This Is a stodgy yet, welcoming atmosphere that embodies the concept of the Southern hospitality, and sets the stage for a delicious get very filling evening. Our server basically pushed me into ordering their prized onion soup that was creamy and so filling that it ruined the rest of the meal. I had the simply prepared scallops that were delicious but, so rich after the soup. The sides were not memorable just the regular above average steakhouse side. I think next time I'm going to order the burger. I saw it passed me by and it looked amazing. (It is advertised as grass fed beef with grass from their farm, apparently super special )

What. A . Great. Lowkey. Spot. I have really enjoyed myself each time I have had libations and snacks at this little treasure nestled in The Hermitage Hotel. From the proper libations to the tasty appetizers, this is a great place to pre-game or conclude your evening. The staff is always efficient and friendly while the dark and moody space is perfect for many occasion. Need to host a business meeting that will impress or perhaps courting a potential mate? You'd close both deals here. Yea, I said it.

The Oak Bar is amazing. It's a tiny restaurant at the end of the hallway of the Hermitage Hotel. I scoured the city looking for a place open for lunch during the snowstorm and Oak Bar was one of the only places open. I literally took a Lyft to three different restaurants before finding Oak Bar. Everything after that was just gravy. The doorman opened my car door for me, and walked me to the door under an umbrella. The doors to Oak Bar were wide open like you were walking into a movie. I took a seat at the bar and was immediately impressed by all of their whiskey. They had a few Japanese whiskeys on their menu but they weren't in stock. The bartender did his damndest to find them for me, which I greatly appreciated. He also let me charge my phone behind the bar, which was nice. Instead, I went with the Jack Daniels Single Barrel (which is exclusive to Oak Bar). It was a fine choice. Very smooth and wonderful over ice. For my meal, I had the Wedge Oak Farm pork loin with blood orange, hedgehog mushroom and watercress. I love blood orange and I love cooking, but I've never considered cooking with it. Let me just say that blood orange and pork is an amazing combination. That alone was worth the price of admission. The pork was tender and flavored just right (though I added a shot of black pepper). Probably one of the best meals I had in Nashville. Also, as other people have mentioned, the bathroom is a surreal experience. There's a plaque on the wall that says that they restored the bathroom due to popular demand. There are green and black striped walls, a shoe shine station, a rotary telephone, cloth hand towels, and gigantic old fashioned urinals. It's just... wonderful. By far the classiest bathroom I ever did do my business in.

Hard to say what hasn't already been said. Amazing place. Great bartenders. Excellent spirit selection. They KNOW how to make a drink. I had a series of Old Fashioned's with different bourbons or Rye's. All were so great.. Just perfect in every way. Oh yeah... MENS ROOM. Go in there. Even if you're not a man... Just gotta see it!

I've been here multiple times...what can you say negative about this Nashville institution? The service is top notch. I was amused with the breakdown of scotch differences & whiskey differences to a group of fellas. Deb, the lead bartender was incredible as she calmly and effortlessly mixed with different people and personalities at the bar. We had 2 drinks each and shared a dessert. I couldn't have been more happy with everything. I'm looking forward to coming back.

Came here on a Monday at around 5pm for drinks having checked out bars local to my hotel on Yelp. Thanks guys - what a find. Happening place in the bowels of the Heritage Hotel, with a cool vibe and enthusiastic staff. Thank you so much Deb who is the absolute star bartender!! You must try 'Farmer's Daughter' which is a great cocktail. As it's Nashville, they had a whole page of the drinks menu is devoted to Whisky-type cocktails. Love it love it love it!

The Oak Bar is a charming and classic way to either begin or end an evening. They boast an impressive cocktail menu as well as an extensive Bourbon list (along with any other spirit you desire)...prices are more than fair for the selection and ambiance. I have yet to saddle up to the bar, but the table service is warm and inviting. As others have mentioned it is worth sneaking a peek in the mens room, though the ladies is also lovely. My only complaint, and I realize this is petty...but the last time I visited, there were obviously several proms going on and there were teenagers everywhere! I'm sure I would have loved having coffee in such a nice place at that age, but it kind of ruined the experience for our table. We were constantly bumped into by the overcrowded table of kids next to us. I am just a bit surprised the bar (which at one time didn't allow women) is not 21 up. /old lady rant. I very much look forward to my next (non-prom season) visit!

Ahhh.... Champagne! Boyfriend and I ended up here for NYE after devouring Tin Angel's delicious fare. We were looking for something to fill the empty hole that opened up when we left New Orleans and had to say goodbye to the Sazerac in the Roosevelt. Luckily, we made our way to the Hermitage with an hour and a half to spare until 2012! We sat down and enjoyed a couple of perfect beverages. We each had an Irish coffee and a glass of champagne. I'm no champagne connoisseur, but that was one impressive Irish coffee! It was strong and eye opening, and absolutely one of the best I've had. The service was also impeccable. The waitress was not on our heels every five seconds, but she certainly was attentive and friendly. I also enjoyed that it was a classier establishment, since we were pretty dressed up and looking for a low-key evening with a fancy cocktail. The Oak Bar was the perfect place to ring in the new year, and I look forward to many more drinks here in 2012!

Interesting bar inside the Hermitage offering Southern fare as well as drinks. Most charming part? Restored men's Deco bathroom inviting men & women to take a peek at the restoration! Women, go on in!

Great bar to visit in Nashville. Creative cocktails and good vibe. The bartender was great and very attentive. Must go into the men's room, even your date! Crazy to see. Have the Jack mule, a Moscow Mule with Jack Daniels single barrel instead of vodka. They have their own barrel on Jack at the bar!

One of my favorite places to grab a cold drink and a great sandwich for lunch or after a long day. The history o the place is just as rich as it's offerings.

The Oak Bar has excellent drinks, and a very cool vibe. Took the wife here and we had some great libations, her's made with absinthe, and the rest of the night was interesting! Very cool ambiance, and "prohibition" feel of the 20s-30s. Neat Men's restroom also. The service... could have been better. I felt like my wife and I were just in the way the whole time. We were definitely served, but I almost wondered if the bartender wasn't excited to have the bar space back after we left. Overall, decent experience. We would go back for the drinks/food/atmosphere.

Are the drinks expensive? Yes. But at the Oak Bar you feel like you are somebody. It's old-school, and charming, and big-money all rolled into one. It's definitely worth checking out. It's a neat Nashville landmark, it's worth the splurge.

Not many places are mostly hyped because of their bathroom. However most places are Oak Bar. Located in the nicest hotel in Nashville, Oak Bar is much more than just a fancy bathroom. Their staff is very warm and accommodating. The bartender was super knowledgable and made a great Manhattan. My friend and I discussed their selection or whiskey, we were quite impressed. The bathroom is just a novelty. People come by to check it out, including women. It's a Art Deco bathroom, and is the nicest bathroom I've been in. However it's like saying the nicest sewer, it's still a bathroom. I'm the end it's a nice place to grab a cocktail or two.

I love the ambiance in the dining room at The Hermitage Hotel's Capitol Grille, but I've found the food there to be very inconsistent and overall not worth the $$$$. So last night, not wanting a heavy dinner, but hoping for a slightly swanky pre-opera experience, we dropped into the Oak Bar. Easily one of the classiest bars in Nashville, the Oak Bar is still friendly and welcoming, not stuffy. We're not really drinkers and I didn't want to fall asleep in the Opera, so we didn't imbibe, but the wine-by-the-glass prices seemed reasonable. The one server seemed a little overwhelmed by the crowds, but she was still friendly and did a great job in getting us out the door in time to make the opening curtain. The food? The shrimp cocktail was only pretty good, but the club sandwich (hold the cheese) was amazing. My wife and I agreed that it was probably one of the best club sandwiches we've ever eaten and she's kind of a club sandwich connoisseur. What's even better? I like restaurants (or pubs) that go the extra mile. Without any prompting on our part, the kitchen split the sandwich onto two plates and heaped each plate with some of the most delicious, crispy, best-seasoned french fries that I've ever eaten. I was slightly heartbroken that I had to leave some of the fries in our haste to make the opera. What's even betterer? The price points here are much more gentle than the Grill next door. (Of course, the Grill doesn't have patrons shouting and clapping at a televised football game...) Be aware that seating is first-come-first-served. If you come at a busy time (like we did), you'll need an eagle eye to swoop in and grab a seat before someone else (probably a tourist) snakes it. Hope to visit again soon, preferably at a slightly less busy time when I can leisurely savor every single one of those herbed fries.

Popped downstairs here recently to grab a drink before a wedding ceremony upstairs began. Very happy with this choice! You get what you pay for here. I can only comment on the phenomenal drinks they prepared as I did not taste any food items on the menu. The atmopshere definitely speaks to a more upscale night out. Being a bit frazzled before the wedding, Joe (who was working the restaurant section) took my belongings and put them in coat check and then proceeded to move them to upstairs coat check where actual wedding would occur. My friend left his wallet in his car and Joe called Valet and had them retrieve and bring downstairs to us-top notch service and very unexpected. There really isn't enough time to tell you what a joy Amanda the bartender was. Very informative, sweet and fun! She had a wonderful sense of humor and was able to pick us drinks based on our likes. I had the dreamsicle (loved). Great place to have a quick drink before an event or night out!

Well... I don't have the fondest memories of this place, because once I had too much to drink, made a complete ass of myself and ruined what should have been an amazing, wonderful romantic night with my wife... However, that being said, it is a beautiful bar, and the people behind it really know what they are doing. Stick to the basics, like Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, Martinis, and the like. It is a cramped space; I don't think I've ever been in here when it has open seats so if you can't get a table, you'll be bellying up to the bar or standing in the middle of the room. But it is a splendid room and has the classiest men's room in the entire history of human civilization.

Highly recommended--especially if you can get there before 7pm when the happy hour dining specials end. The deviled eggs and bologna sandwich were excellent. Just sit at the bar, that's what I did. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. They have an incredible Jefferson Reserve bourbon there that is fantastic.

I had heard such good things about the Oak Bar, but I am sad to report that it's not worth your time, and at their prices, certainly not worth your money. So many other restaurants in Nashville offer what they're doing here (and more) at a much better quality and lower price. The highly touted double patty burger was confusingly disappointing. How is it possible to make two local beef patties, Benton's bacon, white cheddar, and mustard so flavorless? Hello, salt and pepper. The worst part of it was the soggy melt away bun. After about a minute, I was basically holding two beef patties between my fingers. You need a more substantial foundation to handle a burger of that size. The service also was pathetic. Our server demonstrated a lack of basic attention to detail (e.g. pre-bussing, refills) and limited knowledge of the limited menu, confidently making things up when she didn't know the answer. For example, we asked what the sweet sauce was on the plate of fried green tomatoes. She said it was grease that ran off of the tomatoes, and that sometimes they don't drain them out of the fryer well enough. After another look at the menu, we realized it was pepper jelly, not a sloppily executed oil slick. But thanks for throwing your chef under the bus. If you're staying at the Hermitage Hotel and it's raining outside, I'd recommend grabbing a cab and going somewhere else.

How have I not rated this place. It is my favorite place to grab a drink for the past couple of years and excels in every category. The atmosphere is perfect for a nice relaxing drink and you never have to worry about the likes of "vandy kids", "hipsters" and "try to hards" that burden the majority of other nice places in Nashville. The food and drinks are amazing! I have had every craft drink on their menu over the years and their food as well (note this is for the oak bar menu, not the capitol grille menu) and it is always unique and perfect. The staff truly are top notch both in their service, personality, and overall quality. Very few places give the vibe of the entire staff actually caring about you and enjoying their work, everyone here does. I can't say enough good things about it and recommend it to everyone. My only complaint is that there isn't very accessible parking and trying to get to it between 3:30pm-6:30pm is very difficult with all of the traffic if your office isn't downtown/in walking distance; and unfortunately, they only offer Valet if you are staying at the hotel.

The decor and ambiance are quite nice and the service was fine but for the prices, the food should have been better. We had the fried green tomatoes, I had the roast beef sandwich, and my boyfriend had the burger. I'm giving it 3 stars because the drinks were good and the happy hour deal was good, but the tomatoes were soggy and the roast beef had no flavor. The beef was chewy and bread wasn't anything to write home about. Plus they were stingy with the horse radish. For $15 I expected more from my sandwich. With that said, my boyfriend LOVED his burger. I had a bite and it was amazing. So if I were ever to come back here I'd just skip the other stuff and go straight for the burger.

What do you do when you your car is valeted for the evening and you just want to relax? Go to the bar in the basement, and drink! The gentleman who checked me in told me about the bar in the basement, and I told him after I got situated in the behemoth of a suite I was in, it was time to go exploring around. After going to the basement and realized THAT was the wrong floor (sorry room service!), I pushed the next button, and it looked like I had arrived. Now, I had kept hearing about the famous men's restroom ( nbcnews.com/id/30476750/… ), and I think I had finally found them. So before I even sat in the bar, I went creeping around. I wonder if the women's is just as cool? I didn't check out, so I guess I will never know... After play time in the bathroom (more like picture taking and shoe polishing), it was time to check out the bar. There was a restaurant right next door, but I wanted simple eats and drinks. I walked right in, and looked for a seat facing the TV. The décor was dimly lit, with candles on each table- and a room/cave covered in oak. The seats were all dark leather, including a few love seats as well. Very intimate- and great for a 1man drinking/eating excursion. When one of the servers came up to me (who was dressed in a plaid shirt and colored jeans), I told her I was ready to eat and drink. So I browsed through the menu. While I was looking, I noticed two things- they had 4 house made sodas (why cannot I NOT remember what they were? ugggh), and a happy hour every day. Also, they had a decent bourbon selection. Another special note is that they have their own barrel(s) of Jack Single- the cream of the crop in the JD family. I thought that was cool! I started off with Makers/coke, then worked my way down the list. I also got a pimento cheese and fried green tomato sandwich, with fries. When that came out, my mouth was watering. The bread was thick, the tomato fried perfectly, and the cheese gooey. Even the skinny fries were good. I kept throwing back the most random drinks possible, and then it was last call. I got some kind of drink with blood orange syrup and vodka- it was a great way to end the night. Thankfully all I had to do was take an elevator up to the 8th floor because I was almost stumbling! I thoroughly enjoyed this place, from the relaxed atmosphere, to the old guy with the escort in the corner, I had a wonderful time and will surely check out this place again when I am in town! Cheers!

Great happy hour with good service. The lighting and aesthetic are nice, but also feel like you're in a law or accounting firm in the 80s, certainly serving to its boisterous clientele. If you're a guest in town like me, definitely check out the hotel while you're there, which is beautiful.

Definitely come here for a bit of history and to check out the amazing Art Deco men's room (even if you're a lady). The deviled eggs and fried bologna were amazing... as were the shoestring fries that came with my burger. Service was decent. They also have a great selection of liquors and drinks.

The Oak Bar is a fantastic experience! It's tucked away beside the Capitol Grille within the Hermitage Hotel, and has an old school vibe where I feel like I've been transported back to a different era. I love the decor and the staff is extremely friendly. This is a staple spot pre and post any TPAC performance, and is often crowded with ballet or opera goers. I really like the unique cocktails, and they are very stiff as well! They have a menu with small bites that you can order at the bar, and they smell fantastic though I can't speak from experience. Next time I'll have to give them a whirl! I'll be back here for a night out but wouldn't be a regular since it's somewhat touristy and a bit expensive on the cocktail price. Plus its a place where you would feel more comfortable dressed up. But I'll be back when I'm gussied up for a night on the town or after a visit to the Nashville Ballet!

We had a drink here on New Year's Eve after dinner before retiring to our room at the Hermitage Hotel. Mine was delicious (and my husband enjoyed his as well). It was definitely busy so we didn't get the best service in the world, but that is to be expected on NYE. Overall, great drinks and a really cool atmosphere made it a fun stop for our night.

The best thing I ate on my whole trip was the Fried Green Tomatoes at The Oak Bar. Amazing! I also had the Roast Beef sandwich w/ Fries. Very good. A great quiet place to have a late dinner away from the hustle and bustle of Broadway.

Outstanding atmosphere (love the alcove to the left of the bar) with outstandingly simple free bar mix. Great staff, great history (just ask them) and an outstanding setting (especially at Christmas). Go! Enjoy!

Ate here with my visiting parents tonight. Being vegan, I ordered the farm salad without cheese. I really wanted some of the Brussel sprouts side so I ordered it. The lovely waitress asked if I was vegan - perhaps because I asked to hold the cheese on my salad - and said she'd ask the cook to hold the butter they cooked the sprouts in. I thought that was quite nice of her to do. All in all the salad was very fresh and tasted amazing. My mom had the chocolate creme brûlée. She wouldn't recommend it - says it taste a bit like chocolate pudding.

Nice bar area for a drink and apps. I got a bologne sandwich which was boring but that was my fault for ordering it. my date got the fried green tomatoes and something else that i forget. she liked it. (super cool bathrooms). i would go back for a full meal to see what they can do but i doubt i'll be back in nashville anytime soon.

Enjoyed a jacks mule and the atmosphere in the hotel lobby. Fabulously elegant! Men's room is art deco tile with beautiful fixtures. Great experience and one that Nashville locals are rightfully very proud to show off.

Lovely. Old School. A perfect way to start or end your evening on the town. We stopped into the Oak Bar the The Hermitage Hotel and I never wanted to leave. Dark, intimate, just the way a bar should be. I loved that we were able to grab a small table with leather chairs along the wall. Our server was there in a second, took our drink order and was back just as quickly with our drinks. My favorite parts? The cloth drink napkins. And the fact that the mixers come in separate mini carafes for you to customize your cocktail just the way you like them. And you must check out the men's room. Yes, ladies. They will let you in for a look for this was a part of the hotel from the art deco period that was never re done in the remodel. Since the bar used to be a men's club- the men's bathroom has many of the original fixtures including a shoe shine stand. It is also purported that there is a secret tunnel that goes from there to the Capital building used during Prohibition. Rumor? Maybe, as I saw no sign of it when I was surreptitiously checking out the digs . . .but maybe it's there .. . .maybe. Our server, Zach, was great. This guy knows his bourbon and his whiskey. He even was able to steer us toward some local distilleries if we were so inclined to pursue it even further. Of the same genre as the Drake Hotel bar in Chicago, this intimate bar is at the top of my list of must see's while in the Music City!

Not wanting typical bar food for lunch, we ventured into The Hermitage because it was more upscale. It was CMA week, however, and the Oak Room was packed and understaffed...... only one waitress. After a bit of a wait, we found room at the bar. Once seated, service was prompt. My flank steak salad was moist and yummy and I loved the chopped egg, blue cheese and avocado that accompanied it. Bartender accommodated our tv preference which was nice because French Open was on. My husband was impressed with their wine selection, and wanted a second glass of wine, but bartender disappeared after we were served and place had emptied out Also, his burger was dry and ketchup wasn't offered, Otherwise, I would have given 4 stars. However, it was an oasis of civility in music city.

I have been here on nights that I would give this place 5 stars. It looses one star for inconsistency in staff quality/knowledge. There is one waitress with an attitude and missing a few brain cells. Otherwise the happy hour has delicious appetizers at crazy good prices. The HH drink list only has liquors listed so you need a helpful/knowledgeable bartender if you don't know what you want. The atmosphere is classy but not pretentious. The regular menu is quite pricey ($10-15/drink) but definitely worth it if you have the money.

Horrible service - went for cocktails before dinner and got 2 of 4 drinks prepared incorrectly, overcharged for 5 drinks when ordered 4, and late waiting for someone to correct the ticket. Disappointing.

We came for happy hour which has fabulous prices, by the way, but it made our finding a seat a little difficult. We persisted and after a few moments, something opened up at the bar. We were greeted warmly and promptly after sitting down. We had never been to the fine state of Tennessee and were close to virgins in the ways of Bourbon and Whiskey. The exceptionally knowledgeable bartender helped my husband find a few to try based on his likes of other drinks and explained to us the difference in how they are made, vary from state to state and why the ones we were trying were so unique. It was a fun experience and we got to try some great drinks too. I tried the house sodas, both the cucumber/ginger/mint and the blood orange soda were amazing and sans alcohol. Loved them! Happy hour food also spectacular- we suggest the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes and the brisket on a biscuit was also good- but a bit too fatty and grisly for my taste, even though it is brisket. The ambience is relaxed, nice mix of uppity hotel patrons as well as some younger Nashville natives. It's wooden charm and warmth make it an excellent place to have a drink and bite to eat.

Not our traditional Capitol Grille experience. Initial bar tender was not warm and welcoming! Arrived around 8:30... She stated on many occasions to be the "original", Capitol Gille. Atmosphere as not desirable :(

Last night's trip to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center was accompanied by a new tradition for me which involves a pre-(or post.. or both) show cocktail at one of my absolute favorite bars in town, The Oak Bar. If you are looking for a swankier place to unwind, where one can actually hear a conversation, while kicking back and relaxing with a wonderful cocktail or glass of wine- a stop into the Oak Bar is a must! Inside of the most beautiful building in town (seriously ya'll.. The lobby of the Hermitage Hotel is a site that cannot be missed), and not to mention Nashville's only 5 star hotel, is one of my favorite places to do just that. Great food, wonderful drink and wine list, a comfortable yet gorgeous atmosphere, and fabulous service are just the icing on the cake. Here are a couple of items that you cannot miss: The Tennessee Stack. The Oak Bar and Capitol Grill use vegetables they harvest and beef raised on a farm near the hotel itself. Not only is this one of the freshest, most delicious burgers in town, it is made with ingredients from just down the street. I LOVE supporting businesses that support local businesses. Fried Pickles. Not exactly the healthiest option.. But, I feel this tasty snack is one that especially visitors to Nashville HAVE to indulge in. Fried Green Tomatoes. See: Description for Fried Pickles. Jack's Mule. I can't express to you how much I love this drink. Served in an ice cold copper mug with Jack, Spicy Ginger Beer, and Lime. Simple, refreshing, and delicious! The Men's Restroom. Voted "Best Restroom" in the US in 2008- This beautiful art-deco style room is definitely the prettiest bathroom I've set foot in. Ladies, if you ask, you are allowed to peek in too. Happy Hour from 4:30-6:30. Drink specials and select apps 1/2 off. So, if you're heading to a show at TPAC, War Memorial, or just looking for an excuse to have a drink at a nice place in Nashville, the Oak Bar is a stop that you must make!

The Oak Bar seems to pop up in many 'hippest bar' lists of late, with suggestions that it is a hidden speakeasy style establishment. If this is what you're expecting when planning to go here, let me start by bursting your bubble. It's really quite easy to find and you can walk straight in to this quiet and dimly lit hotel bar. Sincere apologies. But wait! While The Oak Bar is not going to knock your socks off with a young, hip crowd and an edgy electro/1920s/trip hop soundtrack, it has much to offer you. A classy, refined interior filled with a classy and refined crowd who are slowly unwinding with the aid of some truly delicious whisky cocktails. A tasty bar menu. Attentive and polite staff who are more than happy to assist you if you just can't settle on a tipple. A relaxing and mature atmosphere. Well, until that whisky starts doing it's job.. The Oak Bar is a bubble away from the big city and the perfect place for an evening drink if you want to hear your companion, receive attentive service from the staff and (perhaps most importantly) enjoy sampling from a fantastic drink selection.

We stopped in the Oak Bar before the Opera on Sunday. We were dressed to the nines and the Oak Room seemed fitting. So the decor isn't much to offer, tapestry explosion BUT the bartender, Zach and the Men's bathroom is where it's at. Women are allowed in the Men's room to check it out, how cool is that? It's art deco inspired and has not been renovated. It was the only thing that wasn't touched when the hotel was redone. The bar used to be a Men's lounge. The bathroom has a shoe shine stand and a telephone. It also has a secret tunnel to the capital building. According to legend, or truth, depending on who you ask, it was used during Prohibition. I believe it because two people who worked in the capital said it was true. Zach was a great addition, he had out the Hermitage Hotel history book and was giving us all the details. Apparently quite a few music videos were filmed in the bathroom. In addition to the cool bathroom they have a decent happy hour 4:30-6:30pm Monday-Friday. We'll be back to check it out!

I had heard many great things about both The Oak Bar and The Hermitage Hotel, but had never made it down to either establishment, until New Year Eve. The first NYE in a new city, can always be challenging. Where to go? Do we eat before hand? Do we go out after? Do we try and meet up with friends? The list is never ending. Well, this year my girlfriend and I made no plans. Zip. Zero. Zilch. We just played it by ear. We ended up at Tin Angel for dinner, and decided to welcome in 2012 at The Oak Bar. What a great choice that turned out to be. I love hotel bars, especially old hotel bars, with a rich history. My favorite hotel bar of all time is the Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. The Oak Bar is now second on that list Windowless, dimly lit, intimate, impecable service, what else would you want in a hotel bar? Our impromptu New Years Even, ended up being exactly what we were looking for.

Went for drinks and apps during happy hour. Nice service and drink list. We loved the fried green tomatoes and the Ruby cocktail. Nice after work hangout spot.

Here's the skinny: you pay for the amazing quality of drink at this place, and the servers are attentive and friendly. I paid $16 for a Moscow Mule and it was delicious. But here's the strange part: I can't really speak to the environment/ambience because I've had two TOTALLY different experiences here. The story unfolds thusly: 1st experience here was prior to a Ryan Adams show at War Memorial 1.5 years ago. I walked into the darkened bar and felt immediately like I had stepped back into Mad Men-esque times. Dark oak paneling, leather chairs, distinguished Silver Foxes swirling their whiskey in highball glasses while giving me the once-over. I was in heaven. My friend and I drank in the atmosphere (with several martinis) and went on our merry way. I promised to pay this special place another visit. Fast forward to last weekend when I promised another friend THIS was the coolest little gem of a bar in town. We walk in to loud, redneck cougars lamenting their saggy necks, bright lighting, and two Snooki lookalikes who gave off the impression they had a price list for their services. Where was my cool bar with men who look like Don Draper?! I still have no idea what happened to this place, but I'm hoping it's just a grievous error and my imperfect timing.

Strong drinks, excellent fried pickles, and friendly bar keepers. Need I say more?

Still my favorite place in Downtown Nashville for happy hour or meeting clients right after work. The bathroom is still famous. It is small and cozy so if you get there too late, you won't get a seat (especially when the legislature is in town). Great appetizers in the bar and a great liquor selection. Bring your wallet but it is not over priced. I've entertained parties of 8 there on an open bar tab and the bill hasn't exceeded $300 for a 90 minute happy hour. Good selection of scotch.
