Food is not worth the money. She looks like she uses cheap stuff to prepare her food. The hosts would bring the food to some tables and would discriminate others by asking them to come and get their own food. Mostly from what I observed the white folks got their food brought to the table while other folks had to go pick their food. Absolutely terrible. If u r craving Biryani go to Indo Pak opposite to it or go to Masala Wok in Richardson where you cannot be disappointed. Avoid at all costs.

For the price, this place is a good if you have a craving for biriyani, naan or curry. Its not the best food I've had, but good for the price. The chicken biriyani is $3.99. The portion size is good. Naan is $1.25. They have a TV that is fixed on an Indian TV station - and I enjoy watching this while I'm there.

ROACHES: most unhygienic kitchen...they served stale biryani the first time I was here...second time (after a month)...a big fat roach in the food..not even worth 1/2 star..

Biryani was okay. Dry - more like fried rice....Better biryani at Delhi Dhaba for same price. Nothing special . Appetizers on display looked tiny. I was not tempted to order anything else. I am on travel and amazed by dallas Indian food. I tried 4 local joints this was the worst. Girl on counter was not friendly either.

We recently got take out here for the umpteenth time and each time I like it a little more. The mutton biryani was spiced perfectly with fresh rice and the portion was ample. Tandoori chicken was flavorful and the samosas were enjoyable too. I wish their veggie selection was more comprehensive. I see there are some that gave this place a subpar review, and I certainly can see such scenarios occurring. Since I didn't experience that, I still give 4/5.

Good food. Great chicken biryani. The lady at the counter was grumpy. She kind of "bang" the tray on our table without looking at us and her attitude was almost like she hated us. The thing is, she asked my name, so, if she did not want to bring the tray to the table, she could just call my name and I would be more than happy to get the tray myself. There was a younger Indian lady who use to be behind the counter and she is nice, but we went to Chameli several time and got the grumpy cashier. I gave 2 ..it should be 5.

Best damn Indian food in town. The cook/owner is actually from Bangladesh. So, the dishes got a different flavor then the traditional Indian or Pakistani food. The foods kinda have a mixed flavor from Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi dishes. Words cannot express it. It's worth the trip, even if you are not within the neighborhood. A must go place if you are visiting the Dallas area. Very reasonable price. Their Biriyani is awesome. Also, don't miss their appetizer - Chicken Pattice.

Chameli really hits the spot. Every-time I go, I've always been impressed with the quality of food and service. As a college student, each dish reminds me of the home cooked style that I love so much and the flavor is nothing short of phenomenal. This restaurant prepares everything fresh, nothing is frozen and the taste says it all. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to fill there stomachs with a good meal. The different biryani choices are probably my favorite (chicken especially) but I can never get sick of getting one of their wraps to go when I'm in a hurry. Don't forget to get the mango lassi either! Great place, and will definitely continue to come back

Alright, I have no basis of comparison and my friend is a Bangladesh native and therefore ordered for me since I'd never had Bengali food. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a really huge fan of Indian food in general so I was weary, but my friend guaranteed that the food was milder than traditional Indian food, so, I dug right in. I can't remember everything she ordered, but there was a white rice dish, a yellow rice dish with chicken, and what looked like a version of fried rice with chicken--I'm guessing this was the biryani. She also grabbed some dahl, naan (YUMM-O!!!), a chicken khari and goat khari. The chicken khari was VERY tasty and I sampled just a bite of the goat version because I'm not a huge goat meat fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed both. There were also some potato patties in there that were also a tasty treat (yeah, my friend ordered enough food for an army and there were only three adults and two children to feed!). My only complaints are that both of the khari dishes were very oily/greasy and you have to be REALLY careful of the meats because they are still on the bone. I picked everything apart before I started to nibble. Other than that, I loved the spicy new flavors and definitely will return for a second round :)

Nice, inexpensive restaurant style Indian food. The chicken briyani in particular would fill up a lumberjack for only $3.99! The place is nice, clean and the person who takes your order usually very helpful.

came back for the Chicken Biryani and it was great, and only $3.99 for a generous helping.

good food. Not great, certainly not as good as home made, but definitely worth the money (its really cheap). Also, they've changed the exhaust or something, because you don't stink when you leave there. Also, the quality of meat seems to have gotten better. I think there's a new guy in charge and they've made some changes. If you like spicy, skip the butter chicken and go for the goat Khari.

Was recommended by a friend from B'desh who was really excited about the food here. We have tried Chicken and Lamb Biryani, Chicken Korma. Decent food at affordable price which is way better than other places that claim to have good Biryani. Clean place and we have been there only for dinner. I will recommend this place to my friends.

my dad can make wayyy better indian food than this for sure. the girl working at the counter was nice... i think that was the only plus. the vegetable byriani came with a piece of meat in it... mind you, i do not eat meat... the dal was bland. the mixed vegetables looked like the cheap package of mixed vegetables that you get from the grocery store, with some garbanzo beans thrown in there. yes it was cheap, but it was NOT the bomb at all. 5 stars? nooooo no no....

cheap indian fast food chicken biriyani $3.49 they have other dishes here also..but known for the biriyani chicken/mutton/beef biriyani.

We have been going here for almost a year and stopped by several times. This place has been consistently good. We generally get the biryani, chicken korma and the naan. Their shahi biryani (on weekends) is good but fairly rich and heavy. Their regular biryani is ok but can't beat it for the price. It does have a Bangladeshi touch to it i.e. its not the typical Indian tasting food. Definitely worth a try.

Opened in 2006, Chameli is a wonderful addition to the Indian and Muslim scene. If you are tired of the usual Indian food, you should try Chameli. The owners and their food are Bengali. Biryani (Indian fried rice) is good here. Chicken or Vegetable Biryani are popular among guests. The Kebab Roll is also recommended. If you like it spicy, you'll like the food here. Naan is hot and flaky. The atmosphere is warm and familial. Once in a while there are off-menu dessert surprises on the counter, just whatever the cooks happen to make that day. They are all new and unfamiliar desserts.

Great place with great prices! The menu is simple. Small enough but with plenty of options. Servings are always large, there are usually some deals or perks on Yelp, and wifi available! You pay at the counter and they serve you at the table. I love this place! The staff has always been great every time I've gone.

  • simmi a.

You get what you pay for. I don't think they even know what biryani is. Biryani is terrible with jalapenos and cilantro. LOL who puts jalapeno and cilantro in their biryani. This place doesn't carry anything like Indian or Bangladesh food Yeh they do give enough rice to feed three people, but count their meat portions. Not original at all. I would not recommend The girl in reception has major attitude issue. No wonder she is working at a restaurant. lol Not recommended.

I feel like there was waaayy to much hype about their new "over rice" menu that they released few weeks ago. Came here last night after a 12 hr shift from work, before I even got there I called and ordered my food over the phone and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived to the restaurant 20 minutes after calling and suprised at how packed the place was, I mean there was NO place to sit! I thought this MUST mean the food is bomb. When I asked about my food, I was told to wait 15 more minutes, no big deal or anything, then Why did I even call in the first place? I was over it. After the additional 15 minutes I finally got my food and ended up driving home to eat it cause there was no space at the restaurant. I ordered a chicken over rice. Food came in an tin foil tray w/ clear plastic lid. The food was disappointing. The white sauce tasted like ranch, and the basmatic rice was so unflavorful and bland-like. The chicken was overcooked and not seasoned well. I have been to Halal Bros 12x in the past 2 years, inebriated and sober, (haha) but this doesnt even compare, I know what good chicken and rice tastes like (had it in NY 2x) and this is not it. The food needs tweaking. The service could be better. I still think the concept of late night food is great, but I think this isn't really anything to be driving across town for.

  • Utsav C.

I've always heard criticism about this place, but personally I've never had any reason to complain. I've been to Chameli about 4 times and every time, the biriyani was good. I've lived in Hyderabad and I know how good biriyani tastes for real, and Chameli makes it pretty well. Not authentic, but it is good. It is true that they don't serve it with Raita, but then the restaurant is kinda self service and they have green chutney and raita on the counter in squeezy bottles and I find that acceptable enough. Their serving portions are very generous and they give you a lot of meat with the biriyani so that's always a good experience. I think their best dish is biriyani, and I recommend this place. For the price you pay for the food, it is well worth it.

    (4)
  • Rutvik S.

They have specials on weekends with chickpea over rice, chicken over rice and if they are out of 1 item out of 4, that is not acceptable at all. I drove 15 miles just to have chickpea over rice, finding out they are out of the food.

I don't care much for Indian/Bengali food unless it's my own mother's cooking. But chameli has got it going on, my friend! They even started a new midnight menu for the weekends. So after I'm done sinning at Sultan's, I come here and grab me a bowl of the good stuff. I appreciate that the food is still fresh even during late hours. I'd also recommend this place for a first casual date. While the flavors dance on your pallette, they don't linger. And I think it's because they chill out on the onions and garlic so your breath doesn't blow your date away. I'd say after my meal that I could get away with a quick smooch from Omar and he wouldn't even notice that I ate desi food for dinner.

My parents took me here a few years back and I recently visited again last week. Was prompted by the great experience that I had here. Environment: Nice location with very clean tables and chairs. Unlike most sit down restaurants, the water here is self-serve. There's a table in the front that has pitchers of cold water and a few mugs and cups. The cashier on the front was very friendly when taking our order and kept stopping to tell us that the food would be "X more minutes". It was great knowing that he didn't forget about us and the food was well on its way. Food: In my most recent visit, I ordered 2 boxes of biryani (chicken and beef) and 3 samosas. I thought there was a typo on the menu because the chicken was only $3.99 for an entire box. The rice is long-grained and packs such a huge flavor punch. My family is Malaysian and we feel that Chameli does a great job of balancing out the spice that comes from the southeastern Asia region. Portion sizes are generous and 1 box can easily feed 2 hungry people. However, I don't recommend the samosas here. My boyfriend and I usually go to Samosa Hut in Iriving, but we ventured out and tried the ones here. They were good, but the middle of the samosas were cold. Yikes. The flavor was good, but not the best that we've had. I would definitely skip on the samosas and stick to the biryani and curry. Good prices for large portion sizes. Very flavorful food. Would recommend to any who is in the mood for Indian.

This is a nice little spot for authentic Bangladeshi food. The Biryani, which they claim they are famous for, is ok, but not great. You do get a lot of it though, so can't complain. As others have outlined, the meat dishes here come with a lot of bone in them. The only exception to this is the butter chicken dish, which is top notch! The Korma and Karai (both goat and chicken) are very flavorful and have just the right amount of spice. Unfortunately, on two occasions, I got different temperatures in my food, leading me to believe that some of it is just leftovers heated up in the microwave. The naan is good and the samosas are excellent. Just needs improve a little bit in the consistency department.

Okay this was my first visit to Chameli because it's been awhile since I have had good Indian food. From what I understand this place isn't exactly Indian but Bangladeshi but hey close enough. I went on a not so busy Saturday afternoon and attempted to use a Restaurant.com voucher however I was told they are not accepted as noted on the counter. Restaurant.com has it pretty bad with selling nonredeemable vouchers by the way. Chameli has a good menu serving curries, kormas, biryanis and more. I tried the lamb biryani special but wasn't really impressed; I mean it was just okay. I would return and try a curry or korma. I was given a sample of the sweet sponge ragulla; bit of an acquired taste but cool. Anyhow the food isn't overpriced so that's a plus. Service was friendly and fast so worth a try.

Chameli offers affordable Bangladeshi food. The Biryani here comes in one size - HUGE. Prices range from $4 for the chicken to $9 for the mutton. I went for the value of the chicken biryani and used the savings to try the vegetable samosa, chicken patty, and garlic naan. Chicken Biryani - 3 stars - Not overly spicy and the flavors are all there but the chicken is more bones than meat. But I can't complain too much for four bucks. Vegetable samosa - 4.5 stars - The best I've had in a while. The pastry was crisp and the filling of curried potato and peas was deliciously seasoned. Chicken Patty - 4 stars - Not what you would expect by the name. It's seasoned ground chicken stuffed inside a puff pastry and served with chutney. Yum! Garlic naan - 4 stars - Thinner than the regular naan and covered with fresh garlic and oil. Overall, I'd say 3.5 stars because the better entrees are priced high enough that I'd rather go hit up an Indian lunch buffet to get more variety.

Oh, hello, little gem of Richardson! This is undoubtedly the most perfect Indo-bengali joint around Dallas. Fresh, authentic Indian cuisine served in gigantic portions and super reasonably priced, too! We started out with a hot cup of milk tea and samosas (flaky on the outside and filled with savory potatoes and chickpeas). This was already very satisfying on a freezing winter night but one must not stop there. Everyone loved the chicken biryani and buttered chicken. Make sure to add the mint chutney sauce. We ate everything and wiped the plates clean with their fresh, warm naan. Impeccable service, whether you decide to dine in alone, bring a large party or order to go. Definitely will be back for more home cooked goodness!

Been driving past this place for years, so today, with time on my hands, I stopped in to try it. Biryani is not a dish I normally get when enjoying foods from the sub-continent. But since that is in there name, I went for the house specialty. Mutton Biryani: aka an adult lamb, goat is a flavorful meat that should work well with this spicy rice dish. The mutton is served "asian" style, small bones and all so you have to use your fingers. The flavors are good, rice correctly spiced, half boiled egg on top was a nice touch. For $8.99, you get enough rice to feed the whole table. Wish there was an option to order double- meat or something though. I also got an order of Samosas: one beef and one veggie. They were ok. If you have a rice craving, Biryani is what to get.

Excellent food and inexpensive, to boot! I had the butter chicken-rich and complex-and the owner brought me one of the little sweet wet sugary pastry balls (gulab jamum) to try for dessert-delicious! There's a nice flavor in there that I can't put my finger on. So yummy. They serve a thick, milky black tea for $1. Score. The garlic naan was perfectly crispy and chewy. I'll definitely be back for more!

I throughly read the Yelp reviews before recently visiting this restaurant for the first time. Unfortunately, my family and I left disappointed. Both the chicken patties and samosas were dry and overly flaky/bready, but edible. Despite receiving a warning from the cashier that the Mutton Korma was spicy, I found it extremely mild and the dish was luke warm. The chicken meat in the Butter Chicken was over-cooked, there was not enough sauce, very little spice and the dish was also luke warm. The regular naan and garlic naan were both tasty, but still average. The chicken biryani was a good value with lots of chicken, but far too mild and the taste was just okay. The riata/chutney sauce was too thick, pasty and bitter for my taste. We took some leftovers home and the next day when I re-heated them to a suitable temperature, I enjoyed the food more. Therefore, if I return I will likely get take-out.

I have been coming here with my husband for a couple years now. Atleast once every work week. The food is great. Options are plentiful and taste is uncompromisingly SE Asian. Nice and spicy and yummy. Their lunch menu is awesome. We never went wrong with anything we ordered either from the lunch menu or from the main menu.

One of the great mysteries of Indian restaurants is that so many of them are run by Bangladeshis, but no one serves Bengali cooking! Well, this place does! And well worth the visit. Of particular interest is the biryani. Subtly flavored, mixed in with caramelized onions plus the meat of your choice, (do try goat and lamb) it is a treat simply because it is so different from the typical Indian biryani dishes we are used to. Be aware that some dishes can be very, very, very spicy...so make sure to adjust to your level of taste. Go and enjoy this unknown and wonderful style of cooking.

Ok, so the update to my review. Richardson is out of the 10 mile radius that I prefer to travel for some weird reason. Sooooo, I've been trying other Biryani joints close to me and well, NO! Chameli is by FAR the most tastiest, cheapest best biryani hands down. Go here people, do it! Today!

  • Arub K.

The food is great. It's served fresh and hot by friendly people. The atmosphere is that of an old dinner and I think when it's full of people, it must be fun. I'd take a group of friends there.

I've been coming here for years and food and service have been consistently stellar. Portion sizes are generous and prices are the best you'll find in all of Dallas. I've picked items from all over the menu without ever being disappointed. The owner always treats me and my guests like family... Would recommend to anyone!

Tried the shahi biryani was okay at best. Kind of dry for my taste. Chicken tikki was decent Kind of self serve restaurant. Food took forever and a half and we were first in line. Felt sorry for the people behind us. The atmosphere was basic but clean. 3 stars was the best I could give this place. Would prolly not return anytime soon.

Super inexpensive and very tasty. I found my butter chicken to be spicy and flavorful, and where I'd normally chalk that up to sensitivity, I went with a friend that loves spicy food...and he was sweating. Granted, he asked for that. It was a little irritating that they have paneer tikka Masala, but not chicken. Samosas were tasty, albeit a tad spicy. Not super fancy but great for lunch, as service was very fast. I'll be coming back soon!

Went sunday afternoon and Ordered a chicken biryani and mutton biryani to go for only $14....and they were packed FULL with a hard boiled egg stuck in the middle. The chicken was only $4 amazingly. Flavorful and friendly service. Lunch special is a good deal too.

I went here after hearing the backstory--apparently the owner used to make biryani, and friends and relatives for years had told her it was good enough that she should open a restaurant, and so she did. So expectations were high. Went there this evening, Saturday. Not crowded. Can't say I'll be back. Chicken biryani was too oily for my taste, and had some hard bits (chicken bone?) in it that were disconcerting. Portions of this dish were large, especially that it was only $3.99. All other portions were small, and MUCH more expensive--strange. Chicken curry, for example, was just under $10, and was a very small portion. Taste was average. Rice was extra, so Chicken curry + a small plate of plain steamed white rice was almost $12--three times of a heaping place of rice and chicken--the Biryani. Also, beef biryani was also $10--anyway, all the prices were wacky. Garlic naan was excellent. Mango lassi was good. Tandoori chicken was a little burned and dry. Taste was ok, but the chicken was not especially meaty. And it was $5. Also tried chicken karai--this was good, but portions were quite small--this too was $9 (rice extra)--so, double the cost of the tandoori, although portion size was about the same. It's also hard to understand what they're shooting for in terms of service--you order at the counter, but they bring the food, but flat ware and drinks are self-service. Also, they're absolutely in no hurry whatsoever, and they'll finish stacking cups or whatever tasks they're busy with, before coming to take your order at the counter--be there in a minute, I was told at least a couple of times. No atmosphere; Indian tv program blaring in the background--so again, it's not really a restaurant (despite the name) and it's not fast food, and it's not a cozy little ethnic joint either--too bright and open for that; not sure what they're aiming for; more likely, they haven't thought about it. As I'm writing this, my opinion is falling even farther, so I'll stop before I lower them another star. Bottom line: OK taste, but portions are small, service tepid, and prices confusing.

I tried this place twice. Once during lunch and once at 2:30am. The lunch special i got was the boneless chicken biryani and it was very good and the portion was large. The thing that is lacking in the DFW area is the street food style over rice bowls. The fact that it is only available 11pm-3am is inconvenient. I finally was able to get the lamb/beef over rice tonight around 2:30am. It is a disappointment compared to Halal Bros in Austin, TX. The meat portion was lacking and looked like it was sitting on the side for hours. The overall taste was bland compared to what I have previously had in Austin. If Chameli wants to gain more customers at that time of night, they need to strive for a product similar to Halas Bros. The lamb/beef over rice was decent but it really needs to be improved. Also I suggest offering during lunch hours at least.

Best chicken biyani I ever had. very flavorful. Take a side of gravy with the biryani. It is kindof oily but the taste is all worth it :)

  • Stephanie K.

I like the food here. It is delicious but my only disappointment was each time I ordered the curry, I do not get alot of sauce or meat. Mostly full of bones. Never the less, it was still delicious. Most of the food portions are pretty big except for the curry. DON'T BE STINGY WITH IT! There's a reason why I ordered a 7.99 curry. I expected more. I asked for more sauce rather than meat since I figured they were being stingy with it. Even worst, more bones :( Still, I go back because they are tasty with the biryani rice which is worth it. I think that a $5.99 buffet would be a better deal at other places though. Still, I am a fan and I think a 3.5 Stars is reasonable to give.

  • Tim V.

Chameli ended up being on the way home from my doctor's, so I've been eating here semi-regularly (probably upward of 10 times by now). The chicken curry dishes are fantastic! They serve them on-the-bone, so you have to be a little careful, but the flavor is out of this world. The Chicken Karai and Chicken Korma are both delicious. Once I tried the Beef Biryani and it was a delightful surprise. They know how to cook meat here! Maybe cooking on-the-bone gives it that added flavor. Oh, I was not a fan of the Paneer Tikka Masala, but that's been the only low point. Consistency seems to be a strong point here. Love it.

  • M C.

I love this place, the price is very reasonable and their portions is very generous. I've only had their Chicken biryani which is like $3.99 but it is sooooo flavorful. They do keep bones in and their do have some spices and herbs in-whole like bayleaves so just a fair warning. They can be slow in service though, utensils and water are self serve. But for me I care greatly about price and flavor and this place got both beat in my book.

    (5)
  • Money P.

You cannot beat the $3.99 chicken biriyani. 1 order is enough for lunch, dinner, and probably a third meal. It's not a just a generous serving, it's MASSIVE. The mutton biriyani is deadly awesome too with the naan. Was introduced to Chameli's by a good friend and have brought my family here on multiple occasions and they all love the place. You can even order ahead so you don't have to wait for the food. The staff is very nice and courteous to boot! Delicious food for a delicious price.

  • Christopher R.

Chameli is starting to be a really great place to get authentic Indian cuisine. I say "starting" because previously they would charge for anything. I went in with my family, ordered something different besides the chicken biryani (cannot beat that price) and notice that all curry dishes offer a side of rice or naan. So shrimp curry was the choice this time. Perfect! Perfectly peeled, deveined shrimp cooked to perfection. The added plus was the spicy curry it was flavored with. Order some extra naan to keep the mouth cool. I always say, go with a group where you can make things family-style. Order different curries and share it all. For what I believe to be the best and freshest Indian food in the DFW area, I never mind paying the price for great food. You won't either. Step outside the butter-chicken box and try something great today. They even throw a free side dish with a Yelp check-in?! Stop reading and start eating!

If anyone looking to taste what authentic Bengal Fish dishes tastes like (Specially Kolkata and Dhaka) then this place is best. Call an hour ahead and ask what fish is available and then try that with the plain white rice. You can get the taste of 100% Bengali Fish Curry. I love the place because of the ability to order different kind of fishes. To be honest I did not try any of the Biriyani, I can find BIriyani in any Indian Restaurant but not Bengali FIsh. Also I tried the Tea and the Bengali Sweet "Rosogoola" they were awesome. Any body missing Calcutta should visit this place

Get the mutton bryani on the weekends. That's when they do it the traditional style. Also try the nehari. I like it with rice. And get the garlic naan. Great food at a good value. Will RTE.

The food is ok, there seem to be lots of confusion with people handling the register. They sometime ask me to pay latter, miss some items etc. Food is reasonably ok and price is cheap so I guess I will put up with it for now.

By far my favorite places to eat! I am not a biriyani fan whatsoever but eating Chameli's beef biriyani surely changed my mind for good. I've tried other places but yet, I still run back to Chameli. With awesome customer service as well as delicious food, I can't help but be a regular customer. Also, their fish cutlets are definitely a nice addition to my meal. I appreciate their service and I know I'll continue to be a regular for as long as the biriyani is amazing and the customer service is phenomenal!

Very good food at unbelivable price! I feel they use extra oil in their food.... If they reduce it will be awesome..

We catered for this for our daughter's birthday. Met the owner, he was very nice. He offered some of his samples. Everything seemed to be great. However, the food we got to our party had a different story. We never experienced chicken roast made up of all chunky drumsticks. Then goat Biriyani was filled with big potatoes. He even forgot to put one item. We were absolutely disappointed with their service. We went to a different party; they also had food from this place. Have to admit, the food was better (average) than ours. So be careful about this place. For us, we will never go back to this place. We felt like the owner just did not pay any attention to our order and screwed us.

I ordered a chicken 65. It didn't come with bread or rice so I had to pay for that separately. It's not the worst Indian food Ive had but the chicken was dry and didn't taste fresh at all

Their chicken biryani is improved. It has more spices in it now. Therefore, I gave it another star. Yay!

This place is ideal if you're looking for good Indian food. Much better than chain restaurants like Masala Wok, Chameli makes everything fresh when you order so it might take a while to get your food but it's worth it. I usually order the "butter chicken" which is their name for Chicken Tikka Masala. This is one of those Indian restaurants where if you order hot you'll be sweating at the table, which I love!! Fresh naan goes great with the sauce. My friends and I also tried one of their chicken Boti rolls and it was soooo good! I hear their biryani is incredible so you can bet I'll be back to try it!

This place has the best chicken biryani in the area. Clean, quick, and convenient. I highly recommend!

I had never had biryani before and it was a nice surprise. If you're following Atkins Diet then this place might not be for you. The rice portions was HUGE, really good flavored. I had the chicken biryani, I'd have liked more chicken and not so much bones but hard to argue for $3.99, good ROI for sure.

Chameli is slightly hidden on Greenville - if you don't know what you're looking for it's easy to miss. The restaurant is self serve. You step up to the counter to order your food, sit yourself, then come back to pick it up when your order is ready. Customers pour their own glasses of water and if you're amazing like my group of friends you take the whole jug of water to your table and finish it. I ordered a beef samosa and chicken biryani. Everything was simply delicious and great. The beef samosa wasn't too crunchy and the filling was still warm. It's served with a sauce that makes it a little saltier, but not too much. The biryani was also really delicious although one downside was that they give so much rice I felt bad for not finishing everything. I spent less than $10 for my lunch here, and it was much better than some places where I'd pay $20 + for lunch. The plates are filled graciously - you will not leave hungry. The environment at Chameli is really laid back, mostly because it's self serve - so there's no waiters walking around hustling you to get out. If you're looking for an introduction into Indian cuisine, come here and try out their daily specials plus the samosas! Happy eatings.

Stopped by this place for lunch one day. Never had biryani before so I thought I give it a go. You order at the counter. The young lady taking our order was very friendly and helpful. She recommended the Beef Curry Rizala $5.99. I liked it. Good and flavorful. Perfect for a cold winters day (even though it was over 100 degrees out). Tried both the Samosa and the Potato Cutlet as a side dish. Both were good, I preferred the potato cutlet. Crispy outside, creamy herb spiced potato inside. Naan was OK. Crisp on the outside. They provided two sauces to try. One was a thin tamarind sauce with a little spice, but the one I really liked was a jalapeno/cucumber/yogurt . I want the recipe! Over all a good experience, Id go back.

They are super-nice and the naan rules. Other than that... not so much. We had the butter chicken and the okra; the butter chicken sauce tastes like it was from a jar. The okra was well-cooked, but needed seasoning. Samosas were tiny, way too spicy, and served with ketchup. Honestly, this place was so nondescript I can't think of anything else to say.

This place has really great food. I've had chicken biryani, chicken korma, butter chicken and beef kabobs. All were very tasty. The butter chicken was really good not only because of the sauce, but because the chicken chunks were good quality without bones. The guy next to me once ordered the chicken tandoori which looked very good as well. If you order something here (such as chicken tandoori or beef kabobs) which isn't mainly sauce , then you typically get a side salad which is pretty good too. Also the vegetable samosas are very good, especially the potato ones. I should let you know however the to-go portions are significantly smaller than the dine-in portions. My only other nitpick is that an order of naan only consists of one piece. Typically I expect at least two pieces of naan per order.

Nice restaurant. Food is good. Quantity is also good. Price is on the cheaper side. Only wish they had buffet option.

Good food! Good service! Great prices! I love their goat biryani. Theirs was the first goat I'd ever tried, and because it was so tender and delicious, I know I'll be having it again. One night, I wasn't sure what to order for my family and our company, so I called and asked for some recommendations to feed a crowd. She had us order four different dishes (a couple of biryani's and a couple of saucy dishes) and we loved them all. The only thing as of yet that I don't love is their chicken biryani. Maybe it's my Dallas upbringing, but I don't like to eat neck, nor other non-muscle parts of poultry.

great place for lunch. Mon-Fri they have Lunch specials for $5.95, comes with Samosa, Naan or Rice and Curry. The quantity is a little less for "Texas" lunch.. but will certainly keep you filled for a few hours. Good quality and tasty dishes, lady at the counter is extremely helpful in answering questions and with recommendations, Overall good value for money!

Well... Two stars is supposed to be "I've experienced better"... but since I was going on a limb and trying something new... I can't say I've ever had Biryani before. And after this experience... I'm not sure I want to have it again. I went in there thinking... Ok, this is like "Indian Fried Rice". I can do this. I got my order to go and started driving back to the office. By the time I got on the freeway, I had rolled my windows down. The smell was awful. I am not usually one to decide if I like a food by the way it looks or smells but this was so strong I had some serious doubts a brewin. I got it and tried a few bites. It wasn't horrible. I ate enough of it to not be hungry... but the smell was just overwhelming where I really couldn't enjoy it. And then it happened. A co-worker returned from lunch and as she walked into the office she exclaimed... "Did the Exterminator come while I was at lunch?" Um, yeah. I think I'm done with Biryani. Sadly, I was hoping to like it since it was just a large portion for such a small price.

I could not find Chilli Pepper Biryani House, so my friend and I went here. I love Indian food and I've been craving some flavor and spices for a while. I'm very glad we went to Chameli. We had 2 perfectly spicy vegetable samosas and we each got an order of chicken biryani. The flavors were excellent! My order was heaped with rice, topped with half of a hard-boiled egg, and it had no fewer than 4 big pieces of chicken (still on the bone) hidden under the rice. I ate every bit of mine (I'm still full 2 hours later!) and ordered one more chicken biryani to go. Yum! 2 samosas, 2 orders of biryani, and one soft drink came to less than $12 dollars. You can't beat that.

This place is solid. It's my favorite biryani anywhere- very flavorful without being terribly spicey. It doesn' t taste like it came out of a box. Years ago when this restaurant first opened, the food didn't seem as oily. Not sure if owners/chefs have changed, but at my recent visit, it did seem oilier. But tasty all the same. Young lady at the front is a sweetheart as well. Customer service is ok- they are accommodating. There also seems to be a lot of 'regulars' at this place. Naan is just ok. Biryani is awesome.

I ordered chicken korma, karai chicken, chameli chicken, mixed vegetables, naan, and samosas. I also ordered Baigan (eggplant), but they ran out (after I paid) so they owe me $2.99. The chicken korma was tasty, kind of oily though. The chameli chicken was like ground chicken on a stick, not much flavor. The karai chicken was good though, nice creamy tomatoey sauce. The mixed vegetables was potato, carrots, etc..it was very good. The naan was good, warm, and chewy. Now the highlight of the meal for me was the samosas..best I have had in a long time. Not overly fried, greasy, or breaded. It's best described as savory. So delicious, flaky and mmm I want some right now. I didn't get the biryani, which is their specialty cuz I was taking it to someone's house and they were already making rice...next time though The atmoshere is good, it's cheap, friendly service, and they take credit cards! yay! :)

Chameli is definitely my go to place for lunch and dinner. I come here at least once a week, and I have yet to walk out disappointed. I am a big fan of all of their chicken/beef rolls, especially the chicken boti roll. I'm not a big fan of their biryani, just because of the type of masala they use, however that's just me. Service is great, they usually will have your order out to you within 10 minutes. This is definitely a place everyone should try- cheap, fresh and yummy food!

What a fun, affordable Indian spot. The mutton biriyani was absolutely delicious, not to mention cheap (like... $4 kind of cheap). And I had enough leftovers for another meal. The naan is flavorful and well... perfect. Love the chai, and that salad comes with the meal. My hubby tried the chicken boti, which was good, but I liked my biriyani better. Service was a little slow, and the lady at the counter was a little frazzled, but the food definitely made up for it. I loved the atmosphere too. It was clean and there were these fantastic music videos playing of the girl that was in Bride and Prejudice...

After one visit, 3 stars sounds about right. I went for the biryani since they claim they are a biryani place. It was a GIANT heaping plate of rice with chicken (many pieces still on the bone), minimal add ins like veggies, nuts, or fruit like I've had elsewhere, cilantro, and spices. Topped with a hard boiled egg. Also other places I've had it usually serve it spicier with a raita-type sauce to go with it to cool you down, but this one did not. It also wasn't spicy though, so I guess it didn't need it. I don't know what the most "authentic" recipes call for, but it sure was a crapload of food for $3.99. I ate probably 1/4 of it and took the rest for multiple future meals. I also noted Francesca's praise of the samosas, so I had a beef samosa (99 cents) and tried the two green sauces they have at the counter. It was SUPER good. The two sauces were supposed to be spicy, but either I'm getting used to spice, or they weren't really that spicy (my friend said they were though, so maybe I'm just building up a tolerance). I would definitely get one of those again. They also had curry dishes and veggie dishes, and several desserts. The desserts seemed a bit pricey to me at $2.50 a pop, but I would probably try the gulab jamun or the homemade kheer (at least that's what it looked like) next time. I should also mention that the place was plenty clean, it did smell like food but wasn't intolerable, and the lady who took my order was pretty helpful. I asked for a to go menu so I could see if any of the menu items had descriptions (I didn't know what a lot of the stuff on the menu was), and she took the time to hand write a short description next to everything I was unfamiliar with! I thought that was pretty sweet of her. All in all, I probably wouldn't get the biryani again, but I'd definitely give this place another shot and try something else.
