Had late lunch there yesterday and heard their claim of best steak in Utah for the last four years. I had the smaller fillet that was wrapped in bacon, I was not impressed. The service was great and so was the small Caesar salad. I was there for dinner a few years back and also had a fillet. It was mediocre at best, Not something you would expect from an award winner.

8oz New York strip had good flavor. Wasn't a fan of the yam potato...but the concept is cool, I guess. Staff was friendly, especially the waitress who took care of our table of 12 in an excellent manner.

Not very good. Long winded server, very long wait between appetizers and main course. Halibut that was more like a Gorton's fish stick. I'd be unclear about why somewhere like this stays in business, but they still carry bologna in grocery stores, so..........

The staff was friendly, and the establishment was clean. Prices are medium to high. I ordered the chef recommended 16oz New York Strip cooked to medium. I chose the wedge salad and steamed veggies. The salad was probably the best part of my meal. The steak was really tough and over cooked. The veggies were hard and did not have flavor. I will not be going back.

Yeah, pretty bad. When a chef is talented and the steak is good, you don't have to do a lot to it for it to be delicious. Not here. They doctored up the beast to such a degree that I couldn't tell if it tasted bad because the steak was bad, poorly cooked or just too seasoned up. Mediocre salads, bad unartful dressings and, well, what can I say the drink refills were nice. I'm sorry to say it Ogden but the people in my party defended RR by posing this question, "What did you expect on the outskirts of Ogden?"

Will not return for the following reasons - 1. Rude and unprofessional waitress. She knocked over a beer which spilled into my co worker's lap, blamed it on him, asking what was he "doing over there," and did not apologize even once. Another waitress came over to our table and apologized, saying she saw that our waitress had not placed the glass on the table all the way, and she had knocked it over. Before checking to make sure we were done eating, our waitress brought our checks to the table in a pile, saying we needed to figure out whose was whose because there was no way she could have remembered... we had a party of eight, each of us ordering a different meal... 2. Food was mediocre at best. I ordered the filet, medium rare. I received a medium-well excuse for a filet. The pretty grill marks were the equivalent of makeup on a pig. Bottom line, you could receive far better service and a better steak for half the price at a place like Chili's or Applebee's.

We dropped in rather accidentally,as we were planning on going to a different steak restaurant, which happened to be closed that night. Our minds already set on steak, we stumbled upon this rustic looking lodge: the design is authentic inside and out, but maybe a little to dark for my taste. I ordered the prime rib.I must admit it was very tender and cooked medium (as ordered), the sides were ok but nothing special (baked potato ,Caesar salad) All in all a fine prime rib. There's two things I have to point out though: First of all, the tasteless, chewy pieces of rubber they are offering as "bread", are a joke. I haven't tasted something similar in a while. Secondly, you don't need to be sommelier or beer expert, but a little bit more information on beverages than reading the menu out loud would be a nice touch.

If you enjoy steak this is not the place. We ordered the Steak Oscar. Even though it was cooked to the right temperature, the flavor was awful. Overly salty, overly seasoned. The crab was dry and flavorless. The complimentary sourdough bread is dry and crumbly. Management was nice enough to remove the price of the crab from our bill. But they should be ashamed offering that meal.

Good food but not great...a place like this should serve KILLER steaks not mediocre steaks. Service was great the decor is soothing and the sides are ok. The steak is pricey and its nothing more then grocery store grade beef! I am a regular here but I grow tired of the lofty prices and the average flavor. This is not a 4 star steak joint.....

Very good local steak house. I host many business diners at Ruby River and I get lots of complements and requests for future visits. The "cheap" steaks are less than $10 and are much better than comparably priced steaks from the national chains.

I've eaten here a couple times and both times the meat (steak or chicken) was forgettable..but the potato was AMAZING! I'm not a fan of baked potatoes..some would say I loath them but they dip the whole potato in some sort of batter and deep fry it and it's so good! Found a hair in my salad one time and my steaks are always overdone so that's why I'm taking a star off.

Me and the wife agree, best steakhouse around. Appetizers are always good and filling(maybe a little too much, lol). Steaks are tender and delicious. Price is what you'd expect for a great meal, not to bad considering the quality. And home made root beer is always a perk.

Last time I was there I had a cheesburger that was awful. Should have stuck with my usual filet mingnon. . It's the music that drives me nuts. They turned it down, but was still loud. I just won't go there again because I don't like shouting to my partner.

this steakhouse looks like it belongs on the slops. the host are useless and you end up waiting for a long time to be seated even with a reso. also don't even bother asking the host any questions on any promotions going on or anything off the menu. they brew their own seasonal beer and root beer. the root beer is the BEST ever and i like root beer. come in a nice frosty glass. the steak is OK. its cooked on a BBQ grill. the fried onion appy is very good. over all decent all around. nothing special feels and taste like a chain steakhouse -hosts are like a deer looking into the high beams of your car -seasonal beer is good -home made root beer is GREAT!! -steak is like a good chain restaurant -cabin like feeling with a Buffalo and moose head as dining decor -BBQ grilled steaks -onion appy is very good -their smashed jacked potato's is nothing special -artichoke dip is OK -potato's graton is good

Ruby River is a busy place as it serves meat-and-potatoes fare. It's a better-than-usual chain restaurant steak dinner if you pony up for one of the pricier cuts. And it's on that basis I'm giving it this rating. If you get many of the lower cost (and smaller portioned) beef entrees -- or chicken or pasta -- then this is an average to below average restaurant. The homemade root beer is a distinct flavor high in wintergreen. It's quite a treat served in the frosty mugs. However, it isn't the most suitable flavor compliment with a good steak dinner. (Take it only with appetizer or dessert.) The beers are a little better fit but Roosters makes better Ogden microbrews. Ruby River once had a homemade ginger beer that was quite the treat, but that is gone now. The "jacketed" (battered and fried) baked yams with butter and cinnamon are a lovely accompaniment. I'd like them better if you got a good vegetable served with your meal, too. You can choose a house salad (and these are routinely mundane) which means no good vegetable comes with dinner if you get a potato or yam. That knocks down the meal rating; It's just not as well-balanced a meal as a nice steak meal should be. But it's still better than average if you stick with a good steak cut. That's pretty similar an approach as other popular local steakhouses like The Timber Mine. I've had friendly and acceptable service here many times so I'm inclined to give Ruby River the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars instead of 3 -- given, of course, you buy a better cut of beef.

My favorite place to go anytime I'm in Utah! Perfectly cooked steaks.

Agreed that the root beer is great, nice kick. Not the best when the paging is pumped through the restaurant and there are three hostesses maning the waiting area. really bad when my sweet potatoe is 3x size or my steak.

The steaks are okay but way over seasoned. Neat looking inside but too dark. If you're going to a chain steak house I'd look for a Texas Road House or a Lone Star.

The steak - excellent. The beer - Utah. If you stick with a pilsner or wheat draft beer in Utah, you can find adequate beer. I ordered the filet (med rare) and it turned out perfect. If I find myself near Ogden again, I will definitely go back here for the steaks.

My favorite stake house in Ogden UT. They have a delicious Rib Eye, and great sides. They also have a great assortment of other entrees, such as sea food and sandwiches to name a few, all of which as amazing as their stakes. They bring out complementary sourdough bread with every meal! Their fresh brewed root beer is great! ***They have gluten free bread on hand, as well as a certified gluten free menu!*** The entire establishment is themed as a mountain lodge. The service is amazing. They aren't perfect (they are only human after all), they have made mistakes from time to time, but they will go out of their way to insure you are taken care of and that ever visit is spectacular! Unfortunately they recently changed their menu and they no longer have their great garlic mashed potatoes. They tasted great and were served dry with melted cheese on top. Now it's mashed potatoes and gravy, and not as good. Over all highly recommended!

The building, inside and out is beautiful. That said I love prime rib, of which I ordered. 25% was grisle, I don't even mind some fat but ya can't eat grisle.not impressed in the least. Sorry.

Skip the appetizer and go for the steak. We had the artichoke dip and it wasn't good. Our salads were way over dressed and the service was very slow. However, the steaks were fantastic and worth the wait. It appears they need to hire more servers and get them some help clearing tables. They were friendly but had too many tables to keep up with.

I had dinner here tonight and the food is okay. The service was good and the pricing is decent in which 7 people were fed for $216 which included tip.

So, went here tonight with an open mind. Let's start out with the fact that my steak was amazing. And now for the bad.... Drink orders were taken, buy no waters or complimentary brand was served. The IPA that I ordered was all out. So, I decided on a glass of Cab. The wine was good, but the pour was far short of the 5oz standard. The salad came out in a timely manner and was par. When my steak came out it looked beautiful... except that it was missing my side of asparagus. After 3-4 minutes my asparagus came out with only 3 measly stalks on the side dish. WTF..... Get your sh*$ together and I will recommend your restaurant.

Delicious food (especially the steak, of course) and excellent service. The homemade Root Beer is great as well. Definitely try the Jacketed Baked Potato; it makes potato skin something you actually want to eat!

I never give one star but my experience here was BAD. Friday night and I don't mind the hour wait bc my friend and I were seated at the bar and had a few drinks. It was not until we were seated, that it went downhill from there. Entrees get two sides each and my date got the pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon and I got the smothered chicken. I ordered both of my sides to be a salad and he ordered his two sides to be asparagus and steak soup. The entrees come out and sides are missing. We had to ask FOUR TIMES for our sides and our waitress said- oh they're ready I just forgot to pick them up. Wtf? Okay.. She brings the side when we are well half way through our meal and the soup and asparagus was cold and my salad was runny and the greens were wilted from having the dressing sit on it for so long. My date only took one bite of the soup and refused to eat the rest. Mind you were half an hour into our meal and she hasn't gotten us WATER or DRINKS. I decided to ask for the THIRD time if we could have some water and my date wanted a beer. She came back to our table and apologized for the constant mess ups but then reveals TMI by telling us - I really have to go to the bathroom.. Well okay we didn't need to know that but can we HAVE OUR FREAKING DRINKS????? Finally - after a horrible meal the bill comes out.. And she screwed up bad by charging us for 3 beers and charged us for ALL FOUR sides.. Sides come with the entree and we only ordered one bill. No wonder our bill looked way too big. After chasing her down, she changes the bill..or so we thought. She takes off the extra two beers but doesn't remove the sides so we needed a new bill.. Wow this experience was so horrible and I'm a patient person and I still tip 20 percent despite the horrible experience I had but I will never come back here. I hope the manager reads this and retrains their staff bc with over 10 mistakes within an hour- that's not acceptable. I don't need to know when my waiter wants to use the bathroom or admit that our food is done and she just forgot to pick it up.

Took my mother here the Saturday before Mothers Day. Very disappointing! The staff was clearly engrossed in a drama and the tension was obvious. They have half of us lunch menus and then told us we couldn't order off of the lunch menus. The waitress came to our table with a bad attitude and seemed annoyed to be serving us. Drinks took over ten minutes to get... And it was actually pretty slow. There were only like 6 tables taken. Skip this place and go to Texas Roadhouse!

I've been here several times during the last few years. It had always been amazing until this last year. The food has gone downhill. The last time I went, I ordered a steak cooked medium. It came out rare. I sent it back and it came back within a couple of minutes and then it was well done. The time before I ordered the filet mignon and it was horrible. It was tough, and grisly tasting. I'm wondering if they had a change in cooks withinthe last year.

HORRIBLE, everything about the visit was horrible. 1st we get there and it was 20 minute wait when it was VERY slow. There was at the most 5 other couples in the restaurant. The food we ordered was NOT good. The coconut shrimp was hard as a rock, the steak was under cooked and the order was wrong. It then took the waitress 15 minutes to check on us after we got our food. The couple beside us had undercooked steak as well. The couple behind us had issues as well with a different waitress. RubyRiver has gone DOWN hill.

We are relatively new to the area and decided to try this place for our anniversary dinner. We made reservations for 430 on a Sunday, so it was relatively empty. We were seated quickly. My first pet peeve, I am not a fan of dark restaurants. I know they are going for an intimate vibe, but I am always leery of places where you can't really see your food. There was a lamp on our table that was filthy and covered in dust. Ugh. They brought out bread. I am not a fan of crunchy crust, but my husband liked it. It came with a strawberry? flavored butter which I did not like. I ordered steak and avocado egg rolls as a starter. It was obvious that it wasn't made fresh, it came out very fast and the inside was lukewarm. They tasted good, but we were a little put off that they didn't make it fresh. My husband ordered filet mignon and I ordered ribeye. My steak was a bit salty, but cooked right. It came with a baked potato that seemed to be coated with some breading and deep fried. I wasn't a fan. The breading has a sweet taste and the inside wasn't cooked through. The sautéed mishrooms were tasty though. My husbands filet mignon came out practically raw. He ordered medium. The inside was practically blue and cold to the touch. So he sent it back. They brought back the same piece of meat which was now well done. My husband was not happy. They offered to make it again, but he was fed up by now. His sides were mashed potatoes and fries. Both were average. For dessert, we had the cookie. The middle of it was a bit raw tasting. Our waiter was friendly and prompt. We expected more from them for the claims of Utah's best steak. Overall, we were disappointed and will not be back.

I have only been to ruby river once but the one time I went it was really good. Their steak is really good but the best thing is their sweet potatoes.

Steak quality declined in a hurry since I've been here over 8 months ago.. What used to be succulent prime rib that was so tender you could literally eat without teeth is now equivalent in texture to jack links beef jerky only not dried..I really can't think of a better way of explaining the thick ropes of muscles that bonded together like that. Did like the new steak avocado egg rolls however. Half rack still decent though I'm inclined to think the ribs are cooked elsewhere and warmed on-site. I guess if it works for good wood and others why not ruby river. Used to really like this establishment and went at least monthly, now not so much. Quality does not reflect the steeper price point for eating here. Next please!

Uh hello! Can you say fried baked potatoes?? I nearly fell out of my seat! I love eating the skin off baked spuds and I adored these. Came here for a hosted dinner so can't complain about the price of my prime rib. I don't eat it that often, so can't really say that it was out of this world either. However, it was BIG!

After what started out roughly -- the doors to inside are poorly marked and the layout is frankly odd -- we made out way inside and were seated. The server then proceeded to card both of my business lunch guests, despite all of us being at least double the drinking age minimum (one was probably closer to triple). This would normally result in an immediate deduction for embarrassing me, but fortunately, they chose the spot. Still...extremely tacky choice on her part, when all of us were obviously of age and it made things very awkward. She claimed this was the restaurant policy and if so, they should immediately revisit this. It's not like some kid is going to a relatively expensive place like this and try to tag drinks 1 pint of beer at a time and the downside can be no repeat business. Anyway, that aside, this things started off in a hole, both of which could somewhat easily have been avoided. From there, we ordered the calamari, which was quite good and crispy. Dipping sauces could have been better, though. The iced tea I had was also pretty decent, though the mug was filled to the top with ice prior to any tea going in. It was not good enough that it did not need sugar, however, they had In The Raw packets, so good there. For the lunch, we had the prime rib sandwiches. This place has a somewhat limited lunch menu, consisting mainly of sandwiches, though there are some salads and pasta dishes also. I went with the jacketed sweet potato, which is the only side worth having, in my view. All of the food was decent, though I could have used the prime rib being closer to medium and slicked a lot thinner than the slab that was placed on my somewhat burnt toast. If I was rating the food alone, it would have been a 3 star rating and ended there. One odd thing is that the lunch menu is definitely portioned down, but the desserts aren't, so if you order one, know you're getting a full-on regular dessert and Ruby River likes to do them huge. I had samples of what was ordered and thought they both were ok, but I typically don't order dessert and neither is inclined to make me change my mind. Why this gets a 4 is the server (I won't name wait staff in reviews, but her initial starts with "M.") did an excellent job redeeming herself and turned in one of the best performances after the weirdness of the whole carding thing. I wouldn't say she was the best wait staff I've ever had -- the best would not have done such a thing at all -- but her timing was impeccable and she did an excellent job of knowing when to stay away. She left me a carafe of iced tea on the table, but I never touched it, as she always made sure to return when my glass was lowering and move it the 6 inches from where she left it on the table to my glass and filled it for me. The extra star is for her digging this place out of the hole they started in and for doing such a stellar job. Still, when lunches start hovering up with this kind of cost, it makes it difficult to choose this as any kind of spot that I would show up to with any regularity and I'm frankly not sure I would want to go through all that weirdness again, making up for it or not. Not taking anything away from her comeback, but it's better not to start in a hole at all. Any returns here are definitely maybes...

The food in General is okay. My top sirloin steak was a bit salty, but the mashed potatoes were really good! The service is slow, considering it wasn't that busy. I am going to say the best thing about the this place is the appetizers (especially the Bill Colby Wings) and the bread pudding (if you like bread pudding).

I've eaten here twice and both times they have been forgettable. The first time I had the salmon with the baked potato and steamed veggies. The salmon was pretty good...a bit overcooked for my taste though. The baked potato was interesting. It appeared to be fried or something. I didn't eat it. The steamed veggies were scarce on the plate and cold. The beer, Evolution Amber was good. The most recent time was last wednesday. I ordered the fish and chips. Good news is the fish was a good sized filet, but the ruined it with the batter. Both filets had pockets of undercooked batter that burst and made the meal very sour tasting. The fries were good, the house salad good. The coleslaw was bitter. Again, the Evolution Amber was good. I won't be going back.
