They did it again. Another spectacular dining experience. Found their tasting menu online and had to go. Worth the very reasonable price for so many courses and so much great food. Recommend getting the ice cream bars dessert. Sinful!!! Will be back again when my business brings me this way. If you are local and not eating here when you want great food and a beautiful dining experience for the eyes and taste buds - you are missing out.

Food: Meh, at best. We went for brunch. The croissants were lovely and the "appetizer" that was brought out unexpectedly was tasty, but plated very poorly. A single teeny, tiny little meat pie on an empty plate 8 times its size? Our omelets were really just okay. I had the spinach and mushroom omelet which was grossly under stuffed. The hollandaise sauce was wonderful, which helped save the omelet from being sub-diner quality. The potatoes were so incredibly boring. Not crispy, not flavorful, pretty much just cubed potatoes. Even after I slathered them in hot sauce, they were boring. Coffee was diner quality coffee. I wish I could comment on the drinks or dessert, but by the time the drinks were delivered we had been sitting and waiting to see our server for 15 minutes. By then we were just ready for the check... which brings us to the service. Service: Wow. I mean, wow. So, we sat at the table and waited for about 10 minutes for water and to be greeted. I asked about a Mimosa, but it was 10 after 11a (our reservation was 11a, so see what I mean about waiting for 10 minutes?), so I was told, I'd have to wait till after 11:30. I have waited tables in Utah. And when this situation has come up in the past, I always offer to order the drink for the customer at that time, or offer to come back and check to see if they still want it. She did neither. I grabbed her after 11:30 and asked, again, for a Mimosa, and my mom ordered a Bloody Mary. It was at least 15 minutes before the drinks came. We never saw our server between when we asked for the drink and when the drinks came 15 minutes later. We were sitting at our table forks down, finished with our food, looking around, and no one came to ask if we'd like our plates cleared or boxed up, if we'd like dessert, more coffee, etc. Nothing. We saw the waitress when we ordered, when I grabbed her for a drink order, and after we told the person who came with the drinks that we just want the check. That's it. We were pretty clearly her only table outside, so we couldn't even flag her down when she was at a nearby table. Grounds/Ambiance: Outstanding. I mean, if it weren't for the grounds and the beautiful building and the peacocks, this would have been a 1 star review. It's really lovely. A truly unique experience in Utah. And the Valet parking only adds to it. Maybe dinner is good? Maybe lunch is? Would I give it another shot? Maybe. It certainly is pretty.

As you drive onto the grounds, you really feel that you are leaving Utah and entering a French estate. The grounds are beautiful and the building looks amazing against the mountainous backdrop. The interior does feel a bit contrived in that it feels built as a banquet hall. We found it odd that as you pull up for valet service, the first words we heard was that there is a 5 dollar fee for parking. Coming to a fine establishment, I would expect for the parking to be free, and tip the valet, so this seemed a bit tacky. As we were seated, a ticket was printed out to bring us to our table, which also felt a bit odd. Service was about par for the course. Bread came out far too late - right before our appetizers arrived. Wife ordered a Zinfandel, and the bar brought out a white zin, but we decided to go with it. My steak was overdone, and sent it back. The food was just below what we were expecting given its history, and the cost. Feels like a great place to have an event, but as for a fine dining dinner - not for us.

The scenery is beautiful! I give two stars for my two star meal. We went there from brunch this morning. I ordered the pork carnitas. It sounded good, roasted tomatoes, pulled pork, salsa, and potatoes. I assumed it would come with a tortilla of some sort due to the name, but it didn't. The pulled pork was tough, hard to pull apart for smaller bites. There was a smiggen of salsa, more sauce could have helped liven up the dish. I took my poached eggs off because I can't eat them. The biggest let down was how bland and tough the carnitas pork was. The potatoes were also meh. Maybe their other dishes are better.

Tucked away in a little castle next to the mountains, situated on 20 acres of land, La Caille is the most beautiful restaurant I've been to. Had a 7:30pm dinner reservation, and it may be a little difficult to find, but at night, the driveway is unmistakable as a long driveway is lined with lights leading up. Once you step into La Caille, you realize that this really is a magical, romantic place. Take a winding staircase up to the second floor where your table is waiting. Service itself was impeccable, and once you order, it is recommended that you explore the rest of the restaurant and you will be compelled to take pictures. We ordered the French Onion Soup, Free Range Peking Duck, Morgan Valley Rack of Lamb, and a Side of Truffled French Fries. Honestly, every dish was great. The French Onion had a complexity of flavor that was better than any other I've had. The duck and lamb were both cooked to perfection. And the Truffled French Fries were crispy and bursting with flavor with each bite. The only regret is eating too much bread in the beginning and not saving enough room for dessert. Even still, we were given macaroons straight from France to finish the meal. Soft and delicate, easily the best I've ever had. The only thing that could have been improved was that our wine and and fries were either very late or forgotten. Still, it's not enough for me to rate if 4 stars because despite the steep price tag of the meal, I feel dining at La Caille is more than a meal. Overall, I approached it as a memorable experience and La Caille definitely delivered. If you want to dazzle your date, make a reservation at La Caille. Anyone visiting or living in Utah has to experience it once in their lives.

I came to La Caille recently for a private event and was very pleased with how everything was set up. It was a very beautiful and elegant setting. The servers who came around with hors d'oeuvres were great at offering them during conversation breaks and provided good explanations of what they were serving. I enjoyed dinner as well, but the appetizers were the star of the night.

You should go here, realizing, that you are paying for the experience. We had a wonderful experience! Food was wonderful, wine, service, atmosphere. We will save our money, and be back, at our next special occasion.

It's a gorgeous place. Very romantic and spectacular ambiance!:) I took my wife there last night on 7/18/15 to celebrate our 12th Anniversary and she absolutely loved it. The service and attention was above and beyond. It's a place that if you're a Utah resident and you haven't visit La Caille Restaurant you don't know what you're missing! Definitely will return and most definitely will recommend. Thank you to all the staff and a big thumbs up to Management for creating Magic and giving my wife and I and unforgettable dinning experience.

I was surprised how slow this place was after we came back from our anniversary date night, it was just mind blowing!. I took my wife out there for our second anniversary dinner and she thought it was a fairy tale dinner! Little spendy for the food they offer but totally worth it for special occasion cause of the positives vibes and spectacular view! I was served out of date beer (devastator Doublebock) but their hospitality definitely won my heart

We picked La Caille for our wedding venue and we couldn't be happier with our decision. We were immediately assigned an event / sales manager, James, who saw to our every request and need. "No" was never an answer -- James and his team were accommodating, flexible and always friendly and professional. From our phone conversations and email exchanges, to the taste test (feast), to the ceremony rehearsal and the actual wedding, everything was top notch. Customer service at its finest. As for the property itself...wow. Simply put, there are very few places in the world as well kept and as beautiful as La Caille. Our guests, many of whom were from outside the state, and some very well traveled, were all blown away. In short, we can't say enough good things about it. Truly delightful experience and worth every penny.

I wasn't super impressed with anything but the grounds surrounding the restaurant and the tree-lined drive leading up to it. For the price, the food was disappointing, especially the beef tenderloin. It wasn't very good at all. Overcooked and tough and topped by a mound of bearnaise that looked like banana pudding. The scallops were superb though and made up a little for the bad steak. Service was not top notch either.

This is very prestigious place. We had a group from work meet here to enjoy dinner and they did not disappoint. First off if it's snowing plan on having a vehicle that has good tires or 4 wheel drive. It's like a different world when you pass though the gates. The food was very well prepared. We had the seafood appetizer, the escargot, and the scallops. All were nice but the best was the scallops. Course two I had the duck consume, while my wife had the pear salad. Both were good but I do wish I had ordered the lobster bisque. Course three I ordered the buffalo and my wife the Rosemary chicken. Both were excellent perfectly cooked and layered with flavor. Going back I would lean toward the chicken. It was delicious. Finally I ordered the cookies and milk. As expected it was cookies and a glass of cold milk. All in all a great night was had. Food was great but the company even better!

First the Pros- We went there for V- day this year, and I was so excited!!!!! Great Service!!! from the valet to the Sommelier, to the coat check gal....Top notch friendly service. -The grounds are breathtaking, we took a walk after dinner and it was so amazing to see the ponds, and gardens. Now the cons-Only really one, the food..... It was mediocre at best.. For what we paid I really expected something that would knock my socks off..... The "free oyster" looked about 3 days old, my beef entree was just plain, nothing special, and the deserts were some weird brown gelatin... Makes me sad we couldn't get into Tuscany... where you leave full, and really felt like you got your money's worth.. Worth going maybe for brunch?

Getting to this place is a little tricky. You'll pass it if you don't know what you're looking for. There is a sign in front of what looks like a walk way that says "pour les clients seulement". This means for guests only, and it's actually a driveway. When you get up to the restaurant everything is beautiful. The grounds have lots of green grass, trees, flowers, and ponds. Also there are ducks, geese, swans, and peacocks which are fun to watch. The food was the downfall to this place. The salad was good, as well as the dinner rolls. For the main course I got chicken that comes with carrots, heirloom potatoes, and asparagus. The chicken was moist but lacked flavor. The vegetables were good, and tasted good with the chicken au jus. My friend got the butternut squash raviolis with mushrooms. There were 3 raviolis and about half of a mushroom. Needless to say my friend wasn't too pleased. We were all still hungry after the main course. We also all got crème brulee. I thought it was good, but the sugar on top was a little well done for me. Summary: great atmosphere, less than great food.

It has been years since I made my way up here. I remember it being super fancy dinner place. This time I came for a friend's wedding. And it was just a great experience all around. From just walking around and enjoying the grounds to the wedding service and dinner after. The staff were all super friendly and eager to help with anything they could. As we were all waiting for dinner to be served. They had the servers walking around with trays of appetizers. All which were great and had great presentations. For dinner we had the trout which I was super impressed with. I am usually not a trout guy because I feel it's to fishy tasting. But this was fantastic from the texture to the taste. And if you are a chocolate lover? Which I am not but the lava cake was super rich and tasty. Their homemade whip cream was great as well. I think I will make my way up here for Sunday brunch sometime soon.

My family usually visits La Caille once a year. They have made some changes to their menu and we were very impressed with our last visit! The food was presented beautifully and our waiter was great. But most importantly, the food was delicious. The croissants (which are unlimited!) are my favorite. They drizzle a caramel sauce on them and they are to die for. As for the entrees, my favorite was the Filet Mignon and Eggs Benedict. I ordered the filet medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Everything that my family ordered was amazing. I can't wait to go back next year!!! Food 5/5 Atmosphere 5/5 (this place is breathtaking) Service 5/5 Price 2/5 (We can only afford to go here once a year =/)

Updated Review: We brought our experience to the owner of La Caille. He was very professional. He addressed our concerns, listened with a sympathetic ear, and assured us he would work with his staff to make future changes. He gave us a generous refund and expressed that while he realized he couldn't fix the day, he hoped the refund would make up for the shortcomings. We greatly appreciated him taking the time out of his busy schedule to meet with us.

La Caille has been a Mother's Day tradition of ours for 8 years now. It's no secret the prices are high but that defines the restaurant. The decor and ambiance is what sells this place. It's an old world Tuscan theme. The flowers are meticulously groomed and manicured to perfection. Picture ops everywhere inside and out. The food is mediocre maybe because for Mother's Day it's always pre made and you get what the house already distinguishes as the 3 or 4 corse for the brunch. We keep coming back more for tradition and the atmosphere.

I am so surprised at the poor reviews for this restaurant. The ambience was spectacular. The service was top notch. And the food was delicious. I had the cheese sampler and the house salad. The cheese was extremely creamy and salty and just yummy. The house salad was the best house salad I have ever had with fresh vegetables picked from the garden. My french fries and vegetables were cooked perfectly as well as the steak I had. The steak was a little salty for my taste. But that is about the worst complaint I can make about our experience. My fiance had the lobster appetizer and a biscuit and she loved them. She tried the lamb but this was her first time having it. She did not like the taste of lamb. It was not that they did not cook it correctly she just didn't like the flavor of the lamb. They let her pick another dish and she got chicken and she loved it. If you want to go to the most romantic restaurant in Utah then this is the place.

Bottom line: great fancy-pants restaurant, didn't feel like it was quite worth all that $$$ we dished out. This place is where the rich & famous hang out. Beautiful long cobblestone drive up to the restaurant, which is cozy and nicely decorated if not a bit old feeling. The waitresses (I don't say servers because I don't think they anyone wait tables there who doesn't wear a busty French outfit) were kind and attentive. There were a few that waited on us, which made for prompt service but did cause a bit of confusion. On to the food: They start you off with bread. French bread and butter, and some other type of thin bread that's between a soggy cracker and stale naan. They then brought out an appetizer "compliments of the chef" that looked like a mini sugar cone with raspberry sorbet, but was a sesame cone with beet & goat cheese puree. Cool idea! The goat flavor was really strong - too much for me. The lobster bisque was very good and extremely rich. I think it's 1 part butter to 2 parts lobster bisque - very rich & delicious. The pork belly appetizer: I though the corned beef that came with it was excellent - I could've eaten a whole plate of it. The pork was really "porky" tasting, which might be what the high society likes (?) but I don't like my pork tasting porky any more than I like fishy tasting fish. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend that one - it wasn't near as good as the kurobuta pork belly I've had before. For entree, my date got the duck, which she liked. I got the lamb, which was good but not the best I've had. I don't really have that much to say about it. It was a nice evening all around, and we enjoyed living the posh lifestyle so we could check this one off our bucket list. For the money though, there are a number of other restaurants I'd rather eat 4 meals at than come back here. Glad I went once, but I probably won't be coming back.

I have been to La Caille many times over the years both professionally and personally. Professionally as a member of the hospitality community I have in the past recommended the restaurant to 100s of people through our relationships with meeting/event planners. I personally conducted many site inspections and for many years my recommendations were met by agreement with planners who used the restaurant. No more. They were always slightly overpriced for the quality and quantity of food but the service generally good and the grounds obviously very unique. My daughter had an event scheduled this evening and I as I will explain was beyond disappointed. To start the evening I arrived after my wife and daughter and took two cars as a result of a scheduling conflict. Upon entering the grounds the normal self-park lot was coned off. Hadn't seen that before but its dark and maybe they just resurfaced the lot. When I pulled up to the Valet I inquired as to why there was no self park tonight and I was greeted with lie #1. Lie #1. Head valet tells me he has worked there 5 years and it has always been that way. Umm, yeah but no. I asked to speak to a manager to tell him I didn't appreciate forced valet parking. I often use valets and I tip well when I do but on a cold night and amongst many people I prefer the time savings by getting my own vehicle. I also appreciate simply having a choice. Even luxury hotels give you the option of valet or self park. Lie #2 told by Todd the General Manager it wasn't he who was charging the fee but yet the valet service they contracted and he couldn't speak to lie #1 because the head valet wasn't his employee. Technically perhaps true but at best misleading. Lie #3 We don't allow self-park any longer due to insurance regulations. As a GM it is never good to lie to people, especially people that have brought you 100s of people to and through your restaurant. Lie #4 After the other lies didn't seem to work his story now became that I needed to address my complaint with the teacher from school as it was she who demanded valet only parking. The more you treat people with such unprofessionalism and disdain the more likely the are to never return and for certain people are more likely to stop recommending your restaurant. If Todd is the best La Caille has for management then the future for repeat meeting planning business is dim. If he can't solve a simple issue addressing forced valet parking how is he going to address a service failure? By lying? A simple I appreciate your feedback and I will talk to the owners regarding your comments and I would have been effectively placated. Onto the food. It was a set menu. A very limited set menu and they still had problems bringing food out in a timely manner to the tables. If you can't get a very simple fixed menu correct how do you expect a planner to believe you can do better for them? The escargot was delicious. The sorbet dished with a melon ball small spoon. The salad sparse on croutons, cheese and sported a mediocre dressing. Bread was sparse and at one time a basket for 8 diners at a table contained but one roll. The chicken entree was meh. Not bad but as keeping with La Caille tradition very small. The dessert was probably the most generous portioned course but even then the crepe had obviously been pre-frozen with the ice cream and the chocolate sauce was overly sparse. The wait staff overall did an ok job but had trouble keeping waters filled on the table. Finally, and this may seem petty but the school picked La Caille to teach children proper manners and dining etiquette. I've never been to an upscale restaurant that somehow is unable to purchase the correct silverware. Salad fork, dinner fork and dessert fork all the same size. When you have kids at the table asking what utensil they should start with I would generally tell them that you start from the outside in and that the salad fork is generally smaller than the dinner fork and the dessert fork generally smaller than either the salad or dinner fork. At La Caille I guess simplicity of one type of fork overrides the desire to correctly adorn the table.

We received a very nice letter from the Director of Operations apologizing for our poor experience at their restaurant. The message in the letter appeared to be sincere and we appreciated the gesture. The Director of Operations said they appreciated the candid review we posted on Yelp and they will endeavor to make changes to improve their service. If they can correct their issues so they meet the standard for a fine dining establishment it could be a fabulous place. We wish them the best but will keep the 1 star review posted.

I'm a foodie and I just moved to Utah. I was told that this restaurant was a must visit. A place where you go for celebrations, graduations, or life events. It reminded me of the Mansion in Dallas. I decided when we found out we were pregnant with our first we should go to celebrate. The food was so, so and nothing really stood out. Then at the end of the meal it was time for dessert. I asked the server "is your bananas fosters table side" and she side yes so I got really excited. Growing up on the Commanders Palace I know I'm spoiled, but based on the food I had been served that evening I knew I should ask. When I was told it was served table side I was ecstatic in thinking the night might end on a high note. I knew I was going to be disappointed when the server brought out a gravy boat, lit on fire, and quickly poured it on the ice cream. Let's just say the chef needs to be educated and maybe travel. The food was nothing I would go back for and the gravy boat still makes me laugh. I guess if the rating was based on humor I would have to give five stars!

The ambience is beautiful in the summer, great for party ... Good selection of wines. The service is great with many nice waiters to help what you need. The food is rather average in comparison to the price, so I don't really recommend ... I prefer other nicer/more-delicious restaurant like Cucina Toscana or Bambara (better food) for similar price.

I had such a wonderful birthday dinner here! Everything was spot on. The service, food, and ambiance were all amazing. The mushroom tartlet (1st), pear and venison salads (2nds),duck and scallop entrees(3rd), & banana foster dessert were bar none in flavor and preparation. My husband lived in France for two years and absolutely loved the food. It was really close to the food he feel in love with in Toulouse (Southern France). Their chefs deserve the prestige this place gets. Management was very personable when they stopped by to see how everything was. Bathrooms very nice. I Loved the outdoor fireplace, lights everywhere, & the French decor. We'll be coming back.

It was a really cool place, I loved the peacocks, the building, and all the grounds. It was beautiful. The food was good, but not great. I went for lunch, so maybe the dinners menu is better, but I was still impressed. They also have really nice bathrooms, which is a very valid way to judge restaurants.

Have been going here since the mid 70's. It went through a tough period a few years back. Quit going. When I heard that it was back to its former incredible self, went back, and was not disappointed. It was better than ever and that is saying a lot. Always considered La Caille one of the worlds' great restaurants. The new chef, Billy Sotelo, creates sensible, creative cuisine. Rarely know is the romantic cottage on the 20 acre grounds that you can book for an overnight stay

Me and a colleague hosted a dinner event for 20 people this past week on Oracle's behalf. They staff was attentive, patient, kind & flexible, including the valet parkers. Our clients ordered just about every appetizer, every salad and entree, plus dessert. We had the small private room upstairs- amazing grounds, setting, ambiance. Other Oracle colleagues utilize La Caille for client dinners & events. We will continue to patronize this place, they have been good to us. I highly recommend La Caille.

I recently had dinner at La Caille on a Sunday night and it was a really great experience. The grounds are beautiful and we saw a peacock in full bloom. The restaurant was practically empty. We had a very knowledgable and personable waitress (meg) and the service was excellent. We had a great bottle of wine to start as well as the shrimp and crab appetizer and the pork belly. The shrimp and crab were good and the pork belly was very good. It came with a poached egg, however that was not poached properly. They also provide a very nice bread basket with homemade butter. The butter was amazing and I would have dipped anything in there. For dinner we each had the rack of lamp, strip steak, sea bass, and bouillabaisse. The rack of lamb was very tender and flavorful, and was the strip steak. The steak also came with a mushroom and blue cheese bread pudding which was very good and different (savory bread pudding??). The sea bass was also thoroughly enjoyed. The bouillabaisse was actually rather underwhelming, but the broth was good. We were all too stuffed for dessert but got an order of beignets and a few creme brûlée for the road. Having since eaten those, I can say wow. Of course the beignets are delicious but the creme brûlée was amazing. Very creamy and sits in a chocolate crust. Highly recommend it. Overall it was very nice dining experience. Of course it is incredibly pricey.

A group of us went here last night for dinner. The place is unique but very dated, like the food. Food was mediocre at best. Halibut was overdone, French onion soup was average. However, service was excellent. We ate at shallow shaft the night before and the food was much better and slightly cheaper.

This is a tough one to review. The environment is wonderfully fancy and is perfect for special dinner occasions where you want to dress up and feel special. But the taste of the food is surprisingly poor considering the expense. I will continue to return on special occasions where the photo will go into a memory book, but I won't go there to get a tasty meal.

Not sure if it was the friends I was with or the atmosphere of the place or the service, but a wonderful time was had by all. The place is beautiful, as is the service. The food tasty, however the portions are a might too big and overwhelming. I also thought the scallops were a bit salty. We loved the special touch of the Chef visiting each tanle and chatting for a moment. Then he sent out a dessert sample of serveral choices. The dessert was OH MY GOD great! It was a great, relaxing evening in a beautiful setting. Loved it.

Been to La Caille twice. First time was for a company Christmas dinner. Food was excellent. We even got our own private room. The second time was for a drug rep dinner. Again food was good. Nice atmosphere both times. Clean bathrooms. Will be back.

Very disappointed. We live very close, and go once or twice a year. We realize that dinner in such a place is special, but only the valet and server were really good. Dad's trout was "ok, but his onion soup was way too sweet, mom's cod was 'very good" but wife's gnocchi was bland, mom in law's duck was leather, and my woefully undercooked $50 beef was a child's portion, and not the best quality of meat. A waste of money. Go for a peek at the grounds, a look at their Christmas lights, but save your money for a good restaurant. This isn't it. We will not return,

Unpending all my mistrust from my first visit years ago was an Incredible Valentines Meal in a dégagé part of the chateau. La Caille seems to have put some r & d into the dessert menu. The Valrhona Chocolate Budino was prepossessing.

This is not a place to go for haute cuisine. The food here is mediocre. I have never been blown away by anything I've eaten here. I've been been presented stale breads, overlooked fish, and bland coq au vin. That's not to say that the food is bad. It just doesn't stand out. What you do get out of La Caille is the feeling of being in a fairy tale. The grounds are beautiful and the restaurant is decorated brilliantly. This is the fun of coming here. If you are purely a foodie, skip this restaurant. For a good overall experience, give it a shot.

We went here a few nights ago. For two people, we each ordered a glass of wine, appetizer, and entree, no dessert, the cost was $180. We had a groupon so this helped. Observations - Servers while attentive, friendly, and professional, their attire was in the style of a cheesy French Bar Wench. A little too Disneyland for me. I began to worry that the theatrics in the attire and restaurant decor would imply that the food would be secondary. - We sat by the fireplace which was nice. We were not dressed nicely, a shame on our part. It was clear this is where people go for special occasions. - Appetizers were good and bad. We had ordered a lobster bisque which was delicious and my husband ordered the Escargot which tasted mushy and yucky. We sent it back to the kitchen, they made a new set and it was much better. They offered an amuse bouche that had duck in it. Not great, just ok. - Main course: two meat dishes, tenderloin and something else. They cooked it just right but I was already full by the time the main entree arrived so we took it home. - Before we received our bill they offered us chocolate dipped strawberries for each. That was lovely. Conclusion - The food was good. The outfits were silly. The grounds were beautiful. Overall I was satisfied, but not impressed enough to return.

The grounds are beautiful. Stunningly beautiful. A French chateau backed up against the Wasatch Mountains? It's worth going once just to see it. That said, the restaurant itself is incredibly overrated. None of the entrees are particularly amazing, and for the price you pay to eat here, you should be very impressed. And no chicken breast in this world is worth $40. Anyway, the lamb is quite good, and I have to admit that both the French onion soup and the lobster bisque are great. Desserts are good as well. The Sunday price fixed menu is usually pretty good, but was sub-par the last time we went. For scenic grounds and great food, I would recommend Tuscany instead. I read recently that the entire La Caille property is for sale for around $20 million; at the exorbitant prices they charge in this economy, I can't say I'm surprised. However, just to see the grounds or to impress an out-of-towner, it might be worth spending the cash on a trip while it's still there.

This place is one of the best in Sandy,Utah. If you like French food like I do, this is the place to go for a nice escape. I will recommend to choose this place to propose if you have a fiance. It's one of the most beautiful place to propose because it has that little French accent, but also you really feel like you're in Normandie. Nothing close to "Chateau de Canissy". Anyway, I have not been there for a few years, but planning on going there sometimes this year again with my special diamond. Price is very well priced and you get the best services.

La Caille has a reputation for being THE place in Utah for a special night out. That is why my best girlfriend and I talked our husbands into going there for a special Holiday meal. The drive up the private road to the restaurant was the best part. The Christmas decorations were really pretty. Everything was pretty much downhill from there. The service was not friendly, and I found their sexy wench outfits to be really distracting. The dining room (as well as the bathroom) is in real need of a remodel. Too many mirrors, ugly wallpaper peeling off, rusty sink, etc. The food was FAR from special, or even appetizing. My husband had the crab appetizer and it was rubbery and old-tasting. My dinner, the duck, was practically inedible. It was so chewy and bland I could barley get it down. The best part of my dinner was the pomegranate seeds surrounding the icky duck. The spinach salad was OK, but hardly worth the price. Our dessert, the crepes with ice cream, was totally freezer-burned. I expected a nice warm crepe, but was instead greeted by a hard, stale crusty thing wrapped around icy vanilla. We sent it back and got an irish coffee instead. It was overly sweet, but at least that came with a show (they light it on fire). Fortunately we went here with our best friends, so we still had a good time. When I saw the $250 bill (for just the two of us) I wished we had gone to Five Guys Burgers instead. What a waste of money!! Avoid this place. It may have been good a long time ago, but now it is just banking on its reputation and making fools out of people like me!

My wife and I heard that there was a new executive chef. What can I say, but WOW! New menu New food and passion! I feel like the place has changed so much for the better. The food was stellar! The service was great. But the food! OMG! The food! Layers of flavor, and you can taste the passion and love that was put into each dish. I will be back again. Got to see what this new chef brings to the table. You have to go!

Great atmosphere. Great service. Very good food. Some people have complained about the price. Yes it is pricey but far from very high priced. If you cannot afford this place I am sorry, maybe you could find a way to make more money. But don't put down this wonderful place because it cost more than Applebees. Oh I do agree the $5 for parking is tacky

Over the top decor, large portions, and bad food? Welcome to Utah!! If you think Disneyland is fun as an adult, you will LOVE this place. Peacocks come up to you while you're eating! The wait staff looks like escapees from Pirates of the Carribean! Desserts come with sparklers on them!! I had heard this was the best restaurant in Utah, so I was tricked into going here 5 years ago when I moved to UT from CA. The food was HORRIBLE. I had pate for an appetizer, an elk steak for dinner, and some bananas foster nightmare for dessert. I was asked to go a second time, with a friend who had a Groupon. I have to say, it was better the second time. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The salad was okay. Our fish entree was very flavorful. But it was in no way good enough to warrant the price for our meal. If I can at all avoid it, I will never be back at this place.

If you are looking to dine in an incredible atmosphere, this is your place. Not sure I've been to any restaurant quite like this, as it feels like a castle, is right next to the mountains, etc. I would give the atmosphere a 5 star rating, and the food a 4 star. You pay for what you get, and what you get here are the finest ingredients, and you get to eat in a castle. Of the area restaurants at this price range I've eaten at I'd put Silver in Park City at #1, Paris Bistro #2, and La Caille #3.

Since I hadn't been back since 2010, I thought it would be good to write an update, having just enjoyed Christmas dinner there at the end of 2013. First of all, our waitress Shannon was so awesome. She was friendly and warm and welcoming and knowledgeable and could not have been a nicer part of our Christmas dinner. The bread and butter are truly addictive and amazing and the special cheese course that was an pre-appetizer was the highest quality - Heber Valley, Utah really knows how to produce beautiful fromage. I enjoyed a great wine selection by the glass and both the soup and salads were worth writing home about. The entrees were prepared perfectly - duck and filet mignon. And though we were completely too full to finish dessert, the tarte tatain is outstanding - great job pastry kitchen. As a final memory, I have to give serious props to the valet team. It was freezing outside and they were so on top of things. It is a complimentary service but I never felt better about handing over a five spot. These guys are the best in the business and provide that perfect 'fond farewell.' The grounds are unspeakably beautiful - especially at Christmas time and I have to say that the prix fixe menu provides a genuine value for the exceptional holiday experience. I could not have imagined a nicer Christmas. Thank you to the culinary team and the great service at La Caille.

La Caille = Pretentiousville The grounds are beautiful and the decor is over the top euro countryside. The food is less than average with prices far too high for the quality of entrees. A popular place for special occasions and the expense account business crown who enjoy the waitress in their busty get-ups...

This is one of the most overpriced, overrated restaurants in the Valley. My wife and I went here with a coupon, believe it or not, and still walked out after shelling out too much money for dinner. I have to wonder if they're still trying to pay off the mortgage for the property in the foothills of Sandy by what they're charging. While the grounds and ambiance are beautiful, the food is lackluster and nothing really special. I've been here several times, but this was the first time I paid for it out of my pocket and haven't ever had worse buyer's remorse after eating there. The one bright note is that our server was very friendly and had very good table side manners. My suggestion, if you are even considering going to La Caille for anything, get dessert and get out. Too bad, I think they could do more if they weren't only focused on overcharging for everything.

My fiancé took me here for my birthday. Why did he take me here? Because A- we had a groupon, B- We've both only seen the grounds and were impressed, but have never had the (raved about) food, and C- We are somewhat new to Utah and have heard that this is the finest it has to offer. Here's what we thought: Ambiance: the grounds are absolutely breathtaking. The dining room is cozy and romantic if not a bit cheesy. Service: AHAHA! Jim had to literally tell himself to look only at the waitress' faces. The wench costumes left little to the imagination with regard to their breasts. It was like we were at an overpriced Hooters. Also, I thought Utah was a very conservative state...I'm so confused. While very nice, our waitress ( who I assume gets paid well judging by the size of our bill) was in bad need of a root dye job. She also wrote down our order on a white notepad...maybe I am expecting too much but, shouldn't a restaurant of this caliber and price tag have their staff not only memorize orders, but also be able to regurgitate the menu? Ok, Food: Fantastic. I've read the other reviews on here and really feel like too many bad things about this place take away from the fact that the food is really good. I don't know about $100 a person good (we had a bottle of wine and I'm slightly on the thrifty side) but it was really good. Between the two of us we had the scallops, the pork tenderloin, the wilted spinach salad and an amazing vegetable tower thingy (there is a fancier French name) that was literally worth its weight in gold. A Portobello mushroom topped with a slice of potato topped with a slice of cucumber topped with a slice of squash topped with a potato topped with goat cheese topped with sun dried tomato, oh my!

Ah ha! I found this place on yelp! Here is my review (as I put on the "La Caille" yelp page located in Sandy... which is its true location.) Apparently this place is all the rage in Utah! That's why I was expecting pure brilliance when I walked through the doors. I hate it when I'm disappointed. Few things to note on this place: -There will be crazy jungle animals crawling around you while you eat (okay what I mean is peacocks, roosters, and bunnies... kind of cute actually.) -The atmosphere has the same feel as a ride in Disney World: very intricate and themed but somewhat over the top. -They dress in medieval costumes. Kinda cheesy. Made me want kettle corn. -The menu items are RIDICULOUSLY priced. I was in physical pain the entire meal, anticipating the high numbers on my bill. -This place is supposed to be romantic, but I would be irritated if someone brought me here on a date. Very silly. Final judgement: OVERRATED. However, I'm sure tweens would be impressed.

Disappointing service. 25 minutes to get a bottle of wine. Brought soup but no spoon, had to get up and find one myself. Food was Luke warm. Didn't see the waiter for almost 30 minutes. This was a Thanksgiving tradition for our family. We won't be back.

I went here tonight expecting a large bill... The property, that La Caille sits on is amazing. Very Beautiful, little cottonwood creek runs through it with ponds setup through out. Vineyards all around. There are peacocks, that wander around the patio area. Along with ducks and geese. I can't recall seeing any "bunnies, or roosters". I don't think medieval is the right term for how the staff was dressed, but they were in customs. The staff was on point, and ready to aim and please. I am sure if kettle corn was requested by a customer, they would do their best to make it happen... It would then be tossed with some garlic, herbs, and escargot and cost $20, which is about the price of every Hors d'Å“uvre. I went with the rack of lamb, it was great.. The meat was cooked perfect to how I ordered it, rare. If you are looking to spend a couple hundred on dinner, and want some great food. This is the place. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy the food, the scenery, and the "jungle animals". If you are walking into this place, expecting to spend a hundred dollars. You are most likely going to be upset, when you get a bill for a few bills. If you walk in, understanding that you are going to be dropping a few bills. Then you can relax and enjoy yourself, and your surroundings and the amazing food that is about to placed in front you.

Just had a great dinner here with a new chef, new menu, and same beautiful location. Really the grounds are breathtaking. The Lobster bisque is amazing but for 17 bucks, ouch, give me a little more than 5 bites. Salad was great with no salt or pepper needed which in my book is pretty good. My main meal was the chicken picatta which was good, nothing amazing. My companions had the steak and it smelled and tasted heavenly. I love how they give you a palate cleanser between appetizer and dinner. A must have is the irish coffee, it's a show in itself with some pyro action and free pour Kalua, yummy. The other table was a father and his 2 young kids who rather been at our table but the mood was more light than the usual stuffy attitude. Management was friendly and came by to check on us along with the chef. I don't know if it was 8 Brazillian, good looking people or pure customer service, lol. Again the grounds are amazing, great for special occasions or just because. Make sure you can afford it because it's still not cheap.

PART TWO: The halibut was really quite bad. It was so overdone and dry that it would not flake with a fork but rather required a knife! This spoiled the rest of the plate which included a very tasty hunk of potatoes au gratin, two perfectly blanched but under-seasoned baby carrots and two perfectly steamed spears of broccoli. This was not exactly an elegant presentation. My steak was lukewarm (it was probably resting under a heat lamp for quite a while, thanks charity benefit!) but was surprisingly quite large and done a perfect medium-rare, with a nice char on the outside. Unfortunately, the promised bone was nowhere to be seen, and even the indifferent pat of butter on top could not save this dish. This had to be one of the lowest quality pieces of meat I have ever been served anywhere. There were huge chunks of untrimmed fat and minimal marbling. What resulted was probably the world's first negative calorie steak...that's how much chewing was required to down this hunk of cow! I had the same sides as my wife and they were all I could really eat. When I pay $62 for a steak, it should at least be Choice (go to Costco for Pete's sake) much less dry-aged Prime. This was not even Select. Instead of topping with a pat of plain butter, how about making an elegant maitre d'hotel butter? Our evening concluded, after another 30 minutes of waiting, with an order of "Bananas Foster" ($16). By this time, all the other parties had already cleared out and we were itching to do the same. Even though we were still there, the wait staff started to clear all the other tables, including removing all the chairs and candles. Please let us know if we're in your way! In any case, this dessert was invented at Brennan's Restaurant in New Orleans, and classically consists of bananas sliced lengthwise which are caramelized in butter, then flambéed in the pan with rum, brown sugar, and banana liquor. This is then served alongside ice cream. La Caille's version started with sliced bananas in a gravy boat filled with caramel sauce. Banana liquor was poured over this and lighted, creating quite a show. While this concoction was still on fire, it was then poured over a scoop of generic vanilla ice cream. This was accompanied by a rum-soaked tuille (inedible), two blackberries and two strawberries. Needless to say that once the flames burned out, you were left with a glass of raw bananas, melted ice cream soup, and caramel sauce at the bottom. The thing is, if you don't "cook" the liquor in the pan, you don't burn off much alcohol at all and you are left with a banana liquor ice cream soup/cocktail. Ugh. Since it was our anniversary, La Caille topped our evening off with three chocolate-covered strawberries. Talk about a show stopper, one of the strawberries was impaled with a huge sparkler that put on a five minute pyrotechnic display...I was afraid our tablecloth would catch fire. Of note, every other table in our dining room had one as well (anniversary, anniversary, birthday, anniversary), though much earlier in the evening. You too can experience this three hour ordeal for two for $227, water (but no booze), tax and tip included! Oh, and $5 for parking (and gratuity!). This review may have been rather picky, but at these prices in Utah (!), one would expect perfection. For a place that positions itself as the temple for haute cuisine in Utah, the quality of the food is ridiculously subpar and the "Medieval Times" setting is absurd. I daresay the food is consistently better at the Texas Roadhouse. This is not as good as it gets in Utah...Mariposa, Restaurant Jean Louis, and Bambara are all better by far. It is apparent that most of your check goes to maintain the 22 acres that surround the chateau and not the material food costs. The quality of the food is poor, and there is no finesse or sophistication in the preparation. It is hard not to think of the wonderful tasting menus we have had for a similar investment at Le Bernardin, French Laundry, etc. Proceed at your own peril!

A French countryside fantasy tucked into the foothills of Sandy. The grounds are amazing. A roaring river marks one boundary, while impeccably manicured pools, lawns, and gazebos dot the landscape. Swans and peacocks wander the property. You can even practice a few golf shots. An excellent venue for weddings or any large formal gathering. The vast interior delivers an inviting French chateau experience, with stone accents, a wine cellar, and courtyards for dining al fresco. The cuisine is French at its finest, complemented by a wonderful wine list. One of the SLC area's greatest hidden treasures.

We have been dining here since 1972 when it was known as Quail Run. Restaurant had new ownership in the last year or so. Overall we like the new menu but are very disappointed by the service which is inattentive and unprofessional. Our table experienced service by committee with four different servers and none of them taking ownership for the quality of service. In fact, the service was rather anonymous because the servers do not have their names on their name tags (only a number) and none of them bothered to introduce themselves. Wine service was horrible which is not uncommon in Utah restaurants. Hopefully management will address these issues. We will give them another chance but they will lose a long time customer if they don't address these issues.

Went here last night for the first time that wasn't a wedding. Without a doubt, this is the most insulting meal I've ever had. I spend most of my time in Los Angeles, and typically I'm not completely against super high prices, if the food at least attempts to deliver on what they ask you to pay. The prices here are insane. I've had prix fix menus at amazing restaurants with James Beard award winning chefs for less than the cost of the entrées here (which range from around $49-$70). So when you look at a menu and you see a $50 short ribs plate, you want a little more than what was the most unimaginative plate of food I've ever had. The beef itself was passing, something that reminded me of the beef from a stew my mom might make. The mashed potatoes were barely mashed, looking as though they were proceeded with a machine, and tasted stale and basically gross. Then there was some steamed broccoli. Everyone had steamed broccoli on the plate. Oh, and my *mango chutney* (which isn't even close to being canonically french) came in little tin on the side, and I'm 100% convinced it was actually just some jam from a jar. And mine was probably the best dish at the table. The scallops were completely inedible. The thing here isn't that it's a bad meal, which it is. It's also a complete insult to ask you pay that much for food, and give you the world's most imaginative dish. I came away from the meal just feeling awful, the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. Yeah, and that's without evening talking about the ambience. The faux-everything, pathetic attempt at Las Vegas style fantasy that ends up being up a bad (yet way more expensive) version of Medieval Times. But actually, a friend at our table said it better: it's the Olive Garden. Maybe that's why there were so many people there getting completely fleeced.

The brunch is absolutely delicious. The croissants are the best I have had any where - I like the plain ones, but others prefer the caramel pecans. All in all, the wide range of continental entree selections from gourmet crab eggs benedict, filet mingnon, seasonal fish, to wonderfully prepared champingnon mushroom and vegetables (I took a bite from all of my friends dishes and I loved every single one) is a eye-opening. The champagne costs extra. The coffee costs extra. The fruit juices are also extra. The water is free - thank goodness. The swan shaped puff pastry dessert with ice cream at the end of the meal is icing on the cake...it was delicious but really was just so so compared to the incredibly delicious croissant that started off the brunch... This meal made my trip out to SLC totally memorable! NOT TO MENTION the beautiful garden, peacocks, swans, a small golfing area, and dining al fresco patio in the summer time. What a treat!

While La Caille provided a pleasant and memorable evening, the ambiance, cuisine, and service are probably only worth about half the price (which is considerable). My date and I were pleased with our four course meal, but we found the cuisine more dutifully executed than especially inspired.

Okay, so I'm not going to pretend that I remember my sole visit here, because it was years ago, probably irrelevant now, and only hazy in my memory. However, I have reliable insider information that the French onion soup comes out of a Campbell's can, and there are rats in the kitchen. This may be one of the most expensive restaurants in the Salt Lake area, but it is NOT the best!

I've come here twice for dinner and both times have been very good. The first time I ordered the venison and it was a little more rare than medium rare, but everything else was perfect. The total ambiance of the estate is what I really loved. It feels a little magical like your visiting Alice in Wonderland or something. Peacocks are roaming around the place and come up to the tables during dinner. You can also hit some golf balls before or after eating as well!

Service was horrible! First table seated last table to eat and that's only because we flagged them down to ask where our food was. Things only got worse from here. Dropped our dessert on the ground. Got us more but never cleaned up the dropped one. And on and on!

My first time coming here was for a wedding - it was by far the most beautiful, classy ceremony and reception that I have EVER been to. The building itself and the grounds are so freaking pretty and it's really nice to just walk around outside. (Watch out for the peacocks - I swear one tried to eat me.) After the wonderful wedding ceremony, they took us to a bigger hall with tables set up for appetizers and dinner. The service was great - very polite and professional, but not too stuffy. They had multiple servers bringing around the apps - my favorite was a beet with goat cheese and balsamic (picture to follow, the presentation was adorable.) For dinner we were served trout and polenta. Now, I'm not a seafood fan because I can't handle the texture of fish, but I did eat a few bites of the trout and the flavor was out of this world. For dessert they served a molten lava cake that was chocolaty goodness in my mouth! All in all, it was a great experience. They didn't even try to force feed me snails! I can't see myself frequenting here because it is a bit pricey, but I wouldn't mind coming here on a special occasion and try some other items on the menu.

La Caille was once a fine restaurant with outstanding atmosphere, great service, and over priced food that was good but not great. The atmosphere is still great, but the service and the food are unfortunately more befitting a bad national chain restaurant than a $$$$ "French" restaurant. + Atmosphere (especially the grounds) -- beautiful - Food -- I've had better quality meat, cheese, and desserts from Costco sample stands. Some of the dessert pastries we had tasted like day old, mass produced, packaged items from the local grocery store. - Service -- awful - Bar -- subpar even for Utah

"Fairytale meal comes alive in a chateau on the foothills of Sandy Utah." Awe-inspiring, breathtaking, picturesque, sumptuous and decadent are just a few of the words to describe the overall experience at La Caille. From the driveway to the building guests will find themselves commenting on how well the grounds are maintained. The layout and landscape design is something out of a Thomas Kincade painting. Guests are treated to views of waterscapes, fountains, and flowers. Everyone is welcomed and valet parking is available. Entering through the double doors of La Caille, I found myself admiring the interior. The hallway had painted images and the decor is definitely one of a kind. The wine cellar was an amazing sight and boasts various types to pair with meals. We arrived an hour early for our reservations and advised we can order drinks and take a stroll around the property. We indulged ourselves with a manhattan, sidecar, and old fashioned and took a walk around the cobblestone walkways around the property. Seating was on time and our table was located next to a lighted fountain. The menus and wine list intrigued us and the ingredients suggests the chefs knew how well the flavors will meld. We ordered the pan seared beef filet with bernaise and truffle fries and seafood fumet. We also Paired our meals with Sigura Vida Cava and Cover's Drive Cabernet Sauvignon. We were served bread and an amuse bouche of tomato soup with basil. The next serving was a small scoop of lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate. The next course was our main entrees. The pan seared beef filet was cooked medium rare and each bite melted in my mouth like butter. The bernaise sauce was a great accent to the beef and truffle fries was still hot and crispy. The seafood fumet had a nice mild broth and the mix of shrimp, lobster, clams, mussels, diver scallops, tomatoes, spring garlic and basil was an unforgettable combination. The fumet also came with a grilled baguette perfect for dipping into the broth. The final course was dessert. We ordered the pavlova and vanilla ice cream bar with a caramel dipping sauce. The pavlova was divine and was served with fresh strawberries and cream. The vanilla ice cream bar went well with the caramel sauce. This course was a great ending to perfect meal. The food service was well-orchestrated and flawless. The servings between drinks, amuse bouche, palate cleanser, main course and dessert arrived as if timed and planned according to the guests seated at the table. I highly recommend making reservations as this place is well known throughout Salt Lake City as the spot to be in.

Service was horrible! First table seated last table to eat and that's only because we flagged them down to ask where our food was. Things only got worse from here. Dropped our dessert on the ground. Got us more but never cleaned up the dropped one. And on and on!

Been to La Caille twice. First time was for a company Christmas dinner. Food was excellent. We even got our own private room. The second time was for a drug rep dinner. Again food was good. Nice atmosphere both times. Clean bathrooms. Will be back.

Loved it.
