New China Taste Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

    From all the reviews, I was expecting a lot more. This is just a carry-out spot with a cookie-cutter Chinese menu that could be from any one of a bazillion carry-outs. That said, though, they got me in and out in 10 minutes and the General's chicken was piping hot. Be aware that the lunch special comes with a can of soda or a bottle of water. They aren't going to remind you, so pay attention and help yourself. Also, it would be awesome if they had brown rice here, but alas, they do not. So, yeah... not much to look at, but it's good Chinese to eat... somewhere else.

    I recently returned after four years in central america. While abroad, I crave only one Chinese dish... General Tso's chicken. The only time I don't order it is when the restaurant I visit is dumb enough to not have it on their menu. So when I recently moved to the Jefferson Manor neighborhood of Alexandria, I was cautiously optimistic of having a Chinese take-out joint within a couple of blocks of our house. I could finish my review right here and now by saying just this... I'm pretty sure there are a thousand places in the U.S. I'd rather retire, but the GT's chicken here seriously gives me reason to reconsider! It's THAT GOOD!!! The chef's sauce is for me a perfect sweet/sour/heat combo, and the chicken is perfectly breaded. And catch this... you actually GET chicken; big juicy chunks of it, not some tiny dried out strip with a huge chunk of mushy batter around it. I've been to so many places where the chicken to batter percentage is about 30/70. Here it's at least the exact opposite and probably closer to 80/20! This dish is extremely consistent, which tells me that there's discipline, love, and caring involved. So even though I will probably never order any other thing they offer, I have full faith that their other offerings warrant the same praise because you can tell they are dedicated to putting out great food. Last thing. I'm in utter shock at the cost of food now that I'm back on home soil. Whatever happened to lunch being affordable!! Without thinking the other day I ordered a three piece chicken meal with a drink at KFC and it was a few pennies shy of $10. WTH?!! The GT's chicken, with a can soda, is $7.50 as a lunch special, and it would actually feed two. THIS IS THE BEST FOOD VALUE I'VE FOUND IN ALEXANDRIA! :-) Thank you New China Taste for getting it right and at a reasonable price. Love you guys!

    I read the reviews before I ordered. I was excited to try it since they have good reviews. They delivered right on my doorstep... Since, I live in a high rise, I thought I would have to go down stairs to pick it up. I greatly appreciate that since I am on crutches at the moment.... For that, I want to give them five stars. BUT, the food itself is not that impressive. I ordered sesame chicken. It tastes like General Tso's to me. I am of Asian descent and have traveled quite a bit, including China. With that being said-- their food is mediocre. Also, their website from the Yelp app pulls up, they require $35 for a minimum order for delivery. When I called, they informed me it was only $12.

    I ordered from here really hoping that I wouldn't hate it. SO many of the chinese places around here are really awful. I was so glad to find out that this place will become my go to! I ordered the General Tso's and it was warm and delicious! The portion was really big too, and I ordered the lunch combo. I also had an order of steamed dumplings. The meat inside was tender and flavorful and the sauce has a lot of "personality" in the best way possible. The only thing I would say is that the dumplings were a little mushy by the time they got to me, so next time I will try them fried. I will order again!

    My husband and I are in the process of moving to the area, we stopped in last night after a very long day of painting and cleaning the new house, our order was ready in 10 minutes, by the time we got back to dc the food was still hot, we were thankful for all of this. We both agree it was the best Chinese food we've ever had. The steamed dumplings had seasoned meat and an intense garlic soy sauce for dipping, he said they were the best dumplings he's ever had. The general tso chicken was white meat and flavorful. The pork fried rice had awesome chunks of pork in it and not all fatty pieces like some restaurants use. The chicken and string beans are awesome. The egg rolls were spot on. I never realized how bad the quality of Chinese food is in almost every area I've been. This was great! We're so glad the food we are finding meets and exceeds our standards!!

    Food is great. I've done take out here several times. I think it would kill them to smile.mthey should be happy I'm giving them money. Be happy to be alive at least

    Super fast service and food was hot!!! We have been on a quest to find the best Chinese take out! This is the number one so far! We have one more to try (after a year of searching...I'm tired...LOL). We ordered some chicken fried rice and chicken lo mein. The hubs didn't really care for the lo mein but I thought it was good. We are from the Midwest so we requested our items be "extra dark" and they did just that. Great job!

    New China Taste is a good, quick Chinese take-out establishment. Since moving to Alexandria, we have probably gotten take-out from here 6 times. The food is pretty good for take-out Chinese. I call ahead and then drive over. They always have the food waiting, which is a testament to their speed, since I live about 5 minutes away.

    As far as takeout goes, this place rules above all others, for they always manage to bring my roasted pork and snow peas right to my doorstep before finish saying "Mahjong!" Yeah, it is kind of like that, a flat out food win for one and all. I am completely addicted to this pork and snow peas dish; the pork is so succulent, so flavorful that I often feel it goes beyond a simple Chinese takeout order. Its snow peas also add just the right amount of crispy texture as they crunch and snap in your mouth; so many places overcook their snow peas until they are limp and mushy, but not New China taste. And while we are at it, can we talk about something in Chinese takeout which has become rare as a unicorn, the egg roll? No, I don't I'm not talking about that sad imposter known as the spring roll, a vile creation that is often passed off as an egg roll, but is no closer to it than a plastic flower is to a rose. New China Taste's egg roll's are the real deal with thick breading that encases a juicy pork filling. Yum! Yum! Finally, the fried rice, a must with any order, is never dry and always overflowing with pork and shrimp goodness.,,Yes, they have chicken fried rice too, but it is not quite as tasty as the other flavors. However, whether you are ordering a pork, shrimp, or chicken dish from New China Taste, you cannot go wrong, for this place reigns above all other takeout joints. "Mahjong!"

    I ordered take-out from New China Taste a month or so ago. Their storefront is not at all impressive and if it didn't have such high ratings on Yelp, I may not have visited them in the first place because it seems to be a very tiny restaurant with no seating. It's really just a take-out type of place. The inside was not the cleanest, but this still did not dissuade me. The people in the restaurant seemed friendly and I placed my order for vegetable lo mein and waited just 10 minutes for it to be ready. While not the most amazing lo mein I've ever had, and though it was rather oily for my taste, it was still quite tasty and a very generous portion for around $10. Not a bad deal, though not my favorite. If I lived closer, however, I would order take-out from there more often.

    ~~~ THIS IS THE ONE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. ~~~ Click the MAP link and just go there now. Our first venture into China food here in the DC Burbs. THANK YOU YELP and fellow reviewers for steering me here! [Eddie Murphy voice: "You're so lovely, give YOURSELF a round of applause."] Ladies and gentlemen, THAT was some of the best General Tsao I have ever had the chance to bear down on. My wife reported the egg rolls were top-notch, and she is extremely picky. The fried rice was brown (not yellow dye) and PERFECT. I'd take a picture, but the chow is already in my belly... (what?) Unassuming place in a strip mall. Clean appearance and courteous service. Apparently they have an app you can use to order, although I just walked in, ordered, and walked out with hot goodness about 10-15 minutes later. Why are you still reading, hungry citizen? Now is the time for action, No more review distraction. Get in the car, It won't be far, For rib-scratchin' Asian satisfaction. (I just wrote that)
    This place is great. I love the food, it's always hot, fast, and satisfying. They've come as fast as 20 minutes before, and if they're busy it takes like 40 min tops which is still great. I like their general tso's, their egg rolls, their dumplings are really really good. I don't love their cheese won tons but that's the only thing that's been less than stellar so far. The delivery guys are always friendly, and you can tip online on your card before submitting your order which I really like. Reasonably priced, very fast, very tasty. Solid 5 stars.
    It was a Saturday evening around 7:30pm and we didn't feel like cooking. Ordering delivery Chinese food has become the wife and my fallback when we were feeling that way, so we decided to try out a different Chinese restaurant in our area that delivered. After checking out Yelp, we opted for New China Taste, which had received good reviews from fellow Yelpers. For basis of comparison with other delivery Chinese places we've used in the past, we placed our standard food order: Hot & Sour Soup ($1.75), String Bean Szechuan Style ($7.95), Tofu Szechuan Style ($7.95), and Crispy Beef ($11.95). Pros: - New China Taste's website offered online ordering and the ability to pay by credit card. - While not offering free delivery within its 4-mile delivery radius, the $1 delivery fee was a negligible charge in my opinion. - Extensive menu offering all of the americanized Chinese food standards you'd expect comparably priced with its peer competitors. - Food arrived within 30-40 minutes after placing our order. - Generous portion sizes given its price. Cons: - While it's not fair to classify the food as a complete failure, it was the weakest link. Despite the descriptors "hot & sour", "Szechuan", and "crispy", the food lacked any of the expected spicy, sour, or Szechuan pepper notes. As for the crispy beef, it was flavorful, but lacked any hint of crispiness, which may be attributable to it being over sauced, stir-fried with fresh vegetables, and/or delivered in a container that didn't allow steam to vent. Regardless, it was not crispy. In the end, compared to our other delivery Chinese experiences, New China Taste didn't live up to its lofty rating. Call it a very middling 2.75 stars.
    I don't usually have high expectations for Chinese food, but this place changed that. Food was delicious. Not over sauced, not burnt. I wish this place was next door. The food came neatly prepared in nice sectioned plasticware. AND IT WAS PACKED full. The lid almost popped off from so much food. After eating my Szechuan Chicken with broccoli and a side of rice, my tastebuds, stomach, and wallet were satisfied. Very fast service and friendly staff. Unfortunately, I did not get to taste the fortune cookie, however, I bet it would be just as good as the meal.
    Best Chinese takeaway in the area. Inexpensive prices, online ordering, and fantastic tasting dishes all prepared super quickly. Definitely my new go-to.
    I have`t ordered delivery in long time, after the last meal disaster I had from a local place, which pretty much scared me away from ordering anything even pizza. It is my first time ordering from this place and so far I am happy. I ordered online, simple...click, click, pay wait a bit and then eat LOL Food arrive rather quickly 35-40 mins, well packed. I ordered Curry Chicken and Beef with mushroom on the dinner combo. Pretty large size. I think I will have chinese leftovers for a few days now It came with chix.fried rice ( not sure why it was so dark brown) but the shrimp spring rolls are awesome, not the tough soggy full of cabbage ones. The beef with mushroom wasn`t bad after I poured off some of the oil. Food overall is salty and quite greasy, but I may order again some day
    It is decent takeout food for the area. I had the crispy beef. It was good for the first few bites, but since there is so much sugar/honey in the sauce, it was difficult to finish it all in one sitting. Overall, I would order the food here again. But I definitely would not go out of my way to try there stuff.
    Wow! I was at first impressed with the menu selection and size. So many things to choose from. I ordered online, a very thorough order system....be sure you go through ALL THE PAGES when you place your order. The order said it would be 45 to 60 minutes in coming...it was more like 30...a very nice surprise. The food arrived nicely packaged and complete. Everything tasted great...crispy beef, egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, steamed dumplings...all very good. All of this compared from my 'old' Chinese delivery place (see my review of the last straw with that downhill slide) and this place wins hands down. It was further away and showed up sooner...and was terrific. I will be definitely be ordering from them again. If you are wanting to try a new place....put these folks on your list.
    Food was really good. I'm in love with the General Tso's chicken. It was extremely juicy and tender. Too many times I've had Chinese food where the chicken was really hard and dry. But this one wasn't. I gave 4 stars only because my favorite food from Chinese restaurants are the crab rangoons which weren't that good here. They tasted almost like straight cream cheese which was really upsetting. Still ate them all though because I simply can't resist. Overall really good place with really good customer service!! Definitely at the top of my list for Chinese restaurants now. ....side note. When I was eating this really good tender juicy chicken my tooth broke. Not the foods fault but now no matter how hard I try I'll never be able to forget the food I had here. Lmao
    We get carry out from here once a week. It's good. They have very good moo shi pork, egg rolls and dumplings. Pretty much always order the same thing. Last week I ordered egg drop soup but they accidentally gave me won ton soup. It was ok. The won tons were excellent but the broth was just ok. Still, for a neighborhood carry out place I really like it. Not as good as House of Dynasty but House of Dynasty doesn't deliver.
    I'm new to the area, so finding a go-to Chinese delivery restaurant is pretty high on my priority list right now. I decided to try this place because of all the good reviews. The delivery came within the estimated time frame. Things were off to a great start! Unfortunately, there were a couple issues with the order. First, I ordered a dinner combo with white rice. Instead, it came with chicken fried rice. Usually I wouldn't mind this; however, I had ordered a chicken dish... Sesame chicken with chicken fried rice is a bit redundant for my taste. My husband's order did not come with white rice at all although it clearly states on the menu "with white rice." (Did this place run out of white rice that day?) At this point, we were already too hungry to bother calling and correcting the order. The spring roll that came with my combo dinner was delicious, but heads up to those with seafood allergies -- there's shrimp in it! There's no indication of this on the menu. While I appreciate the shrimp, I'm sure my sister--who is scarily allergic to shellfish--would prefer a warning. I'm still trying to find a place around here that serves legitimate crab rangoons. I haven't found a Chinese restaurant in the MD/VA area where crab is discernible in the crab rangoons. My search continues. Overall, the food was fine, but for a 4-star rated restaurant, I guess I expected more of a WOW factor. Would I order from here again? Yes. But not before I've tried a few more Chinese delivery joints to scope the area out more.
    I had the combination fried rice and the hot and sour soup. I asked for the fried rice to be spicy and it was surprisingly and delightfully the right amount of spicy (to me, this means I didn't need to add Tabasco on it). The rice was flavorful and the meat tasted like real meat. The soup was also good but nothing to write home about. Overall, this was one of the best and more satisfying Chinese take-out places I've been to.
    I carry my own soy sauce preservative free...The smell in the Chinese restaurant gave me. Mild asthma attack... i suffered...i m allergic to Chinese spices...even the smell...so i c an only eat such free plain steam meats rice..no veg allowed ... and the meat plump when steamed..delicious
    Standard chinese food, no different than anywhere else around DC. Would have given them 3 stars, but I've ordered from them twice for delivery and despite a 25% tip being added to the order (in advance), the delivery driver has hassled me twice about coming up to my floor and deliver to my door. I live in a highrise that has a dialpad to get into the building. All you have to to is scroll to the unit number, press call and I can open the door remotely. Both times the delivery driver has rudely exclaimed "Does not work!" when calling my personal cell phone. Both times I've said, "It absolutely does work" and then he backs down and actually uses it. Basically, he's lazy and does not want to waste the time coming to my floor. I've even included delivery instructions that explain how to use the damn system. For this reason, I will refuse to use this company ever again.
    Solid delivery and the only chinese I've ordered since moving to my new place. I see no reason to try anything else, so far. Here is what I've ordered.... General Tso - yum Kung Pow - da bomb Beef and Onions - tender and delicious Chicken and green beans - yum Shrimp Toast - surpisingly fantastic because this isn't usually my thing Egg drop soup - a-ok Nothing has ever been bad and I enjoy their lunch combos/specials. Have only ever ordered delivery, and it has always been prompt and friendly. No complaints. Ordering online is a piece of cake. I can't help but wonder if this place isn't somehow related to the one in Fairfax because their websites are identical and my profile was already there..... If that is the case, pay attention Fairfax! These guys are doing it better!!
    Decided to try this place while in town based on the great reviews and they didn't disappoint! Delivery to my hotel was quick, food was hot and delicious. I ordered the chicken w/garlic sauce and the chicken lo mein. I have to say the Lo Mein was some of the best I've had....really, really yummy! Overall, a great experience.
    As far as Chinese take-out restaurants go, this is the best I've had. Always top quality food; piping hot; and prepared and delivered shockingly fast. Their fried rice, steamed dumplings, and egg rolls are particularly stand-out items. We couldn't ask for a more convenient, tastier Chinese take-out place.
    The first time, the delivery was supposed to take 35-40 minutes, and the food arrived over an hour after delivery. We ordered the combination spring rolls, lo mein (beef and shrimp) and the Green Pepper Steak. The steak was good quality meat; however, the shrimp was pastey. I was like is this shrimp or brain? Spring rolls were good and the Green Pepper steak was pretty tasty. The second time, the order came in about 15-20 minutes after I called. The food was still hot. I was so confused when I heard a knock at the door because I most certainly was expecting for another long wait. (Maybe they read these reviews.) We ordered fried dumplings, beef with broccoli, and General Tso's shrimp. I'm glad that I have a short memory about how much I hated the shrimp the first time. It was delicious! The pork fried rice is off the hook. I think I did the Skyrim Shuffle. (Twirl, honey. Twirl.) I was sad when it was finished. I want to have it every time I order from there. Looking forward to the next time I have a Chinese food craving.
    Been here a couple of times. Food is generally nice, done quickly and consistently done well. I really like their Egg Food young and they are the only place that I have seen do a lobster egg foo young. Not overly greasy and the gravy is pretty standard.
  • Jay S.
    I'm not a fan of their General Tso's. The pieces were good sizes but they were quite soggy. I picked up the food on time and I don't like far away, yet the pieces were as soggy as you would find in a typical chinese buffet. It makes me wonder when it was cooked. There was a ton of sauce and maybe contributed to the sogginess. I most likely won't be ordering from here again.
  • Nico W.
    First time order and very happy! Not only one of the fastest delivery times ever (under 20 minutes), but the food was surprisingly hot for delivery! The crispy beef was very flavorful, but like others have noted, not very crispy due to an abundance of sauce. Yet, overall happy with the food, so I can recommend the joint.
    A great place for carryout/delivery if you have a hankering for fast, decent quality Chinese cuisine. New China Taste serves a wide variety of amply portioned dishes, including Singapore noodles (which many Chinese restaurants don't have). They also have a delicious tofu and mixed vegetable entree that we enjoy. Every time we're called for delivery, they've arrived quickly and our orders are always correct. Note that New China Taste does not have a dining room.
    I wish my review was based off of the food, but unfortunately it is about their severe lack of customer service. If that is a factor for you when dining out or ordering food, DO NOT waste your time with them. I recently called to place an order for delivery and after giving them my address I was told that they don't deliver to my residence. Normally not a big deal, but seeing as though the menu had been delivered to my address and in my mailbox, I found that hard to believe! After being placed on hold I was then told that they would take my order this time, but that I was wrong about them delivering it to my mailbox. Of course I quickly let the lady on the phone know that I had no reason to lie and I didn't find it appropriate for her to essentially be calling me a liar. Even after that, I still actually wanted to give these crazies the benefit of the doubt, and by this point I was chalking it up to it just possibly being a language barrier and her not intending to call me a liar. But that went right out the window after the lady then said to me "whatever, what do you want to order". Oh she knew common vernacular just fine, in conjunction with some attitude. It's sad because not only am I having to write this just based on their customer service, but despite the back and forth I still had not given her an attitude and yet just stated facts. Why they are so disrespectful lack basic customer service skills at 2p in the afternoon I don't know, but they won't have to worry about this address calling them again.
    I picked this place because of the excellent Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed. I ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp, spring rolls, and crab ragoon. I absolutely loved everything except the crab ragoon. The food came quickly. It was fresh, bursting with flavor, hot, and awesome! They also gave generous portions. I could have easily shared with someone else. I'm snowed in, and just ordered again. I can't wait!
I also had shrimp fried rice. my friend had the chicken lo mein an thought it was great!! Will definitely be ordering here again when visiting!
    This place really surprised me. They deliver to my apartment and take online orders, so I just ordered from there based on that (risky, I know). The pork fried rice was some of the best I've ever had. The crab rangoons weren't all that great, but the egg rolls were really yummy.
    When I got to the door to pay the delivery person, he held the screen door open wide, despite the fact that it was clear I had dogs inside. I asked him to close the screen door and he would not. As my dog slipped past him, I asked him to grab my dog. He did not. Then I said, "you just let my dog out of the house!" and he grabbed his money, got in his car and nearly hit my dog while driving off. When I called the restaurant to complain, the manager told me, unapologetically, to call the police. I will never order from this restaurant again. I have never had a delivery person stand in my doorway with the screen door open, watch me struggle as I try to grab a dog on the way out and then leave my house in the manner he did. And for the manager to just brush it off...incredible!
    Great experience overall... I ordered online for pickup and was initially skeptical, but it turned out great. My food was ready when I arrived with everything I needed already in the bag. Very efficient operation it seemed and plenty of people were going in and out, which is a good sign. The egg rolls were perfect, the shrimp lo mein was great as well, which leaves me to believe that all of their lo mein options would be delicious. Got the General Tso's Chicken - I wasn't overly impressed, but also wasn't disappointed , if you know what I mean. I will definitely go back when I am in the area!
    Great little place with cheap, fast and yummy Chinese food. We got the Triple Delight and Chicken Lo Mein and both were really good, and we had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. We carried out but we will definitely be ordering delivery from them soon!
    Good Chinese is hard to find, especially when you are roaming a strange land. While me and the boo were on vacation, I researched some good places by the hotel. This place had one of the best ratings on here and I trust my fellow Yelpers. The food came pretty quick but since I knew the food was coming I just left the chain lock open for the door. The delivery guy didn't knock, he was letting himself in! Good thing I was dressed because if it wasn't that would have been a very awkward moment between us. I thought the food was hella expensive, about 35 bucks for 2 orders of rice, General Tso's chicken and shrimp. I did ask for combination plates but I don't know if he just didn't understand me or it's just different in Virginia. The General Tso's Shrimp was tasty but mushy and not crispy at all. The rice was delicious and full of flavor. Overall it was some slamming Chinese food. But I do feel kinda weird and cheap that I was expecting some eggs rolls or a free soda. Maybe in NYC we just expect Chinese to be really cheap.
    Usually go to magic wok in belleview for years but this place is just as good. Slightly more expensive but overall the quality is just as good. They are right on time for quick takeout or delivery as well. Nothing unique about the menu as far as Chinese takeout places so they have everything you are looking for. The food is pretty fresh and they don't skimp on the sizes or variety of veggies and other items in the various dishes. Nothing overwhelmingly special but quick fast and satisfying. Definitely what I'm looking for in a Chinese takeout spot.
    Finally good Chinese food!! I ordered shrimp fried rice egg rolls and sesame chicken everything was great. Delivery service was pretty quick and wasn't to expensive. Think I found my go to Chinese place.
  • Becky G.
    I was craving Chinese food last Tuesday night (2/4/14) so I decided to give this place a try. I had high hopes that this will be my go to place for chinese food due to high ratings here, but sadly it won't be. I ordered the hunan beef, general tso's chicken, shrimp fried rice and beef lomein. I was gonna rate it 2.5 stars but because they put a lot of shrimp in the fried rice and beef in the other 2 dishes, I had to give this place another star (so 3.5 stars). The beef was also very tender and good quality compared to the beef used in Lomein at Four Seasons cafe in Kingstowne. Although their lomein at Four Seasons tastes better. So, I've figured if I want General Tso's chicken I'll go to Szechuan delight (the best I've tried in the area but their lomein and fried rice aren't good at all), for lomein I'll go to Four Seasons (tastes good but I wish they'd use better quality meat and add more of it) and for fried rice I'll come here. To make my life easier, maybe I'll just go to Panda express.
    Finally! A good delivery/take-out Chinese restaurant in this area! This is the best my husband and I have had since moving to VA 7 years ago. He had the General Tso's and I had the Kung Pao two ways (shrimp and chicken) and both were reeeeally good. The pricing is in line with other chinese food places, but SO much better than any other take out place we've been to. I'm glad I listened to the other reviewers and tried this place out, as it will be our go-to Chinese take out place from this point on!
    I ordered chicken wings and fried rice for delivery. My friend ordered shrimp tempura I think. He enjoyed his meal, but my meal wasn't good. The rice was too brown and greasy. The chicken was overcooked (dry) and bland. It seemed to take forever for them to deliver. I won't order from here again.
    I can't comment on anything except the Chicken Fried Rice but considering Chicken Fried Rice is usually a Chinese takeout/delivery staple I don't have high hopes for anything else on the menu. The rice was burnt and the vegetables were hard. The chicken was decent but nothing spectacular and for whatever reason there were no fried egg pieces (my favorite part). Overall, not a good experience. Will not order from here again.
    Ordered dinner takeout and everything but the standard appetizers was downright awful. I ate lunch here 3 times and was happy with the food. Maybe the day shift chef is much better.
    Favorite Chinese food place! They deliver within 45 mins. And pickup is less than 15 mins.
    This place is awesome! I have eaten here at least 10 times in two months. My brother and I use to carry out until one day I called to see if they delivered to my place. I was shocked with they said YES. I live in pretty far away I am out of their "delivery range." Both times I ordered delivery they arrived in less than 40 minutes. Considering that other places close by take that long it says a lot about their rapid service. My favorite dishes are shrimp fried rice, shrimp lo mein, general's chicken, and chicken with broccoli. If you're on public transportation the closest station is Huntington, you exit on the the North Kings Highway exit. Its just across the street in the little strip mall.
    HUGE MENU - tons of options for carnivores and herbivores! HEALTHY OPTIONS - tasty delivery w/o the guilt! DELICIOUS FOOD - never greasy, never disappointing! FRIENDLY & FAST - delivery has always arrived before the estimated time! UNBELIEVABLE PRICES - glad the large portions come in durable containers, perfect for lunch the next day! New China Taste is just all around quality, once you order you'll never go anywhere else! I'm embarrassed to think how much more I've paid elsewhere for significantly less quality food!
    Actually just placed another order. Effing love this place, definitely the best that delivers to 22303. Been looking for some crispy beef and this is the only place that has it...and they do it right. Not to mention their egg foo young's gravy, perfect thickness and doesn't over power the foo young. Service is phenomenal and I can count on their delivery to be 10 minutes earlier than they estimate...so that means I'm probably getting a door knock in the next 15 minutes.
    Big fan of this take out. We have been going for years and still happy. The crispy beef is awesome. Kung pao chicken amazing. Dumplings yummy. I highly recommend and with so many places to choose this is the best.
    Came here once. I ordered beef with brocolli and cold sesame noodles. The cold sesame noodles were inedible. The beef with brocolli was good
    Wow...a nearly perfect four point five star rating? A lotta love from the locals for New China Taste! Enough love that it prompted me to travel beyond some of my local reliable joints to give it a try. I'm going to have to reel this one back into our galaxy and remind folks that this is still your standard Chinese take-out. The food is fine, but nothing to go out of your way for. Like others mentioned, unless you're going to share the table with the little girl working on her coloring book, it's strickly take-out only.
    Great Food. My new favorite. Love the crispy beef.
    This place is a takeout/delivery only joint, which pretty much makes it perfect. Going "out to dinner" for Chinese food is like hooking up with the last person in a bar at 1:55am: it seems like a good idea, but you never talk about it to your friends afterwards. This place has pretty much the standard Chinese food options. And by Chinese food, I mean crappy Americanized versions of Chinese food. And by crappy American Chinese food, I mean the best kind of Chinese food. Everything is tasty, delicious, and always delivered hot. But the best part about this place is the time from placing the order to the delivery person being at your front door. We've ordered from here at least a half dozen times (I'm not fat, I'm big boned), and with one exception, the food was there in under 15 minutes. The one exception is when it took 25 minutes. The horror. There were times when we were driving home and said, "Let's get Chinese," and then said, "We'd better wait to order. We're 20 minutes away from home, and the food will probably beat us there." Awesome food. Awesome service. Do it.
    Typical Chinese-American Food. Nothing really that makes it stick out, however the service is fast and the portions are a good size. I have only ordered the General Tso and the Veggie Fried Rice. I might have to adjust the starts once I try the Singapore Noodles I've seen mentioned on other reviews. Update - Tried the Singapore Noodles and gotta say that they are great, good spice to it. However, the beef chow-fun is 2 stars at best (too much sauce and its doesnt have that characteristic smokeyness, and the beef is not that great) so the rating will average to 3 stars.
    After reading Yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a try. I haven't ordered Chinese food for a while and suddenly had a craving. Contrary to the 30-to-60-minutes delivery time on their website, I got my order 20-25 minutes after I had placed it. The food was delicious, the portions were big for the price, and the vegetables in my Steamed Shrimp with Vegetables were steamed correctly and brightly colored. I will be ordering from this place again in the future.
    I like this place. It's walking distance from my house and you can place the order right online for the time you want to pick it up. I think it's a reasonable price and they give you a good amount of food. I usually get the orange chicken dinner special. I just wish it had a little more of a kick to it. Maybe next time I'll put that in the special notes section. I also think the spring roll you get with it is super good. I walked in right at 630 (the time I wanted to pick it up) and he was literally walking out of the back with it. Quick and easy pick up.
    Awesome food, super quick, and huge portions. My wife got the bed look e mein and I got the kung pao chicken. We've hit enough left for lunch tomorrow. I will absolutely go back if I ever have the chance.
    By far the best takeout in the Old Town Alexandria area (granted it's slightly outside Old Town). Not overly greasy and very tasty!
    For American-style Chinese food this place does it pretty damn well. It's not knock your socks off (depending on your Chinese food experiences) but I have never been disappointed. Food is always steaming hot.
    I like this place! Don't love it - but it's certainly worth it for a quality, delivery Chinese meal. For a great price, and a good wait (about 30 minute at an off-peak Sunday afternoon) we got Orange Chicken and General Tso's chicken. The latter of which was far superior, and gave me order-envy. Egg rolls were also good - and I highly recommend the Chicken Lo Mein with any meal. I never finish the starch of my meal (some stupid, self-loathing, get-slim idea...) but I couldn't stop eating this lo mein! TIP: don't order the Chef's special of any meal, just get an order of egg rolls, and for about the same price you get an extra egg roll and a bit more food. This is our new go-to Chinese Food delivery place.
    I have climbed highest mountains in Alexandria in search of good Chinese takeout. I have run through the streets and found others lacking in taste and price. Only to eat good Chinese food. I'm sorry that Bono still hasn't found what he's looking for, but I am glad I did and you too (U2...get it?) should be. Their menu has things you don't usually see, like asparagus crab meat soup and curried potatoes (which I haven't tried, but really want to). Even us picky vegetarians found plenty to eat. On top of that, their prices are so darn reasonable compared to the competition. I got the General Tso's Tofu. Now, I've had this dish probably a hundred times in my life as a veg who enjoys Chinese takeout, but never like this. I have kissed the honey lips of the sauce that is the right amount of tangy and sweet. Felt the healing in her tofu texture that is not too firm and not too soft, but just right. It burned my hands a little bit because it was delivered to us nice and hot. So I'm stuck with this burning desire to have more! Break the bonds of dull and pedestrian Chinese takeout and try this place. You won't be disappointed.
    After walking to California Tortilla, and finding the power out, the hubs and I decided to order Chinese. New China Taste may be an interesting name choice, but it turned out a winner. Ordering was simple, and the prices were great. Our food arrived about thirty minutes later, and was nice and hot. I'm going to skip right to the eggroll. This was the most delicious eggroll I've ever had! The flavors were ridiculously tasty. I had the sesame chicken with fried rice, and the chicken was a little more crispy than I like, but still good. It also came with broccoli. My husband had beef fried rice, and he said it was "okay." Maybe he should get something else next time! We will definitely order from here again.
    I definitely DO NOT give 5 Stars lightly, but after having just placed my 4th order with New China Taste, I assure you, you won't be disappointed. That is, unless you're finicky and stuck up when it comes to what tastes good. Anyway, I digress. EXCELLENT CHINESE FOOD! Beats every other place I've tried in the 22303 area code and the one place that I ate at in Chinatown (YUCK!!!). Fried rice is delicious and I DO recommend getting some even if you don't plan to eat it during your meal. It's great heated up and is indeed yummy! Egg Drop Soup is likewise delish! So are their crispy 'Hong Kong' style fried noodles. Which, by the way, is the authentic way to eat Chow Mein - Americans, vis-a-vis LaChoy(R) have bastardized the noodles into those you can get from a can - which also excellent, but strong on the celery (as it should be) and best served with lots of Soy Sauce. As someone has already mentioned, the Orange Chicken... O - M - G!!! I don't even like it and last time I ordered from NCT I tried my son's... O - M - G!!! Did I say, O - M - G? It really was excellent! If you want something a certain way, make sure to include a note with the item you order (Online Orders) or just make it known. They are accommodating, fast, and friendly. My order should be here soon. Cheers and Good Eats!!!
    Had our food delivered. It was very tasty, everything was still hot and the prices are reasonable. For a local Chinese place, fast delivery and easy to understand the person on the phone, very satisfied.
    This is the best delivery Chinese food in Alexandria that I have found. Some dishes are better than others, I would say my favorite dishes are the chicken fried rice, Szechwan chicken and the triple delight. Definitely a little greasy but plenty of flavor. It's handy that you can order online and friendly and fast service.
    Good food, fast service, and clean restaurant. I can't ask for more in a Chinese take out/delivery place. I ordered the bean curd Hunan style and veggie spring rolls. I am very pleased with the food I received. I will definitely be ordering from this place again!
    Yes! A fast and delicious Chinese place! We ordered at 5:33 and it was here at 5:46! The food was hot and delicious and $10 cheaper than what was advertised online. Definitely order!
    Just tried their Orange Chicken lunch special. For $6.95, it is a great amount of food and you get a soda too. The chicken was really good - not overly sweet like some orange chicken can be and also has a nice little spicy kick (like it should!). I also really like the texture of the chicken - it has just the right amount of crisp! The broccoli in the dish was super fresh as well and the fried rice was good too. I will be back!
    Best Chinese food in Alexandria, hands down! I've tried all the places that deliver to me and nothing compares to New China Taste. I need to try the fried rice, holding the soy sauce like the other Yelper mentioned. Good idea, as the only minuscule complaint I have is their dark, sodium-heavy fried rice (which is still good, just salty). But their meat is high quality, veggies taste fresh. They always deliver very fast and are very friendly too! Top notch. :)
  • Ron M.
    The food here was pretty good. 4 Stars - General Tso's Chicken 4 Stars - Chicken with Garlic Sauce (Without spiciness) 2 Stars - Shrimp Lo Mein The lo mein tasted like it was soft noodles that was stir fried with soy sauce and that's it. The shrimp was noticeably old. I would also have to agree with the other person who said that soy sauce on the side of the fried rice is better. There is already too much sodium in Chinese food :).
    Good Chinese delivery. I'm not going to say it's so amazing to go out of your way, but it's good food at very reasonable prices. If you live within delivery range of this restaurant, I highly suggest using it as your normal Chinese delivery place.
  • Mark S.
    Excellent Chinese food. We ordered the Bean Curd with Mushrooms, General Tso Chicken, Veggie Fried Rice and Egg Rolls off of the Dinner Menu. WOW! Everything was very good and you definitely get your monies worth. The Veggie Fried rice has 4 really generous servings and it had plenty of Fresh veggies. The only complaint would be the lack of spice in the General Tso chicken. If you like it spicy ask for it extra spicy. We will be ordering from this many times into the future.
    ok..............if you order fried rice and ask them to hold the soy sauce, you will actually get really awesome fried rice. great place to order freshly fried chicken wings. a little bit in the middle of nowhere but the service is always good.
    Great Find in the Valley. This popular place has the best orange chicken in the Valley. The curry chicken's a spicy dish but worth a try and the eggrolls are amazing. Prices are good and they have friendly servers.
    I go here so much, I should finally write a review. Let me make the disclaimer though that usually when I eat here I am starving so that might make a difference. Small place for take out and delivery only. If you walk in - in about 10 minutes you will have your food ready to go. Prices are about the norm for places around here. I've had the beef and broccoli, chicken and broccoli, broccoli w/ garlic sauce and sweet and sour chicken. All were good. I have also had the fries, which are good and you get quite a bit for your money. My only real complaint is about the hours. New China Taste closes too early.
  • H.R. N.
    It feels funny to review a Chinese take-out, but this is a better than average place. I order lunch from them at work and sometimes dinner, when I'm home. Wait, that sounds like I order from them all the time. I don't. I only eat Chinese food 3 times a year max--a self-imposed quota, thank you very much. But this is a high quality place, evidenced by their good food, fast turn around and hey they give you plastic food containers for your dish. You can re-use those things to save the environment from excess waste, too, since they're microwaveable!
    This is Hands down the Best Chinese Take Out/ Delivery Food in the DC Metro Area. Before I even moved into this area about 2 years ago. I drove around looking for an Apt and came across New China Taste. Since the First time I tried it, I have been hooked. The food is tasty and filling. The People that work there are very polite and always give me free stuff when I make a large order (over $20). Also, they received an Award for "Most Healthiest Chinese Take Out In DC/Metro Area). This place is conveniently right across the street from Huntington Metro. They also have a large parking lot! I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves Chinese Food!
    Finally... some decent Chinese in the 22310. I was so despondent with usual crap that you have to settle for around here that I quit Chinese altogether about a year ago. Baby, I'm back!! Crab Asparagus soup, orange chicken, steamed veggie dumplings all rock. A bit pricey but worth it. Enjoy
  • Debra T.
    This place is excellent and always reliable. Food is always freshly prepared and piping hot. Spring rolls are great and chicken and broccoli, kung pao chicken, lo mein, and general tso's are our stand-bys here. The friend dumplings are excellent as well. The cold sesame noodles were nothing special. Food is always ready in 15 min or less. This is a takeout only place. There is no place to sit and eat your food, so plan to grab it and go.
    Definitely some of the best Chinese in the area. Very quick delivery and reasonable prices. They even throw in a small order of Kimchi for free! (Yes I realize Kimchi is Korean, but that doesn't mean I don't like it)
Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
