We try to get here before 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays or the line can get pretty long. The service is fast so even if it is long, the wait isn't terrible. Crawfish: 4/5 It's very good and flavorful. The last time I had medium, it was very mild compared to the other times we've been here. I would recommend medium over spicy because the spicy gets overwhelming after two pounds. Spicy Garlic Chicken Wings: 5/5 - As Khoi L. wrote, I'd come just for the wings - which is what I plan to do even after crawfish season is over. Thai Tamarind Chicken Wings: 5/5 - the wings are sweet, but not tooth-hurting sweet. I like that it still had a crunch and wasn't soaking in sauce. Seasoned Fries: 5/5 - they really know how to fry things. They were crisp and seasoned nicely. It's BYOB and if you check-in, you get 10% off your order (does not include the crawfish.).

I love love love the crawfish my first time going a few yrs ago they had only been open a few months but I have been going ever since they are delicious any day of the week

Crawfish trumps all food groups. Well except cheese and chocolate. But it's up there and LA Crawfish knows how to do it right. I really like to get Spicy Cajun and Medium Cajun (for when it starts getting too hot to handle. I'm obviously not a true Mexican). I also love getting 10% off for checking in. I don't like my car getting broken into but that's not something LA Crawfish can control. LA Crawfish you should talk to 99 Ranch and have them hire legit security or move to another location.

Spicy crawfish!!! Its inside the market. Parking is a pain. The place is counter service. I just panicked and ordered a few pounds regular seasoning. Forgot potatoes : / We did get some beer inside the market to drink while we had crawfish so that was cool. I think we paid $6 a lb The first round was tasty but not spicy enough. I went back to order spicy and get potatoes. Those were soooo spicy and delish. the area to sit it tiny. make sure you get there before peak hours.

It pains me to write this review because it used to be my favorite crawfish establishment, no questions asked. It used to appall me that ANYONE would even write a bad review for it because I frequented over 10 times last season and every time was perfection. But alas, my last two trips were beyond disappointing. My most recent trip, I was there with 10 people and NO ONE liked it. My 5 pounds were mostly dead before cooking/had been sitting too long that they turned into mush. Even the sauce was not like the usual sauce they served the other times we were there. Compared to other crawfish places I have been to this season, the crawfish here were still TINY! The entire party agreed that it was vile. We even had crawfish left over, which should NEVER happen! The wings... lemon pepper was still good. We ordered 5 different other flavors, and they all tasted the same. No words... just disappointed! Why have so many styles, but have them all taste the same?? To be honest, it was so bad that I might not be back for a long time. *edit - I kept going back time and time again, hoping it would be as good as it was last year, and it continued being highly disappointing. My bf started to refuse to join me on these excursions. The jumbo crawfish they advertise are not very big and still smaller than the biggest crawfish you will find elsewhere.

A little Asian gem hidden inside..an Asian supermarket?! WHAT. Why on earth this place isn't in Chinatown I'm not sure, but bottom line is this is one of my favorite crawfish spots in Houston. Why, you ask? LA Crawfish's crawfish (that's a mouthful, literally HA): - are large and plump (it's worth all that work!). and juicy!! - are bursting with flavor (i'd try both the cajun and the lemon butter seasoning - saves you making a tough decision) - are even better with their sweet potato fries (SPFs!) After you're done, you could have some Korean jiggae / soup just next-door, or grab a Melona bar at the supermarket on your way out - the possibilities are endless. So folks, do not be fooled. This is just not another one of your average 99 Ranch Markets.

Saw the reviews and gave crawfish a try... Very plain...will do at home next time I want crawfish

Just finish a bowl of their pho with meatballs and round eye. It was seasoned well and had tons of flavor. It reminds me of Tom Yum soup rather than a traditional pho. They do put tomatoes in their pho which traditionally does not have. I would totally recommend this place. I do plan to taste the crawfish, I just need somebody to have some with me.

Wow. Hands down the best crawfish in Houston. The flavors and freshness here are unlike anywhere else. Tried the snow crab in spicy garlic butter - outta this world. The spicy Cajun seasoning was on point too. This place gets super busy, the line no less than 10 people the entire time I was there, but service is quick.

By virtue of being located inside the Ranch 99 food court, LA Crawfish is one of the cleanest Asian crawfish places in Houston. The Yelp lead image and announcement sucker you in with "XL crawfish," though my most recent visit didn't yield mudbugs significantly bigger than earlier season March. I find size to be a function of seasonality and luck, anyway. I'm more concerned if the crawfish are too small or started dead, neither of which seemed to be an issue with LA Crawfish. Taste is a more primary concern, and I put LA Crawfish a cut above Crawfish & Noodles but still below the gold standard of Boiling Crab or Jolynn's. If ambiance is a big deal for you, LA Crawfish is one of the most user-friendly. Ordering is via counter, which avoids the nasty tip bug, though the wait times in line can get long. Seating is self-serve, and limited. If you're daring, dash off to the general food court and hope a random Chinese lady doesn't yell at you for it. I would not recommend sitting at the next door restaurant. The best part of LA Crawfish is two-fold: self-serve condiments (make your own sauce!) and BYOB. After you get your crawfish, you're pretty much left to your own devices. Also, another benefit to being in Ranch 99 is the ability to go snag a mediocre boba slushie after. Or, you know, stock up on groceries. Oh right, the food. Crawfish is $5.99pp, corn and potatoes separate. You can get regular cajun or Asian garlic butter, either option with varying levels of spice. I prefer Asian style here, and their spice kick is good. LA Crawfish also serves appetizers and pho, and both the crawfish empanadas and crawfish pho are mighty intriguing. Call in orders are welcome. They take credit but not American Express. That is all.

Crawfish is overcooked and does not have a balance of seasoning. Used to be my favorite place for crawfish but perhaps due to the crowd of customers, the cooking and quality control is not consistent. Hope they get their acts together and bring back the crawfish I endear in the past :(

  • Brettny J.

The only real problem I had with this place was that most of the crawfish were small. The taste was good - not the best. The medium (which is the least spicy spice level is pretty hot. And the last con was the setting. It was in a market/mall. Very ghetto.

Crawfish have such great flavor!! Some yummy craw daddy's! Delicious! Defiantly will be coming back! Crawfish were ready within no time! Hung out with some friends & drank a few beers & to make it better it's BYOB! So I don't have to pay 4$ for one single beer! Cheaaaaa that makes anything better! The only reason this place didn't get 5 stars is cause the place is small inside the 99ranch store! Needs to be a bit bigger for the amount of people that come here! But other than that, great!!:)

  • Jane D.

I and giving this place 3 stars for the beignets because they were really good. But the noodles I had were simply okay. I think it was their house noodle with seafood and sausage. It was a big portion but.....it was just okay.

  • Jennifer N.

Not too shabby. More affordable than other good crawfish places that have the "garlic" crawfish. Plus check-in with Yelp and you get 10% off! I didnt realize this til after I paid. =( They have 3 levels of spice.... we had the highest and my lips were burning after a pound, although my hubby said it wasnt spicy at all. They use chili oil for their spice so it's not salty when other restaurants pour more cajun seasoning to make it spicier. LOVE their spicy garlic wings. Crunchy, salty, flavorful, with a good kick! Their pho is actually pretty good as well. You know a pho is good when you dont need to add hoisin sauce. (We had the pho ga, so I'm not sure about the beef broth...) My only disappointments was that the potatoes were overcooked. Also, I always thought you cant really mess up sweet potato fries, but I found them to be pretty bland and some were not fully cooked. Other than that, the crawfish in this location is great. There's only a few tables here so I would assume that weekends will probably be pretty packed. Also, I tipped on purchase... but after I finished eating, I questioned it... I mean, Im picking up my own food AND cleaning the table, so is tipping really necessary?

Year round crawfish that are always delicious!!!!

  • Tiffany D.

Decided to try this place after noticing how packed it always is. Its delicious and I can't get enough! The crawfish and shrimp are both equally delicious as well as the pho! Ive tried the curry once too, and it was also very good. And don't even get me started on the crawfish empanadas SOOO GOOD. This place is definitely a favorite! The food has always tasted fresh and delicious. Anyone who has written a review about this place anything short of amazing is just picky!

Came here with some friends and was able to check in on yelp to get the discount which was great! Note that it is located in the 99 Ranch Market food court. There is only one flavor for the crawfish, which is garlic but there are different types of spicy-ness. When I ate here the crawfish were giant! Definitely a plus in my books! However I will note that the size isn't consistent. Overall the crawfish were delicious with great flavor. Also note corn, potatoes, and sausage are sold separately. Got some potatoes and it went great with the garlic. As for the end of our meal, ordered the dessert fries based on reviews. Great end to a delicious the meal! Reminded me of beignets covered with powder sugar and honey. Definitely would get it again.

wanted to try this for the longest time and I finally took a day off for my birthday and came here. Got 2 lbs of crawfish, one pound cajun flavor and the other butter garlic. It was good, the sauce made it so. I also got the combo pho which was not the best that I had and the blue crabs was pretty decent.

I've been here a few times now and even though it isn't my favorite place to get crawfish in Houston, LA Crawfish is still pretty good. Ever since I had garlic butter crawfish, it's the only flavor I'll eat so I'm always comparing other restaurants garlic butter flavor to each other. It's not the best I've ever had but it's not the worst either. If Jolynn's didn't exist I'd probably be inclined to say that this would be my go-to spot. But some definite pluses - Service is insanely fast and attentive compared to many of their competitors. One time after I placed my order and went to gather my condiments at the counter, as I was sitting down my order was already up! So, if you're on the go and starving then this is your place. Also, another good thing about this place is that their garlic isn't incredibly strong that you will be smelling it for days like you do at Jolynn's. So, if that's something that concerns you, it's something to keep in mind. I also love that it's located inside 99 Ranch, so I can get some bubble tea right around the corner or do some grocery shopping. Another favorite of mine from here are their beignet fries. They pretty much taste like funnel cake and who in their right mind doesn't like funnel cake? Again, not my default spot for crawfish but it's good enough to satisfy my crawfish cravings.

Read the review tried it! It was not well seasoned and expensive for a self serve place. Going back to Boilling crab ftw! To minson the commentor!! This is review due to my experience! This is my opinion not yours. You are only right about boiling crabs name not here anymore but la fisherman is still just as good! I was so unsatisfied at your place ! I guess you are replying because you are the owner . Any owner would speak good of their place. And actually la fisherman was cheaper than your place and taste much better. So if you dont like my comment do not read it. And just because jeremy lin is on your profile pic does not mean your place is any good. Also your are very good at your customer service comments!! Be better if you dont comment.

4 Stars just for their "Hotter Than Hell" Challenge...3lbs of craw-fish doused in their house ghost pepper sauce (check heat scale here: ushotstuff.com/Heat.Scal… ) , no drinks, no paper towels, seated in seclusion and given 20 minutes to finish. According to the cashier almost everyone quits after the second to fifth craw-fish they eat. She even suggested I just order a pound to try it out. She didn't know who she was messing with and I didn't know how much I would pay for it later. She explained the rules but all I kept hearing was "you have to suck the heads, you have to suck the heads"...that phrase turned into a faint echo as focus made up my countenance and I began to block out everything. The plastic bag full of the devil's bugs was set by my side and the timer started. I grab into the bag, twist the body from the head, suck the head, peel the tail and eat the tiny morsel of meat. I repeat the same process but noticing that grabbing the critters is slowing me down, I dump all of them on the plastic table cloth and go have at it. I hear nothing, I see nothing (some sauce splashed into my eye) and I definitely can't taste anything halfway through the challenge. I'm craving a cold beer at this point (they allow you to bring your own beer). At the halfway point I know I can take the spiciness, I just don't know if this being my first time eating craw-fish will keep me from finishing on time lacking the technique to do so. I lick my fingers (remember no towels during challenge) and this guy is done in 17 minutes. Picture is taken with me holding up a t-shirt that reads "I survived the LA Crawfish challenge BUTT my toilet (pictured) didn't" Now for that Milk Stout that is waiting for me. Couldn't really taste anything after this challenge except for their yucca fries, they were pretty damn good. Yucca fries? In a Vietnamese restaurant which primarily sells a Cajun favorite? Oh well, they were good. And yes it took almost two days for the burn to leave my system. (Not going to elaborate)

Byob!! The crawfish is great, not as cheap as I've found other places but still worth it for the atmosphere. Lots of fun to go hang out with friends, and there are usually a lot of people so you do have to wait in line. But, you can also get a little shopping in since it's in an asian market. Did I mention it's byob?

CRAWFISH HEAVEN!!! This place is absolutely AWESOME! I was going out of my way from the loop to travel to this spot. I love how it is located inside an asian mall / supermarket - it really lends to the uniqueness that is this place. The prices are moderate - maybe a dollar more (per pound) than some other locations, but it's honestly worth it. I am from NYC, and NEW to the whole mudbugs, crawdaddies, crawfish scene lol! BUT I AM ABSOLUTELY HOOKED! I've tried the traditional cajun style in several places within the inner loop, and besides RAJIN CAJUN which is REALLY GOOD, but also OVERPRICED --- nothing beats the flavor of the asian spicy style garlic butter craws from LA CRAWFISH. ON top of that, everything else they have to offer, from yucca fries, wings, blue crabs, shrimp and alaskan king crab legs --- it is all absolutely FLAWLESS! Just pure amazing, there is not much else I can say, but just praise the folks at LA CRAWFISH and Blalock Rd. Sadly... There is NO reason for me to go out of my way for this location, because NOW they have a NEW location on Richmond Ave right off Weslayan --- YAYYY!!! I would give this place 5 stars, if it werent so far away, and if the staff SMILED more... They always seem pretty depressed lol! PS: Just went to the NEW location on Richmond --- SUPER AWESOME! Young friendly staff, full of joy, and the same amazing selection and flavors found on Blalock --- EXTREMELY HAPPY! :)

My family, my friends, and I have been coming here since they first opened. As a fellow Coog, I am supportive of their business! This season has been a bit of a let down for me, however. I have been there twice this season and the crawfish, for some reason, were not as large as the previous years. They were medium sized at best. Also, a lot of them - the heads - tasted muddy. (ok I know they live in mud, but still...) The garlic butter flavor, always our favorite, has been inconsistent with the taste as well as the amount of the sauce in the bag. Sometimes I'd get LOTS of garlic (which I like), and sometimes it's nowhere to be found and the flavor was almost bland. And the medium spiciness was not spicy at all. Why? My friend said the same thing. I will give them the benefit of the doubt though, maybe they ran out of the sauce. My friend ordered the potatoes and they were so tiny I couldn't believe it. A large chuck was missing from one of the potatoes so they got 3/4 of the potato...that was already small to begin with. But, they made up with the HUGE blue crab. They were so tasty and meaty. That actually saved the day. I am not sure why the quality went down, maybe it was the too many customers demanding crawfish and they start to cut corners, maybe the crawfish were unhappy this season and didn't want to grow any bigger...Like i said, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I will return hoping that it would be better. If it doesn't get better, then I will probably find another place which is a shame because I live 8 mins from them.

I might be the first in my friend group to admit it, but on Sunday we went there twice. Yes, you read this correctly--I ate at LA Crawfish TWICE in one day. How did this happen, you ask? My crawfish-loving friend Jenny (NOT Jennifer M. for once!) first invited us around 2pm to get our peel'n'slurp on. The weather was absolutely perfect and put us in the mood, so we went for our first rendezvous since last year. Since initially we went for a "snack," Kyle C. and I split one pound of Cajun (medium) and one pound of garlic (medium) plus an order of seasoned fries. First off, I did NOT know that they will give you bibs! This was a huge plus in my book. While the paper towel rolls and plastic table cloths are nice amenities as well, I feel as though the bibs really make the experience feel as crazy as it looks. After we were set up, we got to chowing down and I suddenly realized that I actually like the garlic a little better than the Cajun. Is that blasphemous to say? Even more surprising was how much the flavor of all the delicious crawfish juice on my fingers contributed to the delicious seasoned fries I was shoving in my mouth. I was trying to wash it all down with a little Tsing Tao (BYOB in a grocery store is a GREAT idea) but there were definitely times where it was clear how much bigger my eyes are than my stomach. After we went home and relaxed, I couldn't stop thinking about how amazing our little snack was. As if reading my mind, my friend Jenny texted me again and asked if it was crazy for us to all go back for dinner. Sadly, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to a) do something ridiculous, and b) eat more crawfish. So we went back. This time, we upped our garlic count since we liked it so much but still got a little Cajun on the side just to make sure we were covering all our bases. Unfortunately they'd run out of the seasoned fries (!!!!) so sweet potato had to do. I tried hard to make them taste just as good by dousing them in sriracha, but I'm telling you, the seasoned fries + Cajun crawfish combo is just something else. It seems like in February the crawfish size ranges from medium to large, but they promised that March would see the more "jumbo" sized ones. Needless to say, we will be back. Oh, and...in case you're wondering what happened when we asked the wait staff if they had recognized us from earlier in the day, they said they hadn't and looked at us in what had to be a combination of absolute disbelief and horror. They asked if we lived nearby. We said no. They said that usually they get people who live nearby in a few times a week, but no one had ever come multiple times in a single day. We will forever wear this badge of pride with honor.

My family is from Louisiana, so crawfish on Good Friday is natural to us. The crawfish was seasoned perfectly. The only problem was that they were small, but my cousin said that this season (2014) sucked for crawfish. The andouille sausage was pretty good too. But I definatley want to come back to taste the other flavors.

Love this place. The Garlic Butter crawfish is delicious. I've also had their cajun style crawfish and it was waaaaaaaaay too salty. I normally can eat 5 lbs. of crawfish by myself but I couldn't even finish 2 lbs. of the cajun style here (very disappointing). The Pho Sate is the bomb! I am going to always put sate in my pho from now on. The wings are flavorful and the finger beignets are addicting! Not only is it covered in powdered sugar but it's also soaked in condenced milk! BYOB. You can also get a discount if you check in on YELP!

Atmosphere 4 Decor 3 Food 4 Service N/A Feel like getting your fingers dirty for a fun family meal. This is your place. This place is unexpectedly inside an Asian supermarket, but to my surprise the crowd here is not Asian at all. This place was BUSY...it is rly hard to get a table. I saw some people go to the next restaurants seating area and camping out there to eat. It is a byob crawfish place...and I recommend really buying a pack of beer before sitting down. The place provides you with paper towels and a plastic table sheet to cover the table before you start your meal. You can also ask for plastic gloves if you dont want to get your fingers dirty, but if you come here you can expect to be a little messy, and plus, there are paper towles. If you come here, you should be expecting to eat crawfish. They have many flavors, curry, garlic butter, cajun, etc. We ordered the Cajun and Garlic Butter. I didn't order, but I think you order them by the pound, since that is how my boyfriend brought it over. The crawfish was very flavorful, with every bite being a burst of flavor. The Cajun flavor had just the right amount of tanginess, while the garlic butter was a explosion of spiciness, savory pepper and garlicy taste. You can also order corn, which is served in the bag of crawfish with the flavorings, and they were delicious. I would order more than one per person. I had a lot of fun peeling and eating crawfish, but it is a lot of work for that little bit of meat. My boyfriend was not full after eating 2 pounds of crawfish, so if you eat a lot, thats something to keep in mind! We also ordered the gumbo, it was nothing too special. Had better gumbo elsewhere.

so much better than boiling crab! I love this place because 1) it's byob 2) only $5.99/lb 3) delicious food 4) friendly staff! While I've noticed they stopped adding corn for every 2lbs (was it just a temporary promotion they were having?) this place still rocks my socks.

Yes yes y'all! Best crawfish I've had so far in Houston. You can order it cajun style which is your basic boil with cajun spices, or order it Asian style with buttery garlic. I got 2 lbs of spicy garlic which came in a bag that you dump onto your paper covered table. That crawfish was AMAZING. So garlicky, so buttery, and the spices seriously burned my lips since I like to suck the head (get your mind out the gutter!). I ended up applying ranch from the basil wings--which are also top notch!--to cool the heat from my lips. No worries, it was worth it! I haven't tried any of their other entrees and sides, but if you have a craving for good crawfish (which I always do) then LA is your place.

Tried the five spice & basil wings, beignet fries, and both the Cajun spice and the garlic flavored crawfish. Loved it all! Crispy wings, flaky beignets that aren't too sweet, and really juicy crawfish.

Worth the wait for a parking space. It's a tough lot to maneuver in especially with my big truck. There is no ambience to speak of since it's in an old converted Fiesta. But the food certainly makes up for it. I would suggest the wings since I'm not a crawfish fan. We love the tamirin wings as well as the 5 spice basil. Definitely check this place out!

Great spot that rivals Boiling Crab as one of the best crawfish joints in Houston. Food: AWESOME! I ordered the crawfish and seasoned fries and they were both delicious. I love spicy crawfish, and I asked for the spiciest seasoning, and they did not disappoint. The flavors are a good blend of garlic, butter and Cajun red-peppery goodness. They warn you that there are no returns if you can't tolerate the heat; so be prepared to sweat a little, maybe tear up, and blow your nose a few times - spicy! I also appreciated they had two styles of crawfish preparation - you can either get it Asian style (wet/more buttery) or Cajun style (drier). I picked the saucy/wet style. Condiments/Booze: LOVED THE FREE CONDIMENTS. You get to grab as much lime, butter, salt/pepper blend, and Cajun seasoning you want. This allowed me to add a different kick to the basic Cajun blend, which I loved. It's also BYOB -- and who doesn't appreciate cheaper booze?! Location: It's inside Ranch 99 Mart (Asian Supermarket), which I wasn't initially expecting so we drove around a few times before finally calling the place and discovering its location. If you're going with a group of people that aren't fans of crawfish but enjoys Asian food, you can have them grab Pho, Korean or whatever their heart desires at the other food stalls/restaurants in the building and eat together. Set-up: It's basically one of many restaurants in the shopping mart - think a mall food court. You walk up, stand in line, order food and find a seat to lay down your plastic cloth and paper towels and wait for your name to be called to walk-up and grab your food. Pretty efficient set-up if you ask me. Service: Minimalist. The person behind the cash register as you order is helpful and everyone else does their job. But don't expect to be waited on; it's basically self-serve.

I have to say that, for a small counter service restaurant inside a shopping center, it doesn't get much better than this! I won't cover what most other reviews already cover, since I am in agreement with most of the other positive reviews. This is one of Houston's best, right up there with Crawfish & Noodles, (what is it about the Asian community that they do Cajun food better than the white folks?). The Butter & Garlic, are LOADED with butter and garlic and you can make them as spicy as you wish. The Cajun flavor is spot on, and as far as the sizes of the mudbugs, they were some small ones (this is the start of the season after all), but also some very generous sized ones. Be aware that corn and potatoes are charged desperately, and you need to specify which bag you want them in if you decide to get several different flavorings, (mine were placed in the Cajun flavoring batch, although I would have preferred them in the Butter Garlic batch had I been given a choice). Also - very cool that they allow BYOB, since 99 Ranch has cold Asian beer to purchase, and of course, nothing is better with spicy food than Singha from Thailand!

LOVE THIS PLACE. Enough said. Love, love their spices. They are not always consistent with their crawfish, but nevertheless, you can't beat $5.99 lb. Get their basil chicken wings, its the bomb also. Their pho is ok.... Not very filling though...
