Very disappointing, went there for their fried chicken and they took it out of the menu. Ordered a burger and sandwich instead and thought they weren't great and totally over priced $30 for two sandwiches. Also the heating system was broken so food got cold really fast.

I went here because according to the 2013 Zagat DC guide Ray's Hell Burger was the best burger joint in the city. Great burger; cooked properly (medium rare) and well seasoned. The bone marrow was superfluous in my opinion, but since I'd never had it before I had to try it. I should have listened to the guy at the counter who recommended the regular bacon cheeseburger when I asked him what was good on the menu. I'm definitely going to go back to this place, I just wish it was in an area of the city that had more going on.

This is the best burger in the area, I think I already proclaimed this on the original Ray's yelp page, but I'll say it again! This last time, I decided to venture out and get the steak and cheese with double the meat (2/3 lbs). Wow! This thing has some fresh meat in it and not the cheaper cheesesteak meat I'm so used to in Philly. It came with so much cheese and love and gooeyness. This is a fat kid meal, be warned. With the first bite. I knew it. It's freakin' delicious. This place has quality meat and I think that's why I keep coming back. Definitely try the steak and cheese if you can get away from a burger.

The family went here for my dad's birthday a couple weeks ago. We went on a Friday night around 8 or 9 pm and we were a party of 6-8. They don't take reservations. Parking was pretty easy. They have a little garage with dedicated spots. Our wait was less than 10 minutes. We were seated in towards the back. It's a small-ish place. I guess around the size of old Rays the Steaks. Maybe a little bigger. The lobster mac and cheese was AMAZING!! A must try! The Salmon dish was good, as was the steak salad. The steak I ordered was not so good, but I should have heeded the menu. I forget the cut, but it's a fattier cut of steak and just wasn't that good. I would not order it again. They only serve milkshakes for dessert. But there were some yummy options. Most of us ordered the milkshake with bourboon, chocolate syrup, and bacon. Yup, bacon. It turned out to be tasty although we thought the bourbon was too strong of a flavor for the bacon. Perhaps something a little lighter would have gone better. Nonetheless, try it if you're in the mood for cheesecake. The server was very attentive and made a fantastic milkshae. I would definitely eat here again.

Oh, man, their Hell Chicken is awesome. And the sauces that come with it are so flavorful. I am definitely a white meat chicken eater, so this fit the bill for me. If you prefer dark chicken meat, such as thigh or leg, this may not be your favorite. But if you prefer white meat, please try this great version.

Brought my family to get some good burgers and fried chicken, the chicken sandwiches were very good, the steak and cheese was outstanding...... BUT I order the "Ray's Famous Skillet fried chicken", what a disappointment! The waitress asked if I wanted it "Hell's style" which is supposed to be flavorful if not at least spicy (The way it was described "spicy" is the word that should be used). Too start with when she brought the plate out the two pieces of dark meat were pretty much meaty "drummetts" and a small piece of breast/rib meat. I asked the waitress if this was the normal serving portion she confirmed two pieces of dark and one white. This in my opinion was more in line with a lunch portion at 8.99 not 12.99. A few minutes later the waitress returned and confirmed that my portion was on the small side, she offered an additional 1/2 breast - kudos for that. The issue which escapes me is the fact that the two chicken sandwiches ordered by our table had 10 times more flavor than the skillet Chicken as a matter of fact the fried chicken served by my relatives Assisted Living development had more flavor than the "Ray's Famous Skillet". For my meal I am calling it "Murphy's Chicken" (nothing went right with it) but everything else we had was outstanding.

The wife and I eat here at least once every other week. It's not much for atmosphere but the food is very good. I suggest the bacon wrapped filet (but opt for the brandy mushroom sauce) or the pan fried chicken (very very good)!

Great service, average atmosphere, and outstanding food. The heck sauce was delicious on the Mack burger- the horseradish gave it the perfect kick! The bacon cheeseburger was equally delicious. The sinnabon milkshake was slightly better than the toffee Heath milkshake. The sweet potato fries had a good crunch and flavor- we'll be back as soon as possible!!

Food was amazing! Burgers are cooked perfectly and super juicy. The sweet potatoes fries were perfect and just melt in your mouth. Missing two stars due to the horrible service. The hostess acted like we were ruining her day when we came in and had to sit us. The waiter was pretty slow and was always missing. Will come back, but probably just for take out.

I really hate to gripe about a restaurant but this place literally made it hard for me to digest my food. Dont get me wrong, the flavor is there and it was good, but not that good. Hubs and I went for lunch, he got the regular burger with bacon added for an extra $2 and I got the steak and cheese w/ side of fries for $3 and milkshake for $6. So here it goes, hubs did not get his bacon, his burger was severely undercooked to the point blood could be squeezed out, the fries, literally 20 pieces on a tiny ass plate! I Dont understand the hype of this place but for and almost $40 lunch, yes $40! Because we decided to tip since we saw "servers" this place is NOT worth it. Hey, if you're loaded and have an in disposable income, waste your money here.

The best burger joint in the DC, MD, VA area for my money. They've recently relocated, and are way more upscale, but here's the thing... It's a burger joint. It's specialty? A delicious assortment of specialty burgers, always... ALWAYS cooked to perfection. I've taken several friends here and there has never been a complaint.

I love RTS and we have been customers for years. This review is just for the lunch menu at Ray's 3; we arrived hoping to have the same menu as we saw online--steaks, chicken etc. but found just burgers and sandwiches. The lobster and shrimp "burger" was dry and tasted of iodine, and my husband's steak and cheese sandwich was a poor version of a Philly cheesesteak. We were so disappointed not to have the option of crab bisque, steak, fried shrimp, fried chicken etc! The fries and onion fries were good, as was the milkshake. But the $52 lunch bill was hefty for undistinguished sandwiches. So be aware that the lunch menu is nothing like the dinner menu--and nowhere online do they tell you that! (except here....) Be sure to arrive after 5 p.m.

We've been twice so far and both times it was OK, nothing to write home about. I'm glad they added burgers to the dinner menu but getting your salad at the same time as entree is just not good. I'm not sure if it was a mistake or they do that all the time. Wish they had a ceasar too, just one salad choice is pretty restrictive. Most had steaks this time and they were as good as Rays the Steaks but seafood platter seems like it was 'premade', coming out of a box of some kind, passable but expect better from Rays. All in all, a work in progress. We'll be back.

So I read every review I could get my hands on before making the trip to R3. I had been to RHB and RTS before going to R3 and had good experiences at both. I decided not to get a burger because I had already tried that at RHB (it was good minus the bun and lack of fries, this was before they added fries to the menu). I went with the cheesesteak, partly Bc of previous reviews and also because I'm a huge cheesesteak fan. The sandwich was large (which I think it should be for 9.99 with no sides) and I was initially very happy when it came out. Despite what previous people have stated about rays, they no longer serve unlimited fries with sandwiches (I checked the lunch and dinner menu). This was okay, but I think for 9.99, French fries could be included. All together my sandwich and fries (which u ordered a la carte, $2.50) came out to 14$ after tax. A price I would be happy to pay for a great cheesesteak and fries. The hoagie roll was not warm and fell apart on me immediately. This wasn't so much the issue as a good cheesesteak should be messy. However, the steak was just good, it wasn't worth making a second trip for, and there's definitely no reason to go back to Ray's for anything other than great food. The service was okay and the atmosphere is too. I couldn't care less about these things, but I didn't understand the hype around this cheesesteak. Not that flavorful, weak roll, just an overall okay sandwich. If you go to Ray's, stick to the burgers. Also, I don't think the prices are spectacular, even for the area. 6$ for a shake, and 10$ for a speciality shake with alcohol seems high when I'm already paying 14$ for sandwich and fries. If you want a great cheesesteak, try Al's steakhouse in Alexandria, best in the area. I hope to give R3 a second chance when I'm in the area again, but this philly isn't worth making the trip for.

This place is delicious. I had the grilled with froie grois, grilled mushroom, grilles onions, and pickles with sweet potato fries. Do not go by Carrie L's review. Came all the way from NYC to try this and it's yummy. Carrie L clearly isn't a foodies.

After watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares where Gordon Ramsey demolished a bad hamburger restaurant, I decided that I would go and get a great one. After 10 seconds of silence Hubs and I decided to go to Ray's. We made it in at exactly 30 minutes after they opened so there was no crowd. Hub's decided to get a steak and cheese with scrambled eggs and I got the Little Devil with blue cheese. After placing our orders we took our number and the fresh popcorn that was offered to us and sat down. No less than 10 minutes later our food arrived it was cooked perfectly.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: It's all about the beef! I ordered The Little Devil which is over 1/3 pound of 100% premium steak, aged in house, hand trimmed, ground fresh through out the day ground and loosely hand formed into an extra juicy and rich burger cooked as ordered. Topped with cheese, roasted garlic, an egg, lettuce, tomato raw onions and pickles. DELICIOUS! It cured my burger craving that's for sure! I also ordered some onion strings but really wanted the tater tots which was taken off the menu....it caused such sadness. Please bring it back! Hubby ordered the picanha which is a brazilian strip. bold, rich, juicy, flavorful, served with a spicy piranha sauce. He was in beef heaven savoring every bite.

This was our 3rd time here in the last year or so. The service has always been perfect. The servers are knowledgeable,friendly and on top of drink refills if you need one. The burgers here are outstanding. The meat is ground daily and it is the freshest tasting burger I've had in a long time. I always find myself ordering the "Diablo" burger, cooked medium. The diablo sauce has a slight kick to it and makes the burger that much more enjoyable. While the fries aren't the greatest fries, the onion pedals are awesome and ever so slightly coated with Old Bay. A must have! The milkshakes here are massive and hands down the best around. For the adults, they even make a few "specialty" milkshakes. Looking forward to many more trips to this location!

Rays to the Third is a place to go for really good food but don't expect much else. I went here with another friend on a Saturday night around 7:30pm and they seated us immediately. The service was as basic as possible, our waiter essentially had no conversation with us, didn't even introduce himself or ask if it was our first time dining here. But I have no complaints the service was prompt and efficient but something they can definitely improve on. The food was fantastic. We had the fried chicken which was good, super crispy and great tasting. I wish there was an option for a breast piece though. I normally don't like cole slaw but theirs was tasty. The mac&cheese is delicious, I also had the Jack Zing burger which came with pepper jack cheese and and jalapenos which was one of the better burgers i have had in DC, really juicy. The onion fries are highly recommended. So there was some confusion with the bottomless fries, I was under the impression that the burger came with bottomless fries, according to one of the pictures posted in an earlier review, which doesn't seem to the case any longer. And just a pet peeve of mine, is it really that much more costly to have decent glassware instead of those cheap red plastic cups? I digress, this place is well worth trying, I will be back for the steak and cheese.

Got the toffee explosion and a soul burger. Awesome. More of a laid back, casual restaurant now... But it's really dim and all waiters in black like a nicer restaurant does , so conflicted- is it hang out with guys or take a date? Idk, but good food. Wish they would have kept Rays Hell burger as is, it had a style if it own. Bye bye old Rays He'll Burger. :( But food still good, so 4 star!

Feelin' like a grade A "B" for grading a 3, but Ray(Michael) left us cryin' when he made us order at the counter. We received our usual: Perfectly cooked and super delicious fat-girl food. But, GASP! We had to get up to order a second beer. It felt like a Mickey D's. I understand the need to turn tables at this place, as there has almost always been a line out the door. And maybe you guys saved some bucks by losing some of the wait staff, but geez. Get a bigger place, get organized or charge us more. Great food is only half the fun. We also want more and bigger TVs and a full bar might be nice.

I've been coming here a long time. For some reason, each time I come to "the third", my taste buds just don't seem to be he same for when they were at their original location across the street. Maybe its because this place is all classy now? The sit down service is great and all, but I think I miss the old school line up and wait model. While the menu is still the same from their old stomping grounds, it just doesn't taste the same anymore. It's still my go-to spot for a burger in the area, but I am always left wondering "what if's" in terms of if they kept their old location.

So the first thing you need to know is that this place is now a combination of Ray's to the Third and the Original Ray's Hellburger, which used to be across the street, but moved out after a dispute with the landlord (or that's what local gossip says). That being said, this place is exactly what you'd expect a slightly-fancy, slightly-overpriced, but delicious burger place. They have a huge variety of toppings, including plenty of things I would never think to eat, let alone to eat on top of a burger. They have turkey and veggie options too for those people who, like me, aren't really big burger fans. Warning, when looking at the menu, your eyes will probably be bigger than your stomach, these burgers are BIG. Like I said earlier, it's a bit more expensive than I'd normally like for a burger, especially because they come a la carte (you have to order sides separately). They also have an amazing menu of milkshakes/frappes/smoothies, which I haven't tried yet, but sound fantastic (There are even some "adult" ones with a little extra kick). I've only ever eaten takeout here so I can't comment on the service. The wait to get your food is a bit longer than a normal grab and go place, but not unreasonable for takeout from a regular restaurant. Bottom line: If you're a burger fan, you have to try it. If you aren't, it might just make you one. Can't hurt to check it out.

MACK BURGER What's not to like? Lettuce, tomato, pickles, warm bun...and juicy juicy meat. I got it with the BONE MARROW. The marrow is on the plate, not the burger. You scoop the marrow out yourself and put as much as you want on your burger. Needless to say, my burger was dripping marrow fat all over my arms. Yummy. TATER TOTS Better than the fries, onion rings, half and half. Tater tots are the best. They are crispy, not too oily and come in a good size side portion. OREO BAILEYS MILKSHAKE I shared this alcohol infused milkshake and it was amazing. I love Oreo cookies and it was the perfect blend into the milkshake. The Baileys was not overwhelming either.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend when I was visiting the DC area. The burgers are awesome. One of the best burgers I've had in a sit-down restaurant. I had the Fat Joe burger - foies gras and all - and it was a party in my mouth. The burger was very simple, just foies gras, a slice of tomato and some fried onion/garlic. (?). Every burger ordered at the table was cooked to perfection. Steak fries were also good. The steaks that the next table had looked delicious too. I also had a Ricky Bobby (spiked milkshake) and it was delicious! Bacon, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, vanilla... what's not to love? I over stuffed my self with the beefy burger and milkshake! I did not want to move, and I must come back here next time I am back in the area!!

I have been to Ray's To The Third on numerous occasions, so I will forgive the fact that tonight - on the coldest day in VA history since 1818 - the heater broke?! The waitress said it was because it was cold outside...no I don't think so! Our waitress was extremely slow to get to us tonight, but I'll blame that on her moving because of the weather. We always get the crab bisque which comes with huge chunks of crab meat! The BF gets the Big Poppa - blue cheese and mushrooms, and I get the soul burger number one - substitute with Vermont cheddar, sautéed mushrooms and grilled red onions. For his birthday tonight, my dad got the diablo - which came with jalapeño peppers, hot sauce, etc. and he thought it wasn't spicy at all. But don't let that skew you...I think his taste buds for spice have worn off since he's gotten older and likes to eat those little red peppers they give you at Vietnamese restaurant with his wine. Alas, I regress. We also got a large order of sweet potato fries to share. Ray's 3 is definitely a no frills kinda place, as is the whole restaurant group's M.O. BUT the great secret is they have all the same cuts of meat at Rays the Steaks, but for less. Definitely a steal and great place to grab a bite when you don't feel like going to Rays.

I got a grilled burger with lettuce, tomato, raw onions, and bacon. My sister got the same with some pepper jack. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our burgers. We also ordered fries and onion fries. The regular fries were lifeless- they tasted like old Applebee's fries that had been refrigerated and reheated. Blah. My sister liked the onion fries, but I wasn't a fan. We didn't try the shakes, but there was a decent choice of flavors. If they step up their side dish game, this place would be a 5.

Great food, good consistency, nice service. The menu has evolved over the past few years. Since Ray's Hell Burger was replaced with Ben's Chili Bowl, this is the best place to satisfy your enormous burger craving. I prefer it medium-rare, au poivre, and topped with a runny egg and bacon (no bun). Don't overlook the steak frites (the last remaining steak menu item here), the fried chicken, or the lobster mac and cheese. Sides like sweet potato fries or tater tots are extra, but at a nominal fee. They also serve great milkshakes, which come in non-alcoholic and adult variations. Decor is not why people come here - it's the food. That said, it's clean, well lit, and not too noisy. Unfortunately, they recently removed their taps, but you can get great micro brews by the bottle, and they offer a decent selections of wine.

This place was great for our location, and they always (and still do, but... ) had quality meat and STEAKS. It was fantastic. Now it's just Rays Hell Burger 3+booze shakes. My favorite was "The Dude", which they've removed from the menu, as well as all of their steaks. Service was ok. I am sad to say that I will likely not be going back to eat in, the ambiance does not fit the Hell Burger mentality. All that said, if you haven't had Ray's Hell Burger, it is totally worth eating at.

I'm not sure of the connection that has a few of the burgers here named after obese hip-hop artists... Shame that no burger was sprinkled with molly or had any fixings marinated in Henny (crack and Cristal for pre-2010 chart toppers). Guess they're also good to steer away from a burger named the "Big Pun", who died of a heart attack... I'd like them to consider the "Action Bronson": 1) He's an ex chef and still quite the foodie; 2) He's obese and therefore congruent with their motif; and 3) His flow is quite sick; do NOT say he sounds like Ghost, they're voices are similar but that's where the similarities end... Anyway... I kicked off everything with a Ricky Bobby shake, just remember it had caramel, because I don't like caramel, plus bourbon and bacon both which are always scrumptious. The salty sweet with a kick worked... I got the "Fat Joe" that comes fixed a la seared fois gras, truffle oil and crunchy fried shallot thingies, lil devil, medium well. $17 burger, a la carte; dang they are straight "getting us" in there!! It was tasty and prepared well, but maybe my taste buds aren't sensitive enough, because I didn't taste much of anything except the beef, maybe a hint of truffle oil... I should have pulled the fois gras off and ate it on the side... The a la carte side of fries, shrug, ok... The a la carte mac n cheese, cheesy yet flavorless (or my buds again)... How does that happen?!? Now I can say I've been there, on to the next frou frou burger spot.

Ray's has pretty good burgers. However, the last time I was there I waited 40 minutes for my order and watched order after order called for people who came after me. I figured it was a fluke and mistakes happen. I just now went to Ray's for the last time, though: went up to the cashier and ordered a burger with lettuce and tomato, medium-well. Her response was "how would you like that cooked?" Medium-well. "Any cheese?" No cheese, just lettuce and tomato. "Ok, medium-well, no cheese, lettuce and pickles." No, just lettuce and tomato. I paid my $8 + tax and sat down to wait. A large group of guys came in after me and also ordered. After about 15 minutes, one of their orders was ready. Then another. I counted 5 orders total served before mine came up, 30 minutes later. I finally got back to my desk and found that they gave me a plain patty with a bun. Apparently telling the cashier 3x wasn't enough for them to actually put a piece of lettuce and a tomato slice on the burger that took 30 minutes to make.

I never made it to Ray's Hell Burger before it closed down as planned. So when I saw Rays: to the Third on a couple of "Best Burgers in DC" lists I added it my summer list of places to visit. My girlfriend and I couldn't agree on a burger (bone marrow, please yes!; not so much for my girlfriend), so we got the Mack, a standard cheeseburger. We also got the Mac and cheese, toys, and the Elvis milkshake. The burger was cooked perfectly to order and had a great flavor. The smell and taste of the grill was all over the crusty exterior and the inside was succulent and juicy. The tots were crispy and a perfect compliment, while the Mac and cheese was a really nice side. It wasn't too heavy but had a nice creamy cheesiness. The milkshake had too much going and it tasted of pre-bought ingredients. A vanilla milkshake with peanut butter, banana, Butterfinger, and topped with strawberry, chocolate and bacon. That description was better than the execution though as it didn't bring much to the lunch table. This was a quick and tasty meal though. A definite recommendation for a really well executed burger.

The burgers here are really, REALLY good! My husband had a turkey burger and I had the Soul Burger (aka little devil). He was about halfway through devouring his burger when he managed to mumble, "This is the best turkey burger I've ever had". He eats his plain - just meat and cheese, so it wasn't the house-made sauce that made him say that! LOL. I always consider it a good sign when a restaurant is crowded. The place was pretty packed when we arrived and more people continued to pour in as we ate. I observed that most folks were eating one of the burgers which led me to believe that they must be pretty tasty! I ordered my Soul Burger with sauteed mushrooms, raw red onions, lettuce and tomato...cooked to medium-well perfection! I couldn't decide on regular fries or onion fries so I let our wonderful server, Alexis, decide. She told me that there was no way I could go wrong with ANY of the fries. She came back with the onion fries and I ate every BIT of them! Hubby ordered sweet potato fries and they were delicious too! I asked for a recommendation for which shake to get and once again, Alexis hit the mark. She suggested the Mud Pie, which came out in a silver cup (looks like a shaker that bartenders us) and two large straws. Surprisingly, it was just enough for both of us to share. Best way to describe it is a cup full of oreo goodness! It paired well with our burgers and fries! Whenever Alexis was busy, the other servers stopped by to insure that we were okay as far as refills and whatnot. So I'd say the service was stellar. I wasn't too fond of the seating, but that's a personal thing. I like booths if I'm sitting in the main dining area vs the bar. The tables were too tiny for my taste! Place looked pretty clean, hostess was cool and the environment was that of a "family style" restaurant/hole in the wall type place...which I dig! If you're looking for a great burger with fries and a shake + good customer service, stop by Ray's! It's like 3 blocks or so from the Rosslyn metro stop. I'm not exactly sure about the parking situation as I walked over.

I made it to Ray's to the Third for a 6:30 dinner with the parents on Columbus Day. Reservations are recommended - it was surprisingly empty when we arrived, but by the time we left it looked like every table was filled, with people waiting outside to get seated. The shakes here are awesome. Or at least, the one I got to try. I split the Elvis milkshake, with butterfingers, banana, peanut butter and bacon. It was thick with plenty of ice cream, and had great flavor. The burgers were great too. I had a little devil burger diablo style with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, pickles, mushrooms, and garlic. The diablo sauce packed a bit of a kick by itself, but on top of the burger and bun, it was just right. The burger was perfectly cooked to medium, and was juicy without being overly greasy. We also split orders of fries, sweet potato fries and onion fries. The best by far were the sweet potato fries - light, crisp, and plenty of sweet potato flavor. I thought that the onion fries had good flavor, but were way too greasy. the regular fries were just about what you would expect from an order of fries, but went very well with the diablo burger. The prices are decent here - for the quality of food you get, they aren't bad! It is a little weird that you don't get fries with your burger in a sit-down restaurant though. You have to order them separately. Strange side policies aside, consider me a Ray's fan.

If you look at my review list you can read a review I posted for the old Ray's Hell Burger! I despised the place, the food and the customer service. I never wrote about Ray's the Steaks. I should do it soon. The place is AMAZING, which is a nice change from my Hell burger experience. Now to my Ray's to the Third review: Even though I love Ray's the Steak I've been hesitant to try Ray's to the Third. I was scared it was going to be a letdown as Hellburger was. Man I was WRONG. Ray to the third is great. The food is amazing. The service is much better. The service still lacks, but it's out of how busy they are. Everybody is working hard and they all seem friendly. So I will give them a pass. Their bacon, booze milkshake is so yummy. (I don't remember the name) While most of the dishes are super tasty, their sides are not the greatest. So skip the 4 dollars and 1000 calories fries. I enjoyed the place so much I went there two days in a row.

Interesting lay out of the place. Your not really sure if it's a wall up counter service place or table service. Just an odd placement of walls and tables. Odd little side rooms. Food was pretty decent. Onion fries where pretty good. Burger was good. With many different styles you could choice to have. Was refreshing to see the many varieties of toppings. Never seen one offering bone marrow before. For a burgers with a unique toppings or preparation this would be your place. Just don't think it's all that that some have said.

Rays was just alright. The restaurant itself was a bit dark, but it was lunch time, so I was more in the mood for something bright. If I had come in around dinner I'm sure this wouldn't have come to mind. I thought the food was mehh. I ordered the Hell-Chicken Sandwich and it was not so good. The chicken was super dry and I wasn't completely expecting it to be breaded. I thought it would have more of a spice rub thing going on, but it had a breading that was pretty gross and bland aside from the spiciness, which makes it "hell"-chicken... Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals a bit more than me though, so I'm thinkin that I just ordered wrong. One of us had a chocolate milkshake and that was really tasty. I hope to give Rays another shot when I'm back in DC, perhaps for dinner sometime to try their famous skillet fried chicken or their steak, plus the corn bread and mac and cheese both look really good. I'd been hoping to try one of those menu items, but none of that was on their lunch menu unfortunately :( until next time!

I was really disappointed in this place. I got one of their grilled cheese sandwiches, which was incredibly oily. The bread was greasy and it was really lacking in flavor. The soup was good, but I felt queasy after eating the sandwich.

Immediately upon our arrival to DC, my family decided to go to Ray's to the Third after reading about their excellent burgers and milkshakes on Yelp. Despite arriving before the restaurant had officially opened, we were still able to be seated and order. The restaurant was obviously empty because of this and filled up somewhat over the period that we were there, which was until noon. The overall atmosphere seemed to be lacking as the interior appeared to be minimally furnished and was very dark. Our waitress was nice enough. Each member of my family ordered a different kind of burger and we got some fries to split. Although our burgers looked great and the meat was cooked to perfection, they seemed to be lacking in any sort of taste. Maybe it was spice they needed or something else, but regardless, they were lacking in the taste department to say the least. The fries on the other hand looked bland but were exceptional. Hot and crispy on the outside and moist and fluffy on the inside, we found the fries to be the most enjoyable aspect of the experience. To finish off our meal, my family decided to order a Chocolate Milkshake to split. While there was plenty to go around, we found the milkshake to be average at best. Overall, Ray's to the Third was not awful, but we were unimpressed, especially for what we paid.

Have been to Ray's The Steak in Silver Spring, and really like the food. Decided to try this place since it's down the street from my apartment and my dad was coming into town for a night and wanted to do a casual dinner. This place is burger/sandwich place with some other entree meals as well, but the sandwiches are the star of the restaurant. I ordered the Steak and Cheese, voted the best sandwich in DC, and I have to agree with them. It was freaking delicious. My boyfriend got one of the specialty burgers with BBQ sauce, Onion rings, and pepper jack cheese (can't remember the name), but it also was delicious. My dad got a create your own burger and also said his was very good. I tried the Ricky Bobby milkshake everyone raved about. It is a vanilla milkshake with caramel, chocolate, Bourbon, and bacon. Yes, bacon. Let's just say the shake would have been ten times better without the booze, after awhile it just started to burn they had put so much Bourbon in it. So it was alright, but the alcohol kind of ruined it...I know, who says that? Lol. But it's true. The service was lacking, and we were there early in the dinner service so I'd hate to see it at its peak, but the food made up for it.

So we've been going to Ray's Hellburgers for years (way before President Obama went!). I stick by my dogma that it is the best burger in the world. Ray's To The Third is a little different from the old location, but same great burger. A new good change is the option to get a smaller size since I only ate half of the original size before anyway and always took part home. The new bad change is that there are two options for dining: 1. Full waiter service where you sit down and eat on plates. 2. Take away service where you can sit down but the food is wrapped up in plastic and bags. I liked the old way better where is was somewhere in between those options and you got to have the plates with the cheap prices. Anyway, it's still awesome and totally worth trying!

This was our first visit, and I found it to be a bizarre place. The burgers are ok, although we ordered them medium-well and got medium rare. They're expensive though, as much as going to any normal restaurant with service. The setup is closer to a fast food joint by ordering and paying at the counter with surly employees. They don't have forks/knives setup at the table and the water is out of a weird cooler, which you get yourself. There's free popcorn (huh?) and a roll of paper towels on the table. A little too gimmicky for my taste. Overall, I don't really like how I just paid almost $40 for two people to get burgers and fries at a slightly better version of McDonalds. I'm also not even sure what the name of this place was. Hellburger? The Third? Hellburger the Third?

While I love this place, bring people, and come quite often, I've been feeling like some aspects of the restaurant have gone downhill. Service has seemed steadily worse the last few times I've gone. The most recent time my 'medium' burger was rare and completely raw in the very center (I don't mind rare, but would have returned it had I known the center was raw before I got to it), and my wife's burger was very rare. It felt like since it was late at night they just wanted to get people out the door asap.

Fantastic steak. You can get just about anything you can find on the original Ray's menu here, and the quality is the same. This place is about the food first, but we found the ambience just fine. Nice lighting, pleasant wait staff, great drink options, especially wine. We had the filet wrapped in bacon, and it was sublime. Why pay two to three times as much for a steak just because the restaurant has wood paneling? The mashed potatoes were fantastic, but the broccoli was just steamed. Nothing to write home about. Order the mushrooms--they perfectly complement the steak. Finally, the bartender provided an excellent recommendation for after dinner drinks. These people earn your loyalty.

located in an unmarked apartment building almost exactly across the street from ray's hell burgers the only way you'll know you're there is by the 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper in the window that identifies it. the sit down restaurant is quite large and so far reservations are not allowed nor needed. sticking to what michael landrum is known for, the steaks are delicious and very well priced. each steak comes with a side salad and baguette. if you are able to save room for an after dinner dessert then try one of the house specialty alcoholic milkshakes. when your check arrives, you'll be treated to a small piece of fudge. you'll also be happy to know that all major credit cards are excepted. favorites: new york strip with red wine infused herb butter, southern style chicken sandwich, spicy chicken sandwich, breakfast burger and all milkshakes.

Had the Hell and Back Burger or some shit. One of the best, and definitely the biggest burger I've had. It was beastly, and I think I recall it coming with unlimited fries, but good luck with that after you get through the burger. The waitress was very attentive and prompt, and we did not sit around waiting for a check long after we finished. Really damn good. I've only been once, but I just can't find any reason to give it less than five stars.

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night after hiking at the billy goat trail. The free popcorn offered to every customer was a good first impression. I decided to try the Dogcatcher burger (with bone marrow and bacon) after trying bone marrow for the first time somewhere else but never in burger form. Simply put, this burger was fantastic and left me drooling. The onion fries were terrific as well. This place is a must if you're a burger fan in the DC area!

Another establishment checked off my Yelp Bucket List, and Ray's didn't disappoint. I don't consume meat regularly....once a month at best. It was my birthday weekend so I threw caution to the wind and tried Ray's. We ordered the cheesesteak with fried egg, double cheesesteak and a regular cheesesteak. The double really is quite large...so much so you aren't able to pick it up and eat it before eating some of the steak with a fork. Simply put, the cheesesteaks were incredible. The steak was tender and not fatty or difficult to chew. I will admit this place is a little pricey for just a cheesesteak. They also have a huge variety of sodas...if you're into soda like that. I'd definitely go again.

Mmmm Delicious! For a burger chain, this is really as good as it gets. I just ate dinner from here about 30 minutes ago and I'm totally satisfied. First, let me say this. I hadn't eaten all day, so I went in looking for something that would hold me over until tomorrow. I ordered Mac & Cheese (my favorite food of all time), the B.I.G. Poppa burger (absolutely delish) and a chocolate milkshake. Yes...I have to work out to make up for this meal tomorrow but it was well worth it. Let me start with the mac & cheese. The noodles were cooked right and the cheese they used was dynamite. It reminded me of Havarti cheese. The burger itself was delicious. I hadn't had a burger that good in...forever! The onions and mushrooms were sauteed perfectly. The burger was well done as I asked, and the cheese made it all come together. As for the milkshake. I've had better. Maybe I should've gotten a lemonade or something instead. The total cost was nearly $20. If you decide to go, beware that the burgers do not come with sides. A burger will cost nearly $10 by itself and they have different size burgers, so be sure to ask for what you want (6", 10", 12"). In terms of the atmosphere, it's not necessarily an intimate spot. For instance, you definitely wouldn't want to take your date here. The layout reminds me of an open school cafeteria, although nice. Don't expect to see booth seating, candles on the tables, slow music playing, etc. This is more of an in and out eatery.

4.5 stars. The service was pleasant. We were seated right away. Parking is tight nearby. Had to park a block away. The menu selection is appetizing. There are several items of interest. A burger, and streak lovers haven. Not to forget their milkshake selection. I ordered the hell burger and it was delicious. For a dollar more I got a nice salad. They offer dominion root beer. Definitely a nice spot to eat and chat. Albeit our table was taken care of the couple beside us did not get waited on and walked out. It is a busy restaurant. Casual dining, nice ambience. A step up from a burger joint and shy of fancy.

Not too impressed. The burgers were made thick and very appealing to the eye...which I like... definitely a nice presentation but I honestly feel they were lacking flavor. I wished they would have lived up to their full potential. I want to go back because I feel like I'm missing something here at least to try something else but as far as the burgers...nah.
