It seems most of the reviews here talk about just the bar or the shop area when it first opened and there wasn't much going on. As of now, the shop area has a wide variety of vendors. Spices, clothing, art, Nashville made snacks and foodie products, beauty products, jewelry... There's a little bit of everything. There are things which are obviously for tourists, but plenty of normal boutiquey type items natives would want to buy as well. Prices are all over the spectrum. There are $2 items and $1000 items. Not everything is costly and most of it seems on par with other shops in the village. While some people may find the concept weird, it seems plenty of others enjoy it. There were people walking around with beers while shopping. Kind of cool. I'm not a drinker, so I can't comment too much on the bar itself. They have six beers on tap, brewed in house. (You can see the brewery from the sales floor. So that's cool too.) the people sitting at the bar seem plenty happy to be there. Some food would be good, but as it stands now, the shop itself seems like a solid space. Obviously, people who have bad experiences are more likely to post reviews. Edit- July 11, 2015- they have pizza now at the bar! Wood fire pizza and a few other similar menu items. YUM.

I had water here. The water was about average, nothing to write home about. I mean, I would have gotten something else had the server heard me when I tried to get a menu a couple of times. I also nursed the same water for a whole basketball game. Drink, then let the ice melt, then drink that, and so on, and so on. I will give them some slack as it appeared to be new and it was a full night with the final four. We, like I am sure most people there, tried Sam's first and went next door as it was less crowded. They had four craft beers on tap and several bottles of less quality beer. As a nondrinker, those didn't appeal to me. I was with someone who ordered beer and the single employee in the bar area was fantastic about keeping them coming for him. But every time I tried to get something I was ignored, whether intentionally or for the fact that he was the only employee in a full bar. I am rather glad I didn't actually get a menu. The menu is dips, not dinner. There was an employee in the marketplace area who was bored the entire time who also ran chips from the back to the bar. I didn't get to look around at the marketplace and really had no desire to do so.

we stopped by during happy hour today and also checked out the goods in the marketplace. PROS: friendly bartender, not crowded and not loud (unlike sam's next door, which i guess is the same company?), craft beers weren't super exciting, but did taste nice (we tried the totes my oats and hopsession), happy hour prices were great (draft beers were only $2 or $3). CONS: marketplace items were way over priced ($100 for a canvas tote bag? no thanks!), beer and wine list was very limited (fine for a restaurant, but i expected more since this is a "brewhouse"), and food options were non-existent. pretty much the only thing you can get to go w/ your beer is chips and dip (salsa, spinach dip, pimento cheese, or hummus). to me, this seems like a very bad business model. when i'm going out for happy hour, i want something deep fried, greasy, and cheesy to go w/ my booze (the cheesier, the better)! bring on the potato skins, mozzarella sticks, nachos, and french fries. =O i'm pretty sure this place has some type of kitchen (since it used to be bosco's). or else, if it's owned by sam's, couldn't they just make a window between the venues to pass over some plates from next door? since this place is close to my apt, i might drop by every once in awhile for a cheap beer. but they wouldn't be my first choice. and i definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come here (unless they get better food options!).

I wanted to like the Village Brewhouse and Marketplace, but it has a ways to go. I think the concept is good, but the lack of any meaningful food limits it. I know they are owned by Sam's and don't want to compete, but I don't think it will work as is. On a positive note, I had the Totes My Oats Oatmeal Stout and enjoyed it. Easy drinking stout that I would drink again. I probably would have stayed and tried one of the other beers had they had food other than chips and dips. I think if they just wanted the brewery, make the entire place stores and just serve the beer next door.

Great beer. I've tried all the local breweries here in Nashville, and I was really impressed with the lineup. My brother and I really enjoyed the rye IPA and oatmeal stout. They have a great happy hour and a unique vibe where you can check out some local artisan goods. Friendly staff too!

I planned a large group happy hour here 2 weeks ago and it was great (they take reservations!). Not a huge bar area, though, so I'm glad I made a reservation. The happy hour specials are really great and the draft beers were good (4 selections). Also the bartender was super friendly. But they could improve the food (seems like they are using Sam's kitchen?). Every option was a refrigerated dip with chips (except for the off-menu mini chili dog special). There's a pizza oven in the back (and it still kind of smells like pizza from the building's Bosco's days), they should put it to use! As for the marketplace, cute but expensive. The concept is a little strange. I can't see myself buying much there. I wish they had turned the building into a small farmer's market -- that's what hillsboro village needs!
