This has become a regular for us. The curries and noodle dishes are DELISH (and I have had most of them). Thai Passion's curries are really worth trying; they have a greater dimension of flavor than many other places. And I wasn't a huge fan of noodle dishes until Thai Passion. This location seems to be a little "cursed"--several previous tenants came and went before Thai Passion. They did a nice job of refurbishing the interior of the building. Don't be dissuaded by the ugly exterior! I sincerely hope this place is here to stay. It's so great to have delicious food right in the 'hood!

I first went here since finding a deal on Groupon, then, fell in love with this place. Cant go wrong with adding beef to any of the dishes. Its very tender and flavorful. Tapioca and rice pudding deserts are amazing. Plus very friendly staff.

My daughter and I love Thai food and had what we thought was a good place in Cedar Park, but decided to try Thai Passion since were close. We might never go anywhere else. From the sweet sausage appetizer to the lychee flavored sake to the green curry, larb and sticky rice with mango, everything we had was first class, flavorful and well made. Our wait staff was attentive without hovering, and when she saw that I had finished eating without finishing my dish, she came over to inquire if there was anything wrong with it (there wasn't, I was just stuffed at that point). I think it would have been remade if I'd had a problem, but since everything was so good, obviously I can't say for sure.

Got a response from the owner yesterday. She's responding about the overcharge. Super apologetic & happy to take ownership of resolving the problem. Offered a couple of options to earn our business back. People do make mistakes. Unfortunately it's often rare for them to quickly admit and try to correct the mistake. Thai Passion's owner who just Yelp messaged me about this did a great job. We'll definitely gp back to Thai Passion on 183 because other than this glitch the food, location, service, etc... are some of the best in town hands down.

This review is based 100% on my personal customer service experience: Don't try to use your Community Impact Buy 1 Entree, Get 1 Free here on Saturday or Sunday!! The only exception clearly stated on the coupon is an expiration date. The owner also said that they would not honor a digital coupon, even though it was also not stated on the coupon. At checkout, the owner just refused our coupon and said that Community Impact Northwest Austin hasn't corrected their coupon for 4 months, even though they still pay for advertising. I asked him what he would do if we didn't have enough money to cover the bill and he said, "We are trying to stay open. We have to make money." As a business owner, I wouldn't put money into advertising that didn't help my business. I was happy to see our favorite Thai restaurant open a north location, but we won't be back. It is the responsibility of the owner to make sure that the coupon was taken down 4 months ago when the problem started. He wants to make money and grow his business, but that is not the way to do it! :(

Yuck. Got to-go food here at 10pm and the place was empty when I went in. The staff was very friendly and I looked forward to enjoying an excellent Thai meal. Unfortunately my wife and I were HUGELY disappointed in the flavor. 1. Gang-Dang curry: not good at all, I've had curry at dozens of thai places and this is by far the worst. Previous reviewers mentioned the curry had a greater "dimension" of flavor. I'm not sure what they meant by that but it was AWFUL. It tasted bland with unfamiliar (and not welcome) undertones. Also the rice that they gave tasted very old and developed this gross texture when you mixed it with the curry. 2. Basal noodles with tofu: Got this based on previous high ratings. Unfortunately it disappointed just as much as the curry. It was just fettuccini noodles. It was way too greasy, and whatever oil they used tasted rotten, we got terrible tastes in our mouth afterwards and just felt greasy and gross. I'm not sure what went wrong tonight... We expected MUCH better from Austin.. :(

The food is awesome!!! I was hesitant when I saw the outside of the building but inside it is super charming and the food is amazing and the prices rock. You even get a soup and salad bar free when you order an entree. This includes apps that are super yummy!!!

Great service, terrific food. No better Thai food in north Austin. They serve a reasonably priced delicious weekend brunch with $7 all you can drink mimosas.

Seems like they had QUITE a turn around with their service - our server was delightful, polite, and witty. Four of us dined at Thai Passion recently, and we had a GREAT time! However, the food - 2 of us ordered the larb (minced meat) dish, and it was really bland and kind of dry. The other dishes (and the shrimp rolls!) were okay, but I didn't experience the explosion of flavor I did the time before. Perhaps it was because we didn't order there correct dishes this time, but I found myself a little disappointed. I'll definitely be back to try and review again. Hoping our mediocre food experience was just a fluke!

I had an extremely crap day at work yesterday and needed a serious dose of comfort food when dinnertime rolled around. I had read reviews about the slow service here (and even saw their 'be patient with us' sign on the wall) but we had zero issues. We hardly waited at all in fact. Got seated right away, they brought water before we even asked, and the food was out in a flash. They were fairly busy so it wasn't because we were the only table in the place either. We started with the shrimp spring rolls and the peanut sauce was unlike any I'd had before. It was vinegary and tangy with a bunch of crushed peanuts floating on top instead of being blended into the sauce. We scooped the sauce on the rolls with a spoon so that we could get peanuts in every bite. Yum! Normally my tester dish at any new Thai place is pad Thai, but I wasn't feeling it so I ordered pad see ew with tofu instead. The tofu was perfectly cooked, not at all soggy, and the sauce was slightly sweet but when mixed with the table side hot chili paste it was perfect. It also had carrots and broccoli which gave much needed crunch. I loved it. My husband ordered the Pud kra-team plik thai stir fry which had onions, garlic, mushrooms, broccoli, celery, cilantro, beef, and a side of rice adorned with the cutest heart ever made from a carrot slice. He cleaned his plate. I wanted to but I made myself save half so that I could eat it for lunch today. The bill for all that was under $30 which is great and they even bring you a few hard tamarind candies to finish off the meal. I had never had one before and surprisingly they were delicious! Next time my Thai craving hits I will want to come back here.

Pretty average thai food here. The Pud Thai (not Pad Thai, this one has rice noodles) is pretty good, hard to go wrong with this one! I also had their curry of the day for Monday, which was tasty for the most part, but wasn't as spicy as the two peppers suggested, and had too much bamboo. Doesn't come with enough rice either, IMO. You can also have a free small salad, if you'd like, but it's not anything special, basically just lettuce and peanut sauce. Overall, the food here is acceptable. But what is terrible here, is the service. Always takes a couple minutes to get seated, despite the place not being very busy. My table was brought rice with the Tom Yum soup for some reason, and then the waitstaff took it back after asking each other if the soup was supposed to come with rice or not. Finally, there was a problem with the check. At first, we got a check for the whole table, so we asked to split it. The waiter offered to split it evenly four ways, but seemed to be reluctant to split it by what was ordered, although we got him to do it anyway. Of course, the check wasn't split correctly the first time... ugh. The food here isn't good enough to deal with this level of service.

It's not often I feel compelled to write negative reviews. For this one I am so appalled by the lunch service we are getting.. Yes I'm writing this as I still sit in the restaurant. Having arrived we got sat promptly.. But since then everything has been a slow boat to Thailand!! No kidding 10mins for menus, 15 mins for ordering, 20 mins to get someone to come see us about having a groupon.. Funny thing is we ordered from the lunch express menu and an hour in we are still waiting to have our table cleared.. To make it worse the food was just meh!! Not the flavourful food I expected from Thai Passion.

After reading several reviews I knew not to expect good service. After arriving there it was confirmed that we would not receive good service from the flyers that were posted throughout the restaurant. I find that weird and strange, but, at the same time I respect the message they are sending. "We care. We are trying". This review will not judge the inept poor service. I will say this. My take on this is poor management. There was no manager floating about calling shots or interacting with customers. None that we saw anyway. As other Yelpers have said, don't expect good service. Still ironing out the kinks. They are asking for our patience as they do this. So, let's give it to them. But, for how long? What you can expect to get here is good food. Fresh, spicy (if you like), and, delicious! We popped in during lunch. They have a pretty decent lunch xpress menu. Shortly after being seated they automatically bring your "salad" which has peanut dressing instead of ginger. It's lettuce either way, and, it's fresh and chilled. Sadly, no cup of soup accompanies the lunch deal. That was a disappointment. We ordered the passion rolls, pasta basil with fresh/soft tofu very hot, and, the pud ginger with shrimp. The food was freaking delicious. The rolls were vegetarian and didn't come out greasy. Tasty little boogers they were indeed! I'm not a vegetarian and I loved these rolls. My partner liked his pud ginger. Now this says a lot. He is the most uncultured eater ever. Seriously. Getting him to go to an Asian restaurant takes a lot of effort. Having him eat everything on his plate and tell me it was good is a fucking miracle! My pasta basil kicked ass!! The fettuccine was cooked perfect and that basil was in there people! The onion and peppers were nice and crisp and the spice was spot on! My only complaint is they fucked up on the tofu. I asked for fresh/soft, they fried it anyway. I love Thai food and have eaten so much at so many places that I only need to visit a joint once (usually) to know whether or not the kitchen knows what it's doing. You can bet your sweet ass I'll be back. Again and again. The food is delicious, fresh and MSG free. I will be patient with the service (one of the waitresses is from Muang Thai) as long as they keep the kitchen on game. I'm glad to have them up North. **NO MSG**

This place is a joke. Based on suggestions here on Yelp, I ordered the "Thai Passion Noodles" to go and paid with cash ($11). Cons: * No mention of carrots on the menu and there were a LOT of carrots. * Burned the egg roll that came with it. * Didn't give me eating utensils of any type, didn't ask if I needed them. * The broth at the bottom of the dish tasted gross, as did the cucumbers that were soaking in it. Because of the last point, I didn't finish my meal. Pros: * Lots of protein, cooked well * Noodles were good

I visited this place for the first time in July 2015 for lunch. I had the Thai fried rice with chicken. The food was bland and didn't really have any taste. I asked to substitute brown rice for the white rice and I was told no problem. The rice substitution was made but when the bill came they charged me $2 to substitute. It wasn't mentioned when I ordered. When I questioned it, they said, it is right here...pulling out the dinner menu (that I didn't order from). No mention of the surcharge on the lunch menu and they refused to budge on it. Well, guess what? For $2 you lost a customer for life. I was going to give it another try with another dish, but not now. Good luck on staying in business here. Most in that building fail within a couple of years.

E m could have written my review because our experience was almost exactly like hers. we tried thai passion recently during their first week of business at this location. and while there were many missteps in the service and kitchen delivery, when the food finally came out it was truly delicious. i am giving them four stars based on the quality of the dishes - and holding back on rating the service because i think and assume and hope it will get better once they are fully staffed and work out the kinks. The missteps included there being no hostess at the hostess station to greet us and our having to stand there for several minutes in plain view while we were ignored by the 6 staff members we could see (some of who appeared to not be doing much). we suspected problems when we noticed that of the 12 tables that were seated before us, only one had food. And, of course, the wait once we were seated was a big misstep. While it took a reasonable 2 minutes to receive our thai tea after ordering, we waited 30 minutes for our appetizers - which were cold spring rolls and a bowl of tom kha. Entrees were served at bout the 50 minute mark. And when the entrees arrived, we had to ask for serving spoons and plates. But all of that being said, the food was really good. Hot foods were served hot, and cold were cold - so I think this was a kitchen problem and not a service problem. the spring rolls were freshly made so the wrappers were soft and flavorful (not ice box cold as some places try to serve them). The tom kha was rich and delicious. The mus man curry, which we had with chicken, was our favorite dish. we also had the thai passion noodles with shrimp, which was less impressive though still tasty. as i said, my four stars is based on the quality of the food alone - because i believe the service and kitchen kinks will be worked out. the staff we encountered were friendly and apologetic. knowing that they were short staffed, i wish thai passion had considered opening with an abbreviated menu that they could manage because first impressions are so very important and i am afraid that some people will be turned off by this type of first experience. we'll be back in a few weeks once they have a chance to settle in - and we expect and hope that the service and kitchen will have stepped up to give this delicious food the respect it deserves.

This Thai Passion location is brand new. Growing pains are to be expected. This is the new location for their original downtown location that recently had to move. The atmosphere is totally different, but the food is just as good as always. I have a special fondness for Thai Passion because it is the first Thai food I ever tried. And now we north siders have our own location. Woohoo... We were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Our server was attentive and refilled our hot tea often. They did originally bring me the totally wrong food (green curry instead of yellow), but corrected that within several minutes. No big deal. As I said before, this is a new location and they've only been open for a couple of weeks. I don't expect perfection...yet... In a few months, I will. Update - most recent visit: food was not very good. Apps were ok. Lowering stars to 3. Probably would come here for the rice balls only at this point until they get their staff fully trained :(

I've been trying to convince someone to come here with me. I love Thai food and heard that this place is child friendly. I finally got tired of waiting and went by myself (with my 2 year old). We got there right when it opened and ended up scheduling a last minute appointment, so we had to be in and out in half an hour. The child room was so great to have! Made for such a more relaxed dining experience, which families with kids don't get to have very often. He enjoyed playing with the toys, and also sitting on the cushions and looking out the window watching the cars race by. There was an appetizer bar, and my son and I both found things we enjoyed, although I would have wish for a more peanutty peanut sauce. 2 out of the 3 soups on the appetizer bar were vegan, and the third had chicken. They also told me they don't put fish sauce in their vegetarian dishes. I ordered vermicelli noodles with tofu, which were a little boring, but my son liked them and since we were sharing a dish I didn't want to order the curry, which is spicy. The vegetables were to raw for his preference, but I enjoyed them. I'd definitely like to go back and try some other items on the menu. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I only feel bad that, since we were in a hurry, I didn't stay and clean up the toys.

I work downtown and used to eat at the Thai Passion on 7th Street. When it closed, I was happy to hear that it reopened near my house in NW Austin. I live pretty close so we get take-out there a lot. Thai Passion isn't the best Thai food in Austin, but it is pretty tasty. My daughter loves the pad thai, while I like the green curry, and my wife likes the Thai fried rice. The food we have ordered has all been good, and they have been very friendly when I pick the food up. I really want to see the business succeed here, but I'm worried because I feel the building is too big for the amount of business they have. There are so many people who live around here that it is amazing to me that it isn't pulling in more customers.

Difficult menu decisions. That's how it was for us when we were presented with both the lunch and dinner menus when we asked if we could do green curry on yellow curry day. Thank you for doing that. And also allowing us to "Go Dutch" when we were receiving our checks. Something that was explicitly written on the menu as being forbidden (why is that?). Six of us stopped in for lunch to try out this newly opened Thai spot that moved uptown from their original location. Considering they just opened... they need to quickly hire some more wait staff or restructure their POS system. That said, the food came out all at once, quickly and hot. And very delicious. I highly enjoyed the "Dancing Seafood" hot plate with large muscles, squid, scallops, shrimp and mushrooms served in a wonderful Tom-Yum based sauce over onions and carrots. The entree came with their Thai soup and salad bar. What a great idea. I have to mention that this dish is listed as "very spicy" - I asked them to make it mild, which they did, and good thing because if what I had was mild, the regular would have made my face melt off like the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark. A co-worker went with the the jumbo lump crab and shrimp fried rice. And my boss ordered the green curry. Both were highly enjoyed. I can't wait to try them both. And wow, finally, excellent Thai green curry up here in North West Austin. The restaurant is very spacious and comfortable. Lots of natural light. Plenty of parking. And a great sounding audio system playing jazz. I look forward to returning and making this place a regular lunch spot for our office. Keep up the great work!

I came in here for dinner last night and it was ok. It wasn't knock your socks off great and I've definitely had better, but it was alright. We came in and we were seated immediately. The hostess and our waitress were very friendly and helpful. We actually had friends join us at the last minute and they were very accommodating. The restaurant is nicely decorated with statues and green colored walls and they have many tables. It wasn't very busy when we were there. Anyways, we ordered the rice balls for an appetizer and they were decent. There was a fresh salad and cucumbers that accompanied the rice balls - with peanut sauce as well as a mildly spicy sauce. They were good. I ordered the Pud Cashew with Chicken. The veggies were really good, and the sauce was really good. The rice came with a carrot shaped like a heart on it, which was a cute touch. Unfortunately the rice seemed a little overcooked. The chicken in my dish also had an odd flavor to it - where it was poor quality meat or possibly previously frozen and had gotten freezer burned. I wasn't fond of my dish because of that. It did have plenty of cashews though, they didn't skimp on those, as some places do. All in all, three stars for middle of the road here. Good service, decent place but they need to fix their chicken issues. I'd come back for another try.

Just had the buffet today, they provide quite a good selections despite some that I felt out of place such as bacon, breakfast sausage, and eggs (very western for a Thai restaurant) Soup and other food selections has good and strong flavor. Pad Thai and Pad Ke Mao (pardon the spelling) may turn up to be spicy for others (not for my personal standard but I do like hot stuff). Interesting dessert with rice cake and coconut, taste better when it comes hot n fresh. Overall, it's good and I would come again

I am happy there is a Thai place near. I love Thai! We tired the Pad Thai and some mystery seafood dish. Both were great. Especially the broth with the seafood dish. We had the shrimp in a blanket for an appetizer. It will be nice to see everything get in order since they are so new. It is a cute place on the inside. I think when they have a happy hour special this will be a rather cool place to go. I will go again!

My daughter and I wandered in here for an impromptu lunch after visiting the post office across the street. The hostess was friendly enough and gave my daughter crayons. We were seated quickly and our order was taken quickly. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. I ordered the Thai Passion Noodles which was basically Vietnamese bun. That's why I'm thinking I ordered the wrong thing. After we finished eating, we waited and we waited and we waited. Finally, I caught the attention of someone who could bring us our ticket. All in all it was a fine experience, perhaps if I return I will try the pad kee mao.

I love Thailand and Thai food and frequent at least 10 Thai restaurants in Austin. I've been to Thailand many times, my wife is Thai, my Mom lives in Chiang Mai, and I cook some pretty good Thai food. Although this is a new location, Thai Passion has a long history and heritage in Austin. The owner, Gene, is very well known in the Thai and restaurant community here. He really has a passion for presenting Thai food and a good experience. The food is great and as real as you can get on this side of the globe. Gene and the real Thai kitchen staff can whip up almost any dish you can think of, if you don't see it on the menu. The decor is beautiful and comfortable, as a good Thai restaurant should be. Because it's not just about the food, it's the experience. Get to know Gene, Vara the manager, and the staff and you''ll start to feel like family. There's also a party room in the back with karaoke.

My husband decided to triy this place for our anniversary lunch and I am glad we did! It's a lovely place. The decor is inviting and the service is great. I really like that they greet you with your water and complimentary salad as soon as you are seated. It's very welcoming and I was starving so I was happy to be able to nibble on something while checking out the menu. We chose the sausage and the spring roll apps. Both were quite good, especially the sausage. I had the Pud Thai with shrimp and was very pleased with it (despite the shrimp still having the tails on which is something I don't usually like in these types of dishes). I've had similar dishes at other Thai restaurants and have always been slightly unhappy because they tend to be too sweet. However, Thai Passion got the seasoning exactly right. It was just just the right balance of sweet and savory. I will definitely be going back to try more of the menu soon!

After my initial thumbs-down review, I gave the place a 2nd try - after the owner/manager replied to my review & comments. I'm glad I did. I figured any place that takes reviews seriously and crafts such nicely considered responses deserves another try. Props to you, Dang. Anyhow, I called in an order and did "take out" (not the best way to judge any restaurant's food, but we were in the mood to eat at home). I'm planning to go back and "dine in" next time. The food was definitely promising. The Tom Yum soup was exceptional...I thought it was a 10/10. Rich flavorful broth with great vegetable, citrus, lemon grass and just the right amount of fish sauce. I liked how the broth was unstrained (so the diced onions, tomato bits and lemon grass were still in it). Most places strain the 'good stuff' out and just serve thin broth. You can make a meal out of the large version of this soup. Very satisfying and just delicious. The Muss-Mun Beef was decent. It had a nicely flavored sauce, but I wish they would have let the beef "stew" in the sauce longer to tenderize it, instead of cooking the beef and then just mixing it into the sauce at the end. I'd prefer the sauce a bit thicker and with more peanuts in it. But the flavor was quite good. The Chicken Pud-Ped with basil was spicy enough to put hair on your chest...but that's the way it's supposed to be :) Yum. Flavor was great.

PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING TO THAI PASSION!!! Ok, now that I have your attention...this is the SAME Thai Passion as the downtown location that closed, they apparently had to move quickly and so took this spot. We've eaten at the downtown location for years and it is fabulous so I expected great things from this restaurant. I will proceed to give you the good news and bad news. Good news: food is fresh and tasty Thai food (in fact I'm eating the leftovers this morning as I type). The Thai Passion noodles are excellent as is the yellow curry, the Pud Thai was a little less fabulous than normal but I expect it was a fluke, it normally is very good. Bad news: service is embarrassingly bad, wait staff disorganized and confused, interior oddly retrofitted from previous restaurants located in this spot. So, because we had eaten at the downtown location before we were used to at least 2 or 3 smiling faces at the front as we entered. This new location was like entering a tomb. Picture an empty hostess stand with the door to the restrooms right behind it. Look around, no staff. Then look to your right, 2 people at a table, they look up. Are they pleading for us to help them escape? Perhaps. Their table is flush up against a low bar - I'm guessing since they don't have their liquor license yet they decided to put tables there. It looks awkward. We decide to stay and see if someone will greet us. Wait staff hurry by occasionally, not making eye contact, probably hoping we would just turn and walk out. After being told someone would come help us twice with no one coming, someone finally takes our take-out order. She says it will be 30 min for our food. I asked if I can get a beer while we wait she says we are welcome to go someplace else to get a beer and come back (remember - no liquor license yet). Oh so sad. telling patrons to go to another establishment. Since we live 5 minutes away we just go home and I make a margarita. When we come back we stand there and wait (again) until someone notices us. A server comes over and we proceeded to have a confusing interchange about whether we had already ordered. She goes into the back then comes out and says 5 more minutes. Five minutes later another woman brings our bag, hands it too us and says, "you paid already right" as she stars to walk away. Um no. We haven't paid. Tempting as it was we did the right thing and called her back and paid. The food was hot and good, the chicken is very fresh, the tofu is tasty and the curry was delicious - but that won't matter. They won't last long with such bad atmosphere and customer service. There are simply too many good restaurants up here (including MuangThai right up 183). We knew about the downtown location so we were willing to give them a break but other customers won't. If Thai Passion reads this, I would suggest putting up a sign that informs your customers that you are adjusting to your new space, let them know the wait times will be a bit longer (kind of like a pardon our mess sign) offer them a free coupon for their next visit, and please, please have a smiling hostess up front AT ALL TIMES. This business is all about customer service, you really seem like you don't care at all, and that is a death sentence. Good Luck, I'll be rooting for you!

After reading the reviews, we almost didn't go inside this restaurant. I'm glad we did! We got there around 6pm. The appetizer was great! The curry was delicious, and our main courses were by far the best we've had in a lonnnnnng time. The servers were very kind and attentive. My glass was never empty and our food was served quickly. By the time we left, the restaurant was nearly full. We overheard several guest talking about how yummy their meals were. We will definitely be back!

When I have to have my Thai, it will be at Thai Passion!!!!! This is the best Thai food in Austin, honest.....and it is family owned and operated right here in Austin Texas. The original location at 7th and Congress had to move. It was the closest location to where I work. I could not wait for them to open this new location at 13376 N. HWY. 183 as it is the closest location to my home. Yes, they are in a new location and are in the process of re-staffing and training. If you do not understand that, then please.....have some patience.......you will not regret it. Some of my favorites are, Larb with beef, Gang-Dang with chicken, crab fried rice, fish cakes, spring rolls with shrimp and the shrimp in a blanket.....and don't forget to get some Tom-yum soup. Enjoy!!!

Went last night with the family. Everyone enjoyed it. The service was friendly and attentive. Had the Tom Kha Tofu Soup (very good), Spring Rolls (good), Satay (very good), Larb Gai (bland), Cashew Chicken (good-would have been Excellent if not for over cooked chicken)Penang Beef (very good) and Pas Si Ew (very good). Here's a tip: When you go, definitely ask to be seated in the main dining room, with the clean modern decor with thai accents. If you have children they will want to seat you in their secondary room. This room has small tables, small chairs and looks like the continental breakfast room at a cheap hotel. It's kind of an embarrassment, but I'm sure they have plans to spruce it up. After all they just opened. If I could give this restaurant a 3.5 I would but choose 4 because of how nice the staff was. This restaurant should do just fine. I will return!

I totally agreed with the other Yelpers about the service being RUDE! I came in to pickup a to-go order. A couple walked in right before me and quickly got greeted and seated but the waiter/host did not came back for me. Then a waitress walked out of the restroom (which oddly faces the entrance) gave me a rude side eye, ignored me and walked right pass me to around the bar!! She couldn't even stop to crack a welcoming smile! She then just stood behind the bar counter facing directly at me with another waiter and both continued to disregard me standing there! Finally a waiter (older guy) was on his way to the kitchen and saw me there and looked over at the two idiots and gave them a "what the hell" look. So he kindly came and helped me. I have been a loyal customer of the downtown and Burnet location in the past so I was excited to see that they recently moved near my neighborhood. I am just disappointed with the service. It was horrible to walk in and got disregarded on purpose. I am giving them 3 stars because the food was still delicious and I like to continue to support Thai Passion. I will gladly update my review once their customer service improves.

Me and my family had a craving for Thai food tonight and had been meaning to try this place. We were not disappointed in the least bit. I am very glad we didn't rely on the prior reviews which were less favorable. We were pleasantly surprised to hear live music as we walked in and they had a really good band from Indiana called, "The Ember Jar" who were just on a mini tour through Texas. They were excellent and their voices were as smooth as glass, so I bought a CD. We started with an order of the fresh Spring Rolls and Shrimp in a Blanket which were quite tasty. Next, we moved onto a boiling pot of the Tom Kha soup which was tasty but the wished we'd gone with the shrimp instead of the chicken. I have forgotten the official name of what I ordered but it was the last item listed under specialties and it was Tilapia and was very good. My husband got the F5 which was the Pud Cashew with Chicken and my daughter go the F1 which was another Pud dish with basil. All was good but a little mild for our preference. They told us they were all medium spicy but they were mild. We finished our meal off with the waitresses suggestion of mango sticky rice which was very delicious and not too heavy. The wait staff was super nice and attentive and the food service was fast. We will definitely go back but will ask for more spice. I plan on trying the parang next time and maybe on a Monday to listen to open mic nite.

Excellent atmosphere, server was on point. Ordered spring rolls for the appetizer: nicely done. Rolled perfectly and came with an amazing peanut sauce. Main course: Pad Thai and Pork Gang Dang featuring red curry and coconut milk. Both were nicely done. The heat from the curry was perfect and paired well with the other ingredients. Pad Thai was incredible. I recommend it highly. They also give you a little teapot for hot tea. A nice touch.

The food is EXCELLENT! My wife and I tried the new place in the neighborhood, we are so happy we did. She had a soup (tom kha) she gives it 5 stars. Then she ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. Again 5 stars. I had A2 it is amazing, best Thai food I have had in Austin. Price is about $12-$16 per person

I was sad to see the downtown location close but was delighted to see it was opening in my neighborhood. Ordered takeout tonight. Got there and the food was ready on time. The thai rolls were excellent as usual as was the Thai Passion curry (a favorite of mine). Also tried the Thai Mussels which I had not ordered before. Part of the reason why I ordered them because I was curious how they were going to make them to go. They put it one of those plastic containers that they put soup and curry in. Smart and they were delicious. Definitely going to take advantage of having this place being near by. Here's to hoping they will break the Shoneys/Hoovers/Kohnami curse of this location.

After waiting for 10 minutes to even be acknowledged, we got a table. FINALLY, after waiting another 5 minutes, we talked to the waitstaff. It was obvious that they were not prepared to open the doors for business. Their staff seemed unorganized and unstructured, and often guests would have to walk across the restaurant to get service at their table. We finally ordered, which took almost an hour for our food to arrive. No one came by the table to offer drink refills or to reassure us that the food would be out shortly. The dish was HUGELY disappointing. The flavorless boiled chicken and boiled vegetables on top of broth that almost resembled bargain brand vegetable stock was completely unappetizing. This has probably been the worst restaurant experience ever.

I think I ate at the downtown Thai Passion like 5 years ago. Was it the one near 6 and Nueces? Or the one near Congress and 12th? Whatever, if this is the same business concern, then they are doing it wrong, and they know better. They had a grand opening buffet, in which nearly all of the food was either cold or luke warm. Cool-warm Tom Yum soup? Cool chicken skewers? Ugh. The curry was alright, but it was cold too. Not remotely worth my $15. The servers were pleasant but disinterested. At one point I could see no one, worker or patron, anywhere in the restaurant. There are any number of better Thai places available. Go to those.

Been here twice and don't think I'll come again because it's too slow. The staff are nice, pleasant and polite. Their system is failing them! I see them walking all over the restaurant. The food isn't worth the wait.

Food was amazing! We had the Thai Passion curry, Pud Thai, Jasmine rice balls, Satay, and egg rolls to-go. It was all fantastic. Also we picked it up at one in the morning. No late night restaurant up north beats this one. Go get you some.

The Panang curry is amazingly good. Really nice place inside. Service could be a little faster, but not bad. Recommend definitely. My wife had the yellow curry, she liked it a lot. We ordered one more serving of rice, in addition to the rice they came with, which was perfect for the two curries. Good prices too, $11 for the curries.

Our family tried this restaurant and we all were very pleasantly surprised. Greeting us was beautiful, serene and modern decor. The staff was completely attentive and the menu was extensive. We all enjoyed our meals which were perfectly prepared. We will be going back.

Service-I read all other reviews and was expecting mediocre service; that's what we got. The waitress took our appetizer order and after a 30 minute wait (even though there were only 2 other tables there) we got our appetizer at the same time as our food. The funny thing was that right before she brought out our food she came to tell us that they were out of the appetizer we ordered then she brought it with our food and said "oh I guess they did have it". Food- very good! I'm glad there is a good thai place closer north. The portions were smaller than I'm used to but still good!

Nice restaurant, clean.. I knew what this place was like before, they fixed it up nice , I ordered the Pad Thai , making sure there was no MSG or Soy sauce in the Pad Thai since those ingredients give me terrible headaches. Gene is the owner and manager and he is a good hearted type person, waitresses were very sweet as well and friendly. Gene came to my table to have a chat, so important for the owners to know the people who come to their restaurant. They also had some acoustic live music which was ok- good enough or you can choose to eat in the quieter section. Gene did say when they opened they were a bit short staffed , but I didn't see any issues now and he said they have corrected things. Give it a shot, it was good enough I will go back.

Food was great!!! Quick and hot. Got the Tom-ka soup and it had plenty of chicken and mushrooms. I ordered the pasta basil with chicken and it was great. The husbear ordered Pad-Thai (here they call it Pud-Thai) and it was very tasty but not as spicy as he would have liked. The ambience was great, staff was very friendly, and the bathrooms and restaurant was very clean. This was our first time here, and it won't be our last. Definitely coming back. Well worth every penny!!

Food- Well balanced falvor and overall has a lighter feel than most other Thai places I have been. Tom-Kha was really good and one of the better ones I have had in town. Service- Nice people but was a little slow, I personally recommend just asking for your ticket or getting up to ask. It's 2015 people can you really do nothing but complain? If you are in a hurry or it bothers you then get out of your seat and walk five feet to ask somebody, stop being lazy. Overall- Super happy and excited to have this location so close to home. Will be eating here and calling in orders a good amount.

Had lunch here today. We were seated fairly promptly but sat and watched the table beside us who arrived at the same time not only get greeted by their server before us, but receive their food before we were even acknowledged. Then there was the food.... This is not the Thai Passion I have known and loved for many years. I realize it's a new location but the flavors have changed and if you will, have practically vanished. I was very disappointed and I'm not sure if I'll even be back. Oh, and now I'm officially well over an hour into our "express" lunch!

This is THE best Thai food in Austin. Delighted to find them up North - this location is absolutely stunning. They used to offer a different curry every day but just when I thought it couldn't get any better... Green Curry every day if I wanted it. Tempting. Very tempting. XOXO thank you Thai Passion, you made my day!

The pad thai was mediocre. I wouldn't say it's as bad as Madam Mam's pad thai, but nearly. There are two other Thai places within 5 minutes where you can get better pad thai. Also, I asked for it to be extra spicy and there was zero spice. Shrimp was overcooked. I'm getting sick and was really craving pad thai, but this place just bummed me out. Also also, yeah, what the hell is with the carrots? I saw a picture of the pad thai and it had a crap ton, so I asked for mine without them.

We tried this restaurant after seeing it had opened in Community Impact (FYI there's a coupon). I had the Thai passion curry (yellow curry) with fried tofu and my husband had the Penang curry with chicken. Both were delicious and spicy but not too spicy. My curry came with a cucumber salad that was surprisingly good, too (soaked in a sauce that's faintly sweet). The tamarind candies with the check are a nice change from after dinner mints.

Im not sure what all the rave reviews of the food is about. Typical thai restaurant with typical thai food. Nothing special. Its not bad, its good but nothing special. I had the chicken satay. The chicken was very bland and the peanut sauce devoid of any flavor. The eggrolls were okay but very small. They cut that small eggroll so it makes it look even smaller. Again nothing special. I had the basil stirfry which seemed haphazardly done. Half of the dish was thickened and the other half was watery. How does that happen? It had the typical flavors. The service was nonexistent. Refill of water towards the end of the meal was the extent of the service. If you are a heavy water drinker then you may have issues. They simply dont know any better and dont realize the level of service they are providing. I would give this a 3 star rating but the overall experience is a 2.5 due to the service.

Not bad. My usual Thai place does not deliver. It was cold and rainy out and I was craving Thai. This place has a delivery through Dine on Demand so it was cool. Food was okay, nothing special. Maybe I will have to try something else in the future. Either way, it is nice to know that I have a delivery Thai place! Oh yeah the delivery took about an hours so, not bad.

The fiancé and I just ate a late lunch here. And, I must say, it was VERY good. We will be coming back most definitely. I love the sweet and tangy sauce they serve with their spring rolls, and the Tom Ka with tofu and veggies is the best I've had in north/north-west Austin. Restaurants that open in this particular building seem to not last very long, so hopefully Thai Passion can break that pattern. Service was a bit slow, but we came at an odd hour and she was the only server on the floor.

This was my first visit to their new location and over all it was really good and I will go back. The Pad Thai was awesome, Tom Kha was good and spring rolls were great. The only misfire was that I ordered Pra Ram, which is normally not spicy and was not listed as spicy on their menu. But it set my mouth on fire and when I took a close look, it had tons of red pepper flakes in it. I told the server about it and she got the owner who came and apologized and offered to replace the dish. He agreed that it should not be spicy and that the kitchen had made a mistake. I had already eaten enough to be full (it was love/hate thing, loved the peanut sauce, but then the pepper would kick in :), so I told him not to worry about it. He still took it off our bill, so I was a happy customer.

Great food, friendly service! Almost didn't go after reading some of the other reviews here but we're glad we did. The service was not super fast but it wasn't slow either - it was a moderately busy Friday night, and everyone was kind and attentive. The food was very good; not overly spicy and very flavorful. If you are looking for a solid Thai restaurant and aren't looking for a rushed meal, this is a place worth checking out. It's BYOB so grab some beer or a bottle of wine and enjoy a relaxed meal!

Last night I took the whole family to Thai Passion's new location @Anderson Mill & 183. This is the old Hoover's and then Khonami location. The service and food were both great, as I've come to expect from eating at Thai Passion's downtown location over the years. My wife had the Green Curry (Gang Keow Warn), and I had the Pad Ped Basil. The ingredients were very fresh, and both dishes were prepared flawlessly. The kiddos had Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and Fried Rice, and all were very well done. The Som Tum was fresh and spot on, too. I could tell that some of the staff were new and somewhat inexperienced, but they were attentive and conscientious, and will no doubt continue to improve over time.

Food was wonderful! Best dessert is the Mango cake; so light and refreshing. New location hasn't been open long so some kinks are still being worked out but all of the staff was friendly. Owner, Gene, came out and greeted us. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Really well done interior, shockingly so considering how blah the place looks outside. But that's absolutely not their fault, that spot has been about a dozen restuarants in as many years. I'm a huge aficionado of Thai food. I've spent months and months all over Thailand. My favorite Thai restaurant in the entire country is Lotus of Siam in Las Vegas. That place has a line around THE BLOCK a half hour before it even opens every day. It was featured on Gourmet. What's my point? That's the zenith by which I compare all Thail restuarants. Thai Passion makes very nice food. But not food that I'm going to day-dream about. I think it's that they cater to the regular American pallete. All Thai food has a pinch of sugar as it enhances vegetables in particular. The green been stir fry we had was far too sweet. I had the curry of the day, Panang (which I've had about a hundred times all over the world) and it was underwhelming. They used green beans which were overcooked so you really had a bowl of soft comfort food. That sounds good, I know, but if you know Thai cooking you're expecting flavors, textures etc.. Over-all, it's a super attractive restaurant, the food is good, not great, but Thai options are very limited in Austin. I want them to succeed, but hopefully go to a more traditional Thai style of cooking, i.e. less sweet, more crazy flavorful etc. I need a great Thai place in Austin!!!

I was driving home a few months ago and saw the sign on the 183 service road. I remember eating at Thai Passion many years ago, back when they were located downtown, and having a good experience. I went for lunch a few times and then dinner and Thai Passion is now a place where I am a regular patron. My wife and I get takeout from Thai Passion at least once a month and sometimes more often. The green curry and red curry are both outstanding - very flavorful but without searing your tongue off the way curry (especially green currry) can at some Thai restaurants. Another outstanding dish is the flat rice noodles. This dish is a little hot, but it tastes so good, you can't stop eating it, even as sweat pours down your face! Note that when they first opened up at this location, after relocating from dowtown, they were understaffed and a little disorganized, which is why you will see some negative reviews. However, they have hired more staff and gotten more organized over the last few months. The service still has some room for improvement, but they are trying very hard and the food is great.

Thursday evening dinner for 3. We arrived at 6:15pm, about half the tables had customers (almost all tables were full when we left the restaurant). We were greeted immediately and shown to our table. The service was outstanding. The food was not only delicious but it was plated beautifully. The price was reasonable and we will return. My only complaint, and it is trivial, is that when our waiter cleared the appetizer plates, he took the used forks and spoons off the plates and returned them to the table. I would have preferred clean utensils for the main course.

Four of us dined early (5:30) as TP's new north store attempted to ramp up for the Sat night dinner crunch. Outside looks a little raw, but inside a pleasant ambiance -- light jazz and a fresh look -- in this location that has struggled to find the right tenant. If we understand correctly, live music on Wed nights. Outside banner signage ambiguously announces both "Coming Soon" and "Now Open" (!?) Great flavors, quality ingredients, but still working out the kinks. Rated 4-stars for potential, particularly top quality produce... lean pork, lean white-meat chicken, huge mussels... plus helpful & friendly service, and an enthusiastic on-site owner TCoB. That said, frankly only a 3-star meal because *nothing* arrived hot, not even our shared hot-pot of excellent Tam Kha Soup. Two of us sent our entrees back for a reheat, graciously handled but took longer than it should have. Pre-heated plates would help keep hot dishes hot. The line cooks know their stuff, and this would have been a 5-star meal if TP had a game-on expediter at the pass, ensuring dishes were promptly served. Owner seemed appreciative and receptive to feedback when we engaged at the exit, a promising sign. Definitely merits a retry.

We ate at Thai Passion last night (3-9-15). Keep in mind, the weather was ugly and the restaurant had maybe 6-8 guests at any given time. It was slow. This was our third attempt to like Thai Passion, but I promise you there won't be another. I didn't even write reviews for the first two attempts because we understood they were new to this location. The other two visits did not impress. For this visit, the restaurant was clean, we were seated quickly and we didn't wait long for the food to arrive. Those are the reasons for the two stars. The waitress was cold and any warmth was clearly forced. The manager was no better as she walked around without saying anything or showing any hospitality. They were even cold to each other. You could feel the unhappiness in the air. I had spicy basil fried rice with pork. The pork was tough and had zero flavor. It was just bad. I had asked for the jalapenos to be replaced with Thai chilies, but when my food came it had large pieces of jalapenos. The waitress said she told them about the substitution, but what happened to her responsibility of bringing the right food? She did offer to fix it, but I hate to think about food being thrown away so I didn't accept the offer. I saved the pork for the dog and the jalapenos for cooking. I can't recall what my girlfriend had, but she liked the overall flavor. The problem again was the meat. She had chicken and it had zero flavor. She also commented on the small portion. I decided to share the above thoughts with our waitress in the nicest possible way, but she just stood there with zero emotion and said she would talk with the manager. No apology, not even a fake one. She just seemed to not really care. That irritated me so I suggested she try a competitor of theirs that we love. I won't mention the name here, but I told her they have great food and the people who work there are super friendly. What better way to learn. For the first time in my life I didn't leave a tip, and it wasn't because of the below average food. I never penalize wait staff for poor quality food. I even give tips when wait staff isn't great, just because maybe they were having a bad day or maybe they have kids or who knows. Not this time. Sadly enough, we ended up grabbing whoppers at the Burger King at the other end of that shopping center. Friendly service and the whoopers weren't bad either. I really can't imagine Thai Passion surviving without making major changes.

Sigh... Yes, they are going through a super tough transition. I was actually here when the reviewer (Michelle) was attempting to dine and unfortunately have to agree with some of what she said. About a week ago we attempted to eat here and ended up walking out because it took a while to finally sit down only to find out they did not serve liquor yet. However the menu and review from the previous location looked great, so we returned. First, the service had a lot to be desired, but forgivable due to the circumstances of the restaurant. All of the staff lacked discipline. The head waitress, who could barely speak English, was seen snacking on popcorn and not really focused on the seven total tables the restaurant had. I hope they get this together and they would easily get four starts because... The food was very good, despite this place still being BYOB for another week. I had the dancing seafood place and the duck curry. Both solid dishes that I think will even get better when they get their whole staffing situation taken care of. My hope is they do, because NW Austin, sorely needs a restaurant with the passion of Thai Passion.

From the other reviews..service has improved..we experienced none of the problems mentioned. 2 hostess working..quickly serving water. Waiter and food timely. It is currently BYOB..so bring a bottle and enjoy the food. The food was not spicy..next time we will have to ask for more heat..better safe first time out.

Not really a review per say, just want them to get their yelp profile corrected because yelp says the Anderson mill location closes at 3 am but when I called they said they close at 10. This is a Friday night, so I had gotten my hopes up that maybe they actually were open late

We went to the new location a few days before Christmas and again the day before Valentine's Day. The food from the regular menu is great but the specials are insane. I had a tuna tartare salad that was on par with Uchi- only true Thai style. We also love that we can bring kids there without it being uncomfortable. The staff is welcoming and attentive. The owner always says hello. But the food is so so so good. Love this place.

Here for valentines dinner and the ambiance is so romantic. They have a acoustic guitar player and free photos from a photographer. We ordered the Thai mussels and I could have eaten three bowls. We also got the duck curry and the pre pram (sp?) which was a chicken breast stir fry with a peanut sauce. Amazing. Highly recommend!

0.0, Stars - No Passion for Thai Passion. A 100% DISAPPOINTMENT. Someone finally filled the old 'Hoovers' on N 183 so I thought we would give it a try on a Friday night. Lots of parking and a moderate crowd NOT busy. They were quick to seat us and gave menus and water. It took 12 minutes for a waitress to come over to take our order. We ordered fresh shrimp spring rolls for an appetizer. I order Chu Chee fish and my wife ordered her favorite kind of soup. Well, 22 minutes we still didn't have our appetizer. Water had been empty for awhile but the waitress never stopped by to check on us. After 36 minutes of our lives, all we had to show was a couple of glasses of water. What a waste of time. We left and drove down the parking lot to 'Moonies'. We had two excellent hamburgers. I don't expect Thai Passion to survive very long with that type of service. I can't really comment on the food SINCE THEY NEVER BROUGHT ANY! Maybe they will replace it with a Denny's since the one up the street burned last month. At least Denny's has fast service.

Had the fish cakes and Thai sausage for appetizers; and yellow curry shrimp. All cooked to perfection. Staff was attentive and pleasant. Spoke with the owners who admitted this new location is in the process of training new staff to get a level of service that they are used to..If you go, be patient, they are working to make it perfect!

It was the worst Valentine's Day lunch ever, so bad it ended up being comically funny. The service for us was fine, unlike many other reviewers. The food tasted fine. The cleanliness, ewwwwww! My husbands water glass had a lipstick stain on it. We should have left then, but we thought maybe it was a mishap. We ordered our food. A fire pot of fisherman's soup and an entree of dancing seafood. They brought out two empty soup bowls so we could serve ourselves from the firepot. One bowl had dried food stuck to the side. The entree had a serving spoon on the side. It too had dried on crusty stuff stuck to it. When we told the very nice waitress she gave us a discounted bill and a complimentary dessert, chocolate covered strawberries. Which we couldn't eat because it had actual mold on it!!!! Our poor waitress was horrified when we pointed it out. I don't care how good the food tasted, I can't think about going back without my stomach turning.

We were really excited to see this Thai restaurant show up in the Anderson Mill area. We had a guest visiting Austin and we decided we would all go down there for dinner Friday 02/20/2015. They sat us in the far back end of the restaurant. The service was incredibly slow and the waitress was really stretched to cover the entire back room by herself. We had to wait to get water, we had to wait to place our order, and we had a long wait for the food. I ordered the Musamun Curry but it was a little watery and not as flavorful as other Thai places around town. Our guest is from CA and is a huge fan of SE Asian food. He ordered larb which some consider to be the national dish of Laos and northern Thailand. He was so disappointed with his food that he took his nearly full plate and put it on the empty table next to us. There is a karoke room in the back and our table was right next to the opening. Had I known this, I would have asked for a different table. The music started after we ordered our food, so we had to sit through this loud, drunk, singing while waiting (and it was a long wait) for the food. After they cleared our table, we just sat there with empty water glasses, waiting for the bill. Finally our guest, just got up and went to the register to ask for the bill. It was very embarrassing that I took him to this place that had the feel of an old Shoney's restaurant with some Thai decor. This building was in fact a former Shoney's about 20 years ago. I am willing to give the place another try , maybe on a slower week night and try another dish. Maybe they were short handed that night. I'll update with another review when I go back again.

I was very excited when they opened this North Austin location. But the food is turning out to be too spicy. Specially any dish with 2 or 3 chillies in front of it is going to burn your mouth. For me instead of joy this turned into pain.

Delighted!. Apparently the management has been reading the Yelp reviews. There was a sign in the lobby and at the hostess station indicating that since they were new that their service might be slow. Posting this note was recommended by another Yelp reviewer. Since we anticipated good food and slow service, the sign was not a surprise. But the service was. We were greeted by the hostess immediately. Seated immediately. Our server, Brianna, was at our table as the hostess was leaving. She brought us water and took our drink orders (non-alcoholic). When she returned moments later, she took our order for appetizers and entrees. The Thai rolls and stuffed mushrooms were served in minutes. Very tasty!. We had just finished our appetizers when our Pad Thai, Pud See Ew, and Pra-Ram were delivered t the table. All were excellent. Quality and quantity were excellent. We will ask to sit at Brianna's tables as she was not only knowledgeable but she committed to our delivery time after she took our order. One of the dishes had to be made special as my daughter is allergic to one of the ingredients. The moment the dishes were delivered to the table (as promised in less than fifteen minutes), she came back and re-assured us that the kitchen had made it special. We will be back.

Four of us chose items from the luncheon express menu. Hopefully, this place will survive since previous incarnations in this location never seemed to make it. A man and a woman (owner and wife?) seemed to be the only staff. While the numbers having lunch weren't large, these two simply couldn't handle the orders. Clearing the table or waiting for the check took forever. I also had to request that an iced tea be replaced since it was mostly water. Further, the gratis little lettuce salads with peanut sauce are worthless. However, the four different entrees that we ordered were all well-prepared, and the prices on the luncheon menu were reasonable. For these last two reasons, we will be back.

I've visited twice in the last month. The first time I visited they weren't serving alcohol yet and we were able to take our own bottle of wine. The second time I visited they already had their bar open and my friends and I each ordered a Dos X, but they only had one. My friend then tried to order two other beers on the menu and they were also out of those. The Tom Yum soup is delicious and this is the only reason I would probably visit again. The first time I visited I ordered a combination fried rice dish (my favorite). Thai's lacked lots of flavor. I tried dousing it with spicy sauces but it was still not quite as good as other places. The second time I visited I ordered the Pud Thai dish. Disappointed. I thought it lacked flavor and my friend, who had also ordered the same dish, and I tried to add flavor by adding Sriracha sauce. I may try it again another time to see if it has improved or I may just visit for the Tom Yum shrimp soup. The lunch menu specified $4 for "Chicken or Tofu Only" Tom Yum soup cup, but the dinner menu said Chicken, Tofu, or shrimp for $4 cup. I prefer the shrimp and pointed out the price and they only charged me $4 for the shrimp soup. The male manager is very nice and has good customer service skills, but the female wait staff need a little polishing up.
