My husband and i got married in November, and our wedding was catered by The Chef and I. They are an amazing team that got to know us very well during the planning process. They took the time to listen to what we wanted and asked the right questions. We were concerned at first because we were on a tight budget, but they were able to work well with us. We, along with the guests at our wedding, were so blown away with the food that they made for our reception. It was a menu of fish, steak, and chicken, along with some awesome sides to go well with it. I can describe it in one word...AWESOME! A lot of our guests came to us, raving about how delicious the food was and how we made a great choice in choosing The Chef and I as our caterers. We are foodies, after all! Even my dad was convinced to try the fish...as he doesn't like a lot of foods, I didn't think he would like it, but he enjoyed it! Chef Chris and Erica are fantastic people, and everybody should go to their restaurant to try their food! It's so worth it!

I can't say enough about how much I love this place. Britton is one of the BEST servers on the planet. She makes you feel like you are old friends, even when you have just met her. Since I am in about once a week, she doesn't even ask for my order at this point... she knows! I'm not a very adventurous eater, but somehow Chris always gets me to try some new "starter". I've been turned on to things I would have NEVER eaten (Goat cheese??? Really???). It would be awesome if there were more dessert items (as some other Yelpers have complained about)..... but in the 20 times I've dined at Chef & I, I've never been disappointed.... and considering how picky I am about food.... that's a fantastic track record!

Went for the Sunday Brunch and it was fabulous. My husband and I enjoyed chatting with the Chef, Chris. The food was fantastic my favorite were the scallops, while my husband's duck was very tasty too. The over all experience was very relaxing and fun. We will be going back for the Mother's Day Brunch.

"The Chef and I" was hired to cater my company Christmas party and in short, it was an unexpected overload of fantasteeque! Honestly, I didn't know what to expect until they started unveiling the goods. I'd gone to their website earlier that day (which is relatively out-dated looking) and braced myself for mediocrity... but when the sun went down and the vittles came out, it was a totally different story! Everyone was thrilled at the spread they cooked up on site. Very creative bites with excellent presentation. The staff was also quite charismatic and a welcome addition to our party. The highlight tho was their Chocolate Covered Strawberry Injection Bar. I was so rocked by the experience that I crowned the concept king in my Holiday Booze Cruise (drink roundup) on my blog - tumblr.com/ZJNWWwDmTqQW

Stumbled upon The Chef & I when the nearby place we wanted to go to was too crowded. Did a quick Yelp search and found this 5 Star gem. So glad we did. Interesting menu. Passionate waitress. Brilliant chef.

LOVED my dinner and experience! Had the 4 course experience from LivingSocial and I will DEFINITELY be back- and soon! Not only did we have specialty meals prepared for us without having to decide what I wanted, it was EXACTLY what my taste buds were craving! And I loved getting to watch and interact with the chef as it was being prepared for me. My fiance and I loved everything about the Chef and I and we will definitely dine there again soon. The food was unique, gorgeous presentation and fun!

Truly one of the best meals I've had in Nashville. The staff was so friendly and accommodating to our wants and needs. We did the 4 course tasting which was catered directly to our tastes. I was told the normal menu changes weekly, so I intend to become a regular! And attend some of the cooking classes too.

The food here is awesome! Fresh and nutricious and you can see it being prepared which is fun. Ahi tuna on risotto w arugula was dynamite. Crispy Duck with grilled oyster mushrooms and sautéed Brussels sprouts - excellent. The drinks and desert are fun too! Check it out.

So amazing. Chef Chris is very nice. Orders Pan Seared Duck, it could be the best duck I've ever had.

Discovered The Chef & I through a Living Social deal. From the outside, it looks like just another strip mall restaurant. Don't let that fool you. Possibly the best meal we've EVER eaten; outdid our $300 steak dinner at Opryland Hotel. The atmosphere is unique and the staff are friendly and attentive. It was fun to talk with Chef Liz while she prepared a meal especially for us. We'll definitely be returning.

We had been dying to go in for so long so we finally went in for some grazing...as we always do. We were greeted very warmly and everyone was very, very nice throughout the entire time we were there. It was a while ago so I cannot remember what we ate, I just know it was all delicious. The seasoning for everything was absolutely spot on. I can't give 5 stars for two reasons....first, we didn't try a whole lot, just 2 or 3 appetizers. Second, because the owners were at a huge event for the weekend they only had 1 dessert available. :( I really need to get my butt back over there, though, I am certain it will be amazing!

A few years back I discovered the Chef and I and have now become a frequent visitor. There are few places in Nashville where you can expect a brand new twist and newly inspired menu each week! Tonight's dish prepared by Chef Cameron was a Hand-cut seared Beef Filet Tenderloin, topped with a Bleu Cheese Butter, served over an herb chimichurri purée, with sautéed cremini mushrooms, caramelized onions, and house cured bacon. Not only was this one of the best meals I've had in Nashville, but also one of many weekly inspired dishes you'll receive from their team. Also, for those of you who have a sweet tooth be sure to ask about Chef Liz's weekly creations! I can't speak highly enough about the owners, chefs, servers, and overall individually tailored dining experience. When in Nashville be sure to add this one to the must visit list! Tip: Be sure to call ahead and make reservations if you're wanting to sit at the Chef's table to get the full experience.

We used a Living Social deal for dinner on a Saturday night, but we will DEFINITELY be back and will be happy to pay full price. The food was excellent, and in contrast to some other nice places in town (cough, Flyte, cough), the portions were a good size. Seems like in general, as prices go up, portions go down - not the case here. My husband was very satisfied by his steak with a horseradish sauce, cherry tomatoes and shiitake mushrooms; it's hard to describe how it all came together, but it was amazing. I got the sea bass with a bell pepper/onion/white wine sauce, which was equally good. The appetizers were really good, too - I especially recommend the slider with brie cheese on a crusty bun! Modern interior, friendly staff. We didn't sit at the bar, but you can sit there and watch the chefs prepare everything, which was pretty cool. They were chatting with some of the people at the bar as they cooked; we'd do that next time. The restaurant looks small and not-too-enticing from the outside, but give it a chance! We've lived in Lenox Village for 3 years and had never tried it (mostly because we thought it was going to be over-priced - wrong!), but we're already planning to bring friends there.

We were invited to a graduation dinner here. It was cute inside with a snazzy laboratory feel. Sunshine was helpful explaining the menu choices and attentive. The food was cooked fresh but took a long time while everyone chatted and told stories. Good sound system. A lot of the party's menu contained goat cheese. The arugula salad was ready and had a tasty sweet balsamic dressing with feta cheese and freshly sliced green apples. My medium steak was a little dry in some areas and the potatoes were a little burnt. My ultimate favorite was the creme brûlée but was tiny. We didn't have to wait for it. When we were finishing up, patrons were welcome to sit at the bar where the cooks were.

I received an e-mail from Living Social a week before Valentines Day about The Chef and I. I read the offer very closely, twice, looking for any exclusions about Valentines...couldn't find any. It looked like a great place to try and my girl friend loves watching cooking shows...so it seemed like a win. When I call to make a reservation, I'm told that the Living Social offer isn't good on Valentines Day, even though the online Living Social offer carried no such exclusion. I feel tricked. The Living Social offer came out 1 week before Valentines Day...of course I bought it to use the Day. Now I'm stuck with a voucher to a place I don't trust.

Amazing! My husband and I live close by and have been meaning to check this place out for a year now. Finally we made it in on a Friday night. We sat at the bar in front of the chefs and we're super pleased. The restaurant itself is rather small but cozy enough. The cocktail menu is rather interesting. I tried a cucumber martini of sorts. It was delicious! However, the drinks are all around 10$ each including beer. The menu is ever changing with a few things that stay the same from week to week. The chef told us to check out their Facebook page for an updated menu each week. I had the shrimp and grits (delish!!). My husband had the pork tenderloin with butternut squash. Again, his was amazing also. The chef also let us taste a few things that he was preparing for others including brisket, lobster mac & cheese, and a few others. Everything was very very good. I would recommend going and sitting in front of the cooks instead of a regular table. I don't know if we would have had as much fun otherwise. Definitely a must try! We will be back for sure!

This is the best place to eat in South Nashville. It is a cut above nearly everything around. My wife and I go there as often as we can. If you are looking for fantastic food and a great staff, look no further.

Disappointed is the word to summarize my experience. I had seriously high hopes for this place based on reviews. I really wanted to join the masses and write a glowing recommendation. The experience itself was really nice. Great people. Friendly staff. It was cool sitting at the chef counter and watching the food being made. Overall I love the concept. My issue was with the food. It was "fine" until my entree. I got the steak medium rare and it came out medium well, covered in a peppercorn sauce, which was way, way too sweet and too spicy. I literally couldn't taste the beef. All I tasted was bad sauce. Also one of the chefs used the same cutting board for resting my meat as they did cutting chives and raw pork, which bothered me from a sanitary perspective. The dessert again was "fine", but overall I was not impressed. I'd come back because of the people and drinks but not for the food.

Went in and had the $75 chief sampler- which is basically a bunch of all tapas well crafted. I will say the tapas were very well done- excellent presentation. Was it worth $75? Hmmmmm..... I didn't leave hungry but I wasn't full either. I suppose the 5 uniQue cocktails I had helped. Cantaloupe & bourbon.....interestingly though it seemed to work. I really enjoyed this place and the service was great. Sit at the bar so you can watch the chief prepare..... Kinda like sitting at home watching the Food Network.

The Chef and I catered our wedding in August, and they did a fantastic job. We were impressed with every aspect of our experience with them, including: PEOPLE: From the initial tasting/consultation to the actual event, everyone there was a pleasure to work with. Carol did a great job explaining everything to us, answering our questions, and making recommendations for our menu and the logistics of our event, not just when we were initially choosing a caterer, but in the months between that point and the actual event. She was personable and always very responsive. The manager and the servers who worked the actual event were all very nice, professional, and good at their jobs. They even went out of their way to help one of my guests find the menu items that fit her dairy and soy free diet. Also, the team was more than accommodating in working with us in a non-traditional situation. Our venue had an in-house caterer, so while they did allow outside caterers, they wouldn't allow them to set foot in the kitchen. The Chef and I therefore set up in a small tent outside the building, and even with this inconvenient setup, the team never complained and everything went off without a hitch. TASTING: Our tasting with The Chef and I was one of the best parts of planning our wedding! We met at their restaurant in Lenox Village, and chef Peter cooked everything right there in front of us! As we stuffed ourselves, he talked to us about what ingredients he was using and how he could modify the dishes to suit our tastes. The team was more than happy to accommodate any changes we requested to make our wedding meal truly our own - a different cheese on the salad, different type of pasta in the mac and cheese, etc. FOOD: I'm a bit of a foodie, so having exceptional food at our wedding was non-negotiable. The Chef and I certainly did not disappoint, and our guests all raved about the meal! We had 3 passed appetizers, and instead of a plated meal, we chose a buffet-style "stations" dinner. The caterer set up 3 stations - chicken and waffles with butternut squash and green beans as sides, mac and cheese bar with tons of toppings (including candied bacon and shredded crabmeat), and shrimp and grits station with a strawberry salad and steak sliders as sides. Every single item was delicious. The Chef and I cooks everything on site instead of cooking it all at the restaurant, transporting it to the venue, then reheating as some caterers would. If an item is getting low during dinner, they cook more on site to replenish it rather than cooking a ton initially and trying to keep the replenishments warm in the back. This means everything was super-fresh and hot. The food not only tasted great, but was also presented very well. Some caterers serve buffet-style meals in big metal schaffing dishes, but the Chef and I served everything in pretty bowls and platters. PRICE: We looked at several different caterers, and the Chef and I provided the best value for the price. We feel that we got a ton of food for what we paid! I would highly recommend the Chef and I to anyone looking to have a great meal catered for a wedding, corporate event, or party. We couldn't be happier with our choice.

Went here for Sunday brunch not having any idea what I was to expect. Strictly went because was in the area and used yelp to find lunch. Wow what a pleasant surprise! Let me first say that I do not normally spend 35.00 per person for Sunday lunch but I will say I didn't care because it was worth it! Had a 4 course meal that was prepared in front of us while sitting at the bar area near the open kitchen setup. The Chefs were very interactive and and service was great. Between us we had the Sea Bass, Duck and Ahi Tuna. All were incredible! The other 3 courses were equally as good. Look forward to going back again and seeing what is offered as the menu changes weekly I believe. One of the best meals I've had in a long time!

Awesome, awesome experience!! Worth the trip out to Lenox Village. The taquitos and the goat cheese appetizers were both amazing. Make a reservation and sit at the show kitchen. The chefs were awesome-friendly, funny, and capable of whipping up a gourmet dinner for u while chatting it up. The wait staff was phenomenal as well!!

My husband and I purchased a LivingSocial deal and were so excited to dine at The Chef & I after reading the fantastic reviews about what a great experience it was to have the chance to interact with the chef and see your food being prepared. I e-mailed with Britton (per the instructions on the voucher) two and a half weeks in advance to make a reservation and specifically requested a space at the chef's table (only about 8 customers can sit so they're actually interacting with the chef). When we arrived, there was no record of our reservation and we were told that there weren't any spots at the chef's bar for the rest of the night. The hostess was rather unapologetic, even after we showed her our e-mails with Britton creating the reservation. We were seated at the opposite wall from the chefs in a manner that could not be described in any way as interactive. The food was good, that can't be denied; however it was so far from the interactive meal that is showcased in their reviews that we were very disappointed! Summary: Food was good but not worth the price if you're not sitting near the chef and their customer service could use some work!

I'm not sure why this restaurant doesn't have more reviews written about it than it does. I love trying new restaurants and I've tried many of the "best" in Nashville. I've spent a lot of money in restaurants that were rated very high, and even though I've had good experiences in them, The Chef and I exceeded them all. To me, it felt like a very laid back, friendly (and accessible) version of The Catbird Seat. The food was equally (if not more) delicious and by the end of the evening, I felt that my guests and I had become friends with Chris. He was working by himself, with a hurt hand for part of the evening, and didn't even seem the least bit stressed. He was thoroughly enjoying himself and engaged all of the people in the restaurant. The food was beyond delicious. Unlike anything I've had before. My guests and I were full for 2 days after our dinner. Thank you, Chris for being so friendly and accommodating. We will be back again!

Just got back from an evening cooking class with the gang at The Chef and I. We purchased this for my daughter as one of her Christmas gifts. According to her this was her favorite gift of the year. Even better than an iPhone 6. Take that Apple!!! All kidding aside, the evening was great. We were able to cook and learn new recipes with Chef Liz and the service provided by Sunshine was just as fantastic. I've come to expect nothing but greatness from this place and tonight was no different. Chris and Erica have bottled magic and it's on display at The Chef and I. Whether you want a romantic dinner for two, dinner with friends or cook with the chef, this is the place to do it. Treat yourself to the best!

Quite easily one of the best restaurants in Nashville. Once you walk in, you can tell that this place is not like most. "Chef and I" lives up to its name. We say at the "kitchen bar" and were so glad we did. The chef and sous are cooking in sight of all the patrons. They are hilarious and have great personalities. The menu is ridiculous (good). After watching all the meals being expertly prepared and toiling over the menu for ten minutes, we had finally decided. Chef Chris made me fall in love with duck again and the filet was to die for. Definitely a repeat performer. Service from our waitress was extremely lacking, but the attention from the front-end manager, chef, and sous made up for it.

So, I really don't want to put this review out there because I know that this will only increase traffic and make getting a table more difficult, but for respect to Chef Chris, I must add my two cents. This was one of the greatest meals I've ever had. Period. The smoked duck amuse buche free starter was so good we ordered more. Amazing hickory flavor! All the appetizers were intense favors . We had the meatballs with lamb and a balsamic glaze, incredible. I ordered the seared duck breast over butternut squash grits, a revelation. Unreal. Best grits I've ever had. There was not a dirty plate amongst the four of us. We actually had to order bread special to sop up the sauces and left over juices. Two words: amazing, amazing!

So after much searching, my fiancee and I found the Chef and I. So, in need of a caterer for our wedding reception we thought we would give them a chance. I am speechless... This husband and wife catering business is amazing. Chef Chris and Erica (the Chef and I respectively) take the time to ask you the right questions and listen carefully to what you, the client, want on your special day. We were blown away with what they came up with for us for our wedding reception on a very tight budget. A delicious menu of steak, fish and chicken with the fish and steak based of 2 of my very own recipes. Seriously, they really know how to get inside your head and dig around to find out what you like and what you don't like. The creativity they have is amazing, as everything we have tried both in their "Getting to Know You" gatherings and our own menu tastings has been absolutely delicious. And like me Chef Chis is a cheese addict who works magic with any food he gets his hands on. I hope to take my fiancee to their new restaurant in February for Valentine's Day.

My boyfriend and I have lived in Nashville for about a year and have always talked about going to The Chef &I... well Saturday we went and had an AMAZING experience! We sat at the bar so that we could enjoy the full experience by watching how the chefs prepared the food and getting to interact with them as well. We wanted to try everything so we decided to split the $75 Chef experience, which is 8 course tapas style.(small plates) We were planning to get something else if we weren't full after that.. we ended up being full and did not need to add more. Everything we had was to die for! This is by far my favorite restaurant and i cant wait to go back! they also offer cooking classes which i will for sure be taking! If you haven't been here make a reservation so that you can sit at the bar!

Two girlfriends and I recently went to the interactive Sunday brunch and it's the best thing we've done in a while! To say the food is amazing is an understatement!! I think it's very reasonably priced for four courses of quality food made in front of you by two really cool chefs! The service was great as well. Very friendly and funny! If I could have them prepare every meal I have from now on..I would!!!

Went to the restaurant in Lennox Village for Sunday brunch. Chef Chris prepared a number of small and not so small plates right there in front of us. Chef Chris is very approachable and you can tell he really loves what he does. We had terrific food in a personable and relaxed atmosphere. Duck breast with pistachio pesto was stupid good, a simple fried chicken biscuit with candied jalapeño was one of the tastiest things I ever put in my mouth.

Chris & Peter did it again. This was our first time not ordering the supper club experience. . . Tear! Change is hard. I had scallops and my husband had the crab cakes. Both were phenomenal! People, if you are looking for a dining experience, go to The Chef & I. If you are just looking for something to fill your stomach, you can just stick with Chili's.
