I love this beautiful restaurant in the canyon! For breakfast you can come enjoy canyon cakes (pancakes with something special for the day, usually a fruit but sometimes a nut or sauce) and canyon coffee (normally just flavored coffee). They serve basic breakfast food: potatoes, omelets, etc. It's a gorgeous morning drive! For lunch and dinner you can get mostly sandwiches and pastas. My favorite is the BMD Supreme Sandwich. It's fried chicken with cheese, avocado and sprouts on bread. They have yummy sweet potato fries and onion rings. I love their creamy pesto dressing for the side salad. Don't forget to grab some farr's ice cream for the road! The downfall of this place is the staff. They hire young people and so the service is hit and miss. Sometimes it's incredible service while other times it leaves something to be desired. The last time we went they said it'd be a 20 minute wait when it was almost an hour wait. This was simply because the staff didn't communicate with each other.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe what just happened at this joint. My wife was ordered the very generous 12 piece fried chicken wings appetizer. The wings were okay but the dipping sauce turned out to be pretty good. We asked our very young waiter what was in the sauce. He looked at us in a very surprised manner and said, "Oh, you liked it? I have never had it because it makes me nauseous." Right then I almost fell out of my seat. I let out a loud guffaw incredulous to what I had just heard. You might as well skip this place if you are entering or exiting the valley. This place needs a chef Gordon's rescue. Call me for the grand reopening.

Great for breakfast. It's beautiful outside but we didn't wait the 30 min for an outside table because we have little kids. We are inside and the view was really nice. I got the veg out breakfast and added sausage. I really enjoyed it. Husband got jacks omelet and it was perfect. We want to come up here in the evening and sit outside.

The Oaks restaurant is located about mid-way through Ogden canyon between Ogden and Pineview reservoir. This is a fun little place that is literally right on the Weber river with outdoor seating during summer months with great views of the mountain, trees and the river. Beautiful place to relax and enjoy your food. Their breakfasts are really good with crispy hash browns and thick bacon. They also have awesome burgers and sandwiches (pastrami and steak sandwiches are our faves). During hot summer months or on our way back down the canyon from a long day on the beach or boat this is a great place to stop and have some tasty Farr's ice cream!

Breathe the fresh air This place is like your families house right on the river. Quiet, relaxing and quaint. The feeling it gives me will never get old. The moment I walk in I feel like I'm at my grandmas house ( In the best way you can imagine ) Nothing says a great day off like waking up, and heading up to the oaks for breakfast . My favorite is the valley veg. Out. No eggs , just vegetables, potatoes, green onions, sour cream and cheese. Does that sound weird ? It's not. It's so wonderful . If I'm going " big " ( why not right ?) I add a canyon cake which is their pancake of the day. It's typically some sort of fruit and always amazing. This is the only place I have had fresh strawberries iNSIDE my pancake and, oh my, it's great. If the outdoor area is closed it's a little smaller but this place never cuts corners on their food. I love these places where the owners take pride in what they do And bust their butt to make sure you don't have things like canned salsa, you have fresh delicious salsa. The berries are fresh and seasonal. The coffee is fresh and quality . If you have company coming to town this is a great place to take them as well, then head up to show them all that the valley has to offer. Maybe go to snowbasin for the day, who knows ?

Stopped her with my wife for an early lunch. The wait to eat outside was over an hour so we decided to eat inside where there was a much shorter wait. Our waitress was a real sweetheart and did a great job taking care of us. I ordered the club sandwich and my wife ordered the daily pasta special which was a creamy jalapeño cilantro grilled chicken linguini. The pasta was excellent and my sandwich and fries were delicious. We will definitely be going back.

The food was great, however, the service was less than acceptable. As soon as we walked in we were told by a female waitress where we could, and could not, walk. And when I asked the waitress if we could go outside, she quickly snapped back that it was closed (which I know from experience was not).

Good location very scenic however the food was overpriced and just decent American food. 10$ for a hamburger that's not gourmet is a lot.

Service was friendly, food was good and the location is nice if you're passing thru. Not really a destination spot.

I had breakfast there and every thing was delicious for a decent price. We sat outside and could hear the river. Such a great place to eat.

O.K...first of all the food is wonderful. The mushroom burger is juicy, the pastrami on rye Devine, and the fries and onion rings ( ask for the cucumber wasabi dipping sauce) are amazing! Now I would have given almost five stars except due to my lunch we had this Saturday. We have been here several times and always sat outside. Pony this day, however, we chose to sit inside. We chose a booth and sat down. Once the good arrived we tucked in and, as usual, amazing. As we beaded the end of eating one of my table companions looked out the window next to our booth to admire the mountains. Next noticing all of the cobwebs and dead bugs in those cobwebs on the inside of the window and tracks, I am not saying a few, I am guessing that area had not been wiped down in a very long time. As we sat there we started to take in the rest of where we were seated. I hate to say this, but this resturaunt really needs a deep cleaning and should be maintained better. Needless to say I lost my appetite as I started to worry about how the kitchen was maintained, I understand this isn't a five star fancy resturaunt but a local hometown diner because we always have gone there. But, basic cleaning should also be a priority. I am not sure if I will go back.

The Oaks is an interesting establishment. When we moved here 4 months ago The Oaks was one of our first stops. We waited for 3 minutes at the entry, didn't see anyone, and decided this was a place to be avoided. 4 months later went in for a second try. We were promptly greeted and seated. The host took our drink order but it never returned with the beverages.. Food server took care of it a few minutes later. The setting beside the river is wonderful and the various tiers of outdoor seating is unique. Food service was quick and our burger & sandwich was tasty. French fries were OK, onion rings very good. Food server brought us a dessert menu and my wife said she probably wanted some ice cream, but the food server never returned to get the dessert order. In fact, sat there for 15 minutes and never saw her again. Not at our table, not at any table. A few minutes later someone else brought us the bill and just set it on the table. At that point we gave up on the idea of dessert. Oh yes, saw 2 other couples strolling around the patio area for 5 minutes. Nobody acknowledged them or offered to seat them. Several staff members just walked around them like they were invisible. They finally asked, "Can we sit here?" and the food server found the host to seat them. Guess our first experience was more typical than I realized. Because of the beautiful setting and pretty good food we will go back again

We had a great experience at breakfast this morning. My husband ordered Jake's omelette and I had eggs, hashbrowns & bacon. Everything was delicious! The homemade salsa that came with my husband's omelette was to die for. The service was prompt and friendly, and the prices were very fair. We will definitely be back!

It doesn't look like much from the road, but there isn't a time I've gone by that I didn't see cars in the parking lot. A giant Farr Better Ice Cream sign beckons you in on hot summer days, but The Oaks offers so much more. A menu that ranges from burgers and fries to vegetarian raviolis to bison rib-eye - truly there is something for everyone. Now, the food is wonderful but the location beats everything. Just take a peek at this shaded table below! Tall trees, the river bubbling below, and built in tables... the outside seating area is wonderful for family events (in fact, a reunion was going on while we were dining and I kept thinking how lovely it looked!) It would also be fantastic for dates, and it was very kid-friendly. Inside the restaurant is retro and cozy, although the bathroom was rather cavernous and dark. Our food was wonderful, from burgers (vegetarian and regular), a hand dipped corn dog for my son, tempura chicken strips for my daughter, and the onion rings and sweet potato fries were delicious. Several waiters popped in to make sure our drinks were always full, and the service was fantastic. My whole family cannot wait to drop by again for a meal, and I am sure this is the place to be on a hot summer evening.

The food is not terrible but not great either you can get the same quality at fast food restaurants al a much cheaper price. The seating is nice so the reason I gave them any stars is for the view alone. That takes us to the service which I would say is non existent . So if you want mediocre food with a great view and want to wait forever for a drink refill, to get a table or for your food after you have ordered than this is the place for you.

Great spot- locally owned. I had the Jack omelette- named after the owner's grandson/our waiter's son. Great- feta, spinach, mushrooms- topped with sprouts and avocado- yum. The hashbrowns are super crispy breakfast potatos. My kids had french toast and a cheese omelette-big portions- they split 2 entrees between four kids and plenty of food. The stream is gorgeous and it was a great place to stop on our way home from Ogden valley. Go here. The food isn't incredible, amazing...but it's good and reasonably priced. This is the kind of place you should go to instead of one of the thousands of chains... check it out

  • Brian T.

Food is slighlty above par at best, but you can eat on the balcany right beside the river and wave to the occasional ww kayakers as they float by. And they have their own Farr's ice cream shop for desert, can't go wrong with that.

Have not been here in 4 years... Should have trusted my gut and kept on driving. We were seated next to the river and they had a good selection of beer on tap which kept me from loosing my mind. My partner had a good tasting meal, over priced, but good. My meal was nasty and small. It tasted like they have not cleaned the grill all summer. In the future we will keep on driving.

Wow, only two reviews! I guess this could be due to the fact that the Oak is situated in the middle of nowhere and looks more like a truck stop then a restaurant. My pals and I had a late lunch here after jet skiing at the near by lake. Yes I did something outdoorsy! We had to wait about 20 minutes in order to dine al fresco but it was well worth it. The restaurant is situated right by a creek and you pretty much get a set right next to it! They had cute benches with shade so you wouldn't get too hot from the dessert sun. We enjoyed the live music in the large comfortable waiting area before we were seated at a large table meant for 8 for 4 people. The menu is your basic diner/american food with staples like club sandwiches, burgers, chili and the usual. I can't complain though, I love good ol american food! I had a basic salad with a side of chili. Although the chili was a bit too watered down for my liking, and the lack of meat was unfortunate the ambiance of this place and the bustling creek beside us made this experience really enjoyable. The bill was incredibly cheap with all the meals being around $6-8. Tip: Try the berry blast pie a la mode. I haven't had a pie in AGES and this one really hit the spot! UTAH SHOCK: What the heck is fry sauce? I'm pretty sure I know how to mix ketchup & mayo on my own.

  • Rob W.

Summary: Unambitious school cafeteria fare served at tables next to a river that is less burbling stream and more weed-choked open drain. The shrimp "tempura" appetizer would be more properly named Deep Fried Shake 'n Bake With Rubbery Shrimp-like Substance. I had their buffalo burger, which was perfect - perfectly circular, perfectly gray, perfectly flavorless. Like the fries, this burger came from the freezer section of the local Costco. Or possibly, Staples. At about $20 a head for dinner, The Oaks certainly satisfies its niche as overpriced tourist food. Not recommended.

Don't bother coming here if its nice outside and your wanting to be seated in less than an hour. The hostess told us 15 minutes was the wait time and we ended up waiting for over an hour for a hamburger. We would have been better off buying whoppers at a burger king and then having a pic nice somewhere instead. Waititng this long is worthless for any meal. I don't care what the atmosphere in a place is like. I will never be back to the Oaks on a summer evening again.

  • Jake B.

It's a cool location, especially if you eat outside, but that's the only reason this place gets 2 stars. I have eaten here a few times and the food is terrible. The wait staff has been nice but they don't do a very good job at actually being attentive to you. They don't have huge portions but I've never finished my meal here simply because the food isn't good. I always want to stop in because of the location, but have to remind myself that the food sucks.

Personally I can't recommend it. We have been coming to Eden now for 5 years to ski and never made it to The Oaks. I talked my group into going this trip. Our table was in the back, cold, and over something that sounded like a sump pump going off (loudly) every couple of minutes. Annoying. We had reservations for 7:30, got there and it was maybe 1/2 full at the most. Took 15 minutes just to get water. Food, pretty poor- I had the Swai, which the menu says this Swai is a white fish filet with a sweet mild taste similar to river farmed catfish. the swai is pan fried and served with vegetables. I wasn't expecting breaded pan fried fish- tasted like I was eating fish sticks. No one else in my group really liked what they got either. Service was slow, and when we finally were able to leave, the whole place was empty but us and staff was anxious to lock the door behind us. If they had been faster we could have let them lock the door sooner If staying in Eden drive a little further and go eat in Ogden instead.

We happened upon this place by accident, we were in town from California for a wedding and decided to take a scenic drive up the canyon to the reservoir. We stopped for ice cream cones on the way up, and remembered the outdoor eating area on the way back down when we were ready for dinner. We were seated outside (unfortunately not next to the river) and I could not stop staring at the gorgeous mountain looming over us. I had the steak sandwich and my sister had the pastrami sandwich, both with sweet potato fries. Their "cusabi" dipping sauce was wonderful! I was having a hard time finding food in Utah with any "kick" (probably just don't know where to eat) but this did this trick. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, our iced teas never went empty, the food was good, the view was phenomenal, and we finished off our meals with some of the most delicious coffee I have ever had. What a nice little surprise this place was!

Like everyone else says...nice ambiance, very mediocre everything else... We sat outside on a Monday for lunch (actually like 5 hours ago haha). We got an awesome seat right next to the water, with a view of the mountains on the other side. Great location!! Here are the downsides: we ordered the corn poppers or whatever...little corn nuggets that are battered and fried like a corn dog. These were actually really yummy! But on the menu, an order comes with 12 poppers, and we got 9 teeny little things. OK, disappointment number one. Next I ask the waitress what the pasta special was, and she said "tortellini", so I passed on that. I then later passed the sign, and the full description was so much more than that! Cheese tortellini in a creamy pesto sauce. That sounds actually super yummy, but a little late for that since we had already ordered. Also, on the menu you can upgrade your potato chips to fries or onion rings for an additional price. You can also upgrade to sweet potato fries which our waitress failed to tell us. We so would have ordered those. Anyways, when we got our bill, they charged us $2.25 each for upgrading our fries...Jeeezus! I guess we should have asked first, but that is a lot of money to go from one potato to another, yikes. Usually an upgrade fee is like 40 cents to a buck! Then finally, and bless their hearts, the waitresses were quite nice, just not all there. We got our food quite quickly, but right when we got it, our waitress decided it was chatting time. All I could think was "stop talking to me woman, I'm starving and my food's getting cold!" I had to endure like 2 minutes of talking (that's a lot of small talk) while my hubby chowed down and I had to be polite. Ugh. Overally, I would give this place 2.5 stars. I highly doubt we will be going there again. The place has so much potential, but they fall incredibly short in some major areas.

We love coming to the oaks, rain or shine. Everything we have had has been wonderful. Our favorite for lunch or dinner is the chili in a bread-bowl with a salad. They have homemade blue cheese that is amazing! If you go for breakfast, get an omelette, you won't be disappointed.

I love going to The Oaks. I do a lot of commuting between Ogden and Eden, and The Oaks is my favorite place to stop for a bite. The food is just above average, and not extremely consistent, but I have never been disappointed. I usually get the pulled pork sandwich. The atmosphere is great! The summer time is amazing when you can sit out on the patio, and there is plenty of outside seating! And even inside during the winter is very cozy! There is always a great view of the river, and mountains. The Oaks is a great place to stop on your way home from Pineview during the summer months, or on your way down the canyon from the ski slopes during the winter months.

Growing up in Ogden i have been to the Oaks countless times. Recent experiences were not too good. Horrible service, mediocre food at high prices. Location, Location, Location that is what they have going for them wish they can do better on the rest of the experience.

A friend of mine took me to The Oaks for breakfast while I was in from out of town. There were many pros for me. We sat outside, it was a beautiful day. I ordered the egg sandwich and I thought it was delicious. The hashbrowns were also delicious, perfectly cooked so that they were soft and moist on the inside, crunchy on the outside. The service was great. The coffee was nothing to rave about. My son had the Belgian waffle and he didn't care for it (which is very unusual for him), when I tasted it, it was a little off. My friend had The Oaks breakfast with sausage, and enjoyed it. I'd come again, if I were in the area.

Best breakfast ever. Real baked potato hash browns. Thick crisp bacon. Cool laid back atmosphere right next to the river. The Oaks burgers and fries are super. You don't find gems like this often. This is the best chow is Northern Utah. Sundays nights feature live music from the very best local musicians.

Nice relaxing place to eat. We were there on an August afternoon, was an oasis after getting cooked in the sun outside of the canyon. It was simply a perfect setting for dining on a summer evening. Food was good but you come here for the atmosphere. Price was OK, four of us had dinner for just under $50

I was excited to try this restaurant after a beautiful Saturday drive in the canyon. We were told to find ourselves a seat then the hostess came and asked if we wanted drinks but told us they were out of ice. We actually like our drinks without ice so that wasn't a big deal for us. 5-10 minutes after ordering our drinks, our waiter finally showed up and we ordered. The menu is not large and you have to pay "an additional charge" for fries or onion rings as all the burgers and sandwiches come with potato chips. After ordering we sat around for over a half an hour, watching all the teenage staff unload their food shipment, waiting for our food and trying to appease our hungry toddler. The room was uncomfortable as there was no air flow even though there were 3 vents pointed right at us. When the food finally came we were pleased with the taste. Or maybe we were just starving and anything would have tasted good. I was happy that they gave me the option of a whole wheat bun. My hubby enjoyed his steak sandwich. Our daughter's nuggets tasted just like the ones you get at the grocery store deli. We had a restaurant.com coupon and had to spend at least $20. I looked that the menu before we left home and saw that their sandwiches were in the $7-8 range so we figured that with drinks, $7-8 sandwiches and a $4 kids meal for our daughter, our bill would come to about $25 minus the $10 coupon. I asked my husband what the total was and he said $26. And I thought "minus the ten dollar coupon, ya, just what I figured." "No, that's with the $10 off. The total was $36." I was not so happy at that point. The "additional charge" for the onion rings and fries added $6 to the bill. Our drinks were more than I've ever paid at a restaurant for drinks and they added an 18% gratuity (which, I've come to understand happens when you use restaurant.com so I can't really complain about that.) I walked away with an overall bad impression. The food was not worth waiting 30+ minutes for and I think it's stupid to charge someone $3 for fries to go with their burger.....and watching their entire staff unload their food delivery (we couldn't help but watch, they kept walking right past us) wasn't what I call a good dining experience.

Great for breakfast. It's beautiful outside but we didn't wait the 30 min for an outside table because we have little kids. We are inside and the view was really nice.

Wear a jacket, sit outside and look at the autumn leaves! Slow service brings okay food. The wonderful canyon view probably makes it taste much better, but we keep going back.
