Great food and nice staff! The only reason that I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it could be a little cleaner. My wife and I will definitely be going back.

Halibut and chips are the best. Skip the fries and go for the onion rings. Halibut pieces are on the small side so you may want to go 3 piece

Until I have a lousy visit, these guys are getting 5 stars. We needed breakfast, I wanted in expensive, and Virg's just happened to be located at the right location. Our visit was about 10:30 on a Monday morning and business was slow. We sat down right away and had our beverage order taken. Then I opened yelp to read the reviews and got worried. But since we weren't in a huge hurry I realized it didn't matter. Food came in a timely manner, and like other reviews have said, portion size was big. Food was good. Our server was a young man and was efficient. Nothing about our visit to warrant docking any stars, in fact it met my expectations perfectly.

Horrible. There is no dress code, I felt like I was in a night club. The women wear VERY low cut shirts, yoga pants & the guys have their pants under their bottom. Also, flat brimmed hats on the waiter? I could understand hats in the kitchen & if they had the logo, not a sparkly bedazzled hat!! There are very few friendly people who work there, everyone seems to have something else more important going on. My food had a hair in it & we were told "um okay and?" I understand the food is very cheap, but have some standards at your business.

Yep, I'm going to need to go back here soon. Despite the cramped interior, this place is the bomb dot com. As we perused the menu, a waitress walked by with a burrito platter. Not joking - the burrito was the size of my son when he was a newborn. My kid only weighed 4 lbs but that is still a freaking huge burrito. You can get pretty much anything you want at Virg's - Mexican, breakfast, salads, Italian, fish, desserts - the list goes on and on. The menu is pretty fun to look through. So many options, what will you choose? My favorite part of the menu was the Mexican page with the caption "Hola amigoes! This food is muey bueno!" Killed me. Husband had the "sheppard's" pie. It was not your traditional shepherd's pie, more like a pot roast topped with mashed potatoes. He ate the whole thing, but it wasn't his favorite. My son had the chicken nuggets and devoured them, along with his fries (the fry sauce here is pretty good too.) I had the chicken fried steak and holy crap, they brought me out half a cow. HUGE portion - I could not believe it. I tucked in and ignored the soggy mixed veggies and my serving of fries, and good thing I did or I wouldn't have been able to walk out of there. The steak was delicious and the gravy was perfect. I wasn't a huge fan of the fries, but you can't win 'em all. For the price, this place is a steal. Were we not indulging in a gluttonous "last meal of 2011" dinner, we would have had enough for 2-3 meals. As it was, we left a lot on the table. I can't wait to go back for breakfast. I have a feeling their biscuits and gravy are going to be out of this world.

Lots of food. I had a burger and it was great with an awesome bun. If you're wanting to get a lot of food, look to the dinner menu

While I was in town visiting, I met some friends who were having breakfast here. This place was nothing special. However, if you're looking for a greasy diner that serves a big huge breakfast at an inexpensive price, this is the place to come. Although my friends gather here on a regular basis after church on Sundays, I have no plans to ever eat here again.

I have never written a review before, but as a retired waitress, I feel compelled to write one about our visit last night to Virg's. My husband and I have been wanting good fish and chips for awhile so I looked on the internet for a good place. Virg's was rated #2 for best fish and chips in Utah so we were excited to go. We walked in and the sign said "seat yourself" so we proceeded to walk to find a table, yet table after table was dirty. The waitress then came to clean one for us, so we sat down. I then went to the bathroom to wash my hands and the towel dispenser didn't work. I walked back to our table and saw a dirty napkin on the floor in front of our table that the waitress failed to pick up when "cleaning" our table. Not exactly appetizing. We asked the waitress which fish was the best and she answered honestly, which I appreciate and always tried to do myself, by saying that she liked the Haddock the best but that the Cod was her least favorite. We proceeded to order a combination appetizer plate which we usually like to do no matter where we go, but the waitress failed to bring us 2 small plates with it, so we had to ask. The platter was full of food, which is good, but there is no room to put ketchup or fry sauce, etc. A good waitress would know this and bring small plates without having to be asked. Originally we were going to only get Cod, but with what the waitress said, we decided to order from the Mix and Match option so that we could try the Haddock, Halibut and the Cod so we could see for ourselves which we liked the best. For us, the Haddock was the best, the Halibut was #2 and the Cod was disappointing. Granted, we know we are in Utah so the fish cannot be fresh, but considering Virg's was rated #2 in the state, we expected better. Now for the main reason we will probably not go back to Virg's. Besides the waitress being honest about the food, which was appreciated, she was terrible at her job. She was young. Virg's apparently likes to have young and pretty waitresses, but fails to realize that inexperience ruins what could have been a nice night out for the customers. She was obviously doing her closing duties while we were "trying" to have a nice dinner. She kept going back and forth with tubs of dirty dishes, so we had to flag her down whenever we wanted something. I don't appreciate feeling like an annoyance when it is her job to take care of US, not all the dirty tables. Then she goes by with a mop and bucket and starts mopping around the corner from us. Let me tell you, it is not a pleasant experience to be eating food while smelling a strong odor of bleach in the air. The mopping should absolutely be done when there are no customers left in the restaurant. Doing that while we were still eating is totally unacceptable to me. But then it gets worse, she then feels the need to come and apologize to us because she had to mop throw up off the floor. She absolutely did not need to tell us that at all. Talk about unappetizing. Her absolute inexperience ruined what could have been a decent night out. So, we will probably not go back to Virg's. The food was decent, but how the restaurant is run is a complete turn off. Virg's either needs to teach their waitresses to pre-bus or hire bussers to help them so the customers can come first, if they actually want to continue having customers at all.

We went to Virg's for breakfast on Saturday morning. Our server was very attentive and gave us great service. In opposition to some other reviews, we found the food to be OK but not great. If quantity is more important to you than quality this is your place (along with Leatherby's Ice Cream) .

Went for late Sunday breakfast. It's true that it's not the classiest place but it had a nice diner atmosphere. Ordered the small breakfast burrito. Very tasty with lots of chili verde. Definitely hearty. My wife ordered the Wholly Hog which has a tenderized pork loin on top of eggs and hash-browns. When it came out she realized it had breading on it which is fine for most but she can't eat it. NO PROBLEM! Geno, our server, made it all right. He took it back and substituted 2 nice pork chops. She loved it. Her's also came with a pancake that I ate and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had including my own. I'd think our favorite part was Geno. He was very personable and did everything he could to make it a great experience. I highly recommend for breakfast. We'll be back with our kids for their burgers and fish and chips.

Wow! Just amazing comfort diner food. I love the portion sizes. The value for the buck is awesome! Every sandwich & burger I've tried is awesome. Also, they have tater tots. That might not be a selling point to some, but I LOVE tater tots. I have yet to have a bad experience after 6 or so visits. Definitely becoming a regular.

I have eaten here twice. Portions are very very large and the value for what you get is great but the food is nothing fantastic, plus high fat foods are served. You can't eat everything on your plate but who really needs that much food to take home in a dogie bag you will never eat. It was hot in the restaurant when I ate there both times and the fish and chips were dripping with grease. Not very healthy food options on the menu. Much better places to eat.

  • Rebecca C.

The restaurant was hot, it was kind of dirty and in need of some repairs. The food was okay. Typical dinner fare. The one thing I could not get past was the server we had. She sat down next to my husband at the table, kept touching him whenever she came over and called him pet names. She was completely unprofessional and was busy talking about inappropriate personal things when not busy to her coworkers, loud enough to hear all about them. I doubt I'll go back even though the food was okay.

Love the special breakfast burrito--it's my favorite. But, besides the excellent food, the best part of Virg's is the service--the waitress I always ask for here is Taylor. She is personable, attentive, and a great waitress! I like the food here very much, but for me, if the service is not good, I won't come back. I can get good food many places...I cannot always get great service. It makes all the difference. Taylor always makes me feel like I've come home--she is always there with a smile and is the ultimate professional, too. She is always attentive to my drink, the food is always delivered hot, and she remembers what I like. I love that Cheers-type atmosphere--"where everybody knows your name" and where it feels like home. For a home-style diner, Taylor is perfect in creating that atmosphere. My grandkids love her, too--she makes them feel just as important as she does me. Go to Virg's--and ask for Taylor. You won't be disappointed!

Solid basic breakfast with fresh cut hashbrowns and thick bacon. Great friendly service, clean interior and an easy location! Just say no to corporate food! Eat local and support small business!

One of the best burgers I've ever had in my life, everything was fresh and home made. I can eat massive portions and I couldn't finish the burger.

I got to know Virg's a little better after meeting up here for brunch with families. The place is setup like many diners with two rows of soft seats. It was as clean as most diners. We bonded over a very Special Burrito with tons of goodies like potato, meats, and eggs, then a Chili Verde sauce smother on top. It was delicious and all, but definitely not for the fainted heart who get sick from greasy food. This would be the place to go whenever you feel like stuff yourself with fatten food and wince about terrible things in life.

Stopped in for breakfast with my wife and five kids having heard great things about Virg's...and we weren't disappointed! Food was great with huge portions and the service was A+. We were a bit concerned when we got here because it wasn't very busy, but we were completely satisfied and will be returning soon for some more of their mammoth pancakes!!

Walked into this place and not expecting very much but somewhere to eat breakfast. Was pleasantly surprised by the portions in this place. I ordered a 1/2 French toast w/ Ham & 1 egg for $5.49. Didn't expect that a full slice of ham and 4 pieces of French toast would come out on my plate. I ordered my egg over medium and it was cooked perfectly. Coffee was good and not bitter. Total price for breakfast was less than $10 including tax and a good tip. If you need a good place south of the valley for breakfast, stop by and sit yourself down in one of the green booths.

Food was absolutely horrible. Eggs Benedict with soggy muffin, bland and foul tasking "hollandaise" sauce, and american cheese. Who puts american cheese on an eggs Benedict?! Hash browns were cold. Sausage overbreaded. Never. Again.

If your really hungry then this is the place to be. You can not go wrong with anything on that menu. If you are a burger man then this is definitely worth going to. Bring in the whole family or have your own burger challenge in ordering the 10" burger. This will feed 4 to 5 people. (10 inch bun/ 2 lbs of lean brown beef) This is Utah's largest burger that I know of. The burger is packed with flavor and don't come in wanting to count calories because this will blow the charts! The fries are freshly cut and fried. The mother burger to the 10" burger is any burger you want to upsize "Ginormous any burger" this burger is also huge and it will feed 2 to 3 people.

Ended up at Virg's from a recommendation from my dear friend Buzz. He came over last night to download my iTunes library. We had been drinking rum and eggnog and I started telling him about my chicken friend steak at Johanna's Kitchen from the night before. He begins to rant and rave about Virg's so we head out to dilute our blood alcohol content. My 17-year-old drove. I ordered another chicken fried steak as did my youngest, he had the fish and chips and my oldest ordered eggs benedict. The place is located in a defunct Winger's restaurant. They were plenty busy. Service was good, prices were reasonable. I have no complaints whatsoever and neither did any of the rest of us. The food was great, presentation was nice, etc. I'm going to stick with Johanna's for my next chicken fried steak. If I go back, I'll order the fish and chips. I had a bite of Buzz's and it was amazing. My oldest didn't like the eggs benedict as much as what she gets at Eggs in the City but that's a pretty high standard when it comes to eggs. There was nothing greasy about our meals, the menus were clean, our waitress nice, efficient and professional. I was out the door with tip around $50-ish. This is a nice diner. I don't know their hours but it would be a perfect stop after a night of drinking. Looking at these other reviews, I'd guess my experience was an outlier. Perhaps it was the rum coursing through my veins. Whatever the case, I had a very positive experience and I'm usually very critical!

The best burger I ever had! Everything was fresh and home made. The burger was cooked to perfection and the bun was freshed baked and toast with butter so good. Love this past and price was great too!

I read some of the reviews from a year or more ago and was worried about trying this place. My brother and I went anyway for the fish and chips and were plesently surprised. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. We were in and out in 50 minutes or so. We both tried the fish and chips. The haddock and halibut were good enough we'll be going back.

I just recently moved to the area and my dad took me here for my very first meal here! I was expecting "Denny's" quality, or average diner food. But I was pleasantly surprised when I was served up a huge plate! The portions are huge. The prices are great, and the service is friendly, and fast. I'm definitely making this a tradition to bring all my friends here when they come to visit.

Virg's is the diner I love to hate. It's a total greasy spoon, the menus almost always have something sticky or chunky on them, and I feel like I'm in some kind of kitchy beach diner. That being said, it's tough to beat the value for the food at Virg's. They are famous for their fish and chips, which I don't personally care for. But what I love are their giant dinner plates...shepherd's pie, meatloaf, comfort foods galore. For under $10, you get a giant platter of food, bread, salad, and ice cream. My husband and I share a dinner there and can't ever finish it. They also have delicious scones...the scone smiley face is my go-to breakfast choice at Virg's. I don't always admit to eating at Virg's, but when I do...I write about it on Yelp.

Horrible service. Be prepared to receive your toast after you are finished with you meal. If you want a refill on your iced tea, go to Denny's.

We stumbled into Virg's while looking for somewhere that was open past 9 pm after catching a movie. I'd never noticed this place before so we thought we'd give it a try. Here's the bottom line on Virg's: huge portions of food that you could cook better at home. This place has a cool, old school diner interior. I'd call it retro but that implies that it is TRYING to look old in order to be hip. This place IS just old. It's cool though, with old green vinyl booths that you can sink into and make those unfortunate farty noises when your jeans rub the seat just the wrong way. The menu is all over the place, a cacaphony of unrelated food. Is is a fried seafood shack? A Mexican restaurant? A burger joint? YES! Check out my pics of the menu and you will see what I mean. I got nervous when I saw the menu because usually when a restaurant tries to be too many things at once, the food (and diners) suffer. This wasn't entirely the case with Virg's. Going with the classic diner theme, I had a cheeseburger and my hubby had the steak. Both were "fine" and were of a decent quality but they were nothing to write home about. I could've prepared a much better burger and steak at home. I asked for veggies instead of fries / potato and I got a bowl of the grossest frozen, microwaved carrots and cauliflower mix you have ever seen. The cauliflower was still ice cold in the middle! The side salad was an afterthought of food truck bagged lettuce with some olives strewn on top. Ack! I did like how the booths had a ton of condiments right on the table. There were 4 different flavors of Cholula sauces, mustard, ketchup, steak sauce and a variety of jams and jellys. Maybe the cooks think their food is bland and the diners will require a bunch of sauce to add flavor? Yeah, the portions are huge but that's just a gimmick. When the food is just so-so, I don't care how much is crammed on my plate. The service was fine and the food was fine. Maybe I'll try the Mexican food next time I'm in town.

Only getting a one because I can't give it a zero. Complete chaos. Not run well at all. Poor management. And found hair in our food underneath the has Brown's. Gross disgusting. Not worth the price or the wait. Unprofessional staff and trashy looking waitresses. Will never be coming back and recommend shutting this place down until it can run like a proper food establishment.

I am ALWAYS craving good fish & chips...and after eating here...I am still craving good fish & chips. My hubby and I stopped by for lunch - he ordered the halibut and spicy fries, and I ordered the "3 choice" (halibut, cod, and chicken), with regular fries. Let's see...? When ordering "Fish and Chips" should you order the Cod? Or the Halibut? The Cod is cheaper and much larger than the halibut...but the Halibut TASTES so much better!!...So...order the Cod if you are hungry, and order the Halibut if you are in the mood to feel emotionally satisfied. Random things I noticed during my visit: 1. Abandoned locked silver briefcase sitting in a booth next to us. 2. Hostess came over to our table and asked me how to spell "Receive" 3. Hostess and Waiter danced together. Felt like I was in an episode of 007.

My Mom, Wife and I were in town for a few days for a wedding. I avoided this place at first because of the low star rating. While driving by, I noticed a bunch of fire trucks in the parking lot. I know that both police and firemen know their food, so I ignored the rating and gave this place a go. The service and food were so good we ate there the next day. One the first day, I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. The gravy makes or breaks this dish and I found it to be very good. My mom had omelet, and my wife had French toast both were very good as well. I read the reviews about the poor service/cooking, and I was concerned with the help wanted sign hanging on the front door. The servers had a good sense of humors and were attentive. I will say that don't expect the food to be served quickly, but I did not find the wait to be overly excessive and was worth the wait. The next time I am in town, I will go back and eat here...

I consider myself a breakfast Nazi. I get so tired of all these fast food places that cook a pile a crap, throw it on a bun or in a tortilla, and call it breakfast. I have been looking for a decent place to buy a real "sit down breakfast" with the speed and convenience of a fast food joint (if I am in a hurry). I finally found it! The portions are huge! And while not gourmet, the food is very delicious. The prices are reasonable. I didn't know what to expect when I went in. I order to go. When I got back to the office, I realized I over ordered. I was used to the small "fast food" portions that are way over priced. I was completely satisfied and the food was great. They have a wide selection of choices. Eggs and Hashbrowns are a stable. Then you can add anything from corned beef hash, sausage, ham, bacon, etc. If you are looking for a great home cooked breakfast for a great price, this is the place!

Stopped for breakfast and left with supper for 2. My husband had the Wholly Hog Breakfast, he could only eat 1/3 of it. Wait staff very friendly. Older place but very clean. One of the best breakfasts we've had in awhile, and we eat breakfast out a lot!

Got part of someone else's meal mixed with my daughter's hash browns. Ver sloppy grillwork. Mediocre food. Average service. Would not even give this dive status. Too bad. We need a cool grille in Draper.

Keep in mind I am making sure not to compare them to anything higher than Village Inn. I thought of giving them two stars (when my better half came in the room and said "don't you dare"). To start. Waitress was very nice. Unfortunately that doesn't make up for the fact that I my coffee was empty for at least 15 minutes before she offered to refill it. and after the first refill she never offered again. However if I was rating wait service instead of Virg's that wouldn't be enough to give her a bad rating, and I still gave full tip (20%). Now to what counts; 1. The floor was so sticky I could hear my feet moving under the table. (also while walking. 2. The pancakes were wet. Either too heavy or just not cooked. The waitress didn't notice that after the whole meal we didn't eat them. 3. " How long ago did you pull the plastic from that Western Family cheese slice?" On top of the omelette was a piece of very obviously cheap cheese that was cold and tasted like something that had been on a McDonalds burger too long. 4. The portions were enough to fill the plate but I'm not sure that counts unless it actually tastes good. 5. The hash browns are probably a cheap version of something you could buy at Sams Club. 6. It felt very humid inside. (unusual for Utah) didn't feel like they had the air on or maybe just hadn't opened the door in a long time. Breakfast here was sooo bad that I would fear giving them a shot at lunch or dinner. I actually don't mind a cheap diner. unfortunately I don't feel this qualifies. If your someone who actually cares what goes in you mouth avoid this place.

Dang, we had an awful experience here. Really, really awful. Four of us decided to meet for lunch. Virg's was pretty central, so that's where we picked. I got there a little after the other guys, at about 12:05. They had already ordered. I was sitting for at least 5 minutes before the server noticed I was there. No biggie. I flagged her down and ordered a drink and she scampered away before I could tell her what I wanted to eat. Time: 12:10 Took another 10 minutes to get my drink. By that time our fourth guy had arrived. She brought my drink and left before I could give her my food order. The fourth guy -- who is pretty hard to miss -- didn't get to order ANYTHING at this point. Time: 12:20 Five minutes later, she came and took our food orders. My drink was empty and I had set it down right on the edge of the table, but she didn't notice. She didn't realize that she hadn't asked #4 if he wanted anything to drink. Off she ran. Time: 12:25 Server brings the food ordered by buddy #1: a salad. She drops it on the table, tells the rest of us that our food is "coming up." Two of us now need refills. She brings no dressing for the salad. Off she goes again. Time: 12:30 We flag down the server and ask her for some salad dressing. Buddy #2 asks whether he's gonna ever get his hamburger (which he ordered half an hour ago). Here's the waitress's ACTUAL explanation: "Well, we have this new girl and she's, like, stealing everyone else's food and giving it to her tables. I think she stole your hamburger." Off she goes to check. Three of us now need drink refills. Time: 12:35 Waitress checks back and says the food is "coming up." I ask for a refill of my soda and she runs off. Buddy #2 has to get back to work soon. Time: 12:40 Waitress dumps off a drink for me, ignoring the other two who need refills. ANOTHER waitress comes by and brings Buddy #4 and me our sandwiches. Buddy #2 (the one who needs to get back to work) is still completely hamburgerless. Time: 12:45 Waitress brings Buddy #2 his burger, which falls apart when he picks it up. The bottom bun was in three pieces. He is less than pleased. Time: 12:50 Food was so-so, and the service was dreadful. Our waitress, as well as the "new girl" who was stealing food, should be given an immediate heave-ho. I don't know whether this is a typical experience, but Virg's sure didn't make any fans during yesterday's "guy's lunch out."
