If you like microwaved food this place is best for you. Upon my visit I had the beef enchiladas hubby had chicken ones. The rice was crunchy, beans somewhat okay but runny, plate pipping hot meaning it just came right out of a microwave. Kitchen staff should stay in the kitchen and not be walking in and out scamming on women while working get booty on your own time, we don't need sleazy guys winking at us when eating, women staff too. chicken in the enchiladas was rubbery and hard meaning it was cooked over and one again before that. My kitchen ware had to be replaced as their was food stuck on it. The drinks were awesome! But that is it. Authentic far from it. Mediocre Mexican restaurant.

SO painfully slow. Stopped by for a "quick" lunch and we were there for over an hour. The food had obviously been sitting under light for a very long time since it was dried out and extremely hot plates. It'll be a while before we dare to try it again.

Gordon Ramsey desperately needs to revamp this place!! Food was a C+ at best! My kids Mini chimis look perfectly rolled clearly coming out of frozen packaging. The wife took 3 bites of her meal and was done. Waiter didn't even bother to ask if there was an issue. Yea! There's an issue, taste bland as shit. The only reason this place survives is because it's near a base and locals in Layton wouldn't know any better. To the owner; with all due respect I understand you're located in Layton where people wouldn't know any better but have some pride in your food. You should be embarrassed.

I'm stumped. The food was off the charts bad. Stale, flavorless, feebly plated, and over priced. I'm stumped becuase this was the hardest review I have written. The manager was nice to comp us, but we still have a nasty taste in our mouths. There are better options in the area. Just keep driving.

Pretty good food. Nothing mind blowing. It's super busy on a Friday night. Had the steak and chicken fajitas. The steak was really good.

Amazing food and service. I love their salsa's and beans with chips. Everything I have tried there has been delicious. Over the top service and food.

I have visited Garcia's several times and I drive 35 miles to go because the food is decent and good price. But NOT happy that bean dip is not included with To Go orders even though the price is exactly the same for dining in or take out. I will think twice before I order food To Go for our parties.

Anytime we have been here, we have never been disappointed! We love the salsa and beans served with fresh chips. Although the servers always ask "are you sure you want alcohol in your margarita?" Umm, duh! We are in Utah I guess. Great food and great service!

Read as 3.5 stars: This is the part of the same Garcia's restaurant "chain" that I grew up with in Phoenix. Not as good as Macayo's (for those who know PHX) but yes, yes -you can get a cheese crisp! My husband and I had dinner here with Toni's brother (my favorite uncle) Jim, on our second visit to the area. He was gracious enough to come here even though as a local to the area, he knows of better Mexican food. We had a great waiter who got really excited when he learned we were from the Bay Area and though he did overshare about his personal life, he was the one who clued me in on the alcohol rules in Utah after I told him my margarita was weaksauce. We all had something different and were all relatively pleased with our meals. We lingered and talked for a long time (something that often happens with Jim and I) and I will say that while I was excited to have a "real" cheesecrisp, it was a tad undercooked.

Decent salsa, and food. But great dessert! Get the chocolate chimis. Very tasty, and plenty big so you can share with your group.

The Garcia's in Layton has been there for many years, 15+ would be my guess. They rarely seem busy so I do not know how they stay in business. I have been to Garcia's many times, it is one of my alternate Mexican restaurants when I want something different from the places I normally go, so I end up here once or twice a year. One thing I really like about Garcia's is the option to build your own combo with 1, 2, or 3 entree items and rice and beans. This last trip to Garcia's was pretty disappointing, service was mediocre and the food was very bland, I had the 2 item combo with a beef enchilada and a Chili Verde burrito. The Chili Verde had no flavor and was light on meat and overall fillings so I ended up with a 3 inch section of tortilla and nothing else. The beef enchilada was a disgrace, again bland as can be and all the cheese was in a big glob on one side of the enchilada, not melted, obviously they roll them in advance and cook them off, not good, how hard is it to make an enchilada to order? The thing the wife and I liked most was the chips, thin and crispy seemed like homemade with a good flavor. The hot sauce they provided for the chips was very mild, I would prefer more heat, and the bean dip was not very good.

Oh my gosh I am so full!! Kaleb our waiter made sure to check back with us during the feast. Everything tasted better than all the other times I've been here. You should definitely come by Garcias and dine with Kaleb as your server. You won't be displeased.

If you're looking for a good time with good drinks... Go anywhere but here. And the food... I'll tell you this much, the tap water tastes the best. Youll start with a water down 3/4 shot maragarita made of high fructose corn syrup followed by a cold basket of stuck together chips. The food is far less than mediocre and the service is pretty terrible as well. The food, when it actually does come out on a mere slow Wednesday night is toppled with cream cheese and flavorless. If you are looking for something fresh, fun, and dependable keep on driving. What a disgrace.

We were staying in Layton from the Chicago area and drove by this place and thought it looked good. Sure wish I had done some research online before trying. This was probably the worse Mexican restaurant I have even been to. The bean/cheese dip served with the chips & salsa should have been a clue to the rest of the meal. It had no flavor and was a thick mess, it tasted like it was thickened with flour. The other clue to the impending bad experience was the fact that there were no Mexicans working there...and I'm guessing none in the kitchen either. In the Chicago area, Mexican restaurants employ Mexican people, even way out in the suburbs where we live & dine at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. And the best places around here are NOT chains. My husband ordered one shredded beef taco & it looked like the entire thing was tossed into the deep fryer. He asked for it to be replaced with just a corn or flour soft tortilla. When this taco was served, it looked like the tortillas (2 of them for 1 taco) were dipped in grease or oil. The shredded beef looked like tuna fish - we both tried it & it did not taste good at all. He also wanted the taco topped with onion & cilantro only, but it had a mound of chopped onion on it (maybe to disguise the blob of unappetizing beef). He sent it back & it was taken off our bill. I had chicken enchiladas, which were swimming in cheddar cheese (where was the yummy Mexican Chihuahua cheese or otherwise?). The chicken was shredded, not much of it & I really couldn't taste it due to the river of cheese. I ate it because I was hungry. I also dumped my black beans on top of it for flavor, since those were not bad. The rice was dry like it had been microwaved several times. We didn't order refried beans since our server said we probably wouldn't like them if we didn't like the bean dip. Our server (who I believe was of Asian decent) was very sweet & was trying so hard, there just wasn't much she could do about the food.

The food is great, and Jude the waiter is the best server I've ever had! He's very polite and friendly and made our experience very enjoyable!

Finally a Mexican restaurant in Utah that knows how to make a margarita. Oh and the food is also great. Chips and salsa and margarita as big as my head. I'm in heaven.

This place is AMAZING! Definitely tied with Gecko's for the best bean and cheese burrito that I've ever had! The tortillas here are heavenly, and the beans are delicious! I hate salsa, but Garcia's does a pretty good job. If I'm not in the mood for salsa, they also offer re fried beans for an appetizer. This earns them major bonus points. Sadly, Garcia's is no where near my house! Any trip to Garcia's is a major treat.

I'm from Sandy and am a big fan of La Frontera, but figured I should find a local Mexican restaurant as my husband and I moved to Layton several months ago. So we decided to try Garcia's one night. They gave us warm tortilla chips, warm cheesy bean dip, and some salsa. They were very good at refilling the chips and dips. I think I became addicted to their cheesy bean dip. My husband and I each ordered, and our food came out piping hot and delicious! I ordered the El Magnifico Platter (beef chimichangas, beef taco, cheese enchilada and chicken burrito, served with spanish rice and refried beans). It was delicious. The portion was large and of course I couldn't eat all, or even half of it, and so I got two meals out of it. The taco was an authentic Mexican taco, not the kind you get for a dollar at Taco Bell. The cost for that was $12, so right on par with other sitdown restaurants. We've been back several times, and always enjoy it. Sometimes service is a little slower, but we've never been disappointed.

I really don't like this place. The Mexican food is just not that good. The service was really good but it could not make up for the food. The only reason I would go here is if a family member requests it for a birthday dinner.

About the worst "Mexican" food I have ever had. There was 3 tiny pieces of meat in and on my chili verde burrito. For the price they could have put some more in, plus the pieces were small and had chunks of fat on them. Food was totally taste less. Never again ever!!!

  • Lo J.

I love Mexican food, but I guess all the hype I've heard about this place made me think it was good...The chips were basic, tasted like they warmed up something frito lay made. The salsa was pretty good, but the bean dip was not impressive. I had a small chicken enchilada and the meat was slightly dry and there wasn't much of a taste to them. The rice had a weird aftertaste. My girlfriend ordered beer on tap and she couldn't even drink it because she said it was bad. She liked her Quesadilla, but I don't think I will ever return unless I have no say in what we eat.

We love Garcia's. I go with my kids usually once a week. The staff has always been nice and professional. The food is good though not authentic mexican. I love their nachos. I always feel like a valued customer there.

We go here fairly often due to the kids eat free nights. I've never had a bad meal. Its not stand out amazing but its not awful. I LOVE the fajitas. Honestly probably the best I've had. My husband tried the tilapia pacifico and really enjoyed it. I love free chips and salsa! The salsa was amazing tonight. Soooo good. Its had not so good moments but tonight it was at the top of its game. The bean dip isn't too bad either. Prices are fair, portions are big. Gotta love a free kids meal! Not a bad place for a bite to eat.

I had the opportunity to visit here for lunch with a few co-workers the other day. Before I came here I actually drove past them countless times, since they are located just off the I-15 exit and they have always had a catchy white banner that says "Kids Eat Free" on the outside. They started us with tortilla chips plus four types of salsa upon request. There were mild, bean paste, hot, and "churn" hot. The mild sauce is negligible. The bean paste and hot were ok. The "churn" hot sauce was good. But the chips were waaaaaay too salty! I felt I like I ate a spoon full of salt at one point. I ordered the Lite Grilled Chicken Flautas and others got the enchiladas and burritos. When my plate arrives, it was extremely hot, which felt like it just came out of the oven or microwave. The chicken inside tasted as old and dried as my grandma's skin. The beans were ok. Other dishes look somewhat mediocre as well, the texture looked like a pile of melted mush, and the feedback I got from them was taste of microwave food. After taking a look at their site, I guess they are a cross-state restaurant chain, so maybe my expectation should not be too high for the Garcia's. But honestly, if I ever felt like eating this genre of Mexican food again, I would rather go to Café Rio or something. There are definitely better restaurants in this area.

Great food and excellent prices! We ate here 10 years ago and it was delicious. Nothing has changed. Except, the very upgraded decor. Well done! There were 6 in our party (2 very picky kids.) Great job! Our waitress (Amber) did an excellent job with us. Great job! If you are wanting to see how a professional and courteous waitress acts call this young lady. She was always there for refills, More chips and was always polite... We left her a really well deserved tip... We will eat here again.

Food was average with average prices. However the service I had tonight was above expectations, my server was very attentive from the time I sat down till I left my table. I would return here mainly because of her, Guami was her name. If your ever here ask to sit in her section and you will not be let down from service. I was in at 7:30 on a Thursday evening and the place was empty. Maybe I should have taken that as a warning and gone somewhere else but I was in the mood for a Mexican dinner, I had the sizzling fajitas, the meal was tasty but not memorable as a standout.

Tonite I ordered the Steak & Shrimp. Last time I ordered my steak medium rare. My steak was cooked medium well. Tonite I asked my steak cooked rare hoping for medium. I got well done. I know this is a mexican restaurant and perhaps this is what I get for ordering surf n turf. The salsa tonight was not as good as I've had in the past. Disappointed to say the least.

Not anything special, really. I went there for Cinco de Mayo, they were packed. I waited 25 minutes for a table, which I suppose is not bad for that day of the year. I had a combo platter with a bean tostada, a green chili pork burrito, and a chicken-chipotle enchilada. The green chili pork was great, the others were okay. My meal with a soda came to about $20 with tip. Sort of on the expensive side for Mexican food of this calibre. I probably won't go back, as there are a lot of Mexican places to choose from here.

If I could give no stars I would. I would rather go down on another man then go to taco bell before eating at Garnastys again. Salsa...crap. If I wanted pace salsa I would've went to the store myself. Those chips were so rubbery I could've blown a bubble with it. When it snows again just go to Garcia's and get some chips and throw them on your driveway. That would melt the acne of a high school teen real quick. Everyone in there looked miserable. Kids eat free Tuesday and Sunday because no one in there right mind would take their children there. If you're reading this and your like "hey I take my children there..." respect your children more. I've had better Mexican food outside of a Home Depot...And that's not racist...ever been to Texas taco carts everywhere. The nachos were microwaved. The sour cream was extra sour. Who knows what that "guac" was...I just moved to Utah and it has been great until I came to eat here. You know a restaurant is bad if you can hear the lyrics clearly...in the bar area. Crap. If I wanted to listen to Cher I'd dress as a woman and drag somewhere in salt lake. Crap.

My husband and I needed a Mexican fix and decided to try this restaurant. We were not disappointed. We arrived at 6:00 on a Friday night and got a table right away. Our waitress, April, was friendly and knowledgeable; she was able to give us recommendations as well. We tried the fish tacos and chicken enchiladas with poblano sauce, but the best by far were the regular chicken enchiladas. So much flavor! We will definitely be back soon.

I agree with the earlier review by William. Jude is an excellent server! Garcias needs to hold on to him like grim death, and give that man a raise! We were hoping he would be our server again tonight, but no such luck. Our server was Shawn. He struggled a little in the early going, but in his defense his area was really getting slammed. We made the mistake of sticking with water tonight. We were rewarded with kiddie sized glasses and one pitcher of water, which was quickly emptied and not so quickly refilled. The food, however, was excellent. No complaints from anybody in our group.

I love the chips and salsa! And bean dip! Soooo good. Also, the chicken enchiladas are delicious. Not typically crowded in this restaurant, so that's good. Great service. Great food. Thank you Garcias!!!

Very nice place! Clean restaurant with fresh food and very tasty! It was a little busy however we had great service! We had the flautas, chicken taco salad and a combo platter! They provide chips and salsa and we ordered guacamole on the side. It was very good, not too spicy!

Our family's favorite mexican restaurant, I'm not exaggerating. I can't count how many times we have been here, but it's great every time. Starting with the chips, salsa and bean dip. Make sure you ask for both, the two hot salsas or you just get mild! I have been here for lunch many many times just as I have for dinner and the food and service is excellent. I wish I had some pictures to go along with my review, anyway, go here and enjoy. I've ordered a variety of items and I've never been disappointed like other mexican restaurants I've visited. My mom has been here too, she lives in Oregon and a very picky eater and she loves it also. We've been here twice in two weeks! Yummy

We went on a night where our kids eat free so that was a great bonus. I think it is on Tuesday nights. This food was pretty good, a pretty standard Mexican food fare. They have good chips and salsa and good beans and rice but their meat was a little dry and flavorless.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
