My family and I were longtime loyal customers of the ma and pa barbecue joint down the street - Carl's BBQ - but ever since they sold the company and the quality and service went down, this Goode seems to be our new replacement. This Goode Co fits in perfectly with this side of town, as it has a play area for the rugrats, plenty of patio seating, and ample parking. In addition to that, the inside seating is plentiful, and it's made complete with a souvenir shop. They also host a variety of neighborhood fundraisers, which I'm all for. I appreciate the fact they offer turkey - I'm not always in the mood for red meat - which you can also get on your loaded baker. And just like any other Goode Co, splurge some calories on the jalapeno bread. For to-go orders - OPEN YOUR BAG AND DOUBLE CHECK. It's a hassle, but they've slightly messed up a few orders.

Passable as Texas BBQ, but just barely. The ribs were a bit tough and chewy, sausage was just meh, but on the plus side, the brisket was lean and tender. However, it was drowned in sauce that did its best to make up for the meat's shortcomings, but just couldn't quite get the job done. The baked beans were absolutely the worst I've ever had. Loaded with potato chunks... ugh. The best thing on the plate was the jalepeno bread. It was worth the price of admission.

Good portion sizes but the food is average BBQ for Houston. This is a good spot for a casual hang meal like an Olive Garden but not something you think of when you're looking for amazing BBQ. Normal service, nothing bad or good that stands out.

Love this place. Location are always well done and represent Texas. The Q is always spot on. I am a sauce guy and I love this place for it. Beef was very tender and not too over smoked. On after burp on snake hour later. Rice is very good also. I would put Goode at the top of my bar b que list.

Finally tried this place out but it was a bit disappointing. The food itself wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't recommend it because I think there are way better barbecue places (for a fraction of the price). We ended up getting the brisket plate, the loaded baked potato with spicy pork, and a sausage plate. The sides are good and the meat was just ok; I don't think there's anything special about this place other than the unique decor.

Dear Fellow Eater, How are you? Fine I hope. Do you like meat? Circle Y or N. Do you like pepper? Circle Y or N. Do you know how to sprinkle pepper on to meat. Circle Y or N. When you eat BBQ are you expecting better meat or better sides? Circle one. Sides or Meat. Now let us check your answers. If 3 of the answers above are "Y", then you are qualified to make Goode Company Barbeque right in your own kitchen. Just grab a pack of any meat and sprinkle pepper on it. Place in oven for about 1 hour OVER the normal cook time. Once all the moisture is out of your meat, add tomato sauce mixed with Worcester sauce for dipping. This will save you 75% of the cost of the same meat from this location. If you like sides over meat, then grab some sides from here to go and add to your home made peppered meat at home. Sigh. Simple. Just like the letters in grade school...simple. What the heck was I thinking! I was sad that the BBQ truck wasn't on Eldridge so with BBQ in mind I settled for this place, and already knowing that if you really want Goode Company Barbeque you MUST and I mean MUST ONLY go to the Kirby location. I don't even think this location makes meat here, but is just a "warm it up" facility. Now I have been here before under the same pressure and at least the BBQ chopped sandwich was okay. On this visit I ordered the Po Boy and Oh Boy what a mistake. Dried chopped beef inside hard french bread. Not even Po Boy bread. I also had a side of ribs and everyone knows that just about all cooked ribs look good... but taste is exactly as stated above.. pepper sprinkled on top. I so hoped that this location would have changed by now to mimic the one on Kirby. I simply don't understand how these big name BBQ places put so much money in their buildings and completely miss the food. If you are new to Houston and want to try real BBQ. I promise you that it's going to be a hard find if you visit any of the big names. Real Texas BBQ has never been made by a corporation, but by an individual. You need a hole in a wall BBQ "joint" not restaurant to experience Texas BBQ. As far as this location...pepper and meat is all they have to offer. There is no other taste but that here. Find a hole in the wall (not glory) and Prosper!

Below average barbecue at its finest! Hefty price tag and sauce that tastes like chef boyardee canned ravioli sauce. Steer clear fellow Texans. This is not goode barbecue! See what I did there?!?

One of the best parts of coming to Goode Company is for their famous pecan pie, and it is a yearly tradition to have one at our family gatherings. Famished from a long day at work plus last minute grocery shopping I decided to grab dinner at this particular location while getting a pie. The second best thing about Goode Company is their consistency in their foods. No matter this location, Kirby, or I-10 that I frequent, I can always count on the beef brisket, baked potato, coleslaw, and everything else on the menu to be OH-SO-GOOD! The staff at this particular place was very friendly - from the guy serving the meets to the register girl to the person busing the tables - each person had a smile on their face and seemed happy to be there. If you want some good ol' BBQ, you should try any Goode Company location!

First and foremost I have to add BBQ isn't in my blood I'm originally from the Northeast. My boyfriend is born and raised Texan and he loves this place so I gave it a try. When you pull up its a big rustic building with a huge porch with picnic tables and the option to eat outside , even has a sand area for kids! We opted to eat inside and it was really cool lots to look at memorabilia type things. It's cafeteria style I chose the brisket and turkey with two sides being cole slaw and pinto beans. My dinner came with a slice of jalapeño cheese bread it was so good. The brisket and the turkey were both very moist, the part that I liked the most was nothing was overly salty on the meats. The coleslaw was bland I feel it needed more flavor it was literally just like eating cabbage in my opinion. I swapped my pinto beans for my boyfriends potato salad and it was amazing. The BBQ sauce I wish was a little sweeter but this is coming from a girl who loves sweet baby rays . They have a condiment bar with pickles, onions, and jalapeños. I didn't have room for dessert but from what I hear they are famous for their pecan pie.

Not impressed... Now sauce tastes like grape jelly and not a fan of baked beans with apples. Portions are small for cost.

One of my absolute favorites for good BBQ. Many would argue that those hole in the wall, small locations have the best food but for a chain restaurant you can't beat a good brisket sandwich like Goode company delivers. No questions asked whatever entree you get the potato salad is a must have. I even got the brisket baked potato with a side of potato salad. Worth every penny for lunch and dinner you won't regret it.

When researching bbq restaurants to visit on our trip to Houston, Goode Co came up first. We were down at the outlet mall in Cypress and thankfully this restaurant was on the way back to Houston. It was easy to get to and there was a huge parking lot available (and empty on a Thursday at 2pm). We were warmly welcomed as we entered and were directed down to the entrance of the cafeteria line. I chose the two meat plate with brisket and turkey sausage, with potato salad and coleslaw. The cheese jalapeno bread is a unique touch and made for a tasty little brisket sandwich. The smoked brisket was amazing though there was another style of brisket on my plate that seemed baked and was odd. The turkey sausage was very juicy and delicious and I enjoyed the sides. The sauce I had served on the side was my favorite thing about the meal. It was like tomato soup with a touch of bbq sauce. I wanted it on everything. Until I read the ingredients list on the bottle in the gift shop after lunch and learned it contained pork. Which I don't eat. That was mildly horrifying and I'm not sure if I missed that being posted somewhere but would have loved to know so I could pass. That was a super downside to the meal. Overall, this place is good and I would recommend the turkey sausage. Just watch out for the delicious sauce if pork isn't your thing.

Was in Houston for a quick overnight and my hotel was right next to Goode's. The building looked fun and the smells coming over to the Homewood Suites were inviting so after checking Yelp and seeing decent reviews, decided to head on over. The inside had the AC jacked up and was cold more then cool. Did not bother me at all but was noticeable. The decor was fun, lots of historical Texas pictures, things for sale etc, was fun. Was there around 6:30 and place about half full, no one outside sitting due to the humidity. Got in line and it is a cafeteria style serving line. I chose the three meat plate with two sides so I could try the three TX BBQ standard, brisket-ribs and sausage. Guy serving was nice and asked if I wanted sauce on side or on meat. I of course wanted it on the meat and he laid it on nice and heavy. The meal also comes standard with a slice of jalapeño cheese bread. For sides a chose the Texas Jambalaya and cole slaw. I grabbed a Lone Star which was ice cold in the cooler and checked out. I was going to get a slice of Pecan Pie to go, but they did not have any in a container(only chocolate cream) and when I tried to make eye contact and address person behind the counter there, he kind of ignored me so I decided to skip it. Grabbed a seat in the back so I could view the restaurant, had a long pull from my Lone Star(beyond delicious...and best thing I had that night...sigh) and started my dinner. The brisket looked good, moist, good crust, not a lot of fat and good serving of it. The sausage looked good as well but the ribs looked dried out and they were, unfortunately. So, to sum it up, this meal was really disappointing with the real lack of taste and flavors across the board. From the meats, sauce, appetizer..really was not overly flavorful or tasty. The brisket felt good and right in my mouth but not very smoky or seasoned, just kind of there. The sausage was ok, but kind of meh and the ribs were dried up, not overly meaty and just made me sad. The BBQ did not enhance anything as it was not sweet, not spicy, not really...anything. Had an almost, ketchup taste to it. The sides were not much better, the TX Jambalaya, sounded interesting, but did not taste so and the cole slaw also was just kind of there. It was almost like a "taste vampire" came in and sucked most of the flavor and goodness out. The Jalapeño Cheese bread was soft, warm and reasonably good! So, I ate about 60% of my meat, half the sides and ALL my beer and left feeling pretty unfulfilled. On way back to hotel, I thought to myself,"Maybe it is me? Long drive from Austin, traveling so much for work, bit rundown feeling...maybe I am sick? Or some other issue with taste buds." So, I drove to Taco Bel, got 1 crunchy taco and it tasted just like a Taco Bell taco should taste, not my taste buds. I ate here a week ago and waited to right the review to see if my feelings or memories had changed. Unfortunately, I have had good BBQ...great BBQ(Franklins in ATX, Cooper's in Llano) and just OK BBQ, and Goode's is the latter. Hopefully your experience will be better then mine!

We have been going to Goode company for years. Over the years we've noticed that the quality has stayed the same but the amount you receive has lessoned yet the prices have increased. Today we got my daughter a double rib plate, there were 5 ribs, with an end piece. Ribs were actually 1 1/4 inches long. The kicker is they were very dry. Going to Carl's. Better yet cooking my own.

From the minute you grab the six shooter door handles, you know you are in for some authentic Texas style BBQ. I've eaten here a couple times and it is every bit as good as every Goode Co BBQ here in Houston. I ordered the loaded potato with sausage and it was fantastic. My son got the 3 meat platter and he loved everything. Even my 11 year old nephew plowed thru the brisket sandwich with a full size potato.

Suppa with the bride and kids last evening- Atmosphere- Totally righteous. Plenty of Texas historical artifacts, pictures, and stuff for sale too. Entertainment- Every Friday night 7-11. A guitar duo had some good sound out on the patio. Food- Plenty to choose from. Beef, chicken, duck (!!!), turkey - sausages, sandwiches, Po'Boys, plates and catering. The sauce had some bite, not much. The experience was nice (Good?), but much better BBQ in Memphis.

My favorite bbq joint/chain in houston, hands down. I'm addicted to bbq stuffed baked potatoes and Goode Company BBQ serves the best. I've had it at a few other places and they just don't hold a candle to this place. The meat portions are generous and the atmosphere is laid back. It's a nice place to sit down for a quick meal. Everyone here is really friendly and the bbq sauce is to die for. They even sell it for fiends like me who can't get enough. I highly recommend trying this place out and ordering a spicy pork stuffed baked potato, the ribs, and jalapeno sausage. The ribs have a nice smoke ring and all the meats are just juicy and tender. They offer a nice selection of sides, my favorite is the potato salad but there's also green beans and rice. They also have an amazing jalepeno bread, which you can order a whole loaf of.

This place is a pass for me. I enjoy the hell out of Texas BBQ, and there is simply no reason to settle for this place when there has to be better placed around. Small servings, ambiance that tries too hard to look authentic but comes off cheesy, and a price that doesn't match the flavor. Brisket was dry, pork was pointless, and the sausage was forgettable.

After I read the mixed reviews and the fact that my hotel is within walking distance, I thought I'd check it out. Like the other reviewers I agree it has a great Texas ambience but that's really the highlight of my experience. I had the three meat combo which included brisket, baby back ribs and chicken. This included two side dishes and I chose the barbecue beans and the potato salad. I was pleasantly surprised with the barbecue beans which they add green apples to. The potato salad was okay but sometimes it's hard to screw up potato salad. The brisket and the ribs were very dry and almost too smoky. Out of all three meats, I would say the chicken was the best. The barbecue sauce was the worst part about it, was almost like a runny ketchup with not much flavor to it and it definitely did not complement any of the meats. The total bill including tip was $27, that included small meat portions and a beer. .......In the land of barbecue this was mediocre at best.

How is this place only 3 stars?? The food is fantasic. Get yourself a two meat plate with moist brisket and jalapeno sausage (sub ribs if you don't like spicy). Add a side of jambalaya and the superb Austin baked beans. The sides here have been crafted with pride and creativity. If you want a meal that tastes like every other BBQ place in Texas, then this isn't for you. If you prefer plain white bread to their moist fluffy jalapeno cheese bread, you probably shouldn't review food... ever. The only reason they don't get 5 stars in my book is the price. If you're not going to have a wait staff, there's really no reason I should be paying $2-3 more per plate than places like Rudy's, Spring Creek or It's Ribs. And please stop using the receipts with a prominent spot for tips. It makes you look greedy and me feel cheap.

My husband and I are trying to cut down on our meat intake. He more than I to the point that when we came here with my extended family, he only ate the coleslaw and some cornbread (poor guy). As for me, I ended up eating my meat quotient for the year. Obviously, the lack of eating on the part of my husband did not affect my rating. This place is standard Texas BBQ and that means meat, meat and more meat. Personally, I would like to eat more than just meat at a place, but it is what it is. And the meat was delicious. They had BBQ duck. Duck! Couldn't resist that and ended up with half a duck all to myself. My husband had the smallest piece of duck breast and my brother in law scored a drumstick. Save for that, I ate nearly all of it myself. Did try a bite of the brisket off of my son's plate. Very good with a nice smoke ring. This seems like authentic Texas BBQ to me. Sides were very good as well with the only failing that almost all of them seem to be made with more meat except for the coleslaw. The baked beans had ham in them and the Austin baked beans (my sister gave me a bit) were made with brisket. Those were amazing. I also ordered green beans thinking to give something to eat to my husband. They were also cooked with ham and he wouldn't touch them. He tries to especially avoid preserved meats due to the nitrites. Since Texas BBQ is all about the meat and since that was delicious, I'll give them 4 stars. My sister also ordered the pecan pie and I had a bite. Really good pecan pie too. The only failing of the restaurant was the lack of beef ribs on the menu. Seriously! No ribs in a BBQ place? But the inclusion of duck on their menu made up for it.

If you enjoy disgusting spicy pork with poor service, dead animals staring at you as you try to convince yourself you can actually eAt the food, then this is the place for you! If you also like to be robbed by blind, this is the place for you. On a positive note the bread is not bad.

No and No.....I don't understand this BBQ thing at all in Texas. Ribs and brisket should be juicy and about to fall off the bone. I paid $62 for two 3 meat combos (ribs, brisket and sausage) comes with two sides and bread. I also 2 lemonades and 2 slices of pecan pie. Now on the combo you only get two pieces of ribs so we asked for more which was a half a pd for an extra $9.....wtf extra $9 and it was only two more ribs....never again!!! They gave us a ticket so I thought maybe they were bringing more out....No it was just to pay for the two extra bones. The sauce had no taste at all. I was really sad bc I was hungry. The bread wasn't even fully cooked to my liking at all it was between stale and undercooked. The potato salad was bland as well. At this point I'm pissed that nothing has taste with or without sauce. We were really looking around and looking crazy wondering if anybody else is tasting this. Total waste of my hard earned money. Only reason this got 2 stars was because the Pecan Pie was awesome and the customer service from the cooks to the cashier to the waiter were nice! But never again!!!!

I love this Goode Company location. The service is always friendly. The BBQ is very good and the sauce is good to. Granted, there is a couple of spots out there that I like better, but there are many that do not come close to Goode Company. I would happily take anyone here for dinner! Goode company rates four stars. Pretty damn GOODE! PS - They have live music now and then too! It makes the BBQ even better!

Dry, dessicated, and not very much taste. Ends up being $20 for 2 meats and a cream soda. No specifically bad, but not very good. Especially for the price. This may be authentic, but if it is I don't want authentic.

2/14/2013 11:32am - I don't know how Levi does it. He has managed to deliver real pit barbecue smoke and flavor without a real pit. If you do not know anything about Texas barbecue, Goode Company is a surefire recommendation to your out of town friends. I scored Goode Co an 88 out of 100. This is Reserve Grand Champion Barbecue. Smoke: Mesquite. Famous for his stacks of mesquite. However at this location the stacks are small and there are two rotisserie exhaust vents in the back. I have learned that the real smoking and cooking is done off site at some double secret "commissary" and its delivered out here and finished. 5/16 in smoke ring and full smoke flavor are dead ringers for real pit barbecue but there is NO PIT! A total mystery (solved). I am aware of custom made rotisseries where wood is the only heat source (the Olyer). If that is the case here (it is, Olyer lists Goode Co as a cleint), then this is real pit barbecue. However, it would take a forest to supply all three locations everyday (not with an Olyer). Just don't know how Levi does it. Brisket: Excellent. A respectable 5/16in smoke ring with thin bark. Nearly perfect snap apart tender. No knife needed here. Full mesquite smoke flavor beefy goodness. Could not detect a rub. Levi Goode could be the Henry Ford of Texas barbecue. How can he deliver mass produced brisket this good? Ribs: Excellent. Very tender with soft bite, clean bone and slight crust. Overall flavor is dominated by full mesquite smoke porky goodness with a slight rub. Can't put them down. No sauce needed. Sausage: Very Good. Coarse ground pork/beef sausage with traditional spice flavor. A respectable peppery aftertaste. Little grease. Descent smoke aroma. No sauce needed. Sauce: Good. Never been a fan of the sauce. It has a spaghetti sauce-like texture. Tomato base, butter, drippings, and smokey bits of barbecue. There is a noticeable bitterness to this sauce. It does not enhance the flavor of the barbecue so I usually quit using it half way through my meal. Use it sparingly and GET IT ON THE SIDE!! The jalapeno cheese bread is a slice of heaven.

If you like your meat tougher and so smoked you can't tell what the meat itself tastes like then this is the place to go. There are atleast 3 other BBQ places nearby that are better and offer tastier sides. I would have given it 1 star but the pecan pie is so good it deserved its own star.

Burping it up a good 24 hours later....impressive. I somehow tricked myself into trying them another couple of times and have now tried most of the meat options. Somehow it's worse than a couple of the local gas chamber BBQ joints. Everything is bland on smoke and flavor. I ordered moist brisket and got some of the leanest brisket I've seen. To defend them the kid working the register seemed dumbfounded when I ordered moist brisket.....sausage was tough and had little smoke. The duck was almost inedible. Not too mention spent over 30 bucks just to get half pound of each. But remember they use all real mesquite. Lol. They forget to tell you mesquite is the cheapest wood around and that most good BBQ places only use wood. And are way cheaper. But I guess with all the gas chamber joints around they feel superior. Skip this place and check out other places around.

I came here for lunch with my wife. The ribs were good. The service was good. The ambience was relaxing and inviting; kind of like an old country bar. Like I said, I got the ribs with 2 sides. The potato salad was good. The corn was "interesting." It had bits of meat in it. Regardless, I liked it. Then there's the jalapeño bread... My wife got the brisket sandwich which she described as "Tasty." Now, I am headed home to take a nap. ¡Adios!

Ehhhhh... Not much to it - overpriced small portions, no traditional white bread. We went because they had duck and as a girl from New York I LOVE duck but Goode Co left me very disappointed :(. Their duck is tiny , expensive , and overly seasoned. And boy are they slow ! We ordered chicken fingers for our daughter and it took nearly 30 minutes ! Next time we'll stick to Rudy's .

My wife and I stumbled along this Goode's while on our way to The Outlets. I'll preface this review by saying.. I dislike cafeteria style bbq places . . . We pushed ourselves thru the mess-line and came out with a po-boy with spicy pork and chopped brisket and sauce, a spicy pork sandwich and 2 sides of corn. About $19 total. So we will start with the corn... The corn was a little different from what I've had of late, but it was very good. My wife's spicy pork sandwich was enjoyed, she had no complaints. My brisket was good, cooked pretty well with good flavor. The pork was good as well, cooked well and chopped.. Could have chopped a little finer, but no complaints here. MY COMPLAINT - The 'bbq sauce' sucks. It's like a thick, mariana sauce with minimal flavor.. What are they thinking? I much rather have some kraft hickory smoke bbq sauce from wal-mart.. The atmosphere is like all other bbq places down here.. animal hanging from the walls with trinkets and wood everywhere. It's also cafeteria style, which is always a negative in my book... That with the nasty bbq sauce makes this a 3.5 star, which I rounded up because I'm feeling generous today and liked the meat.

A few years ago I had a not so great experience at another Goode BBQ place in Houston and have been hesitant to return. I was headed out of Houston back to Austin and found myself craving BBQ and this was the next BBQ place that appeared on the horizon. I had the ribs, turkey and brisket. Ribs - well smoked and seasoned. Turkey - moist and good seasoning. Brisket - Good crust and smoke ring. I would return again anytime and was glad to replace a subpar experience with a good one. I also like that they sell uncooked meat in the fridge area and the decorations at this place are awesome. It's also cool they will smoke your meat if you drop it off here - wow!

When I first moved to Texas, I really liked Goode Company, but have since discovered there are a plethora ("Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?") of much better BBQ establishments. However, as a Houston institution, you must try at least once. I enjoy the brisket with jalapeno cheese bread with tons of sauce (otherwise the brisket is dry and rather tasteless) and a Shiner Bock. The smoked turkey is pretty popular too. I've never had much luck with the sides. Hit the place for a quick lunch and pass on the sides. Goode Company is solid BBQ fare if you want to entertain out of towners. However, this location is not as good (so far) as the main location on Kirby. Good(e), but not great.

I try and get BBQ every time I visit Texas. While New Orleans may be known for great food, our BBQ choices are nothing compared to Texas. I had been to this Goode Co. location, and the downtown location on previous trips and always enjoyed their food. This trip I ordered to-go food, and it was great. I opted for the sliced brisket, jalapeno sausage and ribs. For sides I got the potato salad and baked beans. I called ahead to order, and the server was very friendly and even offered to bring the food to my car when I arrived (curbside delivery). I arrived and the food was delivered as promised. During the drive back to the house I was teased by the delightful aroma of smoked meat. When I finally arrived at the house, I tasted the beans. Holy mackerel. These beans were unlike any I have ever had. There was tomato, potato, onions and peppers mixed in with bits of what seemed to be brisket. They were phenomenal. My dining companion absolutely hated them, so I was able to get more. The meats were tender, smoky and flavorful. You can not get BBQ like this in NOLA. The sauce that came on the side was very thick and had the consistency of spaghetti sauce. It was very good, but very different from most sauces I have had before. Goode Co. is great BBQ. I will keep it on my list of must go to places whenever in Houston.

They have the worst excuse for BBQ sauce of any place Ive ever been. It taste like marinara sauce. I had a sliced beef sandwich that wasn't as lean as I'd prefer. My wife had a 2 meat plate with the same beef and the turkey with a side of beans and coleslaw. She didn't like the turkey and thought the beans and coleslaw were bland. I would not go back. Rudy's beats them on every metric.

2 meat combo - brisket and jalapeño sausage with Austin baked beans and rice. My wife had a chicken salad. The salad came with 4 fairly small strips of chicken and what seemed as an entire head of lettuce for $12+. The chicken was great. All 8 bites. The brisket looked like it had a great smoke to it, but was tasteless. If not for the BBQ sauce, I could have made the same flavor on a frying pan. Sausage was pretty good. Definitely spicy. It tasted like spicy BBQ sauce. Baked beans had apple in it, I think. Plus was seemed to me as liquid smoke fake flavor. Worst beans I've ever had. The rice wasn't bad and the cornbread was jalapeño loaf. They do offer unlimited pickles, onions, jalapeños, lemon and lime. All for $36 with a couple drinks. Very cool decorating as a hunters lodge. Great game is displayed as well as Texas memorabilia. But I'll never go back.

While visiting family in Houston, we had to get some BBQ. After some deliberation, we decided to pay a visit to Goode Company BBQ. I ordered up the two meat platter with brisket and sweet water duck, Austin Baked Beans, and potato salad. The brisket was good, the duck was very good, the beans were good, and the potato salad was excellent. However, the reason that Goode's was just OK for me was the BBQ sauce. It was pretty mediocre and oddly closer to a thin marinara than BBQ sauce. Weird. The did enjoy the atmosphere and ample covered outdoor seating. Overall, not bad if you are in the area, but not worth driving far (which we did all the way from Spring).

So, Goode BBQ huh? hmm.. not very goode for me, sorry. I had the BBQ dinner plate, which was beef brisket and two sides. What arrived was something out of the desert: they managed to remove whatever moisture was in the brisket, giving it the consistency of near beef jerky. It was smoked, yes, but somehow lost all of its moisture. Even the sauce, which was quite nice, was immediately soaked up into the meat and STILL it was dry. Speaking of dry, the beans: dry undercooked beans, with perhaps no taste to them whatsoever. The potato salad was kind of tasteless, and needed something else -- maybe more salt. Overall, the inside of this place is a RIOT -- there were more deer and cattle heads than I've seen in a hunting chalet in Europe. Not sure why people think they have to display mounted heads of Elk and deer while you eat your lunch. Anyway, save your $$'s and go somewhere else nearby -- it wasn't worth the trip here for the Q.

If this review was based solely on the atmosphere, it would get 5 stars. I felt like I was at a hoedown. They had a band playing on a trailer in front of the restaurant with picnic tables around. The restaurant has tons of charm, and you really feel like you should be wearing cowboy boots. The food wasn't great. We were there for an event and had turkey, ribs, beans, and this jalapeno cheddar bread. The only thing I really enjoyed was the turkey. The ribs were tough and the bread had an odd flavor. I went back to out hotel and snacked on stuff because I didn't eat much of the food at the table. It was conveniently located next to our hotel, and if I'm ever back in Texas, I may come for drinks and live music.

When you are feeling Goode in the hood, a bit on the outskirts of Houston proper, you might be desiring some barbecue. Unfortunately, an odd phenomenon takes place when partaking in smoked meat that has turned itself into a chain in such a city as Houston: the experience begins to lack character. This satellite location of Goode Company Barbecue does not offer anything that you cannot find at the others, but the sole fact that it exists for 'cue eating purposes for the rural folks provides the only comfort. The outlet it allows the barbecue fiends barely makes up for its pretty poor quality. Specifically, the brisket falls flat. Asking for moist, I found my sliced cattle chest to pale in comparison to pretty much every other piece of moist beef I have ever ground in between my pearls. Additionally, the sweet and sour nuances of the red sauce did not blend; rather, they both stuck out like sore thumbs, with no blending whatsoever. But, I will attest to Goode being an OK source for catering and large parties. Other than that, I would not dare to recommend the meat to you.

bought a smoked turkey for thanksgiving. When I ordered it they said it was 10-11 lbs. Got it home and opened the box. Looked like a medium sized chicken. Weighed it - 6lbs. Suggest caution if you consider buying a turkey from them as they clearly don't deliver what they promise. Will take it back to see if I can get one that matches what I expected. Wanted to add - when I spoke to the manager, I found out that they do not smoke turkeys in the restaurant. They order them from a supplier. With that, I feel like I might as well buy one at a grocery store since in both cases they are done somewhere else. Over priced, under sized, and not even locally cooked.

Do you enjoy overcooked meat? Do you enjoy "bbq" sauce that is just peppered tomato sauce? Do you enjoy being over chaged for horrible food? If you answered yes to any of these then THIS IS YOUR PLACE! I would have given it a half star if I could. However I am stuck with one star. The atmosphere is awesome! But it stops there. They have two things on the kids "menu". A ham and cheese or a turkey sandwich. awesome choices man. I have been to the Kirby location multiple times and love it. This place is horrible. My brisket was so badly over cooked it was dry. How can you mess up a brisket? My sausage was almost all fat and the "bakes beans" tastes like candied apples. Disgusting. I wish I had something great to say because we don't have any good BBQ in the area. However, I will just say visit the kirby location.

This was not Goode! I had my family in town and I over ruled a trip to Rudy's to go here. What a mistake and bad decision. My family let me hear about it all day long! They did not like any of the food, the best of the dishes was average. BBQ sauce is runny and tasteless, bbq beans bland, jalapeno pinto beans - where's the jalapeno. I will stop running the place down but Rudy's would have made my family much happier. I have to believe there are many better choices in town than this.

Don't waste your time and your money going to this place. The prices are painted in the wall, and guess what? No prices for the drunks. I asked for a small soft drink for my wife, and the price was $3,75! For what we were charged for our meal at this outfit we could have eaten much better a steak restaurant in the neighborhood: Texas Roadhouse, on HWY 290 and HWY 6. The BBQ was skimpy and dry. Burned outside. Pappas Bros. BBQ offers a much better and moist BBQ, with larger portions for the same prices all over Houston. I will NEVER patronize this place or any Goode Co. Restaurant.

For the price there is Far better BBQ places up the 290! BBQ sauce was horrible and the sides weren't much better.

My husband and I ate here today and it was horrible! The service was ok, I'll give them that but the food is not good. The bbq sauce reminded me spaghetti sauce. I've seen a lot of people rave about it so maybe we caught them on a bad day. The meat was dry and the sides lacked seasoning. We will definitely not be going back. For the price we paid and the quality we received I would not recommend this place.

Bought BBQ brisket to take out for dinner, and it was very good-very tender brisket! I enjoyed being able to shop a bit for gifts for future hosts the next adventure on our travels.I would have to agree with fellow yelpers about the sauce-a spaghetti sauce taste. I would request a sauce different from the original next time. Brisket is worth the 4 stars! Shame on me for not trusting my fellow yelpers!!

After moving to San Diego... I couldn't find any good brisket anywhere... so when I got back to Texas for a wedding... I asked my cousin and he took me to this bbq place... the brisket was awesome.. totally hit the spot =) jalapeno beans were pretty good, and the jalapeno bread was also good... So my recommendation: 1. brisket 2. jalapeno beans for the sides 3. sausages (according to my friends)

I have been a fan of Pappa's BBQ for years but have always heard good things about Goode Company BBQ. As my out of town guests and I passed by the other day, we decided to stop here for great Texas BBQ. Boy, was I wrong. I am not going to say it was bad BBQ but the sauce was horrible. The BBQ sauce could best be described as "almost spaghetti sauce". I was so embarrassed that I brought my guests here. They did like the great, Texas decor and jalepeno bread. The actual meat was good but the sauce is what makes it and it was horrible. If you like dry BBQ, then this would be good. If you want good sauce, go to Pappas's BBQ. If you do want to show off crazy, Texan decorations...this would be a good place. If you can kill it, they can mount it. I just wished they served some of the game that is on the walls and shelves. Now that might make up for the sauce! I didn't get to try the pie that so many people have been raving about. I kinda wish I would have tried it. :(

I was seeking BBQ today and stumbled upon this place. I was in the mood for a good BBQ fix and was very disappointed. For starters, the sauce was awful, it was extremely thick and lacked any flavor what so ever. When the guy asked me if I wanted sauce he was pouring it on as he was asking so I got sauce even though I didn't want any. I am not a fan of sauce, I think the meat should speak for itself. If I have to use sauce it means the meat is terrible. The brisket had a good smoke ring on it and little smoke flavor. I would have expected more smoke flavor with a smoke ring like that. The sausage was just bad. It had a very strong flavor. I want to say it was garlic but not 100% sure. Whatever it was , it overpowered the meat 10 fold. Now on to the part that really made me sick. $17 for a 2 meat plate and a small drink. Are you kidding me!!!!! I have never had BBQ in Houston before and if this is indicative of the normal price I am sure I won't be eating much BBQ around here. That price is way out of the normal for most BBQ joints in Texas. Needless to say that was my first and my last visit to Goode Company BBQ

Tried out this place for the first time with my family. I ordered chicken and brisket, which came with two sides. I chose green beans salad and potato salad. The chicken was very soggy and wet inside; When I do barbeque at home, my chicken turns out white inside and full of chicken. The one is here is bones wrapped in a thin slice of soggy pink chicken, beyond gross. I didn't really care for the brisket, have had more flavorful ones at other places. The beans salad was extremely peppery, just from glancing at it you could see it was covered in black pepper. It had pieces of soggy bacon which did not even have any bacon flavor, don't know why they were even in the salad. My wife had the chicken and sausage. She didn't really eat much. For 3 people, we spent 50 dollars. For that money, we could have made an amazing barbecue at home and fed all of our friends as well.

Ate lunch here today. I hadn't eaten at a Goode Company in about 15 years, but had a lunch meeting at the Northwest Houston location. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I had a two meat combo platter, with brisket and jalapeno sausage, with two sides and bread. The brisket was moist (good), but was borderline flavorless. I may be crazy, but I like my brisket to be a little....smoky. Very disappointing. The sausage was slightly better, but still was rather bland, and the texture was a little TOO smooth -- more like lunch meat than sausage. As for their sauce...some sauces can taste great, but obscure or overwhelm the flavor of the meat. This sauce obscured, but didn't taste particularly good (to my tastes) -- a bad combination. I'd skip the sauce entirely next time. The sides (jambalaya and green beans) were okay, but very oversalted. All in all, a very surprising trip. I'll give them another chance in the future (on reputation alone), but given the prices, they've got a hill to climb. There are a number of area BBQ joints I would choose over Goode Company at this point.

It isn't the original Goode Company on Kirby that I grew up with, but I love the fact that they have/are venturing out (outside the loop). It's a bit pricey--I'm always amazed at the total when paying....but the food is ALWAYS good. I love the sauce, I buy it by the bottle for home use. And the potato salad and pinto beans are terrific. To me, you can't go wrong.

The name sums it up, good barbecue. Not the best I've had but good enough I'd go back. They have the typical barbecue sides of baked beans, corn with peppers and sausage, and potato salad. The sides are underwhelming as is the barbecue sauce. The star of my dinner was the brisket, ham, and jalapeno cheese bread. The bread is thick and spongy, perfect for sopping up leftover barbecue sauce. The brisket is fall-apart tender and has an incredible smoky taste. The ham is juicy with a smoky-sweet taste that makes you feel like it's Easter Sunday.

I know lots of people love Goode Co Barbeque but I don't get it. There are many places nearby that are much better such as Harris County, Carl's, Spring Creek, etc. I understand they boil the brisket. The sides are just mediocre at best.

Came here for a Father's Day lunch today. It's a spacious restaurant with, er, interesting yet typical decorations for a BBQ place. Some of those decorations included a few deer, cow, and buffalo heads along with some stuffed chickens and a rattle snake, if that doesn't work up an appetite I don't know what will, right? Now for the food, you stand in line and order your food cafeteria style. My two sisters and I had their stuffed baked potatoes. The chopped brisket in the potatoes was a bit dry and lacked flavor. My dad had their ribs and after trying his, I have to say the ones he cooks himself are better. My mom tried their sweet water duck just to be different, which she actually enjoyed. Overall we all thought the food was mediocre and weren't impressed. Not sure what is missing here exactly, but so far it seems their Kirby and Katy locations are receiving better ratings.

Goode Co. delivered yet another amazing brisket poboy. Though I prefer the tiny Kirby location, this is a great addition to the northwest Harris County area. I love their BBQ sauce so much. I love how nice everyone is who works there. True to Texas!

We never leave houston without stopping at Goodes. The decor is amazing. the stuffed buffalo heads and and beautiful ornate wooden stair case. You know you're in a good place when there is real wood stacked up outside for the smoker. All their smoked meats are amazing. the green beans are incredible - the baked beans have little chunks of apples and sausages. so good. Everything is fresh and homemade. Its such a great place. Don't visit houston without eating here. This is real Texas BBQ at its best.

Burger was good, fries were good, brisket was a little cold and dry but had lots of flavor. Probably due to being pre cut and just sitting on a cutting board. The brisket was definitely better than Rudys. I would come back, but it isn't the best I've had. Staff was friendly and helpful.

FANTASTIC!!! I love BBQ but haven't had that much luck with it in Texas, until now. Goode company is all that you want and expect. The smoky bbq smell wafting into the parking lot, the rustic atmosphere and outdoor porch, and then the classic decor with heads mounted everywhere and cowboy/country memorabilia hanging. It really puts you in the mood. We were a little confused when we walked in from the parking lot b/c we walked into the end of the line. All served cafeteria style plastic tray and all, you grab a drink and then look at the menu on the wall to see what you want. then tell the guys behind the counter. I had the duck, brisket and pork ribs. First of all, floored they had duck!! i'd never seen that for bbq before, and i LOVE duck. The selection of meats were wide, at least 10. you get your sides and bread and who could resist a piece of pecan pie. going down the line i realized they had sweet tea and fountain drinks, so i ran back down the line to put my bottle back. Note to the restaurant, might be a good idea to mention that there's other drinks at the beginning, or place them all together. Prices for all was reasonable and we all sat down at a square table with country music playing. Everything was juicy and cooked just right. My only complaint was that the brisket could use a little salt. Kinda bland. Pecan pie was so good i bought a whole one to bring back to those who didn't join us. This is one BBQ place i'll recommend to anyone that is in the area. I'm dreaming of the duck as we speak.

On the way back to the city from a very successful outlet mall shopping trip we decided to stop at Goode's since the food court at the mall is all greasy food. I love how this place looks and feels. You drive up and see a huge weathered looking water tower with their logo on it. There are multiple patios with picnic tables and rocking chairs. There is also a little play around for the kids so the parents can relax. When you walk in you have to get through the maze of tables to find the line where you order. It takes a little while to read the menu to decide what you want. I decided on the turkey baked potato with a slice of jalapeno cheese bread. The potato came loaded with tons of their turkey piled on top. Josh got the brisket and sausage with jambalaya and potato salad. He had the BBQ sauce poured on top. He thought the sauce was different from the Rice Village Goode's but still good. They have a cinnamon chocolate milk shake that I will need to try one day. The beer selection is ok. They don't have any on draft but have a pretty large selection in bottles. The decor inside is just what you would expect. Deer heads and other Texas memorabilia and I love it! There is also a little shop on the inside with T-shirts and cook books that you can buy. They also have meat you can buy and take home and cook. Not sure I would do that... since they have already cooked meat also, but to each their own! You can also buy meat by the pound to take home to your family. I believe you can also buy the side dishes by quart or pint. I can see this as a great place to come on Sundays, sit on the patio, eat BBQ and drink some beer.

One of the best barbecue joints in Houston. Most dinners served with one-of-a-kind jalapeno cheddar bread. Another original is the Austin baked beans, which is a must try. Excellent sausage, potato salad, and sauce. Brisket is par for the course. Have had the ribs once and they weren't very tender. There is usually live music on Friday nights. The atmosphere and decor is terrific setting for a Texas barbecue dinner.

We were looking for some late night (OK, late night for a Sunday night) BBQ -- it was almost 9pm, and Carl's was closed, so we decided to head to Goode's, which is less than two miles from our house, and happened to be open until 10pm. This would be the second time I visited Goode's. The first was back in May, when I was here for a job interview. The folks at the college I was interviewing for took me out here, and I thought this place was pretty neat. However, I didn't remember much about the food, because I was all nerve-wracked from the actual interview process. So while I had been here before, I wasn't really in "Yelping" mode at the time. Arriving at 9:15pm, the place was empty but for one lone diner sitting in the middle of the place. We walked to the big menu board and started thinking about our options. We decided to split a two meat combo plate. We chose brisket and jalapeno sausage, with rice and potato salad as our sides. We got the BBQ sauce on the side, so we could taste the meat first. It also came with a slice of jalapeno bread. We also picked up a slice of pecan pie, because I had heard it was pretty great. Overall, the meat was pretty good. Some of the brisket was a bit dry, but not as much as other reviewers had commented on. Especially considering it was this late at night, that was pretty impressive. The sausage was also very tasty. The rice was a bit dry, with small chunks of ham throughout. Despite the dryness, it was tasty. The potato salad was very good, in my opinion, but my wife wasn't as much a fan. Oh well, she's not writing the review, I am! :) I enjoyed the BBQ sauce quite a bit. It had a sweetness to it that I enjoyed, with a touch of smokiness, and little bits of bacon throughout. I love anything with bacon, so that was a huge plus for me! yummmmm bacon! The pecan pie was also really good -- VERY sweet, but VERY tasty! I highly recommend it, if you like sweet! I would go back JUST for the pie! The portion seemed a little small for the price, but I haven't been to enough BBQ places around here to really judge. It was about $11 for the two meat combo, but it didn't seem like that much meat on our plate. Perhaps that is typical? I'll revise this, if need be, as we continue to review. Not the best BBQ we've had, but certainly not the worst. I am between 3 and 4 stars, so I'll round up to four. Future visits might help me clarify this rating more, so I'll keep you informed!

We lunch here frequently and always enjoy the food and environment. Typically we order sliced brisket, DH orders ribs. The jalapeno beans and potato salad are wonderful. Yes my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The jalapeno bread is delicious too. We rarely get desserts but I must say the pecan pie and chocolate pie are beyond delicious. Two thumbs up and five stars!

DON'T MISS OUT ON THE PECAN PIE. Great place to eat. Also live music on patio on Friday nights. They know how to smoke some meat in this joint. Really enjoy this location have been there many times. Great TEXAS atmosphere. Plenty of room on the patio as well as inside.

While staying at a nearby hotel my companion and I were deciding on a place for dinner. There were plenty of the usual chain restaurants but this place looked interesting and had a full parking lot so we decided to try it. The decor was amazing! Almost like a museum. I actually went around and checked out some of the displays. They had a live band playing outside and beer and wine on the patio. A real fun atmosphere. On that alone I would give them a five. The bbq was excellent. Some of the best baby back ribs I have had anywhere. The brisket was perfectly smoked, moist and flavorful. The two sides I had were very good also. My main problems with the meal are the bread and the sauce. The bread was some kind of jalapeno flavored thing. Not overly spicy, just strange. I think regular white or wheat bread would have been a better choice. The sauce was a major disapointment. It had the look, taste and consistency of spaghetti sauce. It really brought down the meal. My meat was definitely five star quality also but based on the bread and sauce my rating is only four stars. I wish I had tried the pecan pie that everyone is raving about or at least brought a slice back to the hotel.

Hands down the best slice of Pecan Pie I have ever consumed, to be fair it's the only Pecan Pie I have ever consumed. I had the brisket sandwich on the jalapeno bread and both were not popping with flavor but the BBQ sauce took care of that. The side of beans was delicious although they were a bit on the sweet side.

For years I was never a BBQ fan. This Good Company location reminds me why a little too vividly. I am a novice in this food genre, but a little schooling from Mike W's BBQ appreciation school has set me on the right path when seeking out the deliciousness that BBQ has to offer my occasional need for carnage. My sister claims the brisket consistency was different when she ate here before, but this particular night was dismal. It's a shame because the place itself is amusing. A hunter's lodge, but more hysterically/maniacally, a vegetarian's worst nightmare. Its walls are morbid, yet so overwhelmingly excessive that it works. The Buffalo head is the clincher. Alas--the brisket. This is the kind of tough, bland brisket that kept me away from BBQ for so long. The kind that is edible only after soaking it in tons and tons of sauce, but even the sauce couldn't budge me this round. Not a happy eater. My sister had mentioned inconsistency in the meat, but there's no redeeming such a poor performance. I thought, however, that I'd give them a shot at redemption. Half order of ribs. My brother came back with them. They were good. A solid three stars, but not great and not making me come back here. I'll go to Carl's for my BBQ fix in this area. About a minute away and a whole lot better!

Home of the best Czech Sausage and Turkey in Texas. I'm willing to make such a bold statement because I've tried the best in Houston, Lockhart, Dallas, Austin, Giddings, Elgin, and Chapel Hill. I've never had bad food here. Its always been super satisfying and reasonably affordable.

The sausage was great, probably my favorite thing I had. The brisket was pretty good, but maybe a little on the dry side. Sides are great, but pricey. It would probably be 3 stars, except the atmosphere is so entertaining, love the 6-guns on the doors! Took my family there when they visited and really enjoyed all the memorabilia inside.

I was super excited to eat here, however, the food turned out to just be ok. The atmosphere and outside patio are nice, and prices are typical bbq prices. I got a baked potato with choppped beef and it was a good serving for me, but if your expecting a big baker your outta luck here. I don't see myself going back...and if you have long hair it will smell like smokey mesquite bbq for the rest of the day after you leave.

As native Texans, my husband and I love BBQ. We've tried lots of restaurants and wanted to try Goode's after seeing it on a History Channel show. The only dish we really liked was the sausage. The brisket was bland, had an inconsistent cut (fat content), and was greasy. The beans were weird, but the potato salad wasn't bad. They did allow us to bring our small dog (leashed) onto the porch, which was nice since we were traveling. Unfortunately, the food wasn't good enough to justify another stop.

The food is OK. Not that great for all the hype. I love to atmosphere - the way you line up, get a tray, and order your food (you can drink a beer while you are in line!). The ribs weren't bad, but there is much better BBQ in Houston. I wrote wheelchair accessible, but I didn't check out the bathroom.

This location is get for picking up food for home. Easy on and off 290 and the food is awesome. The Brisket can not be beat (with our without the BBQ sause). When people coem from out of town, they always want to go to Goode company. This is after we have taken them to other BBQ places in and around Houston. The sittign area is great and love the small store inside. The sauses and rubs for sale are great.

When I eat bbq I eat sliced brisket. I love the bbq brisket here. The bbq sauce is good too. Everything has a good smoked bbq flavor. I've eaten the one meat and 2 meat dinner plates. It comes with two sides. I like the austin baked beans with rice. This place is one of my bbq faves!

I had high expectations walking in to Goode Co. as I had tasted their pecan pie years ago when my former employer had them cater to our office. That was some of the best pecan pie that I had ever tasted (pecan halves ... not pieces ... yum-O!), so I thought the BBQ would be just as good. Sadly, I assumed wrong. I mean, it wasn't a total disappointment, but it wasn't goode (pun intended) either. Carl's BBQ, which is right down the street, is far better in my book. I ordered a beef brisket sandwich and the hubby ordered the usual loaded baked potato. We shared a slice of pecan pie which was heavenly (as expected)! The best thing between both of our meals was the fresh bread they used for my sandwich. The brisket was a bit dry and what I disliked the most is that we had to ask for more BBQ sauce. They give you an itty bitty dish of sauce on the side which isn't nearly enough, for me anyway. The funny thing is that it's nothing special either; it's just a basic BBQ sauce. Oh, we got a side of Czech sausage and it was so-so. It was actually too spicy for me but I've never had Czech sausage before so maybe it's supposed to be that way? I burped it for hours after we left the place so I don't think I'll be having anything Czech again (for my husband's sake). If I ever come back it will most likely be for dessert. I'm almost certain that when I get an inkling for brisket I'll be heading back to Carl's where the BBQ sauce practically flows down in between tables. If I were to recommend this place to anyone it would be to my amigos with kiddos since they have a mini playground outside. The outdoor seating is nice as well for having a few beers, or better yet, some pecan pie. I can't give Goode Co. anymore than two stars (one star for atmosphere and one more for pecan pie) because their BBQ is a bit on the dry side and their service is barely existent. Why go to a BBQ place where brisket is dry ... that's like sacrilegious in Texas!

  • Carlos B.

I love the look of the place but not the food. The sauces always give me heartburn and its definitely not worth it. I think there are several much better BBQ places within a few miles of this one.
