My sister has talked this place up! She would undoubtedly give it five stars. However, I was pretty disappointed after my visit today. I had a BOGO coupon for the quarter chicken with two sides. I chose a salad and green beans. Really can't go wrong with that right? Wrong! The green beans tasted like straight garlic. I love garlic but this was too much. The salad was pretty bland and the croutons a little stale. The chicken was OK but not great. Honestly, all this place did was make me 1. Glad I had a coupon and 2. Crave Calypso in Nashville. The two stars are for the restaurant itself, very clean! And the lady that took our order was funny and helpful.

Meh. I tried the Calypso Beef Wrap (maybe a mistake for a place named for chicken). The beef was spongy.. I'm not really sure how else to describe it. After I picked all the gross beef out, the flavors were great (though I think I was missing ingredients? I only had tomato, cheese, and sauce). Waffle fries were seasoned nicely and it's a decent sized drink that comes with the meal, but I can't help but feel cheated. It was absolutely not $7 worth of food, even if the beef had been edible.

I don't know what it is about this place, but I just love it. Never have I had a bad meal here- Drive thru, or Dining in, this is just a consistently good place to eat when you're tired of the other typical fast food joints in the area. I've had a few different things off the menu, but I'm always drawn back to the grilled chicken with macaroni. The chicken is always grilled perfectly, with just enough seasoning, and the macaroni is probably my favorite from anywhere. Also love the selection of sauces available- The cilantro garlic and curry mustard- I could just drink them with a straw lol I've tried several times to recreate the sauces at home, to no avail... So i just keep going back for my fix :) Only giving it 4 stars because the service is usually pretty shitty. But it's a fast food place, and a bunch of stoned teenagers- What do you expect?

Disclaimer- Food is amazing. Just had dinner here, ordered the quesadilla salad. Ever bite was great, right up until I almost bit down on a twisted piece of metal wire. Now, this isn't just a review on quality control. I brought to the managers attention that I had almost skewered my cheek and showed her the piece of metal. Her first response (I kid you not) was to ask which salad I ordered! Seriously? I almost pierced my cheek in a non-emo stage of life due to your organizations negligence and your first utterance is to inquire as to which salad had a metal needle in it? Was there any option I could have mentioned that would have made sense? Does the southwest salad usually have more metal spike tendencies? Terrible management. I will say that more than two of the employees offered apologies and even offered dessert (didn't take my chances). I would not dissuade anyone from eating here, but bring a metal detector just in case.

This place has been opened for nearly 2 years & I've never ate here. When they first opened, they brought food over to my work. I tried some of it then & wasn't too impressed. Everything tasted from a can. Not much flavor. Today I decided to try them again. I used the drive thru, it took no time at to order. I ordered the chicken quesadilla combo, & did waffle fries as my side. It came with a drink too, & was $5.79 before tax. I pulled up to the window & paid. It took about 45 seconds to get my food. It takes longer at Taco Bell. It was at 2:15pm so I was worried the food had been sitting under a heat lamp. I took the food back to work and tried it. I love a waffle fry. These look like they'd be somewhat Cajun & peppery. They are not. My fries tasted like they'd been sitting a little in a heat lamp. They were warm, but kind of dried out & very chewy. I put some ketchup & salt on them & it made them okay. Onto the chicken quesadilla. I don't know what it is about quesadillas, but I LOVE EM. Tortilla, cheese, sauce, & chicken, how can you not love it?! There chicken quesadilla wasn't as good as I've had before. The tortilla wrap used is kind of thick, this one I think too had been sitting out & it was hard on the edges. Inside, chicken, cheese, some kind of sauce & tomatoes. It was okay, but it needed more flavor. More flavor from the chicken, more flavor from the sauce, more flavor from the cheese. It was just bland. The whole meal was bland. I wouldn't mind waiting 5 minutes for the food to be prepared to order, as opposed to eating something that had been sitting around for a while.

I wanted to like this place, I really did, but it fell short of my expectations. First off the place was a mess when we got there, lots of leftover food and dirty tables plus an incredibly sticky floor. Service was okay, they continuously walked by and checked in which honestly was kind of annoying. The food was mediocre and I agree with another review that it seemed most of the food was out of a can. The beans were not drained and congealed together. I asked for tomatoes and got four little pieces of diced tomato. Their sauces were interesting but the only decent one (in my opinion) was the cilantro garlic. Overall I was not impressed with Pollo. Like I said I wanted to like it but it fell short in many ways and I doubt I'll go out of my way to return.

Just had the chicken quesadilla wrap and it was amazing. Grilled on the outside, tender flavorful chicken with cheese and diced tomatoes with this amazing sauce, slightly ziingy and slightly sweet. Delicious!

Really good food and service! I had the grilled chicken wings with waffle fries and a side Cesar salad. With a lemonade. Very good. Cheap too. They sale beer which is a plus for my step dad. We never ate here before and we enjoyed it. I'd eat here again definitely.

This was the second time I have been to Pollo Tropical. The first time was awesome, with great service and fantastic food. This review is for the snotty manager and no chicken! Went in and the three people in front of me left without placing an order. As I approached the cash register, the cashier stated it would be a thirty minute wait for chicken. Isn't that what they are known for??? As we were standing there, we got an update that it would be 15 minutes. I said okay and we placed our orders. Thinking about it, I asked if they would discount our order for the inconvenience. The cashier said no and I asked if she would ask a manger. The female manager 5'6", shoulder length dark brown hair, mid 40's was snotty and stated that they just could not do that. I stated that seemed only fair and she was flippant and said no. I then told the cashier to cancel my order and went next door. Too bad Pollo Tropical. Your food was so good the first time, but this time you just lost a customer because of your manager!

Not a bad place to eat at . Went here with a friend and the salad was okay . I wouldn't order a salad here again. But I guess I would go here again to eat if I had too. Overall I recommend you guys to try it out and tell me how you feel about it.

Thanking yelp for this little spot. I often travel I-24 from Nashville to Atlanta and I would have never expected to have experienced such amazing fast food. For starters, it took me forever to choose something from the menu; everything looked so good. I ended up with the chipotle chicken sandwich and corn soufflé as my side. YUM!!! I will try something different next time (tomorrow), but I would certainly recommend the chipotle chicken sandwich.

We were hungry and it was about 6pm ..We had just left Ross' clothing shopping and I wanted something different but good..So, we saw the sign for Pollo Tropical...well hell, it's hard to miss a big yellow building too...lol!!! We had never been here before. None of us!! We went in and we checked out the board menu above the cashier area. Tony opted for the Chipolte Chicken Grilled sandwich with tomato and lettuce and this chipolte sauce..he said it wasn't that hot. His side that he chose was the Black Beans and yellow rice...he said it was really good!!! He also chose a cold bottle of Budweiser Noel chose the Grilled chicken wings with a side caesar salad and waffle fries with iced cold sweet tea..She liked it but not crazy about the salad. We chose several different dipping salsas from the bar for tasting and trying...my favorite was the Pineapple Rum..it was a sweet glaze that I fell in love with.. I opted for a bowl of some type of salad..it was yellow rice with black and red beans, Grilled chicken with roasted kernel corn, grilled onions and peppers, and tomatoes chopped up. It was different. I topped it off with two salsa, the pineapple rum and a fiery salsa. It was really good...I liked them both. I had soda to drink. I would eat here again if I was in the area, but I wouldn't seek it out. The food was good, but I like seated restaurants with table side service better. I hate fast food atmospheres. The place was clean and rather large. We had a floor show of some mid 40 year old couple...he grabbed her bootie while at the salsa bar, I mean hand on the butt under the skirt...I was like WHAT THE ????? I could see she was wearing blue undies under that khaki skirt..I was like spitting my soda out my nose laughing.. Then they had a couple passionate kisses at the table before walking hand in hand out...she went to her car and him to his...We noticed different TN county tags...did we just witness the signs of a lingering rendezvous ...felt like an episode of CHEATERS...lol !!!

This place is fast casual. The service style would remind you of Fazoli's or Macalister's. You order at the counter. They give you a number. You sit down, and they bring you the food. The food exceeded my expectations. The chicken breast platter was big enough. The sides were good--the black beans taste fresh enough (if only a little bland, as black beans are oft to be) and the yellow rice with vegetables is generous and pilaf-esc. The marinade and searing on the chicken is notably better than most restaurants in the fast casual category. The chicken breast tastes remarkably homemade, which is leagues ahead of grilled chicken used elsewhere in the industry. But then again, they better have exceptional chicken, given their name! The package deal you get is fantastic. But the price is moderate to steep for fast casual. Just under $10, this really pulls them back from 5 star superiority. Also the lack of outdoor seating was surprising for a tropical themed place like this (I see umbrellas outside, probably decorative, but no tables!!!). Most other fast casual places have outdoor seating. I would go here again. The chicken is just that good.

Pollo Tropical is all the rave in Smyrna. Um. Ok. I was greeted at the door by "Pops" who asked me if I was dining inside or carry out. We entered the building which is set up for fast food dining, but he walks me to a table and sets a number placard on the table and told me to order at the counter and return to this table. Well, the table was small and near the entrance on a cold day. There was an employee arranging the "Sauce Bar" and I asked her if I cold move. She told me to ask Pops. I took my number to a different table and sat down waiting for a friend. It's fast food folks. When I approached the counter to place my order the abundance of order takers were friendly and helpful. They helped me navigate the large selection of food and made suggestions. I chose the 1/4 Chicken Plate with Red Beans and Rice and Caesar Salad. The island spiced chicken had crispy baked skin, tender chicken, and great flavor. The beans/rice was a nice combo with the island chicken, but the salad was very good. The salad had fresh romain green leaves and just the right amount of dressing. The food, fast, but good. The Sauce Bar is fun and perfect for those who are into flavor...have at it. It's certainly a "dinner priced" fast food place, but very fresh and tasty.

Order a tropichop and you'll be sucked in to this great place. The bar with condiments is clean and full of some excellent toppings for whatever you may order. Highly recommended for a great meal on the go or to bring the whole family to

Fills the gap between fast food and sit down. Friendly greetings from the staff is a good start. The food was fast - food was beating people to their tables. Many tables were messy when I arrived, but cleaned up later. Busy drive thru. Umbrellas outside for shelter for smokers. BBQ sauces were good. The food was not very "Caribbean" tasting. Had the Trio so I could try several things - wings, chicken, riblets. My suggestion - skip the riblets. As for the sides, the "Souffle" far from being one, but tasty whatever you want to call it. The Caesar salad was pretty good for pre-prepared. Poster about the ordering process says one of the sides is broccoli & carrots, but they don't have it any more. Spent $13 for lunch - more like sit down prices.

An old friend and I went to this restaurant to try it, it being the first time either of us had been there. We were excited because we had heard good things about it. When we went through the line we felt rushed, but got through and sat down. They said they would bring our food to us. After an unusually long wait for our food, my friend noticed she didn't get the side order she had ordered for her meal. She asked the waitress about it, and she said she would check on it. Shortly after, she came back demanding that my guest show the receipt for her order, as if she were lying to the waitress about it!! My friend was embarrassed, I was horribly embarrassed, and the waitress had a horrible attitude. She finally did get what she ordered, but not after being made to feel like a dishonest patron. Shortly after this I wrote an email to the manager of the restaurant, explaining this story and telling how disappointed we were in now we were treated. I at least expected a reply, and maybe an apology. I received nothing. I will NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone, and personally I hope it closes. You just don't treat patrons that way!

Been here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Lunch was packed, I ordered the 1/4 chicken, beans and rice and plantains, it was great and the sauces were good. Went back for dinner, got a $5 pitcher of Sangria during Happy Hour. Really glad they decided to keep wine and sangria in the chain despite Tennessee's wack laws on that. The Sangria was not the best I've ever had in my life, but it was the best I've ever had in a fast food restaurant or for $5/pitcher. Chicken and tostones at dinner tasted like it had been sitting around though, so I can't say the food is always fresh. What this place has going for it is the guava desserts - yum! - the tostones, yuca, and platanos maduros. You won't find anywhere else serving those around here (some of the Central American places in the area serve maduros, but that's it). I would certainly go back just for some of those sides, but the chicken isn't amazing.

What happen to Pollo Tropical. Moving to TN from Florida we were so excited to see a place from home. Stopped in today. Rice wasnt cooked. Family meal had smaller portions and less options than in Florida. Then condiment were more Mexican and not Caribbean. Disappointed. No serving utensils supplied for the bowls of rice beans or pork. Strange that this is what they feel is tropical food

Suurreeously? Came in one a spur of the moment thing. Wish I had spurred something else... Ordered the 1/4 chicken plate. Got some sides.. Forgettable. Chicken wasn't terrible. Sides were not good. Sangria sucked it. Glasses for sangria were super dirty. Like... Took them back and the new ones were dirty. Embarrassing as hell. Had to drink it out of the solo cups for the water. Food came up fast I guess, I think it was made yesterday so they only had to nuke it. Freakin terrible.....

Our family drives to Smyrna once a week to eat here. It's consistent and our food always arrives quickly. The chicken is tender and juicy. The corn souffle is a must! It's unbelievably affordable, and they offer many coupons throughout the year.

I been here several times the food is excellent and very reasonable. I always get a half chicken and corn souffle also the side are good too. The service is friendly and professional. Also there no tipping and free Wi-Fi what else can you ask for.

I've really fallen in love with Pollo Tropical over the last several month! Really good food at more than reasonable prices! Without question the healthiest 'fast food' meal I have on even a semi-regular basis!

Pollo Tropical is a great alternative to the standard fast food places. The food is fresh and flavorful with a wide variety of Caribbean themed entrees. The poyo-poyo sauce and the cilantro-garlic sauce are really delicious. I enjoyed my grilled chicken and my friend really enjoyed her soup. Some of the sides left a little to be desired. While the yellow rice, and waffle fries were good, the plantains were a little soggy, and the bread roll a little dry. Bonus: Free Wifi + No tipping.

Oh my god, everytime I go into this place I get more excited about caribbean food. My favorite is the boneless chicken with 2 sides. Yellow rice and Black beans count as one side which is awesome. I always have a hard time picking my 2nd side, I have tried their caesar salad (not great, who eat caesar salad @ a caribbean place). Today I tried the Yuca, it was great. The bone-in chicken was good but not as great as the boneless. My friend got the chicken salad and he says he will buy their stock from how good their food is, both taste and health. What's funny at this place is that they give you a beeper when you order... but as they give it to you it starts beeping. Overall this place is very delicious, Ton of flavor... what do you want more. Definitely will come back here again.

It's a fast food restaurant but you're seated like a sit down place. No big deal, just means you have to wait a bit. The place is relatively new so it was packed when I went. This is the only tropical style food in an area full of your run-of-the-mill american fare, so it's expected that they're garnering so much attention. The food is pretty good too so that helps. I had basically the sample platter, getting the the quarter chicken, riblets, and pulled pork. All of it was really good, but my eyes were bigger than my stomach! Everything was fresh and came out really fast. There is also a sauce bar so you can try different dips with your food. All in all a good meal. I'll for sure be going back to try the rest of their menu.

First time in, stopped on the recommendation to a coworker. There were 4 of us in the party and as soon as I walked in we were greeted with a friendly hello and a hostess who told us to go on to the line to order and that she'd have a number on a table for 4 waiting for us (awesome!) Menu selection was fabulous and I thought the prices were great. I had the 1/4 chicken with black beans and added a side of tostones. I really enjoyed all of the flavors, but I did find the chicken a little dry. That is the sole reason I'm at 4 stars instead of 5. I thought the tostones were perfectly seasoned. That is a dish that I love to order at Back to Cuba but I always find them to be a little bland. This was much better. They have a salsa bar where you can make selections to add to your dish as well. I added a little of the hot salsa to my black beans, perfect. This was one of the cleanest, friendliest, tastiest spots I have been in awhile. I will be happily adding them to my regular lunchtime rotation.

Good food and service. Just be sure to ask for a 1/2 service or more of chicken if you are really hungry.... Try the tostones and the garlic-cilantro sauce is amazing. And don't forget the dessert, try the Tres leches cake!!!! you will love it!

Floribbean chicken cuisine has come to Tennessee. The fresh chicken (pollo) is marinated in a fruity sauce then grilled and served including in wraps or sandwiches. I recommend dollops from the generous salsa bar since they serve their cooking mellow, not very spiced. Some folks like little spicing so they leave it up to us to add our personal degree of spiciness fron the bar, which I do in quantity. Mango iced tea, fried yuca, island-style black beans and sweet plantains help make this a cheap but good Florida / Carribean hybrid eatery.

One of the better atmospheres i have seen in a fast casual chain. The fact that it is accompanied by a drive thru is amazing considering the quality of the concept. Excellent food and reasonable prices, definitely will be back to try out other varieties.

Don't waste your time. The boneless chicken breast was over cooked and the yam side dish had no flavor. After the server brought the food to the table, he never came back to check on us.

Food was tasty and healthy. They finally have a quick service restaurant that won't give you a heart attack! This is perfect for feeding my family cheaply and healthily. Will definitely come back often
