I was craving a Gyro so I checked Google for places near me and then checked Yelp to see how they rated. I found El Greco to be rated above average and a few people said they had big portions. I arrived without placing my order ahead and there was 1 person in line. It didn't take long for the cashier/attendant to take care of him. She, the attendant was very helpful and pleasant. I ordered the Gyro Plate and the Gyro meat and sauce were Great! The salad, which I was not expecting, was ok too. Now, I am from Chicago, and when you order a Gyro Plate you get 3-4 pitas and A LOAD of Gyro meat. From El Greco my Gyro Plate came with 1 pita and just enough meat to fill it. Although the food was great there just wasn't enough of it. I would of gladly traded the salad for another pita and some more meat.

Very good gyro salad and gyro sandwich. Hummus needs a little improvement and the salads need more gyro meat to be fair for the price you are paying.

Fantastic service and solid Greek food tonight. There is a new owner and I have my fingers crossed that he can keep his enthusiasm and standards high. I'm looking forward to coming back often.

My good friend Tiffanie told me she found great reviews for El Greco, I'd been craving Greek food. Some of the reviews stated they were better them Niko Nikos, in my mind I said yeah right, we drove and got there around 7:15pm, 45 minutes before closing. I got a Gyro Sandwich and fries, and let me tell you the first bite I took remind me of the old Niko Niko's when the father was running the establishment the food was Direct and tasted homemade like a grandmother was in the kitchen cooking nothing fancy just basic good fresh ingredients. The pita bread with soft fluffy and buttery the meat was seasoned well, the white sauce is delicious purple onions tomatoes everything was just perfect. The fries were fresh cut fries great. Sometimes when you get to the status man that getting ready to close, they give you a dry hard meat, hard bread ,cold fries but this wasn't the case it was as if they were just opening and cooked everything to order I would give this establishment 5 stars for customer service and for the food ,it was a great experience, I will be going back soon.

Huge problem with this place.....you can't stop eating. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is warm. Lots of room around the table so you don't feel crowded. Big portions and good to the last bite. Free wifi to boot.

Terrible chicken gyro. Way to $$$ for the gyro combo. The portions were small on the sandwich combos. I will not be back.

So I decided to try out this place after passing by it for however long it's been there. I read the reviews on here and decided to get a gyro. Possibly the best decision of the week. It was so good! The fries were well seasoned, and the gyro itself was just delicious. The girl in front was friendly and I think one of the owners was inside and greeted me as soon as I came in, in spite of being in the middle of what seemed to be an important phone call. I got my food within 4-5 minutes and just enjoyed it. If you live on this side of town you MUST visit this place.

Excellent customer service! We were greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces. The Gyro plate was really tasty and it came with so much food. We ordered hummus as an appetizer and the warm pita bread complimented it perfectly. The staff was helpful, nice, and very friendly.

I always find myself here to cure my Greek craving. So good. I also love that it is a hub for community activity. Community members regularly meet here to discuss issues concerning our homes and residential area. Gotta love a restaurant that allows its customers to use its space to meet around good food and deep discussion around issues of importantance to them

Very authentic Greek food! My godfather brought me here, who is from Greece. I had the pastichio, which came with a side Greek salad plus another side dish, I chose feta fries. Everything was delicious, and service was excellent too. I will be back.

Apropos. El Greco was a Greek, living in Spain, a member of the Spanish Renaissance. This panaderia (and the Greek restaurant next to it) is owned by Greeks and located in the middle of 2nd ward. Carol Alvarado stomping ground. The pan, pastries, cookies, whatever your choice, are better than most of the treats I've gotten at other panaderias in this part of Houston. These tasted fresh and weren't too dry or stale. Not much is sadder than biting into a almost dead pastry. The space is huge, so there were lots of options to choose from, all patiently waiting on their trays behind the wooden-framed doors. After the heavenly mixture of sugar, butter, and flour almost knocked me out when I first entered, I slowly came round to the fact that I would have to sample a few. Well, one. How can you turn down a palmier? Perfect on its own or paired with a nice cup of black tea. Even better eaten on the drive home, pastry flakes going everywhere. They offer cakes, both giant ones for special occasions and the little tiny ones of the cup variety, then slices of everything from carrot to chocolate. Cookies with sprinkles. Gingerbread piggies. Watermelon-shaped cookies. Empenadas. Conchas. Flaky pastries in the shape of horns. Colorful treats that looked like erupting volcanos. Cinnamon twists. Pound cake slices with butter on top...

The BF had been stalking this place since it was being built and when I noticed it had opened in the Yelp! Hot New Businesses, I headed back over to my old hood to give it a try. The establishment is nice, clean and spacious with counter service (they bring your food to you when it is ready). I ordered the Dolmas app. and the Imam (stuffed eggplant with onions, garlic, and tomatoes). I had to remind the lady that the Dolmas came with Tzatziki sauce and the side I had asked for with my Imam wasn't rice, but rather the potatoes. No biggie. It was all very flavorful and tasty, and I will definately be back to try other items on their menu!!

Great food, good prices. They can be a little slow with preparing your dish at times. They actually forgot to cook someones dish in our group (we had 5 people). But, the food is great!

I've always loved Niko Nikos in Montrose. Now we have one on the East Side of Downtown Houston inside the Loop 610. It's still brand new to me and eat there about once a month. I can only speak of the gyro sandwich and gyro plate. SUPERB! I'm Hispanic and eat Mexican at home a lot, but just love their gyros. HERE me, they are better than Nikos! The gyro plate is too much food and I'm a big guy; lot's of good gyro meat, huge Greek salad, FRESH french fries (not greasy & NOT SYSCO), BEST Pita bread (way better than Nikos), but order an extra Pita bread and you'll have 2 gyro's if you can eat that much and great yogurt sauce (way better than Nikos) & good salad dressing. I keep wanting to try other dishes but find myself ordering the gyro plate with an extra pita (YUMMMM). Only grandma deserves five stars.

Finally something new to the East End/Side of Houston. I had the same complaints about the cashier but she's since been replaced with someone 1000 times better. The food though - wow, great. I love their Imam, tzaziki and taramasalata. I've had the zucchini, and dolmas as well and my mouth is watering as I write this - so yummy. Living in Chicago, you get used to the myriad of famous Greek restaurants in Greektown - this place could give them a run for their money. For real - and mostly because it's good food at good prices with good (very good) sized portions. Come here and try it - be a little patient to get the food. Sometimes the best things in life are worth waiting for :) They're still relatively new, so I had to allow for some kinks in their service and dish pick up, but don't worry - every new restaurant has the same issues. They're on a track to be one of my favorite spots to travel for all the way from the Heights. Oh, and visit their bakery next door - it's a huge and their cakes are yummy!!

Refreshingly healthy alternative to the taquerias and fast food places that rule the eastside. They gyro meat is tender and everything tastes really fresh. I just forget this place exists because of its obscure location.

We needed a place to stop for dinner after a long and tiring flight into Hobby and were pleasantly surprised to learn there was a Greek restaurant not far away! We were the only customers there, but the cashier was super friendly and the food was great. I especially liked the light and flaky spanakopita and the creamy moussaka; my dining partner got the Kokkinisto special and was very pleased with the flavor. Tasty hummus, too. Portions were large. We'd be happy to visit again next time we're in Houston.

Honestly, I wasn't a fan. The first sign of trouble was just that: a hand-written sign taped to the front door announcing "Now Hiring cashiers". I couldn't agree more on the need. The cashier on duty gave no greeting or assistance with the menu; simply leaned on the counter, waiting to write down whatever I might order. The dining room was trashed, with several tables piled with dirty dishes, paper, etc. The couple of tables that were clear had not been wiped/sanitized properly, leaving streaks from a dirty towel all across it. In addition to the dirty tables throughout, I continously had to swat flies away from my food as I ate I ordered the app Humus and a Gyros sandwich, with a drink. And no, the food was not delivered to my table; instead, a number was called, which I wasn't even aware of as I'd read on previous reviews that the food was delivered. There was no acknowledgement when I went to pick up my food. The food was actually OK: soft pita bread, fresh veggies, and hot Gyro meat. Too bad the experience was so bad that even the food didn't seem as good as it really was. I doubt I'll be back. It's rather out of the way from the areas I'm usually in, and the experience definitely fell flat, preventing me from going out of my way.

Great Greek in the neighborhood! Love Greek food and this hits the spot regularly. Moussaka is good, Pastichio (sp?) is good, the Greek salad is great! There are other places I would travel to for Greek, but I don't have to jones for a while anymore, because they are right down the street! Counter service, and staff (except for the family) is not knowledgeable of Greek Cuisine.

Wow!! This food is fantastic. The taramasalata is amazing. But be warned have it once, and you will find yourself in a couple of days craving it. Real home cooked food for inexpensive prices, glad I don't live closer or I might just move in.

El Greco is a great addition not just to the food scene in the East End but to the greater Houston food-scape as well. But, I have a few confessions to make. My first confession is that I have never dined here. This restaurant quickly became one of my go-to options for a quick, fresh, tasty, affordable to-go meal. Unlike another reviewer, I have never had any unpleasant surprises, necessitating a need to double-check my order nor any delays in receiving my food. Rather, the time from when I place my order at the counter to the time my perfectly-prepared and accurately packaged food is brought to me is inadequate to catch up on my email. My second confession is that I am not a connoisseur of Greek food, but I know El Greco could stand its ground in a Restaurant-War competition with Neiko-Neiko's (I used to work 3 blocks from their restaurant so know their menu well). Everything I have eaten has ranged from a solid, well prepared dish to a fantastic, top-tier surprise. My final confession is that I am addicted to their Taramousalata. It looks like hummus but SURPRISE! That unidentifiable yummy salty wanginess is caviar. What a delectable treat. This stuff also serves as an effective bribery tool for my staff at work. El Greco catered a casual get-together of 12 friends this fall and everyone found something to savor. Plus, there were a few tasty surprise gifts accompanying our order (thank you!). In short, El Greco provides a nice range of dishes at a great value and knows how to make desert too!

pleasantly surprised to find a greek restaurant in the east side :) very impressed with the quality and flavor of the food. i've tried to eat at all the greek places i can find and this is one of the best. we've had the gyros, beef and chicken. the meats are tender and juicy - not greasy or dried out. the pita bread is so fresh. we also had fried zucini, chicken soup, greek salad, stuffed eggplant. all were fresh and tasted authentic - had the greek spices where they should be. the galaktabouriko was creamy, fresh as well. very impressed. i would expect this quality of food from a more upscale restaurant. i've picked up lunch from there a few times. each time the staff is polite, accurate and the place is very clean. looking forward to trying each item on the menu !

Ok so I have never set foot in this restaurant, but I have had their food and it is quite yummy. I had a gyro and fried zucchini...the gyro was very good, pretty much just like how you would get at Niko Nikos, but the fried zucchini was AMAZING! The zucchini was cut in long slices, was fried, then topped with feta cheese and had a side of tatziki to dip in. I would just take the fried zucchini, roll it up with the melting feta inside and dip it in the tatziki and it was magic in my mouth! I will be going back just for the fried zucchini alone!

I've been here a dozen times partly because I work nearby. At first, I was excited to see a new Greek place open outside of Midtown. However, over the course of the last few months both the quality of food and service has gone down. It's not super bad but it isn't great either. I wouldn't recommend one to go out of one's way but if you're in the neighborhood and hungry then maybe, although, their gyro is better than Niko's Niko.

Awesome, authentic Greek food! I have ate here three times so far and every time the experience has been great! The restaurant is very clean and new. The service is friendly and fast. The food is the best Greek I have had in a long time!! Some of my favorite dishes are: stuffed eggplant, gyros, pork kabob's and their hummus! The baklava (spelling??) is out of this world! The owner even came by and told us about his Greek heritage. El Greco is on my list of top favs!!!

El Greco is a great addition to the neighborhood which is in dire need of diverse cuisines. If I lived elsewhere, I wouldn't make a special trip to El Greco, but since it is right down the street, when we get a craving for Greek (which is more often than one would think), it hits the spot. The Greek Salad for $5.95 is standout and we have been ordering it often as as a family-size side dish. The appetizer sampler is also a great deal with a great variety of dishes, including the delicious fried zucchini. The gyro sandwiches are tasty, as is lentil soup and the roasted potatoes. Skip the (tasteless) rice and chicken soup. I tend to agree with previous posters about the service. The cashiers could use a pep-talk. Crossing my fingers this place lasts.

I went here yesterday and the food quality is great. The serving sizes are right, and the place is very clean!!! The bakery next door smells wonderful. I believe this is a great place. Give it a try.

Pretty much the only Greek food I'm not afraid to try are Gyros and the Gyros here tasted as good as anywhere and weren't terribly expensive. The salad was good too with all sorts of rabbit food I wouldn't normally touch. I do wish they were a little more generous with the Pita bread though. Also, the place is very clean and has that new Greek restaurant smell.

We had been hearing reviews about our new neighbor and figured we would check them out tonight. Packed restaurant is usually a good sign of fantastic food. We were not let down. Our food was quickly delivered, no wait in line to order and a table for us to sit at! I ordered the Imam (stuffed eggplant with onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers and feta cheese) and was amazed. The flavors were great, the eggplant was tenderly slow cooked and the portion size was quite large. I ordered the rice on the side and was a bit disappointed as it lacked flavor. I tasted the gyro plate and the meat was great and potatoes were fantastic. Hummus is flavorful as well! I will be eating from here often!

we waited over 30 minutes for food at el Greco. For my friend who was on lunch break this only gave her about 10 minutes to eat once receiving the food. We asked twice why our order was taking so long. The first time the cashier said it was almost ready. The second time the cashier asked the kitchen staff directly who then admitted that they had not started on our order yet! There were 3 orders placed after ours that all received theirs for before us! And no our order was not complicated! The owner brought us dessert as an apology but we hardly had time to eat it since the food took so long and my friend had to get back to her office. The food itself was ok. It was very reasonably priced. Just not as good as I would have hoped for waiting so long. I would be willing to try that place one more time.

I love the food here. Good prices and service. Everything is very low-key. Eating here is a nice change from the typical mexican food that dominates the area. Honestly, I prefer the El Greco to Niko Niko's any day.

I was wondering why I haven't tried this place before. I was looking on yelp to see what places I can try and this place came up. So my boyfriend and I decided to go and see what this place has to offer. A bit expensive but not too much of a big deal to us. We started off with the hummus which was very good. Then, I ordered the Lamb Shank and it was to die for. It was fall off the bone tender and very flavorful. My boyfriend had the gyro sandwich with fries. He let me try some of his sandwich and it was good. The cashier was very polite and made us feel welcomed. For dessert, we had the baklava and that was also good. Overall it was a great experience. Before we left, my boyfriend ordered the chicken gyro sandwich for his brother. When we got home, his brother tried the chicken gyro, even he and his wife loved it. Now they want to try this place out. To be honest, I highly recommend trying this place out. We will return there soon.

Gyro sandwich and gyro plate are delicious. They updated their menu though and everything is overpriced now. Also a side salad used to be included in the plate and now it's not. 10 bucks for a gyro sandwich and fries (no drink included). Not the best location but the staff is always nice and the restaurant is simple, laid back, and clean.

So I was excited to try this place. If you follow my reviews, you'll know I've been looking for a solid greek place in Houston that will remind me of the ones in NY (seriously you must go and try Greek food in NY if you haven't). This place KILLS Niko Niko's. I was very happy with the quality of the food. Boyfriend and I started with the hummus family size appetizer (4/5 - 5 for quality but -1 for size). Anyone who calls that family style must either consider a family to be 1 person and a very small child or it really isn't meant for a family. My suggestion is to go with a larger portion. If you have to up the price by a dollar or so, do it, and let me get more hummus. Also, please don't charge for extra pita. "Family size" hummus shouldn't come with 1 piece of pita. Does each member of the family get a quarter? I'm just not into that. Boyfriend got the beef kebobs (not called that, but that's what they were - blanking on the name right now) and I got the chicken gyro meat. We LOVED our platters. It came with a side of salad and choice of potato or rice. I got the greek potatoes (5/5) and boyfriend got the rice (5/5 for him). We were very happy with the quality of the food. It also came with some pita. This is a place where you order at the counter and sit down to eat. We came on Memorial Day and it was pretty empty. The service was great, though. Owner, if you're reading this, you should be THRILLED with the 2 staff members you had working that day. They were enthusiastic about the food, and they let us know that you're thinking of updating the menu and to be on the look-out for that. I will definitely be checking out the new menu. I'd love to see this place do a traditional greek fish dish. I would be more than willing to spend the money to get a stuffed flounder with feta or a branzino, so please think about it! All in all, definitely will be back. I think the decor could use a bit of sprucing, but it was certainly a pleasant place to dine. Check this place out for some very good Greek food!

This place puts Niko Nikos to shame! Its reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! The meat is tender and piping hot and the lemon butter potatoes and great! This is my new go-to greek restaurant. New owner and better food from what Ive heard, check it out!

First things first, lets address the interesting location of this establishment. It is not in the most hoppin part of town, to say the least. And I would probably not be comfortable coming here past 6pm. However, I will be frequenting here many many times in the future before 6pm! :) I found this place on yelp (of course!), and after reading all the great reviews, I was excited to try it out. My friend and I got a gyro sandwich and a greek salad to split. The gyro meat was amazzzin (yes, it needed those three z's). From my experience, gyro meat can go terribly terribly wrong. I've experienced tough, dry gyro meat and it is no bueno for fulfilling your gyro craving. However, this place hits the spot. The meat is perfectly tender, soft, and flavorful. Yum. They also put a good amount of tzatziki sauce in the sandwich, which I greatly appreciate. It was the perfect balance of meat, bread, sauce and veggies. The greek salad was delicious as well. It was a teeny tiny bit on the tart side for me, so it might be nice if they could scale that back just a wee bit. But besides that, it was great. Olives, feta, veggies, and a delicious sauce, how can you go wrong? The service was spot on as well. The young man who took our order was very friendly, and professional. Another young man checked up on us often to make sure we were ok and liked the food. Overall, I would definitely hit this place up again. If you come after sundown, I would make sure you come with a guy. Besides that, go get yourself some gyro heaven!

So this place is kinda in its own place, meaning it's not really around other busy businesses which can be a good thing/bad thing depending on what kind of atmosphere u like. It also has simple/minimal decor which is kinda meh. My bf got the "meaty lasagna" and of course I gotta try the gyro. We also got the stuffed grape leaves app So we have never tried the grape leaves app before but since Viet ppl have a similar dish of stuffed grape leaves with meat on the inside, we wanted to try the Greek version. Totally disappointed. Couldn't even finish it since it was so unappetizing and u know how Asian ppl don't like wasting food. The inside had a cold sour rice concoction and the grape leaves were thick. Very much the opposite of the Viet version of stuffed grape leaves. So we honestly don't know if it was the restaurant's take on the dish or we really just don't like greek stuffed grape leaves. 0/10, WOULD NOT order again. Meaty lasagna was not that great...at all. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't that great, so it was extremely average. It had a super thick ricotta like cheese layer at the top which kinda made me yak a bit and on the inside of the lasagna it had its own layer of elbow pasta which was a bit odd since it had the normal lasagna pasta layering for it already...so...I guess...sure? My bf said it was also REALLY DRY....it sorely needed some type of sauce. Also is was luke warm erring on the side of kinda cold which I didn't like but my bf was ravenous so he didn't let me ask to have it heated properly. -___-' barbarians these days. It came with salad on the side which was good...but how could u mess up salad....unless u microwave it or something stupid like that. Came with this pilaf rice thing that had a flavor of green pepper which we both agreed was the best thing on the plate. Also came with 2 small pieces of pita bread which were toasted nicely lol. 6/10, WOULD NOT order again. Now for the Gyro. To make it short, it was pretty good. The lamb was nicely cooked with some crispy juicy pieces with generous amount of the white yogurt sauce. 8/10, WOULD ORDER again. Now to talk abt the owner or whom I assumed was the owner. While we were eating he came over and asked how we liked the food etc..basic manager asking abt food questions yadah yadah. But then he looked at my Bf's lasagna and said "Oh, you should've ordered the eggplant lasagna, Asians love eggplant." I was like wtf -___-' I was in a good mood bc of the gyro so I didn't say anything snappy back at him. Stereotypes these days, so annoying. For the record, neither of us likes eggplant. That's like saying all Mexicans like tacos. Tl;Dr- Only come here for the GYRO, lasagna was basic (in the boring never again kind of way), stuffed grape leaves was horrible, stereotypical owner. Take out only, will not eat in again.

Stopped in for lunch. Had the Gyro sandwich w/ fries and a Baklava. The Gyro was filling and very tasty. The fries were pretty good but not quite great. I never had Baklava made with cinnamon in it. It was very tasty. Could have used a touch more honey but it was still good.

Me and my coworkers ate there for lunch and it was great. Matt one of the owners was very helpful and really made our dining experience exceptional. The food came out pretty quick and was cooked to perfection, there was four of us and everyone commented on how great the food was. This place is close to downtown where we all work and this will become one of our favorite stops for lunch.

Tried this place for the first time Feb. 6, a Friday evening. Surprisingly, during my time there, only a couple and another lady were there. I ordered the lamb gyro, and my guest tried the chicken one. It was not my first time eating Greek, contrary to my friend, but we both LOVED the food. The size was generous, as was the serving of their delicious homemade fries (THE best ones I've had) that came in our combos. I definitely recommend this place!

First time i went there I had the gyro special it wasn't super awesome but it made me come back a second time. Second time I had stuffed eggplant, it wasn't very good, a mushy wet mess and the rice tasted like uncle bens microwaved. The baklava is over priced for the portion, and the kid that works the register needs to work on his interpersonal skills.

After reading the reviews for this restaurant, my friend and I had to visit!!! She had been craving Greek food, but Niko Niko's is no longer what it used to be. I ordered the Gyro platter, it included gyro meat, tzatziki, pita bread, lemon potatoes and a Greek salad. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! My friend was so impressed, she asked to meet the person preparing the food. Maria has hit it outta the park with her cooking. I will definitely return to try other dishes. I probably would have gone back today if they weren't closed.

This place is amazing, great atmosphere, delicious food, and the staff is really pleasurable. The owner was in there and introduced himself and walked me through the menu. He was a really down to earth guy and was even cleaning and setting up tables. I ordered a simple gyro sandwhich and fries and it was delicious. The fries were perfectly seasoned, and the gyro's sauce and toppings were at that sweet spot of moist, delicious, yet fresh. This little place is amazing and needs to pick up. They even have free wi-fi. This area of town is known for its delicious Mexican food, Greek food shares many things and is a delicious different flavor. So if you're close go by and check it out, I'm glad I did.

My husband and I have ordered from El Grecco a couple of times and they NEVER disappoint! Their food is so tasty and fresh. If you're trying to eat healthy this is a great place to go, their entrees/food are light & hearty at the same time where you leave full and satisfied without the uncomfortable bloated feeling. Even my daughters love their kids meals and they're picky eaters. I love the zucchinis, salads are huge and DELISH, pastichio plate is great(my fav at the moment). I plan on ordering many more times in the future and eventually trying the entire menu. The staff is also a delight... Always so helpful and cheery, greet you with a huge smile.

I eat here a lot. When I'm not cooking, this seems like the next best thing because I feel like I'm eating homemade food, not restaurant food. Everything I've had has been really good. The staff and owner are really friendly. The place is very clean. Last night I hosted a party for about 60 people and had El Greco provide the food. It was a big hit. Pastichio (Greek lasagna), chicken souvlaki, spinach/feta pie, Greek salad, hummus!!! All were wonderful.

I love this place! It's right in the neighborhood and whenever I want something that isn't fast food or Mexican, this is definitely my go-to place. The staff is always extremely nice and very accommodating. The last time I came here with my grandma and my younger siblings, they had their TV turned on to cartoon network. We had an awesome time watching The Amazing World of Gumball.

This is definitely some of the best Greek food in Houston! I was looking for a place to get a great Greek salad and hummus and this place did not disappoint. The hummus is homemade as are the entrees. The Greek salad that I had was the biggest I have ever gotten. You can easily order this as your entree and split it with another or box it up for another meal later. Although the food was quite nice, the service staff need a bit more training in attentiveness which keep me from giving this place a better rating. But we would definitely return.

El Greco kills it everytime. This time I had what's probably the simplest dish I've ordered here thus far, but it was just as good. Soup and salad, and a side of lemon roasted potatoes. The salad was fresh, the soup was rich and healthy, and the potatoes were delicious as usual. Oh and apparently they've started selling beer and wine :)

When it comes to Greek food I expect an amazing Greek salad. This place definitely disappointed me on the salad I ordered BUT the chicken soup and the pita bread was amazing. Probably the best pita bread I've had in a while. Parking is no problem here and depending on what time you arrive you won't have to stand in a long line during lunch hours. The service was great and everyone there seemed pretty friendly which is always a nice addition to any meal.

So far the most authentic Greek food in Houston, and I've been to popular "Greek" restaurants here like Niko Nikos and Yiayia Marys. Given all gyros in America has nothing to do with gyros back in Greece (soooo much better there), I don't rate restaurants based on that like others do. So far I've had the pasticcio, tzatziki, gyros and beef kokkinisto, all pretty good. Very Greek recipes, with the exclusion of the gyros. Suggest all Greeks or those who miss real Greek food to give this place a try, and please don't just order the gyros.

I really love El Greco and come from downtown at least once a week for lunch. My go to is the gyro plate but sometimes I opt for titan plate if I'm extra hungry. If I'm extra hungry then I order an extra side of gyro meat as well! Friendly staff, clean restaurant, quick service! I highly recommend checking out this East End gem

If in a pinch and you don't want to drive to niko nikos this will do for sure! For sure better than going to theos. Get the gyro and the potatoes which were great. The only thing is that the gyro bread seems to fall apart to easily so don't eat and drive

I've come here fairly regularly for the past two months, and it's definitely my go to place for lunch and dinner if I don't feel like cooking. The owner, Matt, is awesome, and I've even met his dad outside hanging out. The food is on point, very authentic, and the owner is always happy to discuss the menu, as he's always at the counter overseeing things and ringing up people. I have tried a good portion of the menu, and I have never been disappointed. The burgers are really great, and both they and the fries are very well seasoned. The Greek food is the real draw, though. It's very authentic, so the flavor profiles are understandably different an comparatively unique from most typical Texan fare. I've had coworkers who've tried the gyros declare that they are the best in the city, and they probably aren't wrong. The pastichio is my favorite, but I can also recommend the moussaka. I just had the dolmadakia, which is a really good appetizer, provided that you appreciate something light, and a tad sour because of the lemon and egg sauce. The rice pudding and baklava are also very nice. So I would highly recommend this place. It's really convenient if you live in the area, and it's got a good menu for people who like real Mediterranean food, and some really great burgers for the less adventurous.

So I was excited to try this place, but when I look online for the menu it was the wrong one because it wasn't updated which was ok then when I order I added a salad to my entree but the person didn't tell me or say on the menu that it already came with a salad, so I ended up with two salads but that was fine (I guess) but portion size (side)we're not great at all and over priced, if I go back maybe just to get the soup because it's the only Greek food in the hood! Very disappointed food was ok nothing out of my mind

My girlfriend and I have eaten here over 30 times, when we went in tonight the quality had gone down to such a point that my girlfriend couldn't even swallow one bite of the beef Slovaki plate, I thought she might be overreacting so I tried a bite and with much difficulty I swallowed it but thought the meat had either turned or had been microwaved, either it was completely inedible, she told the cashier, he offered to substitute for another, she said appetite had understandably soured and ask for a refund for that single item, guy from the back comes out and says no refunds. We left and will never ever come back to this place again for both quality reasons and customer service.

Great local Mediterranean for east end residents. Staff and management are great! Forgot our baklava in a to go order one night, so I drove the 2 min to go back, and they refunded all of it plus sent us with extra!

Great value for good Greek food without the crowd. El Greco is rather interestingly located in the East End on Lawndale across from the Post Office. There used to be a time when a lot of Greek establishments were located in the East End, especially near the Ship Channel, but all those places shut down quite a while ago. As close as it is to southeast side of downtown, it's a quick drive from my job at U of H. Located in a newer shopping center, the restaurant doesn't quite have that comfortable feel of a cafe, but it's clean and spacious with the touristy Greek pictures on the walls. El Greco has the full span of your classic Greek dishes which I have enjoyed both in taste and portion size, but what really stands out is the availability of chicken gyros and pork souvlaki. Both delicious and different from your usual Greek standards. So in comparison to my favorite Greek place, Niko Nikos, El Greco might be a slight step down, but makes up for it in it's pricing for dishes averaging less than $10. My Tip for you: $5 Gyro & a Drink Happy Hour 4-7p. My Tip x2: They said they allow BYOB (but I don't know if they will provide glasses).

The food is excellent but I don't go anymore out of principal. It's near my house so it's convenient. I went consistently for 6 months but stopped after the owner charged me extra for Tzatziki sauce. I was confused because I figured at least one would come with my $12 meal. The owner told me yogurt is expensive and he can't give it out for free. Hmmmm okie dokie. I'll just go to Nikos. It's not as close but it's damn good & they give me the sauce without charging extra.

The gyro was good, bread was soft and tsaziki sauce had just enough garlic. Rosemary french fries were dense, could have been cooked a bit longer. The service is what left a bad taste in my mouth. The cashier told me I shouldn't "taze" my boyfriend and went on to tell us how his wife rides him and how women should make sure to cut their men some slack. I felt uncomfortable being there after that. Maybe he's going through something with his wife, but I don't think sexist comments to girls he doesn't know will help or provide a friendly atmosphere for the restaurant.

Warm, attentive service. Tremendous lentil soup. The best I've had. Gyros and fries are top notch. Their marinated grilled chicken is wonderful. I eat here about once a week. I'm so glad they are in the East End. Do yourself a favor and come give it a try. You won't be disappointed. This is the type of community restaurant that is a pleasure to support.

I went to Greece last summer and have been craving authentic, simple, Greek food. After testing out the often over-hyped Niko Niko's, I came here with the high hopes that this would be a "dhaba," a Hindi/Punjabi word for a no-frills restaurant that has authentic and excellent food. I was not disappointed! I had the Imam, which is baked eggplant with onions, tomatoes, and feta cheese. I was worried it might be too oily (Greeks, after all, consume the most olive oil per person than any other nation in the world), but it was perfectly done, with more reliance on roasting to bring out flavors than gallons of olive oil. The Greek salad it came with was good as well -- crisp, fresh vegetables -- and the dressing was again not too oily and perfectly dispensed. The oven roasted lemon tomatoes were a treat as well. Additionally, everything was extremely reasonably priced for the amount of food I got -- I easily had enough left after lunch to serve as dinner. Bravo! I will definitely be back.
