so this place opened on thursday. and i went tonight (friday). therefore, i've actually been to the atx location and should get the first review icon for it. ::pouts for half a second:: the place was very crowded tonight. we arrived around 9 and already it was busy enough that we had to keep our eyes open and pounce on any available tables. last night, the opening night, we heard that it was even more crowded. that being said, the beer is delicious as always. i've been told that there are somewhere between 200-300 beers. i'm a beer fan, and my friends are too, but honestly we largely went for the dill popcorn. i don't like dill. but i love this. honestly though it's amazing. everyone should try it. but this location doesn't have it yet. also, the parking is tough because the triangle parking lots are tiny. therefore, this place gets four stars. EDIT: i neglected to mention that i thought the service was decent, but not amazing. about what you would expect from the staff at a busy pub. some people at my table used the waitress, but my boyfriend and i are impatient people and kept our tab at the bar. also, when i got tired of beer, i tried the Hummingbird Water-- a combination of cider and lindemans framboise lambic, which was very sweet but pretty delicious and tasted kinda like a watermelon jolly rancher. Sarah A, who I think works at the saucer, told me: "they have 200 beers, and the parking garage is still being built :)"

I've always enjoyed this place as do a lot of other folks, thus it is crowded, a fact that causes a lot of folks to grade this place more harshly than they would otherwise. Reminds me of Casey Stengle.... "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded." The other factor that seems to give some folks heartburn is that too many business guys or frat boys go here. Hmmmm. Who drinks beer? Business guys and frat boys. Oh, the girls wear little outfits. Meh, so be it. Personally, I don't mind. The outfits, the girls, and the customers sure are about 10x better than the standard for that genre, Hooters. The food is above average pub grub, the waitresses are pretty knowledegeable, and they have an excellent beer list.

Okay, I am a bit flustered when it comes to The Flying Suacer! Yes, the beer prices are higher than I like to pay, but I really enjoy the Wednesday Pint Nite. The scantilly clad waitresses do attract a very questionable crowd. In fact I feel quite old seeing all these young "whipper snappers" sitting around drinking a pint. But, all in all, I do enjoy the people watching after shopping at the Farmer's Market on Wednesday evenings. I wouldn't call this one of my favorite places, but since I am already in the area it will work.

It's as if the Gingerman died and became reincarnated as a mixture of Hooters, and a generic sports bar, but with a damn good beer selection. I was impressed with how much beer they served which Is the only basis that I rated this place on. As far as the atmosphere goes, I felt a little out of place since I was one of the few people between the ages of 21-28 who did not resemble an Abercrombie & Fitch model. I showed up in my most basic t-shirt and pair of jeans and quickly realized that I was not dressed properly. I believe there was a Flying Saucer in Dallas long before there was here, so maybe that Dallas feeling of dressing to the nines everywhere you go still applies for other FS locations. I can't say anything about the food because I didn't have any, so I'll leave that alone. I'd pretty much come here only to have my pick of an array of domestic and foreign beers.

This is a great place to take go with your friends on a weekday to get cheap(er) beer. Oh, and go ahead and bring your dog along too because their outside patio is pretty massive. Tons and tons of different beers. I like this place and I am not even a beer drinking (gasp! I know). They have a decent wine and liquor selection and most people can find a beer or type of beer that you will like. My only downside with this place is that the service is very hot and cold. We have had good waitresses (yes I say waitresses because they are ALWAYS girls) and we have had crappy ones. I realize the "Hooter's Effect" may come in to play here because the girls all wear cute little plaid skirts and tight tops, therefore some of the girls may not be hired based on their stellar customer service. BUT, that doesn't mean you shouldn't at least TRY to earn your tips. With that being said, I still go there all the time with my hubby, friends, and sweet puppy. Plus once I've had enough beer/wine/liquor everyone seems friendly :-)

In all fairness I've tried the Saucer two more times since my review. The first time after the sizzle I had a GREAT waitress. Happy, attentive and a smile with fast service. Today, I find myself with the same waitress I had the day I ripped the Saucer and guess what? She let my beer glass run dry as the Gobi desert. I had to take my glass to her and she said, "I couldn't see your glass." Uh....yeah. I've come to the conclusion that this place is ok but this one waitress sucks.

What's not to love- all the beer you could ever want, and very good soft pretzels with spicy mustard or cream cheese. There's a great big patio and you can bring your dog. I'd be here every day if I lived closer!

am willing to give this place another chance because a) i liked the one in dallas and b) there are so many positives here, but man o man, my one and only experience here was SO under paar, someone else is going to have to buy when/if i go back. i met a couple friends there, and it *was* a friday evening, but i didn't show up expecting a table or a place at the bar. we are all perfectly happy standing around drinking our beers, so the outrageously long and slow line to get beers was not an really an issue. what WAS an issue was that when i got up to the bar, i couldn't catch any of the bartendresses attention, not even a glance. i understand that they have to wear the stupid uniforms and in order to make tips they gotta work it, but come on, give a girl a break, eh? finally a guy next to me flagged one down. reluctantly, it would seem, i was served a beer. yay a beer! the wrong beer! she misheard me or forgot or whatever, but it took another eon to flag her down and get it replaced, with much sourpuss attitude. meanwhile, while i was standing there, i had a sudden scent-caused flashback to elementary school. you know that stuff they used to throw on a spot where someone barfed? it was that smell, and they seemed to be using some really awful scented candles on the bar to cover it up. i don't know if they were having plumbing issues that day or what, but i was starting to feel really nauseated. i moved away from the bar (mostly to escape the smell, i had scored a barstool) and then was told i could not stand next to the tables because i was in the servers' way and that i should get a seat. where was i supposed to get a seat? was she afraid she would lose out on tip if i was standing and getting my own? we tried to get another beer, but given we had what we assume was the wrong chromosome combination, we couldn't catch a break so we bailed. i understand the place is still new and ironing out some probable logistical and building issues, but the service was absolutely without excuse and the attitude of the waitress would have earned her an entire $.02 had we been able to find a seat after that. there are plenty other (locally owned!) bars in town with equal or better beer selections, that are less crowded and have far superior service, so i don't feel much of a loss here.

I'll give two stars in the hope that the saucer will take some of the people away from the Draught house. Every time i've been there it seems like i'm at a airport bar. Overpriced. I wish i could be more help with this review.

I just found this place while meeting a friend for after-work drinks. They have a humongous beer selection on tap (a few pages worth in the menu), as well as food. Biggest highlights was being able to do a beer flight to sample several beers. I did the German flight, which served five different types of beer in shot glasses (approximately 2 oz each), with a description of what you're drinking. Great for those who want to become more brew savvy, and helpful for anyone who want to try a variety without risking wasting money on something new you don't like. The crowd was pretty mixed - professional and students - and it got crowded quickly. Service was quick and friendly - even when it got crowded. Another bonus for guys - all the server girls were really pretty. Minus - beer is priced slightly higher than usual.

We went there for my birthday party on a Monday night. Parking was at the free Triangle parking garage next door - perfect. (There's even a little walkway going directly from the garage to the Saucer!) Plenty of seating inside and outside, including plenty of plush furniture, but it was surprisingly non-empty even on that night. The decor/audience looked fairly young and suburban. I had the Brat plate and it was acceptably fab. The beer selection was good. It would have been great, but there was a LOT of stuff that was sold out. Maybe it's a seasonal thing, I dunno, but when my wife demands cider on the $2.75 draft night and the only cider they have is bottles, we have a problem. There were one or two other things I vaguely remember trying to order but was not able to. Of course, the beer itself was excellent. This place does not *quite* compare with the Gingerman. To be fair, the G-Man is, IMHO, the best pub in town. Your choice of pub will depend on whether you will accept, in the G-Man's case, the best beer selection and decor in a 50-mile radius, at the cost of expensive beers, expensive parking, and a lack of real food.

The Flying Saucer has provided me with such an education on beer. The selection of brews, both draught and bottled, is constantly changing. The UFO club encourages you to try new brews and to do this relatively responsibly, as you are limited to counting three beers a day toward your rewards.

A good selection of beers and terrible, terrible food at a soulless cookie-cutter hellhole. They show terrible American sports all the time, but never show any rugby or football like a proper pub. The waitresses have to wear these ridiculous skirts that they seem ashamed off. I imagine they try to avoid being seen, which explains the bad service. Sort of like an Applebee's with better beer... and patronized by total chumps. Go to the Draughthouse nearby instead.

Great beer selection: I got sucked into doing the 200 beer knurd thing...so I'm there a lot more than I should be. Food is okay, but I'm pretty tired of what I normally get, I never crave the food like I do with the beer :) I like the goat cheese salad with chicken or the chicken sand. Pricey but they get my $$ about twice a week.

If you are a beer connoisseur then go! Some of the beers are rare in the area. If your a Bud and Coors kinda person don't bother. I love beer. At one point I loved it too much...It showed. Partly due to the flying saucer. They have something like almost 200 beers on tap and over a 100 bottled. Depends on which one you go to. There's another one in Ft. Worth. Whatever, it's still insane. They have a club card where if drink all the beers on tap you get your name on a commemorative plate which is proudly displayed on their wall of alcoholics. Oh and a shirt too. I think you get a free membership to AA if you try all 200 in one night. What sux about it is that you have to try all the $h*##y ones too. I've had some crappy ones. Stay away from the Korean beer Hite. I don't think they have it but in case they do. I highly recommend the Irish cream wexle, and the two dogs lemon brew.

This place feels like so many corporate chain bars do, but it does have a great selection of beer, and decent specials. The regular prices are high, but you are paying, generally, for better beer than you would get at a normal bar. Overall, I am satisfied with the flying saucer for what it is, but it is nothing special. I only go semi-often because of its proximity.

I'm a fan. But I feel a little like I am betraying a long time friend...the Draught House. Although I shouldn't feel too bad because it's hard to compare the two beer taverns. The Flying Saucer is great because it is new and still smells nice. I love the comfortable lounge furniture and wide open spaces. When weather is bad (like it is this January) then the F.S. is a better choice than D.H. due to the simple fact that you have room to spread out inside. I don't however like the scantily clad waitresses, although my boyfriend didn't seem to mind. They were helpful and very nice to me, but I just don't feel their uniforms are necessary. What else? The beer club is cool and we signed up! Only 197 more beers to drink till I get me a party! Oh, the food! I had their chips/salsa/queso and it was good. I would order it again. But what I CRAVE is their beer cheese soup that is served in a hollowed out bread bowl. YUM! In summary, I like this place but get there at 4:55 PM at the latest to get a spot on the sofas. Use your waitresses to help you pick a beer you will like; they are helpful but try not to stare at the short skirts. Join the beer club, it's a fun and a good excuse to drink more beer. Try their food, it is much better than plain old bar food. And last but not least - let's not forget the D.H. because they have been very good to us!!

My husband and I live less than a mile from here and it's definitely our go-to place for a drink or a quick dinner. It's just what you want your neighborhood bar to be -- relaxed, fun, with good food and great beer. The place makes it easy to relax, with a good-sized bar, lots of big tables, booths, long outdoor tables, and squashy couches and eclectic coffee tables in the back. While it's clear the waitstaff are hired for their looks (and their ability to pull off the teeny schoolgirl kilt look), they are also about the best waitresses I've ever had. They are courteous, helpful, friendly, but also professional in the way good high-end restaurant staff are. And they know their beers. You can ask about any beer on the very extensive menu and they know just what it tastes like, what the style is, where it comes from -- anything you want to know. And these ladies (and they all are, I think, ladies -- I haven't seen any male waitstaff there) are cool under pressure. Even when the place is packed, they get every order right and keep tabs on who needs a refill or who's been waiting for their food. One night when the place was clearly crazy and the entire staff was killing themselves, it took awhile for my meal to come out. Our waitress must have come over five times to apologize. Eventually the manager came over, explained they were slammed but said that was no excuse for not taking care of us and then said the meal was on the house. 100 points for that one. Perfectly handled. And food, while not fantastic, is very good for a place that's mostly about beer drinking. As for the beer, if you like beer, this is the place. Huge selection. Lots of variety. Lots of intriguing options. As I said, perfect neighborhood spot.
