Wonderfully flavorful Indian dishes. We ordered chicken coconut kurma and butter chicken with rice and naan. Every bite was delicious! Staff kept forgetting stuff, but we were with a large party. Only real negative was noise level.

I'm happy to report that our friends at Royal India have made much progress in their service department. We've visited multiple times in the last few weeks with exceptional response from the staff. The food at Royal India is fantastic. I am a fan of the Kurma and the lamb is tender, flavorful, and better than most that I have had in the valley. The different heat levels give ordering options and can range from soup to burn your socks off. These guys are awesome to work with when it comes to ordering around the menu. The wife likes a mix of the chicken and vegetable masala to add some flavor levels. They don't blink an eye when she orders it and it always comes out to order. Lots of appetizers to choose from and several desserts to top it off if you can fit it in.

Everything was delicious! The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. I live in Los Angeles and both my Husband and I would be here at least once a week if they were closer to us! A lucky Yelp find on our vacation.

Best India food in Utah in our book! Everything we have tried we have loved! Haven't found anything we do not like! The naan is super soft and super good. We go here all the time. Our go to Indian food fix!

Okay, after going here for many years it's time to do the review. Tonight's meal was as good as I have had there so I have given a five star review, not because they are an overall five star place, but, for the town of Bountiful, a food desert, this is truly one of the best options. And for overall quality of Indian food, it is one of the most consistent in the Salt Lake metro area. We had the lamb coconut korma and fish curry, which tonight was made with mahi mahi. Both were flavorful and had a quality sauce unique to their respective dish. The mahi mahi was ordered spicy, but was a bit mild, typical for "spicy" dishes in Davis county. The garlic nan was flavorful as was the basmati rice which came on the side. After at least seven visits here, I can say that the Royal India restaurant does a fine job with its cuisine and is one of the best places to eat in Bountiful.

Fantastic food and service. Ordered many different items and they all had there own unique flavor. A hidden gem in Bountiful. A place you must try.

My mom and I tried Royal India tonight for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. Having dated an Indian for 10 yrs, I always have low expectations, but found the menu options to be more authentic and a wider variety of the type of dishes I prefer. I had the Malai Kofta (fried vegetable balls in a tomato curry, similar to butter chicken), which is one of my favorites and often hard to find. It was delicious! They also had Aloo Paratha (potato stuffed flaky bread), again a favorite and delicious! I only wish they had one or two South Indian dishes. But I will definitely be back!!

This is the best Indian food I have ever had. It's small and quiet. I had chicken Masada, sticking to the basics, and it was great. My friend had a lentil dish that was very different and way good. And the bread is one of my favorite parts and their Naan was fantastic!

Great service! Great food! We love this place. Perfect for a night out with the wife away from the kids. :) If you haven't tried it yet, you should.

Awesome! Always fresh good quality food. We ordered chicken Coconut Korma and lamb masala. We love the naan as well. Try the Cardamon ice Cream it's great!

This is becoming our go-to spot. We usually get seated right away with prompt attention from the servers. We go with the butter naan, saag paneer and butter chicken. If we're hungry we throw in an appetizer like the fried onions. It's easy to stick with favorites but there are plenty of other dishes I want to try. Clean, cozy, flavorful gem in Bountiful.

  • Farrah H.

The coconut lamb was so soft and came a part easily. The naan was like a piece of my grandmother's bread. I totally killed the bread. I love that they make each dish to order. Don't be afraid to order a bit spicier. Only open in evenings though 430pm-9pm. For sure coming back.

Royal India is a restaurant gem in Bountiful. We have eaten there or gotten their take out more than ten times. The dishes we've enjoyed are coconut korma, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and a few others. We have been more than satisfied with the food. The interior of the restaurant is small and the service can be slow, but the service has never caused us to remove this restaurant from our favorites list. Also, good restaurants in Bountiful are not bountiful, so we can't be too picky.

I had the chicken kurma and my fiancé had chicken saag with the garlic naan. It was delicious. Big portions! Great customer service!

  • Deano G.

This place still never disappoints. The service can be a little rough and the place could use a cleaning (chairs and tables), but the food more than makes up for it. I'm glad we have a spot like this in Bountiful and wish we had one a little further north. See you soon... I hope.

  • Polli S.

Wow! Just wow!! And then more wow!!! This place is small, but amazing. I ordered lamb, my husband ordered chicken. It melted in our mouths. The naans were cooked fresh on site and we're the best I've ever had. Staff was friendly and attentive.

  • Jany M.

I loved everything!! Parking is good even tho is Main Street. The atmosphere was quite and makes the place a little more private and romantic even tho is not fancy.. Food price is good for what you get! I just love Indian food and I satisfied with this place, I'll go again and I'll recommend other people to go.

Great Chicken Tikka, best Indian food in the Bountiful area. I just wish I could enjoy a beer with my meal...

  • Kierra T.

The food was very authentic and fresh. The garlic naan was a good size and I shared the chicken tikka masala with my Mum. The owner came up to our table several times during the meal. We live in northern Utah and stopped on the way home from a day in SLC. I would definitely make the drive down to eat here again.

    (5)
  • Mary N.

The best Indian food, hands down, in all of Utah. Try the chicken tikka masala, chicken saag and garlic naan. This place is a little pricey but worth it for the consistent quality.

  • Annie H.

I was super disappointed. I have never been out for Indian before where they served short grain white rice with your meal instead of basmati. And my 13.00 meal only had a couple onces of meat. Go to Taste of India instead.

  • Spencer M.

The chicken curry is bland, and that is something I never thought I would say about any curry. But the Lamb Vindaloo was excellent, as was the naan and the vegetable Samosas we had as appetizers. That being said, their are other Indian food places in the general area we would likely choose before returning here.

  • Chris U.

Great food. Service is good too. We've been going there for years. Love the Chicken Tikka Masala and Vegetable Masala. As we like varied spiciness we ask for a small dish of hot chutney to individually add "heat".The Naans are big and we prefer the plain ones. We also like the papads and mango chutney as an appetizer. We would highly recommend The Royal India.

  • Brian B.

Their butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and saag are excellent. In fact, their masala has a complex flavor that will become addictive. Also, I am yet to find a joint that has better rice. I have tried a lot of Indian restaurants in slc and this is my favorite.

We tried Royal India for the first time on a whim a couple of nights ago and were pleasantly surprised at the food quality and good service. Yay for good Indian food in Bountiful! We moved here last fall, and always love finding good food that doesn't require a drive to Salt Lake. Value: I always think a la carte prices at Indian restaurants seem high when I'm ordering, but those deceptively small-looking silver dishes actually hold a lot of food. We took leftovers home and were satisfied with our bill of $50 for three orders of Naan, an extra side of rice, Chutneys, Butter Chicken, Chicken Coconut Kurma, Vegetable Biryani, and a Sweet Lassi. (Though I think the price per piece for plain naan is steep at $1.95. I'd prefer to see it cheaper and/or included with entrees, but all other items were priced at a good value.) The lassi was much larger than I've received at other restaurants, and a bit thicker. We were offered additional rice to take home in our to-go boxes, which I thought was nice. Taste: Butter Chicken is creamy and tomato-based and includes large chunks of chicken breast, while Chicken Coconut Kurma used thigh meat in a rich and complex sauce. Both were amazingly delicious, without tasting the exact same as at any other restaurant. The Vegetable Biryani was stuffed with large chunks of a good variety of crisp-tender veggies (carrots, peas, potatoes, green peppers, onions, cauliflower). My husband thought their basmati rice was some of his favorite of any Indian restaurant. Service: Service was attentive. We were never left waiting, water was kept full, and the staff was kind in accommodating our young children. We were one of four parties seated in booths at 6:00 on a Wednesday night. One small suggestion: we weren't asked what level of spiciness we would prefer for our dishes. Everything came out extremely mild, with no spice at all. I suppose our selections are some of the traditionally mildest options anyway, and we had kids with us, but we enjoy spicy food and like to be asked. We will return. We much preferred it to the other Indian option in town.

We eat a lot of Indian food. Royal India was a total let down. Every dish seemed to contain almost the same sauce, and all the vegetables were soft. I don't know if they were frozen or overcooked. Probably both. Here is what we ordered: vegetable pakora - pretty good garlic naan - ok chicken tika masala - very bland aloo gobi - very mushy vegetable korma - way too much sauce, color was very odd, and the vegetables were very mushy gulab jaman - decent Easily the worst Indian food I have had.

I'm going to assume that past reviews about service have been taken into consideration by Royal India. We were greeted very promptly and seated in the cozy and ornately decorated dining room. We apologized in advance for our ankle biters, and in response the server brought them bowls of rice without us asking because she could tell they were hungry. I really enjoy their vegetarian choices, this time I ordered the Aloo Mutter (potatoes and peas in a spicy tomato-based sauce.) Comes with their fragrant basmati rice. Had to add an order of naan and garlic naan, vegetable samosas with tamarind chutney, and, of course, a icy cold Diet Coke (woohoo!) K almost always orders the Chicken Tikka Masala, doesn't leave a drop behind. Our drinks always stayed full, our food was fresh and hot, the price made it a great value, and we left very satisfied. I love having some decent food in Bountiful, and Royal India does not disappoint. If you like spicy, order it hot because they tone it down for sensitive palates in the area. Support local!

My favorite is the chicken tikki massala. The garlic naan is also excellent. One of my favorite places for take out.

  • Marvin N.

We came here for dinner and over all the service was good and the food was very tasty. The thing I'm not a fan of is: 1. The price, it seemed a little pricey to me for what you got. 2. I really don't think that you should have to pay extra for naan (unless you order a specialty naan). Other then those two complaints I would go back. The flavors of the food were a little different then what I'm used to, but that didn't mean I didn't like it. Also, I really liked the Mango Lassi, it was better then some of the places I've been to. I'm giving them a 3 not because of the food or the service, but because of the prices and the up charge for the naan.

We have lived in Bountiful for several years and finally had a chance to eat at The Royal India. We had the Vegetable Curry and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Neither was very spicy (we ordered them medium hot), but it was the best Indian we've had in a long time. Can't wait to go again.

Never a disappointment. We have always had great service, good food, and a great experience! Love this place.

The decor of this place is pretty simple and it's even easy to overlook on Main Street. Don't though. I've lived in bountiful for about two years now but I'm just now getting around to trying this place. We got the coconut kurma and the lamb marsala. It was very good. The prices are a little high for being in bountiful but still worth it. We got a to go box and they gave us each a large serving of rice in the to go boxes. The service was very good. It's nice to have a really good Indian food right here in Bountiful.

  • Alicia G.

I ordered "hot/spicy" but my veg coconut kurma was as flavorful as the glass of water. They should put salt and pepper on the tables if they serve tasteless food. Terribly overpriced for the quantity and quality. No need to revisit with Kathmandu a mere 20 minutes away at 700 E 200 S.

I like Indian food quite a bit so I've eaten it a lot. I think sometimes restaurants that serve food from other countries of origin are marked down because the reviewer doesn't care for the type of food. This is not the case here. Royal India has good food, but not great. Some of their dishes are better than others. The Tikka Masala and Kurma are both very good and these are a couple of popular foods for most people new to Indian food. Their Tandori Chicken is okay, not great. Their Naan is good, not great. They serve Coke products for those that care (my wife won't eat in places that don't serve Diet Coke). The prices here are kind of high IMO and they don't take Amex which is a minor negative for me. The service isn't great. You can certainly find better Indian restaurants for less out of pocket in Salt Lake City. Under normal circumstances I'd probably only give Royal India three stars. So why do I give it four? Because Bountiful is severely lacking in restaurant diversity. Most restaurants here are either franchises or they are just crap, some are both (Panda Express). So this restaurant is a HUGE breath of fresh air in terms of the choices in the area.

One of the best restaurants in Bountiful. Every time I visit Utah (about six times a year), this is our first stop. EVERYTHING is good. The staff does a great job getting to know you. They know that we eat TONS of their exquisite rice, so they keep it coming without any prompting.

  • Dan T.

Not cheap but they get 4 for having the courage to open something other than a chuck-a-rama in bountiful proper. Indian food is good here. My spelling will be off but here are my suggestions: chicken tika-masala chicken saag all types of naan goolab jamin (super-sweet desert balls) Suggestions to owners: OPEN FOR LUNCH!!!

Absolutly love this joint!! girlfriend took me here for my first taste of indian food. we go back every month since we lived in bountiful. so awhile now. ive tried all sorts of things from the menu. all have been great. always leave full, with a whole other meal to eat later. the chai tea is awesome so my girl says. the staff is great and very friendly.

Went here for my Birthday and had a great time. The dining room was almost empty so maybe that helped us get good service. Loved the food.

Family owned restaurant that has provided very good Northern and Southern Indian cuisine for many years. Although the strip mall location might seem rather ordinary, you are taken into another world upon entering this restaurant. Good atmosphere with ample seating and polite service always sets the mood for a great dining experience. Vegetable pakora or onion baji are great starters here, and I wouldn't pass on the opportunity to order Dosa or Uddhapam. Their Peshawari Naan is one of my favorites and goes well with their Vegetable Coconut Korma. Be sure to finish the meal with their Gulab Jamun.

  • Miriam W.

I have tried it three times wishing it was good, the service is awful, they asked us finish at 8:50 because they were closing at 9, the food is nothing special and they are skimpy on rice servings. I really wished it was good because it was so close to my house.

  • Alan M.

The saag aloo was great! The chicken tikka masala was pretty good, though a little too sweet for me--but I've never really liked that dish anyway. The kulfi ice cream kept my interest to the bottom of the bowl. The naan bread was dependably good. The service was very personable, if slightly confused (there were three different people serving us, and one of them seemed very new)--but it was unobtrusive, prompt, and polite, which is all that really matters to me. Be aware that the menu doesn't have the South Indian dishes available at the Sandy location.

An ok option if you can't make it to A Taste of India in Layton. A Bombay House want to be, but no where as good.

Royal India would be number 3 on my list of good India food in the area. (Best is Taste of India, then Bombay House, then Royal India, then Himalayan kitchen and Bombay Grill in Ogden). Their service has always been pretty good. The location is just okay, the bathrooms are horribly small. I'm 5'5", 125 lbs and the bathroom stall was difficult to maneuver into. Who makes stalls that small? Anyway, the food is pretty good, still better than what I can make at home, but lacking some complexities that other restaurants have mastered. The dishes seem be slightly more tomato heavy than other restaurants' dishes of the same name. I have always enjoyed their Lamb Rogan Josh. Their naan is good (garlic naan) - soft, crispy on edges, and flavorful. If you are okay with fried chicken, their mango chicken curry is different and very good. Other good choices would be Butter Chicken (Murgh Makhni) or Chicken/Lamb Kurma/Korma. Yes, they serve no beer, hubby doesn't like that fact. A good IPA with 'I' food is where it's at. Prices are comparable any other Indian restaurant in the area ($12-14/curry dish).

definitely some great indian food here. service was super too. not much else to say other than: "i may very well return."

I have eaten here several times and it's always a nice meal. Two minor negatives to say about the place. They have a doorbell chime that goes off every time a customer comes through the door. That may be helpful to the staff when it's a slow evening but it's incredibly annoying for a customer eating dinner. Who wants to hear ding-dong ding-dong every 45 seconds while eating dinner? The other negative is the garlic naan bread is made with garlic powder. Real garlic is what I expected from a restaurant that other wise has very good food. Come on guys, spend a little extra and make the naan with real garlic, not the cheap powder.

I would love to rate Royal India higher but it takes only one rat in the kitchen, so to speak, to ruin a great experience. My wife and I stopped in to Royal India to celebrate our wedding anniversary due, in part, to a rave review we received about its sister location in Salt Lake City. Always seeking a new adventure in food, and knowing very little of Indian cuisine, this seemed a great location. Arriving at about 7:50 p.m. there was no one in the front of this small restaurant to greet us. But seeing a few other tables full we waited a moment to be greeted by a tan-skinned gentlemen who showed us to our table. Sure, it's just an assumption of nationality, but the fellow looked Indian, so we thought, "Well there's a good sign this place is authentic." (This was the last time we'd see him.) Soon we were attended by a silver haired Caucasian man who, while not cheery, was not unfriendly either. Explaining we were relatively new to Indian food we asked for his recommendations. We ordered everything suggested. The vegetable pakora (a seasoned vegetable fritter) appetizer was wonderful. Delicate, but made all the more light and memorable with the sweet chutney and mint cilantro lime (raita) sauces. Our meal of two kinds of curry was extremely delicious accompanied by jasmine rice. (We liked the coconut lamb Kurma best.) On the side we enjoyed the tandoor bread, Naan, buttered with ghee. (If we got it again we'd save the money and get the plain Naan; their ghee doesn't add the richness it should.) The portions were a little small for the price ($30 plus drinks for two) but taking some extra helpings of the rice allowed us to stretch the servings. It was a decent albeit not great value, but flavor was wonderful. The only thing we missed is that the meal was very light on vegetables--which seemed very out of place from what I thought I knew of Indian cuisine. Afterward, lingering over conversation --like a few other diners-- we finally entertained some attention from our server. We spent a few minutes discussing our enjoyment from his recommendations, Indian cuisine, learning about the curries they blend on site, and picking out some pointers for dishes in the future. Closing up the pleasant evening, he said, "I have one more pointer for you when you come again." At this point we were hanging on his every word, thinking that we passed muster enough to be deserving of an insider's guide to the best dishes in the future. "You might want to come earlier next time. We close at nine. The kitchen staff has all gone home." We were stunned. Shocked. Flabbergasted. And it was only 9:05. We weren't even the only persons left in the place albeit there was only one other table still occupied. If I could have taken back my tip I would have! An otherwise wonderful evening in wonderful company with wonderful food ruined by a poorly mannered oaf of a server. At 9:10 we were in the car and on our way. We're definitely won over to eating more Indian cuisine in the future. We just never will be eating again at the Royal India.

An friend from India recommended Royal India to me. While it is still not authentic, it's the closest in the state. Definitely recommend checking this place out. Don't forget to ask for extra spicy.

The food wasn't bad in any particular way, but it wasn't fabulous either. Everything was a bit bland. I like the Bombay House much, much better.
