Can't go wrong with the Sweet Pork Barbacoa

Food is good but staff is horrible. Seem like they are bothered by orders and focused on just chit chatting with each other and screwing off. Zero leadership here. They slop the food together and toss it around and clearly care very little about customer service (like a lot of the other reviews).

I ate at Cafe Rio once about 10 years ago when I was in town visiting my Grandmother. A decade later I was back in town again. Where did I drag my new husband???? CAFE RIO, baby!! And that says A LOT because we live in Arizona - about 1 hour from the Mexican border. Before this we lived in Texas. Needless to say, we know and love our Mexican food!! And while I certainly wouldn't call Cafe Rio "authentic" Mexican, its absolutely up there with any of our favorite Tucsonian Mexican eateries. You've GOT to get the pork - its simply incredible! I got mine in salad form with huge portions of lettuce, rice, beans, crunchy tortilla strips, & meat. It also came with guacamole and cheese - but those were just "regular" sized portions compared to the generosity of the other stuff on the salad. The vinaigrette (which I ordered on the side) was amazing! Slightly sweet & spicy at the same time. My husband got the same thing, but in burrito form (instead of salad). Honestly - I'd say his was even better! It was a close call though. And one of my other favorite parts - the amazing array of fresh lemonades! They had 3 different kinds of fresh squeezed lemonade (all with free refills!!!) Everything from "regular" country-style, to strawberry, and the unique mint-lemonade. I did a mixture of mint and strawberry and was blown away! You MUST MUST MUST get over to Cafe Rio if you haven't already! And pack some up to go and ship it to me down in Arizona!!!

Worst location I have been to. Staff are rude & if you ask for veggie, they won't do it correctly. Super stingy on portions. Going to take the longer drive to the other location, because this is the 3rd time with an awful experience.

It's loud always (but that is what the company wants) always very busy because the food is amazing!

I love Cafe Rio. I liked this location. We went there on a saturday lunch time, and it could have been chaotic, but it was great. We found seating and had out food without problems at all. Definitely the best choices there are the salads. I mean, dont get me wrong, I could be drooling for almost any item there, but getting the salads, with a wheat tortilla is not only a healthier option, but also a great tasting one. the best thing about most cafe rios, is when they have their lemonade. Their Mint Limeade is liquid nirvana.

I come here for the barbecoa pork salad & it is delish as always! I will take away a star though because while I was in town with the in laws I ordered from here twice - once for take out the 2nd for curb side pick up which my hubby & bro in law picked up - & I was very SPECIFIC on the phone to make sure it was a TOSTADA salad the 2nd time around since I missed that the 1st time - yet they still sent me 2 salads w/ NO tostada bowls, I must say that really ticked me off so I'm taking away a star. I called in however to file a complaint w/ the MGR Carlos & he was very sympathetic & offered two free salads later that day or the next day but since we were heading out of town we missed out on that deal :( Note to SELF: TOSTADA bowl next time! On the 2nd order I did get a carne burrito enchillada style & it was really bleh for me. Will stick to ordering just the salads from here.

Cafe Rio = Excellent. This location = a nightmare. It's unfortunate and out of Cafe Rio's control, but the ridiculous lack of parking and even more insane nearby intersection / traffic pattern at 123rd & State have made me so frustrated and aggravated that I won't go back here. I'm driving up to the Sandy location from now on - this one just isn't worth the hassle. Of course, the food is unbeatable. I've never had a bad meal here - the pork is delicious, the steak is top quality, and mm, tres leches...mmm. Absolutely excellent food all around. Fast, good service, friendly, clean - all of that is five-star worthy. Maybe you're much more patient than I am and don't mind the insanity of getting to and from this location - if so, power to you! Otherwise, I'll see you up the road in Sandy.

The pork barbacoa salad was worth it. Generous portion of greens, beans, rice, meat, guac, and tortilla strips all served over a fresh tortilla and with a side of creamy green tomatillo dressing. The fresh tortilla is fluffy and amazing. The dressing has a bit of a kick but is just the right touch. I do agree that the parking lot is a bit of a circus, but I made it in and out alive. The ordering process was a little daunting for a newb like me. I could barely hear the questions that were asked of me because it's pretty noisy. Surprisingly good for a chain, fast-food restaurant. I'll be back. With my stamp card and my appetite.

I've had a lot of good Mexican food being from California and this one rates highly in my book. The energy of the place is great, they got the staff pretty much yelling for first timers, free meals and things like that. I can see how that could be distracting but I enjoyed it. The food was amazing though, everything here is made fresh and from scratch and you can watch them make the tortillas in front of you. I rudely snapped a picture with the flash on, since I didn't check before taking the picture, but the lady making them didn't say anything to me about it. I had the pork quesadilla and tortilla soup and both were pretty awesome. The main thing for me was that the tortillas were some of the best ones I've eaten in a long time. I could just eat the tortillas endlessly and be completely content with it. The pork had a nice sweetness to it and it was just delicious. The drinks they have there seem to be freshly made and it was great too, had a lot of variety as well. All in all, I hope to go back to a Cafe Rio sometime in the near future.

I normally don't give chain places 4 stars, but I really enjoy the Cafe Rio sweet pork selections. i can never decide between the salad or the smothered burrito! I know it has little to do with authenticity, but it is yummy and makes me smile when I want a big, quick meal. My sister and I had a just girls, no kids, lunch at this location this week and got the salad. Usually I love the soft freshly cooked tortilla that is the base of the salad, this time, for the 1st time ever, it was dry and crumbly, so I was a little disappointed. But it didn't ruin the overall salad for me. The meat was as good as always, mixed with the dark crunchy lettuce, cilantro, guacamole, and the green tomatillo dressing....just plain tasty. One thing that seems to be consistent at every location....it's always PACKED and LOUD at lunch time. So come prepared to either take out, or bring a friend to table stalk those who look like they may be finishing up. And perhaps someone else to chat with in line, as it can be long, although generally moves quickly. Those folks hustle! Also, these folks sing! it was a fun atmosphere. Parking is particularly difficult at this location. There just is not enough of it for the size of the shopping complex, so, be prepared to walk, or fight for a spot.

Being from California, I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would find the the perfect burrito (and by perfect I mean out of this world, truly amazing, die for it kind of burrito) in UTAH of all places! Just found out (via Yelp) that Cafe Rio has opened a few places here in SoCal, and I am more than willing to drive an hour if it means getting my hands on one of their burritos. Everything about Cafe Rio is incredible. Tortillas are super fresh, the prices are seriously affordable, the decor is cute and colorful, and the staff is ALWAYS friendly and SO fast. Ordering is done at the front of the restaurant where you can watch your food being made, which speeds up the process and leaves you with your glorious eats within minutes of walking in the door. The pork barbacoa is unlike anything I have ever had ANYWHERE, the burritos are smothered enchilada style in sauces, and the portions are HUGE. We are talking monster sized, as in take-some-of-it-home-because-there-is-no-way-you-can-finish-it-all huge. Their pico de gallo is out of this world, the creamy cilantro ranch dressing is literally a thing of dreams, and had they not opened up establishments here in Cali I would have been racking up miles on my car simply driving to Utah to get my Cafe Rio fix.

I have been eating off and on at Cafe Rio for many years, and have normally been quite satisfied until now. The staff seemed 'ho-hum' at best, nobody was smiling, at checkout I provided my frequent diner card that provided us with a free meal ~ gone was the usual shout out "FREE MEAL", I asked the clerk why no shout out, "We just don't do that anymore." The food was warm, not hot, portions ok, tasty. So, it's nothing major, it just wasn't very fun ~ something has changed, maybe this explains why there is no longer a line out the door.

As always the food is good at cafe rio. But the service was not the best I asked 3 different people for side of tortillas to go with my burrito but I never got them.

The pork salad you get here is pretty close to the other Cafe Rio locations. The house dressing, which has a tomatillo base and a small kick (spice) is nice, and the vegetables are always fresh. The staff was also extremely polite the other day when I lost my keys -- they took my number and promised to call me if they found anything. Overall, I thought the staff here was unusually polite.

Good food, terrible service. I would have given 2 stars but gave it 3 stars because the food was delicious. First time I've visited Utah and was told the sweet pork here was awesome. It was! But the teenagers working at this location did not give great service. I was not greeted when I came in and while plenty of them were standing around, I was ignored for a couple of minutes. I didn't want rice but they put it on without asking. I also didn't like that my only options to put on the burrito were beans, meat, and cheese. I wanted more stuff inside the burrito but I guess that's how they do it here. I wanted guacamole but was never asked, I didn't even get a chance to request it before they were wrapping my burrito up. Then when it was time to pay, again the teenagers were just standing around talking. I think I'll just stick with Freebirds.

The food is good but the staff at this location needs some help. The girl that helped me with my internet order was someone who needs to be liberated from her position. I wish that I would have waited in line instead.

DRAPER, UT: This Cafe Rio is just like a Katy Perry song: Reliably good, if derivative, appeals to the masses, very consistent style, and there are always dozens of teenie boppers around who make the loyal fans. Seriously, the pork burrito rocks (5 star). Get it enchilada style medium salsa. Pork salad house dressing is 5 star, too. Fish tacos are 3 star. Other items are all 4ish

Anyone who has eaten here knows that this place is the bomb dot com. I highly recommend the pork salad, but to be honest, everything on the menu is good. The lines seem almost always to be long, but they do move quite fast. It has a very In-n-Out feel to it, in that the line is always long and there never seems to be enough seating, but some how, every time, after you order there magically seems to be a table for you and your friends. The best thing about this place is every 11th meal is free. When you hand them the card everybody working there shouts "Free Meal!" It makes you feel like a VIP.

Cafe Rio's pork salad is so amazingly delicious. The pork is a little bit sweet and spicy all at once and mixed with their cilantro lime rice it is the perfect bite. They always give you a giant pile of lettuce, topped with pico, lime, cilantro, cheese, and crispy chip strips. Then you get a big container of their tomatillo ranch dressing, which is like the most delicious thing ever, I could drink it on its own. All of this is served on a cheesy tortilla. The only thing I will say is that I feel like their tortillas aren't always the freshest, and they are usually cold. They are making them fresh off to the side, but the add cheese and then make a stack off to the side that just sits there until ordered. Their burritos are also really good, and smothered is definitely the way to go. Covered in enchilada sauce and smothered in cheese, then baked to perfection. The restaurant is always loud and full of people, but that is the atmosphere they are going for, and it is always fun. It is a little on the pricey side, but it is worth it and I always find myself craving a delicious pork salad. Be sure to get a punch card when you go, so that your 10th meal is free!

Great service and delicious food always. One of my favorite restaurants!! The only drawback is it's a really long line and there's horrible parking during busy hours.

I like the product Cafe Rio pushes but this is the 2nd time I've been to this location and the food service area is significantly less clean than other locations. Meats are mixed and lettuce and cheese sprinkled over the dressings. Some mixing is understandable...especially during a busy lunch hour but this was not the case during my visit. A more vigilant staff would make this place a favorite since it is conveniently located.

This is a second review. This cafe rio is by far the worst! We love cafe rio and most of the time we love the environment and everything about it. Well to put it simply not this one! The star is unfriendly, the restaurant is always dirty, and service is soooooo slow! We went in today because we were in the area. There were 7 people total in line in front of us and it took 20 minutes to move through the line! That's ridiculous. Possibly if the lady at the front of the line wasn't flirting with the guy in front of us then thing ha would have been smoother. Every employee in there line wears a scowl and a frown. No one is friendly and there is absolutely nothing about this location that I will return for. If the owner reads his yelp reviews I would recommend stepping in and getting this store in line. It is a poor example of what cafe rio is.

About three years ago my brother in law ate 3 smothered pork burritos in one sitting to win a bet! That's impressive to me and one of the things that I admire most about him. Cafe Rio is comfort food the entire family can't get enough of. We've been loyal patrons since '95. You really can't go wrong with any of the menu items. The choices are like kids sure you like some better than others but you love them all. This location does offer curbside pick up wich is nice. Just phone ahead or order online and arrive at the appointed time and they'll collect the money and deliver the food to your car! Simple. It seems like the seating is extremely limited in the winter so we rarely dine in. I've noticed slight variations in the red/hot sauce in past year. It seems a little hotter which I prefer. Here are my top 3 meals: Pork burrito, black beans, hot sauce, enchilada style Pork salad, black beans, tomatilla dressing Beef burrito, black beans, mild sauce, enchilada style Salmon Tacos are a daily special that is great for days when you prefer to eat a little lighter. I do realize that there are 4 items on my Top 3 list but I couldn't leave any of them out. Enjoy

Café Rio food at this location is tasty and pretty affordable, but the parking lot gets very crowded and the lines can be very long around lunchtime, especially on a Saturday. This location shares a parking lot with other popular restaurants, so parking can be a challenge.

This place is the best I always get the enchiladas with corn tortilla and sweet pork Barbacoa or the steak nachos!! Friendly staff! Restrooms could use a little check up now and then though.

You need a meal, you're in Draper. You don't have a lot of time (but you do have enough to stand in line during big meal times) and it's just going to make more sense to grab something. Enter Cafe Rio. You know exactly what you're going to get. And it's a quick (ish) meal. I can't do the pork anymore (so sweet!) but the chicken ain't bad. Burrito. Enchilada style. That is the way. Parking is pretty bad, and access back to I-15 is laughable. But if you're off the freeway and local, here's a dependable meal.

Love Cafe Rio! Have never had something there I haven't liked! My faves are the Steak Salad or Steak Tostada & Pork Tacos. Yum!!! And the house creamy dressing is the bomb! Mmmmm - might have to go there tonight!

When Café Rio first started it truly was a wonderful thing, and when it came to fast-food/chain Mexican nothing could compare when it came to the food, which for the most part is excellent and generally of consistent quality. The Pork Barbacoa Burritto still remains a favorite of mine and is almost big enough for two people. This location was the first one I ever went to, back in 2001 (which is the year it opened I believe) and I visited a lot since I worked near here at that time also. In those days not only was the food topnotch but the service was always good and added a fun element to any visit despite the long waits. For me, due to fond memories and lots of good visits over several years, I felt the need to review this particular location even though I've only been here a couple times recently. This one still feels like an old friend, and service wise is still one of the better locations when I do come here. What lets it down is the abysmal parking (always has been), and now the added annoyance of the crazy Draper U-Turn type intersections and the fact that getting back to the freeway makes an impromptu visit to this location more frustration than it is worth, however, I'm not going to hold that against it. They just need to move this one to Riverton instead :)

How can this place NOT get five stars?! I've been coming here for years and never knew how much I loved it until I moved to San Francisco and couldn't have it. It's now one of the first places we eat when we come back to Utah. The pork is unbeatable and impossible to replicate--I've tried cooking a million different "Cafe Rio" recipes and none of them even come close. And even if I finally did find the perfect recipe, I would still come back to Cafe Rio. If you're new (which seems unlikely because the whole state knows about this place), don't forget to get a punch card so you can get your FREE MEAL!

We love Cafe Rio food. But this location is the worst at online orders, call in orders, and to go pick up. DONT DO IT. Just go in and wait in the long line to order or be prepared to have your order COMPLETELY wrong. And don't try to beat the dinner rush and order between 4pm-5pm. It seems that they have shift change around then and no one ever knows who was suppose to fill my order, even though on the phone they told me it'd be ready in 15 minutes. It's usually ready in 45minutes because staff has to decide who's gonna make it. I've had my order wrong EVERYTIME I try to save time by ordering online, calling in and using their to go pick up. It's a joke. I only order for my family of 4 and they never get it right.

Thought I'd break from my norn and give this a try.....i thought wrong. Definitely going back to costa vida where the food is fresh and customer service is important. I just didn't feel any love for Rio and the food was mediocre at best. No compelling reason to come back. Plus the traffic and parking were really bad.

Yep! As good as it gets! I love Cafe Rio and I'm originally from San Diego. Best Mexican food ever! Go there! You can bet they'll have 4 to 5 stars!

This is our family's best choice for all tastes but, the last time could be the last. Our salads were noticeably smaller and mine had a hockey puck sized piece of beef grizzle for a large portion of its meat. We also feel the tortillas were under cooked and unappetizing. We thought the crisp tortilla strips that add important texture to be greasy so we removed them. Toppings were barely there and the rather large plastic dome lid that has recently replaced the old standard seems overkill and unfortunately non-recycle able. My son, who always beats the Cafe Rio drum commented that he is glad we don't eat here all the time.

  • Jamie J.

I have come to this cafe rio many times, but the past few have been a little disappointing. I always get the pork burrito enchilada style with hot sauce and pinto beans. The pork is one of the best parts, but the last few times they haven't but enough in it! I just get mouthfuls of sauce and beans and rice. I came here for the meat, people! Please don't skimp on it.

  • Miriam L.

This Cafe Rio seems to be a bit less busy than the others, and the service is great! I love getting the pork quesadilla and my husband loves the chicken salad on a whole wheat tortilla. The ingredients are always fresh, and although not super healthy, the food is always consistently good. The lime pie for dessert is great, but you'll feel like you need to run a marathon to burn off all the calories. It's worth it though.

    (4)
  • Tyler F.

My quesadilla was great. My wife's tostada was quite soupy. She took it back (which she never does) and was told its supposed to be that way. Sure it is, she only gets the tostada like 5 times a month and it is never soggy. Oh well, I guess you can't bat a thousand.

Horrible, horrible customer service. Train your employees better to avoid repeating, yelling, and not understanding (some have heavy, heavy Spanish accents.) food quantity has all but diminished. Salads used to be overflowing. Now it's lucky to be past the rim of the container.

Rate this place as a 3.5 stars. Service was very prompt and friendly. The cashier felt bad that I ordered a taco with only lettuce, salsa, carrots, and guacamole, and reduced its price accordingly. (Would have loved to add rice and beans, but when I had called the restaurant ahead of time to check on whether they were actually vegetarian, I was told that the rice and beans are cooked with chicken stock/some other meat). I only had to pay $5 for that plus a horchata. The food itself was all right, especially the horchata (which I really liked). The only reason I am rating this place lower than 4 stars is because I was disappointed that neither their rice nor beans are vegetarian. As a vegetarian, it would have been nice to be able to order either/both of those. Oh well, its all good.

If you like Cafe Rio, then you will love this location. Same great food you are used to and the staff here is awesome - you'll be in and out faster than you will at a lot of other locations. I've been here many, many times and never had to deal with a messed up order or less than fresh food. I love Cafe Rio and I love the Draper location!

    (4)
  • Rob D.

Not sure why people come here. Draper has a ton of Mexican food choices so don't waste time here. It's the same inside the box, assembly line food from any Cafe Rio, but even if that's your preference, there are other places nearby that have far better service. This place is always crowded, waaaay noisy, and the staff is rude, soft spoken, and rushes you. You're simple treated like cattle. I've tried them a few times to be fair and they've never gotten an order right despite standing right in front of them. The icing on the cake is the parking lot itself. Always full and hard to get around. Whoever designed the parking vs. number of businesses for this little shopping area should give back their engineering degree.

What would be my "last meal?" Well, although a nice steak dinner with rolls at Maddox might be up there, I have to say that the sweet pork burrito from Café Rio would probably top the list. Authentic Mexican it's not, but tasty it is. When many of my Mexican friends tell me their favorite place is Café Rio, you know they're on to something. The sweet pork is perfectly flavored (word on the street is that they marinate the pork in either Coke or Dr. Pepper), and their house creamy tomatillo dressing is an addiction. Service is always efficient yet friendly. Servings are huge, which makes the meal a bit on the pricey side (around $10 for a smothered burrito and a drink), but usually my wife and I end up splitting a meal since they're so big.

    (5)

Great food. The only thing they need to do is get 2 cashiers instead of 6-8 people on the line. The line is long and slow because they have 1 cashier.

You know you've found a good place worth yelping and returning to when you leave the restaurant completely full and still thinking about what you'll order the next time you return. Holy smokes. This place is AMAZING. Forget crapotle! Fresh handmade tortillas, giant portions, reasonable prices and of course, my favorite, a smiley staff, how can I not like this place?!!! Man. I'm liking Utah more by with each meal now! I ordered the Fire grilled steak salad. So I know i know. You're probably thinking that's weak sauce. Or why a salad when you can get something more wholesome and flavor-filled like a burrito or a taco? Well lemme tell you something friends. This salad was everything, but lacking flavors and all that shazam. With a metal tin plate layered with one of Cafe Rio's warm, chewy, but with a good kind of chew tortilla, lettuce, guacamole, savory steak, salsa, rice, beans AND their oh so delicious, i want to drink you creamy tomatilla dressing. Fresh to order. Delicious. Authentic. This place has it all. And.... good news for us so-calians. They've opened up a location in Lake Forest so go and get'em Tigers!

  • Amber S.

Definitely not authentic Mexican food but I still get a hankering for it! It is very tasty I love the sweet pork burritos enchilada style, and their salads. Though I am not a big fan of the pork as a salad, if getting a salad I would opt for steak. I always struggle with what to order! It is not a place I would recommend staying to eat. If you want dinner from here, call your order in ahead and take it home. It is always extremely loud and crowded. All the decor screams cheesy American style Mexican. They are the best fast food Mexican place around!

For some reason, the food at this Cafe Rio location is average, not to mention the parking is nightmare. Tonight, I had a craving for a Cafe Rio salad and was willing to go to this location because it is close to my house, but will NEVER GO BACK! I ordered on-line, my food was to be ready at 6:30p, so I was in the drive thru line at that time. Even though there were already 4 cars in front of me, someone came promptly to my car and I confirmed my order. 45 MINUTES LATER, the same attendant came to my car to again confirm I ordered a salad, and I told him my order should have been ready at 6:30, and he said they were having problems with the kitchen. Finally, I got my salad, got home only to find out they gave me the WRONG SALAD!

This Cafe Rio location is quite close to I-15. One thing to be aware of the is the absolutely crazy traffic pattern you have to go through if you need to head back to I-15. Also the parking lot can become quite full during lunch and dinner time. The food here seems to be the same as all the other locations in the area. It is quite tasty and anything with the pork seems to be a good choice. The salads are quite large and they are like eating an unfolded burrito with more salad. The portion sizes are generous. The lines can be long at times as Cafe Rio is popular with the locals. When in the line it can often be difficult to communicate with the staff as the noise level is quite high.

Never have I been disappointed by the food at Cafe Rio, so good, all of it, there burritos, tacos, salads are all great (although I don't usually get a salad). Bottom line if I'm ever hungry and lookin for good American mex. this is where I go

This place is completely over rated by the locals who have never had real carne asada. They do have 2 things going for them; the freshly made tortillas and the tomatillo dressing. Everything else is low quality/grade. Especially the meat. If you like cafeteria style meat that is not freshly cooked then this is the place for you. I can handle Chipotle meat that has been pre-cooked in small batches but this place you can tell the meat has just been sitting there for a long time. The other issue is that they are super stingy with the meat. I think over time they figured they could just fill your tortilla with rice, beans and lettuce and skimp on the meat.

I came here everyday for lunch when I made a short business trip out to Utah. This place is great! The food is really tasty and reasonably priced. I had their sweet pork and steak burrito salads. They cook tortillas fresh, which they put on the bottom of the bowl for your salad and then proceed to heap on mounds of food. They also give you chopped up chips, which I've always been a big fan of. It gives everything a nice crunch and change in texture. I usually do it myself when I go to a Baja Fresh or another place to put on my tacos or burritos, so it's nice that they thought of that! Place gets pretty busy at lunch usually, but service is extremely fast. Definitely recommend this place!

Is there anything better than walking into a restaurant and seeing flour tortillas being handmade to order? I think not. Their chicken burrito with rice and black beans, enchilada-style with fresh guacamole is one of the most delicious things ever. I have no idea what they do to their chicken, but I would sweep floors to find out. Not only is the food good, the burritos are about the size of a newborn, so if you can make it more than half way through one, you are seriously my hero. The cherry on top is the great staff, who are about a million times happier than I ever was when I worked in restaurants. So, can fast food really be fresh and good? Absolutely!

What would happen if RYU from Street Fighter fired a Hadouken only to be counteracted by a Fatality from Scorpion of Mortal Kombat? The result is what's known as the Cafe Rio Pork Burrito. Seriously, talk about a spinning kick of tongue tickling goodness to your taste buds, this stuff is awesome. Rumor has it, the pork is marinated in a giant bowl of tantalizing awesomeness with secret ingredients of impressive and addictiveness (although this is yet to be confirmed). Pork not your thang? Rio don't hate. They've got chicken, steak, and beef that were raised on rainbows and clouds and fed stars 5x a day. Now, burrito is my go to, but listen hear, enchilada style is a must. Would you ever have a peanut butter and jelly with no peanut butter and jelly? No, that'd be stupid and only be two pieces of bread. Don't do it. Bathe that baby in your favorite sauce. Hot, medium, or mild, there's sure to be one to please your fussiest taste buds. Salads, tostadas, tacos, fideos, nachos, and quesadillas. Just a few others on the Cafe Rio hall of fame. Loyalty, lets talk about loyalty. Screw Taco Bell and that dumb little chihuahua, Come here 10x in 1 day and your 11th meal is free. Drinks are even on them with the free meal. They'll be screaming FREEEEEEE mmmmEEEAAAllll so loud, you'll feel like Publishers Clearing House just showed up in a black van with 2 handfuls of balloons, a camera crew, and some old man saying you've won the billion dollar give away. What makes this place awesome? You. Go there. What to know what else makes this place awesome. Consistency. Every time it rocks my socks! In our lives, we know that death and taxes are 2 things that are consistent and 2 things we can't avoid. Time to make it 3.

This place is consistently fresh and tasty. I am having a love affair with the pork salad, just order it with shredded lettuce. The only drawback is the line which on occasion is borderline ridiculous, but I suppose it is a sign of how good the food is. I have waited eagerly for upwards of 20 minutes for my Cafe Rio fix.

Horrible restaurant. Always crowded and they try and push you out as fast as you can. Not to mention, when we got home our order was completely wrong and the sauce had exploded all over the bag. I will never come here again.

Cafe Rio is great for what it is. The "salads" are great and so are the burritos. The only reason I go to Costa Vida instead of here is when I want the fish tacos. The food is always good and you know it's gonna be good every time because they do it the same way every time!

Not to be mistaken with authentic mexican food, this mexican grill has very high quality, delicious, and somewhat addictive plates! I highly reccomend the Cafe Rio Experience.

Love Cafe Rio, only crappy thing about his place is the parking. Sucks waiting 10 min to park to get food.

What can I say... It's Cafe Rio and it's pretty dang good. This one isn't normally as crowded as some of the others so that is nice.

Everyone repeat after me - "Pork barbacoa burrito, black beans, mild sauce, enchilada style" Make this your mantra, and every visit to Cafe Rio will be delicious. You may be tempted to stray from the path. After all, those fish tacos do sound nice. But trust me, you will ultimately be back to the Pork Burrito. Don't feel bad, though. Finding Cafe Rio's Pork Burrito irresistible is one of life's few guarantees. You know, like taxes. Superlatives for the Pork Burrito aside, Cafe Rio deserves its high rating for a number of reasons. First, its offerings represent one of the best values for your dining dollar in the market. For about the same price as a Carl's Jr "value meal", you get sit-down-restaurant quality Mexican fare at the speed of fast food. The tortillas are made before your eyes, and are one of the best things about dining at Cafe Rio. While its crowning jewel is the Pork Burrito (see above paragraph), the menu is filled with fresh, delicious dishes. One of the most incredible things about the food is how consistent it is. I have eaten at Cafe Rio literally dozens of times, and I have never once been disappointed in the taste, freshness, and quality of the food. That is, in and of itself, a remarkable accomplishment. Though extremely minor, this particular Cafe Rio does have a couple of drawbacks. Due to its location, in the heart of Draper, it is usually packed, and during lunch and dinner the line can be intimidating. Don't be too worried. The hardworking staff pumps out the orders at an alarmingly fast rate. Much worse than the line inside is the horrific parking situation. Whoever approved the vastly deficient space for parking in that little corner of Draper needs to get slapped upside the head with a pork burrito. You will often find the main lot completely full. Exacerbating the parking issue is the newly completed "traffic flow pattern" to get in and out of said parking lot. I'm sure that right now, some sadistic group of engineers is laughing about the labyrinth that was created for the soul purpose of confusing the poor motorists of Draper. It suffices to say that getting in the door is the worst part of the Cafe Rio experience. If you haven't yet tried Cafe Rio, do yourself a favor, and go there immediately. Pork Burrito bliss awaits.

  • Chris R.

Cafe Rio has good food. The pork burrito is definitely the best thing on the menu. If I were judging on taste alone, it would be 4 or 5 stars. A burrito with sour cream and a medium soda will run you almost $11 - a bit pricey in my book. The curbside to-go at this location is extremely slow. You're better off going inside and ordering it there. Parking can be a drag at this location as well. Lastly, if you go for lunch make sure you get there before noon. The lines at 12pm are very long.

Love it and miss it! We live in Indiana now and soooo miss their food. Utah people don't take it for granted! My favorite is shrimp tacos on special nights, but the pork salad never gets old. Thanks Rio for being amazing!

My wife and I LOVE this Cafe Rio. We have gone there 2-4 times a month for over two years and every meal has been delicious and everyone who works there are always so nice. Their prices are reasonable, service is quick and with a smile. We especially like it when they sing "La Bamba!" A great place to eat!

Ordered 2 enchilada plate. Pretty good food when hungry, however I didn't find their choices much different than any other Mexican food restaurant. I was really hoping they had some ace up their sleeve. Will try again sometime in hope of it perhaps growing on me.

Try as I might to avoid franchise restaurants, I've not once been disappointed with an experience at any of the area Cafe Rio locations. I typically get the taco salads, but I've also enjoyed their burritos or nachos on a number of occasions. The ingredients are fresh, the service fast and the portion size is always worth the money. Cafe Rios are usually very busy lunch and dinner destinations so you've always got to keep that in mind when choosing the time and how many people you want in your party. My only complaint is Cafe Rio is typically a very loud restaurant from the kitchen and music and number of customers. All that is understandable, but what is the deal with the horribly loud sound the chairs make on the concrete floors? It is not as bad as nails on a chalkboard, but it also isn't that far off. Again, a highly recommended choice for reliable lunch and dinner fare.

Definitely the best Cafe Rio around. The food is the same no matter which one you go to, but this one has the best/fastest service, and the most spirited workers.

Great smothered burritos and fresh ingredients. Enchilada style is a must! Doesn't get five stars because they charge for anything extra, but still great food.

Food is fresh, fast & outstanding! We had shrimp tacos & fish tacos as their special...under $9 including drink. As a bonus, our kids ate free! Haven't been in a long while & will be frequent visitors from now on! If you haven't tried it, you're missing out!

  • Jim S.

Food is good but staff is horrible. Seem like they are bothered by orders and focused on just chit chatting with each other and screwing off. Zero leadership here. They slop the food together and toss it around and clearly care very little about customer service (like a lot of the other reviews).

The line was very long at the Draper location we waited and waited finally when it was our turn to order we both ordered the Barbacoa salad we got a dab of rice a dab of beans then waited for a very long time while they made more meat. When the meat did come we noticed it didn't seam fully seasoned. It was cooked but but lacked the flavor. It will be a very long time before we eat there again and defiantly not between Christmas and New Years when so busy as it was hard for them to keep up the demand.

Absolutely!

Cafe Rio is as good as it gets fast food Americanized Mexican food. Try the steak or sweet pork burrito enchilada-style (medium sauce)... You won't be disappointed!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
