This place is amazing. Such a great atmosphere, waitresses and amazing food! The fried mushrooms are to die for. Amazing steaks and all around great experience and restaurant! The place is decorated from head to toe with Christmas around the holidays too, it's beautiful. The opening hours on yelp are also wrong, this restaurant is open nightly (including Sundays) at 5:00pm.

The staff is great! The bartender and waitresses put up with a lot of craziness with our large group on vacation! The decorations are weird... but cool! I had the 8oz Gold Rush "The Tenderest Steak in the Mine" which was a bacon wrapped tenderloin: The steak was one of the bests I have had in a while. I.. Very tender, great flavor! The salad was meh... Nothing special, kind looked like they grabbed a hand full out of the pre-cut bag. They also don't have cheese for the potato.. which is strange. All and all, the steaks are good and worth trying!

I am not happy to give 1 star to my childhood high school dance dinner destination !! What the heck happened to this place?! Oh, I know ... Nothing happened .. It has the same stuffed animals, same dust from 20 years ago, Same menu, same dingy carpet and same fryer grease:) It's dusty, the food is terrible , the waitress was nice but the cocktail waitress was dumb as rocks.. WHAT beer do you have on tap??? " um there are 3 but I can't remember what they are called"! Fried Mushrooms taste like dirty grease. I asked , " do you bake your own bread?" The answer was, "no, we buy it at Albertsons ". WAY over priced. So sad to see a once Great place in the mouth of Ogden canyon go down hill!

Trapped in Ogden with nothing to do, my coworkers and I gave this place a try after a local's recommendation. First impression of this place is that it could be used as a location to film a horror movie. The kind that has the inbred family who stalk and kill coeds with chainsaws. It's creepy. Real creepy. The place was dark, filled with stuffed animals and stuffed with the kind of crap you see filling antique stores' dumpsters. Picture an old bathtub, filled with Christmas lights and pez dispensers. Now picture it with a pane of glass over the top, turning it into a table. Now picture several others similar to it, all filling up a waiting area. Classy. We were eventually seated, which involved following the hostess down some dark "mine" passages to a table. The five of us had a seat and waited for whatever was coming next. Hopefully, it wasn't directed by Rob Zombie. The bartender showed up and we ordered some beers. The beer selection was good, with lots of local brews and a few of the mainstays you would expect. Of course, it was all just 3.2% alcohol. Thank you, Utah. A waitress appeared and we got some appetizers going. Fried mushrooms and calamari sticks. Neither was especially good but came with some good dipping sauces. The calamari sticks weren't really much different than a fish stick. God, I hate those. I decided to go big, with a rib eye steak cooked medium rare. It arrived two beers and a few mushrooms later. I took a few bites and realized that it was overdone, cooked to medium, with no red at all. I inform the waitress, who indignantly exclaims to me that my steak was a "perfect medium rare." After a bit of discussion, she eventually tells me that she is bringing out the cook and I can explain it to him... then she disappears. And I wait. And wait. My coworkers were nearly finished with their meals when the "cook" arrives. And by "cook" I mean "a new steak." I cut into it, and it's BLUE RARE. Jesus. This isn't rocket surgery. She takes it back and returns later with a perfect medium rare steak. Yay. Teamwork! I skipped dessert and paid my bill, which came to something outrageous. I was able to navigate my way out without getting dressed and skinned, leading to the best part of my dinner at the Timber Mine: walking out the door. I'll not be returning.

Out of nine of us, 2 had complaints about the way their steak was cooked. However, the waitress was attentive and friendly. The cocktail waitress was also the same. Food came out fast. Everyone loved their appetizers. Out of 9 steaks, 7 were cooked to perfection. I think the other 2 were being a bit cranky; they complained, and when our waitress offered new steaks, they refused. Overall good experience, quirky atmosphere, great service and selection. Slight mistake in grilling? Maybe, but my filet was fabulous!!

An excellent meal at an incredible price. The food is always great. I typically have the prime rib with shrimp or lobster. It's incredibly good. The deep fried mushrooms are like no other. Save room for mud pie and prepare to be pleased when the check comes!

It's been a while since we hit the TimberMine, but we were not disappointed. Overall the food is very good and the atmosphere is great. Very rustic and cool. We had a large booth for the 5 of us and were very comfortable. Steaks were tasty and the service was good.

Best service I've had since being in Utah. Steak was delicious as well as the homemade dressing. They even gave us a free appetizer. Only gripe is they did the food and drink billing separately which was weird.

Ogden's second best kept secret. We ended up here for dinner one night and wow were we surprised. When we got there the setting reminded me of a steak house that has just given up and stopped trying. We were wrong. not only do they try but they pull it off very well. The staff is very attentive and they try to meet every need you have. Now onto the food. I ordered the 32oz porterhouse. I'm not sure it was a steak....the size of it was insane. I think they chopped off the horns and put the whole damn cow on my plate it was massive. It was cooked to medium rare like I ordered and it was done very well. You mix a MASSIVE steak with a comfy ambiance and a fast staff, you end up with a nice steak house that keeps bringing people back time after time.

after a long bike ride and a soak in the hot springs my friend and i were ready to devour some greasy food. Being ravenous and on the Ogden river parkway with nothing around we decided to give this place a try. Sure it looked a little abandoned and as soon as we stepped in we felt like we may or may not be murdered any moment but there was greasy food on the menu so we were in. With approximately 15 bucks between us (we were on a bike ride in just our swimsuits and dresses after all) we decided to order some appetizers and a dessert to power food up for the rest of the trip. After waiting for only a moment and being hypnotized by a pez table we were seated in a dark room with a lumber jack mannequin and trickling stream. We ordered are appetizers - some fried mushrooms and fries - and our dessert- pralines and ice cream which both came out promptly. They gave us a generous amount of french bread (store made i am assuming) which was nothing special but came with awesome fluffy butter. The friend mushrooms were superb and salty and the fried were fries. The icecream however with its fancy name and description did not live up to expectation and instead tasted like overly sweet cheap boxed icecream and was inedible. We were starving but just couldn't eat it. Overall the service was great and the place was hilarious to look around. i cant imagine spending 30 for an entree here but their drinks are pretty cheap. ill probably be back again just so i can see the look on my husbands face when he sees what i got him into.

I love the Timbermine restaurant. They have a great steak. The prices are really high and they don't let you share an entree though.

I only eat at the Timbermine once a year and that is at my husband's annual Christmas party. I almost always get the prime rib but I have had the New York strip on a few occasions. The meat is under seasoned and the baked potatoes are usually dirty. I don't know how this place stays in business after all these years! The food is subpar and the restaurant itself is cluttered with nic nacs that could use a good dusting to say the least. If you're looking for a great local steak house in Ogden go to Ruby River its superior in every way!

  • Amanda M.

We ate at Timbermine after multiple recommendations from locals while in Utah for our honeymoon and were pretty disappointed. We both ordered different steaks and, while they were cooked correctly, they had no real seasoning or anything special to them. I also would've liked more options for my sides rather than an itty bitty baked potato (with only butter and sour cream) or veggies. We ordered wine and had a very helpful bartender. The other staff was just there to do a job, but not really fantastic with their service. The atmosphere is interesting since you sit in a little both that's all enclosed with wood almost like you're in a mine. A little dated.

  • Chelsi A.

I honestly don't understand the appeal. It's decent. The decor is just odd. The food is overpriced for what you're getting. I'm a resident of Ogden and I don't frequent this place. I guess it's just been around for so long that older people love it. I have no idea. I'd be sad to see it go though, because the bathtubs full of random collectables are just so wacky and unique.

  • Roaming E.

Okay. I've had great steaks there and I've had okay stakes there. They are really heavy on the fried foods and canned veggies. If you want meat and potatoes and greasy fried things - go there. if you'd like a nice salad or fresh vegies to go with your steak, head down town.

We had dinner here on 4/26 with some co-workers. All of us from out-of-town. I had a 10 oz. NY steak, cooked medium. It was ok. Not tough but not any better than a lot of steak places. The atmosphere is casual. The server was efficient, friendly and prompt. The food came out timely and warm. The salad was ok. A bit sparse but I'm finding that to be true at a lot of steak places. A salad, for me, even a small one, helps fluff my tastebuds for the main event...the meat... Oh well. The price was okay too. I would go back but I didn't really find it to be that special of a place.

We LOVE the Timbermine. I have been coming since I was a little girl with my family, and Hubby proposed here, so I have emotional attachment to the place. However, I will try to keep my review unbiased :) We love the steaks here, although, since we have found Bon Rico's in Evanston, WY, they may have been beaten out of the number 1 spot on that front. The place could be called 'corny' but, it has a cute feel to it. I hate how they try to decorate the already western themed things. For example, they put a santa hat on the elk over the fireplace. GAG! But, I digress.... back to the food. The steak is yummy, and we always get mushrooms, which are good, but, it is mostly the memories made there we go back for :)

  • Bryan J.

I thought this was a decent steak dinner till our server came out with a doggie bag wrapped inside out over her hand. Then she reached down, grabbed my leftovers with her hand, and then pulled the bag right-side-out. Then she hands it to me like Fido's unpleasant business. After several visits the average-to-slightly-above-average quality beef -- never blessed with a good vegetable or salad on the side -- has never been good enough to overcome the mental image of those doggie poop leftovers from my first meal here.

The staff makes the dinning experience more pleasant. So many funky decoration. Cornbread is yummy. Steak is tender.

This is by far the best steak in the Ogden area. It's out of the way, and it's usually packed, especially on weekends. I'm baffled by any bad reviews this gets. The only way to go is the filet, I've never had anything else. And start with the either the shrimp cocktail or the fried mushrooms, both are fantastic. Wife and I usually go here for any special occasion or just when we want a great steak.

Back in UT for another event and back to the Timber Mine for dinner. This place isn't exactly what you would call "fine dining" but they do make a DAMN good steak. Timber Mine gets 40 of 50 Fussy Fusspot Points... and 4 stars --- Clean table and dishes? 5 of 5 points. Yes, everything was clean. Clean server? 5 of 5 points. Clean, and friendly too. Clean bathroom? 15 of 15 points. Surprise! Yes, very clean. Subtotal = A perfect 15 of 15 Fussy Points on the Clean Scale! Service? 5 of 5 points. Quite prompt. Ambiance? 4 of 5 points. A little bit Disney-esque with the "Old Mine" theme. Almost expect to see the Country Bear Jamboree musical revue show up. But after a few minutes you don't notice that anymore and once your steak arrives you won't care if you are in an old mine or not. Friends from Finland Practical Scale? 4 of 5 points. Quite practical - large rooms, big parking lot, a little bit difficult to find if you don't know where you are going. Food? 6 of 10 points. Mixed green salad with dressing - ordinary; Baked Potato - about the same as you would get anywhere, Steak - FANTASTIC. The reason to go there is to have a Steak. It was cooked exactly the way I ordered it and tasted great. Price/Food ratio? 5 of 5 points. Quite reasonable price for the amount of food. Bonus? 1 bonus point. Steak wrapped in Bacon. That's worth a bonus point right there! Total: 40 Fussy Fusspot Points.

First thing first: they DON'T have formal attire. It's very casual indeed. (Someone had clicked a wrong button while submitting a review) We came in Monday night (had to make a reservation since there were 9 of us) and had a terrific birthday dinner. Stakes are superb! Housewines are good. Service is pleasant and quick. The interior design is funny, special and neat - certainly worth walking around to look at hundreds of details. Pricewise I was prepared for more expense, but they have spared it for me. If you order drinks (I mean spirits/wines) be prepared to open a tab in the bar, since drinks are served by a separate waitress. A little bit unusual for us newenglanders but not a problem. Highly recommended, yes.

The food was "just ok". For the price, the wait and the lack of service the food would have had to have been life-changing to get me to go back.

Though the food is of high quality, service fast, consistent, and friendly. I would love to see the options to be seated outside. I adlai would enjoy a beer with my steak. Truly a high quality dining service.

This place is a bit pricey if you aren't expecting it to be so. It's VERY good and worth every penny!!! I would steer clear from their chicken and stick to eating their steaks. They have a really awesome filet. What my husband and I love about this place, other than the great steaks, is that you can split your meal for $8.00 extra and get your own sides and salad. My husband I usually share the porterhouse steak, also great. The service has always been exceptional. It's one of mine and my husband's favorite places to eat!

We had a late lunch or early dinner on a Sunday. There was no one in the place when we arrived. Got drinks fast. Mushrooms were good. The salad was fair to poor, did like the house dressing. We waited about 45 min. for food. I don't know what they do when they are busy. I had the ground sirloin. Wanted it med-rare. Very well done. There were 7 of us and none of us were impressed. Soggy vegs. One of the kids had a grilled cheese sandwich. It was burned on one side and had processed cheese. wasn't eatable. I would have liked to see the chef eat it. Nice ambiance, but cold. We kept our coats on. Over priced. Won't go back!

fantastic place to go for dinner. i ordered the tenderloin---was utterly out of this world. i was not expecting such good quality. the placed is cute looking, the front door is hard to figure out where it is--actually walked into the banquet hall. they need better signage here. would have been 5 stars, but they have some arcane way of handling the bar. i had to order from a separate waitress for my drink, and they didn't even fill the glass up to the top. order a manhattan anywhere else, and they pour you a good sized drink. here, it was a joke. did notice a chicago street sign in the lobby--obviously ogden avenue, but after being out of chicago for so long, it did bring a smile to my face. friendly people here--try it out.

"We cut the finest meats your nuggets can buy!" Any restaurant with a slogan like that gets 5 stars in my book. Along that theme, the name perfectly describes the decor. There is natural wood everywhere you turn. And the miners siting around are equals to those in a ride at Disney World. To be honest, my initial reaction upon entering the building is that I was in a Haunted House. The hag at the player piano in the lobby put me over the top. As we were led by our hostess to our table, the Haunted House feel doubled. The center of the room was practically pitch black and had a gold miner scene surrounded by fake pine trees. Each booth was nicely secluded and was lit by a fake kerosene lantern above the table with a light bulb plugged in the bottom. Enough of the atmosphere. Now onto the food. The place is apparently known for its steaks (which are in the $20-$40 range) , but I deviated from the norm and made a selection from the Specials menu: BBQ Chicken with a salad, bread, and choice of baked potato, veggies, lima beans, or fries...all for $14.95. My dining partner had The Miner - ground beef steak smothered in mushrooms and onions with a choice of the same sides...also $14.95. Our salads were actually pretty awesome. The croutons tasted like they were made fresh that day. It also included green peas and a red beet slice (neither of which I would normally eat on a salad) but slathered in their raspberry vinaigrette dressing tasted a little bit like heaven. Next for the drinks. I don't know much about the blue laws in Utah or in the different counties, so I may sound ignorant here, but our adult beverages had to be served and paid for separately from our food. Not a big deal, but just something to be aware of. They had a handful of local beers on tap that were served in a mug so cold, it caused ice chips to form on the top of the beer. They serve liquor and wine as well. Service was also great. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and made our stay in the mine one to remember.

3.5 stars. I came here for a huge banquet before a research conference at Weber State. There was ANOTHER huge banquet taking place across the hall, so this place is big, which is good if you're trying to hold a large event. The meal included salad with ranch (simple, not impressive Denny's style salad...mine didn't even have any croutons), a roll, water or punch, a choice of beef, fish, or veggie plate, and dessert. I chose the halibut and it was very moist and flavorful and came with a juicy slice of lemon and a delicious tartar-ish sauce. The side was a perfectly tender baked potato with sour cream and chives, yum! The steak looked WAY undercooked (I like my meat rare, but I don't want it to still be "Moo"ing when I get it), and a girl at my table was assured she would get her bloody steak re-heated...and then the server never came back so she went hungry. Sad. The cocktails were pretty reasonably priced, 3.50 for a whiskey sour...but there was also barely even a shot of whiskey and it wasn't even good whiskey. My second drink was a Coors light, which was both cheaper and more buzz-worthy (in terms of feeling tipsy, obvi). There is some crazy Dinosaur Park nearby which I totally wanted to go to, but since I had to take a university shuttle, I missed out.

When I want a great slab of prime rib or steak, fried mushrooms and a fun atmosphere this is where I go. Nothing fancy here. Leave your tux and black dress at home. Boots and jeans are best. :)

Really cool place to eat that is made up to look like an old mine. Great prime rib on the menu. I would definitely recommend it so go check it out!

Growing up in Davis County this place was always the go to place for special occasions. Moved away from the area and totally forgot about this place. I am a big prime rib fan and my kids have also learned to love it. Don't have it often but when we do we have been going to Market Street or Texas Roadhouse. Save your money and drive about 40 mins and its worth it. This place is better than i remember. Nice big cut of prime rib and a baked potato for less than $30. Bargain. Had the fried mushrooms and WOW! The salad was great and fresh and the service was outstanding. If you are looking for a fun place to take your family or date, its a bit of a drive but the atmosphere and quality of food is worth the drive. They take reservations for 8 people and up, if going on a weekend would suggest reservations, My son and I went on a Saturday night around 6:30 and had a 20 min wait. Check this place out. It's good for Prime Rib!

  • Kevin B.

The decor is a total mind-trip and worth the drive some Salt Lake alone, but the tried and true menu befit with classic steak house fare and proprietary nuances will make you want to come back. The staff is attentive and polite and when we lost track of time only to realize we were the last people in the building they didn't make a fuss. The beer is ice cold and the drinks (albeit Utah liquor laws) aren't bad. Don't waste your $ on a steak 'cause they are nothing to write home about, but the prime rib is king at the Timbermine and they do it phenomenally! This is why people go there. Flashback to 50's supper club meals in a mining tunnel theme-esq setting. Fun place and great experience! Can't wait to get back!

  • Alec B.

So so good. A great cut of meat and an ambience that is good for conversation. I read a review by some idiot that called it a cheap knock off of Texas Roadhouse and I had to laugh because it's been here since I was a kid and the cut of beef is such a higher quality.

Out of the ordinary atmosphere. Something different. Western miner theme. Country music plays in the background. customer service is excellent! Anything fried in their homemade batter seems to be absolutely divine and totally tasty. Free mudslide dessert on your birthday! Great food. Good atmosphere. I recommend this location for someone looking to get away from the norm

We got the fried mushrooms to start. They were very good. we got the half sized, and they were enormous! Then we got the chicken and two steaks. The steaks were very good, but the chicken was bland. The sauces for the chicken were not very good. The bbq sauce was to set with no tang. The teriyaki sauce only tasted of soy sauce. Stick to the prime rib, the were cooked perfectly and were flavorful.

  • Jacob H.

Let me qualify this by saying I'm from KC, so a good steak is pretty much right in my wheelhouse. I ordered a $30 T-bone; average price for this item, however if I drop $30 for a cut of meat you da*m well better know how to cook it. And, if you don't, come get me and I'll cook it. I ordered this steak med rare, one side of the tbone was med, and the other was med well. Super disappointed. Avoid this place!

My family has gone here for years for special occasions, and we have never had a bad experience. We always order the deep fried mushrooms to start and everyone orders anything from steak to shrimp, crab, lobster, prime rib. The food is always great, everyone leaves full and happy. The service is good, and the decor is perfect for a family night out at a steakhouse.

  • K B.

I gave it 2 stars because the location and decorations were cool. My steak was supposed to be medium. It was still bloody. A good slice of meat is something to be treated with respect. This steak tasted mostly of grizzle and pepper. Even the bacon it was wrapped in couldn't save it. The salad was a combination of greens, homemade croutons, a beet, and peas. Their raspberry vinaigrette was delicious (very sweet) and the bread is good. The service was ok. It took 3 tries to get a drink order and then the wrong wine was brought. You have to pay for drinks on the spot - it is not added to your final bill. The only adornment for the baked potatoes is whipped butter and a herbed sour cream. We had the fried mushrooms. Pretty bland. All in all....once was enough for us. $70 later for 2 people.....we won't be back.

  • Brian B.

This is a local mainstay and is highly over-rated. They are known for their steaks, (which are usually pretty good), but everything else is crap. The fried mushrooms have so much breading and are so greasy they make your stomach knot up and try to reject them. I cannot think of a single good thing I have eaten there besides the steaks. And then the atmosphere...creepy. Nasty dead animals everywhere. They have been there for decades and are moth eaten, dust covered and give the place the feeling of eating in a mortuary. This place needs an updating ASAP. Forget the stupid gimmicks and offer some great food. And before I forget; the background music should be in the background, not drown out any conversation you may wish to have. And if you get a headache from old time, twangy county music, you should steer clear.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I love everything about it and had nothing bad to say about it. Upon entering the parking lot the outside really does look authentic rustic. I believe that's because it is. Has a very used, off the beaten path feel to it. Inside is fantastic. Scenes of the coal mines way back when. Some would think it's corny I believe it to be a great dining experience. As long as the food is good which it was. I ordered the big tbone steak and veggies. Steak was great! Very tender and juicy. Cooked perfectly. Veggies were crisp. No complaints. Waitstaff was very friendly. It is a bit dark in the restaurant but again, coal mine theme. I loved it! Overall very happy with this restaurant. If I'm ever in the area again that will be a destination for me. Thanks Timber Mine!!

  • Steve M.

The service was great as was the atmosphere. The food wasn't up to my expectations though. The appetizers (cheese sticks, mushrooms and calamari all came with cocktail sauce which was odd and the baked potato was pretty small. The ribeye was cooked as I requested but the flavor just wasn't there. A coworker of mine ordered the prime rib which he devoured and it was huge!! He said it was good. I may give this place a second chance next time I'm in town.
