I wanted to love this place soooo bad! Came here for brunch with my wife and a friend on a Sunday morning. The Service: We arrived around 11:45am and waited in the entryway for about 20 minutes before we and others in line were acknowledged. When we were seated around 12:15pm (totally fine with the wait since this was brunch after all), we ordered our drinks. We got them in a reasonable amount of time but then waited a while to get our orders in. Once we placed our orders, we waited another entire hour for it to get to our table. Several patrons got up and left in frustration over the wait and other tables that had gotten in after us had their food out long before we did. Once we did have our food, my wife asked about the appetizer we ordered and if it was still coming. Our server told us no because the fryers were down. But, she gave us an order of chips and queso on the house for it. Our server was only one of two employees I could see running the place, so obviously there was a staffing problem that day. She was incredibly sweet and assured us that they're not usually this "off". The Food: I ordered the heart attack burrito and it was good, but not great. I was also disappointed in the chorizo. It looked and tasted like kielbasa instead of how the rest of the world serves it, crumbled and cooked like ground beef. I ate half of it only because it was so freaking big. I was so hungry by the time I got it though, I can't even really critique it properly. The Drinks: I ordered the mimosa. It was a seriously tough choice between that and the BLT Bloody Mary, but I think I chose wisely. At first, I was a little disappointed in the size of the glass. It was a stemless wine glass, so maybe 8-12oz worth of a drink? Not much. However, I soon realized that the Orange juice part of the mimosa was merely splashed into the champagne for a color change. Meaning, I got pretty buzzed, pretty quickly. Which was awesome. All in all, I was disappointed with my very first visit to the lipstick lounge. However, I'm willing to give it another shot because I believe the server who told us that it's not usually that disorganized. I'll update my review next time.

Love this place. The vibe is very welcoming and unpretentious. Drinks are cost effective and the food is tasty and cheap. Karaoke is not intimidating here because people are really sweet when you make a mistake, not judgey at all.

*This review is for Brunch only* I am torn with this review because some things I really enjoyed and others weren't good. I'll break it down. The good: -Queso and Guac as a starter. YUM. Both were fantastic, and they had a decent salsa as well. - Drinks. I really liked my bubbly and elderflower liquor. However, no 2 for 1's like their neighbor Mad Donna's. -Service was on point. The bad: The entrees were not good. I've never had a huevos rancheros dish that I didn't like UNTIL I ate here. They also had a huevos themed dish with pork and a sauce that was not good either, though better than the rancheros offering. Since when does this dish have breakfast potatoes? And the beans and meat were served separately from the other with scrambled eggs. Where did scrambled eggs come from? I believe the eggs should be fried if I remember correctly. It was just odd and not at all what I pictured. Overall, it was a cheap brunch and there were some highlights, but I would order another entree.

Went in here with a group of friends and had a blast! Everyone was really friendly and they were singing karaoke. Wonderful singers! Thanks to the DJ for the 'Swirlygig'. The girls back home are going to love having a place to put their drinks on the microphone stand!

Meh. I've experienced better says it the best. My fiance and I went there to check it out. I love the decor...they have a huge high heeled shoe with shot glasses that I loved and the food was greasy, but it was unique and def. made you want to try it again! Maybe I went on a bad night, but the bar tenders were not very friendly and the crowd seemed very connected meaning that outsiders were not generally included. There were hardly any men, but I found that the girls did not really fit the stereo type of lipstick as I did not see one other girl wearing it other than myself. Of course, realize, I went one time, but would try on a trivia night or something with more of an activity to get with the crowd.

I went to the Lipstick Lounge at a quiet time, about 7 in the evening or so, and it was a nice place to get an after dinner drink. The bar staff were really friendly and I felt really welcome there. The decor is loud, but somehow it works with the interior. There are huge green stripes on the wall, which the bartender told us were lovingly painted by the owner. You can still smoke in here, even though it's a small space, so if you're sensitive to smoke that might be something to be aware of. It seems like a no pressure place. We were able to sit and have a couple of drinks and chat. I definitely want to check out their karaoke because it seems like it would draw an interesting crowd.

Within walking distance to trivia night on Tuesday. Usually pretty low key and the questions are quite hard. Staff friendly, drinks terrible, weak as can be. food, standard fried fodder. Joined some gal pals last night after 9.00pm (Sat) and paid the $5 cover to hear karaoke. Karaoke has gone to the dogs, no one is bad anymore, the true spirit is lost forever. Clearly full of regulars having a good time, nothing wrong with that.

Lipstick Lounge is always a good time. It gets insanely crowded on the weekends, and like Patrick said I'm not a fan of cover charges so I prefer week days. They have a small dart room upstairs so we like to start our nights there and move downstairs for dancing once the crowd heats up. They have periodic karaoke nights too. It's one of my favorite places to go for karaoke because they have a screen which plays the lyrics for the audience so they can sing along. Lipstick Lounge is Nashville's only lesbian bar, but you'll see way more gay men than lesbians. Of course, they welcome anyone, and you'll see a great variety of folks on any night.

Great customer service. The BLT Bloody Mary was spicy and delicious. I had the cheeseburger and was very satisfied. The Bacon on the BLT sandwich was perfectly crispy. We would definitely return if we are in Nashville again.

Met up with a few friends for drinks while they were in town. It's a fairly small bar area and it can get pretty crowded. The karaoke gets pretty enthusiastic. The appetizers were delicious and the bartenders were great. You will have to go to the bar to get your drinks (at least we did that night). Bathrooms were pretty clean. Overall great place to listen to drunk people wail their hearts out while getting tasty snacks and good drinks.

We went to the Lipstick Lounge for an UYE, a brunch, sponsored by Casey. First things, first. We had a great time! While it was a smaller turnout than expected, those of us who did make it had a ball! So, the Lipstick Lounge. We had their usual brunch menu. The table split some appetizers (bacon wrapped jalapenos with cheese, guac) which were great. I had the huevos rancheros. Other than the eggs being a little over done for over easy, it was delicious. The beans were really good. The wife got the huevo-cado. Fried eggs on an avocado with all other kinds of goodness. Also a winner. I tried the BLT bloody mary. It was just okay. It advertised a bacon infused vodka but all I tasty was the pepper. The wife had a cocktail with Elderflower liquor and champagne. She drank two of them and was ready for a third. Clearly a winner with her. I would certainly come back from brunch here. And, the next time Casey has UYE people, come out!

Service was great - the staff was super friendly. Enjoyed the decor and music. We had a group of 8 and we were sat immediately at a table inside at 1130 on a Sunday. We originally planned on eating across the street but the wait was really long there. Our entire party didn't love their meal -- a few of my friends ordered the clucking stack: chicken/French toast and were a bit disappointed with the French toast (a little plain for their taste) however, I tried their chicken and thought it was delicious. I ordered the chilaquiles: a dish with eggs, sour cream, salsa, beans and potatoes and thought it was perfect. The beans paired nicely with the eggs and the potatoes were crispy and hot.

My friends and I visited Lipstick Lounge while in Nashville for Yelp Spring Break. We loved it! The drinks were strong and cheap, and we enjoyed hobnobbing with the friendly locals. There were quite a few birthdays being celebrated while we were there, which gave the bar an festive air. The karaoke stands out as some of the best I've ever seen. Some truly amazing divas took the stage and they rocked it! The crowd was supportive and loved to dance. We had a fabulous night out, maybe my favorite of the whole trip.

I went to Nashville for the first time to visit my son. He took me to lipstick for karaoke. I had the most amazing time ever! My son had to work that night and I told him to just leave me there. He set me up on lyft (which I did not need because his amazing girl came to hang out with me) he put cash in my purse and went to work. I had the time of my life! Jason runs THE best karaoke with amazing sound. Jonda the owner is so cool and welcoming. A special shout out to the bouncer Calvin, who looked out for me all night! I met the most wonderful people and closed it down! Thank you Lipstick for showing me such a great time and I can't wait to come visit again! Love to you all!

Unofficial yelp event for brunch today. What a nice venue, great wait staff, pretty sure the chips are laced with something addictive-yum. Nice conversation, really good atmosphere.

Went for brunch and walked into a very small dining room with no hostess and we were never greeted. Waited for a table to clear and we just sat ourselves. Service was a touch slow, attributed to the crowd. They were out of the soup my friend ordered and once our food arrived the same friend was informed that they were also out of the meal she had ordered. So she had to wait while the rest of us ate. When her meal did arrive it was clearly thrown together sloppily. The food itself was good, but the restaurant seemed unprepared and disorganized. I'd go back but reluctantly.

Great place to hear some great karaoke, meet your friends for a few drinks, and/or meet some new ones! Now, they are non-smoking downstairs (which is where all the action happens), and serving up a pretty amazing brunch on the weekends!

Living just down the street from the Lipstick Lounge, I just had to review this place. Lipstick has a reputation for having the best karaoke in town and while I'm more of a watcher and not a participator, I think they may be right on that one. Some nights will have a cover (check their website first if you're that concerned about it), but stay for a few hours and it will be worth it. Wednesday nights are the best night to go, which include free hot dogs! I just had to include that. As far as the people go: The staff is always great here. If you ask them if it's a lesbian bar, they will tell you it's a "people" bar. Most people are queer, but don't be too surprised to find straight people here as well. I like the mixed crowd. However, I've heard it can become cliquey here and I would have to take their side. No one here is downright unfriendlly, but it's really not the place to meet or pick up someone. Catch my drift?

As a California native who frequents bars of all styles and sizes, I have NEVER felt more welcome at any bar or club than I did at The Lipstick Lounge. The regulars that attend seem eager to meet the newcomers. The karaoke is purely entertaining and the drinks are consistently above par. This East Nashville spot is a must for anyone in the area-- I know from experience that all walks of life are welcome and will surely enjoy their stay. Very impressed!

Went here After Mad Donnas. Looked a bit like a bar after good party. Only stayed for a few drinks which I did not drink but chatted with friends. Parking on the street. All servers seemed helpful. Friends say they liked the food. Bathrooms were clean. They handled our fast arriving crowd nicely. No smoking, thank you!!! Will come back and try the food as the friends say it is worth it, but again, looks like a frat house after party, BUT does not smell like it. Will review again when I come back.

Great service and food! We went for our first Saturday brunch experience today. I can say with most certainty that it will not be are last time. The food was prepared fresh and came out at a reasonable time. We had a couple of frozen beverages that were awesome. Sat outside and enjoyed just being in the hood!

What I wouldn't give for their chips and salsa right now with their housemade ice cold margarita. Since eating there I've been craving them-I could make a meal off their tasty chips and multiple delicious dips. Seriously-their dips/sauces were the best I've had in a long time. You hear about people loving Qdoba's chips, salsa, and cheese- they've got nothing on The Lipstick Lounge. I've tried there crazy queso, rojo salsa, guacamole, and avocado ranch; all but the avocado ranch I loved. The quesadilla was simple yet tasty and filling. The cheese on it was exactly what you'd want in it-nice and gooey so it's not dry. I also had their Moo Carne burrito which fed me for lunch and dinner. I've never gone there for just drinks to hang out but as it got later in the evening (on trivia night) the place began to fill up like your local neighborhood bar should. People were inside as well as hanging out on the patio which is where I'll likely sit when I head back there for brunch sometime.

As far as dives go, this place ranks highest in my dive locations. They are now NON SMOKING which is a GREAT improvement. Drinks are reasonably priced. They can handle crowds, pretty well. They do have a side patio for smokers (and it stinks over there) I have not eaten here. No plans to eat here. BUT, I do enjoy the karaoke and the game nights. Fun.. Brings in a good crowd for both. The people who come here are a good crowd, mixed, diversified, friendly. Parking in back and on the street.. I like this place!

I love the gals (and guys) at the Lipstick Lounge! They are the friendliest group of people, and Karaoke is AWESOME! They food is over-the-top wonderful and the drinks are surely never to disappoint! Go say hey to these folks, kick up your feet and stay for a while! Everyone is welcome there :)

Brunch is made with fresh ingredients. The bloody marys are fabulous - try the spicy with sriracha vodka. Our waitress, the co-owner, was exceptionally friendly! The food came in less than 20 minutes. An excellent spot for brunch!

I honestly meant to write this review a few years ago when I visited with my friend Mike for his 25th birthday. I was very skeptical at first being it is a gay/lesbian bar and was not sure how a straight man like myself would treated. I was pleasantly surprised to see I was welcomed with open arms. The karaoke was amazing! The drinks were reasonably priced. The food was quite tasty too (which is surprising for bar food). I quickly found out that because I could actually sing I was a fan favorite and the next thing you know, Mike, his other friends, and I's drinks were free. I definitely recommend this place over most in the area. The only reason I am not giving it a five star review is because parking is horrible. I had a blast guys!

Great place for karaoke! My husband and I frequent it on weekends and there is a never ending supply of great singers in the house and an occasional not so great singer to make it interesting! Every time we go the crowd is happy, friendly and fun! The service, even on crowded nights is awesome! Our favorite bartender is Dusty and he is always, always in a great mood! We've tried brunch there on a Sunday and thought it was pretty tasty, The only drawback - VERY crowded and a cover charge, but you would expect both from such a popular place.

Love this place for brunch on Saturday and Sunday! If you like Tex Mex, you'll love this place! I suggest the ebb burrito! Eggs, potatoes, chorizo, cheese, sausage, jalapenos, sour cream, salsa, onions and bacon wrapped in a huge tortilla!! Also the huevos avocados is amazing! Sundays can be a wait sometimes so I suggest you try to make it Saturday. Oh, I almost forgot the Bloody Marys! They have over different kinds of mind bending bloody creations! personally the ones with bacon are my favorite!

This place makes me so happy that I moved to Nashville. My friends and I frequented the Tuesday night poker games (no longer a thing) and Thursday trivia as well as a few weekend party nights. The service is awesome, so friendly! The food is particularly good- their beer braised chicken tacos are crave-able, and the prices and drink specials are some of the best in town. Plenty of seating, always a fun crowd and a huge karaoke play list.

Best bar in town and AMAZINGLY delicious brunch! Lipstick's motto is "a bar for people" and it more than lives up to it. The staff and patrons are so welcoming and friendly. Every time is like being with family (that you actually like and enjoy being with). I dare you to go and leave without making at least one new friend!

One of the best bars ever! Karaoke is in the blood of the ladies who opened the place 10 years ago. You never know who you might hear on their stage!

There are few reasons for me to look forward to tuesday nights but the lipstick lounge provides one major highlight. I always have a great time there. The drinks are strong...the service is outstanding. If you love Karaoke and dont mind crowds, this is the place to go. No cover on tuesdays. The crowd is very mixed too..everyone welcome.

This is a lively little joint. Lipstick Lounge is renowned for the crazy karaoke performances that go down there--some of these people are genuine karaoke stars. It's a pretty cool (relatively small) bar, and while it's billed as a lesbian hot spot, they welcome people of all sorts. Lipstick Lounge tends to get extremely busy on the weekends, and they often charge a cover. I'm not really a fan of places that make you pay just to show up, but the vibe is pretty good and the dancing is a blast. As Liz H. mentioned, they have free pool upstairs, so I suppose that makes up for having to pay a cover. With all the lovely little neighborhood bars on the East Side, you may wonder what is so unique about Lipstick Lounge. Well, I can't think of anywhere else in my neck of the woods with karaoke, and it's kind of one of those party-centric bars where everyone's always having a good time. Drink selection is average at typical prices, and the staff is very nice. Worth checking out.

You know after reading all the reviews I should not have been surprised by my disappointing experience. When we walked in there was $5 for karaoke. The woman working at the door was unfriendly and I suspect mildly restarted bc she seemed to have a problem with our out of state ids. You math is not everyone's strong point. The bar was packed and smokey to be expected but when you walk in you can tell everyone knows each other. I compared it to a gay cheers except unfriendlier. I do like the fact they have an upstairs and I love the decor" but I don't like the fact I have to pay a $5 cover for karaoke and expensive drinks. The bartenders were nice but no one seems to know of anything else going on around them. Side note karaoke is key for really good singers who don't have a record deal but need one. A little intimidating if you just wanna sing a song off key and a little drunk. It wasn't a horrible experience I've seen worse but if we come back to Nashville ille we won't be visiting the lipstick lounge.

I love the Stick. It's smoky, it's crowded, both things that I detest, but still I think Lipstick Lounge is fantastic. In case you are not in the mood for all the dancing and boozing going on downstairs, you can relax with your friends in the dart room upstairs or out on the patio on nice nights. Having been there more times than I can count, it's definitely usually packed with more gay women than gay men, as well as the always welcome straight couples, bachelorette parties, and random stragglers. Thursday nights, Karaoke is always a great time and once in a while you might even get wowed with some great singers. Fridays you'll usually be witness to a great live band and by midnight the dance mixes come on and so do the dance parties. Aside from the smoke that I detest, I'm also a big hater of their cover charge, mostly because I don't feel like I should pay to drink when I am already paying for my drinks. Their drinks are not fancy but strong, which is always my personal preference. Point: whether you are gay, straight, pink, purple, or sideways you are bound to have a goodtime.

I would just like to add FREE pool upstairs!

Great bar to have an interesting evening in. The Karaoke is no joke, there are some seriously good singers. The only complaint is that it is packed, packed, packed on most weekend nights.

    (4)
  • Peter M.

Agreed, this place is outstanding except for that it can be too crowded on the weekends. It's the kind of narrow, intimate bar with the stage in the corner that you usually only see in bigger cities. The staff and crowd are some of the friendliest in Nashville. All sorts of people mix it up here, and there are some cozy lounge kind of rooms upstairs. After the awesome karaoke they play very good music for dancing.

This is a review of Brunch at the Lipstick Lounge: If you've tried to go out for brunch in East Nashville at some point in the last year I'm sure you know how frustrating it can be. With waits over an hour and a half by 11am, going to brunch can become a fierce battle. Scheming and plotting to beat the crowd, anticipating the spot with the shortest wait time... all this can become exhausting and cause the average Sunday brunch-goer to throw their hands up and scream, "I give up." Places that I've been frequenting without a problem for the last 4.5 years now have lines out the doors. To combat the War on Brunch, some places that you would 't even think would serve up biscuits and eggs have opened their doors to the starving masses on Sunday morning. Such was the case last Sunday, after to planning to meet a group of friends for brunch at Biscuit House (finding out there was over an hour wait), and then moving to Mad Donna's (only to find out their wait was even worse). Just as were about to give up we saw a sign in front of The Lipstick Lounge announcing weekend brunch. It was an oasis in the desert of mimosas and pancakes, the coveted spot without a wait, where we were seated immediately. The Lipstick Lounge is Nashville's only lesbian bar and it's a pretty good time at night. During weekend daylight hours the place is transformed into a bustling dining room. The decor looks like a bar with high-top tables, which makes sense considering it's a BAR. The place was packed out and we were lucky to snag a table, because right after we sat down a line started forming. The brunch menu at The Lipstick Lounge is heavily Mexican-influenced. Which is fine by me considering salsa and eggs are a beautiful thing. I ordered the Killer Chilaquiles (eggs, tortillas, and salsa served together) with potatoes and refried beans. Off the bat I was disappointed: on the menu it said "Corn tortillas sautéed in tomatillo salsa, topped with eggs to order" and when I ordered this dish with eggs over easy I thought I had made a wise choice. Nothing is better than runny yolks falling over tortillas. I was bummed when the waitress came back to the table to tell me I couldn't choose the way my eggs were cooked because everything was scrambled together. I decided to go with my original order even if it meant forgoing runny yolks. The resulting dish was still pretty tasty (I love tomatillo salsa) and the eggs were light and fluffy. I wasn't a big fan of the refrained beans as they tasted like they came out of a can and were sprinkled with processed cheese that did not melt. The crispy potatoes were nice! I just wish they were a tad bit more spiced-up to go with the Mexican theme. Steve ordered the burrito special that had eggs, beans, chorizo, salsa, cheese and sour cream. The burrito was HUGE. The ratio of ingredients was great, and Steve felt it was very satisfying, but the best breakfast burrito in town is still hands-down Mitchell Deli's Sunday special. It's nice to see more places jumping on the brunch bandwagon. The more restaurants with open doors on Sunday, the less I'm going to have to wait in line. While the brunch at lipstick lounge was ok, it wasn't my favorite. Everything we had was tasty, but it wasn't mind-blowing awesome. It was a solid Mexican-style brunch without the wait. Keep The Lipstick Lounge in mind when you're driving around looking for an East Nashville spot to brunch.

Great bartenders. Great karaoke. Great bar. The regulars are friendly, the bar food is bar food, and the singing is EPIC. This is where the folks that don't want to sell their souls on Broadway and 2nd go to blow off steam. And their fireball bottle is usually encased in ice. What more could a girl ask for??

We were here on a slow night but the place has a cool atmosphere. Friendly bartender, crowd etc. good karaoke selection. I'd come back on a Friday or Saturday though when it's busy!

Oh buddy did I have a blast at the Lipstick Lounge!!! There are so many positives to this place: a patio, karaoke, Pacman, non-smoking, good service and well-priced beer. So you pay a cover to come in, it was totally worth it. There are people who can sing and then there are people like me, who can't. I did not feel unwelcomed in the least. Plus I was able to get up on stage pretty quickly. That is always a plus, we've all been to Lonnie's and we've all sat there without our name ever being called. Then the hostess sings like 5 times, Guy Fieri cuts in line and you're just super pissed and leave. So to avoid all of that nonsense head over to the Lipstick Lounge!

  • Carolyn M.

This place would get four or five stars easy but for the cover charges.

Kind of like Cheers for lesbians who are really good at karaoke. Very cool mix of people and a festive atmosphere; the fried foods looked very good. One star off b/c of inconsistent drink-making and pricing (citrus shooter cost and tasted vastly different based on bartendress).
