iced beverages.

My favorite place to get coffee when I'm in town! Old, mix matched comfy chairs, a super friendly funky staff, yummy treats for vegans and otherwise, and some dang good coffee. I get excited visiting C-town because I plan my trip around my stop to the Mudhouse. Enjoy!

good coffee, very good music, and free wifi via the downtown mall. i'd probably be a regular if i lived nearby, but i wouldn't say it's worth seeking out on its own.

Yummy coffee, pleasant and helpful staff, comfortable seating, and free wifi on the beautiful downtown mall. Perfect place for a first date or pretending to study. I miss it like crazy.

The wifi is nice and the coffee is tasty. The food is hit or miss. It's either too expensive or...just weird. I ordered a fruit and yogurt parfait and was told the only fruit they had on hand was apples and would I still want one? Nah, not for five bucks. But if they only have apples, how are they making strawberry-blueberry-banana smoothies?
