Place is trash. Bartender lady upstairs was a B and refused to serve me for no apparent reason other than it was her bar and she didn't have too. Grabbed a "manager" and nothing happened other than him agreeing with her without providing a reason why they wouldn't serve me.

While I am in Nashville monthly, I had never been to the Wheel. Stopped in Friday night to see a friend of mine who is a country artist Rick Huckaby. His buddy Jeremy McComb was playing. Jeremy puts on an amazing show and the Wheel was a great environment for his show. We will be back for sure!

Good news for everyone, and especially you "1" voters. The bartender you mention is no longer at The Wheel. I just had a great experience there. A perfect place for a cigar and/or a drink or two. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Nice selection of liquor there and a very comfortable environment for that relaxing cigar. I stopped in for a late night drink and a cigar. Really nice. Multiple TVs, but all picture-only. The bartender gladly changed a set near my seat to a channel I requested.

Why are there not more people here? The Wheel is right on the hear of Broadway along with a dozen other places, but it was easily the last crowded of the many bars I visited on my trip down to Nashville, even though the prices were more reasonable than at many of the places, the live entertainment was rock solid (par for the course down that stretch), and you can SMOKE! I'm not a big smoker--I can count the number of cigarettes I've had in my life on one hand--but I do enjoy an occasional cigar, and being able to go up to the second floor, purchase a cigar, and drink a rye on the rocks while listening to music was absolute heaven. If I weren't so dedicated to visiting the rest of the establishments along Broadway, I'd have stayed here all night. Next time I am in town, there's a good chance I will.

Oooh, I like divey bars, especially downtown where tourist joints prevail. Not saying there weren't tourists there, but this one was more divey and less glitzy and flashy than the other honky tonks. The bartenders behind the counter pour some mean drinks. I was tipsy in no time which is, of course, a good thing. The band was playing country, of course, which isn't my fave genre but it was good. Plus the singer in the band would ask your name when you came in and would introduce you to everyone else in the room. By name. He did that trick where he could go around the room and say everyone's name. It is a memory trick but pretty fucking good man! Just don't move tables or you'll mess it up! hehe So tip the band well because they are entertaining! Oh and this is a real dive and honky tonk, so you can still smoke inside. Don't like it? Go somewhere else and leave the real honky tonk patrons to it. Overall a fun place to catch a drink before a show at Bridgestone or just catch a drink and enjoy a festive band.

It's nice enough, bar with live music downstairs, cigar bar upstairs. We hung out upstairs and I would have like to have access to the music while sitting upstairs, like a rail looking down. Smoke DOES rise. Anyway, nice leather club chairs in cigar bar, outside patio down. $10.00 for 2 beers..yikes?

When your down in Nashville, "y'all" should check out the The Wheel Cigar Bar located on Broadway on the main strip of Downtown Nashville and across from Tootsies and the Stage. It's a great place to get away from the door to door boot stores and bars. After your initial country culture shock and getting your dose of banjos and fiddles it really is nice to find somewhere quiet. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks are inexpensive. The cigar selection is ok, but a little overpriced and could have better variety. Unfortunately, there are not as many couches as I would've liked, but you can find a seat either at the bar or several tables and high tops. It's a quaint little place that you have to walk up a brick lined stairway to get to, which I think adds to its allure. Old original wood floors and walls further give the Wheel sense of southern authenticness. Not many other cigar bars to go to in Downtown Nashville, actually it's the only cigar bar, but will definitely do.

We went upstairs to the cigar lounge and Michelle, the bartender, was awesome. So awesome that I tipped her 100% of our bill. My wife had wine and I had bourbon and it seemed inexpensive, especially for the tourist trap that is Broadway. Cigar selection is okay, but not great. The prices are slightly steep, but not outrageous. It seems to be one of the only cigar lounges in the area, so they could have you by the short hairs if they wanted. The only downside at The Wheel was a few idiots at the end of the bar making racist remarks to nobody in particular. But to Michelle's (remember, the awesome bartender?) credit, after a small confrontation with myself and a new friend, she told them to leave. Next time I'm in Nashville, I'm going back. So should you.

Felt ripped off here. Two cocktails were $16 before tip, this is not New York, this is not Chicago, this is tourist trap Nashville, TN. Will not return, do not recommend.

Cheap beer...we went to a few places downtown on Broadway while waiting on the show at Ryman Auditorium. We were on the way to see "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County" so we had some time to enjoy downtown nightlife. Tony likes this bar because it is one of the few he can actually drink at and Smoke at the same time..This is one of the bars that you can NOT take your underage children into. Some of the locations you can take minors into until 8pm (( I think that is the time frame)) There was a band there. A man and woman singer. They were pretty good. Can't remember there names but they were pretty good. Better than some we heard in other locations. The beer was cheaper here. The Budweiser was only $4.25 here where everywhere else $5 or more. All of these locations are small and narrow and they get crowded fast. But at least the crowds come and go if you sit still long enough. I would go here again! They love the Tourist here!! Remember the bands play by tips only!!!

The rude bartender lady that most of these comments are referring to NO longer works there. This guy named Hunter is working the bar now and he's pretty awesome. He seems to know his stuff and he's very friendly. I'd recommend you'd ask for a dirty greygoose martini :) he makes the best!

The Wheel is a solid choice on the strip of Honkytonks, sure its no Roberts or Layla's, but there is also no line, nearly always a place to sit and a fun band on Saturday nights; The Eskimo Brothers. Yeah, its all the typical covers, but they do it funky rockabilly style and not generic boring 'sweet home alabama' for the 40th time like at The Stage. Highly recommend sticking to booze drinks at the beer prices are high, but the well drinks are strong.

So rock me momma like a wagon wheel~ Rock me momma any way you feel~ Heeeeeeey momma rock me~ Bar hopping on Broadway in Nashville is just like bar hopping on the vegas strip - overcrowded, mostly douchey, and totally overpriced. If you're looking for a bit of a reprieve from all that madness, The Wheel may be for you. It sure was for me on a Saturday night of barhopping. I liked that my friends and I were able to get a seat and easily could order & drink our beers. I didn't like that the guys from the band (or their henchman) would come to collect money about every five minutes. The first time they went around, I supported the band. The second time, I reminded them I just put in and they said something along the lines of (but in a nicer way) so? that was five minutes ago. Blah, pressure. Other than that, I was on board with The Wheel...and their back patio!

Typically good music, like most bars on broadway, but the drinks are pricey and the service is pretty poor and very rude. Not sure I'll go back considering so many other options. Change a few bad eggs working the bar, adjust the prices a bit, and poof it could become a great place.

  • Anthony T.

The space itself is nice and the staff there are incredibly helpful. Hunter (bartender) knows his stuff and makes some great drinks. Pretty small and limited cigar selection, but they have some quality sticks. Great atmosphere for groups. First time there today and two or three bachelor parties were there, which is nice but it can take away from the relaxing atmosphere that most cigar bars promote.

  • Charles S.

The Wheel has great ambiance and vibe. The bands are great and there are plenty of drink selections to choose from. The prices aren't bad and there is more than enough fun to be had a this joint!

A fun little Nashville bar, lively crowd and great music. If you are bar hopping it is a solid place to stop in and grab a drink.

DO NOT GO HERE! We had the RUDEST woman working the counter. I didn't have a cigar, but my husband and friend were interested in getting the best of the best. They had a lot of questions, which she ultimately scoffed at and acted like they were inconveniencing her. Admittedly, they were a little drunk...but, you are located on a street full of bars!! She came over and told my husband not to curse and to "look awake." The cigar selection was decent, but the service is the worst.

I wasn't here for too long but the simplest review I can give is that one side of Broadway has the smaller yet oddly more enjoyable honky tonk bars that aren't packed to the gills and offer fantastic live music. It's easier to get a drink and dance and have a good time without being crushed. The Wheel is part of this roster of bars and is a good time for anyone wanted to experience The Stage without The Stage crowds.

Dropped in on a busy night to find this place empty and to be verbally assaulted at the door by an overly inebriated young lady. Grabbed 2 Yazoos for $10.50 , enjoyed a couple tunes (one of which seemed to be a requirement by the bar -- Wagon Wheel, also mentioned by another reviewer -- and bounced.

I don't like being tricked. And, I feel like the Wheel is up to some Happy Hour trickery. We strolled in around 4, which was happy hour based on the sign, and ordered a Bud Light. Standard happy hour choice I'd think, but the $9 cost for two suggested otherwise. Maybe it's because the bartender gave us bottles, but we'd certainly had stayed for more than one if she had made some HH suggestions. Also, during our short sit at the bar, someone walked in, sat down and waited, and then waited some more, while the bartender chatted, checked her phone, and played with aluminum foil (no joke), until he was tired of waiting and moved on. Well, Wheel, that's another way to lose business. I understand now why this is one of the least crowded bars on Broadway, making for awkward call on you requests for music suggestions by the performers (and it's hard to pretend not to hear when you're one of two couples in the bar). Get some new staff, and a real HH, and maybe you can make it. Until then, it's off our Nashville list.

Broadway can be a bit overwhelming. I was just looking for a spot to have a beer and listen to some music before my ghost tour. I luckily stumbled into this place. They had an awesome band playing, a couple of stone cold foxes in cowboy hats. I am not into country but these guys were jamming. They had the crowd feeling good and were shouting things like "Cant be bashful in Nashville" and "Holler and swaller". I was glad to see they had beer on tap as a few of the other joints I walked into did not. They had the Yazoo beer I was hoping to try and it was awesome. and $5.25 a little steep, but there is no cover to get in and it is Broadway. Would definitely go back next time I'm in Nashville.

I travel all over and this may be the worst cigar bar I have ever experienced. Small and dirty with a poorly stocked humidor and bar. Ridiculously overpriced and limited scotch selection - described by the ad as"extensive" - it consisted of three Macallans, Oban, two Glenlivets and a 10yo Laphroaig. I chose the Laphroaig - $17 for tightly measured dram. I had to point to bottle because the bartender, by her own admission, knew nothing about scotch. When questioned the price, which seemed high for such a dreary hole in the wall she responded "I don't set the prices" - charming. Seating was limited to four tables, the bar and only four cushioned chairs. AVOID.

Great selection of cigars and top shelf liquor. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about cigars and cocktails. Relaxing atmosphere. Try the Padron 1926 series smooth!!

You know what... I really enjoy going to The Wheel. I think it's an underrated honkey tonk on Broadway. The bar is narrow but large, and they always have a live band and dancing at the front. Then you can pass through the crowd up front and grab a drink in the back and have some space to move around and enjoy a slightly quieter environment. I like this bar for live music on Broadway a lot. The bands are always great, drinks are reasonable, and there's a cigar bar upstairs. What's not to like?

Good to go! Decent selection of sticks from a small humidor. Friendly bartenders , good booze. What else do you need.

  • Paul H.

I had a difficult time rating this place.... stopped in on Saturday afternoon to have a seat and smoke a cigar..... wanted a place that wasn't shoulder to shoulder and could smoke, it certainly provided that! I can't comment on the cigar selection as I brought my own being a regular cigar smoker and knowing I like premium sticks..... the bartender/server Saturday was very nice and pleasant/friendly..... there was anywhere between 10-20 people there at any time during the two hours I Was there...... alot of younger people, mostly not regular cigar smokers by my observation( but trying to impress other customers acting like they were.... I heard one young man tell a customer if he wanted to try a top shelf cigar get the Makers Mark, the best there is!! haha) anyway..... To my heart of review...... the place needs to be better cleaned and wash the windows that look out over broadway..... a smoking bar/lounge doesn't have to feel musky and dirt..... and please consider stocking premium Bourbons in a cigar bar...... otherwise, a nice stop for a break!

The Wheel is one of the few downtown bars where i feel that the all day bar flies might actually be locals who are trying to drink their woes away instead of tourists just popping their heads in. Small and unassuming, their big landing flag seems to be their love for smoking. With sings everywhere that let you know you know that it is in fact a smoking establishment, it pretty much automatically repels me. However, if you are the kind of person that the sign "let me smoke my pipe in peace" speaks to, well then you'll probably want to head The Wheel.

Horrible rude service. Don't go. Never met such a rude lady working the place. Every question I asked she would make a snide comment. Not a good experience for a visitor to Nashville.

Good spot for a cigar when in Nashville. Right on Broadway, it's an easy pop in while out listening to music. Good liquor selection and a decent selection of cigars. Mostly bar seating with only a few arm chairs but a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere given the craziness of the street outside. Courteous and knowledgeable staff as well.

This is such a wonderful place we stumbled upon in Nasville. Along this strip is all day, all night live music. At this place the band Eskimo Brothers was playing and they are what really made this place so special. Crowd was great, area to dance, and good bar service.

I second Scottie's comment "Great dive bar." I've been 3x in 3 trips to Nashville. On a Monday and Tuesday night, great music on tap all night long. The bartender is extremely friendly and does a great job considering she's generally serving 50 or so people all on her own. I'm a beer snob, but I wave that pretentiousness and I drink my Yuengling and just enjoy the the vibe and the music. I bought The Wheel T-shirt for me and my co-workers after one too many shots of jager. I have a very fond spot in my hear for Nashville and I think a lot of that is due to what The Wheel represents. Get there early if you want a seat at the bar, or a seat at all. The Wheel is pretty small compared to a lot of the other venues downtown.

I really liked the Wheel though it wasn't my favorite on the strip. It was a nice change from the divier bars, even though this is pretty divey. Nothing really wrong with it, but it just wasn't my favorite. It does have a great atmosphere and is a nice place to grab a drink and listen to some tunes.

Great bartender (or cigar tender)! Definitely worth a stop in. Very friendly and great recommendations if you don't know what you're getting into. Awesome local place to check out if you're in Nashville!

My brother & I were looking for somewhere quiet where we could take a break from the music and the crowds to enjoy a smoke. This place fits the bill. Their well stocked humidor and selection of whiskey is first rate. Our bartender was knowledgable and friendly. We stopped in for a break and wound up staying for a couple hours.

Reviewed from a tourist's point of view. Visited on the weekend of 9/24/10: Fun little dive bar on the strip of NashVegas, as my girlfriend, a native of Nashville calls it! The hubs and I were being escorted around the city by our 2 friends who live in Nashville. We ended up here for some drinks and more country music. the band members immediately spotted us and mentioned that because we didn't seem like locals (Miami people stick out like a sore thumb just about everywhere that's not Miami, beginning with our yearly tanned skin), we'd get to choose the next song! That made us feel geat, except that my knowledge of country music sadly extends to Garth Brooks, Shania Twain (who I recently found out wasn't actually considered country), Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton, Willy Nelson and Keith Urban. I safely chose Willie Nelson, since it seems he is a local hero. We drank some pretty decent drinks, listened to the live band, and hung out for a while. If visiting Nashville again, I'll stop by this Honkey Tonk once more!

Disappointed. Staff behind the bar had a horrible attitude. Saw them kick out two customers for doing little more than not knowing what cigar they wanted. Saw a bouncer shove one guy down to ground who was drunk but absolutely non-confrontational or aggressive. I will NEVER return.

We have been coming here for years to listen to music. We heard some old country, it was ok and the band was pretty good. Beer is cheap and the people are friendly.. stayed for a little while--was part of our bar hop..

The Wheel always brings a smile to my face. It's reliable for being clean and bright. Because it is shaped rather oddly- long and narrow, not really the best venue for music listening- it'll never be my first choice, but it'll do in a pinch. The musicians that play here are generally pretty good. I wish they would hire more female entertainers; I've rarely seen female-fronted bands in there. Perhaps I haven't been in on the right night. Also, the sound is not that great, due to the narrow shape of the room, but that's a common honky-tonk problem. I wish they'd all adjust their sound to be a notch lower, and invest in some sound-absorbing equipment near the front of the room; where it gets blasted. However, the staff are very, very friendly. Drinks are quickly served with a smile. The bar is always clean. The bathrooms are usually clean. The crowd is friendly. There are often real cowboys in this bar, visiting Nashville, and it's fun to talk to to them. They are so very nice, those real cowboys. Sometimes, they will offer to marry you and leave this rhinestone town. :) It's a nice and reliable Nashville bar. Kind of a dependable friend. I always see locals I know here in the back tables, or joining the band up front (sometimes even myself). It's a thing.

Great dive bar. We walked in at around noon on a Saturday and the place had half a dozen souls sipping suds. And then we noticed: live music! Pardon me, I'm from Jersey, I'm used to live music being 1) on weekends or random promotion nights and 2) awful. This guy was good and he took requests, and by "took" I mean "hounded people in the audience to pick his next song." The bartender was friendly and quite occupied with hitting on two cute, other not-Southerners in the bar. But he always had a moment to come over and get us refills and joke around before we had a chance to even look up.

  • P W.

The band played great music. All the classics that I wanted to hear while drinking whiskey. There were a lot of nice girls from Louisville dancing and having a blast. The bartender was a real delight. She even acted like she wanted to talk to me, or hear the dumb stuff coming from my mouth and my polluted brain. They played "The Ride". That pumped me up. I almost shed a tear when "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" was played. I really think I would enjoy living in Nashville and going to this bar every night.

I had such a great time at The Wheel Cigar Bar last night for my bachelor party. Michelle, our server, reserved the space for us and made sure we were well taken care of. They have a great selection of cigars (I recommend the CAO Gold Churchill for $8.00) and a totally decent selection of scotches and whiskys to choose from. Out of my entire party, I was the only guy that had been there before. That's what makes The Wheel Cigar Bar a great place - it really is a hidden gem located in the heart of Broadway.

Checked this place out while in town for a meeting. With a group of 15-20 on a Tuesday & a smaller group on Thursday. The place is on Broadway upstairs from The Wheel. It's small but comfortable & the bartenders were great both nights. Booze selection was good & reasonably priced. There was a tv over the bar that shows the stage downstairs & there was a connected bar that had karaoke but I didn't check that out! Will return next time I go through Nashville.

Out of all the bars in Nashville we kept ending up here at this small bar called The Wheel. It is much more relaxed, laid-back bar than the rest of the street with a mix of age groups, great live music, and affordable drinks. Plus they make a pretty decent Bloody Mary and know what 'extra olives' means (6+)!
