Great burgers and solid beer choices in bottle.

Cute place with a kitschy country vibe and tons of outdoor seating. Burger and cheese fries were pretty good.

So I call to place an order the woman on the phone says they have a long line and can't take my order for pick up, really?? What's up with that?

Won't say too much about this place, but I'd say go here just for the fries and a beer. I prefer Cedar Creek, but this is a nice change of atmosphere. I am more into veggie meals so I can't comment much on the burgers outside of my friends enjoying theirs, but their fries are very good. I highly recommend the Stinky Fries: garlic and vinegar! Yum! Service is just okay. It seems people complain about wait times. I'm a very patient person, and didn't have a major problem waiting, but it probably took longer than it should have. The quality of the food was worth it, but I understand that it was a little strange that when the place is borderline deserted, a trio waited way too long for their meal. Quality or not, for that type of food, it should not have taken them the same amount of time to serve that family. I was almost done my meal by the time they received theirs (ordered right after me). Loved sitting outdoors. Pretty cool atmosphere. Not a huge fan of parking because it's a little tight and the roads aren't exactly paved well.

Cool selection of burgers and decent choices of beer. I wish they had AC inside though because it was incredibly hot and humid eating a hot meal outside in August! I bet this place is packed during the cooler weather months. I definitely want to bring my husband here to see all of their menu options. I ordered the burger with Cheetos on it and was not disappointed! The Cheetos were still crunchy even with a little bit of burger grease. Their fries- OMG! Their fries were top notch!

First the good: Burgers tasted good. Nice buns. Good toppings and selection. Good beverage selection. We ordered quadruple heart clogger, sticky burger, cheeseburger. All tasted good. We had hell fries, bacon cheese fries, and plain fries. Good but slightly soggy. Were it just the burger experience I might have returned, though the burger was undercooked (they don't let you choose how you want it cooked) and likely was the source of intestinal distress that came later. Now the bad and ugly: When you arrive there is a small opaque window where you are supposed to order. It is underneath an enormous and dirty sign with the menu on it. There are dozens of empty beer cans and bottles lined up under it. You stand there for a minute and up comes the tiny, dirty window. Behind it is a surly woman who does not greet you, does not smile, does not attempt to help you navigate the menu. Nope. Just a "why the h*ll are you bothering me" glare. After ordering food we move on to beverages. Do you have beer on tap? "No!" Well they advertised it as a beer garden and usually beer gardens mean beer on tap in large glasses, happy people enjoying the atmosphere, etc. Hmmm OK, what kinds of beer do you have? She glares and says, "they're all up there." Up where? Oh I guess she meant I needed to look through the dozens of old beer cans on the wall that must have been sitting there for years and were impossible to read. Helpful. The price was not cheap, to be sure. $8 for a burger and another $4 for fries. That for flimsy paper plates on dirty trays, sandpaper-like "napkins," useless plastic forks. A lowly bottle of Shiner Bock was $4! Don't even think about asking for a glass! The place was neither clean nor hygienic. The decrepit picnic tables outside looked like they had not been cleaned in years. The patio was filthy. Open trash containers were filthy on the outside and right next to the tables. No wonder flies were buzzing constantly. Everything looked run down and neglected. Too bad because they do put out good burgers. Someone needs to go in there and clean house, literally and figuratively. Because that part of the business is a mess.

Finally tried hubcap on Thursday of last week. It was good. I really expected more.. the price was good. Also in would suggest getting the single patty burger. It's huge! Really good price. The rest rooms were dirty. Fries were really good. Burger was 3 stars. Not the best not the worst. I prefer little bitty burger barn down the road. Not a bad choice if you are in the area and are craving a good solid burger.

I've only been once, and I do plan on going back to give them another try...but based on my experience here I would take Five Guys or Whataburger over Hubcap anyday. I'm not big on loading burgers sky high with toppings, so I ordered the a regular ole' cheeseburger. Order came out pretty quick, but given that it was a Tuesday at 6:00 and only one other table was there, hopefully that's a given lol. When I got my burger though, I was a little disappointed. The patty was overcooked and dry. The bun was crunchy and dry. The sweet potato fries were fabulously crunchy, but a little too salty for my taste...and I like salty, so that was surprising. Prices were reasonable...on par with Whataburger and Five Guys. I will go back and give them another shot because I live less than a minute away...and I hope that I can update this review to a higher rating.

I came here on a beautiful (80 degree) Saturday afternoon around 1. There was a line, like 3-4 groups in front of us, but there was parking and open tables outside The bads: - no umbrellas for the outdoor tables. the sun was blaring down on us, and by the time we got our food our drinks were not cold anymore :( - when we placed our order we were #61, and when we sat down they were calling #50...they didn't seem packed but it took a while to get our food, and we had drunk our drinks by the time the food came, and there was a line to order more The goods: - the pricing was great- 2 specialty fries, 1 cheeseburger, 2 specialty burgers, 2 lemonades, 1 bottle water, 1 dr. pepper= $39 and some change - the food was worth the wait - they have a sign on the window saying they do not put anything "on the side" and to please specify exactly what you want- I think this sign is great, so no one assumes anything about what they're ordering, especially since some of the burgers are definitely different (one burger comes with crunchy peanut butter, another comes with cheetos on it...!!!) Food: - bacon cheese fries- these tasted good, but the cheese looked like it was out of a can (bright yellow) and the bacon looked like bacon bits - Greek fries- AMAZING- comes with feta cheese and hubcap sauce, which was like a thousand island but a thousand times better- I'm craving these fries as I write about them - Black & Blue burger- I wish it had more of the blue cheese dressing, but it was still delicious. The girl at the window asked if I wanted mayo & mustard, which I'm thankful for since I don't like either of those - Texas BBQ burger- Highly recommend! Fresh ground beef patty topped with BBQ sausage, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, jalapenos and crispy fried onions.- we ordered without jalapenos. Definitely crave worthy! I thought the sausage on a burger would be too much, but it just all tasted so great together! - cheeseburger- I didn't try this one but the person who did ate it all with no complaints Bottom line: I will be returning to try other menu items. And to get the Greek fries again.

If you're looking for hearty burgers then Hubcap grill is your spot. The burgers are juicy and hand pressed which give them their unique imperfections. They are tender and greasy so definitely not for the health conscious. If you're counting calories then this is not the place to go. I can't eat here often or I feel guilty and have to hit the gym hard but I've had a few different burger and fry combos. I always leave FULL

This is my favorite burger place in Houston!!! Lots of specialty burger options, for those of you weirdos who like peanut butter and bacon or fried eggs or whatever, but they of course have the classics too. Their french fries are awesome! Different specialty fries--my favorites are the Stinky Fries (garlic and vinegar) or the Greek Fries (feta and a special sauce). And for such a little divey place, they have an EXCELLENT beer selection. Oh! And they produce their own root beer too! Only negative--my mom asked for her burger well done (she's crazy like that) and they didn't seem too keen on that request--burger came out pink and there was a bit of an eye roll there.

My husband and I finally got around to checking out the new Hubcap Grill for lunch today. I ordered a cheeseburger and my husband ordered the BLT Ranch Burger and we ordered an order of the Country Fries on the side. I love their selection of beers, but I'm a sucker for having a root beer with my burger, so I got an A&W and my husband went with a Freestyle Beer. They only do cash or debit card, which is fine w/ me b/c I always use my debit card where ever I go anyway. It was about a 30 minute wait- we tried sit outside in the front patio area but it was seriously "inferno hot" so we buckled and found a table inside in the A/C. I look forward to hanging in the back patio when its not August and its not 112 outside. When we got our food, just by looking at it, I knew it was going to be an awesome experience. The fries were perfectly golden- not yellow like you get at the fast food places- I hate that. They were smothered with a big glob of cream gravy and that was topped with bacon pieces. They were salted just right and OMG they were so freaking good. I had to be a wimp and cut my burger in half b/c it was so huge, but the first bite told me that this was my new favorite restaurant. The burger was really juicy and flavorful- the bun was seriously awesome and toasted perfectly. I hate that when you go somewhere and the bun falls apart due to all the juice- not these buns! They totally held up. The lettuce and tomato tasted fresh and the cheese was melted just right. I was halfway thru my burger before I glanced up and remembered to ask my husband how his was. I tried a bite of his and it was also incredible- a generous amount of bacon and a really great Ranch kick. I honestly don't know whose burger was better- it was a WINNING delimma. It was a ton of food and I couldn't finish my burger, but my stomach and tastebuds were happy campers when we left. I can't wait to come back and try some of the other burgers and specialty fries. This place honestly makes the best burgers I think I've ever had. That's a super bold statement to make but I think they can totally back it up.

I stumbled across this place online while searching for the best burgers in Houston. My boyfriend really wanted a burger and I'm not a fan of Five Guys. So we went to the heights location and off the bat I knew this was mans food because when we pulled up the seating was filled with guys and one girl. :-) I figured we'd scored for my boyfriend at least! It's mostly outdoor seating and its decorated like a garage apt/junkyard, it's cute. We. Went up to the window and I ordered a frito pie burger, really out of my comfort zone, and buffalo French fries. It was delicious! We both absolutely loved all of it. The unique choice of burgers and beers is awesome! They have some weird stuff I'm not sure I'll have the courage to try, like a peanut butter and banana I think burger. Anyways, it's a must if you're craving a heart attack burger!

    (5)
  • Kate H.

These burgers are delicious and so huge! The sticky burger with peanut butter is AMAZING! Everything I have had here I have liked. The only thing to note is that most of the seating is outside, so either go on a beautiful day or at an off time.

  • Tom L.

Only open 11 to 3. We've been twice - the food was reliably good both times but wait was long between 11:30 and 1:30. The best time to go is nearer open or closing time. Mostly outdoor seating - we sat inside second visit because of wind and rain threat. Outside's better. Burgers are big.

Living three blocks away, the boyfriend was super excited to hear this location was opening up. Being passionate about a good burger, I was skeptical, but hopeful. My opinion? You can get a better burger down the street at Cedar Creek. The buns are surprisingly hard and crispy - which, i don't even know how you would make a bun hard like that. The wait times can be ridiculous. It takes 8 minutes to cook a burger per restaurant recommendations. Not 45. You could chase a cow down, slaughter it, grind it up, and cook it in 45 minutes. Cheap beer = good. Juke box selections = excellent, though the boyfriend wishes it was free. While I've never met the owner, I follow HubCap on twitter and have not been impressed with his PR skills. Should you complain about something, expect to get called out on twitter. Not cool, hombre, not cool. Overall, I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

A stupid menu but the burgers are perfectly cooked and if you mix and match toppings from the specialty burgers you can taste heaven.

I hate this joint. I mean I really hate it. It's like greasy heaven on a bun a short walk from my house. The Philly Cheesesteak burger is one of the best burgers I have had in my life. Why Hubcap? Why? Why must you do this and torture me in this way. I really wish this place was farther away from me. It is not expensive either. Come stick some money in the jukebox, have a burger and a beer, and enjoy being in a non-douchy part of Houstoned.

So I recently turned 22 and I could not think of anything better to celebrate with than burgers and beer. Even though it was a Friday night my friends and I came anyways. I think we went around 8pm or 8:30pm. There wasn't really much of a wait. The burger and fries were just how I remembered it. Simply delicious. Good food really does take time, especially when everyone wants some. If you really aren't willing to wait for an amazing burger, there are fast food joints near by for you.

A dive of a grease pit that satisfies your need for saturated goodness!!! This place is literally a shack sandwiched in between high rise buildings. Several choices here as long as you like hamburgers! Not much parking downtown so come early!

We waited about 45 minutes for two cheeseburgers. The lady was rude when she took our order, which is fine. But they aren't creating cold fusion back there, there is no reason why the process of making two cheeseburgers would take 45 minutes. Cool place though, but a typical greasy burger joint. I'd go to downhouse if I want a unique burger, and it would quicker.

So excited to go to Hubcap since a) who doesn't love burgers and b) had heard much hoopla about this place. Maybe its just the heights location, but nothing really stood out as special to me. 1. We waited 50 minutes for 2 jalapeno cheeseburgers and fries. Granted, they have a sign at the order window that says the wait can be 30-45 minutes to ensure "quality".. 2. I'd even be okay with the long wait if the food was worth it. The burgers aren't bad, but they're not wait-50-minutes amazing. Some could argue that there are a dozen fancy shmancy burgers on their menu, but I shouldn't have to order an uber fancy burger to appreciate the place - the simplest burgers should be perfect. The bun was cold, the patty was overcooked, and they left pickles on our burgers which we specifically asked to have excluded (and saw them note it down too). 3. Customer service - while we were there a man was complaining about the price of a beer he'd purchased. They don't list beer prices (which is normal for a bunch of places) but the customer wasn't too pleased to learn that his bottle of Chimay had been $10 after they'd opened it and given it to him. He was complaining to a worker that he should've been informed of the price of the beer and asked to speak to the manager. The guy he was talking to told him he was the owner of all the hubcaps and that he (the customer) should've known the cost of Chimay if thats what he drinks. It was kind of rude and off putting. Sometimes the customer isn't right (I don't know who was right/wrong in this case) but I also think it wasn't the best idea to have an argument with a customer while there are a whole bunch of people in line. Anyway, I'd come back if I had an hour to kill for a burger, but usually thats not the case. Again, the food isn't bad, it just wasn't worth the wait for me.

What more can I say that hasn't been said before....the food here is just awesome! You can taste just how fresh everything is from the patties to the fries. Service was quick too (Sat right at noon). My go to burger has always been the muffaletta burger. I like that when some of the olive salad falls out onto the plate its like an extra snack after you finish your burger. And you will finish it I say! And I know it must suck to show up when they are out, but understanding that this place does it all fresh, I'd rather come back some other time than have them compromise the quality of the food to just get burgers out. Some days are just alot busier than some. Great job and keep it up! I'll be back for more.

Had dinner here last night: tried the Double Decker: 2 huge patties with Swiss and a slice of toast in between. So big, it barely fit in my mouth. Could only finish half. Taste-wise, it is lesser than the Philly cheesesteak burger. Sweet potatoes are the best fries I've tried so far though: extra crispy.

I will have to say the burger is ok, I'm not a fan of the buns, the meat was ok, French fries are pricey for the size. Not a fan of the service style. Seems they only work on one order at a time. Very slow for an average burger. There are much better burger in town.

Yum!!! Loved this place...went here around 6ish and no line at all...the burgers were huge!!! i got the philly burger....& chili cheese fries, my burger was a lil greasy but sooo good...my kids loved the atmosphere they were dancing with the jukebox outside, no complains we loved everything about this place!

the food was alright. my burger wasn't as amazing as i would hope but it was edible. the fries were pretty good. i did like the atmosphere though, very very casual. i liked the mexian sodas bottles too, more sugar ha. i don't know if i would go here again but i am glad i tried it.

Stopped by here once again. This time for a little adventure. I got the burger with crunchy peanut butter and bananas along with stinky fries. My mother who only likes her food plain Jane tried it and liked it as well. So definitely give this place a try, it's worth it.

I had the Philly Cheese Burger very good... meat on top of meat. No lettuce or tomatoes or pickles just meat :) Only reason HG don't get 5 stars from me is the beer is not a cold as it could be. Would be a good idea to have the good selling beers in a cooler on ice. Other than that excellent .

I fell in love with this place the first time! Their burgers are to die for! I got the Frito Pie Burger and it was just beyond amazing! Thier fries are OK and I like how the sodas are in the bottles like in the old days.

I thought I'd try the sticky mini sliders. Definitely something different. Probably won't order peanut butter with a burger again. I did love the fries (regular and sweet potato). My friend had a burger with pineapple and a fried egg and that was tasty.

Ok Burger. Nothing that special. Bun should be softer for a fresher feel. Other burger places are better in my opinion but this one does fine.

This ia a great buger!!!! It is a unique atmosphere, small, and they are all about the burger. No Fur on the menu, but I have never had a bad burger here. The price is comparable with what you would expect from downtown Houston. Hey, big city, city prices, but a great burger all the way around!!!!

Went for the first time on a Saturday night with a group of friends. It was about 7:30pm when we arrived. OMG, long line. Literally 25/30 people in line. At first I was hesitant to get out of the car cause I was starving and didn't want to wait but my friends assured me it was worth it. Surprisingly the wait wasn't that bad. About 20mins plus it helped having a beer and listening to the music in the jukebox. Oh, BTW, they have a great beer list. Jukebox was playing some great 80's classic (Duran Duran) mixed with 90's grunge. Out front was completely packed with nowhere to sit but they have a backyard seating area as well with plenty of benches. I noticed they have a small indoor dining too. Anyways to the food. Since it was my first time thought I'd get a regular standard cheese burger ( mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles) instead of the specialties they have. First bite and I was in burger heaven. Meat was so juicy and flavorful. The bun was toasted on both sides and held everything together without falling apart. I had the regular fries. So good. Now I know why this place was so busy. I'll def be back soon to get my burger fix.

It's pretty darn good. Simple ingredients but cooked with pride. Seating arrangements suck. As well as cash only. And parking. But good food here, people.

Located in Shady Acres (West Heights), the atmosphere of Hubcap Grill is very relaxed and fun. Decorated with different types of hubcaps, hence the name, there is a HUGE open-air outdoor eating area with lots of different colored picnic tables. There is an indoor eating area that has A/C, but it is quite small. The selection of different types of burgers was almost overwhelming ... but I settled on a custom-made cheese burger with Swiss cheese and jalapeños and a side a sweet potato fries ... my favorite! My burger was HUGE and was served on a fresh-made bun. My advice? Come with a big appetite or bring a friend. Flavor of burger patty was good and the ingredients were quite fresh. However, I do wish they had some more healthy options like whole wheat buns and/or romaine or mixed greens, rather than iceberg lettuce. But still, it was a good burger. And the sweet potato fries were excellent! While I didn't have time to enjoy an ice-cold beer, their bottled beer selection is enormous. I will definitely be back with friends, especially when the weather gets cooler. And that's one of the main reasons I wish Hubcap in the Heights was open on Sunday ... as Sunday is such a popular patio day in the neighborhood. But, regardless, I'm glad to have another good quality restaurant in The Heights.

I have never been able to get to the original location downtown, so I was really looking forward to trying out this one. Whoo hoo! Two weeks later I still have fond memories of that burger. I had the Black & Blue (bacon and blue cheese). The meat was grilled to perfection, the bun was very nice, and the beer selection is impressive. Very possibly the best hamburger in Houston. Certainly right up there with Beck's Prime, but a heck of a lot cheaper. Try it, you won't regret it.

First visit to the Hubcap Grill, and I am definitely a fan of their burgers, fries and their new place in the Heights. I had a muffaletta burger, and it was excellent. The patty was generous, tasted great and it was easy to chew, the bun was fresh, lightly toasted and the olive salad was very tasty. I also got an order of "stinky fries" and a St. Arnold Amber. Their beer selection is very impressive! We found a table in the back area, which is ample, clean and with plenty of space between tables. The one thing I did not enjoy at all was the waiting. 50 minutes for a burger is not acceptable anywhere. To be fair, I went on a Friday night, so there was a large crowd and I'm assuming the hamburgers take a while to cook, but waiting for almost an hour - even for one of the best burgers in Houston - is not cool. Our beverages were gone or lukewarm by the time we got our burgers. PROS: Excellent burgers, easily some of the best in Houston. Really good fries, an outstanding selection of beers, plenty of tables, cool jukebox, and ample parking space. CONS: Wait time, we finished our drinks (sodas and beers) before our burgers got to the table, and there's no option to get another drink unless you get in line again. I work nearby, so I will be returning here as often as possible, but I'll make sure to get my drinks at least 15 minutes after I order my burgers.

The BEST burgers in Houston. My husband and I were on our way to another favorite burger and beer joint but decided to give Hubcap a try as we were passing by. We were both so glad we did! The burgers are amazing. He had the Hangover Burger and I had the Guacamole and Swiss. Love that they serve the fries ON their specialty burgers. The employees are very friendly and their signage around the place is great. Also have a very good beer selection. Can't wait to go back!

Hubcap grill has the best burger I've had in Houston. (But I haven't had every burger YET). Hubcap serves a hand formed patty on your basic bun with a good assortment of toppings. . Keep in mind several things when going there. It's a bit of a dive. It's mostly outdoor with a small side area that is indoors. On a hot day, the tiny inside part will be full, so you have to sweat outside. . You can't get a cup of ice water, just a cup of room temp tap water. If you want it cold, you have to purchase a bottled water at a stiff price. Because I limit (drastically) the number of sodas I drink, I normally drink water with my lunch, so I find this irritating. . I also find the service to be fairly crappy. If you hate working there, get a job somewhere else. . That being said, I like their burger better than Christian's Tailgate (runner-up), Tiny Burger Barn, Five Guys, Smash Burger, Ricky's, etc etc. . BTW, a single patty burger has plenty of meat, no need for a second patty.

Some of the best burgers in the city, but go on a nice day. Most of the eating area is outdoors, the limited indoor area was very cold on the day that we went in the winter, it didn't seem to be air conditioned/heated.

Went there for lunch today...was expecting it to be busy as its the first lunch opening, we got there at 11:10am and it was empty. Food came out quickly...we sat inside (has 4x 4top and 4x 2top tables). Food is good as usual, but the hell fries is yummy!!!

I've always been interested in finding the next great burger, and I've found many amazing burgers before. Every time I found a new amazing burger place it would be slightly better than the last. When I found hubcap grill, it blew all the other burgers away! Their burgers are, by far, the best I've ever had! I absolutely love this place, so seeing these negative reviews really confuses me. Here's my take on some of the complaints I've read so far: Wait time: Friday and Saturday can get very busy. If you want to know how long the wait is, you can usually find out on twitter by looking for @Hubcap_grill. Customer service: I've never had a problem. They've been nice to me. Take into account that a lot of reviewers will only post a review if they are pissed at something. I know places like McDonalds say the customer is always right, but there are some very bad customers. If you find that you complain a lot in general, then don't go here, go to McDonalds. Price: You can get a burger for less than $5 and you can get a burger for closer to $10. You can get special fries for around $4, and beer prices vary (try asking them the price before buying it). There's something for every price range. Burger: I've been there multiple times and not once have I been disappointed. I don't understand how you can not like these burgers. I usually go when it's not busy, so maybe the quality is not as good when they have to make a ton in a row? Or maybe they had a bad day? Personally, I think it's because these reviewers rather get a burger from a drive through in 30 seconds or less. If you want the best burger in Houston, go to Hubcap when they aren't incredibly busy.

This was our first visit to Hubcap Grill on 19th street in the Heights. We have not been to the downtown location; I hope it is better than this one. I ordered the cheeseburger all the way, with jalapeños. I also had the "Texas Fries", which are chili cheese fries with peppers and a salsa. When the order finally arrived it was lukewarm, the bun was hard, and the whole thing was somewhat Dry. The fries were limp and soggy, and the chili taste like it came from a can. There are no fountain drinks; you have to shell out an extra two bucks for a bottle of soda or water. So no refills. What we got was not worth the high price we paid. Anyone who thinks this is the best burger they have ever had, obviously, has never been to Christian's or Lankford Grocery & Market. There the food is hot, the drinks are included in the price and the fries are great. Don't waste your time at this place. If you want a good burger, go to Christian's, Lankford's, Willie's or even Five Guys.

A group of 10 or so of us came to Hub Cap on a Friday night, around 7:45pm. There was a line but it was pretty short. You order and pick up your food outside. We sat outside too but I'm not sure if they have indoor seating available. Food: They have lots of options for burgers and fries! The bf and I ordered a quadruple heart clogger, an order of sliders, and the texas fries. wow it was good! the quad heart clogger has grilled hotdog, chili, and bacon ontop a fresh tasting beef patty. I liked the bun too, nicely toasted and substantial enough to actually hold your burger together. The sliders looked good, they come with cheese and grilled onions on top but I actually didn't have enough room in me to eat any after eating half the 4xheart clogger. The texas fries were good except I don't know how I feel about the fried onions on top. They look like the fried onions you buy in a can during Thanksgiving time. Washed it down with a Stewarts old fashioned orange and cream soda. They have all different kinds of soda in those cute old fashioned bottles, along with regular canned soda, and a large variety of beer (nothing on tap though) Service: well there really isn't any. It's basically a shack you get awesome burgers from. But I will have to say, don't come here if you're in a hurry. We waited at least 20 minutes for our order Atmosphere: really laid back. Picnic tables in the back with outdoor games like cornhole. Basically I felt like I was hanging out with my friends at a backyard cookout :) Bring some bug spray though, we got bitten!

We tried it. The burger is excellent. Service sucks. They treat you like someone doing a phone survey. We asked for water. They let us know very fast that they only had bottled water. If you asked for anything, you were greeted with "You want what?!" look. I'll stick with Smashburger or Christian's Tailgate.

My first time at Hubcap Grill...and it was darn good! I had the Philly Cheese Steak Burger (recommended by the lady that took my order) and an order of HAND CUT FRENCH FRIES. I wrote that in CAPS to draw your attention to the fact that these are real french fries. Hard to find, to be sure. Washed it down with a ice cold Bohemia. OK...the burger. Cooked perfectly, VERY juicy (YUM!!!) The juices from the beef patty coupled with the juices from the cheesesteak started to do a number on the bun towards the end. The bun is just strong enough to keep from exploding, great texture. The fries are great. They're hand cut, I think they're fried twice (the proper way to make french fries) and most importantly...they're not over-salted. Oh yes, the beer...yeah it was good. It's a great burger, I live 30 miles away, and I'll be back. Give it a try! Oh yeah...one more thing, while they don't accept credit cards, they do accept Debit cards, and of course...cash.

Just had my first hubcap experience. The burger was great! I had the 'Decker" and added a fried egg. Loved the bun. The bun and bread in the middle did a great job soaking up all the juices and flavor. I got the standard fries. Mine were ok; potato quality was there but would have liked them more done - a little soggy. A few things to help others. There is inside seating with A/C but not a ton. I sat inside since it is ridiculously hot out. Ton's of room in the back but no one was back there. They are open for lunch. They take cash and debit cards. I would have liked there to be a fountain drink machine with ice rather than just bottles. Oh well, went with a Shiner. Overall, quite good and I'll go back. Next time I want to try one of their more creative burgers.

One of the top 3 burgers I have ever had. Love that I am only a 3 minute drive from Hubcap Grill. Tons of options and usually pretty timely on getting your food out. Great job!!

Awful. Simply Awful. People were rude. No kid meal options. Charge 1.50 for bottle of water and refuse to serve tap water. My burger had a nice big hair in it. No thanks!

Long wait. Cash/debit only. I'm convinced people think the burgers here are delicious because they have to wait so long to get their food, anything would taste good at that point. If you are in the Heights and looking for a good burger, opt for one of the Creeks.

Overpriced beer joint with mediocre burgers. Very limited menu. All outdoor seating. You can do better.

I have been to this place once and only once. There are far better places to get a burger for the price...Beck's Prime, Luke's Ice House, Christians, the Creek restaurants, and Bernie's Burger Bus to name a few. While I did not find my burger particularly horrible, I did find the service atrocious. I also fine the historic childish nature of the proprietor ridiculous (if you are unaware, do a search about how he responds on Twitter to bad Yelp reviews). So, the reason I found my service so horrible is because when I went to order they were out of fries, some of the burger options, and a lot of the beers. On top of that it took 20+ minutes to order and over an hour to get my food. While there was a line when I walked up, it was not that long and there should have been no reason it took this much time to get a burger, or for them to have been out of fries. I am sorry, but you have been around long enough to know how much food you need to have on hand. The excuse about a larger freezer costing a lot of money is lame. Your business is selling food, so go get a business loan if you need the funding. Furthermore, getting a glass of water (it was a muggy evening) was far too complicated - that is something that should be readily available out of the tap. I will agree with other Yelp reviews that the outdoor seating is nice on a pretty day, but there again, other places have equally as nice outdoor seating on a nice day...Beck's Prime, Luke's Ice House, the Creek restaurants, etc.

Went here for lunch and it was so crowded and small! Me and my boyfriend got the hubcap decker and mushroom Swiss burger with cheesy fries. Cheesy fries-4/5 It was tasty but the cheese was a bit salty. Hubcap decker-3/5 It was big! The middle bread was unnecessary. And the meat was plain. I think the cheese made it flavorful but it wasn't super great. Swiss mushroom-3/5 This one was alright too. Nothing memorable! Parking was pretty bad and the line are crazy. It wasn't as great as people hyped it but the price was really cheap for the burgers. I wouldn't mind coming here again.

My husband and I came here on a Sunday afternoon and ordered a double cheeseburger and sweet potato fries to share. The wait to get our food was a solid 45 minutes, but we knew that going in as it was announced over the loudspeaker. Omg, the burger was so good. Like...perfect. Definitely no frills, just an amazing burger. I have craved one every day since. Fries were solid as well. The vibe is super laid-back, which I loved. They have indoor seating, but I didn't see it. It was really sunny when we were there and all the shaded areas were taken. They could definitely use some umbrellas. It's all counter service and you have to go up every time you want another drink. And the line was loooong. If they changed a few things about this place it would be a more enjoyable experience and I'd be more inclined to bring a group of friends here (umbrellas and easier to get drinks). However, I will totally come back for the burger!

Hmmm, I'm thinking that I'm just a plain jane hamburger person. I ordered the beach bum and hell fries. Beach bum had a hamburger patty, ham slice, swiss cheese, and pineapple. Hell fries had siracha mayo, cayenne and chili powder, and jalapeños. The fries were okay. Nothing to spectacular. Burger was good but I think it would have been better with chicken. My fiancee loves the chunky monkey burger and loves coming here. I think I rather eat a simple cheeseburger, toasted buns, cheddar cheese, and ketchup. lol. Each their own but definitely worth trying out.

Awesome, creative menu and they serve craft brewskies!! Had the Sticky Monkey Burger, Greek Fries, Racer 5 IPA, Hangover Burger and Hubcap Lemonade for the wife and it was amazing, all for $27. 1st time and it's already one of my fav's. BTW, the burgers are big and as a tip, the fries should suit 2-3 people if you don't mind splitting.

I've had the Sticky Monkey Burger and the Philly Cheese Steak Burger. I am a fan of both. They both filled my burger craving that I've been having. There are both very heavy and filling burgers. Don't go here if you are looking for something healthy. The Sticky Monkey Burger had sticky crunchy peanut butter with grilled bananas. Surprisingly, it wasn't very sweet. It was still very savory from the beef patty and salty from the crispy bacon which makes an extremely good combination with multiple textures and flavors - sweet and salty... crunchy and creamy and yet still savory and meaty. The Philly Cheese Steak Burger was the best out of the two. It was definitely fulfill your meat and burger craving. It definitely reminded me of the real cheesesteak that I had up in Philly. So, meaty with the cheese and sauce just melted in. Both very memorable burgers. I would go again. Also, the line wasn't long for me. Perhaps it was because I came in a rainy day. One of the best burgers, maybe even the best.... I've ever had.

Great place to catch a burger, fries, and a homemade Root Beer! Very laid back casual. Outside patio area. Try the sweet potato fries and a specialty burger...they have several to choose from.

This is one of my favorite little hole-in-the-wall restaurants in downtown Houston. I usually just get something standard (double bacon cheese, avocado, etc), but they have a lot of crazy things for the more adventurous: frito pie burgers, peanut butter burgers, and more. I haven't tried them because I think they sound gross, and my brother has assured me that they are. I think it's more of a novelty than anything. But the standard burgers and fries are fantastic. I usually come here when I have a friend from overseas visiting and want to show them what a real non-fast food hamburger tastes like. It's just a couple of blocks away from the JPMorgan Chase building where you can get a great view of downtown, too. There's only paid street parking, so be aware of that. Also, they only take cash (ATM inside) and their hours are very limited, so make sure you verify they're open before going. If you're hungry downtown and happen to have cash around the time that they're open, stop by for a burger and grab a seat on the "patio" for a tasty, juicy burger. Or get a peanut butter burger just to say you've tried it. Ew.

  • Sarah S.

Pulled up and the building looks cool. It is mostly outside seating. They don't have wait staff, so you have to wait in line to order. They have a large beer selection but no draft beer. You can't open a tab and have to wait in line for each beer. The burgers are big and yummy. When I was here, there was no music and the line was super long. We ate our burgers, drank one beer and left. P.s. Get the stinky fries.

Some of the best burgers in Houston. First time I Got the Philly cheesesteak burger (without the patty - rec from the staff). Flavor/seasoning was awesome. Super messy. nice and greasy. Greek Fries and Mufalletta Burger (tried them too) were amazing too. Hell Fries were also real good, got some heat to them! got the texas fries and the bleu cheese burger the 2nd visit. They weren't as good as all the dishes I got the first time (greek fries etc). great beer selection too, picnic tables are classic.

Was in the mood for a burger & figured I'd give this place a shot. I liked the set up; hubcaps, old plates & soda signs. Seems like a cool spot to come chill w/ friends, have a burger & a cold one on a lazy Saturday Got a laugh out of the sign on the order window that basically said : This is not a fast food joint. We make your food to order which takes a lil more time. If you don't like that...take ya azz somewhere else! LOL I settled on the Black & Blue burger and the bacon cheese fries. Service was quick & friendly. It didn't take too long for the food to come out. And when it did, my eyes popped. The portions are HUGE! I only ate half the burger & some of my fries...saved the rest for dinner & ended up giving to my sis bc I was still full from lunch. The burger patty itself was pretty thick. Had that nice lil crust/crucnh on the outside & juicy inside. All the veggies were fresh & crisp. The bun nicely warm and toasted. The bacon was a good thick cut & nice & crispy. Flavor wise, the burger patty just didn't overwhelm me with anything. I could tell the meat was fresh, but the seasoning was a little lacking for me. But I like a burger w/ a bit of black pepper, so could be personal preference. The mound of fries were totally on point!! Like I couldn've had the fries for a meal alone. Plenty of bacon & cheese, but not so much the fries were soggy. Fries were hot & had a good season/salt flavor to them. All in all I liked it. Will come back to try other burgers for the hell of it. The Greek burger looked pretty tempting. .

  • Linda T.

I have to say the burgers and the fries were amazing the only issue is that you have to wait over an hour for it. Although it could have been the particular night we were there but it seems for two burgers and two orders of fries there really is no reason to have to wait over an hour for it. For the food it is worth it but don't go hungry because it will be a long while before you get your food. And also there was no soap in the mens bathroom and took forever for someone to even give any soup when asked. Service is super slow but it looked like there were only three of them in there for the whole place. Otherwise all else was good.

How this place was ranked under 4 stars by anyone is beyond me! Hubcap Grill is a burger specialty joint that it pretty incredible. Definitely one of the better burgers in Houston and the best in the heights that I've had anyway. I had the Chunky monkey burger. I'm a sucker for peanut butter on a burger... Don't knock it until you try it. My fiance had the beach bum burger which was also very tasty. Like I said before you really can't complain with the service because everything is made to order. So you know its fresh and always hot off the grill. I do enjoy the set-up. It's old fashion style by walking up to the window and ordering what you want. Overall a good experience!

First visit, first Hubcap burger: the Muffaletta. Yum! Not your regular burger, no way! And the bun? Nice! Nice change from the regular. Outdoor setting with picnic tables. Nice to get a little sun during your lunch break! Bring a hat & sunglasses and enjoy a "picnic" lunch. Hell fries? Try em....they're not hot. Actually ours could have had more chili powder & cayenne :)

I was down the street at Heights Cigar Lounge when one of the patrons mentioned it was "National Cheese Burger Day". What a perfect night to try Hubcap I thought. What a chill environment with lots of outdoor seating, great beer selection and a big menu of burgers and fries. As a newbie, I decided to go basic with a cheeseburger, stinky fries and a root beer. After finishing my order, the guy in the walk up window told me it will be about 40 minutes. Really? It didn't look that busy but ok, it would give me time to catch up on the latest Houston Press. To their word, it was 38 minutes but no problem. Got my food and realized they didn't charge me for the Rootbeer. Ok, water is fine. I was there for the food so no big whoop. Everything looked great but imagine my disappointment when the first bite of fries (sea salt, garlic and vinegar) was stone cold. How could this be? Well I suspect that instead of making some fresh, they used what they had since they were so close to closing. Normally I would have asked for them to drop some in the fryer but it was straight up closing time. The burger on the other hand, had a coolish bun but the patty was fresh, warm, well seasoned and juicy. The burger as a whole was good but not great. It included chopped lettuce (not my fav), pickles and tomato, mayo on one bun, mustard on the other. I have to believe this place can do better and I will certainly give them another try but as a first timer, my maiden voyage crashed.

The burger are decent and the wait time wasn't too long. The patties were slightly burnt but overall they weren't bad. Drinks : 2 cans of beer cost me around $10. I don't mind paying $10-15 for a drink at a bar/club but $5/can for a mom-pop burger joint ? :/

A few weeks ago, my friends and I drove up to the Heights for lunch at Hubcap Grill. NOTE: Every burger is made to order, so this is NOT a place to visit if you are in a hurry. We caught the tail-end of the lunch rush hour, and waited about 20-30 minutes for our food. That being said, Hubcap offers some interesting (and heavy) burgers, and you will definitely not walk away hungry. Feeling adventurous, I ordered the Sticky Monkey burger (beef patty with crunchy peanut butter, bacon, American cheese and grilled bananas). It was good, but also left my throat feeling quite dry, so be prepared. My friends and I also split two orders of fries: Stinky Fries & Hell Fries. The Stinky Fries were only mildly garlicky, and for the most part just tasted like normal fries (meh). The Hell Fries were significantly tastier, so I would recommend those (they aren't actually that spicy though ): ). Everyone was happy with their food, and I enjoyed the freshness of the burger patty. One of my friends got the Philly burger, which he absolutely loved. This is a solid burger joint, so I will definitely be back.

Hubcap has my husband's favorite burgers in Houston! And I love the Greek Fries, that special sauce is delicious. It's very low-key, a great place for a nice day outside. The order line can get long at times, but we have never had to wait too long for our food. Great neighborhood place!

Extremely long wait for a burger that was nothing out of the ordinary. They were only at about a quarter-capacity and we still waited over an hour for our two burgers. We ordered and were informed that they were out of fries. Overheard the owner tell a customer he wasn't going to put any ingredients on the side because it was things like that that were causing his kitchen to get backed up. When the food finally came out, the buns were cold and pretty dry. The burger overall was alright. I would not suggest this place to any friends, the atmosphere wasn't even all that great.

Went to check out what all the fuss was about. The menu of burgers was very interesting. Lots of different options to choose from. I really couldn't decide on what to get and just picked on at random, the Frito Pie Burger. When the burger was ready and I went to pick it up from the window, I was blown away by how huge the burger was. I will admit that eating this particular burger was very messy (imagine the cheese just oozing out of the burger). Although it was messy, it was very very good. The grilled onions and grilled jalapenos was just amazing with the frito pie.

The sticky burger (with peanut butter) was truly awesome. The bacon cheese fries were too. Someone with me got the hangover burger with ham, fries, bacon, cheese, and country gravy, and two people raved over it. Great buns, great meat, and the hubcap sauce (a mayo mix) was really tasty. Place is a charming genuine dive with indoor and outdoor seating options. (I ate at the heights location). Good lemonade made with cane sugar in a glass bottle from the Dublin bottling company, and other unique bottled soda options. No ice, but no problem. A bit of a wait but well worth it. Will be back.

What can I say, but Hubcap grill is an epic part of the Heights. My wife and our 1 year old came to order dinner and shared a BLT with an order of pickles and mushrooms along with an order of country fries and an order of sweet potato fries (for our baby girl to try out) and it was a perfect amount for the both of us. If you like beer, they have a butt load to choose from. Great burger(and cooked very well), great bread, great fresh cut fries. A must visit

I'm can't remember how I heard of this place but what I do remember is a Cheetos burger. Say what? Yes. I give them an A for effort for combining unique ingredients and giving them a funny name. The Cheetos burger is basically Cheetos and a cheese sauce in between buns and a patty. Something about when a Cheeto gets wet it tastes sort of...stale. Not sure. The actual burger patty was ok, nothing special to me. Two thumbs up for sweet potato fries. Can't really mess them up. It's not exactly in my neighborhood, so for the trek and the taste I may not return. Glad I tried this place, though!

rating has gone down a bit since the last time i went. it really is a great burger joint, if you want fancy mega high end food, go to masraffs or something. Really great hamburgers, fresh cooked, great toppings, great fun location, we've been on week days for lunch and weekends and the line has always been reasonable and the food has been excellent every time. A great find that yelp lead me too, hopefully you enjoy it as much as we did. Other great burger joints in town include Stanton's City Bites and Bernies' Burger Bus (walk in location in Bellaire)

Some amazing burgers right here! I had the Sticky Burger which had peanut butter (a must try if you've never had it) and it was great! We got the Hell fries and Stinky fries. Those were okay, but the burgers definitely were the best part. I'll be back next time I find myself in Houston!

As everyone else and numerous articles have said, the burgers and fries here are great, but they are not justified by the absurd wait time. There are plenty of other equally awesome burgers in Houston that don't require an hour wait. When we got there the place was a little less than half full and it wasn't until after the guy had taken our order and our money that he told us the wait for food would be 50 minutes! You tell that to customers BEFORE you take their cash. The wait ended up stretching over an hour. The kitchen clearly cannot handle the size of the restaurant. They need to expand the kitchen to actually handle their capacity because this place has a huge seating area! It's great for a nice day outside with a group of friends, just be prepared to go hungry for quite a while. Overall: food and atmosphere top notch, but totally ruined by the wait.

I consider this burger joint offers very delicious and outstanding burger. So to be Texan style, first of all universe, the food quantity need to be exaggeratedly huge. My hubcup decker burger come out bigger than my face, score. Then it needs to be fresh, no extra elegant decoration needed. As soon as I bite my first Texas fries, I was amazed by its texture, because I can tell fries here are actually cut from real potato, it's not cheap potato powder modeled press into potato stick that most burger franchise are using. Then, food gotta be gravy, full of layers, that's just how food cook in southern/western way is. My burger gives me great taste of fresh meat, vegetables. Cheese and sauce mixed so well, there's one French toast in-between two beef party, so I'm eating a fatty burger and grill cheese in the same time, life can't be better. Fries has layer of melt cheese, chillies, hot sauce, pickled jalapeño. it served very hot which I like it a lot. I can't stop eating it although my fingers are burning. Their settings are normal close to ghetto, but that fits restaurant's good environment: down to earth, chill, relax, great for close friends to hang out. And, with such cheap price, I would come here everyday if I can intake unlimited sodium.

Ordered the sticky monkey and it was delicious! Definitely consider splitting if you don't like feeling completely stuffed after your meal. The reason for the 3 stars is the service; it took around 20 minutes to make one burger which I find a little absurd. Definitely worth the visit to check off your Houston bucket list!!

My husband and I finally was able to come here. We have heard so much about them and haven't gotten a chance until today. Thank god we got here earlier than the dinner crowd and didn't have to wait too long. It was a great, beefy, juicy buger. Can't wait to come back

Awesome selection of specialty burgers to choose from. My favorite is the Beach Bum. Yummy burger, delicious buns, with a slice of grilled ham, pineapple, and swiss cheese. Cool selection of specialty fries as well. I've been to a lot of supposed 'best burger' joints around Houston and I always compare them to Hubcap. I leave here feeling satisfied every time. Great local spot. I tell everyone I know to visit Hubcap.

1st thing- great food!! The burgers have the perfect bread/topping/ meat ratio. The specialties (try the frito pie burger) are awesome, and ask for the off menu burger of the day. ( the waffle burger and the hatch green chile are my faves when i can catch them). Fries are good, but go with one of the special selections. (Hell fries, anyone?) I'd normally wrap this up here, but the owner (Ricky Craig) is a class act. I'm sure anyone who keeps up with the Houston Food scene (or reviews on here for that matter) have seen some horror stories in dealing with Hubcap. I'm here to tell you: he's a great guy. He took time to chat it up with me when the lunch rush was beginning to roll in, and even found a Saint Arnold's root beer for me when he thought he was out. I truly felt welcome, which is more than i can say for a few other places in the area. Great service, great food, get there NOW!

This is what a neighborhood burger joint should be like. The menu is awesome...the juke box has a variety of jams...and the beer...Best Craft Selection at a burger place!! If you are looking for a great burger, it is a must that you stop in!! Don't forget to add a fried egg on top of you burger!!

This is a true burger place!! Made to order burgers so don't expect your meal(s) like fast food joints. The place has a back yard BBQ feel to it. Picnic tables in front patio area. They also have indoor dining. Just make sure to bring a light sweater or some bug spray. Food- I had a typical burger bacon cheese burger but they have tons of selections to choose from. They have specialty burgers. But the cool thing is that they only sell burger and no other main food. They have a variety of French frie experiments. Burger was juicy and well tasty. The pattie is not overly thick and un bearable to eat. Overall this place is a good place to chill enjoy the outdoors and have a homemade burger!!

Nothing to do with how good this place is... Do NOT sit next to the indoor tables door. The intercom is above it, and it has scared the shit outta me a good four times. Way loud when he calls your order.

We went there for the first time. I got the Philly cheese steak burger and added mushrooms and jalapeños. It was very good but the burger was GINORMOUS! I should have read the description better.. This burger came with a big juicy beef patty ( it kinda lacked seasoning)as well as a good amount of thin sliced steak (seasoned well) Golly it was too much burger for me.. my hubby didn't hear me when I said we should share fries so he got us each bacon cheese fries. They tasted fresh cut like the ones at five guys but a little over cooked for my liking.. the bacon crumbles were very meaty! The bun was like a roll. It was moist and very tasty!! They even have glass coke bottles hecho en Mexico yum!! They had a pretty good variety of bottled drinks like lemonade. The quiet a few beers and a small selection of Saint Arnolds.. they had no blue moon but they had one made in Plano TX called Hefeweizen I think.. it wad pretty close to blue moon. The hubby got the hangover burger he said it was ok but he didn't really care for the gravy (made the bun soggy) and all the fries inside the burger. The ham and bacon he said we're tasty. It was ALL outdoor seating on picnic tables. Cash or debit ONLY.

Update: They took our credit card with no problems. Read about this place on CultureMap this morning and decided to try it out for lunch. Don't go to the Heights much, as we live on the West side of town so this was an adventure. We arrived around 11:30 and there weren't many people there, yet. However, by 12 the line was about 20 people deep... When we left at around 12:30, they were announcing a 20 minute wait. Had the mushroom Swiss burger, black and bleu burger, stinky fries and regular fries with an Abita Amber each. Must say, the burgers were fresh and juicy but not anything to rave about. Burger Guys down the street from where we live is better. Kinda wish we would have gone to Gatlin's BBQ which is down the road from here... Gatlin's is still on my list of places to try.

5 in a group Everyone got a different burger and different fry selection. Everyone enjoyed their burger and I liked the different frys as well. Patio will be nice when it cools down a bit. Space was limited inside, and the furniture was a little worn out. could have been a little cooler inside also. It is 90*+ outside, and AC was struggling to keep small dining room comfortable. I would recommend this place. I had the peanut butter, banana, and bacon burger. Very interesting combo there.

Mmm-mmmm. That is a tasty burger. A couple of things to know about this place; cash or debit only ($5 minimal on debit charges), and limited indoor seating. The prices & the time it takes to get your food do not rival the price & speed of fast food, but this is definitely NOT fast food.

The seating inside is weird, but don't let that give you fear. Grab a beer, there's burgers near! The walls are barren, so there's some awkward starin'. There's lots of space outside, and I really love the fries. The burgers are dope, but messy so you'll need soap. Don't get coke. They have root beer.

The patio seating and atmosphere is great but I'm not a very big fan of their burgers. They're so so. Come out greasy then dry up before you can finish your burger. Their garlic n vinegar fries sound weird but are to die for.

This place keeps getting written up as one of the best burgers in Houston, but let's be honest... it's an OKAY burger with a lot of fun and interesting toppings (Cheetos, peanut butter, blue cheese, etc). It's totally okay, but definitely not one of the best in Houston if we're talking about the meat - they don't even ask how you want the burger cooked. The burger itself is like anything you'd get at any diner. The ambiance and beer choice is great though!

Note: no credit cards, only debit/cash. I'm quite convinced that you can order anything on the menu and leave satisfied, both by taste and portion size. Compared to Lankford's burgers, I'd choose Hubcap because the patties are better. The Sticky Monkey actually works, though it wouldn't be my first choice. You can't consistently order good-weird foods. This is essentially a life rule: good-weird stuff should only be consumed in moderation, whether the subject is food, movies, friends, religious rituals, or fluoride flavors. Mushroom Swiss you can pass on, but the Philly you should try. Only thing I'd possibly complain about are the buns, which are quite fluffy and dry, but the richness of the toppings cancels it out. My only real complaint, then, is driving all the way out here for a burger, but the burger cancels it out. My only real, REAL complaint is that they don't deliver.

Very interesting atmosphere. Majority of seating is outdoor; I didn't even peek in for the inside seating. The restaurant's decor appears to be made up of mostly hubcaps and other automobile parts which is kind of neat. They have the menu posted on a huge board above the order counter. Cool burger and fries variety. It's not the best burger I've had but still good. However, I imagine I can only go here once in a blue moon because of how unhealthy it probably is.

  • Adilehg T.

I had the basic cheeseburger and my wife had the Greek burger. The basic cheeseburger is very basic, good but not sublime. The meat was a little dry. Now the Greek burger was tasty but that's because of the toppings, again the patty itself was just ok. I like the unique selection of burgers but it really wasn't worth a 30 minute wait in their stuffy little restaurant. I'm not sure if they have ac but it didn't feel like it was turned on.

So soon after my initial review on this place, Jason D. Messaged me and informed me that Hubcap grill should allow me to have sauces on the side instead of on my fries for an extra charge, and he apologized. After that review I didn't have any issues getting items on the side upon my request. Until TODAY! Samantha, the supposed manager, stated "it's policy" and denied me any sauce on the side. I cancelled my entire order. I think their unwillingness to serve a sauce on the side is pure laziness and rather cheap. I took my business somewhere else tonight. I don't like soggy fries and Hubcap's competitors apparently understand that.

Heard about this joint and wanted to try it out. I ordered the heart clogger and stinky fries. Burgers were big and juicy but wasn't all that. My husband ordered the hubcap decker and said a "whataburger was better."

  • Chris C.

If you like burgers with flies, Hubcap's your man. It's all outdoor seating, as the trashcans are behind the ordering counter. So if you're lucky enough, you get to sit real close to the open trashcan and wait for a fly to drop in your soup. This is gross. Disgusting. Isn't this a health code violation? But yeah onto the tasteless cheeseburger that wasn't juicy. And those garlic malt vinegar fries that disappointed me on all levels. At least I got to read Hemingway in peace since I wasn't really eating my food.

    (1)
  • Mito C.

I had a regular cheeseburger with stinky fries. Overrall, very good burger. Love the bun. Good burger meat, a little on the thick side. I like the tanginess of the vinegar on the fries with added minced garlic. Next time I'll ask for more stick on the fries. This is a lot of burger and fries. Can't believe I had left overs .

There are different types of burger enthusiasts, right? Here are the different types of burger fervor that I recognize: -- Meat, is it flavorful and cooked well? -- Size and price, cheaper and ginormous is better -- Gourmand, "Chipotle aioli on top, and I'd like to add rosemary parmesan frites with that..." -- Yumble, it should be a humble-picnic style and yummy -- BUNt, "If I press it down, it should fluff back up." This place will appeal to the Yumbles -- as it is both meat and size done for a relatively cheap price. I would characterize it as somewhere between a dive and some kind of picnic locale. There is indoor seating, but even in the hotter weather people are outside at the picnic tables looking at what other than rusted down hubcaps. Bring your "Off;" I doused myself down as ants started crawling up my legs and bit me. As they stopped biting into me, I went after the burger. (It did not have Michelle repellent.) The cheeseburger was large and good. The meat tasted fresh and flavorful. I thought it was good, but I'm one of those gourmand burger types. So, while it hit the spot, it's not the first burger joint in town that I'd run to.

They have great around the way burgers! The place wasn't pretentious and the atmosphere is family friendly. The prices were reasonable and they have the old school soda bottles. I went during a slower time, so there was no wait. Did was fresh and good!!

    (5)
  • Emily W.

Reasonable price. Burgers are seasoned well, quite salty, but meat is dry. Also feel like they could use higher quality lettuce, etc. The atmosphere really took away from my meal (and I even got my food to go!). I understand that this is a no-frills place, but it needs to be better maintained. Signs outside saying "Don't feed ants", a warm water cooler with styrofoam cups, and a paper towel dispenser that is kept together with tape instead of being repaired are not acceptable.

Basically, this is the best burger joint I have eaten at in the Houston area. Every burger is MADE on the spot. All the ancillary ingredients are made on the spot. If you only have 30 minutes for lunch and gotta grub on the quick, this probably isn't the place for you because each burger takes time to prep and cook. If you do not like eating outside...do not come here and don't complain. If you want to be pampered do not come here and don't complain. If you can sit down and wait for a damn-good-10-napkin-burger...then this is your place. Sit down...have a few beers...and enjoy the day. Rain, shine, or blindingly hot, I love this place.

TWow. This place is an awesome set-up. It's almost like I'm in Iconic Texas (This IS iconic Texas!) Definitely found a new place to bring out of town visitors whom I want to show "A Taste of Texas." It felt great to go and eat here on a sultry, summer Houston night. Oh yeah, the food----For the first time here, I resorted to just "Spin the Wheel and Order" method, as there are too many burger combos not to come back and experience them all. The arrow landed on the Philly Steak Burger, which was very tasty. My group of three also initially ordered a side of plain fries, and an order of Texas Fries. The plain fries were the right crispy level, salted perfectly. The Texas Fries---we thought were fantastic with the chile, strips of jalapenos, and cheesy goodness. We were wrong. It was the SECOND order of Texas Fries that were the ulimate fantastish--the fries in the second order were a little crispier for what ever reason, and if that level could (and could be, for all I know) the standard condition of the fries that are delivered---WOW.

Green chilies on the cheeseburger were great! The stinky fries were good, but not fantabulous like advertised. The service was good and the food was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, though I would eat here again, if I was in the neighborhood.

  • Tom S.

Great burgers and fries done right. Extensive selection of beers. Great for lunch when business is light. Be warned of long waits on weekends. Worth the wait in any case! In summer it's just too hot for the patio dining, and ants can be intrusive. So get there this spring and enjoy the weather and a hubcap decker.

  • Abby H.

The burgers are odd, delicious, and very very big. I love burgers, so this was a must on my list of burger places to try in the Houston area. While the Hubcap grille certainly did not disappoint, the reason for the 3 stars is that the wait time was upwards of 30 minutes for our burger. This was a challenge, sice I made sure to arrive hungry knowing that finishing the loaded burger would be difficult. Other than that though, it was great all around--definitely worth the visit and a great place to get your red-meat in at a relatively cheap price!

I went here a few months ago with the hubby, and I was let down by our experience - I guess it was because my expectations were set high by all of the hype. The menu was definitely very interesting, but the options were so weird it left me (a picky eater, I admit) with few options. I opted to go with the Greek burger, and my hubby the burger with the Cheetos on it; we also got a side order of the cheese fries. My Greek burger was decent, but it wasn't anything spectacular, and my hubby didn't like his burger at all. The cheese on his burger and on our fries was the cheese from the can. For the price you pay, we expected better cheese than that. Honestly, the best part of the experience were all the cats running around the tables and hanging out. Since my hubby only ate 3 bites of his, we pulled the burger patty out and fed it to the cats - they appreciated it very much. In a city like Houston, where there are TONS of burger joints, I don' t understand how people think this place is one of the best - to each their own I guess. Needless to say, the hubby and I will not be back.

Hubcap found creative new ways to annoy me this week. I've always been ambivalent but I've usually given this place the benefit of the doubt. No more. First, they seem to have new hand-written signs popping up on the counter telling people all of the things they won't do. Now, I could understand if those things were hand-stands while yodeling, or providing gluten-free vegan burgers, but no. The first one I noticed was a rather snarky note about how they do NOT put ANYTHING on the side. And they don't just tell you that, they finish it with "we just don't do that". OK, I get it, but do you have to be insulting about it? And for the price of my burger, is it really that hard to put the pickles on the side? At either end of the spectrum, both MacDonald's and any of the gourmet places in Houston will gladly do that, with a smile and nod. The second note states "We will NOT cut your hamburger in half. We provide little plastic knives for that." Really? Your kitchen can't spend 30 seconds with a real knife cutting a burger in half? Have you noticed some of them are 10 inches high? You try that with a plastic knife... On top of that, despite having seen dogs here before, and Houston outdoor establishments getting over dogs (finally), they literally chased my friend and his dog off the property. OK, how about a sign then? It's not like our doggie friends are wandering around in your kitchen. It's a giant outdoor junk yard of picnic tables, with garbage cans filled with piled trash. Is it really hospital-sterile? Then we had the lights turned off on us at the incredibly late hour of 9pm. Really? There were still 5 of us present, spending cash repeatedly on over-priced bottled beer, and you turn the lights out on us? I thought only the Creeks could be this smug about their business model, turns out Hubcap also thinks it can abuse its customers and have us coming back. Well, I for one am going to climb up into the tree branches and hurl my Sticky Monkey burger at all the hairless apes. And not return.

Awesome place....a little staple in the Heights. I got the mini sliders and they were to die for. Only thing about this place is that they do not take debit, they only take credit and card. WOMP WOMP. GOOD FOOD, GREAT SELECTION OF DRINKS!! A++

Hubcap grill has very good burgers. It's a bit of a dive, but that's ok. What's not so good is the service. I got the hell fries, really my wife wanted them, but we wanted the sauce on the side. They refused and said it wasn't possible. I almost walked out. Glad I didn't for the food. But I don't think getting sauce in a little cup needed to be such a traumatic order.

Here's a nice place to sit down with some friends, grab a burger and a beer, and enjoy the summer while it's still here. There's a nice beer selection, prices are fair, and they have outrageous burgers. I stayed pretty conservative and ordered the guac burger, which was decent but not amazing. I tried some of my friend's cheddar bacon fries, and they were okay (pretty stingy with the cheese!) Maybe I have to get one of the crazy burgers with peanut butter and a beef patty to really appreciate this place?? Who knows. There is indoor seating for those afraid of the Texas heat, but it's actually cooler if you sit outside underneath the shade.

Been here before and it has never disappointed. Had the green chili hatch burger and some sweet potato fries. Also a couple of beers to help wash it down. All was tasty! The only thing I have to say about this place is that due to its popularity and the nice weather today, don't go expecting to eat quickly. Usually have to wait about 30-45 minutes, but definitely worth it. Stop by and try if you're in the neighborhood!

Had been meaning to try this joint for several months, but I always seemed to think of it on Sundays - a day they're closed. I love this type of place, which is becoming increasingly common, a bit of grunge/character, outdoor tables, good burgers and cold beer. Luckily I arrived just before noon and only waited about 5 minutes, but as others have stated, the line gets really long after 12. I ordered the basic cheeseburger and it was satisfying and fresh tasting, although nothing particularly noteworthy or to rave about. The skin-on fries were well prepared, a bit of crisp on the outside and lots of fluff and solid potato on the inside. The beer selection was very impressive, with perhaps 60-70 selections on offer, all appearing on a wooden shelf above the order window. On the downside, no credit cards are accepted, when asked if they could put the burger toppings on the side they said 'no, we don't ever put anything on the side', they wouldn't or couldn't leave onions off the Philly Cheesesteak burger, and quite oddly there is a shaker of Hubcap Burger Seasoning at the counter, but it's for sale only - they have none available to use or try! All in all it's a decent spot for a casual burger n beer, but doesn't stand out against similar places in any meaningful way.

My previous visit was to the downtown location, and I was a bit indifferent to the food then. This location, however, improved my opinion of their burgers. At the other location I tried a simple burger. This time, I split the philly cheesesteak burger and the sticky monkey burger. First up, the philly cheesesteak...steak on a burger? Yes, it sounds excessive, but it was delicious! If there hadn't been a burger patty, I would've enjoyed it as a simple philly cheesesteak. The sticky monkey was just as good...grilled bananas, bacon, crunchy peanut butter, cheese...it was delicious. I'm not sure which I preferred between the two, so it's nice to have been able to try both. We also had the stinky fries, which were okay...malt vinegar, real chopped garlic. But there was more vinegar taste than garlic, which disappointed my taste buds, plus they were a tad cold. I wanted to try the Greek or hell fries, but was overruled. Next time. :) On a Thursday evening, they weren't busy at all. Plenty of seating (indoor and out), short wait for food, and of course a decent selection of beers.

I normally don't leave negative reviews but I find Hubcap Grill's burgers to be subpar at best. The patties are huge and greasy, they overpower the presentation. There is also a high content of fat in the patty, seems almost too much. The bun is the other downfall of the sandwich, it's is too crunchy and doesn't lend to a great experience. I also ordered hell fries and they were terrible, no real succinct flavor and no real "fire". Otherwise the atmosphere is awesome and they have lots of drinks to choose from.

I've heard a lot of hype, so I was expecting something amazing. My burger, while delicious, fell apart and I had to get a fork to eat it. When I get a burger I want to manhandle it! It might have been because I got the Frito-Pie Burger (or whatever it's called). The fry selection looked amazing but I didn't order fries because I'm getting the Vegas pool-party bod out and fries don't lead down that path! I will go back because some of the items on the menu look tasty.

Fantastic burger place! They have some really unique options and bring your appetite. They are HUGE! There's plenty of outdoor seating but indoor seating is limited to a small side room. Definitely best to try when the weather is nice and you want to be outdoors.

Oh my Jesus that's a good burger...With so many combinations, how do you choose wich is right for you? After about 15 minutes of contemplating the menu, I decided to go with the Sticky Monkey Burger. This thing rocks! It has chunky peanut butter, grilled bananas and bacon..what?! Yes, everything is better with bacon. Don't walk..run here and get yourself a monkey. I also wanted to try one of their signature fries..I tried the hell fries..they were just good...come here for the burger, not the fries. There is plenty of outdoor seating and I imagine gets quite busy on the warmer weekends. Oh, and they have a Jukebox. 4 songs for a buck!

I really love Hubcap's menu. They have an amazing variety of burgers! Some so original it will make you think twice. I wouldn't say that this place is the BEST burger in Houston. We certainly have our pick of burger joints in this city. I have only eaten here on one occasion because well hello, it is usually hotter than Hades here in Houston and nobody wants to sit outside on their lunch break inhaling a hot burger in the heat. We rarely have nice enough days where it is ok to sit outside and eat. Three of us ordered burgers to go. I had the Greek. It was light and refreshing and made me not feel so guilty about eating a huge hamburger. On the down side it was a bit dry. I would order this again but ask for it to be cooked medium well. Another person in my party ordered the Sticky Monkey. I am all for unique items together such as the bacon and peanut butter. But the banana took it to a level of disgustingness that I would never like to visit again. The third person had the Frito pie burger. Which is great in theory, but not something you want to go. It was soggy and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. I always judge a burger place by their fries. These fries were nothing special. I'd really love to give Hubcap another try. I guess I will have to do it in the next few weeks. Since we all know summer comes early in Houston!

Love this place! Yes it's not a fancy restaurant, you order at the counter and have a seat at one of the many picnic tables, and wait for your number to be called. I ordered the black and bleu burger, with a side of bacon cheese fries. Everything is cooked to order so it took about 15-20 mins for the food to be ready. The burger was gigantic and they're very generous with their portions. I must say this was one of the best burgers I've every had, it was juicy and fresh. I have no complaints at all, except that I couldn't finish it all, but that's a personal problem. :) Will be back many times.

Finally made it to this the Hubcap Grill in the Heights. Once again I have visited a non-descript place that serves amazing food. I went there planning to try the frito burger and ended up changing my mind three times by the time I ordered. I had the Sticky Monkey Burger. First instead of traditional ketchup and mustard, the buns are slathered with crunchy peanut butter. The burger was topped with grilled bananas which were delicious with a capital D. Of course it had thick crunchy bacon too. My order was complete with bacon cheese fries and all washed down with hubcap lemonade. I will be back to try the frito burger, the cheeto burger and more until I have tried them all including the quadruple heart clogger. This is straight up burger and fries place that will keep you coming back again and again. On a side note, the Heights has some of the best eating establishments known to Houston and mankind. I would rather go anywhere in the Heights then down in the Galleria area.

Burgers were good, but I did have to find salt and pepper in the outside containers. The patties seem to be home made but under seasoned.

I wouldn't say this place has the best burgers. It was okay, sure, but I've definitely had better. I got the mushroom swiss burger with stinky fries. The fries were pretty good; it was the first time I've had malt vinegar on my fries. I think the garlic that was put on wasn't distributed properly, so it was like it was garlic for garlic's sake. Maybe they should fry the garlic and then put it on, because then it would have a much more developed flavor. You have to be careful when you're planning on paying with credit cards because they do have a minimum ($5, I think, and if you're just planning on getting a burger that's not going to cut it). Also, there's only outside seating, so be careful on when/what time you go. Imagine sitting outside in the middle of a hot summer day... Sounds miserable, right? So go in the evenings, or before the summer.

I tried the sticky monkey as recommened by fellow yelpers and I wasn't fully satisified. I generally enjoy the sweet and savory combo but the peanut butter and bananas in my burger just didn't do it for me. My friend had the greek burger and he was impressed by it. What won me over the most were the buffalo fries! Ugh I am salivating at the thought of those babies. The service is quick and friendly and pretty much walk up order and come get your own food type of place. I didn't care so much for the gravel parking lot and the outdoor seating but they do have indoor seating. I will definitely come back for my next burger craving!

Another great choice for a lunch spot! After reading some of the reviews I wasn't sure if I was going to like the burgers or the fries. I decided to try it out anyway and I was impressed. I ordered a cheeseburger with fried egg, pickles, and mustard. It was delicious and HUGE. The sweet potato fries would have been great if they weren't a little cold but that didn't stop me from eating them. I enjoyed the fact that the place had picnic tables outside. Made me think of being back home in Mississippi sitting outside on a summer day. I also tried one of the beers that they had and it was yummy. It had a bit of a berry taste to it. It wasn't really packed so I didn't have a long wait. I will definitely be returning.

I had a Texas BBQ burger and fries. The burger tasted great, but kept falling apart. The jalapeños add a little kick but are not overwhelming. The double-fried fries were outstanding (except for the odd piece of fried gristle).

We rolled in around dusk on a Saturday evening and the weather was absolutely beautiful. We got in line and waited patiently to place our orders. Patrons that had already ordered were going back and forth, weaving through the line, because some amenities had been placed in the center near the start of the line. The debit card machine was not responding and there was no nearby ATM, but luckily, I had a stash of cash handy. The staff wasn't terribly apologetic about the breakdown in the system, nor were they particularly vocal that the debit card connection was down. We didn't know until we got up to the window that they didn't have a working machine. Now, on to the food! They definitely have interesting things to put on top of their burgers. I opted for the Sticky Burger. The oozy, melted peanut butter made a great contrast to the crispy bacon. My biggest qualm was that the flavor of the burger was only subpar. It tasted very flat. It felt like the burger meat was underseasoned and didn't pair well with the plainness of the peanut butter. I definitely enjoyed the burger; however, it wasn't outstanding or even particularly memorable. The buffalo fries that we ordered with it were addictive and delicious! They were crispy and the perfect vehicle for buffalo sauce and the chunks of blue cheese. Overall, I had a decent experience and would return, but I would not go out of my way to get to this estabilishment.

Psst...come here. Let me tell you about a little secret. The happenin' place in the Greater Heights isn't on White Oak, it's up in the corner near Ella and 19th. Indeed, this little corner of "The Greater Heights" is seeing a resurgence of great dining/drinking options. The result is a plethora of small local joints with an emphasis on hand crafted (+ slow) cheap, high quality stuff with a no floor space but an outdoor hangout. Think: foodie-grungy-gourmet joints. And the Gem du Jour is the recent addition of The Hubcap Grill. Stunning burger perfection in all forms. From the classic cheeseburger with classic toppings to throw-the-kitchen-sink on it burgers, this is the place. The classic is truly that, and in perfect proportion of bun, meat (thin, smashed, never-frozen), and toppings. Bacon? Thick and crispy. Fresh, crispy tomato, onion--not the cheap mealy stuff. It's an explosion of flavor. And lots of topping options for the non-purist. "Artisanal"? Hardly...in NOLA we'd call this "Gutter"-style. Take a burger, throw peanut butter and bacon on it. OMG...the sacrilege!!! But no, Hubcap makes it sinfully good. The fries are crisp, tasty, perfectly salted. Add to that a nice patio, cold beers in the classic ice house fashion and you've got pure win! Now, what to order? It's all good.

So me & the hubby got inspired to go here via NewsFix so we jumped in the corolla and drove 20 minutes to this nostalgic location. We didn't have trouble finding it nor did we have trouble ordering our food. The last who took our order was patient & friendly & we waited about 15 minutes for our food (not bad considering they have a sign posted saying the food can take up to 45 minutes to an hr ). We did get bit by hungry & maniac. Mosquitos.

There are burgers and then there are "BURGERS!!!" Unfortunately I found Hubcap Grill to be one of those places that serves...burgers. Lots of interesting toppings and I do appreciate having a hand formed patty versus the frozen patty that comes out of a box, but the burger patty lacked seasoning and tasted...well OK but nothing special. The fries also failed to impress...I tried the fries with country gravy...soggy fries, tasteless gravy. Personally I don't mind the somewhat indifferent staff and dive atmosphere..I just want a great BURGER...

The burgers are huge and freshly made. Black and blue burger is my favorite, as bacon and blue cheese on a burger is the next best thing to Mom's cooking. They have sweet potato fries, always a great side if you have room. There's also a great beer selection. So, if you have a huge appetite or someone to split it with, you'll never find a better place.

I have been here several times. I have never really had a bad burger, but I have never been that impressed either. It is all open and outdoor seating, think Moon Tower (man I wish that place would open again soon). Except for a small indoor addition on the side, with poor ventilation and pretty hot to sit in. The outside is dirty, with trash cans piled high. Bugs and flies everywhere. There is a jukebox that is usually playing pretty loud. There is a nice selection of beers, but overall I am not a fan of dinning here. When I come I get the food to go. On to the food. Lots of big greasy burgers. Tons of toppings and variations. They put peanut butter on a lot of different burgers if you are into that thing. I usually stick with the Black and Blue, or closer to a "regular" burger. I have tried it, but not a fan of peanut butter on burgers. Anyway, average at best. The meat is greasy, kind of dry. The fries are soggy. I have had better, but also much worse. Not a place to go out of you way for. I actually liked their food truck better when they would stop at Liberty Station. Don't know if they still do that, but keep a look out.

Love their bacon cheeseburger. So tasty, cooked to perfection, crisp bacon. Also love their chili cheese fries. I know they are known for having very creative burgers but these two basics keep me coming back for more. Wash it down with a cold root beer!! Delicious!

LOVE! This was one if the first places I took my Yankee hubby when we visited Houston before we moved back. It was his first time to Texas and he fell in love with Hubcap just as much I have. I very much missed it while living in Connecticut. After moving back to Houston we decided to have our rehearsal dinner here and share it with friends, family and out of town guests. It was a hit.

+ Lots on the menu + Interesting / Tasty creations - Not a goo spot to be when it's hot outside - Small room doesn't help beat the heat. - Can't really hear the mic announcements from inside the room + Good portions on both burgers and fries + Something f

well im on the fence. Burger was over cooked and dry. I couldn't avoid the overly seasoned taste.... even with loads of ketchup . If anything ill be coming back for the atmosphere .

I'm NOT exaggerating. This was the best burger I've ever had. Ever. The fries are also good.

Let me start off by saying this... It wasn't until we had this last terrible experience was I compelled to actually spend the time writing a review. I recently went to HCG for a burger and it was 25 minutes before they closed. The female cashier made that VERY clear when we tried to order. Before saying "HELLO" or "HOW CAN I HELP YOU" she just blurts out with, "YOU KNOW WE CLOSE IN 25 MINUTES, RIGHT?" Obviously, that was not a good start... We use to frequent HCG and for a good reason. It was quick, cheap and tasted good! That all has quickly gone down hill. There was zero eye contact... She never once asked how were doing. The cashier needs an attitude adjustment. We powered through and ordered. We waited almost the entire 25 minutes to get our meal. (The place was practically empty by the way) When our meal came out they asked if we wanted it to-go since they were closing.... SERIOUSLY?? We could tell we were not welcome, so we did box up our meals and left. We ate our burgers at home... They were obviously cold by then. There wasn't much taste. The buns were soaked with grease. It was not a good night. There are too many other better burger place in Houston to go back to HCG. Hopefully your experience is better than ours.

Visiting from Minnesota, my girlfriend came across the the Hubcap Grill while doing a Google search (something generic like, "GOOD FOOD HOUSTON TX"). Searching from a long list of options on the Food Networks' website, we settled on the Hubcap and thought it would be a nice chance to explore the city. We ended up driving past it a few times, our eyes peeled for something we thought to be more - ahem - conventional. Eventually, we found it. The Hubcap is a small little black building with hubcaps sporadically plastered on its outside walls (clever), wedged in what could be an alley on one of the major city blocks. Parking, we walked in - squeezed in? - and took a few minutes to order. Wanting novelty, she got the Greek Burger and I a burger that was covered in bacon and peanut butter ... I'm not even going to continue with this review because the English language is limited and I'm not a poet. Go check it out.

Very rude. We wanted the Hangover Burger but didn't want the gravy. We asked for no gravy (it was poured over everything, not part of the actual cooking process) and they said no and that they make no changes to anything. Seriously??? You can't just omit pouring the gravy on it? Decided fine, just put the dang gravy on it. The gravy was GROSSSSSSSSSSSS. Very unaccommodating and ridiculous.

I love, love, love the burgers! The atmosphere is super chill and interesting as well. They do need to step it up on the fries! For having such good burgers the fries really lack quality! Luckily the burgers are so huge you don't need fries! I would recommend checking this place out! Always call before going if you don't live near, their hours are not always their hours if you know what I mean!

Cool and unique place. Damn good burgers. My complaints are what a few of the others have said....customer service and ticket times could be much, much better. Not to mention, good luck if there's any weather out. Other than that, I loved the food.

I stopped by for lunch this week with a couple of co-workers. We decided it was time to check out the place since it was finally bareable to be outside for more than 5 mins without coming back to the office with pit stains! I ordered the cheesy Cheeto burger and the sweet potato fries. I almost dropped my plate because it was covered in grease. Ok, big deal...just going to bust my butt to burn more calories at the gym. The burger was huge - and pretty greasy. Besides the cheetos and cheese, the burger itself didn't have a lot of flavor. The sweet potato fries were yummy and I tried one of my coworkers Greek fries - delish!! Even though my burger wasn't all that, I will prob come back and try something else. But, next time, I will share a burger with a friend because it was just too much for lunch!

Not impressed at all. I had high hopes but the burger fell way short of expectations. Just a damn burger was all it was. No excitement what so ever. Sadly, the Greek fries were better than the burger. Order taker was a prick too. Bypass this place.

What I love about this place is that he comes up with great burgers that many will dismiss on first glance, but once you try them, you get it. IMO, it's really about the specialty burgers here. If you want a plain burger or cheeseburger, you may be better off someplace else, especially if you prefer grilled vs. fried patties. But try a Sticky Monkey, Muffaletta Burger, or one of the many others and you'll be happy. Oh, and as far as those patties, they are fresh and hand-pressed, so that's good, too.

I've always heard about how good this place was, and I finally got to experience it today. Had the Greek Burger and Greek Fries. Had the burger cooked to medium perfection, and the olives and onions in the Greek burger gave it a unique flavor from your standard fare. Didn't need or desire ketchup for it, and I am a condiment lover. The Greek Fries were awe-inspiring. Best fries I've ever had in my life. My wife, who ordered the bacon cheddar fries, ended up ignoring them and stealing from my plate. Imagine crisp fries topped with feta cheese and a slightly spicy sauce. My mouth is watering just typing this. Burger was around $7 and the fries were $4. Both were well worth it. About the only negative is that there didn't seem to be much of a beer selection there, but they had Saint Arnold so I was happy.

This place is nuts and I mean it in a good way. They have so many different types of burgers! I've only had the sliders or the mushroom Swiss burger (I'm too chicken to try the different toppings). The burgers are juicy and I love their chili cheese fries. I've only gone on the weekends and depending on when you get there, the time/wait can be long.

I had been trolling Yelp to find some new places to eat that weren't fast food and low and behold, I find Hubcap Grill and all it's amazing reviews. Not more than five minutes from my house, I decided to gather up some friends and try it out. The first thing I noticed was it isn't a traditional restaurant by any means. You order your food from a window outside and then set up camp at one of their many picnic tables (though there is indoor seating as well). They do not have fountain drinks, but instead have sodas in a bottle plus a large array of beer. I ordered the Frito Pie Burger solely because of the reviews it had gotten plus a side order of country fries. My friends ordered the Beach Bum Burger, Greek Burger, and Greek fries. I was able to taste test a little bit of everything and I enjoyed the Beach Bum and Greek fries best. The hubcap sauce is amazing! I don't know what it is, but I like it! Overall, I will definitely be making this my go-to spot for burgers. Update: before moving to GA temporarlily, this was my last restaurant meal! I of course, got the Beach Bum and Greek fries :) oh, and a coke in the bottle.

Cognitive dissonance: Rumors that the owner is a great guy and the burgers are great but as a paying customer for lunch, you are assaulted with signs stating everything they WILL.NOT. DO. damn you! Cognitive dissonance: No ice for your drink, No sides, No cutting your burger, no a/c in the school cafeteria 'inside' room...and NO...friendliness from the counterhelp...but according to reviewers.."It's the BEST burgers.(O.k. fess up-have you been smokin' weed? Are you friends of the counterhelp?) I dunno, to me, it's like seeing a person that is not the most attractive human being but then you get to know the person and you see how beautiful their character and their heart is...and then all of the sudden they become 'better looking'. They become 'beautiful' on the outside because the inside is so wonderful. Hub Cap Grill is just the opposite. Hub Cap Grill's food and dining area just isn't amazing enough to overcome the stinkin' attitude of the help. Dear Owner of Hub Cap Grill: From my understanding, the dining experience is as much about the atmosphere-decor & attitude of the waitstaff-counterhelp as it is the food. If you were one of three places to go to in a small town let's say, I guess your rude attitude could be forced upon people since ppl need to get out of their own kitchen from time to time---but would they come there to eat again ? You...are in a huge city, with many places and lots of competition as you may be aware of. There's plenty of other places to patronize that even if they charge a little more, are much more welcoming and comfortable (they've got a/c)and have good food. Customers return to restaurants where there has been a connection with the staff, mostly. People remember how you made them feel. And some of us, will remember.

After YEARS of reading and hearing about this place I finally got to stop by. One word. Yum. For me (and my boyfriend) it lived up to the hype. We arrived on a Tuesday around 2 pm and had the place to ourselves. Nice. My burger: Black and Blue- heavenly. 5/5 Boyfriend: Texas BBQ- "righteous" (his word) 5/5 Sweet potato fries: delicioso! Will return again and again until pants start to get tight....

My friend sent me a photo of what to me at first was kinda disgusting but oddly rousing. i found my self being repulsed but also salivating at the mouth i really wanted to ram that hot meat in my open maw. the description of the food item was : Peanut Butter Banana Cheese Burger I think I feel in love. i wanted to plan a secret affair with this burger and plan sweet sweet passionate love to it. my next available moment I had I drove out to the heights (which is pretty far for me) and devoured it whole. Extreme weirdness became me. There was so much going on. the ooey-gooey-ness of the warm peanut butter with the savory compliment of the meat and cheese, AND THEN like a light breeze i was hit with the heavenly aromas of banana right in my fucking face. WINNER. The sandwich in mention is the "Sticky Monkey Burger". It fucked my day up. i couldn't eat anything else because it didn't compare to anything else. Since then I've had the Frito pie burger: only for those of us that really love Frito Pie. Muffaletta Burger: very good spin on the New Orleans classic. probably will go back soon. not sure when. I wish I could become a large fat fuck and eat there everyday wasting my money on tasty burgers and cold beer (WHICH THEY HAVE!). Hubcap has an awesome beer selection. ONLY COMPLAINT! Every time I tell people about this place I miss pronounce it as Hup Crap. Seriously, its a weird tongue twister.

Had lunch today at the downtown location. I have been in Houston since 2002 and this was the FIRST killer cheeseburger I have had since being in Houston! Juicy and delicious!!! Perfect toasted bun! The place is definitely a hole in the wall dive, but well worth it. $10 for a burger, fresh cut fries and a Dr. Pepper. Worth it!!! Best burger in town!

One of my office's favorite lunch places, their burgers and fries are excellent. Be aware, however, if you have the normal 12-1 lunch hour, you will not get your food in time to eat it and get back to the office. Their beer and soda selection is large and varied, but it would be nice to be able to get a fountain drink for the price, rather than just one little bottle... especially if you get one of their spicier burgers! Despite these minor setbacks, I'm a fan, and will be going back again and again!

I think the burgers are very good. Nice bun, good meat and many selections to choose from. The fries are usually good but we tried the chili and queso variety. Sounds good but the queso is gross. It is that yellow-orange stuff you get out of a big can. Cheese? I doubt it. Why not make a great queso and make those fries spectacular or even just edible.

This place is within walking distance from my new house so I've been indulging a little bit on those tasty burgers. My favorite is the mushroom swiss burger with sweet potato fries. I actually stay away from the specialty burgers just because I just don't see value in all the extra toppings. I did try and enjoy the Greek burger. I've never had an issue with the patty being overcooked and the seasoning is always right on. Yes, the service can be spotty. The last couple of times I was there it was actually empty (weekends will be packed), and the person taking orders was nowhere to be found. They should put at least a bell or something there to alert them of our presence.

Cheeseburger: 3/5 Hubcap Decker: 5/5 - Besides being a double patty burger, it seems like a typical burger because all of the toppings are typical. I think the patties & special mayo sauce are what sets it apart from others. Philly Cheese Steak Burger: 5/5 - It's a Philly cheese steak & burger in one. Viva Patty Melt: 3/5 - The beef patty is topped w/ grilled onions & Swiss cheese on toasted rye bread. Beach Bum Burger: 4/5 - The burger is patty topped w/ grilled pineapple, grilled ham, & Swiss cheese. Buffalo Fries: 3/5 - It's topped w/ wing sauce & blue cheese dressing. Hell Fries: 2/5 - This is topped w/ cayenne & chili powder w/ siracha mayo sauce & jalapenos. Texas Fries: 5/5 - It's topped w/ chili, cheese, jalapenos, onions, & Krystal hot sauce Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 2/5

Great burgers. Great service. Lots of options on their burgers. So why did I not give them five stars? Yhey do not have a kid friendly menu and the closest we got for my three year old was the sliders. In retrospect I probably could have just let her eat from my food and we still would have taken home food. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Hamburger and my wife had the Hawaiian Burger (pineapples, ham, and swiss cheese) and we had the greek fries. The philly was good, my wife LOVED the hawaiian and the Greek fries was the hit of the whole table. My dad had the greek burger with bacon cheese fries and he loved the burger but thought the fries were a bit bland. My aunt had the Sticky Monkey which had bananas and peanut butter. She raved about it as well. Everyone took food home but if we hadn't all been trying different things on the menu we easily could have shared meal and saved money. I think my wife, me and my daughter added up to around 35 dollars. I would say it is worth the money, and we will add it to our list of places to go to on our Friday dinners. Really the only cons I have are no kids menu and they dont currently take credit cards, only cash or debit. Other than that this is a pretty cool hole-in-the-wall place. Give it a shot.

Disclaimer: DO NOT come here if you are on a diet, or don't plan on eating at minimum 700+ calories. Now, if you are looking for a cool Austinesque burger joint where you can stroll up in flip flops and a T shirt, this is your joint. It is very unassuming, casual, and has some of the best burgers in town. You may wait a bit, but like the sign says, it aint a fast food place peeps! The place reminds me of a junkyard with mismatched tables in your country bumpkins neighbor's yard. They have a TON of different beer available from St. Arnolds to Lone Star. The burgers are reasonable for $5+ and the toppings unique. I opted for a plain ol jalapeno cheeseburger. (the only miss was NOT fresh jalapenos) The meat has been hammered down, nice and thin, with a fresh crispy bun, as well as fresh veggies, and some serious sweet potato fries. A cold Lawnmower finished it off. I would def. come here in the evening to grab a beer or burger!

OVERPRICED HOSPITAL FOOD. THAT'S IT... Went on a Wednesday night it was totally empty. Staff was rude. They have note cards with various rules: NOTHING ON THE SIDE, NO BURGERS TO BE CUT IN HALF, bunch of other nonsensical rules. Despite being the only ones in the whole place they refused to put the jalapenos on the side. Ridiculous! By the way, the food sucks. I'VE HAD BETTER MEALS ON AN AIRPLANE, NOT KIDDING!! If you like overpriced hospital food in the ghetto served by arrogant, tattooed hipster scum THIS is the place!!

I never thought I'd be waking up in the middle of the night wanting a peanut butter, bacon cheeseburger. Oh Hubcap Grill... you've made my explicit food-dreams come true! I had the dear pleasure of enjoying the Sticky burger: Crunchy PB, bacon, and american cheese on a nom-erific meat slab. Ain't a d#mn thing wrong with melted, crunchy peanut butter dripping into gooey american cheese WITH some bacon love thrown in the mix. Now, if you have a hard time getting over the idea of peanut butter and cheese, just think of those little peanut butter cheese crackers we used to eat as kids. And if you can't get over it, then good, more of that sticky icky goodness for me! Seems mere novice to the Sticky Monkey burger, which I will have to try next time. I also had the Cheesy Cheeto-burger. It was okay... I think it would be better with fire cheetos but I'll put that in the suggestion box next time ;) The Stinky Fries were so good, dare I say, addicting? The menu says malt vinegar and garlic salt, but ours also came with real garlic. SCORE! Why only 4 stars? I really enjoyed Hubcap Grill, but it still can't stand up to Burger Guys. Note: HEIGHTS HUBCAP SERVES BEER!!! Not the downtown one... I found out the hard way. Don't ask.

I don't like writing three star reviews, but this place has me torn. What they do well: Low key environment in an interesting (not dangerous) part of town. Good hamburger and fries What they don't do well: There's no TV and you have to pay to have music playing (jukebox). Hello!?! you/'re not the only game in town. The indoor area is sparse and there's no T.V. If I'm eating hamburgers and drinking beer during college football season, there should be a T.V. Recommendation: Seriously, get some TVs and Music. You might stop making so many weird hamburgers and introduce a chicken sandwich. The beer selection is really big, but without the entertainment, you're only appealing to beer drinkers.

Hubcap grill hast the best burgers in Houston hands down. There is no comparison. The restaurant is outdoor seating only and is very utilitarian- it exists to deliver you the best burgers in Houston. Do you want to sit in a restaurant and pay $20 to have some clown deliver a mediocre burger to your table? Then go somewhere else. If you don't mind having your name called and walking a few feet to pick up the best burger in town- then you'll be right at home at hubcap grill. Once again this review is based solely on the amazingness of the food. They're not trying to sell decor/ambiance so i'm not rating them on it. What they're selling are the best GD burgers in town, thats what I'm rating them on, and thats why they're getting five stars.

On a sunny day, this is one of the BEST places in town to enjoy a cold beer and an absolutely LEGIT Texas burger. It just doesn't get better! I was shocked to see that there are reviews of this place below 4 stars...this is a no-frills, badass burger shack. This isn't the place for $20 Kobe burger stacked 2 feet high with duck foie gras and gold leaf, so don't expect a steak house with fancy décor and cloth napkin service. That's just silly! Wait times can vary because the food is popular...duh! Unless you are willing to call ahead or get to-go food, then place your and grab a beer while you wait. Relax! This isn't a fussy place, and that's the beauty of it.

Ventured back to Hubcap Grill last week. Tried out the Hangover Burger with a fried egg - and it was fantastic. As you can guess, this is not the low cal option, but you're at a burger place so I'm assuming you aren't too worried about that. The bun kinda felt apart at the end (annoying) but the main attraction (burger, plus toppings) were fantastic.

Great burgers and fries love the patio atmosphere although some seat put you right where the line is so you face is in people's but not good when eating maybe should rearrange the seating but other than that great food sux that it's all sold separately and not ad combos.....

Everyone was raving about how great the burgers are here. I decided to give it a try. It's your average hole in the wall burger joint. I tried one of the specialty burgers, the Cheetos burger. Thought it would be tasty. I love burgers with cheese, bacon and top it off with some Cheetos. Couldn't go wrong. I was wrong lol. The patty didn't have much flavor and the Cheetos were mush within 2 minutes. I should of known better. Maybe I need to try a different burger. I don't know if it worth trying one more time. All and all there are much better burger joints in this city.

Amazing restaurant. Huge variety of extremely tasty and unhealthy foods. Do NOT go here if you are on a diet. I have had many different burgers that can be customized any way you want. They have a strict "no whinging" policy. Everything is just top notch. Has a jukebox for music selection. Awesome outdoor decor. Has fans for hot days and even an inside room but you almost don't want to go inside!

We finally decided to check this place out. It's a winner! Bare bones operation with a walk up order window and mostly outdoor seating. But the burger choices are wild! The burgers are obviously hand made, and they are HUGE! I got the Muffaletta burger, which was dee-lish, but I could only eat half of it. The olive salad is house made, and there was a very generous amount of it on my burger. The buns are nice, sturdy rolls rather than the squishy yucky standard white bread at most places. My husband got the blue cheese burger with a fried egg on it, and he thought it was pretty wowzers. We split an order of the bacon cheese fries, but could barely put a dent in them. We were so stuffed! Reasonable prices - our 2 burgers, fries, and 2 soft drinks cost just a little over $20. Not a place I want to eat every day, but when I have my next burger attack, this is where I will be heading. Word to the wise - come HUNGRY!

It's delicious! Forever on the quest for the perfect burger, my brother recommended Hubcap with the "best burger in Houston" statement in tow. I've been twice now, and both times have been delicious. The patties are totally juicy and fab. I've tried the Triple Heartclogger plus egg (I am a brave chubster) and the Beach Bum (I think? It's the pineapple and ham). While both were delicious, I have to say the former beat out the latter, but that could be because of the fried egg difference. Super friendly people in the kitchen on both visits. The fries are pretty good too. I've sampled both the greek fries and the stinky fries. While the stinky fries tasted good, the vinegar made the fries a bit too soggy for my liking. The greek fries, however, are marvelous. Love the outdoor, laid back atmosphere. I'd like to go here on a chillier night with all the fire bowls around! Be sure to bring cash or debit; credit isn't accepted.

What the hell is wrong with the Houston burger scene? First, a little about my credentials: I've been on a mission to have all 50 of the burgers in the Texas Monthly Top 50 Burgers issue. When work takes me anywhere near one of the restaurants, I make it a point to travel, even quite far, to have that burger. So far I've had 28 of the 50. Hubcap Grill is not on the list, nor should it be. I've been to both Hubcap Grills. My visit to the downtown location roughly two years ago was underwhelming. I remember thinking that this was a completely average burger in every way: bun, meat, toppings all failing to register as remarkable in any way. But then The Heights location opened up and I had to give it a go. Could I have been wrong about the last Hubcap Grill visit? Sure. After all, Hubcap Grill made it on Allison Cook's Top 100 restaurants list so clearly the problem is with me, not the burger, right? Nope, the problem is with the burger. Some people are satisfied with a large volume of meat on bread. Those people will be fine at Hubcap Grill. For the burger connoisseur who understands that a good burger is less about meat volume and more about the seasoning, the texture, the softness of the bun and interplay of toppings, you'll find Hubcap Grill disappointing. It's fair. It's bland. It's nothing special. Don't think I'm a burger snob... well OK... I AM a burger snob... but a burger doesn't have to be fancy to be amazing. In fact, the two top burgers in the state by my measure are at Alamo Springs Cafe in Fredericksburg and Dutch's Hamburgers in Fort Worth. Both of these places are modest (that might be a generous adjective to describe Alamo Springs Cafe). Anybody who claims that this is the best burger in Houston needs to get out more. Newer burger chains like Five Guys and Elevation Burger make a better burger. Plonk, Petrol Station and Lankford's Grocery make a better burger. Frankly, Whataburger makes a better burger than does Hubcap Grill. Other than the burger, Hubcap Grill's proximity to Cedar Creek is a plus. Also, you can fill up your vehicle at Houston Biodiesel right next door, so that's a redeeming quality. I reserve one star reviews for when I've been physically assaulted by waitstaff or intentionally poisoned by the chef. As such, 2 stars.

Hubcap Grill is burger heaven. There's nothing like sitting outside on a nice day having one of those burger, specialty fries, and a beer. While the downtown location only serves traditional burgers the location in the heights is the place to go! They have a full menu of specialty burgers and fries as well as a better bottled beer selection than most bars in Houston. My favorite is the sticky monkey burger: a beef patty, crunchy peanut butter, bacon, American cheese, and grilled bananas. I know what you're thinking, bananas and peanut butter on a burger? Try it you will not be disappointed, the combination of sweet and savory is like nothing you've ever tried. The country fries are topped with creamy gravy and bacon. This place is perfect for that nice day out if you're looking for something delicious. Just know they aren't open on Sunday's, so get you're craving in Monday through Saturday.

Great burgers, they're massive! Tons of variety on their burger menu and lots of great flavor combinations. They have a pretty varied menu of specialty fries too that are pretty good, though the fries by themselves are pretty lackluster, bordering on unpleasant. Overall though a great place to go if you're looking for a nice big burger with great flavor and variety. I recommend the Hangover burger! I've tried a few of them and once I tried the Hangover burger I haven't ordered anything else since, it's fantastic.

The burger was good but was so heavy that my girlfriend and I didn't feel well afterwards. I'm pretty sure its because of grease/fat rather than anything else. I almost felt sick at one point. So if you go, you may want to split a burger or order something not too heavy. FYI, I ordered a double decker but took one of the layers off and split an order or regular fries. Credit Cards: they don't have credit cards, cash only or debit cards. but i get it, those credit cards fees are ridiculous. They only have burgers on the menu, so not much selection outside a huge selection of burgers.

Not bad but certainly not great either. I drove out there last night looking for a really LA style burger. You know the kind. Flat top grilled. Crispy outside and yummy inside. Soft but usually wrapped in waxed paper and just all around delicious. This was not that burger. The burger itself was pretty good, however the bun was not. It was on a Kaiser roll which was a little dry and tough. The building itself was alright. Very much a dive. Just a walk up window along the street. Picnic table seating outside which makes for a nice communal setting. The only issue I had outside were the ants (which it is Texas in the summer so I can deal with that) but what's up with the cats??? There were several cats roaming around which made it a little creepy. All in all it was pretty good but not worth the drive from the city.

Awesome burgers, fresh fries and a decent beer selection. Never had sausage on a burger before...but will again in the future!

Three stars.....let me explain. The wife and I went on a cold rainy Monday night. We dined in the indoor seating and it was such a boring sitting area. The room was depleted of any decor, reminded me of my first apartment. There were two other couples in the small area and they were all whispering their conversations because of the echo the room created. It was too cold to sit outside at the wooden patio which seems to be a huge factor for this restaurant's experience. 2 stars Now the food gets 4 stars!!!!! I annihilated the Triple Heart Clogger and my wife enjoyed the Bacon Cheeseburger. My Triple Heart Clogger consisted of a beef patty, bacon, and a hotdog!!! The fries were tasty but nothing special. We will definitely go back but only if the weather permits us to sit outside.

Had a TX bbq burger, a bacon cheeseburger, and sweet potato fries. The patties were well-done, nothing special. The bread was tasteless, and a bit too large, but they weren't soggy. The sweet potato fries were not crisp and were dry so no salt would stick to them. I would not recommend the fries. The bbq burger had sausage and bbq sauce and jalepenos on it which was a nice combination but was rather heavy in my stomach. I wish I could use my credit card.

Hubcap Grill sliders make me happy in my pants. I have been a fan of the Downtown location for some time but since I work in Westchase I'm not always able to make it there during the week. Needless to say I was psyched when I found out the location on 19th St was opening and would have extended hours. Can I get a woo hoo? WOO HOO! The 19th St location also has more burger options and a lot of fry options. Oh, and lots of good (i.e. craft) beer. I will always miss the burger truck but I am thankful to have the little beefy, cheesy, tasty sliders available again.

I really don't understand how Hubcap keeps showing up on people's lists. It's bad. There are better burgers pretty much at any bar. The burgers patties here are bland, their buns are chewy, and their fries are soggy and limp. The hype about this place needs to go away. Their great beer selection saves this place from being a 1-star.

    (2)
  • Johnny N.

Not sure what the hype is all about. They serve hamburgers and sometimes with a 40+ minute wait. I know the sign had said no complaining but that's way too long a wait for a burger. I ordered the Hubcap burger, tasty indeed but nothing special. For the wait i could have drove to the market, buy fresh meat and cook it myself and it would be done in less than 40 minutes. It's more of a place if you want to come hangout with your friends have a couple beers and by the time your drunk your burger is ready. Not the ideal place to go for an hour long lunch break.

I've given this place the double take and I'm ashamed. Double take in a bad way cause so many people said it was such a good burger, I had to try it twice to verify it's inferiority to so many other burger joints in Houston. First off, this is what I call a traditional style burger which is thin flat patty that is cooked through. So they have a few interesting toppings but hey, who doesn't now. I always try the classic burger for a fair comparison. The patty was over worked and over cooked both times. The seasoning was flavorful but not notable. So basically it's a fresh patty but nothing stands out about it and they don't know how to cook it. Secondly, I don't know why there is always a line here. Sorry but it shouldn't take 40 mins for a burger if I'm only ~10 people back. Stood true both times I went. There is no indoor seating here and only patio furniture or picnic benches are available. Food truck with available seating. The prices here are insane for what you get. I could get a gourmet burger for about the same price. People need to educate themselves and stop over hyping something they saw highly rated in an article. That's another story about these stupid food critics that don't know how to correctly review food. Yes the burger is better than McDonald's but this is nothing to be impressed about. I should give a one star cause the owner was bitching about a bad review but I'm better than that, I stay true to the food.

I was hesitant to try this place, because on Twitter the owner seems like a jerk. I even resisted when my ex-roommate told me it was the best burger he's had in Houston. But on a warm summer day, I finally made it out to meet a friend I hadn't seen in ten years. Because I wanted to judge the burger on its own merits, I ordered a basic cheeseburger (and a glass of wine). As much as I hate to admit it, the burger was really, really good. The burger was deliciously seasoned, and was nice and juicy. I do sort of understand why he would be upset with people comparing it to Whatabuger, because the burger had hand-formed, seasoned patties. There was a decent wait, but understandable considering the thickness of the burger. If you get a burger quickly, it probably means it was already cooked by the time you ordered (or the burger is super thin). This place cooks it fresh; hence, the wait. I'd probably go again. Although after calling the owner a jerk, maybe I should wear a disguise when I do. Perhaps a paste-on stache. There was plenty of parking and seating when I went.

Okay here it is. Had been wanting to go try this hamburger place because I had read that Ms. Allison had voted it as Number One. WRONG. I went by today with a friend and just had the cheese burger with their cheese bacon fries.....Awww!! The meat had so much gristle and it tasted like they had overcooked it. The fries were very salty. One thing that I did not like, was I asked the cashier if I could have the bacon and the cheese on the little containers they put the ketchup on and she flatly denied me. She said the owner does not like to change the orders. WHAT!!!!! The owner, excuse me for living. I should have never gone. I had asked for those two items separately because I was afraid I was going to get a sloppy mess and sure enough! The places where I THINK HAVE GREAT SERVICE AND HAMBURGERS are the following: Pappas Burgers, Christian's Tailgate and Lanksford. Sorry, Hubcap, wasted time and money. Never again. Not to mention that the little room they have on the side was too hot. The A/C was not on high enough on this hot day. FORGET ABOUT IT!!!!! You, Mr. Owner, forgot the golden rule: The customer is always right.

My brother took me to lunch and I suggested the Hubcap Grill, because we were passing 19th street at the time. I had read several reviews of this burger joint and it always seems busy. If you are busy, it must be worth the money. Luckily, they did not disappoint. My brother ordered a typical burger and fries per his simple tastes. I remember reading about the sticky burger w/ peanut butter, so I gave it a whirl. I should have read right below on the menu and ordered the sticky monkey burger, which adds bananas. (I honestly thought PB and Beef? Must be nasty). They pulled it off! The flavors mix perfect and the texture is manipulated by the crunchy peanut butter. It was amazing. I debated over four or five stars, because the fries were ordinary. However, I didn't order signature fries or anything. Maybe, my standards are unreachable. Maybe, that's why I'm single, hmm? I ordered to be disappointed and walked away happy. They earned the five stars...

This place has the best burger in the entire city of Houston. I've tried a lot of burgers, but this is the only one that leaves me craving for it later. They have a lot of fun burger styles, like the sticky burger with peanut butter, and when they have it the waffle burger. It's a patio/ beer garden place, and while they have a small indoor seating area, it's much more fun to sit outside. You could also get your food to go in especially hot or rainy times. Their beer selection is pretty good, a lot of local bottles, but no draft beer. Even have a couple of wines if that's your poison. It is mostly kid friendly, as long as your kid likes burgers or sliders (mini burgers). But there's a lot of space in the back for them to run around. The staff is a little surly, but don't let that scare you. Just be laid back and reasonable and you should have a great time. The burgers are worth it!

Bottom line up front: Solid, big burgers, nothing to call home about, outdoor seating is lacking Was hoping to go to Gatling's BBQ but it was closed. I settled for Hubcap Grill instead. Ordered a regular burger with sweet potato fries. The fries seemed like the run-of-the-mill frozen sweet potato fries. Nothing special here. The burger was definitely bigger than most. The patty was well seasoned but I think the bun bread was lacking. If Hubcap improved their buns, the burger's taste would be better. All in all, a solid burger joint but Hubcap doesn't stand out enough for me to remember it.

FABULOUS burgers. Just what you expect for a a home town place. they do one thing- burgers- and they do it WELL. A win over Lankfords for me b/c the fries are obviously homemade from real potatoes (with the skin) and not Frozen. I had the sticky monkey- it was novel... my friends had regular hamburger adn cheeseburger. They looked amazing, too. Where have I been all of your life, Hubcap Grill?

On Saturday night I recommended to some friends that we give this place a try. I've never been to the original location downtown. There was a line to order, but that gave us enough time to decide what we wanted to order. There were so many selections to choose from. I ordered the patty melt, it was pretty good, but the rye bread was a little weird. I guess they didn't want soggy bread on the sandwich. Most patty melts have toasted white bread for the bun. The best was that they have Mexican Coke and all sorts of other bottled sodas. Oh, and they have a large selection of beers, but since I don't drink beer I'll stick with the soda. I would recommend that they get some Saint Arnold root beer! The beer garden atmosphere was great. We were there at night when the sun was going down and it really wasn't too hot out. There were plenty of picnic table to choose from. They also had ping pong, washers, and bean bags (cornhole). I'd like to return to eat and hang with friends.

I just learned that Hubcap Grill now has 2 locations, which is awesome because this one is open later and is not in downtown. :) So my friend and I decided to try this place because we wanted something new. We both opted for the Frito pie burger. It was delicious! I love Frito pies, and putting one on a burger was a stroke of genius on their part. The jalapenos were nice and spicy. The burger patty is huge. One burger is very filling. Somehow, I found room for some bacon cheese fries. You can't go wrong with putting bacon and cheese on fries. They have a lot of different beers available. They don't have the prices listed, but we were told how much the bottle was before we got the Piraat Ale from Belgium. You can also get old-fashioned sodas in bottles, or you can get a bottle of water. This is a very cool place. It's a nice break away from the chain burger places. We were told the wait would be 45 minutes, and it was well worth the wait. It's a nice place to sit outside and listen to the tunes. It's definitely worth another visit.

It is hard to truly rate a restaurant on its soft opening so this is just an informative review for now. The menu has the same fare as the downtown location but with added options such as peanut butter/grilled banana burger and quite a few other creations as well. The patties and buns are the exact same as the ones that draw lines of people downtown for lunch. The french fry menu is interesting with about 10 different type of topped fries such as with sriracha mayo or country gray. They do not have fries right now during the soft opening though. There are quite a few craft beer bottles available including a lot of Saint Arnold and Real Ale varieties. There is a small indoor dining room with a few tables but most of the seating is outdoors at a ton of picnic tables. Some have umbrellas, some do not. They take cash and debit cards. I am not sure about credit cards but it did not sound like it. The hours were not posted but they were open for dinner on Tuesday around 7:00 pm when I was there.

Come hungry, these are HUGE! DH likes the sticky monkey burger, but could only eat half. Fries w/gravy and bacon were tried. Should have left off the bacon. More like bacon bits and too smokey. I played it safe w/ a burger w/swiss cheese and mushrooms. Lots of greasy meat like mom used to make. Good craft beer selection. The place is a dive, greasy burger joint. We ate inside and it was pretty filthy. Would go back on a nice day and sit outside.

Hubcap is one of those places that prides itself on treating customers as pests. The place is littered with signs telling you want they don't do and refuse to do. After an announcement there was a 35 minute wait- we waited an hour for our burger. Service is crap and its pretty dirty. It gets two stars for the fact that the burgers are above average. Keep standing by your "policy" to not put anything on the side- that's a good battle to fight. You won; we won't be coming back.

I finally went to hubcap to see what all the press is about. The wait wasn't too bad and the young lady at the counter was very nice. Now for the burger, it was tasty but slightly salty, the bun was dry and tasteless. I can say I tried it but there are too many really good burger places to see the " exceptional" at Hubcap.

I like this location more than their downtown location. It's more spacious, and well you don't have to deal with the downtown parking. I had the philly cheese steak burger it was ok, really greasy and made me feel really sick and sleepy afterwards. I also had the sweet potato fries...meh.

Went with a group of long-time fans: Cheesy Cheeto and the Sticky were group favorites. The regular burger is one of the best in town for a skinny patty. I still lean towards Christians Tailgate with green chiles, but everything here is solid. Great Jukebox. One in our group dared to stray from his traditional order with the Philly Cheesesteak Burger and was well rewarded with another great choice. The meat and bun were perfect with amazing flavor.

Best burger joint in Houston. My favorite is the Philly Cheesesteak burger but they have lots of creative combinations to satisfy any meat lover. Ask for special sauce with your fries. Follow them on twitter @hubcap_grill to find current wait times and to make sure they haven't run out. Fresh, never frozen meat, freshly baked buns & fresh hand-cut fries! The key word is fresh. Putting out a quality product sometimes means limited qualities. This is a good sign people!

This place is as raw as the neighborhood it is in. It's almost purposely overly a dive as if to prove that they are truly a dive. There is absolutely no seating indoors and the covered seating is very limited. This over-the-top burger dive spot really is for fair-weather diners who prefer to eat without the scorching heat, freezing cold, or soggy rainy days. There is plenty of outdoor seating that wraps around to the back of the establishment for those looking to hit this place up on a decent weather day.. There are only a few tables covered by the roofing, and only a few that have umbrellas. All other seating is out in the open rain or shine. The expectation is obvious based on the neighborhood they are situated in as well as the type of seating they have available..this is definitely a dive burger spot. The prices however, will make you realize that it isn't a dive. The food is absolutely on the pricey side for burgers and fries, but the food is better than any dive I've eaten at. All of the burgers and fries are cooked to order, so no fast food type of preparation going on here. It does take a little time to get your order, so don't expect that you will be walking away with a quick meal. The food is worth the wait to enjoy, so make sure you plan for enough time to order, wait, and eat. Burger and fry portions are large here, so come prepared with a big appetite or be ready to split your meal with a friend. I opted to split a burger and fries with a friend after seeing how large the portions were on other tables. We ordered up the Hell Fries and the Burger Sliders. Hello Heat! The Hell Fries certainly brought heat, but nothing I needed to have extinguished by water. They had a nice spicy flavor without being unbearably hot. The fries were fresh tasting and border-lined being over fried, but were saved by the toppings. The Burger Sliders were equally as yummy. They were served with a side of ketchup, but they certainly didn't need it. The meat was juicy, moist, and flavorful. The grilled onions and cheese atop the burger patty made for a perfect slider without the need for any other toppings to crowd this smaller burger. The staff is helpful, but not overly friendly, so don't expect that warm Southern welcome at the register and DO ensure that you know what you want to order before getting to the order window because the staff don't like people who are not prepared with what they want.

This was my second time at HCG, I ordered the "Black and Blue" and a Saint Arnold Elissa. I was there around three on a Monday so it wasn't busy. The burger was seasoned very well, it was juicy and the blue cheese and bacon really set it off. And the bun was toasted well. All in all a good place to grab a burger and brew, and a large selection of great beers. And for the people that complain about bugs, your eating outside. What do you expect. I will be back again to try the "Hell Fries" and "Frito Pie Burger"

Delish!!! Don't get any fries, their burgers are enough & you won't eat them! The burgers are juicy and perfect. I paid under$7 for a frito pie burger and it was worth every penny! New favorite hamburger place. Its not a fancy place so don't expect chez Pierre, but it's a place to kick back, eat a great burger and drink a cold one. Service was fine for us when we went. Nothing but good things to say

Tonight I met the Owner of Hubcap Grill. Ricky has some fans and he has some foes. But thats neither here nor there as this is about my experience. My global impression is that he is a passionate owner of a successful restaurant. He has some challenges that he is facing head on and addressing them the best he can. He proved that to me tonight. My last review was a little harsh, but as you can see, I am passionate about my burgers and beyond disappointed about being turned away so early on a Saturday. BUT the fact is that he had no choice. The mere popularity of the Grill and physics caused him to call it a night far ealier than he wanted. Believe me, thats a good problem to have, especially when you can fix it, as he is in process of doing. Bottom line is that the food is great at Hubcap Grill. I sand by my original review of the place. I am still impressed with the quality of the burgers and the fixings. The sweet potato fries are awesome and the fries are great (I love sweet potatoes so I might be a little biased) Cold beer and good burgers are a great American past time and that can definitely be enjoyed here. Hubcap has a great relaxed atmosphere and offers no frills (Thats part of its charm). I respect and recommend the place for just that reason. In fact, I was told there will be more fun coming. My issues with place are in the past. Tonight, the Staff was friendly and the owner showed courage, dedication and passion for his brand by meeting with me to address my concerns. I am happy and confident to say "Come to Hubcap Grill" Its not the fastest (But nothing worth eating is fast) its not the fanciest (No great burger place is) but what it does offer, is a great local grill thats evolving positively into the best damn burger shack in the city. You should definitely NOT be disappointed in the food, so give it a try! If you like it let Ricky know, if you dont, still let him know because he wants to know.

Best hamburgers I have had in Houston. We now go regularly and take guests and family when they are in town. 5 stars--The burgers. I have had more than half of the burgers on the menu, and not one has disappointed me. 5 stars--Outstanding beer selection. 4 stars--The hell fries are good, but they need a bit more hell. 5 stars--All other fries have been great. 5 stars--The service has always been great. The staff is friendly and conversational. The downside is also the charm. It is a dive with outdoor seating on picnic tables. After placing your order, you grab a seat and wait for your food to be cooked. I love it. This means fresh food, not precooked, mass-produced food like at chain restaurants.

this shit is bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S this shit is bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S Today, I drugged some friends to try out Hubcap Grill, after seeing all the great reviews. I knew I was in love when I read the names on the menu... Beach Bum, Sticky Monkey, and Stinky Fries. I opted to the Sticky Monkey Burger. I was nervous about having peanut putter, bananas, red meat, bacon, and cheese all together. But when the food came out, that shit was defiantly B-A-N-A-N-A-S. I was not expecting all of the favors to swirl together and create such a wonderful taste. I am excited to go back and try another wonderful adventure. Out of the 3 burgers on the table, not one bite was left. Yum!

I have eaten here twice. Both times I ordered the black and blue burger. They were both very good and I will go back when I have a chance. The bule cheese was out of a bottle and the patty was good. Consistancy varied with both burgers. The burgers are messy so don't take a date and you are outside so be sure to go on good weather days only.

Good food that will fill you up. A nice selection on burgers and drinks. But I didn't like the ants! Ants on the tables n crawling n biting you : ( if you went inside it was to closed in. The outside had a grease puddle that was dripping from the roof. Overall good food but not awesome environment.

This place is DELISH! Only reason it's getting one star off is because you might not be able to go to work after lunch here... the portions are pretty big and heavy (of course you will be eating a big juicy burger). The atmosphere here is awesome - but the inside area is very small, so plan on sitting outside! All of my friends recommend the Sticky Monkey burger, I'm not too much of a peanut butter fan but they swear by it. My fav is the Cheesey Cheeto Burger, if you like cheese/cheetos this is the burger for you! I've also had the Greek Burger and have no complaints. ALSO - Awesome beer here and lots of it! Overall I don't think any burger joint in Houston compares!

I went during the week and I was not impressed. The server at the window was rude and clearly did not want to be there. She acted if we were inconveniencing her by giving her our order. It was rainy, so we went the small dining room which was stone silent and dark. We were the only customers there and the food came out rather quickly, but it was greasy and bland. The patty melt was clearly a burger placed between to pieces of toast, there was no melt in the patty melt. Towards the end of our meal, one of the employees blasted the music in the dinning room out of the blue scaring the crap out of us. It was just an unwelcoming atmosphere with no flavor and grumpy employees. My mother and I were also sick the next day. It might be different on the weekend, that's what I'm told by other people who have been. Personally if you can't handle a slow night with three to four customers an hour, how can you handle a busy night.

    (1)
  • Simeon K.

They deserve exactly 3.5 which is their current rating. Loved the scene, music and outdoor seating. expected a little more from the burger although i only tried the original cheeseburger. i usually gauge a burger place based on their original basic cheeseburger and none of the fancy other exotic flavors. great prices. cheaper than whattaburger sweet potato fries were par for what i'd expect.

Burger was ok, well seasoned but I despise a burger patty that falls apart with each bite. I do like the patio and they've got a pretty good local beer selection .

So, I am embarking on this 2013 Burger Adventure and I decided to get out there and find the best burger(s) around. I am three restaurants in and this so far has been the best. I have a long way to go. I see some people complain about the ambiance, etc. and I think to myself..."REALLY?" This is a dive hamburger joint, the kind that makes the real deal burgers. No muss, no fuss and you want to complain about ambiance? My advice is to go to a five star restaurant and pay an arm and a leg, Hubcap Grill is not your kind of place. Now, to get on with my review... The burger I had really hit the spot. I went on a pretty Saturday afternoon and had no issue finding a place to sit or park. I ordered a mushroom-swiss burger with bacon, just a tad too salty, but I also don't have a great deal of salt in my diet, so it's more noticeable to me. It certainly didn't keep me from enjoying it. My cousin and partner in crime for this adventure ordered the hangover burger. When we got there, there was somewhat of a line but not that bad. In total, we waited about 10 minutes to place our order and 30 minutes to get what we ordered. Not a big deal to us because the weather was so nice and we enjoyed a beer and some great conversation. We finally received our order and it was totally worth the wait. Not overcooked, just right. There are many joints that press the juices out of their burgers (a big no, no), but this was not the case at Hubcap. The burger was nice and juicy without being soggy, but then I like mine med well. The burger was also humongous, one of those burgers that you wonder how you will bite into but somehow manage. The ingredients were all fresh, the bun the same. My cousin had the hangover burger. A huge two fisted burger that had bacon, ham, French fries, American cheese and country cream gravy on it. Yes, you read that correctly, there were French fries on the burger and cream gravy. Not for the faint of heart for sure and I felt almost ashamed that I went kind of plain Jane with my burger. I thought my cousin was going to have to unhinge his jaw to take a bite, but it wasn't necessary and he did just fine. My cousin and I were thoroughly sated and duly impressed. This place will go down on the top ten recommendation list once we (I) finish this adventure. I highly recommend trying Hubcap, but will give some advice/hints. This place is on the top of many hamburger lists that I found for Houston and word of mouth seems to do a good job of advertising too. So, if you want a place like McDonalds or Whataburger where you are in and out quickly then I would bypass Hubcap all together. It is not the place for you and they are very honest in telling you how long the wait will be once they get busy. Their burgers are cooked to order. We went around 1 pm on a Saturday and this really was a good time. Crowded, but not too crowded, but it did pick up after we placed our order. If you are looking for that five star ambiance and atmosphere and are just one of those people that have to be pampered and coddled. Hubcap it not the place for you. You walk up to a window, place your order and then either sit in a small indoor dining room with no frills and thrills or outside in the open air. No fuss, no muss. This is a burger joint in the true sense of the word period. On to my next burger adventure!

Seriously good burgers! Ive eaten burgers in every state across the land and I can say you will find none juicier or more delicious. I have to LOL at a few of the negative reviews here. It seems they don't know a good hamburger from a hole in the ground. Try the Philly Cheesesteak burger, It's so good you'll want to sew your B-hole shut.

My family intended to eat at Cedar Creek but since it was really packed we decided to give Hubcap Grill a try. We had never been to Hubcap and if satisfied would be repeat customers since we live nearby. WE WILL NEVER REPEAT THAT HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AGAIN! Here is why: 1. The decor is pretty pathetic, most of the Hubcaps are ghetto cheap Honda caps. Get some old authentic caps and signage, pretty weak attempt. 2. The indoor seating should have a sign that says "Stinky Ass None Ventilating Closet" We attempted to sit down in there because it was really hot outside but opted out over dying inside a human oven 3. The uninviting burger stand window makes you feel like you are ordering from a construction site taco stand. 4. We had people in our group that don't eat beef, they have no alternative. 5. My burger was soaked in grease for 10 years and then piled on a more grease then crammed between two giant buns and smothered with sweaty cheese. I felt like I had a heart attack and was rolling around in bed all night. 6. Don't get the stinky fries haha. They taste horrible and have way too much vinegar. Overall I was not happy and our whole group indicated they would not want to come back to this place. Something about it doesn't feel inviting, they have a ton of good space and you would think it would be packed but it's basically a junk yard with burger patties being cooked on top of a rusty old car and served to you through a Jail cell window. I recommend getting your arteries checked after eating here.

I have driven past Hubcap Grill for years, always wondering why we have never eaten there. Tonite hubbie suggested we try it out, instead of our usual place down the road. I was excited that we were finally going. We were there early on a Friday evening, although I don't think that had much to do with my opinion of the place. We walked up to the window to place our beer and food order. The window opened half way; the sign on the window was placed in such a way that it completely obscured the view of the person on the other side. You felt compelled to lean over to see her, then realized it was useless. We talked to the window, asking a few questions about the menu, received mono- syllabic word responses; the beers came out and the window was shut. Ok, customer service not their forte. The burgers and fries came promptly, however there are several signs around warning patrons that good food takes a while to prepare, Be prepared to wait, No whining. I meant that as I phrased it - warning. Not in good humor, not trying to be funny. Warning. The food was good, not great. I thought I was ordering an "off the wall" kind of burger; their menu titles are fun sounding. I ordered a Cheesy Cheetos Burger. It came with a nice tasting burger, descent cheese sauce ( probably canned) and 7 Cheetos on top. Seven. Hubby went back over to Window Lady to ask for naps, she pointed in their direction. No words. The weather was cool so we checked out eating in the inside area. It had all the character of a bus station. We decided sitting outside in the wind was a better choice. We ate our food, drank our beer and left. Disappointed. Crossed off an item on our Bucket List.

It was pretty underwhelming. The burger was good, but the cheese fries were tragically bad, and the owner has a series of hand written "rules" for dinners taped up around the place. Not going back any time soon.

Very good burger, but the owner is a complete jackass in how he deals with the public. Follow him on Twitter @hubcap_grill and see the workings of a man who should be in "time out", not a successful businessman. You can almost hear the foot stomps! #brat

BEST BURGER IN HOUSTON!! I had the double cheeseburger and it was like "sex in the mouth". I have been slowly trying all of the best burger places in Houston and this has been my favorite one so far. From the fresh baked bun, to the thin meat patties still having a hint of redness in the middle, to the cheese that was perfectly melted, this burger was pretty much heaven. Not to mention there was a great beer selection for a hamburger joint. Also there wasn't much of wait when I was there. We walked right up to the counter, ordered and our food was out in like 10 min, and it was Sat at 6pm. However, within the next 20 or 30 min they sold out because their burgers are that awesome *Might be ironic but I want to go to Ricky's anti yelp party, thanks Ken!

Everyone has heard of hubcap and how it has the best burgers in Houston, and around the US... no doubt they have good burgers, I'm not complaining about the food. The problem with Hubcap is that they know they have good burgers, therefore they do not have to rely on customer satisfaction for repeat business. They told us it would be a 30 minute wait for our food, ended up being an hour and 5 minutes. They have no apologies and no sense of urgency. The person sitting next to us got up and left because it took so long and all the person at the counter said was "OK, here's your money back". I get it, they tell you there will be a wait... but an hour for 2 burgers (just 2 cheese burgers, nothing fancy) is way too long to have to wait. They claim to do one ticket at a time, don't start working on the next burger till the previous order is made. I have one suggestions: LEARN TO MULTI-TASK. and also learn to be nice to your customers, it might actually make the wait tolerable.

This place gets three stars for one reason and one reason only: it took forever to get our burgers. It was like they had to drive to Louisiana, slaughter a cow, and prepare the meat all while we waited. I can't fathom what took so long. It was a great day and I was in a great mood so I wasn't prepared to care about a long wait, but it was excessive. So what made up for this wait was one of the best burgers I've ever had. I got a standard cheeseburger and it was incredible. The french fries (standard) were maybe even better. They were great. They also have a great beer selection which is a big plus. It's a cool environment, there are some sandbag games, lots of seating (picnic style), and some lawn chairs. Cool joint.

Warning! Only try a triple meat and cheese with a fried egg if you are really hungry. Never had a burger slow me down before. Tasted great! Also had some bacon cheese fries and the country fries(cream gravy and bacon), it all went down great with some Brooklyn Brown Lager.

Best. Burger. Ever. I must have told half a dozen people how awesome Hubcap Grill was after my lunch time burger this week! I made my own burger vs trying one of their menu items. I chose a 1/3 lb patty and layered on my usual. Grill onions, fried egg and hold the cheese. After my first bite, all I could say was...wow, this is freakin' awesome! The bread, the grill onions, the well seasoned meat, the egg and did I mention the bread....?? It all just worked! I also got a side of sweet potato fries. This is probably some of the crispiest sweet potato fries I've had anywhere. Too bad it was lunch time on a work day or else I would have sprang for a beer as well. A word of caution, you will need napkins...lots of them.

I just dont get the love for Hubcap.. Overpriced (for the location and quality), low quality and average taste at best.. Canned mushrooms for a mushroom & swiss burger? Wait time was 30-45 mins with only a few orders ahead of us.. Nice collection of hillbilly beers.. Debit cards or cash only.. If you do go, say hello to 1996 for me..

I'd heard alot of hype about the place and decided to give it a shot myself, but was sorely disappointed. There were certainly some interesting choices of toppings and I decided to go with french fries and gravy on mine while my wife went for cheetos and cheese sauce to be really adventurous. The toppings were a little disappointing. There was hardly any gravy on mine and it looked like they completely missed the cheese sauce aspect of the cheeto burger. The meat however was downright awful. It was dry and crumbly as if it had been frozen for a long time prior, then thrown directly on the grill and cooked well beyond the point any burger should be. We ate a few bites threw them away and went to eat somewhere else The meat is obviously the heart of any burger no matter how you dress it up and this meat was dry, flavorless, and poorly prepared. Maybe they were just having an off day, but I won't be back to give it another try.

This is my second review on Hubcap Grill, since I have changed my mind about them. If you add all sorts of crazy toppings to any burger, obviously it will be tasty. I tried just their plain cheeseburger, and it was dry and lacked taste. Sweet potato fries were fresh. There are better burgers in Houston.

Great burger joint located in the heights. Bring your appetite as you'll need it to finish a burger and order of fries here. Walk up window to place your order. Self service but great food. Just remember that if you think you might get thirsty order enough beverages so you won't have to stand back in line to get another one mid meal...

"Best burger in Houston" feels a little hyperbolic in my opinion, but this is still a great burger joint. Decent amount of parking, and I'm always a fan of picnic tables outdoors with covering, so the set up was great. I was too intrigued by the sticky burger (peanut butter + cheese + bacon = the enemy of my arteries, but the essence of my soul) not to order it, and I decided to go with the sliders because I knew I wouldn't finish. I probably should have ordered the original sticky burger because it was evident that the sliders weren't made with quite as much oomph as the hand-formed patties. The four sliders were attached, and although fully cooked, they weren't quite as smoky or fresh tasting as the bites of my friends' burgers. The bacon wasn't crispy, and the peanut butter lacked flavor (I think a slightly sweeter peanut butter would really kick it up a notch). The regular fries were perfectly plain jane, but nothing to brag about. The hell fries were absolutely amazing, however, and I've learned my lesson- always order the specialty fries. I was also able to try the hubcap decker and the black and bleu, and both were outstanding. Who needs sliders when you can have the real thing, right? After an entire evening of meal envy, I can truthfully say that I'll return to Hubcap Grill for one of the original hand-formed patties and some thoroughly smothered fries.

Great place for a burger. Bun is toasted and served hot. Toasted top and bottom of bun. Great taste to the patty. Seasoned well, slight onion taste. Perfect juicy tasty burger. Nice size burger, the single is perfect size, double was a little too thick, but was still awesome.

Decent spot to get a hand-formed patty. Their burger has been voted best burger in the city. I know so many other places that make a better burger though. I finally made it to their Heights location and wasn't super impressed with their basic burger with 2 patties. It was big, yes, but it was also very greasy. The table also ordered the bacon cheese fries and these were alright even though I typically love hand cut fries. I think it was the cheese that ruined it for me. It seemed to be a combination of both melted shredded cheddar and a cheese sauce.....didnt like it. I was relieved to find they had an indoor seating area on a hot day, but the a/c wasn't nearly cold enough and my party of 6 were all still pretty hot in there. FYI, they carry their own label of root beer (with a few other flavors as well), but it's bottled by a company that does private labeling for a few other restaurants here in town (i.e. Blake's, Leibman's, Otto's BBQ, etc.) so I'm willing to bet it tastes similar too....which isn't anything special. Self-proclaimed root beer snob here. Prices were pretty reasonable, but I probably won't be coming back anytime soon

All I have to say is WOW worst customer service I've seen in a while all I asked was to put my buns on the side so they don't get soggy when I get home. but the lady who took my order refused and immediately starting taking the orders from the guy behind me so I was furious and I just left and was positive that I saw some roaches scurry on the floor when I was leaving wouldn't recommend this place at all

They love to display how sloppy they are. I was so disgusted with the open dumpster (put the cover on it, man.) and trash bags near the patio to invite flies. This is all outdoor seating. I have to agree with my Yelper friends' opinions - poor service and pricey. I ordered a Greek Fries - Feta cheese with Hubcap sauce. While I was forking my fries, I saw a string. I asked myself, "feta cheese doesn't melt and where did this cheese string come from?" Holy cow, it was a human hair. I was recommended by my friends to get a refund for this grotesque scene. But I was so involved with the conversation and didn't want to make a big scene in front of a long line of customers. I just scooped it aside. I'd come back for some of their tasty homemade root beer. I was disappointed with the menu. If you have digestion problem, this is not the place for you. There isn't anything to take a break from meats and fried stuff.

If you are having that "I want a juicy burger craving", honestly, you can do way better. I speak for this location only, as I have yet to try the rest which have higher ratings. Order of: Bacon cheeseburger + sweet potato fries Firstly, I was not impressed with the burger flavor and they did not even ask me how I wanted my meat cooked. They just figured to bring it red and bloody. Also, they could add more than a strip of bacon. As for the fries, they tasted burnt and "old". Secondly, while I will praise the bread of the burger and the "speedy-ness" in which I was served, I can say I probably will not return to this place. Ambiance: Seating is mainly outside. People, we live in Texas! It is hot and flies will not hesitate to make you company. While there is some seating inside, their inside feels like you are eating in a dark little quiet room. Overall, the patio idea could be a good one despite the heat if they were to clean it up from that trashy look.

Heard good things about this burger joint. I like the atmosphere, it's a cool place to hang out and chill. There is a lot of beer to choose from as well. The burger was mediocre, and the fries were not that good. Come for the beer and the atmosphere only. What I ordered: -Stinky Fries -Jalapeño Cheeseburger

Excellent five star burgers in a no nonsense setting. Period. There are some places that I have to try a few times before I write a review about them, then there are places like Hubcap Grill where one experience speaks volumes. I came here because it was on my list of best burgers in Houston to try, and I brought a buddy from work who can't resist their Philly cheese stake burger. In his words, "Ladies, if you want to find out what kind of man you are dating, then bring him here." Initially apprehensive arriving at this place in the dark of a Houston 65 degree winter night. It looked like an old auto shop put together with pieces of wood and sheets of metal roofing that might have been scrounged from a scrap yard. The outdoor seating was a mix match of plastic chairs, plastic tables, and scraped up wooden picnic benches. You get your water from a cooler. Of course there were hubcaps and auto grills nailed onto everything. Absolutely priceless. The best food many times comes from a divey looking place. I had no idea what to order from all the many creations on the menu, but there was this review I read from some girl that ordered a "Bacon Decker." It wasn't exactly on the menu, so I ordered that. You have to bend back pretty far to read that menu posted over your head at the window, so I didn't bother trying to figure out what it was I was ordering. When she asked if we wanted sides, I looked up and saw the words "Bacon" and "Fries" and ordered that. Then we got out of the way so that the small line of folks behind us could order. So, looking around there is a group of men that look like they just got off work from a factory, a group of guys dressed in business suites, a family with a baby in a stroller, some guys in t-shirts and shorts, a couple that look like they are on a date, another group of guys with backpacks that might be college students, and then me and my companion in business casual. I only take the time to note this here because it shows the wide variety of patrons. It seems every walk of life is represented to join together for a Hubcap burger tonight. I can only imagine if we were earlier in the day that this place would be packed reminiscent of something like Arthur Bryant's original store. So, the guy from Kansas is sitting in this 65 degree weather next to all these Texan's who can't handle the cold, and I am the one that decides I want to eat indoors. Well, I had to see what was in there. Inside you have Pacman and a group of old tables and chairs. There appears to be a window to the kitchen, but otherwise, you are cut off with no windows, and just the front and back door for exits. It feels a little like being trapped in there. I sat facing a big poster of first aid drawings with captions and directions in some Asian language next to a sign advertising free beer... tomorrow. weird. Our number was called, and we got our burgers and a pile of bacon cheese fries. I couldn't really speak, when I saw the stack of two patties separated by a fried piece of bread with crispy bacon sticking out the top and lettuce and tomato sticking out of the bottom. I mean burger, bun, bacon, grease just dripping off it when I picked it up... It was maybe bigger than my head. This was not going to be a pretty meal. This was a "get down and dirty and eat" meal. You don't really come back from this burger the same way you entered it. You might gain an extra 10 pounds and further clog up your heart, but you might also see a glimpse of heaven towards the end of the meal when you pass out from a food coma. I dunno. My only comment was that "This is not a date place." There is simply no way you can look good eating this glorious mess with the napkins piling higher and your burger looking more and more like something you freshly ripped apart. My friend responded, "No, this is where a lady could bring a guy to show off, I mean if she liked burgers. This is where she could find out what kind of man he is." He says, use this in your review: "Ladies, if you want to find out what kind of man you are dating, then bring him here." I had to take half my burger home. Maybe I'm half the man I thought I was, but I kept thinking that the review I read seemed to be from someone that wouldn't have ordered something this big. Let me be clear! Half the burger is like a whole meal, but by the time you get down to that second half, you've really created a mess that you might not want to reheat and eat... or you might just NOT want to let that fresh ground beef go to waste! Two thumbs up! oh wait, I mean 5 stars!! Go eat here.

Yesterday I went by for an early dinner. The weather was nice with a steady breeze on a mostly cloudy day making for pleasant outdoor dining. This location of Hubcap Grill has about 90% of its seating outdoors with some of it being covered. There is also a small indoor dining area. I have always been a fan of Hubcaps' burgers but primarily at the downtown location. I remember eating here a few years ago after this location opened and not feeling it was at the same level as downtown. After my most recent visit I still agree. Yesterday I ordered their regular burger and had them add grilled onions along with an order of regular fries and a soft drink. The food arrived about 10 minutes later. The burger was very good. The bun was slightly toasted which was ok with me but I don't remember it being that way downtown. I remember soft buns there. The patty was flavorful and juicy. I needed one or two napkins here. While I think Hubcaps' burgers are some of the best in town I am a bigger fan of their French fries. At least the ones downtown. Here my hand cut fries were smaller and consisted of mainly small pieces and bits of fries that disappointed me. They tasted good but I want French fries with some length to them not bits and pieces. I consider this to be a fail by the cooks/servers in giving me these. The burger was a 4 the fries were barely a 3. Downtown the burger is a 4 and the fries a 5. While this location has much more seating than the downtown space and is easier to get to and park I much prefer the food downtown. That's probably why I won't return here. My experience yesterday and a few years ago were forgettable compared to downtown.

My bf told me he heard great reviews about this place. We went here and I liked the atmosphere, that it's an outdoor restaurant and very casual. You go up to the register and order and they call out your number so you can pick it up. I ordered a jalapeno burger with stinky fries. They did not even put jalapenos in my burger, I kept thinking it was just all on one side so by the time I finished I realized there were none. Not only that, the burger looked delicious, but the taste did not match. It was extremely bland and meh. The stinky fries were okay, not a fan of stinky fries in general I rather would have tried the regular fries. I give this place a 3/5 because I like the outdoor and chill atmosphere, otherwise it would have been 2/5, though honestly I would never come back.

I feel like this place should be the scene for a 1970's movie about Texas. Its a run-down building on a beat up section of the street. Dirt parking lot, picnic tables outside to eat at (oh, a few on the inside too). You order your food from a window and they call your number from the other window. The burgers are Gooood though. Not healthy. But Gooood. I got some buffalo fries with bleu cheese and wing sauce, and it had REAL Bleu Cheese on it; not like Kraft Blue Cheese Dressing but fancy pants Bleu Cheese! Yum. Food: 4.5 Drinks: 3.5 (beer only) Service: 3 (depends on if the person behind the window is in a good mood) Atmosphere: 4 (VERY dependent on the weather) Price: 4 Anyway, if you're in for a burger and beer after beating some pre-frosh with paddles ala Dazed and Confused, then this is your spot.

Although I'm a big fan of the Hubcap Grill located downtown, this location? Eh, not so much. The burgers that I've tried, for the most part, are pretty legit. However, the last time I dined here, the bacon cheeseburger was looking really sad. Like seriously sad. The buns were sad, the patty was sad, and I definitely was sad. How about service? Well, what service? You order, you pay, you pick up. Simple concept right? Nope! Again, the last time I was here, I ordered just a regular bacon cheeseburger. I asked to add an egg on it ($1.00) and some grilled onions ($0.75). Simple enough? You'd think so. Anyway, I sat down and waited for my bacon cheeseburger. When I finally got mine, guess what? NO GRILLED ONIONS! So, of course I went back to the pick up window and asked them. She simply looked at the order slip and condescendingly told me that no grilled onions were added to the order. Well, EXCUSE ME! But I did ask for grilled onions and it's not my fault the lady who took my order forgot to put it down. At most places with great customer service, they would have offered to give me some grilled onions on the side. But nope, not here. She just showed me the slip and went on to do her own thing, ignoring me. Well then! Look, I don't care about the grilled onions. I would have happily paid for it. It's the attitude, yo. When I placed the order, there was no "how are you?" No "how can I help you? No smiles, nothing! It was me going up to the window and the lady with a blank stare looking at me with nothing to say. And then the attitude of the other lady at the pick up window? Yeah, no. JUST NO. If you come here over the weekend, the line does get pretty long, but it moves at an acceptable pace. They have very limited seating inside so you'll just have to eat out in the patio area. Nobody ever comes out to clean the tables, by the way. At least I've never seen any the few times I've been there. I would recommend for you to bring some clorox wipe or something to clean the tables. They also offer some craft beer selections, so there's that. Edit: I forgot to add that a friend of mine, Lou C., who happens to be an elite Yelp also ordered some cheese fries to find a long strand of hair in his cheese fries. So if you like some hair with your cheese fries plus poor attitude from the staff, feel free to come here. Otherwise, there are plenty of other excellent burger places you should try in Houston before deciding to come here. This is last resort only

As a self-described connoisseur of peanut butter bacon burgers, I can say the "Sticky Burger" at Hubcap Grill absolutely measures up with the "Drew's Peanut Butter Bacon Burger" at Ted's Bulletin in Washington, DC. The addition of cheese is welcome and the bun, while large, is not overwhelming and complements the flavors nicely. Looking forward to visiting and enjoying the burger menu in the future!

Great food but it takes way too long. The kitchen is too small for the volume of business they try to do. Try it but go on an off time. Other reviewer is right no umbrellas or shade. They need a person to deliver food and bring drinks.

The burgers here are delicious... but not sure they're worth all the hassle. The place is located in the middle of nowhere in the Heights. There is a front and back patio, NEITHER OF WHICH IS DOG-FRIENDLY. There is a constant line formed at the window. If the weather is not fabulous, this makes for quite the miserable experience waiting in line. I waited 30 minutes before I could order and then ONE HOUR for the order to come out. I only ordered 2 burgers (a cheeseburger and a Texas BBQ burger) and fries, I can't imagine how long it takes for big groups of four or six to get their food. They play music on these loud speakers throughout the property, but other than that, there is nothing to do but wait and wait. It was boring and uncomfortable, I don't think I would go back just for those burgers.

Omfg. For being the self proclaimed burger queen that I am, I don't know why on earth I hadn't been here until recently. I've been missing out. I had the Frito Pie burger. It was my first Frito Pie experience. Each day I come closer and closer to being a true Texan. It was a game changer. They execute the art of beef between buns like nobody's business. Outdoor seating, down home--not really about the frills here. Just eating about eating a damn good burger in the backyard with the company of friends. Oh, and the beer selection is quite impressive as well.

Go on a pleasant evening and sit outside. The burgers are enormous and the fries taste great. If there's a wait, order 2-3 drinks at the window and just take your time while they bring your food. This easily my favorite place for burgers in town. I would recommend hubcap to anyone in the mood for a big greasy burger.

I had the triple heart clogger burger and was pretty dam good. A burger from this place will fill you for the whole day and have you leaving there like someone shot you in the jugular with a dart. Overall it's a tasty joint with crazy burger styles.

Been here a few times. The burgers are pretty tasty and good quality. The lady behind the counter is something of a cunt but I'm sure it has more to do with poor life choices than anything else. Get the buffalo fries and ways add an egg to the burger.

In my book this food was on point! Burger was full of flavor and French fries were the bomb.com ! I ordered buffalo fries and the Black and Blue Burger it's so delicious and atmosphere is great! Funky and upbeat, it's gonna be hot in the summer months though and there's no shade..(That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars )

Hubcap Grill is a great burger joint; they have a lot of unique burger combinations and also allow you to build your own. In addition they serve a large selection of craft beer with a majority of that selection being produced in the state. In addition they also bottle and serve their own lemonade, root beer, and cream soda which is a nice touch. A main thing for me when eating a burger is a like to choose how its cooked and the overall construction of the burger itself. I don't want to eat the damn thing with a fork. You will be doing that with the majority of the signature burgers you order here which for a lot of people isn't a bad thing. With that being said the portions of the burger that don't descend onto my plate are awesome. My favorite burger is probably the Greek Burger. I add sautéed mushrooms to it which I know just adds to the messy construction but I would already be eating it with a fork anyways so why not add to the madness? For me the real highlight of this place is its fries. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; Hubcap gives you a variety of toppings to choose from to add to your fries which you should do. I tend to favor the greek fries and stinky fries which is just vinegar and minced garlic. I highly endorse that you DO NOT verbally communicate, hug, smile, kiss, or come within 10 feet of another living creature after eating the stinky fries. You will melt their face clean off their body. The Greek fries come laced with a healthy dose of feta cheese and Hubcap special sauce which I think is some sort of combination of mayonnaise and ketchup? Not sure. It's good nonetheless. The service is quick, they are more often than not busy thanks to a recent Houston's top restaurant article which I believed ranked them like 8th in the city. The Hubcap Grill is a fun little neighborhood spot in the Heights area. They have another location downtown but if you want to avoid the shitty parking and constant construction of downtown Houston I would venture over to the Heights location instead.

Stopped by mid afternoon to try some chili cheese fries. I had a big breakfast and just was looking for a little something something to nosh on and try this place out. When I ordered the chili cheese fries and a water, I found out that I was 60 cents under their debit card minimum, and was asked if I'd like a bottled water so I'd be spending enough money for them to graciously take my payment. I said no thanks, I'd come back when I had a bigger order, but I won't be back. My first experience with your customer service will be my last.

We love Hubcap Grill. It's outdoor seating so that tends to limit our visits... But yesterday we ordered takeout since we live close. My friend and I both got the Cheetos burger and my husband got the Sticky burger and we were all happy. (If you order the Cheetos burger takeout, obviously bring it home fast so it doesn't get soggy.) I know from past occasions that the Frito pie burger is also amazing. Their various fries are pretty good but seems like the burgers are so large that getting the fancy fries is overkill. So definitely split with a friend or two or three if you really must have the fancy fries. If this place had more indoor seating then I'd give it five stars, but it's great for those rare nice days or cooler evenings.

If you are looking for a no-frills, honest-to-goodness burger joint with a solid juke box, look no farther, the 19th st location is your place. Make sure you have cash or a debit card....but just bring cash. This is a GREAT burger! 1/3lb chuck patty, great buns and more Specialty versions than you can imagine. We headed out the other night and went for the Black and Blue Burger with the Stinky Fries - threw in a few Shiners and an IPA for good measure; we could not have been happier. Even in the 103 dgree heat, we found plenty of shade, but there is a small indoor portion that is also available. But I would just stay outside to listen to Pearl Jam or Bowie and play washers - go figure.

I been seeing good reviews about Hubcap's burgers and wanted to try. But I live more than 35 miles from the Height location and I don't have the courage to deal with the downtown traffic / parking for that location. Today, my daughters talked me into going to the Height location for lunch and I am glad they did. We orderd the Muffletta, Black and Blue, Bacon cheese burger, and a side of Stinky Fries. The burgers were big and juicy. The beef patties had a brush of pink in the middle, just the way we like it. The Stinky Fries had small pieces of garlic with just the right amout of malt vinegar. The long trip was worth it. Bonus: I grew up in the Interloop Houston but my daughters grew up in the suburb and I decided to show them urban neighborhoods on the way home. They enjoyed their first trip through the Height neighorhood and Montrose. My high school age daughter now want to go to University of St. Thomas and live in the Height.

A friend told me about this place a few weeks ago, so I told her the next time we were both free....I wanted to. OH MY GOODNESS!! This little hidden place is freakin amazing! Those who gave it such poor reviews....I'm not quite sure what they were expecting, but I LOVED it! NO it is nothing fancy and if you're looking for a "white linen tablecloth experience" then this is not the place for you. Also....if you're looking for that "healthy option" again.....keep moving. This is a casual, come-as-you-are, get your hands dirty, type of place. I ordered the Texas BBQ and Hell Fries and washed it down with some Corona. The only small thing I did not care for were the extra chunky and long jalapenos....but that can definitely be overlooked! Whatever type of buns they use are simply amazing and can definitely withstand all of the goodness they pile into their burgers, whatever type of sausage they put into that burger was so flavorful and not greasy at all. The only thing I did dislike was the fact that we had to swat the flies away from our food since we sat outside. We got there around 5:30 on Saturday (8/24/13) and our burgers were ready in less than 10 minutes....the crowd did start to pick up the closer it got to the dinner hour. I will absolutely be returning in the near future! Again....if fancy and healthy is what you are looking for...you may want to try another location.

Freaking amazing burgers!! If you are in the Heights area and you are craving burgers, you need to try this place. We went there for the first time tonight and were really impressed. We ordered the double cheeseburgers, not realizing how big they were going to be. They do not skimp on the patty size here! The meat was spilling out of my bun and they perfectly cooked the burgers. They were juicy and dripping, just like I like them. We also got the Texas fries - topped with chili, cheese, fried onions, jalapenos and Krystal hot sauce - delish. They have a great selection of microbrews and they do have Coke in a bottle. In addition, someone picked a great line up on the jukebox, so while we watched a little of the Astros game and waited for our food, we got to listen to the likes of SRV and Duran Duran. We will definitely be back.

Best burger ever! The buns were perfect and the meat was even better! Has to be the best burger I have had in Houston!

I was excited to try this place, after reading all the reviews. Overall it was a very greasy mediocre burger. The service was boarding on rude. When asking for water, she pointed to bottled water and said "that's it". After finishing my guacamole burger (which was basically an overdone burger with mass produced guacamole sauce) my hands looked like I had dipped them in a can of crisco. With all the good burgers in Houston, I don't see why I would return here. (Well, maybe for a beer on the large outdoor patio)

Decent burger, good sweet potato fries which is what you would think you would want with this place. We arrived at 8pm took 16 minutes in line to place order where we were told they had no regular fries. Received our order at 912. There were ten peoples order in front of us. It shouldn't take 56 minutes for a burger and no real fries. In the mean time they ran out of bottle water, tap water isn't an option. The ketchup reached ambient temperature which was around ninety degrees. long lines prevented multiple trips for beverages which is needed since no buckets available. Decent beer selection. Wouldn't go back not worth the time it takes. The burgers are not in the top five best burgers in Houston. Maybe the top fifteen.

19th Street Location Terrible service... filthy inside and out... food was not worth the money... My husband and I have been wanting to try the Hubcap Grill on 19th street as we heard the downtown location is so delicious... We finally went yesterday at 4pm and were surprised it was not very busy. We asked if we could sit inside the the girl taking our order laughed and said well, if you can find a table, so, I looked inside to see nothing but empty filthy tables. As we were ordering I asked for the Greek burger without a few of the items and she laughed again, shook her head, and bent over in disgust then asked me to tell her what I want on the burger rather than what I don't want on the burger! One of the items I asked not to be on the burger was tomato and when I got my burger it had tomato on it along with a sauce that tasted very much like BBQ sauce. We asked for regular fries and were told it would take an hour or longer for regular fries and all they had were sweet potato fries so we figured we'd try them. When we got our fries they looked old and were cold. We had to wipe down the table before we sat down as every table was completely dirty and the trash can inside and out was overflowing. Outside there was trash all over the grounds. I wondered if this is what the kitchen was like. I definitely will not be going back or recommending this burger place. I tried to find an email option to email the company, but there is not one available on their website. Wish I had enjoyed as much as everyone else did :(

Crazy options for topping a great homemade burger. Be prepared to pack on some pounds after one of these!

I believe Public Enemy said it best; "Don't believe the hype." We were so excited to support a neighborhood eatery, but left thoroughly disappointed. The meat was dry and lacking flavor. If your meat sucks in a hamburger, you've already lost the war. Seating was fun. But I could got to another neighborhood joint and get much better food and sit outside in the parking lot, and still have a better food experience than this place.

I must say I don't understand what the excitement is about Hubcap. Food took over 45 minutes to come out and all I ordered was a bacon cheese burger and fries. Bun was too soggy from the grease and fell apart after a couple of bites. They seem to be offering too many options with too few employees which is why it took so long to come out. Cheetos and fritos on the burger itself? Flashback to elementary school. No thank you.

Short The sign is the menu - "Burgers, Fries, Beer" - if you need more, then this is not your stop Likes Simple approach, burgers done right Let Downs No real dining area In its own right: 3 stars (they lack outdoor tables, chairs and shade) Service - 4 Food - 4 Value - 3 Compared to peers: 3.5 stars Details The Hubcap Grill and Beer Garden is an off shoot of the original on Austin St. in downtown. Its a really good burger, juicy, seasoned well, cooked correctly with just enough bun to hold things together. I've said it before, a burger ain't about the bun, its about the patty and Hubcap understands that completely. They also don't dance around trying to sell chicken tenders or meat loaf sandwiches or ice cream. It's just burgers, fries and beer. You can, of course, get all the usual trimmings and a few you won't find at a fast food joint. But its really all about the burger, literally. The one disappointment was the dining experience itself. They do have a small indoor dining room, but it certainly seems like an after thought. There are picnic tables and umbrellas scattered in front of the walk up order window. And even though they have an excellent selection of beers and old school rock playing on the PA, I can't imagine eating there in the summer (or winter). In fact, probably half the patrons we saw all got carry out orders. With the ability to serve such a large selection of beers, I was hoping they would be a little more accommodating to the customer experience. That is, at least rising to the level of an ice house or similar. We were hoping to find a place that we could bring a group of friends, namely a car club. It's not out of the question, but they would need to provide a lot more shade, fans and tables with chairs. But if you want a really good burger and nothing else matters, this is the place to get it.

I took my wife there a couple of weeks ago for lunch, we'd read good reviews about it and thought it would be fun to try. Very dissapointing - let me be clear, the hamburgers were good, NOT great, just good;...but enough greese on anything can make it taste good I guess and there was plenty on our burgers (I had the jalepeno burger and my wife a cheeseburger). However the french fries had no taste and weren't even hot (ordered the hot/chilli fries). The manager was a real horses ass as well - we asked if they served wine (it states on Yelp that they serve beer and wine) and were told flatly that they do not serve wine, never have....Ok, no big deal. I told the server that it states that they do serve wine on the internet and the "manager" came out and told me that was not true! We ate our burgers, some of our fries and left - no way coming back and wouldn't advise anyone else to. If this place is rated as one of Houston's best hamburger joints, it's dissapointing.

Really great burgers, so many options! I had the sliders. All they had on them was cheese and grilled onion, but man were they yummy! Loved the outdoor seating. We hang out in the back where there was plenty of open space for the kiddo to run around and no one else sitting to bother. They carry a wide variety of beers as well.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while. We hardly ever eat burgers out, but after noticing the menu mentioned cheetos and frito pie on burgers I was enticed.... We went on the Saturday before Halloween around 7pm and the place was dead. Maybe it was the cooler weather, maybe it was because everyone was attending costume parites who knows, so we got a picnic table in the front. First...awesome beer selection! Second, everything sounds super tasty! It was so hard to pick what I wanted but ended up with the Cheetos burger and the hubby got the frito pie burger and we shared a side of county fries (fries with white gravy and bacon pieces). Holy deliciousness, the food was good. I didn't even get to try the Frito burger because the hubby scarfed it down so fast. He said it was one of those burgers that once you picked it up you had to hang onto it so I didn't fall apart! I did get to sop up some of the chili and it was good and SPICY! My cheetos burger was crazy tasty, just wish it would've had more cheese sauce on it. But now I'm definitely gonna have to try putting Cheetos on my burgers at home. The fries were good as well, home cut, skin on and come on, almost anything taste better smothered in white gravy =) So happy I finally got to try this place, we will definitely go back. Need to venture around the back to check out the cornhole.

We had an order filled incorrectly and the owner practically told me I was an idiot and told me they did not get it wrong. He was so very, very rude and obviously did not care about a customer. I was totally floored that this guy that claims to be the owner but is actually the owner's son Ricky Craig would talk to me like that. It must be hard to be stuck working at a burger joint all day long and seems to have made Ricky very bitter. The food is very good but we will never go back and will tell everyone we know what an awful person this guy is. I must add that this jerk, Ricky Craig actually had the audacity to CALL me and chew me out threatening me with an attorney, etc. Customer Service at this place simply and totally does not exist.

Tons of Hoppy Beers and Frankenstein Hamburgers! I have had the Sticky Monkey and The Hangover burgers.(get the hangover.... NOW) I have also had the Hell fries and the Stinky fries. No lack of creativity here. Love my Texas front porch hole in the walls.....

It's a good burger. Definitely, one of the better places in Houston. The outdoor only seating is something I enjoy. Burgers are priced nicely and 1 patty will do. Its a biggy and will leave you pregnant with burger in the end. The fries are yum. Check it out.
