As far as Utah BBQ goes.. This is pretty good. I tried the sampler because I wanted to try all the things.. The turkey was tasty.. the pulled pork has good flavor.. the suasage was what you would expect.. the ribs had a great crust.. They could use buying some meatier ribs though.. The only disappointment was the brisket.. Not tender and not smokey enough tasting. They may need to consider smoking it longer. The sides are all very good. Overall a tasty experience. I think next time I would go for just a big slab of ribs. And I will be back!

My first time at this restaurant and I couldn't resist inquiring about the chisket. I asked the manager for a description of if and he said "It will change your life!" I had to try it after that. It was the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever eaten. A must try when in the area. Now I must go back for the chork.

The amazing aroma preceded the amazing view of the glistening meat behind the glass walls. Came here with a group of colleagues for lunch. Crowd was lively with little to no wait and placement was intuitive from the start of the menus on the walls to a line to the cashier to condiments, utensils, and seating. It did remind me of my BBQ experience in San Antonio and Austin, but more like an imitation than replication to be honest. We tried the brisket, pulled pork kids sandwich, chork sandwich, funeral potatoes, baked beans, and mac n cheese. Brisket was a mix of dried crispy ends and tender moist center. It was pretty good, but for $14, I'm skeptical of the portion. The kids pulled pork sandwich and the chork sandwich looked almost identical without the cheesy center and a bit less sides. For $2 less, everyone might as well get the kids meal since portions are so similar. Both sandwich were meat smashed between two amazingly greasy yet crispy on the outside soft on the inside thick slices of bread...drools. It was good! The meat itself was okay--definitely on the less flavorful side (explains the variety of bbq sauces they push). Sides are $2 each, which is a pretty good deal IMO. The funeral potatoes were mushy and very much like scalloped potatoes but shredded instead. It was bland...and pretty disappointing. Mac n cheese was nothing to write about as well. The baked beans were SO good though. It was perfectly sweet and tangy with just the right texture--not too hard yet not too mushy. Loved it (that says a lot considering, I almost never ever ever have beans with anything). Customer service was SUPER fast and super considerate. We had a gentleman deliver our food and ask if we all got what we ordered and came back to check up on us and even make conversation. It was a good lunch experience, and a fun crowd. Overall, I would come back later on when the colleagues have a craving for BBQ, but I probably won't be going out of my way to come here. Tip 1: They have Wi-Fi! It's BABBQ2 (password: pulledpork) Tip 2: Military/EMT/Fire/Teacher/Police discount is $5.99 for pulled pork sandwich, 1 side, and drink.

First time we went here it was pretty okay. Second time not so much. I think the only thing fully made from scratch might be the meat. Not sure why the same food we had the first time went down in quality. Got a burrito type thing which hardly any brisket. Very wet. The cole slaw was quite wet as well. Beans are out of a can. Just sad.

Let's face it, this location is cursed. A for effort but unfortunately the meats were really dry, probably explains the need for all the sauces. The glimmer of hope is the creamed corn which I found pretty tasty, second to only a place in Layton. Also they serve a soft, moist roll. All the other places serve too dry of a roll IMO. I might be tempted to try them again for their meat infused grilled cheese called chisket and other items but they aren't a place I crave. There are better options in that part of the valley let along the valley in general.

Very Bad, my first and last time there. I ordered a $13,49 plate AND a sausage, both were very small portion, a$16.98 lunch should leave you full. Not Here!!!

Last time I went to this business, it was still in Provo and largely featured average to substandard BBQ at somewhat expensive prices. Fast forward to now and this has taken over (and re-decorated) for the former (and much better) Sonny Bryan's at this same location. This visit is honestly somewhat for the sake of continuity, as I didn't expect a location change to really do much for an ailing restaurant, but then again, you never can tell always... So, fast version is that this is several steps down from the previously promising Sonny Bryan's. It also is a step down from Big Al's or Bad Ass or whatever the BA is actually supposed to mean in this name when it was in Provo. Fountain is a throwaway, since evidently it's hard to get a Freestyle in a restaurant. Menu is even more of a mess than usual, with specials scattered on the walls and lots of other places except the actual menu. On the menu is no combination plate, except for large ones, so I got the smallest of those. I got 1 rib. Exactly 1. It was a small one and very dried out. I didn't sauce it, for a couple reasons. The first of those is that the sauces are mostly disgusting. The second is that I wanted to get a hint of any sort of rub. There was one, but it was very mild and moderate and not especially flavorful. Zero smoke flavor. So, ribs are a bust. They evidently did not have brisket (Texas Q, right?) or just didn't give it to me on a platter that was supposed to have everything, so nothing there. I don't, however, remember it favorably from before, so if it's the same brisket, no great loss there. Jalapeno sausage was acceptable, if, again, a bit lacking in flavor. Smoked turkey (I think) was laughable and the single piece of smoked bacon was a far cry from the majesty of Lucky 13's version. There was also a mound of pulled pork, which was about half fat. Though it wasn't dried out, there was no saving it flavor-wise. It also came with all sides. All of them were noxious, in their own special way, save for the "creamed" corn, which was re-heated via microwave enough to be actively chewy. The macaroni and cheese had a skin on it and the other cups of stuff (one looked like some kind of hash browns) were frightening and unidentifiable enough that I passed. Fries were at least fresh but they apparently decided to empty an entire salt box onto them. The best thing was the sort of sweet coating they put on the otherwise dull white bread bun and when that happens at a BBQ joint, you got problems. I don't care where or if they move this again. I'm done for good.

Prices are way too high for the quality/quantity. Brisket was dry, cold, and unappealing in taste. I wish I were lying by saying the "tangy" sauce smells like terrible halitosis, and will give you breath that makes people question your habits. Menu isn't very good for a BBQ joint. They don't even have iced tea (unless you count those awful black teas from syrup bags). Pulled pork sandwiches are a total ripoff. You need to make/serve finer foods to charge the prices that are charged.

CALLING CALLING RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE!!!This review isn't meant to bash or bad mouth the place. I honestly feel bad for the owner and I hope he/she knows and is aware of the standing of the restaurant. I don't think this place will stay in business unless the owner have a gazillions of money just sitting around to pay for the place and staff to keep the business running. They have a great location and nice interior decor but the food is just not good not even average or acceptable. The brisket was dry, the sides are gross. Seriously how can you screw up Mac and cheese? It's bbq place for Pete's sake! Anyone living in America should know and have enough knowledge how to bbq a freaking meat. We went here twice, the first time we decided not to go inside because there was no customers and the Yelp reviews aren't good. Then we finally did it the second time. We were thinking, "it's a bbq, how can you screw it up?!" We got there and it's a little pricey, but we realized maybe it's s good serving size. I ordered 1/2 lbs brisket and my husband got this pulled pork wrapped in tortilla. FOOD: My brisket was dry and the portion was a joke. We got a side of Mac and cheese which was gross. The macaroni tastes old and saggy and for some unexplainable reason it had grainy cheese, the other side - corn was very interesting and it was very peppery, it's like pepper with corn instead of corn with pepper. My husband said his was disgusting period. PRICE: over priced , very. There was no one in the restaurant and they have too many employees. I think they should invest in bettering their food and not having a hang out place for too many unneeded staff. I feel bad for this place.

A-OK...and that's about it. Something about generic BBQ in Utah...it just seems undercooked and fatty tasting. Just not all that pleasant, IMHO. Dickey's, Famous Dave's, and BA Texas included. And I've been to BA Texas BBQ there on 114th South at least twice now, and I always come away with the same impression...undercooked and fatty tasting meats. Especially the pulled pork. Great service, responsive young folks who seem to hustle well, a good assortment of BBQ sauces that are kept warm on warming trays, and plentiful drinks...but it still comes back to the taste of the meat. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING can compare to the taste and overall quality of Country's BBQ in Columbus, GA. Their pulled pork is drier, more lean, and has a taste that doesn't even require BBQ sauce. So...I hope the manager there at BA Texas BBQ realizes that (at least for some of us) the meat flavors that they provide are just not that appetizing. Maybe that's just the Utah palate that likes this style of meat...but not me. All the BBQ sauce in the world cannot mask it for my consumption.

We had a large dinner party there and the staff was very accommodating and even let us sample meat. My husband said the ribs were the best he's had in the state. My favorite were the cheese potatoes or funeral potatoes! We had to order more because I hogged them all

Good portions of meat. The grilled cheese style sandwiches sre good. I am from west texas and this isn't the same as good texas bbq but it aint no crappy chain bbq either.

Absolutely fantastic! New favorite place. The "Chisket" is a grilled cheese with brisket in it (spicy option is best). They offer bottles of various bbq sauces to try with your food. I would add a picture but it was gone too fast!

Found this place the other day and finally saw a "now open" sign in front and we decided to try it out. The menu looks pretty straight forward, I wanted the 3 meat combo except they were out of smoked chicken, they were also out of mac n cheese. Very weird coming in right around lunch time with not many people inside. They did let me sample the brisket and it was quite dry so didn't want to order that. Went with the 2 meat combo with baby back ribs and pulled pork the 3 sides were the famous beans which was more like a chili, also the funeral potatoes that tasted instant, and the poppy-seed coleslaw was pretty good. The baby back ribs were very tender, juicy and full of smoke flavor, the pulled pork on the other hand was very dry and was hard to eat, even doused in BBQ sauce. I think if I go back it will be for the ribs only, would love to try the chicken if they have it next time.

I consider myself a true bbq connoisseur. I have a big green egg and have been smoking my own meats for years. I tried the ribs and brisket at BA Texas bbq. The ribs were better then the brisket, but still not very good. The texture was decent, but it seemed as if it had been cooked in a crock pot rather then a smoker. The flavor of the ribs was extremely bland. There was no smoke flavor, and very little flavor from a rub. The texture of the brisket was decent. It was tender and fairly moist and fatty. Once again there was no flavor from smoke or the rub. I picked up slight plastic flavor which was not pleasant. In summary this place is not bbq at its finest, there is no smokey flavor or spice. The quality of the meat is not very good. If you know and enjoy bbq this is a good one to skip.

This place made my night. I had heard about them on the Night Side Project, and we were in the neighborhood so we decided to give it a shot. The employees that took our order were really friendly and helpful. I got the chisket and fried zucchini and my wife got the Texas wrap with sweet potato fries. Both were really tasty. Definitely better than your fast food BBQ Dickey's kind of fair. Granted a grilled cheese with brisket and sauce may not give you the best picture of overall BBQ quality, but it was tasty enough that I could go for another one already. Overall, it was a great experience.

Let me preface this review with this. I moved to Utah from Austin 13 months ago and have close to $10k in personal smokers. I know Texas BBQ. I lived in the mecca of Texas BBQ for 16 years and I can tell you this place competes well with the upper middle tier of any real BBQ joint in that state. At the very top end you'll find Franklin's, Mueller, La BBQ, Mucklewaits, Snow. A handful of places it can sometimes take hours to get in to. This isn't at that level but its as good as the old guard in Texas- Blacks, Kreutz Coopers, Salt Lick and some of the best Texas has. Those would be fighting words in Texas but they are true. Some of you may have come in while they were working out the kinks but they have some real standouts. Their Ribs are unbelievably good. The turkey is as well. Their brisket is great, better than any joint of tried in Utah (and I've tried em all), but it isn't stellar. If you are judging them on their brisket and sausage alone branch out to the other dishes and I'll think you'll love what they pull off. Having tried a bunch of brisket in Utah with my smokers I've never had success given the altitude and low humidity here. They kill any brisket I've had in Utah and they beat my Utah brisket as well. Their sides are all good, their Chisket sandwich is awesome and the ribs and turkey are really amazing. Their brisket is as good as you'll find here. Glad I finally found a taste of Texas in Utah.

Pretty small place, nice interior, and pretty good food! You go up to the front to order, then they bring it out to you. I got the turkey and bacon grilled cheese and the chisket. I liked the chisket more, you couldn't really taste their bacon in the other one. I'd definitely come back to try other things. It was a little on the pricey side in my opinion.

In town for Business, Restaurant was close to hotel. I am a fan of good BBQ. Knowledgeable in the whole process, so I decided to give this place a try. I always try brisket my first go around which will tell if the cook ,chef, can actually run a smoker properly. Well got back to hotel, opened up box and had the most unflavored brisket I have ever had, on top of that it was extremely overlooked. So it was like eating unseasoned jerky. Very disappointed, as service was fast. General Manager wasn't very engaging. Little advice, always put someone happy who takes money and orders.. Good luck, I expect that by my trip next year the place will be no longer in business.... Have your friends do honest taste tests..

I will preface this review with this- I know good BBQ. I have eaten BBQ all over the United States, I have had a lot of great BBQ and I have had some bad. My experience today at BA Texas BBQ is the WORST I have ever had. Service: Terrible. Counter staff was not friendly, not even a smile or 'hello'. The server who brought us our food had an attitude. Complete FAIL! Price: Way overpriced! I had the two meat meal and a small drink - $18.13! I about pooped! The price on the signboard said the price was $13.49. My first thought was "that is an expensive drink!" As I later looked at my receipt, they charged me an extra $1.69 because I chose brisket as one of my meats. Seriously? Who does that? What a cheap way to sucker more money out of your customers. Absolute FAIL! Food: This was the worst part. Portions were very small, especially for the price. Brisket was flavorless, no smokiness. I have had more flavor from a Crock Pot chuck roast. Smoked sausage had no smoky flavor and was very under-cooked. The texture was very mushy not firm. The coleslaw was decent, but the funeral potatoes left a lot to be desired. I have had better funeral potatoes and funerals. May be they can serve them for their own funeral, because this place will not make it. I give it less than a year. Culinary FAIL! I try to always give a place two chances, but this one no. I feel like I handed over $20 to be kicked in the nuts and handed some Sunday leftovers. If i was a Texan, I would be insulted to have the 'Texas' name associated with such sub-par BBQ. Save your money and avoid disappointment, go elsewhere (even Dickey's is better).

Food wasn't anything special. Prices need to come down about $2 on each plate for what you get. The only plate that seemed like it was worth what it costs is the sampler plate. You will leave this place smelling like smoke. They need a better ventilation system inside. The place has potential but it appears that owners are more interested in margin. Cheap looking menu. Small portions.

They served us late even though they were closing soon. The food was delicious and the variety of sauces were really good. Plus their Mac and cheese is baked to perfection.

  • Chris H.

I had hope for the place, but as someone else said earlier, it is like this location is cursed. I had the brisket, sausage, and added beans and potato salad. I'll say the brisket was fairly good, and as someone professed earlier, I know Texas BBQ very well, having grown up in the business. The sausage was OK at best - dry and not terribly flavorful, though not bad. The sides were VERY disappointing. Both did not taste traditional - the beans were overly sweet and heavy on the sauce, and the potato salad tasted pre-made. Neither were bad, but were barely average. My biggest frustrations were price and service. Paying the equivalent of $25/lb for brisket when some of the best places in Texas are under $20, even with rising beef prices, there just was not enough food and quality for a $13.49 brisket plate. As for service, there was a lunchtime line of 25 folks, and one girl taking orders while what I presume was the owner/GM walked around checking on folks instead of opening a second register. Again, I had great hopes, but don't see coming back again, and wouldn't recommend this to any of my Texas natives or friends.

I am a man with a beard, and I love BBQ. BA had a great menu and some fantastic sauces. PLEASE try the chork. It has changed my life!

  • Brad W.

I've been in a few times to BA. Lunch gets a standard rush, while nights have plenty of room to grow. I love the chisket and chork. All of the fried sides are made to order, so there are never refried fries like some bb joints. The service is getting more friendly each time I patronize, which is good because I've read mix reviews. My advice, avoid a long wait and bring in the family for some great smoked meat and delicious sides. They also cater. I've spoken to a few clients that have had excellent things to say. Sunday they are open and let you choose any of the daily specials offered throughout the week, another offering not found at other bbq places. I suggest bringing the whole family; they have plenty of kid friendly items such as Mac n Cheese, corndogs, chicken strips, and not to mention all the grilled cheese options. Last but not least, they now have smoked chicken. It isn't on the bone, that work has been done for you. Just order up a sweet serving of succulent chicken mixed with a variety of seasonings that will make your mouth water.

We were going to try this place. Read some mixed reviews about the food, complaints about price and portion size, but we felt we would judge for ourselves. No website or online menu to be found. Called the phone number on Yelp and it's a "non-working number." Most businesses I feel have a goal to provide good service/products and promote themselves in order to turn a profit. BA Texas BBQ apparently is not interested in this so I am not interested in patronizing them.

Thought I would give this place another try. Even worse than the first time. Dry flavorless Brisket and over priced. I'm not sure why these guys are still in business? Disgrace to BBQ!!!!!!!!

Great food! Awesome service and really good bbq sauce. Really cool management. I like the change from sonny Brian's to this! Definitely coming back !!

  • Gordon B.

I had the sampler, and sadly, all the meat was dry, rib, turkey, brisket, all except the sausage. I tried to eat the brisket with sauce in hopes to improve the dryness and flavor, but I couldn't stomach it, uggh. The sides tasted like out of a cafeteria, no amazing flavor, or contrast of taste, just kinda mushed all together, the mac and cheese was alright, it was too bad, I was looking forward to another BBQ place to visit, now it's back to R&R's or Five Star BBQ, where I'm never disappointed.

The food is great! And the owner walked up to our table to specifically ask how our food was and if we needed anything! Great service!

Awesome food with an awesome atmosphere. The owner is super friendly and even hooked us up with some coupons for next time. I had the Chork this time and I will definitely be back for the Chisket on his recommendation! The spicy BBQ sauce was amazing.

  • Micah L.

The owner is a great guy. He chatted us up as he was walking around the restaurant. The Chork and the Chrisket were awesome (Grilled cheese with Pulled pork or Bristket). Also a big fan of the turkey.

    (4)
  • Bradley D.

Ok.....way better than Dickeys! We ordered the chisket, which is amazing, and a two meet platter with brisket and turkey. The meat was moist and very flavorful. The sides were the best. We had the BA Beans and Cream Corn. Seriously....I'd come back for just those. Definitely recommend BA Texas BBQ!

    (5)
  • Shawn C.

Try the sampler platter, it gives you a taste of all the meats and sides. I really love the grill cheese sandwiches and the funeral potatoes, BA beans too. I came with a friend from Texas and he said that it was as good as it is at home. The owner came around to the table and asked how everything was, really a nice guy.

  • Mike W.

This place has been redone and revamped, but it appears they went over budget as it reflects on their food prices. $18 for a two meat meal with two sides. Pretty sure I could go to a lot better places for lunch for cheaper. The brisket was not flavorful and dry. You had to load on the sauces to actually taste something. Too bad they built a patio, I don't think this place will last through the summer. Dickys BBQ is one exit south and I would rather take my chances there with the toxic tea. Better tasting and cheaper.

    (1)
  • Johnny C.

I would give it 0 stars if I could. The cashier is less than enthusiastic to take your order. Then the order gets forgotten/lost and you end up sitting for 40 minutes for a sandwich. Customer service is not in their vocabulary. Never again.

  • Susan M.

Sorry guys, there are mega problems at this restaurant. First, it was dirty. Tables bussed but not wiped, everything was sticky. The drink machine was dirty. The air handler on top of the drink machine is filthy. The pulled pork had been cooked for too long and had lost its structure (very mushy texture). Not much flavor unless you add the sauces (which were watery). Funeral potatoes were frozen hashed browns with velveeta and crumbs on top.. Not terribly good either. Waiting for this one to go out of business and hope that R &R BBQ comes to south valley.

    (1)
  • Cody A.

Meat was dry and un-flavorful! My sausage tasted like it was fresh out of the freezer. I also didn't receive my 2nd side or my bread. Normally i wouldn't mind because the bbq sauce and the funeral potatoes were amazing but i payed almost 17 dollars for a 2 meat and 2 side meal. DID NOT DELIVER!!

    (1)
  • Holly R.

I'm not sure where Steven lived in Texas but it wasn't where I grew up. To say this is true Texas BBQ is an insult! I'll tell you how they can pull off a brisket... They DON'T smoke it! It tastes like they have either boiled it half way or pressure cooked it. Where is the smoke ring? Where are the burnt ends? Where is the smokey taste? Where is the FLAVOR? What a disappointment! Being born and raised in Texas, this is NOT what I call Texas BBQ!

    (2)
  • Christine D.

Very good place! The grilled cheese is fantastic. Their rolls are THE best rolls. Seems like owner is pretty involved and cares about his business. Food was good, prices are reasonable people. If you want cheap food, McDonalds serves that purpose. It's priced just the same as Dickies but quality food. It's BBQ. nice place. Support local.

  • Mike H.

Chisket is die for!!! Very affordable. Get the funeral potatoes. Pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw is a filling lunch offering which is a daily special I believe on Weds.
