A bit late on my review, but Texas Coffee Traders is awesome. On my wife's and my trip to Austin we happened to be lucky enough to meet someone from TCT and he graciously let us come in for a tour and to get our morning coffee fix. We were able to taste beans across roasting, beans across washing methods, and roasts across locations - amazing coffee, and amazing experience in general. We had a handful of absolutely amazing beans and will be ordering more to ship to us now that we are out. On top of that, as a coffee shop, it is completely unpretentious and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place for fantastic cups of coffee, fantastic beans and fantastically kind staff

Awesome and friendly people that are passionate about coffee. Plus you get free coffee drinks every time you go in. Great local roaster and coffee distributor.

It's been a while, almost 7 years since I reviewed this place. It has improved since I first started drinking the coffee here from back in the day. I usually go to the coffee shop in the UTCS building now, almost every day, but I do visit other locations on UT campus sporadically. What I like most about the Texas Coffee Traders is the people who stand behind the counter. They are just quirky and interesting and friendly enough to make my day a little better. The coffee is reliably decent, not the best, but good enough for me. I can not be too picky when I am getting in early in the morning and I am a late morning person! The baked goods are nice, especially when they have the _plain_ croissants. Heeeellooooo! Moar _plain_ croissants please! And the bow-tie pasta bowl is always good for a quick fix just before heading into my office hours or what have you.

Go here! If you want a GREAT well roasted coffee made by a real professional you can't go wrong. Being from Wellington, NZ I've really been missing decent coffee. They nailed it. The barista even made a flat white for my husband (not on the menu but worth asking). There's a nice area outside for sitting in, feels kinda hipster but it's no wannabe - rather real and genuine. The owner (?) offered us some mini muffins which are complimentary and a great accompaniment with your caffeine fix. The service is really welcoming and friendly and overall the place has a really fun vibe. Please go here, you won't regret it.

I have a new found love for East Austin. Only here can you find random coffee warehouses! This was a pleasant surprise. I was drawn to this place having sucked down a french press pot at Alamo Drafthouse with their brew. DELICIOUS: true story. I know this because I was able to drink it black with minimal sugar. The place itself is super cool. Lots of little gadgets for coffee and tea. They have a large wall of variety. I can't wait to dive in. There is also a nice little area to sit and enjoy your coffee out front. They package the coffee right there for you. You can get 1lb,1/2lb or 1/4lb and they give you a cute little red scoop for the beans. I really enjoyed it there, it's quite the drive for me but such a treat! Thank you for supporting my love affair with great coffee.

I love it here. They always make you feel right at home and they are very coffee savvy and willing to educate folks. They also always have great samples out.

Local coffee roaster. They have the largest variety of coffee I've found. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They have all the supplies and will make you a drink while you wait for your coffee to be ground.

Great coffee beans, with the added bonus of a complimentary coffee drink when you buy beans at the retail space. They make a wonderful latte. Guatemalan medium roast is my addiction.

This place has the nicest staff ever! It was my first time here and can't wait to come back. Ryan helped my boyfriend find a cold press and a grinder for our home. He gave us great advice and helped us choose the perfect products. Everyone working seemed to really love their job and made our first experience so much better. Thank you Ryan for all of your help!!

This place is pretty cool if you are after freshly roasted coffee beans for your home coffee machine or other little coffee related gadgets. The coffee they serve on site is good but I found the customer service slightly lacking. They also only have out door seating which in the middle of summer makes drinking a good hot latte a little uncomfortable.

Small coffee places that sells whole beans for small consumption and wholesale. They also have a coffee bar that's good. I had the iced salted caramel latte

This is the fun part about being in Austin. You have access to some of the best owner run businesses. Yesterday, I finally got to visit Texas Coffee Traders...something I had been meaning to do for some time after having tried their blend at Stinson"s and reading about them in Edible Austin. It was a real pleasurable experience. I was lucky to be greeted by RC, the owner and get a 'taste' of his hospitality. He went over the medium roasted beans for my espresso in detail and with all the attention in the world. Then he gave me a taste of one of his recommended roasts by making me an espresso with two variations. And then I am glad we talked about the grinders and he brought to my attention that I probably need to change the burs on my Rancillio Rocky grinder. I had no idea how smooth they become with use when he showed me a new and used one. I have had mine for 5+ years and now will be replacing the burs next week. I guess this is one downside of owning high quality made equipment as it continues to work for years and one forgets to do even routine needed maintenance! The staff was equally friendly to work with and knowledgable. I know I will now be taking the time to go there whenever I need to get my coffee beans. They have hundreds of roasts on a 12x8 wall. Just can't wait to try them.

  • Josh B.

Had a great experience there today. Went in for a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine and received a wonderful, extended explanation of all the best practices to the nuance for that particular machine, on the unit itself, before I'd even paid for it. I came home with it along with the recommended (for cappuccinos) Gatlin roast and, per instructions, made a scrumptious ass latte. Toast to these roasters.

LOVE IT. This is where we will be buying ALL our coffee and tea from now on!! Texas Coffee Traders has a massive selection of beans, dark to light and everything in between, which they roast on premises daily. They completely won me over when i learned they carry multiple Harrars and Sidamos (the old coffees are my favourites). The tea selection is killer, too. The jasmine green they carry is one of the best i've had (the blueberry white tea and plum berry black are also insanely good). The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. And as a bonus, they have a large selection of coffee and tea related paraphernalia. Texas Coffee Traders, we will be friends for a long, long time!

My obession with TCT starts at the Farmers Market downtown. $1 for the best coffee in town, at my favorite place in town... life is good. Today I went to the actual roasting warehouse / distribution center on east 4th and Jessica gave my partner and I a tour and very informative mini session on coffee beans, roasting, geographical regions, retailers, shelf life, barista techniques, and much more. Little did I know this amazing jewel had so much activity here in Austin. The workers all appeared to love their job, and at the end of the tour we had a cup of coffee made by Jessica and you could taste the passion behind the work put into the production of TCT's coffee beans. Jessica definately knew her coffee biznass, and was an amazing barista. TCT also participates in Fair Trade programs ... if there were 6 stars, they would have all 6!!! Can't wait for my next cup of TCT coffee.

Great Coffee place. Friendly staff. Very knowledgeable, and prices are great. Coffee from all over the world.

  • Mo A.

$2 for a cup of real good coffee. It's self serve and staff is awesome. The place looks like a huge factory and they sell coffee paraphernalia as well. Seating outside, parking on the side and I think there might be a few seats inside as well.

While on an errand in East Austin, I had a little time to kill, and immediately thought of coffee, though I was afraid between the abandoned buildings, We Buy Gold stores, and pawn shops, I'd have no hope. I checked Yelp anyway, and imagine my surprise to find this raved-about gem tucked away in an industrial area. Thank you Yelp! While the wifi didn't seem to work, and the seating was an occupied table in the corner or some rusty lawn furniture in the parking lot, this place is: A: Really fun to look (and smell) around. B: At least ties the best coffee I've had. C: Is super cheap ($2 for an awesome coffee drink). So, I'm subtracting a star for the sketchy seating options from the 6 stars I'm giving the coffee for a total of 5 stars.

    (5)
  • Tracey C.

Everyone who works here is incredibly nice and helpful. You can also pick up a latte which are excellent and only $2.

I'm not sure if I should start a separate page for the location in RLM at UT? That's the location I'm reviewing here. And you can include all of their satellites on campus (stand at the corner of 23rd and San Jac, and inside the electrical engineering building). I have been visiting these locations for the past several years and have always been very pleased with the quality of drinks (I mostly drink lattes, but the drip coffee is good, too), and with the quality of the service. All of the baristas/cashiers I interact with are always so friendly and kind. I find that it is very rare to find this so consistently and the only thing I can think of is that the company they work for must treat them fairly well. If not, then they are just exceptional people. I go to SB a lot, too, and for all the corporate training/backing, the quality of their coffee/coffee-making does not compare. I have never had a drink from TCT that I was unhappy with, while I frequently take a sip after going through SB drive through and find that the coffee is undrinkable (burned, overly sweet compared to my request, etc). Again, I can only think that this speaks of quality management, or else just exceptionally talented and dedicated staff. Also, their prices are so much more reasonable than the other nearby coffee shops, and they offer loyalty discounts. It's always such a nice treat to get to splurge on a fancy drink because it's a free reward! I am writing this review as I sadly pine for their return after winter break. I will miss you, TCT! No one can take your place!

  • Julia M.

I would give them all the stars in the Texas sky if I could. I take my coffee SRSLY. I think I love TCT even more because I go there in the early afternoons when I realize I'm out of beans, and as soon as I stagger-in bleary-eyed, they offer me some....coffee. (Duhhh.) It's always divinely strong. They make a nice cappuccino and potent cold-brew. Today, they had cold brew coffee toddy. I think I shed a tear of joy. They've always got a few other varieties to sample, too. If you're a loitering geek-type, they have wifi. I've worked my way through a dozen or so blends and have never been disappointed. There's a wall of big airtight plastic jugs of beans to smell and mull over while helpful folk buzz around suggesting things. Most of their coffees are around $12 a lb and totally worth it, with fair-trade and organic options for a few bucks more. They've got a frequent-buyers reward card that you leave at their shop so there's no chance to forget it and miss out. They've got equipment and teas but I haven't messed around with much of that...yet. Stickers and samples and business cards from good folks accumulate by the door, so get at that swag.

This place deserves far more than 5 stars. It really does Not get Any Better than this when it comes to coffee, folks. To give you some context, I found this place through a yelp review. Rolling up, I realized that the location is a coffee roasting warehouse with a cafe section. When I walked in, I immediately began accumulating reasons to become a loyal customer... 1) The people here are SO ACCOMMODATING. You want a cup of their flavored coffee freshly french-pressed? Done. Your cup is bigger than 16oz? No problem; we'll fill up the whole things for the same price. Customer service here is more than some corporate guidelines. The people here act like a warm family; they are genuinely nice and taught to be generous to others. 2) If you bring your own cup, Everything is $1. Are you kidding me?? 3) If you don't bring your own cup, Everything is $2. 4) All the coffee is FAIR TRADE. Great to the Earth and its people! 5) The coffee here is TOP QUALITY. Man, it really doesn't get any fresher than this. It's imported and roasted before your eyes. And there are 100 varieties. And finally, #6. The owner of this business. His name is R.C. and he is So frickn' cool. He's been living his life well, and he always has a warm smile on his face. On top of these personal qualities, he has an impressive grey beard! On a final note, don't miss out on the fresh teas! They're delicious too!

First of all TCT has some pretty amazing coffee! But more important than anything else, they have one AMAZING team running that place. Everyone is so pleasant and so helpful. Candace, RC and Kaleb (just to name a few) are so great. They go out of their way to make sure their customers are satisfied. Gatlin... best... coffee... ever!

I never thought I would actually find a local coffee roaster that would truly meet my needs. I admit it, I'm a coffee snob. I've spent more than I care to admit on my home barista setup. I Typically have to order everything online. Then, I found this place. The beans are just amazing. They give me more crema and flavor than most of the award winning roasters online. Their selection is amazing and I was able to pick up some barista gear I've been needing for awhile along with their beans. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful as well. They let me taste multiple types of shots with the beans before I purchased them and gave me some tips on my home setup as well! I love this place!

  • Emily K.

This rating is not for their beans, but for their technical service. I have a 1974 Pavoni that needed rewiring and valve work and they did a stellar job, even dealing with weird part matching issues. Friendly tech walked me through every point needing inspection or replacement, got it turned around in a reasonable time and did cosmetically and functionally perfect work.

Texas Coffee Traders boldly stakes its claim in the Austin brew culture. They have a little retail shop, but they also sell at the Farmer's Market. When you walk through an Austin Farmer's Market, you never know what you are going to get. You could get a hot, hot, hot trip by about 11AM... or you may arrive at 9AM sharp and find the coldest breeze known to man. That being said, TCT offers a warm cup of joe or some fantastic iced beverages. Regardless of what choice you make, your selection will have been part of an awesome, local food production. They get the beans (sustainably, I presume), roasted them up, package them, and sell em directly to you, who hopefully has learned the art of grinding, brewing, and tasting your own coffee. Gone are the days of instant, and in their place is a new wave of artisan care taken with black! Aside from going to this Austin institution, you should check the actual product out at the Farmer's Market. Double incentive: grab coffee, AND get to eat local. They have a few types of caffeinated beverage for you to choose from. TCT is where you should start your buzz hunt. They treat the process with care; so you should. too.

I have been going to this place for about a year now and I've never been disappointed. The staff is super helpful and they will make you a free cup of coffee if you are shopping for beans to take home. They always have something tasty brewing in there whether it is coffee or tea. Everyone who works there really seems to know their stuff when it comes to coffee and tea and they are patient teachers. I anticipate being a customer for many years to come. Best place to buy coffee for home brewing I have ever experienced!

Just went in yesterday to buy some coffee I had tracked down from Taco Deli. My wife is hooked on the coffee they sell at Taco Deli so after a little research found out that these guys are the ones that stock the carafes at TD. While its a little out of the way from where we live in N Austin, it is totally worth the trip. I was in the coffee business for 10 years and cant stand crappy over roasted coffee. I have been buying the HEB house brand (shudder) for convenience. Used to buy Starbucks, but the burnt quality of their coffee has grown unbearable and the fact they now sell flavored ground coffee, which was the one thing they swore they would never do, has now left me searching for new grounds. These guys are great. Excellent customer service. Samples, tastings, even gave my daughter some fresh hot chocolate with an ungodly amount of marshmallows on top. I will no longer be buying coffee at HEB. I will make the trip down here and buy a few pounds and freeze them. Most of their beans are Fair Trade and a ton are also Organic. I highly recommend buying your coffee from these guys. They are great, and the coffee is amazing. UPDATE: Just made our first batch of Monteverde. Delish.

Ran into this place while at the Farmer's Market. I noticed that everywhere I went there was always someone holding a cup of either iced tea or coffee and sure enough when we got here there was a line. I got the citrus mint cooler and boy was it refreshing in that hot weather. Definitely citrus-y with a hint of mint. Now that i'm reading the reviews, i wished i tried the coffee! Always a next time! :)

What can I say other than: if you like coffee, you probably already know about this place. Wonderful service, great selection cool shop.

I went in there the other day and kinda played dumb so that I could get the whole lowdown . The staff was really informative without a pretentious coffee snob attitude. They helped me get some nice Honduran coffee at the request of "something chocolaty" . They were right , It's pretty chocolaty. They ground it for me and double bagged it. I put it in my backpack and proceeded to infuse every environment I entered for the rest of the day with a deep coffee aroma that even non-coffee drinkers can appreciate.

I've not been crazy about the coffee in Austin. I usually go to Anderson's. I think I'll be going here now. You should too. Don't ask questions, just get on your scooter and ride!

I just wanted to add that this place is also at the farmer's market at the triangle on Wednesdays and they are super friendly. They sell coffee by the pound as well as by the cup! Check it out- one of my Austin favs. :-)

  • Valerie N.

A little hard to find, but this is definitely a hidden little gem. Located just east of I-35 near downtown, this place has a small outdoor patio, but no inside seating. If it is nice out, you can sit on the patio and enjoy the company of Puddles, the cat. Inside they have tons of coffee and tea paraphernalia and even sell commercial grade coffee equipment. They have tons of coffees from all around the world roasted to your specifications. I would suggest the Sumatra dark, which is my favorite! They provide coffee for several coffeehouses around Austin and you can always know that it is roasted fresh. They also seal up your paper coffee bag in a ziplock just to ensure the retention of freshness until you get to get home and drink it. They have a frequent buyer card that you can conveniently keep in a small file on location (so you don't have to carry it around with you) and they also provide you with a free cup of coffee or espresso drink of your choice when you buy a pound or more to take home.

  • J K.

This is the only place in town I buy coffee. RC, the owner, is super nice! The atmosphere is cool and really authentic feeling. They roast everything in-house and supply the coffee for a lot of businesses in town. Their Cafe Monteverde is my favorite coffee. It's smooth but strong. If the owner is around ask him to make you an espresso drink. It will put all others to shame!

    (5)
  • Skyler T.

How cool is it that there's a big (little) roaster on the eastside? The staff is super helpful and they roast a very good bean (I like the yirgacheffe and victory blend) while also pulling you a shot for free. What else do you need?

    (5)
  • Janlee A.

I've tried almost every other roaster in town vying for the freshest roast. Texas Coffee Traders has won my meager business. Their Victory Blend is my new addiction. There are no tables here but the walk up coffee bar is outstanding. These people really know coffee-they even have a small coffee museum in one corner of the store. Ask them about how to store, make, grind or anything else related to coffee.

    (5)
  • James L.

Awesome place to buy coffee and coffee accessories, especially if you want to buy coffee in bulk. This family owned store will greet you with friendly service and a smile. Excellent.

    (5)
  • Matt L.

Punchcard system (10 lbs, 1 free), one free drink per visit, a wide selection of beans, on-site roasting facility, and friendly staff? Perfect. I wonder if they ever have roast parties or do "coffee flights" where you can taste brews side-by-side. If you're listening out there, throwing some events (like the beer brewery culture's "open house") could do a lot for the industry! I'm sorry Anderson's, but TCT has won me over.

  • Beverly W.

I buy Lonestar Blend & Fredo from Texas Coffee Traders for our Drip Coffee & Espresso's. My Customers love it, I wouldn't buy from anyone else. They are very good to work with, & very helpful. We were voted the BEST COFFEE in Elgin, TX. several times, & it's because we buy the Best Coffee Beans. R.C. & Ron gave me a free class on how to make the best espresso.

  • Ivo P.

This is not a cafe per se, but rather the outlet of this coffee roasting company. The place is part museum, part wholesale store, part cafe. The main reason you'd come here is to get some freshly roasted whole bean coffee for home, by the pound or the half pound. There are around fifty varieties of coffee, all in the range $9-11/lb; various coffee snacks, mainly sweets like truffles, tiramisu bites (!), etc; and flavor syrups. They sell coffee machines (from a cheap french press to a monster of an espresso machine), coffee grinders, and cups. The best part of this place is its incredibly friendly and helpful staff. They are bright and cheerful, ready with recommendations and opinions. If you aren't satisfied with the free coffee you can pour for yourself at the door, they'll make you whatever you want- for free. So try a latte made with the beans you're thinking of buying. I haven't left this store without a smile on my face.

    (5)
  • Kathryn T.

No one knows more about the nuances of flavor and location of coffee beans like these people do. Just talk to a roaster and they would be happy to tell you what their favorites are this season and brainstorm a special blend with you. Who doesn't love a free latte? These guys know good coffee and are happy to share their knowlege with you unlike other places I've been to.

I first had Co-op Santa Elena Monteverde Coffee in Monteverde, Costa Rica in 1993, when I was living there as a biology student from UC Berkeley. It was so delicious, I bought many, many pounds of it to bring back as gifts and for myself. Fast forward 13 years, I move to Austin, and find the Texas Coffee Traders in East Austin - the only (to my knowledge) US importer of this delicious coffee. I begin frequenting the warehouse, and why wouldn't I? Tons of variety of beans to choose from, the nicest staff around, and the occasional perfect cappucino if RC is at the helm. I love their coffee, and not just the Monteverde (although that is an old standby). The gato negro, great rift valley blends are amazing, as is the Bolivian dark roast. Makes getting up in the morning a little easier knowing I get to brew some of this sweet ambrosia.

    (5)
  • Dan G.

Super helpful staff, and if you spend some time researching and trying their coffees (they'll let you sample them if you ask), you can find some delicious blends. The best, imho, is the Fredo blend, but the Victory blend is also fairly good. They also did a good job repairing my espresso machine, though it was a bit pricey. Overall, great place.

  • Dav R.

What an awesome place! I walked in, explained what I was looking for flavor profile wise, how I planned on brewing it (cold brew), and walked out 20 minutes later with some great coffee. They have such a great variety of beans available, and the staff is super friendly.

    (5)
  • Pterodactyl B.

Excellent selection. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Free samples. You'd be HARD PRESSED to find a better coffee supplier. They roast and toast it right here. Don't go anywhere else, you'll just wind up bitter.

I loved visiting Coffee Traders when I lived in Montana, I was so happy to find them in Austin, where I can find not only my favorite Montana coffees like huckleberry coffee, but also good new coffees from all over the world.

  • Rohit H.

One of the best coffee & tea place in Austin to find hard to find coffees & teas. I have been looking for a good Chicory coffee for a long time & this place not only had it, but had the best Chicory I have ever tasted. The staff there is so helpful & so much into coffees. They gave me a very interesting & informative info about Chicory coffees. Awesome place, awesome coffee, deserves BIG 5 starts !

Everyone I know that has even casually mentioned coffee in conversation I send to Texas Coffee Traders. This place is the best. Let me just walk you through what an average visit: You walk in and are greeted by a friendly staff member. They ask you what you're looking for. Oh what's that? You're not sure what you want? No problem. They offer samples. They explain the different beans and different types of brewing so you can truly find what's best for you. They're patient. And oh man... their selection. Whatever kind of bean you're looking for, they have it. They also have all sorts of coffee paraphernalia available for purchase. French presses, coffee socks, etc. My favorite part about TCT, and the reason I keep coming back even though I've moved across town, the staff. They're so knowledgeable and not pretentious. It is unreasonably hard to find an unpretentious coffee staff that's willing to teach -- these guys have it down. There's not much room for sitting/working. It's more of a purchase and go place. But they throw in a free coffee whenever you purchase beans. They have specialty drinks, too, although I've never had them. And some pastries. Seriously though... all coffee drinkers need some TCT in their life. Give it a visit, you won't be disappointed.

I had no idea this was here! What a great coffee house. So many options. Roasted in house. Small selection of really good pastries too from Upper Crust bakery. Good option for buying by the pound or grabbing a cup for the porch. Not much indoor seating. SUPER great staff! One really cool thing: they let you try all the by-the-cup options. Really cool atmosphere. Full espresso bar, drip/French pressed, and cold-brewed.

  • Greg W.

Good coffee and cool vibe here but the staff have such an attitude. I walked in and asked for an iced coffee and a guy is like "yea we might have some of that left" then I go over to pay and the woman behind the register doesn't even look up from her sheet and says "can I help you". I guess she was doing me a major favor ringing me up. We then had to ask 3 people where straws were that were basically hidden behind the counter. They all responded "yea they should be somewhere over there" It's going to be tough for me to give my business to this place again after that experience.

  • Shanna S.

So awesome! The service here is top notch. They were really nice to me and my friend and the six kids we had with us. The coffee was also good and you can sample the blends. Love!!

  • Calily B.

The staff here is exceptional! Helpful, informative and quick! With a wall full of bean options, it's nice to be able to chat with the employees to get an idea of what you would like. While you're perusing the beans, you can also sample some of their brewed coffees or purchase a large cup, if you so choose. Most beans are around $10-$15/pound. If you can't make it to the shop, you can always order online.

  • Kyle Q.

I walked in here for the first time today and felt like I was in heaven. The smell of dozens of different types of coffee hit you before you even reach the door. I was greeted by a woman who introduced me to all of the different types of coffee that were already brewed and free to sample. I liked one of them so much I ended up buying a pound (Victory Blend). The prices are reasonable for a fresh and organic product, and all of the staff was super friendly to us and our little dog. Thank you guys, I can't wait to come back for more.

Huge selection of beans, toddy growlers are a killer deal, location in a sweet warehouse, and always a selection of brews to sample. What's not to love?

These East Austin local guys know what they are doing, they have been roasting up beans since 1981. I have been enjoying Texas Coffee Trader beans for awhile now. It seems that at every turn, when I have found myself enjoying a coffee, a common response is that the beans are from Texas Coffee Traders. Thus, I have had on my to do list to visit the mother ship for awhile now. The Traders shop open to the public is located at the site of their warehouse where all the action takes place. They have a full functioning coffee bar, wall of coffee beans, and a nice little shop of coffee related items. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a wall of diverse loose leaf tea combinations that are also made on site. Awesome coffee + tea, what more could you want. I love their cold brew, so I had some to enjoy outside in their little covered seating area, while I worked on their free WiFi connection. Of course it's so good that you want to take some home with you to enjoy later which is easy to do by purchasing one of their coffee growlers, which they filled up with fresh cold brew from the back. This is a low key, unpretentious warehouse coffee experience - go to the source, get some great quality coffee/tea, and see where all the magic happens. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly.

Ok. It's Christmas season. Sister has a boyfriend who is a big coffee fan. Let's get some locally roasted coffee, throw it in a cute basket, add some chocolate covered espresso beans, and a cool mug and he'll love it! (Or she can regift it to me :P) We walk in and she's immediately overwhelmed by the wall of choices. So, their really helpful staff come to the rescue. I wish I'd gotten her name, but this wonderful woman comes over and hears our idea and immediately starts to explain the origin of coffee. She describes the flavor profiles, the locations, etc., etc. She passes around the containers of roasted beans and lets us smell them. My sister chooses 4 beans and they grind them for her boyfriends French press. As we were going through the selection process, she didn't fail to remind us that they have a self serve sampling table available with several of the beans we were interested in. We didn't take advantage of this, but I will next time we're in. When she went to pay, she was handed a decorative bag with tissue paper inside with the vacuum sealed coffee samples. If we weren't building a basket, this would have saved us the trouble of wrapping. There are many more things I can say about TCT from the merchant side, but from the retail side, this sums up every experience I've had there. The staff is incredibly helpful and more than happy to help. Samples are plentiful and you can get decently hands on with the products so that you can feel good about your purchase.

These people are amazing people with a guide heart for what they do. Went above and beyond as far as explaining their coffees, the processes, grinds, etc. I love to see people who are in a field they have heart for. Amazing. People that hooked us up with the coffee that was just perfectly suited to our tastes. I didn't even know there was such a thing!

I am not a big coffee drinker, in fact may have only one cup a month. This place caught my eye when I was downtown on a chilly morning. It tasted so fresh and the staff was more than accommodating. I lack the knowledge of a coffee connoisseur and they took the time to explain the difference between a late, cappuccino, and their other concoctions. I will be back!

I always look forward to restocking on coffee beans here. They have a wide variety of delicious coffees from all over, including organic and fair trade. The staff is super helpful and enthusiastic about their coffees and are happy to tell you about their roasting, brewing processes etc and give you tips if you want. They also sell various grinding, brewing and whatever other equipment you'd use for coffee and tea purposes. Oh and they always have several coffees available for liberal sampling!

I've been going to TCT for quite a while now--you can't even get a blonde roast at Anderson's, after all--and every experience is phenomenal. My boyfriend and I have even enjoyed complimentary tastings (samplings with answers to all of the possible questions I've ever had about coffee and the diversity of flavor profiles). TCT gives you unparalleled customer service from people truly passionate about coffee and who want to share their knowledge with you, with the added benefit of having the best coffee in the city, all curated based on the quality of the individual crop, so you know it's good. I only wish they had longer hours!

I wish i could give more than 5 stars to this place!!! GREAT customer service, and great quality coffee, I got the salvadorian honey coffee and it has been a great start for my mornings. Tina was extremely helpful, showing us the area and educating us a little bit in the art of coffee. While browsing the store you can sample dripped and french press coffees, also you can buy drinks from their coffee area, HUGE selection of syrups and outdoor seating Everything you need coffee related is here :)

If you're serious about coffee - and not the building its sold in - this place is for you. I like a good cup of coffee. Check that: I love a good cup of coffee! So, I make it at home grinding the beans in my vertical mill before each French Press batch using filtered water. Yeah, I'm a little obsessive about the coffee experience. Over the years I've found that Texas Coffee Traders not only has the best selection at a reasonable cost but the most knowledgeable and laid-back staff as well. This is the best place to go in Austin - every where else is fighting it out for the number 2 slot. It is a working mill and warehouse so you are not going to be overwhelmed with the amenities although the outside patio is large and relaxed, but if you're into the bean, and not too concerned about aesthetics, this wont deter you one bit. They will grind your beans if you ask and yes, organic and fair trade dominate the sizable selection. Go forth and drink.

I was looking for a place to buy fresh, locally roasted coffee and TCT hits the spot. It has an enormous selection of organic, fair trade blends. On Saturday morning they had 7 different coffees brewed three different ways (paper filter, sock, and french press), sampling was encouraged, and they offered to brew up anything else I was interested in trying. The coffee bar offered a selection of espresso beverages as well as a variety of teas. The inside of the building is essentially a warehouse store front with coffees and teas lining the walls and all sorts of brewing equipment on the shelves. Seating in the outdoor patio was sufficient to enjoy your drink, but not really a place to bring your laptop and get work done (I didn't see any outlets and I'm not sure they offer wifi) The friendly staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful without a bit of pretentiousness. Overall this place is more than I'd hoped for: an unassuming local shop with knowledgeable, helpful staff and a fantastic variety of freshly roasted coffee and tea

This place really deserves the five stars. The staff are so friendly and patient with explaining the different beans, roasting and processes the coffee goes through. It's like a free educational class. The cappuccino I got was awesome, the hot chocolate was even better!!! They need to advertise that. Wales away with two, one pound bags of coffee. It was so fresh, I couldn't resist!

So helpful, knowledgable and family friendly. They treated my kids with such respect and they were patient with me while I tried to figure out what I wanted. Their prices are also so fair given that most of their products are organic and/or fair trade certified. I can't imagine going anywhere else for my coffee now.

This place is absolutely fabulous!!! Tina went above & beyond to ensure we were taken care of & had an immense knowledge of coffee & the company. My husband & I came here after I had the most delicious Iced espresso I've ever had at Southern Congress Restaurant(they use Texas Coffee Traders Coffee). We're visiting from CA & I had to buy 3 pounds of coffee to take home with us! Can't wait to come back next time we're in Austin!!!

What a great place on so many levels. The people working here are incredibly nice and could not be more helpful. The atmosphere is one of relaxed professionalism where it seems to me everyone knows what they are doing. The selection of coffees is great. I have shopped here for coffee and also just stopped in for an espresso and each time the quality of beans and coffee alike is superior. Then my espresso machine needed repair - repairs which a number of people told me were not possible as the machine is "the real thing from Italy". However here there is a guy named Daniel who could not be more helpful and/or knowledgeable. He took a lot of time to research the parts; find them; and then install them. It took a lot of effort but this guy did not give up and was actually fun to work with. I can not say enough positive about this place.

Excellent coffee selection and a staff that is friendly and knowledgeable. They sell green as well as roasted beans in light or dark. I like that you can buy a small amount of beans. I like the variety and the beans degrade if not used in a timely manner. In addition to coffee beans, they have a variety of specially blended teas. There is a small selection of ready-made teas and coffees to drink on the go. This is not the kind of place to hang out; but, if you are looking for high quality beans from all over the world to brew at home, you can find it here. They hold free coffee 101 classes every third week of the month for coffee fanatics.

This morning.. I took my niece in. My niece is visiting from a small Louisiana town. She only knows about Starbucks. Lindsay was so nice at tx coffee traders. She explained how to make expresso. Lindsay made my niece a coffee drink she was familiar with. Overall.. My niece and I had a lovely experience. She is well on her way to kicking Starbucks to the curb.

Great place, nice people. Big selection of coffees from everywhere, and they'll brew you a cup of any of them at the same price. They also have 4 or 5 brewed coffees if you're in a hurry, all of them strong (praise them; they know how to make a decent cup of coffee). They're really special!

LOVE LOVE LOVE. Coffee is outstanding. Staff is incredibly friendly, and more importantly, knowledgeable. If you are shopping for brew: Beans come with a baggie, a scoop, marketing material, etc. if you need all that. (I was sending a gift, otherwise, just grab your beans ;-) If you just want a cuppa hoe: they have a full coffee bar. They also offer you a complimentary cup upon bean purchase. In fact, I think the samples they have our are complimentary for all. You can enjoy in store, in their patio area, or to go. If you are a retailer: I have worked with RC in a professional capacity and he is top notch. They have the beans and equipment to do anything you desire and the quality of products (and of course coffee) is superior.

Amazing variety of quality coffee with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I previously worked remotely throughout many countries, and this is probably my favorite coffee shop/roaster that I've visited.
