Really good ice cream. Tasted sooooo good! It's super busy but they have this back door up a small flight of stairs outside that takes you to another ice cream counter in an attached like candy shop. It's not crowded at all and I didn't wait at all. I'm in town visiting from California and I did get quite a few stares when I walked in with a group of 3 other Hispanics. Ice cream deserves 5 stars and of course the look and feel of the place is adorable!

So many flavors and really great ice cream in a beautiful location!

Great creamy ice cream. Great staff. Great selection. Don't forget to grab a number when you go in, or you'll look like a huge idiot after waiting around for 10 minutes.

Lots of flavors, some super tasty (bear claw!) and all pretty good. When the store is quiet, it's great and you can sample a bunch. However, it gets very crowded and you may be waiting a long time for a simple scoop. The back room is faster, but they don't have as many flavors there. The prices are a bit high although the scoops are huge.

If you want great ice cream, this is the place. There is extremely limited space and seating, so plan on going back outside or eating in your car. I've always gotten friendly service and even when it's packed, you don't usually have to wait long. Don't forget to grab a number! Prices aren't as bad as some say, we got ice cream for a family of 5 for about $15.

The nostalgia factor is ridiculously high here. What an adorable little ice cream shop with historic roots. It gets crazy busy, even at of peak hours. Come in and ran a number and wait to order while perusing old fashioned sodas and candies for sale. There is an annex located upstairs and down the bios king a little ways that is an "express" counter. They had the top 20 or so flavored available and no line and the tables and chairs were stinking cute and retro. I loved it up there. For me, while I enjoyed the atmosphere and the experience, I could not enjoy the ice cream. This place is a cross contamination nightmare for people with nut allergies, as they use the same scoop for all the flavor and just dunk it in a community water container to rinse in between. They have a ton of nutty flavors, with a burnt almond fudge being one they are famous for. They have lots of non-nut ice creams as well, but I couldn't risk it. My family loved it, though. The scoops are huge and only a couple of bucks.

Was there today for Chocolate chip single. Fantastic texture, with those little ice crystals in the ice-cream. It is SOOOOOOOO good. My girlfriend had Spumoni and as always it is the best flavor on the planet. Farrs is worth any drive, at any time, any reason and who cares if it makes me fat. Oh, did I just say that out loud?

    (5)
  • Nicole F.

Yep, this is a good ice cream joint. tons of flavors, and it tastes fresh. The Like Rickey and Play-Doh are my favorites. I've tried the Farrs ice cream in the tubs, but it's not as good as going to the actual store.

Love the icecream could Do without the poor service. An older lady helped me and was awful. She clearly doesn't like her job. She handed me a huge cone after telling me I couldn't get only one scoop ( since when?) and then I asked for a cup to put it in to get my money out since I was alone and it wouldn't fit in their holder because she made it do big, and she said "you can try but we charge another $1.50 for the cup" yeah for an empty cup. I'm never going there again and am going to share this experience with everyone I know.

This simple shop started almost a hundred years ago, right here in Ogden! The factory is right behind the shop and is still family owned. Best ice cream around. Skip Baskin Robins and sub zero, their overrated. This place has what your looking for to treat you with that home town feel. The ice cream is fantastic and the parlor employees are like friendly neighbors. What more could you ask for? Shorter lines? Why is it so busy all the freakin time!? Oh yeah, did I forget to tell you that THEIR ICE CREAM IS THE BEST!

Farr's is simply the best. I remember someone telling me that I had to try some aggie ice cream once because they said it was better than Farr's. Obviously that person has been curb stomped a few too many times because they aren't even in the same realm. Aggie ice cream really is pure, unadulterated crap. Do yourself a favor, go to Farr's, it's terrific. If you're having trouble deciding which flavor to try, may I suggest Spumoni. It will make you happy inside.

If you are looking for a scoop ice cream or ice cream on a cone.. This is the place, there only 4 tables and it gets full fast. Not recommend for kids cause this place is small. Don't expect to much cause this isn't A ice cream parlor.

I like this place but I feel like you get a little bit of ice cream for alit of money. You may as well buy a pint for the same price. It is fun to go to after visiting the temple though.

First time I tried this place I had a friend in town and we were looking for some ice cream after a long day of hiking. They had a long line and we waited a bit, but it was well worth it. The ice cream was delicious and everyone was very nice. My friend said she wants to come back to Utah just to have this ice cream again!

Maybe I just don't get it. Sure there's the vintage signage (really cool at night), counters, tables, and vintage ticketing system. But there's a spectrum between classic and just old. Vintage is just a period of time until flavored with nostalgia. I don't know what a real soda fountain is like. They were long gone when I was a kid. So Farr Better Ice Cream didn't have any particular charm or ambiance for me. As a Californian, I don't have any childhood memories of coming here to enjoy the surroundings. I had a decent dollop of berry cheesecake ice cream in a giant waffle cone. One of my coworkers got a order that was mostly flavorless. Maybe a manufacturing error out back. The ice cream isn't bad, though there's nothing to elevate it from its peers in Coldstone Creamery or Baskin Robbins. The best ice cream is from Thrifty's Drug Stores. But maybe that's my own nostalgia talking.

Ice cream flavors you would only dream of, I'm from Albuquerque but when in town visiting family, this is the first place we go. They have a ice cream with Keebler chocolate covered graham crackers, my favorite. My brothers girlfriend loves the black licorice, definitely worth the time if you can make it and love ice cream.

  • Chandler A.

I absolutely love Farr Better Ice Cream! They have so many different flavors to choose from. I always have a hard time deciding when I go. There aren't many good places to get ice cream in Utah and I am so glad I finally found one. I wish I could make it there more often than I do. I love their waffle cones and I'm never disappointed!

  • Kevin F.

We hit this place after riding the front runner from Salt Lake. It's awesome. The ice cream is really good and the portions are huge. Two people can split one scoop. I like this location better than the one off Washington. The place gets busy at certain times of the day. Make sure you get a number if it's busy.

    (4)
  • Kevin C.

The best ice cream you can have. There are more flavors then baskin bins 31. The hot fudge sundae is one of the greatest treats you can have there. There is an ice cream called play dough it is what play dough would taste like if it was sweet.

  • Alex V.

We ordered malts and it took, literally 30 minutes to make ICE CREAM! I could make ice cream from scratch in less time (including the time it would take to purchase the livestock at auction) When we got our order it tasted like incompetence with a hint of ineptitude!! Farr better? NAY! FARR TOO SLOW!

Great ice cream. Was really refreshing on a 100+ degree day! They have so many flavors to choose from that I went the boring route and got vanilla frozen yogurt :) They seem to get pretty busy so allow for some time in line. It will be worth it!

I pass this place on my way home from work every day and I'd stop every day except I'd turn into a melted puddle of ice cream. The giant waffle cones are fresh tasting, not old like most places. It's one of the only places were they serve the great root beer flavor. I'd wait in those lines and take a stupid number from their waiting list every time if it means that I can have root beer flavored ice cream.

I was just beyond happy to come across this ice-cream shop!! A lovely sunset, a mint chocolate chip milkshake and a stroll around Ogden was just what I wanted! The reason I took off a star you ask?? ... Well I'll tell you... The service wasn't great. They have a ticket service but they are sooo slow to serve that if your number was due to be called next you could probably drive home, put on the kettle, grab a cup of tea and be back in time to order your ice cream. Other than that, it's worth the wait!

    (4)
  • Mark A.

I love this place. It has that old fashioned ice cream shop feel to it. And of course Farr's is some of the best ice cream out there. The only reason i took a star off was because of the wait. There were alot of people in there, and it was a bit hectic so sort of confusing on who was actually next.

Ice cream here is AMAZING, but you're very cramped inside, people stepping on people. There's no room for the crowds that are always there.

A quintessential ice cream stop when in Ogden. This family business has great ice cream in tons of wonderful flavors. The building is great fun. It just has that old-time ice cream parlor feel....which can be a bit of a disadvantage when trying to find a place to sit and relax and enjoy your cone. It's generally very crowded (especially on a hot summer afternoon or evening) so be sure to grab a number from the wall. The employees are usually very friendly and personable though sometimes a bit harried due to the number of customers they try to keep happy. The price is a little high when compared with other chains, but for the ambiance and the variety of quality flavors, I'm willing to pay a little extra.

Wednesday evening was so nice, on a whim, we drove over the hill to Ogden for some Farr Better Ice Cream. Located in the Historic Downtown district, this place is one of the COOLEST ice cream parlours I have ever been to. Everything is ORIGINAL VINTAGE! Hasn't changed a bit since the place opened. Good old fashioned neon signage, iron tables, interior decor, REAL hard ice cream, and all the kids working there were wearing the cute paper soda jerk hats! Unfortunately, along with the vintage GOODness, we also witnessed some SHAMEFUL old fashioned racism. The chubby teenage boy behind the counter was serving a Hispanic family just ahead of us. When the father used a $100 bill to pay-for $30 something worth of ice cream- the kid made a show of carefully inspecting the bill (fine, anyone in retail is required to do this) but then his face showed the most obvious look of disgust in regards to the family. I was floored!!! This kind of blanket prejudice is something that can likely be blamed on bad parenting. However, in a place of business, that kind of response to a customer is unacceptable! Overall- Great Summer Treat, awesome Local Business, but that kid needs to be fired.

Oh Farr's ice cream. With your bad service and mediocre/expensive ice cream. I rate 2 stars for nostalgic purposes, since I went to the high school that's not even a stones throw away from you. This place would be sooo much better if the service didn't suck so bad. It's always been that way. If they bothered to hire friendly staff that cared about the ice cream and knew the history of the place, that would be cool. But alas, a bunch of teeny boppers who would rather talk to their friends than take your order. And they REALLY like to talk to their friends when the place is PACKED with people. The fudge is pretty good though. I do recommend that.

Awww memories! I've gone to this place since I was a kid and I love it! We always went after going to the Ogden Temple which is right across the road. The staff of high school seniors are usually pretty nice and with so many options of how you want this delicious ice cream everyone will be satisfied. My favorite is a signature Ogden flavor called the Raptor Ripple (named after the baseball team) and turns your entire mouth blue but has a great flavor. With an ice cream shop that sells any flavor you can imagine (even black licorice) and has such a part of Ogden's history ingrained..what's not more to love.

Old fashioned ice cream shop/soda fountain style kind of place. I guess they have grown into a much larger company now, but this is the original spot and it appears that their ice cream factory is right adjacent. Also it seems that they have started franchising. There were a ton of flavors to choose from, luckily there was a huge lineup (Mormon temple is about a block away, and it seems that we caught the Saturday night post-temple crowd because that place was jammed with super-friendly families who were all dressed up) because it took us a while to decide. My kids had something that tasted like grape koolaid...it was kind of awesome. I had something with caramel in it and it was absolutely decadent. Their ice cream was very rich and sweet and creamy and yummy. Did not taste at alll mass-produced even though they do probably make a ton of the stuff. Definitely hit the spot after a long, hot, jam-packed travel day....made everybody happy just in time to get back in the car and drive a bunch more...

I adore this place, i love anything vintage and the retro music and adorable outfits makes me feel right at home. Even though i browse forever i usually choose mint ice cream so i haven't really ventured off that path yet but...the scoops are huge there faces are friendly and the decor is cute.

    (5)
  • Chris G.

The ice cream is great. But does anyone remember the Seinfeld episode titled, ''Soup Nazi''? Well when this place is busy that is how you will be treated. Hence the three stars. Also prepare to get the ice cream to go because there is nowhere to sit.

Old fashion ice cream shop. Tons of Flavors but try them before you get them. Cherry choco chip was awesome! Huge scoops and great prices. Can't beat it. Just a wee bit off the beaten path but for sure worth the effort to get there.

Great selection of froyo, custard and ice cream, with plenty of toppings! Plus, they have a daily promo thing where you draw a card from a deck, certain cards give you free ice cream or a few bucks off. I prefer this place to Menchies or Orange Leaf

When in Rome So this is some amazing ice cream Come on a warm summer evening and you will find many of the locals here. Want to go for it, do the waffle cone. Strange all the reviews are from Californians, if your in SLC check out the iceburg

Love the ice cream at this place! It's almost always crowded, but that's to be expected. They have a lot of flavors (probably 50) and the ambiance is that of an old-time ice cream parlor.

Old school ice cream parlor This place is the real deal -- an ice cream parlor that's been scooping up tasty treats since 1929 and has the decor to match. My ice cream flavors were delicious and their giant sign is amazing too! Thanks Jake for taking us there!

I was so excited to go to this quaint little ice cream shoppe, especially after all of the positive reviews I read about it. When we arrived, there was a line and it made me even more excited to see what all of the fuss was about. Upon arriving, we waited our turn by checking out the ice cream case to see what looked good. After standing there a few minutes, one of the employees called out a number. I was confused because I saw no signs or information regarding taking a number before you would be waited on. However, once the employee realized there was no one before me, she took my order. After discovering they were out of the flavor I chose, she unapologetically said, "We are out of that." And proceeded to stare at me while I quickly tried to pick a second choice. After paying, she did not say thank you. She just handed me my change and went on her way. I think it's a shame to get such poor service, especially when you are in a old-fashioned ice cream shoppe. I also felt like the prices were a little steep. It was $3.79 for a double scoop cone. The ice cream itself was mediocre at best. I've had way better out of a grocery store freezer. But they did have a large selection. And the atmosphere is as if you stepped back in time (at least until you are waited on). Bottom line: We won't visit this store again.

Farr's is some good ice cream! Even though it was very cold outside, my brother went to Farr's and brought me one of the best Mint n Chip Ice Cream Shake.
