I had to be in DC last Thursday for work and thank goodness Bozzelli's was brave enough to stay open Wed. evening even with the hazardous road conditions. After a 3 hour commute (not complaining bc I was luckier than most), I finally arrived at the Hyatt famished. I didn't have to walk far when I saw the light at the end of the tunnel......I was ecstatic to find this small, warm and inviting subshop still open for business. Even though it was risky for anyone to still be out, the staff was welcoming and happy to serve me. I settled on The Original, provolone steak and cheese w/ a large fry on the side...delicioso! The bread was so fresh and perfectly toasted with the freshest ingredients that had my stomach begging for more. I washed it all down with Lou's sweet iced tea.....the best iced tea I have ever tasted - no joke - you could say I'm a iced tea guru. Considering the weather conditions and how the next day could play out, I grabbed a few for the road. Just when I thought I had ordered enough, I noticed on the counter Mama Bozzelli had left some assorted fresh baked breads and cakes I couldn't resist. All in all, this was a 5-star experience for me. I hope the office sends me on more business trips near Crystal City. Until then, Bozzelli's - do me a solid and put a store near my office!

We stayed at a nearby hotel and walked down to carry out. AWESOME! I had the cheesesteak and french fries, my friend had the turkey and dill havarti. I also got the tomato cucumber salad and a side salad. All was delicious. We were grubbing in the hotel room so happy and satisfied. If I lived anywhere near I'd go here a lot.

Very small take out sandwich shop. Does not have the full menu of other Bozzelli's locations. Typical opening week glitches in service, but the manager seemed to be on top of things so I think that will settle down. I got the Prosciutto, Mozzarella, and Roasted Pepper. The fresh mozzarella, and the peppers were excellent, but the prosciutto was just good. The bread was nothing special. For the area, it was a very good sandwich, but I don't think it is worth the walk from Crystal City proper, especially during the lunch rush when the waiting area will be packed and confusing.

Wow what a great surprise. Came to DC for work, staying down the street at Courtyard and didnt feel like driving around for food. So I walked over and got a small pizza and sweat tea. Wow I didn't expect so much. Pizza was absolutely delicious and huge (got the small, could only eat 2/3). Staff very friendly and nice. Stuck up a conversation. While I was waiting one guy came in and wanted pizza but didnt wanna pay. Said he'd pay later. Another guy came in and wanted his pizza cooked a certain way in the oven. The staff said just come behind the counter and cook it the way you want. Then he looked at me and asked if I want to cook my own too. I laughed and said no thanks. Can't comment on the sandwiches but they looked good. Great experience, reccommend.

Yum! The pizza here is delicious, I recommend that you check it out. I also love all of the little pre-made salads that they have in the cooler. My only complaint about this place is that inside seating is limited - there are just 3 stools sitting at a small shelf stuck onto the window. There are a couple of tables outside, so if it's a nice and warm night, you can sit out there. It's more conducive to take-out than dining in.

Great pizza, the sauce is fantastic. Great service

Great food, great environment, great ownership. Can't say enough good things about this place

Pretty close to back home pizza (Jersey). The breakfast sandwich is good too.

Went for lunch on a nice Thursday. Had the $6 burger with fries. Ok deal for six bucks. Not the best tasting burger, but ok. Sat outside and something dripped on me and my friend swatted at invisible bugs.

Located on the first floor of a trendy apartment at the southern end of Crystal City. Phone-in orders are easy and the service is prompt. Staff is friendly and they don't have the ubiquitous tip jar that so many take-away eateries assault you with. Food itself is top-notch for a pizza and sandwich shop and the prices are reasonable.

4.5. I've had the pizza (plain cheese) and a sub now (prosciutto, mozzarella, red peppers and basil) and both were excellent! I particularly enjoyed the sub. Mike is very friendly and you can tell he puts effort into learning about his regular customers. While I was in there, there was another customer raving about the rice pudding and cannoli--I look forward to a cannoli next time my sweet tooth kicks in. Apparently they're the only delivery company authorized to deliver right to Concord residents' door--awesome!

The Originial Pepperoni is the BEST!!!! Love it!!!!

This place is amazing. I've been going to the Springfield and Ft. Belvior locations for about 13 years and it's the best sub I've ever had. The bread is big and fluffy but can hold the contents without falling apart, and the meat selection is great. A solid, working-class kinda sub that'll put you in a food coma for sure. Get the Pepperoni Steak and Cheese. It'll blow your mind.

Man, I love Bozzelli's!! ...and I'm sure Mike B. loves me because of all the money I spend in there. LOL. However, this is a great place to get a sub or some pizza. Also, the lemon cake is crack....eat with caution. The main location is in Springfield, but when I discovered there was one closer to me I was quite pleased. They have good breakfast too.

Sandwiches are delicious - the only good Italian sandwich in Arlington outside the Italian Store. Sweet potato fries and onion rings are delicious. Steak sub yummy too. A great find on a hidden Crystal City street by the Renaissance Hotel. Best sandwich shop for miles around. Also nice to support a locally owned and locally run business.

Ugh. Raw bacon on a breakfast sandwich. I had to throw my $3.39 egg sandwich out. Don't go to Bozzelli's Italian Deli for breakfast.

Great Food, but the restaurant is small and doesn't leave much room for a sit down meal. We really enjoyed the meal though.

It's been a while since I ordered pizza from this place. I had to get 5 large pizzas for a meeting. I ordered the Fugetaboutit (which is pepperoni and sausage), Pepperoni, Cheese, Veggie and the Classic Italian (Sausage, Pepperoni, Onion, Mushrooms, Olives & Green Peppers). The five pizzas came up to $100 (and some change). A little pricey compared to the major pizza chains but I felt as if it was worth the few extra bucks. I know the phrase "everything tasted fresh" is often overstated. However; in this case everything truly did taste fresh. The pepperoni and sausage was high quality and the dough used was fluffy which provided a very enjoyable crust. I will definitely order here again next time I am in the mood for pizza. I look forward to trying their white pizza.

I really enjoyed my Italian cold-cut sub. The pepper relish is just the right spice and sweet level. The desserts are good as well. I recommend the lemon cake. The only con I have is there is no room to eat inside. This is more of a pick-up and take-out kind of place. I will be going back for sure.

Staying at the Hyatt at Crystal City and we were looking for some pizza to be delivered. So glad we picked Bozzelli's, the order was prompt (took CC) and like they promised, it was delivered within 25 minutes which is really good, surprised how fast. Not only was it quick delivery, it was hot. The driver was nice and the pizza was EXCELLENT! If you are staying in the area I would order from here.

I'm not a huge fan of delis because sandwiches usually turn out to have too much bread and skimp on the filling, thus resulting in an anti-climactic lunch and ensuing risk factor for food coma. We decided to give this a try because the only alternative was Starbucks next door. Plus, how can you turn down a place named Bozzelli's? Despite being a small casual place and predominantly for grab-and-go lunches, it's charming--pastel-colored patio furniture outside and lots of checkered patterns on the inside. The server was also very friendly and had an extensive conversation with us as we waited for our sandwich. The CHICKEN PARMESAN was the right balance of bread, fried chicken, cheese, and misc veggies; it was not too carby, cheesy, or saucy though somewhat on the salty side for my tastes. We got the 8" and split the halves between 2 people, and it was just the right portion for a satisfying but relatively light lunch. It seems that everything about my sandwich met my standards with Goldilocks precision: just right. My only other comment is that there is an adorable drawing of a cow at the storefront, but the caption "cows make steak and milk" is sho sad... I guess happy cows indeed only come from California.

  • Sara W.

I love this place. I usually head to the Crystal City location because it is a little closer, but it is a lot smaller and with a much more limited menu. Not to worry. They have the metro and the meatball subs that are a must to eat. You will not care that you are ingesting so many calories...it is that darn good. The bread is soft, the meats fresh and flavorful. The sauces are truly great. I don't think a better sandwich of the same type can be found.

    (4)
  • Wei F.

You can't go wrong with anything here, except if you forget to tell them to hold the mayo or go light on it. There was so much mayo in my italian classic sandwich that it was the only thing I could taste. It was un salvageable. Otherwise it would have been decent (not nearly the best around but a passable sandwich). It seems they might be better with the hot foods. The meatball sub and eggplant parm were flavorful and had a good balance of cheese and sauce. Overall, this place is a worthy option if you're in the area. But geez, hold that mayo!! (You'll see this problem pop up in other reviews as well)

    I'm staying at the Hyatt where a sandwich runs close to 25 bucks, so I opted for something in the neighborhood. Bozzelli's is a tiny place, designed for mostly take-out orders. I came for Pizza (reviews indicated it was probably good). I ordered a small pizza, I chose the "Fuggetaboutit" (pepperoni with sausage). It was quite a bit better than I expected. Lots of cheese, the sausage was quite good. Service was not quick, but pizza takes some time to cook, so I am okay with that. They've got subs and desserts, and wine, and...lots of choices. 4 folks working here on an Saturday night, I'm the only customer. I sure hope they got busier. All in all, the pizza was very good. Check this place out. [You're results may very}

  • Beth M.

I expected so much based on all the Yelp reviews. I didn't get what they are known for (pizza) and I was disappointed. I got the eggplant sandwich. It had absolutely no taste at all. None. The fries had a taste that wasn't recognizable. I threw most of it away. The place is cute. People who worked there very nice. I guess I should have tried the pizza.

  • Jeff K.

Great sandwich. I had the original and the staff there is awesome at helping out. The flavor and texture was the best I've had in awhile. I'm giving 4 stars strictly because of room to eat. There's just a couple tables inside and also outside. Great selection of beer and wine and id imagine that most of what they do is take out to the area hotels and apartments. So perhaps room to stay and eat isn't that important. Most importantly fresh pipes cannoli to round it out. Highly suggest this place.

Mike's Mom makes a delicious couscous salad which is light, cool, tasty, healthy and a refreshing meal or side dish for summer. Thanks for listening to me Mike.

  • Chantel S.

One star is for the friendly, polite employees; the other is for the sauce. The pizza was so oily/soggy that the bottom of the box nearly broke. My kitchen island had a puddle from the bottom of the greasy box. There was hardly any sauce on the pizza, but the little bit I was able to taste was pretty good. There is potential, but overall, just not a good pie. My first and last visit.....also, the price on their web page was lower ($8.99) than I was charged ($9.99)

  • R R.

The problem here is that the owner doesn't seem to care about the health of his customers. They serve the sandwiches on sub rolls that are made with partially hydrogenated oil, which contains trans fats, which are very unhealthy (and rated "not generally recognized as safe" by the FDA). When this was pointed out to the owner, he just shrugged and didn't seem to care. Avoid getting any sandwiches at this place. They do have some good desserts but no way to know if those are made with partially hydrogenated oils either. They do make pizza and that is likely to be fine since it's made with fresh dough.

This place was awesome! Got the turkey and dill havarti sandwich. It was delicious!! The employees were super nice as well. Absolutely go try it out and don't forget to Tip!

  • Yan W.

I really have to thank my fellow yelpers for this gem. I've eaten a lot of sandwiches in my day, but the "original" takes the cake. Imagine one of the best steak and cheese sandwiches in your life with melted pepperoni on top? It's like saying Brad Pitt isn't enough, here's Brad with a kitten. Sure, my closet is larger than the space in this restaurant, and the line is out the door, but who cares? I was able to get a carry out order in around 15 minutes.

  • Nico P.

Ordered a meatball sub and it tasted great. The problem came about 20 minutes later. I had food poisoning and diarrhea! I spent most of my evening praying to the porcelain God.

Quite happy with my recent visits. Excellent pizza. Friendly and helpful staff. In the past they seemed close randomly once in a while and didn't always follow the posted hours, but seemed to have fixed this problem. Also, their sandwiches are very good and they have a nice selection of beer and wine.

  • Maggie R.

I work right across from Bozzellis and love their hearty sandwiches. Additionally, we had our holiday party catered through them - great value and such a big hit. Their pasta dishes are as good as they get! They were very flexible and easy to work with. Highly recommended. I do miss your breakfast sandwiches now that you don't serve breakfast, but one day, I'll get over it.

I'm a teacher and rarely get the opportunity to got out for lunch, but between parents conferences I stopped here to pick up a sub. I ordered the chicken parm. I thought it was great and is get if again. Much better then subway! The place is cute and had quick service. Next time I'll try the pizza.

  • Gaetano P.

Got two pizzas, cheese and pepperoni, both good. Not an explosion of oregano and basil (the mistake of most pizza places) and the dough was good as well. I would normally only give 4 stars but it was pouring rain and the manager or owner (not sure of his role) walked me back to my truck with an umbrella. That kind of courtesy deserves an extra star. I'll be back when in DC again.

  • Peter M.

Went there on a saturday morning. Very narrow door and several items that impede the area to walk in. Terrible for my wife who is in a wheelchair. Biggiest gripe is the price. Bozzelli's needs to change price marker to $$. A place that sells a sub for $14.25 is a rip off (with tax).

    (2)
  • Lewanda M.

Their pizza is delish! I make sure to grab one every time I am in town. The Meaty Boy is my go-to fave. Seating is limited but takeout is always an option.

  • Shelina M.

Ummm, this place is awesome. AWESOME. As in, I have never written a yelp review for anywhere in my life. Bozelli's has amazing food and even better staff!! Rated the #1 place in Crystal City in my book. Two thumbs up for Mike!!!!!! Opened the place up for me late night on a Friday night because I was craving carrot cake. What??!! Who else does that? :)

  • Rokeya J.

This is one of those places that when you bite into your sandwhich your eyes will roll to the back of t head. The original is sooooo good. No need to go to Philly for a Philly cheese steak sandwich. This place has got you covered

    (5)
  • Doug S.

4.5 stars. I had their meatball sub, which I use to gauge all Italian delis, and MDC had a Philly cheesesteak with pepperoni. Both sandwiches we outstanding. Looking around at the other patrons' food, everything looked great. Wide selection of drinks. Service is fast and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. While there are a couple of high tables (which we used), and some outdoor seating, this place is small and mostly geared toward takeout. Think of a small, abundantly stocked, cramped, big menu, awesome Italian deli in Philadelphia or NYC and you'll understand Bozelli's. You will not be disappointed here.

Awesome white pizza!!!! Fast delivery, through yelp. Did I mention the tasty white pizza?!!!

Pretty decent pizza for this area! I had it delivered and it came hot. The middle was a little on the soft side but the toppings were top notch. I'd order from here again. Maybe next time to ask them to bake it a little longer. I love my pizzas NY style which I can fold to eat!

  • Helen G.

So I ordered a delivery of a pizza, steak sub and tuna. It takes about 40 minutes for us to have the food, which is pretty fast in a raining day. After we opened the food bag, we noticed that they have mistaken my tuna salad with another sub, which is a bit disappointing counting on that we want some vegetables at night. However, it is still acceptable since size of the food is enough for us, actually a lot! and we are very hungry in such a raining day lol. We are actually surprised when the guy come back again an hour later, saying that they made a mistake in delivering the food, and give us our food FREE in return. Seriously?!!! Frankly speaking, it is not the free food that we have that make my day, but their customer service, since we did not even notify them of that mistake and they realized it! Really appreciate that and thank you for being so prompt in a raining day like this! :) Definitely recommend this place!

I really like Bozzelli's for multiple reasons: 1. FOOD- The pizza is delicious! And they have really creative offerings, such as the Mic Mac (think mac & cheese pizza). But more than just pizza, they have yummy subs (eggplant parm, anyone??), AND amazing breakfast sandwiches. Starbucks is right next door but Bozzelli's breakfast sandwiches are 20x better than those from Starbucks. They also sell authentic Italian foodstuff like mozzarella and jars of pickles (okay, maybe pickles aren't that Italian, but still, it's cool). 2. DRINK- They have really unique wine and beer that you can buy there, including chocolate wine and Copa di Vino (which was featured on Shark Tank for all of you who like that show as well). They also sell bottled OJ, water, etc. 3. STAFF- Everyone is really nice and Mike does a great job on Twitter and Instagram. So all-in-all, Bozzelli's is a cute little place and I would definitely recommend it!

If You miss this place ----- Your missing life !! Crystal City & other locations too ----- real Italian Guy and breakfast is about the breakfast biscuit made from eggs from REAL CHICKENS --- pizza as you want it ---as well during the day --- a cool breeze and the coldest beer in town !! My favorite when in C.C,VA

Seating is more plentiful outside than inside which can be close quarters. I noticed that this restaurant has removed its photo of Bowe afterwards. Lots of other patriotic flags and patches remain on the wall. The prices have gone up but the restaurant remains a good deal. This is a deli around the corner from the Hyatt Regency hotel. Steak and cheese and egg plus vegetarian sandwiches are recommended. I thought bread could be a little bit firmer or drier with the wet peppers added. Overall, this deli is famous for a first class sandwich. The line was literally out the door at lunch time so a lot of other people agree and have voted with their feet.

I love this place!!! My boyfriend loves the cheeseburger and curly fries. I always get the eggplant Parmesan sandwich which is awesome!! I've never had a problem and we go all the time. You can't go wrong :)

This place is an in-expected surprise! Thank goodness for yelp. We saw the reviews so came to check it out and wow the fugetaboutit pizza was amazing and meatball sandwich was great. Wish they had this place in Houston or Southern California where we are from! Friendly staff , excellent food and good prices!

The pizza is great! I had the pizza. Omg they got something here. I ordered 3 time this week. The staff is friendly. It's not a place for large groups. I will come here often!

This is probably on the verge of a 5 star but I'm not sure if I can give a pepperoni cheese steak a 5 star rating. In as much as you can rate steak sandwiches, this very well may be the best one I've ever had. Ok then, I guess to be fair, it deserves to be a 5. Take that in the realm of this being a lunch stop as opposed to a destination. Having said that, if you go out of your way to get a sandwich here I don't think you're going to be disappointed. It's good, really good. The base of the sandwich is a standard cheese steak, but instead of gorging you with steak, they mix it up with pepperoni to give you a nice little spicy bite with the sandwich. The mix is fantastic. Just really tasty. I got it with the works, which I think is the way to go. The consistency & flavors merge well. In all, really good. We were staying around the corner and I had to find a quick lunch and Yelp says this is 4 star worthy. It was raining out and this was something like .1 miles away. Ok, let's give it a shot. I go in and ask what I should get and the guy says this is what they're famous for. I'm up for it. 1 sandwich later and I'm a satisfied customer. This review doesn't need to be any longer because it's not a real complicated meal and it's not a real complicated place. Walk in, order, wait, then walk out. There are a few tables but generally this is going to be in & out. For less than $10 I got a very good lunch on a very not good day. Well worth it. As far as cheese steaks go, 5 stars.

Bozzelli's Italian Deli is HANDS DOWN one of the best deli's in the Washington D.C./Virginia area. As a veteran food reviewer, I look for three things: Quality, Value, & Customer Service. Quality: All of Bozzelli's sandwiches/pies are made to order and include only the finest ingredients. From the mouthwatering cheese steak to the succulent chicken parm, this place could easily hold its own against the Carnegie's and Gino's of the world. Bozzelli's bread is just what you would expect from a respectable Italian-American establishment: soft, fresh, and toasted to perfection. Throw in a side of crispy tater-tots or gooey mozzarella sticks and you've got yourself a meal that will leave you shaking your head in disbelief. Oh, did I mention they also serve breakfast? Try a steak, egg, and cheese on a warm buttermilk biscuit--then go next door and buy some stationary so you can write home about it... Value: Remember the old adage, "You get what you pay for"? Bozzelli's turns that notion on it's head. This place gives you much more than what you pay for, and shelling out a few extra bucks for the best sandwich on the eastern seaboard is a small price to pay when you consider the long-lasting impact Bozzelli's will have on your life. Customer Service: Italians are known for their hospitality, and Bozzelli's staff are no exception. As soon as I walked into the place, I felt like I was back in my grandmother's kitchen helping her prepare for a big italian feast. On one particular occasion, I complemented the staff on their wonderful establishment; afterwards, my friends and I returned to our seats outside to wait for our food. Minutes later, Mama Bozzelli hand delivered red velvet cupcakes and chocolate brownie bites to our table--on the house. Other notable bonuses include daily specials, craft beer, and godfather-themed t-shirts. Questo posto è bellissimo!

My favorite Italian deli sandwich in Crystal City; the ingredients and construction are simply better than other places in the area. I've experimented with several sides like pasta salad and tiramisu and those are great too. They also have one of the biggest bottled beer selections for the area. Definitely worth walking a little farther down Crystal Dr!

  • Lisa V.

Bozzelli's make the best sweet pepper and onion pizza in town. Reminds me of the pizzas in New York. If you are looking for a place that reminds you of home ...this is the place to go.

  • Rob B.

Their meatball sub and "Metro" Italian Cold Cut (get it hot) are really, really good. Their steak & cheese is decent. I've heard great things about their pizza but haven't had it yet. Their seating situation is unfortunate, but there are plenty of places in Crystal City to go, sit and eat while people watching within a couple blocks. Definitely worth the trip!

Very cool places! Lots of yummy food options and plenty of interesting booze choices. Not really room to dine in, but great as an alternative to room service.

My apologies, I wrote a review for a diner that somehow posted for this restaurant. That said, I immediately received a polite and concerned follow up email from the management to inquire. I am impressed that the management cares about us yelpers and pays attention to the feedback.

  • Kresenda K.

I feel so silly saying this, but this is by far the best delivery subs I've ever had. The customer service from the delivery is above 5 stars. The subs are simple, but delicious. The burgers are good (and always made right). But the service from the staff? Stellar. Try their subs. It's hard to describe. Sometimes something that is simply made and made just how you want it is better than any over priced food. Bozzelli's is my go to dinner when I don't want to cook.

I can't stress enough the importance of checking out the ingredients here if you have a food allergy. They put pesto on their Eggplant Parm and don't mention it anywhere. I am very allergic to pine nuts which is in most pesto. I called to find out after getting back and opening up my Sando and had to talk to someone who works in the back and doesn't speak English very well because the manager had left. You can't expect someone with poor english to communicate with your customers if they can't tell the difference between "pine nuts" and "parmesan." And if your employees can't communicate well enough to explain this, you shouldn't leave them alone in your store. It's a shame because the food wasn't terrible. I'd probably have given a 4 if it wasn't such a hassle.

Pizza is good almost anywhere but I'm from Kansas City- not necessarily the pizza capitol of the world. This pie was hot, the beer was cold, and the experience was awesome. What I'll remember most was the experience on vacation with my family but the food was excellent and the service was top notch. I threw a dollar in the tip jar and the guy gave me a chocolate bar for my son. If you're looking for excellent pizza or just a good time, hit this place up.

Yesterday I went to Bozzeli's in Crysal City. Luckily I was able to find a free parking space around the corner from Bozzeli's. When I entered the deli I was surprised to see individual beers in the refrigerator and I think they had six packs for sale. Next I proceeded to the counter where I was greeted by a friendly cashier who took my order for an 8 inch steak and cheese with pepperoni. The weather was nice and there weren't many tables inside, so I took a seat outside. After people watching for less then ten minutes my sandwich was delivered to me. The sandwich was tasty, it was one of the better steak and cheeses I've had in Northern Virginia, the pepperoni added a nice saltiness to the overall flavor.

Bozelli's, O how I love thee! The staff here is amazing! They are super friendly and really good with faces...it feels good when you walk into a place of business and the staff remembers you and they already know what you want. I've never had a bad experience here. Their burgers are to die for and I love their seasoned french fries! I've had a side salad and cheese pizza here and all of it was very good. They also serve breakfast. I've had the steak, egg and cheese sandwich with tater tots...one word---DELICIOUS! It works out well for those who love Starbucks because they are located right next door. The space is rather small...there are 3 hi-boys inside with about 3 stools each. They also have a couple of tables outside. So be prepared to order your food "to go" if you go during peak hours. There are several hotels and office buildings surrounding the restaurant so that's the crowd you're likely to run into. I cannot comment on the parking situation as I usually walk over. The restaurant, though small, is always tidy. They also have wine, desserts and a few other miscellaneous , grocery items available for purchase. I highly recommend this place!

Food is decent here--the highlights are the pepperoni and steak sub, and the breakfast (bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit is my favorite). The pizza is alright too, nothing special, but it will do the trick. The cooler has some salads that you should steer clear of, but it also holds their beer, which is expensive, but convenient. They also have a shelf of wine, if that's more your thing. The real thing that brings this review up to 4 stars is the service. There are truly nice and friendly people working here at all times of the day. I don't go that often, but I'm usually recognized anyway, and the cashiers are always up for cheery conversation. This is enough, combined with the food, to keep my business for a long time.

I went to Bozelli's five or six times due to its convenient location and didn't understand what the fuss was about. Sure, the people working there are really nice, and service is fast, but the food just wasn't doing it for me. I tried the prepared salads (bland but edible), breakfast sandwiches (not bad, but not worth the calories), rice pudding (fine, but nothing special), vegetarian cousin sandwich (overpowering with its red peppers, but I might try it again and add some extra toppings to balance out the flavor), and pizza (too much cheese, and that's the first time in my life I've ever thought anything had too much cheese on it). But then I met the Pepperoni, Steak, and Cheese sub. I was expecting it to be like a cheesesteak, but it was more like a warm roast beef sandwich with spicy pepperoni, tomatoes, lettuce (I think), and delightfully warm mayonnaise on it. The large is big enough for two very hungry people to share, and the regular size is big enough for two kind of hungry people to share. Don't waste your time with anything that sounds healthier.

I am sorry to post this review. I really enjoyed the food but it took me a couple of times to realize that I was being overcharged. I went on on Friday June 12, 2014 and picked up a to go menu. I am staying around the corner of this restaurant for the next 3 months. I order the Senator Italian Cheeseburger. On the menu it lists for $6.99 with fries. When I sat down to look at the bill I was charged $7.99. I thought this must be just and error and it was only a dollar. I decided to try the restaurant again today. June 16, 2014. I ordered the 10" Fugetaboutit pizza and I added one item for an extra dollar. When I went in to pick it up they charged me a dollar more then the menu said. I asked the young man about it and he said that I was ordering from an old menu. It was the one that I picked up on the previous Friday. They also still had the old ones in a bucket with the old prices. Now I not really worries about the dollar but the young man made it sound like my fault and said he was charging me the new prices I told the young man that this was bad business and that I would not be back.

Driving though on our way to NC we needed to stop for a quick bite and the wife decided on Bozelli's.... Won't lie, I was extremely skeptical of the place based on the location... It's in a crappy little strip mall... DON'T , the food won't disappoint We got 2 sandwiches and fries as we didn't have time to try the Za, though it looked tasty... The sandwiches we got were the chicken Philly and the famous Italian... Both were fantastic... Great bread, great meats... Only knock I have, the fries were blah... A bit undercooked Try the place, you won't be disappointed...

Wow, I'm so impressed with Bozzelli's. Super fast delivery, delicious sub sandwich and the best cannoli filling I've ever tasted. Definitely will be ordering again.

Wow what a sandwich... The original is awesome and the seasoned fries are great as well

Yelpers, I fear you may have let me down on this one. All I wanted today was something with melty cheese that wasn't pizza. (I guess I should have stuck with their pizza, because that has pretty good reviews on here.) However, I went with option 2: a pepperoni steak and cheese. Now just to clarify: I normally like my steak and cheeses with only ketchup, mayo and fried onions, so I'm used to it being a little more moist and definitely cheesy. I had my hopes set so high by the reviews here, and while the meat was good, the pepperoni was nice and spicy, the peppers and onions were a great addition, and the bun was not so soft that it soaked everything up (but still a bit soft for my liking), they didn't put any cheese on it. Cue a sad face... So here's what I think: The location is awesome. The fact that they have good beer and a fair wine selection, plus some random goodies, also awesome. Forgetting about the "cheese" part of a steak and cheese? -2 stars, guys. Come on. The kid at the register was really nice and offered to have them make another one, but I was slightly in a hurry, and think it's wasteful to have them make me a second sandwich, so I just went with it. Thankfully the peppers and onions gave it some moisture.... Overall, I trust you guys. I'll go back, though I'll probably stick with my tried-and-true steak and cheese, or I'll try some of the pizza...

Thank you Bozzelli's for giving us NY transplants an italian food haven in Crystal City. The food is so good we would probably keep coming back anyway, but your awesome staff really make the place GREAT! Mike makes it feel a real neighborhood, and the awesome women in the kitchen are friendly, fast and efficient, and wonderful cooks. Love that they can fry an egg to perfection every time. Bozzelli's is a great place for take-out or picnic fixings, and our favorite place for a real and fresh breakfast sandwich and smooth, hot Illy coffee at the comfy outside tables (which make it easy to have a Saturday morning out with your pooch). They even serve kaiser rolls! (just like home). The daily specials are insane. Lobster roll and fries for $9.99 anyone?! Other favorites are the rice pudding, the pies and cakes, tater tots, the specialty wine, and the Chicken parmesan sandwich that comes with a lovely pesto sauce and a toasted roll, and it is details like these that make this a conistently top performer in Crystal city. My only complaint is that they are closed on Sundays.

Was going to order delivery and then decided to walk the two to three blocks from our hotel. It was a really nice night out and we sat outside and ate our four meat pizza (pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and meatball). It was delicious! They had a better beer selection on the shelf than in the fridge (what's the point of that? Not going to drink them warm or buy a four or six pack of warm beer to take home when I can get it at a supermarket or liquor store cheaper). We had a great time and the food was great!

Stopped in for a late lunch and was a little surprised to find this place. It's a tiny place with very limited seating. It's really more set up for take out and delivery. I ordered an Italian sub and it was pretty solid. Overall I would say this is a 3.5 star lunch spot but I'll round up because Frankie Blue Eyes was pumping through the stereo system.

Ordered 2 12" subs.....received one 12" & one 8". Looking on their *in-store* menu I was charged for 2 12" subs ($21+ change with tax)....looking at their *online* menu i was charged for one 12" sub, one 8" sub. Didn't realize the sandwiches were drastically different in size until back to the Potomac Yard shopping center. Food was phenomenal, as i have come to expect from Bozzelli's Alban Rd destination. Customer service was also on point. I simply would like to know if the boyfriend and i were overcharged for a 8" original (when we ordered a 12") or properly charged for an 8" original (when yes, once again, I ordered a 12"). I want to try the pizza, but I will not be going out of my way to go back to this location, especially until the in-store menu and online menu differ.

Gross!! The quality of their cold cut meats is just gross and who likes Low Quality meat!?! I use to love this place back in the day at its original location in Ft Belvoir, Va. I don't know if they sold the business to new management or if its being run by the same Owners but this place has gone downhill. Customers still like their pizza and people say the steak & cheese is hit or miss. One reviewer referred to the steak & cheese as steak-umm type meat while another raved about it . In my opinion don't take a chance.

Solid! My fiance picked up a pizza for us from Bozzelli's and we really enjoyed it. He ordered a large Pepperoni, Steak, and Cheese pizza, which was delicious! I'd never had steak on a pizza before and it worked out. Even hours later, as leftovers, the pizza was great! Not the best pizza I've ever had, but certainly a strong contender as a great pizza choice in the Arlington area!

Great sub !!! Enjoy the street scene as I ate outside . Definitely a must try if you are staying at one of the many hotels close by !!! Metro Italian sub and a Dogfish Punkin Ale to wash it down !!!

This is my go-to pizza/Italian food delivery place in Arlington. I grew up in CT, so I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Italian delivery. The pizza at Bozzelli's is the best in the area, IMHO. The subs are also great - especially the Chicken Parmesan sub. If you want a "real" experience, tell them to hold the pesto and onion. It's just about as good as what I grew up with. My only gripe is that mayo seems to sneak into places where it's not expected. In my world, mayo is a disgusting, toxic substance, so I always add "NO MAYO!!!!" to the special instructions for every order. I'm not sure why they want to slather everything with it, but it's easier to nip it in the bud, rather than have it show up unexpected. I've never been to their location, but their delivery is very fast, and the drivers are always great.

One of the best cheese steak sandwiches I have had, and definitely the best sandwich place around here. Included with your meal is a very friendly staff as well!

Went looking for dinner on the first night of our vacation. Bozzelli's was close to our hotel and open. Nice place, small inside, but good vibe. I order the original pepperoni and steak sandwich, my wife had the chicken parm sub, and we shared an order of curly fries. Both sandwiches were excellent, and the curly fries were perfect! Really hit the spot after a day of travel. Would definitely come back if we are in town!

We ordered a 10 in. Casino pizza, 12 in. Steak and Cheese sub and a Senator burger. The biggest issue I had was with communication with the person on the phone. English did not seem to be their primary language. In addition, the order placed did not match what was delivered. The description on Yelp of Casino pizza did not match the delivered product. We also received fries and some sort of dessert that was never ordered. Worse yet, they took my credit card info without giving a total or providing a receipt of the order. I have no idea what I was charged... In addition, they did not honor the $2 off Yelp coupon because the driver forgot to bring his scanner?? The food itself was very good... The Pizza had a great crust. The two sandwiches were good but a bit heavy on the mayo. The fries (not ordered) were actually kind of bad. The small order of curly fries were soggy and greasy (and cold). If management would address ordering process, I would rate slightly higher.

After a day of walking all over DC, we sure didn't feel up to walking any distance to go eat at 7pm. Fortunately, Bozzelli's was right across the street from the Hyatt Regency--their sign was even visible from our window. They have a great website that outlines the full menu; that, along with the pictures on Yelp, made it look like a good place to go. My husband returned saying the deli "had the nicest folks." He ordered a pesto chicken salad for me, and they grilled the chicken right then. Normally salad out of a plastic clam shell container isn't a grand thing, but wow, that was a good salad. My husband had a sandwich and really enjoyed it. The bread and meat were fantastically fresh. Just a great experience overall!

They use Pre-Cooked beef on the 8 inch cheese steak. PRE-COOKED has no flavor and was soggy.

Wow, this place was awesome. Best sub I have had in years. I can't believe I just found them. We'll definitely become regular customers. Their customer service was top notch too.

I'm actually surprised that it took me this long to write this. I live deathly close - so to say I'm a regular at Bozzelli's is like saying I like I'm a fan of breathing, or sleeping. This is exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood deli. There aren't many frills here, which coincidentally, is exactly the way I like it. It's about as close to NY Pizza as you can get in Virginia. hands down as good, or better as the Italian Store in Rosslyn (I think so). The Steak, Peperoni and Cheese sub is the best sandwich, I think. Also, get the Egg bacon and Cheese on the white kaiser roll for your morning meal - you'll wonder why you do breakfast anywhere else. Mike, the proprietor, is a real stand up guy. Just tell him that Mac Attack sent you, and you might get bumped to the front of the line.

    (5)
  • Josh K.

The pizza here is awesome, they put serious effort into the crust and sauce, which makes all the difference... and the sandwiches will really really hit the spot if you're hungry. Oh, and the breakfast here is addictive. This place is good, but don't expect health food! Staff here is really great. Its pretty cool to go to a restaurant and have the guy who its named after make your pizza...

I didn't like the pizza at all. The crust wasn't done, the sauce wasn't good, and the cheese was bad and had way too much. Not going back.

  • Lizette A.

I'm very particular when it comes to a decent italian sub, and Bozelli's delivers as an authentic New York deli. They have plenty of choices for subs, both hot and cold, and sell Boylan's soda and tons of beer and wine options. The staff is very friendly and the subs are consistently good. Try the Metro Italian cold cut with everything on it! Don't bother with the seating since there isn't much inside (but there are a few tables outside).

I live in Arlington and was craving pizza from back home, Jersey, and found this place on Yelp. It had 4 stars and I usually trust reviews, but should've went with my gut, this place sucked. I compare the pizza to chucky cheese, really tiny, the dough tasted like it was pre-made from the freezer, not fresh, the cheese was fake, and not enough sauce. I was expecting a slice I could pick up a folder in the center with my hands and have the cheese hang, like real pizza should be. This was overpriced chucky cheese pizza. I also order chicken wings and they were burnt to a crisp on the outside....ahh, never eating there again.

They have pizza now! The broth of the vegetable soup is delicious! But the vegetables are not bite size. Be prepared to gnaw on those big chunks for a while. The broth IS good though. #Thankyou for the cannoli! Real scrambled egg sandwich w/bacon & cheese. $2.99! And it is also humongous! Gotta love a deli that gives you your money's worth! I am truly a fan!

My husband and I were visiting relatives in DC and decided to grab personal pizza's to go as we set out on our long trip back home. We had had a long day and just wanted a simple pizza. The wait was long so we should have known from there that that was a bad sign. As we set out on our trip, we opened up the pizza and everything looked great. We took one bite, and both of our personal pizzas were completely BLACK along the bottom. So burnt that it was unbearable to eat. We were the only Customers in the store, so I can't even blame the burning on them being busy. I'm sorry, but you know when you burn a pizza! How did she even try and serve that to us?? I was also mad because the personal pizzas were WAYY over priced, and now that we had gotten on the highway etc. It wasn't even worth turning around. Nothing is more annoying then getting bad to go food ...hard to fix when you are already home, or in our case far away. I will NEVER go to this overpriced, neglectful place again!

  • Hayden G.

Wow! Tks guys! I went based on all of the reviews and it didn't disappoint. The Pepperoni, steak, and cheese sub was legit. Messy but yummy. I got everything except mayo. I'm going again. Nothing more to say.

  • Jess M.

Do you have 20 minutes to wait for a ten inch pizza sitting inside what may be the most slow baking oven known to man?! If I could go back in time, I would have just gone to McDonalds. Not only did the pizza take an eternity to bake, but I threw half of it out. The toppings were overpowering and there was too much sauce, everything just slid all over the box. It was a mess. The breakfast sandwiches sound like a good idea, but I'm not coming back.

I seriously love the meatball subs here. I wish they had seating at this location, but seating or not this is a great place to eat.

Wow, best Italian sub I've had in a long time. We're in the area for work and didn't know where to go. The crowd sitting outside at tables and waiting on orders to go was a great indicator. Helpful staff and great food. I'd highly recommend this place!

Too easy. Staying at the Hyatt around the corner. Called and twenty minutes later I am walking out with an excellent pizza. Toppings were great, especially the bacon. Can't go wrong here.

I first discovered Bozelli's at the Crystal City location --- I was at a conference and needed breakfast. I saw the sign that they use real eggs so popped in. The steak, egg and cheese sandwich on ciabatta bread is AWESOME! (capitalization earned!!!!) I went home told my husband and scurried to the Springfield location (because it has a dining room and highchairs) and tried the Meaty Boy pizza... also AWESOME! Real pieces of cripsy bacon, juicy ritz cracker sized pepperoni and tasty sausage... making this the best "meat lovers" pizza I've had in the DC area. Did the pizza for a while and finally discovered the sandwiches --- pepperoni, steak and cheese sandwich is a must try!

  • Kristen T.

This place is awesome. We just moved into the building above and Bozzelli's will definitely have 2 new regulars! We tried the Italian mama pizza and the meatball sub. The pizza was so fresh, the toppings were delicious, and just overall good pizza. The meatballs tasted like my Italian grandma's meatballs- definitely authentic Italian. The staff was friendly, and they sell wine too! Reasonable prices too! This is the best pizza I've had in the DC area.

If you're from the north, it's likely you've had good pizza and recognize this stuff is slop. The crust tastes like cardboard, the sauce is overly sweet, and the surplus of cheese does nothing to hide this pizza's inadequacies. I have yet to taste good pizza down here - I think the only reason this place has a high rating is because many people from the south don't have an adequate basis of comparison (other than Papa Johns or Dominos - which truly stinks). I would rather not eat pizza than go to this place again.

Turkey and Havarti is heavenly!!! Pizzas are also super delicious! The sauce is truly amazing, something you would like to dip almost everything you eat in!

I've been going to Bozzelli's for less than a year, but every time has been pleasurable. I always get the steak and cheese, but have had a breakfast sandwich and a slice of pizza before. Always good food. Today was recommended a bottle of wine, which I'm looking forward to popping the cork. Mike said, it's good wine, and what's really cool is the artwork on the bottle. Good food, good spirits. What more can you ask for?

  • Jack F.

An Italian deli for breakfast? Eh, why not give it a whirl. The egg sandwiches (pretty much the only thing available in the morning) are decent but nothing stellar. The highlight was the bagels, which was soft and dense. While I wished there was something truly Italian I recognize that this experience isn't reflective of an Italian Deli. I'll certainly stop by next time for an actual sandwich. In the meantime, it's A-OK. [Original Visit: Sept. 16, 2011]

Probably the best pizza I've had in the DC area. It's a little expensive... if it were a bit cheaper, I'd definitely eat here more often. Good (but small) selection of beer and wine... but again, a bit expensive.

  • Gurkie C.

I saw this place across the street from my work and was curious about it, I asked someone in the elevator who said it was good but expensive... the next work day my coworker from out of town and I decided to go. Looking at their menu they had only one vegetarian option the vegetarian cousin, I decided to ask what was in it rather than head somewhere I could pick from more options... Thin flakey really yummy bread with Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil, and Roasted Red Pepper!!! YUM! I am probably biased as these are some of my favorite ingredients, especially for a sub. So one option or not I will definitely be back. Also, I spent 7 bucks for an 8 inch sub that was worth every penny.... Although the veggie is the least expensive option. As a caveat though they had about 10 subs on the menu and no seating... Its an in and out deli...

Very good sandwiches. They put pesto on a lot of things u wouldn't expect like eggplant parm. If u don't like pesto just ask if its on something

I don't like writing a review on a place until I've been there a couple of times, however, I don't think I'll be back. I ordered a cheesesteak sub and a slice of pizza. The cheesesteak was only a few seasonings away from Steakums quality and the pizza from 7-11 can be more flavorful. Pass.

I think the previous reviewer got there a little early. I think their "soft" opening was just this week. I stopped by today for lunch. This place is only a takeout.. it's pretty cramped in the ordering area actually. I ordered the 8" Original Pepperoni Steak and cheese Sub. Magnificent! The bread was soft but toasty, good amount of meat and good mayo. Comparable prices to the other sub places around here. Pleasant service. Highly recommended!

    Great peperoni cheese steak.

  • M C.

I had takeout from Bozzelli's, and the pizza was fantastic. We had the Classic Italian Mama and the White Pizza. The toppings were generous, the sauce was perfectly tangy, and the crust was awesome--the right amount of chewy and crispy. Slices are large...4 hungry adults finished only a half of each of the two pizzas. Recommended!

  • D B.

I had high hopes for this experience....working in the general vicinity I was really in the mood for a tried & true "New England" style delicatessen. After reading the reviews I gave it a try. The service was good ~ quick turnaround from ordering to receiving my food. I ordered the The Original Pepperoni, Steak & Cheese. It was just o.k. ~ the steak, although not plentiful, was decent. I am not a fan of the soft roll. The contents of the sub seem to soak into this thing like a sponge. A hard roll would've fared better. I also ordered 2 slices of pepperoni for my 11yo. ..Just to give u an idea, this kid will eat pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He ate half of one slice and could not stomach the remaining. He stayed home from school the next day after eating this pizza. ...seriously disappointed! I can't go back

Stumbled on this place near my hotel. Been here twice and both times I got the Steak and Cheese sub. Really good food but don't expect it to be like Subway. It's not made to be super healthy for you, it's made to be delicious. Definitely a place to stop by when in town.

I love Bozzelli's! It's my natural go-to place for food, since I live upstairs. They're fast and convenient. Mike, the proprietor, always remembers me (and did even before I became a "regular"). The cannolis are delicious. I love that they sell by-the-slice pizza (on weekdays), even though I much prefer their whole pies, because they're glorious circles of cheese and sauce. They do personal-sized pizzas on Saturdays. They have a couple of tables where you can sit and eat, though mainly while waiting for your order. The grocery-style section has recently expanded, with quite a few wine options (Fallen Angel is my current favorite). They sell a great salami. They've earned their fifth star because when my last version of this review said they should have Hawaiian, they added pineapple to their list of toppings! A quarter of the star is earned from simply having pineapple, the other three-quarters is for being so responsive to reviews!

  • NM B.

Just finished the smaller Prosciutto, Mozzarella and Roasted Red Pepper sandwich - it's grilled/toasted with a bit of oil, vinegar and oregano - delicious. The place is small, but pretty quick and the staff was patience and full of answers and explanations to my questions. As someone who's worked in the area for a bit now and tasted the old and the new, this is by far a superior sandwich choice in the area. (And I didn't even get a Lavaza coffee, boyland cane soda or yummy looking dessert. Worth the walk, seriously, it is :)

  • Tony F.

We got some food here after checking in to a nearby hotel. The prices seem very high....$9 for 10" pizza and $15 for 16" and $10 for a 12" sub. Toppings are extra at $1 a piece. So after paying $40 for 2 pizzas and a sub I'd say I've definitely had better. The pizza was super thin and greasy with not a lot of flavor. The toppings seemed like an afterthought and appeared like they weren't baked in together but added when it was almost done. The cheese steak was mediocre at best with its overly sweet peppers. Honestly, I just don't think this place is worth the money...we should've just ordered some Papa Johns.....

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza
