Javier's is ok but not great. Many people around here rav about it but I've never been especially impressed. They have a quesadilla that I really like but it's the only thing I ever order. Everything else I've tried has been ok but nothing to get excited about. I prefer Garcia's in Layton for Mexican. It's not authentic but they have an interesting variety and there are a few things on their menu that I really love. Shrimp Fundido, Shrimp Ajo Grill and the Tampico Stuffed Chicken are really delicious if not authentic.

This will be my first bad review on yelp. I am pretty easy to please and this place has burned me for the last time. Food is average, portions are small for the price and you would definitely expect more from a "hole in the wall place" but the customer service is where they really tank. I generally consider myself a nice person but for reals this place is staffed and owned by retards. It's mildly annoying that they have a giant "Specials" board and they even take the time to change it yet there's no discount on the items, the items are always available and nothing is seasonal. So what is special about the items on the specials board? Nothing. But really what gets me is when I ask for something extra and I say I don't care what it costs that's what I want that they can't fulfill my simple request. And I don't mean like I'm requesting them to cook Chinese food, I mean like for example today when I order take out and I ask for extra chips for the giant guacamole I just ordered. I say I don't care what it cost I just ordered $14 in guacamole and I want my husband and I to have enough chips some charge me $10 for all I care just some extra chips. And I get a smaller portion than what you would normally get with a take out order. I just looked at the girl, smiled and left. There is no point in arguing with stupidity. I hope I save one person from making the mistake of giving this place a chance. I have given them 4 chances and it has always turned out badly. TLDR; they suck, take your business elsewhere.

Bad reviews and ended up there by default. The salsa was good and the chili verde burrito was good. The place is run down but food was actually really good

I wish there was a negative rating for this place. First time, ever, I have refused to pay for food at a restaurant. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, how can you mess that up? Apparently it CAN be done. I wouldn't recommend this place if it was the only restaurant open. I found it interesting that they have advertised the restaurant as "authentic". HA. If colby-jack cheese in a quesadilla is authentic, then maybe.

Been there two times. First time no one was there to take order & I walked out. Second time service was poor and quality of food was poor for money paid. I would've preferred spending money at a fast food place. Waitress gave me wrong change but wasn't worth asking for correct change. There are much better Mexican places to eat around here. :-(

Moved here from living in California for 12 yrs. I was told by my realtor that this place is amazing. He kept harping on how authentic and good they were. Decided to finally try it. Holy cow, this is not authentic. This is the most bland Mexican food I have ever had. If you want something with flavor, go to Beto's or Rancheritos. They are much better choices, and actually have some flavor, skip Cafe Rio, and Javier's.

Had tomales. Disgusting. Looked like a microwave tv dinner entree. Del Taco has better Mexican food than this place.

I have enjoyed eating at Javiers for many years. We go mostly to the one off Wall Ave. Great food. When they opened the one in Layton we tried it a half dozen times and each time was a disappointment when compared to the Wall ave location. Specifically the burritos, taco salad and the fiesta salad. They are suppose to have shredded beef. and there is almost none and very little lettuce. Wont eat at this location again.

Love javiers but this location was horrible. Burrito was suppose to have meat in it. Full of rice. Asked for additional chips and received 5 extra. Horrible service. Other locations are great. Love the one in farmington/kaysville

My first impression of this place is the "Authentic" wording on their sign, which turn out to be a complete lie. The ambience of this place feels like a very low class restaurant with low quality tables and chairs, some of the chairs were slightly dirty too. They did use an interesting method to serve the starter chips, which I saw like 50 of them were already sitting in a basket on a big table, it makes me wonder whether they have an assembly setup in the kitchen. The waitress that served our table was somewhat helpful. Their menu did not look anything close to an authentic Mexican restaurant, since most of their ingredients revolve around Americanize food such as cheese. As for the food, everyone ordered something different in our table, but all of our dishes came to be similar with a slight variant in meat. The word to describe food is that they resemble microwave food: dry, frozen taste, and bland. If we did not ask for extra sauces, I did not think any of us could finish our meals. This is definitely a place I would never come back to unless there is change in management and staff. Maybe if I'm in the mood for overpriced microwave food.

Nothing new here, portions were small, refired beans from the can. Eat at banditos, same price way better food.

Meh. Eat here if you're desperate for average Mexican grub. It's no Red Iguana.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
