Overall a great place to eat! The service was great and the food came out very fast. I definitely recommend the burnt ends as an appetizer! They have a great selection of appetizers, pineapple, mac and cheese, Wilbur beans, and mashed potatoes are all great! They have several flavors of bbq sauce and range from sweet to spicy. Their ribs were a little smaller than I like, however fair price for the quality! They have many seating options, and a great drink selection. They can get busy but they do a great job at getting food out to their guests.

Always a winner! Never been disappointed. So friendly. Get the brisket, pulled pork, ribs and BANANA PUDDING! It's worth every calorie!

Food was great , but service is what's important with a nice meal! The server RUSHED us it was basically her ordering cause we were first timers she would suggest something and write it down (keep in mind food was 5star) but I felt uncomfortable with getting my check before i was finished with my meal and feeling like I needed to go after 5mins of getting the check ...boxes were at our table

I didn't order a lot of food, but their customer service was on point. I was tired and hungry and staying at the hotel next door. I ordered a smothered bake potato and it was ready in10 minutes it was hot and delicious and the staff was friendly and accommodating.

All of our food was kind of cold so we had to mark down drastically for that! Who wants cold bbq meat? Large portions, great music! Good location.

Peppy, friendly people. Eager to help and advise on what to eat. Which goes with the atmosphere of the place. A plan that works since you can't totally rely on the quality of the food to carry you through. Not that there is anything wrong with their food. Yes, there are other rib places, but it's the quality of service that sets some places apart from the rest.

Perfect service as always. I had barbecue chicken sandwich with barbecued chips. So good! This seems to be my favorite menu item. My son and hubby had ribs that were a nice size and portions were generous. Their bread pudding is the absolute best dessert item.

I'll start with the most troubling thing I experienced--the teenager at the takeout counter kept a stack of customer receipts on the counter, facing customers, so that the tip line would show and customers would see other customers left tips and be convinced to do the same. I'm sure it's harder to get tips at the takeout area, but wow, please don't compromise customers' financial information. Credit card numbers, name, and signature were all right there on display for everyone who walked up. I have alerted management about this, too, as that is just not okay. I was disappointed that the teenager, not liking the grand total I wrote down for my order, visibly nudged her coworker to indicate the receipt, hid it at the bottom of the stack of receipts (well, that turned out to be a good thing), and then didn't give me the BBQ sauce packets or napkins she'd promised and I'd requested. That was an unprofessional way to react and while possibly typical teenager behavior, doesn't make me inclined to return. Nevermind that I already am not returning unless I am paying in cash... But the food itself was decent. I've had better brisket (in TX, though, so my standards were lower here) but the chopped pork was good and the beans and cornbread muffins were great. It's too bad the wait was so long to even get an order placed and the worker had such a terrible attitude.

Famous Dave's does an adequate job at providing average barbecue. When I first started working in the area a few years ago, I would eat here at least once a week. The meats and sides offered were pretty good, but nothing extraordinary. It wasn't until I discovered Holy Smoke BBQ and Grill (down the street) that I stopped going to Famous Dave's. If you're looking for tastier BBQ and sides, skip Famous Dave's and drive down the street to Holy Smoke. I also got really sick here once... making it difficult to justify returning.

Being as I spent a decade in the south I appreciate a good brisket. That being said for a franchise type commercial southern food I'd recommend the fuck out of it. Devils spit makes my soul happy and the service is second to none. Price tag sucks ass at times

I brought my children here for ribs and I do believe they gave us a different animal organ...yet to be determined. The meat was so chewy that my cheeks hurt from all of the chewing I had to do just to swallow it - and the taste is an entire different story *chills*. If my server had been a little more attentive, I would have been able to get a refill so I could swallow the "mystery meat" I was served. Huge disappointment, however on a brighter note, the ice cubes I got to suck on while I waited for our server to check on us were refreshing.

Seems to have gone down hill. My wife and I have eaten here a number of times. I am pretty sure last time will be the last. The food was really good. Unfortunately they brought some Cole slaw out that was terribly rancid. My wife literally had to go out in the parking lot and puke. In a hurry to leave and get her home had a difficult time getting a check. Took forever. We won't go back which is a shame. This place used to be really good

Pretty good bbq. The atmosphere was great and the customer service was excellent. The ribs are on the smaller size. I have had better bbq in the area but their cornbread, baked beans and potato salad are really good. I would suggest to try it just to see if it fits your taste.

Ok so I have heard a lot about this place but never had the chance to stop until now. I must say that the place was pretty neat. The hostess was very helpful in explaining what Famous Dave's was famous for and even pointed out were the Restrooms were. The food was spectacular. Even the Coleslaw was good. Yes this can be an issue if not done right. We had the Feast for 2 or something like that. It had pretty much everything on it. What I found surprising was the Potato Wedges were hot and good. Wish we had one where I live.

I luv everything about this place. The feast and all you can drink hot sauce is the best :)

This was the worst Famous Dave's I have ever been too! I had a weird feeling as soon as I walked in that something wasn't right but I went forward... they left the wax paper on my grilled chicken sandwich and my mashed potatoes were cold... Just a disappointment! (Management did comp the meal) I'd suggest just going to holy smoke down the street.

It was my first night in Utah & some of my new co-workers wanted to take my boss & I to eat BBQ. Despite my desire to stay in my hotel room & watch crappy reality TV until I fell asleep, I decided to fight the initial feelings of jet lag & try Famous Dave's BBQ. Utah is known as the Mormon state & it's probably why the restaurant has a rule about checking someone's ID twice before being served their alcoholic drink. While the 5 of us waited for our meal to arrive, we played several "brain teasers", something Famous Dave's BBQ is known for & despite our combined intelligence, we were stumped. Thankfully, those brain teasers distracted everyone from the rumbling in our stomach & everyone greedily devoured the All American BBQ Feast which included: a full slab of St. Louis-Style Spareribs, a whole Country-Roasted Chicken, 1/2 lb. of Texas Beef Brisket, Creamy Coleslaw, Famous Fries, Wilbur Beans, 5 corn-on-the-cobs & 5 corn bread muffins. I was delightfully surprised everything on our platter was fantastic (that's not the jet lag talking), unfortunately, my experience was ruined by our waiter's open prejudice towards everyone at our table. It's a long shot, but the intention of my review is to inform Famous Dave's BBQ of the horrible customer service I received; I understand Asians are the minority on the mainland & I'm aware the color of my hair & shape of my eyes vary drastically from majority of people in Utah, but it doesn't give anyone the right to make someone feel less of a person because of their physical differences. If Famous Dave's BBQ is fine with letting their employees treat someone of a different ethnicity with open disrespect, maybe you should consider advertising a sign at the entrance of your restaurant so potential customers know what they're getting themselves into.

Very disappointed in Famous Dave's today. We go there a lot. However today the building was freezing cold because they had their AC on full blasted and the temper outside was 22 degrees. Told waitress it was really cold. She told us that the manager knew how cold it was but didn't seem to care. Also I ordered a salad. Found a hair intertwine in the bed of lettuce. Waitress acted bothered I said anything. Manager never approach our table to see if everything else was ok or to apologize for the hair. Think we will pass on Famous Dave's for a bit. A shame really.

When I think of Dave's the first thing that comes to mind is inconsistency, going in there I am not sure if it is going to be good or not. This last visit was for dinner, I was not wanting the ribs, pulled pork or brisket so opted for a combo plate of bbq chicken and hot link sausage with mac and cheese and beans. The wife got ribs and pulled pork with slaw and grilled pineapple. Chicken was smokey and reasonably good, sausage was charred to a crisp and not good, ribs were flavorful but on the tough side, pulled pork was fatty and hard to eat, sides were ok. So, all and all a mediocre meal. One of the best things about Dave's are the sauce options. Each table is fitted with a full selection of five sauces. This is great, the wife can have her sweet and sassy while i go for the spicy Devil spit, and sprinkle in a bit of Carolina mustard and some sweet to create a custom blend.

I've visited many times mostly with family and while it is good for family time, it's not great for BBQ. Lately I have found the brisket and chicken to be dry-almost like they were sitting out for a while before making it to the table. I usually remedy this by slathering all meats in the awesome Devil's Spit sauce. The rating is mostly for the good service I almost always experience at Famous Dave's.

I really like Dave's. We usually order the feast, which has a great variety of meat and sides. I can't say I've had a bad experience there. I really like the food.

"Why are you famous?" That was the question we were told to ask our waitress. I have heard great things about the chain from its Sandy location. The ambience feels like a typical chain restaurants with a wooden theme design. An interesting thing about this place is the sauces each table, there were about six different sauces to choose. While we were waiting for our food, they brought us some crackers to sample the sauces, the waitress recommended the "Rich & Sassy" sauce since that is their most popular one, but it was too sweet for me. I actually found the "Devil's Spit" sauce to my liking. They claimed it is their spiciest sauce, but it tasted a little sweet with other spice favours. I got the lunch combo with their half chicken and ribs. The chicken was quite small and dried, and others who got the chicken had similar issues, so I would avoid their chicken. The ribs were fairly decent, I thought it was a little dried, but I guess that's where the sauces on the table comes in. Maybe it was just this particular chain location, since the entire dining experience was just ok. Perhaps I needed to try more things on their menu.

Didn't like a food in our party and the manger took care of it immediately! Kudos to him and his team. What makes this experience amazing is our very nice and on top of her game server name KYLEE. She was very quick to fix our issue was immediate and serving our drinks and refills. Great job guys.

The wait staff will be happy to serve you and make sure you get what you want, and that it is done the way you want it. I have sent back chicken and ribs and brisket many times because it wasn't done to my liking. I am a very picky eater. Well, "sent back" is a misnomer because they just bring freshly cooked meats the way I want them, and my husband will eat what I don't want. We bring home leftovers nearly every time we go there. I know they have to check IDs for beer, but that's no reason to give the restaurant a bad rating because the state of Utah has some stupid laws. We dealt with it, we're still alive. The food is great.

Was surprised to not see this location on yelp. We had a group of ten on a Thursday night and were seated right away. Food was awesome and the Brisket? OMG! Don't put sauce on it as you will drown the lovely flavor. Worth every penny! Five teenagers got the meal that feeds many and they had LOTS of leftovers!

Service is OK, food is meh. If I say anymore about the food it would already be too generous.

Me and my fiance frequent Famous Dave's about once a month. The last time we came here the service was very slow. Our food took at least an hour to come out to us. The server and manager were very nice and upgraded our dessert. I like their food, the BBQ chips are my favorite. If you are looking for spicy, I mean really spicy, try Wilbur's Revenge sauce.

    (3)
  • Zack T.

Average BBQ at best in my opinion. I think Famous Dave's gets caught up in the restaurant chain aspect of the industry therefore the food lacks quality. There are 4-5 different sauces....I personally didn't think any were that great. For my flavor pallet I suggest Dickey's if you're looking for good BBQ in the Layton area.

  • Ron G.

Service was good. Food was ok. Expecting a bit better for a place that 'does BBQ'. We were there on a weeknight and the place was nearly empty. Had us questioning if there was a reason or a better place nearby. Checked my ID and then had a manager come by to check again. Can't get a second drink until the first is done and empty. A bit strange and wished they explained it to us (we're from the East Coast, not the UT area).

Famous Dave's will deliver consistenly decent BBQ. Service is good, BBQ sauces are good. Usually good, sometimes great. A little pricey when you have Dickeys and Holy Smokes BBQ less than a mile away.

Been to this location many times when we lived in this area. Great food & great service. Tonight was not the case. It was 15 minutes before any wait staff approached our table for drink or food order. Now, 45 minutes have gone by: no food yet, no refills, no check-ins from our waitress either. Very disappointing visit. Finally, our waitress remembered that she was our server and notified us that she never placed our order. I messaged the Famous Dave's official twitter, and got a response almost immediately. Our food was packaged up and free of charge by the manager of this particular restaurant. Grateful, it was the best we could have hoped for. No time machine to get that hour back from waiting.

  • David A.

I've had Famous Dave's in multiple other states, and this location was by far the worst. Our server was the only thing that saved them from getting 1 star. The food tasted like it was microwaved from the night before. Very small portions and lack of flavor made this my worst meal since moving to Utah.

  • Ben A.

I love BBQ, so this is right up my alley. I'd probably give this place a 5 on food alone, but the service is usually average, and the prices a little high. They have a tons of options for sauces from mild to mess your pants. The dinner portions are huge (I have never finished a meal and I'm a big guy). I'd recommend the lunch portion which is still a ton of food. As far a specific recommendations, I would say try the macaroni and cheese. They put jalapenos in the dish and it has a great taste.

    (3)
  • David T.

This is literally the worst excuse for BBQ I've ever had. I'll put it this way, the last time we went, which was because it was a friends birthday, I had the fish sticks. If you want BBQ, either go to Holy Smokes, or make the drive to Huntsville. This place is the worst.

    (1)
  • Jeremy B.

Terrible every time I've eaten here. Dry, overpriced, blah.

    (1)
  • Andrew H.

I would say it is about a 3.5 in reality. The BBQ sauce is OK, and most of the meat is good. The ribs are probably the best item on the menu. The portions are big so if you do not eat a lot a normal serving could feed two. Famous Dave's service is about average for the type of establishment it is. I would say that with a coupon it is good to eat there and OK without depending on what you order. Lunch specific items are limited menu on the back of the menu and most seem not that great of a deal compared to the normal menu.

    (3)
  • Nate B.

This would get 5 stars if it weren't for the prices, they are a little high for me. Ribs are epic, beans are magical, cornbread is awesome, corn is so-so, good choice of BBQ sauces. Fun atmosphere. Love this place.

    (4)
  • Lyoni P.

The BBQ is BBQ alright. Range of sauces. They have this cool family platter that is served on trash can lids. Pretty cool. The smoker is in house and if you sit on the right side you can watch and view them pulling meats in and out. Bit pricey compared to Holy Smoke. Prefer Holy smoke more variety for good prices. And it's down the street from famous. Not my 1st choice

    (3)
  • Brittney C.

I like the ribs, but this place is nothing special

    (3)
  • Brian A.

This place is hit and miss. The service could be better and the meat is dry. This place has potential but they are turning into a chain. There are better places in Layton to get BBQ.

    (2)
  • Missy O.

Food was good...until the big, long, black hair showed up on-the plate. Manager and waitress took care of the problem instantly. Too bad another one showed up baked into the corn bread. Needs quality control. I definitely would look for another BBQ place for the future. Missing Texas...

    (2)
  • Chad F.

Food is great with large portions little pricey though

    (4)
  • Bryan J.

Famous Dave's is decent barbeque. The wait here can be long, and the service spotty, but the food is good. At times I've seen the wait staff bend over backwards for picky eaters to satisfy and stand behind the food. BBQ sauces tend to be a bit heavy and predictable, but, again, are good. While many customers order the trashcan lid filled with a sampler of meats (also available in half-size order), the better deal is for everyone in your party to get "Choose Any Two Meats" plates, and share around a little. The best meat is their beef brisket. The rib tips are a delicious, generous portion if a little fatty (to be expected). Chicken is dry, sausage ordinary, and ribs definitely nothing to claim fame over. For sides the commonly-ordered slaw and beans are fine, but more memorable are the Drunkin' Apples, Firecracker Beans (spicy green beans with bacon) and Fries. The soggy corn cobs are KFC horrendous. There are also choices in salads, sandwiches and burgers for diners not in the mood for the barbeque served the way most are here to enjoy.
