Tokyo Japanese Steak House Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Most of the food here is pretty stellar. The full hibachi dinner with the filet mignon is amazingly good...though a bit too salty. I also love the Christmas Roll, pork gioza and fried tempura sweet potato. The one dish that I really didn't like at all was the chicken hibachi that I ordered off the menu...it had that rubbery texture that many chain restaurant chicken has. For some reason it tastes completely different than the hibachi chicken they cook in front of you. All in all, great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. My only complaints so far is the kitchen cooked hibachi chicken, the watered down tasting sodas and the chef's putting shrimp in my rolls when I ask for only crab. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good asian food with friendly service. They're very professional.

The sushi chefs are amazing and the staff is always so kind. They are always accommodating our large family regularly! The food is always good. Some people complain that their sushi takes too long to come out, but you must realize that they're making art and it takes time!

This restaurant is located on Presidents place which is a frontage road that runs parallel to Sam Ridley on it's south side. I have been to this place several times over the years when we are visiting family in the Smyrna area. The dining room is large and well decorated. The staff has always been friendly and very attentive. I can speak to everything but the sushi. We usually go with the hibachi and have so far not been disappointed. The portions are always plentiful and the meats are always cooked well. Even the scallops which tend to get rubbery when done on a hibachi grill. The show they put on is always upbeat and entertaining. I have probably been to thirty or better hibachi places in my lifetime, and these chefs rate up there with the best. The prices are decent for what you get, but maybe a bit high for the area. They are open for lunch and have a lot of good lunch specials. Make a reservation as it tends to get busy around diner time. Bottom line: Great Food Great Entertainment Nice Staff Decent Prices

We had a great experience last night. The Kamikaze roll was really, really good and we enjoyed our Hibachi meals as well. Good times and great for my wife's birthday!

Well, not bad for the middle of landlocked TN I suppose. Can't say this place passed the litmus test of a good miso soup. Their salad dressing was WAY too sweet and not enough ginger in it. However, surprisingly, the sushi/sashimi was pretty good quality! I have to say though that if I lived around here, this would be a good choice, but if you're coming from anywhere else that has a good Japanese selection for restaurants, you'll be disappointed. It's overpriced, and just a little off like most Chinese-run Japanese places.

This is one of my favorite hibachi grills of all time. The cooks are always so wonderful, and the food is amazing.

===sushi only review==== I've now had the chance to eat here a handful of times, one of which was for lunch. I usually sit at the sushi bar and chat with the chefs as much as they are able. Each time, I have found the service to be good to very good. The

As soon as I got past the nice atmosphere and friendly service and tasty food, I realized that it's slightly overpriced and have had better quality hibachi in other cities. You can only have hibachi once for the first time. It brings joy to many people, why is it so good? the show. And lots of great food. I'm going to plant this seed, don't get your expectations up, and you won't feel disappointed. But it's worth a try for some delightful asian cuisine. They have sushi, and ok atmosphere. You can even hang out at the bar and just grab a drink. why not? what else are you going to do in Smyrna.. LOL

I have only visited this restaurant at lunch time so I don't know what it is like during its peak dinner hours. The decor is very nice and there are plenty of hibachi grills. The food has always been very good but not what I would call great. But I can say that I have never had a bad meal there. I know that part of the fun is your chef and sometimes you get a chef with a lot of personality who makes it fun and sometimes you get a chef with no personality who just goes through the motions. At times, service has been very slow. Overall, I can recommend this restaurant as a good place to go in Smyrna.

Excellent!!! Food was great! I love this place and will continue eating here since I live in Smyrna. Great atmosphere. Not some crappy steak house. Your normal pricing as Japanese Steak Houses are. Great portions. Tons of flavor!

My hubby and I went here to treat ourselves after moving out to the boonies (aka Smyrna). The chef was very entertaining, we had a private table since we were the last ones there one evening. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. We got the special- filet, lobster and chicken. LOTS and LOTS of leftovers! Will definitely be returning but maybe for their early bird special to save some loot. They have half off before 5pm Monday - Thursdays.

Dont let the strip mall deter you. Amazing sushi and hibachi. CLEAN! Great staff. Food is phenomenal. Beautiful interior. Go there. Now.

Two words- seafood sauce!! Everything is absolutely delicious every time! Andy the owner is always there to greet you and to check on you and see how your meal was. Great atmosphere, and did I mention, fried ice cream?!? Yum!

This place is sitting off the road in an unassuming strip mall. I went over for dinner with a coworker. We were seated immediately, and received great service from the wait staff. I ordered the shrimp and steak, along with an Alaskan Roll (Smoked Salmon). The Salmon was okay, nothing to really write home about. Their "clear soup" was really really salty chicken broth. The hibachi food, however, was awesome. I would give this place 4 stars, except half way through cooking the steak portion, the chef made a very distasteful decision with one of his antics. I would suggest that they train their chefs to not assume the relationship between people at the table.

My wife and I are Japanese Hibachi junkies. We have eaten at the majority of them in the greater Nashville area. Tokyo in Smyrna is by FAR our favorite. The food is excellent, every time, and the service is great. Go for the Early-Bird special. It starts at 4:30pm and goes till around 6pm I think. Prices are reduced for the same dinner portions. Enjoy!

It's like the theme park of hibachi places. This place has some atmosphere and a bar area, private dining area, sushi bar area, a waiting area, and a hibachi area. They even have a blue arrow path so patrons can make it safely to the restroom. Our server was short and to the point ... Just the way I like it. food: Ginger salad was nice and crunchy but a little watery. Soup was perfect. Oniony and slightly salty. Bar drinks came out with lightening speed and were on point. The hibachi was delicious. Perfectly cooked with a slight twang. I highly recommend a trip to Tokyo.

  • Jimmy K.

Good atmosphere. Family friendly. The food is pretty decent. If you order sashimi, wait about 2 minutes before tasting it. The temperature of freshly served sashimi reminds you more of fish out of the refrigerator than freshness. However the fish is fresh. Just better when eaten at the right temperature. Not the biggest fan of the rolls here but certainly not a bad choice if you're not into raw fish!

We did the hibachi and it was great. They allowed us to split with our two year old free of charge. The staff was nice and our chef did a great job. It is a teeny tiny bit more expensive than other hibachi places I have been to but we will be back :)

A pleasant surprise awaits you nestled in a strip center behind yet another strip center. Friendly staff and appropriate themed decor is what you would expect at most teppanyaki grills along with the cooking flair that teppanyaki chefs are renowned for. What I didn't expect the above average sushi I ordered as an appetizer. Fresh and traditionally done. The chef master at our table/grill cooked my steak and shrimp perfectly (I think his name was Tony and lives part time in Hawaii). A full bar that stocks traditional Japanese beers along with Sake is a plus! I will definitely return on my next trip!

Reasonably priced, clean, great service and A LOT of tasty food. We were able to share our hibachi dinner with just a $6 share charge and we still had 3 to-go boxes at the end of our meal. The chefs and waiters were very friendly and attentive.

  • Dailoc N.

The place is good but a little on the expensive side. The atmosphere is nicer than most of the others in the area. i've had the hibachi only a couple times, both experiences were enjoyable. Usually I go just for the sushi when I'm out for lunch. It's made fast and the fish is really fresh. The salmon skin handroll is really good so it's something I get almost every time along with the seaweed salad. If you're in the area I say that you give the place a try.

  • Brandon W.

Surprisingly nice place, good food. The having dinner done on the hibachi is really fun, especially if you have a big group there for dinner. Food was really good, so don't get scared off by being at a strip mall.

This turned my wife from thinking Sushi was something akin to the show Fear Factor to a Sushi loving raving fan. It may seem odd to be in a strip mall but once there the environment is very pleasent, the staff are fantastic and I have had Sushi all over the country from top restraunts that have nothing on this outstanding place. Cannot recommend it enough!!!

If you are in the mood for Hibachi but don't want to drive to Manami, this place is a decent replacement. But if you are in the mood for Sushi but don't want to drive to Naked Fish, It's, eh okay. So if location is your deciding point, it makes "the cut" because it's close to that side of town. If you don't mind an extra three miles, go eat at Naked Fish or Manami.

Check out my original review first! Quick update... after eating the steak and salmon and skipping the house salad dressing, I'm revising this from 3 to 4 stars. The steak and salmon cook much better than the chicken on the hibachi grill. I keep coming back for more, so 4 stars is appropriate.

'Meh' is exactly how I felt after eating here. My husband and I ended up here one Sunday night because it was one of the few places still open that wasn't Logan's (I hate Logan's) and we didn't feel like cooking. I never feel like cooking, but that's beside the point. Our server...she wasn't mean, and she wasn't rude, but she wasn't very nice either (if that makes any sense). She seemed annoyed that we were in her section. We showed up within an hour of closing, and I remember how I started feeling when it was almost closing time when I worked at McDonald's, so I get it...but I also didn't work for tips. The food wasn't anything special. My husband ordered Katsu Don (I think), and all it was just a slab of fried pork over a bed of lettuce with "katsu sauce" that you could pour over it. It was just worcestershire sauce. It was definitely nothing fantastic, and it was $13. I got two sushi rolls, and they left something to be desired as well as also being overpriced. Our tab was about $45, and what we got was nowhere near worth that. I'd llike to say that we will give this place a second chance, but we don't want to pay that much for it.

The hibachi is one of my families yearly birthday spots. The steak and lobster are always amazing! The hibachi chefs are always courteous and make sure everyone has an great time! Don't let the strip mall fool you, like I saw in another review.

  • Brynda Q.

Food was fine, and goodness know there was lots of it. Only downfall was being seated with 5 giggly teenaged girls. This is apparently the place to come for teenage birthdays. There were at least 4 other parties like the one at our table.

Have been several times and the hibachi is always great! Usually get steak and scallops which are cooked to perfection and generous portions. I have also tried their sushi on a couple of occasions. It is always great, but if you get it and the hibachi you will be stuffed! I've never had a bad cook either. They are always very engaging and not only get the food just right, but keep you drawn into the process with flashy tricks and witty banter.

Based on the positive Yelp reviews, I decided to check out Tokyo Japanese Steak House with a friend. I love sushi and Japanese food as well as Hibachi, so I was excited to try it out. We were seated at a table with a young couple and a family - mom, dad, and their teens son. Sitting with strangers is often the case when you go for Hibachi, so I didn't mind. It got annoying later though. I went with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while and I was wanting to talk and catch up. But the guy from the couple sitting next to us kept looking over and listening every time I'd try to talk to my friend. Obviously not the restaurants fault, but still annoying. The waitress took our drink orders, returned promptly with our drinks, and then took our food order. I ordered a spicy tuna roll (huge sushi lover) and the basic chicken hibachi meal, which includes soup, salad, a shrimp appetizer, and then the main part of your meal - fried rice, vegetables, and your meat of choice (like I said, I chose chicken). When the waitress brought my sushi, she didn't give me any chopsticks. I had to wait for her to come back and ask her for some, and then it took her a few minutes to finally return with them. The sushi was subpar. The tuna was very very finely ground. It was almost like someone had pulsed it to death in a food processor so that it was nearly a paste like consistency. So it just made it taste kind of...mealy? Like a mealy apple texture, if that makes sense. It just didn't taste like fresh fish to me. The ginger that it came with was decent though. The soup was ok - basically just chicken broth with a few mushrooms thrown in. The dressing on the salad was not that great. It was ginger dressing. Ginger so supposed to be somewhat sweet, but also a bit spicy as well. This dressing was more on the sickly sweet side, and the salad was a bit drowned in it. The man who cooked our hibachi, while being very sweet and nice, didn't seem to know all the little cool tricks that the other chefs knew. He basically just stood there and cooked our food, while other chefs at the other hibachis were throwing food into their hats, flipping knives, etc. So that took away from the whole experience a bit. The fried rice was actually quite good. There's something about the rice on the hibachi that has this really good sort of smoky flavor or something. I really enjoyed it. The shrimp appetizer is tiny - he gave us each two shrimp. I've been to other hibachi restaurants that do shrimp appetizers and it was always more like 10 shrimp each. So that was a bit of a rip off if you ask me. The veggies were good. Nothing amazing, but good. Same with the chicken - good but not amazing. I feel like I could make something just as good at home. They give you two dipping sauces, one is ginger sauce and the other is "yum yum sauce." The yum yum sauce is obviously just ketchup and mayonnaise mixed together with a bit of worcestershire and maybe a couple other things thrown in. I could tell because I've made that same sauce in the past with some homemade chicken tenders - its a taste and color you cant forget. Overall, it was just average. Watered down, Americanized Japanese food. Not sure if I'd go back.

The hibachi was good, but the sushi was even better. 2nd visit was for sushi takeout, and if possible, was better than the first visit. This is the best place we have ever ordered sushi from. We refer so many people to this restaurant because we know they are always consistent. The food is always fresh and delicious. The hibachi is also fantastic and fun. Way more than enough food. The scallops are phenomenal too. We have had a lot of different sushi rolls here and all of them are fantastic. You can't wrong. The fried rice is awesome. You can't go to this restaurant without eating the fried rice or you will miss out. Our meals range from $60 on up depending on what you order. The best suggestion I can make if you want to save money is to go during lunch. You can get the lunch box and it has a little bit of everything. The owner is awesome he remembers everyone that comes on. Every time we walk in he makes us feel so welcome and he even remembers if we don't have kids with us or not. I highly recommend this place!!! :)

FRESH sushi = and great chefs. Super clean, friendly and delicious - try the sashimi. I especially loved the yellow fin and snapper. Will be back weekly!

Food was fine, and goodness know there was lots of it. Only downfall was being seated with 5 giggly teenaged girls. This is apparently the place to come for teenage birthdays. There were at least 4 other parties like the one at our table.

LOL

Surprisingly nice place, good food. The having dinner done on the hibachi is really fun, especially if you have a big group there for dinner. Food was really good, so don't get scared off by being at a strip mall.

Enjoy!
