"Taco Taco, where have you been all my life?" - a love letter by Anne My dearest Taco Taco, I've looked far and wide for 5 years for a placement would serve some real, delicious tacos and Hispanic foods. I've tried many a taco stand, many a pseudo Americanized Mexican food, many a hole in the wall pozole shop, only to skip over your simple, subtle, but strong flavored restaurant. Alas, your tacos, legit salsa with legit kick, and wondrous tortillas will never be neglected again. Till our next gastrointestinal embrace, Anne

It was fine...nothing remarkable, the chips weren't as crispy as they should have been, and chips/salsa refills cost money... Not the best Mexican food in the area. Service was ok but a little bit weak...they didn't really hear/understand our order completely. Probably wouldn't come back here unless the areas other Mexican restaurants are equally average.

  • Trevor K.

If you want American Mexican not your place they have daily soup specials ran by Ray it's a great to see someone that has been doing it this long to still takes pride in what he does that being said service at times can be hit and miss and with some servers are separately at language barrier but definitely worth it

Man, this place is weird. The atmosphere is weird, the owner is weird, but woah, it's SO good. I've been to Taco Taco a couple of times, I wanted to make sure it was a solid joint before I committed myself to this place. Forget every other place in Ogden, this place is the best for Mexican food. I love the chips and salsa, and I usually gorge myself on it before the main course even starts. I love the tacos, but the chile verde is where it's at. I'll be honest, I couldn't tell you if this was real mexican food or not, but dang, it's so god that I don't even care.

  • Kim J.

Food was very good, homemade chips and salsa, flautas, tacos, and enchilada suizas were all excellent. Service great. Restaurant has been there a long time and looks a little cluttered and sketchy. Having said that the table areas were clean and it wasn't sticky, gross or uncomfortable. Just not quite 4 star location. Food and staff are definitely 4 stars!

  • Ryan F.

The chips and salsa are seriously delicious here. I ordered a carne asada burrito and it was very good. I would definitely come here again and try more items off the menu. If nothing else I would come here just for the chips and salsa... So good.

    (4)
  • Cody S.

OK... here is the verdict! Friendly. Salsa is good. Food is OK. Chips suck and they are greasy. You only get half a basket for 4 people and then they charge you for more when you ask. Price sucks even worse. On the plus side, it is a Mexican food place that won't make you fat! Save your money, go to Chili's or somewhere else! You people that rated it better are crazy!

This place is just straight up gross. Nothing good about it except cheap beer. Nasty.

Wow. Wow. Wow. So here's my background: I was born and raised in Central Texas and I married a Hispanic girl from El Paso. We like great tex-mex and LOVE great Mexican food. Taco Taco delivers the absolute best Mexican food we have had in Utah. From the appetite piquing, house-made salsa to the ideally sweet-but-not-too-sweet horchata to our dinners - everything had us oohing and yumming. I had my favorite dish that I gauge all new Mexican spots on - enchilada suizas de pollo with a couple of tacos Mexicanas (aka "tacos" to those that know true Mexican food) on the side. The better half had combo #2, which came with one enchilada, a taco, rice and beans. Enchiladas earned an A. Couldn't ask for better this far from the border. The tacos were just how we like them - anyone whose had real tacos know they should come on two corn tortillas with cilantro and onions. Lime on the side...no greasy lettuce, rubber cheese, or Doritos powder. Bomb.com tacos. I had chicken and she had carne asada. Neither disappointed. They're a steal at $1.95 a pair, too. Rice and beans were as good as they come...even drew comparisons to "mom's" from my wife. We're done looking for a taste of home. Thanks for trying to the nominees but we have our winner. Superb!

  • Patty C.

My neighbor and I stopped by and ordered the pozole soup and it was delicious! I loved the flavor, the chunks of meat and the fresh vegetables that the give you to top the soup with. I've tried another competitors soup and it wasn't as flavorful as Taco Taco's. I will definitely return again for more pozole soup!

  • Brian B.

This is authentic Mexican food, not Tex-Mex or some Americanized chain restaurant. It's not Chilies (Thank-God!) as some idiot who has probably never been outside of Utah County posted in their negative review. The food is simple, tasty and plentiful. The atmosphere is similar; simple and laid back. I usually get the Chili Verde and my son loves the enchilada suizas. They even have dishes that my vegetarian daughter can eat. If you don't know and love authentic Mexican food, you may or may not like it. If you appreciate good authentic Mexican, you'll love it. If you think Chili's is Mexican food, you have no credibility...be gone with you!

  • Skyler C.

Real Mexican food is different from one restaurant to another. I love the way they prepare the food at Taco Taco. My first Chili Relleno made with a Poblano pepper & covered in a red sauce, Mmmmm so good. Love the tacos with freshly fried shells prepared at the time you order them, Carne Asada, Fish, Pollo & Potato. . . .all the Taco Taco tacos are excellent! Staff is friendly and eager to please. Always a great experience.

  • Brian G.

Favorite Mexican in Utah! AMAZING chips & Salsa! I recommend the enchilada suizas. I always forget about this place and every time I come here I vow to come here once a month. It is definitely worth a stop.

  • Paul E.

The food is edible, however very disappointing with how small the portions are. The chips and salsa were pretty tasty, but once again very small portions and only the first basket is complementary. I had the Enchilada Suizas - they had good flavor, but not much sauce. I also didn't want the beans and asked for extra rice, but was only given a small portion of rice. My 8 year old son had an enchilada and was still hungry after eating it. My husband had the Chile Verde burrito. As stated in another review, the burrito was (small) stuffed with pork and then covered in a jarred green sauce - not a true Chile verde. The cost for our family of 4 was over 40$ including tip and we left hungry. This may be a favorite of the locals, but for the money it sure didn't impress us out of towners.

  • Jim W.

The bad: Had the Chili Verde its not real if you don't actually cook the meat in the sauce... And I could forgive that if the sauce tasted good, but you can get better Verde Sauce out of a jar. Basically it was warmed up pork with a bad jar based (my guess) verde poured over the top. Guacamole had a horrible flavor as it was way past its expiration date... It left oil residue on the plate as the oils were seperating from it, not good at all. The good: Ray seemed like a cool guy, $4 modelo/tecate tallboys, the pico de gallo. Only had one meal here so I can't comment on the rest of the menu.

  • Brielle Y.

I'm not sure why this place would have worse reviews! Absolute best Mexican food place in town! Very genuine for a utah roomy and ray is such a nice and caring owner. Nothing to complain about!

While visiting Ogden my wife's Uncle raved about this place. The server was very friendly and the menu had a nice selection. The chips and salsa were great. We ordered more because there were hardly any chips in the first basket. My wife ordered the enchiladas suizas. I got the carne asada burrito. The burrito looked good but the meat was not seasoned at all. My wives enchiladas were ok. The biggest surprise is we were charged for the extra chips. Usually they are complimentary or free with entrees. The food wasn't worth the price in my opinion. Don't wait around for your check either. You have to walk up to the register and have them find it. It would have been nice if someone told us that instead of us waiting around for 15min. If you're looking for great mexican food skip this place.

  • Julie K.

Let's start out with the positives: attentive, friendly service, local business. And that's where it stops. $30 lunch for two should be fabulous in Ogden. This wasn't. We had a chili relleno and the shrimp enchiladas. I did deviate from my standard of two tacos but was so optimistic that it would be a local gem that this is very disappointing. Only mediocre food.

    (2)
  • Vikkie N.

Oh my goodness - what a gem! The only thing close to Mexican we've had since we've been back in Ogden is the Sonora Grill. This is REAL Mexican food -- and FAST! We gave our order and not a couple of minutes later (literally) my burrito was on the table in front of me. My husband remarked that it was the most meat he's ever had stuffed into a chimichanga ever! My burrito was superb - lots of meat, and the perfect amount of rice and beans. We'll be back.

    (5)
  • Montain B.

Customer service was GREAT! Over all I would say that the quantity of food for the price was good, but the quality was on the lower end. Generally the food was greasy to include the starter chips. Willing to go again to support a local business... might drink a bit more before I go next time.

  • Robert S.

This is one of my favorite places for Mexican food in Ogden. Great tacos great enchiladas I have liked pretty much everything I have ever eaten here. It is a little more expensive than other places which is why im giving it 4 stars.

  • Perri H.

Let me start by saying, Everyone has an off day and maybe I didn't order the right thing. After my business meeting in Odgen I jumped onto yelp to find some local cuisine. I was excited to see Taco Taco getting such high reviews. (This will not be one of them) While they were moderately busy, (less then 1/2 full), it took them a while to take my drink order and even longer to bring me my drink and take my order, say around 7-10 mins before my drink arrived. Like I say above, maybe I order the wrong thing, everyone mentions the taco's but I went with the Chili Verde. After I ordered I waited, and waited, and waited. When the waitress finally came back out, it wasn't to bring me my food, but it was to ask me again what I ordered, another 10 minutes gone. After that, the food came out quickly, but for me it was tasteless. Not the spicy Chili Verde I was expecting, but some shredded pork in what tasted like a verde salsa. While I will go back, (I always give a second try, even to Hooters), I will not be trying the Verde again, I stick with what everyone says they are good at and get some taco's.

Great food, reasonably priced, excellent home made chips. Ray and family are some of the finest people you will meet.

  • Just_Dason L.

This is by far the Best Mexican food I have eaten. It is a mom and pop ran business so expect that going in but the food is rock solid. It is made the way it should be. I have been going here for 15 years now and nothing has changed. If you ever get a chance to try Taco Taco you won't regret it. If you are in a hurry try it next time around..... I remember taking a person here I was really fond of, she asked if we could go out in public because no one ever did that with her so this was the spot we went. I never stopped taking out after that, I wanted to show the world how special she was.

    (4)
  • Jon L.

This restaurant is awesome!!! The food is great, especially the enchiladas. Ray, the owner, is also super nice. He is friendly, gives great customer service, and has some great stories to tell. Im from Los Angeles and have considerable knowledge of mexican food, and I gotta admit that this place rivals some of the best in LA for the price. This place gets 5 out of 5 sombreros.

  • Nicole P.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Possibly the best tostada I've ever had. It was a little pricier than I expected. 3 people at lunch time ran me about $15, but we had plenty of food. We got a chicken and marinated pork taco (gringo style, I know I know), rice, beans, chips, salsa and a carne asada tostada. The tostada was a delicious fried corn tortilla topped with about 2 pounds of tender, delicious meat, lettuce, guacamole, beans and cotija cheese. Definitely todays winner. The tacos were good as well, with plenty of meat to satisfy. The salsa and homemade chips were tasty and we munched plenty of them. I'd definitely go back for that tostada.

I was very excited to visit Taco Taco, but when it came down to it I was a little disappointed. The taco were good, but I went into the meal with expectations of Lone Star Taqueria in SLC, I wish my expectations would have been met. They unfortunately are not comparable, but if you need authentic tacos in Ogden this is a good option.

  • Maxwell M.

I was introduced to this place by a close friend who is a culinarian. As a sucker for anything Mexican my fiancée and I decided to try this place out. I love what are called Mexican "Street Tacos" This place has some of the best in Utah. My fiancée tried their hand fried crispy taco so i decided to try it a different time i went. Their authentic use of Mexican cheeses and slow roasting of lengua makes this place special.Their enchilada sauce isn't anything to write home about, but all in all this place is great. I live in SLC but i am willing to travel 30 minutes for some great Mexican food like this

    (5)
  • Max S.

I like the food, but I don't know why.... When ever I eat here, the food makes me real sleepy. I can't think of any other restaurant that does this to me. It's weird, but I have talked to other people that have eaten here and it makes them feel the same.

    (3)
  • Christie F.

Possibly the best Mexican in Utah? IMHO, this place is far better than Red Iguana (in SLC) AND you don't have to wait! This little hole in the wall became a regular pre-skiing place for us this year. They have fantastic huevos rancheros, are open on Sundays, AND serve alcohol. Yay! As others have noted, the salsa is homemade and delicious. They have a good variety of vegetarian food, and the price is right. This is a great place to relax on a Sunday morning or to grab one of their fabulous tacos at any time. I'm a particular fan of the shrimp tacos, although I love their fish tacos as well. It's too hard to choose. Portions are also big and you get good value for money here. Brought a group of friends here for dinner once and the service was just... bizarre, which is why this gets four and not five stars. Food came out at varying times and items were forgotten. The food was great, though, as it always is.

I really enjoy Taco Taco. The employees are always super friendly and the food is tasty and authentic. My favorites include the taco ramon and their thursday/friday special chicken soup. The taco ramon (a flour tortilla with bacon, tomato, and avocado) is yummy ,even if my husband rolls his eyes at me when I order a bacon taco. Their chicken soup is totally crave-worthy - it is so popular that sometimes it sells out early. It comes in a huge bowl with two big pieces of bone in chicken in it. It's hearty enough to eat as a meal. I'm just sad I lived in Ogden 4 years before discovering it.

  • Scott C.

Best Mexican food in Ogden, Ray does a great job and is very friendly!! Very authentic, and my favorite type of place which is very low key and somewhat of a hole in the wall, with great food!! Great homemade chip and salsa, which if you call for takeout get a bag of chips and salsa to go they are great!!

    (4)
  • tyler c.

Quite arguably the best mexican food in Ogden. It's bit of a hole-in-the-wall and has a very casual atmosphere with telenovelas often playing in the background in the daytime. The food is extremely authentic and not too pricey, and the employees (almost always Ray) are very congenial. One thing I always order when i go there is a fish taco. And don't knock it till you've tried it! (if you don't mind the expression.) They're amazing. The salsa is always fresh and very spicy. So check it out! they even have gringo burritos for the faint of tongue and additional parking in back (via 29th)

Didn't care for it. Dirty. Weird food...a little too authentic for my tastes.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America.
