I just had one of the worst customer experiences I think I've ever had in Austin at Salvation Pizza. A group of 10 of us recently visited for dinner. The waitress was flustered the entire time. Drinks came out sporadically the first 20 minutes we were there. She asked if we wanted separate checks - we said yes. If you can't handle separate checks, then don't ask. Over half of us ordered salads. At first two came out, then 10 minutes later two more appeared. Again, minutes later a fifth salad appeared. We were finally down to the last salad and when we asked the waitress about it she said she thought his salad was for his main meal. (Why would you think that after delivering five other salads??) We told her no and she said she'd get it out... he finally received his salad well after his pizza arrived. Then we received 4 of the 5 pizzas that were ordered. She looked at the table when we told her we were missing one, then she looked at her notes... then she talked to the cook and came back and told us they said they made it. (I don't care what they said, I didn't have my pizza.) She apologized and said she'd talk to them again. She came back and told us that the manager would give us our pizza for free and it would be ready in 7 minutes. Fine, I figured that it was resolved appropriately. Twenty minutes later she said it would be 4 minutes. No longer fine. It was just really ridiculous at this point. They weren't busy, they knew they messed up and they didn't correct the problem. My whole check should've been free at this point. By the time we got our pizza everyone else was done and getting ready to go. And finally, several of our checks were incorrect. One person had a groupon on his phone, she hit redeem and then didn't take the $10 off their check. If the tip hadn't been automatically added, she would not have received one (and it takes a LOT for me not to tip anything). We won't be returning. I have no idea how this place stays in business with such horrendous customer service.

I'm really disappointed by tonight's experience with Salvation Pizza.... I've eaten there a handful of times and was always pleased! However, I was far from that tonight. Salvation started delivering their pizzas recently and I was super psyched. Two weeks ago my boyfriend ordered delivery to our house. They quoted us 25 minutes and the pizza was delivered in a timely manner with no problems. Tonight, though, I called and placed an order at 7pm. She said about 30-35 minutes and didn't say anything about my address. By 8 pm, with no pizza, I called them to inquire. The woman who answered the phone seemed confused and put me on hold to "find out what was going on". While I waited on hold I received another call from the delivery driver. He said to me that he was sure I wasn't within their delivery range and his "GPS couldn't find" my apartment... I gave him directions and he said he would call me if he got lost again. Well, another 20 minutes passes and he still hasn't come by or called! We go ahead and call him back and he shows up INSISTING that we are not within the delivery range... The pizza we got was warm at best and clearly shaken up with the parmesan spilled in the box and the salad soggy. It is incredibly frustrating to wait for and hour and a half for a pizza and be told that YOU'RE in the wrong by the store. If we are outside your zone then tell us on the phone! Plus, two weeks ago we got a timely delivery from this place with no fuss! For this price and with all this hassle, you can count me out next time. I'll stick with East Side Pies. Quick local delivery with no fuss. I would have been much more lenient if I had gotten an apology or acknowledgement of the problems. But nope. I'm so put off I may not dine in again either.

I've been coming to Salvation for pizza for years. While the pizza is still delicious, the service has gone down the drain. If you call for takeout or delivery, you're lucky to get anything but a busy signal. Tonight I got through, but they were out of all appetizers 2 hours before closing. Furthermore, the woman taking my order hung up before telling me when the pizza would be ready or how much it would cost. Finally, after calling back to ask for an estimated time for pick-up, I was told 20 minutes. As of now, it's been 35 and I still haven't received the order. I wish I could say tonight's experience is unusual, but unfortunately it's been par for the course lately. They need to invest in a call waiting system and hire more staff...or maybe just train the ones they've got. In the meantime, I'm sticking with Parlour or East Side Pies.

Best pizza I've had in a long time. Their bread is super tasty. Quiet calm night so there wasn't any problem with getting our food out on time. Pleasant atmosphere. Honestly really good bread.

Salvation is one of my local favorites. It is reliably consistent with it's yummy ingredients and thin yet crispy crust (which are my favorite attributes to a piece of pizza). They've got some good combinations on their numbered menu, and the option to build your own as well. Appetizers: The garlic bread is a giant loaf of bread, and something you should order if you have a lot of people - but if you have two, skip it. The dough bites look good, though I've never had them. The house salad? YUM! What's keeping me from a five star review? Maybe about every other time I go there, someone forgets about my table. That's a reliable negative - sometimes, the pizza will take an hour or I won't get a refill on water for like, 20 minutes. I wish I was exaggerating - but, the food is awesome enough to keep me coming back.

Pizza has a tasty sauce and fresh vegetables. Service was slow but the place is quaint.

I was really disappointed by my first experience with salvation pizza tonight. I went with some friends at around 8pm and the place was pretty empty. We sat down and ordered within 5 minutes because we were so hungry. After ALMOST 40 minutes our food finally arrived... Honestly we were ready to leave right when our food came out. The funny thing was the table that came after us got their food before us!! The part I couldn't forgive was when our waitress (that barely served us) took the extra change when we paid our bill in cash!! The pizza was great but the horrible service makes it hard to give this place a 3 star

Really loved the thin pizza here! Came during lunch and got the lunch special which came with a salad and drink. The pizza slices were pretty big. They remodeled the porch a little and the atmosphere feels a lot nicer now. One downside was that there was only one waitress and it was hard to get her attention.

I daresay they have one of the best lunch specials around in this area. $5.99 for a drink, a salad & two ginormous slices of pizza?! Can it be beat? My co-worker and I arrived promptly at 11:30am, unaware that this is when they open. Parking could possibly be a pain (but luckily UT is not busting at the seams at the moment) but I lucked out and parked on the street in front. We walk into a cute, little, old, remodeled house. It still has some of its original dated decor, such as the old fireplace, wherein lies a painting instead of wood or a burning fire. For the lunch special you choose from a variety of pizzas that they make often. I chose a pepperoni and a cheese slice. My co-worker chose the olive & bell pepper slices. The salad contained a spring mix which I like, and I would highly recommend the sun-dried tomato dressing. It was new for me, and it really made the salad taste like something out of this world. Their pizza is neopolitan style which I am a big fan of. I definitely eat too much pizza lately, and I will return again for this pizza since I finally made it here. We also ordered the dessert of the week which contained banana bread, Amy's Mexican vanilla ice cream (SO GOOD) and hazelnut fudge. For $5 it was delicious and looked like culinary art. They also serve local brews on tap, and their limited but affordable happy hour is from 4-6 where $2 Live Oak pints are a steal! Close to work, close to home? Happy meter is rising!

I've consistently had 5-star experiences with Salvation Pizza. First of all, I love the place itself. The patio is beautiful at night for a group dinner or date. The garlic cheese bread is amazing (they use asiago), but be warned that they give you an entire loaf! The marinara sauce is obviously very fresh and it's delicious! And I really love their pizza, and rank it above Home Slice in quality. Thin crust, FTW. Perfect sauce-to-cheese ratio in my opinion. Also, you only have to wait about 15 minutes for take out orders and they write your name in cool-looking letters on the box!

MMMMMM lunch speciaaaaal! $10 for a salad and two mouth watering slices of thin crust pizzas that they have on special for the day. I think the regular prices for the pizzas are a bit steep but the lunch special is a great value! ps: if you are an anchovy fan then come here cause I love their anchovy pizza :D fishy fishy fish fish

I had salvation last night with friends. Apart from not having a standard combo pie we had to order a customized pie which shot the price through the roof. The pizza attempts to be a neopolitan style but lacks any mouthfeel (chewy or crunchy) and very little flavor. They skimped on the cheese and the toppings and the sauce is a bit too tangy; dare I say not much time was spent developing the sauce flavor.. I would choose The Onion over this place in a heartbeat.

I really want to give Salvation Pizza a higher review because the first time I visited a couple of years ago, it was so good. I'll be sure to go back again and give it another chance, but here's my review for my recent visit. My bf and I split a large #5 (white pie with chicken, onion, garlic, etc) and it was more than enough for our lunch. I liked the thin crust a lot, which is weird since I normally loathe thin crust pizza. For me, thin crust pizza = less carbs = less good. Also, thin crust = soggy pizza = awkwardly positioning myself so that the pizza can droop into my mouth = no fun. Salvation Pizza convinced me that less carbs could still be delicious...mind-blowing, huh? Salvation does thin crust good and crispy and doesn't skimp on the toppings. The odd thing is--even though I don't like soggy pizza and was so happy that the crust was crispy, I left my lunch feeling like the pizza was too dry (dry chicken meat, white pie/less sauce) and somewhat unsatisfying. I remember my first time at SP being fantastic, so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I will probably try the margherita next time and see if some tomatoes will help balance out the soggy-dry ratio that the Goldilocks in me is so picky about.

Tasty. Quality pizza. No mainstream beers though. They were pretty busy when my bf and I went a couple of nights ago. The waiter took our order and after almost 20 minutes he told us that or pizza was about to come out - however instead of pepperoni he had typed in peppers. So he gave us the "wrong pizza" for free to munch on until ours came out. Thought that was nice.

One of the best advertisements for a restaurant is the smell escaping past their doors, or in this case patio. I walked by this place the day before I came. The aroma was literally unforgettable. So the next day this was our lunch spot. The sun dried tomato salad dressing is brilliant! The thin crusted pizza was very tasty. The service was totally on top on things. Well done!

I was driving around UT campus when I end up turning into this street. All I was trying to do was go back down Guadalupe street to eat at a 5 guys we had seen. Well we saw this little house with the patio and saw it was a pizza place so we decided to give it a shot. Ive gotta say service was great, granted it was like 3 pm on a sunday so it was rather empty but the waiter suggested we order the #5. So we did and let me tell you it was amazing. The crust was so crunchy and cooked just right, the toppings were also amazing and scattered evenly. Definitely try this place if you are in the area. Great place great food great service. Will def go back next time im in Austin.

I called to ask 2 quick questions about their pizza and they seemed irritated and rushed.

If you are craving thin crust pizza, this is the place to be. The interior needs some cleaning and service is sometimes sketchy, but the pizza makes up for any bad qualities. Second only to Home Slice, this place is closer to my home and the wait time is never as long, so I eat here more frequently.

If you took a mile-long string, put one end at Salvation pizza and dragged the other end around, you wouldn't find pizza that is better than you would here. You'll also look like a psychopath wandering around with one end of an impossibly long string. If that string were 2 miles long, though, you would find all sorts of places that make you realize that Salvation serves up okay, flavorless-crust pizza in a decent atmosphere. Having beer and plenty of seating is nice, as is the big covered patio, but Pinthouse has the same schtick with better beer and slightly better pizza. House Pizzeria is a similar thing, only a bit fancier, tastier, and with wine to boot. And so on, ad nauseam. Point being, Salvation might be just that if you're a college student looking for a slice of pizza that isn't as crappy as something like Pizza Hut, during inclement weather, that you can get for less than the price of a Lone Star on the eastside. But if that broad demographic doesn't include you, well, skip the pizza or bounce to about any other area of town for something more memorable.

Our go-to local pizza joint. Their thin crust is awesome, and the marinara they serve with their garlic bread is beautiful - really fresh and bright! We like it better than House Pizza and East Side (I know, sacrilegious!). House is cool for funkier toppings, but their crust gets damp and wilty. East Side crust just isn't as good. Outside patio is good for the kiddos - nothing special, but they can goof around and play with sticks and rocks, just like kids should.

I want to love Salvation pizza but it's not great. The last few times we have gone the pizza is just ok. Last time I got the Hawaiian and it does not compare to Pinthouse Pizza, which has an incredible beer selection.

This was a tasty thin pizza. The pizza was ordered well done and came out perfectly crisp. For Austin, quite good, as I usually eat just about all of my pizza in NYC pizzerias. The prices were reasonable and the service was so good that my cup of Coke was filled every time it came close to empty. Garlic bread was ordered as an appetizer and had a dip sauce which was good but included tomatoes that were a bit too chunky. This pizza is worth a try, even for the most discriminating pizza fan.

Oh no, I wanted a three inch thick disc of undercooked dough.... With a 20 ounce can of industrial grade pizza sauce slopped on top...! Like at that famed pizza establishment, Chuck E. Cheese.... I dunno, some people have very strange ideas about pizza, but to me Salvation is pretty much what I want. Thin base, scorched and buckled in places, a good but not lunatic selection of toppings, good local beer on draft and not too much else to distract from the pizza experience. The staff are pleasant, even when it's crowded and I'm getting takeaway and getting under everyone's feet. Maybe they're not obsequious enough for some but that kind of thing would seem out of place here. (Or maybe I'm just a more likable old guy than some....) Try the white pie with clams and lemon. That's a grownup notion of pizza. Get there in time for happy hour, and you're laughing.

Ill be honest and say I really came by to eat at food heads next door, but it was the 4th of July and nothing much was open so we settled for this place instead, but glad we did. It was one of the best pizzas I've had, thin crust especially. Really light, and crispy with lots of flavors. Service was friendly and didn't have to wait long either.

So delicious. Still so very delicious. Lunch specials are magical...$5.99 for a drink, a salad, and 2 slices of pizza. What's there not to love??? Service was friendly and efficient, too.

Oh my god! The lunch deal is amazing. Soda, 2 slices and a really good little salad for about $6 is outstanding. Plus, the pizza was spicy and delicious. Great thin crust Really surprising for a place so close to campus where cheap and easy often rules the pizza scene. Don't get me started on how good the salad is. It's not huge, a lunch portion, but where most restaurant salads are sad affair of iceberg lettuce or at least not much actual green lettuce, this is a perfect bowl of green lettuce, some tomato, and delicious dressings. The house Salvation is located in is adorable and it's a really great little space, keyword being little. Our waiter was awesome, laid-back, and friendly. Parking sucks as it does for any establishment in this area. Also, we visited during the summer when the college students are mostly gone. Not sure how much that changes the ease we had getting in and out quickly during lunch.

Service isn't always great, depending on who's working, but the pizza definitely makes up for it. Delicious, thin crust and incredibly fresh ingredients - they hit the mark every time. I always keep my pies pretty sparse and, seeing that this is thin-crust pizza, I would suggest not going super heavy on the toppings. Besides, the best way to tell when something is good is by tasting the classics.

I had this piece of pizza in New Jersey once. Atlantic City, 3 am, riding in one of those push carts that look like a cross between a moving fish tank and a rickshaw. We had indulged in beverages and were deciding whether it was PC to let somebody push us around in a cart. Then we decided it WAS okay because we were going to buy him a piece of pizza. And by we, I mean my friends husband Gary, the enabler. Gary was also the culprit in a Kelly-on-philly cheesesteak crime a couple of years ago, but i digress. Anyway, this AC pizza was the best I'd ever had - thin, garlicky, amazing. And I swear it was so good it sobered me up. I've been trying to recreate that pizza ever since. So when I stopped by Salvation Pizza to do a little work and have a piece, I was hoping for something similar. And while I didnt find the three am drunken rickshaw magic, I did find a damn good pizza. Now I agree with Lisa on the thin crust -- garlic scented air (hilarious!) - but since that's what I was expecting, i folded that pizza like it was laundry. The flavors were great (got a #7) with fresh garlic and feta and artichokes and olives. The service was fab, super nice server and the pie was a pretty decent size. Since the slices are so thin, you can savor the ingredients and not feel bad about reaching for that fif... er, third piece. The patio is totally sweet and since it's central, convenient to just about everyone. So stop in for lunch, grab a pie and impress your friends with your new discovery and a wicked fold.

I'm a hardcore Home Slice loyalist so I was skeptical about Salvation at first but ended up being very impressed. The garlic bread was incredible: a fresh loaf of bread with chunks of garlic on top and a slice of garlic butter in between EVERY SINGLE SLICE; it was so delicious that I had to brush my teeth twice that night. Pizza was good, the crust was absoultely perfect and I was happy that they let us do a half-and-half of a white and a red pizza. The hawaiian was great and the white clam was good but not as good as Home Slice's... that's a tough act to beat though. Loved the outdoor picnic tables and pitchers of beer, I'll definitely be back.

I've tried almost all the pizzas Austin has to offer, and Salvation is still my favorite. Once you get past the "New York pizza is /the only/ style" bigotry, you can free your mind and dive into the amazing flavors that come out of Salvation's pizza ovens. I've had almost everything on the menu but a few highlights -------------------------------------------- The Margherita -- CLASSIC. Sage Chicken -- A wonderful trip into complex flavors with white-pie qualities and earthy sage. Hawaiian -- Sweet, salty, savory My favorite: Pepperoni & Jalapeno with crushed red peppers BAKED UNDER THE CHEESE. (It's a pro move. You should try it). It's a fiery masterpiece that will have your mouth tingling wanting to eat more because it hurts so good. -------------------------------------------------- If you're adventurous try the "white clam" pizza. My suggestion is to order it when you've got a big group so you don't have to commit to more than two slices ;). It's tasty though. The lemon really brings a fresh zip to the pie and the clams give a nice chew. With all their pizzas you can ask them to add fresh garlic for free. The pizzas are sauced lightly and are typically a tad bit crispy (as can be expected from Napoletana style pizza). Fantastic pizza and local beers (Live Oak) on tap make Salvation a spot that I frequent.

We ended up here for my spouse's birthday as he is a pizza fanatic. It was pretty decent pizza. We all liked the thin crust, sauce, and spices. The atmosphere is what you'd expect at a pizza joint close to a college campus. It did have a space for kids to run around and play, which was nice. My biggest complaint is that they didn't dock of on price when I got my pizza without cheese (like most pizza places did), and they forgot the sun dried tomatoes. It is a little pricey for the size of pizza you get and the service is slow (even when there were very few customers), but otherwise this is a solid pizza joint.

I love you Salvation Pizza. Your Shrimp pizza is my favorite. Where else can I find shrimp on a white pie with capers and lemon? Delicious. Their crust is thin but crispy with tiny little air bubbles. You really can't go wrong with any pie here. Must get the garlic bread as an appetizer.

  • Amy S.

The crust is always the biggest player of a pizza for me and this one was nothing special. We ordered the white clam and a customized beef, mushroom, and olives. The white clam wasn't as flavorful as we expected. We definitely needed some ranch to give it some flavor, but they don't have ranch here! I took the car to the Little Caesar's and brought back some ranch for that baby. The hamburger beef pizza was good with lots of meat if that's your thing, but still nothing extraordinary. The chocolate cake was $5.50 and very small but chocolatey. Service was good, servers were nice, and the patio was good for dogs.

Salvation Pizza's lunch special is pretty awesome. It comes with a salad with this really delicious tomato based dressing, two slices of pizza, and a drink for around $8! It was SO GOOD. The pizza slices are pretty big... comparable to home slice, but there's just so many varieties! The pizza is very thinly made and just tastes like awesome with every bite. The only reason why they got 4/5 stars is because when I was sitting on the outside patio there were a lot of flies and it was gross.

Ordered the #3 small eggplant, artichoke heart and sundried tomato pizza. I would describe it as large and took most home for leftovers. It was very tasty. Liked the tomato sauce. The sandwiches looked great too. Used a Groupon. They also have weekday lunch specials on certain days for those without a Groupon.

I don't want to start the great Austin pizza wars. (Salvation? Homeslice? House Pizza? East Side Pie? Pizza Garden?!?!) But if someone wants to turn this into a reality show, I'll be glad to jump on board and be a funny, engaging, crazy, whatever the producer wants taster/host. I expect to be paid in pizza and garlic knots. But if we were to wage this war, I would make an argument that Salvation could hold its own, if not win. As I see it, Salvation has it all. Thin crust, creamy cheese, fresh toppings, creative specialty pies. And to top it off, they have a good beer selection at a good price to wash that pie down. Oh, and if we take a moment to step away from pizza, Salvation has an amazing patio for all of those lovely March( errr I mean November...) nights. In the end, maybe this can be less of a pizza war, and more of a diplomatic tour? Just call me the Secretary of Pizza.

Seeing an average 4 star rating on yelp, I had better expectations. The pizza is ok, not the best, but we liked the thin and crispy crust. We had No 5 and asked prosciutto to be substituted by sundried tomatoes. We got blobs of tomato paste instead of sundried tomatoes. Other toppings were somewhat sparingly used, but the pizza tasted ok. Service was sloooooowwww and I could see one single server running around all by herself and by 7:30 pm all inside tables seemed to be full. The worst was the blaring music. Whatever station it was, they were playing really loud and fairly bad rock/hard rock type of thing. Maybe I am getting old, but I could hardly have a conversation without yelling. So, on a good day, it is better to sit outside. When the check came and we paid, our change was shorted by 46c. It is no big deal if they do not have the right coins, but in principle I hate this kind of behavior. At least, they should have acknowledged it. It might be better for take out, but I will not return for dining in.

What an absolute pleasure and delight to eat at this little place. I went here by request of my blind brother (and the restaurant catered to that). We took the stairs and seconds later he told me if we had just continued there was a ramp... Now for the food, it was incredible. We ordered a pizza with Artichoke hearts, Sundried tomatoes, Eggplant & --- Eggs on Top ---- . I usually don't take the time to make those little arrows to point out a wonderful addition to a pizza, but, there are some arrows for you all. Try a pizza with egg on it! I had to pay extra for it and had a few strange stares but, that is how to eat a pizza (the awesome way)! Where the white is barely cooked and you can break the yolks to have another delicious sauce on top. The crust was cooked to perfection, thin, crispy, delicious. The only reason this place gets a 4 instead of a 5 is because I had some huge horse flies visit our table more often than our waitress. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone as long as they ordered a pizza with egg on top!

Went to Salvation Pizza on a chilly December night. It wasn't crowded but UT was also on winter break so yeah. Walked in, wasn't greeted by anyone. Just decided to seat ourselves. Still not sure if that's what you're supposed to do. There were only two servers there who weren't particularly friendly or talkative. The meatballs were tasty and the pizza was good as well. Good crust. My husband and I shared the 14" and it was perfect for us. The food did take a long time though. I understand they make the pizza to order but it took about 35 minutes from the time we ordered. All in all, good grub, not welcoming service, and still not better than my other favorite pizza joint in town, in my opinion. I'd recommend it for the pizza and ambience only.

The Fi and I had been here before, ordered a pizza, and thought it was just OK. But this past time we went, we were blown away--- it was one of the best pizzas we have had in a looong time. We had the #7 altered to our tastes: basil, feta, red onion, artichoke, + sausage, and no olives. I think they added some extra seasonings on it as well. The "small" was no small pizza, it could have easily fed 4 people (we only managed to scarf half, the rest we took home). Oh, and how could I forget the great local beers they have on tap? (Only minus a star because if you come at dinner time there will easily be a long-ass wait, and there is nowhere to stand without being in an awkward spot... moral of the story: go early!)

Salvation does a fabulous thin crust style pizza. My favorite is the #3, jalapeno/bacon/asparagus, but all of their pizzas are super tasty. Second favorite is probably the white pie with chicken and prosciutto (#5 I think). The porch is a comfy spot to have a beer (love the Live Oak selection on draft), and the staff is friendly. I have, on occasion, had slow service in the past, but not as much lately (I come here at least once a month). If you come at an absolute peak time, it might not be a bad idea to ask how long a pizza will take before you are seated. Also, FYI, their current lunch special ($5.99 drink, 2 slices, salad) is an awesome deal.

FOOD: I'm usually pretty weary of going out for pizza. It's usually super greasy, I have to use 5 napkins to soak up the grease, and leave feeling super gross. I did not have that experience with this pizza. *high five!* I usually can only consume 1 or 2 slices in one sitting...nope, before I knew it, 1/2 the pizza had been consumed by yours truly! We had the #7 - nice thin crust pizza. ATMOSPHERE: Although I'm only a few years out of college, I felt pretty old there. But again, what do you expect? We're at a pizza places adjacent to a college campus! Also, if you enjoy hipster watching, this is a great location. VENUE: Pretty neat setup of a pizza place in an old house. The only part I didn't like was the hipster girl sitting right outside of our window smoking. The window sealing, I learned quickly, is well...non-existant. As a non-smoker trying to consume my pizza while her cigarette smoke is seeping through the windows...that's pretty gross. PARKING: Was a bit challenging, but we eventually found a spot! OH yes, and if you like neat-looking light fixtures, this is a great place to check out.

What a mess! Six of us went for lunch today. There was hardly anyone there and now I know why! We placed our order at 12:10 Three if us had the special which was two slices of pizza, a salad, and a beverage. Two had meatball calzones, One had a Greek salad.. It took fifty minutes to get our orders and we were in a foul mood as we had to get back to work. . The food was very mediocre and the calzones were very bland. Most of all, the service was pathetic. The waitress kept forgetting to bring parts of our order. I never did get my salad even though I reminded her. I realize that waiting on tables can be difficult and I try to be understanding but this was beyond understanding. The owner (assumption) came out at the end and poured more water and tea but he didn't seem to care that we were unhappy or apologize for the poor experience. The waitress offered a discount coupon for our next visit but we informed her that we were not coming back. Not every place is a home run but this was a strikeout!

What's the hype? I've been here twice. The pizza we ordered the first time was fine, but not memorable. Unfortunately, the next time around, we tried three calzones. Yuck. I was so disappointed. They use ricotta instead of mozzarella which makes for both an off taste and an odd, grainy texture. We ended up feeding the last 1/4 to the dog.

Good pizza, but not great. While I like thin crust pizza, ours came out burned. We wish it would have been cooked just a bit less. We started out with the garlic bread, but they didn't have any. So we got bruschetta, which was very good. For dinner, we got a Hawaiian pizza & a pepperoni w/mushroom, 1/2 jalapeno. Both seemed like they were missing something?? I even added salt, but alas, that didn't help much. The jalapenos were diced, but still I should have tasted them... The pizzas just lacked flavor. :( Overall, we had a nice time. Cute little house, nice server, a good amount of beers to choose from, good food. Just not my favorite pie in town.

We ordered take-out twice recently from Salvation Pizza. Their crusts were thin and crispy, just the way I like it. Their "small" pies were generously sized and could easily qualify as a medium elsewhere. The #6 (sausage, onion, jalapeno, black olive) and #2 (asparagus, bacon, jalapeno) were yummy. But #9 (white clam, bacon, lemon) had me at first bite. Fantastic flavour combination! On the other hand.... They forgot the lemon for the clam pizza. It's a good thing we had some in our fridge, as this essential ingredient pushed the formerly great pizza into the elite stellar category. The interior of the restaurant was stifling. Either the HVAC was not working properly or the current system needed an upgrade. Badly. I found it more comfortable to wait in their outside patio, even in the hundred degree heat. And the area nearest the bathroom smelled awful. Ventilation not working, or was it the plumbing? Both times, it made me very glad we had planned to eat at home.

I had a salad here with a house-made vinaigrette that was pretty potent, and a margherita pie. Theirs is quite non-traditional "white" style, in that they use tomato slices but no sauce. Usually if you're going to see margherita without one or the other, it's without the tomato slices. Well, it really could have used sauce. It was also saltier and tackier in texture than I'm used to. The crust wasn't something to avoid, but not something to look forward to, either. Not a failure, certainly edible, but no reason to go back because I know of too many other places where I can do better.

Lunch surprise today. I was on my way back from the tailor and remembered that I always wanted to try this place. Noticing on their website that they had a $5.99 lunch deal for 2 slices of pizza a salad and a 16oz drink. Cheap as I am I parked and walked inside remember not going here before because it always seemed so packed. It was just me and two other tables. I remembered this place and it brought back and nostalgic times when it used to be Starlite and I dated one of the owners briefly. I really just remember making out in the office upstairs. Anyway, there were four choices of pizza. Plain cheese, artichoke eggplant, pepperoni and mushroom and something else I can't remember. I ordered the artichoke eggplant and pepperoni mushroom. The meal started out with a small salad (it was enough) and it came with this amazing sun dried tomato dressing. I tasted it and BAM immediately fell in love with it. Apparently the owner created it. She should sell it by the bottle. My pizza arrived and the slices were huge. I immediately started digging into to artichoke eggplant. I tried to use a knife and fork because anyone that knows me knows that I even eat chicken wings that way. No dice. It was too crispy but in a good way. It was the kind you could fold but not overly crisp. Damn was it tasty. I was so amazed at the taste that were coming from this delicious piece of pizza pie. The sausage and mushroom pizza was really good but not as good as the first slice. It might have been that I was just full already. All in all this is one of the best lunch deals in town. It also has a really cool, large patio.

I'm slowly crossing off all the restaurants in the 10-mile radius perimeter by my work and I finally made it to Salvation Pizza on my second try. The first try had me driving in circles because of the construction and closed roads around 34th and Lamar. When I finally made it, my biggest, frustrating enemy, parking, decided I would not eat pizza that day. "Ok, fine, you win!" said an exasperated me as I sadly drove away, cursing all the lunchers slowly enjoying their slices on the patio. Well, I lived to experience Salvation another day. (er, Salvation Pizza.) I devised a genius plan to beat the system this time: turn onto 34th from Guadalupe and get there early. And that's how I found myself sitting outside on the patio at 11:23 a.m. waiting for Salvation Pizza to open after I had secured parking in front of the building. The things I do for pizza. Delicious pizza that is. The lunch special was a great amount of food. I suggest you say yes to tomato dressing for the salad and two huge slices (one pepperoni and one artichoke and mushroom) that had the right combo of thin and crispy crust, perfect seasoning and plentiful toppings. I promise I'll be back, waiting outside for you to open.

So in my experience at salvation pizza, service isn't always up to par. But can I tell you about my weekend? We decide to go for, what I believe to be the best pie in the city, (being from ny this pie trumps competition) we are greeted by a young lady at the front counter on Friday night. Super sweet. But super swamped. She was handling it well. She made a point of telling us it was "seat yourself service." For those of us who apparently can't read... Lol it's written on the board as soon as you walk in. Our bad.... We sit outside with a party if five and order some drinks with our server. It was the fastest service I have had there, EVER on a busy Friday. Sometimes we wait 5 or ten minutes before being recognized, but this was wonderful. Friends of mine who were also from ny, just here visiting, were ecstatic about our experience. And the pizza!!!!!!! Oh the pie that we had and it's thin crust! Yummy! Easy tiger bread is now on the menu being used for their bruschetta and garlic bread.... I can say that my service was wonderful. The staff was up beat and happy, and my belly was loving all of the good food this place had to offer. Thanks for bringing me back to home!!!!

3rd time is not a charm! Thought I would give Salvation another try since my husband likes the atmosphere but it was very disappointing! Knowing that they serve their pizza with little sauce and next to no cheese, I specifically asked the waitress for extra, extra sauce and extra cheese but the pie came out with little sauce and next to no cheese. The waitress spent all her time talking to the kitchen rather than waiting on her ONLY customers. We had to get up and ask for napkins and get up again to ask for the check. I think I would have rather ordered Papa Johns!

I'm kind of shocked that I missed going to this place over the last 3 years, as I have tried out quite a few restaurants in ATX, and especially since it's so close to the UT campus. I've past this place more than a couple times on my drive down W 34th and I guess it'd be hard to recognize this restaurant since its a house converted into a restaurant (gotta love ATX and it's house restaurants). Though I guess the huge front porch of tables should be a give away. This place is quaint and "Austin-y", so to speak (as it is a house). Stringed up lights on the outside, a bit rickety looking, wooden bar with beer on the tap and wine glasses hanging from holders on the wall, and a grassroots feel that I've come to know and love in Austin. The menu. This place is a bit expensive when it comes to pizza. You can order from 10 "favorite pizzas" w/ the toppings already set, or make your own pizza, while paying al a carte for each topping. Expect to pay more than $13 here for a pizza (unless you go for their lunch special which is $5.99 I believe for 2 slices, a salad, and a drink? Correct me if I'm wrong). The service was pretty good. The waitress was friendly getting our drinks right away and refilling them 2-3 times during my time here. My friend and I made our own large pizza and split the toppings in half. My friend ordered sausage, mushroom on his half, and I ordered shrimp, capers on my half. I have to say first, the wait was a bit long. A little over 25 minutes I think. However, the pizza seemed fresh when it came out. The toppings we had were very simple, so there wasn't a complex wow factor involved. I have to say though the pizza was quite good. The crust was thin and crispy, and the tomato sauce base, cheese, and toppings were all delicious. Salvation Pizza seems to be doing thin crust pizza quite well. The flavor and quality of the pizza was the real deal.

Salvation Pizza has consistently been our local pizza joint after moving into the neighborhood two years ago. The porch is not usually crowded and its great for dogs. Lately, though, we've been doing take-out and delivery (which just started this month) and service has been extremely disappointing. On at least three occasions I have come home and opened my food only to find that either the salad was missing, the dressing was missing, or the marinara for our garlic bread was missing. They don't seem to pay much attention to detail in this regard. Obviously, its worth it - because we keep coming back - but it would be nice to actually get what we're paying for. I'm revising my previous review (8/13) because I placed another delivery order and AGAIN my salad was missing. As was the ricotta on our pizza. Salvation has officially lost me as a take-out and delivery customer.

This past Saturday evening my wife and I decided to check-out Salvation for a quick evening snack. We decided to eat on the patio - zero wait and a great choice. One waitress was handling most of tables - she never disappeared for long yet she didn't hover around either - she was sweet and perfect - like their pizza. We ordered a small mushroom pie. My wife says that it may have been the best pizza she's had in Austin - quite a statement considering all the stiff competition. The crust is extremely thin without being too crispy - very nice and unique. The mushrooms were fresh and the cheese non-greasy. The over-all effect is a very "clean" tasting pizza with no grease and a ton of character. Salvation seriously hit the spot and the converted house-like environment adds to a laid back, casual experience. Can't wait to come back!

I really wanted to like this place. I really did! After reading the reviews and talking to a friend of mine, I thought I found a diamond in the rough. Alas it was not to be. First of all, there is no parking lot. The neighbors have one but the ominous towing signs warn all that parking there is a big risk. So it's street parking. All the way up the block I found a spot to park. So I traded my fear of getting towed with my fear of getting car jacked. Next we ordered a large pie and the wait was a little too long for my taste. It didn't look busy. The patio looks like it's a cool place to hang out if you don't mind weaving in and out and over other patron's dogs tied to their tables. OK now to the stuff that matters: The pizza is cracker thin. So the crust is too crunchy and a little charred. The cheese. Well what can I say there was some on there. Barely enough to cover the top. Don't be so stingy. Finally the toppings: I enjoyed the mix of green and red peppers. The hamburger(beef topping?) had no individual flavor. You can't just brown some beef and throw it on top of a pizza. So I was disappointed, but fear not Salvation Pizza, my friend, Monika, made me promise to give you another shot. So I will trek south once again to give you another chance. With $9 pitchers of Lone Star I don't think it will a total loss

Absolutely love their pizza! It's alway fresh and taste incredible. I am fan of their white pie and Garlic bread! Yum! It loses a star, however, because their service can be hit or miss. Sometimes you have someone that is spot on and gets everything right the first time and sometimes you have a person that might be on something and can't even remember the speciai. Other than that, I do love this place.

I came here for lunch because I saw their lunch special (5.99 or 6.99) advertised outside their door. The special is 2 slices of pizza, a salad, and a drink. Although it says "any two slices," the waitress told me I had to choose from three because they were premade. Anyway, I came by myself and am a fast eater, and it took me an hour and twenty minutes to eat here when the place was relatively empty. The couple behind me actually left after getting their drinks because they had been waiting on their salad for twenty minutes. And the pizza I had wasn't very good, but the other, non-special options on the menu looked great and would probably be good, especially if they were made fresh. I definitely plan on coming back for dinner some day, just to try it out. But I'm definitely never getting a lunch special there again.

Pizza is very, very good - what's best is that it's so big that even my teenage son can't polish it off. So I get to take some home with me - woo hoo!! Thin crust, nice spicy sauce (but not too spicy), fresh toppings. Baked to perfection! This is one of my favorite pizza places in town - never too crowded, but busy enough I don't worry about them going out of business.

The pizza is GREAT! My favorite in Austin. I recommended this place to all of my friends and they all agree. It gets pretty packed so you must go during slow days to really get the experience. You have to be careful in the Texas summers though. Flies love Salvation Pizza just as much as you do when you sit outdoors.

First of all let me say that I take pizza VERY serious, and when I have heard not only on Yelp but by my own friends about how good of pizza this place has, it was only a matter of time before I HAD to try this place. So about a week ago my buddies and I all decided to hit this place up before the NBA playoff games, the basic order on phone/pick up pizza/take it home type deal. What I got was not only a pain in the neck, but my friends literally wanted to burn this place to the ground because of what happen. First of all lets start with the calling situation. My buddies and I were all meeting up at a friends house and we were about ummm a little under an hour before the game started. (Which would cost us greatly unknowingly) So we call them up only to get either a busy signal or a stoned out sounding guy asking us if we could hold, which not to our surprise was obviously forgotten. Second when we finally DID get a hold of someone who could take our order not only were they rude about it but said "Give us about 45 minutes." 45 MINUTES FOR A PIZZA?! Already I was skeptical, but again my friend assured me that it would be worth it. Third when we arrived not only was it EXTREMELY claustrophobic, but when we asked for our orders (about 30 minutes after ordering) some had been ready for at least 10-15 minutes earlier and some weren't even made yet which confused us all. So we waited... And waited... Fourth the prices were out of this world, never have I ordered a half cheese half pepperoni-jalapenos-onions and ended up paying over $20 for it... Yes... $20!!! The total was $22.48 for a large pizza... That there sent me thinking before I got it. My buddy who loves meat got all meats large and it was over $30... And that pissed him off, not even realizing that he would have to wait ANOTHER 40 minutes to get his. Fifth after waiting for my buddies meat lovers pizza, we ended up sitting in my car (which due to parking issues was about 2 blocks away) LISTENING to the game on the AM radio while we waited eating the pizza due to the fact that these stoner pizza makers couldn't make a pizza without taking a bong hit break, when my buddie FINALLY got his pizza and out to my car, my other buddies had eaten their pizza and I was almost done with mine. Sixth the pizza WASN'T THAT GOOD the pizza sauce tasted like stuff you would put on bruschetta as far as tomatoes go, and the toppings were very under cooked, the pepperoni tasted like packaged pepperonis you get at HEB. They don't serve ranch with the pizza which is a big problem for me especially, and they give you a tiny little container of what few people would call parmesan cheese. Overall my experience here was not only a pain in my a$$ but I wouldn't go back here unless it was the only place within 100 miles to get a pizza. Unless you are dying of hunger (And I mean literally) And you are willing to pay $20+ for a large pizza WITHOUT delivery charges, then by all means try this place out!!!

Good pizza, but a little pricey for what you get. Being from Chicago leads to high expectations for great pizza. They make a very thin crust and were skimpy on toppings. Also, the sliced tomatoes were unrip (green). This was almost bad enough to send it back. Worth trying, but there are pizza places with much better value out there.

What a great little joint! It was our first night in Austin and we were tired from traveling, so I got on my handy lil Yelp app and Salvation Pizza came up. Since it was literally 2 blocks from where we were staying, we decided to give it a go. It was a Wednesday night around 830, and the place was fairly dead. I'm guessing since it's a college crowd that frequents Salvation Pizza, they were all studying. I think I did actually study on Wednesday nights in college, but it was so long ago, who really knows. Anyhoo, there is a very charming patio out front with picnic tables of all colors. The inside also has a sort of charming dankness to it. The lights kept flickering throughout our meal...perhaps the ovens use a lot of juice? It added to the ambiance, however. The food itself was very good. It only took our first meal in the State of Texas to realize that they really do everything bigger there. The bruschetta was about the size of my hand with what was most likely a whole chopped tomato on each bread piece. It was very fresh and crunchy. The small pizza was also huge at 18 inches around! We opted for half and half: the #5 white pie (chicken, garlic, proscuitto, red onion, sage) and #6 pie of sausage, onion, jalapeno and black olive. I enjoyed both but preferred the white pie. The crust was the real star, however. Super crunchy with a cornmeal bottom. Just delicious. They have great drink options as well. Local brews and decent house whites and reds for just $4.75 a pop. They also have a great happy hour that I would love to try next time I'm in town: 4-6pm and $15 pitchers. Not too shabby.

This place specializes in Napoleta pizzas, which are basically thin crust pizzas. I refer to them as "frou frou pizzas", similar to the varieties found in California specialty pizzerias (like California Pizza Kitchen), except better! The reason: not only is this a local place but they endorse and use locally produced products, including their herbs, veggies, and even their (tap) beer. Plus the dough and sauces they use are made fresh daily; the proof is in the taste. My favorite pies include: #2 - Asparagus, bacon and jalapeno (now what's not to love about this combination?!); #3 - Artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes and eggplant (and I'm not even a vegetarian); #5 - White pie, chicken, garlic, proscuitto and dried sage (de-lish!). Add a pitcher or two of Live Oak ($15 each, 4 varieties), sit out on the front-facing deck when the weather cooperates, and your experience will be complete.

Move over Mellow Mushroom! I can say without a doubt this is the GREATEST pizza I have ever had. After the first bite it felt like time just stopped for a moment and I became speechless. I'm not even quite sure how to describe how it tasted. I think only words I can think of are gooey, hot, crunchy and flavorful. The restaurant itself is pretty small, it seems like it used to be someone's house. The service here is great; our waitress was very observant and friendly. Even if you are a fan of another place, give this place a try before you make any judgments. Come with an open mind and you will become a believer just like me! O yea try the #5!

Much to my surprise, I really loved Salvation Pizza. I say much to my surprise, because I'm a pizza snob. I love NY/NJ style pizza with a soft, thin crust you have to fold in half, with cheese and sauce and oil dripping from it, with flavorful sauce, and simple toppings. Pepperoni. That's it. I don't like white pizza, I don't like a lot of fuss. Until now. We decided to go out on a limb and really try something different, and when the waitress told us we could do half and half (even half red, half white!), we were very excited to try two pizzas in one. So we went with #7 - Basil, red onion, artichoke hearts, feta, black olive, and #10 - shrimp, red onion, capers, lemon, with white sauce. Two pizzas I would never normally order. When I took the first bite of the #7 I was kind of overwhelmed in all my senses, the flavors were complex and rich and fresh. Not the kind of pizza I'm used to, but really, really good. The crust is as thin as it can get, and slightly crispy, although will bend without breaking, which is good. I prefer softer, but it was nice and light, and left all the glory to the toppings. The shrimp pizza (SHRIMP pizza?) was wonderful, I think even better than the #7. The tang of the lemon melted into the richness of the cheese and sauce, and tenderness of the shrimp. I loved this pizza. My mouth is watering now as I write this, and I'm still full hours later. I really want to try the clam next time. And there will be a next time. Because this pizza, although not what I normally think of as pizza, is really, really good. I'm not sure how it will reheat, though. We could barely get through half of a large pizza. My suggestion: come here to try something different. Don't get your "same-old, same-old." You'll be glad you took the risk.

Salvation Pizza owners: There's nowhere on your Website to contact you, so, hopefully, you'll read this. How about putting a vegan pizza, i.e., a veggie pizza with Daiya (or another non-dairy "cheese") on your menu?

Because my friend is such a huge fan of this place, it hurts my heart to write this review. But it must be done. The show must go on. The cow must be slaughtered. The rat must be poisoned. The elephant must be forced into animal cruelty by Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey circus. The bombs must fall over Baghdad. The horse's hoof must be made into glue. The piglet must giggle, cause that's the ticket. We must !@#$ on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday cause we chill on Sunday. This is a decent thin crust pizza place. Decent. I'd eat here again. No disrespect. It's just not the Mecca of Austin pizza. I mean, I like the layout. Nice and cozy. Wait staff was great. They definitely got some unique pizzas and I'll want to try those, such as the clam pizza, or the white pizza. But I don't think I will ever dream about these pies in my sky.

Salvation Pizza saved me last nite! I was two (or was that four) wheat beers into the nite with only one super sweet rib and two tiny quail wings to soak up the alcohol. Baaad combo. So's to complete a great nite of free food and booze and good company, bff and I came here for another shindig. A friend of his had won a "pizza party" here in a raffle. After an interminable wait while the staff called the manager to verify the freebies, we were able to eat (and they graciously upped the tab limit for us for making us wait). We ordered garlic bread and 4 different (huge!) pies. Now this may come as a surprise to some, but I don't like clams. But the dude across from me insisted on getting the white pizza with clams and bacon on it. I discovered I DO like clams, as long as there's bacon with em! Everything's better with cheddar and bacon! My other favorite pie was the bacon (duh), jalapeno and asparagus. What a flavor trip! All the pies were good and had super thin and crunchy and flavorful crusts! Wish they delivered to Cedar Park. They lose a star for me, cause that joint stinks! We were, I guess, in close proximity to the restrooms, but there was definitely a funk there. Bff said the men's room was Ghet. To., with a sign that said "Use at your own risk" and a wrench to operate the flusher, etc. So, fix your plumbin dudes! You may think that's quirky cute, but it's NOT in a food establishment. Also the wine sucked. The Vinho Verde was flat and the Primitivo, which I had never had and didn't know what it was, was nasty in my opinion. I got it cause I didn't want the Chianti, but they taste very similar anyway. Blech. Stick with the beer when you go (they don't have a full bar). Thanks Salvation for saving me from a hangover and for converting me to a clam lover ;)

Pizza is my favorite thing in the world. I can philosophize about pizza. I respect it more than any other food. 10 years ago our pizza scene was like 'meh, beats san antonio' -- Now, I daresay it rivals the NY-NJ area. (Sorry chicago, deep dish is vomit waiting to happen). I used to make my own decent pie at home and occasionally treat myself to a Home Slice Slice of heaven till I discovered true Salvation. It is hard to say which I like better in its own right. Neither is perfectly consistent in their perfection of the crust. The crust is the most elusive aspect of the pizza pie...ideally a dry micro-layered crispy candylike film at the base of the spongy, fluffy crust. I would give the 6th star but for 2 small things...Consistency of that perfect crust (Still better than 95% of alternatives---but not perfect). Second is the salad dressings...they used to have a fantastic tomato vinaigrette---I think they got a different source for the sundrieds cause it tastes just a little more bitter these days) I can't say for sure who makes the best pie between the two, but I go Salvation because its not overcrowded with loud SoCo yuppies and pizza posers stabbing each others backs just to get a parking space. Salvation is cozy, friendly, calm and has a patio. Price is fair compared to other elite austin pizza joints. Salvation indeed. Try the sausage.

My wife and I were in the neighborhood and why not stop in for a nice slice or two? Pizza, much like burgers or wings are something so ubiquitous it goes all over the map from heavenly to mundane. With a name like Salvation could it be? Have they rescued the pie from banality? We ordered the large fresh basil, feta, artichoke hearts, black olive and red onion. They did not ask me my crust preference nor do I usually care. I unfortunately now expect to pay for something as tasty as cardboard and as flaccid as an old man in a nursing home pre viagra. What we got was decent crust. Just the right thickness to hold up and tasty enough to be considered a bread product. There was noticeable yeast in this flour! I ate half of the pie and didn't feel I'd just eaten 2 cups of all purpose. The ingredients seemed fresh and the basil in particular hadn't been cooked until it lost all of it's garden fresh goodness. I'd stop here again. Usually I go for pepperoni and I'd like to try a meat based pie next time I'm in.

The reviews about their delivery are correct. They have horrible service and really have poor delivery practices. They better learn, cause I like their pizza, but they also lost a customer. The phone person was also nice enough to tell me I gave him an incomplete address, even though I remember telling him the address twice because he did not get it right in the beginning. I do not recommend them unless you are dining in.

Delicious pizza and a great location close to campus! Went here on a Friday night around 6:45 and they still had open tables, so no wait. The pizza was fresh and hot (love the thin crust). I'm not super picky when it comes to pizza (I'll eat anything!), but overall this place was a keeper for me.

Let me say firstly that I am a harsh grader on yelp, and that in my opinion very few places deserve 5 stars. That said, Salvation deserves the prestige. I'm a Austin transplant from NY and have tried most of the pizza offerings around the city over the last two years. Salvation beats them all, hands down for thin crust pizza. I usually try to get down there for their amazing lunch special - monday through friday 11:30-2 and order the two specialty slices(they also offer cheese and pepperoni). Every time and every slice I've ever gotten here has been wonderful. Thin crispy and flavorful with fresh toppings - great salad with homemade dressing also. They also let you take out the Lunch special with no extra charge. Whenever I get cravings for pizza, which is often, Salvation is at the top of the list - stop reading and go there to try any of their amazing pies. Cheers

Hippies make great pizza! Salvation was the best pizza in Austin and a staple of my diet. The flavor was wonderful from just a cheese pizza and the breadrolls are good as well. The crust is thin and good for rolling and the sauce and spice makes it wonderful. Salvation Pizza tastes much like Home Slice except that it is cheaper and much less busy. And the service is better. The servers are pleasant though clumsy (3 different waiters tripped over the same table our first time there). Never had any problems with any of them. Only complaints: They don't have anything but pizza and they don't deliver There is almost nowhere to park (like most of Austin).

Salvation is in our top 3 pizza places in Austin. And it is usually the only place we will order a whole pie. There are pluses and minuses to every place and this place isn't flawless but we always crave Salvation when it's pizza time. Pros- Awesome crust! Seriously awesome crust. Some great toppings (Sundried tomato done right!). Well balanced sauce. Cute 'looking' place (note cons). Mostly friendly staff. The owner is super nice and makes you feel accommodated. Big pizza. Cons- Sometimes they burn the crust a little- but it is a wood fire oven so we forgive. They've gotten a little stingy on the cheese (make sure to ask for extra). The place is so cute but is kind of sewer smelly. The last few times something has been leaking under the house and stinking up the place. Not good reheated. We get our pie to go and are so thankful for our Salvation pizza.

In the pantheon of heavenly pies, Salvation makes A-okay pizza. Ordered a small #7: fresh basil, feta, red onion, artichoke, and olives. First off, when I read "fresh basil," I think strips of fresh basil topping the pie like many places serve it, which is done for a reason. Salvation bakes it in, which causes the leaves to loose almost all of their basil-y goodness. Not a start of a beautiful friendship. The basil might have been fresh when they put it on but was no longer fresh basil. The other ingredients looked decent but none really zinged as I was eating, which made the choice of that particular veggie combination arbitrary, instead of artfully balanced. This lack of distinct flavor was further problematized by the sauce. The #7 comes with red sauce. Salvation's red sauce had a thin consistency, tasting of real tomatoes. I appreciated its freshness, but the sauce was not herbed enough or perhaps wasn't thick enough to satisfy. Altogether, it was too reminiscent of canned tomatoes or a salsa. Likewise, the cheese was good, both chewy and melty, which is essential for a thin pie. Overall, though, the flavor was enjoyable but nothing to write home about. The crust was my favorite feature of the pie. Thin and perfectly walking between crunchy and chewy. It was also nice to find out that the small, costing $15.50, was at least 14 inches. I'm still not sure, however, if that price was justified by the product. Their lunch special (2 slices, a salad, and a drink for $5.99) is indisputably the best value I've heard of in a long time (ends at 2pm!). Though not the best pizza in the world, I'd certainly go back for perhaps one of the best deals in the world. The selection of beer and wine is a great touch, too. But if I want to drink, I go to a bar. I go out for pizza for pizza.

The pizza is worth a trip, but the service is not, so call ahead and take your pie to go.

I have lived by the place for quite some time and never knew it existed! I have to say I was very satisfied with their pies. The crust is super thin, and the toppings fresh. This place rocks, and I would recommend it to anyone and their grandma!

I grew up eating stuffed crust pizza in Chicago, tried the oh-so-famous- NY pizza on first trip to New York, and of course, had the original white pie pizza in Rome and NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING compares to Salvations Pizza! I have the blessing to enjoy this pizza for the five years I lived in Austin. I have now moved away but occasionally drive up there to visit friends AND this pizza place is always one of my first stops. You can't go wrong with anything you order! Personal tip: Try the basil, sun dried tomato, and sausage pizza.. yum yum yuum! Down fall: It's not the cleanest restaurant out there. I must admit that I HAVE gotten a few hairs in my pizza (hence the 4 out of 5 stars. They would have gotten a 5 had that incident never occurred..) and swore I would NEVER go back- but I couldn't help myself......

Really good pizza. Really bad service. The pizza is thin crust and very flavorful. Perfectly cooked. The salad with the special is a bit of lettuce in a bowl, but the tomato dressing is tasty. However, definitely don't go here if you are on any sort of time table. We literally didn't get our lunch specials (2 slices) for an hour. And when we asked to pay we were informed no separate checks, but she could split payment. OK great no problem. 10 minutes later, still no check. Go inside to pay. No one inside. Finally ask chef if we can please pay. Waitress comes from back with a sign she was making saying no separate checks. Because clearly we can't understand that when you told us. Paid for a coworkers salad that should have been $9.50. But since we paid before the check was ever printed to confirm, the waitress conveniently told us it was $15. Interesting math. If you have a job where a 2 hour lunch is acceptable, this is a great spot. Nice patio, dog friendly, and good food. But if you're used to an hour lunch and good service, definitely not a place for you.

Let's keep it simple. If you like very thin, well done (aka crispy on the bottom of the crust) pizza, then this is your spot in Austin. I was told by the waitress that the owner is from Connecticut. Now, the best pizza I have had is at the Colony in Stamford...this is not the Colony, but it is purdy damn good. Salads are decent along with their dressings. I wish they had a couple of other options on the menu like maybe a hot sando for when I just don't feel like pizza (which is basically never...I just want sando and a slice). If you like it thin and crispy go.

One of the best thin crusts in town!!

  • Frances S.

Delicious thin cornmeal-crusted pizza pies! Easily some of the best pizza in town. And I adore that it's in an old house. HOWEVER, be prepared to wait a disturbingly long time. And pay a little extra to actually feel full (the downside of super thin slices). Because of their immense popularity and busyness, I no longer go here. Instead, go for lesser known but equally tasty places like House Pizzeria, Little Deli, Red House, and Eastside Pies. Service and wait time is strongly considered when rating a place, hence the 3 stars.

I tend to not be adventurous with my pizza. I order the same few toppings, and don't like to have my pizza "jacked with," as my mom would say. But when I went to Salvation Pizza, I was with a group, so I decided to err on the side of not embarrassing myself with my narrow-minded pizza opinions and let the group decide. Oh my heavens, was that a good decision. "The group" decided on the white clam pizza (with bacon), a margherita pizza (a standby for me), and something with asparagus, jalapeno, and more bacon. The clam pizza freaked me out conceptually-- boyfriend was educated in New Haven and swears by it, but clams on pizza definitely qualifies as "jacking with" pizza. I promised to taste a bite, in the spirit of trying new things. It was delicious. The clams were salty, and I didn't really notice them (I think the bacon helped with that), and it was just so tasty! The jalapeno-asparagus-bacon number was the real winner for me. The peppers added so much heat that it was hard to eat, but I just couldn't stop. I was grateful the server kept the pitchers of Blue Moon coming. The margherita was fine, but paled in comparison to the other two. Also, service was fast, efficient, courteous, and lovely.

Good grief, that's good pizza. While it might not be the ultimate pie, our large No. 1 (white pie, tomatoes, basil and garlic) with jalapenos was more than good enough -- and more than plentiful enough. A flavorful punch of quality ingredients on a tasty, airy thin crust. My Dr. Pepper was refilled efficiently, and his Malbec wasn't top-notch, but it sufficed. We have a couple of lunches at home now, too. Our waitress was swift, easygoing and on top of everything; the music and atmosphere were great for a super-casual date night. Pricing was a little on the high side, but the quality was there so I saw nothing wrong with it. I'd been here before on a chilly night when I'd opted for the patio, and while I like that part of the place in principle, tonight was just too cold to consider that choice again. Weird fact: There is a cat in the dining room. I do not like that in principle, either, but this cat was unobtrusive and good-natured.

OK, pizza is very good, crust is very good. I like the thin crust, as well as the toppings. So why 3 stars? A couple of points - first, crust, while good, was still a bit chewy. Second, relative to other pizza places that I would rate as a 4 (Olivettis in Dallas) or a 5 star (Cane Rosso in Dallas), it is a 3 star. So don't let the star rating fool you, it is worth the trip.

When you consider price vs food quality its a solid four stars Sauce is average in a good way and thin crust is nice and crisp. Obviously cooked in a proper pizza oven Interior is casual and clean

Home Slice is the Gold Standard for Thin Crust in Austin. Salvation is where to go if you do not want to drive all the way to Fort Knox. To be fair, although ultra-thin, this excellent stuff isn't really New York Style at all. You know that right away from the sauce. It is too fresh: you actually see the freshly cut tomato chunks in it. And that's the deal. This is where freshness on a crust has been resurrected. And putting these great fresh veggies and other toppings on top of a thin crust is truly Salvation. My litmus test is Mushroom and Onion. Very good. Very fresh, but not quite Nirvana. Pearl Jam, perhaps. So, to be fair, we tried one of their combinations. After all, would you ask Pearl Jam to do covers (other than Neil Young?) Of course not. You gotta let them do their thing. So.... Tonight we tried the #7 on their top 10 list: Basil, Feta, Artichoke, Olive and Red Onion ($21). With a side of an open mind. OK! Now we're talking...everything was balanced very well. I have to admit I was nervous at first. I could see myself getting punched in the face with feta or perhaps body slammed by the olives. But all of the ingredients danced together and nothing stuck out unobtrusively. It was actually quite like a symphony.... occasionally a topping would get it's solo. But mostly, there was harmony. And the added saltiness from the toppings on the #7 pretty much made it taste like a classic New York Pie. A bonus tip....if you have a baby at home and have no idea when you will actually eat your take-out pie, ask for it half-baked and then finish it off at your leisure!

The pizza here is pretty good, they are definitely different from most other pizza places. The toppings they have are pretty unique like shrimp, clams, artichokes, capers, and many more. The pizzas are made really thin so it has a nice and crispy crust, though sometimes the consistency is a bit off with the crispiness. The flavors are really good though, we had the #9 i believe with the shrimp, onions, and capers. Shrimps were fresh and it tasted like i was eating a pasta dish but in pizza form. The place is relatively small, probably wouldve never noticed it if it wasnt recommended to me by a friend. The people are nice and friendly as well. i dont know if it replaces home slice as my favorite in atx but the two are really close.

Salvation Pizza on 34th street has been the go to pizza place in Austin for several years now. We love going before and after all UT events and sitting on the patio outside on beautiful Austin afternoons. The pizza is decidedly NorthEast and extremely tasty. Typically we get the #6 as it has sausage and jalapeños for a little extra spice. We have never had a bad meal here. Their apps are plentiful and very good as well as their salads. Definitely try the warm spinach with bacon. The only downside typically is the parking as it can get very crowded at times.

Have ordered here for some time now. Their pizza has a thin crust with a perfect crisp. I always go pepperoni and Italian sausage. This pizza is great and one of my favorites in Austin.

It wasn't bad but it sure as hell wasn't good. Completely lacking in cheese, toppings are minimal, and the crust was burnt. For the price, you can definitely do better. I recommend the Hyde Park Parlour, they have the best pizza in Austin. Two stars instead of one because service was prompt and courteous.

I wanted to like this place as it is very close to work and has a nice small/home-like atmosphere. However, the place is filled with flies. At least 4/5 flies were buzzing around the inside the whole time. On top of that we waited an hour after ordering our food and it still had not arrived. Customers who came in after us had already received theirs. We just asked for two small pizzas too. After an hour the waitress comes back to ask us what we even ordered because apparently it hadn't even been made. We apologized and told her that we had to walk out as that is just unacceptable. I try to be fair and considerate when reviewing places but I have to say that I felt pretty neglected since our orders were forgotten and we waited unnecessarily for an hour. Definitely not coming back.

My friend had their meatballs and said it was great, I had a calzone which was just okay. They had a mixup in the kitchen so I didn't get my calzone for a really really long time, but they gave both of our meals to us for free and asked if we wanted a free appetizer too and then gave us coupons for our next visit: that's what I call great customer service!!!!

Yummy calzones! Huge portions on everything with uber-friendly service in a very chill environment. Enjoyed hearing the chef sing off key some Italian ballads, against a reclaimed wood, warm atmosphere..authentic pizza dough flavored come through in this hidden Austin gem!

When I make a pizza list of places in Austin, this will be in the top three. The crust here is my favorite crust. It is so thin, but not overcooked and not doughy in the center. Because the crust is so thin, you may want to order slightly more than you normally would. There were six of us and we normally get two pizzas, but I think we will get three next time. That might be a bit too much, but they are so good! This is a seat yourself place in a cute house. The patio and outdoor seating area look wonderful, but we seem to only come here when it's cold, so we go for the room in the back if we can get it. Service is attentive, timely, and friendly. No lemonade! So my lemonade loving child had apple juice.

Thin. Ultra thin. Paper thin. VERY THIN crust. It's sooooo good. Completely amazing. Great toppings, lots of choices! Beer, wine, sodas. There are salads too! The service has always been impeccable to boot. Cute house with a glorious little back room (if you can get it) and an amazing patio! Love pizza? Go today!

Meatball calzone is a great purchase, it feeds two people easily. Cannoli's are made fresh along with all other desserts. Staff is welcoming and can make fitting suggestions on what to eat.

Great thin cost pizza. Delicious pepperoni and sausage. Accidently delivered a large pizza when we ordered the small. Then have us the small price even though we had a groupon. Great service. Great music and comfortable seating. Even a patio. Perhaps the best part is the location. It's a house with a neon sign. Don't be worried when you pull up to a red house. You are in the right location. I wish they had pasta and cannoli oh and garlic bread while you wait. Then it would be 5 stars.

Even though I am not a pizza person (yes such people do exist), I loved Salvation Pizzas! Their pizzas have a nice crust which is not too doughy, and they are generous with their toppings I have tried a couple of them by now, and have both eaten in the restaurant, as well as done a takeway. The service is friendly and welcoming. They have a garlic base white pizza with artichokes, chicken and something else, I absolutely love that one. There is also a spicy one which is loaded with meat and jalapenos which is quite delicious as well. One of the best pizzas in Austin!

Although not a pizza-holic about once a month or so I crave thin crust tomato-based pizza with flavorful toppings. And oh, if it won't break my bank account to get it that's even better. Like say, Salvation, yeah, that's the ticket. Having tried them over two dozen times I can say they are very consistent: I think I may have been disappointed once by a slightly burnt crust. While I always pick it up on the way home Salvation is a great place to have a pizza with a couple of cool inside rooms and a large covered patio outside with breezes. Parking on the street, a little cramped but much better than downtown. Good pizza, cold drinks, laid back attitude and fair prices: what's not to love?

I have heard from other reviews that delivery, pickup and lunch special orders go terribly wrong. I've only ever been at around shift change for happy hour (4-6pm), so I've never encountered these problems. Since they're always selling Groupons, it means that I get $2.50 pints of craft brew and some really delicious thin crust pie for a super reasonable price. Pluses: cool wooden interior and patio; tasty, giant pies (I like the white pie with shrimp); great happy hour beer prices. Minuses: flies everywhere, always; small beer selection (four taps, often with very similar styles) with regular outages; slow, inattentive servers, even at off-peak times. If you're patient and come at the right times, you'll still have a good time here for a good price, and the pies are some of the better ones in town. If you're particular, demanding, or in a hurry, this will not be your scene. It's prototypically Austin as a service concept.

Got the Hawaiian pizza. It was dry and salty. Did not taste fresh. The crust was good. Also, they don't offer broccoli as an option. What's up with that? Also, they claim to be "New Haven style" pizza, is that just code for not good? I guess, what can you expect from pizza in Texas.

This place was highly recommended from another pizza fanatic that loves thin crust pizza as much as I do. Yes, we're both nuts but Chicago THIN crust is the best! Square cut all the way! Anyway, on a random Tuesday evening, my favorite pizza eating buddies decided we should go get some pie. Really twisted my arm on that one so we ended up at Salvation on Rainey. The restaurant is new, the interior was nice and clean, and it being a Tuesday parking was easy to find on the street. Not sure if they validate any parking in the garage, but I think it says something like $60/day! (I hope I misread that, but I swear that's what the parking garage sign stated.) So we order a couple different pies, the selection was great, loved the toppings choices. The crust was really thin, to the point where the crust couldn't support the toppings (and all I ordered was a sausage pie.) Maybe mine was under-cooked a little, because the crust needed more of a crispness to it. I couldn't even lift the pie when it was folded Next time I'll order it well done and see if it comes out any better. I'll be back, as I'll support any pizza place that serves thin crust. Now if they would only cut it in squares...

I must start off by prefacing that I was very hungry prior to picking up my order. I must also say that I never leave leftovers when it comes to pizza. That being said... There's still plenty of leftovers in my fridge. From a bar and restaurant enthusiasts' perspective I'd give it a bit more credit. It's definitely a joint for other Rainey street yuppies to hangout after work. The service was pleasant and attentive. The ambiance modern, bright, and relaxed. The place even had a fully stocked bar which you don't often find at pizza joints which segways perfectly into my review of the actual pizza. BAD. It's not ok. It's not not bad. It's just bad. No flavor in the sauce. Stingy on the toppings. Bland flavor. It tasted more like eating over cooked pita with cheese and tomato sauce. It was also very very dry. I'm not a lover of greasy pizza but I don't think you could even ouiji a drop of oil out of it. Bottom line...Good for a drink after work. BAD for pizza.

First visit at new location on Rainey, late lunch so me and a friend split a calzone and salad all were very good. 4 1/5 stars! However I just ordered for delivery, first the girl got lost, even though I live less then a mile away. Next she gave me the wrong pizza, I called an she came right back and was very apologetic no harm no foul..crap happens. But now my pizza is cold and it is missing an ingredient I am sure I paid for. I am sure I will give them another try ..since they are new and probably don't have all their ducks in a row yet! however I think I will pick up only from now on.

New Haven style Pizza, featuring a very thin crust which to the conclusion of most at our table was probably too thin, it basically broke apart like a cracker. The Caesar salad was excellent, full of what tasted like fresh croutons. I did not try the Greek salad but others mentioned that it was also good. We had two large pies, one custom pepperoni and peppers and the #5, a white pizza with garlic, chicken and other tasty ingredients. The #5 was the better of the two pizzas mostly because it featured more flavors and I have always enjoyed a good white sauce on pizza. All in all, I couldn't fall in love with this place since nothing really stood out to me enough to want to go back. The pizza is large but definitely costly for what you get in crust. Our friends who are from Connecticut even gave it a "meh" rating over all.

Outstanding pizza. I grew up around New Haven CT, and these humans are close. Its still not New Haven pizza, but its getting super close. In the pizza desert that is Texas, this place is an oasis. (you need a hotter oven buds, otherwise you won't get the burnt spots underneath!)

As my blunt boyfriend put it, "Um, why didn't we just go to Mellow Mushroom?" I suppose he wasn't impressed with the flat sodas, GIANT-ASS FLIES flying around the inside area, the fact that it took our server foreverrr to greet us and take our order despite being the only other table there. Or maybe it was the fact that life is too short to eat just 3 star pizza in a 5 star pizza city. . .

Been a fan of the #9 White Clam for some time now. However, the last 2 visits when I went to pick up my pizza I received some bizarre customer service. The gal who rang me up greeted me upon arrival, informed me that my pizza would take a few more minutes (which is perfectly fine, I like a hot pizza) However, when it came time for her to hand me the pizza she didn't even bother to say thank you or anything. She just handed the pizza to me and said, "here". WTH? No thank you or enjoy, nothing. Sorry Salvation I won't be returning. I don't need the attitude.

In my experience, thin crust pizzas are pretty hard to pull off -- they either come out as pieces of cardboard or gooey mush that feels like they haven't been cooked properly. But not to fear, Salvation Pizza does it right! They could probably stand to be a little cheaper, but hey, for a well-made thin-crust, I say it's completely worth it and would definitely go again.

Well I've found my little slice of home. I am from the New Haven, Connecticut area so you can imagine my delight, and suspicion at hearing about 'New Haven' style pizza. GREAT crust. Thin but not totally flimsy. A lot of fresh flavor. I think I wanted a little more cheese on it. I'll be coming back for round two, three, etc.

I went here a few months ago before a football game, and the food was lovely. We went around 2:00PM on a Saturday, and it wasn't too busy. Since the weather was nice, everyone was sitting on the patio. Our group of three ordered the garlic bread for our appetizers. The bread came as two small loafs that were already spread with garlic. The bread was fresh and tasty. A gigantic bowl of marinara sauce came with the bread. We had a enough left over so that we could even use the sauce as a dip for our pizza. For the pizza, we ordered a Small #1, which is a "white pie with fresh basil, fresh garlic, sliced roma tomato." I usually do not order thin crust pizzas because of the lack of support. However, this pizza was actually pretty good. It held up the tomato and basil. The white sauce was light and creamy, and the pizza was not too greasy. In total, the pizza had 8 slices. We could have saved one of the slices, but our group of three was able to finish the pizza off. When we left, we were definitely stuffed. We will return again. *There is not a parking lot, so you have to park in the street. However, there were plenty of options if you are willing to walk a little.

Nice atmosphere although the interior acoustics were pretty bad. There were people a few tables down who were talking really loudly and it was coming off the walls like armor piercing missiles. Sitting outside or in another part of the restaurant probably would not be as bad, but we were there at lunch, I can only imagine what it would be like at night time. They had a nice playlist of music going, the pizza was decent and service ok. It's always tough for me when reviewing pizza. It's such a hugely popular food and available all over, but few places do it really well. It should be noted that I'm from Chicago born and bread and I am a tough critic on pizza. My experience has been that unless you grew up on or have had pizza in the Midwest, East Coast or Italy, it's hard to be a good judge of pizza and know when it really is good pizza. There are exceptions outside of these areas and don't take it the wrong way, there are so so pizza places in Chicago too. Plus, I'm not going to be an expert on lobster and the best chocolate danish I ever had was at the airport in Copenhagen. It was a pretty immaculate airport though.

I liked the pizza, maybe some of the best I've had in Austin in the past 2 years, but that doesn't say much because I have yet to find great pizza in Austin. Expect a lot of families and kids, but the outdoor patio isn't bad despite this. Our service was incredibly slow, we ordered bruschetta, which is really just diced tomatoes and onions in oil and vinegar in a bowl with four measly pieces of over toasted bread, which should not take long at all, but took like 30 min to get to us, and when we tried to order more bread, it took another 30 min. Our server was however very nice, but something wasn't working that day and didn't sit well with me. I probably won't be back. Sorry

I confess, I haven't been back here since the last time there was a living social deal. I hear ownership changed and the place feels emptier than it did before. Despite it being 6:30 when we went, there was no one in else in the restaurant on a Tuesday. More room for us, so no complaints there. I got the #5 and, sadly it kinda disappointed. The flavors felt less punchy than before; I didn't even feel the salt from the prosciutto. The crust was a bit burnt on our pie too. It just didn't have the "pop" anymore to the pie. The ingredients are still fresh and the white sauce is still nice and creamy but I feel like the magic was gone. We also got the garlic bread, and while it looked divine, especially after hearing such good things about it, i expected more garlic bite and more butter, but again, it just felt less magical than before. It came with marinara sauce, but it tasted very flat, dull and for lack of better word raw. The tomato acidity was way too strong and while chunky, wasn't the marinara thick kinda chunky: more like large coursely diced tomato chunky. On the bright side the service was great. I really hope it was just an off day in the kitchen...

I love salvation pizza def Austin's best pizza place!!! Me and the family went yesterday 5/25/14 and enjoyed the porch setting . The waitress was very nice even tho we took forever to decide what pizza to get! But when we order and she brought out our pie she told us that she had another one being made because the first one didn't look well! So our second one was free and looked even better! We will continue to be customers at ATx best pizza !!

The pizza was decent. Not my favorite. There was way too much sauce on the pizza causing it to be soggy. I'm a cheese kind of guy not sauce. And personally I dislike places who charge for a side of ranch.... Especially when you order it and don't receive it with the pizza. I had to personally go up and ask for it. Overall it was okay.

We really liked this place! Yummy pizza, craft beers, and friendly service. Loved that it's located in a historic home with a great patio, too. Charming little place, for sure!

This place sells "New Haven" style pizza. I had to look up what that is. Basically thin crust pizza, with oregano, usually tomato sauce and very little pecorino cheese. That pretty much sums ups up what I have had there. They also have several white pizzas without the tomato sauce. One time we did try the shrimp pizza. It was meh. Obviously using frozen or maybe even canned shrimp. I have also has the white chicken pizza, probably frozen chunk cut up and not the highest quality. At least that is how it seemed. I think I would go back for a tomato, basil or vegetarian pizza. Service is pretty good. Glasses are kept full. The pizza is pretty good. I like the location and the atmosphere.

If you ask to get this pizza cut into squares, Sicilian style, you can almost pretend you're on the south side of Chicago, at your local pizza joint. Almost. This pizza is thin -- so thin, you'll want to order a size larger than normal -- but not so thin that it's flimsy. It's amply sauced, but not overcheesed. It's the best pizza in this city. However, the place isn't very well air conditioned, so I tend to avoid it during the hottest days of the year. And I ache, I ache.

This use to be my favorite pizza place. My love for Salvation developed when I moved in next door to it, 6 years ago. I eat a pizza at least once a month. Okay, once a week. Roughly, it's safe to say I have ordered 200 pizzas from them. Today, I ordered my last. My reason? Horrific customer service. The worst. I have been hung up on, lied to and argued with on multiple ocasions. Today was the last straw. All I wanted was a split pizza. A pie style I have ordered Many times from this place. I believe Pizza Hut offers this service as well. The girl on the phone told me that they don't split pizzas. I explained I had ordered the same pie before. She repeated herself, adding that she had worked there for 3 years and they aren't offering that service. Which was a fat lie, I ordered the split pie last week...situations like this happen with embarrassing frequency. Here are some suggestions for you and your growing buisness: Rule #1 never argue with your customer. Rule #2 keep a customer log so you can track your regular customers and treat them well. Eastside Pies offers this service (they also remember your name and what you frequently order. Rule#3 If you mess up an order you discount or buy the meal. Always. Rule#4 Chill out and be friendly or lower your prices. People are not going to like paying up-end prices while receiving low-end service. It's been a fun ride Salvation. Peace out.

We've had several decent meals here before and ordered take-out as well. Today was different though. When we ordered our pizza for take-out we were told that it'd be a 45 minutes to an hour at most. It took an hour and 20 minutes and when it arrived it was luke-warm at best (as was the caprese salad), and had shifted all over the inside of the box. The delivery driver seemed frazzled; I don't blame him for the delay. When I called at around 70 minutes I was told that the driver was out but if I hadn't seen him in another 15 to call them back - got the impression that it just wasn't their problem. I know that things get busy from time to time, but if you can't deliver a hot pizza then you should pass up on a few delivery orders (I could have gone and picked it up if there'd been an issue). If a pizza is going to take 90 minutes to deliver, don't make it as soon as the order comes in, and just tell people the truth in your estimates. That's all. Oh - there's now a $20 minimum for ordering delivery, which I don't object to in principle but which would have been helpful to put on their online menus. Same problem as the other one really - poor communication (internal and external) more than anything else, which turns minor irritants into more significant problems.

It's really bad when you know you aren't coming back to a place even before you've eaten the food. We ordered a couple of calzones and salads and went to pick them up around the time they told us they would be ready. When we got there the girl working the counter said "Oh yeah, we were out of the filling you wanted and the guy who took the order didn't get your number. " So they were lazy/don't have caller ID but she tried to make it up me by getting me something else, I declined because we didn't want to wait anymore it had already been 45 minutes at this point. She said my salad would be free so I was fine with that. I wanted a calzone, but I could live with just a salad for the night. At this point I was ready to give them another shot in the future. There were some problems, but they were trying. We were asked to wait a minute and our (amended) order would be out. After 30 minutes it was obvious, my wife's meal hadn't been started until we were in the building and we were waiting for them to prep and cook it... When we finally got our food I asked her why we weren't told that it would be another half hour and she told me she didn't know it would take that long and there were some communication problems... That couldn't be more obvious. I was still willing to give them a shot after the first round of screw ups and I would have given them another chance if we were told it would be another half hour before our food would be ready. Hell, I would have ordered something if I'd known!!!! But that's it, not gonna try them again. If you can't be honest about a few, easy to fix mistakes you don't get my money.

Pizza is good, service lacks initiative and follow through. We dined in, sitting there enjoying the ambiance. The pizza comes to our table only to be dropped by our server in front of our table. Mistakes happen, no worries. I watch as the table across from us get a free pizza because they put the wrong toppings on it. I ordered extra cheese on our pizza. It finally comes, no extra cheese. We eat the meal and get the bill. No offer to discount or pay for our appetizer. Nothing! Meanwhile, the table next to us gets two pizzas, one for free. Riddle me this batman, am I prick for thinking they should have offered something for our trouble?

I went on a Saturday, and discovered they only sell slices M-F at lunch. Pizza parlors the world over have figured out the complex algorithm of how to provide slices every day, taking into account the varying customer patterns of each day, so as not to waste any pizzas. Ordering a whole pizza for myself was not an option because I was not that hungry and I couldn't bring any leftovers home since I was riding my bike; so I ordered a sandwich, but was told they couldn't make the sandwich because they didn't have the bread. So I left. I returned the next day in my car, and ordered a small cheese pizza, just so I could use my Groupon before it expired. The pizza was average at best and I have no plans to go back.

Wanted to like this place based on the reviews but it really didn't live up to the hype for me. Came here after church which was around 1230pm. Was really surprised how empty it was. Normally this is a plus for me but my dad always taught me slow restaurants means the food isn't so great. Unfortunately this was closer to the latter. The pizza is just average and the calzones are definitely forgettable. We ordered a meatball calzone expecting more meat but it might have had about 4 small ones in there so that was disappointing. My loyalty still lies with Home Slice.

I went today and had a bug in my water and the cup looked dirty, I told the waitress and she didnt even apologize or aknowledge it at all. She just took the cup and brought a new glass. The waitress moved very slow, and was rude.

As a native New Englander who frequently traveled between the NY and Northern New England area, New Haven was a compulsory stop to sample the wonderful charred thin crust pizza that the area is noted for. Spending the winter in ATX, I was exited to see Salvation Pizza advertised as "New Haven style". The overall experience was excellent, The crust was appropriately thin, the sauce was not overly salty and tasted fresh, and the toppings complemented the basics perfectly. This could easily have been a five star review had the crust been properly charred to make it a truly "New Haven style".

Still just as amazing as it was the first day I tried it. This pizza is still the best well-made and affordable pizza in town. It is never difficult to find a good table, the service is always good, and the food comes out quickly and as ordered. The salads come with a wonderful house-made tomato vinaigrette and the mixed greens are perky and fresh. The pizzas are loaded with topping which are evenly distributed across each slice. (Shout out to those of you who have ever picked up a slice missing all but one topping.) The reason I am updating this review is because I found out the secret to their delicious pizza sauce. The tomatoes are fresh, chosen carefully, and cooked gently. Oh, and one more reason: their garlic bread (made with Easy Tiger bread) sends me to garlic-y heaven.

Hands town, one of the top pizza places in Austin. Prices are very very nice, especially during their happy hour and all day Thursday. The patio is spacious, and the inside is really comfortable and clean but not in a museum way. And most importantly, the pizza is ridiculously good to boot. Our waitress was really nice and gave us a bunch of coupons for delivery and dine in.

First time to eat salvation to go. Somewhat disappointed. Ordered a large pepperoni. Most slices had less than two pepperoni on the slice. I even had one slice with a half piece pepperoni. W tha hec? I tipped 5$. Why ya gotta be so stingy on the pepperoni???????????!????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mushroom, spinach, and garlic calzone I had was fantastic. Hadn't tried any pizza places around Austin and I'm glad my first stop was here. I was craving calzones and they hit the mark. Great ingredients, seemed fresh, good beer on tap, nice atmosphere.

In my opinion, I like Salvation Pizza a lot more than Homeslice! I've been to the restaurant twice, and I was satisfied every time. It's never too busy when I go, so service was always great. The pizzas do take long to make, but it doesn't matter because it was made for my order. If you can't decide what to order, they are always willing to make half orders. I've tried the White Shrimp, White Pie Chicken, and the Hawaiian. White Shrimp: I've never had pizza with capers on it, so it was interesting. But the sauce and the shrimp, collaborated very well. White Chicken: YUMMY! is all I will say. You can try it out. Hawaiian: I was skeptical to try because Hawaiian is such a common topping that you can find at any chain pizza restaurants. But it was still very good. The ham and the pineapples were perfectly cooked. The only con is that it can tricky to find a parking spot. Boyfriend is a huge Homeslice fan. Can't wait to take him to Salvation and change his mind.

Back again and it continues to be consistently fantastic. This time I brought a group of 14 and they had the space reserved, even had a wooden "Meetup" sign on the table for us! The server was excellent and the pizza was spot on. I'm giving them 5 stars for the effort, but seriously Salvation, upgrade the A/C. We nearly died in there!

Overpriced and underwhelming. Ordered by phone for pickup, wasn't ready when i got their. Had to wait for the pizza too be made. When I got it it didn't have one at the toppings I requested, went back request the topping for only a measly scattering of basil. Not impressed, I won't be back.

I like pizza. A lot. I am not a picky pizza eater either. I am just not a fan of this place. Our pizza was SO salty. The patio was filled with an excessive amount of lunch time smokers. They don't have Peroni (or any Italian beers for that matter). I would rather spend my money and time somewhere else.

My first and last experience at Salvation Pizza was with a Groupon. Like many others, I waited until the last day to redeem and started calling to order my pizza at around 7pm. Got nothing but a busy signal or voicemail until 9pm, when I finally decided just to go down there. When I arrived there were maybe 10-12 people sitting around eating or waiting for their pizzas. When I stepped up to order, I was told it would be an hour. I placed the order for a Hawaiian (they were out of pineapple) and another pizza. I paid a couple of dollars for the overage from the Groupon and left. My boyfriend returned an hour later to pick up the pizzas and was charged another $6. So, charged twice for what turned out to be some of the crappiest pizza I've ever had. It was boring at best. The crust was rubbery and burned on the bottom, there was very little sauce, and white onions were subbed for red onions on one of their specialty pizzas. I was pretty unimpressed. The next day, I called and spoke to the girl who had helped me the night before and explained the over-charge issue. She seemed put-out and dutifully took down my information promising to issue a refund to the card. A week later, still no refund. I just called them again a few minutes ago and was told that I'd get a phone call back, but you know what...I'm not holding my breath. Salvation Pizza means well I'm sure, but they seem to be inconsistent, as well as unable to handle an actual restaurant rush. I wish that I had gotten some of the pizza and the experience that people on here are raving about. But, I didn't. For a better alternative, I'd recommend Promise Pizza over Salvation any day of the week. I never did get a call back from a manager, nor a refund for the overcharge. If you want horrible pizza, just eat a Totino's and save yourself the experience of dealing with Salvation Pizza's bitchy attitude.

If you are in the mood for some super thin crust, scrumptious ingredients and a quaint setting, this is the place. Just off of the drag, you are set back in a 20's style craftsman house with a great patio- with fans..and in Texas its a must! I had pepp and jalapeno. I love how the jalapenos are diced small instead of whole..you get a spicy flavor in each bite. The crust is what makes it though. Crunchy yet soft crust...homeslice has nothin on this crust (don't get me wrong, I can throw down some Homeslice pizza). Setting is not too collegy...ages were mixed...try it

Ate it on my birthday. Best pizza I've ever had. Big too. Thin, crispy, flaky crust. I could eat it every day and never tire of it. The crust is not sweet tasting like some of those chain pizza joints, but slightly salty. We got take-out so I won't comment on the service or the place.

I spent $22 with tax for a large pizza - it was supposed to be a #3 Artichoke hearts, sundried tomato, eggplant - I added sausage and all I really had was a dry pizza bed with splotches of red sauce ( who is stingy with red sauce?) , a bit of mozzarella, a tiny amount of black eggplant and single leaves (really) of artichokes, sparingly placed on the pizza. If I hadn't added the sauages I would have had salt, garlic and basically a naked pizza. The only ingredient they were generous with was salt....

This pizza is awesome, the atmosphere cozy, and the young man working, Wes, was kind and attentive and very helpful. When my husband couldn't decide between two of the house special pizzas, Wes said he'd do the pizza half and half. If you like super thin crust pizza, Salvation Pizza is really very good.

we ordered take out from Salvation tonight. the #6 i believe, with jalapenos, olives, and sausage. a combo that went well with the chunky, basil inflected tomato sauce and the thin, crispy crust. they quoted us 25 minutes and the friendly dude brought the pie out in 20ish when i arrived. good stuff!

This place is cool. Very unique atmosphere. When I went it wasn't very crowded, it was quiet and comfortable. The menu is also unique, don't go expecting to find a meat lovers pizza on the menu. The ingredients are quality, stuff you're more likely to find topping pizza in different parts of Europe than in the US, such as clams, proscuitto, fresh basil, feta, artichoke hearts, and dried sage. I ordered pie #5 White pie, chicken, fresh garlic, proscuitto, dried sage, and it was VERY good. The taste was perfect. The pizza was so good each slice left you hungry for more. A large pizza really only will feed two hungry college guys even though it looks huge. The price for one large specialty pizza is pretty exorbitant compared to a pizza from Papa John's but I guess Austinites are accustomed to expensive pizza thanks to establishments such as Homeslice and Southside Pizza. Our bill for two came out to $34 after the pizza and a couple of drinks. About the same price you can get a couple of steak dinners for at some restaurants. I guess I would give the restaurant 5 stars if not for the price. The high prices make this joint reserved for special occasions rather than a place to grab a quick bite regularly. Service was slow, but friendly so it cancels out IMHO.

Good lunch special. Good pizza. I had both the #1 and #2 with the lunch special. #1 White pie, fresh basil, fresh garlic, sliced roma tomato #2 Asparagus, bacon, jalapeno. The sun dried tomato dressing rocks. My biggest complaint is that they were seriously understaffed for the lunch crowd. I won't be going back until that's fixed.

The Ninja Turtles would feel right at home here, because this pizza place smells like a sewer. I can't complain about the pizza, it's great. But I will never come here again until they address their plumbing problem. We sat inside and gagged from the terrible smell. We then moved outside, but every time the wind blew we could smell raw sewage again. I really feel bad about having to give this place two stars, because I don't think the food deserves it. Our waiter was very nice, and very accommodating, so the service doesn't deserve it. Again, I stress that this rating is solely because the atmosphere literally stinks. The smell is SO unappetizing that the food is the only reason they got a star at all. Seriously, I don't want to smell overpowering human waste when I'm about to eat. Here is a mantra to remember when craving pizza from this place: 'Those in the know will get it to go.'

The pizza was okay. The service was awful! Our waitress told us she would bring us a salad. An hour later the pizza comes with no salad. After we finished the pizza we guessed how long it would take to get the bill. We lost track of time it was that long. We (2 people) spent almost three hours when we only ordered 1 pizza and a salad that took 2 seconds to put together.

The pizza is great. The servers are friendly. But there's just something lacking that makes me want to give them 5 stars. First of all, I went with a friend and we has the garlic bread and the #10 shrimp pizza. the garlic bread wasn't very garlicy, or cheesy, next time i'll add the extra 25 cents for the bruschetta and see how that is. The pizza was pretty amazing. Great toppings that actually tasted fresh. Definitely worth another trip to try the other combinations. If you're craving a good pizza and are around UT's campus, I would recommend going to salvation pizza.

$6 2 slice lunch combo with decent salad and drink. What more needs to be said. This is the best lunch deal I've found in the area. Ok, the (thin) crust is quality and the selection of lunch special pizzas has a decent amount of variety. The salads have only a couple dressing choices (a vinagrette and an italian if I recall correctly), but are otherwise solid. I have yet to get a full pie from here but for lunch you can't go wrong. Highly recommended, especially on a nice day.

I ate at Salvation Pizza for the first time today. They used to be closed on Mondays, but not anymore. I got a lunch special that was a salad, two slices of pizza, and a drink. Everything was really good. I took a pizza back to my job so that my co-workers could try it out, and everyone seemed to like it. It's very thin crust pizza, which I like. The seasoning seemed good, too. The place was pretty cool looking, and I would think Austinites would like hanging out there since it is very eclectic. It has a cool porch for eating outside, too. You may not know where to park when you first drive up, but you can park down any of the neighborhood streets.

Pizza is not my favorite food, and I think I know why. For years I ate the commericaly popular Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa Johns...and that's it. And I always left feeling a less love for pizza. Well, I have 2 family members who L O V E pizza and are always on the hunt for the perfect slice. So I tagged along on their quest and we ate at Salvation Pizza. We had one pepperoni and one white pie. It took a little longer to arrive at the table, but you can't rush prefection. Plus we had ice cold pitchers of Lone Star to keep us happy. When the pizza came out it was thin, hot, and awesome. The four of us devoured every slice of both pies and a couple more pitchers. When it was done, not just any pizza, but Salvation's Pizza had climbed into the top 10 of my favorite foods of all time. Before I can erect a statue in it's honor I need to return 100% sober, and not 82%, to ensure it was my brain and belly that liked it, and not the Lone Star. But I can't imagine the beer could have made that big of an impact, so sure in fact that I give it 5 full stars!

North-siders rejoice, we have our own answer to Home Slice right here in our own 'hood. Okay, Home Slice is a little better, but not by much. Here's my assessment: Pros: Good thin crust, almost blackened on the bottom Not too much cheese, Salvation knows that less is more Not too much sauce, see above, mostly just crushed tomatoes (good) Really light, you and a friend can put away a Large, no problem Never too busy, not a scene Cons: Slow service Hippy staff; I'm surprised the place hasn't burnt down yet Canned ingredients, such as mushrooms and olives Over-reliance on dry herbs over fresh No fresh mozzarella If you live near UT or just on the North end of town and you know what good pizza tastes like, Salvation will live up to its namesake.

My husband's favorite pizza in town... I like it too, but I can't commit to a favorite pizza joint- I love it all. Cute place to dine-in... the old Starlite house. I really like the salad dressing too- tangy and tasty. My only complaint is that it's often cold by the time it makes it home... and we only live a few blocks away. Hm.

There was still a good amount of people around 8:30pm on a Friday night. While there were several open tables, there was still a wait. WTF??? Clear the freakin tables and seat your customers! Got a #5 white pie w/ chicken, fresh garlic, proscuitto, dried sage for $19. They make Neapolitan style pizza, so super thin crust. The crusts were all burnt and one might say that that's bound to happen given the thinness of the crust. However, I've have plenty of Neapolitan style pizzas that have been perfectly baked with no burnt crusts. This indicates that Salvation has inexperienced and/or incompetent pizza makers. Aside from the crust, the toppings were fine. Not spectacular but not terrible either. The pizza is big in that it covers a lot of surface area, but since it's so thin, it's not actually that much pizza. One person can easily put away 4 slices.

this is some good thin and crispy pizza! all kind of topping choices and specialties offered. they also have live oak beer on tap and it's super cheap during happy hour. the pizza is a little pricey but, hell, it's fresh and hand made. it's not freaking dominos!

I hate to give a place so few stars, but this place just tastes like cardboard to me. I am a thin crust pizza gal and like fresh/high quality toppings and generous cheese. Salvation just doesn't do it for me. Have to say the atmosphere is fantastic and staff very friendly. But it doesn't have the soul of East Side Pies. ESP has tainted my pizza palate and nothing else compares. So sorry!!!

Yummy, thin crust, ask for a little extra sauce. Place was warm & cozy & they even have an organic Melot on the menu. Service was great. Try the asparus, bacon & jalapeno, I think it's the #2. We will go back next time we are craving pizza. Perfect Pie!

The town that I come from in Suburbia (a place up north smack in the middle or two very large urbias) has a really good pizza place called Harry's Pizza. The owner's daughter moved to Austin a few years ago and opened Salvation Pizza. Suffice it to say, it is nice to have some hometown pizza far away from home. Here you get great thin crust pizza (thick crust should never be made and sold outside of Chicagoland) with just the right amount of sauce to toppings. There are other pizza places in town that are more famous that have nothing on this pizza joint. Also - they make pizza not pasta. This is a pizza joint and not an Italian restaurant, They Live Oak on tap with bottled beers and an assortment of wine and a large covered porch to drink it on. The inside is an old house that is a comfortable setting on a colder day. Parking can be a pain, but can usually be found within a block on the street. So go ahead and have a slice...or two...

note: taking this down to 4 stars. even though the pizza is the best ever, the slow and inattentive service is really a drag. i don't need to see you every 5 minutes, but a server should be at my table more than twice. this pizza is so good, it makes me ache for it inside when i go too long without eating it. i once watched an episode of good eats where alton brown talked about how the key to good pizza is the crust. i believe that, and salvation does it with gusto. thin, with the right ratio of crunchiness to chewiness. excellent flavor - i believe the crust should be delicious even without sauce or cheese or other goodies on top. the goodies that salvation offers, though, serve to enhance and delight. prosciutto, eggplant, feta....delightful. the front porch on a breezy evening with a pitcher of beer....who gives a rip if it takes 20 minutes for the pie to get to your table? it's always worth the wait.

Right up there with Rounder's. Tasty thin-crust pizza, and we got served (eventually) by some painfully hep cats who're way too cool to hurry up and serve you. Yeah I said I like that.

We enjoyed a #2 (red sauce with asparagus, jalepeno and bacon) along with a pitcher of Live Oak Big Bark and left satisfied. We didn't have any of the service issues mentioned in some of the other reviews, but the place was pretty slow. A touch on the pricey side for pizza and beer, but both were very good. I'll definitely be back to try one of the white pies.

We have only been here once, but will definitely be here again. Its situated in a cute little house, with a deck out front, too cold to use right now in this cold evening weather, but I'd keep it in mind for spring and summer post-bike ride beer and pizza. Good waitstaff, we got seated right away, and were served with no problems or attitude. Excellent pizza, better than Home Slice(whose pizza has been very spotty as of late) Hopefully it is consistently this good.

The pizza crust had a great crispy texture, the eggplant was flavorful but the sauce and cheese were slightly deficient in taste. I wanted to love the whole pizza, but I just want more crust.

I love this place! If you like thin-crust with a cracker crust edge this place is great. The atmosphere is relaxed. The space is cute. The staff is attentive. This place is also dog friendly, making it an A+ spot to eat.

5 stars for the pizza, which is the best I've ever had anywhere. One star for the service, which is the worst I've had anywhere. We've been there three times and every time we got extremely poor service. This speaks to how truly delicious the pizza is, because we both detest poor service. I guess they're trying to make it a take-out only place?? Because that's what we'll do from now on.

I really like the vibe of this place. It's a little less crazy than Home Slice. The pizza is very good and the beer is nice and cold. I wish they had better wine though. Their most expensive bottle is not great and it really benefits from drinking with food. Occasionally their wait staff seems disinterested but that's not enough to keep me from coming back.

This is my favorite pizza in austin, but not necessarily my favorite pizza place. The pies are wonderful. Great thin crust. I have tried a few, but love the #1 White pie. Other places with pizza like Asti and Homeslice are fun to go to and have very good pizza, but when I need a killer slice, and don't care about decor or wait time, this place delivers.

the pizza was good. the atmostphere was really nice. The staff was friendly BUT the service is horrible. only go here if you plan on being there for a long time. I didn't mind waiting for the pizza, thats understandable, but they forgot to bring out my friends pizza and didn't come back to check on us for about 15 minutes. It took 10 minutes to get a straw.... lemons for the water never came after they were requested.... Like I said, everyone was friendly and the pizza was good. Their crust and sauce is vegan which is nice. But don't bother if you are particulkar about service or in a hurry.

Best pizza in Austin if you're down with thin crust. Only beef I have with the place is one of the times I got pepperoni on my pie, they sliced the pepporonis into slivers and that was not kosher. Besides that, nothing but smiles from this place.

Normally pizza is great but we got one Thursday night that was burnt to a crisp on the bottom. With all the pizza places in town and the price of the pie, I'm not convinced we would order from Salvation again. We'd like to but only if they make it right.

Great pizza! At first, I thought that the prices were a bit high with small pizzas from $11.50 to $12.50 each. However, when the pizzas came, they were quite large for what I'd consider a small and the ingredients were good quality and plentiful. I had 4 people with me and each of us ordered a different separate pizza. We traded slices so that we were able to try each of the 5 pizzas. I think that we agreed that the white chicken pizza was the best, but none of us were unhappy with our choices. Don't miss this place!

I've been missing uber-thin crust since I moved from NY. This is the closest I've found to the real deal. Great neighborhood vibe and tasty toppings. I recommend the eggplant pie.

Easily, in my opinion, one of the best pizzas in Austin. They also have decent beer on tap. Nice central location, though on-street parking can be a hassle sometimes. I wish they could work out a deal with their neighbor enabling you to park at the adjacent office at night. I'd give it a 5 if they were 100% consistent, had better salads, and improved their waitstaff service.

Salvation Pizza has become my favorite pizza place in all of Austin! Their #2 (asparagus, bacon, jalapeno) is absolutely heaven on earth... who would've thunk to put those ingredients together at all, much less on a pizza? I've been there many times and can barely tear myself away from this one to try another. However, the #6 would be a close 2nd favorite if I could. The service is generally pleasant, but extremely slow, so don't go there if you are in a hurry. Also, the inside has pretty limited seating. But, if you want to just go spend an evening with a few friends eating pizza and drinking beer (or wine... they usually give a pretty good pour on your glass of wine), then this is the place to go! Warning: They ONLY serve pizza, so don't go there thinking that you might get some calzone or pasta or anything like that.

I had a great first experience at this place and can't wait to go back. They have a nice patio that was perfect for a spring night, and a limited but good selection of wine and beer. Luckily one does not have to be picky when selecting a wine to go with pizza (or ever, if you are me), so I was happy with the basics. The pizza was great though we think one topping was missing from half of one. They were thin crust and crispy but not overdone. 2 smalls was enough for our table of 4. I recommend the #1 also, and building your own with jalapenos. Here they mince them instead of putting on whole slices, which perfectly distributes the spiciness. The place was very quiet and laid back, but I could see it being bad on a busy day. Also, they don't have ranch so Texans beware! Also, some of the construction is new and the women's bathroom smells like camping. Like a pine cabin or something? It's strangely nostalgic. I completely recommend stopping by for a pie or picking one up to go as several people did while I was there.

Get over yourselves. Rate the food, not the service. I don't want to end up going somewhere because of yelp that has mediocre food and great service. I could not care less if the waitress was smiling as long as I'm smiling during and after the meal (which I did at Salvation).

If you like thin-crusted pizza, this is the place to go. My husband and I especially like the white sauce pizza (either with chicken or clams). I would love to see this restaurant expands its draft beer selection. We think beer brewed by Live Oak is very reasonable, but a couple more choices (such as Deschutes or Victory) would be even better. If you go on a weekend and want to sit outside (during summer), go there before 6:30pm. Friendly staff who are friendly with kids and their parents and friends.

It's like a slice of home! This is some REAL east coast pizza and there's not a place like it in town. When I stumbled upon this lil gem I swore off all other pizza joints in town.

Three words: Asparagus, bacon, jalapeno. What else do you need? Well okay: I have gone here for several years. It can be hit or miss but usually these guys make a good pie and it is a welcome antidote for the thick crusted bready pizzas that plagued austin for years. The lunch special is a great deal, staff are pleasant.

I don't even like thin crust, and I love this place. If you *do* like thin crust, prepare to have every other place in the universe ruined for you. Additional points for nice atmosphere....at least in the evenings when the lights are low and you squint a bit. It's no David's original-brick oven in there, and it's a more mellow first-date to be sure, but I find its homey nature quite pleasant.

The night began a little shaky- my boyfriend and I arrived at Salvation on a Friday night, walked up the steps, and were basically ignored for awhile. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but generally someone greets you when you walk into a restaurant and tells you where to sit. After standing around awkwardly for about 2 minutes, I flagged down a waiter and inquired, "We would like to eat here. What do we have to do?" He told us we could wait for a table inside, or go around back. We were pretty hungry, so we walked around through playground-like pebbles to the back of the restaurant-nee-old house, where we were greeted by wooden picnic tables and a very dim streetlight. It felt really weird, like a hark back to segregation days. (My boyfriend apparently felt it too, and made a joke: "Irish and Jews go to the back!") I'm being a touch dramatic, but it was unpleasant enough for us to go back inside and wait for a table. By now you're probably thinking, so why 4 stars? Because: the pizza was THAT GOOD. Oh damn it was good. My bf and I split a large pie, half #1 white with fresh tomatoes, garlic, and basil, and half chicken and sage. Not too greasy, with just enough salt, and a perfect thin crust. Best white pizza I've ever had. Really. Worth segregation. Worth $25. Worth just about anything. And we had leftovers for later. Go here, but protest sitting in the back. ;-)

I'm a new fan of their #7. It is super thin, well done, not greasy and they cut it into tiny little slices so you can psych yourself into eating less pizza (but who would want to do that?). If they're busy, finding street parking can be a little tricky, so we usually get it to-go. Sometimes the wait staff seems a bit rushed, and less friendly than I'd like - but I'm hoping that changes cause I really like the pie. Oh, the #7: Fresh basil, feta, artichoke hearts, black olive, red onion

I used to make a lot of noise about how much I liked this place, but the last few pies I've had have left a lot to be desired. The pizza used to display that sought after combination of crispness, tenderness and chew - the crust would support the pizza (not flop over) without being too crackery or boring. Now it's a pure case of the flops. Womp.

I've never had asparagus on a pizza before. It's delicious! Although I've got to say, it seemed a little overpriced. I get peeved when I have to pay the same for a veggie pizza as a meat pizza. The salad was pretty decent and fresh, too. It was also pretty damn crowded and there was a cold breeze headed straight from the front door to our pizza. Uncool. But I'll be back. It was tasty, there was beer, it's all good.

Wow, Had no idea such a place existed! I've been too foodhead a couple years back; but maybe i missed this place. I will def. be coming back here to try all their pizza combination. this past weekend came here and had the #5 pizza; with red sauce. Great flavor and a good pizza! The pizza is huge too; easily could be split by 4 people. The garlic bread w/ their marinara sauce was off the chain! Once i tried the red sauce i knew their pizza would rock as well. Very chill laid back atmosphere; in a typical austin type house. when the weather warms up i'm sure thier outside patio is a great place to just chill! I'm coming back for sure!! maybe weekly

Salvation has an awesome lunch special - 2 slices and a salad for ~$7. That is hard to beat. I work right down the street from Salvation, so I could eat lunch there all the time, but I wont. Don't get me wrong, I love their pizza, the problem is if you have a short lunch break like me, or just don't like sitting in restaurants alone then this isn't the place for you. When you order your lunch to go they wrap your 2 slices up in wax paper and you end up having to scrape your lunch off of the paper. Not good - not even good enough for my dogs. If they would at least put the topping side facing each other it wouldn't be so bad (you could eat it like a sandwich) , but that is too much to ask - they prefer to ruin both of your slices. They fooled me like this twice, but it wont happen again. Now if I want my own pizza for lunch I order from Austins pizza. It isn't quite as good, but at least they put your pizza in a box. and they have a good lunch special as well (personal 2 topping pizza + a drink for ~$7). Sometimes we get a couple people together and we split a large pizza or 2 and it is awesome (they will actually spare you a pizza box when you order a whole pie @ ~$20). I would have given them 1 star due to their service, but their pizza is so good (if you order a whole pie) that I couldn't do that.

The first thing I would like to note. The pizza is way better than these pictures would suggest. I am unsure why everything in the pictures looks greasy and generic, but I assure you that is not the case. The garlic bread was amazing and the flavors on the pizza are very strong yet contrasting. A very nice outside experience, best enjoyed during a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Phenomenal pizza. Easily better than Homeslice, Southside Flying Pizza, and East Side Pies. The pizza is new haven style, with the sauce resembling a tomato puree more so than a true sauce. The puree is delicious, with a lot more tomato flavor than what you normally find on a pizza. Toppings are delicious and well proportioned. The crust is also fantastic, with just enough doughy chew to it. The pizzas are never soggy on bottom and the crust always maintains until the last slice. Happy hour features 2.50$ drafts, including Live Oak Hefeweizen. My preferred pizza place anywhere west of the Appalachians.

I'm not sure why I can't give this place 5 stars, except that 5 would be restaurant perfection and I haven't had Salvation enough times to go there. I think the pie is really, really good. Like REALLY good. I've only had takeout and of course when you get home it's a little flabby, but we've pretty much finished everything in the box both times. It's a VERY good pizza, there's no doubt. My wife and I differ on opinions versus Home Slice or East Side, but it's right up there and I'm so glad to have a North Campus option of that quality. Salads were very good too last time. I can't think of anything negative to say really...headed there tonight for eat-in and looking forward to it.

The pizza here is really quite good- in my opinion better than Home Slice. Thin, crispy crust and generous toppings. We got the #6 which has black olives, mushrooms?, jalapenos, and sausage. Also, as others have mentioned they have pitchers of Lone Star for $9.50 and decent happy hour drink deals. The outside patio is a nice spot to enjoy a warm Austin evening.

Salvation Pizza has really helped me ease into Austin. I've lived in NYC and San Francisco -- both with great pies, but this place holds up to the best. I've had a pizza from Salvation every week since we moved to Texas a month ago and I would go more often for the amazing sauce, fresh cheese, and heavenly seasoning (pun intended)... if my wife would let me. However, the best part is by far the crunchy but chewy crust that I put up there with Gialina and A16 in San Francisco. I'm a fan of their traditional pizza more so than the white style and the garlic bread is to die for. Order more than you think you will eat because it goes fast. My wife keeps up with me slice-for-slice. I'll see you again soon... Salvation Pizza.

Ok, so the pizza here is pretty damn good. And I was able to get one of my favorite toppings, pepperoni with ricotta. Really nice thin, crispy crust. But the interior kind of just makes me sad. What have they done to the old Starlite location? The beautiful old house, looks more like a frat house now. Everything was really sticky, and it was freaking hot in there! The cool patio furniture has been replaced with generic picnic tables. Oh, and the red wine tasted like burning! Thumbs up to the food, thumbs down to the wine & atmosphere. Next time, I'm getting my Salvation to go!

Salvation Pizza is amazing. I crave Salvation Pizza. I want Salvation Pizza. That being said, can they please get a little better service? Here's a scenario... Me: "Could I please get some ranch?" Waitress: "We don't have ranch" (waitress takes a few steps away, and turns to speak over her shoulder) "We like to let our pizza speak for itself. Me: "Thanks for the comment, next time a simple no will suffice." Good luck on your tip. How about next time you do let the pizza speak for itself.

I felt like slapping my momma this pizza was so good. She's not even italian, and I knew somehow that I was in the presence of great pizza. I felt cheated by other pizza experiences. There is only one downside to having really good pizza, and that is you will judge all others by that standard. The selections were interesting and different and gastronomically speaking, worked well together. If time and budget had permitted, I would have tried everything on the menu. They have plenty of toppings for a great build-your-own, and some not so typical house pies that will raise an eyebrow and make you salivate. They even have those margherita pizzas that everyone likes. I was only able to try two pizzas, the jalapeno asparagus and bacon which raised suspicion that was quickly quelled, and the traditional pepperoni with onions. Both were thin, crispy and didn't have to try hard to please a pizza lover. I like when waiters aren't intrusive and know how to keep a distance. It seems that our waiter had eaten his humble pie for the day. The surroundings were fun and funky and definitely Austin. I give this pizza joint 5 stars, not because it's new and hip, but because its worked very hard at serving a good pie with good locally brewed beer.

One of the top 3 pizza places in Austin. The crust is perfect, the toppings interesting, and the ambiance exactly as it should be. The staff here oozes friendliness and has been more than happy to allow me to bring in a bottle of a nice high-acidity 2005 Red Burgundy to go with such a delightful pizza. They also have some tasty local beer on tap if you're feeling like a brew with your food. I'm really not sure what would make this place much better, it's basically everything I want in a pizza place. I'll be back many times for sure.

This place has HORRIBLE customer service. I've never been treated so poorly by a waitress in my life. I went into Salvation Pizza with my boyfriend intending on grabbing a quick lunch. When I tried to order their "daily lunch special" they have listed on their website, the waitress rudely informed me that it was not available on Saturdays. Even though it says nothing of the sort on their website, I didn't argue and just attempted to order two slices for whatever their "Saturday price" was. However, she refused to sell me a slice and told me I had to order an entire pizza. Seriously? Still, I didn't argue and just asked for a few minutes to look over their menu. While I was reading it over I didn't see pepperoni pizza listed anywhere and went up to the counter to ask if they served it. This was her response: she grabbed a menu, threw it down on the counter and slid it over to me, jabbing her finger to where it says "pepperoni" listed under the "a la carte" items. When I say she threw it down, I am not exaggerating. It was loud enough that the family sitting across from us actually looked over. She never verbally responded to my question. I was pretty embarrassed by this point, so I just paid for my drinks and quickly left. I'm not sure why she was so horribly mean and condescending, but I can trust that I'm probably not the only customer lost because of it. I would never, ever come back here.

eggplant. clams. asparagus. no this isn't your local farmers market circular, it's the menu for their specialty pizzas. fru fru pizza. law doesn't do the fru. or so i thought. we ordered the following. #1White pie, fresh basil, fresh garlic, sliced roma tomato #4 Hamburger, mushroom, onion, jalapeno #5 White pie, chicken, fresh garlic, proscuitto, dried sage #9 White clam: whole baby clams, bacon, lemon and a pepperoni the large pies are 12 slices each. we didn't order smalls so i can't tell you how many slices those have. the size of the slices aren't uniform which actually works out b/c sometimes people want smaller slices. it's a napolitano style pizza so the crust is cracker thin. the outside of the pizza actually tastes like a cracker when there are no toppings left. it's not bad. the toppings itself are arranged in a way where the "uniqueness" of the toppings - eggplant, or clams, for example- don't overwhelm the traditional taste of the pizza and i actually enjoyed it a lot (much to my dismay because i like to hate on anything that's contrived). we liked the pizzas so much we ordered a second #5. the clam pizza surprised me the most- you couldn't taste the clams save for a hint of salty seawater, and it was offset perfectly with lemon. a great concept perfectly executed. i do have a couple gripes- i like cheesy pizzas so i wish they had a gooey cheese option. also we had to sit outside b/c the inside STANK. my friend thinks the grease trap is backed up causing the sewage-like smell, and i would have to agree b/c the bathrooms were working just fine. but man, everytime the door opened you would catch the most noxious odor coming from inside. totally unappetizing. one last thing, our waitress seemed really annoyed with us because we didn't have our act together initially and didn't know what we wanted to order, sorry!

Pizza was very good. It is very thin and crisp. Sauce and toppings all good. Ordered bruschetta as an appetizer. We didn't care for it. It had a lot of raw onions in it, and that's not our preference. Service was good. There were about 8-10 tables inside and 5-6 outside. We sat inside, and it was warm. We plan to go back, but we'll wait until the weather is cooler.

The husband and I tried this place on a Saturday morning, around 11. We sat outside, one of only two tables. Our waiter was attentive and quickly acknowledged us. Our beer was brought out just about immediately with our water soon after. My salad was delicious, and the pizza was *excellent*. We were both quite impressed. And I'm a thicker-crust kinda gal. The music playing (20's and 30's, I think) was a perfect addition to the meal. It was just a lovely dining experience. The retro-stenciled tables aren't too shabby, either. :)

Better than Rounders and dare I say much better than (gasp!) HomeSlice which warms my heart like a thousand suns. We embarked yesterday, about 7:00 before the crazy dinner rush. We were seated in the back room, which was quiet (no screaming babies!) but a little cold and dark. They will bring candles if you need them. I had a fabulous wine and a yummy house salad with sundried tomato dressing (highly recommended). Appetizers and desert (I think) were absent from the menu. But you really don't need anything else but the pizza. Oh the pizza! Ours came out piping hot, deliciously crispy, with the perfect cheese-topping-tomato sauce ratio. Service was a smidge slow, but our waitress was really nice and got our food out quickly after my proclaimation that I was starving. Highly recommended. You will not be disappointed.!

It always seems pointless being the 54th reviewer of something but oh well. I hate to say it, but I am not fond of this pizza. Not to get in to a huge philosophical pizza debate, but thin crust pizza is just wrong. Thin crust pizza with little or no sauce is even more wrong. Maybe it's more 'refined' than a big sloppy piece of pizza with lots of crust, sauce, cheese, and grease but to me that is the very essence of pizza. If I wanted refined I'd eat some focaccai bread or something. I'd rather have totinos I think than a 'fancy' slice of pizza. Just for reference my favorite pizza places in Austin are Home Slice, East Side Pies, Reales, and Dobie Mall pizza. Salvation Pizza was not THAT bad, but I had to go from 3 stars to 2 because the service, as mentioned, was not great. Luckily I had my phone and played brick blaster for like 45 minutes waiting for some pizza while I watched 2 employees try and handle 8 or 9 tables plus call-in orders. It does have nice atmosphere. I'd get a beer hear, and maybe try one of the other pizzas some day... maybe.

Delicious! So they have pizza in two sizes, small and large. We had a small (8 slices) pepperoni and mushroom that was perfect for two people. So many times pizza is greasy either from the cheese and or the meat but this one was not greasy at all. The crust is thin and was the best crust on any pizza that I have ever had! We had a mixed green salad while waiting on our pizza to arrive and Teo's gelato for dessert. Yowza did it all hit the spot! Only drawback was parking...No parking lot so you've gotta park on the street or ride your bike.

Good pizza - very thin crust, almost like a cracker. We got one with Canadian bacon (aka upscale ham), one eggplant/spinach/broccoli, and one #5 with chicken, garlic & proscuitto. All were good, but all were uniformly a bit saltier than I would have liked. You may want to avoid this place if you are watching that sodium intake. Service is slow. I called in a take-out order at around 5pm on a weekday and was told it would be 30 minutes, but it was more like 45, even though there were practically no people in the place. When you have hungry kids at home, that extra 15 minutes is painful. At least they offered me a glass of water while I waited. I also wished that they had whole wheat crust, but they didn't. I know, I know, whole wheat crust is like ordering a double bacon cheeseburger and extra large fries and then hoping that the diet Coke will negate all the badness. But I still want to at least try to be marginally healthy.

Came here the other night with a groupon group... which wasn't ideal since I am recently gluten-free. Yay - love to watch everyone else eat pizza! I got their one salad and asked the waitress what toppings I could add. I was willing to pay whatever and take whatever I could get. She kindly offered up prosciutto and artichoke hearts -- what a doll! That, combined with their lovely sun-dried whatever vinaigrette and it was an impromptu masterpiece! Thanks Salvation for turning my gluten frown upside down!!

Ok so lets start with the good. I really liked their bruschetta. Very good sized portion and great balsamic flavor. I would definitely order again. They also have a decent selection of beers, not just your typical light choices. I also enjoyed the toppings on our #1 pie, they were very tasty and ample. Ok now for where they lost 3 stars. Our pizza was partially burnt on the edges and bottom and the bottom had lots of burnt bits from earlier cooked pizzas. We did not send it back as half was edible and quick service is not their strong point. Plus we didn't want to be "those people". I saw and agree with other reviews about them not refilling your water which started off with hardly enough ice in the first place. Not too great when their a/c system is so lacking. I also agree with other yelpers about the bathroom sewer type stink. Thankfully I had a groupon so I only paid half price. I accidentally bought 2 of the groupons so one more try they will get. I hope my next pie looks like the pictures others have posted. I think I will order it to go next time also.

Whenever we try a new restaurant, hubby and I have this unspoken competition to see who can order the best dish. And, thanks to Salvation Pizza, I won this round! Prior to partaking of this precariously thin pie I had imbibed several Live Oak Heffes, so forgive me for flubbing the details. Alls I remember is that hubby had the #5 off the top ten list and I ordered the #7. I do remember that his was a white pie with chicken, mine was red sauce with artichoke hearts. And mine was totally better than his! Don't get me wrong though, they were both delicious. We're fans of thin crust, and this place by far has the thinnest crust in the land. My leftover piece that I had for breakfast actually kind of dissolved in the fridge that night and I ended up having to eat it with a fork. It was still delicious. Things I love about this place: Friendly wait staff - we arrived late in the evening but our waitress was cheerful and attentive the entire time. Laid-back atmosphere - this place is very airy and casual. Split orders - I really love that they will do two halves of different flavor on one pie. For those of us who need variety/find it difficult to commit, this really helps. Pitchers of Live Oak - need I say more? If you live close by, I would definitely recommend checking out Salvation. If you don't live close but you love thin crust, it's worth the trip!

My fave pizza place in Austin was Home Slice, but four trips to Salvation has changed my mind. The pluses: Nice selection of beer and wine, hole in the wall, former residence converted to a business, with Austin flavor, great wait staff, and the best thing is consistently good pies. They're tasty with plenty of fresh ingredients at a good price. The minuses: you have to park on the street. Not much of a minus for me.

Glorious heaven can be found but only by those whose arms are raised in praise to the almighty... Salvation Pizza. Praise cheeses.

My wife makes her own thin crust New York style pizza and Salvation Pizza is the only pizza I've had in this town that I would consider worth taking the time to sit down and make a meal of it (vs "to go"). Crust is thin and you may find this hard to believe but it's crusty as well... If I wanted to eat dough I would eat a cookie. Ingredients are quality and the pizza is prepared by someone that gives a damn. Pizza is cooked properly too. Staff is sparse but friendly (who needs a team of servers for pizza?), AND they have local beer on tap. 'nuff said. This place rocks. If I lived anywhere near 34th St. I would be a regular. If you live close check it out.

I had heard good things about Salvation (and read many positive reviews here on yelp) so I went in expecting an experience comparable to one of Austin's other top pizza places. I was more than a little disappointed. -Slow service: On an uncrowded Thursday night, it took ~50 minutes to make us a single small pizza from their top 10 list. We also both sat with empty water glasses for long periods of time more than once. -No (or poor) AC, when it's 100+ outside I expect sitting inside to eat to be less uncomfortable, not MORE uncomfortable. This was compounded by the lack of water. -The pizza itself was unremarkable, decently fresh ingredients and a slightly too crispy thin crust, but if it had been any less warm when we received it I may have asked to have it heated up, something I've never considered at a pizza place before. A surprise to say the least, I may assume my trip was a fluke and give it another shot.

I live around the corner from this place, and am happy to have found a local pizza joint that has great thin crust pizza. The slices are large and foldable and the toppings are fresh. The crust on the ends are a little tough, but the crust on the bottom of the pie holds up well to the toppings. There's a great ratio of sauce and cheese on the pie in relation to the crust and toppings. The price reasonable for the fresh ingredients and the large size of the pie. This place took 30 minutes to cook one simple pie, so I would call in ahead and swing by to pick it up and bring home to enjoy.

A friend highly recommended this place. Loves it! I was impressed w/ the menu selection, pricing, and HH pricing on beers. Ambiance was laid back nieghboorhood hole in the wall like...Big plus. We ordered a couple pints, pizzas, and house salad w/ this amazing house sundried tomato dressing. YUM! Loved the cheese blend they are using on the pizzas, ingredients were fresh and plenty. We had a white and a red pie. White combination of ingredients was ridiculously good. Only problem...they slightly burnt the edges on BOTH pizzas on one sides. BIG TABOO int he pizza biz. It was a little busy but kitchen should have been able to handle the items coming in and not get distracted long enough to not watch pies in the oven. You just can't EVER even slightly burn edges or bottoms on pizzas...NEVER! WIll I go again? Maybe I can talk my wife in 1 more time. She was not impressed. However I'm the NewYorker who appreciates a good pizza and I see something in these pies that makes me want to try it again. No burn and they got a repeat customer in the future from me.

Even if I couldn't walk there, I'd crawl! Best pizza in town, crust down. Love the white pizza and the lunch special is a bargain. I do wish they delivered though for when I'm at friends' places. I'd rather not always be the one to pick up!

I didn't find salvation at Salvation Pizza, but I feel certain I'll be back. Here's what's odd: I can definitely see how people would give this place five stars (the pizza was -- in a word -- outstanding), but the rest of the place seemed to be kind of in a falling apart shambles, a sad state to witness in the former Starlite confines. Decent beer selection (I'd not imagined the possibility of diving into a thin crust masterpiece coupled with a Dunkelweiss or a Carlsberg, but I'll take it, thanks), and it's been pretty well documented here and elsewhere that the pizza is the reason that any of us put up with some of the other things that may be a little off here. The staff was friendly if semi-apathetic, and they were easy when it came to divvying up our pie 1/2 and 1/2. So that was cool. And it really was some of the better pizza I've had in a while. It'd just be okay if someone swept up once in a blue moon.

I was hesitant to give Salvation a 5 because I walked in and the place literally smelled like poop. No kidding... fecal odors were abundant in the air. Oh well... I guess I should just a book by its contents, not its stench. Salvation may actually be my favorite pizza in Austin. I was a bit hesitant to to think this at first because it is so close to UT, and by default, eateries near campus should be horrendous. There is no real diversity in pizza in Austin, so being a "thin-crust Austin-y" joint is pretty ordinary... it surely is hard to stand out. To give them a shot at being my favorite, I ordered a large with half eggplant, tomato, artichoke and half basil, garlic, and tomato. The extremely large box barely housed the leftovers in my fridge. The toppings were very rustic as whole artichoke quarters, chunky tomatoes, whole tomato slices, basil leaves, eggplant cubes sat atop the thin crust. The crust is the right thinness for folding and eating purposes, and it has just the right amount of crispness. The pizza has a great texture overall, without neither too much greasiness nor dryness. It may not be too filling at $20 per pizza with a thin crust, but you can always go to something more chain-like for real bang for your buck. I think you can gorge yourself on $10 for pasta at Pizza Hut on Tuesdays or 7 topping Papa J's on Sundays, Mondays, or sometimes Thursdays. I, for one, will return for Salvation whenever I am craving foldable pies AND that great...inviting smell.

I was on the verge of unsubscribing from Groupon. Day after day of "50% Off Spider Vein Treatment," "77% Off Tanning" (really? in the summer in Texas people go to tanning salons?) and "Austin Wig Party" ($200 to try on wigs for three hours, what the $%(@?) had me down. Then the Salvation Pizza Groupon arrived in my inbox like a breath of fresh air. I've enjoyed Salvation for a while, but it's a little pricey, so I don't go very often. This was the perfect excuse. It had always been near-deserted when I went in the past, but apparently the Groupon worked out for them, because there was a 25-minute wait when we arrived. The pizza is crispy and not too greasy--nowhere else can I down four slices without feeling like a slob. My favorite is the #1 white pizza with basil. My only complaint is that our $15 pitcher of Live Oak wasn't cold. On a 90 degree Austin summer day, that is just not OK. Also, some fans on the deck would be nice.

i love the deck... i love being able to bring my doggies... i love the people... and i swear the pizza is really really special... there is something about how they make it that excites me!!

The pies here have a very nice crispy crust, and they provide a nice *pop* of flavor in the mouth. It's a small place, but it does not feel cramped on the inside at all. Service is always really friendly. The #5 white pie with chicken and proscuitto is a favorite with my friends. I like the #3 with artichokes and eggplant, it has some serious flavor and the softness of the eggplant pairs nicely with the thin crust.

I had a fantastic pizza at Salvation Pizza yesterday. This place is i a little the beaten path but it really is another Austin Find. The patio is great and the staff has always been very attentive. I short, I liked it and my family did too.

I really enjoyed the pizza the first time I ate here a few weeks ago. I called today at 11:15am to place an order for pick up and was told "well we don't open till 11:30." I am a disappointed.

Surprisingly good pizza! Some of the best thin crust in town, to be sure. Homeslice keeps my vote for their sublime crust, but Salvation's sauce and toppings are arguably better quality, and offered more generously (a mixed blessing, perhaps, as part of Homeslice's magic lies in restraint, not piling up too much sauce and ingredients on that oh-so-delicate crust). The nod certainly goes to Salvation for being able to get a table right away - though the street parking isn't exactly ample. Our server was friendly and pleasant, though probably not the most organized chap to work a pizza joint - I can imagine some of the complaints about service here might have merit but a bit of slacker inefficiency was no bother to us on this leisurely Saturday lunch. Nice selection of beer and wine. There's no shortage of pizza joints in this town, and this one is truly a cut above - do yourself a favor and check it out!

Wow, if your looking for a crisp crust that doesn't get soggy as the sliced pizza waits for you to eat it this is the place. I love Napoletana style pizza and I'd say this is the best I have had in Austin to date. I was going to try East Side pies but since I needed a warm place to sit and a cold beer to drink I found this place on Yelp instead. As usual the Yelp community was spot on.

Of all the pizza places in Austin, I think this place is the best. Great atmosphere and porch, and the waiters and bartenders are awesome. I always get a mixed green salad (amazing dressings!!) the #1 on the Top 10 menu. It sounds like nothing fancy- white pizza with garlic, basil and cheese- but the combo really works. Only knock I have on this place is sometimes there is a funky smell. Could be my oversensitive nose, but there ya have it.

Salvation Pizza really made my day! A couple days ago marked my two year anniversary here in Austin. So in order to celebrate correctly, I came by Salvation Pizza to get a pizza, since it came so highly recommended by fellow thin-crust Yelp fans. And I am so glad I did! Everyone has their own idea on what is the correct way to make a pizza. It's all about where you grew up, right? So, Salvation Pizza does pizza my way: super thin crust. That is the correct way for a Connecticut girl to eat her pizza! So I called in a take-out order, which was ready, and piping hot when I got there. Parking there is a pain-in-the-butt. It's street parking...and I found that I had to circle around a couple of times waiting for a spot to open. Not so convenient, but on the other hand, it didn't look like there was any space to put in a small lot either. My other little complaint.....it was rather lacking in cheese. The sauce and crust were great. And the sausage was really flavorful. But where was the cheese? You could hardly taste it.... Despite the parking and the skimpy cheese, I know for a fact that I will be back for more pizza!

Honestly, I'm torn. I ordered pepperoni pizza like always when I try a new joint. Also got the garlic bread to start. I LOVE thin crust pizza and their crust was really great. But the pizza just didnt have much flavor. I really really wanted to love this place and I'm sure I will go back, but it just wasn't a love connection. The garlic bread was pretty awesome, though. Came with a bowl of marinara sauce.

Addicted! I have to eat here at least once a week, or the world ain't right. 2 slices, a salad, and a drink for lunch for $5.99. Their crust is the thinnest, and I love the tomato sauce. Tomato sauce on pizza should be quality tomatoes and garlic, maybe some herbs. Just enough to accentuate fine toppings and great crust. At this moment it has been over a week since I've had a slice, and I'm teetering on the brink. Get away from me.

Beat the crowds! Go here! great pizza(thin crust), great prices, great desserts! cute environment, laid-back. Only way i could make it any better, would be have more parking. (But hey, it is south Austin)

  • Susan L.

I like Salvation. I just really wish there was lots more parking. And I wish that they would put way more ricotta on my pizza. This is not my favorite pizza place, but it was my favorite in my neighborhood. So, can someone please fix the parking thing soon? P.S. They don't deliver.

We got a pizza from here because of the reviews and the location and it did not disappoint. We asked for the crust extra crispy and the pizza was to die for! If you don't like thin crust then this may not be the place for you but I was thrilled with this pizza. Crispy, hot, perfect. Would definitely go here again. I can't speak much to the service because we got the pizza to-go but based on how good it was I'm sure I'll go there at some point and eat in.

I came to Salvation Pizza on a job assignment to take photographs and I fell in love with the place once I walked in. The interior and exterior design is absolutely cute. Salvation Pizza is located in a quiet neighborhood in a small house. Inside the decor is composed of black tables with red chairs, it is small and laid back and very clean. They have a bar at the front of the house that serves beer and wine. My boyfriend and I decided to try their pizza after taking pictures for the paper and I don't regret eating their pizza. It was delicious and better than Austin's renowned Home Slice Pizza. Their pizza is thin crust and we built our own pizza. We got a large pizza ($19) with four toppings. On one half of the pizza, it was just pineapple and the other half, we got fresh garlic, roasted sun dried tomatoes, and onions. It was a very large pizza, and we had enough to eat the next day for lunch. They have just the right amount of sauce on it and their garlic was FRESH, the garlic at Home Slice, I could hardly taste! I loved it and I think we will definitely be returning to Salvation Pizza.

One of the best pizza's in Austin. Super thin crunchy crust and the quality ingredients are wonderful. A bit pricey if you start going ingredient crazy but I can't help it!!! I go here once a week to get my pizza fix. I was a Rounder's girl but now I must say... Salvations is my first pick. I love a feta, capers, basil, garlic and mushroom pie! They could use a better beer selection, not a big fan of Live Oak beers-they all taste alike to me.

best pizza in Austin! thin, neopolitan style crust. absolutely perfectly done. if not, they'll make you a new one and you get to munch on the original! perfect toppings, you can order every one on the menu and they will not overload your pie. absolutely delicious!

The pizza is really good but the service is abysmal. You have to wait forever to get waited on then the pizza takes a really long time. The waitstaff may or may not ever check on you again and your drink might only be refilled once if you are lucky.

"Avoid this place, especially at lunch. I decided to try this place because of the reputation of a good lunch special (2 slices of pizza, salad, and a drink for $5.99). I arrived at Salvation Pizza shortly after 11:30am for lunch. I guess they just opened for the day by the disorganization of the staff. I asked if they had cheese slices and the guy had to go in the back to see what was ready (it seemed to be an unusually long time for him to find out) upon his return he told me that they did have cheese slices. I got my order to go and returned to work to eat. When I got back to work, I looked at the slices with disappointment, they looked as if they were under a heat lamp all day long. I wondered how pizza could look this old when the restaurant just opened at 11:30am. I took two bites of the pizza and immediately called the restaurant. I told them that I was not trying to be a smart @$$, but I wanted to know how old the pizza was that they served me. To my surprise (well not really), the guy told me that it was from the day before. I asked if it was common practice to serve 2 day old pizza and he responded by saying they have 24 hours to serve leftovers. He offered to make it up, but I graciously declined. As soon as I hung up the phone I called the Health Dept. to make a formal complaint. Even if selling 2 day old was legal (which its not), that doesn't mean you should do it! How many times have you been to McDonald's and find a 2 day old Big Mac under the heat lamp? I will never go to this place again and I hope they also make their employee's wear Chin Nets for all the scraggly beards working in there! I give this place a solid "F"!"

Typical pizza place. I think it's hyped up because it's an "Austin Spot," but the food is about equal to other places I've been. My friend's son wanted pizza and we remembered Salvation as being one of the "Austin" pizza joints. I had also watched the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight at the Rainey Street location and liked their garlic bread and bruschetta, so we thought we'd give this other location a shot. Service was friendly and quick and the food was hot. The fried mozzarella was great but the sauce was so-so. My friend's son ordered a pepperoni calzone -- he liked the pepperoni they used but didn't like the cheese, and ended up just eating all the pepperoni and nothing else. The adults at the table ordered an 11-inch chicken, spinach, and feta pizza to split, and we were barely able to finish the whole thing between the three of us. The pizza itself was nothing special for the price, but the ingredients seemed fresh and tasted good. I might go here if my friends wanted to try it, but probably won't return on my own.

Ohhh how I miss New Haven... The perfect Fall walk around Wooster Square "little Italy" through the park... The shootings over on Grand Ave... The Pizza and Chinese... I do have a couple of gripes about Salvation and putting New Haven right under the name... The pizza is decent, for pizza... Just not thin enough, nor the correct amount of char and crisp to it... I tried to order the white clam pie... If you know Pizza, you know about the white clam pie in New Haven... Pepes.... sadly, Salvation was out of clams, so let's go ahead and just order a basic cheese pizza for this little taste test endeavor. Lacking enough sauce, cheese, and thinness... I felt sad inside, OH WAIT.. "You're from New Haven, we gave you the wrong pizza, let me make another one New Haven style" first off.. Super confusing, your title says (authentic new haven style pizza) so you're telling me you make pizza differently depending upon the customer base??! Second pizza comes out, same everything, just cooked a little longer for the crisp aspect. All in all, the edges of the pizza were still way high and fluffy. They gave me the first pizza to take home for free (nice of you-btw!) sitting up at the little bar spot, you actually order from the waitress walking around, not the person standing in front of you giving you drinks... Confusing again... Wrapping up, this would be a 3.9 star pizza place if you just remove the New Haven part in the title.... But saying something, and then falling flat on those expectations is rough on the tongue and belly! Friendly staff.

I love, love, love thin crust pizza! That's why when I heard about a place offering New Haven-style thin crust pizza, I was super stoked!! There is nothing like biting into a crisp thin pizza, lightly charred on the bottom and still covered in pizza flour that keeps it from sticking in the brick oven. Sadly, however, after trying out Salvation Pizza, I was left still craving that New England masterpiece :( Their pizza has good flavor, but doesn't have that exact burnt-like flavor I desire. Toppings are unique...Mediterranean style, twist to the old standby Hawaiian, etc., but I like traditional plain cheese & and Salvation for me just met par. Unfortunately, the more toppings you have on your pizza, the more likely the toppings will fall off your crust when you try to take a bite. Best thing to do is to fold that pizza up and hold on tight with each mouthful. The menu is appealing though because it offers alternatives like sandwiches and salads...I'll just travel to CT though in the future if I truly crave New Haven pizza.

Solid-quality, thin crust pizzas. Honestly, I am normally not a fan of thin crust pizzas, but these were pretty decent: the pizza wasn't soggy, nor did it fall apart when eaten, which is great; the ingredients were very obviously fresh, although I feel like they went too easy on the toppings, especially in their "top ten" pizzas. Ordered the #5 (white pie, chicken, fresh garlic, prosciutto, red onion, dried sage) - this was super delicious. Packed with flavor - loved the fresh garlic and sage - and super creamy, and cheesy (& still light!), but, like I said, I wish they had been a bit more generous with the garlic or prosciutto. I think this was the favorite of most of the table of eleven. My table also agreed on the fact that the #9 (White Clam) did NOT have enough clams! It was lemony and peppery and flavorful, though, I'll give it that - but for $20.50, I expected a lot more in terms of toppings. It was also sort of too crunchy - maybe a bit overbaked? Like, there were times when I would bite and there was actually a loud "crunch" and the air bubble I bit into would crumble, it was that crunchy. The other pizzas weren't like this, so I'm not really sure if it was supposed to be that way. Anyway, there were more crunchy air bubbles on this pizza than there were clams, and that is not an exaggeration. The #8 (Hawaiian) tasted good, but again, not enough toppings for a $19 pizza. I was actually eyeing the pieces that had considerably more pineapples before I snagged them (sorry, friends), since the topping distribution was so uneven - some slices had 5-6 chunks, while others had maybe 1-2 - like literally 1-2 small chunks of pineapples on an entire slice of Hawaiian pizza. We also ordered a large sausage & mushroom pizza. I did enjoy this one - the mushrooms were large, fresh, and super delicious; the pizza had a kick from the pepper and spices; it also actually had a lot more toppings, relatively! This was probably my second favorite in terms of flavor (first being the #5), but my favorite in terms of topping quality and quantity! Anyway, the table left satisfied and full - our table ate four large pizzas, and actually wanted to order another - , but not wowed.

Calling this pie "New Haven style" may be a stretch IMHO. First off, and most importantly, Salvation cooks with standard gas pizza ovens and not coal. Pizza from say Pepe's (the famous New Haven institution), will have a superior char and flavor. Their are some similarities. New Haven pies are typically a little dryer (read - less cheese) than their New York counterpart. Salvation follows that tradition. Negatives aside, Salvation has a good crust. Possibly could use more air(?). Some of the best in town though. The sauce (on the chunky side) also had good flavor. I noticed a bit of a heat profile from the sauce too. The sausage was better than average. The large is huge (like New Haven style), so make sure you come hungry! All in all a very good pizza experience. I will come back! I asked for it well-done and it wasn't. Next time I will push on that more.

I've heard good things about Salvation pizza so I decided to give it a try with some friends a few weeks ago! Ambiance: This place is super cute especially the outdoor seating!! It's an actual house converted into a restaurant so the seating inside is limited. Service: The service was great! Our server was really busy but kept our drinks refilled constantly! The pizza's take a while to be made so keep that in mind. Food: My boyfriend and I ordered a large pepperoni pizza for ourselves and it was pretty good. There's something about the way they make there pizzas that is different from anywhere else I've been. I don't quite know what it is though but it's definitely good. I enjoyed my visit to Salvation Pizza! I don't know if I'll be back or not just because it's pretty pricey for what you get but I definitely do recommend it if you're curious!

There's the old comparison of pizza and sex -- even when it's bad, it's still pretty good. Salvation Pizza is better than pretty good. I really like their pizza. The crust has a perfect thickness and crunch. I also like their sauce as it tastes fresh. The appetizers are ok. The fried cheese and meatballs are both pretty standard pizza place appetizers. The appetizer I was most excited about was the garlic bread that used bread from Easy Tiger. The bread didn't strike me anything special and it ended up being overwhelmed by the cheese and garlic. This brings up a final observation. If you like garlic, Salvation is your salvation. Otherwise, you may feel more like the condemned.

I fought the crowds just to get to the take out counter of a popular 78704 pizzeria at 7:00 Friday night. When I asked the employee for a large margherita, she told me I wouldn't be able to get it until 9:40 PM. For take-out?! I know this place was good, but not that good. I wasn't willing to wait, and decided to finally give Salvation Pizza a chance. Salvation Pizza quoted me the customary 30 minutes, and you can bet I watched that margherita pizza get out of the oven right on time. They packed the puppy into a box for me and sent me on my merry way. I put the pizza in my car and was instantly hit by the smell of ecstasy. Like a hungry lover, I couldn't wait to get the pizza home. When I arrived home, I opened the box to see something lustily beautiful stare back at me. The pie smelled and looked good, and I could only hope that it tasted good too. The pie was AWESOME! Jesus Christ himself could have walked out of the box with George Clooney, Matt Damon, and the rest of the Ocean's 11 crew behind him, and it still would not have been better than the pizza. I love thin crusts because I think you can taste more of the toppings, and Salvation Pizza was the perfect depth. Everything was fresh and high-quality. I never thought I'd be one to say this, but the amount of garlic was perfect (when it comes to garlic, I never say "when"). Any more, and it would have overpowered the basil, tomato, and the GD delicious cheese. Again, perfect. After my experience with Salvation's take-out and truly euphoric pizza, I will be hard-pressed to fight the crowds at Hipsterslice ever again.

Bleh. That's really all that comes to mind when I think of Salvation. When my friend raved to me about how great the pizza was, I was excited to try this pizzeria that is so close to me in Hyde Park. Too bad when I actually did I was severely underwhelmed. To begin with, the servers are snooty and don't seem to care for college students. After waiting quite some time to put in our order, we probably waited close to 40 minutes to get our pizza. And it was a bit cold when we got it. But the pizza itself was nothing to write home about. While I know they serve only thin crust, it was like cold sauce on crackers! I can honestly say for the price I was expecting excellence and S.P. did not live up to my expectations.

My #1 pizza place in Austin. While typically not a fan of thin crust pizza, theirs is incredible. Make sure to try their garlic bread (which I may like even more than the pizza). I believe they make their own garlic butter, etc. and it is de-lish. Great vibe inside. Just busy enough to not feel crowded, but not empty.

i've always liked this place, because they give you a lot of food. Let's say i go there with 3 other guys, we order one large pizza for 17 bucks or so, and we all leave super full. regardless of the quality, thats a cheap dinner, even for poor college kids. but, the quality is good and the atmosphere is also nice. not the best pizza in the world, but it is nice go out and eat pizza instead of eating pizza at home. i think we always get the #4, hamburger mushroom and jalapeno. if i can remember correctly. i haven't tried anything else. its always been good.

I like pizza! (yeah, well who doesn't) Growing up Pizza Hut's personal pan pizza with hamburger meat was my favorite. Thick crusted or skinny, thin crust, I will eat. I was inspired from a recent yelp thread yelp.com/topic/austin-ne… on where to find the closest resemblance to the "New York style thin crust" With my own magnify glasses, I followed the trail for this thin crust debate through a maze of sources between yelp and the Fearless Critic. My search took me to this quaint house on 34th street, which is just on the opposite side of what I call the 34th street Christmas light neighborhood. I'm really liking 34th street. Tangent over. Well, we sat down and ordered a large with half as the #7 (Fresh basil, feta, artichoke hearts, black olive, red onion) and half #5 (White pie, chicken, fresh garlic, proscuitto, dried sage) YAY THIN CRUST PIZZA! TASTY! I LIKE! THUMBS UP! Both orders were equally delicious on their own merits. And someone from a couple of reviews before me was right, the crust at Salvation's is merely a thin foundation to hold the dazzling morsels on top. As thin as it was, our pie miraculously showed no signs of being burnt. Furthermore, important I do mention that the service was prompt and friendly. Thanks Salvation Pizza! Yours truly, a thin crust pizza FAN! ps I'm not sure if the pizza answers the "NY style pizza" debate but for myself personally it was a great pizza feat!

My rockin' New Years Eve was spent enjoying the most wonderful Salvation pizza! I am so glad we stopped in, not quite sure what to expect. I had a tasty beer, from a list of things I have never heard of. I am not a beer snob of any sort. We split or small pizza in half, the #7 Fresh basil, feta, artichoke hearts, black olive, red onion and pepperoni. Yum. The crust was perfect. We will be back. And we will be singing praises around town, for any and all to hear. Come one come all, try Salvation Pizza.

I finally got a chance to check out Salvation Pizza after hearing about its yummy goodness, and I am truly a fan. After trying out various pizza joints around town, I can no longer eat "fast food" pizza (ie Papa John's, Pizza Hut, etc). I went during lunch so I could take advantage of their lunch special, and tried their #1 and #6. There isn't much to write about their #6 (although the little bits of jalapeno in there def gave the pizza an interesting kick) but wow...for being meatless, the #1 was REALLY satisfying! That was the first time I've had white pizza before, and now I am HOOKED. I don't know why, but there is something about the cheese that tastes better than cheese I've tried on other pizzas. Growing up I've always been a fan of deep dish because I'm a carb whore, but lately I've really come to appreciate "napoletana" style. They know how to make awesome thin crust pizza. And to echo what most yelpers have said on here, their ingredients are extremely fresh. I also like how it's not as greasy as most pizza places, so I didn't leave feeling like a grease ball and overly stuffed. I wish it were closer to home, but I do want to go with friends next time and split a pizza. I'm curious to try their white clam and white shrimp pizzas.

Salvation Pizza ain't bad. The staff treated my group well - very friendly and helpful. I foolishly forgot to hand them my 25% off coupon, and they made the change after my bill got printed. The space is also large, making Salvation a prime spot for big groups. Street parking was fairly easy on a Monday night. The price is decent. Considering that we had 11 in our group fed by four large pizzas, we ran about ~$9/person, which is a decent price. However, I expected bigger flavors to come out of these pies. Each pizza seemed to be lacking a little in toppings or bite, and the only constant between them was the characteristic thin crust, which I enjoyed. Our group was satisfied, but I think another two large pizzas would've filled us up. We were left wanting more. To note: These pizzas pair perfectly with beer. I didn't order any during this visit, but I can imagine that the two would've done well together. Overall, decent pizzas, the cozy house feel, and $2.50 draft beers for HH make Salvation Pizza A-OK.

Food was good but management was horrible. Went with a groupon that clearly said one groupon per person so three of us went with one each. When we were about to pay, the manager said there's absolutely NO WAY she can apply the three groupons per table because their system wouldn't allow it. Disappointed, we politely asked if she could subtract one of our items from our bill because we were expecting to get a discount via groupon. She insisted unapologetically, quite rudely, that she wouldn't help us out in any way. We ended up paying far mar than we had anticipated, and were very grudgingly unsatisfied with the total lack of customer service. If the situation were different and we had felt appreciated as customers, we would go back. Fortunately, the friendly and delicious Pint House Pizza is just up the road.

Went here for lunch the other day. I can't decide if I want to give this place 3 or 4 stars. I'll up it to 4 because our waitress was damn cute in her red shoes and always made sure we were happy. It's not the best pizza in the world. But it's damn good pizza with a thin NY-style crust (or rather neapolitan style, I reckon). I really wanted to try their White Clam pie, but my cohorts were not into eating clam as much as I am. Yes, roll around in that gutter your mind has fallen to. I said it. I meant it. In all ways possible. Oh right. Pizza. We had the White Shrimp Pizza, which was nice but I figured would have some white sauce on it. If it was there, we sure couldn't find it. Other than that, I just have a thing about shrimp on pizza. That's not their fault, but it bears saying. The flavor combination was well done. We also tried the Mediterranean-type pizza, and that one was damn fine. Damn fine, I say! My only recommendation would be to use REAL olives instead of those canned sliced "black olives" that are, in my opinion, just a metal-flavored mockery of a good olive. Maybe kalamata? The garlic bread was good. The sauce was decent, but I could always use more garlic, herbs, etc. in my pomodoro sauce. The chocolate chip cookies! Yeah. Served with a big glass of cold whole milk! One of our friends (who used to be vegan) got them as an appetizer ( I know. ), and as he drank and munched and dunked in his milk, he said, "You know, this is SO much better than being a vegan!" No shit. Those cookies are more chocolate than anything else. If you're chilly, you should just stop in here for a bit, because it's freaking warm warm warm in this joint. I'll be back for clams and a few other things that caught my eye. Maybe expand beyond mostly Live Oak selections on draft? I could've used a big dark tap beer with the weather nowadays.

The only redeeming quality about this place is the value of the lunch special.$5.99 for a drink, a salad & two slices of pizza. That's pretty good for these days. However, the salad is basically just lettuce with Italian dressing. I think my friend's salad has a tomato slice in it- yes, that's right, one slice. The pizza was good, but not great. It was sort of bland. So if you want exciting, fantastic pizza, go elsewhere I think really the worst part about the experience was just how rude the waitress was. She acted like we were inconveniencing her for wanting to order lunch, even though we were the only people in the entire place. Also, I guess you should expect to wait quit a bit that in a little joint like this, but they are so sloooow.

Our favorite place for pizza in Austin. Been there numerous times and always top quality. As with everything in Austin, because it's so good - it does get crazy crowded on the weekends. Either go the take out route or be prepared for a 40-60 minute wait for a table.

I LOVE Salvation Pizza. It's so delicious and they have huge pitchers of Live Oak. I always eat and drink too much. The wait staff is also good and very nice. My only complaint: people with crazy kids. The last few times I've been there, people have been letting their kids treat the patio like it's a chuck-e-cheese. I swear I'm not anti-kid, but both times, these parents/kids were making it hard for people to enjoy their meal. Bring the lasso and wrangle them!!

One of my best friends lives close to here so we have visited this place plenty. I am a fan! I really love to get their white pies. My friend is obsessed with their #2 (the one with asparagus). They have great service and the atmosphere is laid back. Great beer selection. I also appreciate that we can split the pizza toppings, perfect!! 5 stars because I would definitely recommend.. one problem for me though.. BIG PROBLEM.. they don't have ranch. I'm sorry salvation guys.. I don't know what your gripe against it is..but we are in TEXAS, I know I am not the first one to ask and complain about it, but I love ranch and I love dipping pizza in it, I actually do like the dressing that the server gave me in replacement, but it was no ranch..not even close. So we ended up bringing a bottle of ranch with us on our last visit (yes, this ranch thing is that bad), we tried to be sneaky about it but I'm sure the server noticed, it may or may not have weirded her out, hopefully she understands. If you guys could just add ranch to your dressing selection I would be so happy.. but then again, me and my girlfriend find it pretty humorous to walk around with ranch in our purses anyway.

You know those old cartoons where the smell of something so good entices a 'toon from a long way off, and the 'toon literally floats to the source of that smell? That was me when at Salvation Pizza because walking to the restaurant and sitting outside, your sense of smell is bombarded with the fantastic smell of pizza (my friends say the inside is a different story, but I didn't go in to check). The outside has plenty of tables to sit at, but keep some sunglasses handy if you go at sunset. My friends and I were served by a very friendly waitress who was relaxed, knew her stuff, and was never flustered by the many requests of a semi-large party. She was quick with our drinks and refills. I recommend getting the garlic bread for an appetizer. It's delicious. It comes out hot, crisp, and not too garlic-y. The marinara sauce that came with the bread tasted fresh, and you'll be fighting the people at your table for the last slice. Overall, the pizza was great. The ingredients tasted fresh; the dough was really tasty (definitely not chain-level fare), and this deepdish fan didn't hesitate helping himself to more of this thin-crust pizza. Specifically, the #6 (sausage, onion, jalapeno, black olive) was spot on. The #2 (asparagus, bacon, jalapeno) was all right--sorry, I'm not a fan of asparagus on pizza. And the #8 (Hawaiian - pineapple, Canadian bacon) was average--I wasn't impressed with the kind of Canadian bacon they used, and the pineapple tasted more canned than I preferred. This pizza place, in its old-house setting, is a great place to hang out with friends, drink a pint (though the Live Oak Hefeweizen was too root-beer-y/bubble-gum-y for me), and grab a great slice of pizza (except for the #8 for me).

My favorite pizza in town. I came back today after too long a hiatus, and it was just as good as I remembered. Absolute perfection. Appetizers like bruschetta and salad are also great, and I really appreciate the beer selection: not very wide but all great stuff. Parking is easy, and I've always been really happy with the service. Staff tend to go out of their way to do nice things for you and help you enjoy your meal.

Starlite used to be where Salvation is now, and since I could eat pizza every meal of the day, I figured I would give it a shot. Salvation inherited Starlite's patio and unique ceiling lights, hence the awesome outdoor seating and slight feel of sophistication inside. I was a bit confused initially upon entering the door how I should get a table, but one of the servers noticed my lost expression and reassuringly said that we could pick our own table. We checked out the pizza selection and decided on the arthichokey, eggplanty, sun-dried tomatoey goodness. And yes, it was delicious, but the crust tended to be on the cut-the-roof-of-your-mouth side. The prices were very reasonable ($17 for a huge, feeds-four pizza). Sure, the beer/wine/adult beverage section of the menu is small, but the focus should be on the pizza. Any place that serves Live Oak is a friend of mine, though. The reason for only four stars is because the service was rather slow, and it's not the absolute best thin-crust pizza joint in town. It's worth a visit, though. The verdict: It's 15-20 minutes walking distance from my place, and the price is right. I'll come back here if I don't get distracted by Slices & Ices, Milto's, or Conan's.

The location and building are excellent. The interior decor is perfect. The salad dressing- mmm mmm good! I just think their sauce needs some work. It reminds me of Chef Boy-ar-dee for realz. What's up with that! The crust and physical location/design save this place.

Yum! yumyumyum!!! So I just moved here from Chicago, and to be honest, I was getting a bit nervous about Austin's pizza. I've had a slice from Homeslice - good (I realize I might need to order an entire pie to properly judge), and a pie from Parlor, but my pizza craving wasn't fully satisfied until I went to Salvation. Being a Chicago gal, you might think it's deep dish that I'm after, but thin pizza is definitely my thing. When committing to pizza for a meal, I like the possibility of eating 5 or 6 slices. Salvation was perfectly thin, and the cheese/sauce/topping ratio was perfect. We went with some friends and split 2 large pizzas; a clam and bacon white pie, and pepperoni and jalapeno with red sauce. Both pizzas were perfectly crispy and delicious. My point is this: if you like crispy pizza, go to Salvation. And don't be afraid to try something new...these guys/gals know what they're doing.

Get a) Pepperoni/Artichoke or b) Pepperoni/Basil. You will not regret it. When I discovered Salvation, I thought my favorite spots in town were good, perhaps great. But, that all came crashing down the moment I got saved. This place is so good, almost everyone I've dragged along has crowned it their #1 (in Austin). The crust is so thin and crispy with a perfect amount of olive oil to prevent a crackery texture. A perfect blend of cheeses...who said you needed "extra" to be better? The sauce...oh! this sauce...it reminds me of a small italian restaurant I frequent in Brooklyn (when I go). With a base so good, no toppings are needed. With a base so good, any toppings will be good. If you're not (or are) a fan of the hot spots in Austin - Home Slice, East Side, Mangia, Conan's, etc. - Salvation NEEDS to be your next stop. You will thank yourself later. (Hint: request backyard seating for large groups)

One of the best mistakes I have ever made was accidentally buying two Groupons to this place. On the first visit, we ordered up a large custom pie. It was a celebration of meats - pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and prosciutto. The crust was one of the biggest selling points for me. It was thin but firm enough to support the weight of our processed animal graveyard; more importantly it managed to be crispy without being burnt. Perfectly done. Not to mention that Salvation opts to sprinkle diced garlic directly on top of the pie rather than simply baking it into the sauce. I would recommend adding a dash of the red pepper flakes and parm cheese to round out the dish, with the caveat that I am a glutton for self-serve toppings. Toss in a pitcher Lone Star and you can feed (read: stuff) 3 folks for $35. I came back a second time with every intention of ordering a different pie with my second Groupon. Really. But we all know that the road to Salvation is paved with good intentions. Or something like that. Just bring me another pizza loaded with meat please. My only reservation about this place - sometimes they are understaffed at lunch, which means refills, food orders, and payment can take awhile.

Oh Salvation... I want to love you, I do. You're a stone's throw from my office. I've heard so many good things about you. But every time I go, I find the service so slow, oftentimes gruff, and the pizza alternately soggy with grease or too dry. Today we didn't even get offered the sun-dried tomato dressing on our salads... and that's what makes it so delicious. That's after we were ignored for ten minutes or so, and finally got to order. If we go back again, we'll have to call ahead. I mean, I guess for $6.50 for a salad, two slices, and a drink, I shouldn't complain, but it's hard to feel good about it when covered in grease after spending an hour on what should be a quick lunch.

This is some solid pizza. It has a super thin, but also super delicious crust. The toppings are fresh and plentiful! I like the atmosphere in there restaurant too. When we were there our waiter rocked. The prices are a little high, but its worth it.

5 stars broken down: 1.Consistency. This place def has it. Been there at all times of the day, different days of the week, sat inside, outside, ordered "specials" and built my own -- it's ALL GOOD. 2. Simplicity. The ingredients stand up for themselves, and the ambiance reflects this confidence. No snoot or fussy factor here. 3. Service. Always been taken care of here. Nothing over-the-top, but friendly and courteous. I've never sat staring at an empty glass wishing for it to be replenished, or had a mistaken item brought to me, much less waited for the check or the food. Maybe I've been lucky! 4. Clientele. Includes everyone. And their dogs and children, as they apply. The patio (complete w/ large picnic tables, park style) encourages such behavior. I've brought all visiting family members here as an inaugural "welcome to Austin" meal, and have been completely comfortable doing so (even my picky, retired in-laws). Doesn't hurt that there's an Amy's around the corner, either. :) 5. Oh, yeah -- and the pizza is absolutely positively amazing.

Lately, when people ask me where I most prefer to munch on pizza, I reply, "Salvation Pizza". (I prefer to follow the British rules of grammar when I use quotation marks. Like you care.) Perhaps you aren't surprised by my answer. Salvation Pizza is delicious. I like to keep it simple, something along the proverbial lines (there really should be a proverb about this!) of pepperoni and mushroom. I also love to order their bread appetizers. Salvation gets its bread from Chuy's Panaderia, and the bread from Chuy's (Chuy is a baker!) is frickin' good. Also, I like eating in a house that used to be full up with friends and family eating together. (If you know some horrible-yet-true story about what used to go on in this house, please don't tell me.) The service is purposeful (not fast) yet focused. I always spend more time at Salvation Pizza than I do at other restaurants, but I think that's totally cool and appropriate. I mean, technically, it IS Italian food and Italy is for lovers, sexy Vespas and gastronomists. Basically, a gastronomist is someone who really likes to taste the food when he/she eats it. So, they (the gastronomists) eat slow. (I made up that definition.) Gastronomists should go to Salvation Pizza. (I'm sorry that I've only eaten two things there; this review really isn't very "helpful". It's just that I really, really enjoy those two things--pepperoni and mushroom pizza and the bruschetta appetizer, if you're wondering.)

Great lunch special and outdoor patio (dog friendly). While the pizza was very tasty - my husband's 2 slices were really burnt (not only the top crust but all over) - was rather surprised they would serve such burnt pizza. Even burnt, it was still tasty.

Like another review said, I came away wanting to love salvation pizza. I dream about finding small, independent restaurants that own their multi-million dollar rivals. I ate each slice expecting to be amazed by the next bite, but it never really happened. All the pizzas were good ( we ordered four different pizzas ), but not spectacular. All the ingredients screamed quality, but the combinations just fell flat for me. Another factor that goes into my three star rating is my friends' reviews too. Some liked it, but most thought it was just average. I'll probably give salvation pizza another shot in a couple months, but my last trip was definitely a disappointment.

Based on these reviews, we got the #1 White Pie for takeout. Thin, perfectly cooked crust, excellent cheese, tasty basil, loads of ripe tomato slices and OMG so much garlic! HEAVENLY. Am willing to add a 5th star once we've tried the table service, but I bet it'll be great. The flavor of the pizza was spot-on and exactly what we craved. I'm so excited to have a new campus/Hyde Park favorite. And: Happy Hour is from 4-6 pm and currently features half-priced pints of Live Oak Pils. Maybe that'll be when we go back! UPDATE: oh yes, I added that fifth star. We went on a weekend night. All of the outside tables were taken, so we let the waitstaff know we'd be happy to sit inside, but would be glad to get a seat on the patio. About halfway through our first LiveOaks, someone came over and helped us move our beer and silverware to a picnic table. Score! The WhitePie #1 was exactly as tasty as we'd remembered and made for excellent leftovers the following night.

Indeed Robert S., I concur. The white pie (conveniently labeled the #1) is quite good at Salvation. As is the build-your-own. Although much to the chagrin of my comrades, my garlic breath remains two days later. Salvation Pizza is housed (literally) on 34th St., just off Guadalupe. During the lunch hour, they can't compete with the Foodheads crowd, but dinner on their covered patio is a favorable way to spend a few hours. Indoor/outdoor seating, a nice ebb-and-flow crowd, HH specials from 4-6, and a sparse, but carefully selected wine list. A chill place to meet friends for grub and conversation, although maybe not drinks. My one grievance about Salvation is their wine/beer list. It's quite limited, which I'm guessing has something to do with the owners' desire to shape the personality of the place. But Austinites are picky about their brew and their vino. A list of 5-6 ales is going to leave a lot of people thirsty. Worth a visit.

I'll admit it. I've been won over by Salvation Pizza. When in South Austin, I'll still hit Home Slice occasionally but S.P. is the best. Admittedly, I am a big fan of thin crust pizza. S.P. is in an old neighborhood near our house. The service is always great. It's never near as crowded as Home Slice and if you get there at the right time, you can get the unbelievably delicious strawberry short cake for dessert.

The pizza was really good but the lunch special puts it over the top. For lunch, you can get 2 slices of pizza, a salad, and a drink for $6. Instead of getting a greasy hamburger combo meal, come here and enjoy the covered patio and some delicious thin crust pizza. I had the #1 and #2 which were both really good. The sun dried tomato salad dressing they had for the side salad was amazing as well. Service was very friendly and helpful.

With my wife & another couple. we ventured to north Austin to try Salvation Pizza. We ordered a # 1 and a sausage, mushroom, red onion pizza. As a true fan of Home Slice, we were sure we'd be disappointed! NOT! Both pies were hot & tasty! We now have an alternative to the hour + wait at our other favorite joint! We will return! Why the 4 stars? We sampled a couple beers (names now forgotten) and ended up with 2 pitchers of (gasp) Lone Star! No Fireman's 4 (our favorite) on draft! Bottled is just not as good (in my humble opinion).

Best thin crust pizza around. Perfect amount of crunchiness, great mix of ingredients. Awesome location and a really wonderful feel when you eat at the restaurant. The patio is very nice. The reason this place isn't a five, they are slow. The pizza's usually take between 20 and 30 minutes and they are a bit pricey. You are paying for quality ingredients but none the less, you dont always want to pay that much for a pizza. Totinos sounds appetizing every once in a while. Very good happy hour, 2 dollar Live Oak beers, quality beer made in Austin, cant really go wrong there. Its just too bad it ends a six Definitely try this place out but if you can, order your pizza in advance or for pick up to avoid the wait.

I had a pizza crazing and consulted yelp for recommendations. The pizza is golden. A nice thin crust with the right amount of sauce and cheese. Ordered the small (8 slices) -it's good for two peeps and had it split with the #3 and a regular sausage. It smelled just as good as it tasted! It's places like this that I will never ever forever go back to eating Pizza Hut.

My boyfriend and I are thin-crust disciples of Marco's Pizza in Dallas (the only good reason anyone should ever go to Dallas), but tonight we tried Salvation Pizza and have literally been saved! Yes, the pizza was about $25 for the Large (#7 with pepperoni & proscuito on half), but it was SO large that it didnt even fit in the box and folded itself over on one side in order to close the top. The ingredients were superb (my bf says the pork products were yummy on his half), and the crust was PERFECT! We are converts, and I thank Salvation Pizza that I no longer have an excuse to travel to Dallas for anything!

I recently tried this place and I thought it was really good. Of course, nothing will beat Homeslice, but this a great alternative in my neighborhood. The combinations they have are really good - especially those without tomato sauce. I love white pizzas. One down side is space. I went with a large group and it was hard for them to seat us. We ended up in the back room that is really dimmly lit and not very attractive. When I looked for this review, I was surprised how long people have been reviewing it. I thought I was finding a relatively new place...guess not!

We are huge pizza snobs so when our good friend hosted a meetup at Salvation pizza our first thoughts were yeah right. One thing my wife and I agree on is pizza crust. Try the clam pizza. Really. Even if you don't like clams. Not at all "clammy". Not shut down or go to sleep mode. You have pizza to eat!

I'm a pretty serious pizza enthusiast. With my constant desire for pizza, the boyfriend and I have our regular go-to spots. For our most recent pizza outing, the boyfriend insisted we try something new. After some serious debate, Salvation Pizza it was. We decided to dine in, so I called in the order and thirty minutes later our apartment was filled with that delicious pizza fragrance... As far as the pizza goes, the crust was bordering on too thin. I mean, this is about as thin as it can get without disappearing. It does have a nice chew to it, which makes it more acceptable (I just can't stand cracker-crisp thin crust). So why do I give four stars to a pizza with barely-there crust? Their toppings! They are proof that with a little creativity and super fresh ingredients (seriously, asparagus on pizza.. who knew?) you can make a delicious pizza, regardless of the crust. There's some serious pizza competition going on, and it's not all about the pepperoni anymore, folks. The asparagus, jalapeno, and bacon pizza is aaamazing. The flavors work so well together. The asparagus flavor just sparkles in your mouth along with the tingle of spice from the jalapeno. The eggplant pizza is also delicious, with sun dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts. So look on the bright side of having super thin crust pizza: you can eat a couple more slices and it's perfectly okay. Believe me, you won't be able to stop yourself anyway... Salvation pizza? More like salivation pizza. Seriously.. I'm drooling just writing this...

I'd agree with Eric S. that Salvation is on par with Homeslice, Austin's, etc. Salvation Pizza is next door to Foodheads, in another home-turned-restaurant turn on 34th street between Lamar and Guadalupe. I personally love restaurants located in old homes, and this was no exception. I sat in the front room, which I imagined used to be the dining room. They have wine, some beers (which I guess are pretty sophisticated because I'd only heard of 2 of the 5 available), salad and pizza. Also a few fancy sodas, because I had an IBC Tangerine that tasted like an Dreamsicle. That's it. It's a very stripped down, you-came-to-get-pizza-so-order-pizza kind of vibe. The pizzas available are pretty creative though- my two friends and I shared one of their suggested pizzas on the menu which included tomato sauce (natch, but still), feta cheese, red onion, artichoke hearts and black olives. I'm usually kind of a pizza weenie and don't like to mix up too many toppings, but this kind really worked. I felt so grown-up eating things like artichokes on my pizza, too! They were kinda busy. It was cold and they were on a wait, so everyone was crowded into the front room waiting. They also didn't seem to have a list or anything going, but one guy was trying his best to accommodate everyone as quickly as possible. Once sat (which took about five minutes- not bad at all), we waited for about ten minutes before anyone came to talk to us, but we had heard to expect better pizza than service here, so it wasn't that surprising. Sodas were never refilled, but a very nice guy with a water pitcher appeared on the scene about 15 minutes before we left and he was very attentive. Had his shift started earlier, I'd probably be singing a very different tune on Salvation's service.

Yum yum yum. My pizza was excellent: basil, feta, artichoke, garlic, and mushrooms. A small pizza easily feeds two and their bottled beer, while not an awesome selection, is well priced considering what is available. Only complaint is that the service was a little slow. But since it was such a nice night, we really didn't mind.

To me, it's simple. If you hate thin crust pizza, you'll probably dislike Salvation. If you're a fan of thin crust pizza, you'll probably love Salvation. I think it's one of, if not the best pizzas in Austin. Crispy crust, delicious sauce, really nice selection of toppings, awesome beer selection. Me likey.

I'm happy to read that a lot of other people have gotten crappy service at Salvation, too. We should start a support group. My lady and I usually just call in the order for pick-up, because it's the closest thing to pizza delivery you can get in Hyde Park. The other day we had some time on our hands and decided to actually go and eat at the actual restaurant. I guess the service is a non-issue when you're just picking up, but now that I think about it, they were never terribly warm to begin with. I thought it would be a good idea to save some waiting time and call the order in 15 minutes before we got there, so when we arrived and locked up our bikes, instead of just sitting down I thought I'd notify them that we were the call-in order first. I walked up to the counter, said, "hi, we just called in a pizza - but we're not taking it to go, we're gonna --" and before i could finish my sentence the hostess looked at me like I was crazy and interrupted me with , "yeah - we'll bring it out to you." wow - welcome to Salvation Pizza! come for the pizza, stay for the hostile attitude. I grabbed a ratty Chronicle from the rack and tried to pretend like we were somewhere pleasant. it just sours your whole experience when instead of "hi, how are you?" or ANYTHING resembling hospitality, you get shitty attitude instead. We sat down and ordered a pitcher of beer from our semi-retarded-seeming, heroin-chic waitron, but even sweet beer couldn't calm the sense of unease. For the record, by the way, the pizza was delicious. We ordered a large sausage and mushroom and loved it. EPILOGUE: As we were unlocking our bikes my girlfriend told me that the hostess just gave her a dirty look. I was like, "what? what the hell did WE do?" It remains unclear, but she said that the hostess was putting our Chronicle back on the Chronicle rack when she gave said dirty look, so I'm guessing she was angry with us for not putting it back ourselves (?). This all points to one conclusion: Salvation is a good place to get pizza to GO.

I stumbled into this place since its literally right around the corner from my apartment and have been hooked since. I walked in as the main cook was setting up and made small talk/hung out/gave me a delicious blueberry muffin as i was waiting for food to be ready. I got an awesome mixed green salad with a delicious balsamic vinaigrette and two huge slices of fresh delicious pizza covered in garlic ( big ups ) for $6, which is a great lunch special. Staff is always incredibly friendly, even my dogs love the fact that they get cheese treats. A+

Good: -the pizza is amazing, especially if you're a thin-crust aficionado -the toppings are imaginative, and the house pizzas are equally inventive -it's fairly inexpensive -It's right next to Sno-Beach, making for a one-two punch of flavor delirium Bad: -Not much indoor seating -It gets super busy, and they don't often have enough people on shift to really get it all done -No one who works there is incredibly nice (not that that matters too much)

Best thin crust pizza I've ever had. It's thin and crunchy yet chewy and delicious. Reasonably priced too.

Despite Austin's never-ending list of classic, hip, and five-star restaurants, my mom insists that we eat at Salvation Pizza nearly every time that she visits Austin. "Why?" You may or may not ask. "The thin crust." My mother will most definitely respond. My mother equates Salvation's pizza and crust to a heaven sent epicurean combination resembling that of cheese and crackers. Enough said? Well, almost. Here are two pizza recommendations from our side of the tracks: #1 White pie, fresh basil, fresh garlic, sliced roma tomato (small $11.50... a small can easily feed 2 people, but if you LOVE pizza then i suggest you order 2 smalls and save the leftovers for breakfast) AND/OR Sausage & Mushroom pizza.

For me Slices and Ices was the best Pizza in Austin. However, due to increased rent it closed and I was in need of a new local pizza place. I had heard good reviews about Salvation before but never had any need to travel the extra 8 blocks to try it. Now I know what I've been missing. They offer a sensationally thin and delicious pizza cooked to perfect with excellent, fresh toppings. I'm hooked and successfully filled the void left behind by Slice and Ices. Its another added bonus that this place is local and literally in the neighborhood.

Neapolitan pizza? Are you kidding me? This is above-average college pizza at best. I've eaten a ton of pizza, and Neapolitan's my favorite. I'm slightly partial to Il Pizzaiolo in Pittsburgh, but always willing to give other places a try. I order a simple pizza because if a place can't do that well, it's not worth your money. I was thoroughly underwhelmed after reading rave reviews on yelp. Dough was average, cheese was shredded cheese (Mozzarella di Bufala or "fresh mozzarella" wasn't on the toppings list) and the sauce was bland. Really can't say anything redeeming about the place as far as top-notch pizza places are concerned. My pizza, and those of other people in the place, looked like "new york style" chain pizza, but a little bit better. The place is charming, however, and a great place for a date. Worth a shot, particularly if neither one of you is a pizza connoisseur. If you're looking for a Verace Pizza Napoletana type pizza...forget it. Looks like there's nothing even close in Austin. Tex Mex and BBQ seems to be all casual places can do in this town :-/ (but they're great at it!) I'm going to try East Side Pies...and I'll update this one when I do. The pizza at North was even worse than this, by the way.

Holy living shit this pizza is good. I'm talkin' like, DAMN. #1 with fresh basil, garlic, and sliced roma tomatoes is glorious. I add sauce to it, since it normally comes white, but either way you're a winner. Service wasn't bad any of the time i'd eaten there, albeit a tad slow. The pizza is so good though I wouldn't care if they told me to go fuck myself every time I walked into there. The pizza is just incredible. Try it.

This pizza is distinctive through its thin, crispy crust. It's a tricky comparison with other pizzas in the area because it really is quite different. I'm thinking Parlor, Slice and Ices, Mangia. The ingredients and toppings seem quality enough. So, it really comes down to what you like in crust. I've only ever picked it up, so can't speak to the on-site experience. I rather like converted houses, though previous reviewers seem bothered by a declension from previous form. Staff have always been friendly. However, it sometimes takes awhile (45m) when calling in (unpredictably).

I don't know what's wrong with me. I used to love - and I mean LOVE - pizza. I ate it all the time. Now, it just doesn't taste that great. It's still good, if you get a good pizza - but nothing like what I remember it being. Is that because there just isn't any good pizza here anymore, or has my palate done a 180? I genuinely don't know. I was in NY last year and had some amazing pizza - but maybe it's me. That said, I'm a thin-crust girl, and Salvation does thin-crust well. I'm not a huge fan of the schlubby decor, though. Someone please send a memo to Austin restauranteurs: hip does not have to equal sloppy! Also, the logo reminds me of Ed Hardy t-shirts. The pizza tasted okay - particularly the crust, which was great - but toppings weren't particularly generous. It had the least cheese I've ever seen on a pizza. Bizarre. I always thought cheese was a pretty standard component. Considering what you get for what you pay, it doesn't make a lot of sense. The wait to order and get our food was ridiculous, and the waitress totally ignored us, though she didn't look busy at all. Getting the check took forever too, and I was baffled, because this was a slow day and there was only one other occupied table. Honestly, the service ruined it for us, and the pizza isn't good enough to merit putting up with it.

Service was 10 stars After about 25 minutes after we ordered the pizza the hubby made the comment that we could have gotten a pizza quicker from Papa John's. Right about that time the waitress came over and apologized that our order was lost but that they should have our pizza out in about 10 minutes. She also let us know that our entire meal would be comped for lost pizza order. Really? I could see comping the pizza, but we walked out of there without paying a dime (well, except for the large tip we left for the waitress). Salvation Pizza just won us for life. Food was 4 stars I ordered the salad with the sundried tomato vinaigrette. The salad was nice, typical lettuce, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and chopped onions. The vinaigrette was so very good and unique. We ordered a pizza with hamburger, onions, black olives, and jalapeno's. The pizza was filled with toppings. The small pizza was plenty to fill up the hubby and I. Normally I like chewy pizza crust, but I enjoyed the crispy crust and the slightly sweet tomato sauce. I would have liked a little more cheese on the pizza, but overall it was delicious! They had a small but diverse selection of beer...no typical light American beers (Miller Lite/Bud Light) but some good dark beers in bottles and Live Oak on tap.

  • Ellie L.

So, sure, I don't love the thin crust, but I gave it a shot. To to be perfectly honest, I described my pizza as a greasy, burnt saltine cracker. If that's what it is, then fine. It's just not my thing, but... I think there was a problem in the kitchen and am seriously not sure! I would have been back to reconsider, but the server was rude and inept. Given that our interaction with him was, errr, *very* brief, that's quite an accomplishment.

Great little non-chain pizza restaurant in Austin! It is an older home converted to a business, inviting porch out front and wood floors inside. One of the best thin crust pizzas I have had in a while. You can "roll your own" toppings and that is exactly what I did! I missed out on the key lime dessert, I will have to save room for that next time. Friendly service, no attitude. No parking lot, but the street is pretty long and no meters to pay which is nice. I would highly recommend anyone who has not been to Salvation Pizza to try it out!

This was my first solid meal of the day after having spent most of it laid up and recovering from my birthday the day before. (Woohoo!) No doubt about it... this is some seriously legit pizza. The crust is tasty and thin... baked to a perfect crispy level. We ordered several types including #5, which was the chicken garlic parmesan. The mushroom sausage peppers one was delicious with a nice hint of heat and dripping with meat juices. Okay, moving on... Only thing I would change about their pizza is the amount of cheese. I like my pizzas ooey and gooey with mozzarella. Cheese was used sparingly here and I understand why (doesn't overpower the rest). I also really liked the patio feel. Nice breezy and cool night. The fresh air was particularly nice and the aroma of pizza was intoxicating.

This is an awesome little pizza place, the pizza is delicious. Better than homeslice or cazzoli's. I have been having alot of fun trying out pizza places in austin, but this seems like the best hands down.

Great things: pizza, happy hour beer, patio, friendly service Not so great things: very long wait for the pizza to come out. But it's worth it. For 3 of us (2 adults and 1 kid) we ordered a side salad and 2 small pizzas. The small pizza can easily feed 2 adults, especially if you order a beer to go with it. We could only finish 1 and 1/4 of the 2 we ordered and that is after stuffing our faces silly. If you haven't tried the white clam (#9) you need to. It's so good. I think that is my favorite now. The salad is fresh and the sun dried tomato dressing is quite good, like everyone said. This restaurant is not in my neighborhood but I'd be happy to go back there on a nice day so we can sit outside.

Quoth the website: "Everything in our kitchen is made from scratch from our roasted eggplant and mushrooms to our bruschetta and salad dressings." Had a #3 and added Italian sausage. You can definitely tell the ingredients are fresh. The flavor of the sauce has all the right herbs..hint of oregano and what's that? Basil, yes...And oohh..San Marzano tomatoes in the sauce...Of course. The roasted eggplant on top was just awesome. I couldn't really taste the artichokes because of all the other flavors. It was pretty slow at lunch, only one waitress and a cook. But hey, my tummy is happy. ....After I think about it more...this is the best pizza I've had hands down. Upgrade to 5 stars.

Today we took the kids and tried out Salvation Pizza. Overall - I really liked the pizza. We went with 6 adults and 4 kids, and I guess we hit a bad time -the pizza was great but the service just kinda disappointed. Too bad really -Salvation Pizza is the kind of place that I *really* want to like. The pizza is that super thin crust and fresh topping pizza that I grew up with in NY. Clearly cooked in a the right kind of oven, it's satisfying and tasty. We had the white pie, the white pie with prosciuitto, a cheese pizza and one other (toppings escape me for the moment). Every one was great! If you're going to get Pizza, i dont think i can recommend another place over this one. We sat outside on the big picnic tables - unfortunately, we must have gotten there at a bad time but i think they lost our order. We waited ... and waited... and waited for the pizza. The kids got hyper (sorry outside diners!), and while it was great to catch up with our new friends and neighbors, waiting for the pizza was a big downer. Overall - i really enjoyed the food; i recommend takeout in a second. but i'm going to have to reserve judgement on the whole restaurant 'experience'.

had pizza from there last night, togo, not only are the girls that work there not friendly (even more so than normal) my pizza was totally burned on the bottom. $20 WASTED. It wasnt seasoned, and wasnt burnt.... so sad. I try and try salvation... but you let me down from time to time. Last night you served crap.... gonna be hard for me to forget that.

The number 5 specialty is really good! Excellent, thin, cheesy, not greasy white pizza with perfect onions and prosciutto! I've also ordered the number 4, with hamburger and jalapeno. Get basil on whatever you get. Do yourself two favors: root beer with your pie, and save room for the 3 enormous cookies in an order of cookies and milk: they come out hot, and GOOEY chocolatey omg dreams. The dessert alone is enough for rapturous fantasies. Combine that with the pie and good time had here, and Salvation is about my favorite thing in Austin.

I really hate to only give this place two stars, but for overall experience, that's what it gets. Food: The pizza is good. Not amazing and not best in Austin, but above average. Experience: The first time I went there I really liked the location. It was a nice, laidback atmosphere. Same for the second time. Third time, however, was a completely different story. We had been at our table for about ten minutes when water starts leaking furiously from the ceiling. We can't find our server anywhere so it's up to us to put glasses out underneath the leaks. We finally found our server, but it sort of soured me on the place. In six words: Food is good. Location is leaky.

I'd heard rave reviews from friends about Salvation so when I craved pizza yesterday (a chilly, rainy Saturday,) I decided to give it a try. Part of my good impression might be attributed to the fact that we were the only table in the house. Who knew that 4pm on a wet Saturday afternoon was the time to go? Service was perfect - not annoyingly checking up, but aware of dwindling water levels. The pizza - stellar. Perfectly crisp thin crust with just the right amount of sauce. We created our own trio of toppings that were phenomenal together - prosciutto, asparagus and ricotta. I'll go back again and again and again until I encounter falling roaches like a previous reviewer. Hopefully that will never happen.

Yummy. The pizza was scrumptious (mushroom, feta, onion and roma tomato) and the garlic bread was almost better. Service was laid back but still good.

I'm giving them four stars for potential. People like to say that the pizza at a particular place is "good" or "not so good" but with pizza (as with bagels and some other things) it's important to specify what your standards/preferences are so we know what "good" means. Two things that for me work in Salvation's favor are the crust and the sauce. The crust is thin and crispy Neapolitan style (not NY style) which I happen to like. The sauce is toward the fresh tomato end of the spectrum rather than the tomato paste end, with bits of fresh garlic - also a good thing in my book. The down sides are that they go very easy on the cheese (probably to save money) and that one of our pizzas was so charred black that it was almost too much even for me (definitely for the rest of my family). If I could count on it not being burned, I'd be a regular.

I stopped by on a Sunday, expecting great things, but left disappointed. Maybe it was the day I went, but honestly I just can't go over 3 stars. Part of this was definitely my fault. I ordered a slice, but they weren't doing fresh slices at that time. So I got a slightly stale slice and a beer (great selection of draft, which is what made this three stars instead of just 2). I went outside, where I dealt with 2 out of 4 smoking despite being far under the stated "15' from the front door" requirement. Based on the other reviews, I will try it again and order a fresh pie, but if you are looking for a slice, try somewhere else.

Hmmm....I concur. Service WAS slow and pizza was good, I'd eat it again, but not Tony the Tiger Grrrrrreat. The funniest part of the meal, actually there are 2: 1) i am a small girl and I could have kicked my waiter's butt he was so skinny. My point is, do NOT ask him if salad was big enough to share. Someone that skinny is of course going to say "yes, plenty " Was it? Hells no. 2) cute waitress refilled my Hefeweizen with ice tea!?! But they made ok by giving me a fresh (and free!) beer. All's good now! Toppings are good-capers on a pizza? I wonder but we went with #7. The pre-chosen pizza combos also seemed slightly inventive but again, you can also make your own. Great patio! Beer temp very German (AKA, not very cold) and nice fans to keep you comfortable for your long, long wait.

  • Jay M.

Delicious pizza, quaint atmosphere, and good wait staff. Nice place for a gathering with friends or a casual date. The pizza is delicious! Crust is thin and crunchy--good stuff. I recommend trying the asparagus/bacon/jalapeno-topped pizza, but honestly, it is ALL good! They play some really cool eclectic music, and the table tops are interesting: they have random artwork on them, like astronauts and eagles?! I hope to go back to this place sooner than later!

Being a pizza elitist asshole, Salvation will receive no more than a 3 because: 1. They use cornmeal in their dough. 2. They only use a 500* oven. That said, the ingredients are fresh and the pizza is quite good. Not to mention that they have 2 dollar pints of Live Oak on Thursday. It's bueno for everyone but assholes like me.

Austin was a pizza black hole for years, but suddenly we've been blessed by a bunch of small pizza joints making very good pies. Salvation is my favorite of the lot. There's nothing on the menu but pizza and a side salad (worth ordering for an amazing sun-dried tomato vinaigrette). The oven and yeast come straight from CT, and the pizza is in that classic style. Thin, crispy crust, with a nice yeasty tang. I was ecstatic to see a white clam on the menu, though the flavor was overwhelmed by all the garlic. I think their tomato sauce cuts through the garlic much better. It's certainly as close as I'm going to get to Pepe's or Sally's here in Austin, and that's saying a lot. There's street parking and seating on a nice patio. I agree a deeper beer/wine menu would be nice, but there's very little else to complain about here. Definitely worth your time!

  • Lara J.

So i was really excited about trying the clam pizza. I love it at Home Slice but it is so far and crazy over there all the time. Don't bother with the clam pizza at Salvation. It has bacon on it and barely any clams so it is basically a giant salty bacon pizza with a very light sprinkling of very small clams. We did have a giant carafe of wine which was good but i was disappointed overall. I will still have to go to Home Slice for my super clam pizza but still like Salvation for the calm atmosphere and close location.

I haven't had any problems with this neighborhood establishment. This pizza is defined by the quality of the toppings and the ability to mix and match. This is probably the #2 Pizza place in Austin for me compared to Homeslice, but given the fact this place is within walking distance and is never as crazy busy as Homeslice often is, I go here more often. I recommend this place for someone looking for a place to get a pitcher of beer and split a pizza with 3-4 people total, its not the quickest, but the job gets done. Most important however is to try new topping combinations, as that is where the surprises come in. The asparagus and the sun dried tomato are killer additions to any pizza.

  • Mark S.

eh. it was OK. i tend to avoid places that perpetuate La Vida Hipster anyway, but that's not all i didn't enjoy about this experience. it was a sunday night. not inordinately crowded or busy from my estimation. yet our entrance was unnoticed. we were confused about the seating protocol. once past that awkwardness we sit unattended long enough to wonder if we are supposed to order at the counter or what. my gf got up to find out. awkward. nope. wait at the table and someone will saunter over when they get around to it. summing it up: ordered a half/half pizza that i've already forgotten. paid the bill. left. seemed no one could have cared if we had ever been there or not. oh well. i won't rush back, but i wouldn't throw a fit if someone suggested it.

Definitely a salvation since I didn't feel like driving to Home Slice. The crust is nice and thin and a great balance between crispy and chewy. This place may have the best pizza north of Lake Austin, and is definitely my current favorite. We've had the #1 both times that we've been, which is called a Margarita back home (New Haven, CT). This did it justice with plenty of delicious garlic and they managed to keep from burning the fresh basil. I see no reason to order any other pizza, unless I'm ordering more than one... The location is nice, especially with the close location to Hyde Park/UT Campus. They have a porch with seating as well as an indoor dining room that is close, but very nice. The porch seating is amazing during a warm evening, especially since the street that the restaurant is on is fairly quiet. Service is very polite, and they let us know when an outdoor table was available after seating us inside. It only took a wait of about 20 minutes before the pizza hit the table fresh from the oven. Also, our waiter had the common sense to check in once, and was good about recognizing when we'd finished. Thumbs up. They also have a bar that serves beer and wine. All of the beer on tap is Live Oak, but they have a good selection of it (I'd recommend a pind or two of the pilsner as it goes great with pizza; light, crisp, and refreshing), as well as other beers in bottles. I've ordered for pick-up and have also experienced the table service, and both are phenominal. They are very good at estimating when your order will be ready (when they said pick-up in 30 minutes, I didn't wait at all in the restaurant), and service is very timely when sitting at a table. Now, when I'm craving good pizza I know exactly where to go for it.

I hate to compare, but I like the Parlor's pizza slightly better. But only slightly! The beer could have been a little colder. But I can give some slack to a place that's still hasn't finished it's back room. However, the pizza was very good, not too hot when it came out and a good size for a good price. The toppings here are very interesting, for example they have a pizza with artichokes, bacon, and jalapeno. The service was a bit slow, but very friendly and easy going. The atmosphere was also good, interesting deco and unlike the Parlor, you can speak in a normal tone of voice to be heard. While I couldn't give a full 4 based on the food and service alone (beer could've been colder), the food, friendliness of the staff, decoration, and atmosphere together are enough for a 4, in my opinion. I would definitely like to go back.

Just not excited about it! Maybe it was the 40 min. wait for pizza to come out. Maybe it just stretched my hole in the wall limit. I don't know. Pizza is such a personal thing!
