Imagine having a friend who is a master chef and makes the best food. That is the best way I can describe this place. I love GOOD food, descent portions, and I don't need fancy. This place is perfect. It is laid back, nice chef, and serious food. Would go back again and again...

I'm not sure why anyone is giving less than 5 stars. This is an experience not a fast food chain. We walked in at just the perfect time on Saturday just as Chef Hai opened. I had heard good things but had no clue what to expect. We were alone in the restaurant and celebrating our anniversary and Chef Hai was not only a great host but literally expounded on life lessons we honestly won't forget. My wife literally was brought to tears with emotion from a quote he shared with us!! Anyway, Food Was Amazing!! There's no menu and if your taste is chain restaurants then maybe this adventure isn't for you. He said he would cool anything we wanted. We said Chicken, a little spice, coconut curry and lots of frag veggies (Pssss there's a dietician on his staff and that means fresh and healthy and you taste that in every bite). I've never had a better Thai dish. He surprised us with fresh cheesecake and a chocolate cupcake that was easily a gourmet desert. I would recommend this place to anyone with taste buds, spark up a convo with the Chef, he's a tiny bit eccentric, from his mouth not mine, but he loves the experience of eating and good convo and good people. We will return many many times.

Go with an open mind and let the chef make all the decisions. He's got a bit of an ego but don't argue with him. ..the Food is amazing so his ego is justified. We had the chef special stir fry with lobster, scallops, shrimp, chicken, salmon, veggies and an amazing sauce. About $20 per person. Don't ask for prices. .. he'll say he can't tell you the price until he knows what he's going to put into your dish. Let him be creative and you won't be sorry.

Wow! You all giving Thyme and Seasons five-star reviews have it spot on! My wife and I had an amazing evening with excellent food. Thank you for all your detailed reviews. usually the first sign of a good restaurant is the number of cars in the parking lot, tonight the lot was completely full. The restaurant provides a lot to take in, as we entered, a white board had a note to wait to be seated. We were graciously invited to one of just a couple empty tables. We walked over to get our drinks and were greeted by Chef Hai, he was very direct asking us if we wanted meat or seafood, we both opted for seafood, next option was several seafood choices, including shrimp, scallops, lobster, swordfish, and tuna, along with several others. My wife asked for shrimp and I opted for tuna. that was it, he went to the kitchen while we returned to our table. While we enjoyed our very tasty salads, I thought back to the first time I had tuna a whole bunch of years ago. As I anticipated what might be coming I was concerned that I didn't have a second to confirm with the Chef that I really enjoy tuna rare, and not very often have I received a finely cooked tuna. My wife received her meal, a shrimp and vegetable stir-fry, it was visually stunning, and a very satisfying portion. My tuna arrived along with Chef Hai, his directions to me were to cut into the tuna to ensure it was done correctly. It was done perfectly, it had a perfect sear, season, and sauce on the outside and rare center. it was also huge! This was one of those dining experiences we will remember for years, great food, eclectic surroundings, and engaging staff. A little pricey, but we had been prepared for it thanks to the other great reviews. We are certain to now be regulars!

I was first introduced about Thyme & Season by an old friend of mine. The restaurant seems like a hole-in-the-wall when I first wall in, and mostly decorated like a grocery store with a cafeteria attached to it. The setup can be rather strange if you never visited before, if you are lucky, the chef table might be emptied, that is usually where I prefer to sit, otherwise you just seat at an empty table and the chef will come take your order when he is available. They really should have a sign posted near the entrance. Chef Hai has a rather odd personality, maybe it is one of those top chef personalities. Some may even call it eccentric. He looks Vietnamese, but he only speaks English. I tried to order a big bowl of Pho one time, and he was like "no, I would never serve something like that to you, try something else." (Probably because I am Asian) Ordering can be simple or as complicated as you want. Basically pick a protein on his list on the board, which is whatever is in season, then choose a style you want him to cook it. First time I got Ribeye Steak with Italian style, so he served that with pasta. The steak was nice hot and juicy, and I would say it was one of the best in town. Those were pretty amazing pasta, probably my top choice among his sides. Another time I got the steak Asian style, and he served with a mix of stir fried veggie and sided with rice. The steak was pretty good, but the Asian fusion with sauce and rice did not work too well, so I am probably sticking with western style when it comes to steak. The chef did a Lobster special for me with a bunch of stir fried clams underneath, this worked better than the steak, since Asian style went well with seafood. The chef did not spare on the ingredients, as it was a huge lobster tail and the clams were nice and fresh, reminds me of those popular Chinese stir fried clam dishes. It definitely will be a fresh experience every time you visit here, since his ingredient list do change over time, and certain items are only available on the weekend like the Prime Ribs. He also sells Carolina Reaper peppers here, and claims to be the only one in state that does. I tried one, it was ok spicy... others may disagree. The chef would not put it in his dishes for cost reason though. It was definitely a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere at Bountiful.

I really wanted to order food for 40 people for a week and the owner was very rude and wouldn't take my order. I am very disappointed. You just missed out on over $5K buddy. Thanks for not helping.

If you are looking for a new kind of dining experience this is the place to go! I went with 3 other people and tried every dish and they were all incredible in their own way. Uniquely different flavors in each dish. The Chef was extremely personable and friendly. I love everything about this place from start to finish!

Well we went in thinking this place was going to be glorious, but it fell flat. Really flat. The owner/chef is really friendly and nice. The service is great. He does a short q&a upon your arrival if this is your first time to give you the run down of how things go. He will remind you pretty often that he is a four star chef and his wife is a dietician. Even with a great resume, the food was sorely lacking. My husband got the prime rib and I've had much better before. It was really lacking flavor and honestly did not seem like the best cut of meat. I had one of the seafood options with pasta. The option I chose did not seem flavored very well and there was not much mixed in with the pasta. The pasta was full of herbs but still managed to be bland. Edit: One of the other reviews said it well. I was hoping for savory but nothing we got was even close. I won't even try this place again because it takes awhile, the food was really disappointing (dare I say bad), and the atmosphere really could use a lot of work. I'm sorry to all the loyals and the wonderful, sweet, chef but I just cannot get aboard this bandwagon.

Oh maaannnnn...I wanted...so wanted this to be an amazing experience. Starting from the beginning... 1. This place is not fancy inside or out. I'ts part restaurant, part store. Not a big deal if the food is fabulous right? When we walked in we just kinda stood in the door way until Chef Hai noticed us and asked us what we wanted. To eat of course! So he told us to sit at the bar where some of the food is made. Then he asked us what we wanted. Having read all the reviews we told him we really like seared tuna and steak. He told us to go help ourselves to the soda machine while he made the food. Still excited we got our drinks and waited. 2. Chef Hai brought us out a small sampling of the steak to taste. That's when I knew we were in trouble. Super sweetish bland. Right then I should have asked him to spice it up but I didn't want to offend him. (My bad) He then brought out the entire steak with a small bowl of pasta in some sort of sauce. Steak...super sweetish bland. Pasta...super sweetish bland. I kept trying to sneak salt and pepper on everything without Chef Hai seeing in fear of him getting upset. 3. Next came seared tuna. Looked delicious! Took my first bite. Super sweetish bland. It came with a small bowl of rice. Bland. And a salad which was...you guessed it...super sweetish bland. 4. Chef Hai then gave us a small gluten free cupcake and chocolate dipped strawberry. I took one bite of the tiny cupcake and left the rest. It was more bland than white bread. Here is the thing. Everything was cooked very well but the flavors were not there. Like...at all! There was no savory element what-so-ever. I longingly stared at the hot sauces, pepper flakes and salt behind the counter the entire time I ate. Everything was just so bland and...well...sweet. I just don't get it! Chef Hai is a really, really nice and personable guy but his cooking is not all it's cracked up to be. I'm very sad about that especially for the amount of money we spent.

I don't even have the words to describe how amazing the food here. I would give it more stars if I could! Incredibly fresh ingredients and incomparable seasoning. You can tell that Hai truly has a passion for food and what he does.

Don't be fooled by the hole in the wall appearance, this place is awesome! Not knowing what to expect when we first walked in, Chef Hai greeted us and asked us what we were in the mood for and I asked for a menu. He said he didn't have a menu and would make whatever we were in the mood for. I was craving some pad thai and my girl wanted curry and he pretty much just whipped it up right then and there. The food was super fresh and tasty. He made chicken pad thai and a butternut squash curry. It was pretty unique restaurant experience. Chef Hai was definitely a character and made eating there super enjoyable, we also had some french pastries he made which were amazing! I'll have to come back and try some other dishes he can whip up.

I have been here a few times and have always had a good meal. On this last visit I had the prime rib and my wife had the salmon. We sampled each others food and both enjoyed what we tasted but it could have been slightly better. For the prime rib I would have loved to have a side of au jus and some creamy horseradish served with it. The temperature of the prime rib was a bit over for my preference, I like a good amount of pink and red showing. The potatoes were a bit bland and needed a good dose of salt before eating. For the salmon...it was perfect, some of the best I have ever had. The risotto served with the salmon was bland like the potatoes and needed salt. Like the potatoes, after a good seasoning it was pretty good. Like I said, I have always had a good meal here and will return. The place is cluttered with odds and ends laying around and could use a good declutter.

The Thai Chicken Stir Fry is some of the freshest, most flavorful food I have had...ever. Seriously! It does look like a dive, but just amazing! And so healthy! I tried the creme brulee for dessert. Perfect silky texture and a really lovely vanilla flavor! Chef Hai is amazing in his knowledge of foods and their health benefits.

This place is a fun little hole in the wall. The owner is quirky, he can come off as a little rude to some people. But it's just part of his personality, don't be offended , he is out spoken. The sea food is very fresh. He also employs the disabled to assist, which is a incredible act of service. Fun little spot, try it

This was my first time, the NY steak and salmon was great. Great portions love the fusion mixing Asian flavor and american dish. Chief Hai is great fresh vegetables and fresh fish he brings in. Its a great hole in the wall place love it.

The chef takes your order and is really confident in the quality and taste of his food. And I gotta say its a hole in the wall but seafood and steak is on point! Delicious! I've lived in bountiful for many years and never knew this is place was a restaurant, the Nigerian shrimp is huge and cooked to perfection! The New York steak is cut well and cook perfectly no extra sauce needed. You gotta try this yourself because the chef talks big talk and I gotta give it to him it was delicious. HIGHLY recommend THE PRIME RIB!

This place is down right interesting. You must come with an open mind or you could be easily shocked and disappointed. Is it a market or a restaurant. Confusing! When you go inside you think it may be a market but as you cruise the place its more like a warehouse. Chef needs to straighten up things a bit so they can be inviting to shop or at least be able to walk down the aisles. If you like knowing How much your dish is going to cost ahead of time, or what you will be eating ahead of time, this is not the place for you. If you are picky about what you eat or what you can eat, this place is not for you. You have to be an adventurous eater. The decor is not warm nor inviting, and chef is a little on the abrasive side. I don't have a lot of friend that would appreciate this type of dining. Not suite If I will return.

  • Kimberlee W.

The chef comes to your table and takes your order, my husband had the pot roast and I had the salmon. We had our kids with a s and they make Mac-n-Cheese feel r the kids. The Mac-n-Cheese is not like normal kids food, so if you have picky eaters beware... If you are thirsty you get your own drinks and it is $$ a little costly. But the food is very good!! Like fine cuisine, not your typical restaurant chain...

OK I'm from CA and I do a lot of traveling and I have had steaks from restaurants before and they always ask how do you want your steak cooked, this time they didn't ask and I was kind of worried, but man Chef Hai is the man, Not only was he super friendly, but he definitely knows his food we talked about food, business and sports I usually want to eat in quiet (maybe I'm use to horrible service), but I enjoyed this interaction. I had the BIGGEST cut of New York Steak I have seen in a while, Chicken Pad Thai, and some kind of pasta and trust me it was all delicious. Please try this place and a added bonus he does cooking classes I wished I lived closer I would definitely take a few classes and support this business

Always creative, fresh, and some of the most exotic dishes I have had anywhere! From Phuket lobster, live New Zealand green muscles, live king scallops, to some of the best beef in the state. Chef Hia has a talent for blending unique flavors to wonderful classics like saffron. If you enjoy food, you will enjoy Thyme & Seasons.

Total High End Gourmet. If the food was in a fancier setting, the costs would easily be over $100 per couple. Thank goodness, its not that pricey. But food of that quality takes time, so expect to wait. Especially if other diners are there.

I've been to Thyme and Seasons about... 6 times now and plan on going back for many more meals. First time my mother and I walked in was around lunch time. We didn't read the hours on the door, so we didn't realize he was almost closing until the dinner hours. At first we didn't know where we had just walked into. It's kind of unkempt and doesn't look like your typical restaurant. The man behind the counter waved us in and told is to sit down wherever we'd like. I can understand how some people may not "mesh" with Chef Hai at first. He's a gruff, crass, Vietnamese New Yorker. I, personally being from the east coast, felt at home. We didn't know what to order and he said "Are you picky?" My mom and I both shook our heads and I said "We just love good food." He said "You have stolen my heart." He basically just put food in front of us. My mom got the butternut squash chicken curry. I'll be honest, it looks like baby food at first (what curry doesn't) but it is fantastic, probably one of my favorite dishes. I got some grilled chicken pasta. The seasoning is great, everything is cooked just right. The portions are HUGE. Seriously, I don't know what human could eat everything you get in one sitting. He has a giant menu and makes everything to order. If you talk to him about his business, you really understand this is a guy who just loves good food. He loves feeding people. It's usually just him in there doing everything. He takes your order, cooks, and gets the bill. Prices are very competitive. He doesn't put the prices on the board because everything is market value (meat and seafood, anyways). The regular dishes like the stir fry's and such are around 12-15 bucks a piece. Meat and seafood is obviously more expensive cause he gets everything fresh and uses the best cuts. Every time I have gone with my husband we get out of there for under 40 bucks with leftovers and a free gluten-free cupcake (eat it, you won't regret it). If you're sensitive about "rude" people, get over it. He's not rude. The guy knows what he's doing. Be open, let Chef Hai feed you and you'll have a great experience. If you choose to be uptight, so will he.

Chef Fitzgerald is AWESOME! Loved the food, loved the hospitality! Educational experience! Healthy food, incredible quality, great hosts! Got to try the purple rice! Salmon was fresh and flavorful, prime rib melted in my mouth, definitely doesn't skimp on quality! Thanks Hai for having us!

My wife and I went to Tyme & Seasons on Saturday. It is always incredible but I want to give a special shoutout on the Salmon. Two weeks ago, my wife and I went to LaCaile for Valentine's Day. My wife had salmon at LaCaile that was not half as good as Tyme & Seasons. Thanks Tyme & Seasons.

Loved this place. I am pregnant so he wouldn't let me have any seafood (which I dearly wanted). But we had a steak, pas Thai, and the butternut curry chicken. All was delicious. The steak was super tender and not your typical seasonings. The Pad Thai was unique and fresh! The chef was funny and we got along great. Go prepared to hang out for a while, it was good fun. Oh we also bought their purple rice mix which is delicious. Plus he made these delicious gluten free cupcakes for everyone complimentary. They. Were. Delicious. Honestly, best cupcakes I have ever had gluten or not!

Warning this is a long one: Chef Hai (aka the original soup Nazi is what he calls himself) and Thyme and Seasons are amazing. We walked in and he asked us "do you have a cold?". We were a little thrown off and confused but when we asked why he explained he has a soup his "patients" enjoy called 'soup for your cold' where he asks your symptoms and creates a soup catered to beat your sickness. We will definitely be back to try that out this season. He doesn't really have a menu so what you are going to eat and what you are going to pay is a bit of a surprise. However if you can get past that then you are going to have a great experience. I believe eating a great meal should be an experience. I think Chef Hai makes it one. I felt like I was hanging out with a friend who happens to be a genius chef. Anyways we asked right after if he serves Pho. He asked us why then gave us a Pho quiz and then lesson and let us know the stuff we've been eating is crap. AND after eating his Pho I can agree with that! It is the real deal and real fresh. He hand makes his meatballs and has fresh brisket in his Pho and it is good. His broth is handmade takes 36 hrs to make from bones (how real soup is made). PS NEVER ask for chicken or seafood Pho its kind of a rule of his and you will never get him to make for you to go. But get over it, it's in your best interest. I watched all the other dishes he prepared and I can't wait to try whatever else he can come up with!! See you soon Chef Hai!

Hit and miss with us here. We used to be frequent visitors until we decided it wasn't worth the risk for how pricey the food can be. My experience has been that I've had some of the yummiest food I've ever eaten or my meal was completely un edible. Service has either been fantastic and we were treated like royalty or so crappy my husband vowed to never return. After the second meal of not even being able to take more than two bites of my food (way way too salty or extremely bland-a to go meal) and being too afraid of chef Hai to ask for something different or return it (he has a strong personality and can be intimidating), we've all but given up on visiting.

Food was good. No real stand out flavor. I had the Atlantic salmon. Service was ok. The chef came to our table about 15-20 minutes after I sat down and started taking my order than half way through he just walked away. He came back a couple of minutes later and than finished taking my order. Other staff were helpful and nice.

Good was great. He is the original soup nazi, but in a good way. An interactive dinner. It a ribeye which he cut off a big slab in front of me. It was of excellent quality. My date had scallops. They were also done well. The side pasta for my steak was also pleasant. Additionally the atmosphere was perfect. The menu is unclear, you tell the chef what you want, he does something that fits with his own opinion and presto!!! The chef was quite pleasant to converse with and has strong opinions. It worked well for us. Total bill $34 plus tip. Wowowow. We will definitely come back on our next ski extravaganza.

One of the best restaurants in the salt lake valley. Definitely the best I've been to in southern Davis county. Would recommend for sure. Thanks chef Hai.

My parents and sister came to visit today on their way to Idaho from California. The plan was to go out to dinner with my brother and me tonight and since I have the most restrictive diet (my body and gluten do not get along), I was assigned the task of finding a restaurant that I could eat at before they came. Last week I was in the middle of a 12 mile run and I passed Thyme and Seasons Marketplace and noticed the banner that read: "100+ gluten free dishes". Sold. That's where I decided we would go and wished I could have stopped in then instead of running another 6 miles. I even liked the name itself. I've got an appreciation for puns and word play. This place has a "living menu". Talk to the chef to see what he's got and he'll make you what you want according to what he has available. Thanks to other yelper's reviews I was prepared for this, and warned my family going in, but it still didn't go over so well with my sister who has some anxiety and decision making hang ups especially in new situations as well as a sensitive stomach. The chef seemed rude in dealing with her at first, but explained he was from New York and was self-proclaimed obnoxious. We had a rough start, but by the end of the meal we were all laughing with the chef and had a great time. My sister got a chicken noodle soup, my parents got chicken stir fry, my brother had butter nut squash curry, and I asked the chef if he would surprise me as long as it was gluten free. I was presented with a ginormous steak with a side of rice and a sprout salad type deal. The overall flavor was unique and for lack of a better word: yummy. Everyone enjoyed their food. The portion sizes were very generous. I came home with enough for a second dinner and shared a bite or small cut of my meat with everyone at my table. Towards the end of our meal the chef offered us each a gluten free Belgian chocolate cupcake. He says all of his pastries are gluten free. Sweet. They were delicious. Some weird things: When we first pulled into the parking lot we weren't sure if it was open (Tuesday night around 6:45). There was only one car in the lot and there were what looked like packing boxes in the window and it seemed kind of deserted. We almost drove away, but saw someone inside and the door slightly ajar so we ventured inside anyway. We were the only ones there. After we ordered a few other people came in and sat at the counter. The chef said the night before he had 28 (or was it 36? I forget) people there by 7pm. We were there at quarter to and it stayed pretty empty the whole time we were there. I guess it was a slower night tonight, but from the sounds of it, it does get busy. It appears this chef owns and runs this place all on his own. He took our order, made our food, served us and rang up our bill. I never saw another worker there. We weren't offered any drinks, but we saw a soda fountain with some cups and we helped ourselves to cups of water while our food was being prepared. Once we had our food my brother needed a spoon to eat his almost (thick) soup-like butternut squash, but there were only forks on the table. He refused to take my suggestion of just putting his face in his plate, and found some plastic spoons at the counter and took one from there to use instead. When we were finished, we again helped ourselves to a to-go box we saw sitting on the counter for our unfinished food and approached the chef to pay the bill. There are no set prices to look at because there is no set menu. For our party of 5 with the above meals the bill came to somewhere around $65 (before the tip). Over all it was a fun, interesting experience. I wouldn't hesitate to return. There were a few weird things about it being a first visit and not quite knowing what to expect, but the food was great, the price turned out to be decent, and it's nice to find gluten free friendly places.

After reading reviews, I decided to give this place a try. Pulled into parking lot at 6 PM on a Saturday and it was empty. We were the only patrons, which worried us. And it should have. I'm not sure what all the hype is about this place. The chef was inviting and gave us a rundown of the menu (which is written on a white board). He seemed VERY impressed with himself and assured us that he feeds tons of people each week (he was quoting how much seafood and stir fry by pound - which was weird. He also told us a million times how everything is fresh made, yet our meals were out very quick). We ordered mac & cheese for the kids. Totally flavorless noodles in a milky sauce. Husband had a steak, which was super raw and flavorless. The mashed potatoes were cold. I had the vietnamese bun. It was 50% bean sprouts, awfully cooked noodles, and the chicken was tougher than nails. It was also overall very flavorless. Daughter wanted a cupcake, so we ordered a few - weren't even edible. It's also horrible ambiance. More like a diner with hard chairs and tables, no menus, and you have to get up to get your own drinks. For the price, I want to be waited on. I'm really disappointed as this is reviewed as the best place to eat in Bountiful - perhaps it was an off night, but I was seriously unimpressed.

I think the other Yelpers did a very accurate job of reviewing this joint, refer to their reviews for an adequate description. Pros: funky style, eclectic, vibrant, super funny owner, fresh food - artfully prepared, can watch chef prepare chow while you eat, very original sense of humor Cons: pricey (cheapest thing on the lunch menu is $11), felt kinda street foodish (watching Chef Hai nosh on food while preparing it lol), needs more ambience -- perhaps some background music (Metallica, something from Vietnam, anything...???) Part of the experience eating out is ambience, not just food. Ordered the Pho (never had Pho before). Huge portion, definitely good and prepared by a man from Vietnam. Homemade meat balls, some kind of flank steak, noodles, fresh basil, etc, etc. I can't compare it to Pho in other places, because it was the first time I had ever had pho....it was good. Can taste the fresh organic nature of the food (MSG NOT included). All in all, if I lived in the hood, I'd come here for dinner from time to time. It's a little pricey for lunch. The menu and offerings sound amazing, though. The chef is definitely part of the sell here and worth checking out.

Stopped in for lunch after reading a couple reviews here on yelp. Glad we did. Chef Hai was engaging and fun and sat down to give us a couple recommendations. He interacted with all the customers, checked on everyone's satisfaction and passed out a free Belgian chocolate dessert. Worth the stop and will come back next time I'm in town.

This place is awesome!! The owner/chef is an interesting dude. If you're scared to talk to strangers and you like your restaurant experiences to be completely predictable, then yeah, I suppose this might not be the place for you. But if you're even just a little bit adventurous, or have some dietary restriction, or just want a huge pile of affordable and delicious food, you need to come here. My friend and I spent hours here chatting with the owner and his regular customers as they came in and out. When we came in, he said "So, what do you eat?" We each got custom meals (he made sure they sounded good to us before he started making them) and I had the only Thai curry I have ever liked. And I liked it a LOT. We managed to stick around long enough to get a bunch of samples - vegetarian fake duck meat, meatballs being made for Pho, gluten free cheesecake, Belgian chocolate cake... everything was amazing. We had so much fun. Next time I'm ordering Pho - we saw him make it a couple times throughout the night and it looked better than any Pho I've ever seen.

One of my favorite restaurants anywhere in the world. I really like all the seafood preparations that he does, especially the grilled ahi, mango salmon, and amazing lobster. Chef Hai is super nice and always has been accommodating of all me, my friends and family's dietary restrictions and preferences. 5 stars hands down

Came here upon a recommendation from a friend while I was working out of town. I loved it! Hai is very welcoming and definitely gives you that nice at home feeling. I recommend sitting at the counter to dine. Hai will talk to you as he cooks your food. I loved it so much I ate there the next day as well. His Belgium chocolate cupcakes are awesome! I wished I live in Utah, this would be my usual dining spot. THANKS for an amazing experience.

This place is an "experience". This is my first restaurant review and I couldn't NOT write one after eating dinner here. We came on new years eve and were served (no menu, you just sort of say what you "feel like having") filet mignon, purple rice, some incredible pasta, a crazy good pad Thai dish and flambéed salmon with black garlic and a really yummy sauce on top. Chocolate cheesecake muffins for dessert! It was soo good-every item had an amazingly rich flavor and he uses fresh herbs on all of it. He refilled our plates twice and we ate until we were stuffed. While we were there I also saw him Make someone salmon pasta with broccoli which smelt soo incredible and he was brewing up a big pot of the best looking Vietnamese phó I've EVER seen. I can't wait to go back and try that! Anyway, I will be back a LOT. It was super fun, the owner/cook was pretty odd but funny and a genius of a chef. They also have 100+ gluten free options which is always a bonus!!

This was a difficult one to review. The food was actually really good (4 stars) the set up and way things were done was a little weird and not my thing. By this I mean - the ambiance was 1 star, don't get me wrong, I'm all about the food - but we (party of six) sat at a lunch counter (great if I was eating alone but not with friends). Also, there was no menu or pricing. He just fed us a lot of different things he had (some excellent, some not) it was a lot of food for sure! Then a bill was calculated and WOW a little on the pricey side - but how could we complain, the chef was very engaging and nice (again not great if your with a group of friends you want to chat with). Even though the food was mostly good, I'm not sure I'd go back - maybe, if I'm going stag and in need of bartender like conversation.

Play by play. I swore it off, bur here goes again. Man I have a hard time with this guy's personality. I left without ordering. When asked what I'd like to eat, I replied "I'm not sure". His reply was "then I'm not sure I want to cook for you". Maybe I'm being over sensitive, but at the moment , I got nothing good to say about this joint.

So delicious! I had the chef choose the meal. The meal was huge, so I took the rest home.

Superb. My favorite restaurant in Utah. There may be better iterations of specific entrees at specific places -- one place may have a better steak, another may have a better salmon fillet. But at this place everything is going to be good, and the chef / owner often visits tables giving personal attention.

The food is good, inexpensive, and comes in huge portions. The Chef (Hai Fitzgerald) has created an informal atmosphere--you can order something, or he can make something for you structured around what you want you eat or what you can't eat. He's also persistent in making sure that everyone (including travel-weary children) gets fed well.

This place has really great food as long as your flexible. There is no menu, the chef asks you what you feel like, and makes you food. I can see how some people get frustrated with the style. But I've been there twice and the food was great!

We love going here and always love to return. We never know what to expect when we get there, but that is part of the experience. I tried the prime rib on Saturday and loved it. This restaurant is an unknown gem in Bountiful.

I totally agree with the other reviews, including the one from overly-sensitive Ty - who was caught off-guard and didn't "get" the experience. This place is a lot of fun, in a very weird eclectic sort of way. It's like no where else I've ever been.... except maybe going to someone's house for dinner. DON'T come in with any pre-conceived ideas, it's just better that way. Previous posters have tried to tell you, but the experience is one that you'll just have to get for yourself. There's a trend toward shopping local - and that's what this is about. You're eating from a local guy who makes his own rice (purple) blends, and spice rubs. He hires the local "mentally challenged" kids - who, after working with him for 6 months, can go on and get a job at other food prep establishements. It's as local, and community-oriented as a place can get. That's part of its charm. As Ty pointed out, Hai has a very odd sense of humor that may be off-putting for some people. I found it refreshing. I told him I didn't want carbs, so he suggested beef and brocolli - which he served with an empty plastic bowl which he literally tossed to me, saying "there's your rice". Both my wife & son are GF. My son wanted salmon, and was very pleased with a mango-sauce and cheesy mashed potatoes that came with it. My wife wanted seafood, but not salmon - so he whipped up a shrimp & scallops concoction. Get there early (5:30 ish on a Friday), like we did, and the chef (Hai) will invite you to the counter - with 4-5 others. When we left, there were over 30 people at tables - and I don't know how he fed them all, since he's chef & waiter. PLUS, like Valter in SLC, he comes to each table to visit with people, joke, welcome them if they've never been there before, ask how they heard about him, etc. My son said Hai is his new GFF (gluten-free friend), and my wife said it was like having "dinner and a show". Not so much that there was a lot of flourish with the meal prep... just that the experience was soooo different from the norm. (For instance, while eating our salads, which come with dinner, he was cutting prime rib off the bone, and just dropped a rib on each of the plates of the people at the counter. At first, I was surprised, and after tasting it, I was glad he didn't have a dog. The meat was like butter and almost melted off the bone. To some people getting a mangled bone dropped on your plate (without your permission, and without warning) might be a turn-off... but it's just his humor, and his way.). I'm not saying it was the greatest food in the universe - yet it was VERY good, but in support of what he does, how he does it, and the WAY he does it... I give him five stars. (BTW: With tax & tip, the bill for 3 was $60... which I thought was pretty fair - though, since there's no menu - one has NO idea how much the meal costs, until you go to the counter to pay up.). This place is NOT gourmet. It's NOT for everyone. It's NOT a chain experience. It's not like any experience you've ever had. The guests talk to one another from table to table, or at the counter. One customer (Randy) had just returned from Belgium, and passed around Belgian chocolates to ALL 30 customers. It's that kind of place. A place without pretense. Leave your ideas of having dinner at a normal restaurant in the parking lot. You've been warned. It's very weird, but very cool. If you don't mind having your sensibilities challenged, you'll love it like we did.

Chef Hai is like no one you've ever met! I live in the area but travel all over the Rocky Mountain region for work. So I get the opportunity to eat at a lot of great places. This dining experience, has got to be the most memorable one to date. I took a co-worker here that I was traveling with and not only did we have the best, freshest, and most delicious pad Thai, ever, chef hai took me back in his kitchen and showed me how to make a easy pasta dish. He had asked us what we did for work, and when we told him we were in sales for a well known global manufacturing company, he just started raving about our company and wanted to get to know more about what we did. He's the definition of hospitality and made the dining experience all about us. You can't find someone with more passion for his restaurant and for life, than you find with chef hai! I plan on coming back frequently! Also, side note for all you ladies looking to get a ring on your finger - one of his claims to fame is his homemade MSG free seasons. He says if you cook for a man with this seasoning, you'll be married by spring...

Again, kudos to the Chef! We arrived late on a Monday and Chef Hai stayed open late for us. The Thai Chicken hit the spot and my wife enjoyed the squash curry. This, as stated, not your typical restaurant so don't come with that mindset. Come with the mind set your eating at a friends house and you'll be better prepared. The food is really off the charts.

When we don't want to drive to Layton or Salt Lake, we (wife n I) usually end up here for our health dinners. Wok'ed veggie and beef or chicken, gluten free, and great company with chef Hai. A staple of our Bountiful dinning. Sample his desserts. Pretty solid!

I have never enjoyed a dining experience more great than this! The food was INCREDIBLE and Chef Hai is so personable and accommodating! I cannot wait to take my friends and family there again and again!!! No menu, no pricing but it's all a part of the sweet experience. You are truly missing out if you pass up this gem!

This place is awesome. No menus. If you ask for the chiefs table you get to try lots of new stuff. Everything here is good. I don't think I've been to a better restaurant the whole time I lived in Bountiful. It was funny to hear him rip on the other places to eat around there because he is completely right.

Interesting place.... I'm not sure what else to call it. The chef basically comes to your table and asks you what you want. No menu, except the one by the door on the way in (I didn't even see it until we sat down). The chef has a few things written on the stainless steel behind the open kitchen line, fish, pork, and a few other specials... Thank goodness we went with some friends that have been there before. We told the chef to bring us what he recommends. We had a nice salad with a great Asian dressing, some basil chicken one pasta, BBQ pork & chicken, salmon, Mahai Mahai,, some purple rice with some kind of Asian vegetable on top... & I cant remember what else... and it was all very good. The place could use a little cleaning up in the restaurant, some areas have some clutter and some areas don't make any sense at all, but I think that's part of the charm. I'm going to go back and try to order off the menu and see what happens. Stay tuned.... More to come.

Chef Hai is one of a kind as is Thyme and Seasons. The best way to eat here is to have Chef Hai suggest to you what you should eat. His dishes are superb and the atmosphere is wonderful. The restaurant is rather plain looking from the outside, but the magic begins when you step into the restaurant and begin your experience by talking to Chef Hai and having him explain what he has available that day. We live in Northern California and have had kids at BYU and good friends in the Salt Lake area and we never go to Utah without stopping at Thyme and Season.

Wow! Fresh food, cooked/made in front of your eyes. The sauce in the stirfry is AMAZING, as are the vegetables and everything else. Rice is so new and fresh, it is totally different than average rice. The couple next to us had fresh lobster. Chef Hai is warm and engaging, whipping us up just what we wanted so quickly. First time I went there, I couldn't wait to get back. Now, been there twice, and still planning how I can get there next. I live 30 minutes away, and it is worth the drive!! You leave feeling good and healthy, not like you've just eaten a bunch of grease & garbage.

Great food! The chef is really friendly and makes everything from scratch. The portions are really large and very healthy. Lunch for 3 of us was $44 and worth every cent.

Frankly, if you've never eaten here, you are missing out on a great experience. Ask for the chef's table, you will not be disappointed. Seriously, it would be worth the drive from anywhere in the valley.
