I hate to write this - but I have been there twice and haven't been impressed. I wanted to like this place. REALLY wanted to like it. After reading the review in DMN I thought it would be burger utopia. I was wrong. I will say before I start that burgers seem easy but that most people seem to manage to screw them up (IMO). Too much seasoning. Too much cooking. Too hot a fire. Too low a fire. A great burger is an art. It should be tender/juicy/moist. Even a well done burger should have traces of juicy/moistness to it. IMO. Both times I ordered them medium. Medium to me is a slight ribbon of pink through the middle of the burger. If there is no pink, that is not medium. There was no pink on either burger. The two burgers I tried both were very dense very solid bricks of meat. The first time I just ate it and said nothing. My mistake. I know. The second time I talked to the server and got a spiel about that is THEIR medium. Wow. I didn't know they got to make new standards for burgers. I guess I should have asked for a rating chart when I got there. On the second visit we did try a dessert which was very, very good. But to be honest our experience was so skewed by the lack of a good burger (especially for those prices) it sort of made our heads spin a little. Was it just us? Was it the fact we arrived both times (after 8 pm) after prime time? Was it burger roulette? I watched them prepare the space for months and was excited to see a new restaurant down there. So sad.

First time at this place and the food is great. Burgers are tasty and you need to have sweet potatoes fries they are amazing.

First off, super duper craft beer selection. Tons. Good service, lots of interesting burgers, mine was well-composed and cooked. Excellent fries. The epitome of a good downtown gastropub.

Have had a great time and service each time I've been here. Whether it's been during a rush, slow time, large group, or just date night with the wife, it's been consistent and good. First off, BEER. You gotta have a good beer selection with a burger. They got it. Love a place with good beer on tap. Especially stouts. I'm snobby with my beer. The burgers are great. Cooked perfect each time. I am not scared of a medium burger either. I've tried a few of them so far, but I keep going back to the lamb burger. It's awesome. I like extra sauce with it. I always get an extra fried pickle. It's become a ritual to have one before and after my burger. The apple pie with cheese desert is good. Needed more apple filling though. But overall. Fairly priced for what I got. Atmosphere and decor is nice and simple. Staff has always been good to me. This is my favorite place in the square.

Good times! We went out here this past weekend and our bartender Sean (Shawn? Shaun? *Sigh* however he spells it!) was really great! The bar was pretty empty which I was surprised about considering it was a Saturday night. That just meant better service and less people to be offended by me and my friend's loud drunken banter! We had a really good time! Okay, maybe a little TOO much fun... :) The 'well' whiskey is really fantastic although I can't remember what it was. After reading all the reviews here, I'll definitely have to go back to try the food. We got to sample a couple different beers in the cutest mini sized pilsners which was fun. All in all a good experience! Thanks for your patience and great customer service, Sean!

I had heard so many good things about this spot and was not at all impressed! I actually buy the same meat that Square Burger does from Local Yocal, and its wonderful! but the burger I ordered (mushroom burger) was INCREDIBLY salty and just not very good. Ironically, a group of us split some of the appetizers which ended up being very delicious. I may give them one more shot in the future..

Good burger and had lots of cool burger choices. I would recommend it for sure if on the Square.

Really overpriced!!Very crowded to the point of uncomfortable. can smell the bathrooms from half way back. My burger had a long black hair woven in the meat. not good. Lots of bread really big bun. The fries looked great we went with the onion rings. The coating is the one that really holds the grease. The fried pickle on the plate same greasy batter. They took my meal off the check. The manager never came out to apologize did not order a replacement burger. This was not an eyelash but a long black hair. you would think person mixing the meat would be wearing a hair net. 1st and last. Expected more.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Downtown McKinney! My favorite thing on the menu is the Spicy Tuna Burger. If you're a sushi fan like myself, you'll love this. It's made with sushi quality tuna, and I highly recommend that you order it rare. Definitely not what you'd get at your typical burger joint. Their sweet potato fries are great, too, and come with a really tasty garlic dipping sauce. It's a little on the pricey side for a burger joint, but it's well worth it for a treat. The only thing that's really not too great about this place is the wait after you order. Every time I have eaten here, it has taken close to forever for our food to come out! So unfortunately I can't come here as often as I'd like, because I only get an hour for my lunch break.

This place has great food. No mistake about it. Their blue burger is phenomenal. The problem I had was that three adults and one child ate burgers, no alcohol, and the bill was 60 bucks. Not including tip. The waiter was so snooty about us asking for ranch dressing for the child, and informed us that they don't have ranch. He was argumentative and really slow at service. It took 45 minutes for us to get our food at lunch time.

Five Star Everything Except the Burgers. The atmosphere has a cool LA vibe, with giant windows, white everything, and modern decor. The staff is friendly, yet not so knowledgeable, and since this is a "gastropub" the staff should know quite a bit about the drink selection and food...or at least be willing to go ask someone who does. The mushroom burger is underwhelming and the regular burger sucked, specifically they can't get the meat right in seasoning or doneness (just learned that doneness is a word). Fries are awesome, and I enjoyed the onion strings. Beer selection is huge and efficient, and the desert offerings are tempting...ice cream sandwiches on a 100 degree Texas day? ...I'll take 2. Finally, the bathroom is awesome. I love the hand towels.

We come here quite often when we are in the downtown McKinney area. The burgers and beer selection are great. We've had the tuna, lamb and high society and all were very good. On occasion, we've ordered from the specials menu when something catches our eye. They are surprising well cooked and tasty for a place that focuses on burgers. We had pork belly and lamb lollipops and both were fab. Skip the salads though because they are pathetic. We ordered a "simple salad" once and it literally was some lettuce leaves out of a Dole packet with Kraft dressing. WTF I can do that myself. The fried sides are good but who can mess up fries, onion rings and sweet potato fries?!

This is one of the best burgers I have ever had. Burger had some great flavor. The regular and sweet potato fries are great. Love the different types of beer being served at this location. Server was very nice and offered samples glasses for the beer until I found the right one that went with my food. Can't wait to go back.

I literally have not one bad thing to say about this place. The service is superb...they have a wall of local beer on tap that changes according to season. The food is delicious and locally sourced (they get their meat from the Local Yocal butcher shop just down the road...it's that fresh). I haven't eaten one thing here I didn't like. I highly recommend!!

I love this place! It's one of my favorite burger joints. A few weeks ago I ordered the lamb burger and sweet potato fries. The meat and toppings were all so great. Tender lamb burger with lettuce tomato little red onion lots o feta and tatziki sauce on the side on a toasted pita. My husband's society burger with blue cheese was pretty good too. This was the first time we came here and didn't try a beer. The burgers were enough. SO good! They do a have a wide selection of beer. Everything is always really good. The decor is snazzy! Again, love this place!

As I sat at the bar and watched one delicious looking plate of food go by, then another, then another ..well you get the point.. I just couldn't make up my mind as literally all of the burgers looked incredible The combination of warm, fried goat cheese, beets and grapefruit in one word = sublime. This salad was delicious and a perfect size. A friend and I each started with the salad and split the Ahi burger. The is not to be missed - prepared perfectly and just yummy! Looking forward to trying every item on the menu...

In summary: Pricey burgers with gourmet toppings in a trendy setting. Situated in the heart of downtown McKinney, Square Burger is definitely tries to be trendy, and succeeds- though the restaurant still has a comfortable, light, airy vibe; not always so at "hip" dining locales. The music (mostly acoustic guitar stuff) helped it to feel less obnoxious. The menu was semi-small but creative. It featured a nice little selection of gourmet burgers, including some inventive options, like lamb and salmon burgers. We were impressed by the variety of beers they had on draft, though we did not partake. I opted for the Bleu Burger on this visit. It consisted of a hamburger patty topped with melted bleu cheese, a yummy caramelized onion spread, and an ample amount of fresh arugula, served on a warm ciabatta bun. All of the burger toppings were fresh and flavorful. I have to say, however, that they overpowered the flavor of the meat. But they were so yummy, I didn't mind. Much. I ordered my burger medium rare, and there were no traces of pink to be found in the center of my burger. As I said, I felt like the other ingredients were the star here, so it wasn't a big factor. Normally, this would be a deal breaker. We shared the sweet potato fries. YUM. They were thin and crisp, and dusted with just the right amount of sugar. The zesty garlic aioli accompaniment offset the sweetness perfectly. Best part of the meal. The service we received was friendly and efficient. Drinks stayed refilled, and we never had to wait for anything. A manager stopped by our table to ask how everything was. My burger was $9. The sweet potato fries (split between the two of us) were $4.50. Total check for two burgers, fries, and one soft drink was $27. A little steep- but comparable to Twisted Root, Kenny's, etc. In summary, this is not my favorite new burger place, but it was a nice change of pace. That being said, I can't see it becoming a part of our "regular rotation". I can't shake RG's (Denton) and Kenny's (Frisco). If you like a "fancy" burger and are more concerned with toppings than beef, this might be for you. But if you do go, get the sweet potato fries.

This is one of my favorite places to go in downtown McKinney. We come here every time we are on the square -- it's my husband and I's favorite date night! We sit at the bar and the bartender's are always so nice and helpful. My favorite is the salmon burger (hint: order it with the garlic aioli instead of the dill sauce). We always have great service and the food is always 100%. Best place on the square, hands down.

My friend and I were taking a long lunch and stopped in to Square Burger before shopping in the cute stores around the square. My friend had raved about Square Burger and I had read all the amazing reviews, so my tummy was rumbling with excitement! It was a cute little restaurant and the floor to ceiling chalkboard which had specials written on it was fun to look at. There were several burgers that caught my eye, especially the Lamb Burger which had a gyro-like theme, but I ended up ordering the Turkey Burger and my friend and I split a basket of sweet potato fries which came out with an amazing garlic mayo that I could not stop eating! I probably would have licked the container if I were dining in the privacy of my home. The burger also lived up to the hype, although I wished I would have branched out with one of the specialty burgers. I wasn't a huge fan of the whole wheat bun...I thought it tasted a little dry. But that is my own fault for going for the "healthy" burger. I definitely plan to return to try out many other of their extravagant burgers (and of course more of the garlic mayo)!

I said hot damn! Had all the burgers there, and they're all good. My fav is Ahi Tuna Burger, The High Society Burger, and those lil cookies and ice cream sandwiches. Get Some!!

Good burger and sides. My only beef was the cheddar cheese they use. A 6 year old cheddar is good, but on the burger itself, it is over powering. My wife and I love cheese, but it was almost too much. When we go back, we will ask for no cheese. Also, a nice beer selection.

I have been to Square Burger two times now, and I haven't been disappointed. Service is consistent. - very attentive staff, which I appreciate. The first time I went to Square Burger I had the spicy wings. They had good flavor, but not really spicy. My husband and I also had sweet potato fries. That was really good. We ended up here because we follow the Paleo diet. If you follow the same diet and order the sweet potato fries, be sure to tell not to add cinnamon and sugar. The menu doesn't mention that it's covered in it. I tried their salmon salad. It was a salmon patty, which was juicy and had lots of flavor. I was really impressed with the greens itself, because it had layers of flavors and various textures. It had cashews, apples, spring mix greens, and it was dressed just right. My husband had a burger the first time, which he said tasted pretty good and was nice and juicy. When we went back, he had the lamb chops. He ordered two, but they made a mistake and gave him three. Thank goodness for the mistake, because they were tiny! He still didn't have any complaints. He said they were delicious and had a smoky flavor. Our overall experience was great...not over-the-top, but above average for a lot of restaurants.

Stopped in for lunch today with Mom. I got the lamb burger and she got the high society burger, sharing an order of sweet potato fries. The food took a little while to come out from the kitchen, another table that was seated literally just before us had their check before our food was even delivered. So that was hard to watch when they're really hungry. Anyways, the atmosphere at lunch is a little odd, I feel like the place looks a lot better at night. During the day it was a huge room with people on their lunch break, with servers having to squeeze in between the tables that are really close together. The draft list was nice, lots of good beers, but I'd like to see more seasonal or rotating beers. There were a lot of Franconia beers on the list, supporting the local brewery. Anyways, the food came out as ordered, was tasty, but messy. The burgers were served open faced, and you have to assemble yourself. My lamb burger came on pita bread, and I found it hard to hang on to everything, as toppings kept falling off. Mom's high society burger could have used more prosciutto, there was just one small piece that barely covered her burger. The sweet potato fries were fantastic, they came with an aioli dipping sauce. Mom only ate half her burger, so she asked for a take out box but accidentally left it on the table. We hadn't even made it to the corner yet when we realized and by the time she went back in to grab it, they had already thrown it away. Bummer.

Oh. My. Goodness. This place is as close to perfect as can be. Not at all a "burger joint"- and yes I know they serve burgers so please don't point that out. They serve art on a bun. Downtown McKinney is my favorite next to Shops at Legacy... The eclectic group of antique shops, boutiques, and food make it an unlikely hot spot. I digress. Have tried everything on the menu save the salmon burger. The meat is fresh, the sides amazing *try the mac and cheese appetiser- I jave actually considered concieving another child just so I can make it my "must have-because the baby needs it so get it to me now."* And the beer... All the lovely beer. Don't be afraid to take the advice of the waitstaff... They know their stuff. And if they bring you one that does not suit your pallette, feel free to pass it to me. I'm not pregnant... yet.

Great burgers and friendly service. My guy got the Blue Burger and was not very happy though. The burger itself was great but the toppings were not his style. My two friends and I were all happy with our burgers. I seriously think the Corn Soup is a must try! It gets busy so don't plan on coming with a group larger than four, unless you are ok with the possibility of sitting at different tables.

Yes yes yes....burgers are perfection. Onion rings and sweet potato fries delightful. I love the feel I'd the area. Hostess and Waiter were delightful. The interior feels comfortable. I love how every detail has been designed. You need to pay a visit to the beautiful bathrooms.

During a recent stroll through historic downtown McKinney we suddenly felt the urge for an earlish lunch. We were fortunate enough to stumble on "Square Burger" a ground bovine gem. As we peaked through the glass doors it appeared to be quite vacant, but after a friendly wave from a waitress and a glance through the menu, we decided to take a culinary plunge. As we browsed the bountiful burger selection the dining area steadily filled with equally hungry customers. Before we knew it, we were elbow deep in delectable fries and the most delicious custom burgers. Even if you hate burgers, visit "Square Burger" for their interesting and wide variety of beers. The atmosphere is really cool and the decor is a visual feast in itself. This is MUST VISIT!

Square Burger may not have put a lot of thought into its name but it seems to have invested multiple brain cells into the creation of its menu. Starting with the choice to use local grass-fed beef to the even distribution of bacon on top of it to the light tempura batter used on its rings, the quality of its product is no accident. It made me glad that I had contemplated long and hard on whether I should drive all the way to McKinney to get a burger.I know that this place has been on numerous best burger lists but it also has some fairly adamant detractors here on Yelp. That coupled with the drive (and price) had me on the fence. I am glad that I gave in to my sense of adventure. Let's start with the grass-fed issue. I am not a fan. I respect what they are trying to accomplish but the taste never quite gets to the level of the juiciness and flavor of plain old-fashioned ground beef. However, this was the best tasting grass-fed that I had sampled to date. The choice to use an ample amount of sharp cheddar gave my burger some bite and complemented the bacon that had been pared equally across my patty. Topped with onion strings and lettuce, this two-fisted sandwich barely fit in my mouth. For those who complained about the size of the offerings here, I am afraid of the burger porn that you must have been collecting over the years. The restaurant itself is probably far nicer than a burger joint should be and the open modern interior does clash a little with the rustic small town surroundings you will see outside the expansive windows, but so what? It all works! Yes, you will pay more than you really want for a burger. Yes, you will probably wait longer than you want on a weekend evening ( I went on Monday for early lunch). This place is a star in this neighborhood, not a square. Of course stars are far away. Maybe one day when I fly my own Serenity, I can visit more often.

The best gourmet burger in DFW. Located way north Dallas in McKinney on the historic McKinney Square. They have incredible hamburgers that are made with the freshest ingredients from a local market, including the best aged grass-fed beef you have ever had. This is not your normal greasy burger. On top of being able to get a great burger you have a nearly unlimited selection of the best craft brew and micro brewery beers on tap. I try a new one every time I go. By the way, I recommend the High Society Burger.

Went to Square Burger for their salad, family wanted burgers! We had a wait, and were finally seated right in front of the door. We luckily had coats, so we were able to make it through dinner, but it seemed colder and windier inside! The soup, which I was happy they had, was great. The salads, Caesar for my daughter and Fried goat Cheese for me, were also very good. My husband's burger was sort of small, and didn't come with anything. He did not rave about it. My sweet potato fries were excellent! The tea, was good, but we were at a point of not drinking it after the waiter spilled the ice on the floor and put the cubes back in the pitcher. When he came back within a minute with the pitcher refilled, I covered my glass and asked him to assure me that was a different pitcher. He said he dumped it and rinsed it out, and it was 'basically' like a new pitcher. No more tea for me! Another person came up to our table and commented that they noticed that scene as well. The did not order tea either. Then, there was the bathroom. I try to never go to public restrooms as a practice if only to wash my hands, but this one was always immaculate. Well, their cleaning person must have left. There was no tp in one of the two stalls, and the seat was broken. So, there was about 5 or 6 of us waiting in line inside for the one usable stall. There were no hand towels or napkins to dry your hands and the basket on the floor was overflowing. Definitely had gone downhill. I may try again, but will not ever order tea!!

Best burger in the area for my money...and for about $10, I'd say any money. Fries are excellent, plenty of beer choices on tap, and good desserts too boot. Servers have always been very good. I take all out of towners here. Pretty loud though.

Hands down one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Local beef, so fresh! Also their lamb burger was out of this world!

I wasn't going to write any more reviews on businesses on the square because I am so in love with the area that I am not sure that I am totally unbiased. Square Burger, however, is an exception. I am positive that I am not just a fan of it because of where it is. I'm not a fine dining kind of person so this level of gourmet is not something I would normally run across. These are burgers but definitely gourmet burgers. They run around $9.50 to $10 a piece. The restaurant is small but not too small. It can be a little loud when it's full. The inside is gorgeous - mosaic tap bar, tin ceilings, the floor is terrazo and wood. Everything is hand made and local. The owners (one is the chef) and the sous chef all have backgrounds at Wolfgang Puck's, so I'm really not using the term gourmet loosely. The sweet potato fries are the best I've had. They are cut really thin and covered in cinnamon and, I think, sugar. I can unreservedly recommend a visit to this place. It is actually worth a drive.

Came here for dessert and draft. Was not disappointed. Dozens of beers on tap and great cinnamon citrus fritters, served with orange chocolate ganache and whipped cream. Awesome spot in old McKinney.

A burger built by a chef is ALWAYS going to be better than a greasy spoon on the corner. This is definately in that category. Because of our burger competition- I had to eat the lamb burger and I will not complain about it- it was out if this world!! But the menu was not hurting for other options. I will be back to this place a few more times and enjoy every bite. This is a MUST visit place! The service was well above average, the food was an artistic creation with flavor to match. The sides were delicious and the deserts were home made creations- not just standard fare. Clean is an understatement- they show the same level of detail in all aspects of service, food and cleanliness. I can't find ANYTHING wrong with this place. YUM!!

Make a trip to McKinney and be a SQUARE! Well, at least try their food, it is good! I have been several times to Square Burger and will continue to go back for their great food and expansive beer list. Make sure you check the chalk board for their current beer list and specials. Nestled on the corner of the old downtown "square," this burger joint has massive windows on two sides that brighten the restaurant and make it a great place to eat. The ceiling is almost as high as the Dallas skyline, you will not feel cramped as you dine in this great eatery. If you can, grab a booth next to a window and people watch at lunch while you munch on your meal. The last time I went, I had their Ahi Tuna Burger with a spicy aoli and it was out of this world. A different take on a burger, but I enjoyed it! Their fries are shoestring and just crispy and salty enough. A+! The fried pickle spear that accompanies your entree never seems to last long on my plate. Crispy, crunchy, and delicious. One of the best fried pickle spears I've had. The breading is what sets it apart. Their beef burgers are phenomenal too! They're juicy and will not disappoint. Whatever you decide on for your main course, DO NOT pass up dessert. The proverbial cherry on top to Square Burger is their dessert fritters. Get them, eat them, and be happy.

The owners are always there, and they are extremely passionate about their business and customers. For those that review and state they are not burger people, they have quite a bit of other choices...so choose something other than a burger if you are "not a burger fan". The meat is as fresh as it gets as it is delivered from around the corner at the local farm to market. Have not had a single item on the menu that wasn't fantastic!

The food is top quality and the service is friendly. I believe it's priced competitively but you're always going to get people who moan. If you can't afford quality food, then go to McDonalds and its pink toothpaste burgers. If you don't want to wait in line on a Friday/Saturday night, there's always the burger joints along the 75. Great beer selection, a full bar, and cozy atmosphere. Definitely a must-visit.

Good burger. Didn't have fries with it, and I'm sorta glad -- my bill was $11+ for just my bleu cheese burger and water. Again, the burger was good... but I'm a poor college student so next time I want a burger I'll go to In N Out ;)

Great turkey burger made over a salad since I didn't want the bread. Alittle overpriced but food was very good. Coworker got the lamb burger and said it was extremely flavorful. Sweet potatoes fries were done right with an awesome dipping sauce. Will go back!

Not only does this place have an excellent beer selection, including many local choices, but the burgers are phenomenal. Having moved to Texas recently, I'm realizing that there are good burgers and beef in general everywhere, but I like the way Square Burger keeps their menu relatively simple, yet with diverse choices for every palette. The atmosphere is also casual, friendly and cozy, and the service was excellent. The bartender knew a lot about each beer, and made great recommendations.

The burgers are wonderful! They also have Sweet Potato Fries that are very good. Service is excellent and ambiance is quite so you can hear the person across the table when they talk. Will definitely go back for more!

So the food was really good. I was here with 3 others and a toddler. We all had the lamb burger. The low rating is due to the service we received. Server totally forgot part of the order and didn't think it was necessary to apologize. To top it off, he forgot to run our check and had to be reminded why we were sitting around waiting. Must have been having an off day but he seemed totally clueless. Nonetheless, the food was tasty. The experience not so much.

Awesome burgers. Onion rings that are thick, and crispy. And the beer selection - well, if you aren't into burgers, you could spend a LOT of time just trying their beers. Great balance of semi-upscale and comfortable vibe.

We are frequent diners at SQ Burger - we love the Lynne's Salmon Salad. Our last 2 visits have been disappointing. The salmon patty has been fine but something has changed with the salad or dressing. In fact on our last visit - instead of fresh halved cherry tomatoes - we got over-ripe whole cherry tomatoes that were marinated in something unidentifiable and should have been withheld from the salad. We are afraid to give it a 3rd try - If you are reading this SQ Burger - please look into what is different and make it like you use to!

There are parts of Dallas like Bishop Arts and the Design District where you expect adventurous, cutting-edge menus consisting of organic, locally-raised, and/or uncommon ingredients. When you find a restaurant like that in McKinney, you are happy it lost its way and found a home in the 'burbs. You just hope the chefs don't run for greener pastures (isn't possible up here, but just saying). Walk into Square Burger and you'll immediately see the list of 50 or so beers available, written out on a chalkboard. Finally! It's painful trying to read the taps. Also up there are the specials and desserts, which change all the time. Not in the mood for a burger? Have a Kobe Wagyu steak, or a celery root soup. I've been here several times, about half the time actually getting a burger. Do yourself a favor: stop in, sit at the bar, discuss with the beer nerds about what Ale or Stout you should try that day, and see for yourself why this is the best restaurant on the Square.

Easily the best burger in Mckinney. Rivals any gourmet burger place I've been to. As odd as it is, and as much as I live the burgers here, I always get the tuna burger :) Rare of course. The meat is incredible, local and grass fed. They know how to cook it properly as well. Great menu. If you want a little something more, have a wagyu steak (again, local and grass fed - from Local Yocal around the corner). Pastry chef on site making sweet stuff. Lest I forget, the sweet potato fries - level Michelin. Seriously tho, don't miss out on them.

Lamb burger was awesome. Will be back again. And the onion fries were really big and crispy and sweet potato fries were best ever tasted .

Square Burger is great. Whether you're getting one of their non-traditional burgers or simply a classic cheeseburger, you'll love their offerings. This isn't fast food, so don't hope to run in and out (and definitely don't try to eat this one handed in the car). I recommend the Lamb Burger.

Always look forward to eating here. The smoked salmon burger is wonderful! Cooked just right with 2 tasty sauces. The tomatoes are garden fresh even in November. Not sure if the sweet potatoes fries or the shoestring onion rings taste the best so get both and share them. Nice atmosphere, seems there is usually a wait- we were there during a festival and they took our number and called us. No the burgers aren't square- it on the square. Think they should make them square to add that touch.

Nice selection of local meat, veggies, and craft beers! Not your typical burger joint; offering a selection of chef specialities, salads, and other items. A bit small on seating, but coming in on a non weekend night and you will be fine. Food was good and take a sampling of their beers!

Ryan took me here on a date a few months back and I was very much excited due to the ratings that this joint had. I was also craving a burger. A juicy thick beef burger. Drool. First off, I love the area at which this place is located; in McKinney Square. Such a cute little township, you can definitely tell that it's a tight knit kind of community. The streets are cleans and I especially love the cobbled paths. Upon entering Square Burger, we were immediately greeted by staff and seated in booths by the window. I love people watching so it was perfect. In terms of the food, I ordered what I craved; a classic american beef burger. Yes, I know.. how unadventurous.. but sometimes it's the classics that are the best. In this instance, it was quite mediocre. The buns weren't fresh and soft and the beef was on the dry side, no juice. The only thing that I loved was the garlic aoli, I absolutely love love love garlic aoli... have it with their sweet potato fries and you'll be amazed. Other than that, it was just an A-OK experience. Nothing to rave about.

After reading some of the reviews I was expecting WOW... The place is nice not fantastic.. Menu is small and that's what I liked. We had the onion rings to start yum.. The burgers were tasty but not OMG.. Not sure if I would go back

A hidden gem in DT McKinney, best part about this place: their staff. Friendly, attentive...overall really good customer service! Now for the food, that's where the 3 stars come in. Lamb burger...ok, Jack burger..good, fries...crispy but nothing special.

Everything I've ever tried here has been supreme. No complaints and great staff. Sweet potato fries!! Mmmmm! That lamb burger tho.......YUM YUM!

We really enjoyed this place. Cute and quaint atmosphere and the burgers were delicious. I love the fried pickle spear that came with it. The sweet potato fries alone are worth the trip from Plano. The service was average but the food made up for that. Will return.

One word....YUM! I always start with the Mac n cheese. It is perfection with the sun dried tomatoes and tender chicken. My favorite burger on the menu is the smoky jack burger. It is the delectable combination of provolone, jack cheese, bacon, and onion strings. I always pair my burger with sweet potato fries. I have never had enough room for dessert. The ambiance and location is ideal, but the best part is the food.

Good burger. Grass fed, local beef. Cooked just right. I had the mushroom burger with a side of the caramelized onion marmalade, and that marmalade was darn tasty. Next time I'll try the bleu burger or the lamb burger. So the burgers are gourmet with swanky dressings/options like the ahi tuna burger or the "high society" with prosciutto. They seemed proud of their beers (not a beer drinker). The fries were nothing spectacular - I liked the onion strings though. This place is not really a super cascual burger joint like you might think...it has a bit more razzle dazzle going on. Give it a whirl.

I had high expectations for Square Burger. 4 stars on Yelp with a healthy # of reviews, good-looking pics of burgers, what more could I want. They even had a beer named after the great Robert Earl Keen on draft. That's got to count for something right? For starters, there were none. As in there were no appetizers to order. Usually at a "botique" burger joint, you at least see some sort of finger foods to try. Here, we had a gourmet mac & cheese and a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Both labeled "munchies" on their menu. Second, the service. Our waiter treated us as an afterthought, never coming by to check on our food, only when my beer went dry did he come through. Also, my wife noticed one of the bus boys flirting with some customers and then mocking the way some people were eating their burgers as he walked around the restaurant (he had his hair geled up in the front). Truly a shame as the burgers were good and juicy. All that to say, great concept, just poorly executed in my opinion.

The food here was pretty good but not as good as I had hoped given everything I had heard about it. I wasn't impressed with the atmosphere for a burger joint. My daughter loved her Nutella and marshmallow sandwich (big surprise). I would eat here again but I wouldn't go out of my way again to eat here. There really wasn't a good place to sit my family of five and I figured a burger place would be more family friendly.

I was pleasantly surprised after dining here for lunch after picking up some meat at local yocal. Service was very friendly and they let me sample 2 beers before picking one, but on to the important part..the burger. Ok - I had the Ahi Tuna burger because I was looking for something light. They did not disappoint! Often times, ahi tuna burgers turn out toooo healthy, resulting in a dull, burger experience. Not this one. Sliced ahi, cooked to perfection with an asian slaw and a really nice flavorful sauce. I've had a couple other ahi burgers around Dallas and this was the best one by far. If you are with someone that wants a burger but you want to eat light, this is the PERFECT option. Also to reiterate, service was spot on. I would return.

The food was pretty good. However, they have zero gluten free bread options, and when I asked if the regular buns were brioche, the waiter looked at me like I was speaking french as I asked the question. It's always a let down when the wait staff isn't very knowledgeable about the food.

Very good burger place with nice interior in a cute suburb of Dallas, TX. Salad was good too ... Would recommend it if you happen to be in the area

It was very good and I enjoyed the meal and so did everyone at the table did as well. A little note, when you pay +$10 for you burger you wont be getting anything on the side. You want fries with that? Prepare to pay for them.

Wow, this is definitely one of my favorite burger places. The meat is all fresh and organic. I had their High Society burger and it was delicious. I could only eat about half of it and our server was so nice to let me know that they do offer smaller versions of any of the burgers on the menu. The burgers are half pounders, but they do offer 1/3 pounders as well which is what I will get next time. People on here mention that it is expensive, but I really think it is priced fairly. There are sides of fries and onion rings on the menu that are like $5, but that is a basket to share for 2-3 people. You can add on a personal side for just $2. They also have a ton of craft beers on tap and a full bar. It's a cute, trendy place as well. We will definitely be back!

Lisa is correctomundo! Sean was awesome, he continued to joke with us our entire night there, even when this weird lady kept yelling at me for talking about the olive bar at Market Street (She reeeeeeaaaally didn't like olives I guess). They have a great beer selection! I personally really liked the Moose Drool, and Sean even found a beer for my non-beer drinking frand to enjoy. Most of the staff, in fact, were really nice and enjoyed a good laugh with us. I've read good things about the food, so I'm ready to go back and try a burger soon. I would fo sho suggest trying this place out!

  • David S.

We've been here a couple of times since moving to McKinney. The burgers are delicious and the sweet potato fries are really good. The menu selection is a little pricey, but the pricey quality burger places seems to be the trendy thing. The beer selection that they have here really does make the place appealing. We will be back again!

Terrific food! I had the smoky jack and my wife had the square burger. Both were great. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries. For dessert we tried the citrus fritters with orange chocolate ganache and whipped cream as well as the ice cream sandwiches. Just amazing. I can't wait to come back!

Great lunch. Husband's smoked moz burger (can't remember actual name) was incredible and if I had gotten same thing I would have given 5 stars. I got the smoked (what is our thing with smoked today?!?) salmon burger and while decent not smokey. An order of fries was plenty for us and our toddler- just a little annoying that they came separately and when we were already 3/4 done. Husband loved the beer selection. Staff friendly. Some people are complaining about lack of decor but I think the wall of windows is the decor- perfect for people watching and enjoying the square. A bit noisy and crowded, and yes, on the pricey side, but will def be back.

We had not been in this restaurant in a few months and we dropped by for lunch. We entered early at 11:30AM and that was a good thing since by the time we ate and got ready to leave the place was completely full of customers. The seating was prompt and courteous. The waiter was very good and explained the various entrees that were available. My spouse decided to order the hamburger, medium well and it came out exactly as ordered. I ordered the grilled pork chop which was excellent. It was served with a garden medley of small vegetables along with red potatoes. The meal was hot with heat and served on a square plate. The iced tea was very good and the glass was kept filled. We had a very good lunch with an excellent dining experience. While we did not order a beer, there is a long line of beer taps behind the long bar and many were ordering. There appeared to be a very wide choice. This restaurant is decorated in a modern style with lots of chrome, glass and white colors and we found that most interesting. The rest rooms were spotless. Located right on the square in downtown McKinney, Texas, forget about parking at the door. More than likely you will have to walk a couple of blocks to get to the restaurant after you find a parking space. Well worth the "hike".

Love the food here and at weekend gotta love the barman at weekends with his knowledge if the beer and food.-our last experience added to a previous experience with the hostess. As your first point if entry you really need someone customer centric without an arrogant attitude. So 9 of us walked out because this part was lacking with Samantha and after a previous experience we decided to go elsewhere versus accept arrogance.

Oh Goodness....this place rocks! Recently moved to McKinney and am still wondering why it took over a month to discover McKinney Town Square. The hidden gem in this geometric joint is Square Burger. It was a Saturday night and they were quite busy. We were quoted a short wait, only 25 minutes....haha. We left our phone number and were quite surprised to get a call from them 12 minutes later that they had a table for us. Gina was our server and she was fantastic. Welcomed us, explained the menu, and even offered samples of the LOCAL brews on tap....quite a few to choose from. After choosing a beer, she took our order. Being that we were in Square BURGER, well...you know....we had to try the burgers. Hubby chose the Lamb Burger wrapped in a pita. He ranted and raved on the phenomenal flavor it had...he was right. Very tasty. I opted for the Mushroom Border burger. All the good stuff (sautéed shrooms and avocado) kept sliding off, so I proceeded to eat my burger sans bun with a fork. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked to order. Sweet Potato Fries were shoestring and great served alongside a dollop of Roasted Garlic Aioli. Wish we had room for dessert...Gina mentioned something about made-from-scratch Fried Pies. In a nutshell, we will definitely be returning to the Town Square AND Square Burger. You won't be disappointed. We weren't.

When my sister moved to Texas in 2013, she was referred to Square Burger while in McKinney for an interview. She immediately loved it and began raving about it on Facebook. So naturally, my wife and I decided that when we visit her, we have to try it. Excellent choice we made! The burgers are huge and cooked very well. My wife and I shared a serving of the huge onion rings, while my sister and her boyfriend shared the lobster mac & cheese as their side. The variety of burger styles & toppings is wide, but we all opted for the bacon cheddar burger, which is topped with VERY sharp cheddar cheese. It was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderfully. And it's a huge burger, possibly a little heavier than the advertised 1/2 pound, so I couldn't finish mine, which is my only regret. You can tell that Square Burger is popular in McKinney, for while we were the first customers upon opening at 11 AM on a Sunday, the place got nearly full very quickly, but the service was still prompt and courteous. Square Burger is a must for a visit to McKinney. Very highly recommended.

Just another fairly new, basic burger joint. The beer was delicious but not cold, the burger was nothing special, and the fries were pretty ordinary. For the price I really expected more. Also the ambiance was pleasant, but the atmosphere and attitude of the staff was nothing to get excited about.

Square burger refers not to the shape of the burger, as they are most definitely round, but to the location on McKinney Square. True we are way up in the burbs here and this was not my usual Friday night debauchery but I had yet to try a burger....and I mean ever!!! I started eating red meat a while ago and had yet to venture into burger land. I sure as hell wasn't going to pop my burger cherry at McDonalds, so hearing Square Burgerhad seven varieties made from grass-fed, hormone-free meat made from McKinney's Genesis Beef. I headed North in search of Burgertopia For the record, they also have lamb, turkey and salmon but this time I was out for MEAT Downtown Mckinney is cute and the glass walled windows at Square burger are inviting (though there is no real sign on the outside just a small etched burger insignia on the door). The neon lit bar is inviting and with 30 beers on tap as well as all the usual alcohol libations this place is worth the drive The waitresses (and waiters) are gorgeous and friendly, and the interiorlooks more like a nightclub but its certainly family oriented with parents, kids, oldies and teens all gathered at tables and booths As this was my first burger, I steered away from the more creative variations and went for the stadium burger which had onions and a great spicy mustard aioli When you have never eaten a burger before, its hard to write a review and compare but...Man oh man was it good. Tender and well cooked with rich meaty flavours. The fried pickle was a nice touch too

My wife & I Eat here almost Every Sunday after Church. Nuff said. Upscale dining style with 1st class grass fed beef burgers. I love the way they prepare the meat too, something different about it, my favorite burger anywhere. Classy place from the beautiful terrazzo floors to the real towels in the bathroom. The wonderful natural lighting and high windows add a lot to the fresh bright atmosphere during the day but the adjustable awnings control the direct sunlight well. At night they have some cool blue lighting giving it a totally different vibe. Great Wait staff, great location for people watching from the huge windows. Wonderful desserts etc. Sometimes it's the little details that work together to make an enjoyable overall experience. At the risk of causing overcrowding & increasing my wait you should really try this place.

    (5)
  • Stephanie S.

Went on a Friday night at 8, still a wait. Ordered burgers, wings and sweet potato fries. Wings tasted like store bought, disappointed. Our burgers were ok, thought they were going to be better due to the long wait and overcrowded seating area. Noise level was a bit overwhelming. In fact I would not go back on a weekend night for that reason alone. Overall I was satisfied, but lot impressed.

  • Chris S.

This place was AMAZING! I highly recommend this place. The prices average right around $10 per burger. So just a little more expensive than your average burger place. But I have to say it's well worth the price you get a burger cooked the exact way you wanted. The staff is very very friendly. And the overall atmosphere of this place is very very cool. Honestly I can't wait to go back and plan to as soon as possible.

  • MJ S.

Great burgers. These are not the standard burgers, they offer things like lamb burger, Smoked Salmon Burger, Bleu, Feta, High society burger and more! They also have a whole wall of beer on tap. The only problem is that the place is often full, so seating takes time. Note, you just get the burger, sides are extra.

We have made it to Square Burger a few times since relocating here and I would say overall it is a great place. The burgers are yummy, the sweet potato fries are to die for and their beer selection is amazing. My only complaint is that the service can be slow. I appreciate that fresh food takes time but it is slow. Like I said the sweet potato fries are crispy and the mayo like dipping sauce that accompanies them is really yummy. I have had the stadium burger, blue cheese burger and both were very good. We will be back as it is a solid place when spending time on the square.

  • J P.

The problem for me is it is what I call a Fru-Fru, trying to be hip place. Ultra modern atmosphere, certainly not what I call a comfortable place. Definitely not Texan and rather a shock in downtown McKinney. What's with having to ask for salt and pepper? Burgers are quite good however, probably a 4+ stars. Onion strings were outstanding as well. The atmosphere just blows. Service was nothing to brag about. We had to wait for 20 minutes to get seated with 4 tables open the whole time. If you do a makeover to make this place fit the environment of old downtown McKinney (very cool) and this would be a favorite to go to place. Kelly's Eastside in Plano comes to mind as doing it right. I would love to visit again for the food but the atmosphere turns me off. 3 stars for what could have been 4+

Visited this place for a second time. There will not be a third. While the burger was okay, the service was horrible. Anyone like a waiter to take off for thirty minutes? Anyone like their waiter to be condescending and act as if you were an inconvenience? Yeah, neither do I. horrible service, high prices, and mediocre food gives this place an "F-" in my book. If you want a good burger , head over to Kenny's in Frisco. If you want to stay in McKinney, then just go to Denny's. better burger, better service, better prices. stay away from square burger and you'll have a better dining experience. Or you can drop $35 bucks for two burgers, two fries, and a beer. Yes, fries are $5 lol--- no better than McD's for $1. Your date will hate you for bringing them there.

Love this place every time. Today I had the lamb burger. This and the salmon patty delicious. Fries are to die for too

Wow. Horrible experience. 10 minutes in seat, every worker in the place walked by once, no one took drink order or even said hello. When asking for a manager, none on duty. We walked out at this point. Word to the wise, no matter how good your food is, if you can't order, customers will never know. There were at least 6 waiters on staff and the place was not slammed.

I've been wanting to try Square Burger for a few weeks. My son and I stopped in on a weekday afternoon. We were greeted and seated quickly and by a very friendly hostess. I ordered the lamb burger and sweet potato fries; my son ordered something else and regular fries. So here's the deal about sweet potato fries... I know they are 'better' for you but I never really like them when I order them. Well mark this down. I love, love, love their sweet potato fries. They were perfect. My son, 'the guy who doesn't like fries' loved, loved, loved their fries. My lamb burger was such a savory twist to a burger. The pita bun was perfect, the lamb was delicious and ... it was just dang good! I'm really glad we stopped in and am excited to go back.

  • Vivi V.

We have been there several times. Great healthy food. I like the fact that I can order the burger without the bun and have a delicious salad on the side. Love the location. Big windows! which makes it very nice when you're not seating in the sun. Can get a little noisy.

  • Royce L.

Best burger I've ever had. The burgers are a bit on the pricey side, but they don't cheap you out on it because they're some of the biggest burgers I've ever eaten! The "spicy" stringed onion rings were sooo good. I had the High Society burger, my girlfriend had the BBQ Bacon and Cheddar Burger and by the end we were both so full! I'm definitely going there next time and I recommend anyone reading this to try it too! The location is great as other people have said and the restaurant is clean and looks very nice!

  • Brooke M.

Since my first visit I have returned twice and all I can say is order the High Society Burger. It is the most insanely awesome burger I have ever put in my mouth. The sweet potato fries (dusted with hints of cinnamon) are incredible and order the Magic Hat #9 beer, you won't regret it. I have to stop myself from going back every day for more.

Let's start off with the atmosphere of this place. Stuck true to the name and it was cozy and music was good. As we got settled in the server was on point. Didn't know what beer to try but brought some sample and both sample were phenomenal. But I chose the left hand milk stout. Definitely one of a kind beer. We got some appetizers to start our day and they were delicious and tasteful. And overall I say this place is the place I will be willing to travel to 1000 miles just to eat. I'll be back for the burgers and not to mention their mini ice cream sandwich. Tasted really fresh

  • Chris G.

Burgers were tasty and their fries are good, but frankly this restaurant thinks its bigger than its britches, especially being located in downtown McKinney. $9.50 for 3 bites of a Mac & cheese appetizer is a joke. Even the finest steakhouses wouldn't try to pull off something so shameful. Correct the snobby attitude and come back to earth regarding what you serve and this would be a nice restaurant.

I really don't like the burgers here but I do love the spicy tuna burger (but tell them to cook it a little more than usual - sometimes it is like sushi - i like mine med rare not still swimming) and I like the salmon burger with the salad with julienne apples. I also like the lamb burger. I get my beef burgers elsewhere tho these certainly have a following - just not mine - I just don't like the meat. Secret: they will let you do the tuna burger with the apple/lettuce salad instead of the salmon. I always want to order an entree from the board but I never have - I will next time - they look great. Secret: you can order a small personal order of fries - that is not on the menu but you can ask for it instead of the huge, sharable order of fries.Personally, I think fries should come with a burger already but..... . Not a fan of the desserts but some love the mac and chz. Nice bar, no tv's to the happiness of some and sadness of others. Cool vibe and lots on tap plus full bar and wine.

The grass fed beef that is grown down the road from Square Burger tastes really good. Everything tastes wonderful and fresh. I would highly recommend this place. And you can get hammered on some great draft beers.

I don't write very many reviews (okay, almost none at all) but this place deserves the props and I want to see them make a success of their business here in McKinney. PLUSES 1. Love the location in Downtown McKinney. 2. We only waited about 5 minutes for a table @ 6:30 on a Saturday evening. 3. The food was fran-freakin'-tastic. I had the Smokey Cheddar, BBQ, Bacon Burger (not the exact name) and it was excellent. The cheddar was very smokey. It was cooked just right. Hubby had the Mushroom-Border Burger and he raved about it as well. The fries were perfect, and I'm picky about my fries - perfectly done, perfectly salted, served HOT. 1 order is more than *plenty* for 2 people. The food was cooked FRESH but served very quickly. 4. Hubby RAVED about the beer. They have an amazing selection and offer samples very freely. I think he tried 4 before settling on what is now his all time favorite beer. One very small drawback - The server was handling alot of tables and gave excellent service while she was with us, but it took her a while to get to our table and refills weren't as snappy as I would have liked, but they weren't so slow as to ruin th evening. Not a drawback or plus, but we were disappointed that we couldn't try their ice cream sandwiches. Something happened to their freezer overnight and their HOMEMADE ice cream melted and they didn't have time to make more that day. That's how fresh their stuff is - even the ice cream is homemade. The server was extremely apologetic then recommended the gelato store a few doors down (which was great as well!). PS - The freezer problem doesn't effect their food since it's NEVER frozen. Overall, I'm looking forward to a return visit!

My husband and I love Square Burger. We take everyone who visits us here. The blue burger is my favorite being a blue cheese fan. The sweet potato fries are wonderful and the dipping sauce is sooooo good. However, I think my favorite thing of all is the fried pickle that comes with every burger. OMG! I love fried spears! My husband likes the fact that he can try different beers everytime we go. A great place to go with friends, family or just to hang out. It does get busy so I highly recommend you go early or later on a Friday or Saturday night.

I don't quite understand a few of the reviews for this venue. I feel like some of them haven't been out of the house in a while. Very good service and great atmosphere on a any evening. I spent quite some time conversing with the owner about what was on tap. It seems that there are beers available at Square Burger that are hard to find at just about any other venue in Dallas and Fort Worth. It's not the run of the mill Flying Saucer or Gingerman. You'll find quite a few, rare, seasonal brews that are served up with lots of good knowledge from the wait staff. I only thought that I was well versed in micro brews, but not so much. Oh and the food seems to get an A as well. Just a really great place to hang or make it for a great meal. Check 'em out on the NW corner of downtown McKinney, TX. Great place! Hope they stay around for a long time.

I went downtown on a visit with back home with my parents and was surprised at all of the new food places. This was my dad's #1 choice to eat, as he hadn't had it yet, so we put in our cell phone number with the hostess and wandered around while we waited about 30 minutes. If you know you want to eat here, put in your number before you do some wandering or you'll just end up sitting around; it's a great system, though! When we were seated our waiter was attentive and fantastic. We all ordered different burgers and they were all HUGE and delicious. Definitely come here with an appetite! They had tons of beer on tap, it was a truly formidable selection. The Sweet Potato Fries were fantastic and the service was so good I ended up with an extra drink when I needed a refill. The only downside is the price and believe me, the service and deliciousness of the food definitely makes up for that. I'll be back.

The Lamb Burger is Awesome, but wear a bib! It's JUICY!!!! Great burgers, not the best place for kids, but a great place for a business luncheon or to grab a burger and a beer with your buds in an upscale, hipster setting. I dig it!

My first review of this place wasn't very nice. I decided to return. Stll love the atmosphere and beer selection but what changed this time around was the service and the food....MUCH better! I ordered a cheese burger again and this time, Damn good!!!! Juicy and full of flavor! I will recommend this place from this point on!

I tried Square Burger today. It's a trendy place, but expensive. The salmon burger was good, but not great. The hamburgers were dry and not large or tasty enough to justify the high price tag. The most disappointing were the "Tempura Battered Colossal Onion Rings." Imagine my surprise when I received four thin, medium-size, greasy onion rings. Not colossal, nor even good, and they are overpriced. Boiled down, it's mediocre food with New York City prices in McKinney, Texas.

I've experienced better food in this restaurant. The batter for the pickles has changed, the fries are different, the food doesn't taste as fresh like it used to, the food seems processed, the service is not as good, the bathroom isn't as clean and cozy with the nice cloth towels. We WERE frequent customers, but alas, we had to take Square Burger off our list when our daughter vomited her mac and cheese ( she used to LOVE their mac and cheese) while my husband was talking to our waitress about how is burger did not taste right. An Icon has fallen :(

This place is really yummy! They have a small menu, which I appreciate. Both our burgers came with a single, signature fried pickle. I ordered the "High Society" burger which comes with balsamic, fontina, arugula, tomato and prosciutto. The bread was soft, fresh, and yummy. I split an order of regular fries with a friend and there were still plenty left. They were great. The beer selection looked great, so I will be partaking when I'm not in the last month of pregnancy. They also had several specials for the day, non-burger specials. I am interested to return and try the tuna and the lamb burgers. Great service, very attentive.

On a recent Saturday afternoon, a friend and I decided we would hit McKinney to do some shopping. (The square itself is very cute - worth going!) Everywhere we went, we asked where was the best place to get something to eat. The almost unanimous answer was Square Burger. So we decided to try it. We arrived early on a Saturday, maybe around 5:00. Nobody was there. Perfect! You would think the service would be super fast. Instead, we sat there for at least 10 minutes just waiting to be acknowledged. When the waitress finally came over, she was clueless. She couldn't make it clear that the burgers CAME with sides. Seems like a simple enough question to me. I ordered a burger that had some caramelized onions, among other things. The onions were way over-cooked. My friend ordered a burger that had equally disappointing toppings. So much so, I don't even remember what she had. The sides were no good. Tasteless fried onion straws and sweet potato fries with sugar on them. The sugar totally threw me off, as I had never seen that before. In my opinion sugar on top of SWEET potatoes is a bit redundant. But here's the thing. The burgers were not good. Everyone raved about their fresh, organic, all grass-fed beef. I didn't see it. They seemed like pre-formed, frozen patties to me. Really disappointing! We sat forever waiting for the check and drink refills. By the end of the meal, the restaurant still only had maybe two other tables besides us and the service was still dead slow. I hate to see how slow it gets when there are actually people there. One last note - what they lacked in customers, they made up for with flies. Gross!

Found SquareBurger while strolling through down town McKinney at 11pm on a Friday night. When we walked in we were happy to find that they were still serving food when most every other place was closed. I was told that SquareBurger is a new edition to the down town scene. Inside, it is very light and modern looking. On several huge chalk boards are a list of all their beers, which are an excellent choice with any burger. However, if you don't drink beer you probably won't truly appreciate that aspect of this establishment. Between the three of us, we ordered soup, a burger, and a salad. Not one of us had any complaints about our food. The burger had grilled onions on top of it and came with a side of french fries all made from scratch. The salad, a Romaine Ceasar, was light and well dressed. We found out by talking to the bartender that all of the beef is grass feed, which meant more to us after we had just watched Food Inc. the night before and had seen how bad corn feed beef is. The price of the food was between $6-$8 for an appetizer or salad and between $9-$12 for a burger. We plan on going back.. It is nice to see more places like this openning up in McKinney.

"Genius. Genius. Genius." I love quoting "Mr. French" from Adam Sandler's movie, Mr. Deeds -- and this time it truly applies. People of McKinney, we finally have a cool, modern place to hang out and bring our visiting friends when showing off our town. Overall, I give the burger, Square Burger, an 8 out of 10 and I give the restaurant, Square Burger, an 11 out of 10.

I was in town visiting my roommate in McKinney and I had arrived pretty late, and according to her a lot of places in town had closed by 9. so after careful thought we came to Square Burger, and I must say I was impressed! The service was friendly and attentive (even for the crowd that was there about 10 at night) the ambience was lovely, I described the feel as a type of "Pleasantville" downtown restaurant. It felt like I was in the epitome of a small town semi-upscale "gastropub" and it was cool. We split an order of regular fries which were good and was definitely large enough to split between the two of us. I ordered the Mushroom-Border burger, and loved it! The mushrooms were marinated well, and the burger was piled high along with lettuce, tomato, red onions, and fresh avocado, but what probably got me was the fried pickle, which is hands down my favorite fried pickle that I have ever tried. I'm drooling as I speak! We were planning on going to a separate location for dessert but our server mentioned their ice cream sandwiches (where they have 3 different kinds) so we decided to go ahead and try one of each of them. There was a snickerdoodle cookie with strawberry ice cream, carrot cake cookie with cream cheese ice cream (we were most skeptical of this one), and a chocolate chip cookie with vanilla bean ice cream. The snickerdoodle was what you would expect from a snickerdoodle ice cream sandwhich, and the chocolate chip cookie sandwich were a bit too underdone for my taste (if you like cookie dough ice cream you'll love this), but the carrot cake cookie and cream cheese ice cream sandwich blew me away. I'm personally not a big fan of cream cheese anything even in terms of sweets, but the ice cream was extremely good, and although you could still taste the cream cheese, it wasn't the intense flavor you would usually get, paired with the perfectly made cookie went down as our favorite dessert of the night. Definitely can't wait to go and visit my roommate again! (just so I can get back to square burger)

I don't have much to say, honestly. I was not impressed...at all. Breaking news: The damn ciabatta bun ruins another burger. Once again, a burger that pales in comparison to Yo Mama's. Thank God I had filled up on beer at the Franconia tour that morning...otherwise I would have left starving. It didn't just pale though, the burger was crappy. I ordered a regular burger, but even if you dressed this one up...it would still suck. It is unfair to claim the other menu items suck because I obviously haven't tried them...and I won't. BUT, if you can't get the regular burger right, I doubt you can get the rest right. The waiter didn't know a thing about their beer selection. We asked about a certain beer and his response was "uuuhh....it's darker".....HA!!! The only reasons they earned two stars from me is 1. the restrooms had towel service and 2. the decor was uber modern and nice.

The man and I were on a mission for a great hamburger one night near McKinney, and of course Yelp's reviews won us over once again. I really enjoy going to the square for a meal with a walk around the square both before and after I eat. The area has a really nice ambiance, and I like sharing it with someone special. That said, the location of Square Burger is perfect. The styling of the interior is calming, fresh, and reminds me of something Gordon Ramsay would create, even down to the large chalkboard beer menu on the wall. This is a compliment for sure. The menu had interesting and contemporary offerings, all of which made my eyes glow in anticipation of what was to come. I ordered the High Society burger with thinly sliced prosciutto di parma, aged balsamic vinegar, baby arugula, roasted red pepper relish and fontina cheese. I couldn't believe the reasonable price for the topping, 9.50 with a choice of a side item. The burger arrived and it was almost too pretty to eat. I noticed a fried pickle on the side, and I was SOLD. The toppings were perfect with the grass fed beef. I will admit there were obviously quite a bit of breadcrumbs in the patty. This can help to absorb the fat but can turn some people off. I love a filling burger that's more like a meat loaf anyway, so it didn't bother me a bit. It was incredibly tasty, and I know I won't find another burger like it anywhere near McKinney. I highly recommend Square Burger for anyone who enjoys burgers with flair and enjoys trying new things. As well their beer menu is impressive, and their menu has other great offerings as well. (MAC AND CHEESE!) Try it out!

Love this place. I love their burgers and their onion strings. My wife likes that they have a smaller burger option for her since she can't finish one of their regular burgers. The kids eat well here which is another plus. Service is always friendly and prompt. Great food and it's right on the square so when you are done eating you can walk around Downtown Mckinney.

Little touches like the julienned apple and the sliver of smoked salmon on the nicely-spiced salmon patty are really good in the Salmon Salad. First time here. We'll be back.

I've been here three times. Every time I've left happy, satisfied and stuffed. Burgers are ah-mazing! I've gotten the Bleu Burger, Smokey Jack Burger and the Mushroom-Border Burger. Fantastic, all! Big, juicy burger, delicious bun! Spicy onion strings and sweet potato fries are super thin, totally greasy, super filling and delicious with a great dipping sauce I smear all over my burger. I can never finish everything, oh but I try! And the fried pickle! Great touch! Last time I came, my sister and I split the fried apple pie doo-dad fritter things for dessert. Three on a plate- we got 2 with caramel and one with cheese. The pastry crust was delicious. No core in the apple mix. These little apple pies put the pie Pie Emporium down the street to shame. Also, service. I've never had bad service here. The last time we came (12/12/14) we had the sweetest waitress who constantly refilled my water, checked in on us and I could tell kept an eye on anything we might need. She offered to refill my sister's iced tea the moment it was halfway empty. I got the feeling she might be new because of how super on the ball she was. Even though we were full, she described the desserts like a champ and I'm glad we tried the apple pies. We'll probably be back from time to time, even when we're not feeling like a burger, just for coffee, dessert and superb service. Atmosphere also great. Huge windows, high ceilings, clean and an upscale feel. And a very fair price. $35 for two delicious burgers, a tea, a water and the pies. Same price as two beers and two sandwiches at the Pub (which I also love), but this is a place I'd bring my mother for lunch. I'm glad you exist, Square Burger! You're doing it right and are a huge asset to downtown McKinney.

We really liked this place, but I can't say I would rave about it. The burgers are solid but not amazing. They have a good selection of local craft brews on tap along with some good non-local options for variety. The staff was friendly. The best thing they have going for them are their sweet potato fries which were some of the best, crispiest sweet potato fries I've ever had. If you're in downtown McKinney, it's definitely a solid option.

We just had a very nice lunch. All the burgers were tasty. The beers, sweet potato fries and mack n cheese (our appetizers) arrived promptly. They must have been backed up in the kitchen. Somewhat of a delay on the burgers. But, it was a fun lunch. Yummy.

This is the best burger I have ever had and the food is organic. I did not give 5 stars only because of the dining area, extremely small and extremely crowded. Very much in need of space!! Excellent Burgers!!

A store owner in downtown McKinney told us that Square Burger would serve us the best burger we'll ever have. My date's silent internal response was, "Uhh, have you heard of Kenny's?!" I, too, was dubious because I'm not much of a meat eater, so I wasn't sure what options I'd have. I'm so glad we tried it! I had a very deliciously seasoned turkey burger with aged cheddar on a wheat bun. YUM. We split an order of fries, and we were divided about regular fries or sweet potato -- our super-helpful server suggested we get a split order of half and half! Both were delicious. My date got some super-fancy burger with avocado and mushrooms, which he said was great, too. I also saw a table with huge salads, so I'd try one of those, too! Square Burger seems a bit like Liberty Burger because they obviously make all their own dressings in-house. I'm a weirdo who likes honey mustard on my fries instead of ketchup. The honey mustard was incredible! The atmosphere is very loud, but casual and very friendly. The service was great. They were turning tables over pretty quickly -- there was a bit of a wait at one point -- and everyone was very accommodating. I will definitely go back to try other things!

We had the crispy chicken wings to start. They were delicious, fresh & tasty & not soggy at all. We tried a simple cheese burger & the high society burger, both were excellent in their own way. All burgers are served with a fried pickle spear - yum! The staff was extremely friendly & everything came out quickly.

We always come here for special occasions and are never disappointed. Locally bought meat (most of it) which takes the freshness up a notch. Great variety of beers on tap, love the burger selection and cute desserts. The owner has gone above and beyond to make the customers happy here and it shows!

What a great place for a burger! Went with my new girlfriend for lunch and we had a wonderful time starting with excellent service. I had the lamb burger, it was cooked perfectly & tasted wonderful. Sweet potato fries with garlic aioli were to die for. Can't wait to go back to try something off the special menu. This place is definitely on the "go to" list.

This is my number 1 restaurant in McKinney. Food is so well cooked and prepared, good service, and clean. Not only are the burgers flavorful, the ribs are outstanding! The string onions yummy. I have never been disappointed, that is why I rated them 5!

I went in expecting a burger joint. I came out not knowing what I had experienced but I knew that at least they had a good burger. This is part burger joint, part gastropub, part funky, cool bistro, part traditional downtown eatery. The atmosphere is indescribable. That's not hyperbole. I simply don't know how to describe it. I had a plain jane burger and my wife had the tuna burger. My burger was excellent. Fresh ingredients, flavorful meat, quality bun, slightly underdone but that was the only knock. Really flavorful! My wife's tuna burger was unique and well executed. The tuna was fresh and flavorful. I'm not sure what the accompanying sauce was but it was a great compliment to an already solid dish. French fries were second rate fast food quality. Wished I'd tried the onion strings. Looking at the menu, they are trying to pull off fine dining and given their execution of the basics, I would not be surprised if they did it. I'd happily try the Wagyu ribeye or anything else. We didn't have time for dessert but they looked and sounded awesome (apple pie with cheddar cheese!!!) The service was fine. We told out waiter we were on a tight schedule and he ably accommodated us. This is a neat area (town square), neat town and neat restaurant. If it was as good on the upper end stuff as it was on the basics, I could easily give it five stars. Big smiley face!

Great quality food, it's freezing inside, bring a sweater, but the good was great. A bit on the pricey side and I'm not a fan of ala cart fries when buying an $11 burger.

Some friends of ours love this place and the reviews looked good so we gave it a shot. Great location. Great staff. Great decor. Good food...not great food, but good. Burgers are not difficult to master so my expectations were high to start with. Expectations not met. My reason for 3 stars is the value. A $10 burger should be great, not just good...especially when it does not include fries or anything else.

  • Sally C.

Excellent, quality burgers. Sweet potato fries have a dash of sweet & salty, not to be missed. Burgers come with a divine perfectly-beer-batter-fried pickle. Don't overlook the Specials board- pricier options, but meats are sourced locally- fresh, delicious, perfectly presented. Desserts are not an afterthought here- house-made ice-cream cookie sandwiches...mmMMmm. Craft beer wall is another stellar draw- best selection in North Metroplex area- with interesting seasonal rotators & a balanced array of styles. My only tip would be to come at off hours if you you're not big on noisy kids- the restaurant is in an historic building, the walls, ceilings & floors can really echo.

The tuna burger is very good, be sure to ask for medium well unless you like raw, as well as the macaroni ( more like Alfredo). The burger was underwhelming! It tasted like a meatloaf patty. The staff is hit or miss! I have left before from not being acknowledged after 15 minutes. The sweet potato fries are excellent! Be prepared to spend $20+ a plate!

The wifey and I were near by and decided to check this place out due to the yelp app on our phones. This place was outstanding. I say that this has been one of the best burgers I have ever tasted. I ordered the bacon cheddar burger and it was awesome. The meat was nicely cooked and had really great flavor. No need for hiding the taste of the meat with mustard or mayo. Just a burger with lettuce but that's all that was needed. The burgers come solo so you need to order sides of fries or onion rings, no really a fan of the fries but the burger was well worth the trip. Will definitely be back for another awesome burger.

Love this place. I eat here at least twice a week. The burgers are grass fed and they even have the option to get it without the bun and with a salad for gluten free/paleo folks. My favorite is the salmon burger and the celery root soup is delicious. Service is always good and they always great me with a smile.

Truly good burgers, including the non-traditional choices like lamb. Great beer selection with knowledgeable bartenders. Right amount of busy, and downtown McKinney location is great. Seems to be getting better with time, too.

Nothing square about these burgers, except the plates they're served on and their location on the Square in Downtown McKinney. Delicious and unique burgers, not your everyday boring beef and bun. Fiance had the lamb burger which he LOVED, I had a regular burger. We had a side of hand-cut fries, and the tempura battered onion rings. The place was packed around 1pm on Saturday. Bit pricier than a plain burger joint, around $9 per burger, but definitely worth the higher price. While we didn't have any, I noticed a full bar, and some interesting desserts. We will definitely return!

I have been sick for almost a week. How's that for an attention grabber? Let me clarify: I'm not at all physically sick, I'm heart sick. I was so disappointed by my Square Burger experience that it has left me kind of in mourning. I have actually put off writing this review. I have even toyed with the notion of skipping this review all together. But, the whole idea of customer - based reviews is predicated on the notion that the reviewers are honest. Good or bad. So here I am, with a heavy heart writing this review. You see... I wanted to love Square Burger. I wanted to fall head over heels in love with it. I may be partially to blame, in that I had built up my hopes so much. It's just that I had read all these fabulous reviews and I do enjoy a tasty burger from time to time. Even so, I don't believe that I will return. Positively, the place is adorable. Clean lines with bright, natural light. And, the positive stops right about there. We arrived at lunchtime (12:30 or 1 o'clock) last Sunday. Upon entering, we waited nearly 10 minutes to be greeted at the front door. The hostess finally arrived as we were seating ourselves and said that she was in the bathroom cleaning or restocking or some such thing. Without apology, she passed out menus. The server arrived shortly after and took a drink order. We were starving and so ordered an appetizer right away. Our server was unable to recall what might be on the cheese plate, but we ordered it anyway. Hey...I like surprises and a cheese plate sounds fast, no? We received our drinks and placed our burger orders. Literally 25 minutes passed until we got our cheese plate. The food runner had no idea what she was serving us and called over our server who was able to describe it. Along with said description, he let us in on the fact that our burgers were now ready. He offered to "hold" them in the kitchen until we were done with the appetizer. We declined the offer to be served burgers that had been sitting around and asked for them to be served now, while still fresh. By the way, the cheese plate was a little on the plain side. Nothing very exciting. For $14 I would have expected some love on that plate. A few bites into the appetizer, the burgers were served. We had all ordered ours medium, they were all over cooked, without a trace of pink. Consequently, the burgers were also dry. Two out of three of them were horribly under seasoned, as well. Just a little salt and pepper would have gone a long way. The sides were uninspired and thoughtless. The fried pickle spear garnish was pretty good, though. We finished, declined to go boxes and decided to forego desserts. As my husband said to me, "What about this meal would give you the inkling that desserts would be any good?" Good point, honey. So here I sit with a broken heart. All week saying, "I can't believe how bad the food was at Square Burger. I've had a better burger at (insert the name of ANY burger joint here)."

Had a number of friends suggest this place to us and we finally went. I expected alot, but was a little disapointed. The Atmosphere is great and the beer selection is awesome! Service is friendly and do their job, but most are teenagers and you will get the service of a teenager. We both got hamburgers and they were good, but not great. Maybe it was because I had high expectations. Maybe it was because my wife and I dont go out to eat that much without the kids. Maybe it was the 2 ladies with infants in wooden high chairs (not on casters) that were constantly pushing them back and forth to entertain them (they must have liked the fingernail on the chalkboard like screeching sound it made), but it will be a while before we go back. Maybe we will go later to miss the daycare.

Service is friendly, but not good. Not good at all. Since some of the waitstaff are teenagers, they can't tell you anything about the beers. It doesn't matter much to me, because I already know about most of the offerings. Burgers are excellent if they are cooked properly. Mine was overcooked last night. My wife's was perfect. I really want to patronize this place because the beef is local and grass-fed. I don't mind paying extra. If you don't like the burgers here (if they are properly cooked), then perhaps your taste buds have become accustomed to cheap beef. All this being said, Twisted Root is still my fave.

In one word: Incredible. You wouldn't think something as basic as burgers to be so darn good. It is. First of all, located in the heart of McKinney, great location, great walking town. Secondly, walked in and got a table for 6 on a Friday night. The restaurant was busy, but overly so. Started with their crunchy wings, sweet potato fries, and Mac-n-cheese appetizers. These were all great! The wings were great, I would've preferred more, but I look for any excuse to eat wings. Crunchy, tasty, great flavor. The Mac-n-cheese had subtle flavors, smokey, chicken, cheese, noodles, just great! The sweet potato fries were also great. Shoestring style and served lightly salted with an incredible garlic aioli. I don't even like sweet potatoes, but these fries were great. The burgers - divine. I had the Smokey Jack Burger. Tender, fresh meat, melted cheeses, onion strings, perfectly toasty bun. It was juicy, flavorful, beefy goodness. Their beef really is spectacular. Rounded out dinner with some desserts for the table. Apple Pies (with and without cheddar), citrus flavored fried "donuts" with sugar and cinnamon. We definitely will be going back! Don't miss this place, they take burgers to the next level.

Burgers themselves are currently wavering at a 3, but beer selection along with side items (sweet potato fries and "tempura" onion rings), cheeses/charcuterie, and quaint ambiance bring the overall rating up a notch. We visited on day 12 of service, and I got the distinct impression that there are still a few kinks being worked out. Our server was delightfully sincere and pleasant while entirely in the weeds. The place was definitely hopping and noisey - but we were able to walk in and be seated relatively quickly. My husband ordered a Mushroom Border burger. I ordered a Bleu Burger, and my Mom ordered a salad (house I think). She was visiting and along for the ride...she definitely enjoyed the whole revitalized old town square aspect of the expedition. I was totally shocked that when we ordered - we weren't asked how we wanted our burgers done. Isn't that like a gourmet burger gaffe? Not that big of a deal - but seemed odd...and everything was way too hectic to make a point of specifying degree of done-ness. Burgers were good...all individual toppings, bread, etc. were very fresh and delicious. I'm wondering about the meat patty itself...not sure I can absolutely put my finger on why it struck me as off. After some thought, I think its issues were that it was nearly well-done (not my preference) and seemed to be a bit too lean - lacking the juiciness and flavor I look for in a good burger. We also ordered a small (which was plenty large for $1.50) order of sweet potato fries and tempura onion rings- both delicious and big hits at our table. Also, the ketchup is definitely better than your average "fancy ketchup" - it had a great flavor & kick. We were pretty impressed with the draught beer selection, and in honor of our McKinney expedition sampled some local Franconia brew (I really liked the Franconia Wheat). Overall, a fun little jaunt and pretty good food...it seems to have the potential to get even better if/when the restaurant falls into its stride.

My husband found this place online while he was craving a burger, and found a place with some non-beef burger options for me. So we stopped in here with some friends today to try it out. I'm glad we did - the rest of the reviews aren't kidding about the sweet potato fries. They're worth a trip on their own. Sweet and savory and lightly crisp, and a perfect side portion for four people served with a garlic aioli. Our waitress was great, she gave us a little history of the place and walked us through the beer selection down to bringing over a sampling for one of our friends who was new to some of the choices. Apparently, everything is made from scratch, and all of the beef is grain fed. I think the clincher was the number of beers they had - even a micro brew from back in New England where we're from. But the main course wasn't too bad either. I had the tuna burger, which had an Asian flair to it with thinly sliced cucumber, some marinated mixed greens and a spicy orange sauce, which I think had wasabi. It definitely had a kick. This was served on crisp grilled bread, which added a nice texture. My husband had a burger topped with cheddar and piled high with thin onion strings. He really enjoyed it - wondering where he could buy the cheese and giving it an 8 out of ten. All in all, I'd recommend it, and I'm sure we'll be going back.

I tried to go here once before but it was a Saturday night and it was impossible to get in. We were in McKinney today and we decided to go in today and give it a try. My co-workers are always raving about how great this place is, so why not try it? First of all, the decor is sort of.. pretentious. The beer list is long, but the prices aren't listed so that's a hint to me that it's too expensive. We were seated not long after walking in, but long enough that we had already picked up a couple of menus that were sitting on the bench and were trying to figure out if we were supposed to seat ourselves. The hostess seems perturbed that we already took menus and made a point to take them once we got to the booth and redistribute them. Um.. Okay. I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it to spend $10 on a burger. The waitress told us that the beef they use is locally raised and that we would not be disappointed with our food. I was hungry and didn't want to bother going somewhere else and waiting all over again, but I should have gone with my gut. I ordered the Bleu Cheese Burger and my fiance ordered the mushroom burger. There was something weird about the flavor of the burger, which we later determined to be liquid smoke, since there wasn't a grill anywhere in the kitchen (my fiance works in a kitchen and can hear/smell a grill instantly). Why, on earth, would you taint beef that you're saying is local and delicious with something so gross as liquid smoke?! If you want a smoky flavor in your burgers use a grill for goodness sake! The texture of the beef left something to be desired too. There's got to be some kind of filler. The meat itself was almost inedible. The toppings were a page out of the same book. The caramelized onions were an atrocity, and the bleu cheese was kind of gross. The arugula, however was fantastic. It was probably the best part of the entire meal. I had to scrape the caramelized onions off my burger along with some of the cheese. The Ciabatta was pretty yummy, though. My fiance ate his burger but it gave him a stomachache so he had to stop towards the end of the burger. I didn't finish mine either. We ordered sweet potato fries with the meal and they were pretty tasty, but nothing notable about them. Neither of us liked pickles so the novelty of the fried pickle was kind of lost on us. I tried it though, and upon the second bite realized that the only reason I found it palatable was because the batter didn't suck. We passed on dessert. Thankfully. The bill ended up being $30 for two burgers and a sweet potato fries, after tip. All in all, the service was forgettable and the food was mediocre at best.

Amazing beef- best I have ever eaten! Grass fed - locally grown and ground. Sweet potato fries to die 4. Fabulous service! A must experience!

Went to check out this joint after we read a review in the Dallas Morning News. The food was good, but nothing I would drive out of my way to go get again. If I was in the area I would definitely drop by again. The burger was good, great bread, and some fancy pickle relish on the side, which was really nothing more then cut up pickles. I think the place tries to hard to be trendy and stylish, almost like a hipster. There were approximatively 30 beers on tap. I am not really a beer snob, but for those who are you would probably digg this place. I also had the onion rings which were great.

I eat on the McKinney square as much as possible to support my hood. Square burger is in an old shop that still has it's original big windows. Great view of the square wherever you sit. Service is ok, we always have some young kid just starting out as a waiter trying his/her best. I am fine with that. The burgers are ok, the sweet potato fries are great. Full bar with a ton of beers.

Tried this out today it was very good for an upscale burger. The prices are are about $9 to $11; bill was $30 for two burgers, large fries, iced tea and a coke. The burger was cooked medium and seemed lean but not dry. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the fries were good. A large order is more than enough for two. You also get a fried pickle on the side, also very tasty. I would definitely go back again and try a different burger!

The staff is super friendly and well educated on the menu.... they can also tell you all about the MANY MANY beers that they have on tap...the food is awesome....YES ALWAYS get the sweet FRIES!!!....ENJOY the chalk board special cause next time you come in the chef might surprise you with a special that is even better....you will never get the channel changed to what ever "Big GAME" is playing nor will you get a side of ranch....both are 2 of the reasons I love & respect this place soooooo much!!!!! Try it out.....you won't be disappointed....!!!!

I intentionally went to Square Burger late afternoon on a Monday to avoid the crowds, and so I could truly savor the experience...and I did! One benefit of coming in after lunch and before the dinner rush was that Chef Craig Brundege had time to stop by the table. He acknowledged that they were very pleased with the reviews here on Yelp as well as by professional reviewers. He also mentioned that early problems with the blend of the beef had been corrected and they no longer had problems with overcooked burgers due to the meat being too lean. Mom had the blue cheese burger and tempura-battered onion rings, while I had the delightful mac and cheese Leslie Brenner gushed about in the DMN and a small salad with lemon vinaigrette. Let me tell you, it was tempting to order more, but I managed to control myself. Next time I'll bring more people, and taste theirs! The blue cheese burger was big, juicy and flavorful with a plenty of warm, creamy blue cheese and a yummy onion relish. The Empire Bakery bun makes such a difference...this is not your ordinary pasty-white forgettable hamburger bun! The presentation was as fresh as the ingredients and very impressive. I wasn't quite sure that Mom could get her mouth around it, but she managed. And, of course, the tempura onion rings were excellent, based on the one or two (or was it five?) I sampled. My mac and cheese achieved a delicate balance of pasta and sauce (i.e. not drowned) accented by bits of pancetta, tiny green peas and a light crispy topping. Yet, it was rich enough that I was really glad I ordered the salad. The blend of tart lemon vinaigrette and fresh, slightly bitter greens was the perfect compliment to the creamy richness of the pasta dish. I'm really impressed that I resisted dessert, but that won't happen again. Each of the choices sounded tempting, and based on the reviews, well worth the price and the calories. We didn't sample the beers either, but one fellow patron confided that it was the lure of a locally-sourced brew that inspired him to ride his bicycle for miles to quench his thirst at Square Burger. I loved the clean, contemporary look of the restaurant, but hope the exterior signage materializes soon. The etched burger logo in the window is just a little too subtle. Inside, the attention to detail throughout was obvious and appreciated. For example, when was the last time you had individual rolled terry towels to dry your hands in a burger joint? If you can grasp the concept of hamburgers and fries as a fine-dining experience, this is the place!

Read that the Guide named this place a "Top Ten Burger". Well, they must not have been to Twisted Root, Angry Dog, Kelly's Eastside, or the Midway Point, all of which were omitted from this list. Eaten here twice now. The first time, I ordered the lamb burger medium rare. Tasted like a upscale gyro. Very good. Was it $15 good? I don't think so. The next time, ordered a basic cheeseburger, medium rare. Came out well done. Not much flavor. I know they aren't using a wood grill, so the smoky flavor I'm guessing came from liquid smoke or something. It wasn't horrible, but also not great. Sure as hell not top 10. Trying to be something they aren't. Too much money for what is served. They do however, have a great beer selection. Go if you are thirsty and let the pros cook your burger. Prices in this review include fries.

The mac/cheese and thin sweet potato fries with the garlic aioli sauce were so good. The ketchup tasted better than normal too so I'm not sure if it's a homemade ketchup. Onion rings were greasy but good also. The batter was light and crispy and the onions were thin and tender. Loved how you can actually bite through the rings without the entire onion pulling out. Delicious with the ketchup. For dessert were the fritters which were yummy. Light and almost bread pudding-like in the inside and crisp on the outside. The chocolate sauce and fresh whipped cream made it even better.

We came with our 2 and 4 year old kids on a Thursday evening. We were seated at a table immediately then the hostess asked if we wanted a booth instead because one was available. So we took the booth (nice to have her give us the option) We got the adult mac and cheese (Parmesan / Gruyere) and the kid mac & cheese. Same noodles for both. The adults scarfed down the adult one and the kids loved the kid one. I got the old classic, bacon cheeseburger, my wife got the official "square-burger". Our waitress was super nice and let our kids talk to her about their Buzz Lightyear and Princess shoes. She gave us multiple options on the menu and mentioned you can get a 4.5 oz or 7.5 patty on your burger. The fries were great, we got half sweet potato and half regular. My wife said the burgers tasted like my family's home-made burgers as opposed to the pre-formed patties we usually get at Costco. Overall, delicious.

I've stopped by here a few times now while in downtown McKinney. They have a good seletion of beer on tap, including my favorite local beer Franconia. I've always eaten at the bar so I can't speak to the other waitstaff service, but the bartender has always been top notch to me. each time I've gone, I've had the same thing, so I can't give a full menu review. I almost never do that, but when I walk in I can't avoid ordering the lamb burger, it is outstanding! Seems like it's probably a cool place to hang out when the sun does down, or bring your friends. Many more lamb burgers in my future here.

Overall ambience was pretty nice. I was impressed by the couple stool at the bar or maybe it's for real fat people. That's where my girlfriend and I sat. Their draft beer selection was pretty good, I had a moose drool ale which wasn't that bad. We started with the goat cheese salad. It was an okay salad. I had the burger with mushrooms, avacado, spicy cheese and bacon. I like to taste the meat and the bacon was overpowering. Oh, there was no avacado on my burger. I guess I misunderstood the bartender because he said they were out but when I saw another patron with avacado with their burger, I called the bartender on it and he explained he simply forgot... My girlfriend had the lamb burger. It was basically an overpriced gyros. We also ordered the fat onion rings. They were pretty good but really greasy. Oh, a fried pickle came with our meal and that was pretty good as well. Overall, not a bad placed but definitely overpriced. I prefer fudruckers or twisted root anyday. It's an upscale burger joint in downtown Mckinney and it's worth another try.

To die for gourmet burgers! I never thought I would get a yelp account but then I dined at Square Burger. I had a taste of my fellow diner's bleu burger, which was delicious, but my choice of the spicy tuna burger was extravagant. Fresh tuna with a spicy mustard sauce on the side so I could go as hot as I wanted. We also had sweat potato fries, the skinny kind that are so addictive. You know what I'm talking about. Yum...you can't eat just 10. Square Burger also has an extensive draft beer selection. I couldn't decide so the waiter recommended the fall brew...something called Fallenbach? I can't wait to try the others.

I recently had the lamb burger here. It was sooooo good. If you like lamb gyros, you'll love this. I also had the cinnamon sugar fritters with chocolate-orange ganache and whipped cream to dip them in. The description itself sounds delish. And it is! I can't wait to go back!

The burgers are really, really good. The onion rings are excellent - but the beer is off the chain! Try "Left Hand's Milk Stout Nitro" from the tap. I've been twice and the service is really good, the staff is friendly and helpful and the bar tender knowledgeable about everything from the full bar.

We've been here twice over the course of two years and the food has been awesome both times. We recently tried the pork chops and I have to say they were the best I've ever had in a restaurant. Fantastic draft beer selection! My one complaint has to do with the sun exposure that occurs in the late afternoon and persists until sunset in the summer. The booths lining the wall are uninhabitable. That area must be 20 degrees warmer than the rest of the place. Don't accept a seating there during that time period. Couldn't the owner invest in some window blinds and window tinting!?

Solid beer selection. Friendly, prompt, on their game bar tenders. The food is good but the burger deceived me. I ordered a simple "square burger". I asked for medium and what came out was not pink at all. The burger actually tasted a lot like meatloaf. Now don't get me wrong, I love meatloaf on most occasions but I really wanted a burger. It just didn't jive for me. The sweet potato fries were great. My wife had the spicy tuna burger and absolutely loved it! I will definitely come back, but I'll probably order something else next time.

Great food, okay service, still working out new restaurant details. Food = 5 Stars Service = 3 Stars An upscale burger joint in the heart of the McKinney Square. The burgers were juicy. flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Arguably, this is one of the best burgers I have ever had. The fries are delicious, but cost $1.50 on top of the burger which averages around $10. There are around 30 beers on tap. I will definitely be back to try all the different burgers. The waitress was not very good especially for a higher class establishment like this one. We were served with plastic cups (not her fault) which means we have less liquid then a normal glass. She should have done a better job making sure my drink was filled. I had to flag her down several times to refill our drinks. My wife and I received our orders at different times. There was a good five minutes between the time my plate arrived and when her's arrived. This restaurant is only a couple of weeks old and it is pretty noticeable. For instance, we arrived on Saturday around 6pm and had to be served out of plastic disposable cups because they didn't have any more clean glasses. We were seated in the booths on the north side of the restaurant and found that on one side of the booth the sun sets right into our eyes. It is clear that they are going to need some kind of window blind to alleviate that problem. I'm sure sooner or later that will be fixed. There are also no signs outside indicating the name of the establishment. Anyone not familiar with the area will drive past it. This is not a place for small children. We brought our 15 month old with us and it was a choir. I don't blame the restaurant for any of this because families with small children are not their clientele. They do not have cups with lids and kids plates are served in glass bowls. It would be okay for older children, but those of us with younger ones need to leave them with the sitter. If the service improves over the next few trips to this place I will be more than willing to bump it to five stars because everybody, even waitresses, have an off-day.

This review is targeted for the Gastro-pub enthusiast. First, they have new seasonal fresh dishes each week. We had their gnocci and I was brought back to my childhood in Brooklyn NY with my Italian grandmother. She cooked eight hours per day and cleaned the rest of the day. It is very hard to find restaurants that seek great ingredients weekly and cook up something magnificent. Square burger puts care and love into their weekly creations. Second, the burgers are a great blend of HIGH quality grade A prime beef. Most restaurants serve you choice or less. This is prime farm raised beef. I know this as I spoke to their butcher because he is our butcher as well. Third, the appetizers are well executed and robust in flavor. The wings are something my wife and I crave monthly. Fourth, this place is great for kids, families and or dates. Fifth, the deserts are composed of in-house hand-made ice creams and pastries with a great pastry chef. The prices are great for the quality and provide a superb value for the quality of the dishes. Eat well, often and be happy at this Gastro Pub in Mckinney.

I know it's called square burger. But I felt like a salad and salmon today. The salad was nicely done albeit small. If I'd had know I'd be getting a salmon patty and not a piece of salmon I'd probably gotten something else. Pretty disappointing for $ 10.5. The apple pies, three little ones and ice cream with Carmel were very nice for $5.5. so about $20 with tip and water for lunch. The service was slow. About 10 minutes for water. About 10 minutes to take my order. About 15 minutes for the salad. I had plenty of paperwork to keep me busy. I was here for about an hour and a half. Square burger just seemed a little off and square to me today. I came I tried. Maybe I need to come back for a burger.

This place never disappoints. High quality of ingredients, great flavor, attentive service. The lamb burger with feta and pita bread is top shelf. Great draft beer selection and knowledgable, friendly bar tenders who really take the time to tell oyu about the different choices. They are more than happy to let you try a sample of any of the beers. Great spot!

One of the best burgers I have ever had! We went on one of the busiest days of the year so we had to wait a while for a table but it was worth it! The price was a little high for a burger but they give you a fried pickle with your order so it works out! Had a great looking bar but I didn't have the time to test it out. I'll just go to Sonic when I want a cheap burger. Definitely reccomend!

The burgers are really great. The onion rings are awesome too. A great place for lunch and dates. It's not fairly crowded. I've only had to wait at the most 30 minutes once on a Friday night. Really delicious.

I went there for the lamb burger and it was just ok. I expected alot more from reading the reviews and the gourmet price of $11 for a burger. The sweet potato fries were pretty good, probably the best I've ever had. I had the hot wings as appetizers and they were average. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good, but I probably won't come back.

Went to square burger for the first time the other night with a group of friends. We all ordered something diffrent and shared and ordered a small of each appetizer to try. We were not impressed. The food was just ok. Our waitress was really nice, and they did have a great beer selection but we would not go back again. The burger was just ok. It seems they care more about presentation more than flavor. I ordered my burger med and it didn't have much flavor. For the price, I feel it is to expensive for what you are getting. I eat in downtown mckinney all the time, but I have now taken this place off my list to eat at.

It was my first time going to Square Burger. I was pleasantly surprised. Very cool atmosphere, our waiter (Cameron) was awesome and the food was great! I had the lamb burger - loved the presentation and it was flavorsome. I'd have to say the same for my husband's salmon burger. We also ordered the sweet potato fries and could not stop munching! Great dining experience. Another added bonus, we got to meet one of the owners - very cool! We are sure to go again.

Love this place. Not just for the burgers but my husband really has fun with the beer selection. Too many beers to try in one or even six visits.... Burgers are good - you can customize with a whole wheat too. And then there are those sweet potato fries. TO DIE FOR. We cannot eat there without getting the sweet potato fries. Prices are fine. A little more upscale but they are more than just a burger place.

  • Kayla H.

The food here is REALLY good, but somewhat over priced. Also, the last time we went, it took them 15 minutes just to get our drinks, and, after waiting almost an hour, we still didn't have our food. If they were super busy when this happened, we would have been more understanding. However, we were one of five other couples there, and the others all had their food already. So we ended up leaving without getting anything to eat.

The burger was good, although ive tasted better. But I do like the fact that they use local beef with no hormones. The fried pickle spear on the side was delicious. I LOVED the sweet potato fries with the garlic aioli it comes with. Next time I want to try the onion rings! They were huge!

  • Will Y.

GREAT food! The lamb burger is UN-BELIEVABLE. Sweet potato fries are awesome! Never had a bad meal here, and the beer selection is unrivaled! Only minor downside is they always seem to be super busy and the service staff (who are always friendly and helpful) seem to be just barely able to keep things under control. But then I guess that's a great problem to have.

  • Lori R.

This place is awesome!!! The burgers are so amazing and the portion is enormous, so unless you are really really hungry or don't like to share, their burgers are quite big enough to share if you choose to do so! When you first look at the prices, it can be a little scary to pay as little as $9 for a burger with no fries, but when you experience the taste and realize the quality of ingredients, you understand that sometimes it's worth paying the extra price for quality. It's such a great feeling to know that my family can go to a place that serves delicious healthy burgers with incredible flavor that doesn't make you feel blah afterwards! The sweet potato fries are a la carte, but the serving is so much that you can share and they are a great side with your burger, along with the fried pickle that already comes with your burger. I'm not a beer drinker as neither is my husband, but for those who are, they have a huge chalkboard menu hanging up for all to see the different types of beer and wine, kind of wish I did drink beer, just to try the unique flavors they offer :) so if your looking for a one-of-a-kind place to try and don't want to feel the guilt of a greasy burger, this is definitely the place to go! Great atmosphere and great food!

I have read many of the other reviews for square burger and I really feel sorry for those who had a negative experience. I hope they ate able to bring themselves to a point where they are able to give them another try because I would hope that everyone would be able to have the wonderful experience that we had there. First off let's talk menu. The choices you have just for burgers is exquisite. My wife had the mushroom burger with fresh avocado slices. Her sweet potato fries had a hint of cinnamon with just the right amount of salt. It came with a nice garlic aioli. I had the smoked cheddar burger that came with onion strings and a great smokey BBQ sauce. Our waiter looked like he was a model when he wasn't helping us, his name is John and was quite the fine server...those were my wife's words. The burgers are huge and we both took home half of our meal. White the cost was $11 for each burger with choice of sides, you get enough food for two meals so I thought the price was more than fair. I wish we could have stayed for dessert because the menu looked fabulous. One more thing...when I asked John what was so special about this place, he said that they get their beef from Genesis Beef (can be bought at the Local Yocal Farm to Market there on the square). Oddly enough, while we were there Matt from Genesis Beef came in and said hi. If you don't know about Genesis Beef, they provide 93% lean grass fed, hormone free, natural beef raised on a ranch in Durant, Oklahoma. One of the main reasons they recommend their burgers served medium is because they can trust the safety and quality of their meat. Sorry to ramble on, but our first experience at Square Burger was fantastic and I can't wait to go back and take our friends and family with us.

I live in McKinney and this is one of my new favorite places. The french fries are awesome both the regular and the sweet potato ones. The burgers are made with farm raised hormone free beef which makes me think they taste better. Not sure if they do but I really like them! the wait staff are friendly and semi proficient. Could use a little help there. First time in was a long wait. the second and third times were MUCH better. I am a fan.

Square Burger is one of those places that always lives up to expectations. Whether you're in the mood for a gourmet salmon burger with arugula or a classic juicy cheeseburger, Square Burger's got you covered. The sweet potato fries...my goodness... I have at least 3 pictures on my phone from 3 different visits of the golden orange fries baked to perfection with a side of tangy aioli. Whenever I wonder if it was really as good as I remembered... it always is.

Decent place..I'm not a grass fed beef kind of girl so I usually get the turkey burger. Service is good, even when the place is busy (aka weekends). When we can, we sit at the bar and the service there is even better. They have lots of local brews on tap and make a great bloody mary! To me, not worth the wait on the weekends, but otherwise I'll stop in. They have quite the cult following though, so maybe it's just me..

Wow! The lamb burger was great. It had a nice taste to it and came with a Ziziki sauce which complemented it and the condimemts. The fries and onion rings used a batter that made it nice and crunchy. It did not turn soggy at all. We didn't have dessert but will try it next time.

I believe we will give it a second try, for sure... We ate at the bar (cool room and the bar has "two-seater" stools that are pretty comfortable. It's a neat touch for a date. we would have probably been a little better off if we'd had opted for a table with a server to explain some of the menu items to a couple of first-timers. nevertheless, food was good. A little pricey @ $9 for a turkey burger plus $5 for a huge side of fries (which we split). LOTS of beers on tap (lots of local as well), but I'm not a beer snob. They also have a full bar, which is nice. It's pretty loud, but still has a cool vibe. We would like to bring our family when they visit, has a very 'home-y' and relaxed feel.

I don't understand the hype about this place. Honestly the only thing good was the meat. The burger as a whole really sucks. I got the Blue Cheese Burger and thought it would be similar to Village's. Boy was I wrong! There was no sight of blue cheese only what they call onion sauce and lettuce. The onion sauce really killed it, ruined the taste of the burger. It seems like the sauce was made of balsamic vinegar and onions. For the side I got the seasoned curly fries, very thin and seasoning wasn't well blended into the fries. The burger comes with fried pickle which wasn't too bad. The meat was the only good part of the burger. The beef wasn't greasy nor was it overly seasoned. Now here is why I'm giving them a low rating... I sit at the bar and the bartender gives me the menu. I order my food and wait for like 30 minutes until it comes out. As I am in need for more napkins I try to get the bartender's attention but didn't work. No one came to me asking if I needed anything. I sat there waiting patiently for the bartender but no luck. I finally get service but it was after I was done with my meal. Got my check and left a nasty tip. I understand I was sitting at the bar but the restaurant itself wasn't busy. So that is my story and I hope you don't get the same service.

Came in with the family for some burgers. I had the lamb, wife had the salmon and daughter had the turkey. We also had onion rings and I had an Abita saison. We were impressed with the great food, and will be back. The service was not great though, and pricing was a bit high for the area considering it is ala carte.

Review is based on price and quality. Burgers are overpriced and beers are way overpriced. Burgers are just ok and 6.50 for draft beers is way too much. Go elsewhere. Many other options here.

One of the new hip things is to have a fancy pricey burger, as seen by Liberty Burger, Hopdoddy's, and this past weekend I tried Square Burger. The decor is a bit meh, but the food more than made up for it but it wasn't without it's faults. The lobster mac n cheese was hot, had chunks of lobster and was gooey and great. I was kinda disappointed in the amount I got for 11, but it wasn't bad at all. I ordered a mushroom border burger that was fantastic, but the insides kept slipping out so I ended up just taking out the avocado and having a forkful between bites. That's not to say it was bad, but I find it highly annoying when you're playing air hockey with a sandwich/burger. The tempura onion rings and fries were great, not much to add to that. Total for 3 people ended up being $55 for 3 burgers, 2 a la carte fries and the mac n cheese, and while I really enjoyed it I wouldn't come here regularly at those prices. For a great burger, I'd still recommend Hopdoddy's but you won't go wrong if you stop by here if you're in the McKinney area.

Been here about 10 times and the chef really makes this place shine! High society burger is my fav along with the pork chop and onion rings! I recommend this spot to everyone and that is why they get 5 stars! Service could be more attentive but the they are always nice and try hard. I would love to see a buffalo burger on the menu!

The waiter Cody welcomed us right away and then proceeded to offer very good attentive but not overbearing service. We tried the tempura onion rings and the wings for appetizers and they were both good. Tempura a bit on salty side, but the flavor was good. Ordered the BBQ burger and the blue cheese burger and both were delicious. Again a bit on the salty side, but the meat was flavorful and seemed very high quality. Cody said it was grass fed local beef and I think that helps. All in all it was a nice experience and one I will repeat.

This spot is nothing but a winning lottery ticket. You continue to cash forever. I found this place a few years back and can say no other burger joint compares hands down. The chef here takes her craft seriously and is very inventive. It is nestled in McKinney's downtown square and is very modern. When you walk in you immediately notice the wall of craft beers in front of you and the endless wine menu up on the wall. Most everything on the menu is local produce and beef and you can tell from the first to the last bite. Appetizers are great but onion rings here are a true delicacy. Sweet yellow onions dip into a secret batter and fried to perfection. This tower sure takes two to eat. It is severed with a spicy mayo that compliments the real sweetness from the rings themselves. Wait I am not done. Burgers are upscale and have a pleasant little twister inspired by the chefs palette. My go to staple is her version of the western burger. All local beef cooked to your order (medium). Topped with fresh veggies and one of those perfectly cooked onion rings, and aged cheddar (you can tell it has a bite). She then finishes this off with a homemade barbecue that compliments every bite perfectly. Finally for dessert. The only dish you need to worry about are the donuts (if you can get them). This dish sells out quick. We call them donuts but they are really beignets. Covered in a delightful sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar and served with a tasty house made chocolate ganache that has the chefs twist on it. The ganache has a hint of orange in it making it refreshing and delectable all in the same bite. This is one of my top spots and would recommend not leaving McKinney without dropping in. You would regret it if you did.

Good burger, great onion rings, above average beer selection. My one complaint is that the seating process was a bit of a mess. With two entrances off the street and only one (slightly confused hostess) things quickly got jumbled. Nobody really knew whether to wait to be seated or to seat themselves, the hostess wasn't sure who was next, etc. That said, once we were seated, the service and food was good. Very large portions (my wife and I should have shared) and everything was very tasty. Bottom line, I'd go back.

The burger was bland. Smokehouse burger should have been left in the smoker. Spices, anyone?

After our discouragement with Sauce in downtown MCKINNEY TX , we were welcomed by the wonderful staff of the Square Burger. The food was fantastic, Wine was surprisingly good...we bought bottles... we will be back....we had a party of six...all were equally happy and will return. If you haven't been here....get here!

Had a decent experience. The staff is not friendly. Management does not follow up after food is delivered. They seemed to be pretty entitled. The burger was over cooked to what I ordered. When clarifying the temperature of the meat with the bartender he seemed annoyed having to explain what their medium was. Asked to have my food delivered a certain way and they refused due to presentation. Had the mushroom burger and was not considered a $10 burger. I don't mind paying top dollar for top quality but it wasn't considered top quality with my palette. Definitely choose Liberty Burger over Square Burger. Any location can have great or even good food, but you have to have all 3 components, great food, Clean environment, and friendly staff. They only had the the clean environment and food was good at best. Their chef choices may be of better quality, but as far as I'm concerned their name advertises burgers and therefor should have an amazing burger.

This was our second time to eat here and we really enjoyed the Mac and cheese last time. Waiter said they were out of it today so we changed our order. Heard people at the next table order it right afterwards and it was delivered to their table? Asked our waiter if they typically ran out of it on Saturdays and he said no. Didn't seem to understand why we were asking. Totally confused. Dinner salad was big and had amazing flavors. Corn chowder rich and delicious. Burgers are pretty big and messy to eat but meat is juicy and thick. Bleu burger was very good and onion marmalade was unusual. Rather expensive for a burger place but the food is top quality.

My boyfriend and I eat here quite often, it is a great place to get a good burger. There are many very friendly servers, but every once in a while we have gotten a bad apple. My boyfriend loves that they offer so many different varieties of meat to choose from. I absolutely love their fried pickles!

Really really great food! Lots of trendy tap beers if that is your thing. Fries are great, as are the tempura battered onion rings.

This place is fantastic, burger was bbq and AMAZING. Make sure you go early or late but right at noon to 1:30 on the weekend it is packed. Cute homey place but really nice. Staff because of being so busy has a bit of a tough time keeping up or maybe they were missing some folks but overall outstanding job.

  • Sarah D.

Amazing burgers!! The fries and dipping sauce was super tasty. The service is pretty good too. Its a really popular place, so if you decide to go on a weekend, expect to wait 45-60 minutes for a table. I am looking forward to going back, soon!

it's just not a great burger. we waited a long time for a seat and i thought the big crowd must be a good sign. i was wrong. i mean, it's not a super crappy burger by any stretch, but it isn't great; it isn't worth the money & time spent. locally sourced does not mean automatic admission to burger heaven. it's all very average. as far as the fries go: sweet potatoes are already sweet. that's why they are called sweet potatoes. they need to cinnamon or sugar or any jujing-up. the three stars? location, i guess.

While out stalking the perfect burger, I stumbled into this place. There was a festival in the square that weekend and the place was packed. The guy behind the counter was really upbeat and friendly. I ordered a blue-cheese burger and it really rocked. Though there may not be a perfect burger out "there" this is definitely a notable favorite.I will certainly keep this place in mind the next time I need to satisfy my burger fix.

This may not be the most well known burger joint in DFW, but it should be. We've eaten there three times and each time the burgers blew us away. This is one of the best burgers around. There can be an extensive wait, at times. But it is worth it. The tuna burger is unreal.

  • Bethany J.

When I came here for the first time, I wasn't expecting it to be anything amazing... But it was! The burgers awesome! Super juicy , but not greasy tasting. The bun even tastes wonderful, a little sweet, like Hawaiian bread. I've been to many of the "top burgers in Dallas" restaurants, and honestly I think this beats them! I will be back and will send lots of hungry people your way!

Good beer selection. I usually get the lamb burger and it is very good. Service is good.

  • Kathleen B.

Just love this place! I usually get the lamb chop special and it's fantastic. Last night I got the lamb burger, with out the bun and made it a Lamb burger salad. It was so fantastic I'm craving it today for lunch;) They buy all of their meats from the local meat market and they are so fresh and lean. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Weekends are crowded, so plan on a wait after 6:30 pm. My only request is that they open a store in Adriatica - this is exactly what we need in the west side of town.

Why you need to eat at Square Burger: --Gourmet burgers (and more) restaurant --Adorable location right on McKinney's historical square. Lots of glass windows so you can people watch. --The owner used to manage the now-defunct-but-well-loved restaurant Goodhues --The chef who controls the menu at Square Burger is a gourmet chef who has cooked at famous establishments --Quality ingredients --They serve mostly craft beer! Hello, Magic Hat on tap. --All burgers are served with a fried pickle spear Note: If you want fries with that you order a la carte.

Great food, great service, full bar, huge collection of draft beers. Our new favorite burger place. It's small and can get crowded, but it's also cozy and in a great location on the square. My wife had a BBQ Cheddar burger and loved it. I had a Smoked Salmon Burger and recommend it. This would be a nice place to just sit at the bar and enjoy one of the many beers on tap.

  • Shirley A.

Goodness, this place is so amazing! It's got a great atmosphere and staff. We were also content with the food. I was initially going to get a burger until I saw their alternative menu with lobster mac n cheese. It's got mushrooms and well... lobster and mac n cheese. They did it SO much justice! And I kid you not, their tempura fried onion rings are the best onion rings I've ever had. We will definitely be back the next time we're in the area, especially if we have any out of towners here. Just beware of parking. My husband is some kind of parking spot magician but I can see how it'd be difficult to snag a spot. There's tons of dessert places nearby and cool fact - the Franconia's Brewery was no more than 10 minutes away. Made for an eventful Saturday!

Saturday afternoon and the square in downtown McKinney is quite full. We chose Square Burger for our late lunch. We got a nice booth for 2 near the window so we could do some people watching. I ordered the bacon cheese burger and my wife the mushroom burger. Also fries. The fries were great Something unique about them. Our burgers were not so great. Rather dry and not too tasty. While our waitress tried, she was too busy which made service suffer for us. Several times we noticed 5 workers congregating in the corner chatting. I hoped for more but they did not deliver this time.

I've been to Square Burger a few times, and would definitely recommend if you're in the McKinney area. It's got a great location, delicious burgers and a GREAT craft beer selection. Specific notes... PRO: Ahi Tuna burger is freakin amazing. They house marinate some cucumbers and put this fabulous soy/teriyaki sauce on it. Seriously - it is the best. Mini ice cream sandwiches - need I say more? CON: Restaurant is one large room, so it can get quite packed and noisy.

Overpriced! This is certainly not anywhere close to the best burger I've ever had. Asked for burger cooked medium, it was well done. There Square Burger isn't worth the $9, and to charge $2 more for fries was ridiculous. They advertise the burger as having baby iceberg lettuce. WTH is baby iceberg lettuce? I'll tell ya, they slice up a hunk of regular ice berg and tell you it's baby? My friend ordered a Kids burger with fries for $5.50, and it looked to be as big as the regular burger, at half the price, and it came with fries! The meat on the burger had a strange flavor that wasn't just grass fed beef. Reminded me of meatloaf. I hope i don't end up sick tonight. The texture was finely ground over processed. They fried the pickle, what if I wanted it on my burger instead? Nobody ate the whole burger in our group, I think they were too polite to admit that it wasn't their best experience either. The little shoe string fries were cute for a few seconds. I asked for ketchup, they brought this cute little awkward 1 inch cubic dish. When I asked for Ketchup, I meant to bring me the bottle! There is more decor in Walmart than in this place. Blank white walls.... Like a school cafeteria. This place could not keep its doors open if it weren't on the Square and the sales from over priced drinks from the bar.

Square Burger is fantastic - their food is delicious, the beer/wine selection is excellent (& mostly American craft) & their service is always really pleasant. My favorite salad is the Panko Fried Herb Goat Cheese Salad & my favorite burgers are the Bacon & Smoked Cheddar BBQ & the Smoked Salmon a Burger. Keep in mind if you go on the weekend, there will be a wait because of the popularity if both the square & the restaurant) but as long as you are patient, it's worth it!!!

My friend Nicole suggested this place, as she frequents the area, but has never stopped in before. We met for lunch and both came away very satisfied. The prices seemed a bit steep, $4.50 for a plate of fries, but the cost is only $1.50, when you order a burger. The $1.50 portion was very generous, I don't think I could down a full portion with a burger. I ordered a lamb burger with sweet potato fries, while my friend ordered the turkey burger and regular fries. So, overall, the pricing was pretty reasonable. Her turkey burger was huge and she had to cut it down in order to eat it (not a negative)! My lamb burger was served with feta cheese, leafy lettuce, red onions, and a tzatziki sauce (cucumber yogurt). I though it was fantastic. I would definitely order it again. Her regular fries were just that, regular fries, but they were pretty good. I loved my sweet potato fries. They had just the right crunch, saltiness, and sweetness that went perfect with the lamb. It was served with a spicy mayo, which would probably be better served with the regular fries. Didn't quite match the sweet potato. Our waitress was very good, checking on us the right amount of times, without being annoying. We even received four refills of our drinks without having to ask one single time. Loved that. If you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping at Square Burger. We did not partake, but they have an extensive list of on-tap beer and an interesting wine list.

My bf and I were strolling through Downtown McKinney and we needed to grab a bite. We remembered seeing Square Burger back in Nov when we attended the Dickens of a Christmas but were unable to get a table so we decided to give it a try this time. The wait staff was "ok". They are just young and need to get a little more seasoned. :-) I ordered the lamb burger and I must say it was so good. Loved it and will order it again. One complaint was that it was salted a little tooooo much. Hold the salt next time, chef. ;-) As sides we shared a half order of onion rings which were very yummy and an order of their mac n cheese. WOW! You must get the mac n cheese. It was very good. Outside of the staff being young and needing a little bit more experience, I'd say I was happy with the experience. I am sure I will be back.

It's been a couple of weeks now since we went to Square Burger and I'm still craving another great burger! They have an awesome burger selection and they have other menu items besides burgers I want to try but on my first trip, I'm thinking I have to try a burger. Everything there is cooked on site, organic, and fresh. Nothing frozen. The fries are awesome. If you have heard of blanching your fries you will understand how soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside the fries are. Perfection! The beer selection is a bit overwhelming but they will bring you 3 samples to help with your selection. The desert we selected was called, I believe, Cinnamon Citrus Fritters. Heaven in your mouth!! You've got to try it. Lastly, as good as the food was, it was matched by the service! Gina was the best! She was so professional, and knowledgeable about the restaurant. She took her time letting us know all about the freshness of all ingredients, organically grown veggies, and grass fed beef. She is such an asset to the restaurant. We will certainly be back and we are telling all our friends to stop in! Good luck Square Burger!!

First off, I always thought this place was named Square Burger because the burgers were square shaped. Silly me, it is named so because it is on the square in McKinney. Figured that one out when my burger arrived and it was round. Nonetheless, it was a good burger and the bun was so soft and moist. We also had the wing appetizer and those were good. More on that later. The reason this is only a 3 star review is because: 1. The service is just okay. There were large gaps in when the server would come by our table. 2. They charged for extra blue cheese for the wings even though the amount they give you is not sufficient for the amount of wings they give you. Just build the cost into the price of the dish if that is the case. 3. There is no where to wait indoors. Since this place is often busy, you feel like you are in the way when waiting for a table, unless you go outside, which is fine in the spring or fall.

  • Kayla D.

I would give this burger place a 5 stars if they didn't mess up my orders. I had spicy tuna burger and string onion fries. My friend had lam chops and macaroni and cheese. I like everything about their burger, serve on a thin garlic butter toasted bread, and they used everything fresh from the local. Spicy mayo is not spicy, so don't be afraid to get this order. I like my healthy choice, so I love it. They didn't get my fries and waited forever for it. But the next table get their string onion fries right after they gave us the sweet potatoes fries. So that was a little disappointing, but I'm happy with my burger. Their fried pickle was awesome. This place is not so big so the line might build up pretty fast.

There are so many burger places in Texas and this just isn't among the best. The burger was just okay , service slow, waiter awkward. There is just something uncomfortable about the environment also...kind of cafeteria like and a large open space jam packed with tables and chairs.. They were accommodating by making plain macaroni and cheese instead of the appetizer that came with meat and what not but it didn't wow me that I would go back for it. Fried pickle that came with the burger was awesome as were the fritters. Don't be fooled by the term citrus...didn't necessarily taste that.

We had the Mushroom Border and while good it was lacking a kicker ingredient. The mushrooms were essentially tasteless. The savior of my meal was the fried pickle. My wife had the Bacon Cheddar BBQ and I wished it was mine. Extremely good. Overall our experience was great and we'll definitely come back but I will try something else than the Mushroom. Good selection of local beers. I recommend.

What a wonderful burger joint! My daughter first came here with friends, the owners wanted to make homecoming into a special night and treated the kids to some wonderful food and a good time. This place is very nice and not your normal walk in and walk out burger place. It's great for kids, families or anyone who loves burgers. The staff and family were fun and helpful which means they like working there. I enjoyed that no matter what burger I picked out I could order a turkey patty instead of beef. What a helpful, healthy alternative. We will definitely be going back.

Top notch burger joint that sources its meat from a local butcher (Local Yocal) and works to get a lot of their ingredients local, so as anyone who hangs out in Downtown McKinney knows - It's important to support local! The great news is you get to do all that while having some REALLY tasty burgers (I had the high society and loved it completely!), share some french fries (both sweet potato and regular are great), and some great beers. You'll love it, I promise. The only struggle is going to be finding a table!

Square burger is a really great spot for many occasions! You can bring the family here or make it a great date night. They have an awesome selection of craft brews from across the US. I was told the lamb burger would change my life...and they were right! We will be back and it's great having such a great spot in downtown.

Evidently this web site doesn't list negative reviews. The review I submitted on the 4/29 did not make the cut. Bottom line, the Square Burger is way overrated!

While I'm sure this is a better burger place somewhere in the universe, Square Burger eliminates the need to seek it out. This place knows burgers and what goes good with them. Make sure you treat yourself to one of their many draft beers (excellant selections) and deserts. While a bit on the pricey side, they do serve generous portions and I've never been dissappointed with the food or service.

  • Guairdean B.

The atmosphere's a little more modern than I expected, and just a bit noisy. The food and service, however, are top notch. I like my burgers well done, and lesser cooks haven't learned how to keep them juicy. The cooks here have it down pat. A juicy, well done burger with top notch condiments. My wife prefers hers on the hot pink side. Hers was also done to perfection. The portions are large, and the sweet potato fries (and dipping sauce) are a delight.

Wow!!! what a treat! my boyfriend and I went for our first time last weekend. no wait at 5:15 on Saturday. AWESOME, cozy booth w/ a view of the cute square and the horse drawn carriage trotting by! I drank a perfect girlie beer - Magic Hat #9. smooth and light, w/ undertones of apricot. his was dark and manly - Anchor beer. we had the sweet potato fries. OMG. crispy and sweet w/ garlic aioli for dipping! I almost cried. he got the lamb burger. it was fabulous. tasted just like a really good gyro! next time we will ask for a regular bun tho - the crispy pita was a bit awkward. I had the burger w/ mushrooms and bacon and avocado. sweet good heavens. pretty as a picture w/ the flavor to match! I don't know that I have EVER tasted a better burger. it didn't come w/ mayo - I had to ask for some, but Hayden brought it right away. speaking of Hayden - superior service!! we were so very well cared for. and it was a busy night! we also had the onion rings. crispy and meaty and delicious. alas, no room for dessert. next time we'll skip the rings, share one burger, and then we'll be able to enjoy a sweet finale! Hayden said the desserts are the best part! total bill - $40!!! pretty cheap date night in my opinion! I'm not sure why others have complained at the prices?? well worth every dime. I would have happily paid twice as much! we can't wait to go back...

I found out about this place via my Produce Rep. at my place of employment. I went that night and enjoyed a Bleu Burger, a perfectly cooked beef patties topped with the most amazing caramelized onions and fresh bleu cheese on a perfect ciabatta bread and met one of the owners Brandon and learned all about where the meat and produce were coming from. The beef is all Grass-Fed and ground within a block of the restaurant, at Local Yocal Farm to Market, and walked to the restaurant each day. It was not really until the second time that I fell in love with this place when I brought my wife and son and we enjoyed the food again. The beer selection is very good as well as the full bar. The flavor of the fresh meat is amazing and the proper pairings of the right breads with each burger is a tribute to the thought of Craig, the head chef and co-owner. If you have a love for fresh fries, do not leave without trying the Sweet Potato Fries, they have a cinnamon-sugar cocaine on them that makes you just keep eating and eating and eating. If you understand and appreciate good food you will love this place. The tempura pickle that accompanies each burger is also a highlight of each meal for sure, my wife sets it aside to have as her "dessert." Speaking of dessert if you like homemade ice cream and cookies, you should try the Ice Cream Sandwich Trio, the Carrot Cake Cookie with the Cream Cheese Ice Cream (made with farm fresh eggs) is absolutley awesome. Hope you enjoy this place as much as I do!!!

LOVE THIS PLACE! I did not get a burger- I ordered the salmon and salad and it was fabulous ( sugared cashew, julienned apple)- My partner had the basic burger- he raved- we shared the tiny onion rings because they were too irresistible& we also enjoyed the fantastic beer assortment- Magic Hat, Arrogant Bastard etc. and we came back after shopping for Ice cream sandwich cookies & coffee. Restaurant has a beautiful design vibe and has just the right combination of burgers and other options to please everyone's palate- McKinney is a fun place to shop for vintage and enjoy looking out on the the square from this restaurant- the booths have nice views and there are booths for 2 as well as fun seating at the bar. Highly recommended.

Have been to SB many times and always love it, however, when Mom visited and wanted a "great" burger I began questioning my ability to decide for myself what qualified as great! After reading some of the reviews and the consistent comments about overcooked burgers I almost decided not to take her, but thankfully went with my gut. Our burgers were cooked to perfection, medium and juicy! As always, the sweet potato fries were amazing as were the onion strings. Staff was super friendly, we were greeted the second we walked in, waitress brought everything in a timely manner and hostess came and chatted with us briefly at the end of our meal to make sure everything was good. Love this place!

I first visited this place about a half a year ago with my girlfriend and this place was the reason I even thought about making a Yelp account for a review. If I remember correctly, I had a balsamic burger with arugula and red onions. What I do remember 100% was that it was the best burger I've ever had in my life. The beef tastes amazing and fresh - the flavor is incredible. The atmosphere has a nice hip feel to it, and the vibe was very pleasant to dine in. I would recommend this place 10 times out of 10 to anybody who wants a delicious hamburger, because this place has it.

Came wandering in after trekking around the square- I was more pleased than I expected- and that's because I had a salad at a burger place! I ordered a turkey patty on the side since the salad was meat free- it was juicy but bland. The citus vinaigrette was bright and tangy- and the fried goat cheese was amazing. The person dining with me ordered wings but I never got a chance to taste them- was told they were mediocre but you couldn't tell the way they were inhaled. I would say the interior was bland- cafeteria style chairs- so I opted for a booth. I'm sure McKinney has much better options for a better price.

Great food and beer selection! However, the service is very slow, friendly, but slow. My husband and I have been here a few times for lunch and dinner and it doesn't matter what time it is, or how many people are in the restaurant, still slow. So my advice is don't wait until your starving to go there so that you don't end up telling the waiter off by the time the food gets there because your blood sugar level has dropped from waiting so long. Otherwise, the food is great!

Wow what a burger It is amazing. All Burgers are grass fed and I'm not even a big burger fan. However, this is the best burger I have ever had. The mushroom Burger has avocado, lettuce tomato, mushrooms -duh lol and is out of this world. They also give you a tempura pickle with it and it's the best and most unique fried pickle I have ever seen. Kelly was an amazing waitress and knows the menu well. Sheia a delight ask for her. She is th one with the Gleaming Blue eyes. Fantastic Burger

Traveling south, early September, it's evening, we need to eat or should I say we love to eat. But we like good food and not the national chain stuff. Eclectic, Yelp worthy. So we found Square Burger. It's on the square. Right on the corner actually. We were seated immediately by a pleasant senior citizen. The table rocks. And I don't mean that metaphorically, like "this table rocks!" I mean like I wish I had some matchbooks to put under this so it would quit rocking every time I put my arm down. My wife's lucky; she's an "arm on the lap" kind of person. Me I have to suffer the indignity of rockishnes. I had the Stadium Burger and my wife had the square Burger. The meat was quality, excellent presentation. We both thought the burgers were ok. We split an order of onion rings. Again, ok. The server took good care of us and she reminded me of my niece, Larissa, so she's got that going for her. She was great actually. Kept glasses full. Very nice. We tried the ice cream sandwiches for desert. Okay. So I've got no complaints (except the rocking table) but I wasn't blown away either.

We have gone here for years both as a family and for lunches with friends and colleagues. I always get the salmon salad! They have fun seasonal specials that I have sampled from my husband's plate and are always delicious (especially the vegetables)! The place has a bar and I've had a few of their drinks that were well made and fresh. It can be a little loud at times, so if that bothers you... You might want to avoid, however, this is a place that has consistently good food, service, and ambiance at an extremely reasonable price. Please go and enjoy a meal here- no regrets!

There is always a wait on a weekend. We love their beer selection. We have loved every burger, and every type of fry. The salads are good too.

I'm not a huge burger fan, but Square Burger is a staple in Downtown McKinney and I wanted to give it a shot. We went there on a Saturday, didn't know it was the same day as the Arts Fest so parking was kind of tricky. The wait wasn't that bad, surprisingly, about 45 min for a table of 5. There are about 6 burger options on the menu, they all sounded equally delish, but I opted for the most basic burger they have (the first one on the menu) with lettuce, tomato, pepperjack cheese, and pickles. The burger was definitely good, but I think there are better burgers out there. We ordered regular fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries for the table. While they all tasted good, they were a bit too stringy for me. The onion rings are cut so thin and stringy that it's even difficult to grab with a fork. I will say that they have a great beer selection on tap. Lots of unique and LOCAL beers to choose from, which I always love. The service was great, the prices are right, and the food was good. I won't be running back (again, b/c I'm not a burger fan) but I wouldn't be opposed to trying other things on the menu in the near future.

Good burger... Had the mushroom burger, no bun, and asked for garlic aioli...the amount of lettuce they give you pretty much turned my bunless burger into a salad so it was very filling. They're combinations of burgers are not too enticing... Therefore ended up with a simple mushroom burger... Overall if in the area and craving a burger it's a good spot... And they have tons of beer on tap.

Food is... decent. The fried pickle was good. Wings were ok. Burgers were decent but not $10 good. Beers are overpriced - even in Uptown a draft beer is $5. We stood at the door for almost two minutes before the hostess 'greeted' us. No stand to know if we needed to wait for seating. She didn't even know if the bar seats that were empty were available or not. Sat down at bar. The female bartender was conversing with a guy to our left and did not even acknowledge that we had sat down. Five minutes later, the male bartender finally took our drink order, but as soon as we tried to ask a question, he buzzed away to another activity. Bartenders were drinking beers every time the manager walked into the kitchen. Area behind the bar is quite dirty - especially at the bottom of the mosaic tiles and along the floor. Servers should NEVER wear their aprons into the restroom. That is just gross. Anyway, was going to give 3 stars for mediocre, overpriced food, but the service and cleanliness issues dropped to a 2.

Great location on the Courthouse Square in McKinney. Good food and always worth another visit. Lots of fun sitting at the bar with all the beers on tap coming out of the wall. Look at the photos

Close to five star! The meat is perfect and generous. Everyone around me seemed to be enjoying their burger. If you are an aficionado don't hesitate to go. The only reason I didn't give five stars was their burgers are served on a Kaiser bun. Albeit a good one, I'm a purist and prefer a more traditional bun. Atmosphere is great, clean and good service.

I had the Smokey Burger and it was great. The meat was juicy and flavorful and lightly seasoned. The flavor of the meat definitely stood on its own. They serve the meat at "medium" temp unless otherwise ordered. I found it to be more on the medium rare side. While I would have enjoyed a steak served at this temp I prefer my burgers a little more cooked than my steaks. Next time I will order it medium well.

An impressive burger bar on the corner of the square. Big windows and the decor is light and bright. Great places for a night out with friends, but we've also been with our kids on the weekend and it was equally suited for kids. The burgers were well appointed with fresh ingredients that compliment each other. The fries and onion rings are well seasoned and crispy. And the fried pickle that accompanies the burgers was a welcomed treat. The hard part is picking which burger to choose as they all look so good. Bonus, great beer selection.

Excellent burger made from locally raised ingredients and served on a light hallah bun! They do have a smaller version of their adult burgers available if 8 ounces is too much for you but you have to ask for it because it's not listed on the menu. Nice little tempura pickle on the side. Nobody ANYWHERE makes better cold brewed coffee. Excellent beer selection too.

Went to the McKinney town square for the Sunday afternoon. After venturing out the Square burger was the place to be!! Tons of wine and beer choices besides a good size menu we went for the sweet potato fries, I had the Mac n cheese and my friend had grilled cheese and tomato soup. The Mac n cheese to die for but the hit of the day the one thing I wanted more of were this SWEET POTATO FRIES!! delish!! I'll know where I'm going next time when I visit!!

Love me some Square Burger. You can get a great burger or you can go upscale and get something a little more eloquent and pricey. Our last trip, wife went with her usual burger while I decided to try their Pork Chop special off of the chef's menu. The Pork Chop was perfect and I would have eaten my veggies as a child if they tasted as good as the ones that were on the plate.

Chicken Wings are very good! Burgers are good! Donuts are very good! But the service is so bad that I always leave mad as a hornet! The servers are so slow and take their sweet time to wait on you if you aren't in the "good ole boy" club!

Five stars for the smoky jack burger, minus one for the McDonald's wanna-be French fries. The patty on my smoky jack burger was AMAZING. The onion strings were also a nice touch and crunchy. The fried pickle spear on the side was unique and the Franconia wheat ale was my choice after being offered two different tastings. I was only let down by our order of "house-cut" fries, which I expected to be less "frozen food cut" looking.

Square Burger has sort of a fun atmosphere, though it is a bit crowded on the weekends. The burgers are good but I feel it is overpriced. The cost of the food will prevent me from coming back more often. Tasty, just not that tasty for the cost.

Best burgers are here. I ordered a ... Forgot exactly what... But it was fantastic. My family brought me here all the way from Rockwall. I'd say this place is one of the best burger joints ever. I had a great time at the bar. The people are really nice and the Zinfandel wine was fantastic. Go to this place. You won't regret it.

Put burger in the title of a non fast food restaurant, and immediately hopes sky rocket. Unfortunately this place didn't meet those expectations. I ordered the Smokey jack, and it was just a burger.. Absolutely nothing noteworthy or unique about the flavor. The meat was dripping in grease and the bottom bun was soggy before it even hit the table. The burger also had a total lack of flavor. At one point I felt so bad for paying for it I forced my self to take a couple more bites. I'm sorry, but places like Hopdoddy corner the upscale burger market because they are more concerned about punching flavor and unique combinations than their interior decor and presentation. Skip on this place.

My family and I dropped in (6 people) for lunch. There were several tables open, but were told there would be a 25 minute wait since they didn't have 2 tables in the same server zone that they could pull together. It was plain as day that there were open tables next to each other, but apparently it would have caused a problem? Half of the restaurant was open with no wait list, no pending reservations.... and you're saying No to a 6Top? They offered to seat us at separate tables but said we would have to have two separate tabs. Really? Sorry we didn't meet your conditions, we left. No wonder they weren't busy on a Saturday during lunch peak time. I will not waste my time at this establishment again where they obviously don't care about serving their customers. Boo!!

Had a lamb burger and macaroni and cheese. Both worked great paired together. The lamb patty was really good. Ordered dark chocolate cherry cookie and chocolate chip mint ice cream; it was a delicious ice cream sandwich. If I lived nearby, I know I would be back to try something else on the menu. Sat at the bar and the service was great. Didn't have alcohol, but they have a great selection of beer and wine.

Superb burger! However like most good burg joints, whole damn burg falls apart while eating it! Drives me nuts. Always leads to messy fingers and for me to so my deconstructed burg where I'm forced to use fork and knife. Still, highly good! Fried pickle side, rules! None the less, come try!

Nice atmosphere and good tasting burgers. Wide variety of beer on tap. I had the High Society burger with fries and it was good. Parking wasn't that bad but it's down town so it is what it is. Located on the square hence the name.

the location of this burger place is perfect. right on a corner in downtown mckinney. when you walk through the door, there's no hostess stand. there's nothing worse than walking into a restaurant that you've never been to and you're not sure if it's self seating or "wait to be seated." luckily, someone walked up to greet us when we walked in. the decor here is modern but disjointed. what i mean is, they did a great job on the walls, ceiling and lighting but the tables and chairs look like something you'd find in a junior high cafeteria. they definitely did not look high end. the back of he bar is lined with beer taps. normally when i see a wall full of taps it makes me want to drink beer after beer. for some reason, this one wasn't calling my name. maybe it was the weird blue tiles that they used that camouflaged the taps? i ordered the pork chop. the waitress didn't ask how i wanted it cooked. when it came out it was well done, which isn't how i wanted it, but that's my fault for not speaking up. it was served over potatoes and a variety of steamed veggies. i was really hungry so i finished everything on my plate but there was nothing that i particularly liked about it. my wife ordered the square burger, which is a basic burger. she ordered her hamburger medium and her burger also came out well done. the bun was nice and soft and buttery. the meat was a little dry and flavorless. not the worst burger i've had but definitely not worth the $9 price tag.

Have been hearing about Square Burger for a while and was determined to try it. Went on a Saturday so there was about a half hour wait but not to bad. They take your cell number so you can still wander downtown McKinney and they will call you. Sweet Potato Fries were as everyone has said, excellent! Burgers were delicious and the selection of beer is impressive. My daughter, wife and I all had different burgers and we all liked them. They are large burgers so be hungry. Pricey but a good alternative if your looking for a good burger.

Wow! Customer service coming in wasn't as pleasant as it could be and not as helpful but service afterwards was excellent. We ended up meeting a couple as we were walking in and day w them for dinner. We ended up sitting at the bar because there were no tables, but were well taken care of. The Mac and cheese, sweet potato fries and turkey burger were delicious. Mac and cheese was our favorite and a must try. It was just enough good for 2 of us to share and not be stuffed.

First impression is the best impression. I must say I had a great experience here. The waitress was the best. I hate I can't remember her name but she was the sweetest lady ever. This place really let us down today, first visit was great. Today got the lamb burger very rare and juicy like lamb burger soup. Had to send back, they took it off, but I'm still hungry, don't think we will be back...

We are usually so pleased with the top service, including the hostess, but something was amiss today! We were told we had a 30 minute wait by the first host, who handed off to a girl, who told us although there were 3 empty tables that we'd have to wait until someone ahead of us whom she had to call came. Then, she handed off to yet another guy. When my husband pointed out a free table to him, he said we'd have to wait until hostess returned. When she came back, she said it was for 4 people although we were next. When the next table for 2 was available, she seated us with just an unsmiling, "Here's your table." Fortunately. the food and wait staff was as wonderful as usual. It seemed a low priority to get tables quickly cleaned.

The patties in the burgers are amazing. Fantastic crisp fries that are not overcooked. Get the split between fries and onion rings. No loud background music - modest space for a small restaurant. Sit at the bar and order if you can.

Really tasty burgers and really good service. The onion rings and fries were also good. My only complaint is the bun is small which results in a very tall and hard to eat burger. We will be going back next time we visti McKinney.

We love to try new places so this seemed to be a gem in the middle of the McKinney square revitalization. OWNERS- please fine tune this place- we would love to become regulars to sit at the bar for a casual beer, burger and fries! We thought that they had just opened due to the food timing and lack of service quality. Wrong- over 15 months already!! The owners placed a lot of attention into the decor- 5 stars for the beautiful renovated decor and for all of the beers on tap on that ultra cool tiled wall. The bathrooms open to the street which is a bit odd. Menu- limited but good execution. ( it is a burger place after all) . We do not eat red meat but there are fish burgers and salads. Good size portions too. Front of the house staff can make you or break a place and this staff is seriously lagging on training. Pleasant young staff but please - someone train them. You can only use the burger joint excuse so much and they are $10'ish burgers.... Take the dirty meal dishes off of the table before serving dessert, take the empty ice teas glasses off when you bring that refill. Bring spoons when someone orders those cute mini ice cream sandwiches- not forks. Do not ask if you want dessert when you are eating your entree. COMMON SENSE FOLKS... Some other things- do we really need to ask for salt and pepper? Does it really take 15 minutes at 2pm on a Sunday to receive a bowl of soup? That did not come with a crouton, bread ...even though the bowl was sitting on a 2 sectioned plate? Then the server brings out FOUR ( 4) saltines. Seriously? We will give it another try but be patient as they have been open over a year and have not fixed these areas yet.

Their claim is better ingredients, grass fed beef, fancier cheese la, la, la.... For $9.00 a burger (fries extra) I wanted it to be lick my fingers good. I ran out of meat before the bread (never a good sign in my eyes) and if it weren't for the Awesome sweet potato fries with delicious dipping sauce I would have had to go for 2 stars. This place is supposed to have a culinary trained chef for goodness sakes. It was okay. The service was good and the place was jumping at 11:30am on a Sunday. They did have an extensive list of beers, but I don't drink beer and since it was called "Square Burger" I expected the Burger to be better.

Imagine Wolfgang Puck himself opening a burger joint -enter Square Burger. In a word ... OUTSTANDING!!!! If you love burgers and beer like I do- then you HAVE to try this place. The burgers, fries, & desserts are a delight to any foodie. Everything is SO fresh and the service is delightful. The attention to detail the owners put into this place is evident from the buns all the way through the condiments. Burgers have evolved beyond "fast food" and now have a place in my heart as "gourmet comfort food."

I am a huge fan of any business that chooses to revive and operate in an vintage building. That being said, the vibe here is a bit stuffy but casual. The waiters seemed a bit too busy chatting amongst themselves to even help the pregnant waitress move chairs around. The poor gal ended up dragging the chairs making an incredibly loud incongruous noise. Well thats neither here nor there, on to the food: We ordered a salad, onion rings, burger, kids meal , etc. The caesar salad with "boquerones" was okay, maybe more on the meh side. I prefer the dressings and anchovies on the warm side rather than cold like it was on this plate. The "Simple Salad Green" was great, I do love the lemon herb vinaigrette. The tempura fried Colossal onion rings looked great and i didn't hear any complaints from the table companion. My husband had a regular burger and he didn't complain either so i think he enjoyed it. I dont think this is the best place for a family with small children ( we had our 2 year old with us). Though the staff was very accommodating, the tables are just too close to each other and quite a few people where there on business lunches. Overall this place is a great combination of location, decent food and good vibe. If only the pretty waiters would be just more ummm waiter-sy?? - I definitely recommend a visit to this place if you are looking for a casual , business or quick lunch.

Square Burger is a cute little place on the corner of the square in downtown Mckinney. Get the High Society burger - proscuitto, balsamic, arugula, roasted red pepper relish, and fontina cheese - SO GOOD. Other reviewers have mentioned that the burgers weren't juicy or seasoned well but I didn't have that problem. Maybe it depends on the burger. As for side items, I'm pretty sure the sweet potato fries are sprinkled with crack because you will not be able to stop eating them long after you are full. I thought the service was excellent...there are a lot of young people, but my waiter was attentive without being annoying and the manager stopped by the table to thank us for coming in. They also have a great draft beer selection. I'll definitely be back...I'll need a sweet potato fix soon.

By far the best burgers I have every had! My favorite changes from the spicy ahi tuna to the salmon burger back and forth. Also, they have the best fries, both sweet potato and regular! The staff is always very nice and the food is always prepared perfectly. Oh, and don't forget the deserts! The cookie & ice cream sandwiches are amazing!

Been back a few times, and they just keep getting better. Plus, all that celebrity hasn't gone to their heads. I've tried about a dozen beers, all great stuff. Still can't pull myself away from the sweet potato fries, so great. I was saving the lamb burger for the last thing to try, but I should have been eating it all along. It's fantastic, probably the best burger on the menu. I've been only for lunch. Next I'll have to go in the evening to try the regular, non-burger entrees and apps.

After rave reviews and the long lines that have extended out the door of square burger the past few times we have been, we decided to venture in and see what they hype was about. Thankfully we were not in the least bit disappointed. To start off, the ambiance is that of a chic diner where there is a mix of people from those dressed in business suits to those in jeans and t-shirts (staple garb for McKinney diners). Even for a Thursday night the place was packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were promptly greeted by a hostess who was most amiable and led us to a table. She also chatted with us a little so it was more than just, "Here's your table." Our waitress was delightful and gave us the scoop on the new restaurant which is now 22 days old. The beer selection was awesome (although again I am pregnant so I can't actually partake in the beverage selections for a while) and they offered quite a selection including Franconia (a local Mckinney brew that is really good and gaining a place in our hearts), St. Arnold's , and Moose Drool (just to name some of our favorites). We stuck with tea and never had to ask for a refill. The menu offered many selections including two dishes that I can't wait to go back and try: the smoked salmon burger with a creamy dill sauce and the lamb burger served on pita bread (yum). I ordered the mushroom avocado burger and sweet potato fries while my husband ordered a plain cheeseburger with onion rings. Although the side items are not included in the price, they do offer a small side serving for only $1.50 of any of the sides. (Our waitress let us know this after we started ordering large sides which could serve the entire table). The burgers were good although I would have liked mine to be a bit more juicy. I know others have written the same review. I guess we are used to fatty meat that drips off your burger when eaten (and seriously that thought alone sickens me) but, Square Burger prides themselves in having very natural, very fresh (it is delivered daily from a local processor) meat with very little fat. Much healthier for sure. The sides were awesome and my husband kept doting on the fact that the onion rings (not straws) were the best he has ever had and that is saying a lot. We will get a big order of those next time. The sweet potato fries were awesome too and were like crack, we just kept eating them after we both said we were full and my husband doesn't even like sweet potato fries. If you don't like crispy fries though, these are NOT for you. Overall we had a great Square Burger experience and we got to chat with one of the owners at the end of the meal. Our total bill was under $30 which is normally what we spend anywhere in the area for dinner (and now we almost spend that at Whataburger) so it was worth it to have a better than average burger and sides plus the atmosphere. We are already planning to go back on Saturday to take my parents.

We were less than impressed. For $50 (not including tip), we both had a burger (I had a blue cheese one and he one called the "smokey jack"), sweet potato fries, I had a glass of wine and he had a draft beer, and the mini ice cream sandwiches. First of all, the service: strange. Our server, who looked quite a bit older than we are, kept saying "dude." I get it, it's a "relaxed" place, but seriously? Dude? He was also so slow. Food: The burger was a bit overcooked (medium-rare) and entirely too thick. Also, they definitely use some sort of filler. Someone else mentioned breadcrumbs but I couldn't figure out what it was. My burger had caramelized onions on it, but oh my gosh were they overcooked. I had to scrape them off because they were so terrible. My husband's burger had liquid smoke in it. Big no no. Total turn off. The best thing about it were some fried onions. My ciabatta was good and my husband's bun was good too. However, they aren't made on site, but rather a local bakery (?) We weren't told where... The sweet potato fries were amazing, but with a mandolin slicer, cinnamon, sugar and kosher salt you could make your own. We'll do that in the future. Before I talk about dessert, I have to admit that I'm a dessert snob; I worked in an awesome bakery all through high school and part of college. I'm picky about my desserts! The ice cream sandwiches were: chocolate chip with vanilla ice cream, chocolate cherry with chocolate ice cream and snicker doodle with strawberry. The vanilla ice cream was practically inedible. Whomever is in charge of making the homemade ice cream needs to lay off of the vanilla extract. There is definitely such a thing as too much, and they had far surpassed that point! The chocolate chip cookie was totally forgettable and we didn't finish it. The snicker doodle was old and we had to use some heavy force to break into it with our spoons. The strawberry ice cream was good. Not the best, but good. The chocolate cherry cookie and chocolate ice cream were fantastic. No complaints there, other than they need to cream the butter and sugar for longer because it was a bit gritty thanks to the granulated sugar. Drinks: No complaints on the draft beer, somewhat reasonably priced ($5). The wine however, way overpriced. $9 for a mediocre grocery store brand? Never again. For a burger place I wouldn't think they'd mark up the wine that drastically! All that being said, will we be back? Probably not... I'd rather go elsewhere.

Square Burger was fantastic. The ambiance is fun, the staff was lovely, and the food was phenomenal! Their burgers are maybe the best I've ever had, and the meat is all purchased locally. They have unique and tasty deserts....the cheddar cheese apple pie was my favorite! Great restaurant overall!!!

Really would give the place 4 stars for the food, but the price is crazy. We can run up a $60 - $70 tab just on food with no bar drinks. Apps, salads, burgers, fries and a dessert...crazy for $70. We have been several times and the food does not disappoint, but the prices...eeek. The lamb burger is our favorite. Something special, although the onions are sometimes a bit harsh. Service is sometimes spotty, but usually ok. Some of the regular waitstaff are better than others. Good beer selection. Not as good as, say, the gingerman or a good pub, but getting up there.
