Not much to say except that everything I've had here is very good. Only star missing was for environment. It smelled strongly of cleaning supplies and it is very basic. Get in, eat, and get out and you'll have a good experience.

The service, quality, and quantity are amazing. You will not find a better Vietnamese restaurant. My wife and I drive to come to this specific place.

What a great place for Asian food. I love the Vietnamese egg rolls! They don't serve beer or wine here though ... That's kind of a drawback. But the food is great and the prices are reasonable.

I've never had Vietnamese eggrolls wrapped in rice paper before, I don't know if I can ever go back. They're HUGE and so crispy, crunchy and decadent. I will be back just for these. I ordered bun with grilled pork and shrimp. The shrimp were so good and crispy! The pork was excellent, thin, a little chewy, reminiscent of bacon, and there was a lot of it in there. BF had the bun with beef and the "special sauce" Me and my boyfriend rarely get full off of Viet cuisine but we couldn't even finish our noodle bowls which NEVER happens. I love that they give you an entire pitcher of fish sauce because we always have to ask for extra when we go to other places. Cafe Suada was excellent as well. Service was average, but we can't wait to return.

This is my absolute favorite place to eat pho! They have the best tasting pho! It is always hot and consistent. Not only is the pho amazing I have never had anything I don't like here. The spring rolls and eggrolls are to die for! I have never had bad service here. The owners are ALWAYS in the building so you know the staff is on top of everything!!! Before my friend and I come here we fast all day so we can eat as much ad possible, I know we're redic but we love it!! It's far from my house but totally worth the drive. Even my husband loves it. I can't wait for my next adventure to Pho Yen!

Never had PHO before but heard it was good! So I tryed this place in Friendswood and I fell in love with PHO at that point. Gave it a 4 star only because the staff was a little slow but not horrible...

Really enjoy visiting this place. One of my favorite local places that is super convenient on those nights that I am unable to prepare a healthy dinner for my family. We can never go wrong with the pad Thai or spring rolls. Employees are usually always very kind and quick to provide service. Appreciate that they are consistent with their dishes and even though a little pricier than I would like, my family is always full and satisfied with their portions.

I love the food and service is right on... Got to go get me a B2

Came in for sweet and sour chicken. What I got was nothing like what sweet and sour chicken looks like, ate some and left the rest. Ordered some egg rolls, they were huge, deep fried and not that good either. Not a good experience overall.

Best Chinese food in town that uses white meat chicken-enough said! And ohhhhhhhhh the Vietnamese egg rolls from there are absolutely THE BIGGEST AND BEST!!!

Awesome experience today at Pho Yen, its been some time since our last visit. Today did not disappoint. We had a to-go meal. Still hot when we got it home. The pork spring rolls were fantastic, I had the flank steak vermicelli and my wife had the chicken fried rice and fried won tons. Great food we will definitely be back.

Food ok, somewhat bland. Service was not very good (kind of rude), but not sure if that had to do with a communication problem or they were just rude. They seemed bothered if you asked for something. Not super accommodating wanted just shrimp for my 7 year old and they said I had to get it as the menu stated.

  • Quynh L.

The food come out really fast and their servers are friendly and helpful. I love this place and will come back again. They have the best egg roll in Houston, even in Texas. That was huge and crispy.

Really good pho, Huge portions. I've never had the Chinese menu, so this review is mainly for the pho and when I'm in Freindswood, it is THE place for pho. Or when I'm in Clear Lake, Webster ... You get the idea. Probably not the actual best pho I've had, but way up there and the broth is excellent, on its own it might be my favorite. I remember the first time I came and was skeptical about paying 1.90 for ONE egg roll but then my server brought out what appeared to be deep fried hot dog on top the standard Vietnamese egg roll salad. Worth it!! I've rarely dined in but the service has fantastic each time. The place is a stones throw from Piccomolo gelato, if you're in need of something sweet after you eat .

Was in the market for a new pho place and and heard good stuff about this place. Since the one we usually eat in Webster on NASA Road 1 became a 50/50 chance of good service and or good food, it was tile to venture out. Pho Yen is GOOD and has a combination of Asian favs from Thailand (where I'm from), Vietnam, and China. I haven't tried everything (yet) but from what I have had....GOOD STUFF! So far the flava of the day is always the Vietnam fried egg rolls!

This is the best pho restaurant period with the best pho ever. I eat at pho restaurants at least 2 times a month For the last 17 years. This restaurant is the best to date, and hands down the best service I have ever had at any Vietnamese restaurant. Most pho shops wont even refill your drink unless you ask, our glasses never went empty in the 1.5 hours we spent talking after our dinner.

  • Blake S.

Absolutely love their vermicelli bowl with the spring rolls. Lots of food at a great price. The coconut drink is also very refreshing and good. The staff was very nice. I would recommend this place.

We drove by this place one day and thought we'd stop in. Our server was extremely helpful with the menu. I've attached a photo of their eggrolls....they are the biggest I've ever seen! I could only eat just one. They are thick full of meat. I ordered the curry chicken. I wasn't really pleased with my dish, however my boyfriend kept picking off my plate and kept saying how good it was. I really didn't care for it. It was too saucy for me. Although it's a little far from our house, I'd like to go back and try something different.

Usually I can count on Pho Yen for consistently good food, but on my visit last week I think something must have changed. I hadn't been in a few months and was really looking forward to the meal. Sadly, me and one of my dining partners were rather let down. I ordered the orange chicken, which I have had several times before and enjoyed. Usually its very tender and has a slightly sweet orange and chili flavor flavor. However this time it the chicken was overcooked (to the point of being dried out) and chewwwwy...and the orange/chili flavor had morphed into just plain nasty bitter/rancid chili. My dining partner's noodle/rice/beef dish was more like noodles topped with flavorless "pork rinds" or jerky.. I sure hope that they were just suffering from an off night, and that this isn't a trend...because if they keep it up they won't be open much longer.

This is top of the line food, service is great, and polite, and friendly. great prices cant beat it.

Guess I'm missing something here. The place was okay. They serve HUGE servings and you will need a take-out box.

  • Ron B.

Pho Yen is always on. Sometimes I cry when they are closed (Sundays). Spring rolls with peanut sauce are an awesome appetizer. I always get the same grilled beef and rice with fried egg on top, but their noodle soups are good to. The owners are usually there and staff is always great. great place. BEST PHO/CHINESE PLACE IN FRIENDSWOOD. This place is good as Fuck! If you're Asian go get the bun with eggroll/pork or any combination of pho. If you're a non Chino and it's your first time, get the sesame chicken with an egg roll, that combination is the bomb! Great service and support servers, the owners/managers always come out every once in awhile to check up and talk to new and regular customers, which is great. Don't be fooled and take this restaurants pho lightly, I've read others reviews of the pho not being truly Asian... From white people... These people need to get themselves checked cause I'm Asian and the pho is spot on, some people don't know what to look for in a good bowl of pho.

  • Katie G.

Oh my goodness..the egg rolls. How will I ever be able to revert to those so called egg rolls I've been eating all my life. This was my first time having Pho and it was amazing. I had the brisket, round eye, and flank Pho.

  • Spencer R.

Need I say more about this amazing restaurant ? It it truly the best Vietnamese food for miles . I eat here often

    (5)
  • Kitty A.

This place is hit and miss. On one visit, spot on...the next, so-so. The Pho is the bomb, some of the Chinese dishes however, seem to miss the mark. One thing I've noticed is that the dishes on some visits lack seasoning/ spice, then next visit are great....maybe different chefs. Definitely this food is better if eaten in, so you can utilize their fish sauce, etc.

  • Evelyn R.

The best Pho I have ever had!! I never finish an entire bowl of Pho but I did here. Everything was so good, the egg roll is a definite must and its not the small kind. My husband got the pork spring roll which was good and combined with the egg roll, they could make a meal on their own. The prices are reasonable and the service was great. They offer hot plates too which looked good as well.

I really enjoy coming here for my noodle fix. I'm addicted to noodles and this place definitely satisfies that need. I'm not that much of a pho fanatic so I can't really tell you how good that is here. But, the vermicelli is very worthwhile! I usually get the C5 noodle which translates to lemongrass chicken. It's spicy, white meat chicken breast piled into a huge bowl filled with fresh lettuce, bean sprouts, chopped peanuts (cilantro if you want it) and of course, vermicelli. The fixins to mix hot sauce is brought to your table and then you are left to fill up and enjoy. Vietnamese coffee is delicious here too. I never get anything else. I've tried a few other dishes and they have all been wonderful. They serve Chinese food, but I don't typically order that. I've tried husband's chicken with black bean sauce, hot and sour soup and been happy with the taste and quality of those as well. Service is fast and friendly. I like the sit wherever you want attitude, as well as the to go cups for drinks if you need one. Great prices too! Written in my travelogue: One of my favorite places to eat every week or so. Love that they are open from 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM making lunch hour whenever you want or need it to be.

Yummm noodle soup! We love this little place in the corner shopping center. What's more impressive, is that my kids love it too. They can be quite picky, but they even request the egg rolls and soups! Service is always very good and courteous too!

I used to live downtown and have eaten a LOT of Vietnamese food. I come here specifically for the egg rolls. They are the best I've ever found and are worth a special trip. The pho is pretty good for the burbs, but I haven't tried many other places around here because I can't pass up an opportunity for their egg rolls. The pad thai is disappointing but that's because it isn't a Thai restaurant. In fact, I wish they served more authentic Vietnamese dishes like duck salad or bahn mi and stopped trying to be too many things they're not with all the Americanized Chinese food. But I guess they're just catering to their market, and must be doing something right because they've been there a long time.

I go to this little soup place located in a small strip center at the intersection of Fm 518 and FM 528 for the soup and egg rolls. Oh sure, they also have typical Chinese fare and very decent lunch specials but it's the Pho that keeps me coming back. It has a very flavorful broth that surpasses those at any restaurant in Houston. The beef is tender and lean. The herbs and sprouts fresh and crisp. My kids love the meatball pho. If you haven't had Vietnamese meatballs be forewarned. They are very firm and one might even say rubber like. I think they are the kind of thing you either love or don't. I can not pass on the egg rolls. These are comprised of whatever goes into a delicious Vietnamese egg roll except they are the size of the typical Chinese style egg roll. They are served with lettuce and cilantro and a wonderful fish sauce for dipping/drenching. Seriously, I could drink that stuff. Overall, it's a simple, clean, unpretentious place with friendly and attentive staff and consistent food quality all for a fair price. My small bowl (read vat for those unfamiliar) was $5.45 and the egg roll comes in under $2.00 and it's practically meal sized. No reason to drive into Houston with this place so conveniently located to Pearland and Friendswood. Note however, they are not open on Sundays.

great service, and amazing egg rolls! I like to mix some of their spicy sauce with the sweet and sour and dip the egg rolls in that. Yum!

We came here one day for lunch after visiting my grandfather at Clear Lake Regional (10-15 mins away).. I'm hardly ever on this side of town so I yelped a Pho place and went to the highest rated restaurant in the area... We had a party of 15 and they were really accommodating as well as patient with getting everyone order. I thought their broth was pretty good and their portion were just right! Nothing spectacular about Pho Yen but I'll stop by again if I'm ever in the area...

My wife and I were craving some good Asian food so we gave phone yen a try. She ordered a dish with noodles and shrimp and I order that included shrimp, beef, and chicken. Both dishes were delicious and pretty large portions. We will be going back to try other dishes.

Oh this place is above the bar. Its a nice place tucked away in the middle of Friendswood of all locations. The staff is incredibly friendly. The lady who took my order remembered what i ate the next time i came in suggested a dish based on what i had before and was blown away. Lemon Grass Tofu is the amazing. Treat yourself, take a few minutes, take a few friends and eat good ph. (also its dirt cheap, they're practically giving it away)

Great food and service. The spring rolls were good to me, not a lot of herbs and no pork. I can see how some people might prefer them with all the usual ingredients, but I usually ask for them this way anyways. The sauce that came with them just tasted like straight hoisin sauce with chopped up peanuts though. I had the mi xao don (crispy noodles with stir fry on top). It was very good, and a large enough portion to have 2 or 3 meals. Noodles were thin and crispy and better than most places I've had it. Boyfriend had the pho dac biet and said the broth was good and the noodles and beef were perfect, but pho binh is better. They had a special up for wonton and egg soup which sounded good also. Prices were extremely agreeable. $25 for apps and entrees for two? Yes please. All the employees we encountered were quick, friendly, and gracious.

Wish it would have been better, my fried food was really FRIED. The service was "ok", it was lunch and they were really busy so someone likes the food. I doubt I'll go back.

My FAVORITE place to eat when I come into the area! I was taken here by a friend 7 years ago and have taken many many people there myself since, most to become heavy repeat customers! The vietnamese egg rolls are ridiculously good, especially when dipped in the fish sauce. There is no question that I'll order that when I go. [salivating] My go-to is the chicken pho (p17, I don't even need the menu!), its what I've gotten since I've been going there and I don't ever want to stray from it when I go there because it's what I'm craving. The broth is reallllly good. The prices are reasonable still, even though they have increased quite a few times over the years. But with 2 teas, an order (3) of the vietnamese egg rolls, and 2 small (though its not small) bowls of pho you can get out of there for roughly $20. Service is always friendly and efficient. I do have one "complaint' though, and that is they used to serve limes with all of the vegetables, and they have sadly switched to lemons... NOT cool! The limes were what made it delicious! BRING BACK THE LIMES!!

While looking for a good vietnamese restaurant today, I noticed this spot on yelp and the things everyone had to say. For the most part, I completely agree. The staff was ULTRA friendly and really took care of us. The food was fantastic and the prices were even better. In all, we spent close to $40 between 3 people and had enough food for 5 people. (So yeah, there's leftovers waiting for me.) At first, I was surprised of how much the eggrolls were... then I seen their size. Great portions, great food, great service and great prices out of the norm for the area. It just doesn't get much better. 5 stars

Try the egg rolls as an appetizer. The egg rolls are fantastic. These are the best eggrolls I have eaten in Houston area. This pho soup is good also.

Let me first off start by saying.. ewwwww. This is my first 1 star review and I'm sorry Pho Yen that I have to give it to you. I've tried 3 different dishes at this place hoping to give it the benefit of the doubt but each dish left a bad taste in my mouth, literally. Now, for someone that knows their Vietnamese food, this place doesn't serve Vietnamese food. It serves something that kind of looks like vietnamese food but isn't. For those that don't know your Vietnamese food you might not know the difference, which is why this restaurant is still alive (and because it's in the heart of Friendswood.. and we all know how diverse it is here!). The worst dish I tried was the traditional Vietnamese Pho. Ladies and gentlemen, this is not Pho!! It's noodles swimming around in Cambell's beef broth with a few bean sprouts. Not a place I would recommend to anyone. Their food is greasy, the food is no where near authentic, not fresh, restaurant is too cold, but the service is alright. If the restaurant was put in the middle of chinatown houston, it wouldn't even last a day.

    (1)
  • Jonathan P.

As another reviewer said, it's very much an Americanized pho restaurant. The food is good for being said type of place and prices are reasonable. The good thing about this place is the portion size of the large pho. The quality is acceptable hence my middle of the road rating. I only had the pho too since that's what this place is called!

    (3)
  • John N.

This is a very Americanized Pho restaurant. What can you expect from a Pho restaurant in Friendswood? The Pho broth is very watered down. The Pho noodles taste like they have been sitting in water for awhile. The only thing they have going for them would be their generously-sized eggrolls. Service is better than some other Pho restaurants.

"Pad Thai" the best! Great egg rolls. I eat there 2-3 times a month.

These are the nicest people and my favorite are the Bun Ba...bowls. You are always served with a smile and they are always glad to see you. They totally love thier recipes and take great pride in them. Previously I wasent a fan but have been lately... !!

My soon to be mother in law swore by this restaurant so she decided to take me and my soon to be sister in law here after a day of shopping. I had already seen all the great reviews of this place on Yelp so I was pumped!! As I lay here with a VERY stuffed but happy stomach I'm soooo glad we tried it out! It was my first time to try Vietnamese food, and it was great! The waitress was a young girl but helped out SO much and had plenty of suggestions for each of us. We ordered egg rolls to start which were the absolute best i've ever had and they're served with lettuce and cilantro so our waitress suggested wrapping it up around the rolls before dipping it in the ridiculously good "fish sauce". Definitely a must-have. I ordered the tofu in spicy garlic sauce, and was a little worried since it was my first time trying tofu also. But I loved it! Just a little spicy but full of crunchy veggies and had a great flavor. We also ordered the entree that was sliced egg rolls on top of noodles and lettuce..and drowned it in the fish sauce of course! By the way..the fish sauce tastes nothing like fish, it's just amazing! We also ordered the Mandarin Chicken which was also to die for! The chicken was breaded with a cornmeal kind of mixture and was surprisingly good. The crab puffs that came on the side were also pretty good..nothing to rave about though. My only complaints were the bland fried rice (the lack of flavor was kind of a let down) and the environment of the restaurant wasn't the best BUT the food made up for all that!! I will definitely be going back :)

    (4)
  • Arthur V.

the b2 from here without the noodles is to die for ... the best way to describe it would be an Asian salad with pork and an egg roll ... its really my favorite item here ... you should try it and if you don't like it I'll buy you a spring roll

And all I can say is YUM. I've been going here since it first opened, and I make it a point to go at least once a week. I'm such a regular there that Peter (the owner) knows me by name and treats me so well. If he decides to make a new dish, he comes up and asks if I'd like to try an idea he's been kicking around. If you like the Singapore Noodles, Curry Chicken or Special Pad thai you can thank me later for begging him to put them on the menu hahaha! I've gotten to know his kids that work there, all the waiters and it's just like going to eat with family. My first time eating here was on my birthday and it was nothing short of magical. I remember ordering a fried rice and a Pho Ga and being utterly stupefied by how huge the portions were. And then the taste was just liberating for my taste buds. It's still my favorite chicken fried rice and every one I have I compare to the one Pho Yen has. There's plenty of variety. If you want to load up on tons of food, the Bun is the way to go. If you need to nurse a cold or just want to warm up, have some Pho. If you want flavor and spice have a spicy dish like Curry chicken or Black Bean chicken. If you want to play it safe (which I did for about a year) Sesame Chicken and Orange Chicken (Peter's take on it is different from the typical orange chicken and it's by far my favorite) are tasty and stay on your tongue and mind for days. If you want a small meal that's filling but light the Com Dia dishes are excellently balanced and well thought out. My favorite being the lemon grass chicken. I will admit over the years the quality isn't like the first time and the prices have gone slightly up. Yeah the wait staff isn't what it used to be (his son Danny was the friendliest and most helpful waiter there, but he moved on to sell phones I think, a damn shame!) but they are still friendly and attentive. It gets crowded in there, but what do you expect when the food is delicious and cheap? Word of mouth travels fast! Of course there are gonna be loud kids there and of course service might be slow. But you can't let factors that are beyond control dictate what the "experience" is going to be like. That's just asinine! I can understand it being hit or miss, but keep going. Eventually you will get that one meal that just makes you stand back and say oh my. The meal that makes you thank existence for having a tongue and the sensation of taste. It makes every single not quite there meal entirely worth it. If you cant keep this kind of persistance or if you think the food is bland (why would you? You must never have had bland food because I've lost count how many times I've eaten there and not a single meal is what I would call bland if you want bland go to Pho Hoang on scarsdale and then tell me about bland, stuck up jerk! I kid I kid!) this isn't a place for you. If you can't stand to eat around people enjoying their food and like to eat in a little private box while they wheel you around food you paid way too much for, dont go to Pho Yen. But if you like to go to a place, a place you can call your own if you give it time. Then by all means go and enjoy because if you don't, well there's just something wrong with you! It's just such an old favorite that I'd be lying if I didn't say I had some of the best meals I've ever paid for here. Every friend I've taken is becomes a believer. It's not what it used to be, but every time I go back I still leave full and happy and that's what counts most. Save the fancy dining for Paris or some other stuck up city. This is what local food is about , checking your ego at the door and preparing to eat, because at Pho Yen, you damn sure will! P.S. I forgot to mention the Egg rolls. They are the thing everyone knows Pho yen for. They are huge and they are tasty and they aren't the cabbage stuffed fried garbage most chinese restaurants serve up. They are an altogether different beast that you don't tame, they tame you. Make sure you wrap it in the lettuce provided and dip it in a mix of the fish sauce and hot sauce. Just thinking about them makes my mouth water! *LETS CATCH UP SHALL WE* My oh my oh my how the times have changed! Peter has added a dish that I just can't live without. It's not on the menu, but the Ma Po Tofu is just AMAZING and it damn well should be! This is definitely something that will convince you that tofu is more than just fodder for people who like to make jokes about hippies and health freaks. The Friday special soup is also just AMAZING. It's a flavor blitz krieg and your tounge is western europe. I don't think I've had anything like it. The new Won-ton soup is one ton of egg noodles and dumplings. It is nothing like the junk you get in a cup at any run of the mill chinese joint. Speaking of egg noodles this past saturday I was privy to another of Peter's creations. STIR FRIED EGG NOODLES. I'd liken the flavor to the pad thai, only richer and smokier. It's a new decade and pho yen is still king.

My first time going to Pho Yen Restaurant and my first time eating Pho. I was disappointed most with the service, secondly with the Pho. I asked my waiter before I ordered what vegetables and such went into the dish--he said they were on the side. Upon receiving my dish he said that there was some basil, bean sprouts, and cilantro on the side so I could add it in. I placed the cilantro on a spare plate and immediately sent the cilantro away, letting him know that my stomach cannot tolerate cilantro. He then disappeared and was not seen again until I waved him down (after my fiance had well finished his meal). I told him that the cilantro made the dish intolerable (along with the dry, non-seasoned beef) for me and that I'd like to exchange it for some Chicken pho. He said he'd have to charge me for both and as I went to respond he walked away while I was talking. I wasn't raising my voice (not that I could even if I wanted to-I'm sick) and I was just trying to make sure I understood what he said. I told him that we needed our check and would not be returning. The worst service I've had in a long time. I'll be looking for a better, more authentic Vietnamese restaurant in the future. Cheap meats and extremely terrible service.

I've always had good food and good service at pho yen. As a local resident, we have made it a sort of weekly ritual to eat here. It's got the best pho I've had, and the chinese-style dishes are good - especially when my yankee family and in-laws are in from out of town. The staff are very friendly to me and to my family. I've been particularly impressed with the service given that most of the waitstaff are high-school age and Friendswood is not an especially competitive job market for teenagers.

Its been awhile since we have eaten at Pho Yen and all I can say is that they sure have changed and for the worse. Previously I gave Pho Yen 4-5 stars but after tonight's dinner I will not go back. Did they get new owners in the last few months? Whatever, it is BAD. I ordered the Vietnamese egg rolls and instead of the small crunchy little eggrolls they were large and bland and soggy. The pho had beef so tough it was hard to swallow and also VERY bland, the noodles were stuck into a block. The other item we get is grilled beef with vermicelli and salad and my husband's meat was tough and very dry, hard actually. I will just have to drive to King Food I guess from now on.

I love pho yen and I have been coming here for years. All of the menu items are great with good pricing. Fried rice, pho, spring rolls, salads, vermicelli, and viet egg rolls etc all great. The service is lightening fast too. Tip: always ask for FRESH spring rolls, you'll taste the difference. The service is always good and they give great assistance if they leave out items or mess up your order. Just call them and they'll quickly help you. Only frustrating thing sometimes is calling in orders... some of the workers who answer seem to have very basic/little English comprehension and I don't mean for that to be rude but trying to order pho with tofu instead of meat is like a 5 minute ordeal every time. Otherwise

Portion is BIG! Service is BiG! Food is decent. We had the crispy stir fried noodles and wonton soup. I honestly would not get those again, but I'm curious to try other food on the menu. Love their traditional ice drip coffee with condensed milk!

Some of the best pho I've had in the area, heady, strong, sweet and savory smelling. I love their pho broth. More than that, they give you a HUGE amount of sprouts, fresh basil, cilantro and veggies to put on it. I don't really care for their sliced beef or meatballs--something about them don't taste 'right' to me, but my kids love them! I could eat nothing but their pho and be happy. Their rice is always really good, fluffy and just the rice amount of sticky. I like their spring rolls. My daughter likes the other rolls. Their shrimp is good too. I'll be honest: I haven't tried a huge portion of their menu--but for their takeout pho, I couldn't be happier--it's at least two portions so I save some for the next day, and it's under 10 bucks for two meals... can't beat that. They are also usually very friendly and give plenty of condiments, like hoison sauce and fresh jalapenos and such. They also pack their takeout really nicely. We definitely go back when I'm lazy and don't want to make my own pho, because I like their broth so much.

I eat here frequently when I come visit town. I love their EGGROLLS! I have had a few other items on the menu which is comparable to other Vietnamese restaurants.... But not necessarily the best I have had either. I would highly recommend if in the area- they have great service and great food!

Although service was good. I was disappointed in the food. Dishes such as C4 and B3 were not what they claimed to be. The slices of pork were really burnt fat bits and the grilled shrimp were covered and smothered in a sauce. I usually like this restaurant but last night they were off their Mo-Jo.

Bad Vietnamese food - which might carry 3 stars elsewhere, but Houston has so many awesome Viet places that's there's NO reason to stop here. The service was average at best. Nothing wrong except for not noticing how much we disliked our food. The chicken dish we ordered was hard, over fried and way over breaded. Fast food places make better - and I don't enjoy those. The rice was mushy in the fried rice (a basic dish!) and the pho was unremarkable. We left hungry and annoyed and were never offered any help with the dishes we clearly didn't eat. Not good. Won't return. Would probably be the type of mistakes for 2 stars...if it weren't surrounded by superior restaurants of the same cuisine.

I'll just start by saying, you get what you pay for and you will pay for the freshest ingredients, cooked oh so incredibly, and the size of your dish will have you looking for someone else to help you finish it. This place, though the atmosphere is kind of stale and the smell is very clinical, has great food, friendly and attentive staff who are willing to make what I order. I have no problem paying top dollar for fresh food made to order and cooked to please. I'd give this food a 9+ all day long. Go by and pick up your order. It'll become your new splurge spot.

Our food was so good and the serving size was huge, we actually saved the other half of what we didn't eat for dinner. The price is very reasonable for the size and quality of food. Mandarin chicken was great.

I've been a bad person. I've been working in the Friendswood area for years, have known about Pho Yen, yet somehow have not take the time to go until recently. And Im very glad I finally got around to it. First impression: the folks that work here are super motivated. Perhaps a bit over motivated, but I'll get to that later. Wife and I ordered a large Pho and an order of pad Thai to share. Now I've had pho at most places, but for some reason, Pho Yen has the best IMO. I usually need to dab srirachi into the soup to make the flavors come together. But that wasn't necessary here. Good on them. Never had Pad Thai before, so I can't make an honest evaluation other that I really REALLY enjoyed it. Not much of a noodles-dish type of guy, either. But they did a good job infusing flavour throughout the entire dish. The service was good. In fact, it was too good, they kept trying to bus my dishes before I was finished with them. THEY TOOK MY FORK BEFORE I FINISHED WITH IT. The waitstaff sorta hovered by the table when I asked them to come back in a few minutes to allow me time to go over the menu. So they are awkward, but awkward on the plus side, so I can forgive that. This place is definitely a "go-to" place in the Friendswood area.

Pho Yen is a descent size no frills clean Pho joint. The wait staff has always been great and the prices are very reasonable for the burbs. I was having withdrawals from lack of Pho over the past couple of weeks and feeling a little under the weather so I met a friend who lived out there for dinner. I had the beef pho with round steak and brisket. But first we ordered their famous (or what makes it famous to me) spring rolls and vietnamese egg rolls. For less than $2 each they are worth it. Probably the best vietnamese egg roll I've had. They are huge and perfectly fried. The spring rolls are massive as well and we the norm. I had the large bowl of pho. Tons of meat and noodles noted. The only thing it lacked on my opinion was a more powerful broth. The broth just seemed normal to me and was missing spice and flavor. I know they serve other food but the only other thing I've tried was the chicken vermicelli. Ultimately, I would come back for the egg rolls alone. Throw in the great service and descent food and it's a win win.

First time here and it was great! The portion size was huge and yummy! I got the wonton soup with shrimp and chicken and wasn't expecting that big of a bowl for 7.50! The chicken was lacking a little flavor but the soup broth was amazing! My cousin got the large pho and it was delicious. I will definitely be back to try other dishes.

I've been going here for 7 years, and I have literally had zero bad experiences. I really enjoy the chicken fried rice with peanut sauce on top. Don't sit at the table next to the door because the air draft gets really annoying. They are also super quick on to-go orders so if you are in a jam, they are perfect.

I've been here several times and the foods in great! I always get pho and even with the small size have enough for several leftover meals. The only drawback is the service; every time I visit there is something wrong on the bill (ex. an incorrect drink order).

Just went back. They are not at all accommodating. My wife ordered a dish with Vermicelli, cut up pork and cut up egg roll. They told us THEY ran out of pork. We asked if they could substitute beef for the pork. We were told NO, even though THEY ran out of pork. I had the pho with beef NOT tenderloin and meatballs. Food has gone down a couple a couple of notches since the last time we were here!

Living around friends wood, it's definitely a challenge to find a decent Vietnamese restaurant that serves decent pho. Luckily, with Pho Yen being just roughly 5 miles from my home, I am able to enjoy a nice bowl of pho without having to complain about its price and flavor ! A small bowl is roughly around $6.50, and when they serve a small bowl...they mean a SMALL bowl. In comparison to pho restaurants in Bellaire, their portion is quite the contrary. Despite their portion, the flavor of their pho definitely does the trick for a craving. From experience, most pho restaurants around Clear Lake have a soapy taste(its really noticeable). This place serves a variety of great dishes as well. From rice dishes to seafood!!! Oh, and their grilled pork spring rolls are good as well. For the price and serving of Pho Yen, this place definitely deserves 4 stars! Give it a must-go if you live around friendswood and League City ! They won't disappoint!

Delicious. The pho was authentic, the spring rolls huge, and the fried tofu and veg hit the spot. Can't find a single thing to complain about. Even the price is adequate to the serving portions. Go here. You will enjoy it.

I had the Curry Chicken. While it wasn't really curry, it was very tasty. This place is known for its Pho. I've had several versions of their Pho, and they have all been excellent. The spring rolls are also very good. As I was eating, the waiter brought out an order of Vietnamese egg rolls. They were definitely not standard, and I'll try them next time. Basically, Pho Yen is good food and good value. I eat here a lot.

After cheating on my go to Pho place I felt it was time to update (as you can see I'm a regular!lol) the Pho is seriously so good (I only always get the one with all the meats minus the meatballs), and the rolls are just pure awesomeness. We have also gotten the sesame chicken, and mandarin chicken all of which are super good. This is the only place we go to now when in the mood for Vietnamese or chinese. I did try the meatballs at one point and me thinking assuming it was going to be like gyzo dumpling meat (I really had no basis on this I was simply hoping it was) so I even ordered extra! Sadly to say it was nothing like dumpling meat and almost tasted like the soybean patties at the school cafeteria and they where super hard. Not sure if this is the norm like I said I had never had any before this. I wasn't a fan, and just wanted to give a heads up for anybody like me that doesn't know.

If you've been to Chinatown to have authentic Vietnamese food, you will be highly disappointed eating here. After reading rave reviews on Yelp regarding a Vietnamese restaurant gem, we decided to try it out. We ordered 2 orders of egg rolls (3 eggrolls = 1 order) and 2 orders of "Com thit nuong"(rice with "grilled" beef slices). The food was awful... egg rolls tasted as if I had ordered from an elementary cafeteria and the beef slices were NOT even slices or grilled! The beef was dried, crunchy, and shriveled compared to its authentic taste of being savory after one bite. Hesitant to give it another try after my last order...

I would recommend this restaurant. The food and the service is consistently good. If you are sick with a cold or the flu, the noodle soup will get you back on your feet. If you are well I would recommend the mandarin chicken. It has a lot of flavor. It is also my children's favorite and there is enough food to split between the two of them.

Great pho. The service was excellent and fast. They have all the typical chinese plates and a big variety of pho on the menu. You choose either a small or large pho (16 or 32oz.), there is only less than a $1 difference. Portions are huge: I've never seen an egg roll so big! The prices are pretty decent for what you are served. I highly reccomend this authentic restaurant.

The Pho is kind of tasteless. Pho Hoang over in Clear Lake is worth the extra drive.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
